I am satisfied with the purchase of the newest HT Phase Bunn Home Brewer.

CONS: You can''t be in a hurry with this maker. Ours takes a full 12 minutes starting with room temperature water. The carafe only holds 8 cups. This maker is very noisy. It boils, hisses and jiggles while brewing. Water drips out of the seams of the top if it is filled to the 8 cup level while it is heating. I tested the coffee temperature immediately after brewing by pouring coffee directly in a ceramic mug. The temperature was 172F. I was a bit surprised that it was not hotter than that if it truly brews around 200F+. I will have to due further testing and watch some control factors more closely. I hope that it registers a bit higher than that.

PROS: The automatic start helps to make up for the time of brewing if you simply can''t wait the 12 minutes for the brew cycle to begin. We prefer to grind our coffee just prior to brewing but it is nice to have the option! The thermal carafe prevents over heated, bitter coffee. I tested the coffee temperature directly after brewing and it was 172F. I tested a cup at exactly two hours later and it read 160F. I give the thermal carafe a nice hot pre-rinse and it holds it''s heat for a full two hours. I love the stainless steel brew basket. Our brew basket from our last coffee maker was plastic. It blistered causing me to have concerns about plastic leaching into our coffee. No worries about that with the Phase Brew.

Good Design

The design of this brewer was just what I was looking for: 8 cups, insulated carafe, reputable brand, full temperature (200 degrees F) brewing, and no "always-on" heating tank. After a frustrating and rather wasteful one-month break-in period, it''s operating as I originally hoped. If it weren''t for that problem, I''d give it 5 stars.

Good Support

I bought the Bunn Phase Brew HT despite problems reported by others because, apart from the Technivorm, there''s nothing else quite like it, and I had read the Bunn support is very solid. This turned out to be true.

Problem with Odor, Initially

The biggest problem was a nasty plastic smell and taste originating from the plastic tank. This was especially noticeable during the heating cycle. Eventually I ran about 20 pots of water through the thing over about three weeks, including two cleanings with vinegar and even a couple with hot bicarbonate of soda solution. At one point I called Bunn support, which was a reassuring experience. They offered to replace the brewer, no problem, but they said the smell would go away in a couple of weeks. I hung on the the brewer I had, and sure enough, in a few weeks it was making great coffee. Whether it was the passage of time that did the trick or the endless flushes with water, etc., I don''t know.

Not Wasteful of Energy

I always liked the Bunn brewers for their solid build, but I didn''t want to heat water in a reserve tank all the time, so the Phase Brew seems like a good answer.

Correct Water Temperature

The water temperature coming out of the spray emitter is about 204 degrees F, and the coffee in the pot at about 185 degrees (measured with a Fluke thermal probe). (I pre-warm the pot with hot tap water, but I don''t boil it or anything.)

Pot Stays Hot for 2 3 Hours

How hot is hot enough depends on who''s drinking the coffee, and whether they take cream (I don''t). For me, the coffee is pleasingly hot for a couple of hours; hot enough for three hours or so, and a little on the cool side after that, but still drinkable. Realistically, it''s empty before then.

The Carafe Doesn''t Drip (Much)

The carafe pours nicely until the last half cup or so. Then it takes some practice not to have it drip. I just remove the top and pour the last few ounces out.

Hot Plate Only Stays on for a Short While

Some have said that the hot plate under the pot stays on, but it seems to turn off shortly after brewing. This is good because the pot is insulated and hot plates ruin coffee.

Good Spray Head

I had read that some people had problems with the shower head emitter dribbling rather than distributing evenly in all directions. That''s not a problem with mine -the spray pattern is just right. The shower head is removable for cleaning.

The Clock Works

I haven''t had any problem with the electronics, but I don''t use the pre-set timer to start the brewing so I can''t say anything about that.

Noise isn''t a Problem for Me

The boiling water noise during warm up is about average for a drip coffee maker, and a bit louder than normal for the final couple of minutes while the water is dispensed into the coffee, but it doesn''t bother me. In fact the change in the rumble serves as a final warning that the pot needs to be in place.

Brewing Time is Fine

Brewing takes about 10 minutes. Unless you stare at the machine the whole time, it''s not noticeable. Personally, I pour in the water and hit the start button, then I grind some coffee and pre-heat the pot during the initial heating phase (when no water is coming out), so by the time I''m ready, the remaining brew time is maybe six minutes.

Filters Are Unusual, But Not Hard to Find

Bunn filters are taller than most, because it dumps the water into the coffee quickly, flooding the funnel and wetting the grounds evenly. Short filters might overflow. However, Lowes, Fry''s, and others stock them, and a pack of 1000 is only about $11 (plus shipping) from Bunn.

The Coffee is Really Good

With the hotter temperature of the Bunn, I found that using a medium grind produced smoother results than the fine grind I had previously used to get flavor with my aging Braun coffee maker. My expectation that I could save 20% of my rising coffee bill by switching from a 10-cup to an 8-cup brewer hasn''t been fulfilled though, because the coffee is so good that I often have to have another half-pot later (but at least it''s nice and fresh).

I was excited to see that Bunn had a new brew technique and was in the market to replace my old Mr. Coffee unit. I preordered the Bunn HT and got it on December 30, 2010. Initially, I thought that the Bunn HT made a good cup of coffee and was easy on the eyes, easy for set up, and easy for clean up. However, on January 17, 2011, my coffee maker quit heating water and I did not get my morning coffee which upset everyone in the household! I contacted Bunn and they sent me out a new unit and asked me to ship the broken one back to them. In 2 days, I received the new unit and peace was restored to the family.

Then, on February 1, the same problem occured no heating of the water!! I contacted Bunn and told them of my unhappiness and asked if they were experiencing a rash of failures. They said that they had only had a few but for one person to have 2 failures in month is completely unacceptable!

Although I like the unit, I could not recommend this to anyone as long as it continues to go belly-up in such a short amount of time. I could understand one failure, but two??????????? BTW I use filtered water for the coffee maker so it shouldn''t need cleaning in less than 2 weeks.

Not impressed with the reliability and durability of the product.

UPDATE-March 26, 2011!!

Woke up this morning after a terrible nights rest and pressed the button on my 2nd replacement machine and ............ nothing!! It indicated that it was heating the water but no heat, no gurgling, no nothing! This is the third failure that I have had with the Bunn HT Brewer and I am at my wits (what''s left of them) end. I am struggling to believe that a company like Bunn can''t build a reliable machine. Maybe I''ll just get a stove top percolator!

I wish I could kiss the people who made this coffee maker. Where do I start? Maybe with my supposedly nice Cuisinart story. Last Christmas I received a Cuisinart coffee maker with a thermal carafe. The thing was a menace from the start. The lid never closed all the way, the entire thing was plastic except for the carafe, which almost immediately started to seep water between it''s walls even though it had never been near a dishwasher or submerged in water. Plus, it always overflowed unless we pressed slow brew. To make it more annoying it screeched out five ear-shattering beeps when it was done brewing that woke us up from downstairs even with our door closed. Who needs an alarm? Not us!

After all this I was left thinking big companies don''t care about their end product as long as they sold a bazillion. By the end of this year the crappy thing was more than toast.

Now THIS coffee maker is amazing!! Bunn seems like they want to design and build something of quality. Really? Do companies still do this? First, the coffee maker is tall, nearly as tall as my stand mixer so make sure you have room. The reason is because there''s a reservoir on top for water to boil to an exact temperature before spraying down on the coffee. And the coffee filter is made of stainless steal, not plastic! I about jumped for joy when I saw that. They also fixed the too flat pour spouts everyone complained about in previous years. It has a nice dip now so coffee doesn''t splash out. Does that mean a company actually takes suggestions? (Sorry I''m feeling a bit cynical after my Cuisinart experience.)

This Bunn is solid, seriously. It''s a well-built machine that looks great in my kitchen. And the coffee? Fantastic! There is only one small thing it doesn''t have. A built in water filter. We have very hard water here, but it''s not a big deal for me to filter the water beforehand. Oh, I nearly forgot. No ear piercing beeps! In fact, no beeps at all. Just a peaceful LED sensor that turns off when my coffee is done.

Bunn you earned yourself a new loyal customer. Thank-you!

Update 16 Feb 2011: Coffee maker still looks brand new and works just as well as the day I bought it. Water is still heating properly. I do have to turn the pot upside down to get the last of the coffee out, but it doesn''t leak or drip when I do. It''s as if it was designed to be able to be tipped that way. Still the best coffee maker I''ve ever owned.

Update 01 July 2011: I found when I fill the water reservoir above the black line the water can''t boil and just leaks out cold. So now I take care to fill the water holder to just under that 8 cup line.

I had a smaller filter on my house which is on a water well. My well has a fair amount of sand and rust and with the smaller filter and I was having to change the filter a lot. It was a pain. I figured that if I had a larger filter, the filter change intervals would be longer and life would be better.

I ended up buying this. The big blue filter media is about 4x the mass of my older filter, which means the filter could theoretically last 4x as long. I haven''t had to change my filter yet so I can''t say with certainty if this is true, but I don''t see why it wouldn''t be.

It was easy to plumb this into my water supply. I have PVC pipes and just turned off my pump and cut my old PVC pipes out and put in new. Warning: this housing uses 1" PVC pipes. Yes, I know it says it in the specs but make sure you know what size your pipes are. Mine were 3/4" and I wasn''t aware of that. Fixed it with some 1" to 3/4" PVC adapters.

Why did I only give it four stars? Well, this filter housing uses the standard 4x10" filter size. That''s good. Then I found out they make 4x20" filters and housings. You can buy a new bottom (the part that screws on) and the longer filters and then you''ll have double the filter. If I had known that, I would have gone that route. I can''t just change the bottom on mine because the way I mounted it and ran my PVC pipes, there isn''t room for the extra 10" below it. If I had known, I would have mounted it higher and routed the pipes differently just in case I wanted the longer filters.

Also, there is a metal bracket made by Culligan that is great for mounting this. Amazon sells it for about $15. Worth it.

I''ve been using this for about a year and a half and it works fine. I''m using the Culligan RFC-BBS Level 4 Heavy Duty Sediment Replacement Cartridge which I may change to a lesser model since my problem is the deep well (365'') picking up a little sand and clogging my water softener and faucets after a few months and this product fixes that problem. I change the filter about every 3 months. Over all I''m very satisfied with the filter and despite the high prices of the filter cartridges I still rate this as a 5.

NOTE: All my pipes are copper so I did put a wire jumper across the filter housing to maintain grounding throughout the house. The house is grounded using a steel rod driven about 18'' deep. Other than the safety issue a lack of a good ground can cause audio humming or other interference.

Installation isn''t easy. Would prefer metal screw holes and would have liked a bypass valve. However, once installed, it works as advertised. Built of heavy plastic, seems sturdy enough. Needs support either by the extra bracket or something under it -with spacing to allow filter change.

Would have like to had the physical measurements before purchase.

Good value. I would recommend it to others.

The only challenge was having to get the inlet and outlet fittings to reduce the size from one inch to 3/4 inch. Since I was doing a replacement, I had to cut the copper supply line for the existing filter, but made the installation easier by using a new new gator grip valve which is available at Home Depot or Lowes. I love it.

I have to confess I''ve never used this in the oven. I did use it on some shower stall walls. They were really really thickly soap scummed. So bad that I was actually using a wood chisel to scrape off the first layer. None of the chemicals I had on hand made much of a dent and I was fresh out of "Top Job" and couldn''t find it anymore. A bit of web searching revealed that maybe, just maybe, this stuff would do the job.

It did! It did a wonderful job! I used 2.5 cans of the stuff, but that shower is clean and it didn''t take much effort at all. Spray, wait, rinse-rinse-rinse. Some quick work with the scrub brush got the remaining bits off easy-off plus dissolved soap to go away. The wall surface itself looks to be either refinished tile or (more likely) tile painted with some pretty good paint.

But be warned... This stuff isn''t completely fume free. Using so much oven cleaner in a smallish space proves that. Be sure to keep the area well ventilated and/or use a respirator.

Also, web research indicates that the stronger easy-off with the yellow cap is a bit too aggressive for shower stalls especially those fiberglass ones.

As of recently, I am extremely sensitive to smells, perfumes, and scents. Going down the laundry aisle I instantly get a headache, same with the Glade bathroom spray aisle. I have to be very careful what I buy for bath and cleaning products. When it came time to clean my 7 year old oven (I kinda let it go inside), I sought out a oven product that wouldn''t make me instantly get a headache or have difficultly breathing (I''m talking to you Mr. Clean and Fantastik!) After making Thanksgiving turkey, I splattered a bit more than I realized. After 2 hours of waiting, the cleaner removed about 95% of it. I make sure to wipe with a clean damp cloth to remove residue.

My only concern is: when you heat up the oven after the first clean, some of the areas that you sprayed/wiped turn white and release a smell, even though I thoroughly wiped it. That confuses me.

Between this and Woolite''s Heavy Traffic Carpet cleaner my house looks like I know how to keep it clean when realyl we destroy it daily and spray this fixes on hahahahaha!! When greasy splatters show up behind the stove, or land on the floor, cabinets, inside the fridge sticky messes, or sometimes on the sink area! All solved quick with Easy Off. I used it in an oven which is full of grease and stains that I didn''t take care for almost 3 years. Some of the grease is really tough to get rid of, which seems to be burned in. I could not get them off by simply brushing the oven with dish cleaners nor bathroom cleaners.

I applied the Easy-Off and waited about 2 hours. 70% of the grease and stains can be easily wiped off by damped paper towel other than the places seems to be burned in.

For the part that did not work out, I applied it again and waited over night. This time almost 99% of the stains and grease can be wiped off.

On the downside, the product does have some smell and not 100% fume free. I would recommend turning on your venting system in the kitchen while applying it and also openning the windows in the surround area.

These are great filters for on-counter and under-counter 10" fitlering systems. The kx matrikx 02-250-125-975 is a NSF certified filter. It reduces the TDS in my tap water, from 65ppm to 14ppm.

I had to buy a new American Plumber cap-sump and used this filter for the first time with an all-new housing but the same model and type of housing I''d been using for 15 years. I previously bought inexpensive generic carbon filters. There is definitely a difference with the KX Matrikx. Water tastes better, also has a lighter, cleaner smell when you run cold water for a while in the sink. Here in Huntington, WV, we have VERY hard water, and unfiltered it sometimes tastes and smells a little strange; this is okay for laundry and bathing, but I''ve been looking for an inexpensive way to optimize my drinking water. Be very careful not to tilt unit when transporting it if tilted it MUST sit for at least two hours before starting it. This unit has worked well continuously for two weeks. I put it on a sill-height table so that the water would drain well and the exhaust tube would be straight. My only complaints are:

1. The fan never goes off no matter what setting it is on (the compressor does go off, but not the fan).

2. When cooling, a lot of heat is generated in the exhaust hose an insulation sleeve would be nice.

3. The drain tube is way too short.

The machine was fairly easy to set up, and it does cool the room reasonably well, but I was expecting a heat pump....not so----according to the documentation received with the machine, there is an auxiliary heater, NOT a heat pump. We will see how well this heater works this winter. One other thing....the fan runs continuously, it does not shut off when the compressor kicks off, and it is fairly noisy.

My ancient apartment has almost no ventilation throughout and is always ten to fifteen degrees hotter than outside. Those crazy summer heatwaves sometimes get my room into the high 90s and as high as 105-110! It is unbearable. I could no longer take the sleepless nights in the heat and picked up one of these units. I had to "ghetto rig" the exhaust hose up to the crank out style window using a ton of cardboard and duct tape. I have it sitting on a metal computer desk that is level with the window sill.

Pros:

-Will drop the temp of the room around ten-fifteen degrees and keep it there. While not as great a window mounted unit, I''ll gladly take 85 degrees over 95. The best performance I''ve seen so far is walking into my room @ 85 degrees and eventually getting it down to 70 (took 6 hours of continuous use).

-Remote.

-Timer so you don''t end up running it all night.

-Not as loud as I was expecting it.

Cons:

-Produces a ton of water via the drain. It took no time to fill up a five gallon bucket.

-Air blows straight up. I had to rig a piece of cardboard to deflect the cold air into the rest of the room instead of straight into the ceiling and back towards the hot exhaust tube.

-The exhaust hose always comes loose from the unit

-Exhaust hose is not as flexible as I was hoping.

A quick tip I''d like to provide is sealing up all the doors and windows leading into the room you have the unit working in. The edges around my door have huge gaps that let in tons of hot air from the rest of the apartment. Some foam sealant tape and a door sweep helped with those problems and contribute to keeping the room cool.

This unit has kept my kitchen down to 77 with its thermostat set on 72 during the summer''s first 90-plus days here. Not bad, since I knew I was buying a portable (and therefore less efficient) A/C instead of a window or through-the-wall unit.

The salesman told me it had an internal bucket to collect the water, and that it would shut off automatically when full. He said it didn''t have automatic evaporation of the moisture created by cooling and dehumidifying, which is common in modern portable A/C units, but I was fine with having an internal bucket and automatic shutoff. Just like the various dehumidifiers I''ve owned. However, after I''d paid a separate contractor to bring this very heavy unit to my home (the appliance store considered it "cash and carry" and therefore ineligible for their usual delivery service), I found out that it has no internal bucket. The owner has to attach a garden hose and use an external bucket, which will merrily overflow if the unit is left running with no one at home to empty that bucket as needed. Since the drain hose plug is lower than most windows, putting the hose out the window and letting it drain outside isn''t practical unless the A/C unit can be raised off the floor.

The air exhaust hose does just love to come loose, and duct tape is the answer. Also, you''ll need to either take the whole hose assembly out of the window so you can shut the window against heavy, wind-driven rain; or you''ll need to rig some sort of outside cover for the hose, because that hose leads down into the machine and it''s just begging to funnel rain inside.

Overall this unit meets my needs, but it wouldn''t if I had hoped to leave it running while away from home for long periods of time. I have no idea why Frigidaire thinks an external drip bucket is a great idea, or why they can''t come up with a better air exhaust hose design. From a major brand name, in an expensive machine, I expected better.

I purchased this brewer in December of 2008 and it has worked perfectly every day. Here is the review I wrote on 26 April of 2009 for an older Amazon listing of the same coffee maker:

"I read the reviews about how unreliable this machine was, but I figured that people who are satisfied with their purchases are less likely to write a review than people who have problems. So I took a chance.

My only complaint so far is the difficulty of the start-up procedure. I had to use a baster to force water into the reservoir pump to get it started. I learned this trick from another reviewer on this website. Bunn would do their customers a great service by including a similar tool more suited to the task with each MCP they sell, along with the accompanying instructions. I have used this coffee maker everyday for five months and it has worked perfectly. Yes, it is noisy, but who cares? I finally have a GOOD, HOT cup of coffee in the morning!

While researching coffee makers I went to the Bunn website and discovered a helpful page called "Bunn Coffee Basics" which explained how a good cup of coffee is made. Bunn says that the water temperature during brewing should be between 195 and 205 degrees and that the best flavor comes from the beginning of the brew cycle (brew too cool and too long and you get bitter, acidic coffee). These are two elements of brewing that that drip coffee makers get horribly wrong. Conventional drip brewers never get hot enough, and to make matters worse they take a very long time to brew because they heat their water on the fly. The Bunn MCP pre-heats its water in a stainless steel tank. When I first set-up my MCP I tested the temperature of the water after brewing and it was consistently above 190 degrees (some temperature is lost during the brewing cycle).

I justified the high cost of purchase in two ways:

1. The convenience of brewing at home cannot be overstated. I get my coffee when I want it, the way I want it.

2. Coffee pods cost about 20 to 25 cents each. Starbucks or Dunkin'' Donuts coffee costs a dollar thirty and up, depending on where you live. For me this machine will pay for itself in less than a year."

Nothing has changed about my opinion of this brewer. It makes hot, great tasting coffee fast.

My husband first bought me this pod brewer about 4 or 5 years ago because he had one at his office. After about two years, my machine simply stopped working. It was under warranty so BUNN shipped me a replacement at no cost. The next worked for another year or so, and it also became defective. It started running and wouldn''t stop. I had to unplug it to stop it from running, and then sent it back. They also replaced that one. Now, I have machine #3 in the box ready to send back because it stopped working one morning, would not heat the water or anything. The replacement arrived missing two of the rubber feet off of the bottom so I took them off the one I''m sending back (I was getting desperate for my coffee). I just tried to brew a cup, the water tank is full, and the water droplet light is flashing and the machine will not brew.

How could I have such bad luck with this machine? I only drink one cup of coffee per day, sometimes two.

BUNN has been great with customer service and all the replacements. At this point I have to return a machine and pay $50 for a replacement since there is no longer a warranty. I''m hoping they can give me an entirely different model.

This pod brewer makes a wonderful, strong cup of coffee and I love it. Just so disappointed that they are so repeatedly defective for me. I wonder what some buyers will go through after having their machines for a year or two?????

Bunn replaced my expensive pod brewer with the $99 single pod brewer (plus pay $50). As of today, February 28, 2013, this $99 pod brewer has STOPPED WORKING. I had a cup of coffee in the morning. One in the afternoon. And now this evening, it won''t do a blessed thing. I am researching pod brewers (NOT K CUPS.....don''t want my coffee coming from a plastic cup) to replace BUNN entirely. I don''t feel like buying a new pod brewer every couple years. MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!!

I haven''t used anything different in my Essick Humidifier (which is by far the best humidifier I''ve ever owned -definitely worth the $80 I paid for it), and I think these filters work swell.

To make them last:

-add a cap of liquid bacteria treatment (buy this in a hardware store for cheap) to the base of the humidifier every other week

-soak the filters in warm vinegar water once monthly (they will retain a slight vinegar smell for a day, but that quickly fades)

I typically get 4 months use out of the filters before I replace them. With the effort I put into keeping them clean I likely could use them longer, but the mineral stains make me think they''re dirty.

I haven''t been able to locate these filters in local stores (and trust me when I tell you I''ve searched all over Denver!), so I tend to order in bulk off from Amazon once a year and keep a supply of them in the closet.

The filters were well priced, exactly as advertised, delivered with lightning speed, and made that humidifier work like new. You can''t ask for much more than that!

I recently upgraded to this model from a Krups steam espresso maker and it was probably one of the best decisions I''ve ever made. I can''t believe I did upgrade sooner.

The espresso comes out perfect, just like those at places like Starbucks. My favorite part about this model is the minimum work required for cleaning. It has a bin that collects the used grounds so you don''t have to empty and clean after every cup.

The steam for the milk frother comes out super fast and super hot. It takes less than 30 seconds for me to froth milk. And when you''re done, just rinse the plastic nozzle and you''re set for the next cup.

Now the only downside about this model: it doesn''t store too much water. If you have 2 or more people using this thing every morning, there''s a good chance someone will always have to refill the water in the tank after the machine pumps out a half cup of coffee and blinks its red light. Even then, for the price, it is well worth it and provides great value.

Update 4/7/2010 Still turning out great coffee/espresso with ease after 3 years of service. Must''ve saved me $1000 from morning trips to Starbucks annually.

But then again, I guess I wouldn''t know how good it really is.

Four stars because a) I haven''t had it long enough to give it a 5 and b) I''m taking off one star for the price.

I really like this machine, I was hesitant to get a super automatic because I like the process of making espresso. However, when I need multiple shots each morning for 2 drinks, this is far more practical. I was not interested in the sales associates'' push for Nespresso because I can''t see being tied down to one brand of pod forever, so I went with this. I''ve had it a few weeks, so I will update if I run into any snags, but so far so good.

Prior to this I had a Krups (great while it lasted, actually), and a DeLonghi, and a Breville Ikon that I returned. I was looking at this, a Capresso, and a Gaggia, but the store where I returned the Ikon only had this so I gave it a shot.

Pros:

Delicious espresso, nice crema, but it does take some experimenting with grinds, etc. I am still working on getting it just how I want it, but still, the worst cup out of this machine is better than good cups in others. I use it for lattes almost exclusively, but my husband has had shots and likes them a lot. It is incredibly fast shot to shot, something I was hesitant about in leaving my beloved filling and tamping behind, but now I will never look back! The frother is very powerful and fast, the best I''ve had on any machine.

Cons:

As another reviewer mentioned, this machine has quite a personality! It is like C3PO (or is it R2D2) in my kitchen each day, Flashing, blinking, making sounds. It always wants something: Fill water, empty grounds, release hot water. If I didn''t like the coffee and ease of use so much it might be annoying but for now I find it entertaining. I feel like it''s letting me know what it needs, so that''s ok I guess.

I don''t like how plasticky it is, it feels like a $100 Krups, but it looks nice and the coffee is what matters. Nearly everything comes apart for easy and thorough cleaning, so I always know it''s clean through and through, unlike some other machines I''ve had.

Machine is kinda big. I have a lot of counter space (for once in my life!) and I have it angled in a corner. It looks great and blends in, but if space is an issue for you, note that the size is a bit deep. The curve of it makes it look a little smaller than it is, and it definitely looks stylish.

Other comments:

Some online reviews I saw noted it''s finicky about beans. I''ve tried two kinds now and haven''t had any trouble with the taste or grinder getting stuck.

I hope this review is helpful. The espresso machine purchase process is overwhelming, and it seems like there are shortcomings to all of them. I am really glad I took two back wound up with this one, even if the process of finding it was maddening. I was about to give up and not even own a machine at home any longer. I gave it one last whirl with this one. As I was walking out of the dept. store, a stately European couple saw me walking with the giant orange box and stopped me to tell me "What a great machine! We bought it a few months ago, you''re going to love it." I grilled them about 4-5 concerns, they raved, and I felt like I was at least off to a better start with this machine than with the others that were mediocre or bad.

FYI: Many Bed, Bath and Beyonds sell these and honor the 20% mailers they send out, should you choose to buy it in person. (I would, in case anything goes wrong. I am done with getting electronics >$100 online and messing with shipping.)

This was my first espresso machine that I have owned, but have used many manual machines. The most common use I have for it, is making espresso/cappuccino for family dinners; I do make single batches for myself on weekends. I have found it superb for single doses and a tad more complicated for multi-batch sessions. I agree that more stainless vs. plastic would have been nice, but the plastic is easy to clean, and does blend nicely into a stainless kitchen. The wand should have been either all metal or "rubber" (some heat resistant pliable stuff) as hard plastic is the worst of both worlds, but that being said I have had zero problems with it. It is very easy to clean. On the other hand, it is impossible to foam and not get foam on the handle and up into the joint between the tip and the pipe of the wand (remember to clean it too). I would be gentle with the wand.

Making Coffee

1. First off finding the sweet spot on the coffee strength meter, will take you a few batches. On my machine just about 2.5 dots makes a perfect 2 cup espresso.

2. Be careful on first startup of the day, put a mug underneath the machine, as the cleaning/priming cycle can spurt a fair amount of boiling coffee stained water. I keep a spare mug next to the machine just for startup.

3. Eventually after the entertaining light show (really? before I''ve had my coffee??) the machine is ready for brewing. Press the big coffee cup button, and after loud grinding, magically coffee comes forth! Depending on your dial setting you get anything from concentrated espresso through cafe-americano.

4. Now onto milk steaming (for cappuccino/latte). First off press the steam button and wait until the thermometer stops blinking. Now using your spare cup open the steam valve and let the boiling water spew out until steam only is coming. Now insert into your milk pitcher and foam until you get to 140-150 degrees (yes you need a foaming thermometer) which depending on how cold your milk is, a minute or two. Make your cappuccino as desired.

5. Cleaning: well remember that hockey puck of beans it made, well it''s sitting in the container to the right, along with overflow of the steaming cycle. This machine has a bizarrely low tolerance for stuff in the right container. I have had it complain with 2 batches of espresso (sometimes due to too much water and if the grounds land standing on edge, it gets unhappy too). When making lots of batches in a row, you will be filling water and emptying the waste side frequently. Some people are more annoyed than others. I agree, slightly larger would have been useful, but I wouldn''t want the machine to be larger. I also after removing the wand tip and cleaning it in the sink, then take my spare mug filled with hot water and clean the handle and end of the wand (it undoubtable has milk on the o-rings, etc.

Other lessons:

1. I found larger beans makes it unhappy, I switched to the Illy whole beans, which have smaller beans, and works perfectly.

2. Not sure why the water filter is not included: buy them, as it tastes better and more importantly reduces scale buildup.

3. Read the manual on maintenance (there is a Saeco kit that includes everything) and perform it regularly. To remove the guts (the brew group) it''s behind the door on the right, press the "push" button and pull the whole thing out. Carefully follow the directions in applying the silicone lubricant as instructed. It''s a little tricky getting it all back in.

Sum up: I really like it, and it cranks through repeat brewing fairly quickly (albeit with the delay of refilling/emptying) without complaint. Occasionally it becomes "de-primed" which is solved by opening the steam valve and dispensing hot water until it stops blinking red. Not sure what de-primes it, but it is infrequent. I would purchase this again.

This is my second Saeco Espresso machine that I have bought in the last year. I first bought the Taleo Giro for $1000 from Costco, which worked beautifully for about 4 months, but then a clogged grinder prevented me from brewing any more coffee--only the hot water worked. I called Saeco on multiple occasions and even though every one was friendly, the only resolution was sending me one instruction booklet after another. Some instructions did not match my model, some where from a previous version of the same model and some were so complicated that I did not know how to follow them (it was basically taking apart the entire grinder--and that was recommended to be done every two weeks). I spend less time maintaining my car then it looks like the Saeco machine requires.

Then I bought the Saeco Odea upon reading the instruction manual and feeling assured that I did not need to disassemble the machine every other week. Again, it stopped working after 6 months. Again, I get brochures from their customer service, but no trouble shooting assistance--and this model apparently also requires complete disassembly of the grinder every other week. When asked why the original manual does not let you know that, I received an "I don''t know".

I am going back to my basic Krups model that requires no maintenance--if you are looking for a hobby and love to take things apart, the Saeco might be a great fit--otherwise: Stay clear.

As another reviewer stated, this coffee machine is great when it works. I purchased this Saeco as a gift for my mother because I had been so satisfied with my own Saeco Charisma I had purchased a year and a half prior. Unlike the Charisma, the Odea Go has been a huge disappointment. Out of the box, it did not function and had to be returned to Saeco for repair. That return went fairly smoothly. Now less than 5 months later, it is not working again (it appears to be a problem with the bean grinder which they had replaced the first time around). Upon calling Saeco, my mother was told she would have to pay for any repairs this time, even though it comes with a 1-year warranty. I am counfounded by this.

In sum: Extremely poor product backed by very poor customer service.

Also, don''t buy this from Kitchen Gadetry, as they have a terrible return policy. If they weren''t going to charge me a $150 return fee the first time around, I would have returned this machine and purchased something different. Now it appears with are stuck with a $550 lemon.

This is a lower quality import. The unit works, but when you install it, you need to have some knowledge of plumbing. The unit does not include Plumber''s Grease of the 4 cartridges ''O-rings''. double check all factory installed tubing connections; most are not secure and will leak, so before charging unit make certain you remove the c-clamp and push/pull on all connects (remember to replace the c-clamps). The instruction booklet (ha ha ha) poorly translated into English, is written for all five models without identifying the differences (some models are standard and some use have electronics components), and absolutely no directions to direct you as to which tube is connected to which spot. The only indicator for correct hookup is the tubes are colored and you need to match that color to a ''colored plug'' on the unit, then look at the booklet to find the tiny diagram that labels the colors so you know that red is waste line, whit is supply line, blue to dispenser, and yellow to tank. The included dispensing faucet does installation parts are designed for a sink with a 1/2" hole, So if you are replacing an existing unit (or have a standard 2" hole in your sink) then note that this unit does not have any method for securing the faucet, you''ll need to rig some type of bracket or use a couple of huge machine washers on the underside to mount the thing. Speaking of dispensing faucet; extremely cheap, wobbly, very poorly made, but it does work. I suggest spending the extra $15 at hardware store to buy a better faucet.

Overall, I''d say to think twice before buying. If you are knowledgeable and able to make things work, go ahead with this brand to save $100 over a high quality RO from a local hardware store (by the way, avoid the whirlpool units at Lowes. I am both a Lowes and a Whirlpool fan, but their RO is garbage. I guarantee you will have issues with the regulating diaphragm within 1-3 years, and that''s the end of the entire unit''s usefulness).

BISSELL with Febreze Freshness Carpet Cleaning Powder Save 14% Off

This was the only carpet powder I could find on my last trip to Wal-Mart, and I wasn''t expecting much. Our house is mostly tile, but we have a large living room rug that gets vacuumed daily because we have two dogs with some shedding. I noticed lately, while I was doing push ups on the rug, that it smelled of dog. That won''t do!

So first I cleaned the rug with our Bissell Spot Bot. I bought the pet cleaning product and saturated the rug with it, then sucked the liquid off. That made no difference. I sprayed it with Febreze which made it smell like coconuts and the faint suggestion of tropical dog.

Finally I tried this powder. The instructions say to work the powder in. I didn''t really have a tool to do that the first time, so I just walked all over it roughly. I waited 20 minutes. I vacuumed. Nothing.

The next time, I took my broom first thing in the morning and washed it. Once it tried a applied the powder and worked it in with the broom. I waited more like 45 minutes, mostly cause I was doing other things. When I vacuumed it up this time, the carpet smelled like NOTHING, neither coconuts, or fresh laundry, dog, or even wool. It was the absence of all smell. I thought it was actually brillant! So I went back, since we have guests coming, and spayed the coconut spray just for a touch.

Just to make sure it wasn''t a fluke, I tried to again today. Same smell of nothing! Great news, so I''m buying more.

A word of note: this 18oz can had cleaned my 5x7 rug 3 times, so I need about 6oz per clean. When I apply it I''m looking for the whole rug to be clouded in white. The bottle doesn''t mention the intended coverage use, but I would say that you need about 0.5oz per sq ft of carpet.

I''m not quite sure what to make of Bissell''s carpet cleaning powder. It does work, but required alot of work on my part to make that happen. I was pretty surprised to learn that you have to "scrub" the powder into the carpet. I have a high traffic area near my front door, so I tried out the powder there as I didn''t want to crawl around scrubbing my whole living room carpet and after much scrubbing in of the powder it did clean the "path" on the high traffic area I used it on, but it wasn''t worth the time and effort in my opinion. Much easier to use a carpet steam cleaner or even a spray foam carpet cleaner that lifts the dirt out without much if any effort by me. In fact, this powder seems like a step backward in carpet cleaning to me. In the end it did work, but there are easier and faster solutions out there. I wasn''t pleased with how it filled up my bagless vaccum either, it was more work to clean out the canister really well. I suppose if you have a small area to clean or, based on some other reviews, a problem with pets (which I don''t have) this powder might be a good choice, but for me, it was alot of work for very little reward.

I have some high traffic areas in my house that get dingy quick and vacuuming alone doesn''t do much. I usually have to get out the steam cleaner to make a difference which is a pain so I was very excited to try the carpet cleaning powder. I followed the directions exactly (which included getting a broom and "scrubbing" the powder into the carpet which I wasn''t thrilled with). When I vacuumed everything up, my carpet looked a little fluffier (probably from the broom "scrubbing"), but the dinginess was exactly the same. After about a day of walking on it again, you couldn''t tell I did a thing. I really had high hopes for this product, but it simply didn''t deliver any results for me.

The wetness you feel when walking on the powder was kind of weird. I followed the directions on the back of the container. I vacuumed first then used this product and vacuumed again to be sure it did what it says. When I dumped out the canister of dirt it seemed to have worked well. Yuck! I like the scent of the product and I will definitely be buying this in the future!

I couldn''t tell a radical difference between this rug powder and others. You sprinkle a talcum looking substance all over the rug, then scrub it in with a brush -those brushes that come with stick carpet cleaners are great, you don''t have to get on your knees -and then you come back later and vacuum. I could tell just a very slight difference, and I didn''t get as much fresh smell in the room as I was hoping for. The difference was the rug under my bare feet didn''t feel quite as greasy and matted down, but that could have just been a result of the brushing!

Maxwell House Master Blend Ground Coffee

This is a good, everyday, go-to coffee. The size is meant for a 10 cup coffee pot, or if you like your coffee a little on the light side. I made the mistake of thinking that the coffee would come in individual filter packs. My mistake. Other than that I have no complaints.

I really thought I was getting the prepack with it already in a filter, not loose coffee. Was very disappointed. Seller should really specify this.

Coffee is fine, basic coffee. I usually make 10 cups instead of 12 with one package beacue I like my coffee a little stronger.

My workplace received one of these a week or two ago and after some use, I have to say that I mostly like this for the below reasons:

What I like: I like that this is hooked up to the building''s water supply. There''s no filling of any reservoirs at any point in time, although occasionally the unit will need to drain or to heat its inner reservoir. This doesn''t take very long and the wait time is not that much more than the smaller Keurigs that have the reservoir that you have to fill manually. It''s a bit larger so it takes longer, but that''s about it. It''s a fast machine and despite some initial confusion over what people needed to push to get the desired result (we had no instructions left for us), it was pretty easy to learn what we needed when. There is an option to just get hot water, which is nice. You could technically get that with the other Keurigs, but it''s still nice.

What I''m ambivalent about: Rather than you having to remove the k-cup cartridge after use, the unit dumps it into a bucket with several other k-cups. You have to empty it out occasionally and the bucket will sometimes fill up with water, which I think is part of the draining process. The lazy part of me likes this, as I tend to leave k-cups in the machine sometimes, but the more fastidious part of me hates that there are several used k-cups in the machine that are sometimes sitting in an inch of water. It''s not that the machine isn''t emptied regularly, it''s just the thought of it.

There really isn''t anything I dislike about it at this point in time. The only thing I can say about it is that if something breaks, you absolutely have to take this in for repair. It''s too expensive to be trusted to anyone other than someone who is experienced with this sort of machine. If you have someone at work who knows how to fix them, then repairs wouldn''t be as bad as getting someone to fix the internal bits and bobs of your office copier or printer, but this isn''t as easy to fix or replace as the more inexpensive units.

Despite it being bigger and looking more impressive than the smaller units, this is generally not any different than your basic machine. It looks like it could put up with more abuse than its kin and it''s good for larger amounts of users, but if you have an office that has under 10 workers that would only drink about 10-15 cups a day, you could probably get away with one of the smaller machines. If you know that they''ll drink more than that a day or that you have more workers, this is probably the way to go.

Instructions included need to be a bit more explanitory when it somes to the tubbing leading from the filter and from the coffee pot. Nothing is mentioned about the adapter needed to adjust the the two lines together.
