  • Life is up to 3000 gallons or 6 months, depending on the quality of your water

I moved into a new condo last year and the people that sold me it told me about the filter system under the sink, which has worked great. They said to replace it in about six months, and I finally got around to doing it. When I got online, I saw that they had Good, Better, and Best. I thought about going with the top of the line, but tap water in NYC is very good anyway, so figured I''d just get the cheapest to start. Replacement was pretty straightforward and I didn''t need any special tools.

In all honesty, I didn''t notice much of a difference in the TASTE between the old filter and the new, but I''m not sure that anyone would be able too. The stuff it''s filtering out is probably microparticles that we can''t really detect.

But what I DID notice, was that the flow of water through the special water spout (which is separate from the main faucet) came out much stronger. So that tells me that the old one was gunked up a bit and that it worked.

Bottom line, it shipped on time, did what it said it would, and I''ll order again when I need to.

Enviromate P7 Pronto Portable 4-Bar Pressure Hand Held Steam Cleaner and Fabric Steamer Save 23% Off

Enviromate P7 Pronto Portable 4-Bar Pressure Hand Held Steam Cleaner and Fabric SteamerSteam cleaners have their place but you should know their limitations. They basically spray a very tiny stream so if you''re cleaning a large surface (like a sink or countertop, for instance) it''s going to take forever. And you have to wipe off the surface afterwards to remove the water/dirt that''s left behind. But the benefit is that you won''t have to use chemicals. That''s great for people with asthma or with pet birds, etc.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this unit. A lot of the competitor''s brands don''t get hot enough to actually sanitize, but supposedly this one does. (Don''t know how you''d be able to prove it, though). But it did leave the surfaces I cleaned more "clean" looking than usual. On my countertop & glass cooktop there were no streaks like when I used chemicals before. The toilet looks cleaner than from just spraying with chemicals but you still have to wipe off the nasty water as the steamer will "rehydrate" whatever dirt is present, which tended to send a cloud of really stinky pee scented steam in my face in the kid''s bathroom. It didn''t work well on a grimy kitchen sink (the pressure wasn''t enough to blast off any caked on dirt or soap.) Ditto with mess on bird cages. But it works well on surfaces that are not too dirty/caked to begin with.

As for the particular unit, I found the extension hose the only tool that would allow me to reach what I needed to clean. If you just hold the unit without the extension hose you''ll tire your hand & you won''t be able to reach most areas because you''re not supposed to tip the unit. It''s best to leave it sitting on the counter & use the extension hose, except that you have to hold down the button on the unit itself with your other hand. That can be awkward. I suppose you could tie a string around it to hold the button down, but after a few minutes you lose pressure while the unit re-heats. It seems that other brands I researched have similar limitations. Another disappointment is that you can''t tell how full the water tank is, and you''re supposed to empty all water before putting the unit away.

So you''ll get a good clean as long as you know it''s going to take a very long time and you''ll have to wipe up loads of water. But if you have a problem with using chemicals this is one alternative.

I didn''t purchase this on Amazon but wanted to add a review because, like others, I did a lot of research before purchasing.

I purchased this for sanitation of furniture and mattresses, mainly, but looked forward to the other cleaning possibilities. A big factor in my purchase was the price point--so it is a bit less expensive than higher-end, larger machines...but then again, kind of expensive for its size and volume capacity.

Overall, it works well for me--good portability, seems solidly built, and I did not have the issue of the steam stopping after 20 seconds, as another reviewer mentioned. One thing I enjoy about it is you can refill it right when it empties--you do not have to wait for it to cool down. So even though it doesn''t hold a lot, there is no waiting in between. And I find that it is ready to use very quickly.

The directions do warn you that if you hold the button down for a constant stream, you will lose pressure faster. And there is a little light that warns you when it is working to build up pressure. I tend to push the button on and off--puffing the steam out--when I see that the light is on--to avoid completely running out of pressure. I don''t often run into a problem of running out of pressure unless I am out of water.

One thing that was disappointing is that some of the attachments don''t disperse the steam well but kind of turn it to water (like the towel attachment, which I use to clean upholstery with). That tends to get wet and the upholstery does get a bit damp--which really shouldn''t happen with very hot steam.

If you use just the nozzle though, the steam does seem to be as hot as it is advertised--as far as I can tell--because it is a pretty dry steam--does not make things wet or turn right into water.

I did try cleaning some of my bathroom tiles out--for getting dirt between the tiles it worked almost a little too well--I couldn''t seem to stop getting dirt out and gave up. That was for old vinyl tiles though--with the grout, I would say I had similar results as the other review who said it seemed to help but not amazing results. The nice thing is that it should be sanitizing, at the advertised temperature, so you don''t need to use harsh chemicals.

I am hoping to try this out on removing paint next...will see how that goes and maybe report back if it works well.

Hi,

After much back and forth over what steam cleaner to try I decided to try this one since I read a very positive review on this product and the price was right. However, as I suspected, it did not meet my expectations. I was very excited to try this item and upon receiving it (great shipping by the way, I received very quickly) I started cleaning right away. It was easy to use, I was able to use the attachments with no problem. I started in the kitchen with the sink. I was very excited to get that "white rim" that surrounds my faucet. But, nothing. It did not come clean. Then I moved onto the stove it cleaned it, but a sponge and cleaner worked better. Then I moved to the fridge again, it worked OK but not quite as good as sponge and cleaner. So, I decided to try the fabric attachment and work on a stain on my couch nothing. So, I think I''m going to try one of the larger steaming units (that you can also do the floor) Wish me luck!

I am a mom with two children and two dogs. I recently purchased the Pronto to clean my house because I hold a lot of holiday events in my home and wanted it nicely cleaned and sanitized overall. Before purchasing a steam cleaner I did some research and found that the Pronto doesn''t use any chemicals. For me, that was the deciding factor because I try to be as environmentally friendly as possible. I used it to clean my kitchen and it worked great on the sink, stove, and countertops. I especially loved how easy it was to use, cleaning every nook and cranny. It got rid of grime and built up dirt that were in tough places to reach. There were no streaks left behind when I was finished, making everything look brand new! I also found that it heated up fast, was ready to use quickly and had excellent steam pressure. I tried it on a cushion that had a stain on it from one of my dogs and it cleaned it up nicely and got rid of that wet dog smell that was left behind. I am very happy with my purchase and think it was worth the price. I recommend this product to anyone who does extensive cleaning in their home.

A purchase I don''t regret, but once you''ve released the pressure, excellent pressure though it is, and steamed something for 20 or more seconds, you have to wait another 20 or more seconds for the pressure to rebuild and the steam to come back. Certainly good for little jobs like cleaning the nooks and crannies on a stove, dishwasher, etc., but without a 2nd unit, a big pain to use on larger projects like toilets, bathtubs, etc. Wanna steam your wallpaper off? Even 2 of these wouldn''t be enough. All that being said, a handy tool that will be used on my house for the right occasions, but definitely not something to use on a daily, or even weekly, basis.

Clear2o 1 Pitcher Filter

Clear2o 1 Pitcher FilterI use this on a boat which has a traditional steel faucet. The adapter to plug the hose in with comes with several sizing''s to make this possible. One worked. The pitcher fills quickly and the water is great. We can''t use this in our kitchen which has a big non-traditional faucet head, but otherwise this is easily the best pitcher on the market.

It is worlds faster than any drip pitcher (I have Brita and PUR) and it filters contaminants as well as any consumer grade filter I''ve researched.

After searching for the best price and looking at the reviews I finally chose this water filter. I noticed that it had a few bad reviews but you will see that with most items. Sometimes people get a badly manufactured item or maybe they don''t know how to use what they have purchased. I must say this item worked just as well as the manufacturers filter. Water is clean, clear and tastes great. It took several gallons of water for the air and cloudy water to clear up but after that it has been perfect. I would recommend and will buy again!!!

I''ve bought two of these now and I love them. I think other reviews that talk about murkiness and coloration haven''t read the instructions that tell you to flush up to four gallons of water through it before drinking. I''ve never had to do that much. I ran about a gallon through both times and now my water is tasting sweet! It''s just my wife and I so we go up to a year with one and the flavor never got bad. With name brands costing almost twice as much, you can''t go wrong with this.

Kitchenaid 4.5 Inch Santoku Knife Red HandleVery good for chopping. Keeps a nice edge. Handle is somewhat slender, especially for a male user. Would prefer this knife in 5 1/2 inches and a very thin, hard blade. Am wondering if there is a 5 1/2 inch standard knife available and if it has a more slender blade than the Santoku. Waterwise 4000 Water Steam Distiller Save 17% Off

Waterwise 4000 Water Steam Distiller - Glass Jug / ContainerWe bought our distiller, which is like this one, years ago under the Kenmore name. We purchased it because we moved into a house with well water and we were expecting our first baby... and well, you know how it is, we were worried about water quality.

Well our darlin'' is now 9 years old and the distiller is still going strong, providing us with flavorless water for drinking. Having lived with well water now, I can tell you that it prolongs the life of coffee machines and steamers by reducing mineral deposits on heating elements and what-not.

And we liked this machine enough that we have purchased another Waterwise unit. This second unit is more attractive, but to tell you the truth, I like this older version better. For one thing, it doesn''t have any plastic tubing which can crack and/or leave plastic particles in the water.

If appearance isn''t a problem, I''d definitely buy this distiller. This system is just simple and best. Ours has run for years and the only thing I would do differently is that I would clean it with vinegar more often so the mineral deposits wouldn''t build up and make the interior so unaesthetic.

Notes: Like our other Waterwise, this distiller is fairly noisy.

Pam T~

Purchased this about 2 months ago. I live in the mountains and our water comes out of a spring, which is exposed in a creek for about 10-15 feet. I am gratefull to no longer be exposed to the high doses of chlorine and who knows what else through our water as I was living in the city where you could literally smell it in the water. But we do not have a effective home filtering system to weed out any living org.s as I would like. I have kidney issues due to my ignorant diet and life style of old.

I now need to baby my organs and have adapted a much healtier diet and lifestyle and have experienced many benefits. Although I have more energy, no headaches and heart burn, warts, bladder infections and other afflictions of years ago, I have to be very carfull what I take in especially where my liver and kidneys are concerned! I was purchasing nearly 20 gallons of distilled water weekly for tea, drinking and produce wash and soaking. What a pain! The cost may have only been about 70 cents a bottle but the lifting, transporting and storing was for the birds. Considering that these also come in plastic bottles that have sat on a truck and in a warehouse and in my trunk, I can only imagine the contaminants I was still taking in.

This distiller just had to be given a chance. I dont have alot of money so I want the most "bang for my buck" and my health resonably possible.

I have worked this baby to the max., sometimes pushing it to pump out 2-3 gals a day. Has worked wonderfully! I know many reviewers dont like the glass jug with it.......I however do. I have not attached the handle and it fits just fine up next to the distiller. I just need to be extremely carefull to not drop when moving it.

I have so benefited from this appliance I am considering purchasing one for a friend with health and water issues. Only thing is I think I will get same distiller only not pay the extra for the jug and just tell her to find a glass jar or jug that might best suit her.The glass jug is really thin and seemns easy to chip or break. I have my eye open for a thicker one for myself as well. Probably for less than $45.

I highly recommend this distiller. If I can give it longer breaks I try and pour some white vinegar in and let it soak in distiller overnite or while I am out for the day, then wipe and rinse it out before next batch. Easy enough. Gratefull to have this appliance :o)

After two years the thermostatic switch in my Waterwise 4000 started going wacky. After the unit finished distilling the water it would shut itself off. But then for some reason it would turn back on again. I am afraid it has become a fire hazard.

Read Best Reviews of Waterwise 4000 Water Steam Distiller Here

I recently bought a new Model 4000 distiller that came with a glass bottle / collector instead of the usual plastic collecting jug I am very disappointed with the glass unit; it is not of the exceptionally high quality I have grown accustomed to vis-à-vis Waterwise distillers. I strongly suggest the decision to furnish the glass unit with the distiller instead of the plastic jug used for many years is a serious marketing mistake; sadly I cannot find the formerly furnished plastic collection bottle listed for sale on the Waterwise Web site as an individual item.

Specific issues concerning the glass collector include:

The lid and pour cover do not "snap in place", they are not a snug fits, rather, both fit loosely.

The lid keeper is poorly designed and, at best, only marginally secures the lid.

The adapter cover is not secured to the unit thus promoting its quick loss.

The vertical handle promotes bulkiness; the side handle on the plastic is a much better design.

Glass breaks, BPA free appropriate plastic is virtually unbreakable.

Want Waterwise 4000 Water Steam Distiller Discount?

I recently purchased this item and am very happy with it. I am happy with the quality of the product. It was very easy to put together and get started distilling water. The only negative for me is the design of the glass pitcher. I transfer the distilled water from the glass pitcher to a plastic jug in order to store the water in my fridge. The lip on the glass pitcher will dribble water every where when you start to pour from it. You have to be very careful. My solution is to use a large funnel to catch the dribble as I pour the water into the jug.

Other than that design flaw, I am happy with this product.

It does what it says it will do. I have a friend who says hers has operated , trouble free for a number of years and I hope mine will do so also. I would recommend purchasing this to anyone who wants pure, safe drinking water.

Haier WDNSC145 Convertible Freestanding Full-Size/Tabletop Water Dispenser

Haier WDNSC145 Convertible Freestanding Full-Size/Tabletop Water DispenserThis is my first Haier product. I''ve had this for a couple weeks and it has been working great. When you first turn the cold water switch on, it takes about 10-15 mins to get cold, but if you leave it on it''s cold all the time. Same with the hot water, it takes about 5 minutes or so to heat up.

One problem i''ve noticed (minus the one star) is that when you have both hot and cold water switches on, both the hot water and cold water compete for ready access. This is not a big deal, so I usually just leave one switch on a time (usually cold since it gets the majority usage).

As far as heating and cooling quality, when it''s hot, it''s SUPER hot. When it gets cold, it''s cold enough to condensate your glass, but not ice cold still refreshing!

UPDATE: Here''s something else I wanted to add. Unlike other water coolers, this one does not run constantly cold or hot. If you have the cold switch on, it will keep recooling the water in cycles (you''ll see the cold water light go on every 20-30 mins or after use). Same with hot water. If you have the switch on, it will reheat the water in cycles (every 20-30 mins or after use). Another minor annoyance (-.5 stars), but again, it''s tolerable.

Updated rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

I was attracted to this unit because it includes separate power switches to turn off the hot and/or cold water when you want to. I like hot water on the red tap, and room temperature water on the blue tap, and it''s actually very hard to find that combination of features.

Unfortunately, the water that comes out tastes like burnt plastic. I called manufacturer, who suggested soaking the inside of the unit with solution of baking soda (1 Tbsp), vinegar (1 Tbsp), and water (1 Gal), but this did not fix the problem.

One other note: Having tried out a few water dispenser units recently, I can say without a doubt that this one has the most annoying child safety device on the hot water tap. As a result, the hot water tap is awkward to use.

Manufacturer offered to send a replacement but it would take three weeks to arrive. Since we had already waited two weeks for delivery of the original unit, I decided to return the product for a refund instead.

The Amazon.com return page said I would have to pay return shipping, but I called Amazon and they sent me a free return shipping label.

In sum: the product quality was lousy but the customer service from the manufacturer was pretty good and from Amazon was outstanding.

I bought this unit when I was moved to the bungalows at my school and wanted a way to have hot water for instant coffee and cold water for the many days when our room a/c is broken. For the three months that I''ve had it so far, it''s been great. I like the fact that I can turn the power off on the unit for evenings or weekends (just adds good peace of mind), and switch it on in the mornings for quick hot water and refreshing cold water throughout the day. I use 3-gallon home delivery bottles that I take to and from school without problem and these, combined with the countertop nature of this dispenser, make this just too convenient for me NOT to have!

Read Best Reviews of Haier WDNSC145 Convertible Freestanding Full-Size/Tabletop Water Dispenser Here

We''ve only had the dispenser for about a month now, so I don''t know how valuable my opinion really is. Nevertheless, no problems thus far. The design is slightly confusing, not in respect to putting the base together, that was pretty straightforward, took only 15-20 minutes. But the base is made out of thin plastic panels, on which you place the 25-30 pound water filter machine, and then on top of that goes the 5 gallon jug of water. Honestly, I''m amazed the whole thing hasn''t collapsed. But there it is, with no visible signs of the dispenser falling over anytime soon. There was a bizarre, chlorine like odor in the kitchen the fist week we turned the machine on, but no one''s gotten sick from the water. -UPDATE: the dispenser lasted from 2007 to 2012. That''s five years without one problem with it. Not a bad deal for the price.

We recently discontinued our bottled water service at work to save some money. So the four employees that are in the office on a daily basis chipped in to buy our own unit (and refill our 5-gal jug at home). I did a lot of reviewing on Amazon and other sites. This unit stood out as the best deal. After some easy assembly and start-up, we are all extremely pleased with it (one month later). It''s great having on/off switches for both hot and cold water. We can turn the unit off on the weekends to save power. We did have a slight leak in the cold water spigot. But after popping the lever with it''s own spring action, it re-seated and has worked fine since. Something to keep an eye on. Very happy overall.

Intellitec WPT1000 Digital Water Purity Tester

Intellitec WPT1000 Digital Water Purity TesterKnowing how many particulates are in your water helps you decide how to use that water; drinking, cooking, washing, plant irrigation, etc. Living in the Phoenix, AZ area guarantees safe but hard, particle-rich water. The Intellitec tester consistently gives the following readings (in ppm, or parts per million):

Outside faucet: 700 800 (local water has daily variations in quality)

Bottled, flavored drinking water: 500 600

Inside faucet (softener, whole-house filter with standard cartridge ... GE FXUSC): 450

Inside faucet (softener, whole house filter with carbon sediment cartridge ... GE FXWTC): 350

Reverse osmosis dedicated faucet: 35

The Intellitec tester confirms our decision to use the RO water for drinking and cooking ... and to avoid commercially bottled water.

The only "con" I have is the tester''s on/off switch. It works inconsistently; one has to get used to the correct amount of pressure for it to turn on!

*Edited*

Dunk this device into water and a number will appear on the display. The bigger the number, the less pure the water is. However, if you compare those numbers with an accurate TDS meter, the numbers are not even close. Someone might find it useful to compare the the *relative* purity of some water samples. I didn''t. I needed a good PPM number to know when to change a Reverse Osmosis membrane.

As mentioned by another reviewer, this tester does NOT indicate water safety. It measures disolved solids, not bacteria. A "pure" mountain stream at 10 PPM TDS could get you a good case of giardia.

This tester is not a TDS meter. The number displayed has no particular relation to TDS (Total Dissolved Solids, parts per million). Nor is the unit able to be calibrated. As such it is not a TDS meter. To the manufacturer''s credit, they don''t claim that it is. (But another reviewer does).

I have this unit now HM Digital Pocket Size TDS Meter TDS-4 Water Quality Tester and it works great. I''ve had great luck with HM meters. Spend a few more bucks and get the real thing.

Straight out of the box, I tested my municipal tap water, the same water run through a PUR 3-Stage Vertical Faucet Mount Chrome FM-3700B (an activated carbon filter with some additional filtration), and the same water again run through an RO system. The total dissolved solids in the tap water came in at 150 ppm, the extreme low end of typical tap water range; I believe this, as the water feels very much like softened water when you''re rinsing off soap while showering. The PUR filter water came out at a believable 108 ppm, and the RO water at 20 ppm.

It''s quite simple to use, although users should heed the caution not to lower the unit further than the water sensor tips, as the rest of the unit is not waterproof.

The replacement was easily accomplished. The water quality does for some reason taste a little better than the original filter that came with the unit, but this could all be in my head. The quality of water is still better than ordinary tap, and with a small fridge we cannot sacrifice space with a large filter pitcher. Was looking at filtering systems but being in a rental options are limited. Sticking with this faucet attachment filter for the time being.

get replaced every third brushing of the ceramic candles. Our monthly consumption

for 2 people is about 1500 gallons. Yes, you read that right. All our wash done in town. ]

Brushing filter elements with a scotch-brite pad

will renew the candles by removing a tiny layer of ceramic. Having

done this dozens of times before I got my pre-filtration sorted

out, I estimate these candles should last for about 50 cleaning

cycles before they wear thru. This equates to a 10-50 year life-cycle(!)

Cleaning is facilitated by removing candles from the cartridge adapter,

then stroking them lightly with the scotch-bright wrapped around the

candle.

[ UPDATE 2012 Oct. 20: A year+ of service, & the candles have lost about a quarter of their active

ceramic material, scrubbed away by periodic cleaning. For catchment filtration,

I expect service life around 4-5 years. Of course, you''ll probably break a candle

or two with all the handling required over that period for brushing off the

sediment. Probably should have spares. ]

It should be noted that these six candles are not the 7 inch

Sterasyl, nor the 9", nor the 10". I don''t know the exact measurements

off hand, but the diameter is smaller than anything else Doulton produces,

so I have to conclude these are a special size produced just for the

RIO product. The BPT (British Pipe Thread) nipple is standard to all

the other Doulton candle products. You could use these as a replacement

for many of the counter-top carafes, and you would be dollars ahead, with $

at about half of any other offer. The pipe nipple length is about 3/4 inch,

with rubber o-ring included. No wing-nut is included or necessary for the RIO.

Another point I should make is that the pressure drop across this

unit is 15psid clean, 30psid when dirty. If you have low water pressure,

or a weak jet-pump, you might want to consider upgrade to a

positive-displacement pump (Dankoff slow pump), multi-stage deep well

style centrifugal submersible, or chose another filtration solution

(OR, place 3 sets of these in parallel.) Another note, these will

flow up to 6gpm. Most Matrikx filters flow well at 2-3 times their rated

flows, just make sure to check the pdf specs to make sure you''re not

over-doing it. Higher flows on Matrikx filters may also require parallel

gang arraignment, or a larger 4.5x10/4.5x20 filters.

6-pack Doulton "candle" element, what''s not to like? The only reason it

does not get five stars is because nowhere does Doulton or it''s resellers

inform the consumer of the imperative need for pre-filtration.

Without adequate PRE-filtration, the RIO is an impractical solution due

to premature clogging, necessitating excessive maintenance (i.e. "brushing.")

[ UPDATE 2012 Oct. 20: If your water source is very low in turbidity,

you might find pre-filtration unnecessary, but I would still recommend pre-filtering

all water BEFORE it gets passed thru the RIO. ]

After evaluating dozens of filters from several popular manufacturers,

I have found only ONE that HONESTLY details the performance of their filter products,

and that one stellar shining star of filter providers is the one, the only, MATRIKX.

Their filters do what they say, and do it better than many/most of the name brand

filter manufactures. Watts, GE, Pentek, etc. are a joke. GAC filters, by any mfg, are

useless. Filters from Wallmart and Home Depott are lame; Micron ratings and service

life estimates are a lie. It is possible to use Matrikx filters and forgo the RIO

altogether, but their filters do not have silver antimicrobial matrix, thus, no

resistance bacterial grow-thru.

This is the best price I''ve seen for this item. Filter holder module not included.

[ UPDATE 2012 Oct. 20: The price has dropped again. At the time of update, the price of $114

is one-third of the asking price at introduction. This is a good deal for the filter candles

and the black-plastic caddy that holds them together as a unit. If you need the 10 inch Big Blue Filter Housing,

(seriously, that''s what it''s called in the industry) please do yourself a favor and shop around.

Should be no more than half the price currently asked for the 6-candle RIO package. ]

Been using these filters for a few years now, both as primary whole house and as filters after a slow sand filter. They''ve always done a good job keeping the muck out. Each test (monthly) shows no bacteria, but it must be said that the last year+ the primary filter is the slow sand, which removes anything living.

These are good filters, and having this filter in-line provides us with a bit more peace of mind. Recommended.

Iron Out Toilet Bowl Cleaner (Twin Pack)

Iron Out Toilet Bowl CleanerWe have very hard water with a lot of iron in it. This product works the best of anything I''ve tried. Our tanks were completely stained orange and now they are white. I couldn''t even get it off with bleach before. I''m not sure what the other reviewers expected but this does exactly what it''s supposed to do. It is not bleach, it will not clean like bleach. You''ll still have to keep your bowl clean with other products. The stuff that shows up in the bowl is from other "germs", not from iron. This is only for removing the rusty stains. That''s what I needed and it works. Trust me.

I''m dissapointed in this product. The other products that I''ve used from this company have been wonderful but this one doesn''t do the job it claims it will do.

Was a little noisey at the begining, tolerable though. But after 2 or 3 weeks it started increasing in loudness and it''s a high pitched whine. Ended up removing it because of the noise.

Also, the colors for cold and warm seem backwards. It goes Green, blue then red according to temps. First thing I think of for cold water is blue and hot is red. green is typically normal/ok.

Cheap flimsy plastic, oversize threads. I requested RA within minutes! The one I did get to go on was hardly even noticeable. Not worth the money at all!!!

Want 3 Colors Discoloration LED Light Temperature Control Sensor Discount?

I use very hot water when I wash my hands and my wife is always caught off-guard by the temperature when she uses the faucet. I thought this might be a fun and useful little solution. While the light does work, there is a long delay in color change after temperature change (about 10 seconds). I have also only seen the red color twice despite using very hot water often. Instead, we seem to only have blue for cold and green for everything else (warm, hot, and scalding hot). Looking at these reviews, it seems that quality of this product varies greatly between individual units and ours was not one of the best examples.

I think it will be used in our daughters'' bathroom where they can at least see the pretty green and blue lights (if not red).

Pros:

-Neat looking

Cons:

-Not really very sensitive to temperature changes (not enough to be truly useful)

-Our unit does not produce red light with regularity

also.......i noticed that someone mentioned that the temperature gauge is off so that was the 1st thing i checked and mine work perfectly. red=HOT, green=LUKEWARM, blue=cold

Crystal Quest CQE-CT-00142 Countertop Reverse Osmosis Water Filter System
  • Portable 3-stage Reverse Osmosis System provides safe, pure high quality drinking water with capacity of up to 50-Gallon per day It is great for homes, apartments, office, recreational vehicles, motels, and laboratory use
  • Reduces silt, sediment, cyst (Giardia, Cryptosporidium), sand, rust, dirt, and other un-dissolved matter
  • Heavy metals such as lead, mercury, copper, nickel, chromium, cadmium, aluminum, and other dissolved metals are removed from the water by the electrochemical process They are attracted to the surface of the media, much like a magnet

Having grown tired of the bottled water scene; the expense, the drain on the environment from shipping and all the plastic containers, I was looking for a high quality product that was simple to setup. I also wanted something that I could take with me on extended trips to guarantee I always have high quality pure water available.

This product has thus far fit the bill. Reverse-osmosis is considered one of the best filtration systems available, filtering many more particles than charcoal, as well as many heavy metals and other elements frequently found in municipal water systems. While, I haven''t used it anywhere other than my apartment, it was very easy to install and fits all of my current needs.

The only issue I have is that the dispenser spout attaches directly to the unit, making it difficult to store or mount out of the sight. However, it is considered a portable unit, and I''m sure that could be remedied by a trip to your local hardware store.

I ordered this filter, which has no tank, knowing the water flow would be painfully slow, and that my house had to have enough water pressure (55 psi) to make it work. Other than the initial defective unit everything has worked out fine. It cleans up my water from 160''s PPM to 20''s PPM.

Words of caution: the installation diagram provided with each filter doesn''t match the actual installation. And the two diagrams I have seen are also different. Then there''s a third version from Crystal Quest''s web site. Add to the actual installation of my working unit, which is different from all those three diagrams, I think Crystal Quest has a Texas size confusion in the making.

The description says to allow 3-4 days for additional processing but I received mine right away, without delay. ymmv

Installation is simple. Attach the diverter and tubing to your faucet and turn on.

However, mine wasn''t ''tubed'' properly. An email to tech support (which operates M-F, 9-5 est) gave me the tech support phone number which isn''t located anywhere else (including their website). I talked to their tech Jason who walked me through the connections. They weren''t connected properly, but something else was wrong too. Jason offered to call me back with some additional help but I got to reading and playing around and got it to work on my own.

Water trickles out of the spigot now, which is what I expected with only 2gal/min flow. The first gallons are coming out mid to low 20ppm on the TDS meter and takes about 20-30 minutes per gallon. What used to come out of the faucet was 230-245ppm water and tasted awful. This water is clean and tastes great!

The waste water comes out ~350ppm, nice to see it doing its job.

In spite of my problems I''d recommend this unit, assuming you have decent pressure. It''s inexpensive, and is relatively good at what it does. I''m pretty happy.

Pure Guardian H4500 144 Hour Ultrasonic Humidifier Save 42% Off

Pure Guardian H4500 144 Hour Ultrasonic HumidifierWhen I first moved to the high mountains (8400'') of Colorado, I used a wick-type humidifier constantly. I also had a nasty little cough that stayed with me for 18 months. Finally, I took my doctor''s advice and junked the humidifier. End of cough, due to things growing in the unit. I have been shopping for humidifiers again for a while, and found them all to be lacking severely. Either they were the same type of filter construction that had caused my illness, or they were cheaply made, or low-capacity. This unit may have a tippy storage tank when turned upside-down to fill, but it is well made. The screw-on cap for the reservoir is sturdy and has a rubber gasket. There are carrying handles on the top and bottom of the water container to make it easy to manage, and it puts out a LOT of humidity. At 2/3 setting, it ran the humidity in my bedroom from 22 to 35% the first night, all while being completely silent. The (silent) piezo-electric ultrasonic element is the same as is used in the tweeters of my big PA speakers, and these are practically indestructible if kept clean. The huge water reservoir does mean that it is big, and the styling is retro, which is OK, I guess. More expensive units from the same manufacturer have useless and noisy digital features with the same overall construction. Overall, a solid five.

Update on 22Mar2012: This thing is great. The silver (yes, they impregnate the plastic with silver) added to the water chamber means that there is virtually no scum build-up inside. I did clean it once in the time I have had it. The little metal diaphragm of the ultrasonic element is brass not silver, so I do wipe that off every now and then, but this thing is fantastic. I always run filtered water in it. If you don''t, you are either leaving the unfiltered residue in the tank, or blowing it out into your room! Give your sinuses, musical instruments and wood furniture a nice gift.

I bought this humidifier because it seemed perfect:

1, Large capacity 2 gallons or so lasts about 24 hours and isn''t too heavy to re-fill

2, Cool mist OR warm mist capability I prefer warm mist, but the heating elements usually take too much cleaning

3, Virtually silent operation no loud fans, just the occasional bubble from the reservoir

4, Nice design

5, Great reviews durability and performance were both praised

6, Germ prevention not sure this is strictly necessary with a warm mist humidifier (boiling water, etc), but apparently a nice to have for cold mist humidifiers.

Believing this justified the cost, which is 2.5 times more than any other humidifier I''ve ever bought, I bought one. It worked pretty well for just less than 2 weeks. Then there was a loud popping noise and now it doesn''t work anymore.

I will bother to exchange it for a new one, but I won''t be buying any others from this maker. At the price, I would expect much greater durability (even the forty dollar humidifiers last a couple of years or so) and there should be an electronic humidistat so that you can regulate the humidity. This model only has a dial that seems to govern output. The model with a humidistat is twice the price (daylight robbery, instead of this one, which is merely standard burglary).

I''m upset with this product, but I''m even more upset with humidifier manufacturers in general. I know water and electronics don''t mix, but what I''m discovering is that the only genuinely bulletproof humidifiers on the market are the buckets of water with fans ("evaporative"). Really?? That''s state of the art for you guys? Can you at least hook up with Dyson and make the fans quieter?

--UPDATE--

I''ve now got a replacement and I''ve noticed a couple of differences: Firstly, the dial on the new machine does much more to regulate the amount of visible mist than the dial on my original machine. Second, the tank now lasts for at least three days instead of one or less. I already knew the original machine was faulty (it broke within 2 weeks), but based on this new information it looks like it was running at maximum, regardless of what the dial was set to. This leaves me with two important takeaways:

1, If you just bought the machine and want to know whether it''s working properly, you should see a substantial change when you turn the dial, from almost no mist to lots.

2, Can the machine handle being left on maximum output continuously? I don''t know, and after last time, I dare not risk it.

--UPDATE II: The sequel--

Well, the second unit that I received lasted the season and is now in storage, clean and dry. Cleaning is simpler than some of the humidifiers I''ve had in the past. There are no exposed tea-kettle elements, so it''s just a case of washing in a weak vinegar solution. If it doesn''t successfully start up again next season, I''ll update this again. I will re-iterate that this humidifier is expensive. I expected it to work first time and it didn''t. However, if it had I would have been as happy with this device as everyone else seems to be, so feel free to take my star rating with a grain of salt.

By the way, to partially address the comment I''ve had so far, this review only represents an n of 2 (not 1, smartypants). I think it''s useful to tot up the star scores from all the reviews to get a reasonable proxy for the failure rate. For instance, if you do this for Samsung LCD televisions you get a 10% failure rate for a sample size that''s approaching 1000. That compares pretty unfavorably with the other major marques like Sony and Sharp... but is borne out by what I''ve heard from sales people at electronic retail stores (ie, quasi-independent experts). Anyway, for this humidifier it''s unclear because of the small sample size. At the time of writing, the failure rate looked like it was hovering around 20%, which doesn''t sound great until you compare that to the failure rates of other humidifiers!

Bottom line: if I need another humidifier, this is my benchmark and I''d definitely consider buying it again ... from a store with a great return policy.

--UPDATE III: Comparison with SPT SU-4010--

I recently purchased the SPT SU-4010 from Amazon, which is another highly rated cold/warm mist humidifier. I like it for many of the same reasons that I now love the Germ Guardian. The chief difference is the SPT model is quieter (virtually silent) but puts out less mist over the same time period and has a smaller tank. If your [bedroom] is under 500 square feet and you need a silent humidifier, I''d recommend the SPT SU-4010. The ion exchange filter in that model even minimizes the "glugging" that is often the loudest noise from these type of humidifiers. If you have a larger room, or are aiming to maximize the volume of water you can get into the air over a given time, I still recommend the Germ Guardian. Note that I cannot yet speak to the reliability of the SPT SU-4010, but Consumer Reports rated it very highly. Please refer to my review of that model on this website if you''d like to progress updates for that model.

--UPDATE IV: Just bought another--

Saw a refurbished version of this Germ Guardian on an Amazon-affiliated website for half the price of a big warehouse store and bought it. Everything seems fine, although I''ve noticed a slightly disturbing difference in output from this one, which is now the third one of these I''ve owned. This one has to be cranked much higher to achieve the same mist in identical conditions. That could be because it''s refurbished or it could be because there is a great deal of variability... Either way, something to bear in mind. I''m putting both away for the summer now so there won''t be any more updates until next winter. I did a quick clean with a dilute solution of standard household vinegar and that should leave these ready to go then.

This is our second humidifier we''ve purchased from this manufacturer. We originally bought the one with the alarm clock, which is a great product and now we decided to buy this one. It is much more powerful & keeps our house very comfortable. (the original one we bought is in our bedroom). It''s definitely a benefit that you don''t have to constantly buy new filters.

As reported in other reviews, this humidifier will leave a while film if the water used is not filtered or distilled. This film is not as benign as described in some other reviews (explanation below). If I had easy and/or inexpensive access to filtered water I would give this product 5 stars it works great, virtully noiseless as advertized, and virtually maintenance free with there being no filters to replace.

I''ve got one at home and one at the office. The tap water I have access to at work is treated (clorine), but not softened, and it''s likley rather hard considering all of the minerals in the water here. After a few days running in the office the white film appeared on nearly every dark surface in the room (especially computer keyboard, printer, phone). Then my printer in my office started malfunctioning, then our copier. The copier repairman discovered the white film inside the copier, fouling up sensors and causing malfunction. He told us we''d have to stop using the humidifier or it would continue to cause problems. I now know why I had to just spend $400 on a new office printer as well. This dust that is emitted from the humidifier can float through the tiniest of cracks and holes and can deposit on nooks and crannies everywhere plenty of places you can''t reach with a dust rag, much less a Q-tip. Pressurized air dusting spray does not seem to remove the dust effectively either.

I''ve got another at my home, 35 miles away, where our tap water is well water, which is untreated hard water. Here I''ve only noticed a small bit of the white film, on only a few of the darkest, shiniest surfaces. What appears on this humidifier that does not appear in the humidifier in the office, however, is a pinkish amber colored slime mold / mildew on the bottom side of the reservior (visible only when you refill the reservoir). This is probably becasue this water is not treated with clorine, and this part of the humidifier is creating a perfect breeding ground for bacterias, mold, mildew, etc. I''m not sure exactly what this slimy substance is, or if it''s presence in the humidifier raises any health concerns. So I''m going to deduce that my water at home has less minerals in it that can turn into this white dust. I''m not sure if clorine in city water could also cause this white dust as well.

The bottom line is, if your water is perfect, this humidifier is close to perfect. If your water is not perfect, you may have some serious problems with this unit, and I would not reccomend it. I would strongly warn anybody against using this in a room with electronic devices if they are not totally sure their water is filtered properly.

So we got this the winter/ fall of 2010 at our local wholesale club. We used it all winter. While it provided great relief from the winter woes, after a month or so, we realized the issues with this little guy. It''s really more difficult to clean than it should be. More than any humidifier should be in fact. Filling it is a whole other headache.

The blue part is the water container. It''s awkward to fill and then carry. Loading it on the base, is in my opinion, backwards. You carry it one way, but must rotate the entire filled jug, which is quite heavy, 180 degrees in order to get it on the base properly. Note: I''m a righty, maybe lefties have an easier time with it.

Now if that wasn''t annoying enough, the cleaning is an almost pointless venture. You take off the blue container, which is probably empty by now, but might not be. So, you unscrew the ''cap'' to the water container and begin to pour water out. You get to the very last drops and realize and good 1/4 cup will not exit the container. I''ve stood there shaking the bejesus out of this thing and still can''t get it out! The issue with this: the device will mold and from what I saw, allow for growth of the orange bacteria, staph I believe. While I''m not worried, usually an issue where we live (it''s really humid), so I just clean it really well with soap and water. While that works for the base, it doesn''t work as well for the water container. You can load up some soap and shake it around, but even after rinsing I''ve found it''s almost impossible, without outside assistance, to remove all the water. (which just allows for more growth of nasty yuckiness, plus a headache when putting away to store for the warmer seasons).

So, I have found one solution to solve both problems, cleaning the blue container and getting rid of all water to allow it to fully dry. (FYI the best way to ensure all bacteria has stopped growing, ensure completely dry before reuse) I dump in about 1 cup rubbing alcohol, replace the cap and shake it, ''bejesus'' style, out of it. After about 15 seconds, I unscrew the cap and shake as hard as I can again to really get as much out as possible then leave it to dry out with the hole upwards. Not down, as would seem obvious with most things, this will not dry out with the hole down. (5 days later and that 1/4 cup still wasn''t gone with hole down). I really recommend just putting it in front of a fan or small heater (very low heat, it''s plastic and WILL MELT) blowing into the hole. That seems to work faster.

Lastly, but really not a function issue, just annoying, the BLUE LIGHT on the front is an always on thing. You can turn on a ''nightlite'' but really with as bright as this things ''on'' light is, you won''t need it. Probably annoying for light sleepers. I am, but use an eye mask at night...

Would I buy this one again? Probably not. Not sure if I''d buy from this company again. I''ll read Amazon reviews before I buy any other humidifiers.

I have had this shower filter for two years and now it is destined for a landfill. It looks as thought it is chrome but the connector piece is plastic and so is the body that houses the filter. This shower head is very fragile and broke twice on me. Once while adjusting the angle of the shower head the connector piece snapped in two and the second when attempting to change the filter the body of the shower head cracked. It is a shame that the durability of the product is so poor because it is an effective filter.

I bought this so I could use organic bath products with our hard well water. I can now use organics without that sticky residue left on my skin. Super easy to install. Love the three levels of spray each one very different. We don''t have enough water pressure for a vigorous massage on that spray setting, but it is nice and relaxing. Middle setting is great for rinsing out hair. The height and direction (pivot) options are great for getting out of the spray while soaping or shaving. Hose is long enough to reach across entire bathtub. Cartridges are easy to replace. I did read that it was fragile, so I have been careful with it.
