BISSELL Healthy Home Upright Bagless Vacuum Save 13% Off

BISSELL Healthy Home Upright Bagless Vacuum, 16N5F, GreenBISSELL Healthy Home Upright Bagless Vacuum, 16N5F, Green

I''ve wanted to switch to a bagless vacuuming system for awhile, now -simply because constantly having to buy vacuum bags, remembering what size and model number, and "the extra expense" seems to be an unnecessary evil -if ya know what I mean.

For comparison, My current vacuum is an allergy filtration (as I have a couple of constantly shedding pets -Rottweilers and kitty cats), 18.0 12 amp motor, Hoover upright with 5 carpet heights and floor mode with an assortment of tools and is "not" bagless. It gets the job done, but has a few irritating problems. My home gets vacuumed, thoroughly, twice a week.

BISSELL Healthy Home Upright Bagless Vacuum, 16N5F, Green is impressive right out of the box. A larger vacuum than my Hoover, with a nice sturdy feel and in a pretty minty green color.

a few things that really stood out for Me:

Easy to put together, just 4 screws and one is good-to-go, as they say.

Large see through bagless canister -It''s really fun to watch all the stuff getting sucked into the canister... Well, the see-through canister may also come in handy if one ever drops an earring or the Kitty decides to make a toy out of Your Engagement ring while you are soaking in the Jacuzzi -and it ends up in the carpet -never to be found till vacuuming day. One could actually see it, in the canister -as opposed to digging through a funky bag of debris -as with my Hoover).

15" wide sweeper head, with rubberized bumper guards -gets the job done a lot faster! ''nuf said! :)

A large height adjustment dial with 6 carpet heights and a bare floor mode. Dial is easy to read, and turn, for desired selection.

Very long cord -the vacuum also has a quick release cord thingy so one does not have to spend a lot of time unwinding.

2 button, fingertip, operation on handle -"Power On" and "Brush". a "plus" if ya ask me, as I do not want the brush rotating when I''m using the attachments, or vacuuming a floor with a hard surface.

Wide foot pedal, on left, for releasing vacuum from upright position.

Large back wheels -the wheels roll very well on My ceramic and vinyl tiles without scratching or leaving indentations. the BISSELL Healthy Home Upright Bagless Vacuum, 16N5F glided over My carpeted areas -which are a deep plush with thick padding -without dragging.

A wonderful assortment of attachment tools like a TurboBrush Tool (great for cleaning fabric furniture and stairs), Combination Brush, Crevice Tool, and a Telescoping Extension Wand for getting hard to reach places.

BISSELL Healthy Home Upright Bagless Vacuum, 16N5F, is not as eardrum piercingly loud as my Hoover. Actually, the hum of the vacuum is rather pleasant.

Clean-up is a breeze! Just press large button on top of see through dirt canister to release from vacuum, press large button at bottom of canister to open bottom...empty into trash container. tip: pet hair seems to not want to come out easily, but just get out one of those unused chopsticks (most have in kitchen drawer) and gently poke pet hair debris to loosen. When finished, close bottom lid and snap canister back in place. Easy! :)

The three filters are easy to get to for maintenance.

...there are many more features to explore.

Does the BISSELL Healthy Home Upright Bagless Vacuum, 16N5F, sound like what you may be looking for? :) A Pleasure to use! *wonders what to spend all the extra money on that usually went to vacuum bags* Highly Recommended! --Katharena Eiermann, 2012

I''ve (recently) reviewed the BISSELL OptiClean Pet Upright Vacuum, Bronze, 30C7T, an excellent machine, imo, if one has shedding Pets! :)

The brush on this vacuum is powerful. My wife was trying it out when she said that the vacuum felt like it was pulling itself across the carpet. The main suction is also very strong. It did a great job cleaning up the carpet and the hardwood floor. It has a nice handle in the front for carrying and a very long cord.

I had a problem with the brushing attachment on the telescoping pole. It uses suction to spin the brush, and it spins up fine but as soon as it contacts anything it stops rendering it useless. Nothing appear to be cracked or missing in the attachment. I think there may be some air escaping out of the telescoping pole. I didn''t have this issue with the brushing attachment for the the BISSELL 58F83 Rewind SmartClean, Blue model.

Pro: Good Suction on the main vacuum

Pro: has carrying handle

Pro: has hose and attachments

Pro: bag-less

Pro: strong agitating brush

Pro: Large headlight

Pro: Long cord

Con: Weak brushing attachment power

Con: Heavy

We liked our old vacuum but we wanted more and what we wanted cost too much. When we saw this vacuum at a reasonable price we figured we''d give it a try. The day it arrived my husband wanted to try it out right away and the next thing I knew, the entire house was vacuumed. Even the wooden floors! This vacuum is so versatile and easy to use.

But wait. How hard are vacuums to use, really? Not much. The truly amazing thing about this vacuum is we have two Siberian huskies and we were using this during "blow out season." If you know nothing about Siberian huskies, trust me when I say that "shedding" is an inadequate description of what they do. If you are familiar with the breed then you know how remarkable it is that even during a blow-out we couldn''t find evidence of fur in our carpet or on the floors.

However, there is one caveat. The Turbo-Brush attachment is great for picking up pet hair, etc., but the place where it''s supposed to click into place for storage on the body of the machine itself is not strong enough to hold it. The minute you turn on the vacuum or roll it around, the vibrations cause the attachment to fall off. I have never actually owned a vacuum that could hold this attachment and when I saw how this one was designed I had a ray of hope because it looked like someone finally got it right. They didn''t.

Other than that, this is a great product and a bargain when compared to the more expensive ones out there making similar HEPA claims. Delighted and highly recommended.

We like the idea of the BISSELL Healthy Home Upright, Bagless Vacuum, with a HEPA filtration system that purifies air while vacuuming, purporting to "trap and seal 99.9% of pollen, pet dander" and other allergens. There are allergy sufferers in our home and we live in a canyon where there always seems to be a lot of stuff blowing around.

We have a lightweight canister vacuum but were looking for something that would deal with the nitty-gritty. After several weeks of use, here''s what we''ve found (PROS and CONS) with the BISSELL Healthy Home.

PROS:

It''s powerful--the 9X cyclonic is great for sucking up spiderwebs (and, in some cases, spiders!) and cleaning dust off screens

It''s not too loud.

It''s easy to assemble out of the box.

It does a nice job on carpeting.

CONS:

It''s quite heavy and difficult to maneuver.

The on-board brush is very hard to remove from its vacuum storage port--and to put back in place.

Did we mention that it''s heavy?

All said, we''ll probably use this one for the occasional hard-to-get-at stuff and use our much-lighter canister for the everyday clean-ups. Unless you live in a bungalow, it''s just too hard to carry up and down the stairs.

After using this vacuum for a little while I find that I would recommend it, indeed I have recommended it, though whether this is the best model for you depends on what you need.

My other recent vacuum experience has been the comparably priced Hoover Windtunnel Max Multi-Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum UH70600 and so I''ll be using that as a comparison, since they both have strengths and weaknesses.

First of all, this Bissell is simply more powerful than the hoover. Yes, if you go by how many "cyclones" the Bissell only has 9 of ''em to the Hoover''s 12. But, apparently not all cyclones are made the same as this Bissell really sucks, and I mean that in the best vacuum way possible. It has more suction than the Hoover and for that reason alone the Bissell takes a lead in the comparison.

But suction isn''t everything. And that is where the Hoover jumps ahead. I find myself really liking the auto-retracting cord of the Hoover. I also like the more solid construction. The Hoover just feels like a higher quality vacuum in the feel of the plastic and how well everything fits together.

Both are very easy to use, and the bagless feature is, of course, extremely handy (thanks Dyson for getting that technology moving forward!). The Hoover also has more reach and more/better attachments. The Bissell has the slightly longer cord, which feels more than the 2'' longer of actual distance. I suspect some of the cord in the Hoover gets left in the auto-retract.

So which do I recommend? If you need flexibility and want a more flexible (and smaller in size) vacuum that just looks and feels better, the Hoover is the way to go. If you''re primarily vacuuming floors and need stronger suction, then the Bissell is a fine choice. Indeed the Bissell is what I recommended my brother buy when he was vacuum shopping.

BestAir 3US-6 Ultratreat Ultrasonic/Vaporizer Water Treatment 32 oz.

BestAir 3US-6 Ultratreat Ultrasonic/Vaporizer Water Treatment 32 oz.I did a lot of searching for a product that would help curtail the white dust that is created by a humidifier. This does what it says it will, am very happy with the results. Our water is medium hard and this works great. We run the ultra sonic humidifier every night so is important to have this product which is made for the ultra sonic machines. Only a cap full per tank. I ordered 3 bottles of this, it was shipped VERY fast! I will reorder when I need more.

I am in CA & get the white dust when use the humidifier. Was optimistic about this, & it does help a little if you use double the amount, but didn''t work as great as I''d hoped. The seller was great & shipped it very quickly, just not sure if there is a cure for white dust other than a filter humidifier.

After installing an ionizer we had the white powder and an irritation in the throat. After adding this, both were reduced. However, if I use this AND filtered water, we don''t seem to get the powder or the irritation.

I bought a Sunbeam ultrasonic humidifier that works well except that it requires water treatment tablets in order to prevent scaling and a white film being intoduced into the room. The problem was that the tablets are almost impossible to find in stores or online. I bought this product, put two capfulls into the water tank and now there is no more scaling and no more white film on my furniture. Compared to the tablets its also a lot cheaper. No complaints on this one.

I bought this product to help reduce or eliminate the white dust caused by my ultrasonic humidifier. It is also supposed to help prevent buildup on the inner workings of the unit. I can''t speak for the inside of the unit, but I can truly say it did not help with the white dust issue at all. I will either have to use distilled water or buy a new humidifier.

Austin Air HealthMate+ Jr. HM250

Austin Air HealthMate+ Jr. - SilverThe unit was shipped to me directly from the manufacturer in a sturdy box. It is light enough for me to carry from room to room. The noise level is loud at the highest setting but I have no problem falling asleep or watching TV when set at the slowest speed.

I have been using this air purifier for a little over a month now. No complain. I have allergies but not the indoor type. It has something to do with polluted outdoor air. Therefore, I always keeps windows and doors close which leads to a stuffy house. Operating the central A/C or heat will take care of the stale air but expensive. The HealthMate takes care of this problem for me. Although I still have my allergy, at least I have fresh air at a low operating cost.

I did experience a small problem when ordering the unit from Healthy Air and Water Products. I ordered the "Plus" but received the the one without +. The vendor did take care of my complain immediately. He offered me an exchange with no charge. I settled for a credit back on the differences between the two models. Great, no hassle and I don''t mind buying from them again.

Great, well built and fairly quiet in the mid speed range. Very quiet on low and pretty loud on high. It does move the air and I can tell it is getting the air filtered. I have only turned it off 1 time in the month I have owned it and have been running it on Med. I use it only in my 500SqFt bedroom. I would buy this again.

This unit seems like it is working fine. I have not opened it up to clean the filter yet, but it is moving the air around. The only complaints that I have is it is loud on the highest speed and it makes the air very dry. Other than that everything is fine.

Maytag UKF8001 Pur Refrigerator Cyst Water Filter 1-Pack
  • NSF certified refrigerator water filter
  • Reduces cysts, asbestos, particulates, lead, mercury
  • Retains beneficial fluoride in water while reducing chlorine taste and odor
  • For us in Maytag and Jenn-Air refrigerators with filter access inside the refrigerator
  • Replace every 6 months

This filter was a snap to install, and once I did my water pressure from the dispenser was back to normal. If you''ve

got a refrigerator that uses one of these filters and the water''s been coming out slow then it''s probably time for a new filter. One word of advice: use a big water pitcher for the first use of the dispenser after the filter change the pressure has to readjust and it will spit out a few huge blasts of water that will overwhelm your normal water glass. After the couple of big blasts though, you get constant good pressure, better than you remembered was even possible after the gradual slow down with your old filter.

This filter is rated at 750 gallons capacity. If the consumer uses one gallon of water per day in the form of water from the refrigerator dispenser and ice from the ice dispenser, the filter will last 750 days; i.e., just over TWO years. In general, there is no reason to replace the filter yearly, unless you have a really yuccky water source.

In a small household of two adults, the filter should last considerably longer than two years. Furthermore, with the addition of a filtered water dispenser at the sink (such as a GE undercounter unit), the refrigerator filter would be functional for a few years. The undercounter units have a quite large capacity and some use two filter cartridges.

I purchased a Maytag refrigerator from an authorized Maytag dealer in October 2005. I was informed, at the time of purchase, the filter will last 12onths( or very close to 12 months). There is an indicator on the refrigerator that tells me when to change the filter. About a year went by and sure enough the light went on ,I bought a new filter from the Maytag store, and all was well. I followed this every year until 2009. In 2009 I found the filter on Amazon and ordered it. It was $10 cheaper and I did not have to drive 40 plus miles to the Maytag Store. The filter delivered was a 6 MONTH FILTER. It said it on the box. Amazon was excellent with refunding my money. But I still needed a new filter( I thought). So off I went to the Maytag store. The manager of the store sold me the 12 month filter and informed me that this is the only one he sells and that the filter is marked replace 12 months and not to be fooled because the packaging is very similar. Coincidentally, Amazon refunded my money, but the company that filled the order didn''t want it back,so I left it in. Sure enough, 6 months later, the light went on to change the filter. I had the one I purchased from the Maytag Store , installed it, and just a couple of days ago, the light went on to change the filter,12 months later. So folks, the 12 month filters are out there. The Amazon description of the filter does not show both sides of the filter and does not show the box. That is where the you will find out whether it is a six or 12 month filter. I bought an Amana refrigerator a little over a year ago and recently the "Replace Filter" light came on. I shopped several stores around here and was totally confused as to which filter was the right one. I mean, Whirlpool bought Maytag and Amana bought Whirlpool (or something like that), so it is hard to tell which filter was for which fridge. There were no convenient charts to guide you. Finally I went to Google and typed in the part number. Amazon had the best price. We have well water with a whole house filter, but my son noticed the difference right away. Good filter, good price, quick delivery.

Mr. Coffee WFF Water Filter Replacement Disk

Mr. Coffee WFF Water Filter Replacement DiskPurchased the Mr Coffee water filter at Walmart for $3.64. This is the complete system which consists of frame, filter disk and disk cover. Only need to relace the filter disk monthly. Can buy the 6 pack of the disks from MrCoffeeStore or Amazon for $14.99 at this time. We have a filter system on the sink in our home; but when the Mr. Coffee water filtration system is used there is white sediment (calcium buildup) on the filter because we have such nasty water. To clean the system we just run water over to wash off the sediment and then once a month change the disk. For $2.49 a month it is worth it when you see the junk the filter keep out of you coffee grounds and your machnie.

I like my Kona coffee fresh tasting and chemical filled tap water can ruin that.

These little filters do a great job of improving the taste of regular tap water.

Sure, they are pricey, but I''ve found I can go for a few months using just one rather than change it out every month as Mr. Coffee recommends. There are alternatives to them as well, like using pref-iltered water or bottled water, but costs doing it that way can add up as well.

Overall, a decent product if you can stomach the price.

BTW, as of writing this, the 2-packs ($3.99) are actually cheaper to purchase than the 6pk (going by unit cost). But for some reason the shipping is a $1 more for the 2-pack! Solution: Buy three 2-pack refills in one order and you save yourself about $2 over the cost of buying just the one 6-pack.

Note to Mr. Coffee -make these available at local supermarkets so that we don''t have to pay such outrageous shipping!

These filters do what they''re intended to do remove excessive chlorine.

The price here is just over $4 for a 2-pack, which works out to about $25 for a year. That annual cost may seem high, but the objective is to filter out chlorine from the water being used.

The chlorine level around here has risen to an unacceptable level recently, and the use of the filter has helped greatly.

Of course, other options would be to use bottled water or water filtered at the tap, but these filters work as designed in eliminating chlorine odor and taste from coffee.

By the way, these filters are also available directly from the Mr. Coffee website at $5.99 for a 2-pack or $15.99 for a 6-pack.

The cost and lack of availability of these filters is robbery. If I had known about the problems and cost involved in finding them in the first place I never would have bought a mr coffee, and in the future I will be very skeptical of mr coffee. If I tried to replace the filters from the mr coffee web site at the suggested rate of one per month it would cost me about $60 a year.

  • Graded density/resin bonded
  • For standard dirt/rust removal
  • Flow Rate: 20 - 28 gpm (65.7 - 105.9 lpm)
  • Cold water only

I have been using the AP810 5 micron filters for 10 years. No trace of sediment in our system and it catches a fine clay like sludge. I can usually flush the filter out a couple times and keep using it. They do fail though if you keep doing this so I don''t push it beyond a couple rinses. Your mileage is going to vary but I get 6 months between flushes even on a a new will that had significant initial sediment. Flow will reduce a bit once the sediment creeps up to the canister to about half way, but the flow is still useable at that point. This is when I usually flush it out.

Espressione 10-Cup Digital Filtered Coffee Maker Save 49% Off

Espressione 10-Cup Digital Filtered Coffee Maker, Stainless SteelThis is a lovely machine and makes good coffee. I like the separate water pitcher and mesh filter. But it does leak easily, even when I carefully check the placement of the filter. Doesn''t happen every time, but enough to be annoying, especially considering the cost of the machine. Had hoped for better results because I REALLY wanted to like this.

My main reason for choosing this product was the removable water tank due to the layout of our kitchen. I was a little put off by the reviews that mentioned a leakage problem, but I went ahead and was glad I did. I have had no leakage problem, and I wonder how it could happen unless the carafe was not seated properly.

The coffee is very good. It is easy to use, and is a beautiful piece of kitchen equipment. If you are in the market for a coffee maker, I recommend this one.

Pros: Extremely Attractive, Brews Quickly, Durable, Easy To Clean, Easy To Use, Large Pot, Multiple Settings, Stylish

When I first looked at this model 3 years ago, I saw lots of reviews touting its ability to brew at the correct temperature. I didn''t see this mentioned in recent reviews, so I am putting it back in. I noticed an improvement in the deliciousness of my morning cup immediately, and so did the husband.

I don''t understand how anyone could have a problem positioning the carafe. If the lid is on correctly (a simple snap), the bowl molded into the lid seats the carafe by design.

Also not seeing any signs of leaks. It''s much easier to fill than the Cuisinart 1200 that died 2 weeks after the warranty expired, and has both a water gauge to check the water level (although the displayed amount seems to vary depending from which angle I view it). and a removable water basket that you can fill at the sink.

The only thing I would tweak is the programming. It''s easy to program, but it''s a little on the slow side. When you hold sdown the time advance button, it proceeds to cycle through the quarter hours at a stately pace. The timing is fine tuned by pressing and releasing the button, which advances it a minute at a time. Because it takes so long to cycle, say, from 7 am to 6:23 am, it''s easy to be distracted, miss the 6:15 and wind up having to cycle through again.

I was not dissuaded by the negative reviews, and am glad of it.

I am told by the US distributor that its water filters are identical to the Hamilton Beach 80674 and the deLonghi KW696196. NOw that I know I am going to keep the machine, I have ordered a dozen, and they are at the moment back-ordered. They come with or without the filter holder that keeps it in place. The filter and holder together are about $16, plus or minus $2, the individual filters considerably less.

Enforcer DC16 18-Ounce Drain Care Build-Up Remover Powder
  • Enzymatic drain cleaner
  • Ends slow drains
  • Safe for all plumbing
  • Safe for septic systems
  • Cleans and removes years of build-up in the plumbing system

After using every other enzyme, name brand drain foam, soup, syrup, and whatever other junk I could find at the store to no avail, I turned to Enforcer. It worked!

We have small pipes and they were clogged as soon as we moved in. This was gunka junka. We poured many different things down the drain.

In three days, Enforcer cleared up the drains. Here is the most important thing:

Pour boiling hot water down the drain first.

Then mix the powder in a quart of warm water (same as you would yeast).

Pour down drain (no standing water)

Then wait at least 6 hours (we waited 12)

Pour another pot of boiling water down the drain

repeat until fully unclogged

We estimate it cleaned up decades of funk. Having bought two jars of it, we have plenty to spare so we will use it for maintenance.

Giving it 5 stars. This is a winner.

This product works for me but with some caveats. I used it to clear slow draining sinks but, after the three treatments, the drain would become even SLOWER to drain than before. What happened was that as the enzymes attacked the heavy buildup in the trap, the buildup would partially delaminate from the pipe walls and become larger in size as it got saturated with liquid. The water saturated and larger buildup would clog up the pipe even more. Normal draining at this stage would not rinse the partially delaminated gunk from the trap. I had to resort to using a plunger to clear the delaminated gunk. What the plunger pulled up looked like a lot of soft, water saturated seaweed. After using the plunger, the sink trap became very free flowing.

Using the plunger alone without the enzymes would not have done nearly as good a job. The enzymes helped to delaminate the buildup from the pipe wall. So, at least for me, the enzyme product and the plunger had to be used together to get the job done.

I will chime in here also. ZEP ZDC16 actually does work! We have a tub upstairs which has been giving me trouble for years. It never gets completely clogged but starts draining slower and slower. This is a plastic drain pipe going into a septic tank. I used to use gallons of boiling water both before and after pouring a gallon of liquid plumber down the drain. I''d heat the pipes up with hotwater first. Then pour a couple of gallons of boiling water down the drain followed by some warm Liguid Plumber. A few hours later I would rinse with a couple more gallons of boiling water. This worked most of the time.

This last time I used a treatment of the foaming Liquid Plumber. This is a bleach based product. I let this sit overnight. And it did work much better than my normal routine. But I also bought some of the ZEP ZDC16 at the home improvement store and decided to apply it for the next several days. The drain in the bathtub upstairs worked better every single day. It now works like new. I assume that the deposits that were causing the problem have been eaten by the bacteria/enzyme cleaner. I was skeptical about both the foam and the Zep, but they did the trick. We have had trouble for years and now I think I found the solution.

I had a shower drain that was so slow that by the end of the shower the water was past my ankles. Very annoying. The drains in the house are old cast iron. I followed the directions of one of the reviewers here by using boiling water in conjunction with allowing the stuff to lay in the drain more than 6 hours.

After 3 days, I was disappointed to find that the drain was still clogged. I waited about 5 days and then decided to put another treatment in the night before. The next evening, my wife decided to take a shower and again it was flooded. After she was out for 10 minutes, it was still draining. I was so annoyed that I took a plunger and went after it pretty violently. It worked. I was shocked.

I had used a drain king on this same drain and gave the drain king stellar reviews. It seems that there was too much gunk in this drain that the Drain King could not remove all that stuff. I''m happy to report that this stuff does actually work.

I also conducted a little experiment. I had a toilet that was leaking and I had to take the toilet out. In doing so, I had a great look at my old cast iron drain from the toilet. It was filled with gunk. I wanted to see if the enzyme stuff would do something to the drain. So i filled the enzyme cleaner in a plastic bottle with warm water and poured it all over that drain. Some of the cleaner puddled on the bottom of the curved drain and in ten minutes all the gunk was cleaned like a new drain. Very amazing to look at. This only happened on the puddled part. The parts that were poured onto looked dried and didn''t have any change in appearance.

I still have to do somemore toilet repair so maybe the next time I plan to expose the drain, I''ll take a video of the enzyme stuff doing its thing so you can see for yourself.

For those of you who complained that this stuff doesn''t cut through hair...it''s true that hair is made out of amino acids but this does not make it a ''protein''. Hair is protected by keratin and the molecular linkages exclude water. So an enzymatic product can''t penetrate the exterior hair coating, and if you''re talking about hair coated with lots of commercial products it''s that much harder. Lye based drain openers explode the outer keratin layer. I find this product very useful for maintenance and I typically chuck it down all the toilets and drains before going on vacation for 2 3 days or longer.

Kick Away Shoe and Boot Cleaner

Kick Away Shoe and Boot Cleaner, Heavy Duty Commercial ModelIf you''re looking at this, you''re probably familiar with the leading brand. I think this one works way, way better. The frame is stiffer, there''s an extra brush on the bottom, the brushes are stiffer, the side brushes are farther apart so boots fit better, the tops of the frames are scrapers, and since the underside is open it doesn''t clog up, the mud falls out.

The "Kick Away" Shoe and Boot cleaner, Heavy Duty Commercial Model works fine. We have several other scrapers but needed a more robust scraping for certain weather, shoe/boot/soles, and debris combinations.

The scraper does need to be mounted as it is tall and top heavy and will tip over in use unless you have a child''s shoe in the scraper. ONE big advantage of the scraper being tall is you can slip the toe of your boot/shoe under the entire scraper but between the plywood board we have it mounted on and lift the entire scraper and board to move it around to better position it or to sweep up under it every so often. I have size 13 shoes/boots and my boots slip between the scraper and the plywood easily.

The bad is the welding on this scraper looks like it was done by a beginner and is very poorly done on the 45 degree supports on the underside. The good news is the scraper is built like a tank and will last just as long and serve just as well. The two flat metal strips that serve as feet were not level and wobbled so I had to bend the supports to get it to stand right on level cement (before the board was mounted) which caused the powder coating to come off at the welds.

The "Kick Away" label was put on with a crease/wrinkle and was crooked. I tried to straighten it and hoped to reapply it but ended up being unable to salvage it for reapplication. The "Kick Away" label was on one side of the scraper only which was nice in that you could face it either way depending on if you like the label showing or not. Both the front and the back of the scraper are identical.

It is too bad the welding on the leg supports are so poorly done. Otherwise, this is a solid American hand-crafted quality item that can be handed down for many generations.

This thing is awesome. When they say "heavy duty" they''re not kidding! The steel is THICK and strong. The brushes are rigid and stiff and do a terrific job of scrubbing the grit out of my tennis shoes before stepping onto the doormat and onto our hardwood floors. That grit is like sandpaper on our floors, particularly when it''s rainy out.

My only complaint is the screws provided for mounting the device. It *WILL* have to be mounted to use, otherwise it will tip and rock as you try to clean your shoe, and you won''t be able to get much accomplished. The screws are pretty "fat" and have a phillips head. I tried to drive the first screw into my deck using my cordless drill and stripped out the head. The next screw I put in after having drilled a pilot hole, but I still spun it before it was 100% cinched down. It would have made much more sense had they included hardened hex-head lag bolts for mounting. I ended up using lag bolts I bought at the hardware store. A template would have been helpful too, along with maybe some brief mounting instructions...

Despite the cheap-o mounting screws, lack of template or instructions, I still give this thing five stars. It''s just that good!

Every now and then you purchase a product that is what it says it is. As a bonus the company was more than responsive in shipping it out. This product is very well built and works like a dream! It must be screwed down to use. I used the large screws that came with it to screw it to a board so I did not have to put four large holes in my deck. I then used a couple of small deck screws to attach the board to the deck. It makes it very easy to move it around if desired. I have an outdoor wood boiler which spews soot which gets in the cleats of my shoes and then was getting tracked into the kitchen and causing my wife great consternation. I tried to wipe them on a mat but it was not effective and taking shoes on and off every time was not practical. This boot cleaner does a perfect job and we are both delighted! Thanks!

This is without a doubt the best boot cleaner I have ever used. Its heavy duty construction really gets the dirt and grime off of your boots. The side brushes get off the mud that creeps up the side of your boots.

Essick Air 4D7-800 Whole House Evaporative Humidifier Save 1% Off

Essick Air 4D7-800 Whole House Evaporative HumidifierI have used it all this winter and it did the trick. My wife was suffering from nose bleeds and cracked skin before we bought this and now she is fine. It holds enough water to only need changed about every other day. The lights that tell you when the resivour needs changed can be seen from across the room. I run mine at the lowest fan speed and it is like it isn''t there when the TV is on. With the room quiet you know its there but it isn''t annoying. I was dissapointed with the airfilter. It looks like one on a furnace and is loosley attached to the back. It''s deffinitly not HEPA quality if thats what your looking for.

This is a big humidifier for adding moisture to several rooms or an entire house. My house is ~1800 sq feet and gets very dry in the winter. This humidifier did a nice job of adding a lot of moisture to the house before it died. Within the first year, the motor stopped working, and I had to send the entire motor unit in for repair. Then it died again---same problem with the motor failing. Very frustrating, and now I have a large piece of useless plastic. I would not recommend Essick/Bemis products because of very poor reliability.

Tropical is not a word that comes to mind when thinking about Boston in the winter (although, with the magic of global warming, it may not be so far off...). One thing that has been very difficult for us the past few years has been the dryness of the winter months with the associated dry nose, throat and eyes. We bought a Venta Airwasher and, I must confess, this is largely a waste of money. It''s well-intentioned, but just didn''t really add much moisture to the air. At the same time, the Venta was very expensive to buy and expensive to operate needing lots of additive. As one reviewer put it: "Holy mother of G*d! $439 and for what?!"

That about sums up our experience with the Venta...

So, as per usual I spent days and days reading about humidifiers and learning that, basically, they all have craptacular aspects, but a few emerged as really promising. One of them was the Vornado, which a friend has and enjoys. We really liked the design and the technology of this unit, but found that for a little bit more, we could pull trigger on the Bemis 4D7 800 Digital Evaporative Humidifier w/ AirCare® Filter. The main differences we could see were that the Bemis had a bigger capacity for taking care of our whole house basically in the same way as the Vornado, and with a few added features:

* Disperse up to 13 gallons of water per day over 2700 square feet of space.

* Holds up to 5.5 gallons of water.

* Continuously variable fan speed setting with quiet night-time setting.

* Digital Control Panel

* Automatic humidistat maintains optimum humidity level.

* Removable power pack simplifies cleaning.

* Concealed control panel maintains the clean, smooth lines of the unit.

So, I hooked it up and put it in our foyer and it seems to be doing a good job. It''s a nice machine, pretty clean lines and goes well with the house. It is BIG, however, and it''s like having a radiator in that room now, but the space was sort of dead anyways, so it''s no great loss. One key thing, however, is that, just like the Vornado, it makes the GLUG GLUG GLUG sound from time to time, which is taking some getting used to...

In my search, NO humidifier is perfect--they all have a number of flaws. This unit seems to be among the best in that it does a good job adding humidity to the air (but not over-doing it as some complain with warm-mist humidifiers) and is fairly easy to clean. In sum, this is an excellent humidifier that is well-made and does its job admirably. Recommended.

I bought this item direct from Amazon on January 25, 2008. The electric motor failed on Feb. 5, 2009. The unit has a one year parts warranty.

Although I live in an implied warranty state, I didn''t bother trying to get it fixed as I bought it with an AMEX card, so I am eligible for a refund. At least one other manufacturer Moistair offers a two year warranty on the motor and a one year warranty on other parts. That''s what I will get with my AMEX refund check.

We had a Bemis humidifier (12 gal) that just died after working well enough for NINE winter seasons. As best I can tell, this Essick 4D7-800 is the same model (apparently Essick took over the Bemis products years ago), but with added digital controls. In my online research for a new "whole-house" humidifier yesterday, I found more complaints than praise for ALL brands and models. So, I just ordered this unit, with fingers crossed, in hopes I can get 9 years out of this one, too. Yes, our old unit was cheaply made and the blowing air was moderately loud on high, but it did ok for our 4300 sq. ft home. (We also have a humdifiying unit on our entire heating system, but still need a boost from that!) We ran it pretty nonstop for about 4-5 months a year, only cleaned it once after each season, and changed the wick (~$17) once a year. We refilled the large, heavy plastic bottles once a day and added a small cap of generic bacteriostat treatment to about every other bottle refill. The appearance of the unit itself is not as bad as the fake plastic wood look, and pretty unobtrusive in our foyer.

Hydronix 4.5" x 20" Big Blue Sediment Filter Cartridge

Hydronix 4.5'' x 20'' Big Blue Sediment Filter Cartridge - 1 MicronI was looking through all the vendors that were selling this product. At the time this sediment cartridge was selling for an INSANELY low price. I wonder if the price was a typo! I went ahead and bought 6 of them. Looking back, maybe I should have bought even more since you don''t see that price anywhere. And this vendor has since changed the price on this product (at the time of writing this review). I usually see 50 microns, 20, or 10 microns, but a ONE-micron filter at $10 each was a steal!

Now, the packaging was a little concerning. Each cartridge was in its own plastic wrap. However, as a whole there is only one thin bubble wrap laying on top when I opened box. Not only that, during shipment the contents had shifted and half of the bubble wrap had slipped to the side, so only half of the top was protected. The sides and bottom offered no protection. There were a couple cartridges that sustained damages. One had the plastic wrap that was half coming off, and the only way to rip that plastic wrap was from a heavy drop. Another had dents on the side from whatever impact it sustained during shipment. The cartridges were still usable.

Overall, it was good product at a very cheap price at the time.

Very good filter, super quality. It does the job as promised catches all sediment greater then 1 micron. Description correct, price better then other sites. Highly recommended.

DeLonghi PAC700T Pinguino Portable Air Conditioner

DeLonghi PAC700T Pinguino Portable Air ConditionerI purchased the PAC600T (one step below this unit) from Amazon one year ago. When it arrived, I filled the tank with water, inserted it in the unit and my floor was covered with water less than a minute later. Turns out the unit''s plastic base housing was cracked during shipment. Amazon replaced the unit, with the same results for the second unit. At that same time, there must have been lots of returns because Amazon stopped selling the unit. I stepped up to this unit with its slightly higher BTUs and hefty price.

The unit arrived fine, no leaks after filling with water, and I used it most of last summer (in a 14'' x 20'' room with average height ceiling). The unit puts out cool, definitely not cold, air. The only way to really use the unit is to get it started when the temperature isn''t too high, then keep it running. I don''t think it would be able to cool a warm room. It simply isn''t overly powerful. That may have to do with the fact that it operates at 110 volt, rather than 220 like many AC units that are built into apartment walls.

The unit has been sitting behind my couch all winter. When I went to use it this year, the removable plastic water tank was cracked. It was emptied at the end of the season and not exposed to excessive temperatures, so I don''t know what that''s about.

I assumed that with the high BTU (and price tag), this would be the unit to use. But I''m going to try one of the less expensive units this year and check out its performance.

I bought 2 units last year. At first it worked fine. Then, this season, when I started to use the air conditioners, one of the unit leaked at the base, ruining my wood floor. I thought I could just use it without water, and I found it to be very insufficient to cool off the room. I have used different models of pinguino and I found that the newer models are more problematic. If it isn''t leaking, then it is the alarm light that kept coming on, shutting down the unit. I followed the maintenance procedure to clean the unit, but it doesn''t seem to help. I am fed up with pinquino. I think I may have to switch back to those window units.

This product,DeLonghi 700T,was about the worst purchase that I have ever made. The unit ran for 10 mins and then shut off. After several attempts,we finally found the service center that replaced the fan motor--after a 4 month wait for the part. But that did not fix the problem--the unit shuts down after a short run.Because all of this has taken so long,Delonghi says that the warranty is now limited and that I have to take the unit to a service center 50 miles away.It has been close to 2 years and I still do not have a functioning air conditioner.

I purchased a Pinguino PAC 700T 3 years ago. Rated at 12,000 BTUs, it cools about as well as a 6000 BTU in-window unit. However, at the beginning of this summer season, I find that it no longer cools or dehumidifies air. I found DeLonghi''s central service number (800-322-3848 in case you need it) and asked for my nearest service/repair center. They informed me that they no longer have any repair centers in Massachusetts. They suggested that I take the unit to Hartford, CT, about 2 hours from Boston where I live. Having paid $1300 for this unit just 3 years ago, I expected better service than this. It appears that DeLonghi maybe doesn''t care too much about supporting their products after the sale. This will be my last DeLonghi product of any kind.

I bought the 700 Pinquino A/C unit because of its excellent energy efficiency and quiet operation. I liked the looks too, so many others look so ugly that I would not have them in my livingroom. I have had the unit for two years now, and so far no problems at all. It works great, and is very quiet, and cools my 700sqft room well, although it takes a while when above 90F. The water reservoir lasts about a day before needing refilling. My only complaint is a minor one: The plastic finish is of good quality, but it scratches easily when moving the unit around and you bump into something. If it had some color matching bumper strips or something around its middle section, that might help. I am happy with this unit.

Pentek EP-20BB Carbon Block Filter Save 16% Off

Pentek EP-20BB Carbon Block Filter, 5 Micron
  • 5 Micron Carbon Briquette, combining the long filter life of carbon block with the dirt-hold capacit
  • High porosity design helps prevent plugging
  • Perfect for residential, food service, commercial and industrial applications
  • Manufactured entirely from FDA-compliant materials

I get municipal drinking water with 1-2ppm of of chlorine (as much as a public pool) and 22 grains of hardness (more than 2x what''s considered "extremely hard"). When I had a water softener installed in my house, I also had a Pentek 20" Big Blue Housing installed before softener. I wanted the carbon filter for a few reasons:

1) Keep chlorine out of the shower and bath, out of my family''s lungs and off of our skin

2) Keep chlorine out of the washing machine where it bleaches our clothing

3) Protect the resin in the water softener, which should double it''s life

4) Protect the plumbing (PEX pipes, rubber in fixtures, etc...) from chlorine

5) Remove the small amount of sediment that is in the city water which collects in valves and fixtures

I previously used the Pentek RFC20-BB Radial-Flow Granular Activated Carbon Cartridge. In comparison, this filter is less expensive, has a finer sediment filter (5 micron vs. 25 micron) and it''s rated for up to 180F. Also, carbon block filters don''t have the same channeling issues as GAC filters, which become less effective at higher flow rates.

However, compared to the RFC20-BB this filter can''t handle as much water (only 40,000 Gal. vs. 70,000 Gal.) and has a bigger pressure drop (5.5 psi @ 5 gpm vs. 0.9 psi @ 4 gpm). Neither of those were a big concern for me. We use less than 1,000 gal/week so the capacity easily exceeds the 6 month replacement cycle. As for water pressure, I get a solid 60+ psi coming into my house and even a 10 psi drop is not noticeable. If you already have pressure issues, get RFC20 instead.

Well, I have a well-start off there. Decent amount of iron content. I have a Culligan Sediment Filter in line for the entire house-lasts about 3 months and then I change it-it is pretty red. I also used to have a ''pump the chlorine in and filter it out via a whole house system that backwashed when need''-and I tired of buying the $250 Chlorine pumps on a pretty routine basis. Also, I liked the idea of the chlorine taking care of anything harmful.

While looking to buy sediment cartridges I noticed the highboy carbon filter and, what the heck, a 5 Lb pressure drop can''t be too bad.

I installed it today, after the sediment filter and, after all cleared up in all the faucets, the water looked crystal clear-just as it did without the filter, but I am convinced the carbon should deal with any ''junk'' still there after the sediment filter. The dishwasher will let me know how much, if any, of the iron remains in the water as the redness is easily detected on the unit.

My well is set to cut in at 32 lbs and off at 48--comfortable for two simultaneous showers for the years we have been here. We have two 40 gallon pressurized bladder tanks to supplement the 20 gallon unit at the pump head. I did ithis for the additional capacity to allow the girls to shower at the same time and not mid it when the toilet is flushed. Worked out well.

Now I have to decided how much to raise the cut-in pressure to avoid the reduction in pressure caused by th enew carbon filter.

Yes the O-ring is a bit of a pain, but the more lubricant one uses, like in anything else, the better.

I will try to get back here for updates.

Anyone else have experiences that might help?

Thanks

Joe

We''ve purchased a brand of water filter from Amazon in the past which worked well but this filter beats the competition hands down. We have a well and acidic water so the change in the water taste and softness was immediate and pretty dramatic. We are considering buying 2 or 3 next time to stock up.
