Filtron 30LD Deluxe Cold Brew Coffee System Save 4% Off

Filtron 30LD Deluxe Cold Brew Coffee System
  • Used for cold brew, hot brew, or milk drinks
  • Reduces acid in coffee during brewing
  • Cold brew coffee concentrate lasts up to 2 weeks
  • 1.5 liter brewer

I recently purchased a Toddy after losing my Filtron and just wanted to post on the relative merits of each. This might be premature but, so far, I see nothing to recommend the Toddy. With the Filtron you just pour the water into a separate container and it gently disperses. This is an incredibly low tech method of making coffee but I think monkeys could figure out that you just need a bucket with a hole in it to save yourself mess and time. Not so. With the Toddy you have to gently pour water over the coffee, wait, repeat... etc. Sure it looks kinda nice but it''s kinda labor intensive. The Filtron is simpler to "operate. It''s also pretty much bombproof. Make sure and buy extra plugs and filters as they can be easy to lose and hard to replace. These things do make amazingly good coffee.

The device makes 1.5 liters (50 ounces) of coffee out of 1 pound of coffee grounds in about 24 hours for 25 servings, depending on how strong you like your coffee. There are water level markings giving you the choice of making either 3/4 lb or 1 lb at a time. According to the manufacturer, the filter pad lasts for 14 to 24 brews. You soak the grounds for 12 to 24 hours, then drain the coffee from the grounds (about 1 hour). You have the option to brew again with 16 oz of water for another 12 hours to get the rest of the flavor out of the grounds.

Some web sites say that coffee made the cold brew way has about 1/3 less caffeine. The coffee does takes better, noticeably less acidic, but as I look over the device, I can''t help but wonder if it is an improvement over just soaking grounds in a bowl and then filtering them through either a coffee filter or cheese cloth. It is rather expensive for what it is. It''s rather lightweight plastic but since no heating is done, there really isn''t any need for it to be heavier. I suspect the price has to do with lack of economies of scale, there being slim demand for this product.

I have had my filtron system for over 20 years. It still works greats, cleans up great and makes the best coffee ever. I have given the system to friends and family over the years and they, too rave about the smooth, fresh taste of the coffee made from this system.

I have had this coffee maker for at least 30 years. It makes the most wonderful coffee I''ve ever had. Each person in your family can have coffee as strong or as weak as they prefer. Wouldn''t trade mine for anything.

I agree with other reviewers'' comments--a good system, a little pricey, but low-hassle. I do find the measuring-cup container for the concentrate tricky to use because its stream tends to pull back from the spout, so it''s easy to miss the cup on the near side. These are my only reasons for a less-than-five review.

I''ve seen little discussion of kinds of coffee to use, but I like darker roasts made with the Filtron much better than with traditional methods, and I can more easily leave out the milk or cream from cold-brewed coffee.

Being able to take concentrate along makes it easy to make great iced coffee and latte while traveling.

CLR Power Plumber Pressurized Drain Opener Plunger Kit Save 32% Off

CLR Power Plumber Pressurized Drain Opener Plunger Kit, 4.5-Ounce CanI have used this product on my bathroom sink, bathtub and kitchen sink and it works perfect every time! You cannot compare it to anything else. There are other products that say they do the same thing, but they just don''t work anywhere near as good as this particular brand. It clears hair, bath oil, cooking oil, food and other deposits in seconds! I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a fast, dependable and sure fire way to clear a slow drain or stopped up drain. The instructions are very clear and must be followed for it to work correctly. I almost look forward to a clogged drain just so I can enjoy how fast this works. I have used it at other people''s houses and it amazed everyone. BUY THIS! It is cheaper, faster and longer lasting than you will ever imagine!

I have problem with my bathtub for many years. Slow drain and then I buy those chemical to get rid of it, after few weeks or couple months, started slow again. I been doing this for so many years and countless $. Finally, it does not work anymore. I had plumber came to take care of my kitchen sink last year, after couple of hours of noise and couple of tools later, it clear up. But I had to clean the big mess he left me. I don''t want this to happen to my bathroom, which is in my bedroom. I saw the review on Amazon, then found a good price at eBay, I ordered it but kind of worry it would not work. This cost more then few bottles of drano or liquid plumber, but I am just sick and tired of the slow drain.

I got it and follow the instruction, few seconds later, it clear up. I could not believed my nightmare finally over just like that! This is environmental friendly also, I could not be happier. What a great product!

9/2010

This is a great product! After months passed, the drain still work very nicely, without re-apply the product.

One of my toilets wasn''t flushing all the way so I spent most of last night and some of this morning plunging it with no results. I wanted to see if I could find this locally before I ordered it online so I called around some hardware stores and no one carried the kit. I finally found it at a Publix grocery store. One "pump" and the toilet was cleared. It sure beats plunging over and over and over. It says that it can be used up to 15 times...I paid $15 for the kit...so that''s $1 per "pump"!! VERY easy to use with GREAT results!!

The old design used a wide rubber suction cup head that formed a tight seal and cleared clogs in seconds.

The new design uses a foam head that I have tried and tried to get to form a seal, but it doesn''t. No matter how hard I press on it, air (and dirty toilet water) ERUPT out from the side of this foam head, every time. I even experimented on a clean unclogged toilet and was certain to completely cover the drain.

I cannot fathom why they would make a design change that would not only be LESS effective, but COMPLETLEY INEFFECTIVE, thereby rendering the product USELESS. I can only imagine that it must have been some sort of copyright or patent issue... which of course causes all consumers to lose.

One star until they reinstate the original WORKING design.

For years I''ve struggled to keep my low-flow, low-profile toilets clear flowing. Well this product does the trick without paying a plumber $75 or more. I had to follow use with a little plunger action, but no biggy. The toilet flushed fine after one application.

PUR CR-5000 Two-Stage Water Pitcher with Flavor Cartridge

PUR CR-5000 Two-Stage Water Pitcher with Flavor CartridgeFor the last few years I have been hooked on those flavored water beverages. I would buy them at my local bulk seller and would drink all of them down in about a week or two. Now, knowing that this was a pricey habit I tried to find another way to get flavored water on the cheap. I tried putting lime juice in my water, it was good but did not have a great taste that I was looking for, I also tried adding some of those sugar free syrups to my water but that effort was fruitless as well. When I was at home one evening I came across the Pur Flavor Pitcher and it all came together. This thing is great it was on sale at my local super market and picked one up for little green. The included flavor, raspberry, is really good, but my favorite is the peach flavor. What is great about this product is that you can adjust the amount of flavor your beverage has so if you feel like sipping a fresh raspberry you can, but I find that just one squirt is just fine. The water by itself is also quite crisp and refreshing compared to my local water that tastes metallic. If this seems worthless, please second guess yourself because it really isn''t. It is a cheap, easy, and delicious way to enjoy an ice cold glass of flavored water without spend a ton on those bottled flavor waters.

the cartridges do not last long enough for the price, even when they function properly. I am on my third cartridge. The first one worked well enough, but it only lasted a few days for my family of three. The second cartridge didn''t work at all. The third cartridge dispenses about half of the time the button is pressed.

A few warnings:

---be prepared to push the flavor button several times to get any flavor at all

---the claim on the package that each cartridge can flavor up to 75 servings is absurdly optimistic

---the cartridge easily becomes dislodged from its resting place during use

---the pitcher must be refilled incessantly, as its filtered water compartment is quite small

---if you try to pour water while there is any water in the unfiltered reservoir, the lid will fall off

The good news is that the taste of the flavor additive is pretty nice, if you''re accustomed to diet beverages.

I was hoping to keep a few water bottles out of the recyling bin or landfill and perhaps save a bit of money while doing so. I''m returning this product. I''ll probably buy something similar in the future if a more reliable model is developed. Great idea, PUR, but poor execution....

Buy PUR CR-5000 Two-Stage Water Pitcher with Flavor Cartridge Now

(I''ve only tried the pitcher, so this review has nothing to do with the faucet mount version.)

This is not a bad concept for a product. In fact, I think now that PUR have made the first step, perhaps other companies (and even PUR themselves) can start improving on it and making it better. However, this particular product is simply not there yet and I do not believe it is worth the full price.

Purified, filtered water is an essential thing in every household. I''ve had a Brita pitcher for a long time, the "Grand" model, and I''ve enjoyed it immensely. I still have it. However, when I saw the new PUR Flavor Options pitcher, I was intrigued. I''ve often wished there was an easy, healthy way to add flavor to water. Sure, there are powders and syrups, but this particular idea, that the flavor is an option right within the pitcher, ready to be dispensed at the push of a button, seemed pretty awesome to me. It just so happened that I had a gift card I could use to purchase it, and so I did.

The first problem that was apparent right away is the size of the pitcher itself. After using the Brita Grand pitcher, which is fairly large and holds up to 10 cups of water, this was a real downgrade. This product is being targeted to families, naturally, but the size of the pitcher simply won''t cut it in a household of more than two people, and even then it''s a bit of a bother because you will have to refill it very often. The shape of it IS very conducive to small households and people who can''t spare any kitchen or fridge space, but for me, personally, the downgrade in size was a big letdown. Granted, this is a problem that was personal to me and I realize I could have known this before buying-it just didn''t dawn on me until I actually owned it just how small this pitcher is, for me. So if you''re looking for a pitcher that will hold a good amount of water, this is not for you. I hope PUR is going to release this product in larger sizes in the future, although from what I''ve seen of PUR, their pitcher variety is already quite limited compared to Brita.

The other problem-and this is a big one-is the flavor. To be quite candid, it''s not very good. Again, this is SUCH a personal issue that some may obviously disagree, but in my experience, which included the raspberry and peach flavors, I was very disappointed. The raspberry was by far the worst-if you don''t put a lot of it in the glass you won''t notice it''s there, but if you put enough of it to actually taste it, it is sour, synthetic, and leaves a nasty taste in your mouth. I can''t stress the aftertaste enough-it is bad. I am very health conscious and care about what goes in my body, and this product tasted so synthetic that I just felt bad swallowing it. It doesn''t really taste too much like raspberry, either. The peach is a LITTLE better but again, it just doesn''t taste right. I didn''t feel like I wanted the flavor in my water. This was a big letdown because I was excited about it before trying it out, and I was hoping it would grow on me, but as I''ve owned this product for a week now I find that I push the flavor button less and less.

SO WHAT SHOULD YOU DO TO DETERMINE FOR YOURSELF WHETHER YOU SHOULD BUY THIS OR NOT?

Simple:

Go to your nearest convenience store. Purchase one of the flavor packets, the ones that go in the pitcher, WITHOUT buying the pitcher. You can buy all three options, or just buy one if you don''t want to waste money. Go home, take out the flavor packet, pour yourself a nice glass of water (hopefully filtered and cold). Then hold the packet facing downward into the glass, and push on the soft rubber surface next to the nozzle. It will squirt out the flavor. You can now try it for yourself as much as you like without shelling out upwards of 30 dollars for the entire product.

I am returning the pitcher tomorrow. If PUR improves upon it, I''ll investigate again. Until then, the size of the pitcher is a problem; the FLAVOR, however, is a disaster.

I came on Amazon knowing that people would be complaining about the flavor dispensing. Why? If you leave the flavor lid DOWN then the flavored liquid collects in the reservoir and you end up wasting a lot of flavor (it collects and solidifies). I ran into that problem early on, but the solution is extremely simple: flip up the lid of the flavor area before you squirt. Then, as you pour, squirt, and all of the flavor will go right in your glass.

This really isn''t the greatest product for kids. They will undoubtedly use way more flavor than is necessary. Nor is it ideal if you have plan on having more than three people rush the fridge for water at the same time. And it is true that the flavor cartridges will not last as long as advertised if you give each glass two more or squirts. Of course, only one squirt is pretty weak compared to typical bottled water. (Then again, I''d say that the bottled stuff is too strong.)

I have to give this three stars because it was poorly engineered, for the aforementioned reason. A simpler solution would have been to skip the flavor reservoir step. You could flip up a cap to get to the button, that way you wouldn''t accidentally push it and get flavor everywhere.

Anyway, once you get it working the flavor is good (raspberry and lemon, anyway, haven''t tried the others), you save money, and your not lugging around cartons of bottles and dealing with extra recyclables.

I''ve owned this pitcher for two months and I haven''t had any of the problems mentioned in the other reviews. The filter lasted for 1.5 months and I love how the indicator light went from green to yellow to red so I knew exactly when to change it. The flavor cartridge also lasted about 1.5 months (using 1-2 times a day) and the flavored water is comparable to flavored bottled water. The pitcher fits perfect in our fridge and drinking a pitcher a day gives me my daily allotment of water. Also the water tastes very crisp and clean. I''m so glad I decided to purchase this particular pitcher because it works great and I no longer need to buy bulky cases of bottled water.

Heaven Fresh HF 707 Digital Ultrasonic Cool and Warm Mist Humidifier and Ionizer Save 36% Off

Heaven Fresh HF 707 Digital Ultrasonic Cool and Warm Mist Humidifier and Ionizer - with Remote ControlThis is by far the best humidifier I''ve ever had. Living in a cold weather climate (MA), I need the humidity to counteract the effects of dry air. Otherwise, I get nose bleeds all the time. I took a chance when buying it as there were no reviews for me to read. It is pretty much as advertised. The 1.6 gallon reservoir has an easy-to-pick-up handle for refilling. The cap is a bit difficult to unscrew, so I put a lubricant on the threads to grease it up which helps. It does shut off automatically when dry/empty. It''s very quiet and does not leak. I put it next to my bed and it doesn''t disturb my sleep at all. It''s very easy to clean. Use a little white vinegar once a week. Just put the ceramic nano-silver filter in cup of white vinegar for ten minutes and use a few drops of vinegar to clean the sensor. No need to buy new filters, cartridges, or mineralization pads. I have noticed a little white dust in the room, but far less than the Bionaire ultrasonic humidifier I used to have. The Hygrostat sensor indicates the humidity level. Not sure how accurate it is though. Mist output can be regulated: low, medium, and high. There is a button to produce negative ions. I use it, but don''t really know if it makes any difference in the quality of the air. I have yet to try the warm air mist, so I can''t comment on that. And lastly, there''s no way I can get 60 hours of continuous use without refilling, not unless I want my room to stay dry which defeats the point of having a humidifier. Two nights is more like it. You might get 60 hours if you put the humidity level at low or at a desired level of 45%. I can''t comment on how much electricity it uses and I don''t know how long it will last. I''ve had it for one week and so far and I love it. I highly recommend it.

I tried this unit and filed for a return after one week. I bought the unit despite it having only three reviews. Now I question these reviews because they all gave five stars and I completely hate this product.

CONS:

1) The manufacturer claims "High moisture output can quickly humidify a room up to 40 m² (430 ft²)." No way. I have a 10'' x 16'' bedroom and I am waking up with dry eyes and mouth even though our outdoor temperature lows have only been between 33 and 57 degrees Fahrenheit this week. I had the unit on maximum ouput the last night of my trial. It would only be worse when our heat is running more frequently during the night.

2) If you are light sensitive when you go to bed and you intend to put this in your bedroom then this unit is not for you. It radiates blue light in every direction. There is a bright blue light bulb with the only purpose of shining through the water tank. It does not dim and I can''t find a way to turn it off. The manufacturer''s picture of the unit shows a blue glow around it -that''s not for marketing, that''s exactly how it glows. It''s very annoying.

3) There is also a blue LED display that automatically dims a level after a minute or so but not near enough and there is no way to turn it completely off. If you put the unit on automatic to control humidity then the LED situation is worse because the word "setup" flashes FOREVER while in that mode.

4) Despite all of this irritating light there is no light where it might be positive: on the buttons of the unit and its remote control! I tried to crank the unit up to its maximum setting in the dark and even though I could see this bright blue cube of water in the room I could not read the controls. I had to turn on the bedroom overhead light which disturbed my wife.

5) From the same night-time-adjustment incident I discovered another annoying thing: each button press beeps loudly. The next day I could not find a way in the manual or through experimentation to disable the beeping for every button press.

6) There is no way that I can find in the manual to change the temperature gauge to read in Fahrenheit versus Celsius.

7) The company does not honor Amazon''s expedited shipping policy... but they will charge you for it. I ordered this way and they did not ship to me within two days. I had to email them and then a day later I got a shipping notice.

8) This product is far too much more expensive than other ultrasonic humidifiers and for no justifiable reason that I can discern.

PROS

1) The unit operates quietly when compared to an evaporative humidifier. But so did every other ultrasonic that I have ever owned or observed. That''s the pro of going with ultrasonic technology for a humidifier.

2) I like the promise of its "Permanent, easy-to-clean ceramic nano-silver filter for control of white dust, mould and bacteria." I did not see any white dust during my trial week, I can vouch for that. But will the filter last for a long time? I don''t know. My bet is that some plastic part will break from handling the unit and the tank at some point and one would need to buy another humdifier before this particular filter gave out.

For now I am switching back to my evaporative humidifier. It''s loud and it takes filters and additives to keep the water and air clean but it actually gets the job of humidity control done which is job #1.

We needed a humidifier for our lab and spent many hours researching different options. We chose the Heaven Fresh HF 707 for 3 reasons:

* Ceramic nano-silver filter humidifiers are magnets for mould and bacteria, so this is a must

* Built-in Hygrostat set desired humidity and it automatically maintains that level

* Built-in negative ion generator, excellent for cleaning and sanitizing the air

The first unit shipped to us was missing a part, and we urgently needed a working dehumidifier. We called the seller, explained our situation and the seller agreed to send a replacement by 2nd Day Air. The replacement arrived and worked like a charm.

It''s hard to tell from the picture but the unit has a very nice digital display that shows the ambient temperature and humidity. This isn''t the cheapest humidifier on Amazon, but if you look carefully all the other humidifiers have quite a few negative reviews. Buying a quality product is always cheaper in the long term.

Overall, we''re very pleased with our purchase and the great customer service. Would definitely buy from them again.

I like all the useful functionality included in this humidifier. Auto dimming LED, timer, humidity-level control, displays room humidity and temperature (even when powered off, but plugged in, of course :-P), negative ions (though I can''t say I felt it and I don''t know the spec for the -ion output rate), and remote control. I find them all useful. I will probably also use the warm mist function when it gets cold.

Only complaint, when I set humidity to 65%, it can only push room humidity to about 59%. When I set it to 60%, it works up to about 55%. I use it in a small (~160 sqft) bedroom, and I usually leave the door open by an inch, but windows closed. I live in SF bay area, where humidity level is usually around 45%. Because of its laziness, it does do a good job of saving water. With this relatively small tank (easy to handle), it lasts about 7 nights for me, about 70 hours.

Want Heaven Fresh HF 707 Digital Ultrasonic Cool and Warm Mist Humidifier and Ionizer Discount?

I''ve owned a lot of humidifiers over the years. The HF 707 is a minimally satisfactory product for basic humidification. The two units I''ve used have both reliably put out a lot of water into the air, which we need in winter here in New England. We use it in a 12x12 room, and regularly maintain 45-50% relative humidity, as measured by a separate hygrometer across the room (which I recommend you use, as well). The machine''s integral hygrometer gives highly misleading readings and should be cross-checked with another instrument. The machine''s integral thermometer gives fairly accurate readings. Both readings are thrown way off when you use the heating option. Like most ultrasonic humidifiers, it leaves a deposit of white dust on nearby surfaces, but somewhat less so than our previous Air-O-Swiss.

Order fulfillment is direct from Heaven Fresh, so I ordered direct from them as well. I ordered a black machine, and they sent silver; when I called to get the situation corrected, they explained that they had no black units and that''s why they shipped the silver. (What happened to back-order? They seem genuinely puzzled that I would complain.) They promised me the black units had just come in and they''d ship me one right away. Three calls later, three similar promises, finally insisted on talking to a supervisor. He promised it would ship in three days, and it did -and it is black, but from a batch they received from their Canadian branch, so the temperature is displayed in Celsius, not Fahrenheit. When I called them, they said they were out of US models so they shipped me the Canadian. Again, genuinely puzzled that that wasn''t okay with me. They offered (again!) to ship me a replacement -but this has turned into a too-long farce already, and I declined.

If you decide to purchase anyway, good luck. I''ll be looking elsewhere for the living room unit.

Frigidaire FAD504DUD 50-Pint Dehumidifier Save 12% Off

Frigidaire FAD504DUD 50-Pint Dehumidifier
  • 50 pints/day dehumidification
  • Continuous operation is possible when unit is located near a suitable drain
  • Electronic controls
  • 2 fan speeds
  • Low temperature operation

I received this unit free of charge because my old unit failed AND because I registered that purchase online at the Frigidaire website.

I originally purchased the Frigidaire 50-pint humidifier (Model FDF50S1) in June of 2009 [i.e. the 2009 version of this product] through Amazon.com. The unit worked perfectly for two years then stopped dehumidifying. The unit would power on, one could change the fan speed, but the unit would not dehumidify even though the unit was set to Continuous (CO) and a hyrgrometer showed the basement room to be at 49% humidity.

After contacting a local Frigidaire authorized repairer, I learned these units are considered "throwaway" meaning there are no serviceable parts (except the filter). The units are less expensive to replace than repair, so the manufacturer does not sell any replacement parts (except the filter). My 2009 system had a one year full warranty (long past) and a Years 2-5 "Sealed System" warranty (the sealed refrigeration system).

I called Frigidaire (eventually directed to Electrolux Home Appliances, the actual manufacturers of Frigidaire dehumidifiers), and was expecting to have to pay some cost to get my unit replaced. The rep told me that since the dehumidifier system failed (within the five year warranty) the unit would be replaced with a new 50-pint unit FREE OF CHARGE. Frigidaire arranged for me to pick up a new unit (this unit) at Lowe''s at no cost to me.

Since my unit was REGISTERED ONLINE AT FRIGIDAIRE.COM at the time of purchase, I did not have to submit any receipts nor send the old unit back.

Therefore, I have two summary points:

1. These dehumidifiers only last a few years

2. Make sure you register your Frigidaire dehumidifier purchase on-line after you buy. It will make the replacement process alot easier.

I use this in my finished basement, and it does an excellent job of keeping it dry. I used it when it was 98 and humid and it did its job. I had to empty it out about two times a day. When the temperature dropped to the 70s and humidity dropped, I emptied it out about once a day. I can be away from my house a couple days at a time, so I hooked up a hose. Initially, it did not drain out of the hose, but instead continued to drain into the bucket. I took off the rear two wheels so it tips back a bit, now it drains through the hose.

If you are considering purchasing this, I would look elsewhere to a product that was designed correctly instead of needing to make an adjustment. If you already purchased this, want to use continuous draining, but do not want to return it, either put some cardboard at the front of the dehumdifier, or take off the rear wheels so it will drain from the hose instead of into the bucket. Hopefully there are no other design errors with this product, since it keeps my basement dry.

FIRST REVIEW (2 stars):

1) The dehumidifier function seems to be quite effective. Our basement was really dank. After a few days, the difference is quite improved.

2) The machine does NOT drain into a hose. I tried all of the suggestions seen in other reviews without success. I was really hoping that I could drain directly into the sump pit, but that is not to be. The water does collect in the tank, so a trip to the basement is required every two days. Not the end of the world, but not as advertised either.

UPDATE Frigidaire is sending me a modification to the dehumidifier. Per their email of today, "We are pleased to announce we now feature a kit that once installed should totally eliminate the drainage issue. We are mailing the kit along with installation instructions direct to your residence. Please allow 7-10 business days."

So, if you are having the drainage problem, you need to contact Frigidaire via their web site and request the kit.

I will let you know if it works...

UPDATE # 2 Frigidaire got the parts to me in 3 days. There is a plug for the drain which leads into the tank, diverting the water. The other part is an adaptation for the threaded drain on the back. Installation of both required less than one minute.

Viola! Water is now coming out of the hose!

Although one must wonder why they don''t include the modification kit with the original product package, I''m quite impressed with Frigidaire service.

I''ve got a Whirlpool dehumidifier that has run ALMOST continuously in my basement for 6 years and a Kenmore dehumidifier that has run pretty much continuously in my garage for 8 years. Throw a little bleach in the water bucket every now and then ... that''s all one has to do with these two appliances.

I bought THIS Frigidaire dehumidifier for my bathroom just SIX WEEKS AGO! The electronic control panel has been "sketchy" a couple of times since then but tonight it quit working completely. I should have known better (but, alas, I thought lightning did not strike twice in the same place) because I bought ANOTHER Frigidaire dehumidifier (which I''ve also reviewed on AMAZON) just a little over a year ago and its electronic control panel ceased to work just a few days after the one year "warranty" expired.

So, I will never buy another Frigidaire or Electrolux (who now owns Frigidaire) product again for as long as I live. Govern yourselves accordingly with regard to these poorly engineered products.

This is for cold drinking water and doesn''t have the parts for RO or other water systems. I would be nice if it came in other styles for accomidating decor not just finnishes.

I had this faucet professionally installed by an experienced contractor that I have used for years on other projects. On several repeat visits he tried to get the tube to seat down in the body but it never would stay. I''ve stood on my countertop and pushed it with all my weight, but the gaskets just roll up and out of their grooves, preventing a good seat. Hence it wobbles and it leaks badly when turned on. And the gaskets need replacing now. I replaced a perfectly functional faucet for the sake of good looks in my new kitchen. Maybe I''m just unlucky, but I think this is a fancy piece of junk.

We liked the (apparent) design of the faucet and ordered one with what was supposedly a "satin nickel" finish.

Yuck! What arrived (in a box labeled Satin Nickel so I have no reason to believe they shipped the wrong one) was the color of dull aluminum. It looked like a cheap finish & did not match other items (Satin Nickel and stainless steel) in our kitchen.

Return was painless.

I had very good service on my order. I am disappointed that the faucet has a slow leak. The plumber who installed it said that is the fault of the design.

We needed a replacement and searched Amazon for this faucet. It''s head and shoulders above the faucet that came with our water filter. Îs solidly built.

Filtrete Under-Sink Advanced Water Filtration System

  • Provides ENHANCED reduction of chlorine taste & odor, sand, sediment, rust, and soil.
  • Installs in less than 30 minutes and offers 6-month filter life.
  • Maintains full water flow and requires no dedicated faucet head.

I am from the Northwest and was spoiled by the pure water up there. When I moved to Texas the tap water gave me headaches and stomach problems, so I started buying bottled water jugs (Ozarka Spring water). This solved the problem but is expensive (more than $1/gallon) and uses a lot of plastic. I bought the Filtrete system and installed it. The cost per gallon is about 1 cent, which is awesome. The quality is not quite as good as Ozarka Spring Water, but I feel better about not using so much plastic and importing someone else''s ground water that should probably stay in the ground there.

I will say the Filtrete installation may not be as easy as the instructions make it out to be. If you have standard stems (where the water comes out), it''s very easy and intuitive. But I had a flared stem and the compression fitting that comes with the system did not work. I spent an hour trying to modify the plastic bits before I realized I just needed to buy an adapter at the hardware store. $3 later I had a connector with a flare fitting on one side and the standard straight fitting on the other. The filtrete hose than connected in just a minute.

Be sure when you are tightening the nut for the compression fitting at the input hose (where the water comes out of the wall and goes into the first blue tubing for your filter) that you keep pushing the plastic tube into the fitting while you are tightening the fitting tightly. I used a wrench to tighten it well, but you could use pliers. This is important because if you don''t keep pushing it into the fitting or if you only hand-tighten the tube will get pushed out of the fitting when tightening, or will leak. So remember: hand-tighten the fitting that goes to the faucet (the output), but wrench tighten the fitting that comes from the wall (the input).

All in all, the quality of the water is good. There is a fishy smell to tap water in Houston and it deals with this nicely. The taste is not quite as good as the Ozarka spring water, but is definitely better than the tap water. It''s hard to beat ground water. But for the money, this is a very respectable unit.

It''s also convenient. The flow is labeled as 1.5 gpm, and I believe it. The flow rate is great where I am (fairly high pressure area). I could it use it for washing if I wanted to and I can certainly use it to fill a pot of water for cooking pasta. This is much more convenient than the Pur water filter which has a severely reduced flow when filtering. Also, I read many reviews where people said the Pur system was very flimsy and leaked easily. That''s primarily why I went with the under-the-sink Filtrete system. Also, the Filtrete is suggested by the National Science Foundation for water filtration, which I liked.

Replacement every 6 months is a deal as well since the Brita system requires constant filling and replacement every 2 months. And the filters are very reasonably priced considering the volume of water they can handle. As I said, about 1 penny per gallon for me.

I highly recommend this system. I only gave it 4 stars because I needed to buy a different compression fitting and because the flavor of the water is not absolutely perfect (it''s very good, but doesn''t beat ground water). The instructions should have mentioned what to do with a flared stem end, at the very least.

In Vegas our water is super-chlorinated. Forcing us to use a brita for cooking and coffee. I investigated other inline filters, but most of them required a separate tap installed -since we have a granite countertops, this seemed like an extreme fix. finally, here is a filter that simply sits in your cold water line -giving you filtered water to your existing cold water tap. It works great -the chlorine taste and smell is gone. It does slow down the cold water flow minimally. It is no big deal, and hardly noticeable. Installation was a snap. I would absolutely recommend it.

This filter is a snap to install and does a great job filtering water. If there''s any drawback at all, it filters the water TOO well. The filtered water tastes "soft," rather more like distilled water than drinking water. It''s a vast improvement over untreated Phoenix city tap water.

Do you hate the taste of chlorinated water? Do you live in an apartment where it''s a big no-no to make any modifications? Do you hate the aesthetics, flow rate, and filter cost of Pur and other filters installed at the aerator? I''m a big water drinker, to the tune of at least a gallon daily. After moving to a new city, I grew to hate the taste of the public water supply. At the office, I became accustomed to the purity of a reverse osmosis system, and grew weary of the chlorinated water at home.

Enter the 3M Filtrete Advanced Under-Sink Water Filtration System. It took less than 20 minutes to install. Since the tubing to my faucet was already plastic, I was able to simplify the installation a bit from the instructions, discarding the compression fitting adapter and one of the included hoses and inserting the hose from the faucet directly into the push fitting filter output. After running the cold water for 5 minutes to initialize the filter, I filled a glass. From the first sip, I was hooked. I''m sure there are still plenty of harmful chemicals, like fluoride and the prescription medicine that gets into the water supply, but the taste is outstanding. I don''t have water from the office here to test with, but I am sure that in a back to back taste test, I wouldn''t be able to distinguish between RO-filtered water and water from my Filtrete system.

The flow rate is ever so slightly diminished. My aerator has a small leak I haven''t gotten around to fixing, that used to spray a stream of water right toward my face if I fully opened the tap. Now, it sprays closer to chest level. Very scientific study here, of course, but what I''m getting at is that you can trust 3M''s claim that it has a minimal impact on the flow rate. My favorite part of this system is the simplicity. No holes to drill in the stainless steel sink, no extra faucet cluttering up the counter area, and the absolute minimum number of potential points of leakage (three, including the point where the filter canister screws in). If the staff from your apartment''s management ever find themselves in your unit, they''ll never know. When you move, you can take your Filtrete with you, as the installation doesn''t require any modifications to the existing parts under your sink.

Are there better systems available? Yes, a multi-stage filtration and reverse-osmosis system would surely yield cleaner water. I''m still giving this 5 stars, as it provides all of the tangible benefits of a RO system costing 10 times as much, in that it provides water devoid of any taste or odor. It is also much more compact (no storage tank) and filter replacement costs are much lower.

BISSELL Steam Mop Select Save 25% Off

BISSELL Steam Mop Select, Titanium, 80K6Review summary: Light and easy to use. Cleaned really dirty floors with just the steam from distilled water. No need for other cleaning products. Steam cleaning leaves the cleaned floors lightly damp but they dry quickly. Cleaning pad is larger than other models with a two-sided pad (13 inches by 4-5 inches). Comes with two different cleaning pads, one soft pad and one with scrubbing strips. Because the pads and cleaning surface is two-sided, you can clean twice as much area with one pad.

Recommendation: If you want to clean your floors without a bucket of water and a mop or scrub brush or without the chemicals and disposable cloths of Swiffer-type products, this will work for you. If you want to sanitize your floors (crawling baby?), it will do that but will take longer as you have to hold the mop in place for a certain number of seconds for germ/bacteria killing.

Now for all the dirty (literally) details:

I gave this steam mop a test like it has never been given in any demonstration you''ve ever seen for a floor cleaner and it performed better than expected. I have 50-year-old linoleum that has lost any shiny surface it ever had, so dirt sticks to it much more than it would on newer floors. The seam is starting to loosen so I worry that all the water from traditional mopping will open it up even more. True confession time: I haven''t mopped my kitchen floor all summer and it was really filthy. Under the toe kicks in front of the sink, it was simply disgusting. Add to that, I dropped and broke a jar of enchilada sauce on the floor last weekend. I used a dry paper towel to get up most of the mess but I knew this steam mop was on the way so I left the residue to see how this steam mop would handle it. I saw a demonstration of this product on one of the TV shopping channels and I guarantee that none of the "messes" they had on the floors were anything like the condition of my floor.

OK, enough about my terrible housekeeping. The package arrived last night. The box looked a little small for what I was expecting and that''s because the mop comes in three pieces. I pulled out the instruction booklet and it was really easy to assemble. No tools required. The floor piece snaps into the bottom of the main body and the handle piece snaps into the top of the main body. I continued reading the instructions on how to use the product and realized they recommend using distilled water. I have super hard water and no distilled water on hand so I made a quick run to the store. NOTE: If you don''t already have some distilled water, put it on your shopping list to pick up before your order comes so you don''t need to waste the gas for an extra trip.

Now I was ready to test this baby out on my disgusting kitchen floor. I wrapped most of the 18 foot cord around the hooks on the handle because I was going to first concentrate on the spot where the enchilada sauce was and that was near the outlet. I put the scrubbing cloth on, filled the water tank, plugged the steam mop in and waited the 30 seconds for it to be ready to use then compressed the steam trigger and ran it over the dried mess. Nothing. What? I pushed it back and forth a couple times and there was no visible change. Then I realized that the steam may be coming but the cloth was still dry. I held it in place and squeezed the trigger for about 30 seconds and tried again. It wasn''t immediate, but gradually the dried sauce started coming off my floor. The longer I worked, the better it worked. I think they must pre-dampen the cloths for the demonstration videos to make them work so soon after starting. And it took more than a couple swipes to get it off. The thicker the dried sauce, the longer it took. In fairness, if I were mopping I would have put some water on the spot then go elsewhere until it softened. And it emphasized that the "dried on" stuff they use in the demos isn''t real world dried on crud. But most importantly, the steam mop worked to remove the dried on enchilada sauce without scrubbing or pouring a bunch of water on it.

Then I moved on to the simply dirty parts of my floor. The steam mop worked much more quickly on these areas, but because my flooring is so old with no shiny surface, it still took a few passes to clean. But again it cleaned without a bucket of water and didn''t leave dirty sloppy water behind. Because my floor was so dirty (not to mention the sauce residue), the first side of the scrubbing cloth soon got so dirty it started smearing the floor rather than cleaning it. Here is where the new feature of this steam mop comes in. You lift the mop so the cleaning pad goes vertical and then put it down so it flips to the clean side of the cloth!

Last, I went to the disgusting dirty build-up under the toe kick in front of my sink. This was the true test of this steam mop. If it can clean this, it can clean anything. Without the steam mop, I''d have gone after it with a scrub brush and then had to mop up filthy water. I left the steam mop in place and squeezed the steam trigger for at least 30 seconds to soften up. It took more work than the dried on sauce but the steam mop cleaned it without having to muscle it clean!

Eventually both sides of the cloth were completely dirty so I unplugged the steam mop and carefully pulled the velcro strips apart to take the cloth off and put it in my wash. There are two cloths, one with scrubbing surface and one that is softer for wood floors. I like the fact that it uses washable cloths not disposable ones and that it uses nothing but water to clean. I wasn''t sure that water alone could clean the dried-on sauce or the seriously dirty floor but the steam made it work. And I especially like that the steam didn''t leave a ton of water on the floor -just a slightly damp area that dried quickly. I don''t want to pour dirty wash water down the drain but also don''t like pouring it outside.

As long as you don''t let your floors get as bad as mine (and don''t tempt fate by letting spilled sauces dry for several days on the floor), this should work for you much more quickly than it did for me. Perhaps even as quickly as they show on the demos (at least once the cloths get damp from the steam).

Next step will be the bathroom tile floor, which isn''t as neglected as the kitchen but where the scoopable cat litter that gets tracked out of the litter box combines with wet feet from the shower to put a gray haze on the tile.

My favorite thing about this is that I can clean my floor without getting out a bucket and mop and dealing with the dirty water. Because of that, I expect to clean my floors regularly so they will never again get so awful.

My first thought when I unboxed this was "This is all the water the tank will hold?" It''s a fraction of my H2O mop''s water tank. Second thought was that I didn''t like it being all the way on the bottom, compared to the higher position on the H2O mop. But it turns out that this mop doesn''t use as much water as the H2O mop, so that smaller tank lasted at least as long as the other mop''s larger tank did.

Annoyance unlike the H2O mop, it''s not a turn on / turn off trigger. You have to HOLD the trigger the entire time. That''s a definite minus in the comparison. It gets to be a pain when you''re trying to maneuver and keep pressure on it while scrubbing the floors.

The other letdown was that there''s no positive indicator that it''s hot enough. You just have to wait 30 seconds and then go ahead. The H2O mop had the power indicator change color to indicate when it was hot enough to use. Little touches that made it seem to be a better thought out product.

The plus is the double sided head. They include two pads, one with the scrubbing pads on both sides, and another that''s more of the regular microfiber type. The regular one works about as well as the one I''ve been used to with the other steam mop I''ve got, but the scrubber one really did a great job compared to the H2O mop. It did a much better job of getting those sticky spots where spills happened, or anything that''s still a little gunked up from my 7 year old. And having this much cleaning area times two, so you can just flip yourself around and keep going with the other side of the mop head. What this meant for me was less "cleanup" after the floor dried. With the H2O mop, you''d end up with some hair, crumbs, and such, here and there because it all built up around the edge and eventually would get pushed off as you changed direction. This one, since you can flip it over part way through the job, you''re not left pushing the same dirty material around until it finally works its way off of the material again.

It''s light and easy to use, and can work its way into places a little easier than the H2O mop because of the shape. It rotates and moves easily, and does not make as much noise as the H2O mop. That makes a low hum, like a barber''s trimmer, whereas this just makes some soft noises as it pumps water slowly.

Less water used means less time for the floor to dry as well, without sacrificing the cleaning ability.

If it weren''t for the fact that you have to hold the trigger to keep it moving water through, I would''ve given it a 5, but that''s enough of an annoyance that for me, it cost one star. Other than that, a solid product that works well.

I''ve used a variety of floor cleaners ranging from two different iRobot Scooba models, switers, a Hoover floor cleaner and now this steam mop from Bissell.

The primary advantage of this cleaner is that it works with just water. If you have very young children that LIVE on the floor (as in crawling) this can be very attractive because you don''t need to use harsh chemicals to clean the floor as nearly all of the other cleaners do. (Although the latest Scooba from iRobot uses an enzyme based cleaner -it is HORRIBLE at cleaning).

I found the Bissell cleaned well and the removable mop head easily washed. Environmentally, this is THE best possible solution.

Disadvantages include that this is certainly more work than an iRobot to USE (but this is less work to clean-up). Clean up is simple, remove the mop head and put it into the washer. The Hoover and iRobots machine have to be disassembled and cleaned.

Although it may be possible to use it on some wood floors the instructions warn against possible damage to the finish. I tested it on a small area of a wood floor and it literally removed the top coat of polyurethane (who knew -you can use this to strip your floors -just kidding, it obviously is not designed for that). The greater risk is that the steam can warp the wood. Clearly it is designed for tile, stone, and possibly synthetic (Armstrong/Pergo) plastic floors.

This is the first steam mop I have ever owned, so I cannot make any comparisons and I don''t know what''s considered standard or not, so I will offer my opinion on this mop in particular.

I thoroughly read through the instructions before beginning. When using the first time I filled the tank with tap water (distilled is recommended to extend product life, but not required I didn''t have any distilled), plugged it in and waited the required 30 seconds before using. After 30 seconds it took about 20 seconds of holding the trigger down for the steam to come through the mop enough to be wet.

Pros:

Easy to maneuver

Cleaned very well on wood floors (solid oak and bamboo), vinyl, and tile

Dried quickly

LOVE that the mop head flips over so easily so you can do a lot of continuous cleaning

Cons:

It falls down SO easily! It swivels so easily that it doesn''t stand up well. I have only been able to stand it up perfectly in a corner, otherwise it''s constantly falling.

I have to hold the trigger down continuously it would be nice if there was some sort of lock option to lock the trigger down when doing a large room or multiple rooms.

Overall it''s a great product and has been working well for us. I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 mostly due to the fact that it continually falls down! I''m so afraid it''s going to crack the handle or the tank one of these days because it''s so touchy. It cleans very well though.

We have a 1423 square foot home with all wood floors. The outside patios both have slate floors. The house is old and the floors haven''t been re-done since it was built in 1947 however they are in pretty decent shape. After using this throughout the house I was amazed on how well it worked! Not only did it clean and sanitize, the floors look better then they have in years.

I used it on the slate and it did an amazing job also however the slate is only a few months old so although it did clean I''m not sure it did any better of a job then when I just damp mop them.

Love the way the mop will flip over so easily also. Wasn''t expecting so much for the price so I''m more than happy with it and would recommend it to anyone thinking of purchasing one.

The only reason for the 4 stars is it could have a longer cord. For the life of me I can''t understand why these manufacturers don''t make longer cords!

Shark Bagless Cyclonic Handheld Vacuum Cleaner Save 9% Off

Shark Bagless Cyclonic Handheld Vacuum Cleaner, V1510At first, I was impressed with this little vacuum. It seemed to work as well as an upright, though extremely loud. However, it''s now a month after buying it, and it no longer works.

For being marketed as a vacuum for cleaning pet hair from upholstery and stairs, this vacuum has no internal protection against said hair. When I was using it one day, it stopped picking up anything. I looked at the brush, and it was not turning, though the vacuum was on. Upon turning it off, I discovered that cat hair had built up around one of the bearings on the edge of the brush and was preventing it from moving. Not only that, but the belt had created enough heat from friction that the metal "gear" burned a hole in the front plastic, and the belt no longer has enough tension to turn the brush.

I could find no stores in my town or online that carry belts for this vacuum, and, despite being advertised as having a 3-year warranty, the company seems to have no website or contact information online.

I even tried a belt meant for a handheld Dirt Devil, but it only works for about ten seconds before coming off.

Stay away from this vacuum; spend twice as much and get something that will last.

If there were a market for disposable vacuum cleaners, this would be the perfect product. It is powerful, but not designed for longevity. Starting the day I took it out of the box, it regularly overheated after several minutes'' use and switched itself off, unusable for at least an hour while it cooled. The manufacturer even mentions this in the owner''s manual, as though it''s a feature. The Shark consistently clogged with pet fur because the opening in the dust receptacle is too narrow, leaving the opening packed with debris while the majority of the receptacle is empty. Finally, it died completely after six disappointing months. There''s a reason this is one of the cheapest hand vacuums--it''s low quality, amateur engineering and won''t last. If you need something more, look elsewhere.

This is an excellent vaccuum when it can be used. We have used our mainly for our stairs where using an upright was next to impossible. It picks up very well. We have had the belt break in it after only about three months of use. We have not been able to locate a replacement belt anywhere for it. The website for the company doesn''t even offer a replacement. The manual doesn''t even show it as a component. So be prepared for the same struggle that we are dealing with!!!

Reading the pros and cons on other hand vacs, I was concerned that there wasn''t any hand vac on the market that would do the job well. I could not find any reviews on this model it must be newer and was concerned by the negatives I read on other Euro-Pro machines. I decided to take a chance and try it.

Well I was pleasantly suprised. This little v1510 Euro-Pro machine kicks It has very strong suction both when used on carpet, as well as using the detachable hose and crevice tools. It is right sized and not too heavy it''s very comfortable to use. Does a great job getting into corners too.

I got this because vacuuming carpeted stairs was such a chore now it''s a breeze. The v1510 picks up everything from fine dust to the dog hair my Norwegian Elkhound sheds constantly. (Pet owners this is the one for you!)

The only negative aspect I could find is that it is loud but I can put up with some noise considering how well it performs.

Bonus: The unit comes with a three year warranty 3years !

I have never written a review before, but after seeing these mixed reviews wanted to offer my perspective/experience with this vacuum. When I first got mine, it frustrated me immensely. Like others experienced, it would overheat quickly then need to sit 45-60 minutes to cool before it would turn on again. Then after a fairly short while, I couldn''t get it to work at all. I finally discovered the problem user error! I hadn''t realized that because it works SO well and picks up SO much dirt and hair SO quickly, the canister needs to be emptied very frequently. If it gets too full, it doesn''t get enough airflow and overheats. Since figuring this out, it hasn''t gotten to the point of overheating/turning off a single time.

But then I noticed that the cleaning power seemed to decrease over time. Again user error. I hadn''t realized how to properly clean the filter. In addition to emptying the canister, I learned that I needed to also take the screen off the filter and vigorously tap it against the side of the wastebasket, then reassemble. The first time I finally did this (after many months of frequent use), I was amazed at how much fine dirt had been caught in the accordion pleats of the filter. I actually needed to use a butter knife to pull all the clumps out. Now that I know how to clean it properly each time, I have no problems at all with this machine and love it so much that I plan to check out the full size Euro-Pro vacuums to replace my ailing current machine.

I use mine not only to clean cat hair off my upholstery, but also to vacuum my area rugs, bath mats, carpeted stairs, car upholstery, and entryway rugs. I don''t mind the time it takes to clean the canister/filter after each use, in fact I actually enjoy doing it because it''s such a good feeling to SEE how much dirt this little machine is capable of pulling out of my carpets and upholstery. So please don''t be scared off from this vacuum just take the time to learn how to use it properly. I gave only 4 stars because I feel this could all be better explained in the owner''s manual.

KDF 55 Filtration Media for Chlorine

KDF 55 Filtration Media for Chlorine, Heavy Metal, Bacteria, Iron Removal
  • KDF process media to safely reduce or remove chlorine, iron, heavy metals, bacteria
  • Great additive for filter tanks, use 5-10 pounds in a standard whole house filter carbon tank
  • Removes 99% of chlorine and heavy metals in your water
  • Natural, no chemicals, long lasting
  • Patented KDF process media are 100 percent recyclable and contain no chemical additives

I ordered the KDF85 & 55 together and it came together in the same package, so I will write one review for both products. Years ago I installed a whole house filter using two 20-inch Big Blue pre-filter stages. The first is for the sediment filter and the second stage originally was a carbon block filter. Well anything with carbon, as you know, will get fouled with time. My sediment filter was still working but my carbon block filter had become clogged and started leaking from the sides. So I decided to forego anything with carbon in it. I went ahead and bought an "Empty Refillable Filter Cartridge for 20" Big Blue Housing," also from Amazon; you can do a search and see it for yourself.

I had plan to purchase 5 pounds of both KDF 85 & 55, but I forgot to update my cart and ended up with only one pound of KDF 85. LOL.

I''m glad when you buy a certain poundage of media they always give you a little more than what you ordered.

The packaging is a little disconcerning. Both items together were way over 6 pounds! Yet it was sent in a post office priority box with very little cushioning. The crumbled up brown paper that was to act as shipping cushioning had all been smashed flat by the heavy media. When the box arrived, it had a very large gash on the side of the box. I was really afraid the contents inside were damaged. The only saving grace was that both the media were wrapped in thick bubble wrap. I do wish they had label the bags, the only way I figured it out was KDF85 was a pound and KDF55 was five pounds. If they were the same, I wouldn''t have known. Also be careful of unrolling the media from their bags, one bag didn''t have a ziplock top; I almost spilled it.

Post Script: Keep in mind KDF55 only removes Chlorine and NOT Chloramine. You have to look at your individual city water report to see if your city adds Chloramine to your water supply. Chloramine is like the ugly step-sister of Chlorine. Unfortunately, my city does add Chloramine. In order to remove Chloramine, you would have to buy media with coconut or walnut shells in it, I believe (don''t quote me on that though).

I''ve used this product together with kdf 85 to removed the sulfuric smell and arsenic in our water. It worked well and as advertised, the only downside to this product is the price. :-( but i highly recommend this product.
