I live in an apartment and a few months ago I got new neighbors in the apartment below. They smoke constantly and often have parties with 8-10 people in a tiny apartment all smoking all night. The building is old, the smoke comes through not only the ventilation system, but directly through the floors and fills my apartment with the disgusting stench of Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS). If you''re suffering from annoying odors, ETS, or allergies, this is the machine for you. It''s really made all the difference.

I''ve tried cheaper air cleaners and they just don''t keep my allergies clear like my Austin Air. The Austin Air does not require costly (and often difficult to find) filter replacements. Instead, you just vacuum off the surface and the machine''s good to go for a couple of weeks. Think of it this way, if there''s dust on top, you want to wipe out the vents.

We had one incident with a bearing problem in one of our machines and Austin Air replaced the machine under warranty with us only being out the cost of postage. They''re great people to deal with--friendly, helpful, and they got my machine back FAST during cedar fever season.

It''s been over a year since I bought this air purifier, so I figured I''d better hop back on here and review it. I never had a "good" air purifier before owning this one. This is a serious air purifier. I live in a small apartment with 3 cats and I pretty much run this air purifier 24/7 in my bedroom and sometimes push it out to the living room to clear the air out there. My allergy symptoms are much less magnified with this machine running. I sleep so much better at night, cause I can breath a lot better. I used to wake up in the morning with coughing or wheezing from allergies (probably from the cats) and I don''t experience this anymore. On the lowest setting, I can hardly even hear it running in the corner of my bedroom. I crank it up to the highest setting when I''m not in the room, and it''s pretty loud but cleans a lot of air.

I like to run this machine in a room after vacuuming and cleaning, it pulls the dust and other stuff that gets kicked up, it can clear a room fast on the highest setting. Sometimes I''ll vacuum the floors and furniture (lots of cat hair to pick up of course) then push this machine into the room and crank it up to high, then leave and come back in a couple hours. Clean floors, furniture and air await me when I return.

I really like that this is a simple and straightforward machine. Plug it in and turn it to one of the speed settings and that is about it. No electronics to fail or wear out. Just need to replace the filter every few years. I like this machine a lot.

Wow! This is a great product. I had a Sprite shower filter in the past but because it was made from plastic it eventually broke. I stared looking for one made of metal but figured since everything is going to cheap plastic these days I would never find one. Surprise! This one was the answer. I have been using this dehumidifier for several weeks. It does what it is supposed to, and is somewhat quieter than the one it replaced, which I appreciate. I also like how the air filter is designed so it is simply pulled out of the side of the unit for cleaning.

This dehumidifier seems to work well if you can empty the reservoir regularly. Since we are out of our house for months at a time, I need to attach a hose so the water will run out. Our first dehumidifier lasted only three years (a Zenith ZD30)so we needed a new one. When I wanted to set a hose up for continuous water flow, the hose provided was too short and too narrow. I couldn''t attach it to the exit nozzle. I went to Home Depot (I bought it through Home Depot online) and asked if they had any ideas for me. After some thought, we decided to take a thicker hose.

I ended up using the thicker hose from HD and a hose clamp to attach it to the nozzle. Since the presence of the hose clamp does not allow the water reservoir to be inserted correctly, I needed to tape the lever (the lever the tells the machine that the reservoir is inserted correctly) with cardboard and duct tape.

I did use the tiny piece of hose pipe that was provided when I inserted it into the garden hose that leads to the shower. Then I inserted the tiny hose into the Home Depot hose, thereby making a leak-free communication of hoses.

In the end, the machine works fine, but you will need to make some significant modifications if you want the condensation to flow out continuously.

I have a semi-submerged basement that gets a little muggy, particularly in the summer, so I purchased this unit not even a year ago to help keep the area comfortable. While the unit ran fine for about 9-10 months, it promptly began to malfunction as it neared the one year mark. Condensation appeared on the right side of the unit and frost began to collect on the coils. I have let it defrost several times, but the ice always reappears, and actually gets so thick that it makes removing the bucket and filters difficult. While it''s true that I used this appliance almost constantly, I think if I pay 200 dollars plus for a device it should function reliably for more than a year.

I ordered this brand because of the Energy Star rating. we always try to do a small bit to conserve energy for our growing world. It is a bit loud as described in other reviews so I wouldn''t recommend for your living area, but we use it in the basement and that is not a problem. I wish that it had a larger capacity tank as we need to change it 2x a day. There is a ''work-around'' in that it has a setup for constant drainage but we have no place to drain into so we will put up with the small tank. At least it has an automatic shut-off should the tank reach capacity. Our old Sears reconditioned dehumidifier lasted 20 years, so we hope that we can get close to that with this one. I would, so far, recommend this brand and model to anyone with the caveats of this review and others. At least,now, our lights don''t dim each time a dehumidifier cycles on like the old one.

I have been using the 8302 bleach version of FluidMaster 8300 Series Cleaning system for years. I have a well water supply in which the water is chlorinated and then the chlorine is removed by a whole house carbon filtration system. Hence, no chlorine is present in the water supply in the house. The 8302 chlorine refills have solved the toilet bowl cleanliness problems, as well as preserved my toilets'' internal plastic parts. The softer the water and the more frequent the toilet use, the more of these refills are required.

Here''s the big tip if you are handy, this is easy; if not, it''s still not very hard. Pool and spa supply stores sell chlorine tabs for spa chlorinators which will fit inside the FluidMaster cleaning system. Example: 100 250 tabs for $20. All you need is a vise and a few scredrivers to secure the refill cartridge and pry off the end cap, which is fitted pretty tight. I use a suction base swiveling hobby vise ($25 or so). Insert new tab, replace cap, done. Have some spare cartridges on hand and refill them all at once. I have replaced the tabs in this manner at least 15 to 20 times per refill cartridge. Eventually you will have to replace the refill cartridge, as your prying efforts will gouge the end cap too much for subsequent use, and the cartridges themsleves become brittle over an extended length of use (years). I have reduced my costs using this method to practically nil.

Amazon''s photo with this item (as of November 2008) is of the wrong product. The photo shows the blue refills, which are worthless unless you just like blue water. This product, Fluidmaster 8302, is bleach--not blue--refills for their Flush ''n Sparkle cleaning system. I added my own "customer image" of the correct product; look closely and you can see both "8302" and "bleach" clearly printed on the tab at the top of the box.

The bleach refills are the best toilet-cleaning product you can buy. Even if the Flush ''n Sparkle system you installed in your toilet originally had a blue cartridge in it, you can use bleach refills, which I strongly advise.

Their only disadvantage is that you can''t tell just by looking at the water when the cartridge is empty. But removing the cartridge every few months to see if it''s empty is a lot easier than scrubbing the toilet bowl every week, which is what you''ll be doing if you use the blue cartridges.

I am writing a review of three toilet cleaning systems I''ve bought here on amazon:

Fluidmaster:

Uses a cartridge containing a chlorine based tablet.

Cartridge is not meant to be refilled.

Chlorine odor noticeable in the bathroom.

Cartridge can be modified (I used a dremel) so it is easily refilled.

NeverScrub:

Uses a cartridge containing a chlorine based crystal.

Cartridge is not meant to be refilled.

Chlorine odor noticeable in the bathroom.

Kaboom:

Does not use a cartridge. Bromine tablet refill inserts directly by unscrewing a cap.

No odor noticeable in the bathroom.

All three of these systems work the same way and all are really easy to install. All of them put a toilet cleaning chemical (tablets or crystals) in-line between the water fill valve and the toilet bowl fill pipe. All of them prevent the chemical from getting into the tank water (so there is no damage to the plastic parts in the tank). All sell refills for their systems. All keep the toilet bowl equally clean for about 1-3 months depending on how often it is flushed.

Amazon also sells Pool/Spa Cleaning Chlorine and Bromine tablets, which as far as I can tell do just as good a job keeping the toilets clean as the refills but at a fraction of the cost. I have tried all of the following, each of which provide enough tablets to keep all the toilets in the house clean for 10 years and they are all very cheap:

Kem-Tek 177:

The tablets fit well in the dremel-tool modified Fluidmaster cartridges.

The tablets fit well in the Kaboom.

The bathroom has a slight chlorine odor.

Spa-Kem 267:

The tablets are too large to fit in the Fluidmaster cartridges.

The tablets fit well in the Kaboom.

No odor.

Tropi Clear:

The tablets fit well in the dremel-tool modified Fluidmaster cartridges.

The tablets fit well in the Kaboom.

No odor.

Chlorine and Bromine are fairly equal in cleaning ability. Chlorine has that chlorine odor. Bromine is broken down by sunlight. Which is why, on a sunny day, outdoor pools use chlorine. But at night, or indoors, or on a cloudy day, they use bromine since there is no smell.

Summary. The Fluidmaster system works but the cartridges are expensive. To refill the cartridges easily requires a small modification with a dremel tool. The cartridge is too small for any tablets larger than 1 inch in diameter. The NeverScrub system also works but the cartridges are expensive. What I am using is the Kaboom system with the bromine tablets (either the Tropi Clear or the Spa-Kem 267) as they have no odor and clean just as well as the chlorine tablets.

First of all, Fluidmaster is a very fine company and the cartridge bleach concept is a wonderful way to keep the toilet clean and, at the same time, not damage the components in the tank.

However, the price of at least $5 per bleach cartridge and their lack of ready availability is a negative. Here is another approach for the handy guy (or gal).

Carefully pry off the BOTTOM cap of the empty cartridge using a thin flat blade screwdriver. Hold the cartridge firmly while doing this. Once it starts to show a gap, use a larger flat blade screwdriver to remove this cap.

Go to Lowes and buy the 3.75# bottle of Aqua Chem 1" x 1" chlorinating tablets. Price is about $23. Put three of these in the cartridge and press the cap back in place. You are ready to go. Just use safety precautions handling the bleach.

If you screw up the "O" ring at the top of the cartridge, get a new one at ACE hardware for about 70 cents.

I have previously purchased filters, that this time around were no longer available. No problem, as there is a replacement. The information was rather vague, as to exactly which filter(s) to replace my obsolete ones with! Took my best, educated guess, and was successful. Moral Selection could be made a bit clearer to end user! Additionally the filters that came were not exact replacements, in that the coupling on the filter was different. First thought was "oh boy" wrong filter. It worked fine, but again it would have been helpful to have enclosed some written notification stating the new configuration was workable, and perhaps an explanation of the difference. I purchased the 560088 two years ago for a replacement. The designed changed from the original. That was not a problem, it still worked.

I just purchased another set and after installation the unit made a LOUD whistling sound. So I removed everything cleaned o-rings, installed again, and still the same LOUD annoying sound.

So I took it apart again and see the problem. The carbon filter that I removed has a white tip on each end where the water would flow through. That tip does not exist on the new model. If you take the new model and blow some air through it you will hear the sound, do the same with the old model, no sound.

I returned to Amazon and sent Watts an email. If I cannot get a replacement that works I will now have to replace the entire unit. If so the next unit WILL NOT be a Watts.

Honeywell Quick Steam Warm Moisture Humidifier

Clearly a lot of people have had problems with this unit. When mine failed after about 6 weeks of use, I dug into it to see what was up. It ends up that the overheat protection on this thing isn''t real great. The first layer of overheat protection is provided by a sensor integrated into the heating element. I can''t tell exactly, but it seems from the element manufacturer''s literature (....) that the device sends a cut off signal between 250 and 300 C, per the chart on page 4. However, Honeywell used an NEC-Schott SF214E thermal cutoff as a backup device. This fails permanently if it''s heated to 214 C. In other words, the backup, "sacrifice the machine and not the house it''s in" device fails before the normal operation re-settable thermal cutoff. As a result, the device will probably stop working the first time it runs dry. Don''t buy it.

Of four units that were sent, three failed after one or two nights'' use. Don''t bother.

Unfortunately, my experience was the same as most other reviewers. I only got two months use out of the unit before it stopped working completely: no mist, lights or power. Honeywell makes wonderful humidifiers, but this model is a complete dud.

I have a couple of tips for other unfortunate souls who are about to return this horrible humidifier. A rep from KAZ told me to send the unit in to their Return Department and they would replace it at no cost (although I have to pay for the shipping to KAZ). If you''re returning one of these units, be sure to tell the rep to do the following: waive the $10 warranty fee, and send a different model of humidifier as a replacement. The rep I spoke to had no problem with either of these requests. Now, I''ll just have to wait and see if they follow-thru on a good replacement.

I have a newer model, 3 gallon, HMWM-331. After going through 3 other brands with very poor results this season, this one is a winner! Very quiet (no gurgling); it will not disturb an infant or a light sleeper, as opposed to the Bionaire and others, efficient and easy to clean. So far, no mineral build-up, even though our water is quite hard. It uses disposable mineral absorption pads. The only inconvenience is filling the tankit doesn''t sit flat and you need to support at an angle. but that is really minor, given the quiet efficient operation and attractive design. Low price too. This is the best we''ve ever had. The phone support is also good. Kaz works for many brands and they are quite responsive, even though many of the brands aren''t very good. I definitely recommend this unit to anyone looking for a very quiet warm mist unit for a mid-size room.

I never got the chance to actually use the water filter as it had a defective part. When I contacted the seller, they told me they would send a replacement part. They never sent the part. I sent them three follow up emails and the seller did not have the courtesy nor the consideration to respond to any of them, so I returned the product.

This company doesn''t have the first clue as to how to conduct Customer Service. I will purchase a water filter somewhere else.

Does what it is supposed to do. Easy installation. It should last for years. What more could you ask?

This is for the most part a great filter. Too bad the fitting that goes on the faucet does not have enough thread depth to stay firmly on my faucet. I took the gasket out and then put duct tape all around. It works with just a few leaks. I keep adding more duct tape so the problem is improving. Probably most people don''t want to have to do this! I may get to the hardware store to find out if a thinner gasket is available.

I''ve been drinking alkaline water for my health for a few years now, I decided to get a machine because bottled alkaline water is getting so expensive.

I am so glad I did!

This water is so much better than bottled water! It tastes better, so much more refreshing, and I have tons of energy! I got my LIFE on Friday, I felt so good over the weekend, what a huge difference!

Brought to my attention by a client of mine, I was intrigued to hear about water ionizers and the health benefits they had to offer. Because of the significant financial investment, I wanted to make sure that a water ionizer machine was what was needed in order to achieve the amazing health benefits. After doing a fair amount of research, I came across Life Ionizers. Their machines were some of the best that I had found and their "About Us" section on their website captured my heart!

My neighbor was actually signing me up to buy another brand of ionizer instead, but I found out that the company was involved in multi-level marketing, and it made me second guess the quality of their product. I did a little more research with Life, and quickly ordered a Life Ionizer 9100 for my son and I after reading about all of the amazing health benefits that this water offers. My neighbor ended up being so jealous of the features of my ionizer that she bought one for herself!!

After using the Life 9100 since December (and being absolutely BLOWN away by the results), I ordered the 9200 for myself because my son was taking our machine off to school with him (it helps his stomach and acid reflux). The 9200 is amazing because it installs so easily under my sink! This water has helped me slowly get rid of my kidney problems over the past 8 months, has helped increase my immune system (I''m hardly EVER sick now!), and is amazing after my mid-morning jog for rehydration (Delicious!).

It is such a healthy convenience to get chemical-free and great tasting alkaline water at home. I even use the acidic "waste" water to boil my eggs and to wash my hair :]

I''ve been researching alkaline water systems for some time now. I found the 9200 model perfect for us. We have the unit installed in our main home. However we are "Snowbirds" and travel to Arizona for the winter months. We liked the fact that we could take our ionizer with us and connect it as a counter top model at our condo. We have well water at our main home in Michigan and liked that there was the Ultra Violet Light option for our untreated water. We were also given a special pre filter designed to filter contaminants out of the untreated well water. I was able to install the unit myself after watching the installation video online. I called Technical Support and I did have have a few questions but Ricardo was very patient and explained how to resolve them. Since my wife and I have been drinking alkaline water, not only do we have more energy but my acid reflux is gone. What a relief!! I could never go back to drinking regular water again after experiencing the health benefits of alkaline water.

I bought this machine six months ago and could not be more happy with my purchase. I have it under my counter and love the stainless steel faucet for easy use and more counter space. Customer service and their tech dept are really helpful and I feel supported with any questions that may come up. I just did the citric acid cleaner and their tech dept walked me through it. I love the water and now have a few friends and family who come fill their containers from my machine to take home with them. I get compliments on my clear glowing skin all the time and definitely feel an increase in energy. I use the acid water for cleaning and for washing my hair. I''ve even noticed a change in my dog''s energy level since he started drinking the water. I could not be more pleased and would recommend this ionizer to anyone!

I had heard about these life machines from friends and didn''t believe the water could be better. I thought all water was the same. Then my girl friend gave me a gallon and I could taste the difference. And I felt more

energy just like she did. I also seemed to help my stomach feel better. I liked the machine a lot as it looked nice in my kitchen I got the black unit as it matched my appliances. When it came it had a video and it seemed simple enough to hook up but I had my handyman husband call the life company and talked to a nice technician man who walked him through the set up. I also bought it with the UV light system as I read that New York and other big cities use this and the new small UV lights are supposed to work well. Overall I like this life company and their product a lot. I am giving it four stars as the life ionizer was the best kitchen product I have ever bought because it helped my health!

I used this in my kitchen for a water dispenser. I actually bought a different faucet along with a water heater so I have both cool and hot filtered water coming out of the dispenser. Hope it extends the life of my water heater.

One item to note. Be sure to install it where you can move it into a bucket when changing the filter. It comes apart and all the water spills.

The flow of the water is very adequate for filling mugs and getting some cool filtered water to drink.

I really liked the specs for the filter as it appears to do so well I felt comfortable not buying a reverse osmosis unit, which is what I originally thought I would do. I didn''t like the waste water of the osmosis unit too.

Excellent flow rate. I have one on the 45'' sailboat and one in the kitchen at home. Eliminates all taste and odor from the water. Easy to install. Home unit sits on the cabinet floor in the back of the cabinet so little usable space is lost although unit can be mounted off the cabinet wall if needed. Filters last a long time. It would be nice if they offered more upscale faucet designs in various finishes.

I received a wrong product. After filing the wrong shipment, I got a reply back from Ed, and he offered a free filter which is worth about $80. A week later I received a product I originally ordered and kept along with the wrong item which was the replacement filter with free of charge!

Nice and quick response makes me very happy after all!
