Reliable Steamboy T1 Steam Floor Mop Save 10% Off

Reliable Steamboy T1 Steam Floor MopHalleluia! When my Bissell Steam Mop finally ''died'' and I found out they didn''t make them anymore I was devastated. The only place I found to buy them was ebay at a whopping $250! Anyway, I searched online for other models and read all their reviews. None of the reviews for other products sounded any where near the quality and hard work of my old Bissell. I saw this model (The Steamboy) and it looked similar to the Bissell, however nobody had written a review, so I was a little skeptical.

I''m here to tell ya this product is as good or, dare I say, even better than the Bissell for several reasons: 1. it is lighter weight (but not flimsy) so my arms don''t get tired 2. the head pivots easier and it is triangular in shape so it gets into the nasty corners under my kitchen counters and behind my toilets even better 3. the pads are easier to put on than the Bissell and the draw string to tighten them on is longer and therefore easier to work with and lastly 4. it has a carry handle and doesn''t fall over when standing upright as my old Bissell did. Cons are 1. you have to make sure that the tank is all the way in or it is a little drippy 2. the cord could be longer, but I can''t remember the Bissell''s being any longer than this one.

So, if you want to replace your Bissell or give one as a gift this is definately an affordable option. If you''ve never used a steam mop, you will be amazed and disgusted by how clean your floors get and realize how dirty they REALLY were all those years when you used the ol'' mop and bucket. This is faster too and requires no chemicals to clean!

(#1 Hall OF FAME REVIEWER)(#1 REVIEWER)(update: This review was updated on 11-2-09 after I got to compare the Bissell as well as add notes about the Ladybugg steamer at the bottom, and then on 11-30 when I got to compare the SteamFast SF-140 and on 12-7 to compare the Steam Boy)

I live in a neighborhood where EVERY home is "green built certified" this means that, to have that certification, the builder built no homes with carpet. All the main floors are polished concrete and the upper floors wood. The bathrooms all have tile and/or slate in every home.

Because of this, as you could imagine, steam mops are quite the neccessity...not only because they get the hard surfaces better than anything else, but because they are also "green" and clean chemical free. I''ll be honest, for us...that''s a bonus but we weren''t cleaning chemical free before. We like chemical free for our pet''s paws but I''ll confess I was mopping with chemicals before I got my steamer and just kept the pets out of the room while doing it because, up until then, I couldn''t get it clean any other way.

Okay, so that said...we decided to have a steamer show down to compare 7 different steamers because my friends and I knew as long as we are in these homes we are gonna have to have a steamer to get all these hard floors clean...we may as well figure out which one to buy next go round. Because my own home is graced with 2 cats, 3 dogs, and two gregarious cooks, my kitchen floor (which had not ever been cleaned by a steamer since my steamer had just arrived) was the testing spot.

Mind you, I vaccuum twice per week and do a mega mop twice a week. I THOUGHT I had pretty clean floors in spite of my pet capacity.

I thought wrong. These picked up dirt so well it''s scary

So here''s the results:

1. steam mops are the mac daddys of clean floors. What these things picked up was tremendous and no comparison to my vigorous prior constant major mopping.

2. So now I''ll break down the elements of each mop we used and then go into more detail about each at the end.

We tried out:

"S": The shark by Europro

"E" The Envirosteamer by Eureka

"H" the haan steamer

"M" the Monster

"B" The Bissell Green Tea

"SF" The SteamFast SF-140 by SteamFast

"SB" The SteamBoy T1

CORD LENGTH: so you don''t have to stop and unplug and replug in somewhere else:

Shark ( will be referred to as S):20 feet

Envirosteamer (will be referred to as E): 25 feet

Haan: (will be referred to as H)19''8"

Monster (will be referred to as M): 25 feet

Bissell (will be referred to as B) 17 feet

SteamFast (will be referred to as SF): 18.7 ft.

SteamBoy (will be referred to as SB): 16 ft.

STEAM TEMPERATURE: this is a primary element. The hotter the steam, the more dirt picked up and hot steam will also kill parasites, mold and mildew and loosen more dirt:

S 110 degrees. lame

E 220 degrees. very hot

H 212 degrees. very hot

M 266 degrees. hottest...although the envirosteamer and haan seemed plenty hot enough. The shark didn''t clean nearly as well and this was one reason. 110 degrees just isn''t going to melt off stuck on grime.

B 125 degrees. Note that, because of this low steam temperature the manual said that if I wanted to sanitize the floor or pick up caked on spills, I had to hold the steamer on the spot for 15 seconds but no more than 20 because that could damage some floors. Now I don''t know about you, but if I can sanitize with one swipe of the other steamers because of their sanitizing temps my floor will be done WAY faster but I don''t have a timer to worry about the extra 5 secons where my wood floors could get damaged. My sink water is hotter than this so it would take less time to use a regular mop if I have to hold the steamer on every spot of my floor for 15 seconds to santize. Just sayin

SF: 137 degrees. Not hot enough to clean well nor sanitize.

SB: 120 degrees. Not hot enough to clean well nor sanitize

BUILD:

We found how it was made corresponded with issues with the steamer. The Shark, for example, was quite flimsy and they actually sell replacement handle kits because so many people have issues with the handle breaking! We know this because my neighbor''s shark broke and the store had a replacement handle kit on the shelf because he said "it happens often". That''s an extra cost.

Envirosteamer: Was 5.4 lbs which made it lightweight but strong enough that you didn''t have to press down to clean. Very well made and strong parts

Haan: not made as well as the envirosteamer but it''s more expensive so this was a surprise. A bit flimsy and you need to press down on it more to clean at 3.15 lbs.

Monster: hefty and well made at 9 lbs but a bit too heavy unless you want a good workout. (Note: They have changed the Monster handles on the mops now and they are all plastic and people are having breakage issues)

Bissell: It''s 8.4 pounds but that includes a water filter that you have to get for this one (see notes below)

SteamFast: very flimsy plastic all over, but it''s also more affordable than the other mops so it''s a bit of a trade off. 7 lbs.

SteamBoy: They didn''t even ship this preassembled like the other mops. We had to assemble it! Pretty flimsy plastic. 9 lbs but that includes the water filter you have to get with this one (see notes below) This is the only mop I''ve ever seen that only has ONE jet.

WATER CAPACITY: Very important because having to stop and add more water just adds on to the time you have to spend cleaning, especially if you are cleaning a hallway or livingroom or some other area that has no sink:

S: only holds 10 oz of water. Lasted for 10 miinutes of cleaning

E: holds 20 oz. of water. Lasted for over 20 minutes of cleaning (we stopped at 20 and it was still going)

H: holds 11.83 oz of water. Lasted for 13 minutes of cleaning

M: holds 17 oz. of water. Lasted for 15 minutes of cleaning

B: holds 13 oz of water, lasted for 12.5 minutes of cleaning AND you have to undo and remove the tank from the machine every time you fill it up then hook it back on and the steam tank is on the handle rather than the base so the steam doesn''t flow directly out after heating up which may explain why it''s not as hot once it leaves the machine. The way this mop is made the water flows past heating elements which can, according to Bissell, develop calcium deposits on it so this is the only mop where, because of this, you also have to use a water filter with it and replace the water filter when there is build up which means and extra 12 bucks every few months. The better mops are made to heat the water in a metal tank so this is not an issue and you pour the water directly into the tank.

SF: Holds the least amount of water and I had to stop and fill up and get the water reheated often in trying to clean the floor. Only holds 8 oz of water and if you use 8 oz it gets your floor too wet so we wound up filling it with just 7.5 oz of water for best results and it only lasted 7 minutes when we did that before we had to refill again.

SB: 24 oz BUT it only lasted for 12 minutes of cleaning. I think because of the build. This one also is made so that the water has to flow past heating elements down the handle, rather than flowing directly from a hot tank to the floor at the base. Because of this it can develop calcium deposits inside the mop so you have to also buy a water filter for this mop and replace it every few months when there is build up which means extra cost and, quite possibly, more repairs. Because this does not flow directly out of a hot tank it cools on the way down and possibly with this one evaporates somehow because we tried it twice and the steam simply didn''t last as long as it should.

STEAM HOLES: We found a difference although you''d think they''d all be the same. The shark and the SteamBoy only had one hole that the steam came out of so it wasn''t cleaning things on the edges, just in ONE small spot in spite of the size of the mop head! All the others had steam coming from all over the bottom and sides. (the others has approx 12 steam jets.)

SIZE: The taller it is the less stooping, the wider the mop head, the more it covers

S: 40"Hx12"Wx7"D

E: 50"Hx13.25"Wx6.75"D (the fact that this depth was smaller made it reach under applicances better...it fit better under things)

H: 50.5x11.5x7.5

M: 48x12.7.5

B: 45.25H (this was uncomfortably short) x11 x8.4 (even though this didn''t fit under cabinets because of the depth it did swivel the best)

SF:49x11.8x7

SB: 28.2x6.9x7.9

Conclusion of comparison: First it must be pointed out that, in order to use the shark and the Bissell and the SteamBoy, you had to keep pumping the water. This was the most annoying feature of anything...the others just steamed on their own and didn''t wear out your fingers. Hated this feature of the shark and Bissell and SteamBoy. We liked that the Monster, the Shark, the Envirosteamer, the SteamFast and the Bissell came with 2 cleaning pads rather than one. The Haan only came with one at the time of the review (I double checked since when she bought hers it was also only one and as of today, that hasn''t changed) so that ups the price even more because I can''t imagine only wanting one to clean. All worked well on sanitizing mattresses and showers. too.

But the winner picked by all of us unanimously as the mop we want to have for our next steam mop order?

The Eureka Envirosteamer. It picked up the most dirt, was made as well as the Monster but was less expensive, held the most water, emitted the most very hot steam so it sanitized as well, lasted 3 times as long with one water resevor fillup as the others, and had a cord as long as the monster. BUT if you have carpets than I would recommend the Monster because it has a carpet attachment that allows you to steam clean your carpets and it picked up pretty close to the same amount of dirt as the Eureka Envirosteamer, and had close to the same features...a bit heavier though but that may make it last even longer. It is costlier, but to clean 2 surfaces I would think that might make it worth it. It should be noted that the SteamBoy took almost twice as long to heat up initially compared to the other mops.

UPDATE: The Haan just started including 2 pads with the mop according to the product description page. Not that this changes our opinion since it didn''t work as well and the parts were flimsier, but it should be noted that this issue of not having enough cleaning pads has now been resolved and is equal to the other mops.

ANOTHER UPDATE: 1. The Shark came out with a new machine that holds more water and has a longer cord BUT it still only heats the water to 110 degrees so it won''t sanitize or get rid of trapped grime at this "bathwater" temperature.

Another update: I haven''t tried it yet but was told about an even better mop than the Eureka Envirosteamer but I can''t personally afford it...still, it''s worth mentioning in case you can. It''s called the Ladybug XL2300 and is a canister steam mop. It heats the water to 298 degrees (woah!) so it''s a super sanitizer but it''s over a thousand bucks. It also comes with 6 towels. I didn''t include it in my review because I haven''t ever tried it and I wanted to only include mops I personally tried but it''s got great enough stats that, even though it''s out of my price range, I thought I''d pass it on as a super sanitizer.

Also: Don''t spend money buying extra pads for the Eureka. I was in a pinch and used a kitchen dish towel...the rectangular kind...just clip on both ends. It worked just as good or better...because they are thinner so the steam penetrates faster and therefore reaches the floor hotter. However, I would recommend still only using the thick pads that come with it for your wood floors just to be safe. But the super hot steam penetrating the dish towel worked excellent on tile and hard floors. Also, you can flip both the towel and the pads that come with it on the Eureka to double the usage...when it gets dirty, just flip it over and use the other side. I use several old dish towels with this but I like best the kind that just have a bit of texture but no squares sewn on them...but they all work great. So do the pads.

I had very high hopes for this product and I have been very disapointed.

I could achieve similar results by pouring out a bucket of hot water on my floor and wrapping towels around my feet to move the water around. I can only assume that something is not functioning correctly and there is too much water too fast. The "tank" is supposed to last 20 minutes (according to the instruction book 30 min according to the Reliable website) mine was empty within 10. In addition, there was more steam coming out of the swivel head connection than the bottom of the mop.

I read the assembly instructions carefully and I am confident that it was assembled properly (even let my husband double check! ;-))

The short troubleshooting guide mentions nothing about my two issues 1) too much water on the floor 2) steam coming from the swivel head more than the floor

I contacted Reliables technical support group and received a call back telling me that I should not be holding down the trigger continuously but just hold it until the steam starts and then stop and hit it again when I need more steam. While this definitely cut down on the water I fail to see how this can be classified as a steam cleaning of the floor. As soon as I release the trigger the steam stops. So, instead of steam cleaning my floor, I get a burst of steam followed by wiping the floor with a damp, hot cloth. I hit the trigger again, burst of steam, let go, steam immediately stops, push the floor mop around hoping that the damp, hot cloth is actually doing anything to effectively clean my kitchen floor let alone "Sanitizing"

The description on the website says " 30 minutes CONTINUOUS steam"

The instruction manual mentions nothing about clicking the trigger on until steam starts and then letting go. It says to hold down the trigger over the area you want clean I assume this means continuously as I would like my entire kitchen floor clean!

I contacted the technical support again explaining that I was still unhappy and either wanted verification that my unit is defective and be sent a replacement or if it is working properly to send me instructions on how to get a refund. It has been almost two weeks and have not heard back anything. I just resent the email to their customer service department and hope to get an acceptable solution to this.

I noticed in the forums that there have been other customers who also had "leak" issues. I THINK mine is defective but I cannot recommend this product in any way given how it has performed as well as the lack of quality, fast customer service and resolution to product problems.

If I am told by Reliable that my unit is defective and I am sent one that performs better, I would gladly update this review.

This is the first time I have ever written a product review I must be pretty "steamed" ;-)

I am very pleased with the Reliable Steam Mop: it leaves the floor immaculate, it gets up hardened messes that would have required scraping before, it gets in small, convoluted spaces, it is very light-weight, the water reservoir is big enough to do a lot of floor, the mop-head cover is very easy to use and to wash, it uses tap water or distilled water. Now my suggestions for improvement: first and foremost, there should be an on-off switch in the handle; and second, the cord could definitely use another ten feet. Also, not really a complaint, but good to know, it does leave quite a bit of water on the floor, so it takes a while to dry. I turn on the ceiling fans, and that helps a lot. I would recommend this product!

The Steamboy Floor Mop did not disappoint. I have a high gloss, white tile floor in the kitchen, dining room, and hallway. When cooking, the tiniest of greasy splatters would smudge-track everywhere. I used to get down on my hands and knees with a spray cleaner rather than drag out a mope and bucket or my Swiffer Wet Jet that always over-sprays and stains my stainless (more work). The mop heats up in minutes and the floor is back to squeaky clean in no time. One hint: after filling the water tank and plugging it in, pull the trigger for a minute to gurgle the water down into the the lines. I didn''t and wasn''t getting any steam. This company''s customer service dept. via Chris took the time to open up a Steamboy, assemble and trouble shoot my issue. Incredible!( I know it says to empty the tank, but I keep water in mine and just whip it out of the closet for a quick clean-up.) Enjoy yours.

Alkaline 3.5 Liter Water Pitcher

Alkaline 3.5 Liter Water Pitcher, Make Your Own Alkaline Mineral WaterSo many of my friends saw me using this thing and wanted water from it. My entire family now drinks akaline water

My Brita water pitcher is more sturdy than this one. Seems a bit cheap. The top always falls off so i don''t even use it anymore. I mostly filter it and put it into another pitcher. For the price i wish it was better quality.

Buy Alkaline 3.5 Liter Water Pitcher Now

This was by far the best price I could find on the net for an alkaline pitcher.

It works great and raised the PH of the water up at least 2 points.

Our water is rather acid (around a 5-6 PH) and this brings it up to about an 8 ph.

I got a test kit from home depot and tested the bottle water that we drink as well.

It also tested at a Ph of 5!! I was suprised how acid it was, especially if you are paying for what

you think is healthy water! We switched to a different brand of bottled water that consistently tested

at about a 7.2 PH and we put that through this pitcher which raises it to about a 9.5 PH.

More and more research seems to be showing that drinking water above the neutral PH of 7, is

very beneficial to your overal health. I hope that is true. I did notice right away after about 2 weeks of drinking

water through this pitcher that my skin got a lot clearer.

Overall I am very pleased with this product!

If you are looking to increase your water PH level in a cheap way and get some added health benefits

then I think you will be happy with this product!!

Vicks 1.0 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier

Vicks 1.0 Gallon Cool Mist HumidifierThis humidifier is cheaper than most, especially if you buy something else from the same manufacturer (the $10 off $30 coupon helps out).

It only has two speeds, low and high. HIgh is somewhat noisy, but what you would expect. However low is whisper quiet, you can''t even really tell it''s on at all. I have a somewhat large room 17x14 or so, and it easily keeps it humid in here (I have a clock that has humidity on it, and can see the difference). As far as replacement filters, it appears as those are reasonable as well.

It doesn''t have any real features, but it works and it has worked well for me so far with no complains. Quiet, cheap, and humidifes, it''s win-win.

I originally purchased this unit for my child''s room 2 years ago -worked fine. There was no soaked carpet, no leaks, no fires, and no problems finding filters. I even liked the level of sound it would get loud gradually. My child (now 2 yrs old) loved the sound so much we had to find a sound machine to duplicate it.

We purchased another unit for our second child''s room. Strangely, this unit worked differently than the first. The second one leaked (very litte nothing a hand towel under the unit couldn''t fix) and was MUCH louder than the first. I also found that I needed to refill this unit more often than I did the first.

I didn''t see too much of a problem with the difference, just thought it was worth mentioning...

I started getting sick, and for the first time since grade school had a bloody nose. That coupled with getting dry mouthed and dry skin and chapped lips every morning made me consider a humidifer.

When I went to the store I wanted a cool mist one, as cool mist would be nice in my room that is hot and dry during the winter. I expecte a misting machine, this thing doesnt mist, but I''m happy it doesn''t after reading all the review of people with soggy carpets because of their misters...

Since having this I haven''t felt as dry in the morning which is nice, I breathe easier and started feeling better. It a little louder than some but if you dont like the noise, turn down the speed to lower at night, I personally like some background noise and keep it on high.

The water last for a long time in these ones that use these wicks. There is only one downfall, mine is about a month old and the filter is getting pretty nasty already, although I admit my room is a dusty place and I''ve been using tap water. Apparently if you use those cheap 1 gallon Distilled waters the filter wont get all dirty or smelly as easily, as distilled water is pure, and tap water well....no matter what you think isn''t ;).

PRO: Humidifies room with few refills and doesn''t soak room.

CONS: The filter gets moldy/dirty pretty quick.

Hopefully this is usefull, I''m happy with it and I''m sure you''d be.

I have purchased and thrown away at least 3 other humidifier''s prior to this one. I really like this one. The maintenance is so much easier and so far no scaly build-up like I had with the others. I love that the basin tray can go in the dishwasher. I put the filter in the sun to dry out weekly. I am very pleased with this item and haven''t experienced any of the problems others have mentioned. Very happy!!

When I purchased this humidifier and set it up, I expected after a couple of hours to walk into my son''s room and be able to noticably tell that the humidifier was on. I couldn''t tell at all. The room felt just as it did a few hours earlier. With those old humidifiers that I grew up on, I was used to being able to see the humidified air coming out, and to have the room feeling almost muggy. I guess that''s what I expected.

At first, I was a little bothered that I couldn''t physically tell it was on and working. But, after running it for 3 days in a row now, my sons stuffy nose and cough have remarkably subsided, there''s no moisture buildup anywhere in the room, and my son is sleeping better.

So, although you don''t see or feel this humidifier working, it seems to have done really well in alleviating my sons cold symptoms. I am definitely becoming a fan of the evaporative technology this humidifier uses in controlling condensation build-up.

Bottom Line: If you buy this humidifier, be patient with it. Don''t assume it''s not working. You have to just watch for it to alleviate symptoms. You will NOT feel or see this thing working, but it has done wonders for my son.

Austin Air HealthMate Plus - HM450

Austin Air HealthMate Plus - HM450 BlackI''d never owned anything other than those cheesy ionizers in the past, and my wife suggested getting a quality HEPA filter to use in our basement, which we suspected had some mold floating around. It''s never been a very smelly basement, but never seemed quite like the rest of the house either. I installed this, and within an hour, running on high, the room smelled like NOTHING. Utterly astonishing doesn''t smell like the rug, like the sofa, like fabric softener, like mold, like oil. It smells of nothing. I''m going to get one for the bedroom. It is audible on high -like a room fan on medium maybe, and actually creates a bit of a breeze which is nice. It is also made in the U.S.A, another astounding characteristic, since you can''t seem to buy anything these days that isn''t made in China. Most highly recommended. I don''t know what Consumer Reports was thinking of -none of the really high quality air filters were in their recent survey.

We bought the AustinAirHealthmate+ because the our apartment felt small and closewhich with only two of us it shouldn''t (about 700sqft). We live in an old buildingand despite all our efforts to keep it clean the air still felt... old. Not a big deal at firstbut eventually it got to us and we decided to buy an air purifier. I did LOTS of research, and came to the conclusion that this was what we needed (best value, cost, reliability, warranty, odor control and filtering...maintenence costsall with a low power draw.)

When you turn it on you are supposed to leave it on the high setting for an hour we did thatand in 15 minutes the change in air quality was so drastic I am still amazed. I was washing dishes and suddenly our small apartment didn''t seem so small. 30 minutes latter I felt I was breathing better and clearer than I had since I moved to the cityan hour latter I could have sworn I was off in the country or on a mountain top. I had no idea purified air could be this good.

After one day my wife and I resolved to have one of these filters on for the rest of our lives. After two days we didn''t even mind how much we paid for it. And if you break down the cost of purchase and filter replacement over the five years it should come to about $15 dollars a monthwith regular maintenance these guys routinely last 15 years (supposedly)...

I am still amazed with how much better my wife and I feel breathing this airand we don''t have asthma or allergies. I am impressedand Austin has a new customer.

UPDATE Nov. 2012: I have been told by a rep. at Austin that the bad fan motors are no longer being made. I leave the review below so consumers can know that here may still be some old models being sold. Don''t keep it if makes a noise that bothers you. Ask for a newer model.

Original review:

Austin Air has made a good product, but reduces user satisfaction through poor product descriptions and downgraded fan motors.

Austin has multiple models with multiple names, but I discovered they all have the same 2 exterior cases with the same motors. There are 2 case/fan housing sizes, the full size and the junior. After several phone calls and much tedious reading on the web site, I have found out it''s the stuff inside (filters) that makes one unit different than another. With so many Austin Air product names like Pet Machine, Baby''s Breath, Allergy Machine, Bedroom Machine, HealthMate, HealthMate Plus, I would prefer a more straightforward comparison and clearer explanation of the different models (which means the inside filter options).

I bought both an Allergy Machine (HEGA) and an HealthMate Plus by Austin Air, and find they are a mixed success. Many brands (Sharper Image, Holms, Honeywell) have been even less useful to me. Finding a good air cleaner can cost a great deal of time and money. I advise willingness to try out and then return these products if they are not effective. I think the products available by many brands can be a great waste of money to suffering people in serious need of help. I suspect people''s satisfaction with Austin Air''s products will vary with the seriousness of their allergies/condition.

The space coverage (air cleaning area) stated is over optimistic for my needs. For useful results, it takes more than one unit for what is stated each unit will cover/clean. I''m using 2 in a rectangular, unobstructed, 650 sq. ft. area, with only a twin bed, no other furniture to block air circulation. I run 2 full size units, on high, 24/7. After trying many placements, I find the machines work best evenly spaced/at the center of a room. Moving them closer to walls (but still at least 8" from any wall, as per instructions), seriously decreases effectiveness.

Staff at Austin Air explained they purposely changed from a quieter motor to one known to be less-quiet*(*annoying, whining, IMHO). I thought the second unit I bought was broken, it sounded so different from one purchased just 2 weeks earlier. I will return the newer model. It sounds like a leaf blower running 3 blocks away, not super loud, but a constant droning, humming note. This endless tone can be heard across a 20'' room, on the lowest setting. On higher settings, it still has an ugly pitch, but the sound is somewhat covered by the sound of blowing air. Run this all the time (the only way it works), there is no break from the noise.

I almost desperately want these units for the air cleaning, but noise stress is factor, especially for those already stressed by chronic illness. I can bear it with headphones, but would/will probably have to buy electronic, noise-cancelling headphones to live with these over time. Austin Air staff told me the new, not-so-quiet motors are "more efficient in moving air", but this was not also for saving any electricity. Standing in front of the quieter one and the annoying, louder one, the air flow seems exactly as strong. They push air just as high and wide in the room. The new motor seriously degrades the product.

The Austin Air units have given noticeable (not complete) relief of symptoms, so far (less than 30 days). I have serious allergies and chemical sensitivity problems. In a room without these machines running, I must constantly medicate/endure chronic pain from allergy/chemical induced headaches. I have spent hundreds on air cleaners in the frustrating search for a machine that works. It would also be great if air cleaners would not wear out fast, not sound like aircraft engines, and not double (or worse) the electric bills. Many are ugly to look at, with little/no regard for aesthetics.

Summary; for reducing my need for medication, I''d give 4.5 stars. Austin Air also has the nicest looking unit I''ve found, including a logo sticker that can be easily removed (very nice). But, very low marks for unclear marketing (obtusely organized web site information), unpleasant customer service (staff member on phone seemed to resent helping, operator abruptly/rudely put me on hold for long periods without checking in, no email follow-up on email contact). I also find the overall value not equal to the high prices on these units. Most of all, for installing an "upgraded" motor that seriously downgrades the product, a big deduction of stars. Machines this expensive need to demonstrate significant value.

I searched for so long for an air purifier. I wanted to find one that works, not just one that sits there and does nothing. And I read many information and reviews and decided to get this air purifier. I have used it for a month and so far it seems that it relieved my allergy pretty well. It eliminates odor well when you turn it to the highest fan speed. And I like that the filters are encasted so in the future when i need to change out the filter, the dust is not going all over from the filter to the surrounding, so this design is very thoughtful. So far i like it though it''s pricey, I think it''s worth the money for the sake of better health and living condition. My husband said he thinks there is less dust deposit on surfaces too after we have this purifier on.

Want Austin Air HealthMate Plus - HM450 Discount?

I purchased the Austin Air Healthmate Plus (Black). The product arrived on-time. At first I noticed the screws on the bottom were loose, so I simply retightened them without any difficulty. I''ve been using it now for the past week and love it. I did notice a very slight chemical odor at first. However, within a day the odor was gone and my Austin Air Healthmate Plus has been providing my house with clean fresh air. I also had a question about air output and sent the maker a e-mail. I noticed the air output from the side vent blows upwards at a 45 degree angle, and wondered if this was normal. I received a response less then 12 hours later. I found them polite and helpful, and happily explained how my product works. So far I''m happy with my purchase, and will update this review if anything changes. So far I would recommend this product again. I''m also thinking about buying a second unit for my bedroom, but I''ll wait a few more months to make sure this unit works as I want it first.

Final word: Some complain about the sound on high setting. The product does create a lot of sound on high, but no more than a standard box fan on high. With the Austin Air Healthmate Plus on high in my living room (which is a large living room combined with a dining room) I can feel it creating a slight draft towards the unit. This makes me believe the product it working well as its cycling air for my entire room. I''ve very happy with it.

UPDATE 09/12/11: Its been about a month now and I''ve used the Austin Air nearly 24/7, and it is working great. I''ve noticed the slight chemical odor I first reported disappeared in about 4 days and hasn''t returned. Additionally, my living room where the unit is located is noticeably less dusty then before.

Keurig B145 OfficePRO Brewing System

Keurig B145 OfficePRO Brewing System with Bonus K-Cup Portion Trial PackI studied the Keurig machines and others for over 2 months before deciding on this one. My main fear on the Keurig was the unbelievable amount of bad reviews for the water pumps failing. Their home systems (especially the platinum) seem to be plagued with this issue, yet this unit and most of the other commercial units appear immune. The downside to going with the commercial unit is they are not compatible with the "My K-cup". Do not despair.. there is a solution!

My experience:

I purchased a B145 from the local Staples for $129.99!! I unwrapped my new beauty and filled it full of water per the instructions. My heart sank as the just out of the box unit would not prime. I figured I must be doing something wrong and called Keurig. They confirmed the unit was defective... right out of the box!! Not happy, but I thought I would give it one more go. I took it back to Staples, who happily exchanged the item. This time success. The unit works great and I have had no other issues in the month of ownership. Use of filtered or bottled water highly recommended to extend the unit service life. Unit has a 1 year warranty from Keurig so I am very happy with my purchase so far.

Those who complained about the noise surprised me a bit. It does hum and buzz a bit I admit... but it lasts what.. maybe 40 seconds while it fills with water. Really? .. seemed a bit silly to me.

Now, the big win here... I was willing to trade the inability to use the "My K-cup" for a reliable unit, but found the eKobrew reusable filter for Keurig here on Amazon. It works great with the B145 and I recommend it if you want to use your own blend of coffee.

For what it is worth... that''s my 2 cents.

I have wanted a Keurig for quite some time now for home use, but wasn''t really sure which model I wanted. After plenty of research, I settled on the Office Pro.

The major complaint I read about this model was that it wasn''t exactly quiet. Those reviews are correct, to an extent. I don''t think it''s so loud as to be any more distracting than any other noise in the home. It''s certainly a lot quieter than my vacuum and my washer. I can''t hear it in the next room, and neighbors haven''t complained about the noise in the surrounding apartments.

I have read review after review of the home brewers with the quiet technology, and I noticed that the one common complaint with those was that the pump failed after a couple months. I''d rather deal with a bit of noise than with a dead coffee maker.

We are avid coffee drinkers, and we always use travel mugs in the morning. There isn''t a setting for a 16 ounce cup, but we get around that by brewing two 6 ounce cups with a singular k-cup. It give us the perfect amount and intensity of coffee, and leaves enough room for cream and sugar.

I love that everyone can have exactly whatever kind or flavor of coffee that they want. No more having to drink chocolate peppermint coffee in the morning because I wasn''t the first one up and I don''t want to waste a whole pot. I also love that it''s always a fresh cup of coffee. No more burnt, old coffee. Just a nice fresh cup.

I find that there is a nice variety of K-cups as well, and if you shop around you can usually get them at a great price. My local Bed, Bath and Beyond carries them and you can use a 20% off coupon on them. Impact Office Pro also carries them online, for even cheaper than Keurig''s site with their coffee club discount.

Speaking of prices, I got my Office Pro for a lot cheaper. Staples has them for $129.99 and you can use a coupon. My account rep at Impact Office Pro went a little lower than the Staples price, and then even took my $25 Staples coupon, bringing the price down even more. So shop around and see where you can get the best deal!

A word of warning, the my k cup reusable filter offered by Keurig does not work with this model. However, the solofill refillable k-cup does work so if you want to use your own coffee, buy the solofill k cup.

All in all, I highly recommend this brewer. It''s a great addition to our home.

Buy Keurig B145 OfficePRO Brewing System Now

So after having returned not one, but two, of the Cuisinart Keurig brewers due to broken water pumps, I''ve settled on this commercial grade Keurig OfficePro B145 brewer for home use. I bought the unit from my local Staples for one hundred thirty-nine dollars, tax included. This model comes highly rated by both office and home users, and I couldn''t find a single review online complaining of the broken water pump problem that seems to plague many Keurig models. The Cuisinart Keurigs were great, but neither of them lasted beyond the four month mark, which is terrible considering they cost around two hundred dollars a piece. They each just gradually stopped brewing full cups of coffee, and it seemed as though the pump just stopped doing its job of pushing water through the machine. Anyhow, the OfficePro B145 model is bulletproof and every component feels solid to the touch. It does not hold as much water as the Cuisinart Keurig, but I''ll get over it. It is also considerably louder than the Cuisinart model as it doesn''t have the QuietBrew technology, but I think the QuietBrew technology may be the "Achilles heel" of the Cuisinart Keurigs and other Keurig models as the pumps simply don''t last. There are just too many reviews online for many Keurig models complaining of broken pumps. I''ll update this review if I experience any problems, but, for now, I''m loving this bad boy!

(sorry for the length of this....my first review but I thought my experience would help)

The B145 is a commercial-grade model and not intended for home use, as clearly repeated on Keurig''s website and on the packaging. My purchase, and my remedy below, were done at my discretion.

I researched Keurigs for several months before pulling the trigger. We have an original (older) B40 at our office that pumps out 20-25 cups per day and still runs like a champ after years of use. Since this is a consumer-grade unit, I was optimistic on the projected longevity. It has the older pump and yes, it makes a fair share of noise which would probably get old running early in the morning. I read tons of reviews on Amazon and was interested in the quieter B60 or B70 before reading all the stories about pump issues. After reading reviews and watching Youtube videos on the sound comparisons between old & new pumps, I decided to try the B145. I ordered it from a popular local office store (with online coupon code...check those out) for a great price. I knew it would be the noisier pump but wanted the reliability without having to fuss with the pump to keep it primed. When you want coffee in the morning, you really aren''t in the mood to plead with the machine, right? It arrived the next day and I set it up. I read a couple of reviews about the B145 not priming for the first time...unfortunately mine was one of those. I didn''t feel like hauling it back to the store and being inquisitive, I figured I couldn''t make it any worse by tinkering (my own choice, I''m not suggesting anyone do the same). Since this model has the drain feature, I managed to get it primed after about 15 minutes of tinkering by doing the following:

The unit tried to pull in water but there appeared to have been an air-lock in the line so I held the return nozzle closed while it tried to pull in water. *** Please note, this machine DOES make substantial noise when it is dry...this is normal with ANY pump that is run dry. After about 30 seconds of little-to-no water being pulled from the tank, I shut it off, set it for drain and initially held the return nozzle for a second or two while attempting to drain. It spit some air and a little water into the tank before running empty. I then reset for an initial prime and watching the water level in the tank, it pulled in a little more water this time. I had to repeat this sequence about 3-4 times and each time it pulled in more water (and drained when the valve was reversed). I knew the boiler was full as it was now pulling in the same amount of water during each drain & prime. I put an empty cup under the spout (no K-cup in the holder) and pressed Brew. Voila...a full cup of hot water! *** Please note, once the pump is primed, this machine makes MUCH less noise than when empty. In fact, it makes alot less noise than our older B40 at the office. One tip I found was to place a suitable-sized pot holder or rubber mouse pad underneath and the machine does not vibrate anything on the counter. I''ve operated both the older and newer models and was pleased to learn that once primed, this model only makes a low hum when running (comparable to the newer style pumps).

My opinion is the possible air-lock problem probably affects several models of Keurig brewers, thus the frustrations by owners. These small bladder-style pumps do not like air bubbles in the supply line, whether it''s during initial prime or after months/years of use. Clearing the air-lock seems to fix every one of the pump-plagued units that have been repaired from what I''ve reviewed. My feeling is that if Keurig can implement a fix to keep this condition from occuring on both consumer and commercial-grade models, they would have much happier customers. The partial-cup complaint can also be due to a clog in the K-cup needle(s), fixed with a straightened paper clip. Obviously, if you''re under warranty, you should consider that route before attempting repairs yourself.

I love this machine and have coupled it with an Ekobrew refillable so I can use any coffee variety. My machine heats up in the morning from cold in about 1 minute, so a timer is not needed. It has an auto-shutoff option, a descale indicator and three cup sizes to choose from so nothing else is needed. Even with my initial problem, I wouldn''t have made a different choice. I only gave 4 stars due to the out-of-the-box experience, but now this machine works perfectly!

I was first exposed to Keurig-made coffee at a luxury hotel and ran out (to Amazon) and bought a B70. I have since purchased about a dozen Keurigs for friends and family. Here is what has tempered my enthusiasm; they don''t hold up over time. I don''t expect things to last forever but most of the people that I have given the Keurig to only get about two years of use out of them before their pumps fail. I replaced my B70 with a Breville and it just recently passed away.

Before I let myself calculate just how much money that I have spent on an "easy" way to make a cup of coffee I purchased this unit. Overall I am very pleased with it. It doesn''t have all of the bells and whistles of my other K-cup coffee makers, but it''s got enough of the features that I need (however, I do miss the clock.). One thing that is really nice is that it has a drain feature, something missing from my other Keurigs. This allows one to drain the unit of the water that is deep inside the machine, preparing it for transport or storage.

The one real feature that caused me to buy this model over the others will take a while to prove itself, and that is DURABILITY. Being designed for office use the B145 is supposed to have a more durable pump. I have to admit that I am skeptical, but we will see and I will update this review periodically.

Update: 4/16/12 I have used this machine several times a day, every day, since I wrote this review and it is still performing fine. So far, so good.

Update: 1/16-13 This is the best K-cup machine that I have owned, not the fanciest, but the best. I like it so much that I upgraded my review from 4 stars to 5 and purchased another one for work. This is a very well made and dependable machine.

1T Bionaire Humidifier Water Treatment (32 oz.)

1T Bionaire Humidifier Water TreatmentAfter looking for a water treatment for my Humidor humidifier I found Bionaire Humidifier Water Treatment. What a difference!! I no longer have a white mist on the cigars packaging. I am very happy with the outcome since receiving and using this product. I highly recommend this product.

Up here in the Northeast, interior winter humidification significantly improves quality of life, however, many people don''t bother using one because it can be a lot of work filling and keeping the humidifier clean. We use a Bionaire that holds 6 gallons to humidify the entire house, which is not heated by forced hot air, but by steam convectors. Using this water treatment has effectively eliminated cleaning the humidifier for the entire season. Before finding this product, regular cleaning every few weeks was important to avoid a really nasty mess at the end of the season. I also use the bacteriostatic product by the same manufacturer, which works equally well.

I have used this item 1 full year, & has done as advertised. You use very little of the product in refilling the containers, using only approx. 1/6 of a bottle in a year. So, I have found it worth the money.

Shop-vac 90304 Cartridge Filter Save 24% Off

Shop-vac 90304 Cartridge FilterI like the old separate foam wet filter and paper cylinder for dry pickup, simply because cleanup of the foam filter was so easy and you could get all the gunk out of it. I have used my shop-vac to empty a small manmade water feature with a pond in the backyard. The seaweed groaties washed out of the old foam wet pick up filter completely.

With the new materials being used for filters on various equipment, the new multitask (wet/dry) filter is alot more durable but still harder to clean than the simple foam filter.

There is also the extra expense. This type filter costs more initially.

Oh well, the cost of progress, I guess.

All in All, I still think Shop-Vac makes the best shop / wet-dry / worksite vacuum on the market.

John Row

Like most homeowners I do a variety of jobs around the house that require various tools. My wet/dry vac is one of the most important tools to me (or more importantly my wife) as it helps me clean up all the messes I make when doing these jobs. This filter does a great job when it is new as it keeps all the dirt/sawdust/leaves/etc I pick up with it in the container. However, after using it sporadically over a few months the filter gets clogged with all these various things, especially if there is any moisture. When I try and clean it out it works ok but not great as it just continues to get clogged. Overall it does what it is supposed to I just don''t like replacing the filter every few months....

Finally replaced the original filter that came with my 5 gal Shop Vac with this dry/wet cartridge filter and wondered why I waited so long to do it. I used my Shop Vac to vacuum the fur my German Shepards left behind in the garage and it use to smell like a dirty dog everytime I turned it on. Now, with the new catridge filter, no more bad smell and my Shop Vac operates at optimum efficiency.

We buy this filter for our aging 16-gallon shop vac, and I credit its long life with always having this filter in place when we dry vac. I remove it when we do any wet vacuuming.

It works as protection for the motor, keeping dirt and debris out. The bag catches most of the dirt, but the filter is extra insurance.

At $14.50, it''s cheap insurance against burning up the motor on our shop vac.

At last, my Shop Vac is presentable enough to join the rest of our family and friends at holiday parties now that it has been fitted with this filter! I am not afraid to use my vac inside the house anymore, even if I just sucked up some debris from the garage floor.

Sears Kenmore 38476 Reverse Osmosis Replacement Filters

Sears Kenmore 38476 Reverse Osmosis Replacement FiltersI ordered these replacements after on a third trip to Sears they did not have this in stock and it seemed they were not likely to in the future.

The online Sears price was 5-6 dollars higher, and I was upset they did not stock it locally, I ordered these through my more familiar Amazon account.

I used these from Waterfilteronline.com for years after buying the more expensive replacements directly from Sears when we initially got the system. They are much less expensive, but something is different. Every time I replaced them (every 6 months like clockwork) there was a thick blackish/brownish "gel" on the first filter cartridge. It look like mold had formed and created a horrible looking jelly.

It had been so long since I had used the Sears cartidges, I hadn''t remembered that the OEM parts from Sears never had this problem. I have returned to buying these from Sears and have eliminated the ugly mold-jelly! I don''t know what is was, but it disturbed me. It is worth the extra money to me to no see it ever again.

We have been using these filters in our Kenmore reverse osmosis filter system for a couple years now. We have a bit of Virginia red dirt in our county water supply so our pre-filter comes out dark red every 6-9 months or so. However, our post-filter always looks brand-new at the change. Thus, I simply take the post-filter, move it to the pre-filter location, then put a new filter in the post-position. I use half the filters and the system functions perfectly. Particularly in the winter, when the tap water enters the house cold, the water is outstanding.

Bought my first one 10 years ago. I started to notice the difference after about 8 weeks. No more hardwater build up around the shower head and on the faucets. I just bought 2 more because the old ones were getting "weak?" after 10 years and the deposits were starting to return. I put one on the line in from the well and one on the line into the hot water heater. After four weeks no more deposits.

We live in a 1955 ranch style home with cast iron plumbing pipes. When we moved into the

house in 1986, there were a lot of rust stains on fixtures. We have off-the-scale VERY hard water in our little suburb so we battle it with multiple approaches. We have a traditional water softener and two P3s on the incoming water from the street. While our neighbors have had many plumbing issues, ours have NEVER been with incoming water. I wouldn''t be without it.

It did take time to work and once it did it did a great job and now it is back to not working at all again. I don''t know why nothing to our knowledge has changed. I would say save your money. Unless you can put it directly on the copper pipes in several areas causing problems it was just to large for us too. It did not fit ours. We have an older home and the copper pipes are smaller then this will fit on properly.

I should have added that it is located on one of our plastic pipes and on one copper pipe. However it should still gather the metals or limescale etc., that it is suppose to??

I attached this unit to my 3/4" copper pipe that is feeding my kitchen; it fit perfectly, but that''s where the perfection ended. For several weeks I tried to notice any difference in the water taste, but couldn''t. I also didn''t notice any decrease in water spots after washing the dishes. A month later, I purchased a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) meter to determine the effectiveness of this unit. My kitchen water (where this unit is attached) read 224 ppm. My bathroom water reading (No unit attached) was also 224 ppm. This confirmed that this water conditioner is just a gimmick and was a waste of time and money.

I eventually installed an RO system under the kitchen sink for drinking. FYI, The RO water reading is only 21 ppm and the water tastes great.

You know the saying "you get what you pay for". In this case, I got NOTHING for what I paid; the TDS reading didn''t even drop a few PPM

In addition, even overnight, the water does not filter through I''ve had to hold the tank up and make sure there''s no air bubbles caught in the filter.

I''ve been using this filter model for two years. I''m on my second unit. It works about the same as other inline filters I''ve used with regard to taste of the water. It seems not to last as long, but maybe my waster quality has changed, but it lasts long enough considering the price. I do like the quick connect fitting system. My filter is located in an awkward location, and not having to snug up compression fitting anymore to copper tubing is a big help.

I''ve read other reviews comment on black particles. You have to flush out the filter before you hook up the outlet end to your refrigerator. Just like any other filter. Maybe a gallon at most. Eureka Enviro Hard-Surface Floor Steamer Save 25% Off

Eureka Enviro Hard-Surface Floor Steamer,313AKnow going in If you get the Envirosteamer, know that, though it cleans the best, the first two times you use it the water goes through holes faster than it will in subsequent uses, so it will go through steam faster and your floors will be wetter than normal. Enough people wrote me to know this happened the first one or two times as it did my first time of use, then after that the mop was normal, our floors are great and it lasts waaaah longer. We don''t know why. Just know that going in. After the first two initializing uses it steams perfect! Also obviously the steam lasts longest if you don''t hold the mop above the floor to walk to another area since the steam pours out as it will with any steam mop if you do.

Also note: the reason some mops aren''t 212 degrees is the tank is on the handle rather than the base so the steam cools prior to it reaching the floor. It becomes steam at 212. But doesn''t stay there.

(update: This review was updated on 11-2-09 after I got to compare the Bissell as well as add notes about the Ladybugg steamer at the bottom, and then on 11-30 when I got to compare the SteamFast SF-140 and on 12-7 to compare the Steam Boy)

Envirosteamer (will be referred to as E): 25 feet *Note* The Envirosteamer has a clip at the top of the handle to keep the cord out of the way. When it''s plugged in and you need more cord length, a light tug undoes this cord on the clip so that you have the full 25'' of cord. Otherwise it''s only around 20 feet. It''s made to do this.

9 lbs but that includes the water filter you have to get with this one (see notes below)

WATER CAPACITY: Very important because having to stop and add more water just adds on to the time you have to spend cleaning, especially if you are cleaning a hallway or livingroom or some other area that has no sink:

S: only holds up to 10 oz of water. Lasted for 10 miinutes of cleaning

E: holds up to 20 oz. of water. Lasted for over 20 minutes of cleaning (we stopped at 20 and it was still going)

H: holds up to 11.83 oz of water. Lasted for 13 minutes of cleaning

M: holds up to 17 oz. of water. Lasted for 15 minutes of cleaning

B: holds up to 13 oz of water, lasted for 12.5 minutes of cleaning AND you have to undo and remove the tank from the machine every time you fill it up then hook it back on and the steam tank is on the handle rather than the base so the steam doesn''t flow directly out after heating up which may explain why it''s not as hot once it leaves the machine.

Only holds 8 oz of water and if you use 8 oz it gets your floor too wet so we wound up filling it with just up to 7.5 oz of water for best results and it only lasted 7 minutes when we did that before we had to refill again.

SB: up to 24 oz BUT it only lasted for 12 minutes of cleaning.

The shark only had one hole that the steam came out of so it wasn''t cleaning things on the edges, just in one spot. All the others had steam coming from bottom and sides. Steamboy also didn''t have holes near the edge

Another update: Since this review, we tried out canister mops. They work great for tight areas, but not on floor cleaning because the steam has to travel from the canister, down a long tube, then out the base so the steam is even cooler than the shark by the time it reaches the floor, even on the most expensive models. However, if you are looking at something just to steam tight areas like grout, and don''t need it for your floor, the Vapamore performed the best out of the canister mops we played with when using the short cords for cleaning so the steam left the tank hot.

Also we noticed that a reviewer above us on the page flattered us by adding all of our information you read in our review about cord length, all the mops, steam temperatures we measured etc into her older review that is first on the page that originally contained none of this information. However, now that she edited her review to include our 6 hrs of research we apologize that it makes reading these two reviews very redundant. We promise when we first posted this review that no other review on this page contained any of the information on temperatures etc in our review until we posted our findings and they were copied into an older review higher on the page via editing. It''s pretty boring now for the reader to read the same thing twice. But we are flattered someone felt it good enough research to want to copy into their review so we hold no grudge...I just didn''t want anyone to think we were being redundant. :-) )

WHY YOU WANT THE TANK ON THE BOTTOM/MOP HEAD: All steam starts out at 212 degrees. Some mops increase the heat from there. Some mops heat the water up, then it has to travel down tubes and get to the base, and then leave the holes, which results in a cooling process. This can also result in calcium deposits along that piping which eventually clogs the waterflow or makes you buy and store filtered water to use in the mop. On mops like the Envirosteamer, the water is heated in a stainless steel tank at the base of the mop and flows directly out onto the floor instantly with no traveling through the mop so it leaves the mop steaming hot. Put your hand over a cup of coffee directly at the top of the coffee. That''s hot steam. Now move your hand waaaay up above the coffee cup where there is still steam but it is further from the heat source due to traveling. It''s cooler steam. The mops are no different. Plus putting the weight at the head of the mop puts the preasure on the pad, not the handle you have to push.

CLOTHS: I like 100 percent cotton better than microfiber. Microfiber streaks. Although some complain about the Envirosteamer''s pads shrinking they are meant to. I wash em in hot water. They''ll fit perfect after they shrink so don''t even be concerned. (they are cotton and quite absorbant.)

Very happy to see the Enviro Steamer return !!! I have had the 311A enviro steamer for 2 years. I had to pay an arm & a leg for it on ebay because Eureka discontinued this product several years ago. Mopping was my least favorite chore, it almost brought me to tears I hated it so much. I have over 1200 sq.ft. of tile in my house & keeping it clean used to be a daunting task. UNTIL........the enviro steamer.

One of the best purchases I have ever made. No more bucket & mop, no more over perfumed wet jet that leaves you with a sticky floor & expensive replacement pads & fluids. Now it is just water, the enviro steamer, a washable & reusable magic pad & me. I actually consider cleaning my floors FUN now. By the way.....men love using the enviro steamer, you may even find your husband cleaning the floors more often.

Hint: Get a few extra Magic pads, 1 or 2 is not enough unless you have only 1 small area to clean. After I finish with 1 room, I just slap a new pad on, refill the water, give the enviro steamer a few minutes to heat back up & I''m on to the next room. The first room is dry in minutes & clean.

Length:: 2:59 Mins

I cook often and my kitchen floor seems to collect it''s own share of whatever I''m making. I always mop but conventional mops and buckets just never made much sense to me as the water and detergent gets dirty in no time and then you have to keep using it or change the water every 5 minutes. However, I had never heard of a steam mop until I read a review from Amazon''s #1 Reviewer who had gone to the trouble of testing over a half a dozen different brands. I took her recommendation (thanks Alana!) and added the Eureka to my Amazon wish list. Luckily for me, my downstairs neighbor (and friend) bought it for me for Christmas.

I decided to do a video review because I thought that it would be helpful for other folks to see what it looks like and how it works. A couple of things that I forgot to mention:

* My mop came with two cleaning pads

* The instructions warn that if you machine wash and dry the pads they might shrink a little (they were right)

* If you have very hard water you might want to use distilled water (which I do)

* You should not use any cleaner or detergent inside of the steamer

* Next to the green power light is a red light that warns you when the water tanks needs refilling

I thought that my video review was going pretty well until the steamer scared my neighbor''s toy Yorkie (she had brought the dog along with her) and the puppy started to bark at it. Oh well... I hope that it is helpful to you anyway.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I want to mention that the first time that I used the Enviro Steamer it didn''t work correctly. The water came out quickly (it was empty in 5 minutes) and wasn''t very hot. It got my floors really wet and not very clean. I refilled it, let it warm up longer than before (8 minutes) and the steam just poured out. I was able to get my floor really clean and the water lasted for about 20 minutes. I have now heard from several people that had the same experience so I thought that I would add this note. If you are having this problem you might want to give your unit a couple of tries before sending it back.

Read Best Reviews of Eureka Enviro Hard-Surface Floor Steamer Here

I spent days and days reading reviews for the perfect steam mop and I felt that the Eureka Enviro Steamer was the best choice. I''ll sum up what I LOVE about my Eureka Enviro Steam Mop.

Eureka Euro Features:

1. Swivel head (a must, can get around objects)

2. tall and removable handle (yes you can take the handle off and steam your counters to sterilize them)

3. Eureka has been making steam mops for over a decade and this is the 2nd version of their VERY POPULAR steam mop.

4. Long cord.

5.Weight is on the floor where the water tank is, this makes it easier to use and makes for less scrubbing (tanks on the handle make you scrub and push down more to remove grim)

6. NO PUSH TRIGGER! This means CONSTANT steam. Who wants to hold down a button the whole time you''re mopping?

7. The steam vents are from SIDE to SIDE..not one hole in the middle like some.

8. THICK and tough waffle cone pads. Picks up plenty.

9. HIGH heat (220 degrees)

10. About 3 minutes to heat water.

11. Leaves very little water on floor, dries quickly.

12. TOTALLY GREEN! Okay, I''m not a green fanatic (I don''t recycle, sorry guys) but this product makes me feel like I''m making a difference! No wasteful trash (i.e. disposable pads) and it uses JUSTS water. No chemicals!

OKAY NOW SOME THINGS YOU SHOULD HEAR OTHERS HAVE SAID ABOUT OTHER MOST POPULAR MODELS:

MONSTER STEAM MOP:

1. BAD HANDLE (complaint after complaint about flimsy handle and it breaks when pushing too hard).

2. takes 5+ min to heat up.

3. does not have a swivel head.

(compared to Eureka: does heat up more266 degrees and does have extra burst of steam in front, more expensive)

SHARK STEAM MOP:

1. very flimsy handle and plastic tank (both break easily)

2. you have to "pump'' the handle to get steam.

3. hard to push because the weight of the water is half way up the handle on the tank)

4. tends to "sleep" in the middle of the job as it takes a break to re-heat the water for the next pumping action.

5. heats to about 110 degrees.

BISSELL STEAM MOP:

1. Again, top/plastic water tank-very flimsy.

2. leaves very wet floors.

3. uses a "trigger" again to get steam.

4. thin pads, get soaked easily.

5. not hot enough (110 degrees)heats pad, but not more than hot water from your sink.

6. One steam hole in the middle, not all the way across like Monster or Euro or HAAN.

HAAN STEAM MOP:

1. cost more money

2. handle breaks again and not tall enough

3. does have attachments and removable handle

4. water has leaked from tank and burns hands when lifting up to steam object (like counters, beds, etc).

H20 steam mop:

1. 130 degrees temp

2. tends to leak from the tank and the tank is flimsy.

OKAY THESE ARE THE IMPORTANT THINS TO CONSIDER FOR ALL STEAM MOPS.

1. They aren''t going to clean your grout. If you steam it and then get in there with a brush or rag I''m sure it will come up, but ALL fiber pads don''t have "fingers" deep enought to get in the grout (neither will any product likely except a good ole fashioned brush) But they will be sterilized!

2. You need to take in consideration what type of water you have. All hard water will clog up your steamer over time. Use soft/distilled water (we installed a water softener in our house because we had VERY hard water)You could clean it with a de-calcification product (like CLR) or vinager occasionally.

3. You should NOT use a steam mop on unsealed wood or waxed floors. We are talking HIGH HEAT here and you''re going to ruin wood if it isn''t sealed, or melt that wax and make a mess.

4. Water should be at least 155 up to 212 degrees to kill germs (depending on the type of bateria). Steam is nice, but not if it isn''t hot enough to kill bateria.

5. These are not ALL IN ONE floor cleaners. You are STILL going to have to vacuum. Heck-do what I did-invest in a Iroomba robot vacuum (HSN has Flex Pays) AND a steam mop. You''ll have floors you can eat off of every day for very little effort.

6. My opinion is that ANYTHING that is rechargeable ins''t going to last as long as something with a cord. Batteries have weird electronic memory to them (yeah I''m obviously not a tech pro) and they are luckly to last 6m! Don''t waste ANY money on those rechareable products. They are a waste.

All in all this is the BEST product I''ve found for the cost, unless you want to invest a fortune in commercial grade steamers. I''m THRILLED with this purchase!!!

Update: After 10 months, I''m still thrilled. However, many complain that the first couple of uses the mop tends to leak a lot and leave the floors very wet. Although I never did experience this, many have and the solution they have found is that it requires a couple of uses to "season" the product and then the appropriate amount of steam and heat becomes reliable.

Want Eureka Enviro Hard-Surface Floor Steamer Discount?

Okay, first my disclaimer. I''m not paid or influenced by anyone to write this. Second, I''m a 5''11", 220lb. single 45 year old guy and yes, I love to clean house! Third, I''m no expert as this is my foray into steam mops. Fourth, you''ll see that this review of the Eureka Enviro Steamer is done in comparison with another steam mop I have. Anyway, I''m definitely sold on the idea of cleaning my floors without chemicals, dipping into a sink or bucket and wringing mop heads, etc.

I did a LOT of research on the different steam mops out there and decided to try a couple that interested me the most. First, I bought the Euro-Pro Shark Pocket Steam Mop (the new one, model S3501, that costs around $100) and have been rather impressed with it. I still have it.

I decided to try the Eureka Enviro Steamer because 1) of the rave reviews and high ratings it''s gotten, 2) the higher steam temperature, 3) the constant flow of steam as opposed to manually triggered steam and 4) the price.

For $65.99 I got the steamer, two big, thick reusable cleaning pads, a styrofoam composite resting tray, a little fill cup and a little funnel. Okay, simple enough. Good price. The Shark, even though a bit more expensive, came with TWO differently shaped/sized steam heads, two pads for each head and special "dusting" pad for the larger head plus a "carpet cleaning tray" for steaming the carpet (useless, really).

Here are my observations:

1) Right off the bat, I noticed the handle on the Eureka to be nothing more than a straight pole with a hard plastic grip that really didn''t make for good ergonomic handling, particularly considering the wrist angle while holding it. Part of the problem is that, when fully extended, it isn''t all that long, so you can''t really hold it like a regular mop unless you''re short. The Shark''s grip is circular, making it more comfortable to hold, even with one hand, while pushing and pulling. One nice thing about the Eureka is its handle stays locked in place when not in use. The Shark''s handle, due to the true pivoting steam head, will fall down to the floor if not leaned up against something.

2) The cord on the Shark is definitely longer than the Eureka''s. Not a big issue to me as I have a modest sized kitchen/dining area and one bathroom with linoleum to clean. However, I know cord length is an issue with other folks. The cord wrap hooks are fine on each mop and their cords stow away without any issues.

3a) The Eureka''s cleaning pads are cotton, rather thick and have a bit of a waffle design to them. Certainly good for absorbing stuff. The Shark''s cleaning pads are of a mixed microfiber material and there''s nothing special about their design. I think the choice of materials is a personal one. Some say the microfiber cleans better while some say the cotton lasts longer. I''ve found that replacement pads for the Shark are much cheaper. They do last a while if you wash them without bleach and let them dry on their own.

3b) The Eureka''s cleaning pads stay in place by a couple of grip clips, one on each side of the steamer. They seem to hold the pad securely mostly at its ends. However, I noticed how the leading (front) and trailing (back) edges of the cleaning pad seemed to sag and curl a bit away from the steam head. As a result, the cleaning pad tends to shift back and forth. I also found putting on the Eureka''s cleaning pad EVENLY (so each grip clip had plenty of pad to bite) and taking it off, involving those grip clips, took a bit of time and effort. This is compounded by the fact that the Eureka''s steam head is big and heavy so I had to put it up on the counter or kneel to the floor for the job of putting on/taking off the pad. I snapped my fingers in the grip clips (they have teeth!) a couple of times. Conversely, the Shark''s steam heads are very light plus they''re very easy to take off and put on. So are its cleaning pads. They slip on and fit neatly like a glove (but not too snugly, so there''s some room for shrinkage). There''s no sagging, they close up with Velcro at the openings and they stay on the steam head without shifting around much.

4) An interesting feature of the Shark which makes it better than the Eureka is the fact that you can simply FLIP the steam head over while using the mop to use the other side of the cleaning pad on-the-fly. To use the other side of the Eureka''s cleaning pad, you have to unplug the unit, wait for it to cool down a bit, set it on its resting tray, pull the ends of the thick, WET and dirty cleaning pad out of the grip clips, pick up the steam head, pull out the wet and dirty cleaning pad, flip the thing over, pick up the steam head again and put the cleaning pad under it, set down the steam head-centering it so you have plenty of pad on each end for the grip clips to graband re-insert the ends of the pad into the grip clips and then turn the unit back on. Whew. At first, when I saw the photos of the cleaning pad attached to the mop, I thought "that looks easy, even if there are a few steps." Wrong. I really found it to be a bulky, time consuming chore.

5) In order to fill the Eureka''s water reservoir, I HAD to use the little funnel and cup because the filler opening was so small. I do agree that it''s a good thing the water reservoir and steam unit are at the base of the cleaner for maximum steam heat, which is somewhat of an advantage over the Shark. The Shark, however, is easier to fill. With or without the steam head attached, you can just put its tank filler hole, which is larger, right under a faucet and fill the reservoir that way. Or just get a measuring cup and pour water directly into the filler hole without the need for a funnel. Apparently, the Shark''s water reservoir is bigger. The Eureka has a dummy light that comes on when the reservoir is out of water. On the Shark, you can SEE how much water is in it. Either way works for me, although the "empty" light does get attention easily.

6) The one thing I do like about the Eureka is that it has an on/off switch. There is none on the Shark therefore you have to plug in/remove the power cord at the AC socket for that function. For some people that may be an inconvenience, so the on/off switch is an advantage. Anyway, I noticed that it takes quite a while for steam to build up in the Eureka. With the Shark, it''s rather quick...like 30 seconds to a minute. However, it''s also noisier but that''s not an issue for me. It''s actually kind of nice to know the Shark is actually giving me an audible signal that it''s working and heating up. Once it''s done heating the water/steamer, it quiets down a bit.

7) The Eureka constantly steams, which is kind of nice. That means one doesn''t need to pump the handle or press a trigger to get steam. Some people may really like this. The Shark steams whenever the handle goes downward/inward as you push the mop forward, causing a single pump action the handle to trigger the steam. Not a bad concept, really, but generally effective only if you''re going forward with the mop. You can also build up steam on-demand by pumping the handle a few times for tougher spots. The Eureka''s constant steam makes it good for going backward while mopping. HOWEVER...one BIG drawback I noticed is, since the steam is constantly coming out, I can''t just park it somewhere for any period of time. I have to put it on its resting tray so that over-steaming or water build-up happens there and not on the floor. This doesn''t happen with the Shark because it only steams when you push it along. So you can set it anywhere and walk away for a moment. For this reason, the Shark doesn''t require a resting tray.

8) I read that some people were dissatisfied with the fact that the Eureka''s steam head was too big to fit under counters and toe kick spaces. I found this to be true. As for edging and corners, it sucks. The Shark beats it hands-down in this department. Additionally, I found it easier to manipulate under chairs, table, etc. due to the steam head''s low profile, light weight and pivot flexibility. Yes, the Eureka has some pivot flexibility, but with the Shark-I kid you not-you can literally flick your wrist with ease to the left or the right and the steam head will literally make a nice sharp turn in that direction. How cool is that?

9) Weight-wise, the Eureka is certainly heavier to push around. I did struggle with it a few times while pushing and pulling it back and forth. The Shark is lighter and easier to manipulate.

My first use of the Eureka was not impressive. It took a long time to start steaming. Then I saw that when picked up the mop from its resting pad/tray, there was a lot of water standing in the resting tray. I proceeded to mop away. I noticed immediately that the mop was leaving a LOT of standing water on the floor. I mean, it looked a bit like my dishwasher had peed rinse water all over the place. Puzzled, I brought the steam head close to me and tipped it to one side to check the cleaning pad itself. Right then, a bunch of water poured out of the steam head and onto the floor. I confirmed the filler hole cap was on properly. Thinking perhaps that I hadn''t let the mop get hot enough, I returned it to its resting tray and let it sit there for a while longer as I got a towel to sop up all the standing water. Then I tried the mop again. Same result...a lot of standing water on the floor. I also noticed that the steam wasn''t really all that hot, either. In fact, I found the steam on my Shark to be hotter.

I then remembered reading several comments in user reviews regarding similar issues during other people''s first-time use of the Eureka. Apparently, it performs this way for the first 1-3 times before it actually starts working as advertised. A bit of a "break-in" period, of sorts. Okay, I suppose I can buy into that. But, really? Is that a bug or a feature? I mean, my Shark worked fine right out of the box and has worked the same way consistently since. So, I gave the Eureka another shot. And a third. And a fourth. Same results. Lots of standing water on my floor, steam not very hot and the cleaning pad got soppy and loose. Of course, with all that water, the floor took forever to dry.

Okay, so I''m thinking it''s the PADS that are causing the issue. So, taking a suggestion from one reviewer, I used an older kitchen towel instead. This time I got warmer steam BUT the towel, because it was only secured to the steam head by its ends, just flopped around at the middle. I tried different towels. Same result. And I mean I really made sure I put them on as snugly as possible. Again, fastening the cleaning pads and towels evenly at each end (so there''s plenty for the grip clips to grab) was not easy. I washed the one cleaning pad I used and set it out to dry. Some folks had written that the cleaning pads work better after they''ve been washed at least once, so I figured this could be the solution. When I started to put it onto the mop, I noticed right away that it had shrunk considerably (I cold wash everything and I hang a lot of stuff to prevent shrinking) and was a little more difficult to evenly mount onto the steam head. Again, same result: lots of standing water on the floor. Maybe not as much as the first uses before it was washed. But still too much water on the floor. Really. It was like I''d used a regular mop. When I use my Shark, I can see the floor is shiny because it''s wet but when I run my fingers along the floor they''re NOT wading through a lot of standing water AND the floor dries quickly. I mean within just a few minutes.

I also tried it out as a hand-held unit for the counter tops and shower walls to see if it will give me that as a cleaning feature. Yes, the overall unit without the handle is smaller than the Shark without its handle, but the steam head is so big, heavy and ungainly that it felt like I was hoisting a curling stone and moving it along the counter tops and up along the shower walls. I didn''t bother doing the steam part because I didn''t want all that water all over my counter tops. I did the same experiment with my Shark and found that, while it was bigger (mostly in terms of length, thereby a two-handed hold), it was lighter and easier to manipulate along the flat surfaces horizontally and vertically. Plus-again-I could just flip the mop over on the spot and use the other side of the cleaning pad (while I still had to stop with the Eureka, pull off the pad, flip it over and fasten it back on, etc. as described above). And the Shark''s smaller triangle-shaped steam head I can snap on is great for the corners.

I REALLY wanted the Eureka to work out because of all the great reviews I''d read regarding it here at Amazon and other web sites where reviews were done. So, I set it out to completely dry, washed the other pad FIRST before using it, let it dry on its own, followed all the instructions and the recommendations of other reviewers and so forth to get the best results. Nope. While it DID seem to perform better in terms of steam heat, it STILL had the sopping pad sagging along the front and back of the steam head and STILL left too much water all over my floor, which in turn took too long to dry. But even if THAT problem was solved, I just didn''t like the fact that I couldn''t efficiently and easily use the other side of the cleaning pad.

So, I sent the Eureka back and got a refund. It has a few features I like, but overall it''s not well executed. I came away from that product thinking "HOW in the world did it get all these great rave reviews??" Even if I''d gotten a dud, I found that, operationally, several features were too cumbersome for my liking, which I''d mentioned earlier.

I''m happy with my Shark S3501 Pocket Steam Mop (they call it "Pocket" because the cleaning pads are, really, like pockets you put the steam heads into). I recommend you give it a try. Do NOT get the cheaper, smaller, earlier model of the Shark steam mop. Friends I know who have used it say it''s not so good and that''s accurately reflected in its reviews here at Amazon.com. Apparently, Euro-Pro listened to users and made some significant improvements in their product as evidenced in this new model. However, I am also aware of the issues people have had with the DURABILITY of Shark products (both my mother and sister have had Shark cleaning devices and they broke rather quickly), so I''m going to keep an eye on this new model and see how it goes. But I can tell you right now, I honestly find it easier, more flexible and simpler to use than the Eureka Enviro Steamer, even if its steam doesn''t get nearly as hot. But it gets hot enough to clean my floor nicely and I think it does a good job.

If you''ve gotten this far in my review, I want to thank you for taking the time to read it. I hope it helps you.
