Set of 2 PF-4 Fluoride Replacement Filters for Berkey Ceramic Filters Save 17% Off

Set of 2 PF-4 Fluoride Replacement Filters for Berkey Ceramic Filters
  • Set of 2 Berkey PF-4 Replacement water filters. Reduces fluoride, arsenic, MTBE, Lead
  • For use with gravity filter systems that use ceramic filters
  • Will fit on British Berkefeld and Doulton ceramic filters
  • Used as a post filter, these screw onto the bottom of your ceramic filters
  • Will NOT fit Black Berkey filters.Only fits white ceramic filters.

PF-2''s are useless PVC placebos so chances are these are just the same.

I wanted these fluoride filters to work, I really did.

After running 15 gallons of city tap water (with an average ppm fluoride content of 0.30 to 0.60) through 2 x Berkey black filters and 2 x PF-2 fluoride filters I sent this sample of "filtered" water to 3M Industries for a fluoride concentration test. The results confirmed that these so-called "fluoride filters" DON''T actually filter out very much fluoride at all, if any.

3M Lab Result: 0.36 ppm of FLUORIDE (remaining in the water filtered through these PF-2 "fluoride" filters).

"The fluoride concentration result for the sample you submitted is listed above. This result was obtained using state-of-the-art equipment for accuracy. The method of testing is the fluoride ion selective electrode." (3M)

So if you just want to KEEP the fluoride in your "fluoride filtered" drinking water while adding some PVC leach-age with a sprinkling of aluminium into your drink, go ahead and blow some $$ on this rubbish.

Alternatively you could go and buy some plastic pipe fittings from the local hardware store, throw in some aluminum shavings and hang those in the "filtered" water chamber of your Berkey for a mere fraction of the cost.

you have to follow instructions and flush those under pressure to clean them up before first time use. Be sure to order a set of 2 (4 filters) when ordering with a new berkey filter. Each of those connects to the top filter which you have 4.

First of all, the PF-4 Fluoride filters came without so much as an instruction sheet. I had to remove the blue inserts at both ends of each PF-4 filter and try to figure out what to do to attach them to the ceramic filters. After hooking them up to the ends of the two ceramic filters that were protruding into the bottom Berkey chamber and securing them tightly, I allowed the water in the upper chamber to filter through to the bottom chamber, not once, twice or thrice, but four times. The reason being that I was consistently getting an oily looking, murky, contaminated mess in the bottom chamber. In fact, the unfiltered water in the upper Berkey chamber was crystal clear and drinkable, though fluoridated, as compared to the filtered, yucky looking product that was being produced in the bottom chamber. Thank goodness I had enough common sense to check the content of the bottom chamber each time rather than blindly pouring and gulping down a mouth full of murk. I even did a fifth run the day after the previous day''s disappointments, but to no avail. Nothing drinkable at all! I kept getting filtered murky water, instead of filtered Berkey water. How much patience should one have? In desperation, I decided to detach the two PF-4 Fluoride filters from the ceramic filters, and allowed only the ceramic filters to filter the water. At last! It was then and only then that I finally obtained crystal clear, clean, drinkable water in the bottom chamber. Thus, the Berkey ceramic filters worked perfectly, but not the PF-4''s. I am therefore justifiably returning the malfunctioning PF-4 Fluoride filters for a well-deserved refund.

24 Oz. Sprayer Bottles Save 51% Off

24 Oz. Sprayer Bottles, Pack Of 3These spray bottles are nice and were shipped quickly, but please be aware that the bottles have a "stream" style and not a "spray" style. There''s no adjustment on the nozzle for a more fine, wide spray from the bottle, only a straight stream spray.

I am using them, but the top part pops off really easy and that gets irritating in a hurry. I have some old ones that I have had for decades that are much better and a much better value. Darn. Well I tried them.

I filled one of these with some cleaning solution and water and started spraying the top popped off within the first 5 sprays and had broken off from the spray tube in the bottle pretty much useless now. So glad I bought 3 of these.

These bottles work great. The plastic is sturdy and the spray is easy to adjust. Permanent marker stays on the outside of the bottle for your marking what''s inside

Want 24 Oz. Sprayer Bottles Discount?

Hey guys! I had previously did a review on these spray bottles, but I really felt the need to change it bc things have changed drastically... for the better.

One: Yes, I got the exact same bottles in the photos with no problem with shipping. At first I only got the fine mist and couldn''t get it to stream... but a friend of mine came in and showed me where I was wrong (just twist the nozzle almost all the way out... I did that before, but not as far as I should''ve to make it stream). So yes, it does spray and stream, which is exactly what I wanted. And it didn''t break AT ALL while under heavy use yesterday with Clorox Beach mixed with water in the bottle. It also never leaked. So these spray bottles are PERFECT!

Original Review:

Ok, so I read the reviews... I received my package in good time, they were packed fine and I got exactly what is in the photos. Now one reviewer claimed that it only streams and doesn''t spray... yet mine only sprays and doesn''t stream. I''m actually quite disappointed in that bc I needed the stream function as well. The spray is a very fine mist. Maybe they are shipping out different bottles or we are getting defected spray bottles. I''m not going to send mine back unless it breaks in the first few days. Though they seem sturdy, I tested it out with water to make sure it doesn''t leak (thankfully it doesn''t). And it seems to be working just fine for me in the first day. So I give it 3 stars bc it I needed the adjustments on the sprays, which is the biggest reason I got this (besides the price) and it didn''t have it :(

Alkaline 3.5 Liter Water Pitcher

Alkaline 3.5 Liter Water Pitcher, Make Your Own Alkaline Mineral WaterSo many of my friends saw me using this thing and wanted water from it. My entire family now drinks akaline water

My Brita water pitcher is more sturdy than this one. Seems a bit cheap. The top always falls off so i don''t even use it anymore. I mostly filter it and put it into another pitcher. For the price i wish it was better quality.

Buy Alkaline 3.5 Liter Water Pitcher Now

This was by far the best price I could find on the net for an alkaline pitcher.

It works great and raised the PH of the water up at least 2 points.

Our water is rather acid (around a 5-6 PH) and this brings it up to about an 8 ph.

I got a test kit from home depot and tested the bottle water that we drink as well.

It also tested at a Ph of 5!! I was suprised how acid it was, especially if you are paying for what

you think is healthy water! We switched to a different brand of bottled water that consistently tested

at about a 7.2 PH and we put that through this pitcher which raises it to about a 9.5 PH.

More and more research seems to be showing that drinking water above the neutral PH of 7, is

very beneficial to your overal health. I hope that is true. I did notice right away after about 2 weeks of drinking

water through this pitcher that my skin got a lot clearer.

Overall I am very pleased with this product!

If you are looking to increase your water PH level in a cheap way and get some added health benefits

then I think you will be happy with this product!!

Still don''t understand why they say 3.5 liter, when I measure it, it''s not 3.5 liter and never get 3.5 liter.

RO MIGHTY MITE SYSTEM 50GPD Save 34% Off

RO MIGHTY MITE SYSTEM 50GPDWhere I live we have had a few notifications from our local water department of elevated levels of arsenic; NOT GOOD. So I''ve had it in the back of my mind to get an RO system for some time;

and this little gem fit the bill. I am what you would call "mechanically challenged". I didn''t want an elaborate under the counter system with it''s own faucet that would have to be installed; to complicated for me; besides I live in a rental; and I was impressed with the reviews here too.

My order arrived in 10 days (there were two weekends in between)So it was fairly fast.

The only complaint (and I notified Abundant Flow) were the instructions. I felt there should be pic''s explaining the hardware but in the back of the booklet, was a flow diagram.

First off, remove the aerator from your faucet. Attach the adapter (provided with the unit)by screwing onto faucet where the aerator was. The Quick Disconnect then attaches to the adapter. Connect the RED hose to the Quick Disconnect that mates with the fitting installed on the faucet. No tools required On the Red hose, unscrew the collar slip it over the red hose connect the hose to the nipple on the Quick Disconnect; which locks the hose to the quick disconnect

UPDATE: I didn''t know that when you push the quick disconnect up onto the faucet, BE SURE TO PUSH UP ON THE COLLAR OR RING TO LOCK IT ONTO THE FAUCET. Otherwise when you turn the faucet on the quick disconnect will just pop off the faucet. Now I can turn my faucet on full force and fill the container in less time.

I almost sent this unit back. I was unsure about all the water being expelled from the Yellow hose (BAD WATER) which is the drain and little coming from the Blue (Good). I contacted Mark @ Abundant Flow and e-mailed me that you will get about a 4 to 1 ratio of waste (Bad) to Good water. It (Good water)filled up a 32oz juice bottle in just a few minutes. So I''m happy about that. It comes with enough hoses to hang yourself so just cut the excess off just make sure to have enough Yellow for the drain.

I highly recommend to have some containers on hand to store purified water in. I''m using empty gallon milk jugs.

UPDATE

I keep forgetting about the water filling the jug and overflowing so I created an overflow system see pic

UPDATE:

It took 35 minutes to fill up a gallon milk jug

I also ordered an Inline DI Adder Kit here on Amazon for the removal of the arsenic; that unit is the final filter that connects to the Blue line.

So all and all I''m very pleased with this unit once I understood how it works and mounted it to the wall in just minuets; the bracket unfolds see main pic for that then just folds back onto itself.

Update:

I purchased a TDS meter and unfiltered water measured at 106 PPM and filtered 001; note this is within the margin of error so I would presume that it would actually be 0 also I have installed a DI final filter

This unit works FANTASTICALLY well here in NC where we have in excess of 80 psi water pressure. In FL, where we had limited water pressure, the unit worked, but was very slow.

This unit works VERY well. When I make Ice with this water, sometimes the ice grows "horns." This tends to only happen to water that is very nearly pure.

Buy RO MIGHTY MITE SYSTEM 50GPD Now

Other osmosis units have hoses all over the place, when I got mine I attached three lines only, the other lines are hard lined into each other on this. A very nice small unit I sit on my counter by my sink. My average TDS is .025;from .380 TDS to .025 with city water is awesome. A very good price compared to others also.

Evolution Robotics Mint Automatic Floor Cleaner

Evolution Robotics Mint Automatic Floor Cleaner with Pro Clean, 4205I bought this to replace a Scooba wet floor cleaner that, as with all Irobot products I have owned (5 in all) went wrong just out of guarantee. I despaired of getting a wet floor cleaner apart from Irobot. then I saw the Mint and figured it was worth a try. I got the 4205 as i had read reviews that the one without a reservoir dried up too quickly and I didn''t want to go to the model above this one mainly because of price, there being no guarantee that it works well.

I was pleasantly surprised. It works very well. I would say apart from the grouting between tiles in my Kitchen it works better than the Scooba. How? Well in part because it is so easy to use. The Scooba involved Removing brushes, cleaning them, cleaning pipes, flushing the tank, filling, rinsing. All in all it might have been easier to use a mop. the mint you just fill the tank wet the cloth and it''s ready to go. Therefore I use it more thus keeping the floor cleaner. you can also try different cleaning solutions, some of which work very well.

I have never used this just as a floor brush. I have a Karcher RC3000 for that but as a wet floor cleaner it is great and almost silent. Looks cool too!

Given hindsight I would have gone for the next model up. As the mint is so easy to use, it would be great to have a faster charge time and thus use it just like a mop when the floor needs a wipe. The 4205 and below have over 6 hours charge time, which is far too long really.

This a a great way to maintain your floors. I have two dogs and a cat an it picks up hair and other debris. It is not a vacuum and won''t pick up larger pieces of debris. The mop function is also very good. I did have some problems operating it when I first tried to use it so I called customer service, I was able to leave a message and get a call back. I was called back within an hour and spoke to a very helpful and knowledgable person who spoke clearly and who I could understand. Great customer service.

The mop function is good for laminate floors. I have laminate "wood" flooring.

We got the 4205 as a replacement for a defective 4200. So much better. Runs longer. I am not too impressed with the resevoir on the wet pad, but it is better than not having one. I have physical limitations that make sweeping and mopping very hard on me. I try to run a sweep cycle at least every other day, but sometimes I forget and do a quick sweep of major pet hair before I run it. Not that it won''t pick it up, but it keeps SAM running longer before I have to change the pad. When I do, I pull off the hair I can and flip it over to use the other side. He usually goes over my kitchen/dining/hall area twice on a cycle. Better than my kid does :). I can run a sweep cycle and a wet cycle on one charge, unlike the 4200. He also doesn''t get stuck under the fridge door or chairs like the 4200.

Things to remember:

It is a sweeper, not a vacuum.

It is hard on them if your floor is really dirty all the time. And even once it may require 2 cycles and frequent pad changes.

If you treat SAM right he will work great for you.

If pet hair gets on wheels, pick it off.

Oh his name...Sweet A$$ Machine or SAM for short.

One of the best, most practical purchases we''ve made. I was looking for a water system to use both at home and on travel, camping, etc. I actually keep our Berkey next to the sink and use it to filter drinking tap water, for bottles and even for the cat! The Berkey works very well, water tastes pure and it''s easy to clean and maintain. Customer Service has been fantastic. I misplaced a part and seller immediately shipped a new one. Had questions, and they were answered thoroughly.

BISSELL ProHeat 2X Upright Deep Carpet Cleaner

BISSELL ProHeat 2X Upright Deep Carpet Cleaner, 9200AThis product was easy to put together, easy to clean, and does an excellent job at removing stains. My carpet looks brand new. Yes, this device adequately heats up the water! I was so surprised at how light it is, and how easy to operate. I would recommend this device to anyone that is no longer willing to pay top dollar to have professionals steam their carpet. My high traffic areas due to small dogs and small kids are very clean now.

I bought this a few weeks ago, and wish that I had gotten it years ago, when I was first thinking of it. We bought and moved into a house a few months ago. The folks who had lived here before us had quite the menagerie of animals, and apparently little concern for potty training them. When we toured the house it wasn''t so noticeable to us, but when we brought our own pets (2 large dogs and an elderly cat), it became clear rather quickly that the scents were still noticeable to them. So, they began marking their territory. We''d catch them in the act, clean it up immediately, and didn''t have too many problems -until the amount of incidents began growing, and we couldn''t catch them all.

I have used quite a few sprays, powders, and finally broke down and rented a carpet cleaner from a place that was on my way home from work. That was the worst idea, because their machine somehow ended up making ALL of my things smell even MORE like urine. So, I reluctantly rented a rug doctor from a more reputable source (how sad is it that my neighborhood grocery store is a more reputable source than a vaccum repair shop?), and got to work. I spent literally sixteen hours of the 24-hr rental period canvassing our entire house twice. It smelled and looked great, got rid of the other rug cleaner''s pee smell, and most of the spots in our house. There were still a few stubborn ones, which I attacked with some of the enzyme sprays that were highly reviewed on Amazon.

Now, the rug doctor is pretty neat. I''m not gonna lie. I was kind of wishing I could just buy one of those, because renting one every month seemed redundant. So, I got online (amazon to be specific), and started comparing consumer carpet cleaners. I read many reviews, and finally settled on this one, because quite a few people seemed to prefer it to a Hoover. I was going to order one Prime, but then caught my dog barfing up his dinner, and decided I needed one pronto. It''s the same price at WalMart, so I drove there post haste and picked it up. I wanted to get the ProPet, but it wasn''t in stock, but this was my second choice, and it hasn''t disappointed yet.

The unit itself was relatively easy to put together I did it all by myself, no help from the husband at all. No missing parts, nothing backwards, I did not even swear once during the entire process so you''ve got to know that it''s user friendly. I''m not exactly mechanically inclined, but it only took about 20 minutes, which I attribute to the fact that I was watching TV at the same time.

It runs smoothly, and isn''t too loud. It''s not one where you can watch TV while you use it, but the noise is comparable to our vaccum. I can easily have a conversation over the volume without feeling like I''m shouting. I like that while the clean water bladder is nestled in, it''s easy to remove and replace. I''ve been taking it out each time I rinse the dirty water resevoir, just to make sure that everything is rinsed off and I am completely paranoid of it somehow getting stinky like the vaccum place''s machine, so I rinse it out thoroughly. I haven''t figured out how to take apart the top quite yet so that I can rinse out the extractor completely, but it looks like it will just require a screwdriver if I really feel the need.

It extracts water pretty well, too as good as the Rug Doctor. The only thing that I view as a bit of a catch 22 is that while it''s good at extracting water, it''s also good at extracting anything that the vaccum missed. I don''t know if that means that I need a new vaccum, but it always seems to have bits of carpet lint and fur that it will leave balled up behind it. That part is nice, because it''s not going to clog up the extractor, and the lint balls are easy to pick up, but its still not preferable. Regardless, the point I''m trying to get to is DO NOT use this without vaccuming first. I''m a neurotic vaccumer because our dogs shed like crazy, and while the carpet looks spotless after a vaccum, it still picks stuff up.

I gave this only 4 stars, because I wish that there were more attachments when it comes to the tools. It has a handy little brush, but I was hoping for more versatility. It''s also a bit clunky when trying to get it up and down stairs I pretty much just end up dragging the danged thing, but its good for building muscle, I guess. It moves well on carpet, doesn''t catch like the Rug Doctor did (we have super thick Berber upstairs), and stores easily in our broom closet.

Overall, it''s worth the purchase price. It gets the carpets very clean, manages to catch dirt and hair that I wasn''t able to see, and has been instrumental in making my house smell better. I''ve been using it once a week since I brought it home, save for the 3x the first week to clean up residual pet messes. I''ve got quite a bit of confidence that it will last for many weeks and many cleanings to come.

Hoover MaxExtract Dual V Carpet Cleaner Save 21% Off

Hoover MaxExtract Dual V Carpet Cleaner, Black, F7412900I had the older version of this machine. I bought it about 6 years ago and after attempting to clean the rugs last month I realized it was no longer picking up the water. Opened it up and saw that the internal suction hose had split in half. That was it .. time to find another cleaner. I have had good luck with Hoovers but did a TON of research before settling on this machine. I have a dog and a toddler and both do a number on my rugs. Juice, food, crayons, spit up, urine and everything else under the sun has ended up on my carpet in the past 2 years. I did not take care of my previous Hoover so it wasn''t the best in its later life. I just brought the new one home and oh my god, the water was black. I did not think anything could bring my carpets back but this did. They are so soft and clean. I love this machine because it has a rinse button if you want to make sure you have gotten all the soap out. I use really warm water and the machine directs hot air onto the carpet as you make your passes. The carpet dried super fast and just looks fantastic. I had to fill and empty the containers 4 times for my combination living / dining room but hey, I''m not complaining now that I see the results. I also like this machine because you do not mix the detergent in with the water. This is great because if you have detergent left over you just pour it back into the bottle. Based on my previous experience, here is what I learned and can pass on to future Hoover SteamVac owners:

1. Clean your machine after each use. That means taking apart the brushes and washing out the front nozzle. This is an investment and if you want it to continue working like it did the first day, you need to take care of it.

2. Do not leave left over or dirty water in the tank when you put it away. This will wear away at the joints and increases the chances the leaks.

3. Do not leave left over detergent in the tank .. see #2.

4. Read the directions when you put it together and make sure you read how to use this rather than just take it out and turn it on. I never read the first manual and didn''t realize I should have been cleaning and using the spray button a totally different way.

This is a great machine and I hope it will last just as if not longer now that I know how to take care of and use it properly.

Ten months ago we bought $7000 of new light-colored carpeting. Two months ago we got two new puppies and one new shelter dog (none of which were housebroken), in addition to our other three dogs (one of which is a senior citizen and becoming incontinent). We live in an area with coyotes and mountain lions and we cannot leave our dogs out at night.

Needless to say, our new carpet took a huge, devastating hit while we all adjusted to our new life together. On top of all that, we live in a rural mountain community and the amount of dust and dirt and mud that blows in and/or gets tracked in is astounding, no matter how careful we try to be. I thought a few rooms of carpeting might not be salvageable.

So my Mom''s Day gift to myself was the Hoover F7412-900 SteamVac Dual V Widepath Carpet Cleaner with the Hoover Pet Formula Detergent. O.M.G. My carpet looks and smells absolutely brand new. Stains and odors that I thought might be in the carpet permanently all came out. I''m really shocked. I didn''t expect such a great result.

I love the light clean smell of the Pet Formula... it''s not overpowering by any means (and I used a lot). The Hoover SteamVac and the Hoover Pet Formula detergent saved our carpet.

As far as the SteamVac itself, I find it super easy to refill the clean water tank and empty the dirty water tank. It''s a heavy machine, so I''m glad they didn''t make the tanks any larger, as it would have been way too heavy for me to handle. The way it is now, it''s perfect... I plan to use it frequently for carpet maintenance.

I know I sound like a cheesy infomercial for Hoover now, but I can''t help it. My husband and I are beyond thrilled!

*Several months later... I just posted before/after photos of our dining room (one of the main thoroughfares in our house). I''m a bit ashamed -it''s like announcing to the public what size underwear I buy or publishing pictures of myself without makeup first thing in the morning. I mean, my carpet was THAT bad... but hey, we''re all friends, right? I want you to see the nasty carpet I had and how beautifully restored it was after using the Hoover. Just remember this: push the Hoover slowly back and forth across your carpet. Don''t rush a good thing. You''ll get fabulous results that way.

I just got this carpet cleaner from Amazon.com and I am so happy with it. It outcleans everything I''ve ever used before, including professional cleaning companies. I owned a Kirby years ago and it can''t hold a candle to this Hoover cleaner. I found it was much easier to use than the rug doctor, which I''ve rented many times, and since I own it, I don''t have to haul it back to the store and I have all the time I want to clean my carpets.

It was very easy to use, and I particularly like the clean water rinse feature. It gets all the detergent residue out, and my carpet was soft and lofty after cleaning. Just think, you wouldn''t wear your clothes washed and not rinsed.

The power is awesome, my carpet was practically dry when I finished. I got back very close to the amount of water that was dispensed. My carpet was dry enough to walk on in an hour and vacuum in 2 hours. This machine is so well made that I look forward to having soft clean carpet for years to come. It has the quality that I expected from a Hoover. I researched all brands of cleaners dilligently on the net and even looked at some brands, including Bissell, in a store before I decided on this particular Hoover machine. I''ve never been so happy while cleaning my carpets before. I had it out of the box and ready to go in minutes. It''s as easy to use as a vacuum cleaner, plus, Amazon''s sale price was cheaper than any price for the same machine that I found. I am a happy camper with this purchase!

I saw the product at a retailer, then saw it priced less on Amazon (plus no tax or shipping), so I said what the heck, try it. I have a medium-tan carpet and two dogs and two cats. The cleaner was easy to assemble. All you need is a phillips screw driver. I''m not to swift at using carpet cleaners, but once I got the hang of it, it was easy to use and it REALLY WORKED!

One of the attractive features is the large waste tank. It allows you to cover allot of area before stopping to empty it. Also, the vacuum really sucks up the water/cleaner solution in the carpet, the carpet dried really fast. I wouldn''t hesitate using it the same day if I were hosting a family get together. I highly recommend this SteamVac.

My parents told me they wanted to buy me a carpet cleaner for my birthday and were planning to get a Bissell similar to the one they have. I have a Consumer Reports subscription, so I figured I''d be able to find out what CR thought about various brands and models. It turns out that, as of January 2009, Consumer Reports hasn''t even bothered to test carpet cleaners.

So I hopped online to check out some reviews elsewhere, and the Bissell didn''t fare very well. In Amazon''s customer reviews, the Hoovers outperformed Bissells across the board. There was a sale at a local store, so I started looking at reviews for any Hoovers that the store sold. It didn''t take long to narrow down my choices to the Dual-V Widemouth and the All-Terrain (which both had great reviews on Amazon), so I opted for the cheaper one--which was also $20 cheaper than the Bissell my parents had originally planned to buy!

Well, yesterday was my birthday and we did the family thing today, so I got to open up my present and try it out for the first time. It didn''t take long at all for me to realize that my new Hoover beats Bissell, hands-down. You can stop reading now, because there''s simply no comparison.

Hmmm...I can see you''re still reading, so I guess you didn''t believe me the first time. Fine, I''ll make a few comparisons:

1. Sure, the Bissell ProHeat has a built-in heater, but you put hot water into the thing anyway and the water stays hot until you spit it onto the floor and suck it back up, so the heater offers no advantage, whatsoever.

2. The 6 circular spinning scrub brushes do a better job scrubbing than the long drum brush that most other carpet cleaners seem to have (including my parents'' Bissell and all the other Bissells I looked at during my couple days'' worth of research). The big long brush just strokes the carpet a few times each rotation, while the circular spinning brushes have tons of bristles constantly rubbing against the carpet.

3. The Hoover destroys stains and dirty patches that the Bissell could hardly even lighten.

4. The Hoover has separate dirty and clean water tanks, both about the same capacity. (There is one gotcha: the dirty tank looks like it can hold almost twice as much, but it doesn''t. You''ll see what I mean if you use it. I''ts not a problem though; just empty the dirty tank whenever you refill the clean tank.) My parents'' Bissell ProHeat has one tank that has separate compartments for both clean and dirty water. Since it''s physically only about the size of one of the Hoover''s tanks, the Bissell''s capacity is only about half that of the Hoover--which means you''ll be dumping and refilling twice as often.

5. The Hoover''s first-time use is a little more complicated than that of some of the other carpet cleaners I''ve used, but this machine has extra attachments and is easier to clean. Just read the book the first time you''re about to use it, and remember to clean the tanks and the pick-up area after each use. It''s pretty easy to figure out after that.

Still not convinced? Well, how about a little story. My parents brought their Bissell ProHeat carpet cleaner over to my house soon after I bought the place, and my dad did a thorough cleaning. He ran over a dirty patch in the hallway about 20 times, and spent a good 45 minutes trying to clean a stain in front of the fireplace--he must have gone over that stain at least 30 times. My fiance and I have borrowed both my parents'' carpet cleaner and her mom''s carpet cleaner a couple times since then, and no matter how many times we''ve tried cleaning the carpets, both the dirty patch and the stain defiantly stood their ground, just mocking us.

I ran my new Hoover SteamVac Dual-V Widepath over the hallway patch a couple times, and the dirty patch now almost matches the rest of the carpet. Then, for the true test, I took the cleaner down to the basement and cleaned that spot in front of the fireplace. I ran over it once and it seemed like it might be a little lighter. I thought, "Hmm, should have gotten a before & after shot." Then, later on, I ran over it a couple more times and seemed to make even a little more progress. "I guess that''s a tough stain, so this isn''t too bad," I thought.

Then I realized that my new carpet cleaner was still set on "rinse" for the second and third passes. I switched it back to "wash" and attacked the stain from a couple different angles. Now you can hardly even tell there was ever a stain there! I''ve had that stain for 4 years, and nothing--not spot cleaner, not carpet cleaners, and no amount of scrubbing--could put a dent in that stain. But a few passes with the Hoover erased the stain.

If you''re going to buy a carpet cleaner, buy this one.

APRIL AIRE 360 HUMIDIFIER

APRIL AIRE 360 HUMIDIFIERLike others, I was tired of constantly filling and cleaning my console humidifier. The Aprilaire 360/350 is the only whole-house unit I could find that works independently of a forced air heating system, so it was the only choice for my home with radiant floors. Buyers should be aware that Aprilaire requires installation to be performed by an HVAC professional, or else the warranty is void. I chose to install it myself, and the money saved on professional installation would easily pay for a replacement unit if ever needed.

The first thing I noticed after unpacking the unit was a manufacture date nearly 3 years prior. They must not sell many of these. The second thing I noticed was a screw in the bottom of the box. It was one of the motor mounting screws which had fallen out, and the nut was missing. This screw also connects a ground wire to the case, so the wire was hanging loose inside the unit. I located a replacement nut and reinstalled the screw. Every other screw holding the unit together was also loose.

I had no problems with installation. I discarded the self piercing saddle valve that comes with the unit and instead used a tee fitting to tap off a supply line from a nearby sink. The drain tube must not have a "trap" where it exits the unit or it will overflow. The outlet grille is almond or ivory color, I painted mine white but that''s just my personal preference. They should offer them in different colors, the plastic grille is somewhat difficult to paint properly.

Upon powering up the humidifier for the first time I was surprised to find that the fan is a lot quieter than my Holmes console humidifier, but I also noticed that it doesn''t move much air. More on that later. There is a fairly loud hissing noise from the water supply line, similar to the sound of a dishwasher filling. The water flow rate is controlled by an orifice in the outlet of the solenoid valve. The orifice causes a hissing noise as the water is forced through it. I thought I''d get used to it, but after one day I couldn''t stand it any more. I removed the orifice and installed a pressure regulator on the supply line. This completely eliminated the noise, and by adjusting the pressure I am able to limit the amount of water that gets wasted by going down the drain. Some excess water flow is required in order to get a decent amount of humidity out of the unit. 5 psi puts it right about where it was with the orifice and full pressure, but without the hissing noise. I removed the "Filter Check" gauge from my old console humidifier and stuck it on the outlet grille of the 360 so I can monitor the effects of my changes. It''s a direct indicator of the moisture level of the air coming out of the humidifier.

So on to the lack of airflow. I can tolerate a bit more fan noise and my warranty was already void, so I began looking into a faster fan motor. Upon inspecting the motor to find the specs, I noticed the fan blade was not aligned with the shroud. It was set back too far to be effective. This may be done intentionally at the factory to limit fan noise. I moved the fan forward and noticed an immediate improvement in airflow and as a result it also makes slightly more noise as the air exits the grille. It now moves enough air to pull the closet door closed, which it didn''t do before. I need to leave the door cracked open until I can install an inlet grille in the door.

Aprilaire says this unit requires hot water. They recommend installing a small dedicated water heater if the main hot water source is too far away to supply consistent 120 degree water temp. I hooked into a hot water line with 9 feet of 1/4" copper tubing, but the total distance to the heat source is much further. The small amount of flow that this unit uses is not enough to sustain hot water in the pipes unless a sink or shower is running, so 99% of the time it is getting cold water. It still works fine. I''m sure it would work better with hot water, but it does work with cold water. When it is getting hot water, the excess water going down the drain is cold so there is not much energy wasted on heating the water, most of the heat is put into the air.

The manual humidistat that''s supplied with the unit is just adequate. It seems to have about a 5-7% RH differential. Maybe this is normal for humidifiers or maybe it''s done to prevent short cycles. I have two separate hygrometers in different parts of the room about 15 feet away from the humidifier. With a setpoint of 35% the humidity will drop as low as 28% and then the unit will run until it reaches 33-35%. I think a 1 or 2% differential would be more comfortable. My console humidifier did a much better job of maintaining a constant humidity as long as I remembered to fill it. I will be upgrading to a combo thermostat/humidistat with automatic outdoor temp reset.

Overall I am pretty pleased with the Aprilaire 360. I think build quality should be improved (loose screws, poorly positioned fan blade). It''s a very simple device and I believe it''s greatly overpriced, but there is no alternative that I''m aware of. For the price I think they should include a high quality humidistat that displays current humidity level, and different colored grilles. I love what the unit does, but I rated it three stars because of high price and lack of quality control.

I''ve been dealing with humidity in the teens in the Eastern Sierra at 8,000 feet for over a year. I couldn''t sleep, my nose always hurt, my skin cracked and itched, everyone agreed something needed to be done.

My place is about 2,300 sq. ft and the humidity shot to more than 50% in the first 12 hours of operation. This unit is basically perfect regarding the size, cost and ease of installation. A professional should be able to install this unit in less than three hours. I would recommend this unit to my grandmother and probably will.

Since I gave this unit 4 stars instead of 5 my ONLY complaint is that the unit is a little loud. The fan is strong but not silent. I will contact the manufacturer and update this review based on their suggestion. However depending on the location where you install this unit it might not matter. Additionally this fan noise might be consistent with the noise of most other units so take my comments with a grain of salt.

I installed the unit near our main intake vent for our heating system to spread the humidity throughout the house when using the fan or the heating system.

I am glad I bought this unit. I was so tired of daily filling, draining and cleaning my console humidifier, and the crusty white stuff that accumulated on it (not to mention the slime mold that grew in the tank if I didn''t clean it with bleach.) This unit connects to your hot water line and to a drain, so it supplies its own water and continuously cleans itself. There''s no crusty white stuff, you just set the humistat and forget about it. It''s fairly quiet, too.

Though the unit is fairly small (about 13 inches square) and not heavy (15 lbs.) it''s more than adequate to completely humidify our 1600 sq. ft. home.

I don''t know about energy usage or reliability because I just started using it, but so far the performance has been wonderful.

CrystalQuest Faucet Water Filter Chrome

CrystalQuest Faucet Water Filter ChromeWe have been using this filter for the last one month. The water tasted bad from day 1. Initially we thought the water here at Camden NJ was that bad that it just cannot be filtered right. Today we brought a pur pitcher filter and i can say it is amazing. I realized its not the water which is crappy but it is this filter which we were using. I had to deal with the bad taste and also got a sore throat.

And i am sure even the manufacturers know that their filters dont work that is why they dont have a feasible return policy either. You can only return product which is unused and that too within 30days. If you have used it , you cannot return the filter. Yes..you cannot return. That simply means you are stuck with this junk .

Please dont waste your money on it, try pur or brita and i am sure it will do the job.

I am very disappointed with the company and its product.

Gteat filter. Bought it in white. Installed in minutes. Comes with two faucet thread adapters. Tastes as good if not beter than water from my brita pitcher and much more conveinent. Removes many more contaminents that competing brands and filter is supposed to last six months.

Sprite HHCT Massaging Handheld Chlorine Shower Filter Save 17% Off

Sprite HHCT Massaging Handheld Chlorine Shower Filter Unit with Replaceable Filter White and Chrome Trim
  • Hand-Held/Massage Head Filter, White with Chrome Finished Accents
  • 3 Spray Settings-including Pulse Massage with Stationary and Hand-Held positions
  • Increases headroom - ships with cartridge pre-installed
  • Reinforced nylon hose and holding bracket with metal fittings
  • Cartridge typically lasts 3 months

I''ve owned this shower head for about a year. It works as advertised and I''m happy to shower clorine free. I''m especially pleased to have no calcium residual clogging up the spray.

HOWEVER...I''m surprised no one has mentioned the following problem. To establish a leakproof seal when replacing the filters, one has to vaseline the rubber seals. Otherwise the water bypasses the filter and squirts out the threads between the head and body of the device. You''ve got to get the vaseline evenly spread or it won''t work. you''re supposed to reverse the direction of the filter every month and replace on the third month. The body of the filter gets gross with vaseline and the whole process becomes messy and unpleasant.

But I''m sticking with it because I like the performance.

UPDATE: I cleaned the whole thing thoroughly recently, used minmal vaseline the first time and I''ve used none the last two times with no problem. Maybe some of my issues are user error?

I have noticed a big difference with using this filter. My hair is more manageable, less tangles and less breakage. Not to mention my blonde hair no longer gets rusty colored. Plus the shampoo/body wash has more lather. For the price and 6-12 month replacement factor, it deserves 5-stars.

This item is a replacement for one I have had for approximately 7 yrs. It looks identical except for the garbage plastic bracket. It looks like solid metal but.......when I put the handle into the bracket it promptly broke and is not reparable. Fortunately I was able to ''dumpster dive'' into my recycle bin and retrieve my original metal bracket. Shame on the manufacturer!

This item seems to work but I only gave it two stars as I would not buy it again. I installed (easy enough) in our master bathroom. The price had just dropped to $30 at a hardware store. The handle is very long as it needs to integrate the long skinny filter. Because of this it sits significantly higher than any hand held shower massager I''ve ever tried. We need to be careful to angle it downward in order to make sure we aren''t spraying water over the back shower wall. The only other negative is that these long skinny filters are rated for only 3 months of typical use compared to 6 months of typical use for the non-hand held models.

For my daughter''s bathroom I decided to install a non-hand held Sprite filter and put a hand held mount underneath that. This was I could choose from a much bigger selection of shower heads (simple non-adjustable non-massaging was my choice as these last longer). There were no leaks. I will have to replace the filters half as often for her bathroom than I will for ours and the height of the shower head when placed on the mount is much better. If I had to do ours again I would do it how I did my daughter''s.

HELLO AGAIN AMAZON FANS EVERWHERE!!

The public water supply in this area of western Ma is heavily chlorinated; without exaggeration, it often smells like swimming pool water coming out of the tap. As such we use a filter for our shower and another type of filter for our kitchen faucet: PUR 3-Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount WhiteFM-9600B.

We have used this filter a couple years now & we noticed an immediate difference in both the smell of the water and how our skin and hair felt once we started using the device.

This was the second shower filter my wife purchased; the first worked well, but the design extended the length of the shower faucet so far down that I had to bend through my knees quite a bit to fit my 6 foot body under the stream which aggravated me immensely. This unit though screws onto the end of the faucet in a way that raises it up at least 10 inches further then even the original shower head. As an extra bonus the hose allows you to easily remove the shower head and use it to rinse off either yourself or the tub & shower while cleaning.

I do not often switch the water stream off the regular setting, but when I need a little massaging action on a sore back or shoulders it is nice feature to have.

Although I have not had any issues with leaking from a poorly sealed cartridge, as a couple others mentioned, the one nuisance I can report is in changing the cartridges. The original cartridges we got with the unit and refills we purchased earlier were solid white in color. A number of months back I noticed that the the new cartridges we were getting were clear and allowed you to see the filter materials inside. However, I think that since the change in color, it has been my experience, that the new filter cartridge did not simply drop in to the bottom of the unit, rather it was pressed in and seated as I threaded on the shower end. There is where the trouble lies; I have a devil of a time wrestling out the old cartridge.

I like the way the filter mounts to the shower faucet; the extra height is a blessing, I like the filters performance and the easy way you can remove the head unit from its base, I just wish it was not such a PIA to replace the cartridges (I end up removing the hose as well, then pressing something through that opening to push the cartridge out). It is a bit of a challlenge for me, it might be near impossible for my wife.

Rubbermaid Filtration Bottle Filter Refill (Pack of 2) Save 27% Off

Rubbermaid Filtration Bottle Filter Refill, Pack of 2After reading all the reviews and double checking the packaging, which says "Fits with all Rubbermaid FilterFresh bottles", I was confident that these were the correct filters for this Rubbermaid 20-ounce FilterFresh bottle but these filters did not fit.

PROBLEMS:

The filter that came with the bottle had no extra ring around the outer top edge.

This filter does not have threads to screw it into the bottle.

The part # for this replacement filter pack is 1J63. I have no idea which filter pack I need but this is *not* it.

I am so sad. The Rubbermaid Filter Fresh water bottle used to be the best one on the market, but the new filter design is a disaster. It kills the product and makes it absolutely terrible. The original design did not leak at all as many reviews state, and it was the best, BUT NOW YOU CAN ONLY GET THE NEW FILTERS, and those LEAK!!

The NEW FILTER does NOT attach to the lid, is loose and in the way at filling, can FALL OUT and get lost or dirty at filling, and NOW LEAKS ALL OVER YOU when you squeeze it!

I actually liked being able to squeeze it, I shouldn''t have to wait for it to fall into my mouth like a baby just to keep from getting soaked when it leaks from all around the rim because of the new filter design.

Why on earth would they do something so terrible and stupid? Did they want to cancel the product line by driving people away from it, only after swindling them out of money for some junk first?

This had been my FAVORITE filter water bottle since I purchased on one Nov. 13, 2011 from Amazon.com. At that time, and for many filter purchases following, the filters had a top like a bottle mouth that screwed into the lid and kept it secure and sure to be filtering your water. It was fantastic.

Some people had complained about the fact that you could never quite get the last quarter inch of water because it couldn''t be made to go into the filter, but that was no big loss and not much that could be done about it. All in all, it WAS the BEST on the market. My Brita bottle was a train wreck of a bottle, I went through three of themone was sent free from Brita because I complained about how ALL of their bottles leak all over you, but why would I want MORE useless junk? I don''t know how anyone got one of those that didn''t leak all over them.

The Rubbermaid FilterFresh bottle was perfect. Secure. Reliable. Easy to fill. BUT NOW IT''S TERRIBLE! The new filter design does not attach in any way. The screw top is gone. Now it does not stay secure to the bottle top when you go to fill and it gets in the way and can fall out. You don''t wanna put a dropped filter back in your drinking water, do you? Ew. In addition it is no longer reliably filtering your water!! Since it moves around and no longer screws to the lid, it can''t keep all the water going through the filter before you drink it, water will get around it. It now LEAKS from all around the rim if you squeeze it and GETS WATER ALL OVER YOU just like that worthless junk Brita was churning out. This is AN ABSOLUTE MESS and TOTALLY USELESS.

How on earth could they make such an obviously TERRIBLE change??? This is SO SAD. I loved this bottle, I would have kept getting the filters and if needed replaced the bottle for however long they were on the market, and I would have continued to recommend them to everyone, but now I must say that no one should ever get one, unless they go back to the OLD FILTER DESIGN THAT ACTUALLY WORKED. If they do not, then this bottle is entirely useless, an unreliable filter, a hassle to fill, and entirely too troublesome to be worth it. WHAT A MESS!!

I bought 2 of these when I took my dad across the country to visit my son in Denver. Not being accustomed to the dry air out there, my son suggested we carry water bottles with us. Since you can''t get through airport security with liquids, I figured with this we could go through security with it empty, then fill it up once inside. We filled them with tap water from the airport rest room, and although the water wasn''t super cold to begin with, the taste was excellent and it was easy to drink from. We carried them in our onboard bags, and there was no leakage (which would have been a major problem since my onboard bag had my laptop computer in it). Once in Denver, we were able to fill our bottles at any tap and the taste was fresh and clean. We also purchased insulated sleeves with shoulder straps to make carrying them easier, and the water stayed cold with the sleeves.

Replacement Filters for Aeropress Save 3% Off

Replacement Filters for AeropressThe disclaimer: I do not work for Aerobie. I have no commercial connection with Aerobie. I do confess, however, to owning two (2) Aerobie Aeropresses.

Okay, now for the part you''ve been waiting for, the review:

I''ll make this really simple: throw away all your other coffee makers and use the Aeropress. Well, you can keep your $350 espresso maker and your electric drip coffee maker, your French press, and your ibrik. You won''t USE them anymore, but you can sure keep ''em if you want to.

How serious am I about a good cup of coffee? I roast my own beans. In 1968 when America was brewing coffee in percolators, I saw Michael Caine grind coffee beans in the opening scene of "The Ipcress File" and went right out and searched for coffee beans and a grinder. People thought I was very strange because, after all, "I don''t see the difference between vacuum packed and coffee beans." But I could tell the difference. I used a plastic cone and paper filters back then, a system which has basic flaws overcome by the Aeropress. Whatever kind of coffee you''ve been drinking, it''ll be better if you make it with the Aeropress.

A word about the filters. I can taste the paper in coffee made in those drip makers of various kinds. I cannot taste the paper in coffee made in the Aeropress.

If you grind your own coffee, you don''t have to get an expensive grinder because the Aeropress is not very particular about the fineness or coarseness of the grind. Fine is better. Coarse will work. You could probably pound the beans with a meat tenderizer and come up with a grind that would work okay in the Aeropress. Whatever grind you use, none of the grit will wind up on your teeth because the economical paper filters keep them out of your cup. There are people who do like the tactile sensation of coffee grounds on their teeth such as coffee brewed in a French press or made in an ibrik. I''m not all that fond of it myself.

The coffee that comes out of the south end of the Aeropress is, certainly from a tactile and visual point of view, free from grounds. So? Well, for one thing, there are no grounds still brewing in the coffee you''ve got waiting for you in your stylish thermal carafe or in the cup you''re savoring right at the moment, and that means that the coffee doesn''t get bitter. Think about that for a moment. You get distracted, the coffee in your cup cools off. You nuke it for a few seconds. It''s now hot enough to drink, but it just doesn''t taste right. Or after a few hours in the carafe, the coffee, while it may still be hot enough, has become bitter. This just does not happen with coffee brewed in an Aeropress. Nuke that neglected cold cup of coffee sitting in front of you, and it''s all but indistinguishable from a freshly brewed cup. Pour a hot cup from the carafe a couple of hours after you brewed it, and it''s just like a freshly brewed cup. And when you drain the last drop of coffee from your cup, there are no grounds forming a reverse alluvial fan left behind. This can be a disadvantage to people who tell fortunes by reading coffee grounds. Anybody do that? Even more remarkable is that coffee stored for a day or more in the refrigerator can be reheated without an objectionable loss in quality. It''s perhaps enough to notice, but if that coffee was made in an Aeropress, don''t bet a large amount of money on a taste test, unless you''re a professional taster, that you could tell reheated refrigerated coffee a few days old from a brand-new cup.

The measure that comes with the Aeropress holds three tablespoons which the Aeropress website recommends for a five-ounce cup of coffee. Say what?! Okay, the coffee does not, as in a French press, brew for four minutes; it brews for less than a minute, counting stirring and plunging time. That short time makes for a cup of coffee that''s low in caffeine but with a robust coffee flavor. You can even make coffee with half the amount of water into an espresso cup, and, trust me on this, it is delicious. All the intensity of espresso''s fullness of flavor, but without the bitterness. Now, I have a very good espresso machine, and one day, after having used the Aeropress for several months, I wanted to experience another cup of espresso.

I''m tempted to heave a huge sigh right along in here. Espresso is finicky. My machine (did I mention it''s a good one?) is a semiautomatic. That means that it makes coffee with the same amount of pressure and at the correct temperature every time, but I have to put in the right amount of grounds and those grounds better be ground exactly right. Too fine, and the pump can''t force the water through in 23 seconds, and the coffee will be extremely strong and without crema, that thick foam that''s the hallmark of a correctly brewed espresso. Too coarse, and the pump forces the water through too fast, and you get a weak cup of coffee. And you don''t get crema that time either. So I had to experiment with the grind and the amount to the tune of three tossed shots of espresso before I got one right. Did I mention espresso is finicky? It was quite good, but I discovered that not only is espresso finicky, so am I. I had grown to prefer the simplicity of the forgiving Aeropress. Once you get past getting water to the right temperature, I can''t think of a way you can make a bad cup of coffee with the Aeropress.

And, by the way, I discovered that the correct amount of coffee grounds to use for a cup of espresso in my machine turned out to be the same as one Aeropress coffee measuring scoop.

Making a pot of coffee? Since brewing coffee in the Aeropress takes less than a minute, once you''ve got your water at the right temperature, you can brew up a whole lot of coffee really fast. A note on making coffee with really fresh coffee grounds such as those from beans you''ve just roasted: It foams up like a freshly poured beer. So you''ll not be able to fill the receptacle up to the "4" mark. The solution? Do I have to think of everything?! Fill it to the "3" mark. Do this twice and you''ve made a quart of coffee in perhaps three minutes.

One really endearing feature of the Aeropress is that it''s a snap to clean. You remove the little black filter basket at the bottom of the press, push the grounds into the kitchen wastebasket, rinse off the rubber plunger (look at the photos to see what I mean by "plunger"), rinse the basket. You''re done. Sometimes I swipe the remaining grounds off the plunger with the stirring paddle before I rinse it. The whole operation takes maybe 15 seconds. I have another Aeropress in my office where I work (as a highly paid professional, of course), and my little windowless cubicle -I mean my spacious corner office with panoramic view has no running water. I found that I''m able to clean it almost as well using a damp paper towel. I save the rinse for later.

Now, the word "plastic" has the connotation of "cheap" or "flimsy" for some people. Bear in mind that telephones and bowling balls are plastic, and nobody thinks of those two items as flimsy. The Aeropress is made of what appears to me to be very high quality plastic. There are no rough edges. It''s thick and strong. And it''s made in the United States, something that''s apparently a value for the company. So for all of you who want to buy American, here''s your chance: invented in America by an American and made in America.

The Aeropress requires that the user have the ability and the patience to bring water to the right temperature, 175 degrees Fahrenheit. If you don''t have a thermometer, you''ll have to buy one. I have the kind you can stick into a slab of meat or dunk into an Aeropress. It works just fine, and it''s not very expensive. Under five dollars as I recall at my local hardware store.

How bothersome is it to bring water to the correct temperature? It''s not. I experimented for a few minutes and discovered that in my microwave, water poured to the "3" level on the plunger thingy was brought to the right temperature in one minute on high. How hard is that? Or if you''re not up to measuring the water, just stick your thermometer into the whistle on your teakettle and soon after you hear the water making that noise like it''s about to boil (somewhere around 165 to 170 degrees Fahrenheit), it''ll be at 180 degrees. I like this temperature because when you pour it into the Aeropress plunger, it cools off to just the right temperature of 175. Your mileage may vary.

There might be easier ways to make coffee, but I know of none better.

This makes a great cup of coffee. One of my favorite discoveries was when I read the instructions and they mentioned rinsing off these filters and reusing them. I had never thought of that, but considering how coffee filters DON''T decompose well in the compost, I love this idea and the amount that comes with the Aeropress will last a long time this way without ordering the extra pack. Just rinse and re-use.

These filters are a part of a system for making coffee/espresso that I love. But when I bought the contraption that makes the coffee, I didn''t realize it came with so many filters.

Save your money and just use those that come with the thing. They will probably last me a year or more--and I drink a lot of coffee--plus, they say you can rinse the filters and use them more than once if you want to be more green and conservative in your filter use.
