First of all, the reason we bought this is because, in general, percolators make great tasting coffee. They can turn even the worst quality beans into a good cup of coffee. Initially, the Presto lived up to our expectations. And after doing the following, it is once again making great cups of coffee.

Tip #1 Grind your coffee using the appropriate setting.

After some usage, we would at times get a mouthful of grinds. We realized it was important to use the percolator setting on the coffee grinder at the supermarket. Since then, an occasional coffee grind finds its way into our cup.

Tip #2 Clean the filter basket with a brush.

Despite cleaning the pot before each usage, the coffee was gradually getting weaker each day. We then realized that the holes in the bottom of the filter basket were clogged. We could not unclog them using a sponge so I started poking each one individually with a toothpick before deciding there was no way we would have the time or patience to do it every day. So, we tried a brush with plastic bristles and, within seconds, the basket was completely unclogged. So, we bought a small brush with a long handle and use it to clean the filter basket and the bottom of the pot.

I thought my Hamilton Beach percolator was decent for the price, I even wrote a review about it in December, 2006. One week later, this 1-year old coffee maker was barely keeping the coffee hot. Then I visited my son in Alaska at Christmas and noticed that his 6-yr old Presto percolator was still delivering great, hot coffee in record time. I returned home, ordered my Presto 12-cup percolator and am highly impressed. It''s lighter, easier to load, easier to pour, easier to clean, perks ultra-fast and makes a great, hot cup of coffee. Because of its lighter stainless steel pot, it cools down faster if you want to make a second batch of coffee right away. (We make two pots and pour the first batch into a thermos for back-up when company comes) Based on its performance, I''m surprised the price is so reasonable.

I am a coffee drinker, and have been for decades. I have tried most systems out there-French Press, Filters of all kinds, stovetop espresso pots, etc. Of all of those, French Press makes pretty good coffee. But this Presto percolator extracts more flavor than any of them to my taste.

Here are some clues. The kitchen fills with the smell of coffee brewing. It''s nice, and I haven''t smelled that wonderful, welcoming smell in a long time. The coffee comes out rich and thick. For those of you that use cream or milk, you will still have a decent coffee flavor after the addition.

The pot itself is a fairly simple device. I am sure there is a micro-processor thermostat under the black base, but still a simple device. All parts are Stainless Steel. The pot, the basket holder, the basket and the basket top. No plastic touches the coffee. Parts, should they become damaged for any reason are easily available from the Presto site. But with reasonable treatment these are sturdy, workable pieces of coffee brewing goodness.

The brew cycle is regulated by the amount of water in the pot. I have tried making four cup, six cup, eight cup, and ten cup batches. Following the directions that come with the pot or that area available on the Presto site will yield weaker or stronger brews according to your taste. One just has to experiment a bit to get a feel for it.

The brew cycle ends with a flourish of percing. Then the light on the front goes off. Here''s what they don''t tell you. Wait another minute or so till the last batch of water filters through the basket, then open the top take out the basket top and then the basket and brewpipe. Pop the top back on. The coffee will stay hot for as long as you leave the pot plugged in. And at a good hot temp, too.

This holding part of the cycle is a double edged sword. Coffee definitely looses its full flavor after a while, but the coffee will stay hot for as long as the pot is plugged in. I recommend making several smaller batches over the day rather than just brewing a big one. That hassle aside, I haven''t yet let the pot burn with no coffee in it.

All in all, this Presto pot brews a great cup of coffee in batches from four to twelve cups. Best purchase to my quality of life I have made in some time. Highly recommended.

We have well water and our pressure isn''t real good but this has always worked wonderfully. My autistic child drinks water like he has inside information on a drought. He drinks gallons of water each day. I only use Matrikx PB1 in an under counter hookup. I drilled a small hole in our counter top and put in a small water filter spigot. While it doesn''t come out nearly as fast as the cold water spigot, it comes out plenty fast enough. With this system, I feel safe enough to let the little guy have a ball.

I received the item on time however it was used. When the FEDEX driver gave me the package I saw the box looked worn and previously opened. That was not a problem for me. I opened the package and saw the unit was used because it had traces of dried alge on it. I decided to keep the item because I needed to remove alge bloom in my pond and my previous UV unit stopped working. I also noticed the fountain head is cracked and water is leaking on the side. I decided to keep the unit anyway but please, please, please, if you are selling used equipment make mention of it in the listing.

We have went through several pumps in past few years and this one seems pretty good for the money. It has a continious flow and has not clogged up with Alge yet (which has been a problem in the past). Not to mention that the fountain head actually workes well in my small Koi poind.

Before I purchased this coffee pot about a year ago, I read reviews by others who said ''good coffee but lasted only a few months.'' I thought to myself...''oh, those people must have been the unlucky few who got bad units...or they emersed the pot and ruined it.'' I loved this coffee pot. Rich, strong, hot coffee, and great classic looks. My only complaint was that compared to other percolators I''ve used, this one is noisy. It makes a loud popping sound while brewing. I never emersed the unit, and was always very careful to avoid letting any water get near the base of the unit when washing it.

I bought this pot a year ago, and used it about twice a MONTH. Yesterday morning, I attempted to make coffee but got only the same ''beige water'' that others have reported. Tried again today thinking maybe it was just a fluke, and got a second pot of luke warm ''beige water.''

I suspect that others who posted initially positive feedback about this pot have had the same experience, but just haven''t returned to update their reviews. In any case, I would strongly caution against the purchase of this pot. It''s just not durable.

After just 4 months of minimal use (Monday mornings only), our attractive Hamilton Beach 12 cup suddenly quit. I should have listened. It produces only weak, warm clear coffee as of yesterday.

If you''re on well water, this is one product that you really should have--whether or not you have a water softener system, and whether or not you have a chlorine tank.

The RUSCO Spin Down Sediment Filter WITH SEDIMENT TRAP, when immediately installed after your well tank and before anything else in your home, serves as a first filtering system for sediment and other particles that are in deep well water systems. (Keep in mind that the deep well pump that is in the ground sucks up water and anything else that is down there.)

Make sure you get the model that includes the SEDIMENT TRAP which, as it states, traps sediment that is spun down from the top of the system, and traps it there so it will not go back up and clog the filter screen, which may reduce water pressure level and diminish the effectiveness of your spin down filter.

Also, the 3/4" size may first appear to be too large for 3/4" CPVC, but it is not. After priming, use a heavy layer of glue to secure your CPVC in two places on the Spin Down Filter: In the InFlow hole, and the Outflow hole of the Spin Down Filter. Allow this thick layer of gluing to stay in place and undisturbed for at least 24 hours to fully cure so that it will be operational when you do the final install and ready sooner for full water pressure. (Excuse the terminology, I did the work myself but I am not a professional plumber. I was blessed to serve as the general construction manager for a new church, and two new homes. So I learned some things--especially not to get screwed over by some guys in the building construction trades.)

I''ve had one of these on my well for a couple years. Going to replace it. Not sure with what yet. This filter is an interesting idea but not great in practice. After a couple years, the housing threads are hard to unscrew. I do use silicone grease every time I open it. It only works well for sand. If you have any sticky stuff; clay, silt or whatever it sticks to the screen and clogs it up. I have to purge it daily. The purge valve on the bottom only works to clean loose sediment if you use it the way they intend. If you installed valves before, after, and a bypass, you can close the input valve, open the bypass and open the purge valve. That blasts water backward through the filter and will clean off some of the sticky crud. Still have to remove the filter and wash it with a brush every week or two. So, OK for sand. Not OK for anything else.

Our 80psi water pressure has not suffered, either, from what we can tell.

You can maintain an even higher water flow if you choose the particulate-only filter (AP810-2, link above), but it''s not worth it for us. We wanted the chlorine to be filtered, too, and our water flow has not suffered.

We have to change the filter cartridge every 6 to 12 months, but at $50/pop, that''s acceptable.

The Aqua-Pure system is inexpensive. It was originally made by a company called Cuno which got bought by 3M. We''ve been very pleased with 3M products in the past, so we had confidence of the brand. And so far, it''s been everything we hoped for. The water tastes great, and there''s no chlorine smell, and no more clogging up of our faucets.

I bought this on a whim, didn''t expect much and was pleasantly surprised. The quality is superb, it feels exactly like soft smooth leather. Stitching and detail is craftsmanlike all around. The inside is actually a denim-like cloth (you can see in one of my pictures), faded blue color. I can''t see this falling apart any more than leather would. Carry it anywhere, in a pocket or wallet. It has a hand strap that I didn''t see mentioned in the product description.

It''s 5" across at the top, 4.5" at the bottom, and almost 3" wide (2.75). That''s my only complaint my hands are probably average to large for a guy, and it seems designed for a small hand or else a woman. It really only protects three fingers; you either have to keep one away from the glass, or make sure you keep your fingers tightly together so it fits all four. If this was only bigger, it would be fantastic. Looks good, works well I made my latte scalding hot and didn''t notice uncomfortable heat coming through. I still give it 5 stars for being so well made.

We purchased a new Whirlpool refrigerator earlier this year. The new refrigerator has all the marvelous improvements developed in the last ten years for refrigerators, including a water filter.

The water filter really does deliver better water. However, the water filter seems quite expensive to me. Whirlpool, and other manufacturer''s that use this type of filter, recommend the filter be replaced twice a year, whether you need to replace the filter or not.

The filter is relatively easy to replace, but be aware of what happens when you pull the filter. To remove the old filter you push a button next to the filter, typically to the left of the filter. Then pull on the cap covering the filter and pull the filter out. Make a note of how the filter was oriented when you pull it out.

The filter will now begin dripping water, so have a paper towel or small bowl available to let the water drip into. You can either let the filter finish dripping into a sink, or throw it into a plastic bag that you can seal to keep the water from dripping out of the bag. Be sure you remove the cover from the filter before you toss it. On our Whirlpool the cover twists counterclockwise for removal.

Install the filter cover onto the new filter. It takes just a twist to lock it into place. Holding the filter so that the two straight pieces on the end of the filter are vertical, with the open portion of the filter cover oriented on the bottom, slide the new filter straight into the filter cavity until the button on the left clicks to let you know the new filter is locked into place. Note that these instructions are for a Whirlpool, but I believe most other refrigerators are similar. You should be ready to go!

Had I known refrigerator water filters were so expensive I might have gone with a refrigerator without one, though our local water has a lot of chlorine in it (which is filtered out by the filter).

As with many modern conveniences, this water filter represents a convenience that you did not know you needed until you had it. Now that I have it, I am wondering whether I want it since I have to spend a chunk of change each year in filter replacements. Oh well. I guess I can sleep more soundly knowing that the water filter is now removing a bunch of stuff from my water that my body either did not want or need.

Overall we have found this to be a great water filter. But we have had our water tested by a professional, both at the tap, and at the filtered tap on the refrigerator. Both waters tested the same for chlorine content, however, the particle contaminants were greatly reduced by the filter on the refrigerator.

Something to note on your water filter.

The light is merely a timed indicator of when they want you to replace the filter. Think of it as a "countdown timer" that starts as soon as you reset it. It is in no way measuring the amount of water you are consuming... Personally, I used to change out the filter every 6 months when the indicator light came on, but we rarely use the water/ice now, so I haven''t changed it (or reset it) in over a year although I probably will soon. I actually cut the first one in half to see how "contaminated" the filter was and to my surprise, it looked like a brand new filter...

The life of a filter depends on a couple of things.

1. The amount of contaminants in your water (well water is typically the worst)

2. The amount of water that passes through the filter

If you have low contaminants and/or use very little filtered water, your filter will last much longer than 6 months. If you pay attention to the amount of water flow and the size of your ice cubes, you can more accurately determine the proper time to replace the filter.

I have county water and we also have installed a "whole house" water filtration system, so I can probably get closer to 2 years out of a filter. Obviously, not everyone has these installed though, just use common sense on when to replace your filter and you''ll be fine.

P.S. Why is it more expensive per unit to buy the 3-pack than it is to buy the 2-pack? Am I the only one that found this odd?

Since I had had previous experience with Pur water filters, we purchased a side-by-side water and ice dispenser Whirlpool fridge over a year ago that uses these filters and they have made a huge difference in the quality of our water. We live in Riverview, FL, a suburb of Tampa, and the water here is so foul that I sometimes wonder if I have an odor from it after I shower. Since it smelled that bad coming from the tap I knew I was not going to drink it, cook with it, nor give it to my cats. So, to save us the expense of buying bottled water, we bought the fridge. Yes, the filters are expensive, but they are Pur water filters which, in my opinion, are better than Brita. I would rather have the expense than get sick drinking nasty water. Since I use the filtered water for just about everything, I have to replace my filter more frequently, but it is well worth the cost.

To save a few bucks, I order my filter online and three at a time; this usually saves me $3-5.00 per filter. Just search for the item number of the filter and you will find several places that sell it either as a single, a three-pack, a four-pack or a six-pack. Obviously, the more you buy, the more you save.

I paid almost as much for this as I would have had to pay in the store, and it has never worked since the day I installed it. I kept thinking that maybe it needed to be in awhile and the bad taste would go away, but it has not. Once in awhile it tastes better for a glass or two, but most of the water and ice are terrible. I had a filter in that came with the refrigerator for two years and never had any bad ice or water, and ever since I changed to this one it has all been bad, so there must be something wrong with the filter. It is supposed to be the exact filter that came with my fridge when it was new according to the website, but it does not work the same. I am not entirely sure if it is even new, perhaps they are recycled or maybe it was just defective, but it is too difficult to try to fix it through the internet and the mail, so now I will be forced to go to the local store and buy another after just paying for a new one. If I were you, I would just get your replacements at a local store, if it doesn''t work right, at least you can take it back easily and exchange it. I will not order one this way again, I will use a hardware store or department or appliance store.

I must be crazy for giving three stars. Here is a brief history of my experience with Oskar Humidifier:

FIRST UNIT. Works fine for one month, then the "no water" light came on even when the unit is filled. (Memo: Do not order from "Wizard Electroland." Seller refuses to reimburse shipping even though the item is defective. Amazon kindly intervenes.)

SECOND UNIT. Order from Amazon. Happy to have my brand new humidifier. Fill gently with water to the exact specified point. Turn "on." Item does not turn on. IT DOES NOT TURN ON.

THIRD UNIT. Order from Amazon. Kind of happy to have my brand new humidifier. It works fine for three days. Then last night at 5 a.m. it wakes me up with a tisk, tisk, tisk, risk sound. Sound mysteriously disappears; I fall back asleep and have bad dreams about humidifiers.

I also must be crazy for ordering three of these, but here is why: It is nearly impossible to find a non-ultrasonic humidifier. The design and size are perfect for my apartment. Cleaning and refilling (the most onerous parts of humidifying) are easy. It is made by a Swiss company (used to mean something) and they have very good customer service. (I contacted them for more detailed cleaning instructions than the manual provides.)

I don''t know what else to say. In theory it is the perfect humidifier, but order at your own risk.

We''ve tried a number of different humdifiers for our daughter''s room. Most of them are loud, spew white dust (hard water here), are difficult to fill, and don''t automatically shut off.

The Oskar, while more expensive than many others, addresses all of those concerns.

I can''t think of any product I''ve been more disappointed in that I''ve purchased from Amazon. This humidifier is all aesthetics and zero quality. For $150 you''d expect a certain amount of build quality from a humidifier, not cheap flimsy plastic that feels like the slightest stress could break it. The design of the humidifier makes it very easy to spill water if you bump into it, there''s nothing keeping the water in the reservoir other than gravity. Most disappointing, the blue LEDs are slowly dying one at a time... I''m down to 3 left, soon I''ll have no idea what fan speed or humidity level I have selected. I''ve noticed that the slightest bump can fool this thing into thinking it''s out of water, which is a bad thing if you have kids or pets in the house since it will automatically shut off when empty. You could easily pick up a humidified for 1/3 the price that will do the exact same job. I may as well have burned a $100 bill... DO NOT waste your money on this one, anything is better than this.

So far, I like this humidifier. I have two. The other is an Air-O-Swiss U650. The OSKAR is very quiet (though the Air-O-Swiss is, too), and since it is evaporative, there is no mist and no white dust (which the Air-O-Swiss does produce). The OSKAR emits cool air, which does seem to cool the environment a tiny bit, but that''s not a big deal. I did, however, read somewhere that heating may do a better job of killing bacteria. Anyway, the OSKAR does a great job of reaching the targeted humidity level. My only complaints are that its features aren''t that helpful there are only a few buttons, it doesn''t tell you the current humidity level (the Air-O-Swiss does), and you have to remember what one bar, two bars, three bars, etc. mean (each one corresponds to a specific target humidity level). Lastly, one thing I really don''t like is that it''s very difficult to see inside the unit and to tell how much to fill it with water. It says to fill it to the top of the stick, but squinting and looking inside, it''s hard for me to tell when I''ve reached that point, and I''ve overfilled it, which leads to flooding. However, I do like the fact that you can fill it without having to remove a big tank and carry it to the kitchen sink (which you do have to do with the Air-O-Swiss it spills water as I am walking, so it creates a mess). You can put water in the OSKAR without even moving it. Overall, it''s light on functionality but looks nice and does a good job.

I''ve had my DeLonghi Esclusivo coffeemaker for exactly 3 months. It brewed the best tasting coffee I''ve ever had. It was my favorite coffee maker by far for the following reasons: Coffee is delicious -slow brewing permits a more robust coffee. Small footprint on my counter. Stylish design. VERY easy to program and use. Large opening through which to pour water. Charcoal filter to purify water. Automatic shut off. Caraffe has large opening for easy cleaning. NON-DRIP POURING!! I was in heaven with this coffeemaker and knew I''d found the perfect one. (I''ve had many in my lifetime.)

Unfortunately, two days ago, the plastic surrounding the hot plate began to melt. The vendor from whom I purchased it has already refunded my money and has asked me to return it. I will NOT purchase another one for fear of fire hazard. This coffeemaker would have received 10 stars from me had it not begun to melt itself to death. For this reason, I''m heartsick.....it WAS the perfect coffeemaker.

Easy to use, attractive design, makes aromatic hot coffee. I like the aroma function that brews the coffee slower and uses the "shower head method" to better soak the coffee grounds while brewing. As long as the machine doesn''t break down, the 5 stars will remain. Silly me, I thought maybe was made in Italy, but no, made is China. I bought this because of good price, free shipping and attractive design. It has more pluses than that. It is a good buy!

I purchased this coffee maker in December 2009 and it worked well for a whopping 7 months. My son threw it in the trash but I remembered that it had a one year warranty so I dug it out of the garbage can. The piece needed to stop the water from dripping all over the counter is on backorder. I understand that backorders happen, but a 3 month backorder is unacceptable.

I spoke to Bev in customer service and she was as useless as you-know-what on a bull. She said that the part wasn''t necessary to operate the coffee maker. I suppose she''s correct, IF you prefer licking your morning coffee off of the counter top instead of sipping it from a cup.

Since my machine has been inoperable for three months, and there is no date in sight for the part''s arrival, I suggested that they send me a new one. Request denied. I later suggested that they should extend my warranty since my 12 month warranty has turned into a 9 month warranty since the part is on back order. Request denied.

Unless you enjoy lapping your coffee from your counter, i would stay away from this unit and company in general.

UPDATE: Oct 30th, I received the wrong part from the company and must now wait at least two more months for the correct item.

We purchased this coffee maker after doing a lot of researching and trusting many of the reviews on this site. However, we were really disappointed with the taste of the brewed coffee. We thought it was sort of muddy, at times almost chalky-tasting, and at the end of every cup there was a thick black bitter tasting ''sludge''. I am very experienced at making coffee and have never had this problem with any machine before.

Although we weren''t 100% pleased, we decided to stick it out and try to continue using this machine. However, 2 more incidents have changed our minds and it''s going in the trash now:

A) Our child accidentally broke the carafe, therefore, a word of caution: buying the matching glass 14 cup replacement carafe is nearly impossible. You can''t buy it on Amazon, and when we decided to purchase from Delonghi, the only other place we could find one, it was $50 with shipping! If you do purchase this machine be VERY careful not to break the carafe!

B) Just today, the pressure gauge on the filter broke off rendering the filter now useless. Bear in mind, this machine was purchased only a month ago!

I felt compelled to write this review to anyone out there doing their research and thinking this is the coffee maker for them. We had a terrible experience with it from Day 1, and will now be purchasing a Cuisinart for our great past experience with that brand and their easy-to-find replacement parts.

I bought this coffee maker a few days ago to replace a dated Hamilton Beach 12 cup machine. It solved having to purchase both a new 12 cup maker and a single cup brewer such as a Keurig. The single cup brewer uses the Senseo Pods which although don''t have as many varieties available as K-Cups it does produce better tasting coffee.

The single cup side is perfect for making 1 or 2 cups when you don''t need to brew a full pot. The carafe is on a hot plate and will stay warm for a couple of hours before it automatically switches off.

I''m only an owner of the product for 1 day, however I have brewed 6 single serves and 1 pot and so far, it works as described.

What I really loved about this machine was/is the concept. However, when I was deciding to purchase, I thought that it required the Senseo pads for the Single cup brew as there was very little info in the product features.

After receiving it, I was pleasantly surprised that the single cup brewing contained a little permanent filter that can be used with standard coffee grinds, awesome don''t need to pay for the Senseo if I don''t want to. It also came with a pack of 18 senseo pads as well.

Last night was perfect test of the single cup concept. I had already programmed and prepped my 7AM standard coffee brew, however I still wanted a cup of coffee (this happens often). So I switched over to the single cup and brewed my cup, then switched back and pressed the program button to ensure it would still brew the main pot at 7am. Worked like a charm!! Before I would have had to brew the entire 6 cups that were ready, toss out most of it and setup my morning brew all over again.

So far, very happy with the product. I will adjust review / rating as required, but so far 5 stars.

Update : 12/29/2012 1 Year later

It has been a year and the machine is holding up well. No leaks, no cracks, not even surface wear. If I were to notice one thing from day 1 to day 370 is the single cup brewer puts out about 4 drips after it shuts off where as it didn''t do that 6 months ago. Again, that is the ONLY thing I notice after a year of use.

We brew about 1 pot in the main craft in the morning, and at least 3 cups on the side using the permanent filter every day. If it were to break today for any reason I would say it was worth the price and would purchase again.

The Scoop was a great replacement for our worn-out Hamilton Beach. Regular brew time for the single cup is about 4 minutes. The bold is about two minutes longer. The removable plates for the single cup allows us to use a variety of cup sizes and adding water and clean up is a breeze. Have only had this for a week, but we are very please. Will let you know if we have problems later, but we are looking at another long-lasting Hamilton Beach product.

The big question is how long the filter lasts. After two months it is still working. Time will tell if it lasts for six months as claimed. I will update this review when I know the answer to the question.

I purchased this filter about a year ago, and it works just fine.

Pros:

Saves money over buying bottled water

Convenient: don''t have to lug bottled water into the house, and don''t have to throw out the empty containers

Decent looking: nice shiny chrome finish

Filters last for many months, and are easy to replace (just buy online).

Cons:

Filtered water pours out more slowly than unfiltered water. There is a switch to select filtered or unfiltered water. Unfiltered water will pour out as normal, but filtered water will pour out more slowly. To be exact, I just checked mine, and it pours at a rate of 1 fluid oz./sec. This will feel really slow at first, but since you probably do a lot of multitasking in the kitchen, you quickly get used to filling a container with water while you do something else for a few seconds.

You are attaching a big thing on the end of your faucet: this reduces the clearance between your faucet and the bottom of the sink and may obstruct other sink activities that you currently take for granted. For me, this made it more difficult to clean or fill with water a tall pot that I like to use.

Just so you know, this filter isn''t stainless steel, it''s brushed plastic that looks like stainless steel. When I installed it the unit''s adapter leaked constantly and I couldn''t tighten it up enough to stop it. I returned it after that and exchanged it for the same model in "chrome" which is a few dollars cheaper but otherwise exactly the same unit. It still leaks a bit but my water tastes better now and doesn''t have as much of a chlorine smell as it used to. There''s still a trace of piped water taste but at least I feel better about drinking it knowing that most of the contaminants are filtered out. It''s a great idea for temporary installations but is not as good as an undersink water filter. It''s a little bulky for the faucet so it interferes with dishwashing and I miss my swivelling aerator which can''t be attatched now. An undersink filter with spigot would serve much better for long term installations. All in all it''s good for the price and the electronic filter life indicator is pretty neat! It''s done wonders for my local water which is not great to begin with.

This is a really good water filter but reading many of the comments I have some opinions to them.

Leakage issues:

Alright this is a no brainer, the attachment to your faucet, if your hand tightening when you install it, its going to get loose. turning the whole filter while its on the faucet left or right loosens it.

Solution: attach it with a wrench, or if your using the extension for the inner faucet tighten that area too. also wrap plumbers tape on threads that are on your fixture. it should solve the problem. also don''t over tighten.

Price:

People say that its expensive, they are priced well all around stores, I got one for 15 at target, and they sell one at costco with 2 filters for less than the price of a single unit online with only 1 filter. also a brita single stage filter with container is around 25 dollars and takes up a lot of space in the fridge. you can just get nalgene bottles and bottle it in your fridge from the tap.

Compared to other filters, the 3 stage is the best price vs. cleaning quality. there are other units that are pricier like 5 stage or reverse osmosis, but at that end of the scale it is unnoticeable in difference esp. if you live in the USA.

Filter speed:

filters are supposed to last any where from from 2-3 months. if your water is dirty (it might come from the pipes) it will obviously wear out sooner. so what if you have to change it every month or 2, is your health worth it? over all its still cheaper than bottled water and much less of an impact on the environment using it. (plastic waste and cost of transportation and packaging)

If your water speed is really slow or barley a trickle its time to change the filter. the filtering process does take some time but it shouldn''t be that slow.

Other problems:

it does add on some bulk onto your faucet and may block sink activities, cant really do much about that unless you have a faucet that moves.

you shouldn''t run hot water though it, it destroys the filter. try to avoid that.
