STONETECH Revitalizer RTU Gallon

STONETECH Revitalizer RTU Gallon - CITRUS SCENTDue to my own inattention, I thought I was buying a gallon of the Stonetech floor cleaner which is to be diluted in water before using instead of the full strength spray cleaner for counters. However, I find this product works great on the vanity and kitchen counters.

This is all I use on my granite. Cleans them well with a great scent. Buy in larger quantity to save money.

Stonetech is the best..I would not use anything else. I use it to clean my kitchen every day. It smells good too.

Filtrete Water Station Replacement Bottles (2 Bottles) Save 19% Off

Filtrete Water Station Replacement Bottles, 2 Bottles, Colors Will VaryThese caps screw on which is great! The older style snap on caps broke easily and popped open when dropped. These have colored lids which make it simple to identify when you drink some and stick the rest in the fridge. They are BPA free which is a plus. So I have to say this is the one product I have ever used that has made such great improvements. I will order more of these.

I love this product. I use it every day. I love not spending as much $$ on bottled water. The ony draw back is that it tastes like drinking tap water. It does have a bit of taste to it, unlike bottled water that has a "non taste". The first few fill ups with a new filter it is more noticable, but that might just be because I didn''t flush the filter enough. But overall it works great. Now I just need to convince my family to start using them.

Also, I like the replacement bottles rather than the ones that come with the unit. I like that the have a screw on cap instead of the pop off cap. I may buy a few extras or see if I can by just the tops.

I would totally recommend this product.

I really like the Filtrete water station and replacement bottles. The water has such a CLEAN taste...better than most bottled water. It is a pain to fill 8 or 10 bottles at a time, but the water is so good, you can''t stop drinking it!

I''m a little disappointed in these bottles. The 4 that come with the kit have an unusual closure, the whole thing snaps down...pretty self explanatory from the photos. Problem is, the seals wear out QUICKLY if you put them even in the top rack of the dishwasher. But These are replacement, or additional bottles and I like that the caps are colored, nice when others are drinking from the bottles, and the plastic is strong and sturdy, been dropped a lot and take a beating. None have broken. My only complaint on these with with nice screw-tops is they are WAY expensive. Dang.

I HAD TO PURCHASE THIS ITEM AT A HIGHER PRICE BECAUSE IT SEEMS AMAZON DIDN''T GET THE MEMO THAT IT WAS OK TO SHIP THIS PRODUCT TO CALIFORNIA. THE HAZ MAT ISSUE WAS RESOLVED SOME TIME AGO. I HOPE BY NEXT YEAR WHEN I WILL NEED A REPLACEMENT IT WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE LOWER COST.

Maybe it is the housing for the filter, and not the filter, but this last time I replaced the filter, it was very tough to detach. It took a lot of strength to rotate and remove the filter. The same with installing the new one. Difficult to rotate and secure into place. The filter itself, once installed, is wonderful and lasts a year, which is a long time for something that gets used a lot everyday.

Filtron 30LD Deluxe Cold Brew Coffee System
  • Used for cold brew, hot brew, or milk drinks
  • Reduces acid in coffee during brewing
  • Cold brew coffee concentrate lasts up to 2 weeks
  • 1.5 liter brewer

I recently purchased a Toddy after losing my Filtron and just wanted to post on the relative merits of each. This might be premature but, so far, I see nothing to recommend the Toddy. With the Filtron you just pour the water into a separate container and it gently disperses. This is an incredibly low tech method of making coffee but I think monkeys could figure out that you just need a bucket with a hole in it to save yourself mess and time. Not so. With the Toddy you have to gently pour water over the coffee, wait, repeat... etc. Sure it looks kinda nice but it''s kinda labor intensive. The Filtron is simpler to "operate. It''s also pretty much bombproof. Make sure and buy extra plugs and filters as they can be easy to lose and hard to replace. These things do make amazingly good coffee.

Buy Filtron 30LD Deluxe Cold Brew Coffee System Now

The device makes 1.5 liters (50 ounces) of coffee out of 1 pound of coffee grounds in about 24 hours for 25 servings, depending on how strong you like your coffee. There are water level markings giving you the choice of making either 3/4 lb or 1 lb at a time. According to the manufacturer, the filter pad lasts for 14 to 24 brews. You soak the grounds for 12 to 24 hours, then drain the coffee from the grounds (about 1 hour). You have the option to brew again with 16 oz of water for another 12 hours to get the rest of the flavor out of the grounds.

Some web sites say that coffee made the cold brew way has about 1/3 less caffeine. The coffee does takes better, noticeably less acidic, but as I look over the device, I can''t help but wonder if it is an improvement over just soaking grounds in a bowl and then filtering them through either a coffee filter or cheese cloth. It is rather expensive for what it is. It''s rather lightweight plastic but since no heating is done, there really isn''t any need for it to be heavier. I suspect the price has to do with lack of economies of scale, there being slim demand for this product.

I agree with other reviewers'' comments--a good system, a little pricey, but low-hassle. I do find the measuring-cup container for the concentrate tricky to use because its stream tends to pull back from the spout, so it''s easy to miss the cup on the near side. These are my only reasons for a less-than-five review.

I''ve seen little discussion of kinds of coffee to use, but I like darker roasts made with the Filtron much better than with traditional methods, and I can more easily leave out the milk or cream from cold-brewed coffee.

Being able to take concentrate along makes it easy to make great iced coffee and latte while traveling.

BISSELL Steam & Sweep Pet Hard Floor Cleaner Save 24% Off

BISSELL Steam & Sweep Pet Hard Floor Cleaner, 46B43Be warnedthis is not a vacuum, it just has a rotating rubber material that is supposed to sweep material off the floor. It doesn''t work well with pet hair the entire premise of the design and name.... It doesn''t clean well either. There is always junk on the floor after we are done (probably because the sweeper is so awful). It was a waste of money and sitting in a closet. Back to swifter!

Pro: It does pick up dog hair. I live with a dog groomer who grooms out of our basement. The grooming room has indoor outdoor carpet and those pads that are comfortable to stand on so I could not test the Bissell steam and sweep in the grooming room. Instead I brought some dog hair upstairs and tried it in the living room on the hard floor. We have 3 schnauzers, non-shedding dogs all curious, and not in a good way, about this science experiment. The Bissell picked up all the dog hair I put down. It seems to work better if you sweep first and steam second. The dog hair was picked up by the rubber and deposited in the small container. (Which then needs to be cleaned manually out of the device. Green always seems to mean more manual labor)

Con: It does not pick up anything BUT dog hair. I couldn''t get it to pick up any type of dirt other than dog hair. Not small leaves or dust or small bits of food. Nothing. So I had to sweep with a regular broom first. Which I always do before I mop anyway but I certainly would rather if the sweeper part would sweep.

Pro: The steamer doesn''t get hot enough to compromise the flooring (this is a pro and a con). It does seem to get hot enough to clean though. The cloth pad was dirty when I was done and the floor was cleaner. Specifically, the middle of the floor was cleaner than when I started.

Con: The front of the swivel head that cleans is tapered. So if you have recessed counters you can only get under the counter by pointing the Bissell straight ahead and going under the counter swivel head first. So since the pad part that actually does the cleaning is ONLY IN THE BACK of the swivel head I could not clean under the recessed portion of my counters. So I had to go around and manually clean all the portions of the floor that are typically the dirtiest in my kitchen.

Notes: The device has a small footprint and fits easily into a closet. Easy to assemble and use. Light. The water container is small but holds enough to clean all the floors in my house.

In conclusion, if you are a dog groomer with hard floors and no recessed counters and you want to clean ''green'' then I think you would get a lot of use out of this Bissell. Otherwise, not so much.

UPDATE: If I put TWO of the cotton pads onto the bottom of the unit instead of just one (just rutch the first one down off the Velcro strips a bit to make room for a second pad) then I can get under the cabinets. This covers over the rubber sweeper part but that part was not working for me anyway. If I have a particularly dirty spot I have to squirt the area with mop and glo or some kind of cleaner first. If the floor is just regular dirty dusty then the steam works fine.

I love this product. It has made my life so much easier. I do sweep my floors and then use the sweeper. Darn it, it still picks up more dirt after I''ve swept. I find the steamer mop wonderful. My floors are shiny and clean. I am so old that I remember the days of a mop that you had to wring out my hand many times. I would have to get down on my hands and knees to finish up. I''ve given that up long ago but my floors suffered until I got this mop.

I have a chiweiner and a part chow-rot (who really sheds) and this Floor cleaner really picks up the hair. The cleaning pads are easy to use and I love that I just have to wash them instead of buying new pads (like a Swifter). My floors take less time to clean and look great. What''s not to like?

I was surprised to read many people didn''t like it. I think it''s a great product especially if you have pets. I am buying one for my daughter-in-law who has three cats. Now that''ll be a challenge.

This is the second Bissell steam unit I''ve reviewed for the Vine program. The first was better than this as far as the steam goes, but didn''t have the sweeper part. But both have the same problem with steam compared to the H2O mop I''ve been using for a few years. They just don''t compare.

This one seemed very well constructed and it will "stand up" all by itself, something the other two I have do not. It''s not too loud with the sweeper on, but the sweeper only performa marginally anyway. The real downside is how the sweeper detracts from the steam mop portion. Due to the location of the rubber sweeper, right in the front, that means you can''t get right up against a wall or any other edge when going forward, only when you''re going sideways. So that makes it more of a pain in constrained areas like bathrooms there is no way to get the floor with the steam mop section in many areas.

The sweeper works alright, even managed to snag a bag of screws I had on the floor next to some other things from when I was cleaning my junk drawer. It *does* pick up hair fairly well, so that part does its job (although when you go to release the bin, if you weren''t aware it drops straight down, you may get a surprise when you lift it up to hit the button and pull the catcher only to find gravity took over and it landed on the floor). Yes, that''s experience talking. I didn''t read the instructions for the bin, I had assumed it would slide out or something. Fortunately I didn''t have anything in it that could really "fall out" since it gets moist in there from the steam, so junk "sticks". You can''t just tap it and have the stuff fall out, you really need to wipe it down to get the bin clean.

But the steamer is the real problem. It doesn''t seem to get nearly as hot as my H2O mop or even the previous Bissell I reviewed. It doesn''t "power out" any marks on the floor. My good baseline is the small black streaks on my tile from my son if he drags his shoe on the floor. The H2O mop can remove that. This mop can''t. And some small piece of something that was a little stuck to the floor, it wouldn''t come out from this either, although it did come out from the other mop.

Too bad, since I really liked the construction, and the build quality. Engineering-wise it''s very well done. It can stand on its own as previously mentioned, it''s sturdy, the water tank is easy to remove / fill / replace / empty. The cord is longer than my other Bissell was and longer than the H2O mop so it has better range between rooms without having to keep moving where it''s plugged into.

But the fact that the whole surface underneath is not "steam mop" really detracts, as does the fact that it just doesn''t seem to get hot enough to really be effective. On the H2O mop I can actually see steam escaping around it as I use it, this one I could only see some misting on the clear surface of the bin''s window. No steam at all, just water condensation.

I think it would be more cost effective, and just more effective overall, to have a small sweeper if you really need it separate, and use a steam mop that is just a steam mop. This one just tried to be a few things and wasn''t capable of doing either very well.

Want BISSELL Steam & Sweep Pet Hard Floor Cleaner Discount?

This combo of mop and sweeper has some limitations, but for me with my physical limitations, it''s a real blessing. I''m very sensitive to many cleaning products. With this mop I don''t need to worry. It relies on steam alone to do the cleaning. I also have a lot of spine, shoulder, and knee problems that make any kind of housework difficult. This mop/sweeper lets me clean my floors with a lot less pain than other methods. No crawling around on hands and knees, and no tangling with old-fashioned mops.

This unit is easy to assemble. You''ll need to remove the water tank to find the hole for the screw to attach the handle. The instruction manual is excellent. It''s thorough and easy to understand.

I thought I''d have to sweep with a broom and dustpan before starting, but the sweeper feature used alone prior to mopping saves you that trouble. (You can also use the sweeper and mop simultaneously, which I have not tried.) I was impressed by how well the sweeper picked up dirt and hair from the floor. It won''t pick up stuff in the corners or along edges, but otherwise it works great. I like to do this step without the mop pad attached, so the pad won''t be collecting dirt before I start mopping.

A Couple Of Sweeper Drawbacks:

1) If there are any longer hairs, pet or human, on your floor, they will get wrapped tightly around the roller and the little wheels beside it. You''ll have to use scissors to remove this hair.

2)The dirt bin is easy to remove, but a little hard to reattach. You have to push quite hard and be sure it has really clicked back on. Sometimes even when I bang the whole unit hard on the floor, the dust bin still isn''t attached.

Once you''ve used the sweeper, attached the mop pad, and filled the water tank, you''re ready to mop. Distilled water is recommended, but the mop does have a filter, so you can use tap water if you choose. If you use tap water, you will have to replace the filter more often. The machine doesn''t use a lot of water, so I''d rather buy distilled water than have to order replacement filters.

The mop is a little hard to push while pressing the steam trigger. That''s something to consider if you have any weaknesses that might make this a problem for you. The mop does an admirable job of cleaning without chemicals. There were some especially dirty spots on my bathroom floor. I thought no way would it clean them, but it did. You just have to go slowly enough to let it work. And I love not having to wait for the floor to dry when I''m finished mopping.

Be very careful when you go to remove the mop pad. It will be extremely hot.

A Few Mop Limitations:

1) The mop doesn''t do very well on edges and tight spaces. You can play around with the swivel head, but there are some places it just won''t go. Behind the toilet, for example. Part of the problem is that the mop pad doesn''t extend to the front of the mop because the roller for the sweeper is in the way.

2) The mop will push some of the gunk it has lifted ahead of it rather than collecting it on the mop pad. That gunk will get deposited up against the baseboards. I just take a paper towel and wipe around the edges when I''m done mopping.

3) You have to wash the mop pad before you can use it again. So if you want to do bathroom and kitchen on the same day, it can be inconvenient unless you order a second mop pad.

4) While you''re mopping, a lot of moisture collects around the dirt bin and sweeper roller. You''ll need to wipe that away or wait for it to dry before using the sweeper again.

As you can see, there are some frustrations involved with using this product. My rating is 3.5 stars, rounding up to 4 stars because I really like its cleaning power.

Essick Air 427-300 2-Speed Evaporative Console Humidifier and Air Cleaner

Essick Air 427-300 2-Speed Evaporative Console Humidifier and Air CleanerUp here in the deep north it is essential to have humidifier if you have musical instruments, or anything made out of nice wood. I have tried several different options, and evaporative humidifiers are the best. This one has enough nice features to warrent an excellent rating. The main great feature is that it is easy to add water to the system. The tanks remove easily, and can be filled from the kitchen sink (they are too tall for filling in a bathroom sink). In the dead of winter expect to fill it daily, but fortunately this is big enough to only need filling once per day. Other nice features include a fan speed control (pump humidity in fast because you were gone all weekend and its dry), or quiet. At low speed settings you barely know its on. I also like the optional air cleaning evaporator. It apparently slows down air flow, but that seems trivial since the fan can simply be turned up.

Operationally its five stars all the way. My wife thinks its looks could be improved.i.e. it has a "too plasticy" look. Service (getting it operational) via telephone was concise and correct.

Received this product, set it up and the humidity level knob wasn''t working correctly, it was put on at the manufacturer incorrectly, which is no fault of Amazon, just got a lemon.

So I decided instead of contacting Amazon, to contact Essick Air and they sent a replacement motor section.

Essick Air was very helpful and eager to assist.

Received new motor and set humidifier up again. After the first bottle ran out and was filled again, noticed it was running continuously, checked the water bottles and both were bone dry and so was the wick.

The empty bottle indicator lights did not come on, so not sure how long the unit ran without having water in the bottles or the wick.

I now just make sure to check the bottles every other day to ensure they have water in them.

I had the same brand unit for approximately 15+ years prior to purchasing this one and I can say that the craftmanship of this cabinet and all components fitting correctly has depleted.

Again, this is no fault of Amazon.

Other than what I have stated, it does do the job of putting humidity into the house. Just wish now, that I had contacted Amazon and requested to return this unit and have another sent.

WINNER: After much deliberation and research for a quality humidifier, I took function over form in this model and am very glad I did. Some reviews commented on the "tacky plastic" housing but I didn''t think it an issue. If anything, it helps with the weight of the item and it''s easy to keep clean.

PERFORMANCE: The 2 fan speeds are just right. I turn it on high @ night to do most of it''s work and on low and comfortable setting during the day. The low fan setting is whisper quiet. I have it in my living room and don''t need to elevate the TV volume at all!

SET-UP: EASY! Just read the directions! Not as much space needed a I thought.

Added bonus: No distilled or soft water required. Not a luxury I have in my home so this unit wins again.

EASE OF USE: If you don''t think this is the simplest and most efficient investment then I wish you luck on your humidifier endeavors. It doesn''t have all the "bells and moderns whistles" of some models, but I also don''t have to fuss or worry about maintenance, refilling, or cleaning challenges. Tried and true model.

It works in large spaces we have almost 2000 sq ft (one level). It is loud if you turn it on full blast. We turn it on when we are asleep or gone for errands and then turn it off. The large water container is awesome. We fill it about once a week and keep our house between 35 and 45 humidity. We also live in the desert. I highly recommend it. It is large -comparable to a small coffee table. If you want something with little maintenance and works in large spaces this is it. If you have a smaller space and want it to be quiet this is not it.

ERP1000-JG-S - Aquatec Permeate Pump 10-100 GPD

ERP1000-JG-S - Aquatec Permeate Pump 10-100 GPDI had purchased one of these permeate pumps for my reverse osmosis system from Apec several years ago. The reason I purchased it was because I ran a PVC line outside to the back of my refrigerator to provide filtered water for my ice maker and drinking water on the front of the frig. However, when I did this, the water pressure was so low, it would take forever to get a glass of water. However, once I installed this pump into my system, it made an incredible difference in the amount of water pressure I was getting. So, I would highly recommend this pump to whoever might be having low water pressure from their R/O system. My first pump lasted about five years, so I purchased this replacement. The nice thing is that it works off of the water pressure itself, so there is no electricity needed to run it.

Let me start off by saying this permeate pump was supplied with my reverse osmosis system, I did not purchase it from Amazon. Over the last two years I have gone through 3 of these pumps. My first pump lasted 12months, the second about 5months, and I think my third pump is dying after only a few months. There really is only one way to install it, so it''s not like I messed up the installation. It''s a nice feature to have when its working properly and it definitely increased the amount and pressure of RO water produced...but these units just don''t last. I can only figure the good reviews are based on pumps that have not been installed very long. I tried to contact the manufacture but they didn''t reply. I''ve read better reviews with the ERP-500 but I won''t risk being burned again. My warrantee is over and I will not be purchasing a replacement from this company, I''m going to an electric booster pump by a different manufacture, I hope that will be the answer. I was excited when I saw this pump was made in the USA, but this thing is junk and not worthy of such a label.

I have 90 psi of water pressure in my home but somehow the pressure coming out of my reverse osmosis system is a bit low. Maybe cause I have it running under the floor and feeding the icemaker in the refrigerator also. Anyway... add this very well designed device to your system and you can get enough pressure to fill a 12 cup coffee carafe in just about 20 seconds or so (on my system anyway). 1/4" press-fit lines. It does make a "spitting" sound every so often but it isn''t bothersome (I have my system under the kitchen sink). The incredibly interesting thing about this device is that it is able to boost pressure in your Reverse Osmosis tank without any external power. Really... I would like to take it apart and see how the hell that is done!! This is my 2nd one. My first one lasted about 5 years. Since it does have some moving parts inside it -it will wear out.

Oh yeah... I searched the Internt and got it here because it was the best price I could find. Other places were $65 on upward and one well over $100! Good to shop around. 15 minutes to install.

I have no complaints about the reliability or performance of this unitit was very easy to install and best of all it requires no electricity.

I bought this pump on 6-28-2009 and its still going strong. I use it for drinking water, maintaining two 75gal aquariums and various houseplants, so I would say probably heavier than average usage. DEFINITELY a worthwhile upgradeoverall better pressure and the recovery rate is much faster, so I assume its also saving a ton of water.(never compared before and after...)

My only complaint would be it''s a bit noisy, so try to mount it on a solid surface(like concrete). Mine is mounted to a wood wall in the basement and the ''clicking'' noise is transmitted into the structure so you can hear it upstairs a little bit. It really doesn''t bother me, but I know some people are more sensitive.

(the ERP500 is supposedly quieter, but its warranty is only 13mo instead of the 25mo on the ERP1000)

Hoover Spot Scrubber Save 26% Off

Hoover Spot Scrubber, FH10025THIS THING IS AWESOME!!!I purchased this to take care of my son''s bedwetting accidents when he comes into my room during the middle of the night. It pulls more liquid back out of the mattress than any other spot cleaner or the upholstery attachment from my carpet cleaner. When it arrived, I decided to go back over my mattress to see if it would take out the water marks left from the other machines I''d tried -it took all of them out & left my mattress looking brand newfinished up around 4:30 pm and the mattress was completely dry & ready for bedding well before 8 that same daynot possible with any of the bissel products I tried. The hard surface attachment is a nice feature of well & did a very nice job on the kitchen tile grout.

The only negative/cons I can come up with for this item is the fill line on the dirty reservoir side is a bit lower than what the tank has capacity for, the heads are a little difficult to detach, but I''m more than willing to put up with it for the amount of liquid it pulls out of a fabric surface, and the last would be the length of the hoseit could be a little bit longer to make cleaning items like a mattress easier.

One other word of cautionbe prepared for the amount of dirt this thing will pull out of whatever surface you use it on!!!This thing is great!

This product has a couple design flaws: 1) the sprayer sprays about 10-12 inches beyond each side of the nozzle so the water/solution gets all over the place, 2) the clean tank is about 25% larger than the dirty tank, so you have to stop and empty the dirty tank before the clean tank is empty...and removing the dirty tank requires removing the clean tank and during this whole process water leaks all over.

The quality control on this product is really bad. I knew I was in trouble right away when I opened the directions and they started at #2. Also, on the side of the unit itself the word "machine" is misspelled. Water leaks everywhere. One good thing is that it comes with the hard floor attachment which came in handy to clean up all the leaked water when I was done.

It did do a fair job of cleaning spots. I just had to clean a 3 foot radius around the spots and change my clothes when I was done.

I was looking for a spot remover since I have 2 dogs and 3 cats. So far, it has been great! There is no heater in it but it still removes the stains pretty good. The sprayer does spray pretty wide but once you figure it out then it is no big deal. It is easy to clean and I just rinse the nozzle with the brush after I use it. The suction power is actually better than I expected especially since other reviews said it was weak. I like that it is narrow so it will sit on the stairs easily while I clean. I would recommend this product.

This product is bigger than I expected at about 16" high. The dirty tank is easier to clean than my old SpotBot''s. My spray nozzle aims at the top of the bristles on the 3" carpet/upholstery nozzle and sprays wider than them, so there is considerable overspray on both sides of the attachment.

I bought this to replace a SpotBot Bissell SpotBot Pet Hands-Free Compact Deep Cleaner, Blue Illusion, 1200A with a busted hose and hand spray nozzle the repair shop kept it for a week before saying it couldn''t be fixed.

Bialetti 6800 Moka Express 6-Cup Stovetop Espresso Maker Save 16% Off

Bialetti 6800 Moka Express 6-Cup Stovetop Espresso MakerEvery family in Italy owns one of these machines. Here are a few tips:

1. In Italy this is NOT called an espresso machine, but a Moka machine. An espresso is what you would drink in bar made with a steam or high pressure machine with the crema on top.

2. Smaller size Moka machine tend to make better coffee.

3. Never wash the Moka with detergents, just rinse it under tap water

4. You''ve gotta use it often for a good coffee.

5. If you haven''t use it in a while, make a weak coffee ("lungo") and discard

6. DO NOT put the MOka in the dishwasher.

7. Use drinking water. Avoid tap water especially if very chlorinated

8. Never compress the coffee.

9. For a strong coffee fill the filter with ground coffee and make a small cupola that slightly protrudes beyond the rim. Do not press down.

10. For best coffee, heat at very low heat. It''s ok if it takes 10min.

11. As soon as coffee reaches the top, remove from heat

12. Do not let the coffee boil

13. Use good quality coffee, not too strong, medium grind (try Illy for a good commercial brand)

14. Sip while still hot, enjoy!

15. (Added Nov 2012) Wait until all the water has reached the upper chamber before removing from the heat. You will be able to tell by the sound (takes some practice) or simply visually. As soon as no more coffee reaches the upper chamber remove from heat. Do note let the coffee boil. With practice, you may remove from the heat even sooner, by just using the residual heat in the lower chamber.

16. (Added Nov 2012) Some times you may put too much coffee, or the coffee is too finely ground, or it''s been packed too hard. In all of these situations, the end results is typically that the coffee struggles reaching the upper chamber. You can tell by the spouting noise occurring too early, the foam occurring too early, and how slow the whole process is. You can try increasing the heat if that helps. However, you will likely end up with a coffee that is too bitter and tastes burned. Back in the old days, this was dangerous business with many machines exploding (they had no safety valves). Regardless, your coffee is ruined and I would suggest removing it frmo the heat immediately, let it coold down and starts all over.

17. (Added Nov 2012) What kind of coffee should I use? Experiment, experiment, experiment! Here are some tips I have learned by experimenting. Until you become confortable with the operations of the machine, you can use a good commercial brand like Illy (although it''s quite expensive). I wouldn''t want you to blame the machine, just because you happened to use a bad coffee. Then start trying different varieties from different roasters. If there are independent roasters near you, why not giving them a try? I haven''t had good experience with roasts marketed towards Espresso machines (I find the roast too excessive). Try to buy whole beans and grind them yourself. I find the cheap and popular brands pretty bad for Mokas, even if they happen to make good American style brews. I have had pretty good luck with small roasters and Colombian varieties (or Costa Rican). I have also had outstanding African coffees (Ethiopian). Unfortunately, I found they are seldom consistent.

About 12 years ago I was in Milan, and a friend gave me one of these to take home. I have used it nearly every day since (I don''t take it out of town), so that should give you an idea of how sturdy it is. It is the best coffee maker I have ever owned. To compare, I also have a high-tech espresso machine with frother; a state-of-the-art automatic drip coffeemaker; a French Press; and a different style of stovetop maker, which, surprisingly, makes a different brew. But I ALWAYS go back to my Bialetti Moka 6-cup for the best espresso and lattes. You even will get a crema effect with this simple pot. For lattes, I simply fill half a coffee mug with milk, heat it in the microwave until it''s hot, and then top it off with espresso. It''s low-maintenance -every once in a while I replace the internal rubber gasket, which costs a buck or so, depending upon where you buy it. If you like your coffee like the Italians and the Cubans, then you will like the brew this serves. I am loyal to this simple little pot, and hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Works great on the stovetop, works great when you''re CAMPING..!!! No plugs, no cords, no nonsense -fill the lower half with water to the indicated mark, put your grounds in the upper basket, join the two halves, wait for it to gurgle and you have EXCEPTIONALLY DELICIOUS espresso the way it ought to be made.

The device is simple and beautifully made. I''d recommend the six-cup version, the smaller versions just don''t make very much espresso -I mean, get the six-cup version if there are two of you, since that will make an adequate amount.

Really a brilliant product. I wish that everything was so well-designed and robust. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

***DO NOT OVERHEAT!***DO NOT OVERHEAT!***DO NOT OVERHEAT!***

There. I''ve done my good deed, and passed along the warning for the next person. Reading the translated-to-English directions, it''s easy to miss this important cautionary note. In fact, it''s not even IN the directions. It''s written on the side of the box.

But fortunately, before my Moka Express ever arrived, I read another reviewer''s cautionary note about avoiding HIGH heat (which can destroy the rubber gasket), so I didn''t have any problem from the get-go.

And speaking of ''get-go'' here''s the deal. The FIRST time out (actually the second time, because the directions recommend that you dispose of the first batch), I had THE *BEST* ESPRESSO I EVER HAD. PERIOD. BAR NONE.

Using some Columbian coffee (that a friend had actually hand-carried from Columbia a few weeks ago), and setting my smallest burner (it''s a ceramic-top stove) to just under "5" (10 being the hottest), the espresso that came out of this coffeemaker was INCREDIBLY smooth, and totally without the bitter taste that it can sometimes have.

If this is the result after using it ONCE, I''m looking forward to seeing how good it gets after I''ve had a chance to figure out the best combination of type of coffee/amount to use/fineness of grind/etc.

Also, for the price, it absolutely cannot be beat. The full pot yielded about six double-shots, so after just one use, it''s almost half paid for!

I''m going to be drinking a lot more espresso. And cappuccino. And cafe-au-lait.

Oh well. Who needs sleep? It''s overrated anyway! ;-)

-Jonathan Sabin

UPDATE... We put it in the dishwasher today.

DON''T make this mistake!

When we pulled it out at the end of the cycle, the shiny aluminum exterior had turned into a pretty ugly, uneven, dull finish. I''m sure it''ll still work just fine, but it sure doesn''t look as nice as it did before.

(ONE other review, among the 48 thusfar, mentions the dishwasher issue, but doesn''t say why.)

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE... It''s taken about 3 months, but a BUNCH of hand-cleaning has finally reverted our Bialetti to its former shiny state! It''s STILL making the best espresso/cappucino I''ve ever had!

Want Bialetti 6800 Moka Express 6-Cup Stovetop Espresso Maker Discount?

My wife and I have been spending a pretty penny at the local coffee shop, so I began looking for inexpensive home alternatives. Most of the coffee snobs claim you have to purchase a $200+ machine and $150+ grinder to have a decent cup of espresso. I turned instead to the frugal Italians. They did invent the stuff, afterall. My Bialetti Moka Express coffee pot came this afternoon. I was a little concerned that a $20 pot might not meet the high standards of the gourmet beverages wifey and I have become accustomed to. I was wrong. The brew made by this ingenious little pot is a little weaker than "pumped" espresso and lacks the foamy cap (crema) that all the snobs rave about, but mixed with some hot, frothed milk and a bit of chocolate syrup I couldn''t tell the difference between Bialetti and Seattle''s Best.

This rich brew comes from a tiny little aluminum contraption with no moving parts, no electronic gizmos, no pump handle and virtually no wait time or clean-up. You just fill, brew and pour. It''s that simple. Its base only covers half of the stovetop''s smallest eye and I expect it will be easy to store due to its diminuitive size. I''ve already had three cups of homemade mocha today, and I''ve only had the pot since noon! *jitter jitter* The point is this: If you''re a coffee lover who is bored with Folgers from a Mr. Coffee drip machine or is spending way too much at Starbucks, the Moka pot is an inexpensive and easy-to-use alternative with excellent results.

Sprite Pure Spray Filtered Showerhead in Chrome Save 22% Off

Sprite Pure Spray Filtered Showerhead in Chrome
  • Removes chlorine, dirt, odors and more
  • Uses filter cartridge model SLC
  • One replaceable filter cartridge inside
  • Attaches to existing shower arm
  • Eight spray functions including massage

I write this review concurrently with my review of a Culligan WSH-C125 Wall-Mount 10,000 Gallon Capacity Filtered Showerhead, Chrome Finish to give you some history. Especially since there''s no history here at Amazon.

We''ve had the Sprite AM-8 for about three years now. (Bought it locally from Home Depot or Lowe''s.) It''s performed okay, except that the massage feature used in three of the eight settings, has been problematic. As in, stopped working.

We have a water softener on city water. No scale or crud. Even so, I soaked the Sprite in vinegar just to clean any crud out that might be in the channel the massage ball races around. No difference. It used to work, but over time, stopped working.

So when it came time for the 3rd filter change (we replace the filter once a year), I decided to buy a different brand filtered shower head instead. (See my 4 star review of the Culligan, if interested.)

Apparently we have high water pressure (new house construction, large plastic pipes) and some of the 8 settings-like fine medium spray and full-fine spray-were indistinguishable to us. Even if there had been a difference, I only alternated between massage and no massage. So three, five or eight settings? More of a marketing gimmick IMO.

From an ergonomics perspective I like the Sprite better than the Culligan. There''s a tang on the selector bezel of the Sprite which makes it easier to turn when your hands are wet.

And the Sprite KDF filters are clear, whereas the Culligan are not. The nice thing about a clear filter is that you can easily tell when it''s time to replace it. The media turns black. And the Sprite filters are a little cheaper than the Culligan. ($10 vs. $12 on Amazon as of this writing.)

The Culligan is cheaper out of the box and seems to work fine. Time will tell if its massage feature will work three years from now.

I give them both 4 stars. You''ll be happy with the Sprite, at least for a while. If your water pressure isn''t as high as ours, it may be that your unit will last longer.

Austin Air HEGA (Allergy Machine) Jr Replacement Filter

Austin Air HEGA Jr Replacement Filter w/ Prefilter - SandstoneI purchased a pre-owned Health Mate Plus Jr. from eBay. The unit had the more expensive Superblend filter in it, but was about 6 years old. A rep at Austin recommended this HEGA filter for my application (cigarette smoke) versus the more expensive Superblend. I really appreciated her integrity in not just pointing me to the most expensive filter to get the $$$.

This filter/unit work great. I am very pleased with its performance.

Mr. Coffee JWX23 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, BlackI''ve had two of this same model. The first just stopped working after a few months and was replaced by the company. The second leaks all over the countertop even though I wasn''t overfilling. When I called the company, I was told they had had no complaints about this, but there are numerous complaints about the same issue with this model on the internet.

Won''t buy Mr. Coffee again.

Worked fine for three months, then just stopped heating. Lights come on, relays click, but neither the pot warmer nor the water heater heat up. This pot is the epitome of "you get what you pay for".

I have purchased 2 of these Mr. Coffee machines. Both from Target. I normally only make 4 cups during the week and 8 to 9 cups on the weekend. The first machine went back just before the expiration date on my receipt. If I made more than 8 cups the coffe grinds in the filter backed up to the top of the filter and into the coffee pot. I hate grounds in my coffee. If I wanted that I would make "Cowboy Coffee".

The 2nd machine is still in my house. Today was the worse day yet. We were given some Starbucks coffee. I made 9 cups and yep, the grounds overflowed again. But worse this time. I had kept my receipt, but low and behold it was over the expiration date. Not sure which machine I will buy now. I have been using Mr. Coffee for years...........

I love how easy it is to program! I only wish that it would keep the hotplate warm for longer.

Want Mr. Coffee JWX23 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Discount?

I''ve had many coffee makers over the years, from really expensive to dirt-cheap. This coffee maker, by far, is my favorite so far. It brews quickly, with two brew strength settings, normal and strong. It''s very easy to program, with the buttons on top so that nothing can ever spill on them. I like the soft alarm that lets me know when the brewing is done, and when the hot plate shuts off. Cleaning is a snap with the special cleaning cycle. If there is a weak point, it''s probably the enclosed manual. Reading it makes the programming and usage of this machine sound way more complicated than it is. All in all, a great coffee maker, just keep the manual for reference but don''t read it.

Whirlpool WHEMB40 Undersink Water Filtration System

Whirlpool WHEMB40 Undersink Water Filtration SystemGreat filter design cheap plastic water facet but for the price just do it. If you can''t install this filter system properly then get a plumber to do it for you, but it is super easy, had no problems with the install, but I am very handy guy. Install is straight forward you either got it or your plumber or handy man should do for you. I have this filter system for 6 months now no problems no leaks just exception water from a major manufacturer whirlpool. It did a amazing job, to tast of our water in my kitchen, better than bottle water for us. I upgraded the water facet to a better suited one to match my facet design, but this still is not our problem here. Replacement filters are hard to find and non existent on Amazon or I would give it 5 stars if I could just use Amazon to reorder replacement fllters for this system. If you are able to get the replacement filters then it is a great system with outstanding water performance and easy of use. To keep the water condition good replacing filters every 6 months is recommended, and replacing the filters are just a simple half turn away. I like Amazon bc u usually get better deal than retail, this is not the case here at $200 use google instead. Filter replacement direct whirlpool no problem, like I said earlier wish Amazon would sell it replacement filters and complete package at competitive price.

It''s unfortunate to say this is a Terrible Product. I could not and would not suggest to anyone to buy this Filtration System. Whirlpool makes great products but this one (Water Purifier; WHEMB40)is NOT one of them.

The instructions were easy and were followed as written; making sure all lines/tubing were installed correctly; slowly turning water on; etc., etc. After about 5 seconds of turning on the water valve; WATER, WATER, WATER leaked everywhere under our kitchen sink cabinet!

The brochure lists a "Troubleshooting" section. This list only Troubleshoots for water leaking ''from the Tubing''; suggesting maybe tubing is not inserted far enough into the unit.

This was not the issue we were having. We were experiencing the Gushing Leaks from the TOP of "Filter #1" where it meets the Main Plastic "Head Unit".

After going back over the instructions to make sure we follow step by step including an hour of inspection of unit we discovered a Crack inside the plastic base where Filter #1 attaches to the Main Unit.

Giving the benefit of a doubt (being a well known maker; Whirlpool) we took the unit back and return for another one.

It''s such a let down to say; that unit was if not just as bad worse than the first one. This time we again experienced cascades of Water Everywhere! The Second unit; just as before had a hairline crack inside the Main plastic Head Unit where Filter #3 attached. Only this time the crack was in the inside Top of the Main plastic Head Unit itself.

Agitated; frustrated and thoroughly disappointed in this product we''ve returned it again but, Will Not purchase another. The manufucturer needs to evaluate and resolve many, many issues in the structure of the WHEMB40 Water Purifier System.

Our water purification/filtration system will be purchaced from Another Manufucturer.

Sorry Whirlpool.

Evidently the reviewer that gave this 5 stars did not fully read the 1 star review, which stated their filter had cracks in the housing. This is not an installation problem but a manufacturing one. For the record mine also came with hairline cracks right out of the box. They were practically invisible until the unit became pressurized. Then it was water everywhere! Obviously the weight of the filters was more than the flimsy plastic head unit could survive in shipping. If you have a good one be thankful and don''t twist those filters too hard when you replace them. This product needs a beefier head unit.

We live in the country with water that tastes great and has always passed every annual battery of tests. Nonetheless, after a kidney transplant, I was advised not to drink untreated well water. I consulted with water professionals all of whom wanted to install softeners, reverse osmosis, etc. at high cost. I also trudged gallons of water from the grocery for a while. This filter system is a bargain (lets hope Whirlpool''s testing is valid and reliable.)

We''ve had the filter for a couple years. Here are key points:

1. The faucet: It looks fine, works fine, but it''s cheap plastic. Someday I may replace it.

2. Installation: It took a couple hours primarily because I chose to install it in a difficult place, not because it''s difficult to install.

3. Leaking filter: I''ve changed the filters 2-3 times now. The last time, when I turned the water back on, one of the filters was leaking badly at the top. I turned off the water, removed the filter, then reinstalled the filter making sure to do it properly. Voila -no leak.

4. A savings idea: We only use this for my drinking water, coffee, etc. I hooked-up our refrigerator water line to the filtered output line, negating the need to buy fridge filters every six months. That''s a BIG savings. It turns out that all I had to do is remove the refrigerator filter, and the refrigerator automatically operates without it. Your refrigerator may or may not do the same check the instructions.

5. A WARNING: Don''t trust the little light on the faucet that tells you when to buy new filters. Mine turns on at the end of four months, not the six months recommended in the instructions.

Want Whirlpool WHEMB40 Undersink Water Filtration System Discount?

This filter was so easy to set up, quite literally 3 snaps and the filter is hooked up. The long part was cutting and sweating the copper, shut offs, and male adapters. After all the nessecary plumbing was hooked up you connect three shark bite type pex connectors, and your ready to use! Never had one leak from the unit and it flows like a champ! No resiviour to deal with like a reverse osmosis system, just clean purified water when you need it.

Frigidaire FRA086AT7 8,000 BTU Window-Mounted Compact Air Conditioner Save 10% Off

Frigidaire FRA086AT7 8,000 BTU Window-Mounted Compact Air Conditioner with Temperature Sensing Remote
  • 8,000 BTU cooling capacity with variable speed fan
  • Cools room sizes up to 350 sq. ft.
  • 8-way air direction control
  • Anti-bacterial mesh filter type, tilt-out filter access
  • Electronic controls

I am reviewing the Frigidaire FRA086AT7 8,000 BTU Mini Compact Window Air Conditioner. I am giving this AC a good review, but will mention a few things I didn''t like about it. All of the complaints are minor, except for one, which was a problem for me, but might not be for you. I''ll start with the background information, then list the features, and then list the good points and bad points.

Background Information:

This is a great AC with many features, good looks, digital display, remote control, and it cools the room very well. I''m using it installed in a window for my bedroom. Mine is 8,000 BTUs, but Frigidaire has similar models with different BTUs. It only comes in White. Even though it is described as "Mini Compact," it appears very sturdy and well-made and isn''t really that small. Installation was a breeze because the unit weighs only about 50 lbs. It comes with the AC unit, a window installation kit, a nice manual, foam that you can put between the windows, and self-adhesive weatherstripping to cover any openings. All hardware is included. You just need a Phillips screwdriver to install it and a drill if you want to screw the top of the unit into your window. It is Energy-Star Compliant. The warranty is ONE YEAR Full Coverage and FIVE YEARS for the AC compressor.

Features:

* It has a green LED digital display with membrane button controls. You press buttons to control the unit. There are no knobs. Membrane means that all the buttons are covered by hard plastic and you press the label on the plastic that covers the buttons underneath. Each button press emits a beep, but if you hold the temperature/timer button down, it scrolls faster and only beeps once.

* It has buttons for On-Off, Mode, Fan Speed, Temp/Timer Up, Temp/Timer Down, Timer, Sleep, Filter Reset, and Clean Air.

* The Green Digital display shows the Temperature and Timer. Normally, when the unit is on Cool or Econ, it shows the temperature you have set, like a thermostat. However, when the fan only is on, it shows the actual temperature in the room. When you are setting the Timer, it displays the count-down timer.

* It has green LEDs for the 3 modes, the 4 fan speeds, whether the digital display is showing Fahrenheit, Centigrade, or Timer, Timer On, Sleep On, Filter Reset On, Clean Air On, and Remote Sensing On.

* You turn the unit on and off and it remembers your last settings. You press Mode to select from Cool, Econ, or Fan Only. Econ is Economy Mode that cycles the AC compressor on and off, once it reaches the set temperature, to conserve energy.

* Fan Speeds are Low, Med, High, so you have 3 speeds for both the AC and fan. The AC also has Auto Fan, which regulates the fan speed automatically for you. It comes on full blast when you first turn it on, then gradually lowers the fan speed as it reaches your desired temperature.

* The Up and Down buttons are used to set the temperature on the digital display. You can set it from 60 degrees to 90 degrees and display it as either Fahrenheit or Centigrade. These buttons are also used to set the Timer.

* The Timer button allows you to program the unit to either turn on or shut off one time over a 24 hour period.

* The Sleep button raises the temperature you have set by 2 degrees, one half hour after you activate it, and then by another 2 degrees, half an hour later. Then it keeps this temperature for the next 7 hours. It sounds more confusing than it is. Basically, you can activate the Sleep feature when you go to sleep. It assumes an 8-hour sleep cycle. So if you set the temperature for 72 degrees, then an hour after you go to sleep, it will be set for 76 degrees for the next 7 hours, and then go back to 72. The theory is that it you can fall asleep with the temperature you have set, and it can gradually get a bit warmer during the night, without it disturbing you, plus, it will prevent you from becoming too cold.

* Filter Reset has an LED that lights after every 250 hours of use. When it lights, it reminds you to clean the filter. After you clean it, you press the button to turn off the LED and reset it. Then it will remind you after the next 250 hours of use.

* Clean Air is a built-in Air Ionizer and Purifier. If you turn it on, it will automatically remove dust and impurities from the air while either the AC or fan is running.

* It has two separate air vent openings at the top that can be controlled independently.

* The enclosed remote (2 AAA batteries included) has an unlit LCD Display that shows the actual temperature at the remote, presumably that is where you are sitting. You can control everything from the remote, except the Filter Reset and the Clean Air Filter. A red LED blinks when you press a button. You can also turn Remote Sensing on and off from the remote. When it''s on, a corresponding LED blinks on the AC unit to show it''s activated. Normally, the unit controls the temperature, based on what the temperature is at the AC unit itself. When Remote Sensing is on, the unit then controls the temperature based on what the temperature is where the remote is located.

Good Points:

* Cools fast and extremely well.

* Very quiet.

* 6 foot long, 3-prong power cord, so you probably won''t need an extension cord.

* Remembers your last settings, even if the unit is shut down due to a power failure.

* Auto Fan speed is very nice and is similar to digital climate control in a car, plus you have the other 3 manual fan speeds.

* Sleep feature is a nice touch to prevent you from getting too cold while sleeping.

* Reminds you when to clean the filter.

* Air ionizer is a good idea and makes you wonder, why didn''t someone think of this before.

* Very attractive looking unit.

* Remote control adds a level of convenience, but it is the temperature display right on the remote that is an added bonus. Plus, having the unit control the temperature right where you are with the remote is very nice.

* Small and easy-to-remove air filter. It slides out from the top.

* Very energy efficient and the increase in my electric bill is much less than with other AC units I have owned.

Bad Points:

* Can''t speak French. (Honeymooners'' reference.) ;)

* It''s slightly annoying that if the AC is on, you have to cycle it to Fan to display the actual temperature in the room, and then set it back to AC. There should have been a separate toggle button that would allow you to view either the temperature you set or the room temperature right on the AC unit itself. There is a temperature display on the remote, but when I am closer to the unit than the remote, I often use the unit to see what the temperature in the room is.

* The vent is always closed. It''s the first AC unit that I''ve owned that strangely doesn''t have a Vent Open and Vent Closed control. A number of my other ACs have Vent Open, Vent Closed, and Exhaust controls. It''s not that big a deal, but with all of its other features, I wonder why this very basic control was left out.

* When you press a button on the unit, the beeps are very loud.

* For many people, the Timer feature will be a great thing, but I have been spoiled. The Frigidaire unit I am reviewing is replacing a Carrier AC that lasted me 21 years! The Carrier worked perfectly from 1988 until the end of summer 2009 and then it broke. I replaced it with this unit.

The Carrier was ahead of its time and it also had a timer. It was an analog timer, but it allowed you to turn the unit on or off, at hour intervals, as many times as you wanted over a 24 hour period. That might sound like overkill, but I would use it to turn the AC on one hour before I came home from work and then shut off 2 hours later, just in case there was some emergency and I didn''t make it home right after work. Normally, I would come home, the room was nice and cool, and then I would turn the timer off. But just in case, I had the peace of mind knowing the AC would shut off in 2 hours, instead of staying on all night, if I didn''t make it home.

You can''t do that with the Frigidaire. You simply set a countdown timer and when it reaches zero, the unit will turn on, if it is off, or turn off, if it is on. Also, you have to set the timer every time you use it. With the Carrier, you could set the programmed times once, and then just turn the timer on when you wanted to activate it. Again, this is not that big of a deal and many people may not even use the Timer.

* The major drawback for me and the only thing that prevented me from giving the unit a 5-Star Rating was that the air-directional controls are absolutely horrible. I''m talking about the opening at the top of the unit where the air blows out from. I honestly can''t understand how such a nice unit could be so deficient in this regard. They really missed the boat on this one.

All the ACs I''ve had over the years had very similar air-direction controls and they all worked great. Basically, they all had little handles, where you could rotate the vent flaps either left or right. Then there were also up/down flaps, where you could direct the air to blow upward. The bottom line is that you could control the direction of the air flow beautifully.

With the Frigidaire, they advertise it as 8-way air control. If you look at the picture you can see that you can control the left and right vents separately. So the left vent can be controlled left-right-up-down and that''s 4 ways. Then the same for the right vent, makes 8 ways. Well, it sounds good on paper, but the vents simply do a bad job of controlling the direction of the air flow.

Each vent has a knob that you rotate to presumably control the left-right air flow. Then, you can also click each vent either up or down. Well, if you look at the picture you can see that a plastic rod with small plastic circles on it controls the left-right air flow. The problem is that these plastic circles don''t go all the way to the top of the unit, so air ALWAYS blows straight ahead, no matter how you adjust the controls. If you adjust them full left and full right, some air will be directed left and right, but the majority of air will still blow straight ahead. To add insult to injury, the up/down controls are totally useless. They don''t swivel, allowing you to position them at numerous up/down positions. There are only 2 positions. Straight ahead or you can click them up one notch, which raises them up about a quarter of an inch. They are useless because they only vary the up/down air flow by about 6 inches.

I made a big deal about this because I''m using it as a bedroom AC and it affects me when I''m sleeping. Truth be told, in most circumstances, the air-direction controls of an AC are not that big of a deal. If it''s not used in a bedroom, or if it''s installed high in a wall or even in a window that''s not next to a bed, this should not create a problem for you.

However, as fate would have it, the unit is installed in a window located to the side of my bed. That''s where the Carrier AC was installed and when I adjusted its vents, the air would blow upward and to the sides, so it NEVER blew directly on me while I was sleeping. With the Frigidaire unit, no matter what I try, the AC always blows directly on me while I am sleeping and I don''t like that. So the bottom line is that this may not apply to you, but it''s something you should be aware of. It''s really quite annoying that I can''t adjust this unit so it doesn''t blow on me while I''m sleeping.

Conclusion:

This is a great unit and I highly recommend it, but with one reservation. You virtually cannot control the direction of air flow and it always blows straight ahead. Depending on your circumstances, this might not matter. However, if the unit will be installed in a window next to your bed or next to where you will be sitting, be aware that it will blow directly on you.

The best thing about this little AC unit is the "remote sensing" feature. It has a thermometer on the remote control and can use that as the input for the thermostat, set the remote in the middle of the room and it will keep it at an even temperature. It also has an "econo mode" setting and a "clean air" ionic air filter. It is small, relatively quiet, and the 8000 BTU''s do a fantastic job keeping the place cool (it hardly ever runs in econo mode but still keeps it cold). This unit was only $10 more than the equivalent 6000 BTU Frigidaire unit.

I don''t have a lot of experience with window a/c units, but this little guy seems to do alright. I moved to Brooklyn recently in the midst of mid-90s heat, into an apt with 0 a/c. Units were sold out all over town (except in overpriced specialty stores) so I had this unit rush delivered. The quality seems pretty good, given the relative low cost. I have this installed in my bedroom and it keeps the entire room chilly (68 F) on the lowest fan setting. Another plus is that I''ve not been bothered by any water dripping inside or out of the unit, which has been a problem of mine in other units.

The one negative I have is the loudness of the lowest setting. I wish there was another setting lower that was a bit quieter.

4 stars instead of 5 due to noise not terrible, but not the best available. Just purchased this unit from Lowes (slightly newer model remote control has been changed to the thin "credit card" sized remote control). About the same noise level as my 2-year old Kenmore 8000 Btu; not as quiet as my 20-year old Kenmore 8000 Btu (I have all 3 units installed and running in various rooms, so can compare). This unit is slightly cooler than the 2-year old unit, about the same as the 20-year old unit. Adjusting the directional vents on this unit is better than the older Kenmore, but still not great (no A/C I''ve seen has had good directional control). One annoying item for a bedroom installation: there is a really loud "beep" whenever you adjust anything. Would be really annoying to a partner if you adjusted the unit in the middle of the night.

Ok, I did my research before I bought this unit. It seems like the most bang for your buck. Amazon.com was VERY fast shipping this to me! I was shocked how fast.

The manufacturer claims that it uses only $59 of electricity a YEAR on average. We''ll see. I haven''t gotten the bill yet.

The unit has an ionizer and here''s what I found about them:

"An air ionizer is a device that is intended to purify the air. As its name implies, instead of using fans and filters, an air ionizer creates ions which remove microscopic particles from the air. Rooms are healthier for those suffering from asthma, allergies, impaired immunity, or respiratory ailments, without as many allergens circulating in the lungs. Dust and mold collects inside heating and air conditioning ducts. Higher humidity inside allows bacteria to thrive. An air ionizer addresses these home and office sources of pollution and odor. The ozone that is created when negative ions are generated battles pollution by breaking it down into smaller, harmless components. Published research shows that high levels of negative ions are a useful treatment for Seasonal Affective Disorder."

Then again, a new study conducted by Consumer Reports indicates that ionizers also create ozone that isn''t good for you. So who knows? I''ve been using it.

Pros

* Cools great! Cooled my whole apartment!

* Remote control

* Can use the remote for sensing the temperature instead (nice)

* Easy to install (took me an hour)

* Has an ionizer on it

* Lots of features

* I personally love the sound of the fan. It sounds a lot like a really nice box fan. I sleep like a baby and it downs out the noise from outside since I''m off a busy street. (people pay a lot of money for white noise machines!)

Cons (not enough to deduct a star though)

* No option to use vent to bring in outside air (on the bright side, bugs can''t get in through the unit)

* On energy saver mode, it only checks the temperature every 10 minutes (it got up to 80 degrees in here in-between 10 minute checks)

* You''ll need weather sealing tape for the side panels (so little bugs don''t come in the sides and cold air gets out)

* Smelled a little metallic at first (I think it''s the lubrication inside the unit)

Please note: You will probably want to weatherize the room (or your place) the unit is in. This is very easy to do (I put "high density foam tape" around the doors and "clear weather sealing tape" where air could come in around the unit) and makes a huge difference. If hot air is coming in and cold air is getting out, then no normal air conditioner is going to seem good enough. Plus, you lose a lot of money on wasted electricity. That''s pretty common sense. If I can do it, anyone can.

CHECK WITH YOUR ELECTRIC COMPANY! I was eligible for a $30 dollar rebate on my electric bill for buying this "green" unit. Every little bit helps!

I found all the specifications before I bought the unit and thought I would share:

BISSELL Steam Mop Replacement Filter Save 14% Off

BISSELL Steam Mop Replacement Filter, 32526I rarely used my steam mop. Recently I decided to use it but the filter dripped all over the place... I hadn''t realized I had to replace the filter. Thank goodness for amazon because I couldn''t find the filter at any local retailer including target (where I bought the steam mop.) the filter arrived as promised and at a decent price.

Please note the fishy smell is due to an old filter! Read the instructions and it will tell you that. Filter works just as expected.

I ordered this to replace my original filter which developed a crack after one too many drops. This replacement fits and does the job, or at least as far as I can tell and I suppose that''s all I can ask. It''s definitely a generic though, not OEM Bissell.

Wagner 915 1,500-Watt On-Demand Power Steamer and Cleaner Save 47% Off

Wagner 915 1,500-Watt On-Demand Power Steamer and Cleaner
  • No messy chemicals or chemical residue for steam cleaning or wallpaper removal
  • On-demand fingertip steam control for continuous or intermittent steam
  • Wallpaper steam plate removes wallpaper 20 percent faster than non-pressurized steamers
  • Steam-cleaning action kills bacteria to sanitize surfaces inside and outside the house
  • Eight-foot steam hose allows for a large working area; includes two extension tubes for great reach

First off, make sure you read all the directions before use! After getting through the short manual, I set up shop in the bathroom and intended to clean every surface. It took about 15-20 minutes with a full tank (48 oz) to be ready for use. I kept the bathroom door closed and locked because I was concerned about my children and puppies being curious and getting hurt. I understand why it takes so long to get going, but I was worried that one of my little ones would get into it. There really should be a lock on the trigger seeing as it has to be left for so long to warm up and all it takes is a second to get some major burns. That said, locking it in the bathroom did the trick for me.

Once it was ready, I started with the brass nozzle and cleaned my bathtub and shower. It worked very well with a bit of elbow grease to remove all the build up in the grout and around the shower head which are always a pain to keep clean. It was very easy to clean the areas around my faucet that are too narrow to clean with anything other than a toothbrush. I also did some polishing up of the toilet and the toddler seats and felt really great about the idea of disinfecting everything without chemicals. I had wanted a versatile cleaner like this for some time as my mother has a nice one that I''ve always been jealous of, but it costs her $40 every time she needs to refill the chemicals and they go pretty fast with regular use. As a result, she doesn''t use it as much as she would like to. Not so with this steamer! I absolutely love that it''s just tap water. So easy and simple. The manual does warn that over time you can get mineral build up from using non-distilled water but gives you clear directions on how to clean that up so I''m sure it won''t be an issue when/if it happens.

Before finishing up with the nozzle, I found my own personal perfect use for the steamer. Cleaning my window screens! Several times a year, I have to take apart all our windows and haul the screens into the backyard to spray down with the hose. Not only is this time consuming, but it isn''t all that effective. I still have to use up a ton of towels wiping them down to get them really clean. I decided to give the steamer a try on my bathroom screens and oh my gosh! Instantly clean. No scrubbing, no wiping, just clean. Even if I could use it for nothing else, I would use it for this. It will save me SO much time and headache in the long run.

Once I was done with the screen, I wanted to try the squeegee attachment on the windows and mirror. I am impatient and was annoyed that I had to wait 20 minutes for the attachment to cool before I could swap it out, so I used my oven mitt and easily took off the nozzle and replaced it with the squeegee. I''m very picky about streaky glass, and was VERY pleased that within seconds I had my mirror clean from top to bottom, even at the very top where I can''t normally reach without a step ladder or climbing onto the vanity. It did leave little pools of water at the bottom but a quick wipe and it was cleaned up. And NO STREAKS!!

Finally, I put on the floor attachment and went to work on my tile. It was very quick and very simple. I left it to air dry as normal and the floor was clean in half the time with no chemicals. I love this steamer so much! It''s making my family healthier thanks to being able to throw out the chemicals and it''s saving me time and money. Does it get any better?!

My only gripes are the fact that there is no safety lock on the trigger for use when it''s warming up and that there''s no on board storage for all the accessories. I get that they wanted to keep the unit small and portable, but I have all this bulky accessories with nowhere to store them. Also, the cord is pretty short. I can imagine this is for safety reasons, but it''s kind of a nuisance to keep moving it from plug to plug, even within a single room. Overall though, well worth the money!

Please note that I have posted before and after images for 2 different stains on cement floors.

The first thing I did when this item arrived is pour myself a tall cup of coffee and read the instruction booklet. Radically banal, I know, but I did this for 2 reasons:

1) Things that steam and operate under pressure wig me out a bit

2) Is it advised for use on my specific application? (Cement floor? Answer: yes)

My Main Intended Application (possible gross-out alert):

This steamer is marketed primarily for wall-paper removal. While my house does not have any wall-paper, it does have certain tell-tale signs that 4 cats live here. They have produced prodigious and near-permanent 3-D stains using every orifice available to them. Scrub-brushes, a garden hoe, bleach, TSP, Brillo pads ... NOTHING removes the stains that went undetected for more than a couple of days, especially on our basement''s cement floor.

WHAT I LIKE:

1) Ease of set-up and ease of use not messy, though it did scare the cats, and required lots of paper towels

2) Attachments (1 jet nozzle, 2 nozzle brushes, 2 extension wands, 1 steam plate, 1 large cleaning brush, 1 squeegee)

3) Light-weight, easy to carry up and down stairs

4) 16 ounces of water heated in just a few minutes (max of 48 ounces will require longer time)

5) Results on cement floor outstanding!! (see my Customer Images) Just a few swipes with the cleaning brush attachment did the job (plus a whole lot of paper towels).

WHAT I DO NOT LIKE POTENTIAL HAZARD:

This steamer has no water-level indicator and you should use your own timer to prevent fire and/or electric shock from allowing the steamer to boil dry. The machine DOES have a thermal safety fuse reset capability for when the steamer is allowed to run WHILE dry (i.e. if you turn the machine on without filling the reservoir first), yet it does not seem to kick in if the steamer had been previously filled but allowed to boil dry. Thus, for safety, you have to be VERY mindful about your usage time based on how much water you have inserted (see "Good To Know" below). The manufacturers seriously need to add at least an automated timer to this machine and ideally an auto-shut-off feature.

WHAT I DID NOT EXPECT:

During my first 10 minutes of use, I had to stop and wait 4 times for the water to reheat. This is a bit of a pain for longer periods of cleaning, but I can get used to this. (I just have to remember to look at the indicator lights very frequently; when the light is red, the machine is working on creating steam, therefore you must wait for the light to turn green again, indicating steam is available for use.)

GOOD TO KNOW:

1) 16 ounces of water provides 15 minutes of steam time

2) 32 ounces of water provides 30 minutes of steam time

3) 48 ounces of water (max capacity) provides 45 minutes of steam time

4) Distilled water is recommended over regular tap water.

5) You''ll most likely need an extension cord, and only a heavy duty 3-wire 3-prong (grounded) cord.

6) You''ll need to use your own timer to avoid a hazardous boiled-dry situation.

BOTTOM LINE:

For cleaning nasty old 3-D pet-stained cement floors, I am positively pleased with this steamer. What this steamer was able to accomplish in just 10 minutes outweighs the concerns I mentioned above. I am looking forward to experimenting with all the attachments and getting to know this machine much better.

I was very excited when this came in the mail today. My luck with a steam cleaner has not been very good lately. This can be attested to a steam cleaner (McCulloch 1246) I bought a few months back and after trying it on, provided extremely disappointing results, it was returned within the day I received it. Only a comprehensive evaluation of the Wagner 915 On-Demand Power Steamer would tell if my excitement will turn into exhiliration or disappointment, and I am proud to conclude, it has exceeded my expectations of what a steam cleaner should be in every way.

The Wagner 915 comes in a bright yellow-colored body and it is ready to roll right out of the box: fill it up with water, attach the jet nozzle, plug it in the outlet, wait a few minutes for steam and pressure to build up and voila! steam power at your command, ready to tackle the most demanding cleaning job in your household.

It comes with following attachments: the main jet nozzel, plastic and metal brush, attachment to remove wallpapers and the mopping attachment. My first order of battle for this steam cleaner is the bathroom. Once the red light indicator turns off, just leaving the green light, it means you''re ready to wage your war on germs. I tried it first on the shower curtains and the superheated and high pressure steam blasted away soap scums like it wasn''t there. The superheated steam softens the scum and the pressure blasts it away at the same time. The grout also proved no match for this steamer. Along with the plastic brush attachment, a gentle scrubbing motion was all it took to make the stain disappear on the grout edges. Since the steam was very hot, you can also sanitize the toilet without worrying about the smell of chemical cleaners or getting it on your skin. My second task was the stove top, oven and the microwave. Again, the superheated steam and both the plastic and metal brush, softened the baked in grime and stain and blasted it away with high pressure. All that needs to be done in the end is a simple wipe. You can also prefer to skip the wiping and just air dry it. I haven''t tried the wallpaper remover attachment since there are no wall papers anywhere in my home.

Be advised though that, you need to have a little patience when using a steam cleaner. As you prolong the steaming, you release pressure from the steaming unit and it needs to build up again. This is the purpose of the red light indicator. If the red light is on, it means it is building up steam and pressure. It has exceeded my expectations in the sense that with the Wagner 915, this steamer MAINTAINED the superheated status of the steam for a much longer time compared to the previous steam cleaner I had, the McCulloch 1246. Maintaining the heat of the steam for a prolonged period of time is very important feature in my opinion as it gets your task done faster without the frequent waiting in between for the steam cleaner to heat up and build pressure again. The McCulloch 1246 failed miserably with this feature. (You can read all about this in my separate review for the McCulloch). Another nice thing with the wagner is that it has its own compartment where you can store the tiny plastic and metal brush. It can be stored there after using the steamer, eliminating the need to look for it elsewhere or misplacing it. Be careful though because it is also where the water tank opening is located and just after using the steamer, the tank cap can be very hot so avoid getting in contact with it right after use.

Other reviewers noted the short power cord. This is a minor gripe in my opinion as I can always use an extension cord. Overall, very impressed with the performance of this product and I just hope it continues to function well and not break down in the near future. Highly recommended!

Want Wagner 915 1,500-Watt On-Demand Power Steamer and Cleaner Discount?

I purchased the wagner steam cleaner because the 1st one I purchased (McCulloch MC-1275 Heavy-Duty Steam Cleaner) broke after the 2nd time I used it. I liked the wagner because

1. The wagner steam cleaner is lighter and more sturdily built compared to the McCulloch.

2. The wagner emits a more powerful jet of steam compared to the McCulloch which is useful in cleaning the bathroom and fixtures.

3. The squegee on the Wagner left no streaks vs some streaks left by the McCulloch

4. The wagner came with a cloth/mop that was really useful in mopping the floors. You could use any small towel as well as there is space to pin a cloth onto the tool.

5. The wagner works with tap water whereas the McCulloch requires distilled water.

The only disadvantage to the wagner is that the electric cord is really too short. I have purchased the "Stanley 31536 Heavy Duty 9-Foot 110V Extension Cord, Grey" from amazon to compensate for the short cord on the wagner.

Save 47% Off

I have both this new 915 model and the previous 905 model, which are essentially the same in functionality. The new one has a much more rugged design with a better handle, slightly lighter trigger, new holster, and a thicker plastic shell. A redesigned light makes it easier to tell when the steam is ready. The old model had plastic that cracked easily. The changes that are less of an improvement are: shorter power cord, shorter steamer hose, two fewer little scrubber brushes, and no measuring cup. Having a few extra brushes is nice since that''s what most people will run through when cleaning and a longer hose makes it easier to work with. A shorter hose may improve steamer performance with hotter steam coming out but I haven''t measured this.

Overall this is better because the old machine just wasn''t that well designed in a few areas and they''ve fixed those problems. For $90 this thing is a bargain and worth the minor inconveniences associated with it''s consumer level design.
