AnyWater Mini Bio-Mineral Pot Produces Alkaline Mineral Water PLUS 3 Replacement Filters Save 13% Off

AnyWater Mini Bio-Mineral Pot Produces Alkaline Mineral Water PLUS 3 Replacement FiltersThe people at Best Water Inc. in Canada (the makers of the AnyWater portable filter) are terrific. They''re friendly, they care, and they want to solve your problems. If you send them an email, they''re likely to call you, which is pretty cool. Not many companies do that. If only the product were as good as the customer service.

I love the look of the filter. It''s cute, the colors are nice, the shape is pleasing. It was easy to assemble, but after that my problems began. Though the pot claims it holds 20 oz., the funnel top (where you pour in the water), holds about 12. But not a big deal, right. So you have to fill it twice if you want to drink that much water. A bigger problem is the cartridge failed to drain completely most of the time. And if it doesn''t drain completely then you can''t fit the filter cap on, which you''re supposed to do to pour off the water. I cheated and just lifted the cartridge out of the container and held it over my glass while I poured the water out of the container. A bit awkward and challenging. But I was willing to live with it. Until I discovered that the unit leaks. At first I thought it was because I hadn''t screwed the cartridge piece on securely. But no, it didn''t seem to matter how secure it was. I''m guessing it was the cartridge itself and the fact that it didn''t drain. Customer service suggested I shake the cartridge, which I did. One time it worked. The next time it didn''t. After a while I got a bit fed up. And finally decided they really need to fix the design flaws. Customer Service even admitted that other people have problems with leaking. Faulty cartridges, I suspect.

If you decide to send back your filter beware of the warranty. The web page offers a 30-day warranty and you get a full refund (minus shipping) ONLY if you haven''t used the filter. At all. If you''ve used the filter I thought the 30 days was for trying it out then they deduct a 15% restocking fee. And if you live in the U.S., shipping to Canada can be expensive.

Holmes S1708 Humidifier Bacteriostat Save 18% Off

Holmes S1708PDQ-U Humidifier BacteriostatFor several years we have used a large humidifier during the winter months. Despite frequent cleaning and care, we had to replace the humidifier filters every few weeks. We started using the Holmes Bacteriostat last winter and only had to replace the filter a single time, three-quarters of the way through the winter.

Follow the directions on the bottle and not only save money by not having to replace the humidifier filters as often, but it can also save you from breathing mold spores growing on an untreated filter (before the filter even looks like it needs changing).

From the bottle''s label:

Holmes

Humidifier Water Treatment

Model S1705

* Prolongs the life of wick filters and warm mist heating systems

* Helps prevent lime and scale build-up

* Provides easier cleaning

My motivation for buying the Treatment was to increase the lifespan of the wick. I was only getting a few months life from a wick, using about two per winter. Using the Treatment, one wick is lasting more than one winter.

And the bottle lasts more than a winter, so it''s worth it.

I hate to recommend W*lmart, but I bought my last bottle there for less than $2. That was still during the end of the humidifying season. Guess I should have bought two. I also bought their last half-dozen HM3600 humidifier wicks for $2 each (in July), when you couldn''t find them for less than $12 anywhere on eBay.

I''ll need another year to determine just how much longer the wicks are lasting, now that I''m on the Treatment. I just checked my wick. I think I used it for almost all last winter. It''s just a little soft all over, but no serious deterioration. And no smell, just in case you''re counting.

The instructions recommend adding a capful with every 3 gallons of water -as a start -and then after a while, you''re supposed to determine whether your water needs more or less. I used a little less, and it still did the trick for my wick, apparently. My water is very soft. The instructions say harder water will require more Treatment. Granted, that''s not a lot of guidance.

I didn''t know if it''s allowed to combine bactericide with the Treatment, so I didn''t. Between the Treatment and being careful not to allow the humidifier to sit with water if it was turned off, the water never got smelly.

Before we tried the S1708 in our humidifier MA0800, we had to replace the filter about once per month. I would buy a case of 6 filters for over $60 each winter season. Since our baby was born we have decided to leave the humidifier running year round. I have used a bottle of this and am now ordering another and have only used 2 filters this entire year. I went to change it like normal, but the filter was like new. The only time I''ve had to change the filter is when we left it off for a few weeks with water in the tank.

Great product that saves me money. Thanks Holmes!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

We could not find this item anywhere then i looked on amazon.com and here it was. You have to use antibacterial even when you get a ball with the machine that is said to do the job.

I love this product. I like the larger bottles and it really makes our room clean smelling not musty and molded. Our maching stays super clean and free of all bacteria and molds using this. I would not be without it.

If you are using a humidifier and they say you do not need to add chemical, wrong. Buy this and you will see the difference and how clean your machine and air stays.

Wow, The taste was just terrible. I bought 4 of these filters thinking what a great price vs. the manufacturer cost. I guess you get what you pay for. I tried the filter and gave it a chance for the first week or so thinking it just needed to get all the impurities out but after 20 gallons or so the taste remained. I would definitely not buy this product. I am not even sure its safe to drink the water.

I bought this filter expecting an original Sears Kenmore 46-9014 as stated at top of listing, but instead was sent a replacement Water Sentinel replacement filter that was smaller and will not fit a Sears Kenmore 46-9014 as stated on package of filter. They do not clearly state that this is a replacement, only at bottom Part NumberWSA-1 Kenmore. How does anybody buying this know this is a Water Sentinal replacement with that part number, and 5 reviews saying this is from Sears and not mentioning this is a replacement filter from Water Sentinel. I would have kept the 2 filters I bought even if not from Sears if they would have fit and not leaked charcoal all over the place.

Do yourself a favor and buy a Sears or Amana water filter. I bought the Amana from Amazon for around $30 and it is the exact filter as the Sears Kenmore 46-9014.

They also did not give me a full refund. They charged me a restocking fee, and I was out the $11.58 to return this garbage. They do not stand by their product, and this is an Amazon seller.

Sears has very good merchandise. I have bought from sears for many years. I would consider buying from sears again.

Put it in the correct way and you shall have clean water.

After running a couple of gallons of water thru the filter, you will be all set.

I saved the water which I had to run thru the filter and then watered the flowers.

I feel like I should save a whale next.

Bialetti 6799 Moka Express 3-Cup Stovetop Espresso Maker Save 12% Off

Bialetti 6799 Moka Express 3-Cup Stovetop Espresso MakerRecently picked up a 3 cup Bialetti Moka Express while on holiday and couldn''t wait to get it home and broken in. I''ve tried stove-top Italian coffee makers before, and this model has not disappointed.

Sturdy and well made, this unit only has about five parts, all of them metal or heavy-duty plastic so very little can go wrong. This should last ages if properly cared for.

Just remember to keep it simple; fresh, cold water in the lower chamber (stopping *before* you get to the brass outlet valve) and fill the grounds basket with an espresso grind coffee (good excuse to buy more coffee) without packing it too tightly. Place on your stovetop ring and don''t go anywhere. Wait a few minutes, and you have an excellent espresso to start the day or to add to steamed milk after dinner. I can''t wait to have some with a cigar this weekend. I''ve been trying some Cafe Bustello the last few mornings and it''s been great. Yeah, I know it''s canned, but so are most of the coffees in Italy and Latin America.

The only problem I can foresee is needing a larger one for company, but unless you need gallons of espresso each morning, this is great for two to share.

I bought this espresso maker while in Rome in 2004. It works great. Poe Boy is correct aluminum does not rust; it corrodes so he has E. McNair on a technicality. E. Mcnair is correct that the bottom of the coffee make will corrode and leave a white oxide inside. The solution is in proper care (I learned the hard way). Wash the coffee maker by hand, towel dry. Store unassembled. Water gets trapped in the filter and will drip into the base over time and start the corrosion. I have started doing this and the white oxide has not reappeared. So, take proper care of it.Bon Appetite

Unless you are ready to be ruined for any other coffee, and the three cup size will not be big enough! Decades of my life wasted. I''ve discovered real coffee so late in life, my only lament about buying this espresso pot is the tears shed over all those mornings I *could* have had REAL coffee...

Easy to use, a little time consuming to clean, handsome enough to leave out as a decoration. Unscrew the bottom, fill the bottom half with cold water, fill the little filter cup with fine ground coffee (note that "espresso" is a grind, not a roast), screw it back together, and put it on the stove top. In five minutes or less, you have the most incredible coffee ever. With the internal parts, it is not hard to clean, but time consuming, especially given the time it takes to cool off enough to take apart (the other reason to get a bigger one, the little one is too slow to reload).

The styling is a little retro, but handsome enough to lend a kitchen a quirky flair. Oh, but that''s trivia next to the coffee that comes out of it.

I''ve been using a couple of Tchibo coffees in it with super results, and look forward to trying other fine grinds in it.

Don''t do it, don''t get this monkey on your back, don''t ruin yourself for all those lesser coffee makers, and don''t touch my espresso pot (we need alone time).

This is a beautifully designed device, but the marketing people misdescribe it. They say the "3 cup" Moka makes three 2-ounce "cups" of coffee. It fact it makes very precisely two 2-ounce "cups," not three.

When you fill the water chamber to the top (just below the coffee chamber) it holds exactly six ounces of water. But the water stops coming out as coffee when the water level in the chamber drops below the funnel mouth. This is when the machine "burbles" as people say. Then you have two ounces of water still in the water chamber, and four ounces of (quite good) coffee in the coffee chamber. That is all the coffee you will get in one brew. Two 2-ounce "cups," not three.

The engineers designed a very precise two "cup" model. But then marketing said "Hey, this takes six ounces of water! Let''s tell people it makes that much coffee!" It does not.

Not a Bialetti. Very, very cheap product. It doesn''t even feel like metal. There isn''t a brand or trademark. See my photos.

I have owned Biallettis before and the reviews you read for those can be trusted. They are great and last forever. All of the wonderful reviews are for the real thing. However, it seems like some of us are now being sent a very horrible product sold by "Tumble Trade". By calling it a "Bialetti", doesn''t this violate some kind of trademark regulation? In my opinion this constitutes fraud. Additionally, the lid was broken when I received it. I will be returning it asap.

P.S. I bought the 3 cup maker

Frigidaire FRA073PU1 7,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner

Frigidaire FRA073PU1 7,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner
  • 7,000 BTU cooling capacity
  • Cools room sizes up to 290 sq. ft.
  • Swing air direction control
  • Antimicrobial mesh filter; Rear top filter access
  • Electronic controls

I''ve had this unit for a week or so and it''s working very well. Better than expected, in fact. It cools like crazy.

It''s not nearly as noisy as I expected after reading some reviews on other sites, but it is a bit noisier than a small window unit. Certainly nothing you can''t live with if you need the cooling and don''t want to mount a window unit.

To those who may have issues with or questions about the hot air hose or the drainage of condensate water, read on. The user manual is rather skimpy in these places.

First, the hot air hose. When you attach the adapters on each end make sure to stretch out the end of the hose and see that the last coil gets engaged by the internal raised "threads" of the adapter as you screw the adapter on to the hose. Screw on the adapter until it tightens well onto the hose, at least one or more full turns. Next, slide the unit end adapter into its slot on the air conditioner. As you go to engage the window adapter end of the hose into the window adapter your goal is to engage the small hooks on the end of the hose adapter with the small slots around the large hole in the window adapter, and then rotate the hose adapter slightly clockwise to lock it to the window adapter. If you find that the hot air hose tends to "kink" as you rotate the hose adapter to lock it to the window adapter, disconnect from the window adapter and slightly tighten or loosen the hose end adapter on the hose so that when it engages the window adapter the hose doesn''t try to kink. Then you will have a relaxed hose that is locked to the window adapter and doesn''t try to unlock itself.

Next, and this is important, the condensate water. Some reviewers seems to be a bit perplexed by the drain hose issue. Nowhere in the manual does it say to use a drain hose in cooling mode. The condensate water only needs to be drained when using the unit as a dehumidifier. I''ve had my unit cooling a hot several rooms for a week and have never taken the plug out of the drain hose connection. Here''s how it works. Recent air conditioners make use of the water that drips from the evaporator (the cooling coils) to increase efficiency by collecting the condensate water in an internal pan and then spraying or dripping that water on to or over the condensor coils (the hot coils right after the refrigerant compressor). This helps to cool the condensor and increase the unit''s cooling power. Any remaining water vapor that doesn''t evaporate during this process goes out the exhaust along with the hot air. (This is also one reason why the manual recommends not having any very sharp bends or dips on the hot air hose so any remaining water vapor does not tend to get trapped on its way outside.)

Note that the manual DOES say that you have to drain any remaining condensate water from the BOTTOM drain fitting before you move the unit. This is to prevent water in the internal pan from splashing out as the unit is moved.

I have no affiliation with Frigidaire; I''m just a retired engineer who knows a little about a lot, and a lot about a little, so take my advice or not as you see fit.

I have been using this unit for 4 non-stop days now and it has worked perfectly. The unit effectively cools a 200 sq ft living room and 2 medium sized bedrooms with little strain and I have been pleasantly surprised with it''s performance.

The rollers on this unit are much better than other portable AC units I have seen.

I did not purchase online to avoid damage during shipping which I experienced with a previous portable AC order.

Attaching the hose was annoying but not overly difficult.

I just bought this unit and it seems to be working great so far. I did not buy it fro amazon so there was not potential for it to be damaged during shipping. It cools my room very nicely and the setup wasnt too hard. The hardest part of the setup was attaching the adapters to the hose. It took a while but if you extend the hose ends completely and turn very gently without pushing the pieces should attach. The window installation was simple.

The unit makes noise, but not any louder than your standard window unit. the compressor is quieter than a traditional window unit, but the fan makes a humming noise. I think the fan is a little stronger because it needs to draw the outside air across the compressor and blow air out the hose. However I dont think its any louder than a hotel unit.

I havent tried the dehumidifier option yet. That would probably be my only regret is not buying the higher BTU unit with some evaporative cooling through the hose. I just felt I did not need that much power to cool my room and the higher BTU unit was much larger in size.

Want Frigidaire FRA073PU1 7,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Discount?

I have two of these units, one in each of my kids'' rooms. It''s really not too bad. I love the noise the fan makes because it provides white noise to help the babies sleep and not overhear other noises in our house. It''s not so loud that it interferes much with the baby monitor and hearing them cry. Just loud enough to help the kids sleep. :)

i have not needed to use the dehumidify feature so i don''t know if it works well but for me it was well worth the price regardless. It took a few minutes ti get the hose on... and my windows are smallish so i didnt need the whole conversion kit included ... i just slapped it in my window and duct taped that bad boy in there. Sooo easy. That way i dont have to damage my window frame with screws and holes or anything. I pop it out in the fall and pop it back in for summer.

Took me 3 minutes to re install this year.

I bought this unit as an open box item from Best Buy to keep my bedroom cool. It took me about 15 minutes to install it, and it is now working great cooling my room. I can''t figure out why so many people had trouble with installing this unit. It all seems pretty straight forward. I''m able to move the unit around without the hose falling out like other reviews stated.

I''ll try to do a follow up review after using it for about a month to see if any issues arise.

Frigidaire FRA12EPT1 12,000 BTU Portable Heat/Cool Air Conditioner Save 13% Off

Frigidaire FRA12EPT1 12,000 BTU Portable Heat/Cool Air Conditioner with Remote ControlBe very careful not to tilt unit when transporting it if tilted it MUST sit for at least two hours before starting it. This unit has worked well continuously for two weeks. I put it on a sill-height table so that the water would drain well and the exhaust tube would be straight. My only complaints are:

1. The fan never goes off no matter what setting it is on (the compressor does go off, but not the fan).

2. When cooling, a lot of heat is generated in the exhaust hose an insulation sleeve would be nice.

3. The drain tube is way too short.

The machine was fairly easy to set up, and it does cool the room reasonably well, but I was expecting a heat pump....not so----according to the documentation received with the machine, there is an auxiliary heater, NOT a heat pump. We will see how well this heater works this winter. One other thing....the fan runs continuously, it does not shut off when the compressor kicks off, and it is fairly noisy.

My ancient apartment has almost no ventilation throughout and is always ten to fifteen degrees hotter than outside. Those crazy summer heatwaves sometimes get my room into the high 90s and as high as 105-110! It is unbearable. I could no longer take the sleepless nights in the heat and picked up one of these units. I had to "ghetto rig" the exhaust hose up to the crank out style window using a ton of cardboard and duct tape. I have it sitting on a metal computer desk that is level with the window sill.

Pros:

-Will drop the temp of the room around ten-fifteen degrees and keep it there. While not as great a window mounted unit, I''ll gladly take 85 degrees over 95. The best performance I''ve seen so far is walking into my room @ 85 degrees and eventually getting it down to 70 (took 6 hours of continuous use).

-Remote.

-Timer so you don''t end up running it all night.

-Not as loud as I was expecting it.

Cons:

-Produces a ton of water via the drain. It took no time to fill up a five gallon bucket.

-Air blows straight up. I had to rig a piece of cardboard to deflect the cold air into the rest of the room instead of straight into the ceiling and back towards the hot exhaust tube.

-The exhaust hose always comes loose from the unit

-Exhaust hose is not as flexible as I was hoping.

A quick tip I''d like to provide is sealing up all the doors and windows leading into the room you have the unit working in. The edges around my door have huge gaps that let in tons of hot air from the rest of the apartment. Some foam sealant tape and a door sweep helped with those problems and contribute to keeping the room cool.

This unit has kept my kitchen down to 77 with its thermostat set on 72 during the summer''s first 90-plus days here. Not bad, since I knew I was buying a portable (and therefore less efficient) A/C instead of a window or through-the-wall unit.

The salesman told me it had an internal bucket to collect the water, and that it would shut off automatically when full. He said it didn''t have automatic evaporation of the moisture created by cooling and dehumidifying, which is common in modern portable A/C units, but I was fine with having an internal bucket and automatic shutoff. Just like the various dehumidifiers I''ve owned. However, after I''d paid a separate contractor to bring this very heavy unit to my home (the appliance store considered it "cash and carry" and therefore ineligible for their usual delivery service), I found out that it has no internal bucket. The owner has to attach a garden hose and use an external bucket, which will merrily overflow if the unit is left running with no one at home to empty that bucket as needed. Since the drain hose plug is lower than most windows, putting the hose out the window and letting it drain outside isn''t practical unless the A/C unit can be raised off the floor.

The air exhaust hose does just love to come loose, and duct tape is the answer. Also, you''ll need to either take the whole hose assembly out of the window so you can shut the window against heavy, wind-driven rain; or you''ll need to rig some sort of outside cover for the hose, because that hose leads down into the machine and it''s just begging to funnel rain inside.

Overall this unit meets my needs, but it wouldn''t if I had hoped to leave it running while away from home for long periods of time. I have no idea why Frigidaire thinks an external drip bucket is a great idea, or why they can''t come up with a better air exhaust hose design. From a major brand name, in an expensive machine, I expected better.

The FRA12EPT1 12,000 arrived quickly and in perfect condition. It took my electrician less than 45 minutes to hook it up. No additional wiring was necessary, just plug into any 3 prong household outlet. I was fearful that the unit would be noisy but it has surprised me by how quiet it is for such a powerful piece of machinery. From looking at the picture, I wasn''t sure if the air flow came out the top, sides,or both. It comes out the top. Local temperatures have ranged from 37-93 degrees so I have a pretty good idea of how heating and cooling are going to work and both have been adequate to keep my 12x16 sun porch comfortable. I will give this heater/cooler the highest recommendation!!

Cleancaf Coffee Maker and Espresso Machine Cleaner and Descaler 3pk

Cleancaf Coffee Maker and Espresso Machine Cleaner and Descaler 3pkMy Keurig started acting funny. Coffee was not as warm, it started to make louder noises during the brewing process and the coffee sizes were becoming less and less reliable (example: a tall travel sized portion was much less). The machine was acting up because it was clogged with scale. Easy solution: de-scale.

I''ve used vinegar in the past for all of my brewer descaling and it has worked satisfactorily. However, vinegar is not a product I keep around that often, it smells when it''s used in a descaling situation and it takes up a lot of room if stored. That said, vinegar does work ... but I like these Cleancaf packets better.

Pros: they are small, easy to use, and this purchase gives you 9 uses.

Cons: is an irritant, may be more costly than vinegar

I believe a reviewer mentioned a "blue" color so that one could tell if the product was through the system adequately. For me, this was not the case. The color was cloudy white, not blue. But after several runs through my Keurig, it worked.

My method of use:

1) I have a Keurig B70 Single-cup K-cup brewer. I used a large Pyrex Pyrex Prepware 1-Quart Measuring Cup, Clear with Red Measurements measuring cup to prepare the mixture and catch the mixture.

2) After I prepared the mix in warm water, I poured it into my Kuerig water reservoir and ran it through cup cycles (about 4 of them).

3) I thoroughly rinsed the water reservoir and used clean water to run through more cup cycles on the machine. Using my Pyrex, I could watch the water become clearer and clearer.

4) I ran 3 reservoirs of water through before I was satisfied it was clean enough and there were no traces of this product left. That worked.

After I was done, the coffee came out PIPING HOT at the set 129 degrees F. The portions were even and the machine was brewing much more quietly and efficiently. Descaling is not one of those things that one usually thinks about too often until a brewer starts to get moody. This is a great product to have on hand to take care of the brewer blues.

5 Stars!

I got a sample of this product in my new Hamilton Beach Brew Station. The first time I used it, I could not believe how great it is.

Things I like:

Dissolve in 4 cups of water, pour in coffeemaker. Dissolves easily.

Run through the coffeemaker, then wipe and rinse parts. I said "wipe", not "scrub"! First one I ever used that I could do that. I was very impressed.

Two subsequent run throughs with clear water. The cleaner is tinted with a blue color, so that you can see if you have got it all rinsed out.

Then you are done. That''s it. No more muss, fuss, or mess.

It does say to use it once a week. I find once a month is plenty for us, but that would depend on coffeemaker usage. Fabulous product.

I paid almost twice as much for this because I thought it was three boxes. I think that one of the reviews even said that this provided 9 applications. Wrong! Don''t be fooled. Cuisinart DCC-450 4-Cup Coffeemaker Save 46% Off

Cuisinart DCC-450BK 4-Cup Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Carafe, BlackThere are just two of us so a large 10 cup machine is not practical so we bought this beautiful little machine for our kitchen. To date it has worked flawlwessly, everything the Ad professed. I wonder about the missuse some others have experienced that have caused them problems. We have had none of that.. I do wish there was a permanent filter available, I don''t like the paper ones. But small price to pay for excellance

I have had this machine for a little over a week now, and am overjoyed. I have owned more expensive "full-size" machines, and have always found that the quality of the coffee they make is quite poor when you are only preparing three or four cups. This cuisinart is a pleasant change on that score. The coffee I made this morning was flavorful and hot, and certainly better than what I can get at Starbucks or the equivalent. I''m a bit baffled by the negative comments I have read about the machine''s design. I''ve had not even a little trouble with pouring, removing the lid, etc. In short, get this machine if you want high quality coffee in three or four cup doses.

As a student, my coffee pot is my life-blood. I adore this little guy. I''ve had it for about a year with no technical problems. I will agree with the other reviewers that the caraffe will dribble if you don''t pour quickly, and it does not stay hot long after the auto shut-off. However, this is rarely a problem for me as I am hardly ever still around 30 minutes later (must be nice!). My coffee is perfect every time, the machine is easy to clean, and it''s compact and fairly stylish.

One other warning: it has a feature where you can pour a cup before it is finished brewing (the filter basket blocks the drip if you remove the caraffe), but I would not recommend doing this. When coffee brews, it does not brew at the same strength for the entire brewing cycle. The water that first goes through the coffee grounds encounter more resistance, thus spending more time going through, thus making the beginning of the pot a lot stronger than the the last of it. You really need to let the whole pot (or however many cups you are making) finish brewing before drinking the coffee. This, too, is not something I''ve had much problem with, as the brew cycle is really fast 5 minutes for 2 cups. Anyway, just a little coffee tip.

Everytime I pour a cup of coffee, I think to myself "I need to go write a review!" because of spillage. I can''t seem to pour it in the maker itself or into a cup without spilling water or coffee. It''s a very cute coffee maker and it makes about 2 medium sized coffee mugs of coffee. It keeps the coffee hot and the sneak a cup works fine for me. Never upset about how it tastes or looks...just how it pours. So have a paper towel handy.

Cuisinart did it again! I bought this because I wanted a coffee maker for work that had an auto shutoff. They all make coffee but so few have the shutoff. This unit shuts itself off after 1/2 hour, which is perfect the coffee is not ruined beyond hope by then and the workplace is secure from conflagration. In addition, it makes great coffee of course that is dependent on the coffee and the amount you put in. I like it strong. I was afraid it would spew coffee on the inside as it brewed, which is what the Melitta of almost the same design does, and I was afraid it might leak, which the Mr. Coffee tends to do. I have owned the 4-cupper in those two brands, as well as a couple others. I don''t find the carafe a problem, nor do I find the water reservoir a problem. The aforementioned brands each had their own quirks as well. In fact this one has the best reservoir fill procedure of all that I have owned.

I like that it has no glitz. Just make the coffee and in half an hour it shuts down. Perfect.

Crown Berkey Water Filter System Save 7% Off

Crown Berkey Water Filter System With 2 Black Berkey FiltersI ordered the Crown Berkey last year and have been using it since then.

It arrived within the specified time in great condition. I had ordered 2 additional black ceramic filters to use in the Berkey and those arrived in the same package as well.

It is so easy to assemble..I had it together in less than half an hour.

No electricity required for the Berkey to do its job and those ceramic filters last for years with minimal cleanup required every few months.

The water from the Berkey definitely tastes better than water straight from the tap.

It is easy to refill...although I don''t have a sink hose that can be used to add water directly to the Berkey, it is no problem using a jug to add water.

Since I have the Berkey kept on my kitchen counter, it is not possible to look into the chamber from above unless I hop onto a chair or something but instead, I just hold the reflective lid above the Berkey to see what the water level is at.

The Berkey has already paid itself off. I don''t understand how people can continuously buy those gallon bottled water seeing that it all adds up expense wise and also all that plastic is detrimental to the environment.

Also, who knows whether that bottled water actually lives up to the claims on the labels.

I just need to get 2 Fluoride filters to add into the Berkey and then I will be all set.

Everyone should own a Berkey.

I received my Berkey anxiously and put it to work immediately. My water smells "swampy" right out of the tap. The smell is removed once filtered. I am pleased to report that this product operates as described. The stainless steel dispenser is pleasing to the eye. I did elect to get the optional sight glass. However, I removed it and put back the original spigot. The sight glass starts to leak out of the top of the sight glass when more than approximately 3 gallons are in the bottom tank. I prefer to fill my Berkey at night and have it filter while I sleep. All of my water for cooking goes through the Berkey. I have a ppm meter but haven''t recorded the difference between the Berkey, Tap and Ozarka (Delivered Water). The smell test is enough for me to use the water for cooking/coffee. I am more interested in Fluoride removal and will buy the appropriate filters for that purpose in the future. I highly recommend this system.

My old water distiler broke after 10 years of use. I wanted a replacement water purifier system that didn''t use $60/mo. of electricity (HI elec rates). I chose the Crown Berkey.

After 2 weeks of using the black charcoal filter, I decided that I didn''t care for the taste. It''s better than tap, but not as good as distilled. I purchased 4 7" white ceramic filters and now the water tastes better, but still not as good as distilled, but still good enough for me now.

Cons:

1. Taste. Standard charcoal filters are not good enough for me. Ceramic is better, but adds cost.

BTW I called Berkey customer service and they did have a bad batch of charcoal filters in April and May of 2011. They fixed the problem and to indicate the fix, new filters have a black grey (not just black) base color with ribbing/manufacturing marks.

2. Flow rate.

Berkey claims that a Crown Berkey with 2 black filters has a "flow rate" of 6 gallons per hour. Misleading. Perhaps _initial_ flow "rate" is 6 gph, but it will take 6+ hours to filter 6 gallons.

With the 4 7" white ceramic filter setup, the flow is much better, but still nowhere close to 6 gph.

BTW, I called Berkey customer service and they gave instructions on how to clean the outside of the filter and prime it. These procedures helped but did not solve the flow rate problem completely.

3. Capacity.

The Crown Berkey has a capacity of 6 gallons in the unfiltered section, but each filter you put in takes away roughly 1/4 a gallon of capacity. Thus a 2 filter system has a net capacity of 5.5 gallons and my 4 filter setup 5.0 gallons.

4. Taste.

Yes, I''m picky. I''ve been drinking distilled water for 10 years and HI tap water tastes awful to me. If HI tap water is 2/5 stars, then charcoal Berkey is 3/5, ceramic Berkey is 4/5 and distilled is 5/5.

5. Size.

The ideal placement of the Crown Berkey is 12" above the kitchen counter. This allows you to leave the valve open and fill up pitchers and gallon-sized containers. Filling it is a chore and requires the use of a stepladder and you carrying pitchers of tap water.

Pros:

A. Cost.

The longevity of the filters make the Berkey system very cost-effective.

B. Quality of Construction.

The Berkey stainless steel materials are of very high quality.

C. Quality of Water.

I can see the minerals the filters trap when I clean them. It seems to be doing a good job.

Conclusion:

The Crown Berkey system is very good, but not perfect.

The part seems well made and fits correctly into my Aprilaire humidifier, doing what it should as a replacement part. The only downside is that when it turns off, there is a water-hammer sound that I didn''t have with the old solenoid. I''m not sure what difference in construction would cause it, though this valve body is metal instead of plastic.
