Calphalon Electric 10-Cup Quick Brew Thermal Coffeemaker Save 50% Off

Calphalon Electric 10-Cup Quick Brew Thermal CoffeemakerThe pros:

good looking machine lit display is especially nice

fairly well priced

makes good tasting coffee that is quite hot

carafe keeps coffee hotter than most similar carafes

controls easy to use

The cons:

if you prefer a paper filter (and we do) it can be hard to place it in basket such that it doesn''t fall over and make a mess with grounds all over the place and coffee not right (and basket full of messy leaking liquid)

the stop drip feature seems to work worse than most (ours doesn''t seem to stop anything)

machine is heavy hard to slide around the counter

produces a lot of steam so you really can''t have it right under a counter

We loved our old Cuisinart with thermal carafe (a style not made anymore) but this machine seems to make better, hotter coffee that stays hotter longer. When the filter flops over though (which is does sometimes despite what I think is careful positioning) it makes a terrible mess. We never had this problem with our old machine.

All in all a decent machine with a few flaws.

All I want is a good cup of coffee. When our Braun coffeemaker stopped working I went on-line to Amazon to look for a new machine with a thermal carafe. I read far too many reviews and every product seemed to have more negative reviews than I like to see. Common complaints were: coffee not hot enough, coffee maker and/or carafe spills too easily, and machine stopped working. So I had to go to a real store several stores in fact and see these coffeemakers for myself. I ended up with this Calphalon HE100CMT coffee maker, which at the time I bought it had only one Amazon review.

Inspecting the display models, I found that the construction of this Calphalon was noticeably better than the other coffee makers in its price range. Instead of plastic made to look like metal this has a real metal shell (which I''ll admit shows fingerprints readily). The hinged covers for the brewing basket and water reservoir seemed more rugged and of a higher quality than the other units on the shelves. So I brought the Calphalon home.

I think coffee maker engineers have quite a challenge making thermal carafes that keep coffee hot. My wife, who would prefer a glass carafe on a hot plate, finds the coffee temperature from the Calphalon''s thermal carafe acceptable only because I pre-warm the carafe and her coffee mug with hot water. Compared to our simple old Braun thermal carafe, this Calphalon carafe has a spring-loaded button in its lid to keep heat in once the carafe is removed from the coffee maker, and gaskets on the screw-on lid. I''m not sure this makes much real difference in the temperature but this design very nearly made me return the Calphalon to the store.

Of the first three full pots of coffee I made, two created countertop spills that rivaled that of the Exxon Valdez. After the first disaster I made sure I had the carafe top screwed on correctly, the coffee cone positioned just so, and the entire coffee maker leveled on our not very level counter. I still experienced a second disaster and as Calphalon advertises this coffee maker brews a lot of coffee in a hurry so there was quite a flood. To the reviewer who called this design "pathetic" if I''d seen your review I wouldn''t have bought this product. However, I did buy the machine and I was not ready to admit to my wife that I''d made a mistake. After experimenting I''ve convinced myself that the lid button when new is a little sticky and that making sure it moves freely will avoid flooding. This has worked uneventfully for the past few days and we''ve enjoyed our coffee.

This Calphalon is a big coffeemaker. It has a removable water reservoir, and I think that''s why it''s half again as big as my old Braun with its built-in water tank. And one more observation: the Calphalon''s "auto pause and serve valve" should be called "slows down dripping somewhat when you remove the carafe". I think I would give this machine 3 1/2 stars if I could but I''ll round up and give it four stars.

Updated October 2012: "I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him."

Our Calphalon coffee maker expired today, less than a year after we bought it. After it made this morning''s coffee we detected an electrical odor and it appears that the heating element burned out. (I opened it up to conduct a post-mortem.) I see that other reviewers have reported this problem.

My wife''s reaction when I told her that the machine had died was "oh good." She was tired of wrestling with the screw-on carafe lid, having to wipe up spills whenever we poured coffee from the carafe, and the "auto pause" feature never quite working. I leapt onto Amazon and ordered a new machine from a different manufacturer.

I''ll take away two stars from the Calaphon due to its early demise and leave it with two stars since it did make pretty good coffee for almost a year.

Have you ever read the reviews on ANY coffee maker? Check them out on any brand and you''ll find the same complaints. Most of these are user error. Let''s start with the biggie, coffee leaks all over the countertop when brewing. Older coffee makers shot the water over the grounds in the filter with a single stream of water. New units transfer the water with something resembling a shower head. If you put a paper filter in the unit and it isn''t perfectly placed, the heated water will fold the paper filter over and water will leak everywhere. You don''t need to concern yourself with this problem on this unit as it comes with a gold, metal filter. Don''t use paper filters. Besides that, the gold filter saves you money.

I bought his unit because it has a metal, thermal carafe. Glass carafes break. Units with glass carafes have plate type heaters to keep the coffee warm. This causes the water in the coffee to evaporate rendering the coffee horrible in a short period of time. With the thermal carafe the coffee is kept warm for hours and you can take the carafe to the dinner table or desk in your office. The next common complaint is about the tops on all the thermal carafes. In order for the coffee to remain warm in the thermal carafe, the lid must fit securely. People are not careful in putting the lid on the carafe and strip the threads on the lid. When the threads become stripped, the lid will leak. When you screw on the lid, make sure that it screws on evenly. You won''t have any problems.

This unit brews 10 cups in about 2 minutes. It''s smokin'' fast. It also has several brewing modes, bold, 1-4 cups and a combination of both bold and 1-4 cups. When you set the timer for auto brewing, the mode you have set does not show in the display.

The unit looks great on the countertop and it''s smokin'' fast. Take my tips into consideration and you will enjoy some great coffee.

UPDATE: The coffee maker simply quit working after approximately one month. I returned it.

The mechanism that is meant to seal off the pot to keep it hot does not work propoerly and coffee spills all over the counter and floor when it brews. This happened 4 out of the first 10 times I used the machine, plan to take it back immediately. As mentioned in a previous review the lid also leaks when pouring. For a fairly expensive coffee maker, this is pathetic, doesn''t even do the basics correctly. Please do not buy this product.

Want Calphalon Electric 10-Cup Quick Brew Thermal Coffeemaker Discount?

I was a bit skeptical as I really liked (mostly) our old Cuisinart thermal 12-cup maker (owned two) but one day it just stopped turning on every time probably fro an overflow of coffee earlier. My wife works at Macy''s and got this one with her discount. Wasn''t sure . at first...I now like it a lot!

I will echo what another poster said... most complaints on this maker are user inflicted. It does require some thought and effort. Unlike the Cuisinart which was stupid simple to use.

Pros...

Great tasting hot coffee, Very fast, Looks good, Removable Water tank, gold-tone filter.

Cons...

More daily maintenance, only 10-cup, instructions not clear. Stupid time setting no skipping fast forward etc.

Mid-pour does not not work at all.

Here are my trial and error pointers when using this particular coffee maker...

First, make sure you clean the thermal carafe out every time, to avoid forgetting and making another pot. That makes a total mess. I did this at first. Since you have an removable reservoir you may forget there is liquid already in the carafe. I did.

Second, There are three arrows on the lid.. use them! The unlabeled arrow is he "brew" arrow... the other labeled ones are "pour" and "lock". Take the time to set the proper arrow. Also be very careful when you initially screw the cap on. Line the threads up.

Third, rinse out the carbon filter in tank before you put in reservoir to get rid of a lot excess carbon. I have RO filtered water so after it wears out (3 months)I''ll probably not use their carbon filter system.

In all I like it! It has more daily maintenance time than the Cuisinart, makes much better coffee. I think if you are OK with the daily maintenance to keep this run running smooth its a great good looking choice. I does make coffee faster which is nice and the carafe opening is large enough and shallow enough that you can really clean the carafe unlike the Cuisinart which got really black really quick over time.

We are keeping the Cuisinart thermal carafe as a backup as it does a better job maintaining the temperature over many hours.. for parties etc. This one keeps coffee hot but for not the same amount of hours.

4 stars just because it isn''t perfect... I''m sure no coffee maker is "perfect". They all have pluses and minuses.

BestAir A12W Aprilaire 12 Paper Wick Waterpad Save 10% Off

BestAir A12W Aprilaire 12 Paper Wick WaterpadI chose this item as a less expensive substitute for the Apilaire water pad. After using it for a few weeks, I ntoiced a puddle of water on the floor around the furnace. After opening the furnace, I found about a half-inch of water at the bottom of the air return duct and some water inside the furnace. I removed the water pad from the humidifer and noticed that there was about a 1/2 inch gap between the top of the pad and the bottom of the water distribution tray. I don''t remember whether it was like this when I first installed it ( I think that it was) or whether it may have shrunk or deformed after being wet for some time. In either event, because of the gap, if the air flow through the humidifer is strong enough, the air blows the water dripping off the bottom of the distribution tray directly into the air duct instead of allowing it to dtip onto the top of the pad. Through time, it accumulates at the bottom of the duct and eventually leaks into the furnace and onto the floor. This product is not suitable for use in an Aprilaire model 440 humidifer. Do not buy it. Spend a few dollars more and buy the Aprilaire replacement pad which is a stiffer material instead of this paper-like material and does not have a gap between the top of the pad and the bottom of the distribution tray.

This item is intended as a replacement water pad for a humidifier system. Its packaging lists it as compatible with:

Aprilaire 112, 136, 224, 440, 445, 445A, 448

Chippewa 224, 225, 226

Walton 600, 620, 660

I ordered this item from Todays Concept. The item graphic at the time showed an A12W Aprilaire replacement waterpad box. And the title for the item at the time was "RPS #A12W Aprilaire112 Water Pad" however the item received was a regular A12, not the A12W. The item image has since been updated to show a graphic of the waterpad itself, not the packaging. But the item title still specifies "#A12W" at the time of this review.

Also, the item description at the time of review is a bit sketchy, including "features" unrelated to a replacement water pad, including:

1-DuraGuard antimicrobial vinyl with a molded wood core

2-Stylish designs complement your bath décor

3-Fits all manufacturer''s standard round bowls

The item received (#A12) is actually made of layers of expanded metal (see ) coated with a white substance, possibly vinyl or teflon (difficult to say). The difference with an A12W is that an A12W is often made of expanded plastic and coated with an absorptive material such as paper fiber or cloth fiber. The absorptive material helps to distribute the water and gives it more surface area from which to evaporate, also it helps minimize wasted water.

Be aware, unless they have changed inventory, you may be receiving an A12 rather than an A12W.

These aren''t inexpensive and it is hoped they make a difference in keeping my Jura J9 operating at its best for many years. I have well water and don''t want the sediment fouling this very expensive machine. The filters are well built and seem substantial and likely to do the job.

The Jura Capresso was not a cheap coffee maker and we will not try a substitute filter. We''ve had our machine for 4 years and with good care (& the use of the Clearyl Blue Filters), it has remained in perfect working conditions with daily use.

Holmes S1708 Humidifier Bacteriostat Save 18% Off

Holmes S1708PDQ-U Humidifier BacteriostatFor several years we have used a large humidifier during the winter months. Despite frequent cleaning and care, we had to replace the humidifier filters every few weeks. We started using the Holmes Bacteriostat last winter and only had to replace the filter a single time, three-quarters of the way through the winter.

Follow the directions on the bottle and not only save money by not having to replace the humidifier filters as often, but it can also save you from breathing mold spores growing on an untreated filter (before the filter even looks like it needs changing).

From the bottle''s label:

Holmes

Humidifier Water Treatment

Model S1705

* Prolongs the life of wick filters and warm mist heating systems

* Helps prevent lime and scale build-up

* Provides easier cleaning

My motivation for buying the Treatment was to increase the lifespan of the wick. I was only getting a few months life from a wick, using about two per winter. Using the Treatment, one wick is lasting more than one winter.

And the bottle lasts more than a winter, so it''s worth it.

I hate to recommend W*lmart, but I bought my last bottle there for less than $2. That was still during the end of the humidifying season. Guess I should have bought two. I also bought their last half-dozen HM3600 humidifier wicks for $2 each (in July), when you couldn''t find them for less than $12 anywhere on eBay.

I''ll need another year to determine just how much longer the wicks are lasting, now that I''m on the Treatment. I just checked my wick. I think I used it for almost all last winter. It''s just a little soft all over, but no serious deterioration. And no smell, just in case you''re counting.

The instructions recommend adding a capful with every 3 gallons of water -as a start -and then after a while, you''re supposed to determine whether your water needs more or less. I used a little less, and it still did the trick for my wick, apparently. My water is very soft. The instructions say harder water will require more Treatment. Granted, that''s not a lot of guidance.

I didn''t know if it''s allowed to combine bactericide with the Treatment, so I didn''t. Between the Treatment and being careful not to allow the humidifier to sit with water if it was turned off, the water never got smelly.

Buy Holmes S1708 Humidifier Bacteriostat Now

Before we tried the S1708 in our humidifier MA0800, we had to replace the filter about once per month. I would buy a case of 6 filters for over $60 each winter season. Since our baby was born we have decided to leave the humidifier running year round. I have used a bottle of this and am now ordering another and have only used 2 filters this entire year. I went to change it like normal, but the filter was like new. The only time I''ve had to change the filter is when we left it off for a few weeks with water in the tank.

Great product that saves me money. Thanks Holmes!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Keeps my humidifier smelling fresh and clean all the time. I highly recommend this product. (Be sure to add after filling the contained though or it will bubble up.)

Want Holmes S1708 Humidifier Bacteriostat Discount?

We could not find this item anywhere then i looked on amazon.com and here it was. You have to use antibacterial even when you get a ball with the machine that is said to do the job.

I love this product. I like the larger bottles and it really makes our room clean smelling not musty and molded. Our maching stays super clean and free of all bacteria and molds using this. I would not be without it.

If you are using a humidifier and they say you do not need to add chemical, wrong. Buy this and you will see the difference and how clean your machine and air stays.

This is a great buy. My icemaker was down for a long time, and with the heat wave, I needed it working again. My old motor was dead, and what should have been about a $20 replacement motor, was over $100, so I cancelled that idea, started shopping for a complete icemaker, and found this one. It was easy to install, and even though it is a newer design than my old one, it included the adapter cable, and fit right in with the same screws. It started making ice cubes within 2 hours, and dumps a new tray of ice about every hour. I am very pleased with it''s performance and cost (only about $40 incuding shipping!) I''m back to having frozen pina coladas and iced coffee.

Nesco Gwk-57, 1.7-Liter Glass Water Kettle Save 25% Off

Nesco Gwk-57, 1.7-Liter Glass Water KettleThe kettle is very stylish and does boil water quite fast. The auto shutoff sometimes fails however as the carafe is transparent it is usually obvious when it is boiling and picking it up shuts it off. The primary problem we had was with the lid. There is a silicone gasket that seals the lid and a push button release that is supposed to pop the lid open. Right from the start this was sticky and reluctant to open and now after less than two months of use the rim where the gasket rests has started rusting and the lid can only be opened by prying it up with the button depressed. We have requested an RMA.

I purchased this product for 2 reasons:

1. It was BPA free and

2. I absolutely loved the design

I have done a lot of research on this type of kettles and I couldn''t find the one that met my criteria and had a great design. When I finally found this one, it seemed like it was going to be the one: modern and cool stainless steel design, BPA free and efficient. Unfortunately the quality was not there. The kettle I got was not BPA free because part of the silicone where the glass meets the stainless plate at the bottom was exposed. I have not noticed it immediately but when I boiled the water in it, I smelled it. It seemed that silicone on one half of the perimeter of the metal plate was below the plate, as I think it should be and part was exposed in contact with water. I was very disappointed, because it is a new design and I would expect a better quality control. Unfortunately, I returned it. Very disappointing. I gave it 2 stars for design.

I bought this kettle after our old one broke down. I read all the reviews regarding glass Kettles and thought that this will be perfect. It might be BPA free but the silicone on the bottom of the glass is fully exposed to the water giving the water a plastic smell and taste. Have used it for 3 weeks constantly boiling water in it and the smell and taste did not go away, tried baking soda and vinegar to no help. It has minor issues like the lid of the Kettle gets really hot so you have to be careful opening it to pour water for another pot; the mineral builds up really fast even though we use filtered water. Returned it due to the smell and taste of the water, if it did not smell we would keep it.

Austin Air Healthmate Jr Replacement Filter

Austin Air Healthmate Jr Replacement Filter w/ Prefilter - Sandstone
  • Prefilter included for outside of main filter.
  • 6.5 lbs of solid activated carbon and zeolite for odor and gas removal.
  • Easy replacement of existing filter.
  • 30 sq. ft. true HEPA medical filter medium.

I bought the Austin Healthmate Jr. about 2 years ago for a dusty area and have been happy with it. The three things I like best about it are that you don''t have to buy filters very often because you can vacuum the outside of the filter and that it''s relatively quiet. The other thing is that it takes air in on all four sides and blows the filtered air out through the top area. It seems to do a good job of filtering the air. It''s more energy efficient than air purifiers I''ve used in the past and it has 3 speeds which is nice.

If you use it in really dusty conditions like mine, you can replace the pre-filter more often than the big filter. I''ve found this type of material that I could cut to fit at a local hardware store. You get a pre-filter with it. You have to take it apart to replace the pre-filter and filters, but it isn''t difficult. You can turn off the machine and vacuum it from the outside and that seems to help the filters last longer. Of course, you''ll want to use a vacuum cleaner with a hepa filter or you defeat the purpose. I replace mine about once a year, but I think the average person could go much longer.

The only reason I didn''t give it 5 stars is because I don''t really have any way of measuring how good of a job it really does, only that it seems to do a good job in terms of allergies, odors, etc. There are so many air filters out there and so many claims, that it''s hard to sort them out. But if I had to buy a filter for another room, I would probably buy this brand again.

I bought three Austin Air Healthmates almost a decade ago, to help deal with my many inhalant allergies. Two Jr models and one full sized one. I put the full sized one in the living room where I exercise and watch TV, one in the bedroom, and one in my home office. When I remodeled a garage for a home office, installing paneling, vinyl flooring, dropped ceiling, and more, I put the Healthmate Jr in the room while finishing construction was still underway. I never walked in and smelled the classic "plastic" smells that are quite common with new vinyl flooring, plastic coated paneling, or polystyrene ceiling tiles. I have seen my allergy symptoms decrease, especially when I stay indoors during peak pollen days. I also don''t have half the dust my friends have in their houses. I recommend the Healthmate for anyone with hay fever or allergies, and especially for those who work at home or for retired folks. The filters only have to be replaced every five years, and cost less than the cheap air filter machines with filters that have to be replaced monthly.

  • Attaches in minutes to your existing tap and takes only a small space on your counter

I bought my counter top water filter about two years ago and have the Water for Life filter replacement plan. The water filter itself seems to work great. I fill up my own bottles before I leave the house and I have good, clean water all day. I ran out while at work one day and filled up my bottle from the tap. The water had so much chlorine in it I had to pour it back out. The problem with this filter system is twofold. A new filter will be sent to you every 6 months on the Water for Life plan. My filters are so clogged after 5 months that I leave a bottle to fill and come back for it. That''s how slow the water comes out. A five month plan would be more optimal. The second problem is replacing the filters. I dread replacing them every time. Unless you have applied some sort of lube to the housing you are going to have a fight on your hands getting the caps unscrewed from the bottom of the machine. It is all sharp plastic under there so as soon as you get one to let go you scrape the skin from you knuckles. I have an open wound right now from my efforts. Once you get the machine open then you have to fight and get the old filters out. One has a valve that faces you so that one comes out easily. The other faces away and all you have to grab ahold of it are little fins so get your pliers ready. If the moons are aligned properly the filter will come out in one piece. If not, the cap of the filter will come off and be stuck inside the machine. Good luck with that and get ready to lose some more skin. Go ahead and call customer service when this happens to get a really amusing solution from someone that has no idea how to remove this piece from the machine. I lube that side''s valve with olive oil before installing so hopefully it does not get stuck. My advice, wear sturdy gloves when changing the filter and have a full toolbox at hand.

A few notes about this unit:

-Brushed silver finish is not brushed silver, just a plastic which slightly mimics the look.

-Installation is really simple

My faucet diverter came broken, I called their support and they sent me out a replacement immediately and their support hours were pretty late which was convenient. So while I don''t yet have a working unit I am happy so far with the purchase and support I have received.

---Update:

The support got me a replacement diverter, it wasn''t the premium diverter the unit came with however it worked without leaking which was great. Customer service sent me a third diverter just so that I''d have the premium one too. I really appreciated their customer service.

I saw another review mentioning they had water leaking from the diverter, this is the same problem I had, water gushing everywhere. If you buy this and have that problem then just call their support, they will get you a fixed one.

The water from this tastes great! It is a slow flow but that is to be expected from this technology.

--Update 2:

About a year after my purchase, my working replacement diverter started leaking. I called support, however they were unable to provide me with a replacement due to my unit being out of warranty. They did offer to send me one if I subscribed to their replacement filter auto-ship program. I already needed new filters so I agreed. I was sent a new diverter, it leaked. I called, they sent another. It leaked. I called again, sending another diverter now. So at this point, having gotten faulty diverters over a year apart, their claim of a ''faulty batch'' this time around is not accurate as I apparently can get a faulty diverted 90% of the time I get a replacement. Based on that, I''d say they have QA or even design issues with their diverters so beware of that. They also don''t really have a solution beyond sending you one additional diverter at a time until the problem is resolved, this has proven to me to be highly inconvenient as I am unable to use my filter for 2 weeks now and I''m not convinced the next few diverters will work based on my experience with previous replacements. To be seen how this gets resolved and how long it will take. I changed my star rating to 3 stars due to my continued issue with the diverters.

This product is a great solution for those of us who are renting homes/apts and are not able to have a permanent system installed, want something better than pitcher filters, and don''t have the money or arrogance to buy bottled water daily.

Even though the actual housing body isn''t small, it''s very inconspicuous and I have forgotten that it is even there after a day. I initially thought the hose that runs up to the faucet would be tacky and annoying as well, but that too I stopped noticing after a day.

I wish there was a way to guage exactly how much water you use with these filters, because the "six months" or whatever ratings that filter makers give seem to be based on some "average" amount that the "average" person would use, but I have no idea if I''m near that average. Even when I hear the actual gallon amount, I have to believe it totally depends on the quality of your water to begin with and I have no way or interest in keeping track of how many gallons of filtered water are going through the filters. Well, the fact is my first set of filters lasted about 3-4 months before just becoming PAINFULLY slow (over a minute to fill up a glass).

The water tastes deliciously fresh and clean. I can''t say I notice a huge taste difference between this and the Brita pitcher filter, but I TRUST that it is doing a better job according to the company''s testings. I can''t figure a better way to tell for sure.

Bottom line it''s cheaper than drinking bottled water, but more expensive than Brita filters (if you buy in bulk on amazon like I used to), but the bet is that you are spending a little bit more for the assurance that you are filtering out way more than the Brita''s were ever intended to.

I''m not sure why everyone else has had a hard time swapping out filters. I thought it was a breeze. Sign up for their Water for Life program for a great discount on filters that are shipped to you automatically at set intervals.

Knocked one star off because the mechanism for switching to tap/filtered water does not automatically go back to tap anymore like it should. It''s not a problem in reality, but it''s not doing what it was designed to do...

My wife and I live in Harlem, USA. I have always thought that NYC water was great!. A quick internet search will reveal that our water comes from two sets of watersheds north of the city. They have large filtration plants and very old pipes. This filter removes tons of stuff!!! The filtered water looks and tastes great!

*v*v* Important note for NYC, and if your filtered water runs slowly *v*v*

After less than a month of running this counter-top filter, the filtered water began to come out slower and slower each day until it barely dripped out. We were getting frustrated and annoyed.

I emailed Aquasana, and the next day I received a response that said to call him. After playing a round of phone tag I learned quite a bit. Lots of people were having this problem, especially in the NYC area. He told me that the NYC area has a large amount of sediment in the water and this quickly clogs the filter. Sure enough, I removed the filters (supposed to last 6 months) and they were very dark with dirt! Aquasana shipped me out a temporary solution as they look into a permanent solution. The temporary solution is a small pre-filter attachment that he sent me for FREE with three replacement pre-filters and a replacement set of the main filters. All for FREE! And he said to call him when I need more pre-filters.

Right after installing the new main filters and the new pre-filter, the water came pouring out like on day one! After only a few days with the pre-filter that is in a clear container, the pre-filter is turning that dark brown--ewww! We were drinking that for years!!!!!!!

Aquasana has an awesome filtration system with over-the-top customer service! I highly recommend their product. Make sure you call them if you have any problems.

Bought this filter last week after reading many reviews on the AQ-4000. This model was very easy to setup and within minutes I had filtered water that tasted amazing. Removes all traces of chlorine taste and this was my goal. Very well built and easy to use. Turn on the water and flick the little diverter and BAM.....clean water. My favorite feature is the auto-shut off. When you are done using the filter the diverter switch automatically resets so that you don''t accidentally turn the faucet back on and use hot water and ruin the filters. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for clean great tasting water.

KOHLER K-200-NA Aquifer Water Filtration System Save 25% Off

KOHLER K-200-NA Aquifer Water Filtration System
  • Single-stage filtration/absorption system reduces particulates, dirt, rust, chlorine, cysts and K-200/K-202 also reduces turbidity and lead
  • High-impact plastic construction with stainless steel fittings/hoses for increased durability
  • 1/4 turn quick-change, no-spill filter cartridge
  • NSF-compliant

I got this kit primarily because my old water filter leaked. it was sleek in that it only had one chamber versus the three that are normally found with different filters.

One way I like to tell if my filter water is actually filtered is by taste and sight. Our water doesn''t taste bad to begin with but having a filter is good for peace of mind. As for sight a simple test ive used was taught to me by the Culligan man. if you freeze the water the ice cube should be clear. well i did this shortly after install and it wasnt too clear.

so that is why i question the quality of the filter. either way, if it doesnt taste bad and the water is generally filtered, I give it average marks.

We purchased this for the kitchen of our church. The city well that serves this area has some sulfur and iron, though it is biologically safe. The pipes are old and some days the kitchen is not used at all. We were buying drinking water and it was expensive and we would often run out. We put in this filter with a dedicated faucet and the water tastes much better. We only use if for drinking water, making tea or coffee, lemonade, etc. and cooking. We replaced the cartridge after 6 months, but the water still tasted fine.

Kalorik Cordless Jug Kettle Save 38% Off

Kalorik Cordless Jug Kettle, White, 57-Oz.We''ve been using this kettle at work just fine. It''s very light weight but has a tall receptacle that holds the kettle well so we''re not concerned about tip over.

It boils incredibly fast & has a nice comfortable handle & easy to use lid release.

Make sure you follow the initial instructions to boil 3x letting cool each time, before the first use to remove any foul taste.

The element is not "protected" so we''d expect scale to build up, but that''s easily cleaned.

Only gripe is that the filter seems to fall out when tipped upside down. Even so, can recommend this kettle as a low cost but perfectly functional kettle.

It does what it is supposed to do at a good price. Bought two; one for my parents and one for me.

I use it at least 2-3 times per day. Much faster than either the electric stove or gas range although I do miss the whistling kettle sound.

The cordless feature and level window were two of the deciding factors besides price.

Initial downsides, it took several boiling cycles to get rid of the plastic smell. It is fine now. Once the boil is done it doesn''t keep the water piping hot for long.

Let''s start with context: I''m British so having a kettle is not optional and I have a lifetime''s experience of kettles!

When we arrived in the US 14 months ago our accommodation didn''t have a kettle and we didn''t know any local shops so we immediately ordered this kettle. Less than 14 months later I have had to buy a new kettle as this one became temperamental about switching on a couple of months ago and finally refused altogether. It had always felt pretty shoddy and light-weight on a par with the kind of cheap kettle I took to college some 25 years ago, (very few like this are sold any more t''other side of the pond bottom end of the market only, costing less than $15 final price.) For between $16 and $20 final price you can easily get much better and more stylish ones over there.

Anyway, back to this kettle. On/off switch is very flimsy and easily comes out of its holding clips. It has an exposed element so it gets "furred up" easily. It''s base is so flimsy that the plastic covering of the connecting point was already bent and distorted when we received it. Boil time is pretty average, (actually pretty slow if you''re used to British kettles.) Scale screen broke within a couple of months when my husband''s finger went through it when he was taking it out to clean it.

I have replaced it with a Hamilton Beach one from a famous discount store for $20. It''s a far better kettle: sturdier, faster boiling, concealed element, metal gauze scale screen which should prevent accidental breakage, it''s the central mount type rather than the jug type which is far more convenient and it''s a lot more stylish (shape and it''s stainless steal and black.) Spend your $20 on the HB one!

I bought this for my latest tour in lovely Afghanistan at home I have a glass and steel beauty, and I was missing it (and the easy availablity of hot beverages).

I followed the advice of other reviewers, and boiled (the same water in my case it is at a premium here!) three + times before drinking from it. That did the job: no taint of leeching plastic.

It is very inexpensive, the base is wide enough to keep it rock solid on my makeshift table (a scrap of 3/8" plywood held up by nylon cord to the rafters of my tent). I hasn''t tipped once in any weather, though trying to seat it on the electrical connector from a seated position next to it is not easy need to be standing to use it properly.

It is well designed doesn''t direct hot steam on your hand while you pour, and the little mesh screen that snaps into place to cover the spout does well at keeping dust and bugs out of the kettle. The handle is comfortable to the touch.

I am enjoying this cheapie champion very much, and for the price: you will too. I even think it looks pretty sharp much better than the 220V ugly, steam-throwing no-automatic-shutoff deathtrap I bought in Iraq last time (just because something is made by a German company does not guarantee it is well-engineered!)

This is a great kettle for the price. I have no complaints.

For about a year now, I have been using a Melitta kettle I got at a department store for $20. It is wonderful and gets used sometimes several times a day. I bought this kettle for my office; I assumed for the same price I could get a kettle of equal value. Instead, this kettle works well barely well enough to keep.

Probably the most disappointing thing is the large exposed coil, which looks very difficult to clean and requires that there be at least 1L in the pot for me to feel safe boiling water. It does shut off correctly after water boils, but it is difficult to see the light that is supposed to indicate that it is on, and the base design makes it somewhat awkward to use.

I was ecstatic to find this on whole house filter on Amazon! We use it for our whole house filter that goes with the Kinetico water softener. Great Find!

Holmes HM1761-U 2Gal Cool Mist Humidifier

Holmes HM1761-U 2Gal Cool Mist HumidifierWe have owned this unit for approximately 3-4 months and have had to change the filter four times now. At about $10 per filter, the cost of ownership is just not worth it. After about a month of use, the filters begin to smell musty or moldy, requiring us to change them (or fill the room with musty smelling moisture).

As humidifiers go, the unit is a bit loud, although as another reviewer said, the ''white noise'' type of sound doesn''t bother our sleep.

We''re definitely searching for a new humidifier this one is becoming to expensive to continue using.

We have 2 of these humidifiers, and they work very well. We require the white noise for sleeping, so we love that it is loud. The tank lasts for two nights (about 24 hours running time. We add a capful of Holmes Bacteriostat to the water each time, and no mold grows on the filter. This product is basically peroxide, and the bottle lasts all winter for two humidifiers. My only complaint is that there is no way to clean off the fan blades, and after three years of use we need new machines. Still, I think they are a great value and they help eliminate stuffy noses at our house!

I actually like the fact that it is loud. I bought it for my kids'' room. I like the white noise factor; it helps them both sleep.

I keep it upstairs and I can''t hear it downstairs. Doesn''t bother me at all. Easy to clean and fill.

I have a lot of Holmes products, so when I was looking for a new humidifier, I purchased this one. It is so loud! On high it sounded like a snow blower at a ski resort. If you are looking to put this in a bedroom or a place where you don''t want loud noise, look for a different model.

This humidifier is easy to use, easy to clean and works well without spewing white dust all over the place. The only complaint is that the fan blades get dirty after a few months and they are hard to get to to clean. I just got a screwdriver and took the thing apart, cleaned the fan, and put the unit back together.

HydrOxi Pro® Concentrate - 1 Quart

HydrOxi Pro® Concentrate - 1 QuartI got this today and used this to clean bathroom, kitchen floors, etc. and was very pleased with how well it cleans without toxic fumes, etc. is one of the best environmentally friendly cleansers I have come across. The floors are so clean, they look new, Most environmental cleansers sold in stores, etc. just do not clean that well.and the chemical ones have to be rinsed, leave a residue behind. plus fumes so noxious, and I hate putting toxic things in our water supply. This one you do not have to rinse, does not leave anything behind. and just has gentle citrus smell to it. a little goes a long way. I love that it comes concentrated and I can dilute for what I need. I am going to order a gallon of this. I love this! can use it for almost all cleaning needs. is going to take the place of all the other cleansers I''ve used. so glad I got this. highly recommend it. is safe, nontoxic, a pleasure to use. am grateful to this company, as it is hard to come up with nontoxic cleaner that does the job.

Swift Green SGF-G1 Refrigerator Filter

Swift Green SGF-G1 Refrigerator FilterNice Replacement for OE Filter at almost half the price and it definitely fit my GE refrigerator. I recommend this product.

The Swift Green SCF-G1 filter was easy to install, and solved my water supply problem in my fridge. It''s amazing how much better things taste when you use filtered water for cooking and drinking. The cost of the filter vs. life expectancy of the filter makes this an excellent choice over bottled water.

I have a GE profile fridge, and this thing just eats up the GE brand filters...as you can imagine these things aren''t cheap. I tried this swift filter made with coconut shells and water tastes great, filter doesn''t get clogged and the price is reasonable. This is my 4th filter, I replace them every 4 months, if it needs it or not.

The filter arrived on time from the shipper and was just as described . I unpackaged the filter and folowed the instructions . I soaked the filter in water for at leasted 15 minutes and then installed it in my fridge , easy as that , no problems . The filter is high quality construction and works like a champ at a third less money than the GE filter . I would recomend it to anyone that wants to save some money , and who doesn''t want to do that .
