Keurig K-Cup Home Brewer

I bought this Keurig after I had coffee at my sister''s house. The coffee maker I was using at home was your standard traditional one but I found that I kept wasting coffee and then the grounds would go stale. It wasn''t a right fit maker for me. So, I bought this Keurig. The machine seems to take a longer time than my sister''s (whose was more expensive) but it''s fine. The reservoir on the left is handy because it means you don''t have to fill up water every time you make a cup. I find that I need two Keurig cups for a full large mug full of coffee but I knew that going in. All in all, if you drink the occasional cup, or want a variety of flavors, I would recommend this one to you.

My mom bought me this coffee maker for my birthday and I am in love with it. Granted, this the first and only Keurig coffee maker I have had, it does everything it should. And it makes excellent coffee. I can have a warm cup of fantastic-quality coffee in about a minute, start to finish. I have had it for about 3 months now and haven''t had any problems at all. I am planning on buying one for my mom for Christmas.

We have had it less than three months. We have to descale about once a week. Our water has 1 gram of hardness. Almost perfect. They have sent new water reservoir (which by the way Keurig has great help line). But, honestly for the money the Mr. Coffee is better. You just have to add the water each time. But it works each time. It is very hard to get a consistent full cup of coffee out of this Keurig machine.

Sight glass wrapped in paper and zipped in Baggie. Ok. But in same shipping box with PF-4 heavy filters. With a single sheet of brown paper crumpled in shipping box to cushion between the two.

Arrived undamaged but buggers if I can figure out how it survived tumbling with the filters!

Also one black flexible washer ok and one rigid white plastic with green felt? On the other side not ok. Put black washer inside and plastic washer outside. Spigot leaked in a steady stream. Sigh.

Took white flexible cone washer from original spigot that came with Big Berkey and replaced the plastic one. Spigot now does not leak.

I suggest you take the white/green plastic washer that comes with the sight glass and bite it, hammer it, fling it, anything just anything but put it on your spigot assembly.

Sight glass is great and I feel essential to the Big Berkey. Except for that cursed plastic washer.

I ordered the Big Berkey and then added this. Unless you have xray vision this beats lifting the top off to see what''s going on in the bottom. The the threaded nipple is way too short for the money, the nut barely fits on and I can see the possibility of stripping the threads. The stock tap has a nipple almost 1/2" longer. I remember that with the original spigot, flow was slow because it was so small. This is way bigger, even when it''s the size specified for your particular Berkey (mine is the Big one). There are fewer issues with leakage than with the original spigot. Just be sure not to tighten the nut too much or too far along the bolt, because the washer will get completely squeezed out of place. I guess if I could offer advice, I''d say once contact is made, tighten until you see the washer move and then unscrew a couple turns until it''s back to normal (you have to overtighten a bit in order to see what''s correct). Also, the internal thread of this spigot is much, much shorter than the original, which worried me at first, but once everything is in place, just don''t worry. The plastic is strong, and the sight glass itself is made of steel and glass, very good quality.

So, flow is much faster and it''s convenient not to have to lift the top reservoir to check water levels in the bottom reservoir every few hours.

Interestingly, the top of the sight glass is open, so that if you have a full bottom reservoir, a little water spurts out the top of the glass. It only happened once when I plopped the top down too hard. (At the beginning I used to compare the sight glass reading with the actual water levels, but have since stopped disturbing everything to check.)

Another great Berkey investment. As I said in my review for the Big Berkey, it was the best $300 I''ve ever spent.

Of course we can''t know how things would be WITHOUT this air purifier, but it seems (to me) to be helping. I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and I''m doing better. Now, we''ve also recently moved out of a mold-infested home, BUT we now have attached neighbors who smoke, and it''s difficult to get away from plastic odors, etc. etc. I feel that this purifier helps. The science behind it also makes sense. I also like the feature where you can turn it down so it''s still working but it''s not as loud. Even at the highest "setting," it''s not obnoxious--like a very small fan noise, I think. It''s also very easy to move, etc., with its nice top handle and not-too-heavy design. The circular shape also makes sense to me (to circulate the air), and it''s reasonably "nice looking" in our living space.

setting up my AllerAir it explains that the slowest

quietest speed is also the most effective.

This relates to the comment thread here about noise.

WHY would the slowest quietest speed be the most effective?

If I understood it correctly, it is because it causes the air

moving through the filter to "linger" (or move much slower) through

the carbon filter area (the most critical aspect of the entire machine,

is the carbon or charcoal as this works in gas masks in chemical warfare

even).... so it seemed to explain the SLOWER the air moved through the

machine the more absorption of pollutants by the charcoal/carbon whatever.

Why use the HIGHER SPEEDS THEN? As I understood it, they recommended

the higher (louder) speed settings when you need move a lot of air from

the room through the filter quickly, like a smoke filled room, or when you

first set it up in a really dusty or "chemically" room... so while it''s

moving faster through the filter and getting less effective absorption, it''s

still functional as the need in those situations is to get at "all the air in

the room asap"... and then, they recommend, you turn it down to the slowest

(and it so happens super quiet) setting.

anyway, i think that''s what i read and have been using the machine accordingly.

Again, i do not own this particular Tube model but i''m very interested in getting

one though for a smaller loft area.

The fact one reviewer said they put it in their car!!! while driving and used

the cigarette adapter, really caught my attention. If that reviewer sees this

and cares to add more, i''m VERY interested as i have Chemical Sensitivity Disorder

and it makes automobile travel a very sickening experience.

By the way, the AllerAir 5000 Vocarb that i have seems to work awesome.

I''ve had it for years. Replacing the charcoal every number of years seems

expensive, but i think it''s well worth it as that''s what the entire thing is

about... the carbon or charcoal. the pre-filter and hepa filters components

of the AllerAirs are nice also... but not as radical as the carbon or charcoal which

is THE thing that removes chemicals... the prefilter and hepa filter

are for dust and particulates...

It''s very straightforward in that it''s just large amounts of activated charcoal/carbon

like in a gas mask. No gimmicks. Someone mentioned plastic smell, which is unusual (i hope),

especially as that''s another aspect, at least of my AllerAir Vocarb, (and i thought

ALL their units), is that it''s virtually ALL metal construction, and they specifically

boast on that regarding chemical sensitivity and the irony of many air filters made out of plastic.

I''ve been a previous owner of a faucet mount PUR filter that lasted for over 4 years before it finally broke. I purchased this particular model thinking that it would also last, but I was disappointed. A couple of months later, it deveolped a hairline crack just below the filter indicator. I thought I just might have accidentally hit the housing, so I purchased the same model again. Well, this same crack appeared, and now I have contacted P&G. I am seriously thinking of purchasing a different brand.

So this is my second PUR water filter mount. Both were this same model. Right out of the package they work great. It''s not entirely necessary as our water is already clean out of the faucet, but it does remove any particulates that may reside in the distribution piping and home piping, as well as removing the chlorine residual that is in most tap water. After about a year, coincidentally just as the one year warranty expires, the valve that bridges between the faucet and the filter begins to degrade. Now even when the filter is turned off, water still flows through the valve and through the filter thereby dramatically decreasing the lifespan of the filter since water is always flowing through it. This is a POOR engineering design that should have been addressed by this company. This is the reason why I''m giving it one star. I figured my first filter was just a fluke, but this problem was confirmed yet again on my second filter.

My recommendation:

1) Go for a faucet mount that you don''t have to physically turn to activate. I feel that the repetitive action of turning this up and down multiple times a day leads to premature fatigue of this product.

2) Don''t worry so much about ancillary features like lights, etc. The filter is what you should be concerned about since this is what is polishing your water.

3) Look for NSF Certification. NSF 42 is for aesthetic effects. Even better is the NSF 53 is for removing health related contaminants. NSF 58 is for reverse osmosis filters which removes even more chemicals than the 53, however I feel this is a bit overkill for a home filter.

4) Go for a product that has at least a 3 year warranty. That way you don''t have to keep spending $30+/every year on the same darn product. I''m surprised that this product has a 5 year warranty when the same model in my local Home Depot only had a one year warranty.

The KX Matrikx PB1 filter has an ABSOLUTE pore size of 1 micron, which removes giardia and cryptosporidium as these guys are larger in size than 1 micron. Be careful of filters that claim a NOMINAL pore size of 1 micron as these can let 20-30% of particles greater than 1 micron through.

I was pleasantly surpised to see just how easily this filter installed on my kitchen faucet. Although I had great tasting water before its installation, I feel better now knowing that the water is "cleaner" than before. There are only two drawbacks that I see, namely, the filter often gets in the way when filling a pot for on the stove, and the replacement filters are not cheap---they each cost about as much as HALF the price of the original filter system. While the filtered water from the Pur system tastes great it just isn''t worth the hassle. After trying both vertical and horizontal styles I have given up on Pur. I have been through 5 of them and none has lasted through more than 3 filters. The unit will start leaking and spraying all over the kitchen and since it is entirely plastic there is no way to repair them. I personally have had good luck with contacting Pur. Twice they replaced the unit at no cost but the replacements broke within a couple of months. But replacing shouldn''t be the answer. I have used Pur filters for many years and I too was disappointed when my most recent model leaked as mentioned by other reviewers. I decided to try to get to the bottom of the problem. Before I describe my findings I would first like to state that this pur filter is FAR superior to the Culligan filter so highly rated on Amazon. I have the Culligan version and users have no way to know when the filter needs to be replaced. It''s replaced after a specified number of months whether one runs 10 gallons or 10000 gallons of water through it. Thats not for me. I want to KNOW when my filter needs to be replace and the Pur accurately provides users with this info. In addition, the new water switching mechanism on the Pur is MUCH more smooth and effective than the Culligan.

I decided to "like" Pur on Facebook and this is what I discovered: There are, indeed, many people experiencing leakage and complaining on the FB page. Pur is very quick to respond to this on FB. The problem centers around one of the adaptors that does not have enough threads to be effective and it leaks. Pur will replace this adaptor free of charge with a more effective model. I called in and their automated phone prompts were simple, my adaptor arrived and my Pur functions flawlessly.

According to Pur, the adaptor has been replaced but some retailers (Amazon) still have the model with the older adaptor. The new adaptor is part of the currently shipping units from Pur.

I use Amazon reviews for EVERYTHING. In this case, the Pur has gotten a bit of a black eye but it is, by far, the best low priced filter available.

I purchased this particular one for my son. After researching several single cup coffee makers, we chose this one because you can use any coffee you chose -not premeasured, expensive containers. You can make it as weak or strong as you like and use your favorite brand of coffee. It is noisy, but the unit is compact, looks good and clean-up is minimal. Now, he can have his coffee fresh when he wants it and not from a pot sitting around for hours! Perfect!

Wish I would have purchased this sooner! No more wasting coffee with the big machines for just one cup for yourself. Perfect for the single coffee drinker in the house. Takes less than 5 minutes to brew (I timed it). I also have used it for teas and hot chocolate. I love that I don''t have to buy filters anymore and the cleanup (if any) is super easy. I also like that there aren''t pods that you have to buy either. You can use your regular grounds you are used to. You won''t miss your auto-shut off feature. You just get into the habit of flipping the switch to off when you take your cup to drink. It''s not any louder than any other coffee maker. The only thing I would recommend is to pour the water into the reservoir using a measuring cup with a spout otherwise you spill water on your counter if you just use the cup. Also, I was having a problem with the machine not brewing all the water I would pour in but I quickly remedied that by running the cleaning cycle that you are supposed to do once a month which is easy to do with vinegar. Problem solved.

I''ve only had this for a week, but I really love it. It''s small, doesn''t take up a ton of counter space (which I have very little of), and makes good coffee. If I put cold filtered water in the machine, it comes out at a temperature that''s just perfect for me to drink right away. Super easy clean up just rinse out the filter basket. You do need to remember to shut off the unit, so an auto-shut off function would have been nice. But, since it only takes 3 minutes to make a cup, it''s pretty easy to make that part of the routine. This product is made with cheap plastic parts. I have nothing against plastic and understand it is good for plumbing parts because it is smooth, moldable and resists rust. What I am saying is that this product is made with cheap, thin, brittle plastic. I had to return it twice. The first time a small plastic fitting was broken. Actually I''m glad it broke before I had it entirely installed. The second time I returned it for my money back. I installed the new unit only to find it was unable to withstand the water pressure when the faucet was off. A small cheap hose would come flying off and send water everywhere. This was a part that was manufactured and assembled at the factory and nothing to do with my installation. On top of this I had to go on line to the WATTS website to get assembly instructions, the unit comes with a one page completely oversimplified instruction sheet. I recommended Amazon discontinue selling this item.

The packaging is simple and effective, and the instruction manual is clear and well printed, though definitely not needed -there''s two sets of buttons on the top, one row for power & speed and one for time delay.

At the low speeds 1-3, it''s very quiet. Speed 1 is indiscernible from ambient noise. Speeds 4 and 5 are relatively loud. However at 4 the sound fades into the background after a while, while 5 is pretty much the "I''m not here, clean the air buddy" speed -it''s very loud.

Now the real important thing is: how well does it work? My initial impression is *very good* I recently adopted a feral cat, and I''m quite allergic to him (seriously, what we''re we thinking adopting a cat?). So far I''m breathing easier, much easier.

I''ll try to update this review in a month''s time to give a long term assessment.

I ordered this product because another reviewer mentioned that it uses standard furnace filters. That is a HUGE advantage over most other filters. I gave it 3 stars because shortly after purchasing it, the lights and buttons which allow you to control the fan speed, etc stopped working. Only the power button worked and it went to the max fan speed which was very loud and could not be changed. We used it like this for a week or so, before deciding to relocate it. When we moved it the lights and control buttons magically started working again. And now are working fine despite being moved several times since.

I haven''t changed the filter yet, but it measures 15.5 x 20 inches which is the same as a "16 x 20" standard air filter. The one that comes with the unit is about twice as thick as a standard furnace filter. It might be possible to use 2 standard filters stacked together.

Other nice features:

"Delay On" allows you to have the fan come on 2-12 hours later.

"Auto Off" allows you to have the unit turn off after 2-12 hours.

5 fan speeds~ 1 and 2 are virtually silent, 5 is about the same amount of noise as a regular fan on high

I like the sleek design of this purifier, it''s not as bulky as the other two that I already have. It works great and it really does work. I have two complaints, first complaint; the scented fresheners that come with it don''t last, just like all fresheners. You snap it in the back of the unit and that first initial day it does omit a pleasant scent, however the next day no more scent. I''m glad the unit came with the cartridges, because at about $10 each you''d be buying a lot of them rip off! This is one of the main reasons I bought this particular brand, because of the scented freshener, I thought it was a great added feature, but somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew it was too good to be true, or in this case too good to last and it was! My other complaint; this unit having 5 speed settings (another great feature, I thought), where most other purifiers have 3 speeds. Usually #1 is the quietest, where #2 is a bit louder, but the highest speed #3 is obviously the loudest. On the Air Tamer with 5 speeds, one would think that the noise level at 4 or 5 would be obviously the loudest and 2 & 3 would be quiet to mild. WRONG setting 2 is quite loud for only being #2 (at that setting, it almost sounds like the #2 speed on my heavy duty, 3 speed, industrial purifier that I have). So at #3 and #4 you can almost imagine how loud it is so for that reason I usually only keep it on the first speed setting. When I''m dusting/cleaning I''ll then turn it to 5 which means I''m blarring music or the tv to drown out the sound of the purifier.

I bought this because the wife and I like the noise to drowned out the road noise buy our house. On speed 3 it works amazingly for this. It also does a great job of filtering air, but it doesn''t really move a lot of air through it. If you are buying this to clean air for allergy reason, I would not recommend it. However, in my master bedroom it provides a constant quiet noise and does a pretty good job keeping the air clean (not much visible dust in the air or on furniture)even though it is only ran on speed 3 from ~9pm to ~9am.

I have had this since October and the original filter is still working fine. As the other person stated the unit doesn''t change between model, only the filter does. A700 has a best filter and A710 has carbon as well I believe.

I am giving it 3 stars even though I am very happy with it just because I think as a air filter, there are much better out there although they tend to cost more.

The 2 stars is primarily a rating of the shipping method. When I recieved this, the package it was empty!

This arrived via USPS. The QA of the item "getting" into the package envelope was severely lacking.

The seller blamed the snafu on the ''shipping''... which was either themselves, Amazon or the USPS. In addition to the blame, I hope they might take a minute to resolving mis-packaging issues like this.

Oh well... something to improve upon!

Little bulky in the water reservoir, but small price to pay for keeping my saeco vienna plus boiler working great between descaling every 3 months or whenever boiler wamrmup time starts to fade in hot water delivery out the panarello. Filter must not be shaken or the carbon particles will fall into reservoir gentle hands are key. Still, keep your backup platic mesh cap on underneath the aqua prima just in case. Word of caution, you will lose some steam pressure. I drink black 85% of time, so I don''t care and can remove the filter when I really want strong steam. Also, something else that just may be a quirk of my machine, you will get more coffee sludge accumulating faster behind brew group. It may become a deal breaker, but boy do I hate to descale, so I am conflicted on whether to continue using the aqua prima. I may just get too annoyed cleaning the extra sludge. I will have to decide December 20th when filter swap is due.

This filter works great and I''ve never had any problems with it. It''s easy to insert in the machine and I really like the dial that

It filters the water really good and removes the chlorine odor which is really what I was after. The water comes out pure and doesn''t smell at all. However, there are two things you need to know about this filter.

First, according to the instructions on the filter, you need to allow water to flow through it for a short time to clear the carbon lines. I hooked up the hose to one end and turned the water part way on to let the water flow out the other open end of the filter, and for about two seconds the water was pure black, which was the carbon coming out upon first use. After about a minute I turned the faucet all the way on and it flowed black for another two seconds. After that, it''s been clean and pure ever since. If you don''t let water run for a few minutes at first to flush out the loose carbon and just connect the filter without flushing it, you''re going to have carbon inside your system.

Second, according to the instructions on the filter, it says do not freeze. Well, if you hook this to the outside of an RV and it''s winter time, I''m not sure you you can avoid this.

But it is a good filter that works great and I will buy more of them.

I''m using this filter with my travel trailer. Does a very nice job removing odor, and the water taste is good. Not sure about the overall filtering capability though. It has a fairly high micron passthrough. Would recommend considering price and overall performance though.

How does one review a water filter? I made several pots of coffee in my new coffee maker w/o the filter. They tasted very good. Next I inserted the filter and made more coffee. I could not detect any difference in taste. It still had the same good taste. So, either my taste buds are jaded or my unfiltered water is just as good as the filtered version or the filter is not designed to alter taste. Based on my experience the only thing I can review is the filter setup. The filter holder slides easily out of the slot in the bottom of the water compartment. The filter is simply placed into the holder which, in turn, is effortlessly inserted back into the water compartment. Not having anything else to go by I feel obligated to rate the filter a 5 due to its ease of use. However, because I have been making coffee w/o a filter for my entire adult life I will continue to do so in the future and forego the purchase of additional overpriced filters and instead buy that Lamborghini I always wanted.

I have a Saeco grinder/maker and I don''t know what a Coffee Team GS or TS is. But, these filters looked simular to the ones in my appliance and they fit perfectly. I guess the filter manufacturer won''t be responsible if they don''t fit but I just wanted those in doubt to know that they do.

Also, I don''t always want to leave the house to get one, especially for breakfast. And finally, by making espresso beverages at home I can control the ingredients and know exactly how many calories I am consuming.

This machine enables you to prepare espresso with a medium, strong, or very strong taste, using either ground coffee or pods. You can prepare either one or two espressos at a time. It also enables you to prepare cappuccinos (by frothing the milk) or lattes (by steaming it). Oddly, the recipes in the manual do not mention how to prepare a café mocha. My own method is to squirt some Hershey''s sugar-free chocolate syrup into a latte, add two packets of artificial sweetener, and stir vigorously. The manual does include helpful tips on ingredients. For example, the lower fat milk is the more froth it will produce. I''m sure you''ll think of your own favorite flavorings to add to beverages--cinnamon, brandy, whipped cream on top, or whatever.

I found the machine fairly easy to use, although it''s a bit fiddly. You need to go through several steps just to pre-warm the components and the cups. And there''s filling the water container, inserting the filter, steaming the milk, cleaning the machine after use . . . on the other hand, at the local coffee shop I just wait around while someone else does all this stuff.

This machine comes with a limited one-year warranty and an order form for parts when they need replacing, which parts are actually quite reasonably priced. Oh, and a separate copy of the manual entirely in French, should you need it.

Super easy machine for making capuccino: I make the froth in a cup and then dispense the espresso directly into the same cup. This might be blasphemy, but at 5:30am, who cares.

Cleanup: 20 seconds: I wipe off the nozzle, tap out the hockey puck into the garbage, and rinse it.

Large clear water container, easy to see how much water is left.

Cleaning the machine: I ran diluted vinegar through once so far in 6 months. Working fine. I had to clean out the brew head once, which required a screwdriver and took a couple of minutes and a paper towel.

Note on espresso strength: With my unit, the coffee seemed like it was on the weak side at first, then after about a lb., seemed more like regular strength.

Other things to like about this machine:

A snap to clean up. If you''ve used other machines you know there are usually little sprays of coffee, coffee grounds, milk, froth, etc., and grind slop to clean up after.

Water container holds enough to make many cups in a row before refilling.

The foot print is much smaller than some other similar machines, so it fits into my counter corner easily.

The manual is very thorough. When I had to figure out how to clean out the brew head, the info was right there.

The price is nice! We inherited a Barista and later purchased a Cafe Roma which are also great, but I like this system for its ease of use, crema, and tidy footprint. Also thinking this would be a nice gift, as it''ll turn out a nice cup right away. Had the unit 6 months so far, so hope it keeps up the good work.

So I had bought this machine going by a review by an unbiased espresso machine store, and they tested on a video. They sold all types of machines. So I gave this a try. After reading the reviews on amazon I was little hesitant.

When I tried the machine it worked wonderfully, and later some of the shots I pulled were weak... Similar to what others had mentioned as a con.

Unlike the latter I knew that it did well initially so the error must''ve fallen on myself, but how? I wondered. So I went online a did a bit of research and found the error lay on how I was grinding the beans. Online it said that certain machine work well with certain grinds. This particular one must be extremely finely ground, and a burr grinder would work more efficiently.

As for the complaints about the bitterness, you get a bit more bitter taste with grinding it finely, but honestly esperesso is not meant to be extremely bitter, that is the result of burnt grounds scorched under pressure, and that''s the result of a poor machine.

Do the research there''s plenty of information on the Internet and YouTube ... It is a great machine! Very easy to use at a great price.

I have owned the ''Capresso EC100'' for a couple months now. This is one of the better inexpensive "Thermo-Block" machines and is

the perfect ''entry'' level product for somebody making their own espresso the first time. Do not spend $hundreds$ on a ''wonder machine'' if you don''t know what you are doing (you will make bad coffee regardless of the product being used). It is also a perfect machine for those whose pallets aren''t ''perfect''. I have noticed that many of the negative reviews over this machine seem to be more "user error" based frustration, than an actual failure of the machine. Some espresso drinkers here may not properly know the difference between ''burnt'' & ''strong''. This is a $150 or less machine,

lets get real folks, machines that cost $2000+ do so for a reason. If you take your time and read the directions for

the Capresso EC100 and follow them accordingly, you will not be sad. For $150 there is more work involved and more

preparation, but the end result is very good. If you want automated and do not want to think, this is not the machine for you.

Pros:

*Very good espresso

Large water reservoir

Short warm up period

Easy to clean

Cons:

Steamer wand is short. Can be a pain with some ''frothing pitchers''.

Steamer is ''weak'' in my opinion. The pressure is ''meh''.

Vibration of the machine is a bit much and can ''rattle'' two cups side by side if pouring a double.

Side info:

You will need to spend a little time getting everything ''warmed'' up. Leftover grinds after steaming are "sloppy" and not the ''dry puck''. This doesn''t really seem to be an issue except for a few extra clean up steps. I put a towel under mine for cleanup purposes, this seems to also lower some of the vibration.

Makes a great Espresso/Latte/Cappuccino.. once you have figured the following:

1. Make sure you do NOT tamp the coffee too hard.

I have found that if you do tamp too hard the machine will not dispense coffee.

(For reference I use Community Coffee Dark roast, ground in store at Espresso settings)

2. Always pre-warm the machine/cups/filter.

The result is great tasting, hot coffee.

This review would have been 5 stars but I found some quality issues:

Screw at bottom of porta filter came loose!

It almost ended up in the garbage. Fixed with a dab of superglue/threadlocking compound to secure the screw in its threads.

The over pressure release at the end of a cycle causes quick filling of the drip tray.

Overall, great compact machine (small counter-space footprint), would recommend to others.

This is a very short unit and it fits under our cupboards with several inches to spare. Been using it daily for a couple weeks, now and it works fine. When I first got it, I ran some diluted white vinegar/filtered water through it and followed that with 2 or 3 cycles of just plain filtered water and the coffee tastes great! Only 2 things to mention that could be improved upon, first, they have these holes on the back of the unit to keep you from overfilling it. Nice idea for safety, but if you fill it past the holes, your countertop is going to take a bath in all the excess water as you are filling it. This didn''t happen to me, as I only make 1/2 pot of coffee at a time. Secondly, this unit (like all units I have owned) accumulates condensation under the lid and if you open it to fast a lot of water will race down the back of the unit. Open it slowly, and tap it a bit and no problem.

I had a Krupps and broke the pot. It would have cost me $23.00 with shipping to replace the pot. So I decided on this model of Mr. Coffee. Frankly, I just wanted a basic coffeemaker, no whistles and bells. Nothing complicated that required studying the book.

Just a cheap replacement. This fit the bill.

After having this Mr. Coffee for several weeks I can tell you I absolutely love it. It is a very well designed machine and the coffee tastes great too. Highly recommended. A bargain.

Although some have complained about this product lacking an auto shut off, to me that is not a big deal. At least now I have a coffee maker that keeps the coffee hot until I decide to turn it off. I don''t need some computer chip to decide for me how long to keep my coffee hot. The simplicity of the product also means there is less to go wrong. It brews a great pot of coffee. The price is very reasonable, and who knows, this basic model may possibly last longer than one of those expensive,fancy multi option models. I''ve used mine for 2 1/2 years.

It''s inexpensive.

And it still works. And I have to add I know of no really bad features (but I am not an expert in coffeemakers).

My only complaint (and it''s pretty important) is the quality of the brewed coffee.

This model has a "filter basket". I believe the ones that have a "cone" shape result in a stronger brew.

Also, the resultant coffee does not taste hot enough.

I believe that models differ in this regard, and that a hotter brew tastes better.
