Philips Saeco RI9724/47 Incanto Deluxe Automatic Espresso Machine Save 39% Off

Philips Saeco RI9724/47 Incanto Deluxe Automatic Espresso Machine, Stainless SteelI have owned 4 espresso machines before this one, 2 manual (De Longhi), and 1 fully automatic (Saeco Odea Go). So I have a pretty good idea about what a good espresso should look like and what an espresso machine can or cannot do.

I got this Incanto Deluxe as a replacement for the Odea Go that died a sad death after 18 months of service (that''s another review). On the positive side, the Incanto looks great, is very versatile and fully customizable. One can program almost anything from the temperature of the coffee, to the amount of coffee ground and the amount of water to be put through the ground coffee. The enclosure of the machine is metal (very rare nowadays when cheap plastic is ubiquitous) and the whole machine looks very high quality (unlike the Magnifica for instance which looks very plasticky) The features that convinced me to go for this machine also include: i) the ability to set the water hardness, ii) the automatic descaling cycle (the Odea Go descaling is a 45 min affair for which you have to be present) and iii) the ability to bypass the beans with pre-ground coffee (for decaf, etc.). One thing I didn''t like in the exterior design was the pannarello (steam wand). On my old Odea Go, I could place a relatively tall glass (but still 250 ml) under the wand and steam the milk with one hand only (holding my 5-month old in the other arm). I could actually leave the glass on the tray, steam as necessary, then turn the steam off and pick up the glass, all with one hand only. On the Incanto, this is not possible. I can barely fit the same glass at an angle, I have to hold it there the entire time the steam is running and then I need the other hand in order to turn the steam off. So if you get this machine make sure you have both hands available or use short glasses. The other comment about the steam is that it appears to produce a _lot_ of froth to the point of having froth dribble on my hand and counter way before the milk is even warm.

I read comments and reviews about this and other machines for several days before getting this. I read about problems that other people had with it (including the ventilation issue) and I also read about some people that were happy with it. However, I really liked the specifications and I figured it may be a matter of luck and I will try it anyway. However, rather than going for the lowest price on the internet, I decided to pay more but buy it from a store when I could return it if needed.

I had no problems installing the machine when I got it out of the box. It requested to be ventilated which only involved opening the hot water knob. So much for the ventilation issue, I thought. However, about 2 days later after exactly 5 coffees made as dutifully reported by the beautiful digital display the machine ran out of water while steaming the milk for a cappuccino. The "ventilate" request was displayed and that was it! I tried to run hot water with no results. The machine also comes with a very cheap manual pump that looks like an accordion with a tube at one end. There are instructions on a leaflet (not in the manual) that tell you to fit the tube of the pump over the water valve of the machine and pump water into the system. This pump is a very sad joke. The diameter of the plastic tube does not match the diameter of the water valve so the pump would not fit in it, and it would not fit around it, either. The best one can do is to push the pump on the water valve really hard and try to pump. It''s like holding a water hose against a flat surface and turning the water on. The water goes everywhere: walls, counter top, clothes, people, etc. After fighting with the manual pump for a while I gave up and called tech support. After about 20 minutes on hold, I managed to talk to a person. She had me reset the machine to the factory settings and brew 2-3 cups of coffee. Brewing the coffee worked which meant that the problem was with the hot water/steam circuit alone. She then said she would email me instructions on how to open the machine and adjust a "turbine". Overall, this person was very nice and competent. A few minutes later I got the email with a pdf attachment. I opened it and I started laughing really hard. They expect the consumer to really take apart the machine, find this "turbine" and actually modify it. However, being an engineer and loving to take things apart, I thought it might be fun to try it. After spending some time looking at the brew group from all sides, I figure that this turbine looked completely different on my machine than it looked in the instructions. Once I took it apart, I also figure out that this turbine is no turbine at all, it''s just a valve actuated by a spring and sealed by an o-ring. The instructions stated "use removed screw to slightly widen the whole inside the turbine". This is when I gave up. If they said something like make the whole 1/10 inch or 2mm or something, anything that can be measured, I could have done it. However, telling me to make the whole "slightly" bigger is a joke. Dear people at Saeco: These things can be _designed_, you know?. One can actually figure out how big the whole needs to be _before_ building the machine, not after. And even if you are not able to do this and you go with a hit and miss approach, once you build it and figure out how big it should be, you should make sure your product leaves the factory with the correct size hole, not ask the customer to fix your design or production flaws!! Even if you get your components from China, check their specifications before assembling them.

Anyway, I put the whole thing back together and I called Saeco again. This time I talked to somebody else. This person was not so nice and appeared more interested in trying to find flaws in my recounting of the events rather than helping me solve the problem. Eventually she said I have to send this to a repair center (paying for shipping myself) after I fill in a form and submit proof of purchase. I initially thought I would do this because I really liked the machine. However, on second thoughts, I figured that I do not trust this machine anymore. I think this is an older design and if they haven''t fixed this issues after all the consumer complains on the internet, it''s probably soon to be replaced by a new generation. I really do not want to fight and fix this over and over again until it goes out of warranty and then have to buy another coffee machine altogether. I will just take this back for a refund.

I have had this machine for 3 years now and it has always worked flawlessly. The ventilate issue that people reference above has never been an issue for my machine...it has asked to be ventilated twice (each time after a cleaning) and each time I just open the steam valve and its done. I have never had a more effortless, maintenance-free espresso machine and I''ve owned many. This is simply an awesome machine that I can''t live without! We''ve made 2,700 espresso shots virtually maintenance free, so its more than paid for itself. Highly recommended!

I have had this machine 18 + months without a single glitch.. I have had to decalcify it twice in that time. The last time I decalcified it I did not replace the water tank completely and it asked to ventilate it, I then noticed my error, seated the water tank, ventilated it and once again perfect coffee... (According to the machine it has made 2862 cups) Update: Coming up on 3yrs, now according to machine 5810 cups and still making perfect coffee.. Also after reading other reviews, I have never used the hand pump to ventilate the machine, I just open the hot water/steam valve per owners manual to ventilate the system.

June 2012. Update 9810 cups & still making perfect coffee. It has more than paid for itself. (it is getting a little grubby inside, but I can live with that.)

I got this thing 4 days ago when Costco had it on sale. Awesome coffee, whether you just want an Espresso, Latte, Cappucino, or a regular coffee. Easy to use. Not too noisy when grinding, tons of options to program. So, all in all, seems like a great machine. But...I have to say I already had to use their manual pump twice to "ventilate" the system (charging the circuit with water). It is supposed to do this once when installing, and then after a long time of not being in use. Well, I already had to do it twice within 4 days. Worse, it did not do it automatically, so I had to use this 20 cent hand pump that does not properly fit. It''s ridiculous, this is a $1,200 machine. I really love the coffee, so I want to believe in it, but if this happens a few more times, I will check with customer service, and if this does not stop I will send it back and get a manual 15 bar one without so much electronic. Too bad though, coffee is really great.

Update: As I had the issue a few more times I returned the item and got another machine.

I bought this espresso machine for my boyfriend since he needs his daily coffee and keeps long hours at work. The machine has made perfect coffee and he no longer wastes time looking for sub-par coffee while at the office. He now gets hot, flavorful coffee, espresso, lattes, and cappuccinos that rival what baristas at your local coffee shops can make with the touch of a button. There are no more complaints of coffee that do not "hit the spot."

If you enjoy your coffee, consider the Saeco Incanto Deluxe machine. The machine is easy to use and fits nicely into your kitchen space. In addition, it pays for itself on demand and saves you the trouble of looking for coffee at inopportune times (e.g., when company''s over). The unexpected "coffee runs" are a thing of the past.

What the machine offers:

(1) Programmable settings to set exactly how strong coffee should be ground for the perfect taste.

(2) Programmed different coffee sizes so the perfect amount lands in the cup with the touch of a button. No more measuring or guessing.

(3) Easy to read LCD display to tell what step the espresso machine is doing and what maintenance the machine needs (e.g., "Replace water filter" or "Empty grounds container").

(4) Ability to use multiple coffee beans without emptying the bean hopper, allowing for variety without removing anything.

(5) Easy maintenance: Removable used grounds container, removable drip tray to dispose of residuals that may have been produced, and automatic descaling scale. In short, it is not a hassle to have convenience.

(6) Allows to budget incurred costs because the machine internally counts the number of cups of coffee made. (Trust me, it''ll be less than what you would pay daily at the store.)

UPDATE (6/2009) the machine just brewed its 1,000th cup, so it''s definitely paying itself off, and tastes just as great as the first day.

Enjoy!

Mr. Coffee BVMC-SJX33GT 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker

Mr. Coffee BVMC-SJX33GT 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, ChromePurchased this coffee maker at local retailer after trying but returning a KitchenAid with thermal carafe. The Mr Coffee is 1/2 the price and twice the function. The optional thermal carafe can be substituted for the glass carafe and the machine automatically detects the carafe and adjusts by turning the hot plate on (glass) or off (thermal. Has all the functions of the best coffee makers. Makes great coffee at a temperature that is hot enough to make the coffee taste good without being so hot that it burns the coffee. I have had some issues with Mr Coffee designs in other older machines but this machine seems to be well designed. As an example, the water spout that delivers hot water to the coffee grounds is automatically placed over the coffee when the cover is closed. (You must move the spout to remove the coffee grounds basket and this feature ensures that it is always placed back at the proper location. The option of glass for 12 cups or thermal for 8 cups of coffee allows great flexibility. I highly recommend this coffee maker.

We recently purchased the Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programable Coffee Maker and have been extremely pleased with its performance so far. We were fed up with our last coffee maker because it failed to make anything hotter than luke warm coffee. We have had several Mr. Coffee coffee makers over the years, some produced great coffee, others were less impressive. After shopping at our local department store and scanning Amazon reviews we settled on this coffee maker. It has several nice features including a water filter, brew strength adjustments (regular or strong), delay brew, and an optional metal carafe (reduces the number of cups per brew to 8, but keeps the coffee hotter longer). Best of all it produces hot coffee, hotter than any other machine in its price range (that I have tried, and I have tried a lot). Overall it makes good coffee and is probably the highest quality coffee maker in its price range. If you are a true coffee aficionado then you will want to spring for a more upscale coffee maker (look at the Cuisinarts), but for the average coffee drinker this machine works great!

I don''t usually write reviews but this one deserves one. It is so easy to use and very versatile. You can use 12 cup glass carafe or 8 cup thermal carafe (purchased separately but cheap enough). Makes great coffee and with the 12 cup keeps it hot for 2 hours before shutting off automatically. All the features of the really expensive ones for less than half the price and does a great job. You can''t go wrong with this one. It should last a really long time and looks great on the counter.

Nothing worse than a good sounding review wasting your time by the "Cons" of the Product.

So out with it.

Cons: Only "One" noticeable thing, pouring coffee into cup, with pot lid down/closed causes dripping. Simply lift lid a little when pouring to solve. No Biggy...

Otherwise, I''m satisfied with it. I had very little to no noticeable problem with "Plastic" taste tainting the coffee even on the first brew.

Note: Mine did have a small "dent" in the chrome faceplate. Barely nothing to make a fuss about or drop the rating for. Hardly noticeable...

No Leaks from coffee maker itself!

Buttons work really well.

Lights are bright and colorful.

Coffee Pot fits in and pulls out of station with no troubles.

Handle and lid are good.

Controls are simple.

Water drip ARM automatically repositions when filling lid is closed.

Filling the water reservoir takes a little AIM and Precision, but nothing collegiate.

Uses standard small paper filters. I use a permanent filter myself.

Regular brew or strong brew with the push of a button.

Of course HOT coffee with automatic shutoff after 2 hours(beeps when it shuts off)

3 Beeps when coffee is ready I like that!

All around it''s a good coffee maker so far after like 8 uses. Simple effective coffee maker. Nothing to worry about or wonder about?

Does what it''s supposed to do. That is, brand new it does what it''s supposed to do. Nice and solid!

Our old reliable and inexpensive Mr. Coffee maker had served us well for almost 12 years, but finally the plastic started to show it''s age and could no longer resist the daily abuse. The result was the carafe handle and the one of the filter pegs recently breaking. The coffee maker still worked great but clearly it was time for a new one...

Let me preface this review by saying that I had two very important criteria when I was looking for a new coffeemaker:

1. Must have a thermal carafe. (wife wanted it)

2. Must use basket filters. (I still have several hundred of them, bought in bulk long ago, so I want to use them!)

Price was also a criteria, of course, but I was open to spending over $100 if necessary to get a good one. I have a soft spot for Mr. Coffee based on the long and reliable life of our old one, but I looked at all the brands with models matching the above two criteria.

Those two criteria really managed to limit the number of models I had to consider and I didn''t see any real outstanding reviews on any of them, even the ones priced over $100. Then I stumbled upon this little gem. The reviews were good, it uses basket filters, and provides the option of buying a thermal carafe. The price is so low that even with the extra bucks to buy the thermal carafe it was still cheaper than pretty much all of the other models I had looked at. Plus it is Mr. Coffee, which has served us so well for so many years. Sold.

So, with the story of how I came to purchase it out of the way I can get on to the heart of the review...

First off the coffee maker looks great; sleek and compact. It actually takes up less space than the old Mr. Coffee model that it replaced.

The instructions are very straightforward and it is very simple to operate. It doesn''t have a lot of fancy settings or other complications. It includes a water filter but since we already filter our water I opted not to use it. Before using you are advised to run it through a brew cycle with just water to get rid of any manufacturing residues. You can definitely pick up some chemical smells right out of the box so I opted to run a couple of brew cycles just to be safe. After two cycles it was ready to make coffee.

Making coffee is a snap. The filter basket lifts out easily you just rotate the spray arm out of the way and lift out. This makes it easy to add the ground coffee and to clean up afterwards. After you have the filter basket loaded up with ground coffee you just put it back in and rotate the spray arm back into place. You add the water into the reservoir through the same opening in the top and there is plenty of room to pour. The cup markings are on the right side of the machine and may be a little difficult to see in low light, but I haven''t had any trouble. If you measure your water before adding it then it won''t matter in any case. Once you have added the water you just press one button to start brewing. If you want to change the brew strength you press one more. The machine will beep when it is done. Easy.

The unit automatically senses whether you are using the glass or thermal carafe. The heating element turns on only for the glass carafe since the whole idea of the thermal carafe is to keep the coffee warm without continually heating it. We typically use the glass carafe when we are going to drink up the coffee quickly and the thermal when we have more time and want to drink coffee at our leisure. The thermal carafe easily keeps the coffee warm enough for us for a couple of hours. The instructions advise pre-heating the carafe with hot water to help maintain the temperature but we usually don''t bother.

This machine brews great tasting coffee quickly and easily. If that is what you want in a coffeemaker then I highly recommend it. If you want lots of fancy settings to fiddle around with then it isn''t for you. The clock on the machine is not illuminated so you can''t see it at night. If you really want/need an illuminated clock then you will want to find another model.

This coffeemaker suits our needs perfectly and the price can''t be beat. The optional thermal carafe is great for keeping coffee warm without cooking it perfect for extended coffee drinking sessions.

Glass Collector Container Bottle - Waterwise 4000 Distiller Save 17% Off

Glass Collector Container Bottle - Waterwise 4000 DistillerI purchased a waterwise 4000 when it was supplied with the plastic collector. Later I discovered that the

plastic collector had been replaced with one made of glass. I never really liked the plastic version

so I decided to purchase the glass for $60.00, which I thought was very expensive but I wanted the glass

so I bought it. What a waste of money! This is one of the most poorly designed products I have ever seen.

The handle being on the top makes no sense at all. When you pour the water out you have to grab the handle

and the bottom of the collector and pour slowly or the water will go in all directions due to the poorly

designed spout. The covers that go over the plastic lids spout and the collection hole do not fit properly.

Also, when you wash the container in the sink it is best to remove the handle or it''s in the way.

Waterwise has always had a good reputation for making quality products. I just don''t understand how they

could bring a product like this to market and charge $60.00 for it.

The glass container portion is marginal, it does what its supposed to do which is collecting the water from the distiller. However the lid or cover is badly designed engineered. It makes pouring the water clumsy and difficult. The spout on the glass container itself is also badly designed, which means that when you want to pour the water out into another glass contained, or a drinking glass the water stream coming out of the spout separates and causes spills on the table or counter. The most annoying item is the terribly designed plastic cover. Its difficult to take off and difficult to place under the distiller. The spout cover is the worst piece of designing I have ever seen, it barely stays on, it has no hinge, it falls off as its held by mere friction, which itself is ill fitting. I guess your consideration in buying this item is exactly proportional to how much you want to avoid HBP and other industrial chemicals leaching into your water when using a standard plastic collector.

  • Automatic electronic self calibration
  • Simulated analog bargraph displays change in ORP reading
  • Waterproof to IP57 protects meter from wet environment
  • Data hold, auto power off and low battery indication

I purchased the Extech re300 about 2 weeks ago and have used it about 15 times so far. I need to measure ORP value, and I wanted something decent for the price. I seen there was another model on amazon that had more reviews, but I have used an extech before and I was fairly happy.

So far it has functioned great. I have read that orp meters less than 300 bucks can lose calibration and the sensors go out... so we will see how long it holds up, however I am very satisfied so far.

Things to note:

When I did a search for a ph meter this one came up, however when I recieved it I noticed I had misread the description. It is JUSt an orp meter. So I am thinking of getting the PH Extech coming up soon, but there are so many mixed reviews on all makes and models. Right now I am using ph strips and they are fairly accurate, but will be looking to get a digital reading of ph.

The reason for the 4 stars is that the meter works great but did not blow my mind. Maybe after 6 months of working I will come back and adjust my review.

As for storage, I have just wetted the end like the directions said. There is an automatic calibration and so far it seems to be accurate.

I have not used storage solutions or anything... and I have checked a couple times to make sure it is still "in tune"... so maybe it does deserve a 5 star rating.

What else can I say.

BISSELL with Febreze Freshness Carpet Cleaning Powder Save 14% Off

BISSELL with Febreze Freshness Carpet Cleaning Powder, 18 ounces, 70Q2This was the only carpet powder I could find on my last trip to Wal-Mart, and I wasn''t expecting much. Our house is mostly tile, but we have a large living room rug that gets vacuumed daily because we have two dogs with some shedding. I noticed lately, while I was doing push ups on the rug, that it smelled of dog. That won''t do!

So first I cleaned the rug with our Bissell Spot Bot. I bought the pet cleaning product and saturated the rug with it, then sucked the liquid off. That made no difference. I sprayed it with Febreze which made it smell like coconuts and the faint suggestion of tropical dog.

Finally I tried this powder. The instructions say to work the powder in. I didn''t really have a tool to do that the first time, so I just walked all over it roughly. I waited 20 minutes. I vacuumed. Nothing.

The next time, I took my broom first thing in the morning and washed it. Once it tried a applied the powder and worked it in with the broom. I waited more like 45 minutes, mostly cause I was doing other things. When I vacuumed it up this time, the carpet smelled like NOTHING, neither coconuts, or fresh laundry, dog, or even wool. It was the absence of all smell. I thought it was actually brillant! So I went back, since we have guests coming, and spayed the coconut spray just for a touch.

Just to make sure it wasn''t a fluke, I tried to again today. Same smell of nothing! Great news, so I''m buying more.

A word of note: this 18oz can had cleaned my 5x7 rug 3 times, so I need about 6oz per clean. When I apply it I''m looking for the whole rug to be clouded in white. The bottle doesn''t mention the intended coverage use, but I would say that you need about 0.5oz per sq ft of carpet.

I''m not quite sure what to make of Bissell''s carpet cleaning powder. It does work, but required alot of work on my part to make that happen. I was pretty surprised to learn that you have to "scrub" the powder into the carpet. I have a high traffic area near my front door, so I tried out the powder there as I didn''t want to crawl around scrubbing my whole living room carpet and after much scrubbing in of the powder it did clean the "path" on the high traffic area I used it on, but it wasn''t worth the time and effort in my opinion. Much easier to use a carpet steam cleaner or even a spray foam carpet cleaner that lifts the dirt out without much if any effort by me. In fact, this powder seems like a step backward in carpet cleaning to me. In the end it did work, but there are easier and faster solutions out there. I wasn''t pleased with how it filled up my bagless vaccum either, it was more work to clean out the canister really well. I suppose if you have a small area to clean or, based on some other reviews, a problem with pets (which I don''t have) this powder might be a good choice, but for me, it was alot of work for very little reward.

Buy BISSELL with Febreze Freshness Carpet Cleaning Powder Now

I have some high traffic areas in my house that get dingy quick and vacuuming alone doesn''t do much. I usually have to get out the steam cleaner to make a difference which is a pain so I was very excited to try the carpet cleaning powder. I followed the directions exactly (which included getting a broom and "scrubbing" the powder into the carpet which I wasn''t thrilled with). When I vacuumed everything up, my carpet looked a little fluffier (probably from the broom "scrubbing"), but the dinginess was exactly the same. After about a day of walking on it again, you couldn''t tell I did a thing. I really had high hopes for this product, but it simply didn''t deliver any results for me.

The wetness you feel when walking on the powder was kind of weird. I followed the directions on the back of the container. I vacuumed first then used this product and vacuumed again to be sure it did what it says. When I dumped out the canister of dirt it seemed to have worked well. Yuck! I like the scent of the product and I will definitely be buying this in the future!

Want BISSELL with Febreze Freshness Carpet Cleaning Powder Discount?

I couldn''t tell a radical difference between this rug powder and others. You sprinkle a talcum looking substance all over the rug, then scrub it in with a brush -those brushes that come with stick carpet cleaners are great, you don''t have to get on your knees -and then you come back later and vacuum. I could tell just a very slight difference, and I didn''t get as much fresh smell in the room as I was hoping for. The difference was the rug under my bare feet didn''t feel quite as greasy and matted down, but that could have just been a result of the brushing!

Easy Load - Screw-OnIt works well, discharging some water when you invert the 5 gallon water bottle over the cooler. The ball cock is plastic and wants to float too soon after inversion. If it was stainless steel the cooler''s built in extender would lift the ball after inversion not allowing for any water discharge except into the cooler. There is a small amount of spillage compared to inverting without the Easy Load. Do not invert unless you are over the cooler because the ballcock will rise and allow water to discharge from the bottle. A 5 gallon bottle filled is close to 40 pounds. Not an easy task for most people to handle.

I was really skeptical, oh so skeptical, but thought I would give it a try. I bought two and was prepared to hate them both and was prepared to be angry at the shipping charges and at the length of time they were supposed to take to get shipped to my door. Oh my goodness! First of all, the shipping, which was supposed to take 2 weeks, only took a couple of days. Secondly, these Easy Load Screw on devices are so amazing. We were getting delivered Culligan water and it was costing us more than $60 per month with the rental unit and 7 bottles of water and then, of course, and on the deposit. So, when we bought our $125 dispenser and 6 water bottles, I figured all was good, until it came time to flip the bottles into the dispenser. I think I dumped a good gallon or so onto the floor before I got them situated in the dispenser. We have hardwood floors, so I had to move the dispenser out each time and mop the floor and then move it back again. I was about ready to go back to Culligan when I found these little gems! I must drop about 3 drops of water when taking the bottles on and off. They work perfectly with the 3 and 5 gallon bottles--we have both. My husband is disabled and cannot lift more than 10 pounds, so the hoisting is up to me. I am a small woman--5''3" and weigh about 128 pounds, but with these Easy Load caps, I can manage it all myself with little effort and NO MESS! Thank you so much for this product--I totally recommend it. Oh, and for those of you who purchased Whirlpool dispensers--the regular size works just fine! Best of all, it costs us just $1.85 to fill one 5 gallon bottle with clean, refreshing reverse osmosis water! oh yeah!

My center post was about 2.4 inches and once i put the bottle on, the entire bottle was resting on the cap/ball by a quarter inch (as a result, my cap bent and is useless). I would recommend anybody with a post larger than 2 inches just get the extended cap to prevent this type of issue.

I bought two just to have a spare. The only bad part was that amazon charged me for two shipping fee. Even though it came from same company. Other than that the product work perfect. I hope they fix this issue. I found this at one of my local water filling store . same price and if I bought it there I would have saved the shipping price even with tax added.

Want Easy Load - Screw-On Discount?

I recently purchase a water dispenser and was having trouble when it came time to change to the next 5 gallon jug. It is hard enough to flip those jugs over to begin with, but trying to do it quickly as to not spill a bunch of water was a pain. This cap minimizes the amount of spillage to just a few droplets. It has caused no other issues with dispensing or anything, I am happy with my purchase.

Cuisinart DCC-RWF Replacement Coffeemaker Water Filters

Cuisinart DCC-RWF-6PK Charcoal Water Filters, 2 Year Supply, 12 FiltersIf you own a Cuisinart DGB-600BC Grind and Brew, Brushed Chrome or the Cuisinart DGB-550BK Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, you will quickly realize the secret to the great coffee brewed is the water filter. Unfortunately, the local big box stores just don''t carry these necessary filters. Searching on-line, the best combination deal was found with these filters, i.e. quantity = 12 (two-years of usage if you change every two months) and price (this is the best price for the quantity/shipping that I found). Unlike other vendors, this one delivered as scheduled.

These built-in filters really do help keep the coffee tasting fresh and clean. We''d left the original filter in the machine for far too long, and the addition of a new, clean filter has made a huge difference I wouldn''t have believed it without experiencing the difference. The 2-year supply is a great deal, too.

These water filters for the Cuisinart DCC-1200 are worth the price. I didn''t change the original for awhile, but decided to do the maintenance and replace it. I made a big mistake by wasting so much time. After replacing these charcoal water filters (and buying them in volume) there was an immediate difference in taste. I live in NY where the water can be heavily chlorinated with a hint of sulfur. This product eliminates the chemical taste of tap water and let''s me enjoy the real taste of my coffee.

When comparitive shopping I come to Amazon.com quite a bit and buy through them very often.

Buying these filters in larger quantities does gives a better price per filter. Look above and you will see the "item" described as 20 lbs for shipping. These are EXTREMELY light.

The weight is inflated and charges more than actual for shipping. (Who knows if they meant to enter 2 lbs or 20 lbs?? Could be accidental or on purpose.) I''m in the process of ordering a set of 12 filters somewhere else for about $2 more, but shipping is about $14 less.

I got 12 filters stuffed in a shipping bag. These are obviously NOT genuine cuisinart filters. If you are ok with that so be it. I dont want to make coffee with unknown contaminants.

Bonavita BV1800 8-Cup Coffee Maker

Bonavita BV1800TH 8-Cup Coffee Maker with Thermal CarafeI''m really happy with this coffee maker, having chosen it over the Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Brewer With Thermo Carafe Technivorm 9587. It brews extremely quickly (about 7 minutes), and I measured the temperature of the water coming from the spout at about the 195F-200F range, so it''s in the right range for extracting optimum flavor -the brew from this machine is just at the point of being tip-of-the-tongue scalding. The water is dispensed at a number of different points into the filter, and looking at the grounds afterwards you can tell that the dispersion pattern works well, as the coffee grounds remain clumped at the bottom of the filter, rather than being thinly spread across the entire filter.

Note that this is a minimalistic coffee maker. It is fairly compact, has an unassuming appearance, and there are no glowing dials, no HUDs, no clocks. There''s one control: the on/off switch. It has no timer. It doesn''t have a brew stopper, so you have to let the coffee maker finish before you can pour yourself a cup (since the coffee maker brews so quickly, this isn''t too big of a deal). You cannot navigate your kitchen at night by the light from this coffeemaker, nor can you signal passing UFOs.

Nonetheless, it makes great coffee.

VIDEO REVIEW:

The video captures brewing the first pot of coffee with the Bonavita and (briefly) how to fold a filter. It demonstrates pouring.

WRITTEN REVIEW:

Today I received my Bonavita Thermal Coffee Maker and made my first brew with it.

First impressions: This is one fast and impressive little machine. No wonder it garnered the Specialty Coffee Association of America''s coveted Certified Brewer Equipment award: one of only four machines to do so as of this writing. This machine makes very hot coffee indeed: I measured the coffee in the preheated thermal carafe right after brewing at 188° F. With a non-preheated carafe the coffee was 183.2° F right after brewing completed.

Temperatures during brewing were at 195° F at 58 seconds into brewing and reached as high as 205.8° F briefly at the 4:04 minute mark and at 203.3° F at the end of the brewing cycle (see photos). Brewing time was 5 minutes 48 seconds, so just under six minutes.

A photo is attached of what you receive with this brewer, and the list, like the brewer, is very basic.

WHAT''S IN THE BOX:

* Bonavita BV1800 8-Cup Coffee Maker

* Bonavita Thermal Carafe

* Carafe Lid

* Filter Basket

* Bonavita "Brewing Perfect Coffee Everytime" Manual

* Small paper insert on how to clean the showerhead (the lid and showerhead are removable and can be cleaned in the dishwasher)

* "Bonavita Exceptional Brew" Manual

* Pink sheet of instructions for care of the thermal carafe, also known as the "Melitta insulation jug."

* Starter pack (4) of Melitta Super Premium Flavor Enhancing #4 Coffee Filters in Natural Brown

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

* Extra filters. A starter pack will get you going for the first few days.

* If you choose it, a gold tone filter, instead of paper filters. I purchased the Cuisinart GTF Gold Tone Filter, which fits inside the Filter Basket, in case you''d like to fit your Bonavita with a permanent filter. Be advised that gold tone filters do let in sediment (depending on how your coffee is ground), so if you use a gold tone filter, you may get sediment at the bottom of the pot. As a sidenote, so far, the Bonavita brew times have remained within the recommended SCAA guidelines when I tested it.

* ETA about the gold tone filter: Although I am a fan of gold tone filters, I have become a big fan of the Melitta filters since my Bonavita purchase as they have no paper taste. So I am sticking with paper Melitta filters for my Bonavita.

MY FIRST BREW:

The instructions are basic and easy to follow. Using the "Bonavita''s Exceptional Brew" manual, I measured 7 grams of coffee for every cup or a total of 56 grams of coffee to make 8 cups. (Bonavita recommends between 7 and 9 grams of coffee per 5 ounces of water. The Bonavita "cup" size is a 5-ounce cup.)

You can also measure your coffee to taste or use the scoop size you usually prefer if that is your preferred method. More detailed instructions are in the manual.

I put a paper filter in the filter basket, folding the crimped edges of the filter (per the instructions on the back of the filter package) -the filter fits perfectly this way. I put the coffee into the filter, then placed the filter basket on top of the thermal carafe. I placed the thermal carafe onto the coffee maker, put in 40 ounces of filtered water, then turned it on. Voila! It began to brew.

The brewing cycle is fast and efficient at just under 6 minutes. I was expecting the filter basket might be clumsy to remove: not the case. Having previously used Chemex, Krups, Braun and even Cuisinart (with all of their dreaded innards), the simplicity of removing just the filter basket and replacing it with the thermal carafe lid was marvelous. One complete turn and the carafe lid was in place.

MY FIRST POUR:

My first impressions of the coffee? Delicious and strong. Hot at 188° F. I went back to the carafe three hours after making the coffee and took off the lid. Still hot. You *will* get hot coffee from this machine: blissfully hot coffee.

HOW TO CLEAN THE CARAFE:

There are a few reviews about exploding carafes. I clean my carafe by only swishing warm water inside of it (see the pink sheet of instructions). I don''t put sponges, plastic dish scrubbers, or anything else inside the carafe. It''s been fine so far.

A NOTE ABOUT PLASTIC TASTE, OR RATHER, THE LACK THEREOF:

There is no plastic taste with this machine. If I put my sensitive nose into it, I smell no plastic smell. I don''t taste plastic in my coffee. Even with the first brew right out of the box. This is likely due to Bonavita''s use of BPA free plastic. Hallelujah!

PROS:

* Very hot coffee.

* Speedy brew cycle of 6 minutes: within SCAA guidelines

* 1400-watt heating element (aluminum)

* Auto off after 15 minutes

* Glass-lined carafe that keeps coffee hot for hours

* One-full-twist easy-on carafe lid

* Easy off filter basket makes clean-up easy

Note:

* I''m only mentioning this so people will be aware in case it happens to them. After brewing, when I lifted out the paper filter from the filter basket, there was a small amount of coffee that had not drained from the filter basket. Apparently this has to do with the position of the hole in the filter basket and is for better extraction. I removed the paper filter and simply tipped the filter basket with its coffee directly into the thermal carafe. The amount of coffee is so small it is insignificant. ETA: After doing this a few times, it depends on the amount of coffee or your grind. The water might drain into the carafe on its own.

WHO SHOULD GET IT:

* If you love coffee; and you just want a deliciously brewed, piping hot, delicious cup of coffee

* If you want a machine that produces fantastic coffee but without all the "bells and whistles" such as programmable features, brew and pause, etc.

* If you are looking for a truly great thermal carafe: one that keeps the coffee hot, pours easily, and has an easily removable and replaceable lid

* If you want a machine that is easy to clean

* If you want a machine that easily fits under cabinets: my kitchen cabinets are low at 17 3/4" and the Bonavita fits under them easily at 11 5/8" high.

Overall, I''m extremely satisfied with this machine.

Please see my photos and video for more details.

At the time I''m writing this review there were no reviews of this coffee maker and I almost overlooked it and ordered a different one. I would normally wait longer to post a review but this review may bring others attention to this machine. I have only used mine twice but I know from those two times this machine extracts more from the grinds than my Starbucks Barrista did because I can feel the effects of the caffeine after 3 cups (about 3/4 of the carafe) whereas I didn''t feel it at all from the Starbucks unit (also 8 cup capacity) after a whole pot. I don''t notice that the coffee is any hotter than it was from the Starbucks unit but it is piping hot. My Starbucks unit was 8 years old and had started to leak water on the counter during the brewing process and shut itself off before the reservoir was empty requiring multiple restarts. I am not trying to compare the Bonavita to the Starbucks because I did not descale the Starbucks unit anywhere near as frequently as I should have which may well have lead to the leaking problems. The Starbucks unit did brew a very good pot of coffee.

This machine is one of only four coffee makers certified by the Specialty Coffee Assoc. of America for home use. The certification is based on the machine''s ability to heat the water to 195-205 degrees which is the ideal temperature to extract maximum flavor from the grinds. Bonavita claims on their packaging this is the only coffee maker sold with a 1400 watt heating element. The other three certified machines are a Bunn HG Home Brewer (sold on Amazon) which is slightly less money but when I read the reviews is very unreliable, the Technivorm Moccamaster which is $300 (sold on Amazon) the reviews indicated quality control problems, and the Lance Larkin BE 112 Brew Express $300+ (not sold on Amazon) which requires a water line permanently installed and is designed to be built into cabinetry. Since I was not going to spend $300 the choice was between the Bonavita and the Bunn but I immediately excluded the Bunn because of the numerous recent reviews indicating it stopped working and had to be replaced sometimes more than once. Bunn is known for high quality machines but it is very apparent this is not one of them.

The Bonavita''s thermal carafe is manufactured by Melitta and has a glass liner. It can be purchased separately from Bonavita (perhaps Melitta too) and is so satisfactory to use I would recommend it even if you don''t purchase the Bonavita coffee maker. One of the things I noted repeatedly in many reviews of thermal carafe coffee makers (all the brands Amazon sells) was users having difficulty using the tops of their carafes and/or dripping when pouring a cup. This carafe has a very easy to use top that screws on and has a trigger for one handed usage. My Starbucks carafe always dripped and the center spring loaded button broke on two tops. I am thrilled that I don''t have to wipe the carafe and counter every time I pour a cup anymore.

Because of the caffeine effect from this machine''s brew the next pot I''m going to use 3 rather than the 4 coffee measure spoons I have always used to brew 8 cups and see how that tastes. The machine is very easy to use, I simply fill the carafe and pour into the non-detachable reservoir than the filter basket sits on top of the carafe (with the carafe''s top removed). After brewing which takes about 8 minutes you simply remove the filter basket and screw the top on. Again, because of the caffeine effect I have yet to finish a whole pot so I can''t say how long the carafe keeps the coffee very hot but it is still piping hot 2 hours after brewing. My guess is probably 4 hours, maybe 5 like my Starbucks thermal carafe. It uses #4 cone filters and Bonavita claims using the paper filters is preferable to the metal style filter because the paper filters absorb more coffee oils.

The machine appears to be well built and all but the bottom and recessed drip tray area are stainless steel. Two potential downsides of this machine are 1) you cannot pour a cup until the brewing cycle has completed (doesn''t bother me but may bother others) and 2) there is no timer function which for the cost of the machine I think there should be. It is not a feature I used very often on my Starbucks unit so I''m OK without a timer but others may want one.

The reason I rated the Bonavita 4 stars rather than 5 is because the machine is in such limited distribution the $149 price is in my view not a deal like almost every other coffee maker Amazon sells. There are however two ways to look at the price, I read an online review which favorably compared the Bonavita to the Technivorm unit which costs twice as much. Still, I think at some point this machine will have wider distribution and the price will come down. If you go to Bonavita''s website they list the resellers and everybody sells it for $149-$159. I think closer to $100-120 would be a good deal.

It does have a 2 year warranty and at this point given my limited usage of the machine I would say that I am very satisfied with it. It does brew an excellent pot of coffee, is easy to use and clean and I like its appearance. So if you want an excellent pot of coffee poured from a drip free carafe and can overlook the lack of a timer and the ability to pour a cup before the brewing cycle has completed and don''t mind the price this is a choice well worthy of consideration.

I was mostly satisfied with my Starbucks Barrista except for the carafe always dripping so thus far I like this machine better because the carafe doesn''t drip. Here''s a tip for Starbucks machine owners, call their customer service when yours stops working and complain that they have no support because they no longer sell coffee makers. When I did I was initially offered a $10 gift card but ended up with a $25 gift card.

On a side note, I was truly amazed by all the problems other owners reported with virtually every thermal carafe coffee maker Amazon sells. From machines that stopped working to those that spilled water/coffee all over the floor/counter to tops that leaked and/or were difficult to use. I probably spent a good 6-7 hours researching all the thermal carafe models filtered by highest reviews and had selected the Kitchen Aid 12 cup model but before I ordered it I quickly reviewed the models one more time and caught this one on the last of 7 pages of machines with no reviews. I''m glad I did. I hope my review will cause others to consider this machine.

If I encounter any issues with this machine I will update this review.

Making good coffee is actually quite simple:

1. Buy freshly roasted beans.

2. Grind the beans immediately before brewing.

3. Brew with 195 to 205 degree water.

The brewer can only help you with #3, and although there are various manual methods you can use, there are only two drip machines that are rated to consistently deliver the water at the right temperature: the Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Brewer with Thermo Carafe and the Bonavita. I''ve been using the Bonavita for a month now, and I''m a very happy camper.

PROS

* The Bonavita heats the water quickly and brews at the temperature they claim. I measured the temp myself and it was right at 200 degrees.

* It makes a full pot (40 ounces) in 5-1/2 to 6 minutes. That''s how long it takes to extract all the flavor from the grinds, so you don''t want a brewer that works any faster. Of course, the coarseness of your grind affects the time. Too coarse and the water flows through too fast; too fine, and it bogs down and over extracts.

* It brews smaller amounts well, too. Just for myself, I make 3 cups (15 ounces) at a time. It takes two or three minutes and tastes just as good as a full pot.

* The showerhead design distributes the water evenly so all the grinds get to participate.

* The design is simple and attractive with a small footprint.

* I''m delighted with the lack of useless bells and whistles. The Bonavita''s only "feature" is that it shuts off automatically. I''m a believer in unplugging small appliances when they aren''t in use (let me tell you about my toaster oven experience sometime... ) but the auto shut-off is a nice safety feature in case I forget.

* The thermal carafe has a well-designed lid that screws on and keeps it sealed, so it should keep the coffee hot as long as coffee could be expected to stay hot in any thermos. I don''t really keep coffee sitting around, so I have no comparison for that.

CONS

* The only real "con" is the price. I don''t see why such a simple appliance has to cost $150, but since the only competition costs twice that much, the Bonavita is the best buy.

* This is really more of an FYI than a con. A lot of steam comes out of the top so you probably don''t want to leave it directly under the upper cabinet while brewing. Just pull it forward.

UPDATE

Please don''t let my comment about the steam discourage you from trying this great brewer. Obviously, any brewer that heats the water adequately is going to put out some steam. Just to be clear, the steam vents are the dot pattern you can see in the picture, on top above the basket, so the Bonavita design nicely directs the steam in one small area.

Keep in mind that you have to pull this or probably any brewer out from under the cabinet in order to fill the water tank anyway, so it''s easy enough to just leave it pulled out while you brew.

Want Bonavita BV1800 8-Cup Coffee Maker Discount?

I''ve been living with my BonaVita (BV) for a few weeks, now, and I can say without reservation that it brews coffee that is the equal of my TechniVorm (TV).

My initial interest in the BV was to check how well the TV was performing after 16 months of continual use, so one of the first things I did was to brew a pot of coffee in each of the machines simultaneously. Then I had my wife serve me samples of each so that I would not know which cup was from which brewer. The brews would have been completely imperceptible had it not been for a very subtle difference in temperatures, with the BV being perhaps as much as 5ยบ F hotter although I did not measure this. I also noted that the TV was just about 30 seconds faster at brewing 1 liter of water, and that the slightly larger hole in the filter holder allowed the coffee to drip into the pot a little quicker. As a whole, the BV is a more conventional looking coffee maker that, at less than half the price of the TV, appears to be just as well made. Only time will tell if it is as durable. I do prefer the TV for the platform on which the filter holder sits. The BV is designed so that the filter holder rests atop the pot, and must be removed in order to pour your coffee. That is a lot simpler, albeit a bit clumsy. Neither the BV nor the TV can make huge amounts of coffee at a time, but if 1.25 liters -about 43 ounces -will suit your needs, you''re good to go.

Given all of the positives, I''d recommend the BonaVita to anyone thinking about the purchase of a high-quality coffee maker; it''s SCAA-certified too.
