GE FQSVF SmartWater Undersink Filter Set Save 7% Off

GE FQSVF SmartWater Undersink Filter Set
  • The GE FQSVF water filter produces healthier and better-tasting drinking water and cooking water
  • The GE FQSVF under sink filter reduces VOC, lead, cysts, asbestos, atrazine, benezene, chlorine taste & odor, lindane and mercury
  • The GE FQSVF under sink water filters also reduce sediment particles
  • Remember to change the GE WS03X10046 o-ring every few filter changes and to keep the o-ring well lubricated with silicone grease, such as GE ws60x10005 SmartWater 0.1-Ounce Food-Grade Silicone O-Ring Lubricant (sold separately)
  • Easy to replace the GE SmartWater FQSVF water filter with the new "Twist and Lock" system

These are getting harder to find. Thank Heaven this supplier still has them in stock, other suppliers are having difficulty providing these or the after-market versions. Don''t ya hate it when companies like GE keep changing their units forcing you to purchase a whole new system every few years?

Only inconvenience is that the silicon ring was not included with the product. Had to buy it separately. Otherwise it seems to work well. Installation fairly simple.

Quick ship, better price than HDepot even with paying for shipping. Next time I''ll order two boxes to have a set on hand. Lowe''s doesn''t carry this filter. Although, go to a hrdwr. store and by a little tube of ''food-grade'' lubricant for the O-rings before reading the instructions and pulling out the old filter ;) I''ve replaced these filters six times and now head the recommendation to apply a little silicone so the o-rings don''t dry and the new filter twists on easier.

I have had the GE dual water filter for about 10 years. I use the FQWVF and the FQSLF. I had this installed since it is much more cost effective than buying small bottles of water or using 5 gallon jugs of water delivered for a water cooler. I have saved huge amounts of money by using these filters instead. The water is delicious.

These filters are difficult to find nowadays. I tried Home Depot and Lowe''s and had no luck. GE changes their products and forces its customers to buy an entire new system every few years; I really hate that. I have this filter set saved in my Amazon wish list so that I can go back to reorder. Just got my 2nd set. It took me about 2 minutes to remove the old filters and install the new ones. They work quite well.

Since my memory does not serve for the most of time, I used a black marker to write down the date on the newly installed filter so that I would know when to replace them!

When I bought this last May before the product description was ##### (deleted) it stated this filter was compatible with standard RO systems. I did a lot of research before ordering this. Nowhere in the product description does it say you can''t use this on the Watts WP-5 system. As I didn''t have the old membrane out of the unit when I ordered this, how was I to see the seal is on the wrong end. As soon as I pulled the old membrane out and had the two side by side I saw the difference. I wrote to Abundant Flow Water and received the below reply. As the Watts OEM unit is available from Amazon for $34 I''ll let the readers make the decision about Abundant Flow Water''s reply... I''m sticking with the Watts OEM membrane from now on.

REPLY >>>"Those are different. That is one of Watts weird units, they make a couple that are a lot different than the industry standard. We do not stock that particular membrane. We can order it in, the cost on those are $69.50

If you want to order one, give me a call with payment info. Also, if you have a part or model number on the watts membrane, that will be helpful in getting the correct size."

Big Berkey w/ 2 Black Berkey Filters Save 6% Off

Big Berkey w/ 2 Black Berkey FiltersI searched for the best water purification technique available primarily because I was shocked at the state of our drinking water and I couldn''t just go on blindly dumping chemicals into my body. My criterion was to remove all added chemicals from my drinking water including Fluoride and as an Engineer with a scientific background I needed scientific backing.

Note: The usage of Fluoride in our water systems is controversial, but Ninety-seven percent of western Europe has eliminated fluoride from drinking water. goggle "Fluorosis" and "fluoride side effects", read the article on "about dot com" on "fluoride removal". Read the article on "livestrong dot com" on "side effects of fluoride ingestion". I quote, "Fluoride ingestion has been associated with adverse health effects such as IQ deficits in children, depression, weight gain and heart disease. The "Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics" reports that "high fluoride intake has a damaging effect on intellectual ability," and human studies from China, India, Iran and Mexico found that elevated levels of fluoride in children resulted in reduced performance and impaired development of intelligence. The U.S. National Research Council has also found that fluoride affects normal endocrine function, which may contribute to hypothyroidism, or reduced activity of the thyroid gland. Hypothyroidism can lead to fatigue, depression, weight gain, hair loss, muscle pains and heart disease.

I started off with on a friends recommendation the Nikken Pi-Mag which i soon rejected because they independent lab results were not available, fluorine was not removed from the water and I could not trust a MLM companies claims'' that were not scientifically verifiable.

I looked at Aquasana and Multipure''s product line but I became obvious that the life expectancy was about a year and I would deal with leaks, and defective housing. The reviews for the New Wave were 10Stage Filter were promising on amazon and I bought it right away, but soon grew suspicious of their claims as there were no results posted on their website either. I called New Wave customer service which I must add was great and friendly and asked for the independent lab results, which they emailed. After analyzing the results I was disappointed to see that a company that makes water filters provided results from a lab called, Truesdale lab but back in 1995 (15yrs ago!). Surely they can get this tested recently since both regulations and water quality have changed since then and made this readily available to their customers via their website. Anyway the results they provided showed that it was tested for Cyst Removal (based on the 1988 NSF standard), Lead, Choloform and Lindane removal. Fluorine was not removed which for me was not good enough.

I returned the New Wave Environ and finally found the Berkey filter system which has an additinal fluoride filter as well. Although more expensive (about 250 inclusive of a set of flouride filters), the Berkey filters would be cheaper in the long run as they last between 3,400 gallons to 19,500 gallons depending on water quality, unlike the New Wave Filter''s 1500 gallons. Furthermore I liked openness and readily accessible lab results by independent labs such as the University of Arizona, LSU and Spectrum labs (google Berkey lab results). Furthermore they are used by emergency organizations like the Redcross and Unicef.

I must add that there is no perfect system, the fluoride filters usually use an activated alumina filter media and Aluminia has been associated with Alzheimers. I was concerned about any aluminum dust residue left in the water and a little more research revealed the residue to me negligible.

Here is a comparison:

Water boiled in an Aluminium pan for 5mins had: 2.791 ppm aluminum

Colgate toothpaste: 52.878 ppm aluminum.

The Berkey flouride filter after 10 cycles had .037 ppm aluminum and after 20 Cycles: .029 ppm aluminum which in my opinion was negligible and safe.

I hope this helps you and saves you time!

*****update 6 months into using it a filter cartilage just broke! i emailed the company for a replacement and am waiting to hear back! if you can get a RO machine. Dropping the product from 4stars to 3stars.

After reading many reviews on this site as well as prep sites etc. I bought one of these units last summer (on Amazon, from Big Fly Sports) just prior to the arrival of hurricane Irene intended as a safeguard in case of potable water loss/contamination (and because our tap water tastes like algae anyway). Well, I prepped the black filters as per the instructions and gingerly tightened the plastic nuts so that they were secure but without stripping them and filled it up; the water tasted fantastic and I felt good about the investment. There is no o-ring seal, it''s a rubber gasket and both the threaded portion of the filter outlet tube and the nut are plastic so you can''t really tighten them down much plus the steel in the base of the upper chamber isn''t thick enough to keep it from flexing. I performed the red food coloring test and the water came out with a slightly pink tinge to it but considering that the dyed water in the top chamber was dark red, I thought that it was acceptable. We kept the Big Berkey on it''s own stand, filled it with water from a pitcher, didn''t take it anywhere and it wasn''t mishandled. About a month and a half or so later when I was filling it, I noticed that the filters wobbled more than usual and one simply fell over leaving it''s base and what appeared to be silicone adhesive behind; turns out the second filter was no longer adhered to it''s base either and was simply sitting there held down by gravity. I was under the assumption that this product came from British Berkefeld, known for the performance of their ceramic filters which are used to produce safe drinking water from contaminated sources. After some research online, I found out that Fairey ceramics in the UK produce the filters for BB and Doulton, I then located the UK contacts at British Berkefeld. I emailed the company to tell them what had occurred and find out if they were aware of this issue with "their" black filters. A very nice lady emailed me within a day apologizing for my issue and told me that those filters and the units themselves were produced by a company in Florida (New Millennium Concepts) which was not a subsidiary of British Berkefeld; she even went to the trouble to get their contact info for me. I inquired as to whether I could purchase the "real" British Berkefeld ceramic filters to use with my Big Berkey and she told me that their "candles" would not fit this unit. I didn''t bother to contact the company in Florida and get a new set of filters (which cost $100 for 2) because my primary reason for buying all of this was to filter contaminated water and make it safe to drink. How can I trust that there are not contaminants/protozoa/bacteria etc. that you can''t see or taste flowing around the adhesive on the filters when I really need them to work or would the adhesive decide to completely let go and allow contaminated water to pass freely? As far as I''m concerned, I paid $260 for 2 very nice looking polished steel containers that came with filters which WERE NOT produced by the company that this product is named after and whose quality I don''t trust. For that price range I could have bought a Katadyn pocket microfiter which is proven. I would use this as a fancy water dispenser to filter funky tasting tap water but I''m not paying $100 for those filters. My Berkey is in garage, we have a $25 faucet filter that uses $11 cartridges to make the tap water taste good and I just purchased an MSR Miniworks EX micro filter system (costs almost $30 less than a set of those black filter candles and can be carried in a back pack); it uses a proven ceramic filter with carbon and has a track record of reliability. The unit doesn''t make water quickly but I TRUST what is coming out of it. MSR (Cascade Designs) states that it doesn''t filter viruses but I already have a Steripen and water purification tabs to take care of that if needed (I''m thinking that those black filters weren''t filtering out any viruses either). I decided to write this because I believe that many people considering these units are very serious about preparing for emergencies where your "must haves" include safe water to hydrate with and I wanted to relay my experience to those willing to plunk down a significant chunk of change for a reliable piece of insurance (plus, I really hate feeling like I was "suckered"). I do hope that this helps in your decision and am sorry to relay my bad news in the midst of all of these great reviews which I always read and use to determine my buying decisions, but I am just being honest.

I decided against distillation, since there are many cons with that process: it produces acidic water (I used to buy distilled water from the store until I started noticing my gums were getting itchy from it), and recaptures chemicals with lower boiling points than water. This was unacceptable to me since California''s municipal water sources are heavily chlorinated. It''s so nasty, you can smell the chlorine coming out of the taps. I can''t stand the taste or smell of it. I decided against reverse osmosis because of its costs and the amount of waste water it produces. After much research, I settled on a gravity based microfilter, and Big Berkey came with lots of recommendations.

So far, after nearly filtering 200 gallons, the Big Berkey is pulling all free chlorine out of the water. Here is a pic that demonstrates:The water on the right is tap water mixed with a chlorine/bromine indicator solution. The color indicates that the tap water in Monterey, CA has more chlorine than a healthy swimming pool. YUCK! The water on the right is from the Big Berkey. The indicator solution shows there is no detectable chlorine! SWEET!

I''ve been using this for over a year now, and this water filter system is truly a pain in the arse. Before I was filtering and leaving the excess water in the Berkey, but then a mold problem formed with the filters. I started over with new filters and did not have that problem again, because I do not let water sit there overnight anymore. Basically, I filter about 6 jugs to last a few days and then empty the Berkey and let it dry. The filters are fickle, and I''ve gone through about 4 pairs in a year in a half. One thrown out from the mold problem, another set thrown out because it would just not filter, and another thrown out because after awhile the water started coming out so quickly, as if it wasn''t filtering out at all.

I no longer filter it into the stainless steel container. Instead, I set the Berkey on top of 2 glass juice pitchers as seen here:

http://www.amazon.com/Luminarc-Quadro-2-Liter-Glass-Pitcher/dp/B0013Z9NY0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1328550827&sr=8-2

When you do that, you can see which filter works slower or faster than the others. It''s eye opening.

I''m already looking for a new water filter and would never recommend this one. I also agree with others, on the ancient tests this company provides, and no longer believe in the product.

After a lot of research on water filtration systems I finally purchased the Big Berkey with 2 Black Berkey Elements in December 2010 and while the water may taste great, it''s been nothing but trouble ever since.

From day one the spout of the spigot (where the water actually comes out; not where it connects to the Berkey) would not stop dripping. I have to keep a bucket under it to catch the water (we''re not talking a few drips; more like a pint or more of excess water dripping out per fill up). I assumed maybe there was a bit of plastic or debris caught inside somewhere preventing the lever from fully closing and that it might work its way out and stop dripping at some point, Nope; it''s just gotten worse. (I have since reported this and a free replacement spigot is on its way).

Then in July 2011 I discovered both black elements had come loose from their bases. Fortunately they offered to replace them for free. But now in December 2011, just 5 months later, one of the new black elements has come loose from its base. AGAIN! Fortunately it happened within a 6 month period otherwise I would now have to PAY to have the faulty element replaced. Maybe it''s just me but it you send me something that''s faulty I should be entitled to a FREE replacement at least for the first couple of years. Just my humble opinion but at least it would encourage them to adhere to higher standards and stricter quality control.

In any case this water filtration system has left a sour taste in this user''s mouth.

I do not recommend these at all. The paper is too thick and they taste like it! You get six pushes with 7 filter packs in each pouch. Thus when you open one pouch all 7 filter packs are exposed to air. I really like the masterblend version of these which come in the little packets and you use your own filter. But regardless both are made for 10 cups of water 12 is too weak

We used these for years. So convenient to just pop in a premeasured filter disk and easy disposal after use. Here''s a neat trick we learned, put in a regular filter, then put 1 or 2 small scoops of an expensive strong flavor coffee, and one Maxwell filter pack on top. Makes great coffee, a little stronger than normal and you can vary the taste by using different coffee brands and flavorings.

The item says "1 MICRON" in huge yellow letters, under that a in blue smaller print "2 LAYERS NOMINAL FILTRATION", then in tiny light grey letters it says "1st Layer 10 Micron Inner layer 5 Micron".

I am not too upset, they were only 10$.

Living in the country does have its draw backs. We started with iron water and then put in a cistern to collect rain water. It did have one problem which was some soil and leaves which were not trapped by the initial filter. But the 1 Micron filter clarified the rain water and we are absolutely spoiled to have rain water to wash dishes and clothes. The most wonderful thing about these filters is when you take a shower the water is actual clean rain water which leaves your skin and hair soft and your shower sparkling.

I selected Complete Filtration Systems from Amazon''s marketplace vendors for my 4-pack. I received 4 Flow-Pro FPMB1-978 1 micron filters. I was pleasantly surprised that this part number has an NSF symbol on it. This filter is for my well water since I live in a rural area. It is replacing an Aqua Pure 5 micron filter that did a pretty good job of removing iron sediment from my well water for 9 months. The Aqua Pure cost me $15 at the local plumbing store.

Prior to the Aqua Pure 5 micron, I had a GE FXUSC 30-50 micron filter but it barely lasted 3 months.

I''ll see how long the Flow-Pro lasts. I''m especially curious about how much of a flow reduction I am going to see in the next few months, since the Aqua Pure 5 micron was pretty consistent throughout its service life. At the price of $10 for 4 filters, I can afford to change a filter as often as every 3 months.

3-month update: my circa-1982 well/pump was on its way out, yet completely filled up two of these filters in the past 2 months when I overpumped the well a few times this summer. Now I''m on the 4th filter after replacing my 1-hp well pump. The filters would have lasted much longer if my well wasn''t having iron/silt and pump issues. I''m still very satisfied with these filters, and just ordered another 4-pack. It''s nice to have clear water coming out of the faucets and showerheads.

I bought this for my RO system which has clear containment covers so you can look at your filters and judge the need to swap them. At this price, having clean water is dirt cheap.

Other than the great price, a major pro is that each filter is individually wrapped, then the 4 are re-wrapped keeping things clean. I''m uploading a picture of the 3 filters I changed in my R.O. system after just 6 months. That doesn''t seem like a long time, but please look at the uploaded photo to see the importance of changing filters regularly, including the 1 micron and the carbon block filters.

My only regret is that amazon does not stock a complete 5 micron / 1 micron 4 pack set because most all water filters start with a 5 micron to get rid of the pipe buildup, scale, and the junk the city sends you. Then they pass through a 1 micron later (along with perhaps a carbon block) to protect the r.o. membrane. So to do an effective change you really need both 5 micron and 1 micron in the same quantity for any water filter (air filters can also use these on high pressure / flow compressor installations which makes them very flexible as a filter media)

At the same time I bought a carbon block for my 3 "bulk" filter stages which really do need changing every 6 months.Watts 202000 10-Inch 5-Micron for Multi-Cartridge Whole House Water Filter with Solid Block Activated Carbon

A kit with a 5 micron, the carbon block, and a 1 micron would really be nice as it would deal with 90% of the RO systems 6 month change intervals. My in line TDS meter has gone from 4 ppm output to 14 ppm so I know its time to change numerically also. Someone should kit together the 3 pieces needed for most RO systems as they are cheap and simple to buy.

I don''t believe these are 1=micron sediment filters but they are as good or better than the 5-micron ones I was using. We will see how long they last between changes.

Seychelle Family Water Pitcher- STD Filter System

Seychelle Family Water Pitcher- STD Filter SystemI was impressed with the features of this pitcher. We shopped around and Amazon beat the price. It is a good size, larger than brita. I love the quality of water. I would deffinately recommend.

I know this would be a great help in an emergency situation where fresh drinking water could be a problem. However, I bought this because of the claim that it filters not only the chlorines and bacterias out of our everyday water but also filters the chemicals and other things in our water that is harmful. I have had other water filters. I thought they worked good. I loved this filter system. It supplies drinking water quickly and the water tastes great. I drink a lot of water and I have never liked the taste of bottled water. Great Product.

Blueair 450E HepaSilent Digital Air-Purification System

Blueair 450E HepaSilent Digital Air-Purification SystemI am extremely pleased with the Blueair 450E. It is very quiet and very effective. It is so sensitive in auto mode that punching a dusty pillow on the other side of a 15-foot room will soon start it running. So, I just keep mine set to auto.

UPDATE 02/19/2012: I did some remodeling in my apartment during which my 450E ingested substantial amounts of spackling dust. The auto-mode stopped working. It sounded as though it were trying to reduce power to medium setting, yet remained on high constantly. I used a small soft brush to clean the sensor screen which is about 60mm x 15mm and located at the outlet end. This did not cure the malfunction. I dipped the brush in denatured alcohol then tried, gently, poking a little, to get the bristles of the brush through the mesh opening. (The mesh is not rigid.) Finally, I set the machine with outlet side up, then poured 2 fl. ounces of the denatured alcohol through the mesh, which then soaked the sensor element. I waited 30 minutes. Works like new!

I have this air purifier for a few weeks now and in general I am very satisfied. I like the rugged, all metal case construction, and the very powerful fan that can really move the air around when you want it to (as opposed to some other purifiers which produce rather feeble air flow). Operation is simple and straightforward.

Here are some caveats though: The first unit I purchased had some slight rattle coming from the fan in silent mode. I returned that and it was fixed with a replacement unit. Also, the circuit boards in both the first and second unit I got emitted some quite noticeable "new computer smell" for the first couple days of operation. After about a week of use this was gone though. If you are sensitive to this kind of electronics smell you might want to run the unit for a few days in a different room before moving it to your bedroom. The quiet mode is very quiet but still ever so slightly audible (my wife is still bothered by it at night when the unit is close to her side of the bed), I wish the unit had an even slower, quieter mode.

Customer service was very helpful and went to great lengths to resolve questions and issues I had.

We have had this Blueair silent air purifier for a couple years now and love it! My wife and I both have allergies and we run it in our bedroom every night. It is so quiet in fact that sometimes we forget to switch it off in the morning!

We live in a major city, which is very polluted.

It helps very much with dust and allergies. In fact, if I am having a really bad allergy attack (spring or summer after mowing the grass for example), I can go in my room, turn on the Blueair on high, and in a couple minutes my head and ears clear, my chest relaxes and the old "allergy headache" goes away.

This thing is better and faster than taking medicine!

Blueair customer service has been very responsive as well! When we order filters they always arrive even faster than promised.

Keep the filters changed, wipe off the outside from time to time, and you will enjoy clean air and fewer allergy headaches too!

The strength of the Blueair 450E is its quiet operation (claimed to be only 27 dB on the lowest setting). On the two lowest speeds the noise levels are very modest. The highest setting, at which the air flow ratings are measured, is noisy, but that is true of all HEPA filters. The system includes gas and particle sensors (poorly labeled as "smell" and "dust" sensors) with a primitive readout of 1, 2, or 3 bars; the display also includes a frowning face at 3 bars and a smiling face at 1 bar--I find this type of labeling annoying but have not allowed it to affect my rating). The sensors permit an auto mode that adjusts the fan speed so that the room is kept clean. The sensors do seem to correspond moderately well with the air quality, but the auto mode has a tendency to kick into high gear for brief periods when a longer burst on the level 2 setting would suffice. Given that the level 3 setting is quite a bit louder than the other two this is a flaw that could easily have been avoided. (For example an auto mode that is optionally limited to the two lower speeds would be convenient for night time when one is trying to sleep.) This purifier is well constructed and should last for many years. The most significant flaw is that the filters must be exchanged every 6 months and the filters with activated carbon costs $120 each--this makes the Blueair maintenance costs among the highest for models in this class of air purifiers. I have not tried operating the purifier with the cheaper HEPA-only filter (which costs half as much as the "smoke-stop" filters) and I wonder how well the auto mode will function when using a filter that only removes particles (you need activated carbon to remove gas contaminants so the particle filters don''t seem to have any way to remove the gas contaminants that the sensor detects).

HEPA filters can, in principle, remove 99.97% of particles that are 0.3 microns in size from the air. The actual performance however depends strongly on the quality of the air purifier because if air leaks around the filter you won''t get anywhere near 99.97% purification. I have seen independent tests indicating Blueair purifiers achieve 98% efficiency whereas some premium brands only have scores of ~80-90%. Of course, with multiple air changes per hour, even 80% filtering efficiency will ultimately get the job done, but the higher ratings will do a better job for a given amount of air flow.

If you as concerned about noise levels and not especially concerned about replacement filter costs the Blueair 450E deserves strong consideration. If you want low operating costs and can tolerate high noise levels there are more cost effective options out there.

In the winter when the windows are closed up the awful smoke smell from the downstairs apartment is strong enough make my hair and all my clothes stink, and my eyes and throat burn. I tried several other (cheaper) air purifiers but none worked very well, so after much research I decided to try a much higher quality purifier and bought a Blueair 450 with a smokestop filter. It helps. It definitely takes some of the nastiness out of the air and makes the air quality better. There will still be a smell, cigarette stink is pervasive and awful and extremely difficult to get rid of completely, you''d really do better to find a different place to live if you can, but if you are stuck living with or adjacent to a smoker this helps make it a little more tolerable.

KRUPS KM611D50 Precision Programmable 12-Cup Coffee Maker with Glass Carafe and Stainless Steel Housing, SilverThe pros are the price and that this pot makes very good coffee. The negative is that it malfunctions and depending on your luck can stop working after a month. I am now up to my 3rd pot of this type. My first pot lasted 1 year, the second only one month. i did attempt to change brands but could not find one that met my requirements for good coffee and ease. I bought the Technivorm for $300 which offered no features. It had no water filter which affects taste, no safety auto shut off, and the coffee taste was not better than the Krups. Moved on to the Calphalon pot which was a bustthe reviews of the Calphalon are almost all negative and i agree. This journey led me back to the Krups. I decided to deal with the reliability issue by ordering a back up pot and saving my receipt for any return. Amazon is a reliable dealer for returning defective merchandise. Good luck!

I needed a coffee maker for a 2nd kitchen where the cabinets are too low to the counter for the Cuisinart Brew Central which I have in the original kitchen and which I love. This coffee maker is short and squat which fits under the cabinets but is awkward because it is fat which makes it difficult to pour and impossible to use the carafe to add water to the machine.. In adddition, there are 2 other features I really dont like: the water is supposed to be poured in through a small, built-in filter which splashes up. This part which also contains the holder for the coffee may be removed and the water can be added directly into the machine, except the opening is still small. Also, and more important, the water indicator is INSIDE the machine where you add the water and is only measured in 2-cup intervals which are also unprecise so it''s hard to tell how much over you are until the next 2-cup line is reached... and you cannot brew an odd # of cups without guesswork. It makes a decent cup of coffee but you will have to use a measuring cup of some sort and tweak the amount of water until you arrive at the right measurement... a lot of work and guessing, so for the price I''d go elsewhere

I have owned a few coffee makers (too many!)& aside from a Bodum vacuum coffee maker I have always found Krups to make a great cup of coffee. We got this one about 2 years ago & haven''t had a mechanical problem yet. My only complaint is that the water compartment & brew basket are under the same lid & if you are not careful the coffee grounds can get into the water area & are awful to get out!

I purchased this through Amazon on July 12, despite a few off-putting reviews. It made very good coffee (the cone shaped filter is, I think, superior to the flat ones in this regard) and it was kept at an optimal temperature for us. It was nice-looking, though the fit and finish weren''t too good the top didn''t close squarely, etc. You cannot use the carafe to fill the reservoir with water because of the way the top is designed and the small opening to the water reservoir. Not ideal, but I was willing to work around all that. However, on August 20 (a few days after the last return date for Amazon), it failed in the middle of brewing a pot of coffee. Just stopped. No heat to the plate. Nothing. The clock and lights still worked, but no coffee. I went through the little check list (duh). I called Krups. I am supposed to send it to the nearest approved repair shop; they are sending me a shipping label (so generous). I will have it back or be ok''d to get a replacement in 4-5 weeks. Wow. That, I think, is pitiful customer service. I had this happen once with a Kitchenaid and they sent me a new one within a week, with apologies. If you buy one of these (which I can''t encourage you to do), have a back up. Keep your box etc for at least 2 months, then you could maybe send it back to Amazon for replacement since they generally have great customer service, in my experience. No more Krups for me.

Tried top rated Hamilton Beach Brew Station Deluxe(#47454)from Consumers Reports. Good coffee (NOT great) but coffee is heated within the coffee filter which is part of the carafe. After brewing stops, the steam from the coffee warmer goes into the filter & the coffee grinds are dripping into the carafe all the time. Tried removing hot grinds & filter right after brew, but still had only "good" coffee. Had to return it.

This newer version of original Krups does not drip coffee(little drips, if at all) when you take out carafe while brewing. They fixed the carafe, so that when you pour coffee it does NOT spill on counter, too. You can hear the steam hitting the grinds, while brewing. Great coffee!! Another plus, is that it is programmble...I wake up for work & my "Great" coffee is ready.

Cons: Slight blemmish on stainless steel top of coffee maker, but who cares when it makes "Great" coffee!

Zorbx - Value Pack Unscented Odor Remover Save 42% Off

Zorbx - Value Pack Unscented Odor RemoverThe BEST odor remover I have ever found. I have been using this product for at least 7 years. Occasionaly I have tried other products with even bigger claims, but always keep ZORBX on hand because I can rely on it. It always gets rid of that ''wet dog'' odor, and even helped with a gasoline spill on the back floor mat in my car. The BEST of all is when our neighborhood ''Peppy la Peu'' runs into one of the neighborhood cats in my back yard at 2:30 in the morning. The smell always wakes me up, and the ZORBX lets me get back to sleep. Hope you will enjoy it as well.

I read or heard about a commercial product whose name begins with Fab was good for odors. Turns out its strong perfume odor is worse than what I was trying to get rid of. Searching around I came across an odorless oder remover which sounds like an oxymoron.

I used it in a car that had been used by a smoker for ten years and it worked!

This product does what it says . . . eliminates odor without leaving any kind of sweet smell. I carry a small spray bottle in my travel bag and never have to worry about odors in hotels or any that I may leave behind. Others have asked me about it and i''ve given lots of the small bottles away . . . when I can find them! Nearly impossible to locate in any stores so have to special order. I found the big refill bottles on Amazon so at leave I''ll never run out myself. Great product . . . finally something that really works. Just wish it was easier to find.

Found it back in 2004 when i lived in Cleveland and purchased a car online from Boston. the car smelled like an ASHTRAY when i picked it up due to a couple of chain smoking previous owners. i got a great deal, but the drive back to cleveland in the dead of winter with the windows open was murder. drove by the MFG of this stuff and stopped in and purchased it on chance that it could help. the inventor/owner told me how to approach it, spraying EVERYWHERE IN THE CAR, ie., under the seats, the headliner, interior panels, air vents, etc.... and leaving the windows open for the day and then repeating the process. IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM AFTER TWO TREATMENTS. i''ve been a beleiver ever since. i''m in the real estate biz and it works great on severe pet oders and smoke smells in homes as well. it makes my job easier. thanks.

When first installed, it worked beautifully. After a month or so, the flow slowed dramatically. This was not the case with a GE filter that we used previously. We have rinsed the filter and checked the water line, the problem is the filter.

RF-9999-3 PUR 3-Stage Mineral Clear Faucet Filter Replacement CartridgeThe PUR RF-9999-3, 3 Stage Replacement Faucet Filter is a great buy. The water is crystal clear and taste as close to pure as you can probably get. It is easy to replace, and takes ore contaminates out of the water than the 2 stage filters do. I would recommend this filter to anyone wanting better tasting and healthier water.
