Inline Water Filters 85470 Washing Machine Inline Water Filter

I''m on a well and we have a lot of sediment in our water. So much sediment that we have to remove the factory installed screen on our clothes washer twice each time we wash a load of clothes. This is essentially a larger screen (trap), but more accessible and with a fibrous material included (filter). It might be a bit too restrictive for my needs. I like the product, and it''s built well (solid and simple, PVC, easily disassembled/reassembled), but I''m not convinced it''s any better than a pressure washer inline filter (green cap), and those have a more accessible filter if, like me, you need to remove it often.

I have well water, and due to some interaction with water and hot water heater, I get flecks of calcium in the hot water. The washing machine screen would clog frequently, so I decided to try and pre-filter. This unit worked great for a month or so, but the fibrous screen clogged as well. I disassembled the unit and pulled the fiber screen out, leaving just the metal screen, so hoping I can now get several months before clogging.

If I recall, the info for the product does not mention a fiber screen, thus this review. Just be aware of it it may not be an issue for you, and if all you want to do is trap occasional flecks of metal etc this will probably work fine for you.

Im on well water and this product might be ok if you are also using a whole house water filter, which im not. I do have one on order since this clogs up just as often as the inlet on my washer.I will update if this fixes my problem.

Update.....i now have the whole house filter installed and problem solved. i should have gotten the whole house filter first and i dont think i would have needed this.

However Hydro Galaxy sold me an used(probably a customer return) filter!!! This is unacceptable!!! The filter and package came with residual water from last user and I don''t feel safe to use it. I bought this with the "new" improved Culligan US-600A 3/8-Inch Undersink Drinking Water Filter from Amazon because I wanted better filtration. The 600 A comes with the Culligan D-20A filter which fits perfectly with no leaks. When I installed the D-40 filter it leaked a lot and no amount of tightening could solve it. I also tried exchanging the rubber washers at the top to no avail. The D-40 and D-20 filters look to be the same size, but the D-20 has slight indentations on the bottom that allow the filter to seat properly inside the holder. It looks like the Culligan D-40 Carbon Block Filter for $31.87 could have been the correct filter, as opposed to this $27.19 filter. I don''t know. I do know that I''m out about $30 and still don''t have the correct filter. YUK.

If I juice without using these filters, my Acme juicer needs a labor-intensive cleaning to get the pulp out of the holes in the basket. The filters encircle the juicing compartment and adhere to the basket. After juicing, simply remove and discard the filter. Once, I ran out of filters and couldn''t find them in stores. I didn''t use my juicer for years until I found them at Amazon.

These filters, are not like the original. I got a package of filters with my Acme juicerator, and thought I was ordering the same thing when I ordered these "paper" filter replacements. The original lapped a little when installed, enough to completely cover the inside of the blade basket, and keep the pulp from sticking in the basket. These are 3/4" shorter, and barely meet, so there may still be some pulp that gets on the basket, and is a pain when it comes to cleanup. The other thing is these are NOT paper, like the old ones were. I put a match to one, just to prove it, and it did not burn like paper, but melted like plastic. Poor design, and poor quality.... and not an acceptable replacement for the original REAL paper filters. Disappointed here, but stuck with no other options for filters that I can find.

Zojirushi #CD-K03EJU Inner Container Cleaner for Electric Pots

We have a 5L Zoji hot water pot and recently, used 1 packet (per directions) of this stuff to clean it. It worked great! We did do the cleaning cycle twice, just to be sure we got all the lime scale out. We have hard water, use the pot daily and after several months, it was EXTREMELY scaled up inside. For those who were wondering... This product is just 100% pure granular citric acid. Nothing else. Citric acid is also called SOUR SALT. The same stuff you would use for canning, cooking Jewish foods, etc. Each packet contains 30 grams or 2 tablespoons. There are 4 packets per box, 120 grams total or 4.23 ounces. Citric acid is available in powdered and various granular forms (for VARIOUS prices). This granular product had about the texture of regular table salt. Any form would work just fine. First, you need to dissolve this product in 1 cup or 240 ml warm water. Next, fill pot with plain water to just below max fill line and pour citric acid mixture into inner container. Then, turn on unit and warm for 1-3 hours. Dump water, then refill with fresh water, bring to a boil, dispense a cup (240ml) or so, to flush dispenser tube and pump, then dump remaining water. KEEP WIRE FILTER PLUG IN PLACE DURING ENTIRE PROCESS, IF YOUR UNIT IS SO EQUIPPED. Zojirushi says to use the programed cleaning cycle and follow the directions in your owner''s manual, if your unit has this feature. Also, to adjust the amount of citric acid and the length of warming time, depending on the amount of scale in your pot. Zoji says this product may be used for all brands of water pots, probably because they are all made the same in one or two factories. Clean as a whistle, when done! Looks and works like new! Easy, too! Hope this is helpful! PS: It clearly states in the owners manual NOT to use vinegar (instead of citric acid) to clean your pot, as it will permanently damage your pots inner coating.

Works well but this a very expensive way to go. All you need to dissolve the scale is a mild acid.

We used to use vinegar, which works well but smells like vinegar. Some people report some corosion, though we used it on our old Zoji hot pot for about 7 years without noticing any corrosion. Perhaps it''s because we only descaled it twice a year.

Add a glass jar to the inside and you use a lot less (Think of how you displace water when you get in the tub) You can also save the vinegar to use again later, though white vinegar in bulk is quite inexpensive.

This product is 100% Citric acid which doesn''t smell, however for the same price here on Amazon you can buy almost 10 times as much if you buy food grade (Citric acid is used for lots of things including cooking.) We also use Citric acid in our dishwasher as the newer non phosphate detergents are much more susceptible to hard water deposits.

I use this to clean my 3L Zojirushi electric water boiling pot. Since I boil tap water in my pot, over time the interior of the pot becomes stained with minerals such as limescale and iron that precipitate from the water.

Zojirushi recommends this product to clean the pot. It''s easy to use use 1 packet, dissolve in water and fill the pot as directed, set the cleaning cycle, and voila, the pot is clean.

I have never had a strange taste or smell after cleaning, but note that I typically dump the first batch of water I use after I clean the pot, and use it as usual after that.

The cleaner is food grade citric acid. You can buy citric acid in bulk, and at a price that is much lower than this product.

Amazon does carry bulk citric acid labeled "food grade", but since citric acid is also widely used in industrial applications, I didn''t want to take any chances, so opted for this product, but next time may opt for a cheaper option.

Some reviews mention using vinegar to clean out the pot. My pot''s product manual specifically mentions not to use vinegar. Both vinegar and citric acid are mild acids, and I wonder why the manufacturer seems to be so anti-vinegar?

The only reason I can come up with is that vinegar may react with the lining of the water container or with the inner lining of the transparent plastic water level indicator (and thus make it hazy instead of transparent)?

Most Zojirushi water pots have a small thimble-like filter that may fall off when you dump out the water (mine did), so you may want to make sure it stay where it is supposed to when you empty your pot.

I wanted a replacement for my old Brita pitcher and I wanted something simple, without the need for fancy-shmancy batteries/electronics after all this is just a PITCHER!

This one was the one most similar to the one I had. However, unlike the one I had before, this one does not keep the lid on when there is water in the reservoir trickling through the filter. This means that you can''t use the pitcher easily while it''s refilling unless you remember to push the lid down with one hand while you pour with the other. Not doing so will result in a disastrous spill each time as the lid will slip off pouring water all over.

Not sure how/why, but the earlier version of this pitcher had a nicely designed fit that this would not happen. Had it been available, I would have purchased it.

This has worked great for me over the last several years, and I have become accustomed to the great-tasting water I get from the Brita pitcher (yes, you will be able to tell the difference!). I have begun drinking more water because it tastes better, and everyone would agree that is certainly a benefit worth my 4 stars... However, I have a (rather small) side-by-side fridge and with milk, juice, etc., etc., on the same shelf, this pitcher takes up too much room. I am currently shopping for another model of Brita filtration pitcher to replace it with a little narrower profile.

I love the classic because it is good looking and it works well. It doesn''t leak and the top doesn''t fall off if it is put on right. Match arrow, arrow to arrow. When you pour and your fingers are on the handle it is very easy to rest your thumb on the arrows on the handle/cover, offers security and a nice method of handling the pitcher.

This is a two-stage pitcher, I use it for coffee and tea and cooking.

I use a Pur three-stage pitcher for drinking water.

For looks and handling, I think the Classic Brita has it all over the Pur but have learned to live with wanting the three-stage process for some things, wish that Brita would consider a three stage filtering system.

Well our 2 older cats (Lucy & Ethel) don''t get sick often at all. For that I am grateful since I (the husband) am retired, and stuck to face whatever disaster comes while the wife is at work. But I am squeamish when it even comes to scooping their "you know what" when it is time and actually wear a gas mask if forced to do that job. I may be a USMC Combat Veteran, but I draw the line at liter boxes & Diapers! I may be brave, but I AIN''T no HERO!

My wife just bought an upright steam cleaner from Eureka since all our carpet is now about 20 years old. It was expensive carpet and we have no kids so it has worn extremely well but is still getting tired. And since I retired I keep getting into trouble for bringing in grease or oil stains after working on our motorcycles or motor scooters. No matter what I do, I am always getting into trouble one way or the other. It''s kind of like I am a 62 year old Dennis The Menace according to the wife? Well her big & expensive steam cleaner is more trouble than I will EVER go to to use and when she is done with it we sometimes have a "fair" measure of success, most often not and it even seems to expand whatever the stain by spreading it around. NOT good and once that happens, nothing we try helps.

For the record, we used to just use Resolve or other similar cleaning chemicals & do the best we could by hand. At least this way we never, EVER made the stains worse. When I saw this to try on the Amazon Vine Program I knew it would just be another gadget that would stink, leak and aggravate me more than the LAST gimmick I tried....Before I get into my trial of this machine, here are a couple things you may or may not already know. It has 5 different buttons.

1 for Fresh Surface Stains.

1 for Set IN OLDER Stains.

1 for Pause & Resume

1 for Hose Attachment

1 for "STOP"

You choose whichever chemical you desire and add water also. Press the button for whatever type stain you have after placing the cleaner over your stain. The computer on-board will do the rest! 2 different brushes move in a weird way I can only describe as a motion similar to the motion of a car motor with a rotary engine. It''s actually kind of hypnotic to watch but I was afraid to just LEAVE IT since the wife''s steam cleaner can cause so much damage...I also have to admit this is designed for smaller "spot" type stains, NOT cleaning an entire carpet so just understand while it may work well for your different type stains, NOT just pet stains, it is for localized areas, not large sections of carpet. I also have to admit that since I don''t have any pet stains but had 8 grease stains, that is what I tried this on. And it was so simple I didn''t wait for my wife to get home and tell me I am "doing it wrong!) as usual either. I had 6 of the stains that were very OLD stains. I mean over 10 years old. The other 2 fresher (maybe a month old) from the latest motorcycle servicing....

This little unit actually worked. I mean it got out ALL of the stains, all 8. I have no idea how? More important, how it does so much better than a high priced steam cleaner. Maybe it it the chemicals used (provided with this unit)? Maybe the design of the brushes, or probably the combination? I don''t know, I don''t care. I used the "tough stain'' setting which took 6 minutes to cycle through. (Easier "surface stains" only require a 3 minute cycle to clean.) I also used the hand manual cleaner to soak up some more of the wetness left after it finished. How can I NOT give this 5 stars? I never ever do until I have owned it over a year to verify it''s durability. But this surpassed our other efforts by SO much I am beginning with a full 5 stars this time. If anything changes, I always update and will do so again with this & lower my rating if needed. But given the amazing job this did on such a wide variety of stains (old & new alike), I doubt this 5 stars will ever get downgraded? Short of blowing up, or leaking & stinking like all before it, it will deserve every bit of my 5 star rating.

1st Update:

-Oh SHOCK! My wife is home and pointed out 2 more stains I missed. She says I "never see them, never will" whatever that means? Worked again on both and these are about 4-6 weeks old per my mean old wife....And I need to also point out a very important item. Even on these stains we could never get out using ANYTHING we ever tried? ALL we used was the single chemical provided called "2X Pet Stain"! Now I did set the computer at the full "SET IN OLDER STAINS" Program but never even added any of the so called Oxy Gen 2 cleaner they ask you to use for that setting. Never even needed it. This machine just keeps surprising me to no end. The cats sneak up on it to attack when it goes into it''s quiet mode. But when that mode changes and the vacuum parts comes on? They are 2 20 pounds (EACH) old lady cats on a new quest to break the sound barrier in their retreat! Fun for the whole family.....

UPDATE Much later on December 17 2011: OK, still working like a charm. I just spilled 4 beers I had just opened and not yet touched (Please, just don''t even ASK!) and knocked them all over when moving a pile of Amazon deliveries that just arrived. Spilled full 48 ounces of beer on an expensive carpet under the bar table (pub table actually). Thank God my 2 cats Lucy & Ethel LOVE beer.... They both came running from their afternoon coma''s and dove in to help. I guess they just don''t know if there will be a new treat of new disaster to enjoy when I scramble to save myself. So I dig this thing out and here we are, so much later and it still works 100% as well as always. Just need to tell you this little jewel is STILL as reliable at cleaning up as I am at making a mess. If you don''t hear from me till next year it''s probably ciz the old woman locked me in the garage again......

UPDATE, March 23 2012: Well the plot thickens. I took up home brewing with 2 new Coopers DIY 6 gallons (each) home beer brewing kits. Now i know what you must be thinking....OK, you''re right. But stuff just happens I tell ya. I mean, with all the work & transfer of fluids going on it is simply flat impossible to not spill. And I have to keep it all inside due to temperature control. Anyway, this little Bissell Spotbot may just end up in Court. No, not what you thing this time. THIS time my wife is considering legal adoption of the thing. I know it doesn''t get used every single day. Well MOST days anyway. But it does get used every week. And I have to say the old wife would never even know anything has gone wrong if it weren''t for the 2 cats ( Lucy & Ethel) who ALWAYS lead her to whatever spot I have cleaned and flat out rat me out. The fat lazy cats won''t even get up to play in their old age but they damned well LOVE to watch fireworks when they show go sniffing around whatever it is I have cleaned and then act all "innocent". Bottom line is this thing may outlive me? And according to my wife, it better....

Well this is STILL used weekly and not a single failure. Now I fail daily, my 2 cats Lucy & Ethel are old and ALSO fail daily (but the mean old wife never beats them like she does me!), and this device has saved me from continual mayhem by the wife. I am so grateful to this device. I figure I must feel the same level of gratitude that some husbands must feel when they need Viagra at this point?

I was drawn to this product because of its promise to effortlessly tackle set-in stains, of which there are several in my often-used den thanks to my cat and two-year-old. The Spotbot was pretty easy to set up right out of the box, and it came with two solution bottles. Once I started to use it on the first problematic area, I realized the limitations. It is, indeed, a SPOT bot, meaning that it can only handle a very small circular area, about six inches in diameter, during one five-minute cleaning cycle. For small stains, this is fine and the product works well. But for those of us with a larger area, or several small stains, it will take a great deal of time and effort to use the Spotbot. The two bottles that came with the product were completely used up after three cleaning cycles.

I last used the Spotbot about two weeks ago, and before writing this review, I revisited the spots since, according to the paperwork, it could take as long as 72 hours for the cleaning fluid to work its magic. While those three circular areas were much cleaner than before, I noticed that the circular pattern in my carpet was still there two weeks later and the carpet was pretty hard and crusty in those spots. And this was after I followed all of the instructions, including an initial vacuum pass before starting the cleaning cycle.

I was very happy to recieve the Bissel Spotbot cleaner as I''ve had some extremely stubborn organic BUT not pet-based stains in my carpet.

(Though I''m glad I do have it for when we do get a dog in the near future.)

The stairs and the area around our TV are the most difficult areas to keep up with spot cleaning due to foot traffic, frequency food and drink spills, and awkwardness of reaching many of the stains.

I normally use an Earth-friendly spot spray that generaaly does a good job if I get to the stain quick enough, but as I said I have some very stubborn areas.

The day the Spotbot arrived, I immediately set it to work on an area on the stairs.

NOTE: read ALL of the instructions before starting AND make sure the cap on the HOT water tank is secured properly before putting the tank in place or you''ll have a spillout like I did.

The Spotbot is super easy to use, but not brainless.

Back to the stairs...

I considered using the hands-free option, but given the location of the spots I couldn''t. The manual option worked very well, though.

So well in fact, I got moving around to every annoying stain area that came to mind (including stuff that was here when we moved in 5 years ago) and the Spot Bot dealt with it all.

I have to add that I think it''s rather user friendly if you use it mindfully while you have a baby crawling around. And though I think the solutions are pet and kid fiendly as they say, I woyldn''t use this in an area where baby will soon play.

Overall I was EXTREMELY pleased with my experience (except for how darn noisy the thing is...like ten times more than my hair dryer). So much so that when some red wine was spilled on our cream carpet over the weekend I didn''t spring up to deal with.

It pains me to have to give this product only 2 stars.

I originally bought the Pet Spot Bot in 2003 I believe (may have been 2004) at a Linens and Things. I loved the unit. It was a miracle come true for one who owned 7 cats at the time. The unit cleaned perfect, worked great and I had no complaints. Over the years our extremely hard water here (for those of you who know how to rate hardness, we are about 112 grains! YES for real. With the softener we have we end up with about 15, but that is still exceedingly hard) destroyed the unit. It was caked with buildup and clogging from the calcium and iron. It finally died in the spring and I decided I had to get another. I bought the next on Amazon. When it arrived I noted it had undergone a few changes. Namely it felt a lot cheaper and the unit look cheaper. The plastic was all thinner and more flexible and the containers were a lot thinner and I noted that the new units are made in China, unlike my original unit. I shrugged it off and decided that with the new unit I would ONLY use distilled water. The first use was good, and it cleaned very well. In fact it seemed to clean well each time, except not the unit was leaking from the bottom somewhere. So I exchanged it. The next unit did the same. It would clean well, but leave a good sized puddle behind, and God forbid you leave the cleaning fluid dispenser in the unit as it leaked ALL the liquid out in less than 24 hours. So I contacted Bissell about the problem and they said they never had this issue before. (I have a hard time believing that) They exchanged it for me again and I received the new unit a couple months ago. Initially it worked fine and no leaking, but every time I use it it leaks more and more. This morning I had to use it to clean up a spot where one of our (now 5) cats (who is ill right now) threw up on the carpet. It cleaned it very well, but when I lifted the unit up when it finished there was a 4 inch wet spot where the back of the unit sat. I used a rag and the unit itself to suck the liquid from the carpet. It has also been leaking when it sits in the utility room between uses, so now I take the cleaning fluid tank out of the unit and place it in the utility sink when not in use. I also clean out the waste tank every time I use it.

Generally it still works well, you simply need to clean up the pebbles it leaves behind.

Bissell, if you guys actually read the reviews here, how about fixing the new version of this unit? Why did you have to make it so cheaply now? If/when I find another brand unit that cleans well and does not leak, the Spot Bot will end up in the garbage. Till then, the benefits of it out weight the bad points.

---UPDATE FROM NOVEMBER 30th 2010---

Well, the replacement Bissell had given us is officially going back to them again for replacement! If you use the hose and manual mode, the unit decides it will empty the entire water/cleaner chamber out of the automatic nossle under the unit. The ENTIRE tank just empties into the carpet, leaving a huge soppiung wet area on the carpet! I am very angry with Bissell at this point. Speaking with them I explained how many complaints are on Amazon for a leaking issue and wanted to know why they do this. They avoided the question, so I reasked. They avoided it again, so I reasked. THey avoided it and I said "Please stop refusing to answer my question... A lot of Amazon Reviews claim the same issues. There is obviously a problem. Are you aware of the quantity of reviews and is there a known issue?" Finally she said "We know of no problems with this product. It functions well." What a load. Well, my 3rd unit will be replaced by them now. *sigh* If you are looking at this product to buy, carefully read the reviews and give it a lot of thought.

---UPDATE FROM January 17th 2011---

I received the replacement in late December, but had not had a chance to use it till this weekend. This time they did not send me a new one, but a referbished unit. Okay, I suppose I could live with that, but thought the original purchase was 6 months ago, we have spent the entire time fighting eith broken units. The issye I had was that they sent me a referbished Green Unit, not the Pet. Beyond that, the referbished unit was also broken. The ONLY button on the unit that works is the "manual start" button! So I called them again this morning and this time requested to speak to a manager. When I questioned why I received a referbished unit I was told that it is policy if the unit was bought over 3 months ago. I explained that the original was bout, then 2 months later they had to send a new unit to replace it and then 2.5 months later this unit. I was told it is 3 months from the "original purchase date". I explained I have yet to get more than a few uses out of it and I wanted a NEW unit. They decided to do this for me. I then asked why I recieved the "Green" machine not the Pet and I was told that they are actually the same unit, just a different color and wording on the unit. (What the hell? So bissell charges MORE for the same unit if you get the ''Pet'' unit???)

So now I wait for the shipping tags again so I can send in this "green" unit and get a NEW Pet unit (which by admission is the same as the Green except for the name and color). Once I get it I''ll add to this review again.

I have had the NEW replacement unit for 2 months now. THey have done a complete overhaul on the unit and it is different in shape and size now. I like the new look more. It worked great through 12 cleanings. Today our senior cat has a problem and I had to do a lot of cleaning on the carpet. After 7 continuous cleanings this morning, the unit made an odd "pop" sound and no more suction. If you turn it off and then back on you get suction again, but after 20 to 45 seconds it makes a "pop" sound and loses all suction.

That is it. I have had it with the Bissell SpotBot. The original unit from 8 or 9 years ago was great and well build and worked like a champ. The new and cheaper made units are just not worth it. I''ll call Bissell again in a few days and get ANOTHER replacement, but I''ll sell it on eBay right away. I need to find a DIFFERENT manufacturer who makes a hand held cleaner or unit like the SpotBot now. I have given up. If I could give it ZERO stars out of 100 I would.

I have never written a review on anything before, but this machine is AMAZING. I have an older cat who has "intestinal issues". I use this thing every day sometimes up to 5 or 6 times a day (to get all the big and little "issue" spots). Going on 7 years and still working strong. We''ve had to send the machine in for maintenance in 2011 since it stopped working. Essentially $250 covers the maintenance and shipping. They replaced some critical parts and returned the machine in solid condition. Still strongly believe this is normal for anything mechanical and am still very pleased with the product. Heck, don''t think we can get 7 years out of anything today.

We''ve had the S9 for over 5 years now. The customer service is pretty good when you have a maintenance question. Makes the most of a good coffee bean by ensuring you get a hot espresso with a lot of real crema. Use strong non-oily beans for the best coffee in the world. Brands I have used include Intelligentsia, Lutz, Kimbo, Lavazza, and others. Again, stay away from oily beans. What I really like about this machine is you can make other coffee (in addition to the beans you have loaded in the machine). It has a one button function to override the beans you already have loaded and lets you add grounds to a compartment at the front of the machine. For example, I have Dunkin Donuts decaf grounds on hand for folks that want a decaf coffee. I also have decaf espresso grounds.

Keep up with the maintenance on this machine and it will take care of you. It''s pricey, so just keep up with the maintenance to get your money''s worth. The machine will let you know when it''s time to change the water filter, clean using the tablets, and de-calcify.

After having a coffee from this machine, we never go to Starbucks or any other coffee shop for coffee. Their stuff will not compete. Maybe over 5 years, we broke even on this machine by the $$ we saved by not spending 4-5 bucks on double lattes. Good luck with your choice.

We had a horrible experience dealing with Jura Capresso customer service.

After buying a $1200 Jura Capresspo F8 machine and using for 3 years, we had to fix it once (paid additional $230), a bit less than year later we started suffering water leaks now. So we claled in to ask for a repair with no charges, and after long conversation essentially my wife was told by MR Rodriguez (lead CS @JC) in a very disrespectful manner that if "we did not like it, we''d better buy another machine/brand" or pay the @230 for another fix.

So, now we''re following MR. Rodriguez (from Jura Capresso CS) advice and we''ll probably buy a Gaggia Brera (or any other brand) cause we do not want to deal with Jura''s horrible customer service ever again.

I spent hours researching Automatic Espresso machines. After reading the specs and reviews, the S9 seemed like it was the Gold Standard of espresso machines. But is it?...

I used the machine for an average of 2-4 espressos per day.

ConstructionEverything you see and touch on the machine is plastic except the cup warming tray on top of the machine, and the tray under the espresso/coffee cup. For over $2,000 I think everything that looks stainless...should be. The machine itself is heavy so there must be metal inside.

Foamthe foam produced with the foam attachment is sub-par. Although not large, the foam bubbles are not micro. As the nozzle is used over time (approx. 3 months), you will notice the bubbles become progressively larger. Dis-assembly and cleaning helps but they are still too large. I believe the machine does not produce adequate steam pressure to make "coffee house" style foam. You will not be making any foam designs with this machine!

SteamAs mentioned, it''s not sufficient. It''s slow to produce.

CoffeeThe coffee is not drinkable. No matter what settings are used it just tastes like watered down bitter coffee. Almost any $20 drip coffee maker is better. If I included the coffee quality in the rating, it would have to drop one more star.

EspressoI could not adjust the grinder to a setting much smaller than medium because of a design fault. If the grinder is adjusted too small (espresso size), the coffee beans will not flow. It has nothing to do with the coffee bean oil. After using the machine for 6 months, coffee bean oil did cause the machine to indicate beans must be added when there were still beans in the hopper. It is easy to rectify, just keep extra beans in the hopper. After adjusting the grind size to medium, it works. It uses more beans than it should but, I love the espresso! I am spoiled now. I can''t drink regular coffee because I love latte''s from this machine. This is why my rating on the machine is higher than 1 star.

ElectronicsReally cool. This machine indicates when it needs cleaning, beans, water, descaling, old grinds removed etc. It comes with a 1 time use stick to test water hardness. Once i set the hardness the machine indicates when it needs to be decalcified. All steamers need this done at some point. For me, it''s every 3 months. I don''t have soft water nor really hard water from the tap but I use filtered water which is a not hard at all.

ServiceWithin the first 6 months the machine quit. I followed the troubleshooting guide in the book without positive results. I called customer service, they sent me a shipping box with return postage. I didn''t pay for any shipping to or from New York. I''m in California. They said they refurbished the machine. All Free! That was great customer service! Within 2 months steam progressively got worse and worse with less and less steam until finally it didn''t foam at all. And it began leaking. Mostly it leaked into the coffee tray but sometimes it leaked under the tray. My mistake was waiting. I did not want to do without my latte for 6 weeks again. Because it was now outside the 1 year warranty period, I had to pay $275 to have Jura fix the problem they created with their repair! I argued with the service person to no avail.

MiscellaneousDue to the "duel heating element" I thought I could make one espresso while I steamed milk. Not so. The machine will only allow one function at a time. The machine is loud! People have to yell for me to hear them when speaking in the same room.

ConclusionI do not recommend this automatic espresso machine. I doubt any automatic machine will match the local espresso house''s manual machine. For the almost $3,000 I paid for the machine, I should have bought a cheaper manual machine and spent the rest on a mini vacation.

Update: The machine is now about 3 yrs old. It quit again. The fancy electronic brain is telling me the tray needs to be emptied even though it was just emptied. Of course the machine is out of warrantee and after sending it back for repairs 2 times already, I''m done! Customer service says I need to return it again for "refurbishing". I am not spending another $275 to have them "refurbish" the machine again. I just did it 6 months ago. Their "refurbished" warrantee is only 3 months. That''s a rediculous joke! You may have figured it out, I am not happy!

New Update: I talked to a "Jura Capressi Guru" I found on the internet. He said to clean the electric tabs in the back of the waste tray with soap and a toothbrush. It worked! I''ve got my machine working again. Why couldn''t customer service make the suggestion. Maybe they wanted another $275?

I have used capresso coffee makers for 10 years, starting with the basis C1000. The quality of the coffee is outstanding. I have had the impressa S9 for about 7 years. My problem is the repair record.

My husband and I average 6 cups of coffee per day for the two of us. I follow the maintenance instructions scrupulously, i.e. change the Claris filter and use the cleaning tablet on schedule.(I might add that the filters cost $16 and need to be changed monthly. I also use filtered water.

However, on a yearly basis there is a function failure of one kind or another and I need to send it to the factory in Closter, New Jersey. The flat rate for the Impressa is $275. The warranty on the service is for about 60 days. I have been unable to find a local repair service that will repair it. The last minor function failure was about 5 months ago and it was returned to my home within 4 days after I mailed it. This tells me the repair is limited to the particular problem and there is not a general inspection for further potential problems. Now, 5 months later< I am getting a "Malfunction 4" message and I am unable to make coffee. The response of the company? You guessed itthe fee will be another $275.

I decided to give up on my beloved Impressa and find another product.

These are fantastic machines. I''ve had 2 Capresso Superautomatics over the past 8 years. The first was a used one that we had for about a year before it had to go in for service, we sold it three years later when we moved. The second, our Impressa S9 is about 4 years old now. We purchased it new and it''s never been in for service. We make 2 4 Cappuccinos/Lattes daily.

The Good: Easy to use, setup is easy. I suggest reading the S9 review on Coffee Geek to get an idea of how you want to setup your machine, depending on what drinks you create most often. The machine has many adjustments and the default factory settings may not get you what you expect. The machine warms up quickly and can be programmed to come on automatically, so it will be ready when you walk into the kitchen. It holds a lot of water and a fair amount of coffee beans. It has a bypass for the coffee so that you can put in your own ground coffee for such things a decaf or if you''re trying different beans or using an external grinder. Brew temperature is excellent and consistent.

The Neutral: It does require regular maintenance; empty the grounds, empty the water tray, clean the grounds from within the machine (we do this once a week), cleaning the brew groups with the special tablet (usually once a month), changing the water filter and descaling (usually every 2 3 months). The good news is that many of these tasks are automated.

The Bad: It takes a lot of trial and error to get the taste that you want. The coffee puck size is smallish (46mm, vs. around 54mm on most professional machines), the brew time is too fast (13 15 seconds vs. ~25 30 seconds on a professional), the path from the ground coffee to the brew head is too long (i.e. what you just ground will show up in the 2nd or 3rd cup), there is no way to turn off the pre-infusion. Getting micro-foam for your cappuccino takes practice.

That said this machine will produce an excellent espresso, cappuccino, latte, etc. if you''re willing to experiment and set it up to suit your taste.

There are numerous comments in the other reviews here that I''d like to discuss.

Customer Service: Don''t know what people are expecting. You wouldn''t expect a new car if you had problems once your warranty is up? Our experience is that they are excellent; they do a thorough job and provide you with a machine that''s been thoroughly tested. Yes, if you only needed to clean the contacts on the drip tray the $375 is pricey but they don''t know that they go through the entire machine. This is about as good as Customer Service for a Consumer Product gets. DIY parts and instructions are available, google buessert.de, you can purchase parts however, you''ll need special tools, have excellent manual dexterity, and a lot of patience.

Maintenance: You''ll need to follow the regular drip tray emptying, grounds emptying, removing extra grounds from inside the machine, Keep the drip tray contacts clean, the regular internal cleaning cycle with the special tablet, and regular water filter changes. Not difficult, but does require effort.

Beans: We''ve tried many, many different coffee beans. Anyone who says they can''t get a good espresso or cappuccino hasn''t explored enough beans (or varied their setting per coffee geek). Because of the limitations listed above, the beans that give you good results will be different than what your local Barista uses. Our favorite, and what we think works best in this machine are the Intelligentsia Black Cat Classic Espresso beans but big CAVEAT not the ones sold on Amazon, buy directly from intelligentsia otherwise you''ll probably get beans that are anywhere from 4 weeks to 3 months old. Buy directly and get beans that have been roasted within the last few days yes, it makes a difference. Our second choice, are the Lavazza Pienaroma, and yes these will be older beans but we think brew a decent cappuccino. If you have oily beans, you should not be using them in this machine, they are over roasted, and they will tend to clog up the machine as they will stick in various places remember the ground coffee moves through the machine by gravity. You''ll need to pay much closer attention to where the grounds are accumulating and make sure to wipe them away. We only use the finest grind setting and really wish there was one finer setting.

Water: Many folks indicate that they are using bottled water or filtered water. That''s great and good water will help. The machine is sensitive to the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in the water (Amazon sells a number of TDS meters you can use to test your water) and the filter will remove much of those as well as many other things in the water. RO water will typically have TDS in the 5 10 ppm range and will not leave behind much residue inside the machine. If you have this, you can probably use a single filter for several times and just rinse it when the machine says to change the filter. If you have water that''s above about 40 ppm (that''s most of us, including bottled water users) you''ll need to change the filter and run the descale program regularly. Our water is whole house RO and typically has about 80 ppm TDS (need this to keep from dissolving our copper pipes) and we typically keep a filter for two cycles, and then replace it.

Foamed Milk: It''s difficult to achieve good microfoam, but not impossible. The frothXpress Plus system will typically not do a good job at this, it''s better for warming the milk. Manually frothing milk can achieve adequate results. The biggest variable we''ve found is the milk. If you''re not getting reasonable results try different milk. Typical 2% major store brand bought milk does not do a good job for us. We usually end up with milk from smaller Dairies. Google "Scott Rao steam milk" and watch his video and practice with water and a drop of soap until you get it. Then you have a fighting chance. It''s easy to achieve big bubbly frothy milk but that''s not what you want.

Temperature: I see a number of complaints about temperature in the reviews. The espresso comes out at a pretty constant 194º F if you''ve set the temperature to the "hot" setting that''s too hot to drink without scalding your mouth. But you''re getting like 1.5 ounces of liquid from an espresso shot and then if you''re making a cappuccino, another 3.5 ounces of milk at 150º F. If you''re putting this into a cold ceramic cup, yes it will be tepid; all the heat will be going into heating up the cup. You''ve got to pre-heat the cup before you add the coffee. Fill your cold cup up with hot water from the tea portion and let it warm the cup, then discard the water and make your drink you''ll have a very hot cappuccino. The frothXpress Plus system produces heated milk that''s in the 150º F range and manually frothing the milk you can go up as high as you want, which will scald the milk. With the frothXpress Plus system it''s very important that the top on the container is in tight and the small hole in the lid is the only place where air can get in, otherwise you will not get good results. So I''m not sure why folks are getting cold drinks.

If you''re willing to spend some time and setup your machine (and for this kind of money, you should) you''ll get a very acceptable espresso/cappuccino. But you do have to read the manual and experiment. I hope this helps some folks out and sheds some light on some of the issues described in other reviews.

I''ve been using InstaPure faucet water filters for many, many years and I loved the way they work.I was using the F2 models and now that I switched to the F5, the filters only last a month. I bought this item for filtering water for homebrewing. My water is pretty good already (Chicago), so I primarily wanted to get rid of some of the chlorine. But I didn''t want to spend a bunch of $$$ on an expensive system for occasional use. The reviews for Instapure models were the best of the bunch compared to other manufacturers.

Shipping was unexpectedly poor for Amazon, with just a shipping label slapped on the display box. Although the box was a little battered, the unit was fine an all pieces intact.

I attached the unit to a utility sink faucet with male hose threads. This required a quick trip to the hardware store to get the proper adapter, which I expected. It is important to pay attention to the manual, since there are plenty of washers and standard adapters included. Careful assembly equals no leaks.

The overall quality of the unit is good, with tight-fitting parts and durable construction. Switching the filter on and off is easy. Slotted fittings means the filter will not spin around on faucet, which I like.

Side-by-side tasting of filtered and unfiltered water showed a marked improvement with filtering. Beware that the filtered water comes out considerably slower. Not a big deal for a glass of water, but significant when filling a pot with gallons of water like I did. Probably similar for all filters of this type, just gotta have patience.

Rating lost a star due to poor shipping. It may lose more stars if performance of the filter degrades sharply with more usage.

ZeroWater ZD-023 23-Cup Water Dispenser and Filtration System

I did quite a bit of research before purchasing the ZeroWater ZD-023 Dispenser/ Filtration System. After 6 weeks of use, it performs like a champ, and I''m still on the first filter. I''d guess I''ve filtered something like 30 gallons, and it still reads 000 ppm on the included TDS meter. My water is from a private domestic well, untreated, and meters on average 220 from the tap.

I compared bottled water from the supermarket. Their "spring water" metered at 065, the store "distilled" at 008. Nearby distributed water system treated water metered at 280. A local business imports their water in large jugs, and they allowed me to check it. "Drinking water" metered at 070; reverse osmosis distilled at 002.

Minimum EPA standards are 500 ppm; New Mexico state requires no more than 1000.

So there are some baselines. My ZeroWater system performed very well. The taste is fine.

The most negative review here didn''t mention quality of incoming water, so I found it less than helpful.

Pros of the ZeroWater unit:

* A limited-time $15 rebate made the larger unit far cheaper than the pitcher. Plus, nothing on Target''s shelves (sorry, Amazon, this time I wanted to actually see and compare products) could match the price.

* Quality of water after filtration, as mentioned.

* A helpful 1-800-503-2939 customer service number. Two of my questions were answered in short order.

* I was told all ZeroWater units take the same filter, so the part interchangeability is a plus.

* Small numbers of filters run about $15 each. A gallon of store distilled runs about 96 cents with tax. With that math, the ZeroWater filter pays for itself at about a 16 gallon breakeven. I would guess you''d get at least 50% more from the filter, depending on your water, effectively bringing cost down down to 64 cents in this scenario.

* The ZeroWater convenience factor is harder to measure. Put it this way: a gallon of water weighs about 8.3 pounds. Do you really enjoy hauling that from store to car, then car into home?

* ZeroWater encourages recycling. There''s a form on their website which you can print out, enclose with your shipped-back filter, which will then give you $10 toward purchase of other ZeroWater products. This includes new filters, of course. Your shipping cost is more than covered.

* In winter, I use a fair amount of water in a vaporizer. In this application, using distilled water keeps the vaporizer clean, and avoids the need for de-scaling/ cleaning with the toxic chemicals the manufacturer recommends.

Possible cons:

* The spigot is a spring-operated design with an O-ring seal. I would guess this would be the only part which might fail, possibly creating a leak. However, I would also guess the spigot could be replaced a a reasonable cost from ZeroWater.

I highly recommend this product. I have yet to be disappointed with any of its features.

I usually don''t write negative feedback on products, but when I was doing my research, I did not find a review to deter me from buying Zero Water, so I hope this helps someone else not make the same mistake I did.

I Just got off the phone with Zero Water, I explained that we bought this item 2 weeks ago and the water already tastes weird. We did the test and it read 650ppm, our tap water is 450ppm! She said that due to the fact that we live in an area that has such a high number, we will likely have to change the filter every two weeks. My family consists of myself, my wife and our newborn baby, so we really weren''t putting any strain on the filter.

Before you buy this product, go to their website, check your areas PPM/TDS number, if it is above 250, then this is not a good option as you will constantly be replacing the very expensive filters.

I will say that when we first bought it, the water tasted great. However, had we known we would be replacing the filter so frequently, we would not have purchased it.

I am a very happy Zero Water customer. My family and I love the taste of the water and since it comes out of a blue pitcher we all call it "blue water". The water is great tasting, and according to the water tester included, the cleanest water as well. You cant beat zero! We were so happy with the pitcher we just upgraded to the new 23 cup version. We now can enjoy the great taste and do not have to fill the pitcher as often. The spout on the new pitcher allows us to pour the water and not have to take the pitcher out of the refrigerator.

Get this and drink clean water!

I''ve been using a zerowater pitcher for about a year. Just got this larger dispenser and couldn''t be happier. So much easier than buying bottles and the water is much cleaner and healthier (I add mineral drops to make it perfect). I am sensitive to Chlorine and Fluoride so zerowater makes me feel much better.

Most bottled waters are not nearly as pure as zerowater and contain chlorine, fluoride, or some of both. Lots of companies even add the fluoride after getting it clean. Maybe some people want it, but I don''t. Of course bottles are a bad solution anyways, since the plastic chemicals can get into the water, and the bottles themselves create a lot of waste.

Not everyone needs to avoid chemicals in their water like I do, but everyone can enjoy drinking clean water. With this dispenser you can even cook with clean water. I drink the water cold, heat it in my electric kettle for tea, and make soup, all with perfectly pure water.

Just as a note, another reviewer mentioned using a PH test kit for a swimming pool. That test is not useful for drinking water. Typically pure water has a PH of 7, while your pool should be more alkaline (7.2 7.8 usually). So, an "acidic" result actually is further proof that the water is pure and below the test kit''s range. Tap water tests more alkaline due to dissolved salts/minerals as well as chlorine, fluoride, etc. Because PH is a logarithmic scale, it would be completely normal to require large quantities of more alkaline water to raise the PH of pure water into the range of tap water or pool water.

My title above explains some of the confusion people have about this product. This product removes MORE and does MORE things than other similiar brands products even though they may look a like.

This is why the filters may not last as long as other similiar products but would you rather cleaner more healthy water and have to change the filter more often or do you want to save a couple dollars and get less filtration and less healthy water? If your buying a water filter I am guessing you want the cleanest water you can get and thats with this product.

Also a lot depends on the water quality in YOUR area and HOW MUCH you drink daily so some may only get weeks as their local water is so bad and some may get months as their local water is better. Read some of the reviews here and its shocking how bad the water is in some areas.

If this filter clogs after only 3 weeks don''t think of that as a bad thing and buy another brand that might last longer, think of it as a great thing as all that junk would be IN YOU if not filtered with this product. That other product might last longer and its due to it''s not filtering for the same things or as much.
