I HAD TO PURCHASE THIS ITEM AT A HIGHER PRICE BECAUSE IT SEEMS AMAZON DIDN''T GET THE MEMO THAT IT WAS OK TO SHIP THIS PRODUCT TO CALIFORNIA. THE HAZ MAT ISSUE WAS RESOLVED SOME TIME AGO. I HOPE BY NEXT YEAR WHEN I WILL NEED A REPLACEMENT IT WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE LOWER COST.

Maybe it is the housing for the filter, and not the filter, but this last time I replaced the filter, it was very tough to detach. It took a lot of strength to rotate and remove the filter. The same with installing the new one. Difficult to rotate and secure into place. The filter itself, once installed, is wonderful and lasts a year, which is a long time for something that gets used a lot everyday.

Honeywell/Kaz Home Environme De-Mineralize Cartridge Dc Humidifier Chemical & Accessories
  • "HONEYWELL" DE-MINERALIZATION CARTRIDGE
  • Removes Minerals & Other Impurities From Water
  • Fits Vicks Model #V5100N

This filter, works very well with the humidifier we have, but the instructions are not clear on everything you need to do to make it work well. It has to be soaked for 15mn and then thoroughly rinsed so that it works properly. If you do not rinse it,the humidifier shoots a not very pleasant yellowish mist that fills up the environment. Other than that, it has been a very good product.

If you have a humidifier, it would be unwise to pass up using a demineralization cartridge. It saves you the headache of nasty gunk and mold that builds up in your humidifier. I agree wholehearted with other reviewers about the benefits of using this cartridge.

For the first one that I used, it lasted me about 25 or so days (or in short, I noticed little in the way of gunk buildup during that duration of time) before I felt the need to change the cartridge. My second one lasted about the same amount of time as well.

I have to point out, it is very important that you soak the cartridge thoroughly before adding it to your humidifier. For me, after taking it out of the package, I soaked it in a bowl of cold water for about 15 20 minutes before taking it out for use and so far I''ve had no problems whatsoever.

If you want to save yourself some headaches, I strongly recommend using this product in conjunction with your humidifier.

The cartridge that came with the vicks humidifier only lasted about 10 fillings (they claim 30-40). I think it would be just as cost effective (and easier) to just buy distilled water to use in the humidifier, and skip the filter cartridge.

Alive Water 7-Plate Water Ionizer

Alive Water 7-Plate Water Ionizer - AWI7.0 Under-Counter Option Available * 7 Presets * 5-Year Warranty * FDA Safe Plastics * ETL CertifiedI love this product and feel like it was a great value. One of my good friends has a Kangen Water Ionizer ($4700) which she loves -and another friend has the Athena ($2,100) that he likes. I looked around mainly to save some money .... I don''t think I would have purchased an ionizer at $4,000.

I read the info on their website and also called to ask questions about the Company. Appears they simply looked at the market, other ionizers available, and decided to design a better ionizer by taking the best of what was out there. They also added a few things like safe plastics and ETL rating which they say is the best.

Searching and comparing online I didn''t find one as good for less than $2,000 in my research. So far so good.

Here''s my review:

Pros:

1) Setup Easy. The videos which come from Alive Air were very helpful and saved time (reading the manual, etc.). The fact that they thought of this said something about this company

2) Operations control panel was easy to read

3) Price makes me wonder if most units on the market are basically the same.

4) The fact that they thought to use FDA safe plastics and get ETL rating

5) Unlike the Kangen you can put it undersink with an optional faucet. I don''t know how hard it is but they have video instructions.).

Con''s:

1) The Kangen has a nicer looking faucet attachment which clamps on/off fast

2) The music which goes on when the unit is being "auto-cleaned" is corny

3) The pH test kit which came with it shows it''s working fine to change pH.

4) I don''t know if any of the filters, in any water ionizer, do enough purification to use tap water safely. They recommended a 3 stage additional filter for anyone using a water ionizer

I use the alkaline water for my health, my plants and for cooking. I like it works great and I recommend it.

I did a lot of research on Ionizers before settling on this one. I did not want to pay several thousand for an Ionizer. I did hire a plumber to hook it all up as I am old and did not feel like I could do it properly and it took him less than an hour. It has worked flawlessly and has different settings for beginning drink water, everyday drinking water, water for coffee and tea, and cooking water. It lets you know when to backwash. I use the standard filter but there is a better one for a lot more money, if you think there might be bacteria in the water source. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star review is that I do not love objects.

My husband had been wanting a water ionizer for a long time but we couldn''t afford the thousands of dollars that most sell for. When we were doing more research on them and comparing prices along with specific details for each product, we stumbled upon the Alive Air Purifier and Ionizer website.

PROS: What sold us was not only the initial price but also the cost to replace the filters. Alive''s are around $40 each compared to the $100 or more for other brands. Also, that it is completely self cleaning. It does a rinse at the end of each use and a self cleaning process evey so many liters of water. When we received it, we also checked the water output on each setting with Alkaline litmus paper just to be sure that it was changing the alklinity as it should. Every setting tested right in the range that it stated. We also purchased the under the sink converter, which I think is nice because I don''t like a lot of things sitting out on my counter.

CONS: The only thing I would warn is that if you have the machine under the counter, you need to look at it each time before use it and make sure that it is not on the self cleaning status. It plays music when it is on the cleaning cycle, but it''s hard to hear when under the counter. It''s easy to see the difference. The machine should be lit up bright blue. If it''s time for the cleaning mode, it will be lit up bright red. Otherwise, if you don''t check it, you could get cleaning water instead of the alkaline you were hoping for.

This Summer my husbands cousin came to visit from Idaho for a few months. She brought her Kangen machine and made water for me during those months. I just finished doing chemo therapy and had broken my wrist, taboot. She gave me lots of info about the water and told me to use the internet to see if there was a machine I could afford. Well, when she left I knew within a week that I did not feel nearly as good as I had been feeling. That convinced me I needed a machine, so I started looking. This machine seemed to me to be the one that I could afford and bring me and my family back to health.

The Alive Ionizer is as good, if not better than the Kangen machine she had and paid $3,000 for. I took it to Baja Mexico with me and it was wonderful. We have to use purified water there so this was a much better idea.

I have been back on the ionized water for a month now and really feel energized. The water fills me up (keeps me from over eating sweets) and helps me to get my immune system going again. I tell everyone about it and I hope to get at least some of them to buy one. Aqua-Ionizer Deluxe 7.0 Water Ionizer by Air Water Life

Blueair ECO10 Energy-Star HEPASilent Air Purifier Save 34% Off

Blueair ECO10 Energy-Star HEPASilent Air PurifierThis is the first air purifier I ever purchased. I think the full list price of $900 is outrageous and would not have bought it at full price for what is almost a big computer case with a high quality fan and very high quality HEPA filters. However, I jumped at the chance to buy it at the 50% off sale price or $450. So far it''s working really well. It''s a bit bulky, but then all good air purifiers are because the filters need enough surface area to work properly. It achieves low power consumption largely by having a large filter area so that the air velocity can be kept low while keeping the air volume high. Low air velocity translates to lower energy consumption and lower noise.

At 10 Watts on the high setting, even if I run it 24/7, the energy consumption will be only $1 a month and my electricity rate in California is a high 14 cents per kWh.

The power switch''s placement at foot level is very inconvenient. Unless you leave the unit on for 24 hours a day, everyday, you''ll find it a chore to have to constantly bend down to access the switch.

The outside of the product''s packaging, as well as all the websites I''ve visited(including Amazon), says the filters last up to 12 months. That''s actually incorrect advertising. The manual says for "optimal use" the filters should be changed every six months. I''ve noticed the air flow decreased noticeably after 2 months of use at 12 hours a day. Furthermore, in order for the 10-year warranty to be valid, Blueair requires the buyer to change the filters every six months and to send in the registration as explicitly stated in the manual. Of course, the question is whether Blueair will require proof that the user bought new filters every six months when it comes time for warranty work. Oh, another thing, the warranty is only 10 years, not "lifetime" as the websites state, another incorrect advertisement!

The filters cost $100 per set. So if I change the filters religiously every 6 months, the filters alone will cost $200 a year, plus $12 a year for electricity. With charcoal, the operating cost will exceed $300 a year. Ouch! Also, keep in mind that this is just the operating cost for one large room (up to 300 sq. ft.) and not for the whole house.

It''s quiet enough even on high that I can sleep with it on high, and on the low setting, it sounds about as loud as a somewhat loud computer case fan and is mostly unobtrusive. The fan noise is not unpleasant. In fact, I sometimes use it on the high setting as a passable white noise machine to drown out ambient noises when I go to sleep.

The only true negative with this unit is it''s exclusively a particulates filter. It has no charcoal to absorb odor. In order for the purifier to be effective, I need to keep my bedroom door closed. When the filters were new, the air got stuffy overnight when I kept the door closed. I think it was the smell of the new filters, but after a couple of weeks, the stuffy smell went away. For those who want to filter odor, Blueair makes Smokestop filters include charcoal. The Smokestop filters cost almost twice as much as the regular Eco10 filters and are also not as readily available.

It''s interesting to note that the Eco10 has virtually the same 250 CFM rating as the IQAir Heatlh Pro and practically the same percentage particulate reduction. Therefore the two units should have about the same area coverage rating. But the IQAir claims effective up to 900 sq. feet, whereas the Blueair Eco10 only claims 300 sq. ft. with 6 air changes per hour(which is the generally recommended rate by experts). This tells me the IQAir''s capacity is overrated vs. the conservative rating of the Eco10. I tried to find the CADR rating of the IQAir but couldn''t find it anywhere. Based on the fact that the Blueair Eco10 has a CADR of about 200, I surmise the IQAir has similar CADR. I just don''t see how a 200 CADR unit can cover 900 sq. ft. Maybe that''s why Consumer Report gave the IQAir a low rating.

Summary:

Pluses: very quiet compared to other brands, very effective filtration down to 0.1 micron at 99.97% efficiency, good air flow of around 250 CFM, good CADR rating of around 200, ultra low electricity consumption.

Minuses: short filter life, very high operating costs because of short filter life and expensive filters, no charcoal to absorb odors, unless you opt for the even more expensive Smokestop filters.

Bottomline: Quiet unit and very energy efficient, BUT the energy savings will not even come close to offsetting the high operating costs associated with the frequent changes of expensive filters.

This unit does a good job with and average sized room for mild allergies. I would not use it if you have severe allergies as it does not turn over the air fast enough, only 6 times an hour. It was a good buy since it was on sale for half price.

Rolls easy on castors, power goes into bottom of unit. Intakes are easy to vac once a week as they start to get plugged up with dust.

As of this review, I have two units only for two months or less. The product is definitely quiet as promised and even on the higher speed is manageable for sleep. It''s designed to run 7x24. I can feel and smell the air moving. I can''t say whether it''s improved my children''s health (too early). A bit larger than I would prefer but acceptable. Definitely a costly gad but in this area of healtchare (where I have years of personal healthcare experience), I think the money is well spent. Check back with me in a year ;)

Want Blueair ECO10 Energy-Star HEPASilent Air Purifier Discount?

I am unsure as the build quality of other Blueair products but I can speak to the construction and design of the ECO10. It looks and feels like and old computer case with holes cut in the top, front and back. There appears to be a very small computer style fan at the base of the box. The filters seem like normal house hold air filters you could buy at any hardware store. I am shocked at the shoddy build and cheap materials used in this air purifier. I paid over $1,000 for this item and put it in my baby''s room. I feel totally ripped off. Blueair also claimed to offer a free set of filters, normally $100, if you sent the original proof of purchase in by a certain date. I complied with all of the written instructions for the free filters and have still not received them. It has been six months. No one answers the phones or returns voice messages. Maybe I should have waited until some user reviews were available before I purchased this item. It was brand new to their lineup and I took a shot.

Deep Tea Diver Loose Tea Strainer Save 42% Off

Deep Tea Diver Loose Tea StrainerIt was kind of expensive but it was so cute I had to get it. I was a bit surprised by how small it is since there was no dimensions listed under the info about the product. It is meant for one cup of tea and I was looking for something for a pot of tea. I suppose it would do well for a single serving pot of tea but I usually brew 4 cups because I drink a lot! Even though its small a lot of tea fits in there; but don''t over fill or the tea leaves wont have enough room to fully expand. Maybe its because its so cute but I could swear my tea tastes better when using the diver as opposed to the regular metal mesh ball. I wish there was a way to prevent this but even this diver is subject to tea stains. So I suspect it''ll be brownish soon. Oh, also the opening is at the feet. Be very careful about where you set them to dry. I air dry mine in the little basket in the dishwasher but once his little feet somehow slipped and disappeared into the garbage disposal for almost a week! I was devastated, and I wasn''t looking forward to buying another one. Thankfully I found out, so just beware because its clear and tiny so it can easily be lost.

If you like your teas light, this is a great infuser for you. However, strong tea drinkers may want to reconsider purchasing.

The holes are in the front and back of his body, as well as the back of his head. They''re excellent for separating small loose tea and water, but there is not enough. Therefore, creates a light tea. I''m use to a steel tea infuser that is covered with small holes front and back. I''m considering adding a bit more holes.

The silicone material is resistent to heat and holds its structure well. I''ve kept the infuser in my Thermos Sipp for about 1-2 hours numerous times at work (it doesn''t taste bitter :D). The material does not stain immediately, but overtime it may. It''s a bit difficult to take out the leaves by dumping it or tapping against the trash. TIP: face the him feet down, feet off (open the infuser) and run water through the holes in the back of his head. The water will filter the excess tea leaves out of his cute body.

TIP: Make sure his body is thoroughly clean after each use. The silicone material adheres to the previous tea if it''s just rinsed with water.

This is such a cute tea infuser and great conversational piece nonetheless! Makes a great gift or stocking stuffer during the holidays.

My husband got me this little deep tea diver for my morning tea! It is such a cute idea! I would definitely by this again to make a present. I took a star off, because, you can only put so much tea in it, since the little diver, is tiny. So it is really recommended to only use it with a normal size cup of tea and not a jumbo cup. (Review written by Nathalie, wife)

I bought this because it was really cute, but it is not very well made. The first time that I used this, the metal ring around the bottom fell off, and has fall off several times sense. Without the ring, it is impossible to keep the bottom closed. The bottom is difficult to close, because you have to maneuver the flimsy bottom into the upper flimsy silicon part. I have had my tea leaves spill out of the bottom more than once. Also, the connecting piece between the top and bottom looks like it could break with a good pull. As for getting tea into this thing, it is difficult to get tea into the dime sized hole and I end up spilling more of my loose leaf tea leaves than I end up getting into the strainer. Once the tea is in this thing, it really doesn''t have much room to expand.

I like the fact that this has the counter weight that keeps you from putting your fingers in the mug to take the strainer out. Also, it comes with a small silicon coaster that keeps the excess water off your table. Hopefully I wont lose it at some point.

tl:dr: don''t buy, not worth it

EcoAqua EFF-6007A Refrigerator Water Filter

EcoAqua EFF-6007A Refrigerator Water FilterA lot of comments about this filter costing less than other brands. Remember one thing though. AT LEAST ON THE ONES THAT I''VE USED, while the OEM filters are made in U.S.A., this filter is made in China. I''m not going to comment any further, because YOU will be drinking the water out of the filters you buy, not me.

I too wanted to save some money. But, I guess in this case you get what you pay for! Never have had any trouble with my Maytag Wide-by-Side water filtration system before. Changed filter whenever the indicate light came on. First time I used this filter I had trouble immediately. As recommended I filled several glasses and discarded. Seemed fine. But, after about the 8th glass the water stream got smaller and smaller and by the end of the day nothing. We removed the filter, reinserted it and nothing! Tried another new filter same thing happened. Now I will head off to Home Depot to buy a $40 filter that hopefully will work unless this PIECE OF GARBAGE has damaged the system!

I think these work in the very early models of Kitchen-Aid coffee makers because I can''t find them anywhere. I was pleasantly surprised to find them on Amazon of all places.

Aqua Rain Set of 4 Filter Elements

Aqua Rain Set of 4 Filter ElementsI purchased my original four-filter SS AquaRain gravity water purifier in 2001 and have been using it ever since to produce drinking water, using only our high quality city aquifer water as the source. Unfortunately the officials have contaminated the water with the forced addition of the poison fluoride, to render it into a forced mass medication of less than dubious value. I was told the filters may help remove the fluoride. After over 10 years use the output water was becoming cloudy, so I wanted to replace the filters. The new filters, although being 7.5" long, were 1.5" shorter than the originals but had the exact same U.S. Patent number along with "Marathen Ceramics". Two negatives to report. 1. The single-paper note enclosed said "Important! DO NOT overtighten wing nuts!!! Please read instructions before assembling filter. Broken elements are NOT COVERED by the warranty." However, there were no other instructions nor paper(s) included inside the delivery box! Although there was a 417 number listed on the note to call if "Have Questions?". I did not call. Hint: the rubber washers go INside the container UNDER the filters, not OUTside on the bottom, or all the water leaks out no mater how much you try to tighten the wing nuts wondering how tight is too tight when filter breakage occurs. 2. There is an added objectionable taste to the filtered water now, which I assume will eventually go away with continued use. I''ve produced maybe about 12 gallons so far. I''ll work with it.

These are significantly shorter than real AquaRain filter elements (about 2" or 50mm shorter) so less total surface area equals longer filtering time. The water does not taste nearly as clean either so I doubt the charcoal (if there is any) is not of the same density/quality as authentic AquaRain filter cartridges. Furthermore, the misleading advertisement along with the seller''s lack of communication makes me wonder if the elements contain biostatic silver like true AquaRain filters which would be a tremendous safety issue if tainted water were used in the filter. If the buyer is only trying to save money, like I (foolishly) did these are an okay value. If you are looking for high quality replacement elements producing safe/clean water, buy elsewhere.

We installed system in cabinet next to fridge made one hole in side for hose and electric cord. Don''t purchase this unit. I just bought mine and it broke. I used to have the Flojet. It lasted over a year and the water PSI was higher. Tried to contact the seller for this with no luck. I have this connected to my refrigerator for the ice and water. Great tool. I definitely wouldn''t buy this one again. At least with the Flojet it has a year warranty with the factory. This one is cheaply made and like I said broke after a month. So not worth it. Was willing to deal with the seller but no contact.

Buy Combo COM1000 Bottled Water Dispensing System Now

We recently bought a new refrigerator and moved the old one out to our detached converted garage/office that has no plumbing. However, we wanted to be able to have chilled water and ice made and dispensed. Rather than pay to run plumbing out to the office, we looked for a method that would somehow pump water out of a standard ''water cooler'' type bottle.

And this pump does the trick perfectly. As shown in the picture, the system has an insert that goes down into the bottle, has a collar that squeezes down over the neck of the bottle forming an airtight seal, and then has an on-demand pumping system that detects when the downstream system is ''open'' and asking for water, and kicks on the electric pump to provide pressurized water.

I was able to get it assembled and working in about 5 minutes, without referring to the instructions and without ever having worked with a product like this before. Part of that is because I''m semi-handy, but the larger part is because the system is very straightforward.

So, now we have cold water and auxilliary ice out in our office, with the only caveat being that we have to replenish the water jug once a month, or so. A small price to pay for the convenience and to avoid the expense of plumbing. Highly recommended.

This unit worked for a few weeks well and then progressively started to go bad. Now its only been a few months and the thing is completely dead. I probably pumped all of 2 jugs of water through it during its short life.

Don''t waste your money.

I have owned this filter for a month and I am very happy with it. The first benefit I noticed was the missing smell of chemicals as I showered. I was always aware of the smell, but I never realized how heavy the smell was until it was gone. It''s undeniable that the air smells...clean. The next few days I noticed my skin wasn''t dry anymore, and I didn''t have to apply lotion. After a week, my hair was much softer, and my itchy scalp was gone, gone, gone. So far, I''m a believer in this product.

If I was going to name one con, it''s that the water pressure was affected a bit. However, for me, the pros outweigh this one con. I''d rather have the softer skin, and cleaner air than maximum water pressure.

You don''t even know it is there. It does lower the water pressure, but the filter is worth it!

I love this product for its looks and for what it does.

It seems to clear the chlorine smell along with the resin of the water softener.

My only gripe is that the flow is reduced just enough to tick me and my wife off.

I have been suffering from a nasty skin itch for over a year and I thought this might help eliminate some of the factors in my water.

I am glad I bought this product and you can clearly tell the different when the filter is off. I highly recommend this product for handheld shower users with HIGH water pressure/flow only. If you have poor flow like I do, you might want to go for a different filter.

This product works ok. It last me about a month before I need to change the filter, but the problem with this product is, I use a filter because I have a lot of minerals in our water and turns my hair orange. This product alone will not do a complete filter. My hair is still orange. But it does help a bit.

Excellent quality, easy to use. After researching all the available products, I decided that this is the best system available (other than a central filter) for getting into a bathtub that doesn''t smell like a chlorinated pool. The filtered water is so much better for my skin and hair.

Klean Kanteen Wide Mouth Cafe Cap

Klean Kanteen Wide Mouth Cafe CapWhy listen to me? I carry two 64oz KKanteens of water into work with me every day, and switch this top between them as they are being consumed throughout the work day. I''ve owned this product for about a month now and use it 6 days a week.

It consists of two pieces: the base, and a disk shaped cover that inserts at the top that turns 90 degrees to either expose a drinking port, or obscure it. This is NOT spill-proof. If the container tips, fluid will spill out.

Drinking without spilling any on you is easy if you use the right techinique. No need to elaborate it here... try it with water first and you''ll get it right after a few tries.

It works, BUT: There is a problem with this design. The rotating disk insert traps fluid between it and the base beneath it. If you do not frequently wash these parts with soap and water AND pop off the top so the area between them can dry, it will get a fetid smell to it as bacteria grows. The disk is not designed to be regularly removed from the base; I have to squeeze the plastic insert that holds it on and pop the thing off. I have a feeling that eventually, the part that holds the rotating disk on is going to break from doing this. I have no other choice though as it cannot dry out without being seperated. Once it does break it can still be used as a sipping lid with a hole that cant be closed.

This cap is easier to drink out of by far than having to remove and reattach the screw on lid the containers ship with but it could definitely be improved. I will be looking for another sippy-cup type lid for my Kleen Kanteens, but it wont be one of these the second time around.

Conclusion: Better than nothing but needs improvement.

I just got my Klean Kanteen Wide Mouth Insulation Thermos and I ordered the Café Cap at the same time. I am so glad I did. I love the Klean Kanteens but didn''t like unscrewing and screwing every time I wanted a drink. This lets you drink hot or cold beverages at home, work or on the go.

One caveat, it is not leak proof and it not spill proof. I found that out yesterday when I moved my arm too quickly and found it covered with hot tea.

I also wish you could open and shut it with one hand but it''s not enough to make me change thermoses.

I carefully shopped around for a stainless water bottle with as little plastic as possible. I was totally sold on this cafe cap due to the description, which says "Stainless steel interior, polypro exterior allows a 100% stainless steel interior" but unfortunately in reality the entire lid is plastic. Big bummer.

It does leak!

Dont listen to the people that say "its just water trapped in the lid that dripps out." If my bottle is on its side or upside down all the water will drip out of it in a minute or two and being how I have the 64 oz bottle thats alot of water.

KleenKanteen, love you guys, but get your act together, this cap is crap. Plus, you have no alternative lids for your wide mouth bottles other than unscrewing the stock lid everytime you want a sip of water which is a pain.

The problem with buying coffee at your favorite coffee shop, is that I inevitably burn my hands while trying to carry it to the car. There, I inevitably spill as I go over bumps or, worse, put my finger over the whole on the lid and burn my fingers. I''ve tried using those insulated paper waffle covers, even wrapping numerous napkins around it...but it''s so wasteful. Then, when I get home, my coffee is too cold. I maybe try to microwave it, but, sometimes the cups can "melt" at the seams. Clearly, I needed a new solution.

So, I bought the double-walled / insulated stainless Klean Kanteens. First, no more burning hands while holding it. That''s fantastic. But the lid they come with, while virtually spill proof, isn''t really conducive to one handed opening/sipping in the car...that''s where this lid comes in! While you can''t invert the kanteen with this lid on (it''ll leak), it does a better job than my "finger over the whole" of the plastic lids on the paper cups (and I definitely don''t recommend inverting the paper cups with the plastic lids!!!)

Lastly, the insulated Kanteen keeps my coffee hot for hours. So much so, I have to add ice to get it to a cooler drinking temperature as it won''t cool off!

For the car, this lid is perfect....minimizes "speed bump" spills. Allows for easy one-handed operation. A perfect "green" solution for the car. So long disposable cups that burn my hands, leak, and disintegrate upon reheat...hello Klean Kanteen!

After, the Virginia earthquake, my well water tested at 792 units of coliform bacteria per 100 ml. I installed the Doulton Rio 2000 filter. The water tested at 0 units coliform. Unfortunately, the filter required cleaning very 5 to 8 days to restore water flow. Upstream of the Doulton filter, I had a 2 micron filter. The 2 micron filter did not clog but passed enough sediment, or maybe bacteria, to clog the Doulton filter rapidly. Obviously, it clogged because it was working but it was not a practical solution for whole house water cleaning. I considered putting more filters in parallel with the first, but 5 times nothing is still nothing, so I connected to municipal water which was available. The Doulton filter works, but it may not be practical for all circumstances.

The filter was supposed to come in a blue housing and instead it arrived in clear housing which is not as durable. Also looks like I may need a pressure regulator to keep the water under 70 PSI which was not mentioned in filter description. I did not receive installation directions. Hopefully this filter housing will not crack as I have read bad reviews on clear housing filters. I will update my review once it is installed and working for a while.

This is first a positive comment on the service from the supplier, "Decospace." I had earlier found this filter at slightly lower cost but the other vendor failed to even address my questions. The Decospace vendor answered everything quickly, anticipated my questions and concerns, making sure I got the desired fitting sizes, and even got the filter set delivered in very short time.

With respect to the product itself, it is not yet installed. So I can''t legitimately comment just yet. However, the product seems very well made and durable. Unlike some other solutions from other vendors, this one came with a supplied filter wrench. I''ll fill in more when there are some results.

Waterwise 9000 Countertop Distiller Save 18% Off

Waterwise 9000 Countertop DistillerI have owned the Waterwise Distiller for six years, during which time I have distilled on average a gallon of water every other day. It''s simple to use and pays for itself in about one and one-half years. I hate lugging home gallons of water from the grocery, not to mention the money I save. When my distiller failed, I immediately sent for another one. In a world where pollution rules, it''s nice to know that at least the water I''m drinking is pure.

I bought the Waterwise 9000 last spring. Since, I have distilled 200+ gallons. The items uses 790 watts when running. Cost in my rural area is about 25 cents of electricity per gallon. If home I can produce 4 gallons a day but usually produce 1-3 gallons per day. A hard round ring of deposits builds up inside/bottom in the shape of a horseshoe where the heating element is attached. I usually clean it out every 3 cycles (3 gallons). Best way to clean is pour 1/2 cup of white vinegar with some water so an inch and a half is in the container. A couple hours later just rinse it out. It can be scrubbed out but you have to do it with tongs and a scrubber since your hand will not fit inside to get to the bottom. About every 20 gallons I scrub the entire inside because the plastic walls (metal bottom) get a soft buildup of deposits (easily removed). I use the distiller in my basement because it does give off heat, great for winter, but not for a hot summer day in the kitchen. I did run it once without a proper seal (lid not on right) and steam/water was leaking but it was just water so cleanup was simple. I do put hot water from the tap in it when I use it. Never tried it using cold water, probably will take longer. I hope it doesn''t break before I break even with cost, but to date (26 Jan 11) it has never failed me. I reuse gallon distilled water bottles bought from the store. A few I have refilled more than 30 times each. You can refill right after it shuts down but be careful the interior is full of unpressurized hot steam. The only thing I don''t like about the product is the delay of cleaning of the deposits (sits idle). We stopped making coffee here because (even after cleaning regular with vinegar) our coffee pots would fail in a couple months. With this cheap distilled water I can make coffee every day without damaging the unit. One last tip. Use a 5 gallon container with spigot and cap (large enough you can fit your hand into). This allows you to quickly empty the holding tank and start it again and allows you to build up a few gallons for filling gallon jugs as you use them in the kitchen. Hope this information was helpful.

I purchased this item after going through the reviews and articles of countless other water distiller sites. I had 3 different models in mind. One was only $99 (), this waterwise one at $200 (available through ) and one for $400.

The $99 is recommended if not willing to pay a high fee. The webaddress I gave may look a little cheezy, but you can call the owner up directly and speak to him about the products. In fact, he strongly does not recommend this Waterwise Product. He says many people have trouble with the timer and something to do with the plastic. Also Waterwise has sold this modle over to Kenmore (Sears brand) and it has the same probs. (Kenmore model can be purchased anywhere from $100-200)

The $400 model my family owns. It is complete stainless steel, not plastic anywhere and it has a lifetime warrenty. Unfourtuantly, I do not have the website at this time to list it here. It''s the top of the line in home distillers and has a life time warrently (compared to waterwise 1 year)

Now my nightmare with waterwise. I ordered through the hacres.com place I listed above. It only cost $200 with shipping. I had wanted a water distiller for some time. We don''t drink the tap water for the contaiments in it, and I''m tired of getting Reverse Osmose water from water machines and paying all that money. Well when it arrived, it was a little bigger than I expected. Do plan on having it in an area where all the fans can freely circulate. The first batch of water needs to be dumped, just to clean the product. My 2nd and 3rd batches tasted and smelled bad....and so did all of those after it. On the 3rd morning after having the product, it wouldn''t work. I thought perhaps I was doing something wrong so I called waterwise and told them my problem (the carafat light was coming on, thereby not allowing me to start the distilling process). They looked up in the computer the message, put me on hold and said that they were shipping out a whole new machine to me.

Okay, that was bad news...I asked what was the matter. Wouldn''t you know it, it was the same thing the gentleman on the phone told me about from the $99 water distiller place. The timer broke and it was irreplaceable. Being that my machine was under warrently, they were shipping out a whole new one to me and wanted me to send my broken one back to them.

Well when everything hit me sometime later, I relized that I didn''t want a machine like that. I wanted to have my water distiller around for more than a year (esp at that price). So I decided to send everything back...which resulted in a big headache from both waterwise and hacers.com. Each company wanted back the broken distiller. After many phone calls, the situation was finally solved. I never want to go through such an experience again.

To sum things up, do not purchase this model.

This unit is fantastic! We have now made "making water" a regular daily task in our family. The result? Pure clean water that tastes great and is healthy. No more replacing filters with Brita, and the water made by the Waterwise 9000 tastes much more pure. But there are a couple of things you need to know going in.

The unit makes generates lots of heat out of the top opening, blown out by the fan. It is wonderful in the wintertime, but painful in the summertime. Make sure there is plenty of ventilation where you place it.

The boiler water container accumulates buildup quickly. This is expected because this is the leftover residue from the distillation. Rinsing alone won''t clean it. You need to have a mildly abrasive sponge to give it a quick scrub (boiler plate and the walls) after each use, and then rinse. It only takes a moment to do, but makes a huge difference in preventing any of the buildup taste being found in your distilled water. Also, buy the Kleenwise cleaner and use it once a week. It works very well! Clean with it once a week, scrub the inside briefly after each use daily. With this method the water will always taste great and the unit will be clean.

Since it only makes a gallon at a time you need a place to store the water. In our case we bought 2 more of the distilled water jugs, the same models that come with the unit. We found having 2 gallons of storage on hand and 1 jug free to make a new batch of distilled water works well.

Re-mineralize the water after distilling it. It tastes much better and is less "dry". Distilling will remove everything from the water, including minerals that may be beneficial. There are debates ongoing about whether drinking distilled water is healthy. Why bother with the debate at all? Have both worlds. Distill your water to remove all harm from it, and then add back in the good minerals. We add 15-20 drops of Liqumins ConcenTrace to the gallon jug of distilled water. This makes it absolutely perfect. It is not so much a taste issue, but more of a feel. As mentioned above, the purely distilled water feels dry. Adding minerals back in makes it feel more thirst quenching.

The unit is excellent! But you do need to clean it. And I recommend re-mineralizing the water after distillation. By doing this and using the Waterwise 9000 we have had the healthiest and best tasting water ever.

My WaterWise 9000 has been reliable and produces water that tastes good.

I see that several of the people who wrote reviews have had a bad time. I''m sure that everything they say is true, but it hasn''t been my experience.

I bought my unit in 2007 and have used it heavily ever since with no trouble. When it came I read the instructions, plugged it in and started distilling. I''ve been doing so ever since.

I love the fact that I don''t have to lug water from the grocery store and that I am not sending a lot of plastic bottles to the recycling or trash.

It has been an excellent unit for me and I''m very glad I bought it.

Philips Saeco RI9822/47 Talea Giro Plus Automatic Espresso Machine Save 42% Off

Philips Saeco RI9822/47 Talea Giro Plus Automatic Espresso Machine, Silver and TitaniumDefinitely worth 5 stars overall in my estimation having done lots of research and knowing its limitations before the purchase. Quality of the espresso produced surpasses almost all coffee shops including Charbucks and others by far. An expert barrista may be able to produce slightly better quality, but even their results are not consistent.

I previously returned a Jura-Capresso 13423 Impressa S9 One Touch Automatic Coffee-and-Espresso Center, Platinum because it produced inferior espresso and frothed milk with gigantic lukewarm bubbles. I would not have returned it (even at that price) if it had performed as well as the Talea. (THANK YOU AMAZON for a great return policy.) In fairness to the Jura, maybe it was faulty at the finest setting the grounds looked very coarse coarser than I would use for French-Press coffee.

The Talea cost 1/3 the price, produces far superior espresso, and very acceptable frothed milk BUT it is made of plastic and not stainless which might be a more important disadvantage for some. The ceramic grinder is quieter, producing very noticeably finer espresso-sized grounds at the factory middle setting (experimentation proved this setting to be the best) than the Jura set to the finest grind. Consequently the coffee is much stronger than the single scoop of coffee would suggest (as compared with the Jura''s 2 smaller scoops).

Within 80 seconds after switching it on, it completes a warm-up procedure which includes passing some 2oz of hot water (I use it to pre-heat my cup) through the two dispensing nozzles and is ready to brew coffee. The relatively small size of the spent coffee-puck bin, dregs tray, 8oz bean hopper, and 57oz water reservoir can be annoying when you are making numerous coffees, but I see the positive here "The Nasties" do not build up. Rinsing the puck-bin and dregs tray under warm water each time I refill the water container takes much less than one minute usually only once per day. The steam wand also needs wiping down and flushing with steam after each use to prevent "The Nasties" and I pull off the stainless part and wash it and wipe the internal pipe after each session of multiple frothings.

I choese not to use the expensive water filters because my soft tap-water will require few descalings. Weekly rinsing of the easily removed brew-group (the plastic guts of the machine) is easily accomplished without using expensive chemicals. At the same time I soap and rinse the water reservoir, puck bin, and dregs-tray. Lubrication of moving parts of the brew-group (using the food-safe lubricant provided) is suggested after 500 brewing cycles. Every 2 months should do it for my usage.

A ½oz ristretto is too strong for me if more than "1 bean" (7gm of coffee grounds) coffee strength is selected. When making a long coffee (6oz of coffee in an 8oz cup) "1 bean" is fairly strong, "2 beans" is strong, and "3 beans" (10.5gm of coffee grounds) is too strong and I like strong coffee. The "Saeco Brewing System" is easily adjusted to produce espressos with lots of crema or long coffees with little crema and greatly improved taste. This is not the sales gimmick I had suspected it to be. Froth is of a fairly good quality easily matching most store-bought coffees, but a good barrista can always produce far superior frothed milk on a high-powered semi-automatic machine.

When I ran out of my regular, every-day coffee (Lavazza Super Crema) I used a local high-quality medium-roast coffee which was quite oily (must have been rather old tasted below par) but the ceramic grinder handled these with ease. Though I would never use them (their taste is so inferior to my palate) dark roasts always tend to be oily and are best-avoided in super-automatics where cleaning the grinder becomes a major issue. Medium and light roasts work best with all super-automatics. The by-pass doser is excellent for decaf. coffee and the single-origin beans I use occasionally, though I have to use my separate burr grinder for them. Even though I am making more coffee drinks per day because it is so quick and easy, I am using less coffee. Wasted/stewed coffee is effectively eliminated.

This machine will accommodate mugs of 5½" (6¼" if drip tray is removed). Even my Nissan Travel mugs can be filled directly from the machine using the double brew feature (2 quick presses of the brew button gives 2 complete, consecutive brew cycles) for 2 x 6½oz = 13oz of coffee again from fairly strong (1 bean/14gm coffee) through too strong (3 beans/21gm coffee).

I use several different styles and sizes of cup (for ristrettos, espressos, long coffees, lattes, macchiatos, and cappuccinos) so I PREFER the simple selection process this machine offers to that of the more-programmable and more-expensive Talea Touch model. For me it would be a pain to have to enter programming mode because the available 3 selections does not cover the range of drinks, sizes, and strengths I make. AND I only have to make 2 adjustments each time (size, strength) before pressing the brew button compared to 1 button on the Talea Touch.

The one big question I have about this machine (and all other "super-automatics") is long term reliability. They all have plastic "brew-groups" the working parts which do the tamping, brewing, and ejection of spent coffee pucks, and these may be this type of machine''s weakest link BUT replacement brew-groups are available for $60. I quickly discovered that this was the culprit when the warning light came on when everything was OK (bean hopper and water reservoir full, puck-bin and dregs tray empty). During the weekly maintenance I now vacuum the machine all around the (removed) brew-group supports, and gently waggle the brew-group as I re-insert it to ensure that it is correctly and fully seated. No longer a problem and the weekly maintenance takes less than 5-minutes.

My 5 Stars would be less if a stainless body and larger capacities were more important to me. So far I am delighted with both the ease of use and quality of product. Though better coffees may be possible, this barrista (and most others) cannot produce them consistently.

I have owned this machine for only a month. In that time I have not used any of my numerous other coffee-makers. It is producing 5 to 15 good quality coffees per day without fuss or waste. Any change and I shall revisit this review.

I have had my saeco talea Giro for about two years now. It had to be serviced once during this time. The machine is a bit touchy and you really have to get to know how it works before you can judge it. First of all you have to keep it cleaned and de-scaled to keep it in good working order. If you have no time for this then do not buy it. Lights will come on before you start to brew to let you know you have to clean out the coffee grounds or empty the water well. This can be annoying if you are ready to have an espresso and you have to stop and clean things out. It will not work unless this is done first. So what I do after I brew is take the time and clean and empty grounds so the next time it is ready to go. With that said, I absolutely love making my latte it is of the highest quality that you would find at Starbucks or any other great coffee house. I even take it with me on vacation, if I can. I think for the money though, it should be made of stainless steel and not plastic on the outside. Also the drip tray should be make more sturdy to hold a large cup and not break off like mine did. If you have any problems with this machine after warranty you have to ship it off to a dealer that fixes these machines. That can me troublesome and you have to do without your espresso machine for weeks. I did give this a high rating because of the excellent quality of espresso and lattes. In the end that is why I bought the machine.

I''ve had this machine almost a year and have used it at least once a day with no problems. It''s my first expresso machine so it''s really my testing machine. It makes great expresso and it''s very quick and easy but as previous reviewer said, it''s a bit touchy and I found the initial learning curve annoying.

Pros: I can make multiple cups easily.

It has the ability to select shot size, strength of expresso and the amount of water dispensed with the shot.

It has a pre-ground coffee bypass feature which I love for late night decaf and trying different brands for different family members tastes.

Because it warms quickly I can have a latte before work in the morning.

As semi automatic its convenient, consistent and makes great lattes.

No more costly Starbucks!

Cons :You have to stay on top of the maintenance and prep.

Lights will come on if the grounds aren''t emptied and water tank filled.

It takes up a good bit of counter space.

It''s plastic and the drip tray does not support a large coffee cup filled with milk for steaming. I have to prop it with another cup.

I gave it 4 stars because, as a semi automatic, it produces wonderfully consistent expresso and lattes, is very easy to use and it''s fast. As a starter machine it''s great and when I move on up I''ll know what I want in my next machine.

This machine was a wedding gift from our uncle that he purchased on Amazon. So far we are very pleased with the coffee it makes. The espressos have a lovely crema every time, and the milk steamer practically works on its own, you can just place your milk container on the drip tray and let it do its work, you will always get really smooth foam. My husband calls this machine idiot proof, once you have set the dials to your preferred settings, you simply place your cup and push a button for a great espresso every time. One thing we should mention, however, is we did read the manual carefully and realized if you want optimum results on the long-term it''s important to follow their suggestions regarding cleaning and maintenance of the machine. All in all we really love the machine and hope it maintains it''s great performance for a long time.

UPDATE: We have had this machine now for more than two months and it continues to brew perfect coffee day after day with no problems whatsoever. We brew on average 6 to 8 cups of coffee each day with this machine. The more we use it, the more we love it. Cleaning and maintenance is very easy. Again, if you follow the regular cleaning and maintenance cycles for this unit you should have no problems with it. We have a local Saeco distributor close to us and were happy to find that regardless that we purchased the unit from Amazon, they were happy to advise on best coffee types and other information specific to this model along with replacement parts, descaler liquid and water filters for this unit when required. This is a very simple unit to use. It looks amazing we always get comments from guests about what an amazing coffee machine we have and it continues to work perfectly day after day. If I could say, if you have the extra money, the upgrade to the digital display model Philips Saeco RI9828/47 Talea Touch Plus Automatic Espresso Machine would be a nice touch for the extra hundred dollars.

I purchased this machine after 12 years with the Athena from Starbucks. Granted the Athena was not automatic and would really have enjoyed an automatic machine. This one was pretty bad. I have only had this one for two weeks. I did have to get used to the warm up procedure every morning when I turned it on. It dispensed one shot of water through the espresso spout and another shot of water through the milk frother. It just konked out on me today. I used the machine with the bean grinder for espresso shots for my husband and the coffee bypass one for decaffinated grounds for myself. It had a tendency to trigger the warming up light. Today the water light kept coming on after I dispensed my one shot of espresso. The water tank was half full. I filled the water tank and shut it back. I was finding myself slamming the door to get the machine to register that I had done what it had asked. Frequently I had to pull the main espresso part out and slam it back in with all the doors to get it to register. I feel like I''m doing the same thing I had to do with an old copier in the office. Not a good sign for a high end machine. Well today after two weeks it just gave out. I tried turning the machine on and off. I took the water tank out filled it up with water, slammed it back in its spot and the dredges drawer and still it wouldnt turn off the maintenance light and the water light came off. I turned the water light off and still no espresso, I could still get water from the frother but no espresso.

I''ve had it, sending it back. Its not like it was a $50 machine. Maybe I should be expecting performance from a $2000 machine?
