I replaced my kitchen faucet with Moen Torrance 87484 One-Handle Low Arc Kitchen Faucet Chrome and so had to replace my PUR kitchen faucet filter too PUR 3-Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount Chrome FM-9400B because I didn''t have a good washer to fit this Moen! I was happy with PUR for about 2 years now, but it is due for replacement anyway as the chrome surface is slowly getting peeled and spotted.
So I decided to replace PUR with this one (based on reviews on other/older models of Culligan). Overall, I am happy with this change...
PROS:
1. Water taste is comparable to PUR (I don''t see any difference). (Don''t know if it really filters :) I have to trust Culligan''s claims just as I trusted PUR''s claims :))
2. This one is supposed to last 200 Gallons compared to 100 Gallons of PUR filter.
3. Easy to install (easy to replace filter too without taking the filter mount from the faucet!)
4. Reasonably priced, looks great, smaller size than most faucet mount filters in the market.
5. The mount/washers/fittings on the faucet are all metal not plastic like the others. I like this. (filter housing is chrome-look-plastic)
Cons:
1. After a couple of days of use, if you move the filter housing around as you use the faucet, it tends to loosen from the faucet a little bit and so it can start leaking; have to tighten again. (May be because I only tightened it with hand, but definitely securely). When correctly tightened, it doesn''t leak. So this is not a major issue to complain about.
2. Availability of filters etc are limited (online). I didn''t see clearly marked filters in nearby Lowe''s.
3. Another small nitpick: recycling the filters. Only Brita currently has recycling of filters nation wide. Both PUR and Culligan don''t have this. But one filter replacing 100''s plastic bottles is much better in any case.
4. Slows down the water flow a little bit (in pass through mode, when the filter is not used)
Update 5/22/2012:
The water shutoff valve stopped closing by itself in just 5 months; now after taking filtered water I have to shut off the faucet and the bypass valve of this filter; not good for a product that is sold for 25+ bucks; reducing the rating to 3 average

This is essentially the same product as the FM-15 except it is in shiny chrome plastic rather then white plastic. If you care how your faucet looks, the extra dollars are worth it. There have been many reviews of the FM-15 and the ones that state it as 4-5 stars are accurate. The one item that kept this from being a five star review, is that unlike the Pur filter, the unfiltered water does not come with a swivel aerator. it''s an easy fix, but add $5-6 for separate swivel that will give you increased reach on your sink...it''s worth adding one to your cart if you purchase this.Want Culligan FM-25 Faucet Mount Filter Discount?
Very simple & effective unit. Does not have any kind of built in indicator saying its ''full''. The unit (& replacement filters) come with a sticker you put on any old calendar. I view this as a good thing, the ''PUR'' indicator seemed to make the unit cost more, and never seemed to work right. I do think the water pressure is better from the ''Culligan'' as well. And am happy ''Culligan'' has finally put out a chrome finished model. Finally, if you live somewhere with hard waterwe live in Las Vegasperhaps the worst hard water in the U.S.! Don''t ignore your filter change date, wait too long and you''ll never be able to unscrew the filter for replacement. Also, the filter is backed up with minerals & worse, so you''re drinking some nasty H2O...!PS: The FM-15 (white) replacement filters are cheaper, and they fit the FM-25 unit perfectly.

I bought the Culligan faucet-mount filter about two months ago and had no doubt I was going to have a better quality water from the tap. Few days ago I bought a TDS meter (a tool measuring the level of contamination in tap water). I was shocked to find after testing the filtered water that the Culligan filter didn''t filter the tap water at all!! The meter showed exactly the same amount of contamination in both the tap water and the water coming out from the filter. I understand the Culligan filter wouldn''t give 100% purification but I was hoping it could reduce water contaminants somewhat. Very disappointed in the product!

This is a great coffee maker especially for someone like me who wants to make only 1 mug at a time. I''ve tried all different kinds of coffee makers, but they don''t seem to be optimized for making a single ~8 oz mug of coffee. I always ended up brewing multiple cups of coffee and throwing the extra away to get the one good cup I wanted.I got this aeropress for Christmas 2006 and it is great. I followed the initial instructions, but preferred my coffee a bit different. So, I experimented with grind, water temperature, amount of coffee/water, etc., until I found the right combination for *my* personal preference. I use this to make a cup of coffee, not espresso (that is, I add water to the result to get "regular" coffee), so I can''t comment on the quality of espresso taste. I have noticed that coffee beans/grind from different sources have their own "sweet spots" for best grind and coffee/water quantity to get the taste I prefer. So, now that I know how I like to brew a couple different types, I try to stick with those so that I don''t have to go through the experimenting stage needed if I try a completely new coffee bean/grind. That works for me. This coffee tastes great. :)
Oh, I should mention that I have also used french press coffee makers. I really like the taste of french press coffee, but got sick of the grinds and/or sediment that always ends up in the bottom of the coffee and made the bottom of the cup taste gross. True to its advertising, the aeropress doesn''t seem to leave grinds or sediment. I sip my cup kind of slowly and end up zapping it in the microwave to heat it up again several times. The coffee does not get bitter from sitting in my mug because there is not coffee grind sediment soaking at the bottom. That is a huge plus for me!
A few folks mentioned that the plunger can be hard to press. I have to agree. I''ve had 2 shoulder surgeries and it does take some extra effort to manage to push the plunger straight down. I can still do it, although I only have 2 scoops of coffee grind in at a time. I think it would be extremely difficult to press with too much coffee in it.
All this time of daily use, including travel, and there are no problems, no parts wearing out from stress, no cracks in the plastic. It still looks like new.
I donated my drip coffee machine, french press and espresso machine to Goodwill. :)
PS I noticed the aeropress is available via third party vendor and Amazon. I can''t comment on the vendor, as I put it on my wishlist for Xmas and got it as a gift. I noticed there are separate reviews for each device/vendor, so will post my review under each.
I bought this because I was tired of the coffee at the office giving me heartburn and generally making me want to immolate myself every time I drank another cup.
There are some things about the AeroPress that blow my mind.
1) The coffee is outstanding; better than MoreBucks and definitely a lot more affordable and convenient.
2) Cleanup is very easy
3) You feel like a cubicle alchemist which is always a good thing.
4) You can customize you level of flavor/density very easily.
The process for me is pretty cool. Check it out.
(I bring in espresso ground coffee from home but you can use regular grind if you like a lighter brew)
1) Fill my cup with hot water from the filter (or whatever; can''t say I recommend regular tap water as you want it about 170 degrees)
2) Put a filter on the endcap and add a scoop of coffee
3) Put the AeroPress on my second cup (or I suppose if you like you could bring the whole contraption over to your water source and skip the 1st step)
4) Pour water in and mix; some coffee will begin draining right away depending on how fine a grind you''re using.
5) Attach the press and press down slowly
6) Over a trashcan remove the endcap and press out the ''puck''
Enjoy the coffee. If it''s too strong, add more hot water for "Americana Style". No cleanup is really needed. No kidding. Just pure, concentrated awesome.
It''s better coffee than a French Press and way, way, WAY easier to clean.

Ok...I read all the reviews and was expecting a good cup of coffee. But, this thing makes a GREAT cup of coffee! Smooth, rich and not a trace of bitterness.As a long time Keurig user, I was very used to having a decent cup of coffee in under a minute (if it was always left turned on and filled with water). The Aero Press does takes longer, having to use the microwave to heat the water.
Then, I purchased an electric kettle to make the process easier. Oh man, what difference! I can make a double espresso in under 2 minutes, which includes heating the water (that kettle is FAST), assembling the Aero Press and pressing the coffee through! If I want a regular cup of coffee, I just add more boiling water to the espresso (which is great as it gets nice and hot now).
My expensive Keurig brewer has now been decommissioned.
My suggestion: Buy the Aero Press, and get a cheap electric kettle to save some time.

I started home roasting coffee about a year ago and was looking for a way to make coffee when I''m away from the house. There are several things that make a good cup of coffee: good beans, a good even grind, proper extraction time, and proper water temperature. What''s nice about the Aeropress is that you can control all of these to produce an excellent cup. All of these factors contribute to the final cup of coffee. This product won''t make bad coffee taste good, but it will help you make the most of what you have.The included directions instruct you to use water that is a bit colder than a typical coffee infusion at 170F. Traditional pour-over methods usually are around 200F. I''ve tried both temperatures and find it easier to use at 200F because water comes to a boil at around 203F where I live and I don''t have to wait for it to cool. There are plenty of web tutorials with pictures and video of how to use this product.
Despite the product description, it does not make a true espresso as other reviews have mentioned. It does make a concentrated dose of coffee and you can add water to make it closer to what typical drip coffee produces. In terms of taste, I find that usually a trace amount of sediment gets through usually, but not nearly as much as done with a French press. The paper filter sits at the bottom and I find that rinsing it before adding the grounds helps reduce paper taste and reduces the amount of grounds that gets through. It looks a bit like lab equipment, but does a great job at what it does. It is made with a thick plastic and is not not flimsy. Mine came with a nylon tote bag which I thought was neat, but it is in my opinion too large.
I am a grad student and this makes it easy to make a cup of coffee while out studying. It is easy to clean and is small and light enough to throw in my backpack for when I want coffee and don''t want to pay several dollars at a coffee shop. I wouldn''t recommend the Aeropress for serving a large group of people as it only makes at most 16-24oz of coffee at a time depending on how much water you add to it. It is good for single serving use and is very convenient. I also find that since it makes a concentrated coffee, it is great for making iced coffee at home. It should be noted that this uses a non-traditional paper filter size and may be difficult to find in a traditional brick and mortar store. I''ve heard some people just cut them out themselves from larger filters. I''m a bit lazy and just ordered extras. Hope this helps.

Attaching this to our shower was easy just a little plumber''s tape gave it a snug, water-tight fit.
Conceptually at first, it was hard to figure out how to use the thing. Was it on a timer? Could we adjust the threshold for what it thinks is ''hot?'' The answer to both of these questions is no. If you just turn your shower to ''warm'' the Evolve Showerhead Adapter won''t shut the flow off. Its threshold for what it considers ''hot'' might be warmer than you expect. It''s not set to wait for the water to be scaldingly hot by any means, but the first time I tested it after I installed it, I thought it was broken when actually I just hadn''t given it enough hot water.
When it hits the threshold for heat, it cuts the flow of the shower back to a trickle. It''s very clear even if you''re not looking at it that it''s done so, because the sound of the water flow clearly changes. Remember, it doesn''t stop the water, it just slows it way down. Once you''re in the shower, just pull the attached cord and water flow resumes to normal. Pretty simple.
I found one quirk: our shower has 2 showerheads (fed from 1 common control panel), and we attached this adapter to only one of them. Sometimes the Evolve Showerhead Adapter gets confused if the water pressure changes drastically like if we turn the 2nd showerhead on. When that happens, sometimes the adapter cuts off the water as if it just tripped its heat threshold, but pulling the cord won''t restore the flow. The only fix is to turn the water to that showerhead off and then back on. Not a big deal, but it happens. I''ve never had the adapter cut off the flow for no good reason however. Now that we''re used to the quirks of the adapter, it''s part of our routine.
Ultimately, you have to wonder, how long does it take to pay for itself? I really have no idea. I don''t feel like this adapter has revolutionized our water bill. I have to imagine that, long term, it''s worth it, but I didn''t see any noticeable reduction in my water or gas bill the month after the adapter was installed. But if you''re going to buy this, it''s probably not the only thing you''re doing to reduce your impact on the environment, right? Hopefully this is just one of many things you do, and I do believe that it helps.
I recommend that people buy this for any shower they use on a daily basis but I don''t think it would be worth it to install one on every showerhead in your house (if you have more than one, of course) if they''re not all regularly used.
Final notes: it''s nicely manufactured. We got the chrome adapter and it''s a nice, simple, smooth, industrial piece of metal that feels solid. I have no fear that it''s about to break or spring a leak. When you install it, it adds an inch or two to the length of the feeder pipe, so depending on the angle of the pipe that feeds your showerhead, expect that your showerhead will extend a little lower or higher or further than before (which may be a good or bad thing depending on your situation). Finally, if you have guests use your shower, don''t forget to tell them how it works!

This think does what it is supposed to do. You don''t have to stand naked testing the water every few seconds to determine if it is warm enough to get in. Just turn the water on and walk away. When the water reaches 95 degrees, it reduces the flow to a trickle. I can hear the water stop flowing in another room. Then I pull the cord and the water flows just like normal. You will save a lot of water and the money it takes to heat it without any effort. These things should be required by law. I was initially disappointed that the Evolve shower-head adapter did not fit into my WaterPic massage shower head. I was expecting a battle with Evolve based upon my only too frequent experience with other companies. Instead, I was delighted to receive a prompt response from an Evolve employee who provided me with a quick and easy solution (i.e. remove the filter in the WaterPic shower head...Evolve has its own). The product works as intended shutting off the stream of water once the water temperature gets hot. When you are ready to get into the shower, you simply pull the cord to restore water flow. It takes quite a while for hot water to reach my upstairs shower. Before installing the Evolve Showerhead adapter, I wasted water and gas (heating water). Con: 1) the teflon tape that comes with the fitting is way below par. Use your own hw store brand. 2) Male threads need a large amount of teflon tape to be snug. But after 1 day, she is a believer. You can turn it on and do something else for a few minutes not worrying about losing hot water. Our water heater is on the other side of the house and it takes a long time for the hot water to reach the shower on the second floor. The Hoover Enhanced Clean Disinfecting Steam Mop works on glazed ceramic tile, sealed hardwood and linoleum flooring. It also "freshens" carpeting, although I''m am unaware of the benefit of steaming carpeting between cleanings, but I guess it would freshen it. Included is a carpet slider to facilitate this action. Reading the instructions is a necessity particularly whenever mixing liquids and electricity. The Owner''s manual is written clearly and is fourteen pages long, including the warranty page.The flooring needs to be well swept and all "gross filth", their words, not mine, must be removed. Sweeping is essential because the small steam vents on the head may become clogged which will affect performance and life expectancy of the unit.
The steam mop is lightweight, which is a clear advantage over larger units. It is neatly positioned between a nearly disposable Swifter cleaner and a heavier full size steam cleaner. I tested the unit out on four rooms of glazed ceramic tile approximately 450 square feet. I vacuumed the tile before beginning and some of the areas, primarily the two entrances into the house, had more ground-in dirt than others.
Assembly involved no more than snapping the handle into the base. The unit has two tanks the solutions tank holds approximately eight ounces of either Hoover''s disinfectant or multi-floor cleaning solution while the water tank holds sixteen ounces. There is a replaceable filter for the water side of the device (should last twelve months) but the instructions recommend using distilled water to avoid hard water build-up and to extend the filter life. At the time of this review the unit is new to the market and I couldn''t find pricing on the website for the replacement filter.
The included eight ounce bottle of Disinfectant solution filled the solutions tank and in cleaning the four rooms, I used virtually the entire bottle. The water tank required one extra filling to do all four rooms -a pleasant surprise considering the small size of the tank.
Two hard surface microfiber pads are included along with one with cut-outs to be used when disinfecting. Select the appropriate pad, lay it on the floor and place the unit on top of it, and a hook and loop (Velcro) system securely attaches the pad. While in use, I tried everything to accidentally disengage the pad and failed.
After use, the microfiber pads may be thrown in the washer. It is recommended they be washed in hot water and dried flat. The idea of throwing the pad in the washer didn''t appeal to me because at that point it was quite dirty and I couldn''t figure out what I would want to wash with it and it is entirely too small to justify running an entire washer load alone. So, I thoroughly washed it in the kitchen sink with the hottest possible water and detergent (then I disinfected the sink.) I plan to order a couple extra pads. They are on the website for around twenty dollars.
The steam cleaning process is usually step one and begins almost instantly (within thirty seconds) of pressing the power button. Squeeze the trigger on the handle and steam is released. When finished steam cleaning, and disinfecting is desired, switch the dial on the front from the middle position to high which engages the solutions tank. The time involved in the steam cleaning process will vary based on the condition of the floors.
While cleaning, I found the more heavily soiled areas of the tile required going over them up to six times to completely remove all ground in dirt, but the remainder of the floor was done with one or two passes. The power cord is long, approximately 28 feet, so there was no need to repeatedly plug and unplug the cleaner within a large area.
The disinfecting step is optional, and if chosen, is the final action just a couple of quick passes and then the floor needs to air dry to activate the disinfectant. If a moment is needed to stop while cleaning, the unit should not sit, unmoving, on the floor or damage may occur. A tray is included so the unit may rest off the floor.
The disinfectant is a food grade cleaner but in addition to its steep price, it contains so many chemicals that in the future, I will use it only occasionally. My main interest in the unit is its steam cleaning capability, so that will be my primary use.
On the Hoover website, a thirty-two ounce bottle of disinfectant solution (four fills) is around fifteen dollars and a sixty-four ounce bottle of the multi-floor cleaner(eight fills) is around twenty dollars. The two different cleaning solutions should not be mixed together, and other cleaners are not to be used.
Under Storage in the owner''s manual, when finished cleaning, the water tank should always be emptied and air dried. The solutions tank does not need to be emptied, but there was so little disinfectant remaining, I emptied and rinsed it. In the past, I had problems with a small carpet cleaning device that also noted that the cleaning solution could be left in the unit, so I probably will never leave any liquid in either tank.
While using the unit, the lack of weight permitted quick and easy movement and I could work for an extended amount of time without the least bit of fatigue. I finished cleaning all four areas in about thirty minutes and that was stopping once to refill the water container with the included measuring cup.
The lightweight construction does leave the machine feeling a little flimsy, but I don''t know how that can be remedied given the significant advantage of its portability. The triangular shaped head is mounted on a ball joint which permits great flexibility in movement, so the unit worked perfectly on the floors in each room with the point getting into every corner and the flat edges following the baseboards.
The steam mop did a beautiful job on my tile floors they look spotless and the effort involved was minimal. Overall I am delighted with the machine, but there are a couple of minor complaints. It isn''t convenient to move the tray from room to room. It is a necessity because it isn''t easy to predict when the work may need to stop for a minute or two so the tray should always be handy.
Also, the water and solutions tanks have lots of nooks and crannies, and are designed in a way that doesn''t permit them to readily dry. The fill opening is small so after rinsing, air doesn''t easily circulate within the tanks. After a full day of drying, and a few attempts to shake out any remaining drops of water, both tanks still contain a small amount of water. Although this isn''t a fatal design flaw, avoiding mold formation is always a concern with units like this.
Hoover provides a limited two year warranty on this machine, which given the proliferation of ninety day warranties, is reassuring. The positives far outweigh the negatives and I am delighted with the unit''s performance. As I continue to use the unit, I will update this review.

I''ve had this steam mop for over a month now and I''m very pleased to say that it does *almost* everything the advertising says and even a bit more. I can also report that Hoover fully stands behind their warranty.The warranty: when I received my first unit, it worked for five minutes and then died. The steam light came on, but no steam came out. I ran through the troubleshooting guide, cleared all the tubes, and it still wouldn''t work. I called the 800 number on the instructions and explained the problem. 24 hours later, I had a new mop delivered to my front door along with some extra cleaning pads and solution for my trouble (at no point during my conversation with Hoover had I ever asked for any free gift or compensation beyond sending a replacement unit). Hoover did ask that I send the unit back to the factory directly (they provided the free mailing label from FEDEX, including free pickup at my home) so that their engineers could look at it -this appliance is so new that they hadn''t had any returns yet. I can''t fault Hoover over this incident -any appliance line has an occasional defect, it''s the reaction from the company that will get my goat. In this case, Hoover bent over backward to make this right for me and I don''t think they had any way of knowing that this was a Vine customer.
The cleaning environment: an 1880''s farmhouse on a still-working farm. We raise livestock and have two dogs that are permitted inside. Dirt and "other" material from the barn and pastures gets tracked into the mud room where we change out boots and work clothes. The dogs roam the acreage and the return to the house for feeding and sleeping; fortunately, they are finally fully housebroken and it''s safe to leave the bedroom door open. Harvest season brings an extra layer of dust into the house. Get the picture? It''s a constant battle to keep floors clean. I''ve swept, Swiffered, mopped, and Roomba''d my way across these floors for five years now and I''ve hated every minute of it. June Cleaver I am not.
Results on linoleum: I used this mop on my kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, and mud room floors. The age of the flooring ranges from new to 15 years old. The first cleaning raised ground in grime from the old flooring. There is a small cut on the kitchen floor that gathers dirt; the steam mop lifted the grime and turned the cut nearly invisible. Another effect that I noticed is that the kitchen floor stays clean for a noticeably longer period of time afterward. Dirt tends to quickly show up where previous dirt remains (it''s stickier) and a mop sometimes has more the effect of moving dirt around rather than picking it up. The steam/microfiber combination really does a better job of removing grime altogether. Lastly, the pads stick out a bit from the mop head so I can push the pad right up against the baseboards and clean along the edges. Total mopping time is one-third of the time traditional mop/brush/bucket method.
Results on carpet: **Note: the following is NOT a Hoover-recommended use for the mop, this is something I came up with on my own. Your mileage may vary.** I had some very stubborn pet stains on our older carpeting (it''s at least 10 years old). Even after trying a variety of cleaning solutions and steam cleaning, the stains would reappear and collect more dirt. After seeing how the mop worked on the linoleum, I decided to see if this mop would work as an alternative to a steam cleaner. Using the carpet glide triangle and a full pad (Hoover recommends the one with holes in it for "freshening" carpets, but that was not what I was trying to do), I ran the mop over the stains several times with the steam on. Next, I applied Hot Shot carpet cleaner, allowed the solution to work for 30 seconds or so, and then ran the mop over it again. Voila! The steam provided just enough, but not too much, moisture, and the microfiber pad picked up the stain. Two weeks later, the stains have not reappeared. Best of all, I didn''t have to get on my hands and knees and stick my face in the fumes while I scrubbed away.
Results on hardwood/laminated flooring: Didn''t try it. Our hardwood is old and the finish is worn in places. We do have some laminated flooring, but I''m very leery of applying high-heat moisture to these floors. The consequences of any damage to those floors is too great to risk. I''ll watch the other reviews here and then maybe give it a try.
The cleaning pads: The unit comes with two regular pads and a single fenestrated (i.e., has holes in it) pad. This allows me to use one pad to clean the kitchen and mud room, switch out to the second pad for the laundry/bath, and then use the fenestrated pad to disinfect the kitchen and bath. Switching the pads out is as simple as stepping on the tab of the pad, lifting the unit off of it, and placing it down on top of the other pad. Then I pick up the pad and toss it in the laundry. This is soooooo much better than wrestling with an increasingly filthy mop head. One note for those who have never used a microfiber pad before: wash them before the first time you use them order to relax the fibers a bit -otherwise, the pads won''t pick up dirt quite as well.
Cleaning solution: Yes, it''s expensive; however, you aren''t going to be using nearly as much of it as the cleaning fluid in your mopping bucket. The solution isn''t a soap, it''s a disinfectant, so I clean first with just steam and then make a second, faster pass with the fenestrated pad to apply disinfectant. After using this mop for six weeks, I have yet to have to add cleaning solution to the tank. A little goes a very, very long way.
Bottom line: this is a great product that truly is an improvement over a bucket and mop and even scrubbing on your hands and knees.

Alright, so this is a great steam mop. I have been through a couple. I had the H2O mop which like most As Seen on TV stuff was great when I first got it but because they make them so cheap it broke and it is like pulling teeth dealing with Thane''s Customer support so I just said F it. The second one I had was a HANN and right out of the box it sucked at producing steam. Then I got this one and I loved how it produced steam however one downside to this mop is that you have to hold the trigger... Not to worry I just just a piece of tape and wrapped it around so it would hold the trigger down. So this is a great buy. But.... Have you had this for a couple months and all of the sudden it is not producing steam like it used to or at all???? Not to worry. Follow these steps and you will keep this crack-a-lackin for a while.So to prevent the mop from getting clogged up in the first place the best thing you can do is when you are done mopping leave your finger on the trigger. Then remove both solution and water tank until it stops producing steam. Now you can shut it off and stow it away.
Too late??? Did it already clog up? Well go ahead and plug it in with both water and solution in it, press the trigger until it starts producing steam. While leaving your finger on the trigger remove both tanks until it stops producing steam just like I said above and then unplug it. Take it somewhere... Preferably garage and flip it upside down. Take some white vinegar and pour the vinegar in the wholes where the steam is supposed to come out. Leave the vinegar in the holes over night. Then in the morning take the mop, put it into a sink or bath tub, fill up your solution and water tanks then put them in. Plug in the mop, wait for the lights that say you are ready to go, then press the trigger. See all that crap that came outa there???? You should be seeing a lot of steam. Again take both tanks out while leaving your finger on the trigger until it stops producing steam and then stow it away.

If I could have waited for delivery, I''d have purchased this from Amazon. I don''t know a coffee drinker who will even wait for a day, much less up to two weeks for a coffee maker. That said, this would make a great gift for any occasion.I''ve only had this coffee maker for two weeks but that''s time enough to discover quirks that might make it unappealing to others.
The coffee maker I replaced was the Mr. Coffee, IS series. It was great while it lasted, but it only lasted four years. I expect more for my money than that.
To comapare the two above mentioned models, both brew great coffee, and the B&D CM5050 brews 12 cups in ten minutes, where Mr. Coffee took twelve. That''s a plus if you don''t use the auto brew.
The B&D has a big digital clock; the Mr. Coffee had a hard-to-read analog.
B&D allows you to set your brew strength, but if you like "strong", it defaults back to "regular" at the end of the brewing cycle, so it must be reset with each new brew. Mr. Coffee saved the option; I liked that.
Mr. Coffee allowed a temperature control for the hot plate (a plus in my book), B&D doesn''t, and the coffee is scalding when you pour it. Mr. Coffee also has a special cleaning cycle, this B&D doesn''t.
The permanent coffee filter in the B&D is a great addition. I hesitated using it because of my poor experience with permanent filters. If you''ve rejected the use of these permanent filters because of a fine silt that settles in the bottom of the carafe, this permanent filter allows none of that. Use it; it will save money on paper filters.
I haven''t used the 1 4 cup brewing feature. I brew a full pot in the morning, and never drink coffee for the remainder of the day.
My main complaint with B&D is the preset warmer plate, but all other aspects are either equal or superior to the Mr. Coffee. So, it''s a matter of personal choice. I would have been happy to buy another Mr. Coffee, but I really expected a longer lifespan.
When I went "pot shoping", the B&D won because it was $10 cheaper, and I was already disappointed with the premature death of my Mr. Coffee. If this brewer dies at four years, I''ll look for a new model. So far, I''m pleased with what my money bought.

I''ll start by saying the coffee tastes great. However, I can get great coffee from other machines. The problems start immediately. Filling the water reservoir is awkward at best and I end up dripping water on the floor, in the filter basket and onto the hot plate where the carafe sits. Was any usability testing ever done on this product? It''s almost impossible to pour the coffee without it coming out and spilling all over the counter. The inside of the pot is designed so you can''t pour ALL of the water inside of the pot into the reservoir -the water gets caught in the inside curve of the glass. Then, trying to get the pot into a position to pour the water is really awkward. These issues far outway enjoying the coffee.
