I received my item (though late, Thanks Amazon), and apparently all my research into an air cleaner has paid off. This little guy does exactly what it says and works like a charm.

Here''s why I bought it. I wanted an air cleaner for a medium to small sized room where I keep my cat''s litter box. Normally, it doesn''t smell, but about the day it''s time to change it, I can smell it. Now, I don''t want to smell it ever, though I keep my kitty box schedule in tact. Anyway, this air cleaner is so quiet on Whisper Mode that I literally cannot hear it. I even put it in my roommate''s bedroom, just to see if she realized it was in there, before moving it to its final destination. She had no clue.

The model has 3 speeds, but the Whisper Mode is fine for continuous daily use. Sure, you can turn it up, and you''ll hear it''s low whirrrrrr, but that''s to be expected.

Another reason I bought it is that it IS a HEPA quality cleaner. But I don''t have to buy replacement filters--ever. This one has a "permanent" filter, which I didn''t even know existed. To clean it, it says about once every 6 months to just use your hose and brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner and suck it out. Really? That''s awesome! Why don''t ALL HEPA filters do this. That feels like such a waste. I''m not allergic to anything, but my purpose for this is to keep the area near my kitty box smelling like air, and not horrid ammonia. Cats are so gorgeous, but like newborn babies, they sure can produce some of the foulest smells!

Keep in mind that this model does not have an ionizer. In one of the pictures it shows an ionizer icon, so this can be misleading. I think this is an OK product for under 50 dollars, I don''t think other similar priced air cleaners would do much better or worse. It''s good for smaller rooms. And it isn''t silent on the lowest setting, unlike some reviewers said. The noise is similar to a fan on low speed or a refrigerator. Some people may like the "white noise" the low setting creates.

I noticed a small difference within 6 hours of use, but that may be my imagination. If people really want a dust free room, they need to clean carpets, walls, windows, curtains, blinds, air vents, bedding, etc. Also use a HEPA filter for your home and use some cheesecloth over all vents. Air cleaners will only clean what''s in the AIR. The majority of dust settles but occasionally does stir up.

Eureka DCF-21 Filter

This filter was a great replacement. It fit well and works great. Now I can thouroughly wash and dry the unit that came with the vacuum and switch them out. Price was right too.

I agree with William C. Spaulding, Oct 24, 2012 review. Filter does not lock into canister head/dust cup. However William was wrong when he said tabs are too short, it is the gasket on the end that is too thin. The gasket is half the thickness it should be, therefore, does not "push" tabs into the locking notch. The gasket acts like a "spring" locking filter into notches which also seals the filter to the head.

I do design for a living, but this is just such a blatant change that effects fit and function. This would have never happened at where I work and if it did, we would not ship out the part until it was corrected or returned to the vendor. Someone at the manufacturer was trying to save a penny (or less) a filter and turned it into a unusable piece of trash. They could apply a second gasket onto the first to build it up to the correct thickness.

I will not put tape on the tabs because the gasket seal is very important to the performance of the vacuum. Crucial Vacuum needs to stop selling these, refund or replace the "defective" filters with "good" filters free of charge. Then Crucial has to get the supplier to correct the defective gasket or return them to P.R.O.C. (People''s Republic Of China), YUP, made in China.

I felt good about buying from Crucial Vacuum because, in the past, I purchased allergen vacuum bags from Crucial. This has left a really bad taste in my mouth in trusting this brand again. When I put in a request to return the item, they expect me to pay the return shipping! I sent them a message requesting a prepaid return label or just refund purchase price. I will update this review, on how Crucial vacuum handles this whole mess.

Update 30 October. Crucial Vacuum is issuing a refund. But never mentioned if they were going to correct the filter thickness issue which can be remedied by attaching another gasket over the existing gasket to "build up" the gasket to the correct thickness. Raised stars to 2 because they issued a refund immediately.

I was a little worried that maybe they would be cheaply made because they are literally HALF the cost ''here'' VS the store prices ''BUT I am happy to say that they are not a cheap knockoff and they fit perfectly (actually a bit better)!! This filter works well and is easily washable. However, the 3 projections that are slid into slots to hold the filter in place are too small for the slots. Hence, the filter falls out while vacuuming, allowing the dust to go straight to the motor. I have improvised a solution by taping small pieces of duct tape over the projections to make a tighter fit, but it would be nice if the projections fit snugly in the slots, as the filter from the original manufacturer does. Otherwise, I would definitely give this filter a 5-star rating.

ERP1000-JG-S - Aquatec Permeate Pump 10-100 GPD

I had purchased one of these permeate pumps for my reverse osmosis system from Apec several years ago. The reason I purchased it was because I ran a PVC line outside to the back of my refrigerator to provide filtered water for my ice maker and drinking water on the front of the frig. However, when I did this, the water pressure was so low, it would take forever to get a glass of water. However, once I installed this pump into my system, it made an incredible difference in the amount of water pressure I was getting. So, I would highly recommend this pump to whoever might be having low water pressure from their R/O system. My first pump lasted about five years, so I purchased this replacement. The nice thing is that it works off of the water pressure itself, so there is no electricity needed to run it.

Let me start off by saying this permeate pump was supplied with my reverse osmosis system, I did not purchase it from Amazon. Over the last two years I have gone through 3 of these pumps. My first pump lasted 12months, the second about 5months, and I think my third pump is dying after only a few months. There really is only one way to install it, so it''s not like I messed up the installation. It''s a nice feature to have when its working properly and it definitely increased the amount and pressure of RO water produced...but these units just don''t last. I can only figure the good reviews are based on pumps that have not been installed very long. I tried to contact the manufacture but they didn''t reply. I''ve read better reviews with the ERP-500 but I won''t risk being burned again. My warrantee is over and I will not be purchasing a replacement from this company, I''m going to an electric booster pump by a different manufacture, I hope that will be the answer. I was excited when I saw this pump was made in the USA, but this thing is junk and not worthy of such a label.

I have 90 psi of water pressure in my home but somehow the pressure coming out of my reverse osmosis system is a bit low. Maybe cause I have it running under the floor and feeding the icemaker in the refrigerator also. Anyway... add this very well designed device to your system and you can get enough pressure to fill a 12 cup coffee carafe in just about 20 seconds or so (on my system anyway). 1/4" press-fit lines. It does make a "spitting" sound every so often but it isn''t bothersome (I have my system under the kitchen sink). The incredibly interesting thing about this device is that it is able to boost pressure in your Reverse Osmosis tank without any external power. Really... I would like to take it apart and see how the hell that is done!! This is my 2nd one. My first one lasted about 5 years. Since it does have some moving parts inside it -it will wear out.

Oh yeah... I searched the Internt and got it here because it was the best price I could find. Other places were $65 on upward and one well over $100! Good to shop around. 15 minutes to install.

I have no complaints about the reliability or performance of this unitit was very easy to install and best of all it requires no electricity.

I bought this pump on 6-28-2009 and its still going strong. I use it for drinking water, maintaining two 75gal aquariums and various houseplants, so I would say probably heavier than average usage. DEFINITELY a worthwhile upgradeoverall better pressure and the recovery rate is much faster, so I assume its also saving a ton of water.(never compared before and after...)

My only complaint would be it''s a bit noisy, so try to mount it on a solid surface(like concrete). Mine is mounted to a wood wall in the basement and the ''clicking'' noise is transmitted into the structure so you can hear it upstairs a little bit. It really doesn''t bother me, but I know some people are more sensitive.

I''m a college student and am experiencing my first quarter away from home, and away from the water purifier tap built-in to my (former) household. In desperate urge to get my hands on some quality purified water I thoroughly searched Amazon for the superior pitcher. Needless to say, Brita has gone downhill over these last years, their pitchers are faulty and their filters are lacking. There was this other fancy brand, Mavea, that cost about $5 more than the Premia, and there seemed to be an issue with the water capacity, but more importantly the quality of filtration. I thought there would be no better alternative than Brita or Mavea, when I spotted this baby, saw rave reviews and decided to purchase. The filters last twice as long as most other brands, and the water tastes excellent.I could not be happier with it, except for the lid, which you have to clasp in your fingers when you need a refill, but this does not inhibit the awesome rating of 5 stars that the Premia deserves.

Want better coffee in the morning? This water filter was one of the solutions in our quest for perfect coffee (a Bunn coffee-maker, KitchenAid grinder, and whole beans were the others). Filtered water DOES make a difference, and the Premia does just what it is supposed to do. I can taste the difference.

The pitcher handle is surprisingly comfortable in your hand and gives you the strange sensation that the filled pitcher is lighter than you expect. I initially found myself dropping the top cover into the unfiltered water reservoir when trying to put it on after filling from the tap, and the the top''s slight "handle" is smooth such that it can slip out of your fingers'' hold if you aren''t careful. Wish that part of the piece was rougher. But this is a small criticism of a basically great product, and I never even considered trying a different brand. You can even pour filtered water before the filtering is complete (if you''re careful) without the unfiltered water pouring out once the majority of the unfiltered water has already met its filter fate. Now THAT is some thoughtful designing. It''s all but idiot-proof!

Our pipes are pretty sensitive here. If we wait more than a couple of days between shaving, they get stopped up simply with barely centimeter-long hairs. This stuff did a great job loosening that stuff up and clearing our drains. It has a very weak odor so it''s surprisingly gentle on the nose as well. It does say it''s a "gel" but it''s not much thicker than water. I don''t know if you''re supposed to shake it first or not, but I had do because the thicker part of the solution would clump up meaning it was just adding to the clogging problem at first! :P

While using this stamped sheet wrench for the first time, it bent. The water filter on my fridge wasn''t over tightened either.

I feel a good channel lock pliers would have worked just as good. I would have passed on this cheap item if I had known it was just a stamped steel wrench.

I rarely write reviews, but since this item didn''t have any and we bought it recently as a new-baby humidifier, I thought I''d get the ball rolling with this one. We will use our humidifiers strictly for the baby, and although we''ve only been using this one for a week, I may update this review for a final verdict. After reading numerous other reviews (I''m aiming to pick up another one soon), I feel slightly more educated about the features that consumers might find more desirable in a humidifier.

What I like:

* It works. I wouldn''t normally add this seemingly obvious comment as a plus, but after reading other reviews, it seemed worth mentioning. If it fails in the near future, I will update this comment.

* No filters or wicks necessary. I find this feature highly desirable no added costs.

* Ultrasonic technology makes this unit run silently. And I mean silently! It makes no significant noise. Perhaps with other technologies, the mist volume could be heavier and thus noisier, but the quiet nature of this unit is pleasant. Also, thanks to the ultrasonic tech, the vapor stream is virtually instantaneous when switched on, both on warm or cold. Granted, a minor point, but nice. Which brings me to another pleasant feature....

* Emits both warm or cold mist. And does so effortlessly. One of its 4 face buttons allows a quick and easy switch from warm to cold and back, and as mentioned above, the change is immediate.

* The H4600 has 3 variable spray options. Low spray is perhaps too low, but the option is there if you want it to run all day and night. There is also a dual headed mist nozzle which allows greater choice at aiming the mist, but I don''t find this feature particularly useful since the mist spray isn''t all that strong to begin with, but it''s a nice addition, nonetheless.

* Silver Clean technology claims to fight mold and mildew in the water tank, allowing for healthier vapors and less cleaning. Too soon to judge this feature, but even if it works a little, it''ll be helpful and it''s better than not having it.

* Easy interface. The front panel has a simple 4 button operation with a lit display. I found this to be a welcome feature. One button is simply On or Off. Another is variable spray volume (low, medium, high) kind of like a fan speed. The third is to switch from cold mist or warm mist. And the last button is for the night light. That blue circle on the face of the unit is the night light. It''s fairly bright, but blue, so it''s not as bright as it might be otherwise. Since we use this for the baby''s room, we like this feature. The lit display shows the volume of spray (in a too elaborate display of LEDs), the chosen hot or cold mist option, and an indicator for low water in the tank. (The humidifier turns off when tank is too empty)

What I don''t like:

* It''s a bottom filled tank, meaning you need to lift out the tank, unscrew the underside cap to fill it with water. Thankfully, there are little handles on both the top and underside of the tank, but I don''t understand why humidifiers don''t regularly feature a top filling portal. It would be nice to be able to add water with a pitcher poured in the top rather than removing the entire tank, filling it and replacing it. The tank is fairly generous at 2.4 gallons, but that makes the full tank over 16 lbs. when full. Okay for me, but not the wife. Also, and perhaps more egregious is that the output nozzles on top (where the mist comes out) are rounded and interfere with the tank laying flat on its back when being filled. You cannot lay this tank flat on its back to fill it so it must be held, or at least braced (unless I didn''t realize that the output nozzles can be removed?)

* Cost. This is one of the most expensive room humidifiers I''ve seen. It does have a nice feature set, and so far, operates as advertised, so I think it''s worth it, but the price may discourage potential buyers. My wife bought this one because it was expensive. She figured it HAD to be the best one. I''m not sure she was wrong about that.

NOTE: For some reason, the amazon page that displays this item lists the following as one of its features, "Digital display and clock with programmable run features". I believe this was a mistake taken from some other model that isn''t being shown, although I''ve yet to see a humidifier with a digital clock on it. The picture amazon shows is the one we have. Well, I saw no such display or feature. There is no clock or digital display here, let alone programmable features. None that I saw, and I went through the manual. Perhaps this amazon model is one notch higher in this series of humidifiers and explains why it costs $20+ more than ours.

Conclusion: At first, I was disappointed with the design of the bottom-fill tank, and the poor placement of the output mist nozzles that I thought this was a deal breaker and planned on returning it. But then I came onto to Amazon to research and buy another model, and after rooting around the reviews, I realize that this model is actually pretty good. I don''t think the tank lasts 120 hours (5 days!), but it lasts fairly long. So, aside from the tank filling procedure, everything else about this humidifier is quite nice. Recommended.

** UPDATE **

The rounded silver-colored output nozzle on the top of the unit can, indeed, be removed while refilling with water. That''s helpful. It''s still not perfect, as the tank doesn''t lay flat on its back for refilling, but it helps. Also, the price of this unit has since gone up from when I wrote my review. We paid somewhere between $160-$180. Unfortunately, I don''t recall for certain, but if you''re thinking of buying this item, make sure you get the model with "Digital display and clock with programmable run features" as it states in the description. Ours didn''t come with that feature, and it''s the only thing that explains the price difference from what we paid. I can''t say if the extra cost is worth it, but I hope that helps.

** Update II **

It''s now January 2013 around 2+ years after purchase. The H4600 Ultrasonic Humidifier is still kicking, rather nicely, thank you. We use it primarily for the winter months. The internal basin of the base needs an occasional cleaning, but otherwise, all is well!

I have an electric PTAC heater/AC unit. It provides amazing heat in the winter and dries the room out like you wouldn''t believe making it so I have to wake up in the middle of the night to turn the heater off, or open a window to get moisture in the room. My last humidifier was OK, but it just didn''t do enough to combat the heater. I put this on last night for the first time (and last night was snowing weather). The setting was on low, warm mist. Wow I slept so well. I didn''t wake up to turn the heater off, I didn''t wake up in the middle of the night to drink from my bottle of water (I go through 16-24 ounces a night). I HIGHLY recommend this product for people with dry rooms. The fact that it has a 120 hour refill cycle is awesome! It''s also quiet!

Obviously since it''s new I can''t comment on cleaning procedures

My only negative feedback is the lights on this thing cannot be turned off. It''s in my bedroom and I have the LED lights hitting my wall. Considering they have a night-light button that turns some extra lights on they could have just made that button turn all the lights OFF. I will end up taping a piece of cloth to the front to block the light.

Holmes HM1700 2-Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier

I''ve had this machine for a few years now and since I was getting a couple more filters, which are ridiculously easy to find on-line, I thought I would throw in my 2 cents.

Yes, the tank only lasts about a day and a half, but that is what you want with any machine in this style. The longer a filter sits in water, the quicker it will get moldy (any filter will do this sitting in water). Regularly run dry and leave running without water a couple hours to dry out the filter and it will last longer for you. I let mine run w/o water while at work and generally replace the filter once per season even though I don''t need to.

The tank is easy to fill, doesn''t drip when carrying from the sink to humidifier and is easily placed back on. While its definately not quiet, the "Low" setting provides a modest amount of background white noise to doze of and sleep comfortably (which I like). Overall I think its an excellant design.

You get what you pay for. It is great for larger rooms, but it definitely does not last anywhere near 24 hours on a fill. Its more like 8. It can be a little loud, but it does work very well, and you can immediately feel the effects.

After running 15 gallons run through 2 x Berkey black filters and 2 x PF-"2" (not 4) fluoride filters I sent a sample of this "filtered" water to 3M for a fluoride concentration test. The results confirmed that these so-called "fluoride filters" DON''T actually filter out fluoride.

I use these filters because of fluorinated tap water. I have no capability for testing (working on that). However, I have been using this system since last August. It''s March and this will be the second set. I try to make this water the only water I drink. I can sense what happens when a person drinks fluorinated public water. It shuts off the thyroid. I''ve been using Berkey filters a couple of years now and finally switched to the white ceramic filters with the flouride/arsenic filters. They do work great, but are a little slower than the black filter (with fluoride/arsenic filters) and also I had to prime them three full times before they would work properly.

Overall, I like these and they work well.

For those of you trying to decide on white vs. black with fluoride filters, I think either would be ok, but here are the pros and cons of both:

Black:

+ (supposedly) a better filter when it comes to filtration

+ 2 of these seem to filter faster than 4 of the white

sometimes can come apart at base

more expensive

White:

+ lasts longer

+ can be washed more

+ cheaper

slower filtration of water

(supposedly) inferior to the black filters

The add-on fluoride/arsenic filters for each, though different) seem to function about the same. No noticeable difference.

We bought this KitchenAid coffee maker to replace our beloved Cuisinart one that we''d had for about 4 years. I was hesitant to switch brands but we''ve always had good luck with KitchenAid and so far, this coffee maker doesn''t disappoint. I really like the removable water reservoir for cleaning purposes. *** ok, two week update... it is still awesome. the carafe pours without putting coffee on the countertop, which is awesome. when i sneak a cup while it is brewing there is no leakage, which is awesome, the temperature is extremely hot, i cut my coffee with milk so after getting the ingredients mixed the temperature is perfect. after brewing when you open the lid to clean out the old grounds it does have condensation go onto the lid for the water resevoir, but to me that is no big deal. the bold setting on the coffee gets the full flavor out of the beans. the removable water resevoir, as of this date shows no sign of leaking. so as of this update, two weeks out, i''m still on the "i recommend this coffee maker to everybody who drinks coffee, it is awesome" oh i see a guy gave this thing 3 stars, this is his only review, which to me sounds kind of odd, maybe he works for the competition. so if you are in the market for a new coffee maker, i highly recommend this one. oh and btw, i drink two pots of coffee every day, so my coffee pot gets well used. will update later on down the road if i remember

This is a good coffee maker with a very pleasing design. It is, however, the most water retaining coffee maker I have ever had. I love that the water tank is removable, and it''s a good thing that it is because there''s always a little puddle of water left in it that needs to be drained. The carafe is a nice weight and does not leak coffee as you pour. But it also retains liquid because the heavy black lip around the top allows liquid to seep underneath. This measns when you pour the coffee or when you rinse it out with water, there is no way the last bit will be removed. That darn seal will hold on to some every time you tilt to pour. The top of the coffee maker has two lids which can''t be opened at the same time. One lid reveals the coffee filter. The inside of this lid puddles up so much that it needs to be wiped dry if you are one who likes to set the coffee maker the night before. Otherwise it will leak down on to your dry coffee grounds. The other lid is the top of the water tank. This is the only coffee maker I''ve had that will not allow both areas to be opened at the same time for air drying purposes. Since the water tank is removable, this is not a major issue. I like KitchenAid products and this machine makes a good cup of coffee. If dealing with left over water is of no concern, I would recommend this product.

I bought this coffee pot as a temporary replacement (while I wait on a part for my Cuisinart Grind/Brew so I can go back to that one). It was the least expensive "decent" coffeepot that was available in the store for immediate purchase at BB & B. I was intrigued by the KitchenAid brand, as I know their large kitchen appliances are good (my mom has used them forever), but I had never seen a coffee pot by them. We have had several Cuisinart coffee makers over the years and they are good, but most have needed replacement after about 2-3 years. So, anyway, I got this machine home and went online to see the reviews (this was the one machine that I had NOT already read the reviews on before going to the store) and was worried after reading all the horror stories about the leaking and mess. But, hubby needed his coffee at 4:30 this morning, so I went ahead and opened it up to give it a shot. I read the manual and took it out of the box, removed the packaging stuff and set it on the counter. I washed the stuff you are supposed to and when I went to rinse the carafe, I think I stumbled on something that might be causing some of those other reviewers a problem. I filled the carafe at the sink just as if the machine were dripping coffee into the top of the carafe lid. (A medium/small drizzle of water directly onto the "bubble" top of the carafe.) It was an interesting experiment that demonstrated that if the carafe was not almost perfectly level, or the water didn''t flow almost directly straight onto the middle of the bubble top, then it ran off the sides of the carafe lid. So I wonder... if perhaps some of those folks have a countertop that is slightly less than level. I know in our first home, I had countertops that were not level. Not noticeable most of the time, but it would have probably been enough to cause this issue with this pot. Also, after paying careful attention to that, and seeing that the depressed area around the "bubble" of the lid is rather small and that the REST of the lid is completely flat I set the carafe into the coffee maker. And noticed that if you don''t have the handle oriented to the direct front of the machine (if it is turned to either side) it pushes the pot out just slightly enough that the proper angle is not achieved with the bubble top and the bottom of the brew basket.... in other words, the coffee will end up dripping off to the side of the bubble enough that it will run off the lid (because it will flow outside the little depression around the bubble). If the handle is to the front, then the coffee flows straight down onto the top of the bubble thingee and it works perfectly.

I also practiced (can''t believe I am even typing this) pouring from the carafe over the sink with just water as I was washing/rinsing the carafe. There was not one single drip. No matter how fast or slowly I poured. So I don''t understand the problem others are having. Maybe after some use the carafe seal will become damaged or something, but for now, I couldn''t ask for anything more!

I ran the original water only cycle to rinse/clean the machine for first time use. Then set it up for a pot of coffee. Hubby turned it on this morning in the wee hours (like 5 a.m.) and then after making his cup, poured the rest into the thermal carafe (from our Cuisinart) so it would stay warm for me, since I wasn''t going to be up until closer to 8:00 a.m. He didn''t leave it on the warmer at all... just straight into the carafe. I poured my first cup around 8:45 a.m. this morning and it was still hot. :)) And tasted pretty good... I will have to tweak it a little, but that is the amount of grounds to use, not an issue with the coffee pot itself. Anyone who says it isn''t hot, must have a different machine that what was inside our box.

As for dripping/leaks from the carafe... I guess only time will tell. But I had NO water or coffee anywhere except in the carafe where it belongs.

So, make sure your counter is level, and make sure you orient the carafe into the machine with the handle in the front (not to the sides) and I don''t think you should have any problems. I think it works great! And was certainly worth the $68 I paid for it (after the BB&B 20% off coupon).

I''ve read all the comments here and think some people may have missed the point: It Brews Great Coffee! Much better than any other maker I''ve found (except maybe for a worn out Krups I found at a vacation rental unit at the beach). Yes, it has a wide carafe so if you pour too fast the coffee comes out in a wider stream than the cup can catch. Yes, the condensation that occurs on the bottom of the lid means that when you lift the lid to put in a new filter you get some water dribbled onto the top at the back. Yes, it drips slow on the "BOLD" setting, because that allows the water to pick up more flavor out of the grounds as it passes through. Yes, it leaves some water in the bottom of the reservoir. I''ve always assumed that is probably because it has a charcoal filter at the bottom in a little well, and it needs to stay moist. But since the reservoir is removable, if you don''t like this then pour it out. This KitchenAid brews really great coffee! So my advice is: pour slower; wipe up the condensation; don''t worry about the water at the bottom, and be more patient while you wait for the Bold coffee to brew. I turn it on then go out to get the paper off the driveway. It will be done when I get back. I have had one of these machines for more than a year, and I''m now buying another one for my second home because while I''m here I miss not having really great coffee. The maker that I have here now doesn''t drip, pour funny, or leave water in the bottom, but neither does it make the kind of coffee I''ve become accustomed to with my KitchenAid. Did I mention it brews really great coffee?

I love this product! I wanted a water cooler for along time but didn''t want to deal with water delivery service or carrying/lifting heavy bottles, this seemed like a great solution. Like another reviewer I had a hard time separating the top half from the bottom half when it came out of the packaging they were "suctioned" together and I needed help to get them apart. You need to soak the new filter for a half an hour: charcoal colored bits came out of it and I was concerned that it would get into the water but after the half hour soak and rinse all was clear. Our water tastes great with no chlorine/chemical odor. Filling the top every couple of days is easier to me than arranging for bottles to be delivered or remembering to put out the empties and have to lug in those heavy bottles. And with back problems there''s no way would I be able to lift the bottle to put it on top of the cooler, so this is the perfect answer. I purchased it along with an Avanti hot/cold water dispenser unit Avanti WDP75 Hot and Cold Water Dispenserwhich unfortunately is defective (and the company has terrible customer service) so I''ve ordered a Clover cooler and hoping for better luck (and returning the Avanti.) Tried everything, would rate lower based on shady packaging. I realize everyone is trying to save a few bucks here and there, but the packaging was horrible. The top is wedged into the bottom and I could not pull it out. I tried everything from soaking it in soapy water to having someone help me. Thought I finally got it to budge and then I noticed the bottom part was cracked all the way up towards the top. Wasn''t able to use it, threw it in the trash out of frustration. I live in a 3rd floor apartment, and we were lugging 2 5 gallon jugs of wter up all the flights of stairs at least every week. I figured out the price of this jug versus the water we were hauling, and it came out to the same cost with less hassle. It''s like a Brita pitcher, but much bigger.

The only thing that I can find that I don''t like so well is that it leaks a little around the filter, about a drop of water ever 3 seconds or so. It''s not a big deal, but it bugs me slightly.

I sat mine on one of the crock-style bases and have had no issues whasoever. I prefer my water room temperature or slightly cool, so I sit the crock by the window in the winter time to keep my water a few degrees cooler. All around, a great purchase.

Bodum Assam 34-Ounce Glass Teapot with Stainless-Steel Filter

Bodum design and quality has always intrigued me in both positive and negative ways. I have in the past easily broken a bodum glass item and yet I am still drawn into purchasing another product.

I''ve wanted the Bodum Assam 34-ounce cast-iron version for longevity, but the weight of it alone is too much to handle to brew tea. So I opted for this 34-ounce glass version which is very light and, like other Bodum borosilicate glass items, delicate. I have yet to break porcelain items by simple bumps while washing, but with a Bodum I am sure to crack them in time.

However, after much searching for a tea brewing device which affords functionality and simplicity, I fall for a Bodum yet again.

WHY? It is only this brand that features a tea press that stops the brewing process when the desired strength has been reached.

HOW? The loose leaves are placed on the center inside the stainless steel filter. When you want the brewing process to stop, the plunger pushes the leaves down the bottom of the filter away from the liquid and sealed by a silicon rubber ring surrounding the plunger. It''s a simple ingenious design carried and modified from their coffee press.

PROS:

Effective and ingenious plunger to create a tailored brewing strength depending on user, water volume and type of tea leaves

Despite a thin glass container, surprisingly keeps the liquid hot for a relatively long time.

Simple design makes an elegant product that matchces any interior as well as hand washing very easy.

No spill in pouring. I was afraid the small lip may cause spilling while pouring, but I experienced none. No spills travelling down the wall after pouring as well.

Glass version allows you to view the brewing the process and cater to your needs.

CONS:

Thin borosilicate glass makes the tea press more fragile than you think.

Plunger design is simple, but clumsy as well. Plunger stalk has to be aligned completely vertical or pushing straight down will be met with great resistance especially as the silicon rubs against the stainless steel wall.

Loose leaves are not all contained on the bottom as some may escape thru the silicon seal and shred against the stainless steel filter wall. If this happens, the brewing process is not effectively and completely stopped. The leaves especially escape if you don''t align the plunger completely vertically. (You will know what I am talking about when you own it and experience the same).

VERDICT:

You have a choice between an extremely heavy cast-iron version or the extremely light glass version. I wish Bodum created a thicker-walled version in glass so I can still view the brewing process and have it less fragile than most Bodum products these days.

For the price, I really can''t complain so I find myself purchasing yet another functional and patented Bodum product. Until another company has come up with an ingenious plunger system that is better built, I guess Bodum it will be for now.

Pro''s: nice size for 2 people, easy to make tea with loose tea or tea bags, poors well, easy to clean up, pleasing to the eye and works with most kitchen decors, utilitarian with a little bit of flair.

Con''s: I would like to be able to remove all the stainless parts and have an all glass tea pot too, but I couldn''t find a teapot with that design.

I really want to like this press, but having a hard time. Don''t get me wrongit''s beautiful sitting on the counter, but I just don''t see the hype in these reviews. I''ve had it a couple of weeks, and here are my concerns:

1) the glass is really thin. I don''t think it''s going to take much banging on the granite counter, or in the sink before it shatters. Bodum sells quite a few glass beaker replacements for their coffee press line (I have one), and that is for a device that has the beaker encased in some type of frame. This tea press glass is unprotected, and I can''t imagine that it is going to last too long.

2) The plunger mechanism is a good concept, but poor execution. When you plunge down to stop the brewing, there is no where for the water to go after you get past the strainer. Imagine trying to plunge (or unplunge) a capped syringe. It just doesn''t work well, and you have a vacuum lock when you pull up to remove the tea leaves.

3) The strainer sits so high in the carafe, you have to make a pretty big pot of tea to get a brew. It needs to be at least half full to get going (more the better). If you only need a serving or two of tea, you''re going to waste a bunch of leaves to get a pot bigger than you need.

4) the rubber gasket at the top has airspace behind. This is an area that collects junk, as it''s hard to wash. A good brew is all about puritybig $$ leaves, reverse-osmosis water, clean carafe, etc. No telling what bacterial colonies are growing in there.

5) the lid fits loosely, when you tilt to pour, the chrome top can slide off, and out comes your tea leaves everywhere.

6) You can''t use this carafe to brew flowering pots with the beautiful hand sewn tea leaf boquets. The top of the carafe is part of the plunger mechanism. Use the strainer or this model stays in the cabinet.

Again, it''s a pretty pot, but I don''t think anyone serious in tea brewing would take this model seriously. YMMV.

So I decided to stay away from their glass teapots and went on the Bodum site to purchase a stainless steel one. The tea just tasted funny like some metallic particules leached into the tea. I returned it and Bodum charged a restocking fee for the return. Between paying for shipping, the restocking fee and paying for the return shipping I was out almost $40! Stay away do not buy Bodum. They look good but very poor quality.
