BISSELL Little Green Multi-Purpose Compact Deep Cleaner Save 11% Off

BISSELL Little Green Multi-Purpose Compact Deep Cleaner, 1400-7My husband, albiet not from here, picked up this little gem after calling him and relaying that our son dumped the entire contents of a chocolate syrup bottle on his bedroom carpet. Home he came with this bissell. Only one they had at the store.

Assembly in two seconds, I kid you not. Didn''t even need to look at the instructions. put in the cleaning solution, filled reservoir with water, set it down, plugged it in. Now, mind you, it took me about ten minutes, with a few minutes between each go, this syrup was well and good in the carpet, but I am deeply impressed. Throughly impressed. It''s very light, even filled, it''s compact, fits real nicely into our cleaning closet, and super easy to use. For the price we paid, it''s paid for itself halfway with just the one room, compared to getting our carpets steam cleaned every few months. I would happily buy again.

Let''s hope the Little Green is a precursor to greater models. I have owned a larger model Bissell for nearly 2 decades and am fully aware of its reputation for getting things clean. I decided I wanted a smaller, more portable model for my car, the stairs, furniture, and small stains due to people and pets. This way I would only have to lug out the larger model for the large jobs like the carpeting, which is truly a once in a blue moon event. With a little vigorous scrubbing and chemical solutions, virtually any stain is a thing of the past, however I have come to realize certain design characteristics could be better.

When I clean the stairs, I can''t keep the unit more or less than two stairs away at all times. A step closer and it''s too close to my cleaning area. A step down and the hose just won''t allow me to reach. If only the hose could be a little longer it would help immensely. I also find the base of the unit hovers over the edge by a couple inches, which doesn''t challenge its center of gravity, but a single unfortunate move could cause it to topple so it''s good to pay attention to everything around you. Considering the shortness of the hose, it would''ve been nice if it could pivot or have free-range flexibility where it connects to the unit.

The sprayer doesn''t just spray the immediate area being cleaned; it fans out by several inches to either side. When I try to clean a small area, the last thing I want is to have excess moisture to eventually remove. Let''s face it all material retains some moisture even after vacuuming with "drying strokes." This increases the drying time and consumes more solution than needed which is wasteful.

The vessel for mixing the solution with water is clearly marked, however it''s capacity is fairly small so after about 10 minutes of solid use, such as the stairs or furniture, I need to go mix some more. That in itself is not a problem so much as it''s a bit of a drag to interrupt one''s flow of progress to go mix more cleaning solution. I have yet to be challenged with emptying the collection vessel before my task is complete so I would say it is a fair size, yet I am astonished that the liquid I collect is far less proportionate to the liquid spent, i.e. for every tub of cleaning solution used, I only retrieve about a quarter, if that much. That means a lot of moisture is still soaked into what I''ve cleaned and The drying time is considerable (5-8 hours for a mattress), while less absorbent things such as the stairs only need and hour or two at best. One can cut down on how much cleaning solution is used by spending a little time pre-treating the designated area once or twice before cleaning.

Another design flaw that caught my attention is the lack of a handle. this may sound silly to some: it''s a big tube, grab it anywhere. However I am 34 and have had arthritis for over a decade already. After about 10-15 minutes of use, my hands hurt because I can''t get a proper grip. I''ve tried holding it various ways to no avail. I wish it was easier to grab. I am glad most of my cleaning tasks are done in that amount of time or I would be ready to call it quits.

On the whole, this unit is great. It is easy to use and easy to clean. It is also convenient to stow away almost anywhere. I feel the power cord is an appreciable length. I also feel most people would love it. Bissell makes reliable products that last and last, however I feel the folks at Bissell''s research and development department could have spent a little more time developing the design of the Little Green. Whomever tested the prototype couldn''t possibly have used it in a home environment, which is unfortunate because it leaves avid consumers, such as myself, to discover all the design flaws. After all, this unit is supposed to make life''s little cleanup tasks considerably easier. Would I recommend it? Most likely, I would.

This machine is designed to guzzle bottles of Bissell Cleaner, but you can get around this!

Turn the machine OFF. Raise it above the spot you want to clean, either holding it or sitting it on a chair or higher step.

Lower the nozzle right over your spot, press the spray button, and gravity will drip the liquid as small as a dime to quarter size spot. Let it soak a few minutes, turn the machine back on and vacuum the liquid up.

Do saturate the spot well, then with the machine on press down without scrubbing too much and vacuum up as much of the liquid up as you can. Repeating, if necessary, will continue to lighten the stain. Vacuum it as dry as possible each time to pull out the stain.

There is also no reason you have to use the machine to hold and dispense your cleaning mix. You could use a bottle that squirts a narrow stream of liquid if you want to hit only small spots. After you''ve let it set a few minutes then use the machine to vacuum up the liquid.

I just invested in new carpet and needed a convenient compact cleaner. As the father of two active boys and the owner of two young (large) dogs & one fussy cat, I am concerned about muddy foot/paw prints, food spills and those much more critical "accidents" on the new carpet.

As expected, the cat struck first (and hopefully last) even before I removed the Little Green from the box! I''m pleased to say, the Little Green was well up to the challenge.

Easy unpack, low assembly, tank fill with water/solution, plug-in and clean-up. The whole job took less than 5 minutes. I was so pleased with the process from beginning to end. And best of all, my wife did not find the accident. the Little Green removed all evidence 100%! So, the cat is safe for now. The Little Green extended her 9 lives, keeping us all happy!

With six cats in the house, there''s sometimes a little problem of pet odor, whether from accidents, upchucks, or one of the cats deciding that a folded towel on the couch is a great litter box substitute. We needed an upholstery cleaner and carpet spot cleaner. After some looking around, I decided to try the Little Green machine.

The instructions were easy to follow, and the machine is simple to use. Cleaning solution goes in one tank. The hose has a scrubber head with a spray trigger that sprays the solution, then suctions the solution out of the fabric. The used solution is drawn out of the upholstery and goes into the second tank, which is easy to empty and rinse.

The spray device works best for surface cleaning. For the kind of deep cleaning I needed on the couch, I used a cloth and a bucket of vinegar and water to saturate the upholstery, then used the Little Green machine as a wet vac to suction the solution back up. Several applications did the trick.

The small nozzle makes the LIttle Green machine useful for furniture and for spot-cleaning carpets. It''s not a substitute for a larger steam cleaner for cleaning an entire carpet.

10 Oz Aluminum Spray Bottle

10 Oz Aluminum Spray Bottle - More Green! The aluminum portion of the spray bottle is great however, after 2 days of light use the plastic spray part literally broke in my hands. I have since purchased a new spray bottle just for the spray part and still use the aluminum base.

Its a nice bottle but after a couple of weeks the top wouldnt screw onto the bottle correctly. Not sure if it was the top or the aluminum part, but it got so bad that the bottle would fall off top if it was full of water.

I''m not sure I can use it and i have not taken the time to return it yet.

Sunny Brite II Water Stain Remover Save 12% Off

Sunny Brite II Water Stain Remover -The product is wonderful. We used it on some windows that were heavily coated with water calcium . We rubbed it on first and let it set for a few minutes and then sprayed the window with some window cleaner from our local glass/window store. Let it set for a couple of minutes and then wiped it all off. It is great and we can see out of our windows beautifully. If the window is really bad you may have to do it a second time, but it is well worth it. Great product.

Black & Decker CM1050B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker

Black & Decker CM1050B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, BlackI bought this coffee maker when our Mr. Coffee maker quit working after 6 months. I was very skeptical to purchase another "simple" coffee maker and did a lot of research on more expensive options. Ultimately, I purchased this maker because I needed my morning coffee and was willing to invest in a cheaper model while I finished my research on my "dream" coffee maker. We''ve been using this maker for about 2 weeks and I am very impressed! We make one pot of coffee each day and the sneak-a-cup feature works perfectly.... no leaks whatsoever! My husband used to dribble coffee all over the counter with the previous maker, but this one hasn''t leaked during pouring at all! I also love the shower style water spout. Other makers I''ve owned had a movable spout that seemed to always be in the way. It brews coffee quickly and the flavor is quite good too! It''s simple to program and the 2 hour auto shutoff is the ideal timeframe for our family. Plus, it keeps the coffee hot enough for the full 2 hours so that, even with cream added, the temperature is perfect for drinking.

I''ve postponed my search for a more expensive maker because this little dream machine is already meeting my needs! Thank you Black and Decker for making a simple and functional coffee maker!!!

UPDATE: 4 months later. I STILL love it! After a daily pot of coffee for 4 months straight, this coffee maker is still working perfectly. Just as new! Buy this and you won''t be disappointed.

My old coffee maker broke and I went looking for a new one, I had a $60 limit. I was reading reviews of coffee makers and one reviewer said something like, "hot water poured over grounds, why spend a fortune"? I realized the reviewer was right; that really is all there is to drip coffee makers. This pot serves HOT coffee but no scalded taste and keeps the coffee hot on the warmer. I did notice the coffee was not as hot after the first cup but it''s still on the hot side of warm. Read the instructions to set up the auto maker function, it''s not intuitive. The water pours in easily on either side of the grounds basket. For me if there is one negative thing it''s that when you poor the water in you must pull the unit out from under the overhead cabinets, the water reservoir lid in the up position won''t fit under the cabinet. It''s cheaper at Wal-Mart.

After having 2 expensive Cuisinart DCC-1200 coffee makers die, I needed a replacement. I found this one locally for an amazingly low price. The unit is smaller than the Cuisinart, and easier to use. It is easy to fill with water and coffee. Even though it is not shown as a feature, it does have an automatic shut off after 2 hours. It does have a clock and programmable timer so you can wake to brewed coffee. There is no audible alert to tell you the coffee is brewed, or shutting off, but that really seemed unnecessary anyway. It''s pretty easy to tell when it stops brewing.

As for the quality of the brewed coffee, so far so good. I do think that the Cuisinart was a little better, but it may be too soon to really say, it has only been used for 2 pots of coffee so far.

Others seem to complain about the pot dripping when pouring, this is NOT true, this thing doesn''t spill a drop. It is actually better in this regard than the Cuisinart that it replaced. So unless you are a gorilla, I can''t see how you will have a problem. Really, it has maybe half a drop at most left on the spout. You can tap it into the cup if you like, or just leave it, it is not even enough to drip. There are many reviews on Amazon for this and the essentially identical similar models complaining about how horrible it drips, and how their whole counter if filled with coffee. Either they are gorillas, or they are simply writing negative reviews for some reason. It absolutely lives up to the drip free claims, it works, and works well.

I can''t speak for the long term reliability of the product as I just got it last night and made coffee with it the first time this morning. However, while it would be a major inconvenience if it died, I could buy 8 or 9 of them for the cost of the Cuisinart! It cost less than the "free" warranty replacement from Cuisinart would have.

The nearly identical DLX1050B was rated a best buy by a major consumer ratings magazine.

Some of the few negatives:

1. It didn''t come with a permanent "gold" filter. This was pretty minor and I picked up one at the store the same time I bought the coffee maker for less than $5. There are several available on Amazon. Just choose the basket type, not the cone/Mellita style.

2. No back up power for the clock at all. If the lights blink, even briefly the clock will reset. The Cuisinart would withstand outages of at least a few seconds which covered the occasional light blink during a storm. The best was my old Braun that would work for almost half an hour without power, but sadly Braun doesn''t have coffee makers anymore it seems otherwise I would buy it instantly.

3. No adjustments for brew strength, pot warmer temperature, or option for 4 cups or less, or turn off time. None of these seem a big problem, on coffee makers that had these features I left them at the nominal setting anyway. The small pot brew option I did use a few times, but I also expect that it will brew a small pot just fine without that option.

4. No water filter. For me this was of no value as I use filtered water to fill the coffee maker anyway. If you use only tap water this could be a bigger deal though. Keep in mind though that the coffee makers that do have filters have fairly small, expensive filters that will need to be replaced. An external filter is probably cheaper in the long run, and you can use if for more than just coffee. The filter is also a source of failure as well. The Cuisinart had a filter, and even though I filled the coffee maker with water from an Reverse Osmosis filter, the filter ended up getting clogged with coffee grounds from the times that it overflowed from the brew basket into the water compartment and needed replacement. I will note too that there is much more space between the brew compartment and the water reservoir so even if the brew compartment did overflow it is less likely to fill the reservoir with coffee grounds.

5. After only 2 pots it is soon to tell, but I do think that the Cuisinart coffee tasted a little better.

6. The appearance is fine to myself and my wife. This unit is a glossy black plastic with a some shiny silver trim. It is also available in white. To us, this looks just fine, certainly not something to be ashamed of in any way. However the Cuisinart was available in a Stainless look and a Black Chrome look. I actually had one of each color. When clean they were attractive, but both, especially the Black Chrome showed every finger print, even spot of water, anything, so in real use it didn''t look good all the time. I expect that the glossy plastic will show finger prints and smudges as well, but nothing like the Black Chrome of the Cuisinart. While it may not look nearly as attractive, textured plastic solves all of these issues, but most coffee makers tend to be shiny.

Also be aware that there are several near identical models. You may prefer them, have better availability, or at least be able to read more reviews. It would be nice if Amazon would let you link reviews for similar products. Anyway here are links to help:

* The same device in White color: Black & Decker CM1050W 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, White

* A nearly identical model: Black & Decker DLX1050B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Glass Carafe, Black

Again, this appears to be a great value. It''s not necessarily the best coffee maker, but for the price that I was able to get it for locally it is an amazing value. Even if you just need a coffee maker to replace a failed one while considering what else to buy this could fill the bill. A few trips to Starbucks saved would easily pay this off.

UPDATE January 21, 2013: This is just an update to say that this coffee maker is still going strong. It basically still works like new. The carafe has some discoloration/stuff around the metal band from repeated dishwasher washes, but otherwise mostly still looks OK too. As for dripping, still not a problem. Once or twice over the year a few drops, literally a few drops fell from the brew section onto the carafe heater when removing the carafe. Really this is far less of a problem than on the Cuisinart it replaced, meaning it simply isn''t a problem.

This coffee maker has been in service now for about 13 months. Most days it makes at least one pot of coffee, and on weekends occasionally 2 or more pots a day. It has outlasted the second Cuisinart by something around 5 months, and near what the first Cuisinart lasted. As I said it is still going strong with no signs of problems. Again, it only cost a fraction of what the Cuisinart cost, so if it died today it would have been a tremendous value. After over a year of use my wife and I are still happy, still comment on how it outlasted the very expensive Cuisinart, and would likely buy it all over again. I can still continue to recommend it without any reservation. While it perhaps may not be the absolute best coffee maker, it is absolutely a tremendous value.

I got this last month to replace my old coffee maker. Between a vacation and me being the only coffee drinker in the house, it had been used less than half a dozen times. When I poured water in it this morning, it all came gushing out the bottom of the base (all over the counter, the floor, and my robe!). I had to quickly unplug it and let it drain over the sink. Obviously, it was still under warranty, so I called the customer service line. It turns out I have to pay about half of its value just to have a new one shipped to me. I''m not happy at all!

Excellent coffee maker. It''s simple to use and it makes fresh, delicious coffee every time. It is also designed so that it is as drip free as possible. Aqua-Pure AP431 Scale Inhibition Replacement Cartridge Save 43% Off

Aqua-Pure AP431 Scale Inhibition Replacement Cartridge, Easy Change High Capacity Water Filter for AP430SS
  • Scale and corrosion inhibition helps extend life of water heaters
  • Unrestricted flow design provides up to 10 gallons (37.9 liters) per minute
  • Disposable cartridge inhibits scale for up to six months before replacement
  • Slow-dissolve rate provides consistent dosing and long cartridge life
  • When used with a system that is installed before the hot water system, the cartridge also helps protect appliances and pipes downstream

I think this hardwater prevention cartridge works. I have read that it is a must for people who have tankless water heaters, who don''t also have water softeners. Personally, I think you should buy a water softner over this device if you can afford it and are okay maintaining it. That said, I am using this device on the water line flowing into my water heater. I also have a hot water filter ) on the outlet side of the water heater to catch the stuff released into the water heater. That filter catches a lot of slimy rust and hardward. The only issue is that I need to change the filter quarterly. However, the aqua-pure seems to last six months. Overall, I think this is a good product, but you have to get it installed or install it yourself. Then, you probably want to filter the other side. I think a water softner (Morton Salt #MSD34C 34M Water Softener Unit) would work better, but this solution is less expensive to purchase and maintain.

Neoperl Faucet Aerator Water saving Bathroom/ Kitchen 1.0 gpmThis has to be one of the simplest and most painless ways to save water! There really is no noticable difference in how it feels when you wash your hands, but it really uses alot less water! I have installed these on every faucet in the house. About the only negative I can think of is that filling a large pan of water does take longer, but it''s a small trade off for the water that is saved washing your hands or rinsing dishes! Installation was easy and the product is well made with a nice quality finish! I have been recomending these to all of my friends!

I understand it has inside and outside fitments but it just wouldent fit. my faucet is brand new less than a year old so it sucked as I was looking forward to using them. CRYSTAL QUEST® Undersink Replaceable Triple Fluoride Water Filter System

CRYSTAL QUEST® Undersink Replaceable Triple Fluoride Water Filter SystemWe bought this water filter after doing hours of research. We wanted a comprehensive water filter that removed fluoride and was affordable. After much consideration of the options we decided to go with this one. We have been using it for a few weeks now and so far so good. We are pretty pleased with this purchase. The water tastes good and we have tested it at about 50-55 PPM which is good for this type of filter I read it''s fine under 100. It says to have a licensed plumber install it for the warranty to be in effect. However, being that my husband is very capable and a great handyman he said he would be able to do it after he read through the instructions to see what was involved. He did not have to do any drilling, he just removed the sink sprayer. It took hime approx. 1-2 hrs to install ( he split it up into two nights.) We did buy a pressure regulator for the line as it is recommended. It arrived quickly through the Amazon seller:Sparkling clean water filters.

After we had this filter installed, the water had a stronger chlorine taste than our tap water without any filter and way more chlorine taste than with our old, less expensive filter. We contacted the seller, who responded promptly. He contacted the manufacturer, who had to be nudged a few times, but after a few days responded with a phone call. The manufacturer sent us a new filter for the chlorine.

After we installed the new filter, the water didn''t taste of chlorine at first drink. But if it remains in a glass bottle in the refrigerator for more than a few hours, the chlorine taste is still there. I''ve solved it right now by purchasing bottled water for the water we keep in our refrigerator. If we fill a glass from the filter and drink it immediately, there is no taste. But we like our water cold, and the water from this filter tastes quite strongly of chlorine after a few hours. (Our old, less expensive water filter never developed a chlorine taste. I wish we had stayed with that!) But we wanted a filter that removed fluoride from the water. Maybe I''m just a skeptic, but I can''t help but wonder if the chlorine filter does such a poor job of filtering out the clorine (which you can taste), is it really removing the tasteless fluoride! We are very disappointed in this product to say the least!

I looked into returning the whole unit, but the shipping would be expensive. So, I am going to purchase bottled water and put up with this product for a while until purchasing a different filter doesn''t seem like too bitter of a pill to swallow! I certainly wouldn''t recommend this one. I would probably give it zero stars if that were an option, except that the seller was prompt and courteous.

They wanted me to cut the plug off and toss the unit. I did as they asked, drove 30 miles to their warehouse only to find they were out of stock. Why tell me to come pick up when you''re out of stock. Now they are looking for unit to send me. Not sure when that''ll be. Waste of money, time, energy. stay away. this company sucks! This product sucks!

Update, they couldn''t find a unit for me. They will refund the money in 10-14 days. The also didn''t call me back to tell me this. It''s a month out of warranty now (should have returned it promptly, assuming they have a 1 year warranty which I don''t know). I liked the idea of not having to lift the water jug high, but what can I say, gravity is more reliable than this thing.

Having the bottle hidden is very nice but the machine is very loud. Every time you pour water, i guess it re-draws the water. though it is only about 5 seconds long, it is really really loud and annoying. Also the machine arrived with a huge sticker about their product on the bottom and the sticker is impossible to remove. If i knew that it was not going to come off, i would have never tried so now it looks horrible. i called the company about it and all they said was that they only address "working" issues for the machine. I like the clean look but would not recommend the machine. Try other brands.

Warning: If you have four hours to peel off the 7 x 7 inch advertisement from the front of your new water cooler, then this product is for you. Yes, a brightly colored permanently affixed decal with list of features of your new water cooler is prominently displayed on the front door. Great decor for your kitchen. Plastic door scratches so be very careful!!!! Don''t use tools. Just sit on the floor and use your fingernails when you have some spare time. Then get out the alcohol and painstakenly work at the adhesive so that the water cooler actually looks like it does in the picture. Stupendous thinking of the company. Thank you so much for wasting my time. Really.

Home Water Distiller: Waterwise® 8800 Countertop Water Distiller Save 7% Off

Home Water Distiller: Waterwise® 8800 Countertop Water DistillerI have owned this distiller for 10 years now; bought it from sears as a kenmore brand but is identical to the 8800. I run 2 gallons a day on average. A few things to know:

1. It produces heat, I keep mine in the the laundry room with the exhaust fan going while in use. It gets hot in there.

2. Will comfortably do 2-3 gallons a day. It takes about 4 hrs to complete one cycle and needs to cool completely before the next one starts. The delay start feature works great for the cooling on back-to-back cycles.

3. I have hard water and get by with cleaning once a month. After each cleaning the boiler looks like new. I use he water wise cleaning product.

4. Excellent customer service. No issues until 7 years in and it just stopped. Called water wise and explained my model was a kenmore unit, they were willing to send me the parts but recommended I send it to them, for refurbishing. I did and it came back looking like new for about $150 which was the cost of all new parts plus $25 labor.

5. It''s been 3 years since refurb and no other problems.

I have used other units before this one and found the 8800 to be far superior in functionality as well as durability.

A grossly overpriced device that basically just boils water and condenses steam. Marketed by a company operating out of a Post Office box using slick-paper direct mail advertisements that are long on unverifiable customer testimonials and short on any really useful product performance information. They don''t mention that the sealing gasket of the model 8800 is life-limited and will eventually leak or break (although it may be expected to outlive the warranty), and it is not readily obvious that they provide no way to order online, or by mail, any replacement part, or that they even acknowledge that one exists.

Bodum Chambord 3 cup French Press Coffee Maker

Bodum Chambord 3 cup French Press Coffee Maker, 12 oz., ChromeEven if you find an espresso machine alluring, in the meantime, you can''t beat coffee made with this elegant and perfectly functional press pot. It''s simply the easiest and best way to extract maximum flavor from your finest beans (use a uniform grind slightly coarser than automatic drip). Some people even prefer it to espresso. It''s durable, easy to clean, and doesn''t require electricity.

One reviewer claimed they put the grounds and the water in the pot, immediately pushed the plunger and waited 10 minutes. However, they will get much better results if they wait 2-4 minutes (depending upon the coarseness of the grind) before plunging the coffee, and then drink it right away. I wouldn''t even let the coffee rest, plunged, in the pot for ten minutes, as it will become over-extracted.

As for the reviewer that whined about truth in advertising, all I can say is "Duh". They themselves pointed out that the pot does make three espresso cups'' worth of brew. And if they watch what they are doing next time, instead of just trying to pour 12 oz. of hot water into something, they can avoid future unpleasant experiences. I actually make coffee for two "cappuccinos" with this model. If you don''t like your coffee as strong, you can simply add a little hot water to your cup after you have poured your coffee (like an Americano).

My sister bought this press for the house. This one works real well-perfect for those coffee press users. Bodum is also a well known brand of coffee press, so you don''t have to worry about a flimsy product. Also if it breaks, Bodum is pretty good with spare parts. As a comsumer, I always recommend you shop around for the best price.

When using a coffee press, or any other coffee machine, make sure you FRESHLY grind your coffee for optimal taste. I recommend all serious coffee drinkers to invest in a good burr grinder-you really can taste the differnce. Also for a coffee press the ginds must be large and coarse in thickness, otherwise your pressed coffee will taste lousy-do not use automatic drip sized grinds. I also recommend a quality dark/French roast when using a press.

Please note that this press makes 3 French-sized cups of coffee. In Paris cafes, you''re served coffee in a press with a "bowl sized" cup half filled with steamed milk (Cafe Au Lait).

The person who chastised everyone''s reading skills below, insisting that this is a "3-STEP (as in add grounds, add water, press) not 3-CUP" press, is incorrect, and apparently did not her/himself read the title (which does indeed say "3-CUP", NOT "3-STEP). It IS a "3-cup" press -however, if you look around at the descriptions of various french presses found here, you will find that they all define a "cup" as 4 ounces. So, no, this 3-cup press, which is 12 ounces, is not going to brew enough coffee for 3 *mugs*. (And the 8-cup presses, which are 32 ounces, are not going to brew enough for 8 mugs.) The ones referred to as "3-cup" will brew about roughly mug''s worth of coffee. This particular press is at least as good as any other I''ve used, which is to say very good!

I purchased this as a 1-person coffeemaker because the other 2 coffee drinkers around here complained that I made coffee too strong. Although this is a 3-cup press (each cup = 4 oz, European standards, I suppose) it''s really perfect for just one mug. I can almost fill my 14 oz travel mug, and I only ever drink one cup in the morning, so capacity is perfect for me. If you drink lots of mugs, don''t get this!

I got one of these in a discount store for only a few dollars, which was a great bargain! Following the suggestion of 3 tablespoons of coarsely ground beans with 12 oz H2O, my coffee comes out as strong as I like it. There''s sediment, but that doesn''t bother me. Reminds me of Turkish coffee. Clean-up is a little more involved than with a drip maker, but I like the press coffee better, so that doesn''t bother me either. The only thing that can truly bother me about coffee is when it isn''t strong enough.

Of course, the coffee cools quite quickly if you leave it in the press too long, so I just pour it into the vacuum mug right away, where it stays at temp much longer.

Also, as a control freak, this brewing method is appealing because it allows me to boil the water to the exact temp it needs to be (yes, I use a thermometer. I did say I was a freak). I love this method of brewing coffee, but clean-up and sediment might not be OK with everyone.

Considering the price I paid, I give this 5 stars. It happens to match my coffee needs exactly.

Alas, like so many other products, this one has become cheap and shoddy. I bought my first Bodum french press almost 20 years ago. It lasted that long with regular use, made good coffee, and became much loved in my house. A few weeks ago I bought a replacement -same company, same size, same model -and much to my disappointment, this thing is a piece of junk. The metal parts are flimsy and about half the time the grinds slip past the filter, as well as the ridiculous plastic filter at the top. I''m throwing it away. It is that useless.

BUNN HG Phase Brew 8-Cup Home Coffee Brewer Save 30% Off

BUNN HG Phase Brew 8-Cup Home Coffee BrewerBought this model at Target a couple weeks ago to replace the cheapo Mr. Coffee machine we''d been using for the past 5 years. Personally, I think it''s great. The wife, however, thinks the coffee comes out too strong. I told her that she''s finally getting a taste of real coffee, not some watered down junk. You might need to play around a bit to figure out the ratio of grounds:water that suits you.

Pros:

1. Coffee is hot. No worries about lukewarm coffee here.

2. Coffee comes out tasting good. It''s on the strong side. My preference is to use a french press, but the HG is much more convenient for my morning routine.

Cons (all minor in my view):

1. Coffee might be too hot for some. I burned my tongue on the first few cups, so I usually let it sit on the counter for a few minutes before drinking.

2. It''s a 10 minute brew cycle (6 to heat the water, 4 for the drip). It''s a little long for my wife, but I have no problems with it. I usually just wind up shaving, brushing teeth, combing hair, etc. during the brew.

3. It''s LOUD. Those who are sensitive to that kind of thing might want to look at a different model.

4. It''s pretty tall. It just barely fits under our cabinets and I have to slide it out every morning in order to fill it.

5. It has an 8-cup capacity. We only drink 6 cups in the morning, so it suits our needs. We figure that we can make multiple pots on the rare occasions that we have company/family over.

6. It has a 4-cup minimum. Again, it works well for us, but I wouldn''t recommend it to my single friends that limit themselves to one mug.

I haven''t had any issues with the carafe, like others have mentioned. Then again, the Mr Coffee regularly left little puddles on the kitchen counter, so maybe I just haven''t noticed the problems. At any rate, it pours fine for me and I haven''t spilled anything yet.

It''s not a perfect machine, but I definitely think that the positives outweigh the negatives. My primary concern was getting good tasting coffee. The HG definitely delivers, so I can live with all of the minor inconveniences.

After my trusty Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker, Black and Stainless Steel died after 5 years of steady use, I decided to ''upgrade'' to a Bunn. The Bunn HG brewer is different from previous Bunns because it heats the water for each brew right before actually brewing, as opposed to inefficiently keeping a water tank heated 24/7, 365 days a year (previous Bunn models). It is for this reason, and the Bunn name, that I enthusiastically dove in and bought it. To make a long story short, I am not so enthusiastic after using it--read on for details.

The carafe. It actually is the cleanest pouring carafe I have ever used--not a drop spilled. However, it consists of a plastic rim attached to a lower portion of glass. Coffee leaks at this junction no matter how fast you pour, producing a steady stream of coffee that dribbles down the outside of the coffee pot and onto the counter top. Not sure if I just got a bad carafe or if this problem is more common.

Full capacity brewing. The way this unit works is you add up to 8 cups of water to the tank. When turned on, it boils this water until the total temp reaches 200 deg F (about 6 mins), then it releases it over 4 minutes through the coffee funnel and into the carafe. The problem is that if the full 8 cups of water are added to the tank, a little comes out during the boil phase from between the spin lid and top of the tank. This then goes down the sides of the tank, drips on the pot and down to the warming plate where it hisses and boils (no, I didn''t overfill it--it was right on the max line). I did not experience this with a little under 7.5 cups water in the tank.

Build. This unit actually looks like it came from Captain Picard''s ready room and is unique looking. However, there is a lot of open space in it''s design--the unit is not compact. Also, there are only two supports holding up the water tank and the brew basket. During the aforementioned boil phase, the vibrations of the boiling water cause the tank to visibly shake. It isn''t excessive and in no way harms the unit, but it adds a chintzy feel to this unit and could easily be solved by supporting the tank on three sides. In addition, it is just about 15.5 inches tall, but my cabinets sit exactly 15.25 inches above my countertops. Grrr!

Lastly, 8 cup capacity is just barely enough for me and my wife--a larger capacity would be nice.

In all fairness, the unit makes good coffee. However, so do other coffee makers that only cost half as much. Even if a replacement carafe would solve the leaking coffee problem, I feel there are too many issues present for a $100 coffee brewer.

ADDENDUM (11/4/10): I decided to keep this unit when the place I bought it from wanted to charge a 15% restocking fee (my fault for not reading the fine print). I contacted BUNN about the leaky carafe and they sent out a replacement, which works good--no leaks. Unfortunately, I went to make coffee the next day but nothing happened. The display showed it was working, but it did not heat the water. I called BUNN again, and they sent another brewer. So far, this one is working just fine. I have to say BUNN customer service has been excellent in dealing with my issues--both times sending out replacements promptly.

I made my 1st pot of coffee with this today, and I can say that this pot made the best coffee I have ever made. I went with this Bunn model because it was affordable, had a clock/timer, and preheats the water to the correct temperature before the brewing begins. The unit was very attractive, easy to set up, and though the directions said the water had a 6 minute heat up time and then a 3 minute brew time, my coffee was ready much quicker. I add liquid creamer to my coffee, and even though it was chilled creamer, the coffee was still piping hot. The coffee was smooth, with no bitter notes at all. I used Dunkin'' Donuts freshly ground arabica beans, and it tasted better than any coffee I ever got at their donut shop! Bunn has made a believer out of me, the water temp. really makes a huge difference.

First off, let me say I almost NEVER drank ''drip-style'' coffee before I started using this Bunn maker. I have a french press at work, and use that every day -on the weekends, I usually don''t bother with the drip maker at home and when I do, I''m usually not crazy about the flavor. More trouble than it''s worth.

Enter this newfangled coffee maker... the technology is touted at length on the product description, so I''ll spare a re-hash, but to summarize:

Dimensions: this fits atop my kitchen counter, beneath the cabinets, without a problem. Not sure what others on here have been complaining about (unless their cabinets are really low). It''s a little taller than my old maker, but not that much taller. Fits in the same spot as the old one.

Aesthetic: I like the brushed steel / black aesthetic. Modern, and meshes with other devices around the kitchen/house. I''m not a stickler for interior decoration, but it''s still a plus.

Ease of use: same as a normal maker; fill the carage, pour the water in the receptacle, place filter, scoop coffee, hit ''Start''... in 8-10 minutes you get perfect coffee.

Carafe: this is where this product gets 4 stars instead of 5. It''s a relatively small annoyance, but so key with coffee makers that it does mean I''m lowering my rating. The Carafe is attractive and well-made, but you have to be careful pouring water into the top receptacle, and be even more careful pouring hot coffee into your mug. Why? The pour spout is ''modern'' looking, as in it''s mostly flat, without a clearly defined pouring channel. As a consequence, liquids tend to run to the sides of the pour spout and will trickle down the outside of the carafe and spill on your counter/table/lap.

This can be MOSTLY mitigated by pouring carefully and you have to leave the top on (helps reduce the seepage/spilling). After a few times, I got more or less accustomed to it and can avoid spilling now, but it''s still a small annoyance that, repeated with each pour, makes me miss my old coffee maker''s carafe.

Coffee Flavor: the bubbling/steaming sound as the water heats up sets your mouth to watering. When the coffee brews, the smell instantly fills the room and house. The coffee from this machine is much bolder than normal drip-style makers, yet, true to the manufacturer''s promise, is not bitter at all -I''d say even bolder (and still less bitter) than the coffee I make with my french press. I really believe the technology and the super-hot water make superior coffee.

Capacity: the 8-''cup'' capacity is fine for me. Makes 3-4 good mugs of coffee, and for those who want more, it''d be easy to refill the maker and re-start it... by the time you''re done with your cup(s), another batch will be ready.

BOTTOM LINE: I really wish i could give this maker 5 stars. It is a great coffee maker. It looks cool, it sounds cool, makes the house smell good, the coffee tastes great, and it''s well-made. One small design flaw -a quirky and sometimes spillage-prone carafe pour spout -presents a relatively minor annoyance, but as it''s repeated each time you make coffee, it makes you wonder why the engineering team at Bunn didn''t make a slight design tweak to mitigate the pouring problem. Oh well it''s otherwise an outstanding coffee maker.

Want BUNN HG Phase Brew 8-Cup Home Coffee Brewer Discount?

We don''t tend to drink coffee often at all. I have had coffee from all sorts of coffee makers over the years and I just was not impressed by them. Coffee always seems to have that bitter edge that does not thrill me at all. My husband and son have had it on occasion but don''t make a regular habit of drinking it.

...then we got the Bunn HG Phase Brew 8-cup Home Brewer.

I have never had a cup of coffee like that in my life!

WHAT IS THE BUNN HG PHASE BREW 8-CUP HOME BREWER LIKE?

We have made coffee so much since receiving this coffee maker, and I have to say that this is one of the most fabulous experiences I have had in a long while. The coffee maker has a 2-8 cup capacitybut this is only 5 oz cups so if you tend to have larger cups of coffee, this only has a small capacity for a few cups tops.

The water is poured in the top and a flap pushed over the opening, and immediately the water begins to boil. Six minutes later the water is at a consistent temperature of 200 degrees and the liquid is sprayed in the filter over the coffee where it takes 4 minutes to brew. The coffee pot sits on the warming plate and stays warm up two hours before automatically shutting off. The package comes with about 20 coffee filters to start you off.

There is a timer that allows you to preset coffee for the following morning if desired.

WHAT DO I THINK OF THIS COFFEE MAKER?

I have to say that this coffee maker makes unbelievable coffee. Bitterness is at a minimum, and the coffee is smooth and lusciousfor coffee, anyway.

NOT JUST FOR COFFEE...

I was wondering what a non-coffee fan like me would find to do with this amazing machine when I decided to take the plunge and make a cup of green tea the same way that I brewed the coffee. The results were AMAZING!!!

We have tested this unit out with herbal, fruit, green and white teas, all with fantastic results. Tea is strong and full but no bitterness. This is such a delight, I can not tell you how excited I am about this. We all arewhenever making tea or coffee with this thing, we all line up in front of it and try to divide up the spoils to satisfy everyone.

The pot that comes with this machine is a bit tricky to work with and does dribble when you pour it sometimes, but it is not that bad to work with. I just make sure that I wipe it quickly before placing on the warmer. My husband is more irritated with this than I am.

FINAL COMMENTS

So, whether it is tea of coffee, the Bunn HG Phase Brew 8-cup Home Brewer is a delightful machine. The pot has a flap on top which has to be held in place with the thumb so it does not flip open when pouring, but it is not a big deal. So far, the pot also pours well, with just a few occasions of dripping, but it is not too bad.

As long as you remember to turn off the machine and not put an empty pot on the warming plate, this machine works great so far. We use it constantly and can not wait to experiment even more with it.

One last thingyou HAVE to use the filters designed for this coffee maker to get the best resultsand they are not bleached with chemicals so there is not a twisting of flavor like some bleached filters do.

When making tea from bags, we do not use a filter, but instead line the metal cup with the bags evenly distributed across the bottom, but when making loose tea, we do use a filter, allowing for one spoonful per cup of tea wanted. We find that a full 8 cup pot of tea serves our four medium sized mugs perfectly.

UPDATE

Since the writing of this review, we have made 25 types of tea and 8 types of coffee including organic. In every single case whether it be white, green, black, or herbal tea and whether it be caffeinated or de-caf coffee, the results have been superior to any other method we have used in making these same varieties of tea or coffee. We have never been so impressed by a coffee or tea making machine or method as we have this Bunn Phase Brew coffeemaker. I do not exaggerate when I say that everyone in my family raves EVERY SINGLE TIME we drink a beverage brewed in this machine. It is fantastic!
