Due to my own inattention, I thought I was buying a gallon of the Stonetech floor cleaner which is to be diluted in water before using instead of the full strength spray cleaner for counters. However, I find this product works great on the vanity and kitchen counters.

This is all I use on my granite. Cleans them well with a great scent. Buy in larger quantity to save money.

Purenex Nickel Countertop Water Filter

I''m not quite sure how this thing works, but it does. Easy install of the diverter from the faucet with no leaks. After a few weeks of running it, it lost any unpleasant taste and was producing pretty good water. A big plus here is flow rate. The filtered water comes out fast -you can fill a bottle in seconds. This is a key advantage for me. Even the regular tap (unfiltered) comes through pretty fast.

So what are the down sides? I can''t quite come to terms with a filter that only needs to be changed once a year. Doesn''t all that standing around in water produce bad stuff (who knows what bacteria?) This is just a worry. Nothing specific.

Second, the "burn in" period for the filter lasts a while. My wife wouldn''t drink the water for a week to two weeks. Granted, she''s very picky when it comes to water, but then we should be! It did take a few weeks for the bad taste to go away. When it came time to replace the filter for me, I didn''t really want to go through another 2 weeks of flushing the filter.

More important, if you do get this filter, then be sure you keep the widget they send to help you open the filter case to change the filter very carefully (sort of looks like a screw driver with out the bit at the end). I lost this and didn''t succeed in using anything else in its place.

More recently, I bought a WaterChef C7000 Premium Countertop Water Filter, and would have to conclude it is better in every way, but one -price (twice as expensive... ouch). That filter started tasting fine after 15 minutes of flushing. The filter is rated at 3 microns rather than 5 for the Purenex. There is a use-based light that tells you when to change the filter. The diverter valve automatically reverts to tap water after use (a very handy feature). The unit itself is better designed so you can place it to the right or left of your faucet (the hose enters at the base from either direction). The downside of the WaterChef is that it is twice as expensive. But having owned both, I think it''s worth the price. In the theory the filter lasts almost twice as long, but more importantly the water out tasting better.

So far I''m sold on the WaterChef and would avoid the Purenex. Having said that taste is very personal, so this one might work for you.

You gotta hand it to Maytag they made replacing the water filter very simple. Took all of about 30 seconds from start to finish. And about 20 seconds of that was wiping up the water that dripped out of the old filter when I pulled it out, so the next change should go even better ;-)

We have a family of six and we drink water almost exclusively, so I went ahead and changed the filter at six months just like the owner''s guide recommended. However, I could see no evidence that the filter was near its end of life and am convinced that I can get more use out of the filters than the suggested six months. I will try to keep an eye on things, but without a little window I really have no way other than flow to know what is going on.

And that is why I gave this a rating of four stars. The filter seems to work wonderfully and replacement is a breeze, but I would be happier if I could look at the state of the filter while it is in use.

My Ice Cube make was having major problems. Ice Cubes were hollow and Ice was sticking on the White Prongs that pop the cubes out. I called Amana and they were no help so I figured that the Cube maker was not getting enough water flow.

I replaced with this filter and now the Ice Cube maker is like new and the water shoots out of the dispenser like crazy. What used to take 25-30 seconds to fill a glass of water now takes 3-5 seconds.

So if you are having Ice Cube issues or poor water flow buy this.

It''s a little expensive for a water filter but it''s worth it.

Oh and the water tastes good too.

This is a very expensive item for what you get, and it certainly doesn''t last as long as they say it does. The taste of your water coming through this filter is great for the first month or so, but then the quality drops noticeably quick.

I think the price of this item is unfairly high, but once you buy a refrigerator that needs them, you''re stuck. You either buy the filter or put up with nasty tasting water from your refrigerator spigot.

A good rule of thumb, if you''re buying one filter, better buy two, because you''ll need a new one quicker than you think.

I''m doing an update to my February review. After a whopping 90 days of making fairly good coffee our machine decided to take a trip to the coffeemaker graveyard this week.

That makes three Cuisinarts that have lasted a combined total of nearly a year. Not great for hundred dollar+ machines. So to the reviewer who said that since it was Cuisinart it must be good all I can say is good luck.

Oh yeah, after sending the second one back and being told that we''d have no warranty on this one since we''d gone through so many machines I don''t suppose there''ll be a Cuisinart anything in our home again any time soon.

On the plus side: stylish, easy to program, relatively fast brewing.

On the minus side: the valve on the "pause and serve" feature easily clogs with grounds, causing it to leak -if you are making a full pot, you have to make the coffee weak (using fewer grounds) to avoid this problem. Also, you cannot pour a cup from a full carafe without spilling. Finally, the brew temperature is too low, and is not adjustable.

I''ll be looking for a replacement as soon as my budget allows.

I bought this coffeemaker after doing a fair amount of research. The price was right, the company respectable, the features sufficient. Turns out that the coffeemaking is only so-so ... the design is terrible and makes the white model always stained on top and needing to be wiped down behind the carafe where the coffee always drips down. If you buy one, and a strongly recommend that you spend your money elsewhere, definitely do not buy the white one. It is downright unsightly unless you clean it up all the time. I wrote Cuisinart an email to complain about this model after only owning it a few weeks and got back a pat, unresponsive letter with no desire to try and accommodate my dislike of it and provide perhaps an alternative model. All told, I would not buy another Cuisinart coffeemaker and would think twice about buying anything by this company after my contact with customer service.

I bought this model in November 2006. It works fine but, compared to my old Krups, the carafe and machine lid need to be redesigned. The carafe''s band collects water underneath it when washed in the dishwasher. When turned upright, the water flows into the carafe, so I have to wash it by hand to make sure there''s no detergent in my next cup of coffee. (My old Krups had no band--just seamless, rimless glass.) And the machine''s lid will allow condensation--often several tablespoons worth--to drip down the back of the machine and onto my counter. Coffee grinds splatter during brewing; I''m finding coffee grinds in every nook and cranny! I''m just glad I got the white model so the grinds are easy to spot and clean up. Finally, I don''t like the fact that I can''t wash more parts of the machine in the dishwasher. My Krups was spotless for the nine years I had it, and I used it at least several times a week. I guess I should''ve purchased another Krups!

We got one of these coffee makers as a replacement for a Model DCC-270 after our second one of those failed. The 270 made great coffee when it worked. It even had a couple features not found on the new line. However it had a serious problem with water getting into the electronics. One would think a coffee machine should be able to handle a certain amount of moisture.

On this machine the electronics have been moved to the upper front of the machine rather than underneath. The programming is more intuitive. Rather than having a variable temperature setting this one just brews warmer than average coffee. Although I haven''t experimented with it yet it also has a water filter option, something that was previosly unavailable. The timer for the hot plate is simpler to use than the older models and something that one gets attached to quickly. It also comes with a gold permanent filter which seems to work well.

My only complaint is that the carafes from the older line don''t interchange with the 1000 series. Since these weren''t sent in when returning the old ones for warranty I have a surplus. Anyone interested?

So obviously you''re reading this hoping to understand why you should buy this product and why you shouldn''t. And you''ve read a bunch of reviews and there doesn''t seem to be a middle ground. Seem''s either people hate it and tell you to beware, or love it and highly recommend it.... so you''re confused....correct?

Well, read this review from someone who understand technological things and simply isn''t some person looking to get soda for 10 cents per liter bottle. If this is what you''re looking for, it isn''t going to happen. At least not unless you own a carbon dioxide supply company.

So why should you buy this?

1. First off, it does work as advertised. Once you connect the CO2 cartridge, there''s not much more to set up, other than put some water (preferably spring or filtered COLD water) in the liter bottles (or 14 oz bottles sold separately), inject the "proper" amount of carbonation into the bottle and then add whatever amount of flavoring you wish. I say "proper" amount of carbonation because the soda maker (at least the ones bought recently I have the "Dynamo" model and this review was written in Nov 2011) will add carbonation to the point where the pressure will force the unit to make a sort of "buzzing" sound which indicates that the maximum carbonation has been added into the water, and the excess is being forced out to create that "buzzing" sound.

2. The ability to add carbonation up to the point where the SodaStream "buzzes" or "burps" brings up another plus. You can add less carbonation than the SodaStream maxes out at, in which case you won''t hear the warning sound. But when you do this, you create carbonated drinks which have varying amounts of carbonation in them. If you desire less, you can make carbonated drinks with less.

3. Flavors. A third plus. Yes, some people don''t like the flavors that SodaStream provides. But these are the same people SodaStream were probably never going to satisfy anyway. SodaStream provide a bunch of flavors....cola''s (diet/reg), Dr. Pepper-like flavors (diet/reg), Sprite and Sierra Mist-like flavors (diet/reg), Orange, Energy, Grapefruit, lightly flavored unsweetened "MyWater" flavors, etc., etc. The point is, as a 3rd plus, you can use their flavors or you can experiment and try anything you like that will flavor your soda. I use Mio water flavorings which provide excellent, low calorie alternatives. If you don''t like their flavors, then don''t complain and knock the technology. Be creative and leverage what the SodaStream gives you....which is convenience and flexibility/options.

4. Green. A fourth plus is that you refill plastic bottles espcially designed for use with SodaStream soda makers. Because of this, you don''t buy cans or 2 liter bottles from the store, in some states paying a redemption free for the right to lug this stuff home, then drinking your soda and then accumulating all these cans and bottles to take back to a redemption center, or worse, throwing them away and filling a ton of landfills.

5. Health. A fifth plus...or at least it can be. People really shouldn''t drink too much soda. At least soda with sugar in it. It leads to obesity, diabetes, etc. Yes... you can flavor water with stuff like Mio or add some juice from an orange or lemon. But not only does it not taste as good as a soda, you just know that flat water based drinks are missing something. And what''s missing is that carbonation and the SodaStream will add that for you, and allow low calorie flavored drinks to taste better and be better for you!

6. Space. A sixth plus is space. That''s obvious. You don''t have all the bottles and cans sitting around, and the SodaStream unit only takes up a small amount of counter space.

7. Convenience. Yes you do save time and hastle from going to go to the store to lugging around bottles and cans of soda, this one is sort of a wash. See the reasons why you don''t buy the SodaStream. But at the same time, those who claim that it''s hard to find replacement CO2 cartridges, don''t get out of the house much. In California at least, you can get replacements at any Staples, Macy''s, Bed Bath and Beyond, Sears, Costco, and Target (to name a few). What may be issue is returning the unused cartridges, since not all stores that carry the cartridges, support sales and exchanges of the old cartridge. But what i do is simply collect the unused ones, and then periodically go to a store that does accept them.

So now lets address why you shouldn''t buy the SodaStream. Or better yet, lets address why you don''t buy the SodaStream.

1. To save money. While i know you will save money per liter, my feeling is that if that''s the primary reason you''re looking to buy the SodaStream, i don''t recommend it. It''s not signifant enough in my humble opinion, to warrant spending around $100 to $130 for a SodaStream unit, another $30 (minimum, less tax and shipping if you purchase the cartridges online).

2. Convenience. Despite the convenience "pluses" i mentioned earlier, as i stated, this is sort of a wash because you still have to go and return cartridges, and purchase syrup/flavoring, albeit less frequently than buying soda depending on how much you used to buying at one time.

Hope this information helps. One last note. In California where we have to pay a 5 cent redemption fee per can, this tilts the money saving and convenience to the "plus" side. A 24 pack adds another $1.20 at the cash register, and then you have to store the sticky cans and bottles until you can accumulate enough to make it worthwhile, to drive to the local redemtion center to get your cash back. That''s incentive enough alone to purchase a SodaStream!!!

We love the Sodastream machine and all the soda flavorings.

We live in a small condo with a long walk to our unit, and we got the Sodastream mainly to cut down on the number of plastic bottles we were hauling in and out of the place. Also, my husband drinks a lot of diet soda, and the sodium isn''t good for his high blood pressure. The Sodastream diet syrups are low sodium or sodium-free, and they''re sweetened with sucralose instead of aspertame (which some people think is healthier). For those who don''t drink diet drinks, the non-diet syrups are sweetened with a cane sugar-and-sucralose mix, instead of high fructose corn syrup, so they''re much lower in calories than name brand sodas.

The Sodastream has been great for our purposes. I have a lot fewer grocery bags to haul up the stairs every week, and a lot less recycling to carry out to the bins. We make soda as we need it, in whatever flavor we''re in the mood for, so we can have a lot of flavor choices without having a lot of extra bottles sitting around. The water comes out perfectly fizzy if you follow the directions, and we''ve been very happy with the flavors. My favorites are the lemon lime, grapefruit, and cranberry. My husband likes the diet cola and ginger ale. Best of all, we never "run out" of soda. If we open the fridge and there''s none in there, we simply make more.

Before we bought this product, I read a few consumer reviews that made me worry a little about the availability of CO2 refills and flavor syrups. For most people, this won''t be a problem. You can simply order the CO2 canisters and flavors online, leave the empty CO2 canisters on your doorstep, and a messenger will drop by to pick up the empties and deliver your supplies.

Unfortunately, the messenger system can be a bit of a problem for those of us who live in security buildings, or in areas where it''s not safe to leave things on the doorstep. Sodastream doesn''t give you an estimated delivery date or a way to track your package. The messenger tends to show up at unpredictable times, day or night. The guy who delivers in our area is not too bright and speaks very little English. Twice he''s been unable to follow the directions posted on the security system in our lobby so that we could buzz him in.

Fortunately, you can just exchange your CO2 canisters at Williams & Sonoma and Sur La Table stores. (And they last a long time, so you don''t have to do it very often.) Unfortunately, the same is not true of the flavor syrups. Brick-and-mortar stores carry a very limited variety of flavors, so unless you only want a couple of basic flavors, you still have to order refills from Sodastream (and deal with their messenger service). But again, for the vast majority of people, this won''t be as much of a hassle as it is for us.

A number of people have complained that the cost savings of the Sodastream are greatly exaggerated by the company. That might be true. If you''re really pinching pennies, you can certainly make carbonated water on the cheap with some supplies from a home brewing store. But if you don''t have the space for a DIY setup and don''t want your kitchen to look like a science lab, the Sodastream is a simple, easy alternative.

One more tip, for those of you who are deciding which model to buy we originally liked the more expensive "Penguin" model, because it looks more stylish on the countertop, and it uses fancy glass carafes. But then we realized that if we wanted to make soda and take it somewhere (to work, in the car, on picnics, camping, etc.), the plastic 1-liter bottles were much more practical. It''s something to consider, especially if you want to break the habit of spending money on soda at the vending machines at work.

Beware the real total cost of ownership when buying this product.

These are great in the UK, where you can buy the gas refills (actually exchanges) in many supermarkets for not much money. However, in the US there are pitifully few outlets for the refills (Williams Sonoma and Camping World) and as such they are always out of stock. Because these gas cylinders have a proprietary fitting and anti-refill valve on them, they cannot be refilled at paintball, welding, or homebrew stores, so your only option is to mail them to Sodastream and obtain refills from the manufacturer directly. This adds up very quickly, and there is simply no way you can achieve the 20c per liter carbonation they claim here. The cheapest refills available from the manufacturer today are 3x14.5oz cylinders for $39 + $10 shipping = 41c/l. But since you have to have 3 cylinders first, you have to buy 3 more first (another $75 + $10 shipping), and these are their SALE prices.

It''s an interesting novelty and the kids love it, but when the first gas cylinder runs out, the soda cans on the supermarket shelves are going to look really tempting again. It''s a shame, here''s another great idea marred by poor execution. I can''t see that there is anything ''green'' about burning up so much in shipping heavy cylinders back and forth across the country.

Let''s start off with the hardware. The machine is mostly plastic, but it appears durable. I''m a great abuser of products and I haven''t managed to break anything on it yet. The bottles are of above-average plastic thickness, so they''ll probably last as long as the company claims they will. The CO2 canisters are well made and the only disadvantage is that they''re proprietary and need to be send back to Soda Club for refill. Use of the machine is so easy that it''s trivial -screw on a bottle filled with water, press the button, wait for a buzzing noise from the relief valve. It doesn''t get any simpler than that. No electricity required and no mess to clean up. In short the hardware is a 100% win.

Now we get to the software (or maybe I ought to call it "softdrinkware"). In order to make soda / pop / "soft drinks", you need to use syrup which the company calls "soda mix". The company sells a variety of soda mixes in both regular and diet forms. As many people have noted, the regular mixes are actually hybrid mixes with 2/3 artificial sweetener and 1/3 real sugar. That''s a real shame as choice has been taken away from the consumer in favor of a perceived health benefit by those who think they know better than you. My initial order contain five regular mixes: Cola, Orange, Grape, Root Beer, and Pete''s Choice. Let''s walk through them from best to worst.

Pete''s Choice and Root Beer were both excellent. Pete''s choice tastes like Dr. Pepper. Both of these mixes tasted as good or better than store-bought soda. There was no annoying aftertaste from the artificial sweetener. I''d highly recommend them and I expect that most of my refills are going to be these two flavors.

Orange and grape .... not so much. Fruit flavors demand a certain sweetness to taste right, and it just isn''t there. The annoying artifical sweetener aftertaste is prominant among these two flavors although it''s tolerable. They also don''t taste that orange-ish or that grape-ish. I might try mixing the syrup in at double the amount next time to see if I can raise the sweetness and strength of flavor while hopefully not ramping up the aftertaste. I''m skeptical.

And then there''s the cola mix. This has to be one of the foulest concoctions I have ever had the misfortune of drinking. It doesn''t taste like regular cola. It doesn''t taste like diet cola. The artificial sweetener aftertaste is overwhelming. It kind of tastes like the old diet sodas that would spoil after sitting on the shelf for 5 years. If I didn''t know better, I''d think they''d mixed in some of that chemical is in cough syrup that makes you gag when you put it in your mouth.

In summary, I really like the machine itself. I''d have given it 5 stars were it not for the flavors. The cola flavor was so bad that it deserved taking two stars off my review. The orange and grape flavors were mediocre and between the two of them it deserved the loss of another star. The bottom line is that this is a product that you''ll be drinking and it needs to taste good.

Updated (2/17/2010) I''ve had a chance to try out a few more flavors and I''ve found that I really like the ''Fountain Mist'' and ''Lemon Lime''. The ''Energy Drink'' tastes quite similar to red bull. I''ve bumped up my review an extra star to cover the new flavors that I actually enjoy! Still can''t stand that cola flavor though, which is rather unfortunate. I''m on my third CO2 cylinder now, and have given the machine a lot of use. It''s holding up well.

* The sound makes the dog get all wiggy, which is fun to watch. It sounds like a big raspberry when you fizz up a bottle of water.

I still haven''t had to return the CO2 bottle, so I don''t know how easy that''s going to be. Delivery was slow but entertaining: about 3 weeks after we ordered, an actual Soda-Club delivery woman showed up at our door toting our new Soda-Club.

One caveat: the syrups are pretty revolting...at least the ones we tried. Plus, they all contain artificial sweeteners, even the non-diet ones. But we just add some lemon or orange essence (available in the spice section at your store) to pep it up a bit.

Also, if you go through fizzy water pretty fast, be sure to order two extra bottles. You have to chill the water before you fizz it up, so it''s good to have a few in rotation.

Flavor Options 1-Pack Flavor Cartridge

Bought the filter and then couldn''t find the replacement flavor cartridges. Was glad to find them here, one little squirt while filling with the PUR water filter adds a little desirable flavor to otherwise "no tase" filtered water.

Can 100 Carbon Filter With Prefilter

This Can Filter is one of the best on the market, and already having owned other ones, it was a no-brainer to purchase another. However, be advised that these are very hard to ship due to the size and the weight, and the first one I received was so damaged I had to refuse it at the door with FedEx. We were upset as we really were on a time crunch with needing this filter (those of you out there who own these for their intended purpose know what I mean :) but Amazon.com really came through on this shipping damage. I called their customer service as soon as FedEx left, and advised of the damage and that I refused it at the door. (A much quicker and easier way of getting damaged product back to the retailer; that way you don''t have to pay a penny for it to get back to them. Just so you know! ;) Amazon sent another filter out overnight, and we had it delivered the next day! This one wasn''t nearly as damaged; had a few dings but nothing that affected its functionality so we were good with that. I did let Amazon know, and they knocked $50 off an already super low price! That was very great on Amazon''s part, and well worth taking the chance of shipping damage. Take it from someone who needed this the day before it was ordered: this was a great deal dollar-wise that was made even better by Amazon''s great customer service. I highly recommend buying these filters from them, since if something does happen during transit, Amazon WILL make it right by you. I got one of these units for Christmas from my wife. And after over 2-years of use we couldn''t be happier. This unit reduced our PPM''s from 600 to 80. Our Arrowhead bottled water came in at 150-ppm''s. The water tastes great and the system works like a charm!

The permeate pump is definitely the ticket. The pressure coming out of the RO tap is excellent and the recharging of the system is very rapid. It does make a clicking or thumping sound when the permeate pump is recharging the system. I''d rather it was quiet, however after doing quite a bit of research I feel the permeate pump is the best overall solution to increasing the out-flowing water pressure, as well as, permitting the membrane to function optimally.

Note: I had some shipping damage to the unit, but the supplier included so many extra fittings and such that I was able to fix the damaged parts myself and get the system up and running without having to wait for parts to be sent.

The SPT SD-40E Energy Star 40 Pint Dehumidifier needs some assembly if you wish to use the continuous drain option. Connecting a garden hose to the back of the unit is not for the faint of heart. The garden hose can be connected to an exterior port but the port is connected the internal drain, over the bucket, by a flimsy plastic tube that is fitted to the drain and the exterior by friction fit. The supplied connector for the garden hose needs to be attached to the body of the dehumidifier but no hardware (small screws for plastic, one supposes) is supplied for this task. If the garden hose in not sufficiently tight the dehumidifier will leak water onto the floor. If you tighten the garden hose enough to get a good seal without securing the connector to the body of the dehumidifier then you risk dislodging the internal friction fit over the bucket. All this could have been avoided if the drain over the bucket was threaded for a garden hose. Then you could thread the garden hose inside body of the dehumidifier and secure it directly to the internal drain.

If you need a small-footprint dehumidifier, I strongly recommend. This "no-name" is actually a Danby I believe; or else, it''s an exact copy as far as I can detect! I previously had a Danby, with great results. I use it in the basement and leave it on continuously. The continuous operation feature comes with a short plastic tube which makes connection to a garden hose easy.

Have had the unit for month or so, worked right out of the box. Fan is a bit louder than anticipated. Is marketed as 40-pint, which equates to 5 gallons, however this is misleading, the water collection reservoir is not 5 gallons, doesn''t even equate to 1 gallon. Appears that if you dump frequently enough then the unit has the "capability" of removing 40 pints of water from the air per day. Am satisfied with the unit''s operation, just felt misled about the reservoir size.

I''m sure the filter itself is decent enough, but I never even got that far. The product comes with plastic quick-disconned fittings that get fastened to the copper tubing by compression. Problem is the compression nut is brass, and the fitting is plastic. If you dont'' have the threads exactly lined up, it is extremely easy to strip the threads. Which I did... Haven''t looked yet how available a replacement quick-disconnect fitting is, but my guess is not readily available. Recommend to GE that they make the quick disconnects out of brass or something more robust than plastic.

The humidifier works really well and produces great vapor with a good quality mineral filter and ionic silver to inhibit bacterial growth. For function alone, I would give this 5 starts. But I gave it two stars because of the obnoxious, ultra-bright internal LED lights that cannot be turned off. The lights are so bright that it lights up the entire room at night. It''s not an ambient glow, it''s BRIGHT. I received this as a gift for my son''s nursery, and the only way I can use it is to rig pen caps as "covers" for the LED lights (I can''t use tape because they''re located IN the water reservoir) and then wrap the tank in black fabric. Even then, it still puts off a glow that''s about equivalent to a bright night light. It''s such a pain in the neck to get this thing set up with the pen caps and the fabric that I avoid using it. This would be a great product if not for the internal lights. What a horrible design flaw.

I knew from other reviews that this humidifier had lights that you cannot turn off when it is functioning. This is 100 percent true. The blue LEDs are beneath the tank and while you can dim them, you cannot turn the lights off while the unit is functioning. This is a drawback, but shouldn''t completely discourage you. The light is not that bright when dimmed and I agree with another reviewer that it is no more disruptive than a fishtank light.

There are TWO really AWESOME things about this humidifier that are unique and great. I own two other brands, so I know what I''m talking about.

1. The humidity comes out like a ''smoke'' and not wet. Everyone who has seen this operate has commented on how they want one like this with the super fine ''smoke'' and not just misting wet air and ruining everything within a few feet. This really does look like it''s smoking rather than misting and surfaces within its proximity do not get wet. It doesn''t have a fan to push the humidity in a certain direction, but it does have the ability to aim the nozzle on the top to different directions. The humidity ''smoke'' will be going straight up though and you will see it sink and roll across the surface, just like smoke. It''s actually rather cool to watch.

2. The footprint of this is so small. I am renting an apt while my home is being renovated and my apt is really small. It''s so great that this takes up no more space on the counter than a ballet slipper. My other humidifiers take a lot of counter space, so this being so small is a big plus. The downside is that you will have to refill the tank if you intend to run it all day. It doesn''t hold as much water as my other units.

One concern I have is with the calcium/anti-bac filter in the middle of the tank. We had a few warm days, so I emptied everything to let it dry out and the calc/anti-bac filter never did dry out and when you''d shake it, it clearly still had water in it. It has some sort of microbeads in it and is impossible to dry out. I just put it all back together and refilled the tank because it turned cold again. I question where you can buy a replacement for this filter, since it is obviously meant to be thrown away after a couple months use and there''s no way to dry it out. Doesn''t look like Amazon carries the filters yet. If someone knows how I can obtain more filters, please let me know.

All-in all, this is a cool little unit and raised the humidity in my 600sq ft apt without problems. Just don''t expect much if you are using this in a large house. You''ll need to close it off in a room for the best effectiveness.

The Swizz Style humidifier looks great and has many good design points. It''s thin enough to stand on my windowsill. I think $80 is far too much to pay for a humidifier; even one with features as this one.

It consumes about 1 gallon (1 tankful) per day. There is no option to adjust the (light) rate of mist production --which is fine for me. The various blue LED lights (on the AC adapter, next to the on/off switch, and under the water tank) are too bright to sleep with, so I have covered them with black electrical tape.

Since the tank capacity is only one gallon, it doesn''t get too heavy or unwieldy to bring from the faucet. Like other humidifiers where the mist stack goes through the water tank, there will be a few drops of condensation clinging to the stack that will fall out as you bring the tank to be filled; but it''s not as bad as the Crane drop-shaped humidifiers that will essentially drip on the entire path.

I like the idea of the filter and the ionic silver; however, after two months of use, the reddish-brown algae or mildew that comes out of my faucets has taken up residence in this machine. (Better than the one month it took for the Crane.) This is easier to clean than the Crane drop-shaped humidifier: the vent at the top of the mist stack pops out, providing access to clean the inside surfaces.

I like that the LEDs turn red when the tank needs to be refilled. Simply refilling the tank won''t resume mist production, though --you need to press the on/off button for the machine to reset.

So far, it seems to work great. Thought I should weigh in and say that, in my opinion, the light is not "bright" at all. At most, it is the strength of a night light, or an alarm clock. I have it at the foot of my bed and am nevertheless not kept up by the light or noise.

We typically use humidifiers for our two daughters this time of year, and this "Aquila" Ultrasonic Humidifier arrived just a day or two after three out of four members of the family were diagnosed with sinus infections. This was perfectly easy to set up right out of the box. Literally taking it from my porch to pressing the on button took, at most, seven or eight minutes. Indeed, there is no option to completely turn off the light and still use this unit. The "dim" setting is slightly less irritating but does not make a huge difference.

So, will I stop using it because of the light? No. No one had any real difficulty falling asleep. The light is comparable to a fish tank or small reading lamp. Just be aware before you make your purchase that this unit will light up and stay lit as long as the humidifier is working.

This Humidifier is so much better than the fancy one by sharper image that I had and then returned;

1. It only has one tank to fill (1.6 gallon capacity). It was a pain to have to fill each of the two tanks on the Sharper Image one.

2. It actually has a humidistat control. The more expensive(way more) sharper image one did not.

3. It has a built-in ionizer. (I don''t use it, but still)

4. PRICE; Other fancier looking humidifiers will cost way more and have way less features.

5. The tank has a pretty big opening to pour water in. This makes it easier to fill. I also like that it will stand up on a flat surface while refilling it.

My only gripes:

1. Just to make it clear, power consumption is 45W. I wish Optimus would have printed that in the manual or on the box instead of me having to look on the underside of the unit''s base for this piece of info. I''m not complaining about how much power it takes; just make the information easier to find, Optimus.

2. The humidistat control doesn''t show what relative humidity % you have it set at. You kinda have to guess or use a hygrometer to know for sure. If it had a digital readout on the Humidistat, this would be 5 stars for sure. This is not really a complaint for me, but just a way they could make the product even better.

Overall this is a good one because it has a decent sized water tank and will keep the humidity at a constant level without having to fiddle with the dials constantly. It is pretty much set it and forget it except for refilling it with water of course. A little tip: use reverse osmosis or distilled water in it and you''ll probably rarely, if ever, have to clean it.

I received this item on the 11th of February. From the moment I turned it on it worked perfectly. The unit makes litterally no noise. The output is perfect for a medium sized room. It even has an ionizer built in. The comfort since its activation in the room is 10 fold. We do not wake up with dry lips or mouth. It''s easier to breathe. Cuisinart DGB-700BC Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker Save 53% Off

I purchased this coffee maker around Christmas and was a little concerned over the prior reviews that stated it uses too much coffee. The chemist in me had to do the experiment.

A standard issue coffee from Starbucks was ground to a standard medium grind for coffee makers of this type. The coffee was measured on a 1 gram precision scale according to the specification on the Starbucks coffee bag (2Tbs per 6oz cup) to make 6 cups of coffee. The coffee grinds weighed to be 54 grams. The same coffee beans from the same bag were ground in the coffee maker set to 6 cups and strong. The coffee grinds were then measured on the same scale and wouldn''t you know...it was exactly 54 grams.

For my coffee beans this machine on the 6 cup setting produced the following:

Strong = 9 grams (2Tbs) of coffee per cup of water

Medium = 8 grams (about 1 3/4Tbs) of coffee per cup of water

Mild = 7 grams (about 1 1/2Tbs) of coffee per cup of water

I can''t imagine that one couldn''t find a setting to their liking when you consider you have increments of 2 cups with 3 settings (strong, medium and mild) each.

After considerable research for the absolute best coffee maker in the world, I decided to purchase the Cuisinart Grind and Brew DGB-700BC. It has a burr grinder. This one has the 12-cup glass carafe and it has a warming plate. Reviews on the stainless steel carafe have stated there is no warming plate. It seems the glass one does and the thermal one does not. It works perfectly and is very easy to program and use. It comes with a DVD which simplifies the process even more.

It can also brew ground coffee. Just turn off the grinder before pressing the on/off button and it''s ready to go.

As for noise, I don''t consider it too noisy. After all, it IS a coffee grinder and I expect to hear it when it grinds the coffee.

The hopper holds a half-pound of beans which is enough to make coffee several times (if you''re using the mild setting).

The retail price is $199, but many places have it routinely for $169. I purchased mine at Kohls for $159 and they had a "scratch off" sale going on and I got an additional 15% off at the checkout.

I highly recommend this coffeemaker.

I have owned a couple of grind and brews in the past with mixed results. Our first was a Mr Coffee back in the 1990''s. It made great coffee, but was messy, and broke frequently. We also had the first Jura Capresso model about 6 years ago. I liked it, but my wife felt that no matter what the settings were, the coffee was bitter. Recenly we had been using a Krups stand alone machine, that makes good coffee, and a stand alone Krups burr grinder. Since our Krups burr grinder was getting finicky, and the coffee post was getting old, we decided to give the DGB700 Grind and Brew a try.

My initial take, is that it makes an excellent cup of coffee, better than my last Krups machine. I am still experimenting with the settings, but so far I am very pleased.

You do need to follow the directions. The key points I have found, is to make sure that the basket parts are dry. This means a quick rinse and dry between pots if you are making more than one.

I also have cleaned out the chute where the ground coffee goes into the basket. It''s very easy, and although mine was not clogged after about 6 pots, I did see where the grounds were building up in there a bit. My stand alone burr grinder had the same issue, but the new Cuisinart pot is actually very easy to clean in this area. Just remove the bean hopper, open the chute, push the lever over, and push they grounds into the basket area. (put a filter in first). Actually now, I just clean the chute each time. It takes less than a minute, and I think that this is the one main issues that some people are having.

Also, I have lined up the arrows on the top of the basket. Easy to do, and it avoids some of the negative comments on other reviews. Finally, if you use paper filters, make sure that the top of the plastic basket is going INSIDE the top of the filter.

My wife likes her coffee mild and smooth, but flavorful. My settings to make 12 cups, are 6 Cups on the grind selector knob with Mild or MED on the brew strength selector. The brew has good smooth flavor, and is not bitter. I also drink a lot of iced coffee. I will simply up the strength when I make coffee for that.

Again, so far, so good. I think that following the guide and keeping the machine clean and dry should produce good results.

One last thought... other Grind and Brew brands (Jura Capresso) make a major point about NOT storing beans in the freezer. Actually, I have done this for years, but after doing a bit of Google research, I find that it''s better to just keep the beans in an airtight container, and only open what you will use in a couple of weeks. We are doing that now. I do notice that this sees to make the beans less oily, so that may also be a key to why some people get clogs.

I will post a follow-up after I have had the machine for a few months.

OK.. update as of 3/12 the unit is still working well. I do clean the chute after most every pot, but this is easy, and only takes a minute. Again... I strongly suggest NOT storing your beans in the freezer. The research shows that freezing the beans can force oil to the surface of the bean, which can contribute to clogs. I will say that this pot makes excellent tasting coffee.

We have had to return two of these units because the grinder stops working. The problem is that the chute beneath the grinder is horizontal so the coffee grinds have to be pushed into the filter rather than falling in. Even after cleaning, the coffee grounds get packed into the grinding mechanism causing it to break.

I do understand why people say this is a great coffee maker though. When it works, it is very convenient and grinding the beans right before the brewing makes great coffee. I want to like this product but the poor design of the grinding chute makes it unusable.

Cuisinart is a decidedly unhelpful company. If you have a defective product, you can expect long hold times and rude customer service agents. The warranty on this item is that if you pay shipping & handling both ways, they will send you a replacement. After three defective units, they will issue a credit for other cuisinart products.

Update: California law requires them to replace the product without charging for shipping & handling. So, after telling me that they wouldn''t waive those charges, they had to waive them anyway due to California law.

About once every two weeks I have a "bad coffee day" in which my machine just gets persnickity. I am usually guaranteed that I will have to make at least two pots before it gets it right. OK, so I''ve had this machine at my vacation home for about a year now and here''s what I''ve learned:

1. The paper filters are much more convenient than the metal basket. I just throw the paper filter (preferably the unbleached kindbetter for the environment) into my garden and then all I have to do is rinse the basket and wipe with a sponge. Saves time and my septic system from the coffee grounds.

2. Don''t forget to use a filter of some sort in the basket or your counters, cabinets, floors, walls, etc. will get coffee makeover. I am talking from experience.

3. Make sure you clean most of the removable parts before each use. You only need to clean the coffee bean holder every so often (I do it when the beans start to run out). You don''t need to do a soap and water cleaning on the other parts but you should wipe them down with a rag or sponge under running water. It only takes a few seconds. Once a week or so toss everything into the dishwasher.

4. Make sure you have enough beans in the holder to brew the amount of coffee you want. As I said above, when it gets low is when you want to do your thorough cleaning.

5. Make sure that you put the carafe in fully and correctly. If there is one BIG criticism I have about this machine is that it''s very easy to misplace the pot and give your kitchen a nice coffee tattoo. This most often happens when I am in a hurry and really don''t have time to be cleaning up a big mess.

6. Clean the chute. You have to clean the chute regularly. Here are a few tips I''ve learned to make it easier. First, put a filter in the basket when you do this (I like to do it after I''ve done the "dishwasher cleaning" of my parts, but before I brew the next pot) but don''t put the lid on the basket. That way the grounds will fall directly into the lined basket and if you do this often, there''s no reason why you can''t just leave them in there while you brew the next pot (your coffee will be a little stronger). Cleaning the chute only take a few seconds.

This is the 3rd incarnation of a Cuisinart grind ''n brew coffee maker I''ve had. The first was the one with the glass carafe where you had to put the beans in each time you brewed. There were 5 different parts that needed to be soap and water cleaned after each use, and quite frankly, I didn''t notice a great improvement in quality of coffee for all the extra work. The second was just like the first except it had the thermal carafe. There was a vast improvement in quality, but again, so many parts to clean made me reluctant to use it. Also, unless you know exactly how to measure unground beans, you pretty much are stuck making a full pot of coffee. This last one has been a great improvement over the other two. I can make just a cup of coffee for myself in the morning or I can make a whole pot and everything in between. Yes there is a bit of labor to it, but considering where they''ve come from this machine is a vast improvement over the others and I can''t stress enough how good the coffee is.

I''ve read the other reviews and the main things I hear people complaining about are that the pot doesn''t pour fast enough and that the coffee isn''t hot enough. I don''t have a problem with how fast the coffee comes out of the carafe. It is a little slower but the difference is from a 3 second pour to about a 12 second pour. However, if that is unbearable I don''t see why you can''t just take the lid off of the carafe while you pour? It will come out just as fast as the glass carafe that way.

As for the temperature of the coffee, I am not sure how to address that as I''ve never found that to be a problem. When I do use the timer feature, I preheat the carafe at night before I set up the coffeemaker and the residual heat still assures that you are starting with a carafe that is not cold in the morning. Generally I don''t use the timer and get my coffee immediately after it''s done brewing. I also don''t preheat my carafe. When I get my second cup in the morning it''s still plenty hot so I''m just not sure what all the fuss is about. Of course I don''t really like my coffee scalding hot either so maybe it''s just a matter of preference.

I would also like to point out that I have recently remodeled my winter home and put in an $1,800 Miele coffeemaker that is built in and plumbed. It can make espresso, cappucino and cofffee with the push of a button. However, that has more parts to fuss with than this Cuisinart and talk about frequent cleaning! It does make the best cup of coffee I''ve ever had, but it''s not all that much better than this unit at a fraction of the cost.

The bottom line is this-if you want a really, really good cup of coffee you either have to go to a coffee shop and pay for it (and often I find their beans much inferior to the ones I use) or put up with the inconvenience of the home machines. As far as I know, no one has come up with the perfect machine yet, but this one does make a most excellent cup of coffee.

So when deciding whether or not you want to buy this machine I would say you would need to ask yourself what''s more importantquality or convenience. If you are a coffee fanatic as I am, it will be quality and this machine does come through. If you love coffee but are time challenged and can''t be bothered with all the extra steps then I would say that this machine isn''t for you.

Well thankfully I had read about this stuff online from others with the same complaint and I am so glad I gave it a try. I first tried it on an old stainless steel fry pan and it shined it up to look almost brand new. I then used it on my new fry pan and again it took off the discloration as well as some burned on things on the bottom of the pan.

Last night I gave it a try on my glass cooktop. I have tried every cleaner under the sun including special cleaners, bon ami, bartender''s friend to no avail. Now mind you my cooktop is a few years old and due to not being able to find anything worthwhile to clean it, it did take a bit of elbow grease and a few times over but it worked beautifully and brought the shine right back. My husband was amazed and I was in awe of a wonderful product that is also non toxic.

Don''t let the price dissuade you from trying this product. I don''t use near as much of this as I had used bon ami and bartenders friend in the past so it is well worth the cost for something so easy to use and something that works great!

I have been using this product (the powder) for about a week now. I love how it shines my stainless like new and the glass stovetop seems to be staying cleaner. Last night I did some stir fry in my 10" calphalon accucore stainless steel pan and there was some burnt on stuff. I soaked it as I usually do once it is cool but usually end up with a "film" which is why I ordered this product to clean them up. Well lo and behold the pan came cleaner quicker and also there was no film at all. So I feel that the way this product polishes stainless also keeps it cleaner longer so I highly recommend it.!!!

I live in Kefalonia, Greece and have trouble with hard water and the taste it has on this tiny Island. You can buy these filters here but have to wait over 60days for them to come into stock and they are a lot more expensive than Amazon. Once inserted into the glass chamber, and allowing the water to run through the filter you can definetly taste the difference. If you really need a quick and cheap way of filtering your water then this is the product for you. I have been using this now for over 2 years and it has saved me hundreds of Euros in bottled water.
