Pasquini Livia 90 Semi Automatic Espresso Machine

Just one quick note: The photo above (at the time I wrote this review) is of the automatic model and not the semi-automatic model. This review is for the semi-auto model. For those who don''t know, the auto model allows you to push a button and the machine will start and stop the flow of water on its own (single or double). Semi-auto means you need to turn the flow of water on and off yourself. There are also super-auto machines that grind and tamp the beans as well.

The Review: This is a serious coffee machine. It''s "commercial quality" so it''s heavy (almost 50lbs) and very well built. It takes up some counter space (mostly depth) but it looks elegant and is easy to keep clean. The portafilter (handle with basket for coffee) is very sturdy and fits snugly. It has a useful ready gauge and simple buttons (as noted above) for on-off and start-stop.

Now the important stuff: It makes great coffee consistently. I moved up to this machine from a Braun pump espresso machine. This one has better pressure and temperature. I used to brag about my Braun machine because it was inexpensive and made consistently good esperesso. The first shots I pulled from this machine made me realize that I didn''t realize what I was missing. If you know how to make espresso, this machine lets you pull easy, consistent, and quality shots.

Another great feature of this machine is the continuous steam and hot (very hot!) water outlet. If you''ve ever had trouble steaming milk on machine you''ll be impressed and maybe even surprised at how well this works. The machine also recovers well and quickly after you pull shots or use the steam wand.

The tanks is removable and holds a lot of water. It''s easy to fill in place as well. You can leave this machine on all day if you like (it''s designed to work that way) and you might want to if you''re like me and drink too much coffee. The reason is that it can take a little while to warm up if it''s been off for a while. That''s probably the only thing I''m not fond of with this machine. First thing in the morning it can take a while to warm up (5-10 mins). This makes sense given the size and build of the machine. It simply takes time to warm up to the proper brewing temperature. However, I had gotten used to a machine that only takes a couple of minutes. So, my new morning routine includes going down to turn on the machine and coming down after my shower for my great coffee!

If you''ve never had a pump machine before, you may need some practice, but I think this is a good machine to learn on (due to its consistency). Just remember to follow the instructions (especially not to overfill the filter) and adjust either the grind of your coffee or the pressure of your tamping to get the desired results.

I hope this is helpful to you if you''re considering this machine. I''d say it does well or better to other machines in this price range. It''s a definite step up in quality and build from the machine''s you''ll find in the $500-1000 price range. It''s a complete improvement in machine and coffee from pretty much any machine under $500.

One last comment, Pasquini has been excellent and very responsive to questions. I''m very pleased to see them here on Amazon.

I bought the Livia 90 semi-automatic in 2003 and I was always pleased with the consistent results. Very good espresso with crema and excellent cappuccinos, not to mention the ability to brew a tea in less than 5 seconds. The machine is very sturdy and beautifully constructed with stainless steel and a 1.5 liter brass boiler chamber. The machine takes 7 minutes to warm up because it''s all metal with only the porta-filter handle, the switches, and a couple of knobs made of plastic. For the first couple of years I used the machine with ground coffee, but then I switched to pods because it''s less messy and I consistently get the crema every time I use the machine. Also this gave me the chance to try out several brands of coffee ( I believe I tried more than twenty varieties by buying pod samplers available on the web). I''m now mostly settled on Illy medium roast ESE pods, Starbucks, and Lucaffe Colombia pods.

After three years since I had the machine I had a problem with the steam water valve: at least once a day it wouldn''t stop heating the machine after reaching the correct pressure, causing the safety valve to release the excess pressure with a very loud noise. I had to return the machine to Pasquini where they replaced the valve and rewired the machine to work properly. After that the machine always worked perfectly and I now turn on the machine early in the morning and I turn it off after dinner at night every day.

You need to take care of the maintenance of the machine, starting with cleaning the machine regularly ( I use the PuliCaff powder once a week) in order to get rid of the coffee oils that deposit in the group head and filters, as well as replacing the undercup gasket and the various O-rings at least once a year, or else the rubber will harden and water will leak from the porta-filter. The maintenance intervals vary with the machine usage: I brew about 6 to 8 coffees every day and I found out that cleaning the machine once a week and changing the gaskets once a year is a good compromise.

After seven years of use the machine still works great and looks like new. I love the espressos I can make with this machine, but now the problem is that I cannot drink regular brewed coffee anymore when I go out to a restaurant that doesn''t serve espresso coffee.

I have waited a year before writing a review because I think that is a reasonable amount of time to wait to give the review credibility. I have to say my husband and I love love love this machine. It looks fabulous and makes the best coffee. It''s easy to clean, quick to recover in between coffees so you can make lots of coffees one after the other. Milk steamer is easy to use and great to make the kids hot chocolate. Also the hot water dispenser is great ''cos I love to make tea as well. The water tank is very large and we don''t have to fill it often but even then it''s easy to do we fill it in place with a couple of big plastic jugs. It''s great we love it and don''t have single complaint. We got it for each other last Christmas ''07 and have a lot more friends now! I don''t hesitate in recommending it to you and one final thing it really takes no time to warm up whats five minutes to wait for great coffee! The line at Starbucks would take longer and your coffee will taste a lot better!

I''ve had mine for about 10 years now with daily+ use. It only required one replacement part when I got it (used) and has functioned generally flawlessly for all this time. I''m an espresso connoisseur, roast my own beans and seek perfection from this machine. A great burr grinder is essential for this machine. Overall, it does a very good job, but is admittedly finicky. FRESH ROAST, grind, tamp and extraction must all be done very well or shot quality goes funky. Some gripes are the 4-hole standard steamer tip is BAD. It can be replaced with a 2-hole (Google this issue for recommendations) that will slow down the process a bit, make less mess in a small pitcher and permit great microfoam. Oh yeah, try a few different varieties of minimum 2% milk (whole is best!) from your supermarket some foam MUCH better than others.

I got a deal on this machine by agreeing to buy a years worth of Illy coffe. Since illy is my favorite coffee and they offer vacuum cans of pods it was a no brainer. The coffee actually lasted more like 2 years but I still buy Illy pods for those times when grinding is a chore. I''d recommend you check out the current Illy deal if you are looking for an espresso machine. I''d tell what I paid but it would bum everyone out.

The Livia 90 is so not a toy. Also it is not a factory machine that grinds and tamps and does everything for you. I suspect those machines by their nature are less reliable but anyway I like to handle my food and drink when I prepare it.

The espresso is perfect every time with just the right temp, flavor and crema whether I am using a pod or not. The boiler is large enough to make half a dozen different drinks and steam milk for all of them. This is a tried and true two portafilter machine with one portafilter. Also it dispenses boiling water for tea or Fench press coffee or you can make tea with pods. I love having boiling water on demand in the kitchen. I have never had it perform in any way other than optimally.

I received my item (though late, Thanks Amazon), and apparently all my research into an air cleaner has paid off. This little guy does exactly what it says and works like a charm.

Here''s why I bought it. I wanted an air cleaner for a medium to small sized room where I keep my cat''s litter box. Normally, it doesn''t smell, but about the day it''s time to change it, I can smell it. Now, I don''t want to smell it ever, though I keep my kitty box schedule in tact. Anyway, this air cleaner is so quiet on Whisper Mode that I literally cannot hear it. I even put it in my roommate''s bedroom, just to see if she realized it was in there, before moving it to its final destination. She had no clue.

The model has 3 speeds, but the Whisper Mode is fine for continuous daily use. Sure, you can turn it up, and you''ll hear it''s low whirrrrrr, but that''s to be expected.

Another reason I bought it is that it IS a HEPA quality cleaner. But I don''t have to buy replacement filters--ever. This one has a "permanent" filter, which I didn''t even know existed. To clean it, it says about once every 6 months to just use your hose and brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner and suck it out. Really? That''s awesome! Why don''t ALL HEPA filters do this. Keep in mind that this model does not have an ionizer. In one of the pictures it shows an ionizer icon, so this can be misleading. I think this is an OK product for under 50 dollars, I don''t think other similar priced air cleaners would do much better or worse. It''s good for smaller rooms. And it isn''t silent on the lowest setting, unlike some reviewers said. The noise is similar to a fan on low speed or a refrigerator. Some people may like the "white noise" the low setting creates.

I noticed a small difference within 6 hours of use, but that may be my imagination. If people really want a dust free room, they need to clean carpets, walls, windows, curtains, blinds, air vents, bedding, etc. Also use a HEPA filter for your home and use some cheesecloth over all vents. Air cleaners will only clean what''s in the AIR. The majority of dust settles but occasionally does stir up.

Like others have said, make sure you get all you need to install this right. The EP-036 only works with the Hamilton Humidifier Model 10 HF. Hamilton has their own web site (hamiltonhomeproducts.com) where you can find the product manuals and pictures of what the real product looks like with it''s side rails. It is important that the pad be inserted in the right direction (black mark at the top on the original product) so the water flows through the pad correctly.

I''ve also had to replace the solenoid on my unit twice now, and I replace the pad each year but it continues to work great. It makes the whole house feel warmer, totally does away with static shocks, and helps to keep the hardwood floors in my house in great shape.

Watts does not make it easy to match up filters with there filter housing. It required a lot of homework to get the filters that would work with the housing. Tracking the original filters that came with the housing proved fruitless. Once I did all the homework the system is working fine.

Cream Soda SodaMix

I am quite fond of cream soda and was happy not only to find it for my SodaStream. I got it home and made it right away. It is good. Not amazing, but pretty good. It has a taste that reminds me more of caramel than it did cream soda. So I bought this product today (from Target, not from Amazon.com) and I want to begin by saying, undisputably, outstanding.

I was hesitant to purchase this product because last year I made a huge mistake by buying Bissel''s Flip It (electronic broom vacuum and mop).

Before I begin my review of this product, let me begin with the Bissel equivalent. I bought the product because I''m 26 years old and was living in New Orleans in the French Quarter. I would have friends over all the time, and they''d track in the quarter filth all over the hardwood. I bought the Bissel because it seemed to make sense. It''s an electronic broom vacuum on one side, then you flip the handle over to the other side and it becomes a wet map. It came with two attachable mop features, a non-moving brush and a small microfiber pad.

The Bissel product was awful. It weighed about 20 pounds (much heavier than this product) and the vacuum wouldn''t pick up anything, not the smallest dust or debris. It would blow dust away before the unit could get to it. When you flipped it over, the electronic mop side did what it was advertised to do. The only problem was the squeegy would push water around. The unit had to build a suction to pick up water. It wouldn''t build a suction unless you lifted up lightly on the unit while pulling it back. Then it picked up water fine, though, again, the unit weighed about 20 pounds.

I bought the Bissel product on Amazon.com for about $189 dollars. But I didn''t open it until about a month after it arrived, so by the time I got to use it was too late to return. I wrote to Bissel to see if they would give me my money back and they declined, saying they would only replace it. I gave it away to a friend, and he put it on the curb two days later.

This Hoover product is completely different. It doesn''t just have a microfiber pad, it has a moving, agitating brush that really cleans the tile (in my new home in Arizona). I rebought this sort of product because, for anyone that hasn''t lived in Arizona, the area is extremely dusty and a lot of tile is textured. My intention was to buy it to *try* to clean the tile and then return it. This product is not going back.

The people who lived in the house before me had coated the tile with some sort of protectant which was peeling off and collecting dirt. They also brought in their bicycles so when i purchased, the first goal was to try to buff them off. Nothing worked. As of today, when I bought the machine, they''re gone. So is the peeling protecting that was gathering dirt. Someone said in a review ''it won''t clean my grout.'' The grout is clean, so I don''t know what they''re talking about.

The bottom line is, some people have a mental illness. You can look at their profiles and see the number of reviews they do, and it''s clear they purchase things solely to review them later. They''re the same people who religiously call into QVC and HSN. The same people who complain "it''s so heavy," are the ones saying, "it doesn''t have this, this, this, and this." If it had those things, it wouldn''t be as light as it is, simple physics. The vacuum works fine, so does the mop. You don''t have to flip it, or lift it, to build a suction and get the mop function to work. It glides over the tile with relative ease, and though I''m in shape, it''s impressively light.

My only complaint was when I went to remove the collection resevoir, I didn''t know you had to hold it very tightly. The bottom fell out and spilt all over the floor. I washed out the resevoir and replaced it, and the mess was recleaned in less than 3 minutes.

Buy this product.

Purchase the damn thing, and return it if you don''t like it.

Although I had a bit of trouble getting this machine as the first one sent was defective, the replacement arrived quickly. I have travertine tile (very textured) floors throughout my kitchen and family room and NOTHING has ever gotten them clean of the Georgia red clay where I live! I have tried everything from a steam-mop machine to hands-and-knees scrubbing. This machine WORKS! The only other time I''ve seen them this clean was after paying for commercial cleaning which was quite expensive. I''m glad I decided to go with a replacement after getting one that didn''t work the first time. I definitely recommend! A white paper towel wiped across the floor stays white...amazing.

My husband got me this for Christmas (per my request) and it is nothing short of amazing. I cleaned our a portion of our hardwood kitchen floor to try it out and was amazed (and sort of disgusted) by the water that ended up in the dirty water tank. My floors get cleaned once a week by my cleaning people (who may no longer be needed) and they always LOOKED clean, but clearly they are not. After testing on that portion of the floor I continued and finished the kitchen, did 4 bathrooms, the laundry room, and our basement bar. I couldn''t ber happier! We have all hard floors in our house. Pushing a "Swifter" around just didn''t seem to get the floors clean. The floor mate works pretty much as advertised. It takes some practice and an occasional wiping up excess water with a rag. The vacuum "alone" function doesn''t work so great. For example dog hair mostly doesn''t make it up to the canister. It picks up everything when it''s in the washing mode, though. If it worked well as a floor vacuum, I would give it 5 stars.

To me it felt heavier than 16 pounds before adding water. But not unreasonably.

If you have stuck on food or gum or whatever.....the brushes with not scrub it away, so get this up beforehand.

May be wise to alternate hands during use or you may get an ache in your waist.

Practice makes perfect on getting tile floor surface to not look a little filmy.

If you use the hoover floormate detergent the room will smell nice and fresh for awhile.

The drying part of the routine takes excess water up but floor will still need a little time to finish drying.

I plan to use my Floormate often and all in all am glad I bought it.

Graco Humidifier Replacement filter for 1.5 Gallon Save 26% Off

I purchased this filter for my Graco home humidifier. I regularly performed operational maintenance on my humidifier, including washing the filter. Despite the maintenance the filter slowly became discolored from the natural pollutants and minerals contained in my water. This Graco Filter helped solve my problem.

I carefully care for the filter. To avoid frequently replacing the filter, I use a procedure that can extend the life of the filter. When the filter forms a crust, I soak it for awhile in vinegar water (usually 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water). After soaking I carefully rinse the filter several times in fresh water.

The Graco humidifier that I use is an evaporation style machine. To work properly, the "filter" must be free of pollutants, as the machine adds moisture to the air by having a fan blow air through the sponge type filter (exactly like the "swamp coolers" so popular in arid climates). Clogs decrease effectiveness and add pollutants to the air in the room being used. Accordingly, in addition to carefully maintaining the filter, I add KAZ Humidifier Bacteriostatic Treatment to the reservoir to prevent the growth of bacterial agents. (KAZ Humidifier Bacteriostatic Treatment

When properly maintained, the Graco Humidifier Replacement filter is an excellent product. I recommend this filter for evaporation humidifiers.

Not a huge fan of this humidifier and filter. It gets mildewy so fast and is expensive to replace regularly. It is also only available online. When we bought the humidifier it was carried at BRUS but not anymore. Overall, it works 100% fine and does it''s job. I should''ve just gotten one of those ones with a built-in filter.

It goes into the humidifier length-wise and I found that I had to trim the height of the filter myself because the top water reservoir did not fit on properly with the new filter. Once trimed about 1/2 inch it works great... just required a bit of manual labor on my part.

I actually only have this because of the noise. I bought it when I was pregnant to be just what it''s supposed to be a little humidifier and it was fine but it was loud...now I can''t sleep without it, neither can my daughter. I went months without changing the filter simply because I just wanted the noise but once I got to cleaning it...it was gross. It really needs that filter. I don''t like that the water can easily spill. Once, after refilling it the water didn''t automatically stop and it just kept going but it was because it wasn''t positioned just right...it only happened once and never again I''ve had it for 2+ years now. It never seemed very effective though, whenever my daughter was sick I always had to add another humidifier in the room but the be fair the other one was a hot humidifier releasing steam rather than the cool air to vapor substance this thing releases. The filters don''t seem to fit like the ones the humidifier came with, it WILL fit it just seems like it''s not exact but we check and this is the size to use. I don''t know why they seem different.

I bought the graco humidifier at Babies r us last year. They still sell the humidifier but they no longer carry the filters. (that is ridiculous). Now to get the filters I have to order them online. I do not think a filter should be more than $4 since you use it and toss it.

The humidifier is loud and does not create any real humidity in the dry winter air. I could use the money I spend onthese replacement filters to purchase a better humidifier possibly a filterless one.

It is really important to factor filter costs into the total price. Many of us are swayed by a 35 dollar humidifier but do not take into consideration that you need a replacement filter once a month for 5 or 6 months per year at $8 per unit which add another 50 dollars to the cost plus shipping.

This is not worth that kind of money.

I''m always trying new products too. And when I just replaced the guts of my main toilet, I read I am not supposed to use the Clorox Bleach Tablets that go In the Tank!! As they eat at the rubber, and It''s probably why It needed replacing after 4 years. The bleach tablets are expensive and work really good. BUT this Is the next best thing. It does leave a fresh smell and keep the bowl clean with out bleach In the tank.

Mine lasted around 3 to 4 weeks the same as the other reviewers, but they are 1/2 this price at Target right now as another reviewer pointed out.

I was shocked at the price on here, and will wait until I''m near Target. BUT If You don''t drive this Is the #1 product as the site gives It #1.

It (THEY) really work.

I started using these because I have little kids who don''t always flush and because my plumber told me that the bleach tablets for the tank void my toilet warranty. So, I wanted something nice smelling when the kids (or I) eventually do flush. These things smell like toilet bowl cleaner and the scent is very strong. It was making my kitchen smell like toilet bowl cleaner, so I took it out after about two weeks. They also get kind of goey and drippy as they "melt". I have a very sensitive nose! Do they clean your bowl? No. Does it mask smell? Yes. And then some. It creates some bubbles too, no blue color though. I think I would be happier with an odor neutralizer. I''ll scrub my own bowl!!!

They do not clean. Since using these I''ve had to clean the bowl more often than when I was using nothing. They seem to speed up the creation of water line rings and discoloration. The product is worthless as a cleaner, only buy if you''re in it for the scent.

I was looking for my own brand of toilet bowl cleaner and freshener when I happened to see these. I stopped to take a peek at them as I had not seen them in the store and they looked simpler to use than what I had previously purchased. I read the product review and ordered one package in each scent. I waited to write a review until the cleaner had been put to use. Here is how it went.

I had previously used a cleaner/deodorizer that slipped over the edge of the toilet bowl just as this one does; however, it was in liquid form and had a little flange on the bottom of the disposer that allowed the water of the flushing toilet to leech some of the product out with each flush. Once the flange was situated correctly (and therein lay the problem with that product), it worked quite well. I really had no problem with the "working" of the product. But getting it in and out of the toilet was a messy, unpleasant task.

So when I saw that Lysol''s product was a solid, I decided immediately to switch brands. The worst that could happen would be that the new product had to be returned to Amazon. Since their return process is so easy, I decided to take a chance.

I have been using one Spring Waterfall disc in my front toilet and one Citrus disc in the back one. The front toilet is standard sized while the one in back is a "high riser." The disc cartridge fits both toilets easily. I measured the length of the hook that goes over the toilet lip and it is about 3 and a fourth inches wide, so I imagine it will fit most bowls. Just to be sure, take a look at yours before you buy. I found the hooking mechanism to be quite sturdy; although, one lady who used the "Lavender Fields" product had a problem with hers breaking. Hopefully this was an anomaly.

The instructions are on the back of the packet in writing and in pictures and are quite clear: 1. cut open the package 2. Put the product over the rim of the toilet under the seat 3. Dispose of when it is gone 4. Wash your hands.

Instructions are also available for what you should do if you get the product on you. For the sake of the reader of this review, I became a mini-scientist, and got the product all over my hands and forearms and left it there 10 minutes. I was unwilling to poke myself in the eye with the product on a finger, but in case you do that a number is on the back of the product so that you can call in the event that this should accidetally happen. After 10 minutes, I had no reaction at all to the chemicals in the disc. But if you are one of those unfortunate souls who is allergic to everything, you already know to wear gloves when you must do such procedures. Cleaning and Deodorizing: The disc has been in place 3 weeks now and it has been 2 weeks since the toilet was actually scrubbed. For that amount of time, it has seem normal use. It has also had to contend with a dead bird, the contents from my Bissel Sweeper, and occassionally a deposit of Kitty Litter approved for the toilet, has gone down its throat. Each toilet remains clean and white and each bathroom smells quite nice.

A great positive on this item is that it is supposed to last 8 weeks. My last product only lasted 4. Not having to deal with or think about the toilet is very good.

I feel that the cost of these discs, considering that they are delivered to my front door, and gas is almost $4.00 a gallon, is minimal. I just hope this becomes a "Subscribe and Save" item so that they may be delivered regularly relieving me of the responsibility of having to ''think'' about buying things for the toilet.

I got this system to replace my 12 yr old undersink filtration when it sprung a leak. How nice to not have to fight with the canister to change the cartridge. I suffered and struggled to make a decision on what type of "under the sink" water filtration system to buy. There are so may types, brands and configurations that I almost just stuck to bottled water. Boy am I glad I didn''t. I purchased this unit and installed it myself in about 2 hours. Great filter... there is no question the filters themselves are great. Very happy with them. HOWEVER, they come with plastic connector adaptors that allow you to tap into your under sink cold water supply which are complete waste of time. The core adaptor is plastic and interestingly enough they provided brass/metal 3/8" adaptors. Whether you use the adaptors or not, you will FAIL to connect to your water supply unless maybe your house has really, really, really terrible water pressure. Even then, I''m not sure you are going to get this to work. It is a complete waste of time. Rather than return the filter product altogether, I ended up buying another $10 metal connector part off of a water filter supply website (couldn''t find it on Amazon). Like I said, water filter is GREAT. Just do yourself a favor and don''t even both to think you''ll be lucky and somehow get that plastic connector to work. BTW, I noticed on the other web site that I ordered the metal connector adaptor that they had the plastic adaptor that comes with this kit on there as well. There were a total of 9 reviews for the product on that site for the plastic adaptor connector and they were all "1"s out of "5." Everyone complained that the plastic connector leaked.

With increasing concerns over the chemicals, drugs, protozoans, etc. appearing in municipal drinking supplies coupled with the generally poor quality taste of our drinking water, we opted to replace our sink mounted PUR filter system with an under sink mounted unit. Having used several varieties of water purification systems in the past, we were attracted to this unit for several reasons namely, 1) It''s compact size, 2) high quality, ultra-filtration three stage purification process removing sediment, chemicals, bacteria, cysts, etc. using a final stage 0.2 micron filter (don''t believe the Amazon check-list this unit removes biologicals), 3) It was not an RO system and therefore wouldn''t require electricity, waste water, remove minerals (including floride), or produce water in limited amounts.

The Watts system satisfied all of our requirements and to date has functioned quite well. The device installed easily and we opted to connect the unit directly to the cold water source as a dedicated supply to an bar-sink faucet. Alternatively, one could purchase a specialized accessory faucet and mount it next to an existing sink, though in our experience these faucets usually broke or leaked with repeated use. The 3-stage system produces copious amounts of clean, fresh tasting water and is extremely low maintenence one has to change two filters every six months followed by the hollow, micron-filter once a year. Watts recommends filter replacement on a rountine basis rather than incorporating a flow or time sensing device into the unit (our prior systems had these though they didn''t work or broke). Replacement filters cost approximately $70/year.
