My husband loves this coffee pot. The problem is, it is a little sensitive. He was washing it with a brush and barely bumped it on the sink, and while it did not break it did put a large crack around the carafe. I ordered this as a replacement when my Braun (model 3104, european 220v) coffeemaker''s original carafe was broken. I like this product. It is inexpensive, has filters that can be found anywhere, and provides real coffee taste in instant coffee quantities and time. This is great for me, because I do not drink more than 1 cup at a time, and making any more would just waste coffee time and money.

This cone allows you to come up with your own perfect brewing recipe without wasting pounds and pounds of coffee. The way the beans are roasted, the quality of those beans, the amount of coffee grounds you use and how they''re ground, the temperature of the water: all of these have a bearing on the taste of your coffee.

First, the water:

The industry standard for the ideal cup of coffee begins with a water temperature of 195-205 degrees. This is not quite boiling, which is why the "Monsieur Brew" brands make such bad coffee. Brewing with water at the boiling point over-extracts the beans, making for an overly bitter-tasting result.

Use a food thermometer to find this temperature range and use it with 2 tablespoons of coffee per 8 ounce cup of output as a starting point. Then vary the amount of grounds and water temperature as you see fit.

Now for the grind and blend of your coffee beans:

Melitta recommends that you get a coffee ground a little finer than the standard drip grind. You can easily get this done in one of the better supermarkets that has a coffee grinder for specialty coffees.

As for the blend, I''m not going to recommend brands, but the hallmark of inferior blends of coffee is that they start tasting sharp and nasty as they cool down. If this still happens with your Melitta filter after you''ve used the right amount of coffee and the right temperature of water, then you can blame it on your daily grind. With this filter you will quickly find which brands are good and which are bad in a matter of cups, not pots.

After this, keeping a couple of brief notes on what you do and how much stuff you use per cup will lead you to the best recipe for your kind of coffee in a relatively short period of time.

I''ve been using the Melitta system for over 20 years, and about 5 years ago starting using a new technique, which I like better. So here it is.

First, I fill my coffee cup with hot tap water to preheat it. Then fill the Melitta brew cone with a #4 filter, and wet it down with hot tap water. I like the over size # 4 filters, it keeps grounds from going down the side of the filter using this technique.

Next, I heat room temperature spring water in a Pyrex glass measuring cup, using a microwave. If you measure the water, you can easily get the right microwave time to produce 185 F degrees. For me, it''s about 1:50 for 8 oz. You want to avoid adding the coffee to boiling (212 F) water, it can make the coffee taste bitter. If it boils, let it cool for 60 seconds or so.

Then, I add the coffee, measured with a scooper, directly into the Pyrex cup full of hot water, and stir vigorously for 10-15 seconds. If you want, you can wait a little longer, depends on your taste.

Last, I pour the coffee and grounds into the Melitta cone/filter, which is placed over the empty pre-warmed coffee cup.

I think the end result is better, due to the longer contact time, and better ability to stir the coffee/hot water mixture. Give it a try yourself.

I''ve been using one everyday for 4 years now. I make a single cup of good coffee at home before I come into work where there are gallons of Starbucks at no cost to me personally. For many years previously my former office partner and I shared a French Press (I recommend the Portugese-made Bodum with a brazed and chromed brass frame and borosilicate glass decanter rather than their lesser spot-welded sheet metal units) -but presses are more effective at "8 cup" sizes and now I''m drinking only "2 cups" that I brew myself. Also, this filter holder is far easier to cleanup than a press. The coffee is a little tamer than that made by a french press but comparable to drip brewed coffee.

Drip brewing is really done best in very large volumes because some of the beans'' flavors are not extracted immediately unless a super fine grind is used. Small volume drip brewing tends to overextract finely ground coffee and underextract coarser grinds whereas large volumes of water tend to even everything out regardless of the coarseness of grind provided there is sufficient volume of coffee grounds. In small volumes, a perfect medium is difficult to achieve and using the right volume of coffee grinds is also important as too much will result in overextraction of the most available compounds whereas too little will result in a watery brew. Finer coffee will slow the drip down whereas coarser grinds will drain faster. Finer grinds conserve coffee beans but require more precise quantities.

With this type of brewer, you are in control of the water temperature and I''ve found it makes a big difference. Near boiling water tends to overextract tannic acids and make a bitter brew. Although some reputable experts suggest 190-200 degree water, I''ve found that 180-185 degree water produces less bitterness. It must go into a pre-heated cup.

The plastic here I understand is polypropylene -no BPA, phthalates or PVC. I doubt ceramic versions are safer.

Let me first start by saying that I hesitate to call this device by its full name as this is much more than a traditional coffee maker! Honestly though, to most the Tassimo Single Serve Units are no different that the numerous Keurig models on the market; I mean, after all, it is pretty much just the same type of device right?? Well, there''s several differences in the product that clearly defines the system.

STYLE

For styling the Tassimo T45 isn''t very different than most of the other Single Cup Brewing Stations on the Market and this likely won''t win any awards for looks but it isn''t so hideous that you don''t want it in your kitchen either.

OPERATION

SEPARATION

CONCLUSION

When we set out to purchase a SIngle Cup Brewing Station we basically had to choose between he Keurig and the Tassimo but ultimately the Tassimo won out for us as the final brewing process allowed more control to both the manufacturers of the Brewing Cartridges and it allowed us to tweak the brew strength to our liking. For some, the limited variety of Cartridges might make the system a bad choice but for others, like myself, it is okay if the quality of the product is high and the price per beverage is reasonably priced.

Overall, though, the product is very good quality all around and it is really hard to go wrong with this system but I''m only giving it 4 stars until more coffee houses get on board.

OUT OF BOX EXPERIENCE

The brewer was well packaged and a pleasure to open up. The manufacturer clearly took the unboxing experience into consideration, and put some thought into it -not on par with Apple for example, but certainly more thought than I''m used to seeing from small appliance manufacturers.

CRAFTSMANSHIP, FIT & FINISH and MATERIALS

That fabled German engineering is clearly in evidence here. I can personally say BOSCH also makes some amazing large appliances (their dishwashers are fantastic), but they aren''t widely known here in the states. Materials selection is great. Nice sturdy plastics, and attractive finishes that also feel pleasant to the touch. The water tank is probably the least ''premium'' feeling part of the brewer, but there aren''t any moving parts and barring a drop out a second story window, I don''t think it will be a source of trouble.

The brewer has sufficient heft that I can tell the internals are manufactured with some substance, and it doesn''t have that "disposable" feel that so many small electrics have these days. That being said, it''s not so heavy that its difficult to lift or move. Closing the lid of the brewing mechanism after inserting a t-disc provides a satisfying amount of resistance and finishes with great tactile feedback once the t-disc is locked properly in place and the brewing chamber is sealed.

USING THE DEVICE

The small but adequate LCD screen makes using the product all but foolproof. It tells you when to put in the disc, when to wait, and when to remove the disc. You also get an opportunity to hold the start button to dispense more beverage (if for example you wanted your beverage more dilute, or wanted to top off your mug).

Additionally, it lets you know when the water tank is running low or when cleaning is recommended. The included optional water filter is a welcome feature for me as we have god-awful water here, however I think the suggested replacement interval is a bit excessive. I replace it roughly quarterly with good results.

DEEP BREWED FLAVOR

I have tried just about every flavor and variety of t-disc offered in the states and have even purchased some varieties only available in europe from online foreign grocery shops. I am not a coffee connoisseur, but I know the difference between ''blech!'' and ''yum!''. All of the coffee varieties I have tasted have been good to great, and most coffee drinkers should have no problem finding a variety that suits their individual tastes. The teas are wonderful, as is the Milka brand hot chocolate -try dropping a marshmallow or two in your mug and then brewing the hot chocolate on top -truly a treat. Personally, my favorite is the Chai Latte -I made the mistake of getting my friends and neighbors hooked on it as well.

The fact that the brewer reads the barcodes on the t-discs and ''knows'' what it''s brewing is really cool. This is how it automatically adjusts water volume, temperature, and pressure as well as brew time and frothing, which it appears to do by expelling steam. This seems far more advanced than other pod/capsule type brewers, which are more or less oblivious to the type of drink they are preparing.

I have no trouble finding the t-discs at Bed Bath & Beyond, or here at Amazon, and make a habit of buying in bulk for conveniences sake. Just recently I have also noticed the t-discs beginning to appear (albeit with a somewhat limited selection) at my local grocery and at Target.

JUST LIKE IN THE PICTURES

I highly recommend purchasing clear glass mugs/drink-ware, as some of the specialty drinks are truly beautiful with their frothy tops and wonderful color gradients that absolutely beg to be shown off. The drinks you make at home actually turn out looking like the ones in the product pictures, which surprisingly are not merely ''serving suggestions'' as they say in food packaging parlance.

I purchased the T45 Tassimo several months ago. It consistently left 1/2 the milk, and on top of that ..milk spilled all over the machine! All I wanted was a nice cup of chai tea. Finally I returned the T45 model and decided to go one step up to the T65 model. That was the best decision! First of all the piercing for the pod was upgraded, and I am thrilled with the results. Apparently TASSIMO has received many complaints.

First let me say; I did not want this machine. My wife bought it because she finds culinary arts, (like boiling water,) difficult... especially in the A.M. I''m too cheap to pay this much for a coffee machine and the expensive individual pods. Further, I am ethically opposed to all the packaging waste the pods create.

So I was no fan of this system... until I had it for the last two years.

Now, we find it indispensable. It sees use two or three times every morning, one or two times in the afternoon and more on the weekend if we have guests. Other than routine cleaning, we have had no problems with it.

A note about the "piercing problem" other reviewers mention...

As befitting of my manly wont, I started using this thing without reading instructions. It is a tribute to Bosch engineers that I was able to get away with that for so long. However, I too noticed an occasional glitch where the grounds would spill and spray all over... which challenged my male tool-using prowess. Then I learned that you should be gentle and not slam down the lid. It would be an understatement to say, "I''m not very coordinated in the morning." If we share the kitchen during early hours, my daughter calls me "Big Foot." (It''s not MY fault she doesn''t wear shoes before 9AM!)

As my wife later learned, you can''t put the pod in crooked or upside down and expect happy results. Sometimes, when she is not yet fully awake, she does stuff like that: puts the pods in upside down, puts shoes in the freezer or puts her Blackberry in the toaster. It''s hard to answer a pop-tart.

(Really... I ''m not kidding. TWICE! We got a thick protective pad for it and attached her keys to it so it won''t fit in the toaster anymore. The jingling-keys usually alert her before it''s too late. BTW, our Cuisinart toaster still works and so does the Blackberry!)

So if we put the pod in correctly and don''t hammer the lid down, we have ZERO problems. If this machine can withstand both a Somnambulistic Sasquatch and the Terrible Telecom Toaster, it must be robust!

(minimum 4 cycles per day, 365 days X 2 years, plus weekend guests... I estimate that is over 3,000 cups o'' Joe!)

Maintenance...

You have to wipe down the laser-window once a month or so. That takes two or three seconds. (a moist tissue works better than a paper towel)

Routine internal cleaning is easy with the (supplied) cleaning disc. (Put disc in, press button. Repeat.)

If your water is funky, you will have to run a few more cleanings cycles or use a special cleaning agent they sell. We bought another Tassimo for our daughter in law who has city water; that''s how I know. (Hers has also has worked perfectly for over a year now, and SHE makes those sticky sugary drinks with it.) Frankly, I haven''t noticed any great improvement with the cleaning agent, so we just use good water for the cleaning cycle. With our home water purifier, we''ve had no problems and the beverages consistently taste great. (I''m having Yuban this morning)

Joan Jet should write another hit: "I hate myself for loving this machine" but it really has made good coffee and GREAT espresso for over two years. It''s SO convenient! I might go to hell for the egregious extra landfill all the pod-packaging makes, but I will be wide awake when I get there.

First off, I''ve had this for almost a year, and I have never once had any problems with it. Maybe I''m a lucky one, but it seems to me that this is how it is meant to work, and if someone had problems with it, they got a defective machine.

My husband bought this for me after me insisting it would save the money from the coffee I poured down the drain every time I made it. Even though I knew the discs were more expensive, I didn''t drink coffee every day even, and this would be so much more convenient. Also I love cappuccinos. He was very skeptical and was against buying a single serve. When he did start considering it, he wanted a Keurig. I have used a Keurig many times, and have never liked any of the coffee I''ve tried (and they didn''t make cappuccinos). Every review I read, even reviews favorable to Keurig, said this made a better tasting coffee. So I finally convinced him.

He got the T45 instead of the T65 because it was cheaper and the only difference was an LCD display, which I don''t need. He got it at BB&B without the 20% off coupon I had because he didn''t want to ask me for it and give the surprise away. BB&B let him come back in after he gave it to me with the receipt and the coupon, and they gave him the difference back.

The day I set it up he was like "ok, let''s see if this is everything you said it was". One taste and he was sold!! He loved it! As did I :)

Since then, it has run 3-4 times daily (ha! so much for saving money, it has made me an addict! I drink way more coffee now than I ever did before) between the both of us. I knew in advance the coffee selection wasn''t as good as Keurig, but we only ever drink one or two kinds of coffee anyway so I didn''t care. My Wal-Mart sells two blends of Maxwell House and a Maxwell House cappuccino. I like them both. It equals out to 34 cents a cup for the coffee and 53 cents for a capp. Still cheaper than a coffee place, and the convenience to me is way worth the price difference of the bags of coffee.

For those complaining about the lack of variety, BB&B carries a lot in store now, and even way more online. When I want something different, I order from BB&B online with my 20% coupon, and there is no shipping charge on coffee. With the coupon, even the specialty coffees are barely more than I pay at Wal-Mart. And since I''ve had the machine, they have added about three different brands of coffee, each brand with several different flavors. And my absolute FAVORITE thing as of a couple weeks ago, is that they teamed up with Tim Horton''s which is my FAVORITE coffee and what I always drank with my regular coffee maker. And since I live in Michigan, I can just run to the Timmies around the corner from my house and pick up a package. Granted, it is 50 cents per cup, but I use it for my morning cup, then the cheaper stuff after that. Also to save money, I buy the really strong coffee on BB&B online and run extra water through it. Same price, but I get a travel mug full rather than a regular size cup, and still at the strength I like.

As for the machine itself, it has always run like new to this day. The descaling light just came on for the first time today (10 months in), so I will see how that goes. Nothing has ever leaked, and the noise doesn''t bother me a bit. It''s just a few seconds of the pump starting, then more quiet after that. And brews in less than 60 seconds (I''ve counted). And to add to that, I have only once ever used the cleaning disc, and have never cleaned the piercer (I know, I know, I really should). Can''t comment on customer service as I have never had to contact them.

This is a great machine, and I really hope they start marketing it better. It really should be more popular than Keurig in my opinion. But it looks like it''s headed up :)

Primo Water Floor Model Water Cooler

Primo was very quick about shipping. I recieved my cooler in 4 days. The cooler is not heavy; easy to unpack. I was able to unload the cooler and set up quickly without any help. The cooler will fit in to any decor. It really has a nice sleek look. I was surprised to read the review of a noisy cooler. My cooler runs very quietly. Other than when we first started it up, we don''t hear the compressor, no rattles. We have ours set up in the kitchen on a good thick vinyl floor. Perhaps there is enough cushion to keep any vibrations to a minimum. The safety button for the hot water is definitely a plus. Especially if you have small children. The hot water comes out nice & hot; makes a great & quick cup of tea or hot cocoa. I have to admit, I wish the cold water was colder. Using a good pH meter with temp guage, we are getting water temps of 58 60 degrees. Perhaps that is standard but I like my cold water colder. Still its nice to have a head start on a nice cold glass of lemonade. Dispense water, add lemonade mix or squeezed lemons...and throw in a few ice cubes. I didn''t notice right a way, but a day after set up, I discovered my Primo cooler has a defect along the front right side. There is a slight gap where the right side does not line up & hook up with the front panel. The other/left side fits nice and snug to the front panel. I''m sure I could send it back, but I just don''t have the time right now to pack & ship. Besides it works fine and I don''t believe this causes any problems other than cosmetic appearance. Also, I enjoy Primo water and found it can be purchased at our K-mart at about $13 for water in the special primo jug.

I have had this for a couple weeks now, it came really fast 2 or 3 days I think, the other primo cooler had really good reviews which is why I got this one, and liked that the controls were on top of the cooler bc they were more out of reach for toddlers, and it looks nice. Now the bad, it is noisy whenever the heater compressor is running (which is about every 10-20min it seems) there is a annoying rattling that I can hear in the next room for about a minute at a time, but it is quite distracting. Also the water has been getting a "rubber" like taste. I have cleaned it out well as they reccommended and it helped some, seems to be getting better over time. I have called Primo 1-800# and you get a real person right away who is willing to go over her checklist of solutions to these problems, they reccommended I unplug it overnight and call if the noise doesnt get better but that it is normal for the compressor to be heard.

My family bought this item less than two years ago. Was working fine. Cold water sometimes not that great, but no problems in function. Unfortunately, I nearly had a house fire because of this machine. With no indication of a problem, the wires to the hot water tank overheated and burned causing a bright spark and smoke. I quickly unplugged the machine and probably saved my home and family. Had it been 2 hours later, the whole family would have been in bed and this could have burned the house down. There is NO circuit overload protection on this machine. If it overloads, it does NOT shut down. I would not recommend this to my worst enemy. There should not be a product for sale that is intended for continuous use that does not have overload protection.

I got this at K-mart for a much cheaper price, and I''m thrilled with it. I used to have water delivered for use on a rented cooler, and let me tell you, never again. Customer service was awful, hidden charges, bottle deposits, etc. I''m much happier having my own unit and refilling my own bottles. It ends up being so much cheaper, too. I haven''t had any problems with the unit--no leaks, the hot water is hot enough, and the cold water is *almost* cold enough, which works for me since I can add a couple ice cubes and go my merry way. I flushed it out pretty well when I bought it, and I haven''t had an issue with funky odors or taste. I like the way you have to press down from above to dispense instead of having handles that stick out the front--I have fewer floods from my toddler playing with it because it''s harder for her to manage. The hot water safety button is a great feature. I''ve recommended this to friends. My family and I do not like the taste of most of the K-cups. We use the My K-Cup with our own fresh ground coffee. But for decaf in the afternoon, the Van Houtte Swiss Water Decaf tastes great -we think it''s just as good as our own fresh brewed caffeinated coffee.

There are a couple of problems I''m having with this brand. While the coffee itself tastes great, I think that maybe they are overfilled as it''s the only K-Cup I''ve ever used that leaves a fair amount of grounds in the cup and in the K-Cup holder after making a cup. The other problem I''ve had is the bottom needle has gotten plugged twice from using this brand of K-Cup. The plastic they use seems more prone to clogging the needle. I''ve run 100''s of k-cups through my B-60 and these are the only times I''ve had "problems" with it.

It isn''t designed to remove chlorine, or polish out

rust, or improve taste, or any of that. It''s design

is to remove germs, bacteria, & cysts, for which

it excels, and has no equal. However, there are some

significant CAVEATS, read on:

I''m using the RIO for the filtration of catchment water

(rain caught from the roof, diverted to a tank, and pumped into

the house for drinking, showering, cooking, etc.)

I have it installed in a 10 inch "big blue" filter housing.

I am using two Matrikx carbon pre-filters. This is a MUST!

If you don''t pre-filter, you will need to disassemble your

filter element every few days to brush it clean, which is a

PITA. A 5-micron Matrikx followed by a 2-micron Matrikx carbon

filter should give you 3-6 months between "brushings". My

family is 2-people, YMMV.

[ UPDATE 2012 Oct. 20: After several months of operation, I found it was necessary to

brush/scrub the ceramic every 6 weeks. When the system pressure goes above 95psi,

I disassemble the RIO and service the "candles". The carbon pre-filters

get replaced every third brushing of the ceramic candles. Our monthly consumption

for 2 people is about 1500 gallons. Yes, you read that right. All our wash done in town. ]

Brushing filter elements with a scotch-brite pad

will renew the candles by removing a tiny layer of ceramic. Having

done this dozens of times before I got my pre-filtration sorted

out, I estimate these candles should last for about 50 cleaning

cycles before they wear thru. This equates to a 10-50 year life-cycle(!)

Cleaning is facilitated by removing candles from the cartridge adapter,

then stroking them lightly with the scotch-bright wrapped around the

candle.

[ UPDATE 2012 Oct. 20: A year+ of service, & the candles have lost about a quarter of their active

ceramic material, scrubbed away by periodic cleaning. For catchment filtration,

I expect service life around 4-5 years. Of course, you''ll probably break a candle

or two with all the handling required over that period for brushing off the

sediment. Probably should have spares. ]

It should be noted that these six candles are not the 7 inch

Sterasyl, nor the 9", nor the 10". I don''t know the exact measurements

off hand, but the diameter is smaller than anything else Doulton produces,

so I have to conclude these are a special size produced just for the

RIO product. The BPT (British Pipe Thread) nipple is standard to all

the other Doulton candle products. You could use these as a replacement

for many of the counter-top carafes, and you would be dollars ahead, with $

at about half of any other offer. The pipe nipple length is about 3/4 inch,

with rubber o-ring included. No wing-nut is included or necessary for the RIO.

Another point I should make is that the pressure drop across this

unit is 15psid clean, 30psid when dirty. If you have low water pressure,

or a weak jet-pump, you might want to consider upgrade to a

positive-displacement pump (Dankoff slow pump), multi-stage deep well

style centrifugal submersible, or chose another filtration solution

(OR, place 3 sets of these in parallel.) Another note, these will

flow up to 6gpm. Most Matrikx filters flow well at 2-3 times their rated

flows, just make sure to check the pdf specs to make sure you''re not

over-doing it. Higher flows on Matrikx filters may also require parallel

gang arraignment, or a larger 4.5x10/4.5x20 filters.

6-pack Doulton "candle" element, what''s not to like? The only reason it

does not get five stars is because nowhere does Doulton or it''s resellers

inform the consumer of the imperative need for pre-filtration.

Without adequate PRE-filtration, the RIO is an impractical solution due

to premature clogging, necessitating excessive maintenance (i.e. "brushing.")

[ UPDATE 2012 Oct. 20: If your water source is very low in turbidity,

you might find pre-filtration unnecessary, but I would still recommend pre-filtering

all water BEFORE it gets passed thru the RIO. ]

After evaluating dozens of filters from several popular manufacturers,

I have found only ONE that HONESTLY details the performance of their filter products,

and that one stellar shining star of filter providers is the one, the only, MATRIKX.

Their filters do what they say, and do it better than many/most of the name brand

filter manufactures. Watts, GE, Pentek, etc. are a joke. GAC filters, by any mfg, are

useless. Filters from Wallmart and Home Depott are lame; Micron ratings and service

life estimates are a lie. It is possible to use Matrikx filters and forgo the RIO

altogether, but their filters do not have silver antimicrobial matrix, thus, no

resistance bacterial grow-thru.

This is the best price I''ve seen for this item. Filter holder module not included.

[ UPDATE 2012 Oct. 20: The price has dropped again. At the time of update, the price of $114

is one-third of the asking price at introduction. This is a good deal for the filter candles

and the black-plastic caddy that holds them together as a unit. If you need the 10 inch Big Blue Filter Housing,

(seriously, that''s what it''s called in the industry) please do yourself a favor and shop around.

Should be no more than half the price currently asked for the 6-candle RIO package. ]

Been using these filters for a few years now, both as primary whole house and as filters after a slow sand filter. They''ve always done a good job keeping the muck out. Each test (monthly) shows no bacteria, but it must be said that the last year+ the primary filter is the slow sand, which removes anything living.

These are good filters, and having this filter in-line provides us with a bit more peace of mind. Recommended.

My basement runs about 80% humidity all year round and stays about a constant 62 as well.I have had this unit running for a month and it has done everything I have asked of it.The basement is 1200 square foot and this dehumidifier has lowered the humidity to 55% which is where I have it set.I have it hosed to a drain and it is fairly loud on the high setting.The only negative I would note is the bucket seems a little flimsy if you are opting not to hose it to a drain.Actually it is the handle of the bucket that is suspect.Overall very happy with this product.

I bought the dehumidifier about a month ago, and have been using it in my incredibly humid bedroom. It removes a LOT of moisture in the air up there. The space is about 400 sq feet, and there is no more condensation on any of the windows, not even the ones all the way across the room from it.

I don''t recommend running it at night though, as it will dehumidify YOU! It''s also a bit noisy and blows cold air. But it has really helped a LOT in keeping mold at bay, especially, which is something we worry about here in the Pacific NW.

It is very easy to empty, and on average probably removes at least two gallons of air from the room a DAY.

The Soleus Air DP1-70 arrived in perfect condition via UPS. Packaging was intelligently designed and protected the unit well.

My old unit was all metal but now this is all plastic. However, everything fit well and it was up and operating in just a few minutes.

The controls are intuitive, smartly layed out with easy to read large digital numbers. Everything is easy to use and understand. The noise is relatively modest in "full thrust" mode and you can also control the fan speed to reduce noise even further. To start, overall I am happy with this purchase.

Now for some clarifications and critiques.

It is a 70 pint per day. That is 8.75 Gallons/day. The bucket is at most 3 gallons, probably closer to 2 gallons.

It is only capable of doing 70 pints/day if the conditions are correct, i.e. temperature is ~68°F.

It doesn''t say anywhere how big of a room it can really manage.

The humidity readout is in 5% increments.

Details about my basement:

It is unheated and therefore close to 60°F

It is ~1600 square feet.

Performance after 1 month:

When I turned it on, it read that we had an 80% humidity. After running 24/7 (drain hose hooked up) for a month we are now at 60% humidity. It has not shut off yet(we have it set to shut off at 50%).

I just bought the Bissell SpotBot. As someone else mentioned, using the recommended amount of Oxy Gen2 would get expensive quickly. I measured the SpotBot tank volume markings, and it happens to be 14 oz water, 16 oz Oxy Gen2, and 1.5 oz of Pet Stain and Odor remover 2X concentrate. This one 31.5 oz of mixed solution will do two 6 minute set in stain cleanings. With Oxy Gen2 priced at about 6 buckeroos a 32 bottle, this could get expensive in a hurry.

So time for some sleuthing to determine what chemical composition Oxy Gen2 is made up of. Wasn''t hard to find. I Googled for the MSDS sheet, and it turns out Oxy Gen2 is nothing more than plain old hydrogen peroxide with a concentration of less than 5%.

Turns out you can buy 32 oz bottles of 3% hydrogen peroxide in the pharmacy areas of most retailers for less than one dollar!

I hate to burst everyone''s bubble. I''ve used this product with my Spotbot, because it came with it. I''ve used it in my Hoover Steamvac. I''ve used both the Spotbot and Steamvac without it. I have two kids and a dog that pees everywhere and I see no difference.

Spotbot is an excellent spot cleaner and it works perfectly well without OxyGen. I get all sorts of spots out with it and no need for OxyGen. Perhaps that''s why everyone is getting such marvelous results. It''s the Spotbot with regular detergent, not the OxyGen.

One big drawback to using OxyGen is the Spotbot manual instructs us to discard the unused solution if it contains OxyGen, meaning I can''t leave it in my Spotbot. I don''t have to do that with plain regular detergent. Since I must mix the OxyGen with water and detergent, I have to discard the detergent and OxyGen, which feels like a waste.

Personally, I don''t think this product does any harm. It just doesn''t do much good. Spend the extra money elsewhere.

A bottle was included in the Bissell SpotBot box along with sample bottles of the regular carpet cleaner. The sample bottle was used up quickly because so much must be added to fill the SpotBot cleaning reservoir up to the OXYGEN2 line. I didn''t notice any difference in results on the carpet whether or not I used this "next generation of oxygen boost", so I didn''t buy any more of it until recently. Several spots on the carpet hadn''t come clean even after several cycles with the SpotBot. Even a spritz of the normally reliable Rug Doctor spot cleaner couldn''t remove those recalcitrant spots. For seven dollars, the 32-ounce container of OXYGEN2 was worth a gamble. I was curious to see how it would fare.

The Tests

The SpotBot is a small machine that cleans carpet stains with a solution of water, cleaner, and, if desired, some OXYGEN2. It''s programmed to squirt on the solution, agitate the area with its circular brush, and then vacuum up the liquid. A beep alerts the user that the cycle is finished. Probably 98% of the time I get up spots easily with just water and half the recommended amount of soap. For the few failures Rug Doctor almost always come to the rescue. What I don''t like about it is the suggested ratio for the cleaning solution. The solution tank holds 32 ounces. When using OXYGEN2 the user is guided to use 16 ounces of OXYGEN2, and 8 ounces each of water and cleaner. The seven-dollar container of OXYGEN2 only holds 32 ounces, so those who follow directions will soon exhaust the supply. The cost factor and some skepticism are the reasons I hadn''t bought OXYGEN2 until now.

I decided to try the OXYGEN2 on some residual stains that were mostly late discovered stealth pee damages. There were four of them and with the OXYGEN2 all but three came clean. I decided to return to the one stubborn yellow tinged spot later.

I poured grape juice on two places on an old piece of carpet and cleaned with just water and cleaning solution. The grape juice came out totally. However, next to one grape juice spot was an old stain that had been there forever and hadn''t come clean whatsoever. Out of curiosity I squirted the spot with a little OXYGEN2 and cleaned it again with the SpotBot using OXYGEN2 in the solution. Amazingly the spot totally disappeared, and I was starting to become a believer in a product whose efficacy I had always doubted.

On two basement rugs I poured some grape juice, rubbed it in and let it set overnight. One of the two stains was pretreated with OXYGEN2. Twenty hours later I set the SpotBot on both using the recommended ration of solution with OXYGEN2. Both stains came out easily using the regular 3-minute cycle. I opted not to use the SpotBot''s six-minute set in stain option. Again, next to one of the grape juice stains was a very old stain that remained even after the OXYGEN2 bath. I poured OXYGEN2 directly on this stain of indeterminate age and origin. The stain actually seemed to dissolve somewhat right before my eyes. I then gave the ancient stain another go with the SpotBot and OXYGEN2. It came up totally!

There was more of the same ancient stain on another part of the rug so I attacked it with a nonOXYGEN2 solution and no pretreating to see what would happen. After the cleaning, the stain was a little less pronounced but definitely still there. A follow up with OXYGEN2 took it out.

For the grand finale I made two grape juice stains, gave each a topping of mustard, and let them sit overnight. Three cycles with the SpotBot and pretreatment with OXYGEN2 didn''t budge the mustard. If anything it accentuated and brightened the yellow. I pretreated the other stain with Rug Doctor stain remover and had better success, though a tinge of yellow remains in the carpet.

With the little bit of OXYGEN2 remaining I doused that previously cleaned stealth pee stain in Spud Central. After another run of the SpotBot over it, there was marked improvement, but not total cleansing. To be fair, OXYGEN2 is not for pet stains. Bissell markets another product for urine damage.

FINALLY I had mixed success with OXYGEN2. If I were to buy it again, I''d use it to pretreat stains or use it as a weapon of last resort. Using 16 ounces of OXYGEN2 per filling in the SpotBot or any other rug cleaner can get expensive.

This is review of "Non-Watts Premier Brand RO Membranes" like this one OR "Dow Filmtec Residential RO Membranes". While it should work as described, DO NOT USE on Watts Premier WP systems (i.e. WP-4V, WP-4, WP-5). The WP systems are the one-piece manifold systems from Watts Premier.

This does not have the built-in Check Valve or Brine Seal inside the white plastic tube of the RO Membrane. Without this Check Valve or Brine Seal, water from the reservoir tank (when full) will back flow to the RO membrane and damage it, and waste water.

This back flow or reverse flow will happen when your reservoir tank gets full. So basically, you will be wasting water as the water trickle will not stop. When I tested it, water continued to trickle out of the reject water outlet tube even when my reservoir tank is full already (it should stop when reserve tank is full). The water coming out is at a much slower rate though, but still plenty enough to raise your water bill since the water trickle will continue 24 hours a day.

Premier WP4-V Reverse Osmosis System

Pro: The system works and the monitoring faucet provide a easy way for filtered water.

Con: water leaks when the tank is near empty (when the tank is filled, no more water leaking)

Other thought: do not draw to much filtered water (2.5 gallon) at a time.

Reverse osmosis is based upon your existing water line pressure. I have decent water line pressure in city of San Jose, not too low, not too high, but when using this WP4-V, very little water would come out. So I had to buy an extra retrofit pump from watts premier, only to find out it''s not for this new type of RO system, only the traditional 5 stage with the tubings sticking out of the 4 and 5 stage filters. Undaunted, I hook up the pump to prefilter line, install the sensor at the output line, and it works! But not after a lot of frustration and cursing. My advise: don''t get the WP4-V or WP5-50, go for the traditional RO system just in case you need that pump, it''s better to get the model with the water pump anyway and enjoy steady RO pure water.

Lime-A-Way Toilet Bowl Cleaner 12 pack of the 16 oz bottles

I have two old American Standard toilets (one from the 1950''s and the othe from the 1960''s have 1 1/2 baths). We have considerable mineral deposits in our water here in Virginia. My main bath toilet was not flushing properly (water flush would come right up to the top of the rim) because of all the accumulated lime deposits. It had never been cleaned for lime in all the years I had lived in the house (since the 70''s). I went on the internet and found this product. I drained the bowl and poured in enought of this (straight with no mixing) so the complete bottom of the bowl was covered and left stand overnight. I flushed the next morning and some of the lime had been dissolved. I next did the same application the next night with CLR. It got a little better. Did the Lime-A-Way for two more nights. Guess whet it dissolved completely all the lime. And for the first time I can see the porcelain in the bottom of the bowl. Now the toilet flushes perfectly. The plumber said that I was not getting enought water flow to flush the toilet. What a product. I had so much deposits that it took four applications to remove-the deposits had completely covered the bottom of the bowl and clogged the water inlet. But, it is worth it. I also used it on my other toilet in the 1/2 bath and left that overnight also, and it cleaned that out in the same manner. What a wonderful product!!! I wouod highly recommend this product. I bought it from Amazon as none of the stores here carried it. Now both toilets work perfectly.

This is a great toilet cleaner. There was a stain in the toilet when I moved into my new apartment. I used two different toilet cleaners, but none of them worked. I though I would just have to live with the stain, that is, until I tried Lime-A-Way. Not only did the stain completely come up, but Lime A-way destroyed all sorts of other dirt hidden under the toilet rim that the other cleaners had missed.

This cleaner is great. I used to use Clorox Toilet Cleaner with Bleach, but this is a superior product. I have hard water that often leaves rust and lime deposits. This cleaner takes care of the job. I have been using this filter for for over 3 years now (change catridge every 3 5 months depending on usage) and am satisfied with the taste of the filtered water. I have been in 3 apartments in that time in three states, and fitting it into a new tap has been really easy.

We''ve been using these filters for years. They last about 4 months in our household, completely eliminate chlorine taste and odor, and are easy to replace. The flow gets a little slow as they near the end of their usefulness. They used to be made in the US, however, but are now made in China. I''m not extremely happy buying a water purifying product made in China, but that seems to be where most filters are now made. It still seems to work ok.

FMC103 DUPONT 100 Gallon Faucet Mount Filter Cartridges

These Dupont Faucet Filter cartridges FMC103 & FMC300 are rip-offs. They are prone to premature rupturing, likely due to a manufacturing/design defect and will not last you anywhere near the life they claim. The bottom seam/weld of the cartridge is very weak and will not last the 100 or 200 gallons of life it''s rated for. I have gone through three FMC300 cartridges (rated for 200 gallons) but in fact lasted less than 50 gallons of use, rendering them useless. The first sign of trouble is usually a slow drip from somewhere around filter unit; eventually it deteriorates into a gushing fountain.

Dupont Customer Service is aware of the problem with these cartridge. They told me both the 100 and 200 gallon cartridges have the same problem. If you call to ask for a replacement of a leaky faucet filter unit they will demand a dated sales receipt, etc. But if you tell them you have a defective, ruptured cartridge, they will send you a replacement, no questions asked. Obviously, they know the FMC300 cartridge is a defective product.

Never had one problem with this system in years, before would have Pur systems that would break every 3 months Dupont is just stellar. I highly recommend.

This is one of those "it used to be good" reviews. Bought one of these a year ago, used the FMC300 filter, which has apparently disappeared from the market according to my observations and reports on these Amazon reviews.

This product is manufactured by DuPont for Walmart and was originally billed as a Walmart-only product. It was inexpensive ($14 for the filter + cartridge, and less than $9 for replacement filters). Now the prices approach that of other brands. Replacements are about $12 for the FMC100. The empty shelf space showed a 3-pack of FMC300''s listed for just over $40. Curiously, I just checked and cannot even find these filters or cartridges listed on Walmart''s website a search on the model number or DuPont only turns up random items and/or other brands of water filters.

My main complaint about this new FMC100 is that the water tastes distinctly salty. The replacement filter should be flushed by now it has been a week since I installed it. But the salt flavor lingers, in plain water, coffee, what have you. I''m going to dig my old Culligan FM-15A out of storage and (hopefully) find a replacement filter for it. I gave up on the Culligan, which I liked, because I was having problems finding replacement cartridges.

These filters says that you can get 100 gallons of water per use, but for some reason when the filters get to around 50 gallons they just explode in the housing system. I bought this pack of three and in less that 1 month I was done with the set. At first I thought I might had one defective filter and thought nothing off it, but withing 1 week the same thing happened again. They keep breaking around the base of the filter in the exact same spot, with the filter broken the system is no good because it just leaks water everywhere. I had a Brita system for years and never had any of these problems. I wish I had keep it instead of thinking I was getting an upgrade. People save your money, do not buy this product!

The pros are the price and that this pot makes very good coffee. The negative is that it malfunctions and depending on your luck can stop working after a month. I am now up to my 3rd pot of this type. My first pot lasted 1 year, the second only one month. i did attempt to change brands but could not find one that met my requirements for good coffee and ease. I bought the Technivorm for $300 which offered no features. It had no water filter which affects taste, no safety auto shut off, and the coffee taste was not better than the Krups. Moved on to the Calphalon pot which was a bustthe reviews of the Calphalon are almost all negative and i agree. This journey led me back to the Krups. I decided to deal with the reliability issue by ordering a back up pot and saving my receipt for any return. Amazon is a reliable dealer for returning defective merchandise. Good luck!

I needed a coffee maker for a 2nd kitchen where the cabinets are too low to the counter for the Cuisinart Brew Central which I have in the original kitchen and which I love. This coffee maker is short and squat which fits under the cabinets but is awkward because it is fat which makes it difficult to pour and impossible to use the carafe to add water to the machine.. In adddition, there are 2 other features I really dont like: the water is supposed to be poured in through a small, built-in filter which splashes up. This part which also contains the holder for the coffee may be removed and the water can be added directly into the machine, except the opening is still small. Also, and more important, the water indicator is INSIDE the machine where you add the water and is only measured in 2-cup intervals which are also unprecise so it''s hard to tell how much over you are until the next 2-cup line is reached... and you cannot brew an odd # of cups without guesswork. It makes a decent cup of coffee but you will have to use a measuring cup of some sort and tweak the amount of water until you arrive at the right measurement... a lot of work and guessing, so for the price I''d go elsewhere

We got this one about 2 years ago & haven''t had a mechanical problem yet. My only complaint is that the water compartment & brew basket are under the same lid & if you are not careful the coffee grounds can get into the water area & are awful to get out!

I purchased this through Amazon on July 12, despite a few off-putting reviews. It made very good coffee (the cone shaped filter is, I think, superior to the flat ones in this regard) and it was kept at an optimal temperature for us. It was nice-looking, though the fit and finish weren''t too good the top didn''t close squarely, etc. You cannot use the carafe to fill the reservoir with water because of the way the top is designed and the small opening to the water reservoir. Not ideal, but I was willing to work around all that. However, on August 20 (a few days after the last return date for Amazon), it failed in the middle of brewing a pot of coffee. Just stopped. No heat to the plate. Nothing. The clock and lights still worked, but no coffee. I went through the little check list (duh). I called Krups. I am supposed to send it to the nearest approved repair shop; they are sending me a shipping label (so generous). I will have it back or be ok''d to get a replacement in 4-5 weeks. Wow. That, I think, is pitiful customer service. I had this happen once with a Kitchenaid and they sent me a new one within a week, with apologies. If you buy one of these (which I can''t encourage you to do), have a back up. Keep your box etc for at least 2 months, then you could maybe send it back to Amazon for replacement since they generally have great customer service, in my experience. No more Krups for me.

Tried top rated Hamilton Beach Brew Station Deluxe(#47454)from Consumers Reports. Good coffee (NOT great) but coffee is heated within the coffee filter which is part of the carafe. After brewing stops, the steam from the coffee warmer goes into the filter & the coffee grinds are dripping into the carafe all the time. Tried removing hot grinds & filter right after brew, but still had only "good" coffee. Had to return it.

This newer version of original Krups does not drip coffee(little drips, if at all) when you take out carafe while brewing. They fixed the carafe, so that when you pour coffee it does NOT spill on counter, too. You can hear the steam hitting the grinds, while brewing. Great coffee!! Another plus, is that it is programmble...I wake up for work & my "Great" coffee is ready.

Cons: Slight blemmish on stainless steel top of coffee maker, but who cares when it makes "Great" coffee!
