Eau Good Bottle Save 18% Off

Black+Blum Eau Good water bottleIt does a nice job filtering tap water but it doesn''t work instantly. I find it tastes better if I let the water sit for a few hours before I drink it. The mouth of the bottle is a perfect size, slightly bigger than my Sigg. The shape of the bottle is cool and I''ve gotten a lot of compliments on it. I''ve also been asked questions like, "Is that a bong?" and "Is that a floating turd in your water?" After 2 weeks of use, there are pieces of the charcoal floating around in it, so I have to dump out that batch of water and start over. I think I''ll just start leaving it in the fridge so my boyfriend will drink out of it instead of putting his mouth on the brita pitcher.

I''ve been using Bobbles for a couple of years now, and I love the idea of a water bottle with a built-in filter. That said, I''ve never loved the squirt bottle style. Enter the Black+Blum bottle! It has the built-in filter with a wide mouth to drink from.

While it can be annoying that the water filtration isn''t instant, I actually find it works pretty well. I refill it when it gets down to 1/3 left in the bottle so I rarely am starting from scratch. I find that I''m able to use it all day long. It''s also great to refill right before bedtime to make sure you can start the day with a full, filtered bottle of water.

Pros:

Wide mouth

Built-in filter

Top seals well

Water tastes great when filtered

Filter can be repurposed after 6 months

Cons:

Flecks of charcoal can occur when water sits

Takes 1 hour for minimal filtering and 8 hours for full filtering

...but the bottle itself is awesome. Great shape, the lid stays on tight but is easy to open. I actually look to make sure I have it before I leave the house. First rate.

Seriously. I can''t take this bottle out of my bag without someone talking about it and wanting one. My yoga instructor even asked me (during class) where I got it.

I don''t have much to say about its filtration capabilities. I did fill it with tap water once and left it in the fridge overnight, and the water did taste better. But honestly, I usually put filtered water in it! I do, however, travel for work and when I do, I usually bring an empty water bottle with me to fill in the drinking fountain (yeah, I''m hardcore). So this bottle will be perfect for those circumstance where I can''t get filtered water.

The one little thing that was a little annoying is the metal clip on the top came off the bottle a few times. I had to tighten it by squeezing the two sides together and re-fastening it to the top. Hard to explain if you don''t have one. But it seems to have fixed the issue, so no big deal.

I bought one because they claim on the package it will balance ph-level. Tested with litmut paper after 8 hours, then 24 hours, then 5 days. No visible difference at all. Not very practical to open and close, must use both hands. Test yourself and post it here. Not worth the money.

Holmes HWF75PDQ-U Wick Humidifier Filter Save 7% Off

Holmes HWF75PDQ-U Wick Humidifier FilterThis filter is just as good as the original. I have been using one of these filters for over 4 months now and there is no evidence of deterioration or mold whatsoever. I will offer two helpful hints to potential consumers: (1) Make sure you use an antibacterial additive in your humidifier every time you refill your reservoirs and (2) Always rotate your filter upside down each time you add water. This will GREATLY increase the lifetime of your filter. Also, the twin pack is a great buy!

For those of you getting only a week or two of usefulness from these filters, on a whim I ran one through my dishwasher using regular detergent and a few dishes. I let it go through the hot dry cycle, but think it might be better to pull it out before that. Some of the plastic screen was distorted, but not badly. The webbing was disturbed a bit but not badly. I put it back in the machine on the next filter change and it has been acting like a brand new one. I have the little humidistat gauge on my unit, so as the filter goes bad it shows up on the gauge. My next test is to see how many times it can survive the DW. Will shorter cycles work? For those with high amounts of calcium in their water vs the manganese I have, maybe some vinegar instead of detergent. And maybe save up 2-3 filters and run a dedicated cycle. Those with aluminum cages on the filters might not like the DW detergents. Try it and add an opinion about it. I do think the engineering of these units where they rely on capillary action to pull water up into the filter is ridiculous. My water doesn''t have mold or mineral deposits aside from the orange maganese, it just gets dirty with dust kicked up by our traffic and the dog. The filters do get a brown tinge on the top as they stop working. I''ll also get a colorless, odorless bioslime in the reservoir and presumably in the filter. This may be what is being washed out as much as anything. But I''m going with the DW for now, otherwise I would go through 12-15 filters a season. I tried the silver nitrate balls in the reservoir, but they didn''t help.

Nesco WK-64P 2.24-Quart Electric Water Kettle Save 11% Off

Nesco WK-64P 2.24-Quart Electric Water KettleThe product image shows the unit beyond fill capacity for an added "coolness" effect with the water boiling.

The "NESCO" logo becomes very hot to the touch.. so after refilling the lid will need to be closed very quickly or with something to cover your hand to prevent burns.

The first time I filled it up with cold water from the tap (as per the instructions), I thought it took a long time to boil. So then I timed a few boils using cold tap water (wastes least water, most realistic usage scenario for majority of my time):

Boil time 1 not timed, 8 cups

Boil time 2 10:30.0, 8 cups

Boil time 3 2:46.1, 2 cups, no cooldown

So when the product description says "in a matter of minutes hot water will be ready", I think they''re going based on the minimum fill amount of 2 cups.. or having filled it with already hot water from the tap. Timing is done from switching power on to when it auto-shuts off using the stop watch on my iPhone. So it may have a second or two margin of error due to reaction time.

After 4 full boils (directions recommend 2) there is still an extremely slight plastic smell to the water which I imagine will go away after a few more full runs. There also appears to be a very light flavor difference between the boiled water from this unit and from our stainless kettle on the stove. It''s hardly noticable and when I mix up 3 cups, one boiled from this, one from the microwave, and one from the stove.. I can''t accurately pin-point where each was boiled.

Ultimately, I purchased this for convienance. My wife is from the UK; both of us are big coffee and tea drinkers.. waiting for the kettle to boil on the stove top was getting old. Boiling water in an electric kettle is more energy efficient and opens up a space on our stove top again where our stainless steel kettle once sat.

The lighting on the unit is kind of cool but the kids seem to enjoy it more. The light isn''t as bright as shown in the product image and is somewhat overpowered by normal lighting within the kitchen.

Overall, I''m happy with the purchase. Now if only they would boil as fast as they do in the UK.. ;)

As someone who lived in the tea-drinking land of the Brits for years, I am fussy about my cuppa. I use distilled water and would be the first to reject the appliance if there was any taint to the taste of the water.

When I unwrapped the kettle, the first thing I did was boil a mixture of tap water and white vinegar, at least a cup of the latter. Be careful if/when you do this -the mixture will literally jump out of the spout of a full kettle when it comes to a boil, so make sure there''s nothing like paper or flesh that can be splashed! Then I poured the vinegar mixture down the sink, rinsed the kettle with tap water, filled it with distilled water and boiled a faultless cup of tea.

The kettle is well-designed so that water neither dribbles short of the cup nor leaps past it when pouring, and the balance is good when grasping the handle from well down the side.

The blue light is hoopy, too.

Length:: 6:41 Mins

This ''Nesco Electric Kettle'' will bring a cool mood to your kitchen.

The kettle turns on a beautiful true blue color to light up the water while it is in the heating process and turns off along with the heating element at the moment the water reaches boiling point.

As much as this kettle is electric, it doesn''t sing that tune, so you''ll have to rely on viewing the kettle to know whether or not the hot water is ready. If you don''t care for that tell-tale kettle''s whistle though; not hearing it just might have you dancing along with the bubbles in the boiling water. Those bubbles produce quite a show and are a pleasure to observe if you have a fascination for that sort of thing. The entire front half of the kettle boasts a large clear/opaque plastic viewing pane to enjoy this lighted experience.

There are a few key points to note from my experience with this product.

*kettle only boils water, no other substances are to be heated with this appliance (for best performance don''t put tea bags inside either)!

*kettle does not have a way to maintain water at a constant hot temperature for prolonged periods/ no keep warm feature

*once the kettle boils the water, it does turn itself OFF.

*minimum boiling volume is 2 cups at a time, maximum is 8 cups

*kettle comes in two parts; cordless kettle and corded kettle base

*kettle has AUTO OFF built-in feature, no permanent ON feature

*ON switch is on the kettle, not on the base; there are no switches on the base

*interior base is the most metal to come into contact with the water, everything else touching water is plastic

*there is no glass in this appliance

*kettle swivels freely full-circle 360 degrees on base so you can place the handle at any angle

*kettle base takes about as much room as a standard 6 inch round cake pan sitting on the counter as far as surface area

*best practice: to empty out kettle after use as it is not recommended to leave water sitting in the appliance for prolonged periods to prevent eventual calcification

*the filter, a small sieve/strainer located inside the kettle just in front of the pour spout, is removable for rinsing by sliding/slotting into place and is used to protect any sediments from within the kettle from being poured out into your cup

I recommend boiling and rinsing the kettle 3 or 4 times at full capacity prior to enjoying a beverage or meal with water from this kettle for the first time. after following this practice, i experienced no flavor taints in the water.

Overall a fantastic kettle and one of those must have appliances for anyone who enjoys often some hot tea and cocoa, instant ramen or even steaming hot towels used in cosmetic/therapeutic practices. My whole family has been using my Nesco Electric Kettle and commenting on how great it is. I think my old whistling stove top model is jealously retiring.

We''ve been using it for 1/2 year now. Workls well, we like it. Previous Krups worked for 13 years and though Nesco has some deficiencies, I still gave it 5-star rating.

Pros:

360-defree rotation when on base

transperent water-view

quick boiling

low-noise compared to other black/steel models

price

look and feel

solid and stable

not heavy, balanced (unlike new Krups)

Cons

you have to fill it above MIN mark/2 cups or it won''t shut-off quickly, will be hot

filter/screen(useless anyway) may fall out when lid is open. We don''t and fill through the spout.

I love my Nesco electric water kettle. It has wonderful capacity, super-fast boiling, convenient cordless portability and the blue light indicator is so eye-catching. If it had some sort of audible alert I would give it 5 of 5 stars. The blue light is great if you are in the same room else the light turns off when the water reaches boiling and the kettle automatically turns off with its safety feature (also nice). Would still recommend it, however. It has a much more comfortable handle than a regular teakettle.

BISSELL OXYgen Boost Stain Remover Save 33% Off

BISSELL OXYgen Boost Stain Remover, Portable Machine Formula, 0801AI just bought the Bissell SpotBot. As someone else mentioned, using the recommended amount of Oxy Gen2 would get expensive quickly. I measured the SpotBot tank volume markings, and it happens to be 14 oz water, 16 oz Oxy Gen2, and 1.5 oz of Pet Stain and Odor remover 2X concentrate. This one 31.5 oz of mixed solution will do two 6 minute set in stain cleanings. With Oxy Gen2 priced at about 6 buckeroos a 32 bottle, this could get expensive in a hurry.

So time for some sleuthing to determine what chemical composition Oxy Gen2 is made up of. Wasn''t hard to find. I Googled for the MSDS sheet, and it turns out Oxy Gen2 is nothing more than plain old hydrogen peroxide with a concentration of less than 5%.

Turns out you can buy 32 oz bottles of 3% hydrogen peroxide in the pharmacy areas of most retailers for less than one dollar!

I hate to burst everyone''s bubble. I''ve used this product with my Spotbot, because it came with it. I''ve used it in my Hoover Steamvac. I''ve used both the Spotbot and Steamvac without it. I have two kids and a dog that pees everywhere and I see no difference.

Spotbot is an excellent spot cleaner and it works perfectly well without OxyGen. I get all sorts of spots out with it and no need for OxyGen. Perhaps that''s why everyone is getting such marvelous results. It''s the Spotbot with regular detergent, not the OxyGen.

One big drawback to using OxyGen is the Spotbot manual instructs us to discard the unused solution if it contains OxyGen, meaning I can''t leave it in my Spotbot. I don''t have to do that with plain regular detergent. Since I must mix the OxyGen with water and detergent, I have to discard the detergent and OxyGen, which feels like a waste.

Personally, I don''t think this product does any harm. It just doesn''t do much good. Spend the extra money elsewhere.

A bottle was included in the Bissell SpotBot box along with sample bottles of the regular carpet cleaner. The sample bottle was used up quickly because so much must be added to fill the SpotBot cleaning reservoir up to the OXYGEN2 line. I didn''t notice any difference in results on the carpet whether or not I used this "next generation of oxygen boost", so I didn''t buy any more of it until recently. Several spots on the carpet hadn''t come clean even after several cycles with the SpotBot. Even a spritz of the normally reliable Rug Doctor spot cleaner couldn''t remove those recalcitrant spots. For seven dollars, the 32-ounce container of OXYGEN2 was worth a gamble. I was curious to see how it would fare.

The Tests

The SpotBot is a small machine that cleans carpet stains with a solution of water, cleaner, and, if desired, some OXYGEN2. It''s programmed to squirt on the solution, agitate the area with its circular brush, and then vacuum up the liquid. A beep alerts the user that the cycle is finished. Probably 98% of the time I get up spots easily with just water and half the recommended amount of soap. For the few failures Rug Doctor almost always come to the rescue. What I don''t like about it is the suggested ratio for the cleaning solution. The solution tank holds 32 ounces. When using OXYGEN2 the user is guided to use 16 ounces of OXYGEN2, and 8 ounces each of water and cleaner. The seven-dollar container of OXYGEN2 only holds 32 ounces, so those who follow directions will soon exhaust the supply. The cost factor and some skepticism are the reasons I hadn''t bought OXYGEN2 until now.

I decided to try the OXYGEN2 on some residual stains that were mostly late discovered stealth pee damages. There were four of them and with the OXYGEN2 all but three came clean. I decided to return to the one stubborn yellow tinged spot later.

I poured grape juice on two places on an old piece of carpet and cleaned with just water and cleaning solution. The grape juice came out totally. However, next to one grape juice spot was an old stain that had been there forever and hadn''t come clean whatsoever. Out of curiosity I squirted the spot with a little OXYGEN2 and cleaned it again with the SpotBot using OXYGEN2 in the solution. Amazingly the spot totally disappeared, and I was starting to become a believer in a product whose efficacy I had always doubted.

On two basement rugs I poured some grape juice, rubbed it in and let it set overnight. One of the two stains was pretreated with OXYGEN2. Twenty hours later I set the SpotBot on both using the recommended ration of solution with OXYGEN2. Both stains came out easily using the regular 3-minute cycle. I opted not to use the SpotBot''s six-minute set in stain option. Again, next to one of the grape juice stains was a very old stain that remained even after the OXYGEN2 bath. I poured OXYGEN2 directly on this stain of indeterminate age and origin. The stain actually seemed to dissolve somewhat right before my eyes. I then gave the ancient stain another go with the SpotBot and OXYGEN2. It came up totally!

There was more of the same ancient stain on another part of the rug so I attacked it with a nonOXYGEN2 solution and no pretreating to see what would happen. After the cleaning, the stain was a little less pronounced but definitely still there. A follow up with OXYGEN2 took it out.

For the grand finale I made two grape juice stains, gave each a topping of mustard, and let them sit overnight. Three cycles with the SpotBot and pretreatment with OXYGEN2 didn''t budge the mustard. If anything it accentuated and brightened the yellow. I pretreated the other stain with Rug Doctor stain remover and had better success, though a tinge of yellow remains in the carpet.

With the little bit of OXYGEN2 remaining I doused that previously cleaned stealth pee stain in Spud Central. After another run of the SpotBot over it, there was marked improvement, but not total cleansing. To be fair, OXYGEN2 is not for pet stains. Bissell markets another product for urine damage.

FINALLY I had mixed success with OXYGEN2. If I were to buy it again, I''d use it to pretreat stains or use it as a weapon of last resort. Using 16 ounces of OXYGEN2 per filling in the SpotBot or any other rug cleaner can get expensive.

These filters are not great by any means, but they do what they are supposed to do. Of course, we''ve found that it is very important to use the right bacteriostat with the filters. We bought some Sunbeam bacteriostat water treatment for humidifiers at our local Home Depot, and I swear that they just put purified water in the bottle! Once we started buying the Essick Air bacteriostat water treatment, our filters lasted much longer, and didn''t get that musty/fishy smell to them.

A handfull of Kenmore humidifiers also recommend and use this filter, Kenmore No. 14911. The two part numbers will give you the same filter which is a "paper-pleated type''. Anything other, such as the spongy foam type offered by other manufacturers, is *inferior* in performance. Beware of misleading info fooling you out of the real McCoy. The foam type filters or wicks may be obtained for half the price but require replacement 3 times as often if not more.

This year Sears 14911 and this product are not the same as that of prior years. They are about 1/2" shorter, much lighter paper weight, and most important have plastic ribs down both sides not one. They will not flex and fit in my humidifier.

I have returned them. I strongly suggest you avoid them if you need to curve the filter to fit in your humidifier.

Marella Kompakt 5-Cup Water Filtration Pitcher

Marella Kompakt 5-Cup Water Filtration Pitcher, BlueI''ve used all 3 of the major brands (Pur, Brita and Mavea) so here are my comments on my Mavea:

Pros:

1) Convenient opening on top. You can add water without having take off the whole top.

Cons:

1) The seal between the filter and the pitcher is not good. A little bit of water always falls into the no-mans-land cavity that is between the filter and the exit to the bottom. I have to take the filter out once in a while to get rid of this water. This is not a good design.

2) The lid that covers the spout causes the water to drip a little after pouring. This is not a good design.

3) The water from the Pur pitcher tastes better, it''s more sweet. This water is a little bit more metallic tasting.

I haven''t decided if I''ll keep this pitcher yet. Right now, we''re using this as a secondary pitcher near the bedrooms so people don''t have to keep going down to the kitchen to get water. But so far, I prefer the Pur pitcher.

Update:

1) The water tastes better now after 5-6 pitcher''s worth (and that''s after discarding the 1st 2).

2) I really like the convenient opening on top, everyone complains about having to pry up the Pur pitcher''s lid.

So so far it''s 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of another. I''m keeping this.

Update 2:

1) I''ve examined at the pitcher closely and discovered that there isn''t a leak between the filter seal and the exit, it''s the way it''s designed. The water from the top goes down through the filter, then it goes into a small compartment with a lip. When the water in this compartment rises above the lip it drops into the reservoir below. It looks like what this does is to prevent water in the reservoir from backflowing up to the top when pouring. So the only con of this pitcher is that it drips a little when pouring, a minor issue.

This filter is great!! I have used Brita, Pur and the Mavea is easilly my favorite. I got this one because I thought it would be more space effiecient, which it is but not by much. I really enjoy this thing! You don''t have to take the lid off, and the water from the top thats filtering down doesn''t spill out into your cup when you pour the filtered water! GENIOUS! It''s like the fixed all of the design flaws from Brita, including the black specs that look like pepper and get in your drinking cup, and I have no problem with Pur, but the mavea has an ace, and its not even up their sleave! its called meavea Filter Take-Back and Recycle Program (probably a more attractive name before translated from German). Basically, you will only have to buy 6 Filters for life. You have to buy 6 because they want to reduce their carbon footprint, so you can''t send 1 at a time. It is still awesome, and I have gone through 3 filters so far without issue. Will buy my last 3 Mavea 1001122 Maxtra Replacement Filter for Mavea Water Filtration Pitcher, 3-Pack for life! pretty sweet if you ask me! The tase is the same as filtered water, not exactly a 7 on the hp scale, but pretty dang close. ( AKA doesn''t taste like Fresh Spring Water with 7 different stages of filtration, and reverse osmosis, but it tastes like tap water that was filtered really nicely by a good filter, such as a Pur or Brita. I prefer the Mavea to those, mailny because of the recylcing, but also I dislike Brita because of the black specks. Looks like popeye seed water. in summary:

PROS:

1:The lid doesn''t allow water to spill from the filtering section into the filtered section.

2:There is a hole in the lid that can easilly be lifted with a lever at the back of the lid that allows water to be poured in without removing the lid.

3:Like the Pur that I am familiar with, there is a water filter timer. It lets you know when you need a new one.

4:Meavea Filter Take-Back and Recycle Program.

5:Water tastes great!

CONS:

1:none so far.

I love Germany. I know, I know, we need to support our Economy, and spending on anything not made here makes it harder, but we gotta make some better quality stuff! We make guns and knives really well though xD. Seriously, Germany is a well oiled machine when it comes to production. I''m very pleased with the Marella Kompakt from Mavea thus far. I''ve had it for a little more than 2 months. I''ve actually gone through 1 filter cartridge already, according to the handy digital readout on top of the pitcher lid. I was expecting a cartridge to last me 3 months, but I do use the pitcher a lot. I pretty much only drink water, coffee, and tea, and I use the Mavea for all 3 needs.

The water tastes good. The filtration is fast. I fill it up, mess around with something else in the kitchen for a few minutes, and it''s done by the time it has my attention again. The size is perfect for one or two people. I got the green color it''s a lovely springy leaf hue. Lastly, I''m excited about Mavea''s filter recycling program. They take back & recycle their own cartridges when you''ve used them up. I think the minimum to ship back to them is 6. I love that they do that at all!! It''s good to see more responsible companies available on the mass market.

I would buy this again.

Our water is highly chlorinated. This filter helps a lot. Two caveats: On my faucet, have to stick with a rubber band or it rolls off; excess granules flake off -but that may mean it''s time to change. Good part: I leave bath feeling good instead of dry and chemical-filled.

Saeco S-TT-ST Talea Touch Super-Automatic Espresso Machine Save 52% Off

Saeco S-TT-ST Talea Touch Super-Automatic Espresso MachineThe Talea Touch makes terrific coffee and has functions that are well thought out and easy to use. The only problem is that they can''t make one that works.

I bought mine in Dec. 2009 from Seattle Coffee Gear. By March 2010, I had returned my third defective machine to Saeco. All three had different problems; the first leaked all over the counter when brewing (an internal hose defect), the second could not be programmed or hold a date and time; the third has a steam wand that leaked (poured) water during the brew cycle enough to fill a shot glass for each coffee made. As of September, I have had to return it two additional times for repairs a total of 5 times.

Saeco will fix or replace this again but what does that tell you about their QC? Saeco customer service has been helpful and courteous once you reach them. Be prepared to wait > 45 minutes on their customer support line to reach a human being.

Saeco came highly recommended and it does makes great coffee and lattes when it works. If you like Audi''s, this may be the coffee machine for you.

One last note, I have attempted to submit this review many times at Seattle Coffee gear and somehow it never appears on their website.

Maybe it is a little premature and I admit I was spooked by the negative reviews, but so far I have been very happy with Talea Touch. I bought it refurbished, not from Amazon but from an auction site (you know which one) and took out an extended SquareTrade warranty. It took little to no time to prime the water circuit, make custom adjustments to the grind and strength of the shot but it resulted in amazing espresso. Prior to this, I was using a Starbucks (Saeco) Barista espresso machine with a de-pressurized portafilter along with Ascaso I-mini grinder to make my espressos/lattes/cappuchinos. Despite reading coffeegeek and Home-barista.com, adjusting the grind/tamp/temp surfing techniques, my pulls were still resulting in shots too sour or too bitter. I was considering buying a higher-end espresso machine and PID kit for better temp control, but realized that I was spending way too much time in the morning griding/dosing/pulling and cleaning when I and my wife just want the d*** coffee. Yes, with Talea touch you do have to clean the group head, descale etc. Yes, the water reservoir could be bigger, the milk island could be cheaper (don''t have one), the spent water/coffee puck reservoir could be a bit bigger as well... but when it comes to shot quality, it was on par with the shots I had in Italy or local Stumptown. And it takes less than 5 minutes to pull a shot. So far I am very happy with the purchase. Durability remains a concern so I will update the review accordingly.

I have been looking for an all-in-one coffee machine and finally found it! Of all the ones in the market I decided on the Talea Touch for a couple of reasons: it''s more compact then others and in the past I had good experience with Saeco''s smaller espresso maker that worked well for a long time. Fortunately, I didn''t read these reviews before I purchased mine from a store or I would have missed the opportunity of a great purchase. I actually like the fact that the reservoir is not too big, by replenishing it often it keeps the water fresh. The coffee is very hot for me, but I always ask for a couple of ice cubes when I travel and get coffee anywhere also. Nice little feature is the tiny wheels under the machine that makes it easy to move. Just today I added the large milk frother....can''t wait for that!!

The only disappointments I have had are that the beans don''t flow down into the hopper smoothly when it gets a little low, so you need to scoop them over manually and the water resevoir is small so it needs to be refilled frequently. Those are minor problems that are quickly overlooked once you taste the delicious espresso drinks!

This is my third Saeco machine and it is the best. Easy to operate and delivers a great product. I have it with the milk island which sure beats the steam wand for ease of use. Because of the talea''s more compact size it has a smaller water reservoir and rinse/puck container, but a fair trade-off for a great machine.
