My husband loves this coffee pot. The problem is, it is a little sensitive. He was washing it with a brush and barely bumped it on the sink, and while it did not break it did put a large crack around the carafe. We are very careful while handling it, primarily for the reasons listed by other reviewers, and we''ve only had it about 6 weeks. Maybe the glass is a little thin or not tempered properly? Either way, be careful while washing it.

I ordered this as a replacement when my Braun (model 3104, european 220v) coffeemaker''s original carafe was broken. I was concerned that it may not work since the drip function is triggered by the coffee pot being in just the right place. It works perfectly, though, and looks exactly like the original. I''ve seen some reviews that indicate the glass is weak or too thin, but I haven''t had any problems; seems to be of identical quality to the first carafe (which, by the way, was knocked off the counter onto a tile floor, so no surprise it broke!).

I live in an area with hard water. We installed a water softener to combat most of the problem.

I''ve tried CLR in the past without much success.

I ordered this after reading all the glowing reviews here, thinking it was the fact I''d used regular CLR and not this ''professional'' product.

I don''t get it, it just does not work! We bought 12 bottles. I''ve used 4 per 3 toilets over the past week! The white (not sure is lime or calcium) deposits are still there. I ended up scrubbing them off with a pumice stone. The deposits were not that thick.

It may work for rust and either lime or calcium, but it does;t seem to work for all hard water. It did not so much as make a dent in our rings.

I''m uploading pictures of what they toilets look like after 4 bottles over 1 week following the manufacturers instructions to the letter. This is how they looked 1 week ago!

This stuff puts every other toilet bowl cleaner I''ve tried to shame.

I had hard water build up that wouldn''t come off with a wire brush. It took exactly 20 minutes to go from OMG!!! grungy to shiney bright .. I left it on longer than the directions called for, just in case.

Jura 13422 Impressa C9 One Touch Automatic Coffee-and-Espresso Center Save 8% Off

we''ve had an S9 Jura for over 7 years and made over 6,000 coffees with it. It was a trooper and fantastic but sadly died on us so we wanted a replacement. I checked the specs for the S9 and C9 and seemed they were pretty much the same so for the price difference it felt living with a black and slimmer model with slightly less horsepower was a sensible trade-off.

The good;

1. Quiet

2. Small

3. Makes a nice cup of coffee (if administered well)

4. Button layout and customization is way easier than the old S9

The Bad

1. Black is not as attractive as the silver and also shows marks easier

2. Water filters are different sizes to the S9 (had a stock so that''s a little annoying)

3. All the essentials feel twice as small as the S9 and a pain.. the milk container cannot even support two Lattes, the water container is too small and the coffee store is also.

4. The One-Touch button makes for a warm and hot coffee so is also a pointless feature IMO.

5. Fixed steam spout so with large cups it will be a pain to remove them without spilling

When we made a coffee with the S9 and new with the C9 we put the coffee in first, fill the milk and 3/4 up we switch to steam and give it a blast for the heat. This on either machine makes a fabulous coffee but negates the value of the one-touch.

If I were doing this again, I''d go for either a cheaper model knowing the one-touch is pointless and if budget is the concern OR I''d sucked it in and gone for the S9 for the added capacity.. For me I wish I''d chosen the S9 as the capacity thing will probably grind on me more than anything else.. but the above will give you an idea of variances.

All this said, I LOVE Jura, for the years we''ve had them, they''re reliable, provide great service and well worth the investment. I''ll begrudgingly live with the C9 knowing I made the wrong choice,.. Hope this helps your decision process..

I purchased this recently after I returned my unreliable Saeco V''spresso model. This machine has been much more reliable and makes excellent quality espresso/cappuccino with the push of a button. My favorite feature is the frothing system that allows it possible to make a cappuccino without moving the cup. It is much quicker than the traditional steam wand for lazy people like myself. Jura-Capresso seems to have much better customer service and warranties than its competitors as an added bonus.

This is my second fully automatic espresso maker. The first one was a Jura Espresso E8. They seem to have a life span of about 5 years with very frequent use -probably 10-15 single cups a day.

The Jura-Capresso espresso maker only needs you to feed it with water and espresso beans and empty out the grounds drawer every once in a while. It does every single other thing. At the touch of a button, it grinds the beans to the perfect texture, tamps it to perfection, and brews espresso exactly. Finding espresso beans is always interesting. Right now, my favorite are from a small roaster called Ancora in Wisconsin. This espresso maker prefers beans that are not too dark and oily and never likes flavored beans. French Roasts are good, as are Columbian, for a rich flavor. Lavazza beans are good for everyday use. My only complaint? The espresso is just a little too perfect.

It is not the same as sitting in a cafe on a sidewalk in Paris sipping espresso and smoking gauloises. But very few things are.

I would like it better if the MFR used stainless-steel screws to hold it together as in the more-expensive gold model rather than rivets, so I can take it apart easily. And it is somewhat expensive.

Bought the 3-housing setup from amazon. Sediment, iron reduction, and carbon filters bought elsewhere only because amazon did not offer all 3 kinds. The 3-housing system comes pre-assembled which saves time and hassle. I supplemented the two mounting holes on the bracket with an angle bracket, one end mounted under one of the center filter attach screws and the other end attached to my floor joist. The whole 3-filter setup is a bit heavy and since the two supplied mounting holes are off-center of the center of gravity, the assembly tends to swing one way a bit when everything is installed and filled with water. Overall the system is great, very stout construction and my water is now clear of iron.

I have been using the AP810 5 micron filters for 10 years. No trace of sediment in our system and it catches a fine clay like sludge. I can usually flush the filter out a couple times and keep using it. They do fail though if you keep doing this so I don''t push it beyond a couple rinses. Your mileage is going to vary but I get 6 months between flushes even on a a new will that had significant initial sediment. Flow will reduce a bit once the sediment creeps up to the canister to about half way, but the flow is still useable at that point. This is when I usually flush it out.

I purchased the plastic (white) version of this at local big box home improvement store. Was not difficult to install, I did use teflon tape (I think some varieties come packaged with it, mine didn''t but I know to use it for things like this). It leaked at first. A little tightening, a little twisting and a little lining up and things are fine since. I have a generic hand-held shower head hanging off of it. Nothing major heavy but heavier than a little shower head. I use the shower attachment and don''t bang it around or anything and haven''t had any trouble yet (installed a little over a month ago). It takes a week or two until I noticed the difference for sure in skin/hair. But my hair color is definitely holding better, hair is not as schizoid and I am not feeling burned/itchy after a shower either. I think it is certainly worth the reasonable price I paid for my model and with filters lasting approx 6 months should not be an undue burden to keep using. I would recommend but I think they should include a little bit of teflon tape for people that aren''t familiar and don''t have it in the house so took off one star.

On several repeat visits he tried to get the tube to seat down in the body but it never would stay. I''ve stood on my countertop and pushed it with all my weight, but the gaskets just roll up and out of their grooves, preventing a good seat. Hence it wobbles and it leaks badly when turned on. Yes, I used to have to buy those overpriced, German coffee makers--but not any more. When my latest $100 coffee maker started leaking from both the underside and from the little, unreadable, glass tube on the side, I started looking around for a replacement.

I settled on this Black and Decker model because it does everything the high-priced models do, but at a quarter of the price. After three weeks, the clock still keeps excellent time, the machine still comes on when I''m sound asleep so that I wake up to coffee ready to drink. The coffee tastes very good (c''mon, drip coffee is drip coffee--and I am STILL a coffee snob) and is certainly hot enough. The coffee maker is absolutely EASY to program; each button serves but one function. Aside from the fact that it doesn''t LEAK, it seems I lose power here with disturbing regularity, so I like to be able to set the clock and the timer easily and quickly and feel assured that I''ll have coffee when I wake up.

What I don''t miss about the old coffee maker: leaks, erratic, confusing programming and multiple functions for one button, default ON for auto coffee making (and there''s no way to turn it OFF), special little (hard to find) charcoal filter gizmo, adjustable temperature settings on the hot plate, and did I mention LEAKS.

What I miss about the old coffee maker: ability to change length of time the hot plate stays hot, "CALC" calcium warning. Both of which are easy to overcome. If I want two more hours of hot plate all I do is hit the "power" button; if I want to decalcify my machine, all I have to do is run a load of vinegar through on the solstices and equinoxes.

I picked out this coffee maker because of a reasonable price and was a recommended best buy in Consumers Report magazine. I have only had a week or so and can''t address long term reliability. What it does do is NOT DRIP! It does not drip when pouring from the glass pot to the water reservoir or when pouring coffee into a cup. I do NOT have to be extra careful when pouring. It also stops the coffee flow from the filter as soon as I pull the pot out and does NOT drip on the warmer. Again, do NOT have to be extra careful here. It also does NOT leak condensation out of the water reservoir top when lifting the lid. The condensation on the reservoir lid drips back into the reservoir when the lid is lifted. The time and delay brew functions ARE easy to set and work fine. The coffee brewed fairly quickly and did not overflow the filter to allow grounds into the pot. So far, I am very happy with a product that someone spent some time making user friendly and practical. This is a well engineered inexpensive product.

I purchased this model over 10 years ago. It looks a lot like the new one except they have updated the lines. I just purchased the new model because after 10 years the hot pad only keeps the coffee warm and not hot but the first cup is always hot. Every feature still works on this machine except for the stop brew, to pour when brewing. That is because we removed it since we have broke several carafes over the years. Bought this maker to replace another one of the same that the keypad died on. We had this one for 9 months and it suddenly stopped brewing. Luckily, I had the receipt so I called Black and Decker and they told me to cut off the plug and mail it to them with a check for $7.50 and they''ll send a replacement in 2 weeks. (Obviously if you don''t already *have* at least 20gpm, using this filter won''t increase your water flow. It just won''t drop it below 20gpm.) Our 80psi water pressure has not suffered, either, from what we can tell.

You can maintain an even higher water flow if you choose the particulate-only filter (AP810-2, link above), but it''s not worth it for us. We wanted the chlorine to be filtered, too, and our water flow has not suffered.

We have to change the filter cartridge every 6 to 12 months, but at $50/pop, that''s acceptable.

The Aqua-Pure system is inexpensive. It was originally made by a company called Cuno which got bought by 3M. We''ve been very pleased with 3M products in the past, so we had confidence of the brand. And so far, it''s been everything we hoped for. The water tastes great, and there''s no chlorine smell, and no more clogging up of our faucets.

Up to this last Beckett purchase I was a great fan of their products, I have three ponds, all three have has Beckett pumps running 24/7 four over six years without problems. I have several ponds for 12 yrs. now and have had Beckett pumps that lasted for yrs.. This is simply a piece of junk. The foam filters just "sit" on top of the intake tube. There isn''t anyway to lock them in place so mine float right off. I have to hold them in place w/a large flat rock sitting on top to hold them down. Then there is the 400gph. That is a very questionable figure as it doesn''t pump as much as my 300gph does and is all but powerless. I wouldn''t recommend this to anyone. I have had it for a few months so I don''t know how long it will last but I don''t believe long as it seems to pump less and less. If it dies over winter my fish will die. I might just head off trouble and quickly replace it before winter gets here.POS................

This is one of my "must have" cleaners. I use it in the laundry with extra dirty or stinky stuff (I have two dogs). I even use it with heavier towels that take a long time to dry and smell "stale" easily. I use it to wash my shower liner and it comes out smelling great!

I also use it on hard floors, in the bathroom, in the kitchen, and as an air/carpet/upholstery/curtain freshener. (They always say to test a small area on carpets/fabrics.)

After a severe house fire all our clothing, drapes and other items had severe smoke odor. we were told we''d probably have to throw everything out. A Red Cross worker told us about this product and we gave it a try. We used the Triple Loaders at the laundromat (because they have extractors and are more effective than most home washers). My wife and I recently moved to Utah from Georgia. We brought along our dog and cat. The same cat we had never had problems with before all of a sudden started spraying all over the basement. He''s neutered so we knew that wasn''t the problem. The best we can figure is that it was the stress of a new place. Everything from Nature''s Miracle to Anti-Icky Poo. We bought a carpet shampooer, we pulled up the carpet and sprayed the pad, underside and carpet with them. We ran the carpet steamer. We tried leaving the enzymatic and bacterial cleaners in the carpet and kept it damp to let the bacteria do their thing. All to no avail!

I remembered a product I used to see back home in Georgia called Odoban, and while I was in Home Depot I noticed they had it in the gallon size w/ a spray bottle for $10. I had told myself if this didn''t work I would have to bring in a professional steam cleaner. I couldn''t have my first new home smelling like this!

The internal tank has an independent thermostat and heating element. Once the unit is heated up, It will operate once (3-4 mins)/1.52 Hours.

During this hearing stage, the machine will use around 1500 Watts of power.

The independently switch hotplate draws about 50Watts.

Keep in mind, the BUNN has no water pump, so once it starts to brew, the water is gravity fed into the pot.

We are energy conscious, and have placed the BUNN on an appliance timer; turning in on at 4am, and off at 8pm.

Heat up from cold water takes about 20 minutes.

I can''t really comment on the quality of the coffee this machine makes as someone I know purchased this thing for their home. But they made a trial batch and it seemed to be very good. The instructions are mildly confusing as there is no off switch. The way this machine works is that you leave it *unplugged* the first time you fill it. You fill it with 2 & 1/2 carafes of cold water. 1/2 will "spill" out as per the instructions. *Then* you plug it in. When you''re ready to make coffee setup your grounds, filter and whatnot. Then pour a carafe of cold water into the top. Put your empty carafe on the warmer plate really fast and water will flow out almost immediately, the coffee is done in a couple of minutes, it''s really fast.

The reason there is no ON or OFF switch because the "initial" reservoir is kept warm in the machine at all times and the machine just sits there 24/7 happily keeping the reservoir water warm until you''re ready to use it. When you put a fresh carafe of cold water in the unit the cold water is mixed with the rest of the water in the tank. As the tank can only "store" 2 carafes of water the coffee maker is "activated" (when it senses that the water temp has dropped or displaced or something,) the water is then re-heated to the proper temperature and it just makes coffee. The cold water is the switch (to make coffee.) I have no idea if you can make less than 1 carafe of coffee.

The warmer plate switch (red switch) does not need to be on to make coffee as it seems to work independently of the coffee making part. ie) It''s just a switch for the warming plate. That''s all it does.

I purchased a bigger model for the office, and made the mistake of ordering the Plastic/metal pots for that product. They are hard to clean though hard to break. With this product for home I purchased glass pots. I would recommend the glass pots for this product. They are well made of treated glass and made in Germany. If you break them, it''s easy to order another. They are much easier to clean and safe to put in the dishwasher. I Got two pots for insurance.

Las Vegas water from the tap is hard and nasty tasting, and as usual, our local gov''t forces us to consume something we don''t want (fluoride) "for our own good". I''d used a number of different water filtering systems but until recently figured I just had to live with the fluoride in my water, the Berkey addresses fluoride and while a bit pricey, I decided to give it a try. The unit arrived in excellent condition and with concise instructions, though I did have to look up via google tips on how to keep the spigot from leaking. Set up took 20 minutes, mostly due to having to prime the fluoride filters with some pressurized water running through them for a minimum of 5 minutes each, took me a little bit to gauge how much water pressure to use effectively. I filled the tank before I went to bed and by morning when I got up about 2/3rds of the water had been filtered. The water was flat out yummy, and the coffee I brewed with my coffee press never tasted so good.

But I was cautious about my reaction being partially psychological, so I did a little experiment. Taking 6 clear bottles and labelling them as to their water source, I filled each to 1/3 and 2/3 level, 2 from the tap, 2 from the Berkery and 2 from the refrigerator''s water dispenser which has its own filter. Popped them in the freezer and upon returning from work the water in all 6 bottles was frozen solid. The difference in the ice''s appearance was striking; the tap water ice was completely opaque and milky in appearance, the water from the refrigerator''s tap was also noticeably cloudy though it at least had a clear outer shell of about 1 cm before cloudiness started to form. The bottles with the Berkey water was almost crystal clear except for a slender streak in the very center. So why do this? When water begins to freeze, a thin layer of ice starts to form the outside going in. This is made from pure water as pure water freezes quicker than impure water. The pure water becomes solid while the minerals and gases are still in a solution state. The rest of the liquid freezes slowly from the outside to inside. The centre of an ice cube is what freezes last. My primitive experiment was to see how much gas and sediment I could see with the naked eye, but to rule out the gas I let all 6 bottles thaw completely over the course of the evening and poured their contents into separate glasses, the water from the Berkey source was completely clear, while the tap water source had a visible and copious amount of sediment floating in the glass; the water from the fridge''s tap contained less sediment than tap but still had enough to be unappealing. One cannot see pathogens or other such things with the naked eye, but for me this was enough proof that it wasn''t just my imagination of the water tasting better after being filtered from the Berkey, its clarity with this primitive test reinforced my belief that crud was being filtered out, be that calcium or whatever else.

Finally, when you factor in how much filtered water costs with a Berkey vs other sources, to me it was a slam dunk choice. Honestly, the taste alone is sufficient and I''ve had friends comment on how good my water tastes compared to what they''re used to. A more unpleasant reason is that while I''m filtering tap water, one never knows if disaster of some sort won''t strike, with my Berkey I can use just about any water source, give it some time, and have fresh water to drink, and that''s something that grants significant peace of mind.
