Lime-A-Way - Toilet Bowl Cleaner

Lime-A-Way - Toilet Bowl Cleaner - Liquid 24 Ounce.(Pack of 12)I live in an area with hard water. We installed a water softener to combat most of the problem.

I''ve tried CLR in the past without much success.

I ordered this after reading all the glowing reviews here, thinking it was the fact I''d used regular CLR and not this ''professional'' product.

I don''t get it, it just does not work! We bought 12 bottles. I''ve used 4 per 3 toilets over the past week! The white (not sure is lime or calcium) deposits are still there. I ended up scrubbing them off with a pumice stone. The deposits were not that thick.

It may work for rust and either lime or calcium, but it does;t seem to work for all hard water. It did not so much as make a dent in our rings.

I''m uploading pictures of what they toilets look like after 4 bottles over 1 week following the manufacturers instructions to the letter. This is how they looked 1 week ago!

This stuff puts every other toilet bowl cleaner I''ve tried to shame.

I had hard water build up that wouldn''t come off with a wire brush. It took exactly 20 minutes to go from OMG!!! grungy to shiney bright .. I left it on longer than the directions called for, just in case.

The twisted spout makes the bottle easy and safe to use. No muss, no fuss. Put it on. Go watch TV. Come back. Flush. That''s it folks.

It''s just the best. It takes my toilet from disgusting to sparkling in minutes (and most of that time is spent letting it sit and do its magic). I can''t get this anywhere but here, so I''m happy to buy a case of it at a time. I really can''t recommend this stuff enough. It also smells really pleasant, kind of spearminty? Love this stuff as much as a person can love a toilet bowl cleaner.

I like this product so much that I resorted to buying it from the internet when I wasn''t able to find it around where I live (easily anyway). Great deal 12 for about $30. Way cheaper than buying one at a time.

OmniFilter R200-S6-S06 Refrigerator Filter Save 16% Off

OmniFilter R200-S6-S06 Refrigerator Filter
  • Refrigerator filter. Reduces sediment, rust particles and chlorine taste and odor
  • Healthier, tastier ice cubes and water at your fingertips. Activated carbon cartridge
  • Easy to install, quick connect fittings
  • For 1/4-Inch plastic or copper push-in fittings

I have replaced my filter every 6 months or so that feeds the ice maker and water dispenser in my house. This new filter works just as well as the others, however, it is about 1/4" shorter than the others. If you don''t have any slack in the copper pipe this could cause an issue. Changing the size withour changing the part number seems wrong, even though the difference is slight.

As for the water filtering, that seems to be working as well as ever.

Kenmore Single Undersink Drinking Water System

Kenmore Single Undersink Drinking Water SystemThis filter was rated highly by Comsumers Reports some years ago, and it''s very effective. It does everything advertised: removes odors and improves taste. However, the faucet is cheap: it''s plastic and feels flimsy. Replace that with a metal one and you''re in business. The filter also allows easy access if you keep the water lines long! Then the filter just lifts up from the attacment screws and you can then have plenty of room to remove the case and replace the filter. More info: The product is made by Ecodyne, and the filter replacement part # has been chnged from SEARS PART NUMBER: 42-34373 to Substitution: 3437327.

the only thing I fixed on it was the pick-up tube. it tends to fall out into the bottle after a while, so I glued it into the pump. problem solved, again by me.

We must purchase our drinking water. This pump makes getting water easy. I have used several different pumps and this is by far a superior pump.

This hand pump was the perfect solution and I am very happy to have it. It installs easily and comes with easy to read instructions as well as a brush to clean out the extension tubes that go down into the bottle. What a deal!

Siroflex Showerhead From Italy

Siroflex Showerhead From Italy
  • The Greatest water flow shower head that will put out a lot of water for its small size and saves water too! We cannot over praise this little power house.
  • Guaranteed to be the BEST SOLUTION for your shower. With a rotation of 360 degrees and a stainless steel filter that will guarantee that the water exit orifices will never be obstructed.
  • A very simple solution for the best shower you can get.
  • Builds up pressure in the head and forces it out of 88 jets!
  • Made from LEXAN, the same material that FOOTBALL Helmets and safety glass are made from.

I am what you would call somewhat of a shower head aficionado as over the years I have tried many different shower heads and while some were OK, there were only a handful which I would rate as "must-haves". I, to this day, have several in my collection that I will just not part with.

Imagine my surprise this past Summer while vacationing in Old Orchard Beach Maine to happen across one of the greatest showers I have had the pleasure to take.

Now, if any of you know OOB, it''s a small beach Town in Maine and while there are several nice motels popping up over recent years, most haven''t had a facelift/update for several decades and this includes the showers as well.

After a full day in the hot sun & saltwater taking a nice shower is not usually on the agenda as most hotels have the water saving shower heads and combined with the lack of pressure makes for a horrible shower...can you say pins & needles?!

There were several times over the years where I would skip said shower as my sunburn was really bad and I would rather smell a little "ripe" then subject myself to the torture chamber of a hotel shower. Besides, I was on vacation and could always blame the scent on the Ocean "Can you guys smell that horrible seaweed smell?" :)

But, stepping into the shower this time was a unusually pleasant experience. Full, robust water cascading out the shower head unlike anything I have experienced, including my own Home. All of this from a cheap looking plastic shower head.

I got out of the shower and the first thing I said to my Wife was "this shower head is coming Home with me!" Yeah, it''s that good.

But with my Children hearing every word out of Dad''s mouth and not wanting to be known as a thief (unlike the Hotel...$175.00 a night for 75 yards from the Beach is highway robbery), I unscrewed the shower head to look for any type of markings and came across Siroflex as well as made in Italy.

After a quick online search I found the shower head on several sites and ordered one right there from the ''bay, $8.79 shipped. I had spent more for a beer and burger that afternoon. Great deal indeed.

To the shower head...

It comes shipped in a plastic bag from the manufacture and while it is shown it in the blue and white packaging (only slightly less gaudy),several I have ordered from three different vendors for friends and family were of the plastic bag variety.

It is very unassuming, it has the looks that would appeal to the Kmart/Walmart crowd but don''t let looks fool ya''.

As mentioned earlier it is plastic not brass or chrome and does indeed look on the cheap side but notwithstanding this it gives a great shower with full, even flow and great force. Not too wide and not too narrow. I do not like any of the rainfall shower heads or the massaging crisscross pattern heads I have tried.

Give me a good ole'' fashioned drenching shower any day.

The downside (there''s always a downside huh?) is the water usage...like the past reviewers buckspeed & kirk have stated the water usage is high, like almost five gallons-a-minute on my measured 80 psi shower. So in this way the "Get the best shower while saving water" quote is a little misleading.

But if you think of it this way, you will get cleaner quicker and be out of the shower sooner than with a typical water saving shower head than that quote is indeed true.

I recently ordered from a vendor that sends a washer with the head to limit water usage some and this cuts the flow to about three gallons-a-minute. I would say set up this way it gives about 75% of the shower of a washer-less Siroflex but there is some "pulsating" issues that I am not found of. I am still experimenting with this combo and might drill out the washer a bit to see if I can get the best of both worlds. But if not I will not feel too bad about the high water usage as my Home is loaded with water saving devices from the toilets to the faucets to the dishwasher and besides, my neighbor wastes more water on his lawn with his automatic sprinkler system even on rainy days then I waste in a 15 minute shower.

If you want to look into this vendor think "neat".

In closing I will say this..forget the looks of it, close your eyes and enjoy a great refreshing shower for under $10 bucks. I know I am.

I have long hair which is very thick. This is the only showerhead I''ve found that does a nice job of rinsing shampoo out of my hair. A siroflex showerhead is in both of my bathrooms. Whenever we have guests, they rave about the great shower! And the funny thing is -it''s the cheapest showerhead on the market. Whenever I travel, I carry one in my suitcase. Hotel showers are notorious for poor water pressure. Now, I can have a nice shower -no matter where I am.

First of all, I am not someone who writes many reviews. Like many of us here at Amazon, we only take the time to review products when they are either exceptionally good or incredibly bad. Over the last 30 years I have owned many showerheads from all the major brands. But having low hot water pressure, most did not live up to expectations. Having read the reviews I decided to spend the $10 and give the little (yes surprisingly small) Siroflex a try. Boy am I glad I did. Truly the BEST showerhead at ANY price. It doesn''t look like much. It looks like cheap plastic. And it is sold in a plastic bag. But don''t let the appearance turn you away. It is very well designed. No tools or pipe tape needed. Just screw it on and enjoy. Hand tight with no tape, and it does not leak at the connection. Not a drop. And it is so effective, that I actually have to turn DOWN the hot water because it was just too intense. I''ve already ordered more as gifts. Leave it to the Italians. They make some of the worlds finest sports cars, so it makes sense that they could make the best showerheads. Try it. You''ll love it.

Want Siroflex Showerhead From Italy Discount?

This shower head feels great to use. However, I ran out of hot water the first time I used it, so I decided to measure it''s flow. Multiple measurements came out to 5 gallons per minute. This is a lot of water. For comparison, most current Delta shower heads you would find at local stores are between 2 and 3 gallons per minute. I''ve rated this 1 star because of the misleading title of the item. You are most definitely NOT saving water with this shower head.

For anyone who remembers what it was like to take a shower pre-1992, then this shower head is for you. In 1992 the government decided that you can''t have a shower head that puts out more than 2.5 gallon per minute. Fortunately for those of us who enjoy a strong shower, the Italian government has no such restrictions. The strong water flow feels absolutely tremendous! I highly recommend this product with no reservations at all.

Disclaimer: After using this shower head for 2 months, I have seen approximately a 25% increase in my water bill (~$45 to ~$55). The other thing to be cognizant of is your hot water usage. If you have a smaller hot water tank, the increase flow can quickly deplete your tank, leaving you in a cold shower.

Bodum Assam Medium Tea Press with Plastic Filter

Bodum Assam Medium Tea Press with Plastic Filter, Black, 1.0 l, 34 oz.I bought this with the bodum tea warmer (the electic one they sell here) and use it every morning at work. It is WONDERFUL, as I can brew up tea or just have hot water on hand for teabags or my chai tea mixes. There''s a hot water tap at work from the coffee maker, so it''s simple to fill up. If I had this at home, I''d get a 4-cup pyrex cup so I could microwave that much water at once.

CLEANING:

You use a scrub brush every few days if needed. One of those yellow sponges with green scrubbies on them. The infuster does NOT hold on to flavor unless you are simply not washing it. The infuser is plastic, so if you don''t actually wash it off but just run water over it, yes it will retain odor/taste. You have to have a semi abrasive action to take off whatever hangs around. Really not an issue if you aren''t a completely lazy bum. Takes me about 30 seconds to run a scrubby sponge around the inside and outside and I only need to do that if I''ve left it sitting around for hours on end with strong tea leaves inside.

The plunger does NOT get stuck unless you are a complete weakling or have a defective product. There''s suction at work once you''ve pushed it all the way down, so of course it won''t glide up smoothly with a light tug. I probably use more strength opening a jar of jam than I do lifting the plunger.

Combine this with the warmer and you''ve a GREAT product. You can have tea on hand for hours and sip your mornings away.

They also sell a 2 cup and a 6 cup model. Judge how much you might drink and then pick the one that suits you best. I sometimes wish I had the 6 cup one instead, as I find that if I have that much tea on hand at my desk, it''s very easy to drink and suddenly find it all gone without thinking about it. I love it.

I received this tea press as a present and I love it. It is easy to clean and easy to see the strength of the tea brewing. In the time it takes to heat the water, you can fill the basket with your favorite loose tea, take your cup and saucer from the cabinet and put some cookies on a plate. And did I say how easy it is to clean? I take my tea leaves and feed my plants with them, then I simply rinse and wash the parts.

Buy Bodum Assam Medium Tea Press with Plastic Filter Now

i have a collection of 2-4 cup tea pots which i use frequently. this is the one i use the most, because it''s the most convenient.

since it''s microwave safe, i can heat the warming water in the teapot. i like the press action, because i don''t have to worry about removing an infuser until i''m ready to wash the teapot. i don''t use gunpowder tea, so i have minimal problems with bits in the pot. yes, loose tea does sometimes get stuck in the strainer, but it''s not that hard to remove. the shape of the pot keeps any tea leaves from ending up in the cup.

i have put the strainer and the teapot through the dishwasher many many times over the four years i owned my original (i''m ordering a replacement--no matter how good the manufacturer, glass still breaks when dropped in the sink). all the parts look the way they did the day i opened the package.

i highly recommend this teapot.

After I was introduced to the superiority and richness of loose-leaf tea over the much compromised and degraded tea bag format, I want on a quest to find the ultimate tea infuser. I tried a steel mesh ball, a mesh net that goes over the tea mug, and a French Press. I then opted for the glass and metal Bodum Assam 4-Cup Tea Press over the less expensive plastic one because the plastic might melt, might adversely affect flavor, and its filter holes were too big to filter all forms of loose tea. The Bodum Assam 4-Cup Press proved superior in terms of its filter (no loose tea particles floating in the water), its heavy-duty construction, its dishwater-safe feature, and its ease of use. You can forget all the other methods for infusing tea. Get the Bodum.

Want Bodum Assam Medium Tea Press with Plastic Filter Discount?

This is a fine product. I''ve been using it for six months now without any problems, including the plunger. It works almost exactly like a French press for coffee. Regarding complaints form other users--I put it in the dishwasher once a week, which gets rid of odors. It''s much easier to use than a teaball or infuser...but you cannot leave the tea without being plunged any longer than you normally would or it will get bitter.

Watts 116101 Standard Faucet Save 21% Off

Watts 116101 Standard Faucet with Air Gap, Brushed Nickel
  • Air Gap faucet to meet plumbing codes for reverse osmosis units
  • Meets all low lead NSF requirements
  • Multiple colors available for custom kitchens
  • Fits all under counter reverse osmosis water filter systems
  • Uses 1/4" Supply Tube

BEFORE YOU PURCHASE--if your old faucet is just leaking or making noise, see "maintenance" below.

QUALITY

The faucet is good quality. I used it to replace an identical one which had operated flawlessly for 20 years.

STYLE

The design is very convenient: The lever has three positions, 1) UP = open (conveniently for filling a pot), 2) closed, 3) DOWN = press-open, which is convenient for filling a glass---even with the hand you are holding the glass. Many more expensive faucets are "crank open" / "crank shut. The "giraffe neck" rotates 360 degrees, and so, if installed at the corner of a sink (or elsewhere), can fill a pot placed on the counter.

WHAT''S INCLUDED / WHAT''S NOT INCLUDED

Included: the faucet itself, hardware to install in the counter-top, and fittings to attach the blue tube to the faucet. NOT INCLUDED: any fittings to attach the 3 water tubes to the filters, drain, etc.

SUPPLIED INSTRUCTIONS

NO MEANINGFUL INSTRUCTIONS are included, and are incomplete for this faucet. The instructions printed on the box are for several different types of faucets, do NOT show you how to attach the blue tube, and do not helpfully identify the red and black tubes. If I had tried to install the faucet following the "instructions" I would have installed it wrong. Solution: Install the faucet according to the instructions which came with your water filter system, exactly as your previous faucet was installed.

INSTALLATION SUGGESTIONS

Note that you can install it as shown on the photo, or reversed with the lever toward the sink (which I think is more convenient).

Turn off the water supply to the water filter which is attached to the faucet you are replacing; open the old faucet an let it drain until no more water comes out (the same steps you''d take for replacing filters).

Blue tube: attach to the "stud" on the bottom of the faucet with the supplied fittings (nylon ferrule and compression nut)

Red tube: pre-attached, "brine input"

Black tube: pre-attached, "brine output"--i.e., waste water line to your kitchen sink drain-line

You will probably have to remove part of your osmosis system to gain access. When disconnecting your old system, label each connection you disconnect on both sides. Use a 2" to 3" strip of painter''s tape and fold it over in half to make a tab to write on (and use a permanent marker). Number the connections 1, 2, 3, etc. Remember to label BOTH sides of the connection with the SAME number (1 connects to 1, 2 connects to 2, 3 connects to 3, etc.). Disconnect as few water lines as you can. As a backup, take closeup photos with your digital camera of every connection which you plan to disconnect AFTER labeling and BEFORE disconnecting.

Preparing for installation of the new faucet. Assemble the spacer, washer, and nut on the faucet (leave about 1/2" for the thickness of your counter). Install the blue line on the faucet using the supplied hardware (a nylon ferrule and a compression nut). It is a good idea to install the fittings on the other ends of the tubes at this point (you will probably have to reuse them from your old faucet connections).

Lower the tubes through the hole in your counter-top, until the new faucet is in place. Decide on which direction you want the lever to point. From underneath, slide the "split washer" in place between the counter-top and the spacer, and tighten the nut. (You should have the right size box wrench ready--space and visibility are likely to be very tight, and it is hard to determine what the right size is blindly. Alternatively, you can use a deep socket wrench (if you have one of the right size), and install the blue tube later. Many faucet installation kits include such a socket--this one doesn''t). Note that the space may be very right---pliers or an adjustable wrench probably won''t work.

Attach the blue and red tubes to your filter system and the black tube to your sink drain. It is best not to cut the red or blue tubes, even if they are too long, because their length provides easier access to the system for maintenance (you can move the tank and/or filters temporarily without disconnecting the lines). However the black drain tub should probably be cut so the waste water flows straight to the drain, without a dip in which the waste water can collect. Ideally, the black waste line should be as short and as steep as possible. Important: if you must cut a blue or red tube, cut it with a very sharp blade (such as a utility knife with a new sharp blade), absolutely perpendicular.

FIXING LEAKS AFTER NEW INSTALLATIONS--see also "maintenance" below

After installing the new faucet, you should monitor the system for at least 12 hours for leaks--they can develop slowly. If there is a leak you can''t find, tie strips of paper kitchen towels around the tubes and place paper towels at other strategic points; check after about 15 minutes and the source of the leak should be obvious.

Although the fittings are designed to install without plumber''s thread tape, or plumber''s paste, if after reasonably tightening them, they still leak, then plumber''s pipe tape or paste will help. You can use "Plumber''s Goop" on the threads rather than traditional plumber''s pipe paste. For Goop to work best, the fittings should be dry before you assemble them. Eclectic Products Inc 3.7Oz Plumbing Goop 150011 Thread Tape & Paste

If that fails, you can use a blob of "Plumber''s Goop" on the outside of the fitting as a sealant to stop the leak. In the latter case, you MUST allow the "Plumber''s Goop" to harden for at least TWO FULL days before turning on the water to the filter/faucet. Plumber''s Goop used this way can be reinforced by embeding unwaxed dental floss in the wet glue. I sometimes use Goop as a backup on fittings that are NOT leaking, but using Goop this way can make the connection difficult or impossible to disassemble at some later time.

NOTE that a tiny leak in any part of your kitchen plumbing can easily cause hundreds (even thousands) of dollars worth of damage. A leak detector is strongly recommended. Zircon Leak Alert Electronic Water Detector, 1-Pack Such a detector warned of a leak in my hot-water-heater cabinet before irreparable damage was done.

ROUTINE NOISE

In normal operation the air-gap causes a dripping noise (usually for about 5 to 15-minutes immediately after using a quantity of water from your reverse osmosis system). If the water supplies an ice-maker, you can hear the dripping at other times. According to the Watt company, most of that noise is actually the waste water splashing into the pool of waste water in the elbow below your sink---so (according to Watt), a heavy nylon fishing line in the black waste water line leading into your sink drain and down to the elbow can minimize the noise, providing a path for the waste water to flow, but I have not tried that, because the noise doesn''t bother me. Theoretically, a sink strainer in the closed position should completely muffle the sound (but I use a simple screen instead which catches more stuff). Besides, the dripping sound is a good way to monitor that the system is working properly.

MAINTENANCE

After about 6 months of use, the black waste-water tube can become clogged with a bacterial mat. If you pay attention, there is an odd choking gurgling sound when the tube is almost clogged. When it is clogged, the waste water will leak from the faucet itself out onto your counter. Note that it is actually designed to do this, which is why instructions usually specify mounting the faucet at the edge of a sink (assuming that most of the overflow will flow into the sink). The solution is to regularly clean the black waste-water tube. The best way I''ve found is with an 18" length of "weed-whacker" cord. Detach the black tube from your sink waste-line, and feed the "weed-whacker cord" into the tube and scrub it out. If you''ve had a root-canal procedure, you know how it''s done. Note that the bacterial mat is a very nasty sludge---have an old cloth towel handy to catch the gunk. I recently purchased a "beer line brush" Draft Beer Line Hose Cleaning Brush: 3/16" diameter, which works well---the 1/4" diameter model might work better.

Since physically cleaning out the gunk the last time, I''ve been squirting a few drops of Clorox into the air-gap hole (in the faucet housing) about once a month. The following bottle, which works well for this purpose is $3 at the Container Store Nalgene Plastic Drop Bottle. A Beachcombers! 1/2 Oz & 1oz Soft Squeeze Fine Metal Tip Moroccan Blunt Needle Syringe Type Body Art Henna Tattoo Applicators, 5 Tips 4 Bottles would probably be even better. Note that on faucet and similar models, the air gap is beneath the lever, opposite the girafe neck. For access, pull the girafe neck up, and slide the lever forward (in the direction of the girafe neck). The "air gap" is the hole which contains the black plastic insert (leave the plastic insert alone, it is the tiny "faucet" where the the red water line discharges into the air gap). To reassemble, push the lever backward (in the direction of the air gap), so that the legs slide under the "T", and then push the girafe neck back into place. In the more recent models (those which are domed cylinders without the flat sides), the air gap is accessible, a hole on the back side---perhaps for the very purpose of making the air gap easier to sanitize.

LEAKING (see also "maintenance")

If the faucet leaks ONLY when you are using it (usually after 10 years or so off use), then the problem may be the o-ring seals of the "girafee neck". You can just pull the "giraffe neck" straight up, and replace the o-rings. LIGHTLY lubricate the new o-rings with silicon grease. Permatex 22058 Dielectric Tune-up Grease 3 oz. It is a good idea to dab a little bit of the silicon grease where the lever rubs against the giraffe neck to minimize wear---and for noticeable smoother operation. If you don''t happen to have a tube of silicon grease, buy one---it is terrific for rejuvenating any rubber items and for improving electrical connections---even fixing computer problems.

DON''T PANIC

Yes that nasty sewage-like sludge in the waste line is scary stuff---but the "air gap" is a separate system with only shares the faucet structure---the good water supply is entirely separate from the "air gap" system. What about the possibility of the "contamination" growing it''s way into your reverse-osmosis filter?---"theoretically" it shouldn''t get past the air gap---but you could install an "inline check valve" in the red tube to minimize the possibility. If your reverse-osmosis waste-water line did not drain into your sink-waste pipe, then your reverse-osmosis waste water line could not get contaminated by the sludge growing in the elbow in the sink-waste pipe, and would not make even "routine" noise---hint.

Buy Watts 116101 Standard Faucet Now

My original faucet lasted me nearly 7 years. It started leaking two days before Christmas and this was the only replacement I could get on short notice (Watts and Amazon were out of the other style faucet I wanted).

This comes with everything you need to install it and generally, if you follow the instructions, you can install this without professional help. I also installed our Watts 5-stage RO system. The instructions themselves aren''t great, but with some common sense, you can figure it out.

The faucet, once installed, dispenses the water quickly. If you flip the switch up, it will stay on without having to hold the switch. This is great if you need to dispense alot of water (like into a pitcher or nalgene bottle). If you flip the switch down, it dispenses as long as you hold it.

This unit is somewhat noisy. When the system is replenishing itself, you can here alot of gurgling through the air gap. It doesn''t really bother me as if I''m home, I''m not in the kitchen too much or I have the TV on so I don''t really hear it. If you are sensitive to this type of thing however, you might want to invest in another model. It seems fine for me.

After two weeks, I''ve got no leaks and it works just fine.

I bought this in May 2011 to replace the faucet that originally came with the Watts RO system. Now it is leaking. It leaks water all over the counter. I wrapped a dish cloth around the base and let it drape in to a casserole dish. I left the house for 5 hours and came back to see that the casserole dish was filled with water. The other reviews are right this product does not last long.

It has been about 15 months now and this exact faucet has become hard to push on the lever and get water to flow. Poor quality product that is not designed for long life. It is now a biig hassle to replace this because of access issues under the sink.

Received my order today, It was the correct type, a Standard 3-Tube Air Gap Faucet for RO systems. The product is of high quality and exactly the type of faucet I expected.

Just an FYI: due to the corrosive properties of RO water and the brine water traveling through the Air Gap Faucet you should expect to need to replace the Air Gap Faucet every several years, I have needed to replace mine 3 times in 13 years. I think the next time I will just replace the whole RO system.

I gave it only 4 stars because I don''t know for sure which product I actually received. The Box is labeled Watts Premier Part# 116054 which according to the Watts website is the "Brushed Stainless Steel Air Gap Faucet" however the UPC tag# 9935-"116054", also on the box, clearly says "Brushed Nickel Air Gap Faucet" which is Watts Part# 116101, since brushed Nickel and Stainless look so similar I am not sure it is going to matter. But I will update after install and let you know which item I think I actually received. Perhaps Watts sells the same faucet under two descriptions and prices.

Update: I am fairly certain the faucet I received is Stainless Steel, even though the description on the box says "Brushed Nickel" The faucet clearly does not have the same bluish hue the new Brushed Nickel kitchen faucet has.

As far as I can tell, this is a good filtration device in the faucet. Moen discontinued the model, do not know why. Perhaps the electronics were not so good. However, Moen is an excellent company to do business with, they back their products. I would have to have my water tested to determine the effectiveness of the filter, water tastes good and I change the filter often.

I was happy to find the Moen 601 Pure Touch filter for my Moen faucet online. It is so much easier to order a couple of filters online instead of running around town trying to find them. It works great in my Moen kitchen faucet and the hard water tastes good when I filter it.

The tap is flashing orange and I think that means its time to change the filter.. I find it very convent to have this kind of filtration system built into the tap. I can not comment on how long they last till I replace the ones that''s in there, I''ve just moved in the Condo so this will be my first time replacing it. The product came on time, and was packaged well.

Saeco Odea Giro Plus Fully Automatic Espresso Machine Save 28% Off

Saeco Odea Giro Plus Fully Automatic Espresso MachineI purchased this machine on the "whole latte love" website. It took a week to arrive via ups ground. Upon arrival it was 100% dead. as soon as you turn it on the alarm light turns on and the machine does not do anything. also the optional filter was missing as well. I called the seller that told me to call Saeco, this is their agreement. I called Saeco (Philips) that issued me a promise for replacement

I received this replacement within less then a week, which is great. Initially they "promised" 10-14 days, but changed that after long phone discussions. the second machine arrived and turned on as promised. It made 5 great espresso shots and after the 5th shot the alarm light turned on (again). Nothing helped besides resetting the machine. Every 3-5 cups I need to reset it for the same reasons. The resetting itself takes about 30-40 seconds, but it is pretty unpleasant to need to do this all the time.

In summary, although it makes a good espresso shot and despite good foaming, I would not buy this one again. I think a machine that needs to be re-set every few cups is pretty unreliable.

Also I tried to publish a negative review about it on the wholelatte art website but they did not publish it. i think they filter negative feedbacks so whatever you read there is most likely unreliable as well.

After owning the Saeco Giro Plus for about a month, here are my observations

Pros:

Great tasting coffee! Very strong without tasting bitter. Rich creme.

Affordable price. Paid $400 from a "club" store.

Relatively quiet compared to my sister''s super-automatic Krups.

Cons:

After installing the water filter, the water storage is pretty low, 3 cups of Americano at most.

Machine is very finicky (will go more in detail later)

The "cup warmer" feature is a joke, only thing it can warm are ice cubes.

Here''s a list of stuff that might cause the warning light to go off.

Solid Warning Light:

Steam knob not turned all the way off (need to click in place)

Water is low (20% full is still considered low, sensor goes by weight it seems)

Drip tray is full

Slow Blinking Warning Light:

Brew group not inserted properly (DON''T hold the Push button when inserting, it should click in)

Grounds bin not inserted (the sensor is finicky, sometimes you need to pull out and push in again)

Fast Blinking Warning Light (hot water dispensing light will also be on):

Machine needs to be primed (while the hot water dispensing light is on turn the steam knob on till the red light goes away)

Don''t forget to rinse the brew unit in hot water (no soap) once a week. This will prevent build up of oils and sludge.

This is a review by a Coffee Fanatic who has owned several machines, including the $8000 industrial version. I had the Vienna Plus for 8 months and decided to give that away to get the Odea Go. It does not matter which model you get, all the Odeas have the same BMW mechanics and design. All work the same way. So I''ll give a comparison for your own judgement.

The Vienna Plus had more water in the dredge drawer.. so much that I first thought the machine was leaking!! Found out that IS the way the machine works.. But the machine was bigger than the Odea, so it had room. I had to clean it out every 6-8 cups made.

The Vienna also allowed me to see the water level, so it was easy to refill.

Now for the ODEA:

Doesn''t matter which model Odea you get, they''re the same build. I was impressed by the BMW-designed mechanics, so I bought it for the sleeker look. Smaller unti fitted well on the small kitchen counter I have.

MAKES STRONGER COFFEE than other models of Saeco that I''ve tried/borrowed/owned/tasted. It''s able to extract more flavor.

PROBLEMS:

1. The water container is smaller than the Vienna. And the tank is hidden, so you can NOT see when it''s time to refill. YOU MUST refill before it''s down to 2 cups left, because the light weight will make the sensor stop working. The sensor is not by water, but by weight of water!

2. The coffee lid can''t be opened while the machine is ON. The other models can. This is weird.. because I used to be able to refill the Vienna while it''s brewing.

3. The dredge drawer needs to be emptied for every 3-4 cups of coffee brewed!! Though it''s not really full, the sensor will not let you brew coffee with water in this drawer!! So you will end up cleaning this every 4 cups max.

4. The drawer can''t be seen, the spills can''t be seen, because of the sleek design, everything is covered. And everything is BLACK, so you can''t see whether you''ve cleaned it very well. Coffee grinds may be hidden in places you can''t see... all gray and black plastic!!

WHEN MY NEW MACHINE WAS 5 WEEKS OLD, THE 3 RED LIGHTS FLASHED QUICKLY which means electrical problems. Turning it off and on did not help. Calling the manufacturer, diagnosed over the phone, and ended up to have to replace it with a new one. IT SIMPLY STOPPED WORKING.

Making the story short: I am now on my third Odea -only because they won''t let me get a different one even if I offered additional money to upgrade. And I''m not about to waste over $600 for a couple of months'' use.

I have tried quite a few machines. This is by far my favorite. Every shot is perfect and the crema is gorgeous too. The panarella wand makes perfect froth of microscopic bubbles. I am a latte fanatic and my lattes are gorgeous. When I was researching this machine, I came across a youtube video of a woman that was comparing frothing and showing how to do it on this machine, and basically saying that this machine sucks. She is an idiot. She seriously does not know how to froth milk with a home machine. Maybe her method (no skill whatsoever) works on an industrial machine. Anyway, don''t pay attention to her if you come across that video. The reason I didn''t give her or any of the negative reviews too much credit is because my sister, who is a personal chef, swears by her Saeco, so I just trusted her. I am really glad I did. A couple of my friends have also bought Saeco machines after using mine. I so prefer my Saeco to the high-end machine we have at work. The shot the other one produces is just as good, but the frothing on the Saeco is substantially superior.

So, a few notes: Yes, the machine is a bit finicky. You do learn quickly what the lights mean when they blink or hold solid or whatever. It takes a bit of just looking up the error message and fixing the issue. The issue is never a big deal. Just clean the dreg container or provide more water (it has a kind of small receptacle). Or, fill up the coffee bean container. But, you have to do stuff like that with every machine, unless you spend $$s to hook one up to a water line or whatever.

Anyway, I have had really good luck with my machine and I would buy another one. And, if it does break down, I would take the effort to find a shop to repair it. I did accidentally drop my panarella wand into the disposal and wrecked it. I called the company and they worked with me to get me the right part for a decent price. Good luck with your decision!!

Well, I finally dumped my $2000 Livia 90 after having this unit in place for a few weeks. My wife just hated the Espresso mess of the big machine and grinder (I never cleaned up). This system is fully contained, no mess at all, and it makes a GREAT Espresso. Don''t miss the Livia 90 at all.

You will not be disappointed, but definitively opt for the GIRO over the GO and get the OptiDose selectable Espresso Dose, it makes a difference to get the ''pull'' YOU like. Adding to the selection of volume on the front knob, is a single, double, triple doser selection adjusting 5-10grams of grinds.

Water Distiller, Countertop, White Enamel, Glass Collection Save 13% Off

Water Distiller, Countertop, White Enamel, Glass CollectionI''ve been using this distiller for almost a year, and it makes the best water I''ve ever tasted. The only reason I don''t give it five stars is that I think there might be a way to make it more convenient; I think an older or frail person would have a tough time removing the upper cover (fan unit) after distilling (it''s fairly heavy, and it makes a tight seal with the body of the distiller).

When I first started using this distiller, I thought there was a slightly acrid taste to the water, even with the carbon filter. Eventually I figured out what was wrong. I live in an area where the tap water has a very high mineral content. The body of the distiller is essentially an electric kettle that holds a gallon of water. It shuts off automatically when the water boils off. But the mineral gunk left over gets burned onto the bottom and the sides of the "kettle", and that''s what was causing the slightly off taste. By setting a timer so that I remember to shut off the distiller before the last few ounces of water boil away, I''ve been able to improve the taste of the water, as well as make de-scaling the kettle a less frequent task. (Starting from cold tap water, it takes about 6 hours to distill a gallon of water, so I shut it off at about 5 1/2 hours.) Curiously, the little button on the front of the distiller body is only an "ON" button; to manually turn the distiller off, you have to pull the power plug.

Another slight drawback to this product is that the cooling fan is pretty loud. I run the distiller in a downstairs utility room, so it doesn''t bother me at all, but you wouldn''t want to be in the same room with it when it''s running.

It''s now seven years after I bought this distiller and left the first review. It''s still in use and works great. It has turned out to be one of the better purchases I''ve made. I don''t have much to add to the earlier reviews, but it is still problem-free, and useful as ever.

The three-years-later review:

This is an update and some notes after three years of using this distiller:

1. It works as well as the first time I used it. This is a solid piece of work.

2. It''s easier to keep clean if you rinse it well every two or three gallons, and give it a few seconds worth of a scrub. The deposits that build up on it come right off if you just pour a water/vinegar mix into it and let it sit a while. Scrubbing a little helps. This thing is not hard to keep clean, but it helps to be regular with the maintenance. Besides, the deposits don''t seem to affect the water anyway. I''ve never let them build up really thick though. Also, if you catch it before it''s boiled all the way down, there are no deposits at all.

3. You can make your own LCD-screen and CD/DVD cleaner with this: Mix rubbing alcohol (I use the 91%) with triple-distilled water, half and half. Pour it on to an LCD and/or CD-safe cleaning cloth, like one of those little microfiber lens cloths, and it works very well. It works as well as the commercial stuff, and is infinitely cheaper. Using the distilled water rather than tap water means it won''t leave the white streaks on the screen as it dries.

4. I haven''t used the little charcoal filter packs in years now. Not sure what that info is good for, but everything works just fine without it.

5. The collection bottle is a bit challenging to keep clean because of its shape, and we use a bottle brush to clean it. I can''t think of any alternative design that would be easier to clean, so no points off for it. It''s still neat to me that it fits perfectly inside the distiller when it''s not in use. That kind of attention to detail still pleases me.

6. Coffee made with distilled water is more delicious and consistent.

7. The sharp taste I complained about in the original review has gone away. I''m assuming it was either caused by ''manufacturing residue'' or something in the water bottle or the coils, even though I washed it well before using it.

The original review:

The distiller works as advertised, and it''s cheaper to buy it here than direct from NutriTeam when you consider the shipping cost, and it arrived very quickly. If you''re paying about a dollar per gallon of bottled distilled water, this appliance pays for itself pretty quickly. I give it five stars but with a couple reservations and a few specific kudos.

The negatives: The cooling fan on top is pretty loud. It''s not loud like, say, an air-conditioner, but it''s still pretty loud and can be heard a room and a hallway away. It''s not loud enough to disrupt conversation, though. In addition, the distiller is larger than it looks in the photo. This isn''t an item you can easily shove to the side of the counter when it''s not in use, but if you''re like me and make a couple gallons a day for drinking, cooking, and ice cubes, it will be in frequent-enough use to justify the space. A dedicated area for it, like a TV-Tray somewhere in the corner, is perfect.

The positives: The collection jug fits inside the main distiller chamber when not in use, and that helps a lot with counter space. The amount of water that fits in the collection jug is also the exact amount to hit the fill-line inside the main chamber. That''s a bonus, because you don''t have left-over water to pour out, nor do you have to make multiple trips. I''d expect it to be that way, but real convenience like that isn''t often considered by manufacturers. In addition, the charcoal filter chamber is very easy to manage and fit the filter. The design is also quite simple and easy to clean, not complicated with weird flaps and parts like some other distillers. You cannot beat the price for a kitchen-ready distiller. I''ve seen several distillers with less capacity that cost four times as much.

The 4-gallons a day description seems accurate though I''ve never tried to make that much in a single day. It takes right at 6 hours to make a gallon. I start it with hot water from the tap rather than cold; I''m not sure how much a difference it would take if I started it with cold water. I''ve found that filling the collection bottle to the first ridge from the top, rather than all the way to the top, makes it easier to manage when later collecting the distilled water as a full jug is hard to handle without spilling any. There''s surprisingly little waste -pretty much all the water seems to make it through distillation and in to the collector, so the amount you put in is the amount you get out.

The distilled water it makes has that sharp taste to it that bottled distilled water had several years ago rather than the smoother taste of more recent bottled distilled water. I suspect that''s because of the charcoal filtering, so I''m going to try it without the charcoal filter to see how that affects the taste. I''ve also found that like with the older bottled water, giving it a good hard shake improves the taste -something or other about introducing air in to the water, or so I hear. Whatever the reason, it helps. It''s still better than the stuff coming out of the tap.

I have only had this unit for about a week (edit : now three weeks). After fifteen gallons of water, I thought I would share what I have learned so far.

My water is very hard (mostly calcium) and has chloramines added. I keep several aquariums (55, 30, & 20 gallons), so I am sensitive to the water quality of any device.

I purchased this device because my years old (recently serviced) reverse osmosis rental unit was putting out about 5 ppm of nitrates. My tap water has about 15 ppm of nitrates. The water that this distiller produces measures 0 ppm nitrates (with my test strips) so I am very happy, my problem is solved.

I did notice a slight metallic taste to the first two gallons that I made with tap water. I then tried an experiment, and used water from my ''PUR 3 stage faucet filter'' to fill this thing and the ''funny'' taste was gone. I researched this a little and mostly discovered that the distiller is not able to remove all of the VOCs (gases in this case). Pre and post filtering with activated carbon was recommended. I would have to agree. This morning I tasted some water from the distiller along side some of the reverse osmosis unit water, and, guess what? The RO water tastes a little ''funny'', the distilled water tasted great.

For the aquarium water, I add back in some essential minerals, the fish require these to live. I experimented with the distilled water and added back in a few commonly available minerals (baking soda, potassium chloride, magnesium sulfate, and citric acid) in small amounts (varying, about < 200 mg /liter of each) and was able to get the best tasting water that I have ever encountered.

If you are the adventurous type, like me, I buy high quality activated carbon by the pound (aquarium supply) and put two teaspoons of that into some coffee filter material, and use that as a replacement for the ''filter packets'' that sale for about $1 a piece. My price, this way, is about $.10 per filter. That, and I trust aquarium suppliers, some people have many thousands of dollars invested into their fish, so the QC on the aquarium supplies needs to be high (or everyone will hear about it). There just is not much of the same QC on drinking water filter material.

I do recommend using a timer to shut the distiller off after about 5 1/2 hours. In my case, I have about four ounces of something in the tank that looks like a mild children''s paste mix. The unit switches off (as I understand it) with a thermal switch. Running it out to a full cycle will not hurt anything, but all of the minerals will end up as baked on ''crispy critters'' on the inside of the tank.

Hey, enjoy this distiller. I love the thing.

Ken Miller

Update May 27, 2008:

I have been using this device a lot (twice+ daily) in the past few weeks, producing over 75 gallons of distilled water. I have 105 gallons worth of aquariums, which explains my need for the amount of water, and I just love the taste (with my little bit of added minerals).

I do a ''rinse and wipe'' after each use with a little dish soap and baking soda. The citric acid cleaning solution works well for removing any build up of minerals when used about once a week. Keep in mind, that the cleaning solution takes a little time to dissolve the minerals, so, you may need to swish it around in the tank every few minutes for as much as ten minutes until any built up minerals are dissolved.

As far as worrying about a #7 plastic collection container:

Originally, that #7 made me a little nervous, but after reading everything I could find on the subject, I had to conclude that time, heat, and harsh chemicals are what cause the unwanted chemicals to leach out into the water.

The water that comes out of this device is (average) warm, I would guess 90F degrees. I can only guess that that is a low enough temperature not to cause any immediate reactions, however slight. No worries for me there in storing water in the container for a day or so in the refrigerator. I do now use a stainless steel ''water bottle'' at work as a replacement for my old ''non-reusable'' plastic water bottle that I reused every day. I do not use detergents to wash out the collector bottle, as that was one of the things that caused a release of unwanted chemicals in a study that I had read. A good rinse with tap water (with maybe a little baking soda) will do a good job of cleaning the collector bottle.

enjoy,

:)

Ken

After having 2 Sears units die on me, I found this one. I like the fact that there are no complicated electronics in it I don''t need my water distiller to tell me the time. It does take 4-5 hours for a gallon of water. This is a very reliable unit. You fill it to the line, plug it in, and press a button. Very easy to use.

The carbon filters are reasonably priced and several come with the unit. It also came with powder to clean it with that works well.

The water tastes great. I''m glad I''m not drinking the yellow goo left behind. This rugged unit is a very good buy.

We''ve had this product for several months. We use it for 2-3 gallons everyday. It''s easy to use. The water is great. The reverse osmosis filter wasn''t taking out enough. My daughter and I had cardiac arrhytmias (probably some heavy metals) until we started drinking distilled water. Anyone with chronic health problems from unknown sources should try distilled water for a few weeks. Could make a difference.

Found these Philips units here at Amazon and packed them as well. Well the unit works exactly as advertised -cleans the air to the extent that you can both see & smell the difference! The horrendously bad Air Quality Index -the US embassy famously called it "Crazy Bad", makes us very aware of what precautions the family can take to mitigate the risk. Universal Works in Most Alkaline Thermos.for Best Results Replace Every 30 Days !!!!!!!!! + a Free Power of Nature Energy Negitive Ion- Anti Rad- Energy CardI bought this after doing a couple weeks of research on the benefits of alkalized water. And after sifting through all the products and claims by manufacturers this seemed to be the most cost effective with regards to the initial purchase and subsequent filter replacements. When I say it is an excellent improvement on water I mean that not only the taste but the feel of it is just amazingly smooth and refreshing. The day I got the thermos I did a blind taste test with my roommates on their opinion of which tasted better, and if they could pick which was which that would be even better. I used samples of our tap water, distilled water, and the alkalized ionized water. All four of them, after tasting all three, then gave me a unanimous vote that sample number two (the youth water) seemed "softer" to the palate, and proceeded to label all three correctly. I have to say I was skeptical at first because I always thought water was just water and their could be no discernible difference, but I have completely changed my mind just in the three days I have been drinking it and I look forward to experiencing the full range of benefits this product has to offer. I''ll write another review after the thirty day trial they recommend.

I might have liked it if I had received it, but it never got to my home. I have to see it, at least, to provide a good review.

Thermos Nissan 34-Ounce Vacuum Insulated Stainless-Steel Gourmet Coffee Press Save 11% Off

Thermos Nissan 34-Ounce Vacuum Insulated Stainless-Steel Gourmet Coffee PressI''ve had one of these press pots and have used it for about 5 years. The description says it keeps coffee warm for hours. This is not quite right. It will keep it drinkable for an hour (the press pot is not double hulled like nissan thermouses). I transfer mine directly after pressing into a nissan thermous. My press pot has been used daily and it is as good as new. I don''t under stand why people buy the glass one press pots. This nissan will last forever! The mesh screen does get worn, but mine is not so bad I''d replace it.

I drink my coffee stronger than average, okay, my husband calls it "Jet A" (the fuel used for jet engines) and I''ve never been happy with these automatic drip coffee makers. It came down to a professional espresso thousand dollar job or this little Nissan and I couldn''t be happier with it and the 9 bills I saved buying it. While some say it doesn''t keep coffee hot for very long, well how long does it take 2 people to drink 2 cups of coffee each? I just fill the pot with hot tap water while waiting for the kettle to boil and this keeps the coffee hot enough. Much better than that burnt taste of coffee left on a heating element.

I work in an office that does not allow individuals to have their own coffee machine due to fire concerns. Rather, they offer free coffee (ahem, if THAT stuff could be called anything other than hot colored water).

So, the french press is the way to go, and this thermos keeps the coffee hot just long enough for me, which is about 2 hours (don''t know why they claim 6 hours, mine is OK for 2-3 hours). I have seen some negative reviews of this product, and I think those folks need to take a minute to work with the product a bit more. Here are my recommendations:

1. If it leaks coffee grinds, then look at the screen. There should be NO bends in the screen along the coil. This is where coffee grinds can leak through. Nissan should replace the screen for you free of charge if you receive a defective screen, which is not all that uncommon. You can also buy replacement screens at local kitchen supply places.

2. If you don''t like the super-fine grained coffee that still gets through (I am like this), then do what I do. I place a regular paper coffee filter on top of the grinds prior to placing the screen on top. This does a fantastic job for me. It slows the press a lot, but the extra 10 seconds of press time is worth it in my mind.

3. Rinse the thing with HOT water prior to adding your coffee water. It makes a difference in my experience and helps make for a hotter cup of coffee.

4. Make sure the water you use is HOT. Be careful of some office coffee machines that have a hot water tap on them. This is usually not hot enough for coffee. You may want to use a separate container for microwaving your water to boiling hot before pouring into this container. This is true for all french presses, but the added thermal capacity of this stainless steel model cools the water slightly, so it helps.

5. Between pours, rotate the lid closed so that it is sealed off and won''t cool down as quickly. I usually forget to do this, but when I remember, I get warm coffee for almost 3 hours.

In summary, I get fantastic coffee with mine. For those of you that don''t, maybe try a few of these tips.

I would give this 5 stars, but I believe they ship too many of these with faulty screens that need replacement (the small bends in the screen near the coil can let grinds come through). This is a minor complaint for the price, though, as replacements are readily available if you don''t want to wait for Nissan to send you a replacement.

I bought this coffee press about two years ago and I love it. Makes a great cup of coffee. Easy to clean, usually I hand wash it but about once a week I toss it in the dishwasher. (They say to hand wash it only, but it seems to do fine in the dishwasher.)

I find that it keeps coffee warm enough for a couple of hours. Maybe not as fun as the see-through glass coffee presses but I like the extra insulation.

Want Thermos Nissan 34-Ounce Vacuum Insulated Stainless-Steel Gourmet Coffee Press Discount?

I went through several glass presses before seeking out a metal one I couldn''t break. I''ve been using the Nissan a month now and am completely happy with it. I''d like to address a couple of issues I see other people raising.

Some have said it''s not a double-walled thermos. It IS. However, the lid is a single (thick) layer of plastic. You can ''seal'' it by rotating the lid so the spout is fully closed, but it''s not as insulated as the rest of the press, and it doesn''t screw on. What I can''t say is how long it would keep fresh-pressed coffee hot, because I wouldn''t think of trying to store it. Coffee made in a french press should be consumed IMMEDIATELY. It doesn''t keep, hot or cold. You want coffee you can drink three hours from now -use a drip coffeemaker. The oils that make french pressed coffee taste better than drip also give it a short lifespan. So make what you need, and drink up; it''s easy enough to use that making it fresh isn''t a hassle.

I''ve seen some reviews expressing concern that the mesh is defective, the wrong size, or hard to replace. I have the leftover parts of several other presses to compare it to, and I can state categorically that the mesh is a standard size, exactly the same as every other mesh on the market. I''ve held this mesh up under a strong light next to two other brands -they are identical and completely interchangeable. Same size, same material, same make. I wonder if there''s really only one manufacturer and they just sell them to all the makers of french presses to re-brand and resell.

So if you''re worried about finding a replacement mesh when the time comes, don''t fear. You can replace it with the Bodum that can be ordered here at Amazon, or another one you buy, or the old mesh from your Starbucks or Bodum or other press whose glass canister you broke. As long as it''s a standard-sized french press (and most of them are) you''ll be fine.

Several people have complained about the "ill-fitting" mesh letting coffee grounds through. I have to wonder if something they''re doing is causing that. It hasn''t happened to me even once. No kinks, tears or buckles in the mesh, no loose grounds (at most a couple of strays--a few can get by in any press); after approximately 70 uses, mine still looks like new. Perhaps the people having trouble are shoving the plunger down hard and fast, as actors often do for dramatic effect on TV. Folks, don''t do that; the plunger exerts pressure that has to be released somewhere. Tap the canister gently on the countertop a time or two to let the grounds fall on their own, then depress the plunger slowly and evenly. This is true for any press, not just this one; even more so for glass models, because the pressure from a too-swift plunger can cause the glass to explode.

Some cheaper presses have a plunger that is partly plastic; they are flimsy and break easily. This one is all steel and heavy-duty. The plunger shaft, embedded through a close-fitting punched-out hole in the plastic lid, moves freely up and down, but isn''t going anywhere. It''s thick and well-made. The other three parts that screw on (the mesh and the two flatteners) are identical to steel parts you''ve seen on other presses. No cheap substitutes here.

A big thing I like about this model: the dripless pouring spout. Yes, it''s plastic, but the coffee doesn''t linger there everything inside the container, where the coffee sits, is all steel. Some reviewers warned of other metal presses that their spouts dribbled, that it was necessary to put a saucer underneath when pouring. This model does NOT suffer from that. Very clean, easy pouring. The plastic does not seem at all fragile or flimsy.

To sum up: it''s heavy-duty, probably unbreakable, so you can take it anywhere or handle it clumsily without fear. No plastic touches the coffee except the pouring spout. It is cool to the touch. It undoubtedly does keep coffee hot longer than a glass canister, but can''t double as a regular thermos because the lid is single-layer and the plunger is not detachable from it. So, if just getting a thermos is your priority, this isn''t the item you''re looking for. (I would have given it five stars if it had had a spare insulated, non-plunging lid so it could double as a regular thermos.) Plunger is thick, all-metal and probably the same manufacture as other popular brands. Mesh is industry standard size/make and easily replaceable. No-drip pouring. Handle, lid and spout are heavy, thick plastic. Burnished stainless steel finish. What else is there to know? I love mine.

Ceramic Water Filter Kit by Just Water

Ceramic Water Filter Kit by Just WaterA Sawyer Sawyer PointOne Emergency Water Filtration Kit with 1-Liter Light-Weight Durable Pouch is our basic portable system.

We added this Just Water Filter Kit for more capacity in our Stay-where-you-are system. Indeed, we considered a Berkey but could not envision enough improvement to justify the considerably higher price. Why pay for a stainless steel container good enough to last for 10 years of constant use when the most probable length of a water emergency is less than two months?

The Just Water Kit was quite easy to install on a 6-gallon food grade plastic container and lid. We used a small square plastic container originally holding dishwater soap for the unfiltered water container on top. It fit the 6-gallon container lid like a glove.

Highly recommend both products.

Bought this for prepping and for camping. Seems to work as advertised and the water tastes fine. They should sell the filter and 5gl buckets/lids as a kit.

This filter really works. Makes pure drinking water out of questionable water.

It does, however, make it a bit slower than stated. Supposed to purify a gallon an hour. The most I got was 2 qts per hour but pleanty enough for two people.

Water runs through this product extremely quickly, unlike the more expensive British counterparts. Not sure of product efficacy as far as bacterium, but it does take out particles and dirt. If used, I would use in conjunction with a bleach treatment or heating.

Cuisinart DCC-1200PRC 12-Cup Replacement Glass Carafe Save 39% Off

Cuisinart DCC-1200PRC 12-Cup Replacement Glass Carafe, BlackI received an e-mail from Amazon asking me to review this carafe, which I had purchased about two weeks ago. OK, I''ll write a review. Here we go: In a world where carafes often go unnoticed, many carafes and carafe-like kitchen accessories struggled to rise above the masses; to gain recognition; to find some way to be different. This carafe, all by itself, did just that. Bravely staying put in the coffee maker while near-boiling coffee dripped in, resolutely holding this coffee for up to several hours so that the Joe wouldn''t just flow freely across the kitchen counter top, this carafe decided to make a difference. Sometimes our world seems to be coming apart at the seams, but you can count on this carafe to hold your coffee together in one place. Coming soon to a theater near you. (I''m here all week; try the roast beef).

This is an excellent example of soaking the consumer. You can buy an entire coffee maker for the price of this carafe, but once you''ve committed to the Cuisinart coffee maker, you''ve got to buy their replacement carafe only because nothing else will fit. And it''s not terribly well made (fairly thin glass), which is why the original one broke so easily.

But it does make good coffee. Just be careful washing the carafe.

I have had my Cuisinart coffeemaker for 3-4 years now, and I''m currently on my fifth (!!!) replacement carafe. The carafe is fine. Its handle is sturdy, the carafe has never dribbled, and can hold max capacity of 12 cups of coffee. I use it about twice a day.

My only complaint is that the glass wall of the carafe is thin. My first, second, and third carafes were chipped or broken by falls. However, this latest one was very flimsy: after many months of handwashing (I never put it in the dishwasher), I accidentally tapped the side of the carafe on the granite counter next to the sink, and it _shattered_ into many small pieces. My fifth carafe now is 5 months strong.

Yes, it''s upsetting that the replacement carafes are so expensive. But the coffeemaker itself is excellent, and I won''t change getting replacement carafes (unless there is a generic out there that''s cheaper and sturdier). This makes me think of inkjet printers: they''re so cheap, but the ink is so expensive. The Cuisinart coffeemaker is inexpensive and EXCELLENT, but unfortunately the carafes are expensive.

Having already replaced my DCC 1200PRC twice a friend advised to shop for the generic version which is available at about half the price! Although I love my Cuisinart coffee maker, replacing the pot had become way too expensive. I am very happy with the model that I found at Total Vac.
