Filter too small,no way for filter to stand up in humidifier.Metal frame that was on original filter helped,but now that filter is smaller it will not stay in upright position.Beside being a 1/2" too narrow not having a metal frame makes it pain to use.

I was a lttle skeptical after reading some of the other reviews saying that this filter media pad was received without a frame or wrong size. However, I received my order a few days ago and although I haven''t used it yet, visual inspection shows the metal frame around the pad and it appears to be the same size when placed on top of the existing humidifier pad. The only reason that I didn''t give it five stars is that I haven''t actually used it yet (Murphy''s Law). If no problems when I actually install this new replacement pad, I will order more to have on hand.

This replaced a Krups coffee maker (KM4065).

This coffee maker has been wonderful. As another reviewer mentioned, it has one of the best pouring spouts around. The carafe keeps the coffee hot for at least 2.5 hours, and reasonably warm enough after 3 hours. A side note: make sure you see the small arrow indicator on the lid of the carafe, and that this arrow points toward the spout of the carafe when installed. We had placed the lid on the carafe with the arrow facing the toward the handle because it appeared to be a "selector arrow" matching the selctable positions with words on the carafe for "lock" "pour" and "open", but the arrow is actually supposed to point toward the spout "outlet" while pouring coffee. It''d be helpful if Kitchenaid could modify the lid with a white (or molded) dot to indicate in which of the position it is set. That''s a negligible issue.

Coffee is brewed at a pleasingly hot temperature. Other coffee makers I''ve used have not heated the water enough.

The removable water tank is a superb feature that the Krups had which we were not wanting to give up. This coffee maker has a much better implementation of the tank that allows it to fit snugly into the coffee maker with practically no fussing or adjusting; it just settles into its slot perfectly. The Krups unit required lots of adjusting to have the tank drop into place.

The blue lighted display is very nice and matches a lot of the current appliance displays. It''s not a glaringly bright display, which is nice because the Krups unit was unfortunately like a night light. The numbers not huge, and are somewhat fine, not bold or blocky.

This unit has a feature which should be user-selectable to be switched off: the unit beeps once when the BREW button is pushed, and emits 3 short, semi-loud beeps when brewing is finished. It''s nice to have a audible confirmation that the Brew button has been pressed, or when brewing has finished, but if someone is sleeping nearby and you''re trying to make coffee quietly, the beeping can be a bit annoying.

The only other very minor issue is that the coffee grinds basket is shallow (but hasn''t overflowed any coffee grounds) and uses the "Bunn" type flat bottom filters which have been difficult to identify as to the type. Fortunately, this coffee maker comes with its own gold tone reusable filter basket, so filters aren''t really necessary. It also comes with 3 or 4 "trial" paper filters. The gold tone basket is great, but because we use a coffee grinder we sometimes have very fine coffee "powder" that can flow through the gold filter basket. Nowhere in the documentation does it mention what type of paper filters should be used; the "trial filters" provided came in a clear plastic bag with no identifying labels. Since this is a 12-cup coffee maker we''re going to try the Bunn flat-bottom 12-cup filters, but they appear to be too large, so perhaps the Bunn 10-cup flat-bottom filters would work better.

Overall, I would highly recommend this unit as one of the best 12-cup coffee makers currently available. The carafe and removeable water tank (reservoir) also help make this unit one of the best.

As a coffee addict/connoisseur, I have spent hundreds of dollars on a wide variety of different coffee makers. Out of all the fancy and expensive makers, the best one was still my 10 year old single cup Black and Decker brewer. It was completely basic, but brewed into a thermal travel mug and brewed a great cup of coffee. However, one cup isn''t enough for me. Most larger machines use glass carafes with warmers, which ruins the coffee after about an hour. I drink coffee all morning and I don''t enjoy burnt coffee. I have been searching for a good thermal carafe coffee maker for awhile now. Up until recently, there just weren''t enough on the market, and the ones that were on the market received mostly terrible reviews.

First off, this one is very aesthetically pleasing. It looks great in the kitchen. The removable water tank with fill level marks makes adding water easy. The door on the front that secures the filter basket swings open and snaps shut snugly. The included gold tone filter is a nice touch, some feel you get a better cup of coffee than with paper filters. I agree, however paper filters provide easier cleanup since you have to clean out and rinse the permanent filter every time. You don''t have to use the permanent filter, but it''s nice that it is included if you want to. The included water tank filter is one of those things where I''ll use it until it needs replaced and then throw it away and fill the tank with filtered water and not bother buying overpriced replacements. Most people have a Brita or water filtration system built into their fridge so in-tank filters are kind of overkill and unnecessary in my opinion. Using the filter is optional, the coffee maker will work the same without it.

The blue digital readout on the front is nice and easy to use. You can set the clock, brew strength (regular or bold), 1-4 cup brewing, cleaning cycle and automatic timer. I haven''t tested the bold brew strength, so I don''t know whether or not it really make any difference in the taste. The stainless carafe is very nice. The indicators on the lid are hard to read, but once you figure out the three positions (open, pour, lock) you don''t need the indicators anyway. The carafe keeps the coffee plenty hot for 2-3 hours, depending on use and fullness of the carafe. When there is less coffee in the carafe, it will cool down more quickly. My only complaint is the pour volume and angle. The way the carafe is designed with the lid and rubber seal to keep the coffee as hot as possible inside, it limits the pouring ability. The carafe pours slowly and by the time you get to where the carafe is almost empty, you literally have to hold the carafe almost upside down to get the coffee to come out the pour spout. The good thing is that it is very well sealed and will not spill. It''s just a little strange getting used to. This is a minor inconvenience, however you can take the lid off to help the situation if you are at the end of the pot.

As far as the coffee itself goes, once you get the right grind setting (I strongly recommend burr grinding your own coffee) and proper amount of ground coffee you need per cup, it tastes great. I tried using the recommended amount of 1 level scoop per cup stated in the manual, but this turned out to be too weak for me. The included scoop seems really small compared to my other scoops, so I just used a different one that was larger and followed the same 1 scoop per cup and got it tasting great. One thing I did note is that if you don''t preheat the carafe before brewing, using the pause and pour feature too early on in the brewing process will produce luke warm coffee. This is because the cool carafe is absorbing a lot of the initial heat quickly. Either preheat the carafe with hot water or allow it to brew a full pot before pouring a mug.

Overall, this is definitely the best coffee maker I have ever used. I commented on one of the negative reviews, disputing about every claim. I wonder if KitchenAid has a quality control problem because I have not experienced any of the problems I see on other negative reviews. One thing to note is that I did not purchase the item here, it was purchased at BB&B. Different supply chain? There seems to be a trend of quality control problems nowadays in this economy of cost-cutting at every turn. It''s too bad, because the coffee maker I received is a great one.

As with any coffee maker, there are always users who negatively review the product based on overflow problems. There are a lot of factors that contribute to this: size of filter basket, coarseness of grind, amount of ground coffee in filter basket and coffee roast. One of the easiest ways to help control issues with overflow is to play with the grind setting on your grinder. This is also why you need to purchase a good burr grinder and buy whole beans. Different roasts will typically need different grind coarseness and amount of ground coffee per cup brewed. It is not hard to overflow the filter basket with too fine of a grind. I''ve done it myself many times on different machines. Typically, it is not as much the machine''s fault as it is the user. Another thing to take into account is the "pause and pour" feature of most brewers. Honestly, I never use this. Not only is the coffee not as good half way through, it backs up the filter basket and makes it more likely to overflow. My recommendation is to minimize the use of this feature.

After my 10 year old coffee maker started leaking, I began a search for a replacement. Requirements were: removable water tank, thermal carafe, adjustable brew strength (bold was very important), automatic brew timer.

I almost gave up after searching through the popular brands, talking with friends about their failures with coffee makers, and trying out several duds. But then I found this Kitchenaid and all our problems were solved!

It works exactly as promised. I can fill the water tank at the kitchen sink and slip it into the back without spilling the water everywhere, I can load the ground coffee into the flat brew basket, and I can pour out of my thermal carafe without the burned taste that comes from a glass heated carafe.

As other reviews noted, there are initial confusions about the carafe lid not quite working intuitively. After analyzing the problem of seating the lid properly, I put 2 little dots on both the lid and carafe to match up for pouring, and now anyone can figure it out! It just takes a little patience to check out the 3 different positions; one to take off the lid, one for locking, one for pouring. As with all things, it just takes getting used to, and now that I have marked the positions, it''s second nature. And all the positive points overcome this initial confusion created by Kitchenaid in not clearly marking the lid.

Also, be aware that after unpacking and plugging in your new coffee maker, upon the very first activation and programming, you will receive a display notice to go to the Cleaning Cycle. I called Kitchenaid, and they said this was normal, and would clean out any manufacturing dust. Just have a big bottle of vinegar on hand! And don''t think you can just unpack it and immediately start making coffee.

It looks like a little happy robot sitting on my counter, and we couldn''t be more pleased. In fact, our friends liked it so much they bought one too!

Just got this one today, after the premature death of 2 Cusinarts. I agree that there are not that many choices for a 10-12 cup programmable coffee maker with thermal carafe and pause and serve. Very happy this one is 12 cups. Got it in silver, very nice looking. Set up was easy. The first full pot (made with water only to clean it) brewed 12 cups in 14 minutes, which I consider a reasonable time. Then made 5 cups of Starbucks Cafe Verona decaf, auto drip grind, in the gold filter basket, on regular brew setting. I used the supplied scoop, 1 scoop per cup, and the coffee came out surprisingly good (I''m not a big decaf fan). I expected that I would need to use the Bold setting, since I like my coffee strong and black but now I think that the regular setting will be fine.

I hated having to pull the Cusinarts out from the wall to fill them. I agree that you must do this with the Kitchenaid too. However, filling the tank at the sink is much neater and more convenient (we were always spilling the water when we filled the Cusinart). Didn''t bother with the water filter, since we live in an area with good tasting water. The door to the brew basket closes with a snap. I think perhaps some of the other reviewers did not close it completely, leading to leaks. It is hard to get the last few ounces out of the pot.

My only real complaint is the lid. Not intuitive, no instructions, hard to read. If you leave it on "locked" and try to pour, the coffee will come out of the fill hole in the top, not a good thing. The arrow on the lid needs to point to the spout, not the "pour" in order to pour the coffee (a perfectly understandable error by a prior reviewer). After grappling with it for 10 minutes, I just decided to leave it so it pours, and forget the "locked" position. This works fine. The manual says that the coffee will stay hotter if on "locked", but it is still hot 3 hours after brewing and that is good enough for me. But, really, Kitchenaid should redesign the lid or improve the instructions.

One last thing: I love that it has a "clean" light to remind you to decalcify it. Haven''t had to use it yet, obviously.

Overall, I''m pleased with it so far.

UPDATE: I still think this is a really good choice. Now that I have figured out the lid, it is no problem to lock and unlock it. Just takes a little practise. For those who have trouble with it leaking on the counter: I have found this to be true if you use a fine grind of coffee and make more than 8 cups. The coffee does not flow into the pot quickly enough, the coffee basket gets filled with too much water, it overflows and makes a mess. Since we seldom need to make more than 8 cups on a daily basis, this is not much of a problem personally. Overall, I think that the benefits outweigh the flaws. The coffee is very good, stays hot for a long time and the machine itself has held up well. I still recommend this machine.

My covers are clear so after installing a new filter I can see how well they trap sediment. Jura-Capresso 13548 Impressa J6 Automatic Coffee and Espresso Center Save 33% Off

Due to the high price I checked many reviews on many sites and most brands had specific problems or limitations. The Jura was consistently rated highly with few problems. When spending $1500+ I didn''t want a machine that was going to break down after a few months. I have now had this machine for about 6 months and have had no problems except a minor one explained below.

First the good

Very easy set up. I was up and going in about 30 minutes after opening the box and making sure all the parts and pieces were included.

The machine is pretty idiot proof. It tells you when to add water, when to add coffee beans, when to run the cleaning cycle, when to decalcify, and when to dispose the used grounds. The burr grinder is fairly quiet and has run without clogging. You do have to be careful not to use beans that are too oily but if they are all you have to do is let them sit for about 5 hours before using. The water capacity is very adequate at 70 oz. The bean hopper holds about 1/4 lb of beans so you don''t have to keep adding. There is no way to empty beans to add a different type, however there is a place for ground beans if someone want a different type. I like that you can change the height of the two nozzles for different height mugs and being able to separate the nozzles for brewing two cups at the same time. Cleaning is a snap. Just slide out the empty grounds tray, rinse and replace.

I like that you customize each button on the face of the machine (see below) and you can easily override how much coffee or water you use for a single use without losing the programmed amount.

Finally customer service, something important for such an expensive machine. When I registered the machine on line (and you have to do this in 2 weeks to get the warranty) I mistyped the serial number. The next day I got an email informing me of my error. Nice. Also, my mother got one of these for my father and one of the nozzles was not working properly. He called them up and they told him what to do. The nozzle was blocked and just needed to be wiped clean. My parents have well water that they bi-pass to some of their faucets. The machine comes with one water test strip to test for water hardness. When he called he asked them to send a few more and they did. Not that big a deal for them, but they did it.

Next the okay

The six buttons on the face of the machine for water, steam, 1 or 2 cups of espresso and 1 or 2 cups of coffee, are very easy. Not so easy is using the buttons on the top of the machine. These buttons work like folders on a computer and it is easy to forget where you are. These buttons are used to "customize" what comes out (heat, strength, amount per cup, language, auto on and off).

Every time you turn the machine on you need to rinse the nozzles (push a button and it runs about 1 oz of hot water through the nozzles), this is okay but you have to do it even if you just used hot water the last time. The full cleaning cycle is based on the number of rinses so if you use the machine for hot water you will end up using the cleaning cycle more than necessary. The machine also automatically rinses when it goes into sleep mode so I put a shot glass under the nozzles after use. Not a big deal, if I forget the water goes into a collection tray.

Finally the bad

There are two ways to make steam and froth. Without going into details, one of these is an attachment that doesn''t stay on very well due to the high pressure of the steam. When it comes off steam sprays all over until you push the steam button again. This happened to me a few times and while it did not burn me, it is quite a surprise. I just do it the other way

Overall a positive experience and I would recommend to family and friend.

Update on April 10th, 2012.

Unit still works well and customer support is excellent. I recently had a problem with the decalcify procedure. Emailed customer support on a Saturday and received a return email on Monday to call customer support. Called and the representative walked me through the fix (I was using too much water, you have to use the amount specified in the instructions). My father had a minor problem last week and when he called he had a solution in a matter or minutes.

This machine replaced a Spidem Divina. Although the Divina made good coffee, it was very temperamental and required numerous calls for on the phone repair. Finally, we just gave up. The Jura was twice the price and well worth it. We have not had one problem and love the coffee. I whole heartedly recommend this machine, you won''t be sorry. We purchased from a brick and mortar Sur La Table store. They said if there is ever any problem, just return and they would replace if they were unable to diagnose the problem. But, as I said, not one issue.

We have gone through 3 grind-and-brew style coffee makers in the last 3 years. They all stopped functioning or started leaking.

Extensive research and $400 off the sticker price led me to the Jura Impressa J6.

Less than ten minutes out of the box, we were enjoying the finest cup of coffee produced in our house. In the two weeks since that first cup, we are marveling at how spectacularly better a cup of coffee is when properly brewed.

I had always thought if you kept your beans vacuum sealed up to the point of grinding, you were going to get the best cup of joe possible. Well, you can banish that thought forever. The J6 grinds the beans then tamps them right before brewing, and the flavor extraction is far beyond that of mortal brewers.

Two design features make this the perfect purchase. 1] You can fill both the water tank and the bean receptacle without having to move the machine from under the cabinets! All the other brewers were top-loaders. I had to pull the them out from under the cabinet, eyeball the water level, then push them back under the cabinet. The J6 has a detachable water tank on the side that lifts about a half-inch and easily separates from the main body. Once filled, the tank''s clever disappearing handle makes it a snap to replace. A full tank lasts two or three days for us. 2] The start/stop and program buttons are super-simple to use. One session with the owners manual and you will be customizing your coffee, latte and cappuccino''s to perfection.

Obviously I cannot address reliability issues. We have a whole-house water treatment system, and specific drinking water spigots at our kitchen sinks. I''m hoping these will contribute to the J6''s longevity. If it lasts five years, it will have cost me about the same as annually buying the most expensive Grind N Brew unit.

Again, I love this machine. It''s made me an espresso snob and instead of helping me cut back on Starbucks, I drink more coffee all the time. In my opinion, the Jura Impressa J6 brews the perfect espresso, every time. If that''s what you''ve been searching for, buy this machine now without giving it a second thought. If you''re primarily a coffee drinker, think twice. If you''ve never ground your own beans and store your coffee in the freezer, stop reading now and look somewhere else. At most, it makes two cups at a time, and compared to what you''re probably already drinking, it''s kinda weak and can''t make you a full pot. It''s not for coffee drinkers that drown their drink in cream and sugar to get rid of that "bitter" coffee taste. It''s best if you appreciate a good cup of freshly ground black coffee. If you want a latte, the water spout does a great job frothing milk, both with a standard attachment that goes into the milk, and a hose that I prefer to use. So, in order of tastiness: Perfect Espresso, Great Latte, Good Coffee.

The machine also brews at what it considers to be the perfect temperature. (Translation: not as hot as drip coffee) To keep your drink at the perfect temperature, you''ll need to heat up your cups or else it may taste cold. Before I brew anything, I have to use the machine to add a little hot water into each cup. (this is actually the suggested procedure in the manual) After it warms for a minute or two, dump the water and you''re good to go. Some people may not like having to do this.

The Jura Impressa J6 will automatically clean itself when it gets dirty. All you need to do is push a few buttons, add a tablet, and dispose of the dirty water. This convenience comes at a price. You NEED to buy cleaning tablets and filters for the machine. Let me stress again, NEED. If you don''t, the machine will get dirty, or clogged with hard water buildup and... well, it might break. Some people may not like spending more money on extras for an already expensive machine but I''ll admit that the cleaning cycles work and I''ve had consistently great tasting coffee and espresso for the past year because I''ve cleaned it as directed.

My Jura Impressa J6 is the most stylish appliance in my kitchen. I love how it looks. But that beautiful piano black finish is a dust and finger print magnet. It scratches very easily. Be careful how you wipe down the outside of the machine.

I hope you like rules, this machine has a lot. Don''t try to fix it yourself, don''t scratch the chrome cup ledge, warm your cups, follow the cleaning cycle, use clean water, empty the drip tray, don''t overfill the pre-ground chute, and whatever you do, DON''T USE OILY BEANS. If you use the built in bean hopper and grinder, only use dry medium beans that ARE NOT oily. Otherwise you''ll quickly gunk up the grinder and internal workings of the machine. Look at the beans you normally use. Are they shiny? Are they flavored? Sorry, don''t use them. But if you must use oily beans, do like I do. Grind them separately and add them into the pre-ground chute.

Even with all the rules, requirements, and extra expenses, I love my Jura Impressa J6. After daily use for almost a year, I can safely say that I''ve gotten my money''s worth with consistently perfect shots of espresso, rich brewed coffee, and deliciously frothy latte''s. If you want a high end automatic espresso machine, buy the Jura Impressa J6.

I cannot understand some of the complaints that I''ve seen in reviews of this pitcher. I''ve owned one for 2 years, and just bought a 2nd, and I''ve got nothing but good things to say about them. The filter works well and makes my normally chlorine smelling water as tasty as the best bottled water. I drink a LOT of water (120+ ounces a day) and my PUR pitcher has paid for itself many, many times over in its lifetime. I don''t think the lid is troublesome at all as some reviewers have said, nor do I think that the shape is strange; to me it is perfect because it fits nicely along side a gallon of milk on the side rack of my refrigerator. The plastic is heavy duty enough to absorb some abuse, and the filters are very easy to exchange. All that is required is a quarter twist and they pop right out. I''d recommend washing the pitcher semi-frequently to keep it nice and clean, but other than that, it is about as low maintenance as you could ask for.

Great tasting water, solid design, relatively inexpensive filters, and 2 years of flawless use mean I can only give this product 5 stars. Don''t hesitate, this is a fantastic water filter/pitcher.

I couldn''t decide between the Brita Slim Pitcher and the Pur Oval, so bought one of each. And that''s not as frivolous as it sounds, because I wanted two anyway so there would always be a cold one ready in the fridge. Both of them seem to filter the water just fine. The Brita top stays on better, but the handle has sharper edges and is less comfortable to hold, especially when it''s full. Although I''ve noticed the little black specks that others have objected to, in our case they stay in the top section and never end up in the glass, so they don''t bother us. The Pur has a nicer, rounded handle, but if you''re not careful the top has a tendency to fall off, dumping water all over the shelf. No worries, though, because if you just make sure to use two hands and hold the top securely, which is very easy to do, it stays where it belongs and all is well. So, bottom line, I would give maybe a slight edge to the Pur, but either one delivers good-tasting water with a minimum of fuss.

I bought this January 12, 2008 at a local Publix. I was about to buy another Deerpark Filtered Water Gallon and decided to go with this (I can''t use the faucet attachment) I am impressed. It makes Atlanta water taste like Dasani, oh wait, Dasani is Atlanta water...but it tastes great! Much better than from the tap.

I''ve read the slow filter comments and PUR must have changed because I don''t notice the slow filling. We''re a family of three and the 7cup is perfect. I have the habit of filling the pitcher top with each glass of water. I mean I would be getting it from the tap otherwise right? No big deal. I''ve been using this pitcher for about a month, after about 10 years of Brita use. I was surprised there weren''t more direct comparisons here, so I''ll make them.

First off, there are simply no black carbon flakes released anywhere in this pitcher. While this used to be a minor annoyance with Brita, it became much worse recently, with a huge number of flakes in the top and a significant amount of smaller black particles in the bottom. This could be seen as a black residue left behind after water evaporated from a cup. I was spilling about 1/4 of my water down the drain just to get rid of the carbon.

Second, the pitcher is just as easy to use. Yes, you have to take the lid off to fill it, whereas some Brita pitchers have a flip-open top, but it''s a minor issue, and the lid seems sufficiently secure and should stay on in normal use. The pitcher also seems well built. I''m not sure what is leading to other users cracking their pitchers, but I don''t see that happening with mine.

Third, the water does filter much more slowly than Brita. Sure, that''s a minor annoyance, but the water is coming out much cleaner. I''ll take it. Non-issue.

Fourth, the water actually tastes better. I can''t quite put it in words, but it''s almost as if the water is sweeter. It''s probably because additional chemical taste has been removed. Whatever the process, I can attest to the fact that the water tastes very, very good. On some days, Washington, DC water can smell very strongly of chlorine. This filter takes that smell out. Brita did not.

Fifth, it''s priced competitively with Brita. The pitcher is slightly smaller than the more expensive Brita and slightly bigger than the cheapest Brita, so it''s priced fairly, right in between the two Brita options in terms of volume. The filters are also around the same price. Even if they were $1-2 more, it would most definitely be worth it.

I already convinced my mom to convert to Pur. She''s very happy and doesn''t know how she put up with Brita''s carbon flakes for so long.

I have not had any problems with any of the Pur products I''ve used. I have had 2 pitchers and a faucet mount system. The pitchers work great and the faucet mount has only leaked when I did not have it on tight enough. If you are not strong enough to tighten the coupling or the filter cap then I could see this problem happening.

If your filter clogs up in 10 days your water is probably full of silt or other contaminates that clog it quickly. Which means it is doing it''s job perfectly. If that''s the case, it''s not the filters fault. You can''t see fluoride, you can''t see lead and you can''t arsenic. So the people that say there water is clean and the filter clogs, how do they know it''s clean unless they have a lab test it.

Brita''s don''t clog because they only use charcoal filters. Charcoal filters only make the water taste better and don''t really make the water much cleaner. So, if you just want the water to taste better and want the filters to be cheap then buy the Brita. If you want your water to taste like Evian and to be 99% free of pharmaceuticals and other contaminates then buy the Pur. If you fill the bottom, you can then fill the top and it will hold much more water. Many people are only filling the top and then complain about it not holding a lot of water. I get 3 or 4 large glasses out of mine when I fill it up like that.

It filters slower than the faucet mount because it uses gravity since it is not the faucet mount that is connected to pressurized tap water.

A good filter is not going to filter the water quickly like a charcoal filter does. The more filtration the more steps and stages the water goes through. TAKES LONGER...........

If you freeze your water pitcher in the fridge and then complain that it cracked, it is your fault not PUR''s. If you didn''t then, well I don''t what to say other than mine is over a year old and no problems. The filters are more expensive than Brita because "again" they are only charcoal filters which are cheap and not very effective at taking out actual contaminates and the big one "Pharmaceuticals".

I''m sure sometimes there might be a bad filter or pitcher, but from what people have said Pur replaced or compensated them so I''m not sure why they are so bitter towards the company. For you people that are over reacting or unable to use common sense on how something works, go buy a Brita. If I get a Pur and it cracks, I will go and exchange it for another Pur. If my filter clog when they have not before then I will exchange it for another one.

You pay more for the filters but you get awesome water from them. People always ask me if it is bottled water when I get them a glass.

0.5 Liter Carbonating Bottles in White

The bottles themselves are totally fine, and I much prefer the 500mL size to the 1L bottles that came with the soda maker. at the time i purchased these, my local bed bath and beyond only carried the larger bottles. my two main complaints with these are:

1) the bottles are not dishwasher safe. why not? nalgene makes polycarbonate bottles that are BPA-free and dishwasher safe. I assume these bottles contain BPA and that is the reason they cannot be heated in the dishwasher. it''s annoying to wash them manually. maybe i''ve been spoiled by the dishwaher.

2) they have an unusually wide lip on the base of the plastic piece adhered to the bottom of the bottle. so despite their smaller total volume, they still do not fit in my car''s cupholders.

edit: since buying these, iv''e seen that bed bath and beyond now carries a 500mL bottle that is dishwasher safe AND has no lip around the bottom.

For me the bottles are functional and do serve a purpose, but in the most basic ways it seems that thought or time wasn''t put into the design.

It looks like a mini soda bottle but with a plastic bottom on it. This is not a streamlined normal bottom, but a hard lipped one that looks like it snaps on. At that, both bottles I received weren''t mounted straight in the bottom, and they''re glued in.

On top of that, there is a dob of glue in the base of each that is brown and looks like soda syrup-like a stain or dirt in the bottom of the bottle.

So all in all they function, carbonate properly and seal, but from a simple perspective they look silly. Picture attached.

I absolutely hate these bottles. I''m not even going to use them. The picture is so misleading. They have done some flaring bottom on this which is ''UGLY'' and now it doesn''t fit in my cup holder. I would have never bought it had they stipulated that it''s different from the standard bottle. I feel that I wasted my money.

The vendor needs to post a proper picture. The picture is misleading as it does not illustrate a major difference between this bottle and every other bottle out there.

My husband recently bought these smaller bottles for me and I found, after using the larger bottles, they have a tendency to blow soda water all over the place. You can''t wait for the "buzz" when filling these as you will have water everywhere. Just a short shot of the soda gas and then remove the bottle for capping. I too am not happy about the type of plastic used in these bottles and the wide base, as an another reviewer noted. Also, I am constantly refilling these which, I guess, means I''m hydrating a lot but it also means a number of trips to the kitchen daily for a refill. If in doubt, go with the bigger bottles. You can then pour into a smaller bottle that fits your car''s cup holders if you need to be on the go.

Iron Out Toilet Bowl Cleaner (Twin Pack)

We have very hard water with a lot of iron in it. This product works the best of anything I''ve tried. Our tanks were completely stained orange and now they are white. I couldn''t even get it off with bleach before. I''m not sure what the other reviewers expected but this does exactly what it''s supposed to do. It is not bleach, it will not clean like bleach. I was disappointed with this brush. Wish it had more strands so I could apply more pressure. Takes longer to dry than I anticipated. I went to Dollar General after I used this brush and found a foam strand dish/pan brush made by Dawn that is better allows me to apply more pressure on toilet surface and dries immediately, and it only cost two dollars. I''ll just stick with the Dawn brush or a cloth with rubber gloves. I don''t think this brush was worth the money I paid for it.

I have only had this dryer for about 10 days now, but I''m very happy with it! There is one other review for this dryer and in it they say it takes a long time for the clothes to dry... this is true. But I think it''s to be expected since this dryer can simply be plugged into any outlet unlike a normal dryer. So, smaller dryer... less power... longer drying time. The reason I''m giving this unit 5 stars is because if getting out the laundry mat is as important to you as it was to me, then the extra drying time is more than acceptable. Also, this dryer is VERY QUITE, simple to use and set up. For the first 5 loads I just had the machine sitting on the floor near a window I didn''t even have the hose out the window. It did get my apartment a little warm and humid (not since I''ve put the hose out the window of course), but I''m just making the point that it is very easy to set up.

How long does it take to dry clothes? I''m still trying to get all the drying times down myself. But I''m having much better luck using the timed dry instead of the auto dry. On auto drying it does seem to take hours before it finally stops. So I''ve just started to try and figure how long certain things dry. For example, my sheets (fitted bottom and the top sheet) I''m drying now between 60 or 90 minutes. On both times the sheets are close to dry and hanging them up for a little longer is enough. I guess this review is a little premature since I don''t have the dry times down yet. But I have the feeling 90 minutes will dry most stuff about 90 percent.

I think once I make the adjustment and get things organized drying will not be a hassle at all. And for me the extra fiddling I have to do while drying in my apartment is so much better than having the hassle of organizing taking everything out of apartment, waiting, digging up quarters, using a machine that has been used 10,0000 times instead my nice new machine.

I have owned now the Haier Washer and Haier Dryer now for 5 months and I still am incredibly happy with my purchase. Even with the very long drying times with the dryer I love not having to go down to the W&Ds in the apartments laundry room.

But there is a solution to the long drying time with the dryer: Not long after posting my review C. Mok posted this comment (note: the spin dryer is very small 24 inches high, 14 inches in diameter $134.00 + shipping and only one company seems to sell them in the US):

May I suggest complementing your electric dryer with a small spin dryer? I bought a spin dryer on a whim when I remembered those were the only things used in Asia when I was there during the 80s. It has worked really well along side my small portable washer in my small apt. I hang dry most of my laundry except when I''m in a hurry. The spin dryer cuts drying time in half easily. Most spin cycle on washers go about maybe 600 800 rpm. The little spin dryer spins at 3000rpm. On a small wash (2 bath towels) it can spin out over a quart of water (over 32fl oz) in less than 2 minutes. That is a significant amount of water to evaporate using normal dryers. This will shorten your drying time and also save your clothes from heat damage from the prolong drying times. The only catch is trying to balance the load in the small spin dryer. I find it easiest to load all the heavy cotton clothes on the bottom and the lighter synthetic clothes on the top. Then give it a good shove and compress everything tightly down. I finally bought the spin dryer to work with my Haier dryer about a month ago and now washing and drying is very similar to using normal sized machines. Now there is just a very short middle step. I''ll give examples of some of the basic loads I do each week.

Whites (socks 10-12 pair, underwear 10-12 pair, t-shirts 2-4):

After using the washing machine I put all clothes in the spin dryer. It is important to pack the spin dryer the way the manual suggests to prevent the dryer from bouncing around like R2-D2 in a bad mood. With small items like socks and underwear though, it''s pretty easy, and after experience you will see what you can just drop and press in the SD (spin dryer)and what you need to wrap around. I does sound like this middle step is a pain, but after you use it a bunch of times, it''s pretty easy and you don''t give it a second thought. When you turn the SD on, it starts to spin, shakes a bit, then settles down and gets very quiet as it picks up speed. When you first use the spin dryer, you think, wow, i got ripped off! No water is coming out!.... But wait... after about 30 seconds water starts flow out. Dribbly at first but then... wow! With a full load, CUPS of water fill your water catcher. I have had between 1 and 5 cups of water (normally 2-3), depending on what I was washing. Once the water flow starts to slow down, you turn off the machine. It only takes 2-3 minutes.

I then take my clothes and put then in the Haier dryer and set the timer to 90 minutes. After 90 minutes the clothes are BONE DRY. I''m not sure how long it actually takes, but if the load is a little smaller there is a very good chance they will be dry after only 1 hour.

Darks: 2 pairs of pants, 6-8 T-shirts, 1 sweat shirt. In the SD, you do now need to put the pants in first, wrapped into the bottom of the machine, then the sweat shirt, then the shirts. Again, after 90 minutes bone dry (as I said, they are probably done after 70 min? 80 min? I''m not sure because I just open it after the buzzer goes off.

Sheets (king size): OK, sheets are the only thing that I wash that can be slightly problematic. Because these are large items, they can make R2-D2 (the spin dryer) unhappy. You have to be the most careful here wrapping them into the spin dryer. In the Haier Dryer also, they can at times ball up. I normally wash 2-3 sheets at a time. Put them all in the spin dryer at once, then in the Haier dryer for 60 minutes EACH. I found that they don''t ball up when you dry them separately. So yes, it would still take you 2 hours to dry 2 sheets.

The Washer and dryer are freakishly quite, but the Spin Dryer does have a lot of vibration at the beginning and end of it''s 2-3 minute spin. Not a big deal because of the short time, but if you have thin floors and a neighbor under you, they might wonder what is going up every 45 minutes for 3 minutes while you are doing laundry. I suggest getting 1 or 2 thick squares of carpet.

I did just read the comment from someone who had problems ordering a spin dryer. I can''t speak for that company other than mine arrived on time and in good shape and still works like new. I did go to the BBB link and did only see 1 complaint about the company.

For reasons I don''t understand, I was only ever able to find 1 company in the US that sells a spin dryer. Maybe some enterprising individual might think of importing some from a country that uses them more and start a business selling them. I had a friend who told me that they are pretty common in Europe. (Note: I do remember I had to wait a month to order a spin dryer from the Laundry Alternative because they were out of stock. I''m not vouching for the company just giving my personal experience.

November 6, 2009 UPDATE

I was curious to see how long I''ve had my washer and dryer to calculate how much I''ve saved in quarters (13 months x $20 = $260). It''s been over a year so I thought I''d add a first year update. The washer, dryer, and spin dryer all work like new. Which is great, I''m not sure if I''m lucky or not, but in my case they are fine. I did make the decision not to use bleach early on. I''m not sure if that has made any difference.

As far as drying. I reread my review and while it is true, if you use the spin dryer before the Haier dryer your wash will be bone dry in 90 minutes, that is with a small-med load. If you fill the dryer to the max. It will take 2-2.5 hours to dry. I just make sure to do medium loads more often.

My mom told me a secret to drying sheets! I still dry one sheet at a time for 90 minutes, but my mom said, AND SHE WAS RIGHT, if you put in a DRY towel (I use a big one) the sheet does not ball up while it spins. This has made a big difference in drying sheets, which are a pain to dry. I also bought a retractable clothesline from amazon. So when I dry sheets, (I don''t use the spin dryer for sheets because the sheets are so big they can make the spin dryer go out of balance), I hang one on he clothes line, and they dry 1 for 90 minutes. Then I take the one out of the dryer and put it on the clothes line and put the one one from the clothes line in the dryer. Sometimes I have to put a sheet in for another 30 minutes.

Also, you really do need pull out and clean out the filter after every load. It really makes the drying time MUCH faster because it allows the air to flow out of the machine. You have to clean the lint off the "catch" and also the black filter thingy. Someone posted that an improvement on removing the filter would make the dryer a lot better. I totally agree with that.

The bottom line is: It depends on your personality; which do you dislike more? Digging up quarters, piling up your soap on your clothes in a basket and making a bunch of trips to the laundry room once a week or setting up these crazy contraptions in your apartment and turning your laundry doing into an art form where you have to get creative and be a little unorthodox.

I thought I''d add another update for this dryer. It is still doing its thing :) I don''t know if I just got really lucky or what. Still works the same as when I bought it :) I do use the spin drier before using this dryer so maybe my loads are a bit lighter (less water) and I mainly use the 1.5 hour setting. I defiantly put in smallish loads. So maybe that has kept the parts from wearing down. But I do use it a lot. Probably 3-8 loads a week. It''s just so easy do do a load in my apartment and since I think smaller loads are wise. I just do use it a lot. I''m not sure how much life it has left in it.... but it seems okay for now... "knock on wood" again :)

edit 11/15: forgot to mention that you can set the dryer to a timed setting (30,60, 90, 120 minutes) and choose a higher or lower heat setting. BOY, I''m so happy I bought this. I no longer have to get quarters from the supermarket on Friday after work. This dryer really dries well. I really love the convenience of watching a football game on Sunday, and checking on the clothes during a commercial. Best investment for me EVER! I can almost guarantee if you buy this dryer, you''ll be coming back to write a positive review.

edit: 4/27/12you have to clean the black filter also really well. I roll a lint brush across it, and just bang it outside once in a while. The heat goes through there, so the better you clean it, the better your dryer will dry.

Update: 11/12, This dryer works as well as when I first received it. It''s still running strong after 2 years with doing 3-4 loads every weekend.

***Note, If you have a small place like myself invest in a spin dryer. It cuts down on the heat drying time by hours.

I have a model of this I bought about a year ago--it looks slightly different than the one pictured here but has the same model number.

That said, this dryer is GREAT. It does take a while to dry clothes, but I got it to go along with the haier portable washer, and it dries one load in the time it takes another load to wash when I use the power wash setting, so that''s pretty good.

However, the automatic settings really don''t work that well--like a previous poster, I recommend using the timed dry options.

I also don''t have the dryer vented to the outside--I instead purchased an indoor lint trap thing. I don''t know that it really does much, but the dryer doesn''t seem to release a lot of lint into my apartment. The dryer does add some heat and humidity to the apartment, but that''s great in the fall/winter. Not so much in the summer, but it still beats having to go to the laundromat.

If you live in an apartment or somewhere that doesn''t have laundry hookups or a 220V line, this dryer is a great purchase.

I sell appliances for a living, so I know quite a lot about them. I bought one of the first little Haier washers 6 years ago, and ever since, I wished there was a matching dryer. Since my washer has held up so well all this time (never a problem and I use it LOTS), I decided to buy this dryer right away once I discovered it. I''ve had it about a month.

Let me tell you about dryers: Get the biggest one you have space for, same as for washers. and you''ll be happier. I move often and I tend to rent small places, so this is the only one to consider; It''s either this or drying racks! All the other portables currantly out there are bigger and more cumbersome than this one. This one truly is portable in that I can pick it up and carry it easily. But, it will not hold as many clothes as the bigger ones. It is, however, perfect for the little Haier washers.

If you want faster drying times, be prepared to have a 220v or gas line installed. (Your landlord will go for that, sure!) Otherwise, 120v portable dryers are going to take, on average, 90 minutes per load. The flip side of this is that you can operate it almost ANYWHERE, and your landlord doesn''t even need to know you have it!

120v dryers also do not have to be vented outside. They do not produce nearly the lint of larger dryers. You can if you want.

Tinier dryers may produce an extra wrinkle or two over largers ones. They don''t have as much room for tumbling, so, be sure not to overload this one. That will also affect drying time. No dryer should be filled more than half full of wet clothes, unless you like ironing out wrinkles.

I ordered this from Amazon, thinking that I was getting the one with the window and the dial. Instead, I got the one with the electronic controls, which is the nicer one. I''m not sure the window/dial version is available anymore. This has all electronic controls with many little lights. Very hi-tek! It has a sensor dry feature that is usually accurate. Sometimes, I''ll need to add some manual dry time afterwards, especially if I''ve mixed lightweight with heavier weight fabrics, as that throws the sensor off a little. Of course, keeping like-weight clothes together would be better.

There are 3 auto-dry cyles: Normal, Heavy, and Delicate. Use Heavy for Jeans and Towels. I''m not sure when I''ll ever use Delicate, as 120v dryers only dry on low heat! That is why they take longer to dry. I believe that cycle uses an even lower heat. There is also timed dry available. Drying status lights (drying, cooling, done, and check lint filter) are helpful. It has an end-of-cycle signal. It does not have a drying rack, as some descriptions on the web have stated.

This, like my little washer, is surprisingly well-built! It has a metal body (I was expecting plastic). I think it will last a long time, hassle-free, just like my washer has.

My only real complaint is the lint filter. It seems fragile and it is the most bothersome one I''ve ever had to clean! There are two filters nested together, one fine and the other course, and both have to be cleaned. It is located on the back of the drum and doesn''t pull off that easily. I imagine this is necessary, though, because of the dryer''s small size. I wish Haier would have made a stronger, more convenient filter. THIS IS THE ONLY REASON I AM GIVING THIS DRYER FOUR INSTEAD OF FIVE STARS.

Overall, if space and portability are your chief concerns, Haier''s small washers and this dryer are very, very good! I highly recommend them. However, if you have more space, and stay put for many years, get something bigger.

I bought this drier to go with my compact Haier 23E washer. I am mostly happy with it, although the product description is somewhat misleading.

1) Venting. On pictures, it looks like this dryer needs no venting. It claims you can place it anywhere. It has three (!) lint filters, so lint should not be a problem. But the user manual says that this dryer *must* be vented outside or else drying performance will suffer. I found this to be true. I made myself a window vent kit & the dryer performance increased dramatically. This dryer does not move a lot of air, so the moist air expelled from it will stick around the dryer, only to be sucked back in, leading to long drying times (and according to the user manual, voiding your warranty). Note that ducting cannot exceed 6ft. The dryer ships with a standard 4" duct adapter. Once vented outside, this dryer does an excellent job. It dries most things in 90 minutes or less. Light fabrics seem to dry in 45 minutes. Vented indoors, I was about to return this thing. You might be able to vent it indoors if you place it in an area where there is enough air movement but this dryer is meant for small spaces where it chokes on its own moisture if not vented outdoors.

2) Capacity. This dryer has a fairly low capacity. You can dry one queen sized sheet and pillowcases, or two bath towels along with some socks/underwear. If you put too much stuff in the dryer, it will not dry things AT ALL. This is because the heat is coming from a little vent in the front the dryer which will get blocked if the dryer is too full. I once attempted to dry a queen sized sheet and duvet at once and thought the dryer was broken since after one hour, the sheets were still soaking vet and cold to the touch. I then removed the duvet and dried the sheet by itself and it was done in 45 minutes.

3) Watch your fingers. This dryer can burn your fingers. The heating element is located inconspicuously in the front, just to the lower left of the opening. The dryer normally runs a cool down cycle, but if you interrupt the dry cycle, do not touch the front inside wall of the dryer near the vent. It gets very hot. This dryer is different in that the heating element is in the front and the exhaust in the back.

Overall, I am very happy I don''t need to go to the laundromat. This dryer does a great job if you don''t overload it and vent it outside.

KDF/GAC filters have been around a long time. They are vastly superior to other filters. I have, in addition to the under the counter water filter with a KDF/GAC cartridge, a whole house sediment filter using a 10 micron pleated filter. The sediment filter keeps material from ending up in the KDF/GAF filter and thereby extending the KDG/GAC filter''s useful life.

The current KDF/GAC filter now in use was installed in 1999. It is rated at 20,000 gallons. (This filter can easily do twice that amount and still be 93% to 99% efficient depending on what substances are being removed.) At 20,000 gallons, that would mean 4,000 days at 5 gallons per day for drinking and cooking purposes. That is just short of 11 years. We don''t use 5 gallons per day for making coffee, cooking food and drinking purposes and this filter is still going strong and doing an excellent job. You may use tap water to rinse food for preparation, just don''t cook with it.

You will know when the KDF/GAC filter''s life is coming to an end when the water flow becomes weak. Even then it is still working, but time to replace the filter.

Was much lighter than the KDF filter it replaced, but that''s to be expected since it was about half the cost. I think it''s good value. There was a mixup with the order and I was initially sent the wrong item. They told me to discard the wrong item and the order was corrected with no fuss.

I don''t have ''bad'' water, but don''t like the subtle chlorine flavor/smell, which this takes care of.

Most other filters need to be replaced every three to six months or so; not because they are ''used up'', but because the bacteria that survives until it gets inside a carbon filter (the part that removes the chlorine, that kills the bugs) starts colonizing it.

Theoretically the copper/zinc portion protects the rest of the filter from growing the bacterial slime that forces you to throw out other kinds of filters. I can''t really attest to that, short of cutting open the filter and feeling for slimy ''ick''.

This kind of filter is a great money saver on rentals with in-sink filters and/or ice makers inline before the fridge (check your refrigerator manual most of them allow you to completely remove or to install a ''dummy'' filter, so you can use a cheaper filter inline with the input water supply). You know the tenants won''t ever change a filter, so the inline version of this will take care of the fridge for years.

After about two years of this being on the cold water side of the kitchen tap, it still tastes OK and has good flow for everything. Filling water bottles, coffee, kettle, pots, etc.

The filter somewhat reduces (but does not eliminate) the scaly build-up on things like hot water kettles and coffee makers. The kind of stuff a little vinegar knocks right out.

If you''re buying this for Moen''s roman tub faucet, get ready for some fun. The Moen roman tub faucet has an extra deep socket for this cartridge. This means that the standard cartridge puller will not be long enough. Here''s what I did:

1. First remove the handle

2. Remove the extension piece. It just pulls out

3. With a pipe wrench (with duct tape of the cleats), remove the decorator bezel

4. Remove the cartridge retainer cylinder nut. It''s plastic and is screwed out from the inside. They have a special tool for this but I just used some pliers to get it started and then it screwed out by hand.

5. The cartridge is now free and can be pulled. It''s a tight fit and a standard puller is not deep enough. I used a piece of perforated plumbers banding. Just bend the metal into a long U with a perforation at the base. Attach the screw through the bracket and into the cartridge. Use a screw driver for leverage with some perforations at the top of the U and pull up with a lot of force. With enough force, the cartridge will come out.

Install New Cartridge:

Coat the new o rings with plumbers silicone grease and jam the new cartridge into the socket. There is a notched part in the cartridge that will align with into socket. Screw the retainer piece back in and rebuild the handle in the same manner you disassembled.

Google Moen 1248 or see the insert that comes with the part for more detailed info. It''s just not quite written for a roman tub so it''s a little tough to follow.

Only 3 stars to Moen since the new cartridge smashed apart the first time I installed it. They don''t emphasize or even mention the grease. In my case it was a must. In general, the cartridge could be better built. Moen was very kind to send me a new part. Good luck finding this locally. Amazon is the best for items like this.

I chose this brand of water filter after reading reviews here and also on Consumer Reports Online, of which I am a paid subscriber. CR recommends the ZeroWater filters and Clear2O filters; unfortunately, the latter company is no longer in business. I noted that neither Brita nor Pur were recommended, even though these two brands are probably the most widely sold/known.

Also, unlike the Brita and Pur filters, the plastic pitcher of the ZW is BPA-free.

Price was in the same ballpark for the pitcher, but the filter cartridges are admittedly more expensive.

So far I have been very happy with the performance of this product. Of course, my tap water tested at a relatively clean 75, despite the tester''s geographical map claiming that my state averaged 300-400! I suspect the tester company prefers to use the highest number for each state in order to cover their backsides.

In any case, due to the already low TDS score of my tap water, I am keeping my fingers crossed that the filters will last the claimed 25-40 gallon range. If not, I will return it to the local store where I bought it since I made sure to keep the sales receipt.

Otherwise I have had none of the problems that some reviewers are complaining about, though I have to agree that the second water does filter more slowly on the second quart (when the pitcher is half full with the first quart already filtered) but that''s ok, I plan to keep a couple of glass quart bottles around for storage so that I will only need to filter one additional quart at a time. I like the looks of the pitcher, it''s ergonomically pleasant. Haven''t used the push spout because I prefer to simply pour from the top, and it works fine that way already.

UPDATE 9/14/12: I have noticed that there is maybe 1/2 to 1" of water left in the top chamber if you try to filter 2 liters at a time...if you want to get that standing water out you have to either empty at least half of the water in the pitcher or hold the filter above the water line for a few minutes for it to drain comnpletely. This is definitely an inconvenience, but not a deal-breaker...especially since there doesn''t seem to be any other pitcher filter of comparable quality on the market at the moment. I resolved this issue by using a BPA-free gallon bottle to store the filtered water, such that the pitcher is never more than 1 quart full at the bottom, tops. All the same, downgraded from 5 stars to 4.

UPDATE 9/20/12: sheesh, why didn''t I think of this before? To resolve the leftover water problem detailed above, all you have to do is lift the top compartment a couple inches, rotate it so that it sits cross-wise on top of the pitcher...then you can add even more water, which will have no trouble emptying at all, and end up with a truly full pitcher of yummy clean water! I just wish the manufacturer had included some sort of lift-tab/handle to make this easier...but I understand that some consumers would be too lazy to do this and such an admission that this adaptation is necessary, might lose too many customers. Either way, I remain quite happy with this product, simply because there''s nothing else of comparable quality on the market right now.

UPDATE 01/01/13: Well, I finally decided to change the filter cartridge about 2 weeks ago after a whopping THREE MONTHS of usage, at the rate of about 1-1.5 gallons per day...this adds up to 90-135 gallons total...and the kicker is, I *DIDN''T* really need to change it, the filtered water still tasted fine and still scored a perfect "00"...I decided to change it just to be on the safe side, and also because I wanted to test out one of the new replacement filters I had ordered from Amazon...I had bought an 8 pack in order to get the cheapest per-filter price, but had heard that some people were complaining about the replacement filters being allegedly of a different and cheaper design that didn''t work nearly as smoothly as the original filter that came with the pitcher. WRONG! I''m happy to say that the new replacement filters were identical visually, and filter just as well as the original. So overall, I am still a very happy customer!

From reading a few of the other reviews, I see that some people are complaining about the pour spout on the bottom and also having spillage issues when pouring from the top.

1. The bottom pour spout is obviously just a marketing gimmick...so DON''T USE IT! I can tell it''s a poor design, such that repeated usage will cause it to leak plus it IS too slow...just take the darn pitcher out of your fridge and pour it, that''s going to cost you what, an extra 5 seconds of your precious time? Also think about the electricity you''ll be saving by not having the fridge open while it''s pouring 10 times a day...duh! So, JUST PRETEND THIS SPOUT ISN''T THERE.

2. Pouring from the top DOES require patience and carefulness, more so than the Brita pitchers do...so what? That''s a small price to pay for water that''s actually PROPERLY FILTERED, which I cannot say for Brita or any other cheap charcoal-based filtration systems...that''s why they''re so cheap!

Sure, it''d be great if ZeroWater figured out how to not have these two problems, but in the meantime, the fact remains: THERE IS NOTHING ELSE (i.e. pitcher filter) ON THE MARKET that filters anywhere nearly this well...so, deal with it. Or, do what I do: buy a 1 gallon pitcher (glass if possible) and use it to keep the filtered water in the fridge...eliminates both of the above problems in one fell swoop.

This is a great filter! A neat device is the TDS (Total Disolved Solids) meter. I bought two pitchers and one didn''t work. Electronics is my career, so I determined it was battery connections that needed to be manipulated. I''m sure it worked, prior to shipping.

The filter is rather big, as it has several stages and it will be more expensive, to replace, compared to a Brita pitcher, which is what I had been using. The meter is fun to ''play'' with as you can check your tap water and compare your other water filter to this one. TDS is not the only thing that is important about clean water. BUT, this filter has charcoal, which will remove bad tastes.

How your water tastes can be subjective. This filter will remove most minerals and sometimes highly purified water, such as distilled, has a flat taste. I didn''t find that to be the case here.

One neat addition is a water tap on the front. If you like to keep your pitcher in the refrigerator, you don''t have to pull it out to get water. Water is all I drink, so I used to carry two Brita pitchers to my bedroom at night. I have a small ice maker in the bathroom, so I have iced water through the night. One down side is the weight of the filled pitcher. But, you can''t get highly filtered water, from a multi-stage filter, and expect the filter to be the size of a Brita filter. Because the large filter occupies more space, the pitcher is bigger to allow for more water capacity.

I live in an area with old, rusty pipes. Rust is such a problem that I have a full house sediment filter and under the kitchen sink, I have another whole house filter, with smaller particle filtration and a carbon filter. This then leads to a two stage filtration system employing carbon and sediment filters. I removed the kitchen sink sprayer and installed a filter tap. Maybe I''m nuts, but I then use this water to put into this pitcher! I have a parrot and other birds and I just don''t like the idea of drinking rust. I''m already rusty and creaky, so I don''t need more rust!

With all of that and the Brita filter, when I wiped the inside of the water bin, of the ice maker, I see rust on the paper towels! This is after a large volume of water, over time, but it still disturbs me. Maybe that comes with being a highly analytical engineer! Or, a big part is when I added the whole house filter. I had to remove a section of galvanized pipe and needed to replace it with PVC. I looked inside of the metal pipe, in place since 1971 and I was horrified by what I saw. There was something black inside of the pipe. I stuck my finger in and it was covered with a black goo! There was so much that the inside diameter, of the pipe, was reduced by 50%!

Perhaps you know understand my obsession with water filtration. I replaced the pipe leading to the underside of the sink filtraction system, but I know that when I shower, some of that goo is getting on me. Yuck! I had wondered why a black mold looking substance would form in the toilet. I really need to find out what it is. But, I''m not allowed to put in a well and I can''t force them to replace all of their pipes. Unfortunately, I can''t afford to have all of mine replaced either!

Well, I sure covered water filtration! I recommend that everyone should have a whole house filter. I plumbed mine so I can have a sediment filter and a carbon filter after that. I also suggest that you do as I''m about to. Send off a sample of your tap water to have it tested. If you do put in a whole house filter, or you just use this pitcher, I would have the filtered water also tested, out of curiosity.

A final word. The less filtered the water going into this pitcher, the faster the filter will need replacing. If you use a clear whole house filter housing (highly recommended) you can see what is being kept from going into your body and you can tell when to replace the filte. Another final word! Remember that filters filter water! So, all the water, that passes through a filter, goes through a filter with all this yucky stuff in it. So, don''t be stingy about changing filters. Your meter will help give you an idea when to change your filter. It is a great tool and a fantastic marketing device!

My family consumes fair amount of liquid on any given day between four of us: water, juices, etc. We are always in a hurry, so, as you can understand, having no filtration system all of a sudden was not much of fun. The process is easy push a button, get some water, and be on the way. Pitcher''s filter obviously is not as fast as a build-in systems but there are some features that do simplify the process upper tray: it''s pretty convenient just pull a kitchen hose, fill the top tray with water, and let it sit alone while you take care of other stuff. Come back later and boom! Your water is filtered and ready for consumption. Water delivery can happen two ways through the traditional over-the-top and build-in water valve (great for convenience).

It''s an easy yet safe enough task even for kids. The valve is tough enough to prevent our little guys to make a little lake on the middle of the kitchen yet soft enough to keep it from turning it into a workout routine. Right size and nicely designed handle design makes it easy to operate even when it''s completely full.

To my complete surprise the pitcher came with a water tester. The filter needs to be changed when this tester reads 005. Just for giggles the bottled water reads 012. It was actually really weird to realize that I''m drinking cleaner water I just filtered and there is no aftertaste.

But let me talk a little bit about maintenance. We obviously haven''t had a chance to replace the filter yet, but the installation was really easy. (No PHD is needed to do that!)

Few things though the filter lid (circle on the middle) sometimes falls off if the stream of water is too strong and it gets a bit messy with the particles coming out of the filter. Also it sometimes gets stuck, so I normally check up to see if the water is still there in a little bit (knock lightly on the lid to make it work again)

This is really a disappointment since I''d love to have crystal pure water. For 10 days this system worked and then basically stopped flowing. So we called customer service and they told us to poke a hole in each triangled area of the top of the filter. That seemed to work a bit but after awhile it just wouldn''t go.

And even if it works, expect a LONG time for the flow. I''ve heard from some in my area that it works but we did everything and it just wouldn''t work. Got the newer filters too since the one in the box has 4 triangled area and the new ones have around 8.

The problem is that at the bottom, the water has to flow through virtually a pin prick hole. I have no clue why they made the outflow that insanely small.

So unfortunately I had to go back to Brita and be content.

This is the 2nd pitcher i''ve owned and used (i had the smaller one prior to this). I''ve been totally displeased with BOTH of their products. I dont know if their design team is just lazy or if they never let any consumers test these before finalizing the design but these things have MAJOR flaws.

I''m a former britta customer, and while britta occasionally gets a dud, they are FAR better designed.

First off, there is a spiggot on the bottom that lets you get water from it without taking it out of the fridge. Ok cool idea, but it''s soooo slow. I swear it can take up to a minute to fill a large cup (i use 24 oz cups as I like to drink a lot of water). I dont like standing in my fridge letting all the cold air out while i wiat for this thing to trickle into my cup. Now it is true this sized container is a bit faster/more flowing than the smaller one, which was VERY bad. But I almost never use this feature as I didnt on the smaller one either. Neat idea, but but poor execution. Not to mention when we got our container it was missing a PART in there! we took the part out of the smaller one and it works in this one...

secondly, pouring from the top is better than the smaller version of this pitcher, but as someone else stated it leaks ALL over, it comes out the sides and almost always spills down the sides of the cup your pouring into, and I use WIDE mouth cups.. Seriously? did they EVER POUR THIS THING ONE TIME IN LAB TESTS?! I asume it''s becuase i''m trying to pour faster and they probably expect you to barely tip it into the glass pouring slowly and take forever to fill it, as with the smaller pitcher which is painfully slow to fill a glass , that pitchers problem is becuase there is not enough air flow, if you push the spiggot while pouring on the smaller one, it pours much faster like a britta. On this one you dont have to push the spiggot button, but if you tilt it more you get more water flow and eventually it just comes out all over the place.. So pour slowly and cautiously or make a mess..... FAIL ZERO! FAIL!

also when pouring, if you''re getting down in your water (if a few people in your family are using this and not refiling sometimes, it will happen occasionally) Or if you are just filling a very large container like a camel back or nalgene and you''re trying to get the last of the water, you''ll have to tilt the container a bit more to get all the water, almost having it completely level, but not quite, as you do this the resevior starts to FALL out as you''re pouring.. yeah it falls out of the container. I swear monkeys designed this thing.. 0 DESIGN SENSE! FAIL AGAIN! The resvior should NOT fall out if i''m trying to get the last few ounces of water!!!

Lastly the top lid is a pain to get on, becuase of the way its designed its a thin lip of plastic over a similarly thin lip of plastic and its a fairly tight fight.. not snug, but it''s precicsely made to fit around it so sometimes you have to fumble the lid about the top of it to get it to kind of ''latch'' into place.. thats not as big of a problem as the rest, but it''s still a pain..

as a suggestion, i think they should make the rear part (near the handle) of the resovior a little more deep than the front part, often when filling, the sink nozzle is near the front of the resvoir and as you hold this by the handle, you naturally dont have it level and so the tip end of the resevior fills up faster and you dont get as much water into it before it starts to overflow (which by the way goes RIGHT into the hole you pour from if your not careful now you''ve tainted your clean water... Again.. BAD DESIGN!

the water quality tastes okay. The product seems to do as advertised so i cannot say anything negative about the cleaning factor of the filter or the taste of the water, but the containers themselves are just garbage incomparison to a britta.

Try again Zero, and this time send me your prototype before you approve it, i''ll tell you EXACTLY what you need to fix.
