Replacement Filter Liners for Acme and Omega Centrifugal Juicers

Replacement Filter Liners for Acme and Omega Centrifugal Juicers - 3X 200 PACKSIf I juice without using these filters, my Acme juicer needs a labor-intensive cleaning to get the pulp out of the holes in the basket. The filters encircle the juicing compartment and adhere to the basket. After juicing, simply remove and discard the filter. Once, I ran out of filters and couldn''t find them in stores. I didn''t use my juicer for years until I found them at Amazon.

These filters, are not like the original. I got a package of filters with my Acme juicerator, and thought I was ordering the same thing when I ordered these "paper" filter replacements. The original lapped a little when installed, enough to completely cover the inside of the blade basket, and keep the pulp from sticking in the basket. These are 3/4" shorter, and barely meet, so there may still be some pulp that gets on the basket, and is a pain when it comes to cleanup. The other thing is these are NOT paper, like the old ones were. I put a match to one, just to prove it, and it did not burn like paper, but melted like plastic. Poor design, and poor quality.... and not an acceptable replacement for the original REAL paper filters. Disappointed here, but stuck with no other options for filters that I can find.

These liners dramatically shorten cleanup time after juicing. They act much like a coffee filter, so ground pulp doesn''t get trapped in the metal mesh of the juicer.

I bought a Waring Acme juicer, now sold as Acme juicer, decades ago. The filters which line the pulp collection chamber have saved me hours and hours of cleanup, and they are not expensive. I recently saw the Acme juicer for sale in a kitchen store and asked about the filters. They had never heard of them. Believe me, they are worth hearing about.

Brita Pitcher Replacement Filter (Pack Of 2)

Brita Pitcher Replacement FilterThese are nice and work well. Not much else to say about this the water tastes good and they fit well.

Brita may not be the best filter system around but it works for what I''m using it for. Both filters came in the OEM packaging. For the reviews complaining about "black stuff" being in their filtered water......that is NORMAL for the initial use of most charcoal filters. It''s not going to kill you, actual charcoal pills are available for human consumption. Even Jack Daniel''s Whiskey has bit of charcoal in it occasionally!

Wow! This is a great product. I had a Sprite shower filter in the past but because it was made from plastic it eventually broke. I stared looking for one made of metal but figured since everything is going to cheap plastic these days I would never find one. Surprise! This one was the answer. It is solid brass and will last a lifetime for sure. I also like the fact that I can go to my local home improvement store and pick up a replacement filter cartridge for under $10. The initial cost of the filter is a little pricey but hey if I never need to buy another one the rest of my life it was well worth the investment.

When the plastic filter of this design split open suddenly after about 14 months of service I still had two new filter cartridges so I opted to buy this brass filter housing to ensure a longer service life. So far no problems. What I don''t like about these filters is that they are difficult to open to change cartridges.

Bona Pro Series Wm700051188 Stone

Bona Pro Series Wm700051188 Stone, Tile and Laminate Cleaner Ready To Use, 32-Ounce SprayWe''ve used Bona on our kitchen''s Pergo floor for several years and are pleased with its performance. To apply the cleaner we either use a dry Swiffer pad or a soft cloth. I prefer cleaning the floor the old fashioned way, on my knees and with a soft cloth turned often. After being cleaned the floor has a nice, soft sheen.

I''ve also used the Bona on my ceramic tile bathroom floor on occasion. It makes the tile sparkle without making it slippery.

The Bona formula is non toxic but can cause stomach irritation. I haven''t personally tried drinking any Bona, so I will take the manufacturer''s word about the stomach irritation.

The price for the cleaner on Amazon from this vendor is as good or better than any local seller''s in Spudland.

Works great on laminate floors. Leaves my floors super clean, shiny & streak free. Also love that it''s pet safe.

The replacement cartridge came with clear instructions for removal of the original cartridge and installation of the replacement. One extra step that I had to add myself to avoid leaks was to apply some Dow Corning 111 valve lubricant and sealant to the O-ring (it is safe for plastics and rubber) prior to installing the new cartridge. So far there have been no leaks.

A couple of cautions -when releasing the water pressure via the valve on top of the housing it helps to put a towel on the housing, to avoid spraying yourself and the walls with water. Also, when removing the bottom portion of the housing there will be a water spill, so have something ready below to catch it, and roll up your sleeves otherwise they will be wet.

KOHLER K-965-AK-CP Purist Single Function Katalyst Showerhead Save 25% Off

KOHLER K-965-AK-CP Purist Single Function Katalyst Showerhead, Polished Chrome
  • Optimized sprayface features a new nozzle geometry that delivers a more focused coverage of large water droplets that both minimizes wasteful overspray and increases cleaning and hair rinsing performance
  • Strong, geometric lines offer contemporary appeal
  • MasterClean sprayface resists hard water buildup and is easy to clean
  • Air-induction technology maximizes the air/water mix for a powerful, even flow

The first time I ordered one of these, I loved the full body spray pattern. It''s really luxurious.

However the water pressure when limited to 2.5gpm is not sufficient to provide a good shower given the fact that this thing has 72 sprays. There was no obvious way to remove the 2.5gpm flow restrictor, and when I called Kohler, they said it was fixed and couldn''t be removed, so I sent it back.

I then did some research, and figured out how to solve the problem. You can remove the water filter (metal gauze with black ring around it), then you will see the permanent water filter (a green disk). You can then take a power drill and drill through the green disk to create a free flow of water. Use a vacuum to make sure you get all the debris out to prevent it clogging the head.

After this modification, I tried the shower head and the spray was stronger. The shower now was one of the best I have had, and certainly the strongest given the water pressure in most modern houses.

After modification this shower head delivers, a strong, luxurious and full body spray that will leave you satisfied. A great product, that requires small modfication due to our big brother government.

I recently finished remodeling my shower area and removed the 1960''s plastic wall tiles to then put up ceramic tiles. I wanted to keep the existing Kohler fixtures for hot and cold and also the faucet because they were solidly built and quite hefty because of the metal construction with chrome finish. The faucet outlet must weight at least 5 pounds! However, I wanted to update and upgrade the showerhead.

In my search for a new showerhead to go well with my tile color (a sort of streak lined marbled black) I knew I wanted to stay with Kohler...but the design had to be basic to go with my 1960ish era fixtures.....and this model fit the bill!

The only reason why I rated it four stars instead of 5 is because I was under the assumption it would be of metal construction with a chrome finish. I guess because of potential weight issues hanging off the shower arm, a larger faced shower head cannot be 100%solid metal...but at least the chrome ring or something could be metal to give the impression of a piece which doesn''t feel so fragile when moving it? Please forgive my ignorance on the matter on what things cost now a day or what key words I should be entering into my search to ensure the showerhead would be of all metal construction. This unit is a chrome finished plastic.

...a great looking... chrome finished plastic :)

Honeywell QuietCare PermaFilter Humidifier Save 7% Off

Honeywell QuietCare PermaFilter Humidifier, HCM-800After years of replacing cool-mist filters, I wanted to try a humidifier with a so-called permanent filter. The noise is not really any more bothersome than other cool-mist humidifiers on the market. The problem with this product is the filter system. For the first month or so, I was able to keep the filter clean per the product instructions. But then, as with all cool mist humidifiers, the filter accumulates dust from the air intake and other mineral deposits. Unfortunately, it is absoultely impossible to clean the deposits and debris out of the interior wicking of the filter. The manufacturer''s instructions say (in fact warn) only to clean the unit using vinegar...well, that method only works for some of the mineral deposits for the first 4 weeks or so. Plus, even with the vinegar method, you can''t get the particles washed out of the interior of the filter! So after 3 months, the perma-filter doesn''t retain sufficient moisture to effectively humidify the air. You are better off buying a regular cool-mist humidifier with a filter that can be replaced every few months. It will save you time, money and frustration. I have never written a review of any product before but this product is so poor that I felt compelled to do so at this time and warn others not to make the same mistake I made. This is truly one of the worst products I have ever purchased.

We bought 3 of these humidifiers last year for all our bedrooms. Even though it was a big chunk of money, I was tired of continually having to buy replacement disposable filters for our previous humidifiers (Holmes). Three at a time got expensive!

We were so excited to use our Honeywell humidifiers, and they worked like a dream. During the winter our kids had serious coughs, and we could adjust the humidity output to make the room extremely humid for them, and keep it at a medium level for ourselves. They worked wonderfully, and I was 100% satisfied.

As time went on, I realized cleanning them was quite a chore, and using vinegar (to remove hardwater buildup) did nothing for the moldy smell. Rather than use the 1tsp of bleach (recommended), I found I had to use at least 1 cup to get rid of the mildew smell. After cleanning the filters like this about 6 times, they became quite degenerated, and no longer held enough water to get moisture adequately into the air.

Frustrated, I (then) read reviews and heard you could not buy replacement filters. However, I decided to call Honeywell myself, since I couldn''t bring myself to throw away 3 expensive humidifiers. I called Honeywell''s Customer Care (1-800-554-4558) and found out you CAN buy replacement filters, at $24.99 each, with 6.95 shipping (for any size order).

Despite the filter issue, my overall opinion is that these are still terrific humidifiers, and I''m glad to continue using ours. However, beware that the filter will not last the life of the machine even though it''s considered to be a "permanent" filter. Going forward, I''m going to be sure to stay on top of cleanning mine out (at least every 2-3 weeks), in order to be able to use less bleach and extend the filter life.

Even if I do have to replace the filters every year or 2, in the long run it''s still alot cheaper than buying disposable ones monthly. And you''ll enjoy a very nice humidifier (with multiple humidity settings) in the process.

Buy Honeywell QuietCare PermaFilter Humidifier Now

I purchased this product at a retail store recently and overall I think it''s great. I was concerned about a line in the manual that said to discard the filter at the end of the season, but when I contacted Kaz / honeywell about it, they said it was a misprint and with proper care the filter will last for the life of the product. Makes sense since that''s what is advertised on the box! They got back to me quickly, too.

The machine is not silent, it''s got a fan on it which to me provides some nice white noise to block out odd noises that might bother my sleep. It obviously puts out a lot of moisture because I have to refill the tank once a day, and that does as well as the crappy old vicks vaporizers that I used to use...those things were terrible. They made boiling bubbly noises and started to spit when they got old. 65 bucks for the Honeywell isn''t cheap (not to me anyway) but the cost was worth it so far. I haven''t had it very long yet so we''ll have to wait and see how it does in the long term.

Almost forgotthere is a dial control for humidity level; the window is green when the humidity is right, and blue when the humidity doesn''t match the setting on the machine. It amounts to a nice night light since I don''t know or care how it functions; I just leave it on high all the time.

Ok, so here is the straight dope on the filters.

Basically, this unit operates under the same principle as a whole-house humidifier you would find in a forced-air heating system. So the "filter" is the same thing as a humidifier pad. The HCM 800, since it is self-contained, just uses its own blower, and the unevaporated water coming off the pad (filter) is recycled, rather than sent down the drain. So it is a given that you will get some amount of scaling throughout the system, and mold, etc., on the humidifier pad, just like in a whole-house unit.

I wouldn''t try cleaning and then reusing the pad in a whole-house humidifier, and I wouldn''t try do the same with the pad in these, either.

The good news, though, is that replacement humidifier pads are readily available, and cheap. For this unit, just get (for example) a HC22P humidifier pad, cut it down to size (about 6x9) and stick it in the plastic housing where the old pad came out. The pads are flexible when they are wet and are easily taken out and installed without damaging the rest of the unit. The HC22P is about $9 at Home Depot. You could get a bigger replacement pad and cut it into several replacements for the HCM 800 if you wanted to get it even cheaper. They cut adequately with a scissors, if you don''t have a band saw handy.

Overall, the buildup on the HCM 800 isn''t appreciably nastier than what you find in a lot of whole-house units, when they get serviced. Ok, those are pretty nasty, sure, but that is the price you pay if you want to avoid the fine mineral dust of a piezoelectric mist unit. Nobody gets humidified air without paying some sort of a price.

  • Three Stages of filtration in 20" housings
  • Removes a wide range of contaminants, including Sediment, Chlorine and Organic chemicals
  • 1" inlet/outlet for big flow with NEW all-metal fittings!!!
  • Pressure Release Button for fast release of the whole house water filter pressure
  • Standard replacement cartridges 2.5" x 20" (one set of three is already included: 1 Sediment + 1 GAC Carbon + 1 CTO Carbon).

This filter is a good idea and fairly priced, however the fittings that thread into each end are poorly manufactured and thought out. The 1" NPT pipe fitting has to be screwed in to rubber washers on each end, no the directions don''t say this there are no directions included, after several trial and error attempts I found one side needed two washers and the other side needed three, there were five washers included. The supplied fittings are for 1" NPT fittings to be threaded in, I used PEX fittings with teflon tape and they both leaked. No amount of tightening would stop the leaks, they were really tight too. I finally took them out, cleaned off the tape and put red Loctite on them and let them dry over night, problem solved, no leaks at the fittings. I already had to replace one of the O rings on the filter as is was cut from the factory, I found the bad O ring before I Installed the filters after taking their wrappers off. There isn''t anything to hold them in place and you have to very carefull they don''t slip out of place when you screw the cartridge back on. The filter seems to work fine, but it''s like a lot of stuff from China, second rate. You can make it work if you really want to. I think I''d pass next time though.

Once I got this product installed I really like it regarding water quality. The assembly instructions were very bad and there were extra washers in the pack that we didn''t know what to do with. My buddy has been a plumber for many years and we continued to agree and disagree on what to do with the extra washers etc. We threaded it on several times with two washer and then with one until we settled on what we felt would work... we were lucky and the unit did not leak so I feel we guessed accurately. Putting this thing together should be a very easy thing to do without much previous knowledge. The lack of directions and extra parts actually made it worse. If we had used our common sense rather than try to follow directions it would have been done much sooner... that all being said the worse thing about this product is installing the filters. You have to line the filter up with the center bottom of the glass tube and the center of the base unit... when you thread the glass tube up inside the unit the filter falls to one side forcing it to be not aligned... It takes about 10-15 trys per filter to get it to sit in the center and thread the bowl on... about put me over the edge. I guess I will have to deal with that every six months. My friend has more patience than me and that helped. You might need a six pack to calm your nerves first.

Bottom line,

1) very poor directions

2) Extra parts you end up needing after throwing away directions and doing it the way you feel best.

3) Filter alignment issues that will make you crazy.

4) Very good price

5) Very good water

It only took us a couple of hours to install. Had to redirect plumbing and add shutoff valves on both sides plus I added a bypass valve to eliminate if I didnt like it. Wish my outside hose bibs were on separate lines. They were not in my house so I have filtered water to clean cars and water garden... not best case and will eventually rerun these lines. If building a new house make sure those lines outside hose bibs are dedicated lines so you can separate them and only filter inside water.

Once it is installed you only have to deal with it every six months. Invite a patient friend over for a beer.

Replaced a whole house humidifier pad that had been in my Honeywell HE265B for about two years. This pad is easy to install but it will be made of plastic and seem a little less robust than the aluminum pad that you may be replacing. The recommendation is to change the filter twice a heating season so this may be a more cost effective alternative than its aluminum alternative HC26E1004.

Soleus Air PH3-12R-03, Portable Air Conditioner/Heater/Dehumidifier/Fan Save 46% Off

Soleus Air PH3-12R-03, Portable Air Conditioner/Heater/Dehumidifier/Fan, 12,000 BTUsDespite all the negative reviews of this unit on Amazon.com, I found several other positive reviews elsewhere on the internet, and so I decided to give it a try. I''ll admit I was skeptical as to how this unit would perform, especially since it seemed to be much less expensive than other 12,000 BTU units AND it included heat pump functionality. That being said, I am quite pleased with its performance so far.

After the terrible process of having to return a damaged portable AC unit of another brand just a week earlier, I was relieved to see when this one arrived at my door in rather robust packaging. Lifting it out of its "easy open" outer box and inner cardboard crate, I was able to observe its features in person for the first time. The multi-color display is a nice touch; the bright VFD display provides simple animations of the unit''s current function, as well as a basic clock (used for setting the on/off timer), and the current temperature setting. The remote control sits in a holster on the back of the unit. I found the remote to be a bit bland, with all the buttons but the power button the same size and no distinction of the most frequently used buttons (i.e. temperature, mode) from the less frequently used extras (i.e. sleep mode, Celsius/Fahrenheit setting). The use of the remote is limited anyways since the display on the unit sits facing upward, preventing you from seeing what you are doing unless you are hovering above it.

Installation is pretty straightforward. The user''s manual includes several photographs of the installation process, which doesn''t differ much from any single-hose portable AC on the market. You simply screw the hose into the adapters and attach the adapters onto the back of the unit and onto the adjustable panel which you close in your window.

So now the important part: how it works. I found the unit to perform quite well. The AC function is plenty cool, and with three fan settings, you can adjust the level of output (and noise) to the current conditions. The heat pump also works well, and I was impressed with the fact that the unit waits to start blowing air into the room until the heat pump has begun generating warm air. That way, on a cold winter''s day you won''t get a rush of cold air in your face while the unit starts up. After your set temperature is reached, the unit shuts down completely (including the fan). Perhaps handy for some people is an auto mode which automatically heats if the temperature is below 68°F, dehumidifies if the temperature is between 68°F and 80°F, and cools if over 80°F. There also is an oscillation feature which helps circulate the air into the room.

As others have said, this AC unit is not super quiet. While in fan-only mode, the noise is minimal, but while heating, cooling, or dehumidifying, the exhaust fan in the back of the unit adds a considerable amount more. While nobody will be fooled into thinking a jet is landing, some may find it difficult to sleep with the unit in the room if it is doing anything but circulating air.

Just another quick note about draining the water bucket... be prepared to empty it no less often than most air conditioning units, regardless of what the manufacturer claims it can evaporate through the hose. I also agree with others who have said that the drainage plug is really close to the ground, so you may want to place it on a hard surface or elevate it slightly to assist in the drainage process. You do get a short hose and drip pan in the box to help you empty the moisture into a larger pan, but you may want to keep a towel handy as well.

Overall, this air conditioner/heat pump unit is a economical choice if you need all-season comfort in an area of your home. Various room-size estimations abound, some even rating this unit up to 500 sq. ft. My suggestion is that you use this unit for no more than a single large room, as you will probably see much worse performance if you try to heat or cool an entire floor with it. But for supplemental heating or cooling, you really cannot go wrong with the Soleus Air PH3-12R-03.

Got this unit today and for some reason the unit itself was covered in grease, something like a motor oil.

Anyway, set it up and powered on, after 2 hr running, the unit was blow AIR only even on COLD mode.

Called Amazon to get unit return and they told me I will have to pay $60 $80 return shipping charge for defective unit.

I will never buy and electric unit from Amazon again. I never have any problem to get full refund from other online retailer.

I just bought this 3 weeks ago. After numerous window units I thought I would try a portable unit so I could direct the air where I wanted it. First of all this unit was difficult to install. The directions were terrible. I have had a lot less problem with my previous window units. 12,000 BTU''s should cool my entire living/dining room. It works okay if you are directly in front of it, but 8-10 feet away just so so. It is as loud as any window unit I have had. It does not cool down to lowest temp so compressor is always on. After running it quite a bit for three days I just had to drain the condensation holding tank which was an experience in and of itself! The plug is on the bottom about a half inch from the floor. It is below the hose so you have to remove that. When you remove the cap, there is no type of plug, so the water immediately begins pouring into the pitiful plastic drainage tray that is provided that holds about 1/2 cup at the most. With a 1.5 liter tank to drain you need to also have a bucket or a bowl and plenty of towels as I found it impossible to stop the flow trying to empty the tray of water into the bucket. Long story short, don''t waste your money. Way to expensive for the hassle. I''m going to go have a beer and make up with my dogs who are quivering outside after hearing my yelling of obscenities during the drainage process.

This air conditioner/heater/dehumidifier is highly overrated by the manufacturer. 12,000 BTU should make your home feel like a refrigerator. It doesn''t! It doesn''t come close to the air cooling capacity of window units with less than half this rating. The drainage outlet is located way too close to the floor thereby not allowing for a hose to drain properly without elevating the unit. While there is a condensation overflow tank drainage again is an issue. I ran the unit for a solid eight hours at the lowest temperature setting/highest fan speed and the first floor of my small home was only marginally cooler. I was very disappointed as I had hoped this was the answer to both my cooling and heating needs.

I have a wonderful RO system, but they installed a chrome faucet, and everything else I have is black. So, when it was time to replace my sink faucet, I shopped for a black RO faucet too. NOTHING at Home Depot or any of the other home repair stores in black. Found this here on Amazon. There was a "air gap faucet" and a "non air gap faucet". Now what''s the difference? I have no idea! I called my plumber, he said all I needed was a 1/4 inch line that went to the faucet. It''s odd because when I spoke to the plumbing supply, they told me I needed a "special" RO replacement faucet that cost $200.00. Really?? So I went without replacing it for a long time. I bought this one instead of the more expensive air gap one since my plumber only said I needed a 1/4 inch line. He installed it, and it couldn''t be nicer. Works perfect. So, if you want to replace a RO faucet, this is the one!!! No need for a $200.00 faucet. I didn''t have any of the problems I read about on other reviews since I would never mess around fixing my own plumbing. I hire a plumber!! My sanity is more important than the few dollars the plumber charges since he was doing other things at the same time. It is a gloss finish, not matt. I couldn''t find that anywhere in the description.

Cerama Bryte Stainless Steel Cleaning Polish

Cerama Bryte Stainless Steel Cleaning PolishI''ve been using this stainless steel cleaner for a while now and though I have tried many other brands, this is by far the best. It does not leave any streaks and is not as expensive as some others I have tried. One tip though I recently finished using my last bottle (I usually buy these several at a time) and purchased a couple more from Amazon and to my dismay, found that the new bottle left horrible streaks. I called the 1-800 number to complain and to ask if they had changed their formula. Their suggestion was to shake the bottle really well and instead of using the spray nozzle, to pour a little bit of the cleaner on a cloth/paper towel. The explanation was that sometimes the mineral oil separates from the cleaner and that is when the streaks appear, and also that spraying is not the optimal way to dispense this kind of cleaner. I tried this and the cleaner worked just as well as I remembered.

I place considerable weight on Amazon reviews when looking for a product and since this one got such glowing reviews, decided to give it a try. I have a stainless dishwasher, microwave, double oven (all from KitchenAid), and a Samsung stainless refrigerator. After running out of the thick past like KitchenAid polish (the original type in the black bottle) I started trying alternatives and after several disappointments, tried Cerama Bryte Stainless Steel Polish & Conditioner. I had high expectations with 4.5 stars from Amazon, but what a letdown. It streaks like all the others. I tried it on all the mentioned appliances, follow the instructions carefully and it left nasty streaks that where hard to remove.

Well, I then did some more experimenting. I tried the old tried and true WD40 that I used years ago on my stainless sink. That worked much better than the Cerama Bryte Stainless Steel Polish & Conditioner, but while doing some other cleaning and using a product called Desolv-it, the citrus smell reminded me of the original paste like KitchenAid polish that worked so well. I decided to try it on the lower section of the refrigerator, and presto! It works wonderfully. YES Desol-it worked wonderfully as a polish. I did all my appliances and my wife was blown away at the results. Obsessed with getting the perfect polish, I then decided to order some of the new KitchenAid polish to give it a try (I had read that they changed the formula). Once arrived, I tried it out. It still has the citrus smell, but seems to be watered down. The old formula was the consistency of apple sauce, and the new formula is like water. But it worked very well. It''s definitely a contender.

So the conclusion of the race for the best polish after trying many and being satisfied with only the a few:

1) KitchenAid and Desolv-It are the absolute best. They are simple to apply, require little buffing, and you will get a amazing polish that lasts for weeks.

2) WD40 is next on my list. Works great, but not quite as good as above (and may be more toxic).

3)Cerama Bryte Stainless Steel Polish just doesn''t measure up. Can''t imagine why anyone would really like it. My partially used bottle went in the trash.

I agree with all the other positive reviews here! This is the only polish that doesn''t leave streaks. I searched on-line to find it because I am about to run out of the sample that came with our refrigerator. I have not found another brand that works as good as this one and have tried many.

This is the only one that I have found that works for stainless appliances. It does not leave streaks. In general, I would say that if you have younger children, don''t buy stainless appliances! But whether or not you have kids, this product is the only one I have found that doesn''t drive me crazy trying to get the streaks to disappear. Love it!

Update (several years later): I have been using this product for years but the formula seems to have changed for some reason. It came to me this time in a spray bottly and DEFINITELY is leaving streaks and not working as well as the old formula. Very disappointing! I''m on the hunt for a new product! 3 STARS!

Black & Decker DCM600B 5-Cup Coffeemaker Save 11% Off

Black & Decker DCM600B 5-Cup Coffeemaker, BlackThis Black and Decker 5 cup coffee maker is one of the best I have used. With a clean, uncluttered design, it compliments my kitchen, without taking up a lot of counter space. Simple switch on operation, ease of cleaning, and drip free pouring, helps to make this coffee maker very easy to use, and maintain. The coffee is hot, and the warmer plate keeps it hot. The capacity is for five cups (6 ounces), but since I use a larger mug, I get three servings to a pot. I would highly recommend this product.

In a world where everything seems to be a complex computer controlled wonder, bluetooth this, facebook that, timer whatsits, and e/i-whatevers, this machine stands out. Why? Because its a $17 coffee maker, it does nothing special other than make coffee. Guess what, it makes coffee.

Seriously, the most complex thing about its interface it the switch lights up when its on. It couldn''t get any simpler, your favorite coffee grinds plus water, wait 5 minutes, and blammo coffee, and it costs less than $20. I would call this thing the greatest piece of technology ever, but that''s unnecessary and ridiculous, for its a coffee maker, and all it does is make coffee.

To be fair, the plastic feels cheap, but I''m not taking this thing with me to the moon. I just expect it to make coffee and not try to kill me, which it does.

Do you need coffee from the comfort of wherever you are? Don''t want to spend $40 for bells and whistles you''re never going to use? You can''t go wrong with this gem, for it is a coffee maker, and it makes coffee.

I am very impressed with this little coffee maker. I''m a self-proclaimed coffee snob who usually presses coffee in the morning. I wanted something quicker and only for a few cups. This coffee maker totally fits the bill. I have a small spot on the counter that it fits into perfectly. The lid even opens and does not interfere with the cabinets like a 12-cup maker might. I make 2 or 3 cups in the morning and it tastes great. I cleaned it upon purchasing and ran a few batches of plain water through it. The coffee coming out tastes great. I attribute it to the water head that evenly spreads water over the grounds. Its not like some units that have one spout for water, this has multiple openings.

For $15 to $20 you can''t go wrong.

Prior to owning this coffee machine I had a 4 cup Mr Coffee. Needless to say a disaster. The pot broke twice, the replacements wound up costing more than the whole machine. This B & D coffee maker brews better coffee in less time. Also its cup measurements are more realistic. I mean who uses an actual coffe cup? It''s a mug world.

I''ll have to disagree with the other reviewers on this one. I find that this is a great coffee maker for the price. I paid $16 at Target (sorry Amazon!) and it''s a great value. Although it looks like someone shrunk my previous coffee maker!

Some comments to help you decide if this one is for you:

* The basket is high enough to let me put any of my coffee mugs under it, a little under 3 cups of water fills my large starbucks mug. You won''t fit a tall travel mug in there, but that''s fine by me.

* The coffee comes out at 160 degrees Fahrenheit, so you''ll get a good hot cup of coffee.

* It has a hot plate, which I think is a waste. This coffee maker is perfect for making a mug at a time. I''d rather brew a second cup then keep a cup warm in the carafe. I absolutely hate the taste of burnt coffee that you get very quickly when you leave it on the hot plate. Although, it does act as a cup warmer while the coffee is brewing, so I may change my mind on this.

* You can see the water level in the reservoir if you''re not using a measuring cup or the carafe to measure the water.

* The carafe has water level markings that show the "extra" water you need to use to account for the water that is absorbed by the coffee grounds.

1T Bionaire Humidifier Water Treatment (32 oz.)

1T Bionaire Humidifier Water TreatmentAfter looking for a water treatment for my Humidor humidifier I found Bionaire Humidifier Water Treatment. What a difference!! I no longer have a white mist on the cigars packaging. I am very happy with the outcome since receiving and using this product. I highly recommend this product.

Up here in the Northeast, interior winter humidification significantly improves quality of life, however, many people don''t bother using one because it can be a lot of work filling and keeping the humidifier clean. We use a Bionaire that holds 6 gallons to humidify the entire house, which is not heated by forced hot air, but by steam convectors. Using this water treatment has effectively eliminated cleaning the humidifier for the entire season. Before finding this product, regular cleaning every few weeks was important to avoid a really nasty mess at the end of the season. I also use the bacteriostatic product by the same manufacturer, which works equally well.

I have used this item 1 full year, & has done as advertised. You use very little of the product in refilling the containers, using only approx. 1/6 of a bottle in a year. So, I have found it worth the money.

RSVP Compost Pail Save 13% Off

RSVP Compost PailI bought this compost pail eight months ago, and am very happy I did. I have reduced the amount of weekly trash and in combination with a composter in my postage-stamp-size backyard, have set up a system where I''m making great compost for my potted plants, my little garden, my house plants. The compost pail, which sits on my kitchen counter, is virtually odorless (I haven''t changed the filter yet--I just periodically rinse it).

The only reason I''m giving it four rather than five stars is that now, in the warmer months, it''s attracting fruit flies. Every time I lift the lid a little swarm of them (5 or 6) flies out. They fly right back in, however, for it''s Paradise Hotel for them. I don''t think the charcoal filter does anything in terms of keeping them out. I may try a bit of mosquito netting and see if that helps.

As a noveau environmentalist, I''d advise against what the other reviewer suggests: don''t use a plastic trash bag! That kind of defeats the purpose, for plastic is a big environmental problem. This pail is small and easy to clean. I just dump the scraps into my composter, then rinse the pail with water that I pour into the composter thereafter. If you''re fussy, you can wash it with a bit of dish soap in the kitchen sink. Mine, thanks to coffee grounds (worms love ''em), fruit and veggie peelings, actually never gets at all funky.

Generally it''s recommended that you not put any animal byproducts or grains in your compost--among other things, those are what usually makes things smelly and can also lead to disease or to strange things sprouting up in your soil.

I don''t know what the difference is between this brand and the Norpro but they look the same, cost the same, and this one comes with an extra filter. I like knowing that I am reducing landfill material as well as creating great compost. My food disposal doesn''t get all clogged up either. I am extremely happy with this product and have no issues with it.

Buy RSVP Compost Pail Now

This is a nice looking item but its use should depend on the volume of organic matter you produce and frequency of use.

If you cook and compost everyday or maybe even every other day, you wont need the charcoal filters because the smells will not have time to be generated. Also daily use caused screws to be loose, both handle screws and also the one on top of the lid (No locking washers!) and I lost 2 of them in the large outside bin. These screws seem impossible to replace. So it looks good, but not really practical. I use it as a nice, expensive can, lined with a plastic bag.

I had become accustom to having a bowl of scraps sit on my kitchen for several days before taking it out to the compost pile. This is a clean, stylish accent to my kitchen. I love it and would buy it again. Probably will for that matter as I think it is a great gift for friends who garden!

Want RSVP Compost Pail Discount?

I agree with other reviewers that this product does have a problem with fruit flies. Not only are they attracted to the compost and can gain access to the pail through the holes in the top, but the filters make a perfect nesting ground for the eggs. After only a few days with fruit in the pail you may notice what look like small light brown seeds on the filter. These are the eggs, which will hatch into larvae which you will then see crawling around. There will also be eggs inside the lip of the filter which are hard to remove. So while I like the looks and size, the product is actually more work to keep clean and fly free than a closed container. Yes, you can clean it constantly or microwave the fruit first, but those take more time and energy than just using a cheap plastic container with a lid.

Watts 116101 Standard Faucet Save 21% Off

Watts 116101 Standard Faucet with Air Gap, Brushed Nickel
  • Air Gap faucet to meet plumbing codes for reverse osmosis units
  • Meets all low lead NSF requirements
  • Multiple colors available for custom kitchens
  • Fits all under counter reverse osmosis water filter systems
  • Uses 1/4" Supply Tube

BEFORE YOU PURCHASE--if your old faucet is just leaking or making noise, see "maintenance" below.

QUALITY

The faucet is good quality. I used it to replace an identical one which had operated flawlessly for 20 years.

STYLE

The design is very convenient: The lever has three positions, 1) UP = open (conveniently for filling a pot), 2) closed, 3) DOWN = press-open, which is convenient for filling a glass---even with the hand you are holding the glass. Many more expensive faucets are "crank open" / "crank shut. The "giraffe neck" rotates 360 degrees, and so, if installed at the corner of a sink (or elsewhere), can fill a pot placed on the counter.

WHAT''S INCLUDED / WHAT''S NOT INCLUDED

Included: the faucet itself, hardware to install in the counter-top, and fittings to attach the blue tube to the faucet. NOT INCLUDED: any fittings to attach the 3 water tubes to the filters, drain, etc.

SUPPLIED INSTRUCTIONS

NO MEANINGFUL INSTRUCTIONS are included, and are incomplete for this faucet. The instructions printed on the box are for several different types of faucets, do NOT show you how to attach the blue tube, and do not helpfully identify the red and black tubes. If I had tried to install the faucet following the "instructions" I would have installed it wrong. Solution: Install the faucet according to the instructions which came with your water filter system, exactly as your previous faucet was installed.

INSTALLATION SUGGESTIONS

Note that you can install it as shown on the photo, or reversed with the lever toward the sink (which I think is more convenient).

Turn off the water supply to the water filter which is attached to the faucet you are replacing; open the old faucet an let it drain until no more water comes out (the same steps you''d take for replacing filters).

Blue tube: attach to the "stud" on the bottom of the faucet with the supplied fittings (nylon ferrule and compression nut)

Red tube: pre-attached, "brine input"

Black tube: pre-attached, "brine output"--i.e., waste water line to your kitchen sink drain-line

You will probably have to remove part of your osmosis system to gain access. When disconnecting your old system, label each connection you disconnect on both sides. Use a 2" to 3" strip of painter''s tape and fold it over in half to make a tab to write on (and use a permanent marker). Number the connections 1, 2, 3, etc. Remember to label BOTH sides of the connection with the SAME number (1 connects to 1, 2 connects to 2, 3 connects to 3, etc.). Disconnect as few water lines as you can. As a backup, take closeup photos with your digital camera of every connection which you plan to disconnect AFTER labeling and BEFORE disconnecting.

Preparing for installation of the new faucet. Assemble the spacer, washer, and nut on the faucet (leave about 1/2" for the thickness of your counter). Install the blue line on the faucet using the supplied hardware (a nylon ferrule and a compression nut). It is a good idea to install the fittings on the other ends of the tubes at this point (you will probably have to reuse them from your old faucet connections).

Lower the tubes through the hole in your counter-top, until the new faucet is in place. Decide on which direction you want the lever to point. From underneath, slide the "split washer" in place between the counter-top and the spacer, and tighten the nut. (You should have the right size box wrench ready--space and visibility are likely to be very tight, and it is hard to determine what the right size is blindly. Alternatively, you can use a deep socket wrench (if you have one of the right size), and install the blue tube later. Many faucet installation kits include such a socket--this one doesn''t). Note that the space may be very right---pliers or an adjustable wrench probably won''t work.

Attach the blue and red tubes to your filter system and the black tube to your sink drain. It is best not to cut the red or blue tubes, even if they are too long, because their length provides easier access to the system for maintenance (you can move the tank and/or filters temporarily without disconnecting the lines). However the black drain tub should probably be cut so the waste water flows straight to the drain, without a dip in which the waste water can collect. Ideally, the black waste line should be as short and as steep as possible. Important: if you must cut a blue or red tube, cut it with a very sharp blade (such as a utility knife with a new sharp blade), absolutely perpendicular.

FIXING LEAKS AFTER NEW INSTALLATIONS--see also "maintenance" below

After installing the new faucet, you should monitor the system for at least 12 hours for leaks--they can develop slowly. If there is a leak you can''t find, tie strips of paper kitchen towels around the tubes and place paper towels at other strategic points; check after about 15 minutes and the source of the leak should be obvious.

Although the fittings are designed to install without plumber''s thread tape, or plumber''s paste, if after reasonably tightening them, they still leak, then plumber''s pipe tape or paste will help. You can use "Plumber''s Goop" on the threads rather than traditional plumber''s pipe paste. For Goop to work best, the fittings should be dry before you assemble them. Eclectic Products Inc 3.7Oz Plumbing Goop 150011 Thread Tape & Paste

If that fails, you can use a blob of "Plumber''s Goop" on the outside of the fitting as a sealant to stop the leak. In the latter case, you MUST allow the "Plumber''s Goop" to harden for at least TWO FULL days before turning on the water to the filter/faucet. Plumber''s Goop used this way can be reinforced by embeding unwaxed dental floss in the wet glue. I sometimes use Goop as a backup on fittings that are NOT leaking, but using Goop this way can make the connection difficult or impossible to disassemble at some later time.

NOTE that a tiny leak in any part of your kitchen plumbing can easily cause hundreds (even thousands) of dollars worth of damage. A leak detector is strongly recommended. Zircon Leak Alert Electronic Water Detector, 1-Pack Such a detector warned of a leak in my hot-water-heater cabinet before irreparable damage was done.

ROUTINE NOISE

In normal operation the air-gap causes a dripping noise (usually for about 5 to 15-minutes immediately after using a quantity of water from your reverse osmosis system). If the water supplies an ice-maker, you can hear the dripping at other times. According to the Watt company, most of that noise is actually the waste water splashing into the pool of waste water in the elbow below your sink---so (according to Watt), a heavy nylon fishing line in the black waste water line leading into your sink drain and down to the elbow can minimize the noise, providing a path for the waste water to flow, but I have not tried that, because the noise doesn''t bother me. Theoretically, a sink strainer in the closed position should completely muffle the sound (but I use a simple screen instead which catches more stuff). Besides, the dripping sound is a good way to monitor that the system is working properly.

MAINTENANCE

After about 6 months of use, the black waste-water tube can become clogged with a bacterial mat. If you pay attention, there is an odd choking gurgling sound when the tube is almost clogged. When it is clogged, the waste water will leak from the faucet itself out onto your counter. Note that it is actually designed to do this, which is why instructions usually specify mounting the faucet at the edge of a sink (assuming that most of the overflow will flow into the sink). The solution is to regularly clean the black waste-water tube. The best way I''ve found is with an 18" length of "weed-whacker" cord. Detach the black tube from your sink waste-line, and feed the "weed-whacker cord" into the tube and scrub it out. If you''ve had a root-canal procedure, you know how it''s done. Note that the bacterial mat is a very nasty sludge---have an old cloth towel handy to catch the gunk. I recently purchased a "beer line brush" Draft Beer Line Hose Cleaning Brush: 3/16" diameter, which works well---the 1/4" diameter model might work better.

Since physically cleaning out the gunk the last time, I''ve been squirting a few drops of Clorox into the air-gap hole (in the faucet housing) about once a month. The following bottle, which works well for this purpose is $3 at the Container Store Nalgene Plastic Drop Bottle. A Beachcombers! 1/2 Oz & 1oz Soft Squeeze Fine Metal Tip Moroccan Blunt Needle Syringe Type Body Art Henna Tattoo Applicators, 5 Tips 4 Bottles would probably be even better. Note that on faucet and similar models, the air gap is beneath the lever, opposite the girafe neck. For access, pull the girafe neck up, and slide the lever forward (in the direction of the girafe neck). The "air gap" is the hole which contains the black plastic insert (leave the plastic insert alone, it is the tiny "faucet" where the the red water line discharges into the air gap). To reassemble, push the lever backward (in the direction of the air gap), so that the legs slide under the "T", and then push the girafe neck back into place. In the more recent models (those which are domed cylinders without the flat sides), the air gap is accessible, a hole on the back side---perhaps for the very purpose of making the air gap easier to sanitize.

LEAKING (see also "maintenance")

If the faucet leaks ONLY when you are using it (usually after 10 years or so off use), then the problem may be the o-ring seals of the "girafee neck". You can just pull the "giraffe neck" straight up, and replace the o-rings. LIGHTLY lubricate the new o-rings with silicon grease. Permatex 22058 Dielectric Tune-up Grease 3 oz. It is a good idea to dab a little bit of the silicon grease where the lever rubs against the giraffe neck to minimize wear---and for noticeable smoother operation. If you don''t happen to have a tube of silicon grease, buy one---it is terrific for rejuvenating any rubber items and for improving electrical connections---even fixing computer problems.

DON''T PANIC

Yes that nasty sewage-like sludge in the waste line is scary stuff---but the "air gap" is a separate system with only shares the faucet structure---the good water supply is entirely separate from the "air gap" system. What about the possibility of the "contamination" growing it''s way into your reverse-osmosis filter?---"theoretically" it shouldn''t get past the air gap---but you could install an "inline check valve" in the red tube to minimize the possibility. If your reverse-osmosis waste-water line did not drain into your sink-waste pipe, then your reverse-osmosis waste water line could not get contaminated by the sludge growing in the elbow in the sink-waste pipe, and would not make even "routine" noise---hint.

Buy Watts 116101 Standard Faucet Now

My original faucet lasted me nearly 7 years. It started leaking two days before Christmas and this was the only replacement I could get on short notice (Watts and Amazon were out of the other style faucet I wanted).

This comes with everything you need to install it and generally, if you follow the instructions, you can install this without professional help. I also installed our Watts 5-stage RO system. The instructions themselves aren''t great, but with some common sense, you can figure it out.

The faucet, once installed, dispenses the water quickly. If you flip the switch up, it will stay on without having to hold the switch. This is great if you need to dispense alot of water (like into a pitcher or nalgene bottle). If you flip the switch down, it dispenses as long as you hold it.

This unit is somewhat noisy. When the system is replenishing itself, you can here alot of gurgling through the air gap. It doesn''t really bother me as if I''m home, I''m not in the kitchen too much or I have the TV on so I don''t really hear it. If you are sensitive to this type of thing however, you might want to invest in another model. It seems fine for me.

After two weeks, I''ve got no leaks and it works just fine.

Received my order today, It was the correct type, a Standard 3-Tube Air Gap Faucet for RO systems. The product is of high quality and exactly the type of faucet I expected.

Just an FYI: due to the corrosive properties of RO water and the brine water traveling through the Air Gap Faucet you should expect to need to replace the Air Gap Faucet every several years, I have needed to replace mine 3 times in 13 years. I think the next time I will just replace the whole RO system.

I gave it only 4 stars because I don''t know for sure which product I actually received. The Box is labeled Watts Premier Part# 116054 which according to the Watts website is the "Brushed Stainless Steel Air Gap Faucet" however the UPC tag# 9935-"116054", also on the box, clearly says "Brushed Nickel Air Gap Faucet" which is Watts Part# 116101, since brushed Nickel and Stainless look so similar I am not sure it is going to matter. But I will update after install and let you know which item I think I actually received. Perhaps Watts sells the same faucet under two descriptions and prices.

Update: I am fairly certain the faucet I received is Stainless Steel, even though the description on the box says "Brushed Nickel" The faucet clearly does not have the same bluish hue the new Brushed Nickel kitchen faucet has.

Holmes HM1700 2-Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier

Holmes HM1700 2-Gallon Cool Mist HumidifierI''ve had this machine for a few years now and since I was getting a couple more filters, which are ridiculously easy to find on-line, I thought I would throw in my 2 cents.

Yes, the tank only lasts about a day and a half, but that is what you want with any machine in this style. The longer a filter sits in water, the quicker it will get moldy (any filter will do this sitting in water). Regularly run dry and leave running without water a couple hours to dry out the filter and it will last longer for you. I let mine run w/o water while at work and generally replace the filter once per season even though I don''t need to.

The tank is easy to fill, doesn''t drip when carrying from the sink to humidifier and is easily placed back on. While its definately not quiet, the "Low" setting provides a modest amount of background white noise to doze of and sleep comfortably (which I like). Overall I think its an excellant design.

You get what you pay for. It is great for larger rooms, but it definitely does not last anywhere near 24 hours on a fill. Its more like 8. It can be a little loud, but it does work very well, and you can immediately feel the effects.

Mine has been running 24/7 for over 4 years. Only problem is "valve" inside cap disintegrated 6-9 months ago -just be quick in flipping tank. Minor problem.

.

Am replacing with same model (fan motor wearing after running 35,000+ hours). Live in semi-arid climate, in 300+ sq ft studio apartment, need moist air due to asthma. Many people comment on "softness" of air compared to building corridor.

.

Yes, is loud. Run on high during day, low at night. You get used to it.

.

Fill 2+ times daily -morning, late afternoon, top off at bedtime. Have VERY "hard" tap water (mineral salts rich), so filters fill up with salts quickly and need replacing every 4-6 weeks (depends how much evaporation leaving salts behind).

.

Filters easy to find -Amazon or Holmes. Can request mailing list at Holmes for sales brochures on filters.

.

Best humidifier ever had (had 1 gallon to 13 gallon units). Easy to use and operate. Recommend it highly.

I loved this humidifier until I broke the tank while filling it. It was perfect for my baby''s room -it provided a lot of moisture in his room (almost tropical) and in the summer, I took the tank off and removed the filter and used the fan noise for his naps (great white noise). I am going to buy another one immediately. If you need to add humidity to a room and like white noise this one is for you -just make sure you are holding it securely when filling the tank.

This is nice looking unit. The spigot is high enough off the table that even a tall mug can fit underneath without having to tip the mug. It is easy to clean. And it seems very efficient: We use the same amount of water but less coffee than our previous coffee maker and it comes out just as strong.
