Clear Flow KFF-301 Long Life Disposable Kitchen Faucet Filter

Clear Flow KFF-301 Long Life Disposable Kitchen Faucet Filter, White
  • No cartridges to change! Lasts for up to 1 year (300 gallons).
  • Electronic status light tells you your filter is working
  • Switch from filtered to unfiltered water
  • Save up to $600 compared to buying bottled water

We have pretty bad tasting water in Las Vegas, and we''re pretty much forced to buy 5-gallon containers of purified water for straight drinking water. We were going through so much, that I looked into getting a charcoal-based filter system for water for our tea, coffee, pets, and plants (all of which benefit from having minerals in them). I was pretty horrified to find how much the other famous brands charge for their filters and containers and such! Then I found these. They use the same technology as the others, but are so much cheaper! So I bought one.

Well, it''s eight months later and the green light is still on (meaning it''s not time to change) and we run a lot of water through it. It''s a solidly built device, with a strong connector (and multiple steel fittings come with it), and I really couldn''t be happier with it. I wouldn''t recommend it for sinks whose faucets are already low down into the sink, or it might get in the way of cleaning pots, but that''s true for the competitors, too.

One thing that I prefer about it over the competitors is that the whole unit is disposable, not just the filter. While as a rule I''m an obsessive recycler and environmentally minded person, in our house we do not have a water softener and all the water fixtures and appliances gum up and corrode quickly. After 8 months, this thing is no exception, though I am happy that some extra tightening stopped any leaks and it still works great, but I''m happy I''ll be starting fresh with another unit in a few months, instead of having to live with a crudded up unit with a new filter, as I would with competitors.

Do not buy this item. Mine went right away. It only showed a green light for a short period, the rest of the time a red light to no light at all. I had much difficulty locating the manufacturer, so I finally called up Clear Flow and the item and found a site I could write to. Here was their response.--

I am sorry to inform you but we are a retail and service company in Canada and we do not manufacture any drinking water systems. This is not the first request for information that we have received, As to this date we have not been able to locate this manufacturer.

Clearflow Pumps and Water Treatment Limited

Your Water the Way You Want It ... Safe, Clean and Crystal Clear. This was my letter to them -

I purchased your Clear Flow KFF-301 Long Life Disposable Kitchen Faucet Filter, White in February of this year from Amazon.

It didn''t work right when we put it on. I ran water as the instructions stated but no green light showed up. The red one did. After a few days I did get a green light. Shortly after that it went to red. Not much longer after we finally had a green light stay on, then the red light came on and stayed on, and now there is no light at all. For the capacity it is supposed to have for filtration, I sure did not get that.

I have been searching for how to get in touch with you, until I now went to Amazon and called up Clear Flow on a search.

I have had many water filters, but this is the first one to do that. It has been installed correctly by my boyfriend who installed all of the others.

I sure did not get my money out of this product, yet it gets great reviews.

Can I get another one, or do I have to buy another one, but it will be a different brand?

Very concerned and not happy.

I bought my first clear flow filter six years ago at a local hardware store, where I could put the specs side by side with Brita, Culligan, Pur and found the contaminant reduction on Clear Flow to be the best in terms of removing contaminants that concerned me. The water tastes great, too.

This is my fifth Clear Flow filter in six years, so I get a bit over a year per filter. That''s pretty minimal plastic to landfill compared to Brita and other filters that take "refills". The whole Clear Flow Filter isn''t much bigger than a Brita Filter cartridge, which is also a plus in terms of not taking up room at your kitchen tap.

Since I have been a loyal user of this filter design for a number of years, I know there was a period a few years back when they made an arrangement with Brita and sold this filter, by retail anway, exclusively through Brita instead of under their own name. All you fans of the Brita disposable water filter-the Clear Flow KFF-301 *IS* the "Brita" disposable. Brita sold it for a much higher price, though. Close to double, if memory serves. I wonder a bit if Brita might have been pulling a Microsoft-esque tactic, trying to buy influence over innovative competitors and then just marketing the competing product to fail. I for one am glad Clear Flow didn''t sell out to Brita, reclaimed its own product, and continues to make a great little alternative filter that is priced really well.

I can''t find these filters at my local hardware store anymore, but I''m glad to find them here on Amazon.

Lasts for over a year and then just throw it away. Too bad these things are so hard to find. Needs better marketing.

I buy this clear flow filter every year, although this time I bought two, infear of them being discontinued. I dont know what i would do if this happens. I have tried other brands and they pop off the faucet, so i have continued to buy this one for years now.

I recommend this to anyone.

Jura-Capresso 13185 Impressa F7 Espresso Machine

Jura-Capresso 13185 Impressa F7 Espresso Machine, Silver MetallicAfter 7 years or so of using a bulletproof Starbucks Barista which produced great espresso and copious microfoam, I bought this machine for my wife for Christmas (although she swears it was yet another gift to myself). The build quality and ease of use is great. The espresso is very good (but not up to the standards of a well pulled shot off a semi-auto). Nevertheless, the lack of any mess and pushbutton convenience outweighs any complaints about the quality of the shot don''t get me wrong, it pulls a very nice shot. What it doesnt do well is create the beautiful microfoam an experienced user can get using a traditional steam wand. All of these super-autos have that annoying steam-assist wand which is supposed to require no skill to create foam. Unfortunately all it does it create these large crappy bubbles and very little foam. To make matters worse, the side steam holes get clogged very easily and then the result is NO FOAM. I called wholelattelove and Capresso looking for a solution and they each had no clue either (a) how to solve the problem, or (b) why in the world I didnt like the crappy large soap bubble excuse for microfoam. Well for $8 I found a Krups metal steam tip off the net (go to culinaryparts.com for a $1.99 steam tip plus $6 shipping) and screwed it on to the end of the metal wand after having discarded the useless steaming aid sleeve and old plastic tip, and VOILA! -awesome foam made in half the time I could do the same thing with my old Starbucks Barista. These machines all have a Thermoblock for steaming unlike the traditional boiler on a better semi-auto. Nevertheless it is enough and the foam is first rate as I said. The only other thing to be aware of is that these machines cant use my beloved Peats coffee beans too oily and they get stuck in the hopperso I am still searching for a good dark roast which is not too oily. But for now after a month of use, I am happy with the espresso and the foam and delighted to make my morning cap with a minimum of effort. The F7 in particular is a great machine as against the other Juras. It is more programmible than the E* and much simpler to use (and smaller footprint) than the pricier units. I almost bought the F9 but there is just too much to think about on that machine and the bright chrome is a bit too shiny and pretentious. The F7 is the perfect mix of functionality and understated good looks. It is also the newest technology from Jura so it has some small touches that the F9 doesnt have, such as a 120 second steam timer versus the 60 second timer on the F9.

Update to the above review:

After many more months of use I am loving the Jura F7, and I found the beans to use: Blue Bottle Coffee Hayes Valley Espresso. Not too oily but very flavorful. Perfect for this machine. Better than Peats, and definitely fresher. I am not going to list their website here cause I dont want to look like a shill for them. But you can find them, I am confident. They will mail out to you for no additional cost.

By the way, the review above that says the F7 is a shinier version of the E8 is incorrect. The basic mechanism may be the same, but the programming functions and other nice features are significantly different. If you''re already spending this much coin, the F7 is a better deal than the E8. Just my humble opinion.

I got the Impressa F7 for mother''s day and it has changed my life around! The coffee is predictably par excellence and both my husband and I have no desire to go out for coffee anymore. In fact when we are out, we would rather come home than go to Starbucks.

The machine seemed formidable at first (I find any thing with manuals to be intimidating), but after reading the manual and trying out the F7 a few times I got it right. I have since perfected the art of frothing and steaming. It comes with a video, though I did not watch it.

CONS: has a fairly large foot print....needs a lot of counter space.

Flavored coffee beans cannot be used in the grinder....something to do with the oils. Because of this I have switched from hazelnut coffee to unflavored coffee, and frankly, the coffee is so good that I don''t miss the flavored kind.

The accessories such as the water filter and the cleaning tablets are not easily available.....I have to order them directly from Capresso, or from Williams and Sonoma.

Finally, although this is a somewhat expensive machine ($1400), we have recovered half the cost of the machine over the past 3 months by not going to specialty coffee stores and spending $3 for each cup.

Hope you find this review helpful.

My wife LOVES coffee...I like coffee...she works ..I work...we have three kids...I would try to stay in bed longer than her to keep from having to make the coffee in the morning.. For Christmas I bought an Impressa F7 ..I was only prepared to spend about $1000 on a coffee machine at Williams-Sonoma...but the machine I could get for that really lacked some basic features...there were more expensive machines...but the F7 seemed to have most of what I wanted ...I got up Christmas morning to set up the machine, which was relatively easy...(although after 7 or 8 cups of "tweeking" the machine, my heart was pounding up in my throat and when the kids came down to see what Santa had left them I sent them back upstairs for making too much noise)...The coffee was REALLY good...it took a while to learn how to adjust the machine to get what we each liked, but now we love the machine...although there are occassional issues such as a luke warm cup now and then and the frother is marginal...it has made our life in the morning a very pleasant experience...it really doesn''t require much upkeep ....wouldn''t give it up now...

Great tasting coffee & espresso, but for nearly $1k I shouldn''t have to burn myself and spend nearly 15-20 minutes cleaning up a mess caused by an unacceptable & fundamental flaw in engineering.

Since the second day we owned this product the steam wand has flown off at random temperatures; as low as 100 deg. F and as high as 160 deg. F. I''ve tried adjusting how low and high I have the steam wand inserted in the milk. I''ve even de-calcified the machine and tried again. Nothing helps the situation.

I called the company technical support and they suggested a new steam valve. We waited over a week for it to show up only to find out they sent us the wrong one! We told them our model number; they even referenced the manual with us on the phone.

I called technical support a second time and the guy affirmed they''ve had a few people call with this same issue. The worst I''ve seen was a written review on Costco.com for this product where the guy owned it for 5 months before this started happening to him. Can you imagine being stuck with this problem after 5 months of owning it?

Pay specific attention to 4:20 into the video. Avoid this company at all costs! Virtually all of their machines employ the same type of steam wand.

Many people have reported having to send their units in MULTIPLE times for VERY EXPENSIVE repairs many times costing $180 or more. I spend that much on maintenance for my vehicle! But after spending nearly $1,000 on this machine there''s no way in heck I should have to spend another cent! This thing should JUST WORK and for MANY MANY MANY years without flaws... certainly NOT one that can potentially scald the heck out of me with HOT MILK.

Watch the video to see just how awful it is (specifically 4:20 into the video).

I am not a coffee shop expert so my expectations may be different than yours. My needs were the following when considering buying this machine:

1. Consistant coffee shop taste and quality.

2. Easy to use

3. Easy clean up

4. An intelligent machine

5. Well built

This machine is really cool. It makes the whole coffee making process so simple. The results are fabulous. Everything comes out nice and hot. The machine is very intelligent with a lot of cool little features in place to make your life easier. The frother works great. Setup was a breeze. I got it on amazon.com for $853.00 brand new from a marketplace seller. A great deal it was!

Brita Atlantis Water Pitcher

Brita Atlantis Water Filter Pitcher, WhiteOverall, we''re very happy with the Brita Atlantis Pitcher. Also bought one for Mom. The only minor problem is is sometimes spills a little if you don''t pour carefully. The water tastes great, and we use it all the time at home, now only using bottled water for on-the-go. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY UPGRADING TO THE BRITA DELUXE OR BRITA CHROME: The Brita Deluxe has an indicator light to signal you to change filters however it goes off after a set amount of time rather than the actual usage of the filter. I got one as a gift and prefer the standard model. The light just gets annoying, especially when you know you don''t need to change the filter yet. The chrome model also has the annoying light and is more difficult to clean (my sister has it). If you have more than one person in the house, or if you drink a lot of water, I would suggest buying the larger size. Or you can do what we do. We bought another large refillable bottle that we keep filled with the filtered water while the Brita is doing its job.

You can often get great deals on the replacement filters if you keep your eyes open for sales, and it''s definitely worth it to buy the 3 pack of filters.

Definitely rinse the filter twice before you use it.

(TOP 10 REVIEWER)(COMMUNITY FORUM 04)(#1 Hall OF FAME REVIEWER)The top of this pitcher is a bit fragile; if you drop it on a tile floor, it can break, or at least the small spout cover can break, so beware.

The water does filter "slowly" but acceptable. I say "slowly" because the job of filtering water by gravity naturally takes some time. The water has to percolate down through the filter surface area; this just is a slow process without any help from positive or negative (vacuum) pressure.

The pitcher holds 2 quarts. Frankly, if your water is bad-tasting, you will be filling this pitcher up many times a day. If that is the case, get an inline filter instead. This pitcher is ok for a small family, but for a large, water-drinking, Kool-aid making, tea drinking family you may need a lot more. We have one, and we use it a lot, so I have to say it''s pretty good, overall.

This filtration pitcher is the only one I have ever had, tried, or used. If you buy this you need to get the filters with the color indicator that tells you when to change it. I made the mistake of buying filters without it and after the filter has died, you can usually tell by the taste (which is really bad). this is a good price. it is very easy to fill. it takes a little while to filter the water, maybe a little longer than I would like. At my house, 8 cups of water is gone in no time though. If you have a family, it is probably smarter to buy a little bigger one. but the good thing is that it doesn''t take up much room in the fridge and it is easy to pour.

This is a good alternative but has its drawbacks. I think a britta sink/faucet model would be more convenient but my faucet is not set up for one. The water from this pitcher tastes very good and I use it for my coffee which allows me to not buy filters for the pot...however.... a full pitcher is just under a full pot of coffee and the refilling of the britta is very slow. (The re-fill rate seems to decrease as the filter gets older) Something to consider if you will be bringing the pitcher to the dinner table for a family... You really cant pour it till its done filtering. The filters are fairly expensive but less than buying bottled water. I also find the pitcher to be a bit heavy and the lid delicate. altho it has not broken i can see that that might be a problem... This is a good alternative to a faucet model or bottled water but it isnt without its drawbacks.

Want Brita Atlantis Water Pitcher Discount?

Our family lived for many years in a Central American country where the water was iffy. We became Brita users then in the remote hope that it would keep some of the bad stuff our of our stomachs.

Now, living in Indianapolis where the water is pure but hard, we drink from water poured through the Brita Water Filtration Pitcher in order to filter out some of the minerals that make water ''hard''.

Although I am not persuaded that we have taken great scientific leaps forward towards water purity, my wife assures me that this is progress. Therefore, I try to drink water only out of the Brita.

I can say that it''s not an inconvenient little contraption. It''s easy both to fill the Pitcher and to pour from it, though you''ll likely suffer a few wet countertops before you learn to wait for the water in the newly-filled pitcher to settle.

I am told by my devoted spouse that we are loyal Brita customers for the long haul. She knows about these things.

Do drink up.

Jupiter Melody Alkaline Water Ionizer & Water Filter System

Jupiter Melody Alkaline Water Ionizer & Water Filter System with .1 Biostone FilterI had a reverse osmosis water filter for many years when I was very ill and needed to get control over what went in my body. The problem with it was that you needed to then alkalize the water and re-structure it because RO water is energetically dead and acidic. But I had bought the RO because it totally removes everything including flouride. So then I had to alkalize it, and restructure it and those were just more steps before you actually drink it.

After 5 years of that I decided to switch to Ionized water. The Kangan water filters produce great tasting water. I sampled some and fell it love with it. But Kangen is a HUGE MLM scheme and cost $4,000. That is not necessary, in my opinion. After much research and online shopping I settled on this Melody Jupiter filter and I bought it here on Amazon 1.5 years ago. The water is delicious. My friends comment on how good it tastes. It removes a significant amount of flouride but not all. What I read about this filter and other ionizers made me feel like I was getting the best I could get without being involved with Kangan. Some cheaper brand ionizers are not made as well.

PROS: Easy to install, easy to use, water tastes great, price is reasonable compared to others, removes a lot of toxins.

CONS: Requires electricity to run (you need an outlet near your sink), the processes creates waste water that will go down your drain. Filters don''t last long enough if you use a lot of water.

When I purchased this unit it was not clear to me that there is a waste water tube that runs into your sink and that 50% of the water running through the machines goes down the drain. We don''t pay for our water individually in my apartment building, but I do consider this extremely wasteful, especially if you use a lot of water and have to pay for it. The waste water is acidic so I devised a system to re-cycle it by purchasing a large square water bottle with a tap. I collect the waste water and use it for rinsing veggies and other such things. But it requires and time and effort to do this and most people would not bother.

The water filters don''t last as long as I would like. We use about 2 gallons per day. I drink 3-4 liters of water per day, plus other family members use it too. The more alkaline you like your water, the quicker your filter will run out. This is a drag in my opinion. I have not calculated the cost per gallon, but I don''t think this filter equals cheap water, but it is definitely better than purchasing bottled water, which I refuse to support unless I''m in dire circumstances.

I hope this helps readers make an informed decision.

I have used my Jupiter Melody Ionizer through the full session of one filter, and thus far I am very pleased. I tested the acid and alkaline waters with PH strips. They are both extreme on their PH scales. The alkaline water tastes amazing alone, like water straight from a pristine aquifer. I am serious here people. I have now become a water snob. Sure, it is good to add minerals to the water to get the minerals we need. And those can taste kinda funky. But not necessarily. As well, the taste of tea changes when using this water, in comparison to using Brita filtered water even. I notice an impeccable difference. My loose leaf teas now taste like a sip of heaven. Needless to say, I highly recommend this product.

Buy Jupiter Melody Alkaline Water Ionizer & Water Filter System Now

From my wife Sarah: Bottom line I really like this Ionizer.

I purchased my first Jupiter Melody many years ago, and recently upgraded to a new one rather than pay for repairs of my old unit. The company let me pay $575 to buy a brand new unit with a lifetime warranty. I appreciate that kind of customer support.

Prior to buying my first Jupiter, I had been using a 4 step reverse osmosis water filter. While that makes very clean water, it also makes the water very acidic. I realized I was drinking a large amount of acid water every day, which isn''t very healthy. I had been reading about the benefits of sticking to a more alkaline diet, so I decided to find a new water filter.

I chose the Jupiter Melody after comparison shopping and researching the differences in the machines. Shortly after getting this unit, I found that my chronic heartburn dramatically reduced, and my bladder became less irritated. I guess it''s not surprising when you think I had been drinking acid before.

I like several things about the Jupiter Melody:

1. It gives you control over the PH of your water.

2. You can easily change the setting to alter the PH.

3. You can make acid, neutral PH or alkaline water. There are 4 levels of acid PH levels, and 4 levels of alkaline PH levels. Then you can alter the PH further by changing the flow rate of the water. You can choose the setting that feels best to you, and you can change it for different purposes. For example I turn it to the highest alkaline setting when I drink coffee in order to counteract the acidity of the coffee.

4. You can place the unit on top of your sink or under your sink. I prefer it on top because I frequently change the PH.

5. It''s relatively easy to install. My husband installed it with no difficulty.

6. It self-cleans, so there''s no maintenance other than changing the filter periodically.

7. The water tastes good.

One reviewer mentioned the waste of the acid water byproduct that''s expelled after the water is filtered. Personally I''m not concerned about that. The majority of the water ends up in my glass, and some water drains out the tubing into the sink. I''d rather have that acidic and impure water go down the drain than in my glass.

I also saw someone mention that the filter needs frequent replacement. I drink a LOT of water and I''ve found the filter needs changing at what I''d consider to be a reasonable rate based on over 20 years of owning water filters.

This type of filter won''t purify the water to the degree that a reverse osmosis or distillation purifier will. But I feel you''re making a trade-off, and I decided it was worth it. I believe that the ionized and alkalized water has worthwhile health benefits. If you want more purification than the Jupiter Melody gives you, you can purchase a pre-filter for it. The type you get will depend on what''s in your local water. You can find someone on the web who sells this and discuss pre-filters with them. They may be able to advise you based on where you live.

For anyone with an old Jupiter Melody, I have to say that the new one is MUCH better. It functions more efficiently in many ways, and I don''t seem to need the pre-filter I needed with my old one.

The music the machine makes can be turned off, and I keep it off. I don''t see the point and it''s a bit annoying.

COMPARING TO THE KANGEN: I did compare this to the Kangen multi-level marketing brand. I had to really work my way through levels of people at Kangen to find out what kind of filtering system they had, in addition to the ionization process. I believe it was plain carbon according to the person I finally spoke with. There was just no information published on what''s inside. I didn''t like that.

The newest Jupiter Melody filter has nine stages designed to do a number of things including purifying, adding minerals which alkalizes the water, and reducing water cluster size. You can find the details by searching "Jupiter Melody filter", or visit this Amazon page: IonWays .1 Micron Biostone Plus Water Ionizer Replacement Filter.

The Kangen was RADICALLY more expensive and I don''t believe you get anything more or unique for your money. The Kangen sales reps will bring you water at no cost for you to try. Be aware that they''re bringing you water from the most expensive units they sell. Make sure you''re trying the water from the price level you''re planning to buy. If you''re buying a less expensive unit, the water will be different.

So to conclude, I do recommend the Jupiter Melody for anyone looking for water purification with added health benefits.

I bought this supposedly at a deep discounted "wholesale price" from a friend -trusted him on this.

I like the machine very much -found the price on Amazon was the same as I paid, thinking I was getting the big discount. It works very well. Was easy to install and very easy to operate. It talks to you and turns at the same setting as you last used -easy to change to acid or alkaline water. I had purchased one, much more expensive, years ago, but they seem to be much improved from them. I hate MLM and suspect that this model is sold that way, but also with enough "dealers" buying at some MLM level and then simply selling them at some approximation of "cost." Dr. Yound sells them, about the same price. I like his data about alkaline water and think this is the best machine unless you spend much more -I was willing to spend some more, but was happy with this price and the machine. I would buy from Amazon if I hadn''t thought I was getting such a deep discount and hadn''t looked here first -but I wanted to help the friend anyway.

It is still a mystery as to where it is made -I presume Korea, but there are dozens of Google search finds on various parts of the name -all different types of people apparently selling the same item. Buy from someone you know and trust -I trust Amazon for such things.

Yes, a great machine. I drink ONLY alkaline water. The highest pH setting water tastes very different, the first setting of Alkaline is only slighly different tasting than normal water.

Whether it improves my health? I don''t know, but it is worth getting just in case it is also helpful -the theories behind it are convincing to me.

Want Jupiter Melody Alkaline Water Ionizer & Water Filter System Discount?

I bought this alkaline water ionizer system for half year ago before I shopped around for this kind of water system for another half year. I totally satisfied this system; it not only provided alkaline water that can offset our acid body but also produced the negative ion that can eliminate the free radicals inside our bodies. I even could not believe the very famous water treatment system I used for over 15 years could only work as a filter but kept on producing positive ion that was damaging our family members. Within this half year, I kept on checking the alkaline and ion level and found out this system produced the same quality as new. I highly recommend this system and the .01 Biostone Filter is the must.

Barrier Premia Water Filter Pitcher

Barrier Premia Water Filter Pitcher, Filters up to 95 Gallons of H2O
  • The programable electronic microprocessor indicator determines the exact lifetime of the filter cartridge and lets you know when to replace it.
  • Barrier filter cartridges lasts more than 2x longer than the competition (95 Gallon Vs. 45 Gallon).
  • Funnel capacity: 1,1 litres.Pitcher capacity: 2,5 litres.The pitcher stores 1.16 quarts (5 cups) of purified water
  • Pitcher is constructed of high-quality plastic, andis Designedto fit the door of refrigerator.

Great product. There''s lot''s of competing brands out there that all filter water, but none last''s as long...95 gallons vs. 40. This is a no brainer! Water tastes great and saves money. Now when I taste the water from the tap, I can taste the chlorine and the iron in the water, but not with this pitcher. Also, I feel better now that I''m not putting so many plastic water bottles back into the earth. I feel better knowing I''m doing my part. Great buy!

I''m a college student and am experiencing my first quarter away from home, and away from the water purifier tap built-in to my (former) household. In desperate urge to get my hands on some quality purified water I thoroughly searched Amazon for the superior pitcher. Needless to say, Brita has gone downhill over these last years, their pitchers are faulty and their filters are lacking. There was this other fancy brand, Mavea, that cost about $5 more than the Premia, and there seemed to be an issue with the water capacity, but more importantly the quality of filtration. I thought there would be no better alternative than Brita or Mavea, when I spotted this baby, saw rave reviews and decided to purchase. The filters last twice as long as most other brands, and the water tastes excellent.I could not be happier with it, except for the lid, which you have to clasp in your fingers when you need a refill, but this does not inhibit the awesome rating of 5 stars that the Premia deserves.

I have searched Amazon up and down for water filtration pitchers, and I believe this one to be the best in terms of the quality of filters it uses, the design of the pitcher, and the price.

Want better coffee in the morning? This water filter was one of the solutions in our quest for perfect coffee (a Bunn coffee-maker, KitchenAid grinder, and whole beans were the others). Filtered water DOES make a difference, and the Premia does just what it is supposed to do. I can taste the difference.

The pitcher handle is surprisingly comfortable in your hand and gives you the strange sensation that the filled pitcher is lighter than you expect. I initially found myself dropping the top cover into the unfiltered water reservoir when trying to put it on after filling from the tap, and the the top''s slight "handle" is smooth such that it can slip out of your fingers'' hold if you aren''t careful. Wish that part of the piece was rougher. But this is a small criticism of a basically great product, and I never even considered trying a different brand. You can even pour filtered water before the filtering is complete (if you''re careful) without the unfiltered water pouring out once the majority of the unfiltered water has already met its filter fate. Now THAT is some thoughtful designing. It''s all but idiot-proof!

The Premia is an excellent product. Why can''t all products be so well-designed?

You want to hear something scary? I had these brown stains on my tea cup. I went on Amazon and ordered a culligan filter pitch and started using filtered water for my tea. Now the stains are gone. I wonder what the he!! Is in that water? This is an excellent product.

This is a nice handy product to use to filter water. Easy to assemble and use. Filters quickly. I prefer to store the water in a glass container afterwards to eliminate any plastic taste. Then I chill it in the frig. Keeps the filter ready to use later on. Lid stays on well when pouring water out.

The cover is hard to put on, the o-ring gets pinched, and the filter has to be cleaned every 3 wash cycles. That wouldn''t be bad if the filter was easy to clean, but it is a mukky mess. It clogs up and overflows, and if the o-ring is pinched it could flood your basement. The only way I can clean the filter is by scrapping the muck off with my fingernails, and then I have to do that every couple wash cycles. I wish I had just stuck with the women''s nylon sock in the sink.

Includes lid, basin, mounting bracket, ~5ft of rubber tubing, two hose clamps, two hose-barb-to-thread adapters to fit the inlet/outlet of the device, and two filters. Does NOT include mounting screws and washers, required for complete installation.

Instructions are practically non-existent, and fairly unhelpful (pretty much consisting of "screw the holder to a stud" and "clean the filter every 8-15 washes"). Lid and body do not couple tightly (the _bracket_ is actually what couples them, which the instructions do not state), and the lid will readily slide off and go flying if you try to open/close the unit while holding it without the mounting bracket. Snapped off the diffuser and chipped the edge of the groove for the metal latches on the mounting bracket while trying to figure out how the lid/body latched together. Device should neither be this fragile, nor this unintuitive (or, if it must be unintuitive, it should have some _real_ instructions).

Assembled all the inlets/outlets, cut the exit hose to length, attached the hoses/hose clamps, got it situated appropriately. Unit didn''t drain properly -it filled and overflowed. Changed orientations, height, and some other variables; futzed with it for an hour or so and about six drain cycles before identifying the culprit: the toe of the filter was long enough to dip into the outlet, and the toe is a thick, fibrous seam. Popping a small, disposable, emptied and capped water bottle into the basin alleviated the draining issue by keeping the toe away from the outlet; as the basin fills, the bottle floats, lifting the filter up and out of the way. Not that this does _not_ have to do with the filtration action, as the majority of the water trying to get out is already outside the filtering medium just trying to drain down the pipe. Currently, the bottle is not big enough to keep the toe comfortably away from the drain; I can just barely make it through a load without having to pause the machine during draining.

This is certainly _not_ the level of product polish I was expecting for $150; I probably could''ve done it myself with a bleach/milk/other large jug, a handful of plumbing hardware, and some pre-stretched nylon pantihose (the filter medium looks like essentially non-stretchy nylon mesh).

We have had this unit for over two years. It has worked very well. It was a little tought with the installation and I was afraid it would leak or the top would pop off but we have never had any problems. It is mounted one foot above the washer and drain pipe. Water has never gone back into the washer. I am not sure why this happened with the other reviewer.

The filter catches quite a bit of debris and prevents it from entering the drain. I am now looking for replacement filters since ours have aged beyond use and it is time to replace them.

I purchased and installed our Filtrol 160 unit approximately a year ago now (late May 2011) as part of a major septic system cleaning and upgrade I did on our 37 year-old septic system.

The filter bag length on the filter bags I have must have been corrected to address the problem raised by another reviewer with regard to the bottom of the bag plugging the drain at the bottom of the unit. My bags all have about an inch clearance between the bottom of the bag and the drain hole.

Until we replaced the washer last month, after it''s transmission leaked a bunch of lubricant on my wife''s load of whites, we did have to clean the bags much more frequently than I expected. It wasn''t the quantity of lint it caught but the off-white slimy coating which developed on the inside of the bag which necessitated frequent cleaning. If you didn''t keep the bag clean, the wash water bypassed the bag through the built-in, self-contained, overflow. Since installing the new washer exactly a month ago, I''ve not had to clean out the bag, even once. I now believe that the off-white slimy coating was, in fact, emulsified transmission lubricant which regularly leaked out during the warm water wash cycle. We just didn''t recognize it for what it was. Not good stuff to be putting in the septic system! My point in relating this finding is that the Filtrol 160 unit can also provide an early warning that the transmission is leaking in your washer. Way before you ruin a load of clothes. We were getting the slimy coating in the bags from the time of installation, way before we ever had so much lubricant leak into the washer that it was visible on the clothes. Just a great side benefit to having this unit installed on your washer discharge line!

I have two washers that do 50 plus loads a month. I was having a huge problem with lint, hair and similar items clogging up my pump tank pump and the sprinklers on my aerobic system. I stumbled across Filtrol and decided to purchase it.

Instillation is pretty basic, and I can see where it can be a problem depending on your washer and drain on where it has to mount to reach the unit to take out the filter. I also have found it depends on what is being washed, and if there are pets involved on how often the filter needs to be cleaned. That being said, I don''t have the problems that other reviews have had. I clean the filters as needed, I take them outside, turn them inside out and use a garden hose to flush them out. I also have to "rub down" the filters to remove the stubborn lint, as it can look clean but won''t filter the water. The "o" ring fits tight, as it should, and you have to take a little care to put the lid on the prevent it from pinching. Just as any "o" ring fitting does. Hint...hint....use some petroleum jelly on the "o" ring, you will be amazed at how well it slides on then. I have never had the water back up into the washer, nor have I had the problem of the bag being too long to block the drain. I have had the bag inflated because it has trapped so much lint and hair that it won''t drain, but that is a good thing as it kept it out of the drain. The bags I have are fitted with slots around the top of the bag to prevent an overflow. Replacement bags are available, use a search engine.

The results? My lint and hair problem in the aerobic system is GONE!!! Instead of having to pull the pump and clean it off and then clean all the strainers in the sprinklers a couple to three times a month, I do it on a six month interval, not because of a clog, but just as a general maintenance thing. I would rather empty the two Filtron''s I have every day or so rather than pull the pump and clean 16 sprinkler heads, it is a no brainer!

I wish I would have bought them sooner!

LOVE the product. Installation of the water line was much easier than I expected; however, the instructions/diagram were minimal. The vidoes on the site linked didn''t help, and when I called and "instant chatted" for help from their customer service, I had to leave a message and by the time they called me back I had fixed it myself.

It never did much for the taste of my water and gave out a wee bit soon. Mind you, the building I live in is ancient and the pipes very suspect. I''ve gone back to refilling empty water bottles at a distilled (every which way) water machine in front of k-mart for 30 cents/gal. I add my own electrolytes as my whole goal is to stay properly hydrated which I will not be able to force myself to do with tap water.

I believe the filter was effective at removing the truly harmful things. It just really fails in the taste department. Probably due to the very small amount of carbon in the filter which never lasts long anyhow. I might drill a hole in the cartridge and replace it with some cheap aquarium-grade stuff. Might eke another month or 2 out of it that way. But after that, I will discontinue use entirely.

Excalibur 3926T 9 Tray Large Food Hehydrator Save 14% Off

Excalibur 3926TW Excalibur 3926TW 9 Tray Dehydrator with Timer White, 1, WhiteWe purchased the dehydrator for ourselves and to create healthy treats for the dogs. So far so good! It''s easy to use and there is plenty of knowledge out there to help you make great treats.

Pros:

Simple to use set the temp, set the time, place the food on the trays and go.

Relatively quiet We''ve had it running for very long time periods with no noise issues. It''s not silent, yet it''s not annoying.

Timer is a HUGE plus VERY much recommend spending the extra $$ to get the timer model.

Cons:

unit does not come with the solid mats must be purchased separately if you want to make fruit leather or have items that are drippy (liver or other such things) you need the solid mats these really should ship with the unit.

quick guide for basic dehydrating is somewhat useful not the best by any means. We purchased a very good dehydration guide book separately do this!

Overall it''s a great unit we love the ability to keep our fruits and veg storage friendly and the taste is amazing!

The pups love their dehydrated snacks! liver, chicken hearts, yams, it''s easy and fun to do the dogs see this as the ''Magic snack machine'' :)

Hope that helps.

Before purchasing, I really did debate for quite a while if this was going to be one of my infamous "splurge, use it a handful of times, then watch it collect dust" routines. I''m so glad to say that I''m using it frequently, and achieving such great results! I find it comes in handiest for making delicious, raw snack foods: vegan, cheesy kale chips are to die for (!), sweet potato pumpkin seed crackers, super-thin sweet potato salty chips (you need to use a mandolin slicer that does the super, super-thin slices, such as the Benriner Slicer, which I also purchased from Amazon), and very delicious dried fruit last night I sliced up several Golden Delicious apples, sprinkled them with cinnamon, sliced ripened bananas and pears, and threw it all in the Excalibur. This morning it was all waiting for me, one fruit more delicious than the next. And, what I really love is that it extends beyond myself: my husband, sis, & friends were all on the fence about dehydration I love sharing what comes out of this machine with them...and love their enthusiasm even more!

Really love that this model has a timer, as I am spaced out and would totally lose track of when to shut the thing off. It is a bit large, like the size of a microwave if you use it and love it, you won''t care about that fact! As I''ve read other people complain, it''s certainly not silent as it operates. I would liken the noise to that of a clothes dryer. All I can offer is that my husband is an absolute stickler for irritating noises, he usually has zero tolerance (I was initially very worried I''d have to send this back..we have a small kitchen, and the machine should not be operated while stored in a closed cabinet, so they tell me), but, the low whirr of this thing doesn''t seem to bother him at all. I really do love this machine ;-)

I really like how many shelves there are and the fact that you can do a lot at one time. The food comes out great. I got the 9 shelf modle and it is big so you need room, it makes a fair amount of noise while running. I keep mine in the basement so i don''e hear it as much. If you are doing something that is not heavy such as kale chips they do tend to blow around on the shelves so be aware of that. However, with that said it is a great tool to have and works very well. I have enjoyed it a lot.

The delivery was quick. Very light weight unit. It fits and sits nicely on the counter top.

After checking the unit we ran some tests by dehydrating few different fruits and veggies.

The result: Dried them in few hours, but noticed two things.

1. The fan noise is a little bit loud as some other reviewers previously mentioned, but bearable.

2. On first to batches noticed that those close to the rear of the tray were nicely dried, but those on the middle and the front part of the tray were not dried completely. So on the third batch when it was on its halfway just pulled the trays and turned them and put them back. By doing this way I got nicely dehydrated fruit and veggie snacks.

Besides those two things the unit has been doing the job as expected. The timer is definitely a good thing to have.

With nine trays a large batch can be easily handled. Easy to clean and maintain the trays and inside.

Also as any tray can be removed it helps to handle larger/thicker pieces, no sweat.

The 10 yr warranty... well... only the time will tell, but it gives a peace of mind at least.
