NewCell Genesis 7 Plate Water Ionizer / Alkaline Water Machine Save 17% Off

NewCell Genesis 7 Plate Water Ionizer / Alkaline Water MachineI waited three months to give a review on this Water Ionizer / Alkaline Water Machine. It works a lot like a family member''s Tyent Rettin MMP-7070 Turbo (that they had to replaced after 3 weeks) but this NewCell 7 Plate is significantly less in cost and warrantee. Filters (that I don''t need yet) cost less also. I don''t pay much attention to the PH # and those things but no question I have now seen the machine "Greatly Reduce Two Life Long Problems" for a close family member that I wanted to help. They had stopped taking prevacid type pills, to test the thing, and they have not needed one pill since! Someone also has had a "life long" back problem reduced 90%. I love giving our water to others and most of them see a big difference. With others it is like; "you can lead them to water but you can''t make them drink" (Ha). That in it''s self settles it for me. So I order two rounds of spare filters and wrote this review after they arrived. It looks like this machine came with additional hardware for under the sink I guess. The machine did come with poor documentation, so I relayed on the family member''s Tyent info and much later I found a website that gave some information (). My unit has many buttons including 4 different steps alkaline and one acid (for cleaning), runs fast and right now I (and others) are on alkaline step 3. We all hope my machine will last a long time.

I have had this now for 7 months and it works great. I put it on the side of my cabinet next to the sink and it works great there. I have it supplied from a reverse osmosis filter to feed it and to give people just normal drinking water if they don''t want to try the IONIZED water. My wife has diabetes and has noticed that her blood suger has been much better since drinking this. This is a great product.

Ok to begin with I have a BS in Medical Biotechnology, an AS in Biotechnology and I have taken a year of chemistry courses as well as organic chemistry. These "ionized water" systems are a scam! Honestly these companies are trying to rip you off!! I have put quite a bit of time into researching this information and some of the websites selling these products and they are all making bogus claims. First of all there is no need to drink alkaline water at all! And in addition, there is no such thing as a body ph. Everything in your body has a different ph from your gastrointestinal system, to your blood, to your tissues etc. If you still aren''t sure please look at this article written by a former tenured chemistry professor. He has made the most understandable comprehensive blog about this topic that I could find online. Please read with an open mind and I hope you will learn the truth about these scams!

Black & Decker DCM2500B SmartBrew Coffeemaker

Black & Decker DCM2500B SmartBrew CoffeemakerBecause we''re serious about our coffee, we sold our old $100+ Cuisinart coffeemaker to be replaced with this much better designed and much easier to use coffee maker.

A motel room we stayed at had this model coffee maker. We used it twice a day for 10 days. The coffee was delicious and we found no minuses at all, so I bought one. We''ve been using it daily now for about three months.

The carafe is made of heavy duty glass and doesn''t drip at all. The hole to pour water into is large and easy to get to. There are convenient and accurate water level windows on both sides of the unit. The controls are convenient, easy to understand, and easy to use. The basket is easily removed for cleaning, easy to position, and uses standard flat bottomed filters. The time and function displays are large and bright. All of these are comparative problem areas in the Cuisinart.

Programming works perfectly and is so simple to use we didn''t need the manual. To set the time of day press the "Hours" button until it reaches the current hour and then the "Minutes" button. To set the "Auto on" time, press the "Program" button, and then set the start time the same way. Press the "Program" button again to go back to time of day. For auto start, press the "Auto on" button, which lights up. That''s it.

In addition, the water enters the drip chamber in a shower rather than a stream, resulting in consistently smooth and uniform tasting coffee. I can''t comment on the warming plate because we put what we don''t drink immediately into a Thermos for all day use. The warming plate shuts itself off after two hours if you forget.

The negative reviews are a puzzle to me. We found none of the problems mentioned.

This is an addendum in mid Nov, 2007. The coffeemaker still makes perfect coffee and everything works like new. The only negative I''d add is that the warming plate is quite rusty, probably because I put a pot of tap water on it at night to have chlorine free water in the morning. Often the pot is damp. When we need to replace this coffeemaker, I''ll paint the new warming plate with bar-b-cue paint before the first use, for rust protection.

This is an update, dated 11/20/07. The coffeemaker still works perfectly and still looks good. I sanded the rust off of the base plate, painted it with bar-b-cue paint, and as expected there is no more rust problem. I don''t think the rust would occur for most people. I caused it by putting a wet pot on the plate overnight seven days a week.

I drink lots of coffee in lots of places. I''ve had the terrible plasticky coffee from the $10 drippers and very fine pressed coffee from the shops.

This is my third Black & Decker (more on that later) and continues to benefit from design upgrades and improvements. I found this dripper to be the top of the line inexpensive coffeemaker. Mine came with the resusable filter, but I find that using the disposable filters (for me) makes a slightly stronger and better coffee.

The program feature was a little counter-intuitive for me, but only took 30 seconds once informed to master. Wake up to my coffeemaker''s aroma. Warning: The first time I tried to make coffee, the carafe didn''t push the sticking, new drip basket arm in and I had a little overflow. Apparently, it was because the machine was new and it now works flawlessly. But you might want to make sure it drips properly the first time or two you use it.

I mentioned earlier that this is my third machine from this family. It''s not Black & Decker''s fault that I live in an area with extremely hard, unprocessed well water. All water processing appliances (like my water heater) get clogged up with time, even with proper maintenance. These machines have lasted better than the old, bottom line machines I started out with, and longer than a more expensive one I bought.

Since the trend seems to be the production and purchase of items that make phone calls, play mp3s, serve as calulators, take pictures, play movies and change the cat litter box, this coffeemaker may not impress some people. It just makes coffee. It uses normal coffee filters (the flat bottom type), brews the coffee and turns off the warming plate after two hours. It does not do anything else. I, personally LIKE that. After all, how many mp3 players does one need? What kind of tech-crazy person wants to make phone calls on their coffee maker? Who can talk before they have had their first cup of coffee in the first place?

If you are looking for a coffee maker that just makes coffee and does it rapidly and without any complicated instructions that must be followed (who can follow complicated instructions before their first cup of coffee, either?) then this would be a good choice. If you want to film a movie with your coffee maker, this is not the coffee maker for you.

We have used this maker daily for about three years. The Good:

Timer, decent coffee (once you get the balance, keeps coffee hot, Pour and serve and reliable. The Bad: Steam leaks onto the burner which has rusted, takes more coffee than others on the market, overflows if you grind your coffee too fine or if basket is not aligned correctly. Overall we are happy with the coffee maker and it is still serving us well.

I agree with the reviewers who have said "what is the fuss about?". This is a GREAT coffee maker. I have had no problems at all so far and having owned several different brands previously, I would say this one is the best I''ve owned for being so inexpensive.

The automatic setting is really fantastic as you can set the maker to make coffee whenever you need it to. You don''t have to use this feature and if you want to, you can make coffee in the pot even if you have it set on the automatic feature and the automatic settings won''t be disturbed.

The coffee stays hot in the pot for a long time and doesn''t get any of the overdone or burnt flavor that I''ve experienced with some other makers.

I haven''t had a single problem with drips from the pot and think that it does a really fine job when you pour. I don''t know what some people''s problem is with this feature. I think maybe it says more about the sloppiness of those pouring than the design of the coffeemaker!

I can''t say I''ve used the interrupt feature because this machine doesn''t take long at all to brew a pot and I have not needed to interrupt it in order to grab a quick cup.

I honestly don''t know what the negative reviewers were expecting. This is a fine machine that does the job and is a great value for all of its features. It also looks great in the black model and fits very nicely in my stainless kitchen.

I highly recommend this coffeemaker! I am so glad I ignored the negative reviews because this machine works great and was a bargain.

Light My Fire Original Swedish FireSteel Army 12,000 Strike Fire Starter Save 39% Off

Light My Fire Original Swedish FireSteel Army 12,000 Strike Fire Starter - BlackLanyard is plenty long and it makes lots of sparks (after a couple of scrapes to remove the paint). If lanyard was not long enough one could exercise ingenuity and put on a longer cord.

It would easily light propane, but if you try to ignite a piece of sheet paper you will have trouble. Sheet paper is not fine enough and is not proper tinder (though you could shred and rumple it to make good tinder). You need a finer tinder bundle. Paper towel was also unsuccessful. I had easy success with toilet paper and dryer lint. It sparks more if you slow down and increase pressure a little. If the woods are wet and you can find no dry tinder you are in trouble, which is why most people carry tinder or fire starter or pick it up on the trail when they can.

I think it is easier to use the magnesium fire starter with a basic metal jigsaw blade as the magnesium shavings will ignite paper towel easily, and can also ignite paper if you make a dime sized pile of shavings (when igniting paper don''t set the end of the magnesium fire starter on the paper as when you scrape the flint the vibrations will jiggle the shavings all around). Even better than a jigsaw blade may be a short hacksaw blade because it has a good hole you can put the cord through.

In summary: if you carry or can find/make good tinder the Swedish firesteel is tough, simple, and a good product. For normal people who want a firestarter that is somewhat easier to use carry the magnesium. That is what I will carry, in addition to good tinder (cotton balls with vaseline mushed in), and a very good lighter (more lights/space than matches).

P.S. Just watched Bear G. in Man vs. Wild (Discovery channel) use this after a major rainstorm starting a fire on the first strike BECAUSE he had previously harvested and protected some very good tinder. He did not use a magnesium firestarter. It does produce a 5,500°F spark, but it needs a purchase (tinder). Also I want to repeat that the lanyard I got was plenty long, but hey it''s just a piece of cord that you can cut. Live bold. Also the first time I tried to make sparks I made plenty. I do not see how someone could not (unless they had the metal striker upside down read the directions!).

P.P.S. Watched Bear G. in Ecuador (?) NOT be able to start a fire with grass using this because everything was wet and darkness came in not enabling him to search for better (dry) tinder. With typical Bear pluck he stuffed his shirt with the grass for insulation and kept his chin up. I bet the mag would have started a fire.

P.P.P.S. Watched ''Survivorman'' take a mag starter out into the desert and easily start a fire, but he used the edge of his knife to make shavings and strike the flint. I don''t reccomend dulling a knife like this, use the back or anything else. Also he CARVED off magnesium and I have found just SCRAPING works well. Finally on the magnesium starter the flint is a small rod on the side and you don''t whack it like in Jeremiah Johnson, but you just scrape it. I think I read one reviewer that broke his flint and I bet he was whacking it, just like in the movies.

This is a long review because this is a survival tool and you should have confidence in it''s capabilities.

Firesteel IS a great tool for starting fires. it sparks great and starts fires no problem. it took me 3 strikes to start my first fire. didn''t need to scrape the coating off, either.

Firesteel IS NOT a magic wand that you can wave around and command a fire to start on anything. you still need to prepare for a fire, i.e. tinder, kindling, etc. and aim where you are throwing those sparks. It works very easy, but you still need to understand the basic concept of fire starting before you question whether it works or not.

I would definitely depend on this tool in a survival situation!

This product is terrific.

There is a slight learning curve involved with this product that breaks down into two parts:

1) You must know what type of tinder to use for this. If it is not good enough tinder, it will not light.

2) Realize that short, very hard strokes with this is the key. Longer, slightly softer strokes do produce many sparks, but it is the short, repetitive strong ones that create very big and hot sparks which will ignite the tinder into a flame.

Enjoy!

This is a high quality firesteel and works very well. It takes a little practice and some basic firebuilding skills to be able to use it effectively. With a little coaching even my 9 year old son was able to light several fires with various types of tinder. You need to use good tinder and practice your technique to get a good shower of hot sparks right where you need them.

My son recently did a science fair project where where we experimented with several different types of tinder and ignition sources to see which was the best way to build a fire in the wilderness. We tested everything we could get our hands on in both wet and dry conditions. Everything worked OK when dry but after we soaked tinder, matches, lighters, etc. the list got a lot shorter. The lighters and regular matches were all useless. The lighters (butane) eventually dried out and worked again)Waterproof matches still worked but you can only carry so many of these some broke and some didn''t light. The firesteel and Coughlin magnesium block still worked but it took forever to scrape the magnesium block, the shavings kept blowing away, then when we applied the spark the magnesium shavings flashed and were gone almost instantly. We were able to make it work but it was a pain and dulled my knife. Some say to use the back of your knife blade to avoid this.

The best combination(s) when wet was waterproof matches or the fire steel and cotton balls soaked with vaseline and some of the commercial tinders including wet fire pellets and coughlin fire sticks. We scraped the wet fire pellets and fire sticks and scraped the firesteel to send a shower of sparks into the the small particles of tinder. The result was an instant fire that didn''t blow out easily. These things lit even when wet. I can usually get a fire going in 1 5 scrapes. The resulting flame from the tinder was steady in the wind and also lit our kindling (dry sticks, pine needles etc) easily.

We gathered all sorts of tinder at home and in the woods and found lots of things that worked. Cotton balls and dryer lint work great. Any cotton or fuzz from plants works, fine dry leaves as well. I can light shredded paper without too much work. Fine dry grass (shredded / pounded and fuzzed up if necessary) and certain types of tree moss light easily. The finer the tinder the easier it is to light. Cattail fuzz is extremely flammable and lights easily. I had difficulties lighting pine pitch scrapings with sparks but included them in my tinder nest to sustain a fire long enough to get kindling going.

Bottom line is these things work and are a fail safe way to start a fire if you have basic fire building skills. This includes carrying or gathering dry tinder, making a nest for the spark, and having kindling and larger firewood pre-gathered to build and sustain your fire once you get it started. I carry one as an absolutely reliable way to start a fire if I need one. I also carry some waterproof matches, a Bic butane Lighter and some commercial tinder (wet fire or fire sticks). Of all these methods I have the most faith in the firesteel. It was also a lot of fun to learn how to use.

This "flint" is more expensive than the magnesium bars but it is a little more convinient for making sparks because it has a small handle and an attached striker (you have to find your own tender). I did not have a problem using the attached striker as another reviewer did. I also skipped the step of taking the paint off. I just scraped firmly and the ammount of sparks was crazy. My only complaint is the price but if it lasts as long as claimed it is a bargain compared to matches or lighters.

749 EZ Freeze Pure water filter refills (Pack of 2)

749 EZ Freeze Pure water filter refills, Pack of 2I hate drinking tap water, especially after I read an article commenting on how there is copper in your water. I already experience copper overdose, and drinking tap water just tastes funny to me. After trying other water filter bottles, none of them had the suction to actually get a drink of water...it would be all air. This is by far the best water bottle filter I have ever tried. And for less than $10, you cannot go wrong :)

I suppose this review addresses more the state the product was in when I received it than the actual product. When I opened the box packed by Amazon for the 3 different products I''d ordered, the box these filters were in was damaged a bit on one end and the plastic that looked as if was supposed to be around the box, probably for freshness, was torn and open. When I opened the box both filters were loose in the box with no plastic around them... not sure if that was normal since it appeared the box had been previously opened.

Not wanting to take the time to return it I went ahead and used one of the filters in my water bottle and was disappointed at the funny taste of the supposed filtered water. Clearly the freshness of the filters were compromised by being unwrapped. Yes I can send it back to Amazon and hope for a better experience next time but my inclination is to order direct from Cool Gear and bypass the possibility of getting a product that has sat on a shelf, unrecognized to damage or a previous return so Amazon can make a few more cents...

My local Wal-Mart never has these filters in stockI have looked for 3 1/2 months. No joke. I took a chance on these, not being absolutely sure they were the right size for my water bottle. I was thrilled to receive them and find out they are the exact same as the filter I had, if only for the color, which is no big deal. I will be ordering again. Much cheaper and more efficient than bottled water and easier to find than in my local store!

Jura Impressa J9 One Touch TFT Coffee Machine Save 7% Off

Jura Impressa J9 One Touch TFT Coffee MachinePros:

+ Makes great coffee

+ Highly customizable for strength, size, temperature

+ Energy saving features

Cons:

Serious usability issues

Low height of spout

More plastic than there should be in a product this expensive

Please forgive the length of this review, but for a product that costs as much as this one does, I think you deserve as much information as you can get.

I have owned a Jura Impressa E8 for three years and have been very happy with it overall. The Impressa J9 is Jura''s current top-of-the-line model and, at first glance, it looks the part. Gleaming silver body and chrome buttons and accents plus a color LCD screen make a positive first impression. This fades a bit when you notice that nearly all of what you see is plastic, including the chrome-plated spouts. Seriously, at this price point I expected stainless steel or chrome-plated brass here.

In front center, above the drip tray (whose chrome grille is pretty much the only visible metal) is the dual coffee spout. This slides up and down and the dual spouts pivot apart for filling two cups. (Note that coffee comes out both spouts at the same time regardless.) The height of the spout is adjustable between 2.5 and 4.25 inches, with the maximum distance between the spouts being 2.0 inches. I found myself wishing for a taller opening.

On the left side is another single spout which is used for milk and hot water. The standard spout serves as a mixer for milk, water/steam, and if you''re making a latte or cappuccino, dispenses both the coffee and the milk, which is a nice touch. The height of this spout is adjustable between 4.0 and 5.75 inches. This spout has a dial that adjusts how much air/steam is mixed in with the milk, which enters the spout through a port on the left. Into this port you insert a piece of silicone tubing (supplied) which can be run into a milk container or connected to the supplied stainless steel insulated cup with siphon tube. This cup is said to be able to keep milk cold for up to 8 hours, though only when full. The port is covered with a red rubber plug when not in use.

Below the center spouts are two LEDs, with a single LED under the frothing spout. These initially illuminate white but change to yellow while a brew is in progress. They go out after a short while after the serving is complete.

There are four hinged doors on top of the unit. The door on the left side exposes the water carafe, which is tall and narrow. A handle swings up on the carafe to assist in removing, holding and replacing. An optional "Clearyl Blue" filter sits inside the carafe with an extender that snaps on to bring it up to full height. You cannot see the water level once the carafe is in place an issue made especially annoying as the "refill water" indicator doesn''t come on until there is less than 8 ounces of water remaining, meaning that your last cup may not be full. The door on the right side covers a storage compartment which holds a spoon for pre-ground coffee, a hot water spout that can be swapped in for the milk frother, and the adjustment for the coffee grinder.

A small door in the center is where you would spoon in ground coffee if desired lifting that door triggers the pre-ground coffee cycle which is then started by pushing one of the buttons at the sides of the LCD panel within two minutes. A large door at the top rear surface exposes the bean hopper, which has an "aroma saver" inner lid and a plastic grille preventing you from getting your fingers near the grinder opening.

These doors on the top of the J9 are a problem for me. I have the J9 on a counter with cabinets above. The cabinets, and the moulding below them, are low enough that I can barely open any of the doors. I am able to, with some manipulation, get the water carafe out and access the storage bin, but the bean hopper is inaccessible unless I swing the whole unit around and out on the counter. Luckily I don''t have to do that every day. The side doors on my old E8 were narrower and easier to deal with, though I still had to pull the E8 out a bit to refill the beans which, on that model, were on the right side. Of course, if you have the J9 on an open counter, with unimpeded access to the top, none of this will be a concern to you.

The drip tray has four components. The large tray itself has two electrical contacts on the end that tell the machine the tray is inserted. The chrome grille (with a plastic grille underneath) sits on this. A secondary tray sits on the large tray and a plastic grounds container sits on this secondary tray. I noticed that the grounds container was made of a softer plastic than the one on the E8 and grounds tend to stick to it more.

Above the center spout is the LCD display with three buttons on each side. This is your primary interface to the J9. In normal mode, it presents six choices: Espresso, Coffee, Cappuccino, Latte macchiato, Hot water and 1 portion milk. Pressing the button by one of these choices immediately starts dispensing the selected item. On the top front surface of the J9 is a large rotary dial with a central push button. This is used to select additional beverage choices and to make adjustments. Flanking this dial are the power button and a P button used for programming.

If you spin the dial, you are shown all the standard beverage choices plus these: Ristretto, 2 Ristretti, 2 Espressi, 2 Coffees. You push the central button to make your choice, though if you choose a standard offering; it just takes you back to the main screen. Otherwise, pushing the button immediately starts dispensing the beverage. The double-portion choices double the amount of water used, but don''t double the amount of coffee ground, so don''t think, for example, that you can brew two 8-oz cups of coffee and get something good. However, it would probably work well for two of the smaller products such as espresso.

(By the way, in case you don''t know what a Ristretto is I didn''t the J9 makes it out to be a very strong espresso. Originally it was a "fast pull" of the espresso machine''s handle.)

No matter what choice you make, you can individually customize your cup, though the process of doing so I found awkward. On my old E8, I could select cup size before brewing and got mild, normal or strong by pushing the start button once, twice or thrice. On the J9, you use either the push buttons by the LCD or the dial to make adjustments, but your opportunity to do so is limited. For coffee and espresso, you can select one of five strengths only in the few seconds while the coffee is grinding. Then when the brewing starts, you can adjust the amount of water to be used in .5oz increments up to 8oz. For drinks that use milk, you instead select the number of seconds it will pump milk. For hot water you can select three temperatures; the manual says that "Extra Hot" corresponds to 203 degrees F, but I measured it at 170 in the cup.

You can, however, preset the customizations for each drink type using the programming menu and the "Expert Mode". These presets are used as defaults but can still be overridden while the beverage is being prepared.

When you first turn on the Impressa J9, the screen indicates that the water is heating and then it prompts you to press the dial''s button to initiate a rinse of the coffee system. This rinse uses far less water than the E8 did. Then you can make your selections. When you power down, it rinses again.

Ok, that''s a lot of words about the machine, but how good is the coffee it makes? Great! I found the coffee even more flavorful than what the E8 could prepare, and I had not even selected the strongest setting. The latte and cappuccino preparation was pretty good, though I found the milk foam to be no thicker than I ever managed to get from the E8. Earlier I got the Capresso frothPRO, which not only makes thicker, richer foam but is a heck of a lot easier to clean up afterward. However, if you''re making a lot of milk drinks in a row, you''ll appreciate the all-in-one convenience of the J9 just position your cup under the spout, push the button, and it does the rest.

Jura touts the energy-saving features of the J9, so I tested these. When the J9 is heating water, it draws 1300W, but I was amazed at how quickly it came up to temperature from a cold start, only about 15-20 seconds. When it is sitting ready to brew, it draws 3-5W. When powered off normally, Jura says that it draws 0.1W, but my "WattsUp" meter read zero, so it must have been even less than 0.1. There is also a rocker switch by where the power cord comes in (on the bottom right) that completely disconnects the power.

You can set an EnergySave mode. What this does is, once it has brewed, it does not keep the water at brewing temperature. This is indicated on the display. If you then want to brew a cup, you press a button and it takes 15-20 seconds to reheat, then you press the button again to start brewing. I watched my power meter when the EnergySave mode was disabled and didn''t see the heater come on too often. Jura says that this can reduce energy consumption by up to 40%, but if you want your coffee NOW, you will probably choose to leave EnergySave disabled. You can also set an auto-turnoff time which will shut the machine down after a period of no use that can be selected from 15 minutes to 15 hours.

The coffee and milk systems get cleaned independently. The machine will remind you to run a brewing cleaning cycle every 200 cups or so. This is done using a Jura cleaning tablet that is inserted into the ground coffee funnel. The machine then soaks, sprays, and rinses the system and then flushes with water this takes about 20 minutes. When you do this, you must place a cup under each of the coffee and milk spouts. About 8 ounces of solution get discharged into each of these cups.

The milk frother is supposed to be cleaned after every use. The usual way of doing this is to add a small amount of cappuccino cleaner (an initial bottle is supplied) in 8oz of water and let the milk tube suck it up into the system. There''s a cleaning option in the programming menu to do this. By default, it won''t remind you to clean the frother, but you can enable that if you wish.

On my E8, I discovered that the stainless steel filter/strainer, inside the machine, would get gunked up with coffee grounds and oil over time. Eventually this would prevent coffee from flowing and what coffee you did get tasted bad. I know a lot of people griped about having to send their E8 back to Jura for "repair", but I think many of them could have fixed the problem themselves. The J9 seems a bit less prone to this problem as the clean cycle does a halfway-decent job of cleaning the filter, but I''m going to show you how you can help.

I have attached three photos to the product page. The first shows the view inside the opening when you have removed the drip tray. Notice the brown plastic flap with a slanted edge hanging from the top of the opening. This flap is hinged and spring-loaded. Up behind it is the brewing mechanism and the filter disc see the second photo. In this photo you can see the disc after just a few days of use. The third photo shows the same area after a cleaning cycle has been run much better, but not perfect.

What I recommend is: once every couple of weeks or so, take a damp paper towel. Reach into the opening, and with your fingers (and the towel), reach up behind the flap (you can pull it forward a bit don''t force it) and wipe off the strainer and surrounding area. You may need someone with long fingers (or small hands) to do this. You won''t be able to see what you are doing, but you will be able to feel the disc with its central screw. Cleaning this regularly will keep the quality of the coffee consistent and reduce the chance of problems down the road.

Some miscellaneous stuff you should know. The J9 comes with one filter plus a water hardness testing strip. If you choose to not use the filter, you are supposed to test the water hardness and set the value in the programming menu. This controls how often the machine will prompt you to run a descaling process. The descaling tablets must be purchased separately. If you use the filter, you don''t need to descale, but do need to replace the filter every two months. Make sure you get the right kind Jura has two incompatible types of "Clearyl" filter. The one you want is Jura 67879 Clearyl Water Care Cartridge for ENA.

Also in the "Welcome Kit" are two cleaning tablets, a bottle of cappuccino cleaner and manuals in multiple languages. I highly recommend visiting Jura''s web site and downloading the manual so you can go over it before purchase.

I hope you found this review helpful if you have additional questions, ask in the comments and I''ll do my best. The J9 is expensive, to be sure, but if you buy it, you''ll get a machine that makes fantastic coffee in multiple styles, and quickly. I do have some quibbles with the design as far as usability is concerned, notably the positioning and size of the top doors and the quick reflexes you''ll need to make adjustments when brewing a cup. With proper care, it should last for years.

I have had a Capresso C3000 super automatic for many years that I was starting to have some minor problems with (small water leak, tray sensors corroding) and decided it was time to get a replacement. I work from home and tend to drink coffee most of the day so I''m looking for something that works reliably and for a very extend period of time. I started looking at the new super automatics from the Jura Capresso based on the longevity of the old C3000. I will admit, it''s the TFT display that really caught my eye on this one. I started looking thinking that I''d end up with a Z series, but the TFT display was what veered me over to this one.

It comes pre-loaded with default recipes for latte macchiato, cappuccino, an espresso shot, a ristretto shot, coffee, coffees, hot water, and steamed milk. All of the recipes can be customized via "Expert Mode". You can adjust the strength (1 5 beans), volume in ounces or mL''s), steamed milk amount (based on time in seconds). You can also adjust all of the parameters while making the drink without saving, which is great for guests. Basic operation is very simple and straightforward. The TFT display makes this super user friendly. Anyone can easily scroll thru using the wheel on top of the machine and pick whatever type of drink they want. Or, you can select most drinks directly from the TFT screen as well. For two shots or two cups of coffee, hit the button twice. You can also enter the recipe modification mode by holding the drink selection button as well. Grind adjustment is via a knob under the back right top cover. It also displays graphics of your drink while it''s being made.

The coffee seems to be a bit stronger on this than on my old C3000, but I love the fact that you don''t have to move the cup for lattes and cappuccinos. And, the insulated milk container (included) really does keep the milk cold all day.

I was a bit disappointed when I first got the machine and went looking for the "Auto On" function that turns on the machine at a set time to warm up. After I really started using the machine, I realized this was really not needed. It''s typically heated up and ready to go by the time I get the milk container out of the fridge and connected.

Maintenance and Cleaning: If you use steamed milk, I highly suggest changing the setting to display the "Rinse Milk System" prompt to appear right after using. The default is 10 minutes, and you cannot select this rinse from the Maintenance menu. The quicker you rinse out the milk residue, the less likely you are to get clogs. The manual also suggests to use the Jura Cappuccino Cleaner daily. I tend to rinse often and do a breakdown cleaning of the milk system and frother about every other day.

The drip tray on the J9 TFT is very different that what I was used to on the C3000. It has 4 parts (bottom tray, top tray, grinds container, and grill) but the material seems much easier to clean that the drip tray on my C3000.

There is a bar graph style indicator in the Maintenance menu that shows you when cleaning and filter changes are due. I''ve always cleaned my old one as least once a month with a tablet and about once a week using a cleaning cycle with just water. This machine does use the new Clearyl Blue filters.

One other thing, the coffee only dispenser does not rise up high enough to use with any of the travel mugs that I have, but the milk frother/coffee dispenser side does.

Overall, very happy with my purchase so far. It has the Jura quality that I''m used to, makes great coffee, everything can be customized, easy to clean, and has a neat screen on the front :-)

If you are reading this, you are likely both a gadget lover and a coffee enthusiast, or are considering the J9 as a gift for someone who fits that description. Having tested it for a month and a half, I am still finding surprisingly thoughtful aspects. For example, I found that holding down any button while coffee or milk is pouring prompts you to let it know when you have as much as you want. This is perfect for those odd size cups you can''t estimate the volume of, or adding milk foam to the top of a cup of hot tea. It is this attention to detail that really defines the experience with this coffee machine.

Because others have given very good lengthy reviews, with even more available on Youtube, I will give my brief thoughts:

FLAVOR

As expected from the Jura brand, the flavor is excellent. More accurately, the flavor is finely tuned to the user, as the way it is brewed, including strength and grind, is very customizable. Regardless of how you like your coffee, the J9 will likely make it just right and consistently. I have used both very high end and standard beans, and was pleased with both, in the sense that the best flavor and consistency was brought out of both. Of course, the better bean gave the better coffee. Different coffee types are all produced equally well, with black coffee being something beyond the typical office brew and espresso having a beautiful crema and serious punch. A filter is integrated to give better water quality as well, though it can be left out if you want to avoid the cost of replacing it.

INTERFACE

The screen, which seems to add a hefty sum to the price, could be considered a gimmick. For some reason, they brag that it is TFT in the product name, though that is not an impressive screen technology. However, having a screen and buttons (no touch interface) allows for simple and intuitive customization. You can set every parameter of each coffee type quickly and without ever looking at the manual. This makes customization something everyone can have fun with, rather than a daunting task for the professional. If you purchase this unit, I recommend playing with the settings and creating your ideal coffees rather than sticking with the presets. It is a primary reason to own a fancy coffee machine. Some changes can also be made on the fly, such as the above mentioned ability to change the volume of coffee and milk.

CLEANING

The machine includes some consumables for the cleaning, of which extra will need to be purchased (or DIYed) as needed. Other than this issue, cleaning is a breeze. The machine lets you know when it needs to run self-cleaning modes, if you don''t do it first, and they are automated. The coffee grounds are ejected as cute pellets and can be thrown away more regularly. The tray will not let itself overflow, because it has sensors to let you know it is time to empty it.

DESIGN

This is my only real sticking point with the machine. For something in this price range, it is sub par. Other than the front plate and tray lid, it is largely made of plastic. The silver color is painted on and easily scratched off, revealing the black plastic underneath. It is strange that they did not at least use silver plastic to avoid scratches showing. Those scratches might occur while trying to open the top flaps, since the unit is a bit too tall to fit under a standard kitchen cabinet. The spouts on the front are chrome plated and feel cheap. Also, the chrome plated wheel on the top for menu navigation does not have smooth movement and feels very plasticky.

Other than the strange design compromises, the J9 is a really wonderful coffee machine. I can not imagine anyone being disappointed with it in that regard.

This coffee maker exceeds all my expectations. It''s quick to program the drinks to your specifications. Machine is easy to use and even easier to clean. It is worth every penny.

Update: Thank goodness for Amazon. Jura has no customer service. One week after purchase the machine started having trouble making espresso. I tried all their troubleshooting methods; increasing the grind, cleaning, and descaling. By week two, the machine could only steam milk. I called Jura and left multiple messages. I also emailed them. After no response I submitted a return to Amazon. They took back this expensive paperweight, paid for shipping, and gave me a full refund. Again I say, thank goodness for Amazon. I still haven''t heard a word from Jura. Bottom line: this machine is a lemon

All instructions were followed exactly according to the manual. Defective machines happen, but ignoring them loses customers.

This is our third Jura Capresso machine, and, although we just got it, we can already tell that it''s an outstanding machine!

Prior to this, we started with a basic Jura Capresso Impressa machine, and then moved to a Jura Capresso ENA4 when the Impressa gave out on us after a few years. Before that, we had had a Saeco automatic machine, but we''ve found that we prefer the Jura brand overall: it puts out stronger coffee, looks sleeker out in the kitchen, and is easier to clean and upkeep.

Since a lot of this machine is automated, it definitely has more of a learning curve to it. Fortunately, the instruction manual it comes with is very thorough, and I hope to read through it a few times since I tend to be a bit more technically challenged. It took us about an hour to set it up, read through the basic instructions, and make our first espresso with it. (We don''t plan on getting much sleep tonight since we''ve been playing barista since it arrived a few hours ago!)

The many programmable features, however, make it wonderful, and I love the fact that it comes with pre-programmed settings. It has programmed settings to easily and quickly make the following items: espresso, coffee, cappuccino, latte macchiato, hot water, or hot milk, as well as doubles of anything.

You can also pre-program the sizes of your drink. We''ve found this to be really convenient with our last automated Jura since we like to have pre-set drink sizes for our morning to-go coffees.

My husband uses just cream in his coffee and espresso, but I usually drink mine as caffe lattes. For such, I use either skim milk or soy milk, and it has steamed both beautifully, leaving me with wonderful foam, if I desire it. I can already tell that the metal frothing can it comes with is going to be a pain to clean since it''s not dishwasher-safe and has a plastic tube that I can see becoming clogged rather easily. Despite that, it froths really well! Instead of putting a steel frothing pitcher under a pipette/tube as I''ve done with previous models, you use a plastic tube; you attach one end of the tube into a small hole in the frothing device, and the other end into your pitcher of milk. The Impressa knows exactly how much milk to steam and foam, based on the type of coffee you select (cappuccino or macchiato) and the size of your brew. This is one smart machine!

One big piece of advice is that when you have an automatic machine like this, you shouldn''t use oily or greasy beans. We buy beans from a local coffee brewer or stock up on the Lavazza Super Crema Espresso beans and get them on Subscribe and Save from Amazon. Using the proper beans will ensure that you have a nice crema on the top of your coffee. The type of beans you use makes a huge difference in the quality of the coffee a machine like this makes, and we''ve found that the Jura makes cafeor restaurant-quality espresso.

Be warned, too, that the upkeep of Jura machines is also more expensive than that of a Saeco. The cleaning tablets and Clearyl filters you have to buy can add up, so just know that upkeep of this machine is another cost to factor in. I think we have to replace the filter about once every three to four months on our last machine, and that is with us making about five to ten shots of coffee/espresso each day.

Overall, we love our Jura so far, and know we''ll love it as much as we''ve loved our last two! It''s one of our more expensive household "toys," but, if you''re serious about your coffee, you''ll love having one of these coffee centers. After all, it''s the little things in life that make a difference, right?

I will also be sure to update my review as we use this more.

UPDATE ON 10/30/11: As we''ve used this more, I''ve come across a few more negatives that I wanted to be sure to include in my review:

* the instruction manual is much too brief; we''ve had to find online reviews and forums to find ways to program the machine to suit our needs (the Jura website hasn''t been any help)

*the plastic material used to make this isn''t as nice as it could be; after only owning it for a few days, we already have a knick/scratch on the front; we''re really careful with our possessions, and aren''t even sure how this happened; the plastic dredge drawer could also feel more substantial

*it''s a bit frustrating that you can only steam milk by using the plastic tube, which is hard to clean; this does make for perfect foam, but I prefer our older, more traditional model, whereby you frothed/steamed milk under a tube in a steel pitcher

Overall, though, I''m still keeping my five-star review for this since it makes excellent coffee!

UPDATE ON 12/31/11: I also wanted to add that if you use the milk frothing system on a regular basis, you will definitely want to run the cleaning liquid (one bottle of which is included with the machine) through the system every few days. The manual suggests doing this every day, but I''ve found that every four to five days works fine. It only takes a few minutes to do so, and it makes a difference in the foaming of the milk.

  • Perfect for residentail customers when water pressure is below 45PSI
  • Free upgrade with Luxury Faucet ($30 retail value), an accent to your kitchen
  • All filters and membrane are standard 10" size, very affordable for replacements

Purchased this particular system from 123Filter here on Amazon last week. Installation instructions for this particular system leave much to be desired, and I actually believe they are non-existent for this particular 6 stage alkaline with pump system. Received installation instructions for a 5 stage no pump system not for this 6 stage alkaline pump system. But figured it out. You more than likely will need a 1/2 to 1/2 water supply line and a 1/2 nipple to install the system. The quality of the actual plastic components and pump seem fine, but the 1/2" supply water adapter and ball valve is low quality chrome IMO. But it works. Under "Product Highlights" on the Amazon page, it states that there is a Free upgrade to a 4 Gallon NSF plastic tank, I did not receive that tank and have emailed the seller requesting this advertised tank and will update my review upon hearing from the seller. Also, instructions said to drain the storage tank once and your water would be fine to drink, I had to drain my storage tank 4 times before I felt comfortable drinking the water.

I have also called the seller several times during normal business hours to speak with a representative, always an answering machine. Try calling 123 Filter... no one answers the phone, however the Seller did tell me in an email that they try to return "some" phone calls.

Just received the email response to my aforementioned request for the currently advertised Free Upgrade listed on Amazon from 123 Filter, it reads.....Thanks for your email. The free upgrade is not available since last month. Sorry that we did not updatae our listing in time and made you confused.

Their listing didn''t make me confused, it "clearly" stated Free Upgrade. So, 123 Filter admits to advertising the product as I claimed they did in their email to me. I purchased their advertised product in good faith, and they sent me a different product. I just checked the Amazon website and the Free Upgrade has now been quickly removed by 123 Filter. Nice. I will definitely NEVER buy from 123 Filter again as they have demonstrated an unethical business practice. The correct way to handle the situation would be to admit their error, which they did, and fill the order as advertised to the customer at the time of purchase...not tell the customer that they are confused by 123 Filters false advertising and blame the customer for misunderstanding what 123 Filter advertised in clear black and white print at the time of purchase. That''s known as bait and switch.

UPDATE: Now I received an email from Pearl at 123 Filter stating that if I "insist" on the upgrade they will send it to me. Insist? I just want what they advertised, what I purchased in good faith and what I should have received in the first place. Why do I have to insist on receiving that which I purchased from this company? They can keep it I won''t buy any replacement filters from this company and would "much" rather purchase an entire new unit from a company that answers their phones, automatically makes things right for their customers, and has a warranty longer than 1 year on their product. That''s the only thing I insist on doing. I also question whether they write their own product and seller reviews, as I see that many reviewers, have no other reviews on any other products. I will stay far away.

UPDATE: 123 Filter has responded to my seller rating by again stating there was confusion (again, there was no confusion on my part..I purchased what actually had advertised on Amazon at the time of my purchase, and they sent me something different, so there is a lack of ethical business practice demonstrated here, but the only confusion is they don''t want to honor the product they advertised to customers, at least in my situation). They say they offered me a credit but I refused, not accurate as I didn''t refuse, I chose to not respond to their email and take my business elsewhere. The 4 gallon tank they advertised, and which I purchased and paid for in good faith, runs about $60, 123 Filter offered me a measly $15 credit. That''s fair, right? Anyway, I gave away this system away to a neighbor now, and purchased a better highly rated Artesian system made in the US, not China. At least I have the peace of mind knowing that I never have to deal with this ridiculousness again, as I would be fearful of ordering advertised replacement filters and not having a clue what 123 Filter might actually send me.

Installation is a breeze. Most of the parts are already connected and I had to only connect a few flex lines. Pump is very quiet and the pressure is fine. I owned an RO unit before without a pump and a low line pressure and always had problems with it.

The actual system works well, our water went from 550 PPM to 60 PPM, plus or minus. The number would be lower if the water supply had gone through a water softner system first. The water in Peoria is very hard..

My issue is with the directions. I admit this was the 1st install of

a R/O system for myself. The directions, though detailed in some aspects,

were not in a logical order. Maybe it is the difference in culture between

the writer of the directions, and myself. Anyway, in the end, it all came

together.

WOW!!! What an amazing purchase this has been for my family!!! The value of having pure drinking water right at my own home is priceless. Before purchasing the iSpring Drinking System, I used to buy 4 x 5 gallon water containers from "Glacier dispenser" per week. That''s a monthly total of $24. That does not include the cost of gas and "my back". I used to carry those 5 gallon containers to my 3rd floor condo!!! I can payoff my investment in a year and that includes the filter cost. I cannot even think about the hassle/suffering I have experienced before this purchase. I am so glad I have found this item in here at amazon.

Here are the reasons why this is the best deal:

1. High quality, 6 stage drinking system, I was amazed by the taste and purity of this water system.

2. Easy installation, I would consult a plumber for advice, if you are a beginner.

3. Best bang for the buck. (If you don''t believe me do your research)

4. Filters arrive sealed, RO membrane vacuum sealed.

5. Very competitive price on replacement filters.

My Recommendations:

1. Do not hesitate to buy because of the looks of their main website!(Product is Very High Quality)

2. Install it yourself if your confident enough!!! You will get familiar with your system.

3. Get the motor!!! (Its worth it, it will fill the tank faster than regular model)

4. Make sure you have enough room under the sink.

5. Prepare to make couple of trips to home depot. It took me 2 trips.

6. Take a picture of your cold water source under the sink and take to home depot for advice.

7. Hire a plumber if your not confident enough. Make sure you read the manual for maintenance.

8. This system has automatic flush function, manual says find the "flush valve" turn on/off. Skip!!!

9. Check every hose for leaks. I had one leak from tank, Easily fixed it by tightening the hose.

I purchased this item to replace a lower quality system and am very pleased with the system. It was easy to install and produces plenty of water which tastes terrific because of the mineral replacement feature of the system. I suspect the larger storage tank is helpful in to its ability to keep up with larger water demands. I wish I had not wasted my money and time with the lesser quality and expensive item. the old saying really is true that you get what you pay for and I wish I had bought this one first.

Culligan FM-5R Level 3 Faucet Filter Replacement Cartridge

Culligan FM-5R Level 3 Faucet Filter Replacement CartridgeThe filters do their main job very well -one piece of evidence being how much less scaling there is on humidifiers etc. that I regularly fill with filtered water now. And although there is some inevitable slowing of the flow rate as the filter gets used, it doesn''t get unusably slow as some other filters do. I rely on the metering feature to tell me when the filter is used up.

Speaking of which, the meter is pretty good, but it can get fiddly. You''re talking about an assembly of molded plastic parts, so the occasional less-tight-fitting cartridge will occur. Right now I''m dealing with one where the cap, which holds the electronics, tends to pop off, sometimes bending the delicate contacts on the cartridge in the process. They can of course be easily straightened back out (without tools), and the cap reattached, but if you''re averse to doing such things (or physically unable to do them), the metering type of filter system isn''t for you.

Oasis D-165-HG GST Commercial Grade Dehumidifier

Oasis D-165-HG GST Commercial Grade Dehumidifier
  • Dehumidifier maximizes moisture extraction; provides continuous moisture removal of up to 40 pints per 24 hours
  • Includes an adjustable, dial-controlled humidistat that turns unit on and off at pre-selected moisture levels
  • Impact and stain resistant, polystyrene grille for free flow of air
  • Frost-free system prevents frost build-up in low temperatures
  • Attractive mark-resistant cabinet

The product has been running smoothly for 2 months now. Arrival was on time, the packaging was very protective, set up is very easy and noise levels are moderate. Hooking a hose to the back for coninuous draining is very easy as the hole is high enough to allow gravity to work well. I''m using the unit for a 900 square foot basement and the air remains dry.

But with such units, real quality cannot be discerned for four to five years. That is when low quality unit issues emerge, such as coolant leakage or other compressor failures. So while I rate this unit very high, I can''t say that with certainty over the long run

The unit is made in Poland. The country is encouraging high quality manufacturing at lower than German costs, but better than Chinese made products. I''m tired of Chinese stuff failing so I am hoping this was a good gamble. Check back in another two years

Buy Oasis D-165-HG GST Commercial Grade Dehumidifier Now

I ordered the Oasis D-165HG after two Chinese manufactured dehumidifiers died, each after only two years of operation. Both were made by LG (one Kenmore and one GE) and suffered refrigerant/oil loss.

The D-165HG is a bit pricey and not terribly efficient but if it lasts a long time it''ll be worth the expense. It''s old technology using a Tecumseh piston compressor made in Brazil and a sealed Morill fan motor made in Tennessee. I know both of these major parts to be of high quality. The remaining materials and workmanship appear to be good.

Packaging for shipping wasn''t so great. It was covered by a cardboard box and strapped to a tiny skid. When it arrived the bucket full light was pushed out of the front panel. I pushed it back in. When powered up it worked perfectly with one exception, a rattle when the hot gas defrost cycle kicked on. I found there are two rows of expansion coils and the rear most row was pushed in, so it tapped against the front row when the solenoid opened. I gently pulled them apart and no more knocking.

It''s a very quiet unit and it pulled the cool basement humidity down as quickly as the two 65 pints/24 hours rated LG models, although it''s rated at 30 pints/24 hours. Under what conditions do they rate these things? Frankly, I find the LG units ratings hard to believe.

The warranty is one year, customer pays labor and transportation. There is a five year warranty on the sealed refrigeration system, customer pays labor and transportation. So the warranty isn''t very good but I expect this unit to last a very long time given past experience with similar designs if being made in Poland means quality workmanshipwe shall see.

Added 8/20/2012

After some reflection I believe the reason the bucket full indicator was pushed out and the evaporator coils had shifted is due to the tiny skid raising the center of gravity of the package, making it prone to toppling and increasing any resulting damage. I also noticed a series of dings in the condenser coil fins that line up with the bottom ends of the innermost section of the evaporator coil. I believe that during shipment the package tipped over onto the face side of the dehumidifier.

I ordered one of these dehumidifiers and it did not work. Because of my long search for a good dehumidifier I ended up learning about them. So I decided to troubleshoot it a little. I found out that the coils were not cold behind the filter on the top back of the unit. I opened the front cover (three Phillips screws underneath) and found that when I turned the unit on the compressor did not turn on. Fan and Compressor make very different noises, so If you can only hear air blowing, the compressor is not on. I saw in the bottom back left corner that one of the wires was off of its receptacle. I unplugged the the power and plugged in the loose wire. Then plugged the power cord into the wall and fired it up and the compressor coils instantly chilled.

So far after that issue it has been working nicely. This was almost a 1 star review. While I was poking around the insides I could see the nice workmanship and good quality materials. No Plastic parts internally. Hopefully it will last a long time, my last dehumidifier broke in a year. This is why I figured I should spend more to get a well made unit, because $200 every year gets more expensive if I live longer than 3 years. Which I plan to do. Will revise in the future if anything changes.

Want Oasis D-165-HG GST Commercial Grade Dehumidifier Discount?

The dehumidifier works well so far. We have a cold basement (around 62 degrees) that off-the-shelf residential models just couldn''t handle without freezing up. This model hasn''t had any issues with the cold. Front wheels lock so the unit doesn''t walk away. The only issue I see is the front plastic panel rattles. It could use some rubber between the housing and the panel. The water tank is a bit small but a hose can be used to drain directly to a drain.

Have this in my cellar going on four months now. Nice simple design. I use the hose attachment for continuous drain. It has kept the cellar nice and dry (100yr old limestone foundation). I am banking on it lasting for years.

Sprite Pure Spray Filtered Showerhead in Chrome
  • Removes chlorine, dirt, odors and more
  • Uses filter cartridge model SLC
  • One replaceable filter cartridge inside
  • Attaches to existing shower arm
  • Eight spray functions including massage

I write this review concurrently with my review of a Culligan WSH-C125 Wall-Mount 10,000 Gallon Capacity Filtered Showerhead, Chrome Finish to give you some history. Especially since there''s no history here at Amazon.

We''ve had the Sprite AM-8 for about three years now. (Bought it locally from Home Depot or Lowe''s.) It''s performed okay, except that the massage feature used in three of the eight settings, has been problematic. As in, stopped working.

We have a water softener on city water. No scale or crud. Even so, I soaked the Sprite in vinegar just to clean any crud out that might be in the channel the massage ball races around. No difference. It used to work, but over time, stopped working.

So when it came time for the 3rd filter change (we replace the filter once a year), I decided to buy a different brand filtered shower head instead. (See my 4 star review of the Culligan, if interested.)

Apparently we have high water pressure (new house construction, large plastic pipes) and some of the 8 settings-like fine medium spray and full-fine spray-were indistinguishable to us. Even if there had been a difference, I only alternated between massage and no massage. So three, five or eight settings? More of a marketing gimmick IMO.

From an ergonomics perspective I like the Sprite better than the Culligan. There''s a tang on the selector bezel of the Sprite which makes it easier to turn when your hands are wet.

And the Sprite KDF filters are clear, whereas the Culligan are not. The nice thing about a clear filter is that you can easily tell when it''s time to replace it. The media turns black. And the Sprite filters are a little cheaper than the Culligan. ($10 vs. $12 on Amazon as of this writing.)

The Culligan is cheaper out of the box and seems to work fine. Time will tell if its massage feature will work three years from now.

I give them both 4 stars. You''ll be happy with the Sprite, at least for a while. If your water pressure isn''t as high as ours, it may be that your unit will last longer.

I needed a new Pur onsink water filter for our RV as the original had cracked. I could only find the "new" style filter with a lever to turn instead if the water filter unit itself. Terrible! The design puts too much weight out in space and as a result it was constantly falling off when we moved. I had to look to find someone who still had the original type, but I found it on good old Amazon, ordered it, and it came through perfectly. We are now happy campers once more.

I agree that the shape makes it very hard to get into round and slick. The water does taste great, however, and the filters last a long time.

BUT the very bottom part of mine cracked and popped off. When the filter is OFF and the water is flowing straight through without being filtered, the bottom part of the assembly has an internal thread mesh filter end-piece the threaded part broke, so the mesh part popped off. I could have continued to use it, but without that piece the water was uncontrolled and splashed everywhere. This is not a piece that is under any stress, cannot be over tightened, and took no impacts, etc it''s just the mesh cap on the end of the spigot.

So now I get to buy a new filter unit hopefully one that uses the same filters, as I have several of them left.

I was so happy to find this and so cheap. I''ve been using this style of faucet filter for 10+ years. Researched many reviews about the new snap on type, most negative, didn''t like the look or reviews and wanted this old style. I bought 2 just in case I had a problem as others have stated about cracking but no problems so far and it''s been a few months. I have 5 adults in my house using it every day.

For years I paid for bottled water. When I had to start living on my tiny Social Security check, I went to the National Sanitation Foundation''s website and compared all kinds of filter systems. The Doulton System, which filters both chemicals and live organisms, has either the exact same NSF rating or BETTER rating than some of the systems out there which cost $500 and up. I have been using it for over a year now, have saved hundreds of dollars on bottled water, and the Doulton filtered water is crystal clear and tastes fabulous. The other reviewer who says the little part broke off the bottom, he must have been very rough with his filter. You do have to take the thing apart every so often to clean off the filter, but I have never had a problem with it breaking. I do admit though, that It is kind of gross to clean it, but you need to do that because the flow of water decreases when the filter needs cleaning. I recommend this system as A+++!

I purchased this ceramic water filter and found it to be the genuine article: a real Doulton ceramic filter in the Doulton box. However, it was a few dollars less than at the Doulton website, with cheaper shipping. Every penny counts these days!

The specs say that this is a very good filter. I have used one in my travel trailer for quite a while and never had any issues with water purity. Sadly, this purchase is to replace the one that broke after very little use. The nipple at the bottom snapped off, where it plugs into the filter housing. They''re pretty expensive to be that delicate. If the ceramic portion had been what broke, maybe I could understand, but this was the plastic part at the bottom! As for purchasing from Amazon, WOW what a slow delivery. I ordered it two weeks before an upcoming camping trip and had to take the trip without it, because it didn''t arrive in time. Since I paid for standard shipping, I was HIGHLY disappointed with the slow delivery.

I have been using these filters for about 15 years and they make a big difference in improving the quality of the water that comes from my tap at home. Water tastes so much better and smoother with this filter and there is absolutely no chlorine odor or any odor of any kind. I check the filter once a month because they do get brown with time from collecting impurities. All you have to do is clean it off under running water with a textured sponge and reuse it until it''s time to replace. When hurricane Sandy hit my area the water supply was affected and this filter literally turned black from all the garbage that was in the water supply. I didn''t even bother cleaning it, I always keep spare filters and I just replaced it with a fresh one. I''m sure that this filter prevented me and my family from getting sick.

Simply put, it works. It also seems a little magical. How can a little mechanical device stop the water flow when the water gets hot enough? No idea, but it does it.

Attaching this to our shower was easy just a little plumber''s tape gave it a snug, water-tight fit.

Conceptually at first, it was hard to figure out how to use the thing. Was it on a timer? Could we adjust the threshold for what it thinks is ''hot?'' The answer to both of these questions is no. If you just turn your shower to ''warm'' the Evolve Showerhead Adapter won''t shut the flow off. Its threshold for what it considers ''hot'' might be warmer than you expect. It''s not set to wait for the water to be scaldingly hot by any means, but the first time I tested it after I installed it, I thought it was broken when actually I just hadn''t given it enough hot water.

When it hits the threshold for heat, it cuts the flow of the shower back to a trickle. It''s very clear even if you''re not looking at it that it''s done so, because the sound of the water flow clearly changes. Remember, it doesn''t stop the water, it just slows it way down. Once you''re in the shower, just pull the attached cord and water flow resumes to normal. Pretty simple.

I found one quirk: our shower has 2 showerheads (fed from 1 common control panel), and we attached this adapter to only one of them. Sometimes the Evolve Showerhead Adapter gets confused if the water pressure changes drastically like if we turn the 2nd showerhead on. When that happens, sometimes the adapter cuts off the water as if it just tripped its heat threshold, but pulling the cord won''t restore the flow. The only fix is to turn the water to that showerhead off and then back on. Not a big deal, but it happens. I''ve never had the adapter cut off the flow for no good reason however. Now that we''re used to the quirks of the adapter, it''s part of our routine.

Ultimately, you have to wonder, how long does it take to pay for itself? I really have no idea. I don''t feel like this adapter has revolutionized our water bill. I have to imagine that, long term, it''s worth it, but I didn''t see any noticeable reduction in my water or gas bill the month after the adapter was installed. But if you''re going to buy this, it''s probably not the only thing you''re doing to reduce your impact on the environment, right? Hopefully this is just one of many things you do, and I do believe that it helps.

I recommend that people buy this for any shower they use on a daily basis but I don''t think it would be worth it to install one on every showerhead in your house (if you have more than one, of course) if they''re not all regularly used.

Final notes: it''s nicely manufactured. We got the chrome adapter and it''s a nice, simple, smooth, industrial piece of metal that feels solid. I have no fear that it''s about to break or spring a leak. When you install it, it adds an inch or two to the length of the feeder pipe, so depending on the angle of the pipe that feeds your showerhead, expect that your showerhead will extend a little lower or higher or further than before (which may be a good or bad thing depending on your situation). Finally, if you have guests use your shower, don''t forget to tell them how it works!

This think does what it is supposed to do. You don''t have to stand naked testing the water every few seconds to determine if it is warm enough to get in. Just turn the water on and walk away. When the water reaches 95 degrees, it reduces the flow to a trickle. I can hear the water stop flowing in another room. Then I pull the cord and the water flows just like normal. You will save a lot of water and the money it takes to heat it without any effort. These things should be required by law. My only complaint is the cost but it has more than paid for itself in water and energy savings in the year I have had it.

I was initially disappointed that the Evolve shower-head adapter did not fit into my WaterPic massage shower head. I was expecting a battle with Evolve based upon my only too frequent experience with other companies. Instead, I was delighted to receive a prompt response from an Evolve employee who provided me with a quick and easy solution (i.e. remove the filter in the WaterPic shower head...Evolve has its own). The product works as intended shutting off the stream of water once the water temperature gets hot. When you are ready to get into the shower, you simply pull the cord to restore water flow. It takes quite a while for hot water to reach my upstairs shower. Before installing the Evolve Showerhead adapter, I wasted water and gas (heating water). The cost savings afforded by this device will easily pay back my initial investment.

Con: 1) the teflon tape that comes with the fitting is way below par. Use your own hw store brand. 2) Male threads need a large amount of teflon tape to be snug. I still see an occasional bead of water form around the threads.

Pros: It does exactly what it says it should do. My wife was skeptical at first (don''t mess with her shower routine). But after 1 day, she is a believer. You can turn it on and do something else for a few minutes not worrying about losing hot water. When you''re ready, pull the release valve and the water is ready to stand under. GREAT DEVICE!

thoughts: I should probably have gotten the full all-in-one unit and saved the minor frustration of putting my head onto this device. But it seems to be working fine.

This is one of the best products that I''ve seen to save time and money. Our water heater is on the other side of the house and it takes a long time for the hot water to reach the shower on the second floor. I use to have to check the water constantly to see if it was ready to use. Now, I can turn on the water and get other taks done while i wait for the shower to shut down to a trickle. I had it at my last house and I bought two for my new house. You will also save on you water and sewage bill as well. I would give this product 10 stars if I could.

Bobble Jug Replacement Filter (1-Pack)

Bobble Jug Replacement Filter, 1-PackI''m so sad to write this...the filter that came with my Bobble Jug was a dream. It was quick to filter and filling the up the jug took no time at all, despite the lack of a "well". I followed the instructions to a ''t'', but the new filter is painfully slow! I can barely go above a drip when refilling. I just have to walk away and come back in 10 minutes...no hyperbole.

Thanks been hard to find these in the stores, as of yet, so glad to find a place that sends it so quickly.

I haven''t used the replacement filter yet, since the pitcher comes with its own filter. This filter is identical to the original so one can assume it will work just at the factory original shipped with pitcher.

Years ago I used a different water filter product similar to this one. It took forever for the water to filter and after awhile just gave up. This jug and filter is GREAT! The water goes straight through the filter without the wait. I like it very much!!

Royal Berkey Water Filter

Royal Berkey Water Filter w/ 2 Black Filters and Berkey Sight GlassInitially it seemed that this thing was expensive for what it does (compared to a Brita water system). However having used for a month or so I find that I am drinking a ton more water than I ever did before. It really does taste better. I am not longer using plastic water bottles. I am using stainless steel Thermos bottles or Nalgenes. I am unsure if there are impurities in our tap water but I decided that having the piece of mind was worth it. Plus if we need to "bug out" we will be able to drink confidently from less then perfect water sources. Oh, my wife thinks it is pretty enough to be in her kitchen.

Overall I am 5 star pleased.
