Doulton HCPS Countertop Water Filter Save 30% Off

Doulton HCPS Countertop Water Filter with Ceramic Ultracarb FilterI bought the Doulton Countertop Water Filter a couple months ago and I''m sorry I did. I can''t drink the water from it given the ceramic filter continually discharges something into the water that is gritty. My mouth is coated with a film of grit after drinking the water. The ceramic filters, when new, are coated with some type of powder which looks like residue from the manufacturing process and it appears this is what ends up in the drinking water. The directions require a new filter to have water run thought it for 10 min followed by a 24 hour rest period and then another 10mins of water but after doing that and running lots of additional water through the filter before I fill up a glass it still is gritty. I''m on my 2nd cartridge. The first had the same problem but got better but returned to being unduly gritty as I used it more. All in all a grossly unsatisfactory experience.

I''m kind of shocked by the bad reviews on this, especially since the reviews on the Doulton filter that goes INSIDE this unit are glowing.

Check them out at:

http://www.amazon.com/Doulton-Ultracarb-Ceramic-Replacement-Candle/dp/B000NZRFYQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1357519555&sr=1-2&keywords=doulton+filter

I''ve had this for ten years, changed the filter twice, and am about to again.

I''ve never bothered with cleaning the filter since it lasts so long between filters for me.

Not only has it always tasted great but if I try to give people tap water and mention I also have filtered available, they ALWAYS much prefer the taste of the Doulton filtered version. So it''s not just me that notices the difference.

And the Doulton isn''t just made to only improve the taste, like so many of the other cheaper filters are, it''s for filtering nasty stuff like lead and chemicals which the others leave in.

A great product with zero problems after over ten years of constant use.

Does it get better than that?

Buy Doulton HCPS Countertop Water Filter Now

I bought this in February of 2010 (for more than the current $134 list). I live in Los Angeles, where the water is terrible. I am stunned at what a poor purchase this was! I did a lot of research, yet the taste of the water is TERRIBLE. A simple Brita pitcher tastes exponentially better. Doulton should be ashamed!

I had called Doulton after I purchased the product, and they wouldn''t do anything about it since I didn''t buy directly through them. In addition to terrible water taste, the filter has quite a long stream of water after you shut off the tap. After over a year without using the filter, and at a new house, I actually did buy a replacement cartridge this month. Since I had already made the investment in the system, I figured I would put it on bathroom tap at the very least -which is where it''s going to go. I recently called again, to see if I could get some advice or assistance, and once again the rep was surprised not only that the water tasted terrible, but that it streamed that much water after shut off.

So: defective filter that the company won''t stand by, or just a sub-par filter for dirty Los Angeles water? I''m sorry I gave this another try. Truly very disappointing and aggravating and a waste of money.

By the way, the dog won''t drink the water either. The dog drinks all sorts of water piles in all sorts of dirty places.

Save yourself the trouble. I''m going to try another countertop system -with a warranty -and hope that works. Unimpressed with Doulton all around. (I purchased a very inexpensive Vitamin C shower filter on Amazon and that company promptly honored their product when I needed a replacement part...) I''m trying something off EWG''s recommended lists:

Good luck.

I have had this Doulton Countertop Water Filter with Ceramic Ultracarb Filter since 1995, which I bought for $135! No price inflation here! Very sturdy and efficient system. The filter does its job for one person for about 6-12 months, depending on usage. There''s a built-in (inadvertent?)safety feature that prevents using the filter when it''s no longer functional: the water flow weakens, then eventually stops. If this happens, one unscrews the canister, and cleans the filter candle with a brush, or after 2 or 3 cleanings, replaces the filter. The goop that gums up the works is what I would have been drinking without the filter! Yuck! Nothing is more compelling for water purification than a used-up filter! Don''t live at home without it! Highly recommended, and very reasonably priced.

Aprilaire #45 Water Panel Evaporator Save 23% Off

Aprilaire #45 Water Panel Evaporator, 10-PackAbout 10 years ago I replaced the old furnace humdifier with Aprilaire automatic humidifier that doesn''t waste water. It is combined with these evaporator panels and is an excellent design. Never has any water gone to waste, and these panels last for as long as they can stand up to the mineral content in your water, because that is the only thing that will ever cause them to be inoperable. If you have high lime and calcium in your water, then these panels will eventually fail, but replacing the media is very easy. A 10-pack is probably a 10 year supply in my experience.

The humidifier allows for manual humidity control or it has an automatic feature that is based upon exterior temperature. I prefer to control mine manually so that I have more granular control over interior humidity. I prefer that so that I can adjust according to how much condensation exists on the interior of windows during winter, and to adjust according to dry eye from wearing contacts. I have no doubt that it works just fine in automatic mode. The manual mode is a nice feature to have for those that prefer more granular control.

EcoloBlue 30 Water Cooler

EcoloBlue 30 Water Cooler - Atmospheric Water GeneratorI have the EcoloBlue 30. I thought the manual was good with a few omissions. The manual has photos of all the maintenance procedures that need to be preformed every 6 months to a year. You need to read the manual before you even think about plugging in the unit. This is not an unpack and plug-in device. I had to fill the bottom tank five times to prime the EcoloBlue 30 for it to get going. I called technical support and did get though directly 3 of the 5 times. I called so many times because I was not sure what was occurring was normal. They give you 30 days to return the unit if you are not satisfied. The shipping weight is 132 pounds. You do have an option to connect a water line to the unit that is filtered rather than using the dehumidifying circuit to produce water (a winter, low humidity option). You do have an option to turn heating and cooling of the water on/off. When the unit is either cooling the water (top tank) or in dehumidifying mode it has a fan that moves a lot of air. The unit produces noise when in operation and is much noisier than your typical refrigerator. You cannot put this unit in a small room because it will suck all the humidity out of the air in short order. The 30 system seems to be well designed but very complex. I wonder how reliable the unit will be over the long haul. The water tastes great either hot or cold. In the 6 months of using the system I did not have any mold or bad water smell issues. Beats carrying 42 pound 5 gallon water bottles.

Some concerns:

The minimum Relative Humidity should be 40% not 35% (readout of RH on blue LCD) as stated in the manual. Anything less than 40% does not produce any meaningful water amounts. Their charts for RH and water production are off by a decimal point at least. The manual on page 5 even states that it operates best at a RH of 50%. I can verify this, at 50% the system 30 does make water at an acceptable rate. The low humidity solution would be to use the external (tap water) connection on the back of the 30 to supply water. As stated previously this unit moves a lot of air, there is a noise issue. Maintenance, you need to monitor and clean the system 30 at regular intervals described in the manual. A new filter set will cost you $79. In fairness all water treatment systems need maintenance, the system 30 a little more than others.

Like Jack, I got the idea from the Alex Jones show.

Gripe number 1:

-I ordered it in early July......and didn''t receive it until EARLY SEPTEMBER!

Gripe #2:

-So I finally get it hooked up and ready to go after letting it sit for 24 hours (part of the setup instruction) and what happens? A leak! One of the 90 elbows on the filters in the front was cracked. I fix that and wait 3 days as it fills for the first time.

Gripe#3

Another leak! This time it was the back side top of the T piece where water is dispensed. I call customer service and they tell me that this is a multi use piece.........they make soda machines too and they use the same connector pieces. I assume they save money by using the same parts, but where is QC? So they are now send me out a plug for that gaping design flaw. At this point I''m on the verge of returning it......

Gripe #4 (the last straw):

After two and one half weeks of trouble it still takes over 3 days to produce a full tank. I have drained it 3 and a half times in between fixing leaks and I still get tons of mold floating in the water. I''m done.

In short.....I love the idea.....but it seems to be years away on the affordable side.

UPDATE: It is December 7 2011 and I still have no sign of a refund. I returned it on 11 October 2011.

We bought the water generator after hearing about it advertised on the Alex Jones Radio Show. It worked for just under two years then started leaking big time. The reality is these are cheaply made products slapped together in China. The concept is great but the reality is not good. The company is also throwing out a lot of fake positive reviews which is always a bad sign.

I don''t normally write reviews but due to the high cost of this item and the lack of a lot of reviews I thought I would add my experience. I bought the EcoloBlue 30 unit a month ago after doing a lot of online research about the product. I seen a couple of negative reviews on Amazon and was a little afraid to make the purchase. It appeared to me the negatives were isolated and circumstantial events so I took the chance and placed the order. I''m glad I did.

The unit arrived well packaged and within a couple weeks. All parts were present and no damage noted. I moved the unit to a central location in my house and let it sit the required 24 hours. While it was setting I assembled and cleaned the unit as the instructions stated. It was very simple, installation of the RO filter and a wipe down of the collector and bottom tank. The instructions, while adequate, could be improved. They read as if they are a foreign translation to english. On one page it says to hit the SET button to select other options and to use the MODE button to change settings. Wrong, the other way around. All I can say is that if it doesn''t make sense then figure it to be a misprint and use common sense. But these were minor and relatively few mistakes.

Yes, as one reviewer said it does take a lot of filling the bottom collector before you see any progress in the top tank level indicator. I too was becoming concerned until I opened the top and looked at the top tank itself. The bottom tank is considerable smaller than the top tank as the top is your main storage and the bottom is your condensation collector. Made sense to me, plus, remember that all your filters and lines are empty and those need filled as well. It took about 2 gallons of water in the bottom to get a level of 3 on the top indicator the first time. This first batch is to flush the system and you drain it as per the instructions.

Once the initial drain is complete you let the system run to make a full batch of water and drain that out as well. I did taste the first batch and it had a plastic taste, kind of like the way water taste when you drink from a water hose. I was concerned how long that would take to dissipate. Not long as it turned out. The first recommended batch of water after all the required drains was very good indeed. I did not sanitize the system initially with Hydrogen Peroxide as some have done because the instructions do not require it. I''m pleased with my results so far.

On to daily operation. Yes, it is noisy. This thing moves a lot of air. It''s about as noisy as a small oscillating fan. Not unpleasant or irritating but noticeable. It doesn''t bother me and no one has complained about it yet, but it isn''t quiet so just beware of that and decide accordingly. Currently we are experiencing high 90''s and plus 60% humidity. Very muggy. After plugging in the unit I noticed a very nice side benefit of using it. Within a few hours of running my RH dropped from 61% to 55%. I huge difference in how comfortable it felt in the house. I am averaging around 50 to 51% RH with the machine running. That is aprox 10 to 11% drop in RH throughout the day. The instructions said it may take up to 72 hours to fill the top tank. I filled it in 25 hours and have been able to raise the thermostat a couple degrees since it now feels about the same as it used to without the humidity. My RH percentages (RH=Relative Humidity) were varified by an independent hygrometer located 10 feet from the unit itself. The unit RH reading and the Hygrometer have always been within 1 or 2% of each other throughout the day. So, in summary, I have clean, fresh drinking water, 3 gallons a day, and a 10 to 11% drop in the RH throughout the house. (My house is 1700sq ft.) I can see why they warn you about not operating this in too small a location as it really would literally suck all the water from the air. My wife has noticed that the house plants need a little more watering now than they used to as well. In fact, I now keep the central fan running to circulate the dryer air because when I don''t the room with the AWG drops in RH but the rest of the house doesn''t.

I have had NO problems with setting it up, operating it, or maintaining it. Granted I haven''t had it that long but I am none-the-less very happy with my purchase. I use the water to make my morning coffee and have, for the first time, discovered what coffee taste like without chlorine and flouride, and I like it! It is my opinion that this is was a good purchase. Sure, it has plastic parts in many places, but so does my car unfortunately. The parts appear to be common plastic and I''m sure I could find cheap parts locally if I needed to. But overall I think it''s well built. Would I but another one? Yes. Would I recommend it to another family member? Yes. I am happy with my purchase. The cons are few and the pros are many so I give this a 5 star rating.

I have owned the EcoloBlue Model 30 for two years. It does what it is advertised to do. It makes very clean water from the air. This is what I want in the event of a natural or manmade disaster. I don''t want to be dependent on a public water supply as they often become unreliable when emergency strikes. I run this atmospheric water generator a couple of days a week to keep it "emergency ready". If standard wall outlet power becomes unavailable, it will continue to make water from the air because I have it plugged into a solar battery backup unit. It''s built-in 12 stage reverse osmosis filtration system produces very clean water. For proper operation of this emergency appliance, read the instruction manual before plugging it in. This is not a plug-and-play appliance. Once unpacked, set it in place for 24 hours before plugging it in, to give enough time for the compressor fluid to settle. If you decide to move it to a different location, you''re disturbing the compressor fluid so wait another 24 hours to allow the compressor fluid to settle. This is why reading the manual is strongly recommended before plugging it in. Treat this important appliance with the TLC it deserves. Although it is advertised to make water when the relative humidity is above 35%, I have found it works best when the relative humidity is 45% or above. The EcoloBlue Model 30 is much more than a "water cooler". I consider it a way for people to make their own water, in the event of natural or manmade emergency. We all need to take care of ourselves so that we can take care of others, especially during times of crisis.

Sprite HM8-BN Pure Mist 8-Spray Functions Filtered Shower Handle

Sprite HM8-BN Pure Mist 8-Spray Functions Filtered Shower Handle -Brushed Nickel
  • Manufactured to the Highest Quality Available.
  • Design is stylish and innovative. Satisfaction Ensured.

I purchased this thinking it might filter out whatever was causing a chalky film on my tub and tile. Had I read the info more thoroughly, I would have realized that this not so. It is intended to filter only chlorine. Tried it anyway. The handle/head is a bit heavy as it houses the filter. Works fine as a shower head, but didn''t do anything to alleviate the film that was left on the tiles. The hose is longer than on the unit I was replacing and kept getting hung up on the water nozzle and turning up the temperature! I ended up going back to the regular hand-held shower head that we had and will use this one (minus the filter, which makes it heavy) in our other shower, which is larger and can handle the longer hose.

Bought for my Jupiter Melody, works perfect. I was nervous at first because it looked like a different shape, but it''s because you have to take off a piece at the top to make it compatible (I don''t remember having to do that before?).

Was exactly what I expected & fits my machine perfectly for a lower price than I was paying before.

Sebo G1 Essential Upright Vacuum Cleaner Save 43% Off

Sebo G1 Essential Upright Vacuum CleanerI have owned this vacuum for 6 years, after turning in a Kenmore upright that was a piece of heavy junk I had owned for 2 years. I purchased the vacuum at a local store, and can either get filters and bags there, or on line. No problem! I went on a cruise to Bermuda from NY 2 years ago and I saw the ship cleaning crew using the exact same vacuum. It is really light weight, never ever clogs and is powerful, and will not tear up rugs or hurt utility cords when you clean over them. I had a RICCAR for 12 years, prior to the Kenmore, and thought it was the best vacuum, but this beats even the RICCAR.

This is a fantastic hoover which tackles pet fur with ease. Not too heavy to push around. Only negative is trying to get spares ie filters for this machine. I''m still looking unsuccessfully!Anyone have any ideas. I have contacted Sebo and they said they didn''t know this model.

Allergy Machine Air Purification System Save 17% Off

Austin Allergy Machine Air Filter - Black - ALLERGYI have severe chemical sensitivities. I''ve tried almost every filter on the market that is supposed to take fragrances, etc. out of the air, but I''ve found none that lives up to their promises like the ones with the carbon filters by Austin. I have this in my home and it is certainly worth every penny I spent. Any perfumes or other fragrances that enter my home are taken care of pretty efficiently by this. For my 1100 sq. ft. home I keep this one in my bedroom and the Healthmate plus (also by Austin Air) in the living room and together they really keep the air clean. In fact, I usually cannot tell if there is a skunk nearby unless I open a door or a window...and my house is certainly not air tight.

The main difference between this one and the Healthmate Plus is that the Healthmate Plus works the best on chemicals/fragrances in the air where this one is a good all purpose filter that also takes fragrances out of the air. This is why I keep it in my bedroom I have a dust allergy and while the Healthmate Plus is certainly good at taking dust out of the air but we chose the Allergy Machine for my bedroom.

There are three settings, low, medium and high. High is pretty loud, but not an irritating sound; low isn''t too loud, but it is certainly not silent. You don''t hear the motor, rather it is the airflow coming out that makes the sound. It is, what I consider, a gentle "white noise" sound.

It has wheels (they don''t lock) that move very well and I''ve never had one fall off. In fact, I find these machines very well made not shabby and I''ve had them for five years. They are made of metal and not plastic and I''ve never had to air one out.

If you buy this for chemical sensitivities make sure it is the one with the carbon zeolite filter. If it is missing that one (and therefore about $100 cheaper) the other filters can become contaminated with fragrances and don''t air out quickly. We accidentally didn''t order the right filter the first time and found out the hard way; after days of airing one out outside with the filter running on full it didn''t improve. We then ordered the carbon zeolite filter and were pleased that my husband didn''t have a hard time taking this apart to replace the filter; it wasn''t completely easy as the filter isn''t really light, but it was certainly doable.

One thing you should do is to vacuum the holes on the outside once in a while because they will start getting a little clogged up with dust after a couple years (or less if you don''t vacuum or dust often).

The filter is good for four years and if you contact the manufacturer before then needing a new one (we use ours ALL the time and so needed to replace ours after three) they will, as of a few months ago at least, prorate a replacement.

Overall, I''m very pleased and would highly recommend this.

I fell for it but it''s absolutely all hype! Machine has all the filters for every possible air problem...bound to make the air cleaner, right? Designed for 360-degree "intake", which sounds good, but I challenge anyone out there to demonstrate the efficiency of it. After reading reviews on lots of air purifiers, saying they do nothing more than make a lot of noise, I believed the hype on this one and paid the high price. Used it for a couple weeks and could not see that it was making any difference, tried to prove that it was. I set the unit, operating on "high", in middle of room with afternoon sun shining through windows. Sunlight illuminated tiny dust particles, not visible otherwise. Observed that the machine had no effect on dust particles in ambient air at all, not even those nearest the unit, except in front of the air outflow. Then lit a candle and held it a foot away from the unit on the side opposite the air outflow, blew the candle out and watched the smoke gently float toward the ceiling. Word of caution: This unit is expensive (your cost) to return in order to get your money refunded.

Austin Air Machine is a great purchase. It is a little bulky. One of the wheels was slightly bent on the frame. There was a sticker on the bottom of the filter that said "hema" filter instead of "hepa" and made me feel like I bought a foreign product or one made by FEMA!!

Saeco Odea Giro Plus Fully Automatic Espresso Machine Save 28% Off

Saeco Odea Giro Plus Fully Automatic Espresso MachineI purchased this machine on the "whole latte love" website. It took a week to arrive via ups ground. Upon arrival it was 100% dead. as soon as you turn it on the alarm light turns on and the machine does not do anything. also the optional filter was missing as well. I called the seller that told me to call Saeco, this is their agreement. I called Saeco (Philips) that issued me a promise for replacement

I received this replacement within less then a week, which is great. Initially they "promised" 10-14 days, but changed that after long phone discussions. the second machine arrived and turned on as promised. It made 5 great espresso shots and after the 5th shot the alarm light turned on (again). Nothing helped besides resetting the machine. Every 3-5 cups I need to reset it for the same reasons. The resetting itself takes about 30-40 seconds, but it is pretty unpleasant to need to do this all the time.

In summary, although it makes a good espresso shot and despite good foaming, I would not buy this one again. I think a machine that needs to be re-set every few cups is pretty unreliable.

Also I tried to publish a negative review about it on the wholelatte art website but they did not publish it. i think they filter negative feedbacks so whatever you read there is most likely unreliable as well.

After owning the Saeco Giro Plus for about a month, here are my observations

Pros:

Great tasting coffee! Very strong without tasting bitter. Rich creme.

Affordable price. Paid $400 from a "club" store.

Relatively quiet compared to my sister''s super-automatic Krups.

Cons:

After installing the water filter, the water storage is pretty low, 3 cups of Americano at most.

Machine is very finicky (will go more in detail later)

The "cup warmer" feature is a joke, only thing it can warm are ice cubes.

Here''s a list of stuff that might cause the warning light to go off.

Solid Warning Light:

Steam knob not turned all the way off (need to click in place)

Water is low (20% full is still considered low, sensor goes by weight it seems)

Drip tray is full

Slow Blinking Warning Light:

Brew group not inserted properly (DON''T hold the Push button when inserting, it should click in)

Grounds bin not inserted (the sensor is finicky, sometimes you need to pull out and push in again)

Fast Blinking Warning Light (hot water dispensing light will also be on):

Machine needs to be primed (while the hot water dispensing light is on turn the steam knob on till the red light goes away)

Don''t forget to rinse the brew unit in hot water (no soap) once a week. This will prevent build up of oils and sludge.

This is a review by a Coffee Fanatic who has owned several machines, including the $8000 industrial version. I had the Vienna Plus for 8 months and decided to give that away to get the Odea Go. It does not matter which model you get, all the Odeas have the same BMW mechanics and design. All work the same way. So I''ll give a comparison for your own judgement.

The Vienna Plus had more water in the dredge drawer.. so much that I first thought the machine was leaking!! Found out that IS the way the machine works.. But the machine was bigger than the Odea, so it had room. I had to clean it out every 6-8 cups made.

The Vienna also allowed me to see the water level, so it was easy to refill.

Now for the ODEA:

Doesn''t matter which model Odea you get, they''re the same build. I was impressed by the BMW-designed mechanics, so I bought it for the sleeker look. Smaller unti fitted well on the small kitchen counter I have.

MAKES STRONGER COFFEE than other models of Saeco that I''ve tried/borrowed/owned/tasted. It''s able to extract more flavor.

PROBLEMS:

1. The water container is smaller than the Vienna. And the tank is hidden, so you can NOT see when it''s time to refill. YOU MUST refill before it''s down to 2 cups left, because the light weight will make the sensor stop working. The sensor is not by water, but by weight of water!

2. The coffee lid can''t be opened while the machine is ON. The other models can. This is weird.. because I used to be able to refill the Vienna while it''s brewing.

3. The dredge drawer needs to be emptied for every 3-4 cups of coffee brewed!! Though it''s not really full, the sensor will not let you brew coffee with water in this drawer!! So you will end up cleaning this every 4 cups max.

4. The drawer can''t be seen, the spills can''t be seen, because of the sleek design, everything is covered. And everything is BLACK, so you can''t see whether you''ve cleaned it very well. Coffee grinds may be hidden in places you can''t see... all gray and black plastic!!

WHEN MY NEW MACHINE WAS 5 WEEKS OLD, THE 3 RED LIGHTS FLASHED QUICKLY which means electrical problems. Turning it off and on did not help. Calling the manufacturer, diagnosed over the phone, and ended up to have to replace it with a new one. IT SIMPLY STOPPED WORKING.

Making the story short: I am now on my third Odea -only because they won''t let me get a different one even if I offered additional money to upgrade. And I''m not about to waste over $600 for a couple of months'' use.

I have tried quite a few machines. This is by far my favorite. Every shot is perfect and the crema is gorgeous too. The panarella wand makes perfect froth of microscopic bubbles. I am a latte fanatic and my lattes are gorgeous. When I was researching this machine, I came across a youtube video of a woman that was comparing frothing and showing how to do it on this machine, and basically saying that this machine sucks. She is an idiot. She seriously does not know how to froth milk with a home machine. Maybe her method (no skill whatsoever) works on an industrial machine. Anyway, don''t pay attention to her if you come across that video. The reason I didn''t give her or any of the negative reviews too much credit is because my sister, who is a personal chef, swears by her Saeco, so I just trusted her. I am really glad I did. A couple of my friends have also bought Saeco machines after using mine. I so prefer my Saeco to the high-end machine we have at work. The shot the other one produces is just as good, but the frothing on the Saeco is substantially superior.

So, a few notes: Yes, the machine is a bit finicky. You do learn quickly what the lights mean when they blink or hold solid or whatever. It takes a bit of just looking up the error message and fixing the issue. The issue is never a big deal. Just clean the dreg container or provide more water (it has a kind of small receptacle). Or, fill up the coffee bean container. But, you have to do stuff like that with every machine, unless you spend $$s to hook one up to a water line or whatever.

Anyway, I have had really good luck with my machine and I would buy another one. And, if it does break down, I would take the effort to find a shop to repair it. I did accidentally drop my panarella wand into the disposal and wrecked it. I called the company and they worked with me to get me the right part for a decent price. Good luck with your decision!!

Well, I finally dumped my $2000 Livia 90 after having this unit in place for a few weeks. My wife just hated the Espresso mess of the big machine and grinder (I never cleaned up). This system is fully contained, no mess at all, and it makes a GREAT Espresso. Don''t miss the Livia 90 at all.

You will not be disappointed, but definitively opt for the GIRO over the GO and get the OptiDose selectable Espresso Dose, it makes a difference to get the ''pull'' YOU like. Adding to the selection of volume on the front knob, is a single, double, triple doser selection adjusting 5-10grams of grinds.

De''Longhi EC155 15 BAR Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Maker Save 40% Off

De''Longhi EC155 15 BAR Pump Espresso and Cappuccino MakerI love espresso, and this little baby makes a great cup. Here are a few points that might be useful for you to know:

Good points:

*It doesn''t take up too much room on the counter and looks nice with it''s silver metal accents.

*The water reservoir is a good size, you can make about 8-10 shots before you need to refill it, which is very easy to do, and there is a clear section behind the basket which shows the water level.

*Fast heat-up time (only about a minute), good frothing wand, no wait time between frothing and brewing (though you do have to wait a little between brewing and frothing).

Be warned:

*Frothing wand is only 3 1/4 inches from the counter top. Not a big deal, I just went and bought a frothing cup that is about that height.

*Distance from grounds basket to tray is only 2 1/2 inches, I usually use a small espresso cup.

*Built-in tamper sucks, buy a good metal one.

*You don''t end up with a nice dry puck, the grounds basket is a watery soup after your espresso is made, so I dump it down the disposal.

*You will end up drinking more espresso than you mean to, it''s that good!

Seriously, I chose this machine after a lot of online researching, and decided on this one based on its outstanding reviews and great price. What led me to it were the reviews of another DeLonghi, the EC140B, which is an older and less attractive model, but had reviews from people who had owned theirs for 6 and 10 years! I''m hoping that this one will have the same longevity.

-----> UPDATE: I''ve now had this machine for 8 months and it started running very slow. I''d been using only distilled water, so I knew it wasn''t a calcification issue, so I looked into it and it turns out machines like this one (no backflushing) need to be cleaned every month or so to remove built up grounds that work their way inside the machine. So I ran some cleaner through it and all this nasty brownish liquid came out, and now it runs great again! So remember people, take good care of your things and they will take good care of you. A lesson I am still learning...

and to answer a question commented on this review, my tamper is 2 inches in diameter.

First, a couple of disclaimers:

1. This is the first pump-driven espresso machine that we have owned.

2. We generally drink cafe Americano, which is an espresso with a little added hot water (or cold water with an iced Americano). We make an occasional cappuccino and have thus used the steam wand, but not extensively.

After doing a cost/benefit analysis in regards to our current cafe Americano habit (~10 per week), we realized that there would be some justification to buying a home unit. We first considered the Breville ESP8XL Cafe Roma Stainless Espresso Maker, but reviewers consistently lamented the unit''s tendency to clog the filter, necessitating time-consuming cleaning. Also, not being completely sure that we would actually use the espresso maker, we balked at the $250 price tag.

We also considered moving up to one of the superautomatico machines that grind, tamp, brew and dispose of the grinds, but we worried about the reliability of technology that had only recently hit the consumer-grade appliances. After reading zillions of reviews, we realized that every mid-priced machine had some glaring flaw and, in the end, we decided to buy an inexpensive pump-driven unit and wait for the technology to catch up before investing a huge chunk of change in an espresso machine. Moving our investigation to low-end espresso makers, we were impressed by the reviews of the DeLonghi EC155 and purchased it from Amazon.

I put off writing a review in order to make sure that the DeLonghi was going to last until we had at least broken even on it. We received it in mid-July and since then it has produced about 200 double shots flawlessly. By my reckoning, that''s about $400 worth of Americanos at the local cafe. Even considering the price of the coffee, we have more than broken even. So, here''s our pros and cons:

PROs

Price--we paid $91.28.

Crema Production--this unit consistently produces a thick layer of delicious crema.

Powerful Stream Wand--Easily froths milk.

Mechanicals--After six months of nearly daily use this mighty-mite works as well as it did the day it arrived.

Easy Cleanup--Filter cleans easily.

CONs

Ergonomics--As other reviewers have noted, there could be a little more room between the area where the cup sits and the output nozzle. Also the steam wand could be longer.

Features--No cup warmer. Not a big deal to us, especially considering the price of the EC155, but it will put off some buyers.

SOME THINGS WE HAVE LEARNED

Using a coffee especially made for espresso, such as Lavazza, produces a much better espresso. Lavazza has the added benefit of allowing you to go for hours without blinking.

Preheating the unit for 15 minutes and warming the cups in the microwave improves the results and experience.

I was always skeptical of expensive espresso machines and wondered why anyone would pay hundreds of dollars for an expensive machine. It turns out that the more expensive and quality machines are "pump-driven" rather than the typical "steam driven" found at your local Wally World and such. A pump driven machine will hit pressures 4-5 times greater than that of a steam driven machine and gets much better extraction from the espresso grinds (better flavor) and are the only machines capable of generating the "chrema" foam at the top of the espresso.

The DelLonghi EC155 is an excellent budget machine found for under $100 that is pump driven. I was happy with my old steam driven Delonghi, but once I received this I realized that I didn''t even know what I was missing. This espresso is as good or better than anything you''ll get in a nice Italian restaurant or at your local Charbucks. The chrema that this thing produced is flat out great (you''ll get a nice 1/4 layer of tasty emulsified foam). The convenience of pulling a single shot is great too, and you really only need the machine to warm up a few minutes before you pull a shot.

The best feature about this machine in my humble opinion is that it is E.S.E certified (easy serve espresso). This means that you can pick up the ESE certified pods from Charbucks or a good online pod retailer and not have to go to the trouble of grinding and tamping. This is a HUGE feature that even some more expensive machines do not have and is what eventually sold me on this unit. Having grown accustomed to the convenience of pod coffee, it was only natural to look for the same thing in my espresso machine. Do note that coffee (senseo style) pods will not work in here as those are much larger than the ESE certified pod. Try a nice blend from Baronet or another find espresso brand and you won''t be sorry.

I highly recommend this machine. In short, it has fantastic features for the money, makes awesome espresso chrema, and it ESE certified for pod use. You will definitely not do any better than this machine for under $100.

This machine is fantastic and after i ordered (over great deliberation) and received mine, I could not wait to review this and rebuke other reviewers who clearly have trouble following simple directions or have no experience making espresso (point being, don''t go so out of your way to bash something when you are clearly no expert). I was pretty put off by the bad reviews by seemingly well meaning and "intelligent" people. I''ve owned a really good espressso machine and the issues they were describing sounded like the sort of issues one might have if you didn''t know what the heck you were doing. So I gambled ($60 bucks) and got this little thing. It ROCKS.

Here are some tips:

1. It''s all in the grind, grimsy. You still want it slightly grainy about cornmeal but I actually have ground it into virtual powder, just to test it, and this thing still has no problem pumping the hot water through amazing.

2. The level and compression of the coffee grinds are CRUCIAL and I have found, after much use, that the single most important thing, is how hard you twist the "basket" on (no idea why they call it a basket but it''s the thing that holds the coffee). I have found the ultimate way to make this work!!! I figured out the problem that everyone was having:

IN ORDER TO MAKE THIS PRODUCE PERFECT SHOTS WHeRE YOU END UP WITH ROCK HARD LITTLE PUCKS OF SPENT COFFEE AND BEAUTIFUL, CREAMY JET BLACK SHOTS LIKE YOU''RE SUPPOSED TO WITH A GOOD MACHINE:

FILL THE THING WITH COFFEE, PILED WELL ABOVE RIM, TAMP AS HARD AS YOU CAN TO RIM LEVEL

TWIST IT ON FAIRLY FIRM (IT TAKES BOTH HANDS)

THEN TURN IT ON AND THE SECOND YOU SEE A DRIP OF COFFEE COME OUT, TURN IT OFF

ONCE MORE, TWIST THE COFFEE BASKET ON EVEN HARDER YOU WILL FIND IT IWLL MOVE QUITE A BIT.

TURN IT BACK ON, AND IT WILL MAKE A BEAUTIFUL SHOT

This helps settle the grounds a little so you can compress them even more.

What I noticed is that, because this machine is so small and light, it''s really hard to twist the basket on hard enough (the first time) without just yanking the whole thing off the table you have to wrestle like a little piggy! So you just can''t compress the coffee enough and, if you don''t, it won''t pull a good shot and, that''s where this "soupy mess" comes from that everyone complains about. I have it down now and don''t need to do the turn it off and on thing when I twist mine on the first time, it seem fine and there seems to be no diff in the product that comes out. I am strong however so for those of you who may not be able to bear hug their machine as well as i do do the method above.

One thing that might also be happening is, I ONLY use the larger "double shot" coffee basket but the machine comes with a smaller single shot basket. I haven''t even used the smaller basket (because uh, who drinks "one shot" of espresso) and it might actually be a little harder to get the right compression and all that with the smaller basket but honestly, I would exclusively use the double basket, and you will get a richer shot.

I also bought the metal 2 inch tamper that others recommended and I feel I could not be without it now after using for months. You need something hard and shaped like this to really really tamp the coffee in very very hard. I can smash a mountain of coffee down with this thing so it is in fact important.

If you pulled a good shot, you will get a nice, thick, crema (tan foam) with a buckskin or carmel color (this will settle more and more the longer the shot sits there). When you fill your shot glass and turn off machine, the crema should be around 2-3 mm high. If it''s really high (say, half the glass) you probably didn''t tamp it hard enough or your grind is too course. If there is no crema, you didn''t tamp or compress coffe hard enough).

When you pull the basket off to clean it, you should have a hard, fairly dry coffee puck that is slightly resistant to coming out and has to be dug out with a little wooden stick (use chopsticks or similar blunt, wooden device or you wll harm rubber ring inside).

3. You can remove the little silver tray (it''s superfluous and serves no great purpose) and just put a larger cup in the catch basket underneath problem solved for all the whiners who complained about "no room." I love how small the thing is whereas at first I thought "Oh god, it''s a toy." It''s not.

4. My machine seemed to heat up in no time (under 10 minutes) and my shots were scalding hot (I have no idea what to say to those who complained that their coffee didn''t get hot mine would give 3rd degree burns and the cup is far too hot to hold). I admit there seems to be some confusion in the literature about warm up times (15 mins, 30 mins what is it guys?) but I guess it involves the fact that you can preheat it (by actually using it to cycle water only, with no grinds involved) and reduce the actual "ready time" and by practice, this seemed to work (though, again, the instructions actually say "preheat for 15 mins, cycle water...and it should be ready... now wait 30 minutes" what??? This is clearly a typo text left in when it should not have been and as I used to be a technical writer (computer manuals, etc) I can tell you that''s a common mistake typos are eazy to see but sensible text, mistakenly left in is not since it does not at first blanch appear out of accord.

Look, once i was in a hurry, I turned it on (I always turn it on to steam first and make steamed milk, BTW) and 5 min later I made steamed milk and espresso, no problem.

After a full year of use, I routinely wait just 3-5 minutes for warm up but my trick is i always put it to "Steam" because that makes it hotter initially.

5. My steamer doesn''t work, it only makes hot water, whaaaaaa!!! Yes it does, you just havn''t had your cup of joe and you''re still ASLEEP. You have to turn the knob....get ready for it, here it comes...to "STEAM." It does not make steam when the knob is in the "I want espresso" position it makes hot water. Mine makes plenty of steam. The knob doesn''t say STEAM, or, I WANT ESPRESSO, but the little pictogram showing steam blasting out of a nozzzle that suspiciously looks like an espresso steam nozzle should be enough, even for sleepy heads.

This thing also takes the pre-made "pods" of coffee and as far as I am concerned, I would never use something like that. Old school for me, all the way and I guarantee you my shots blow those hugely overpriced poodle pods out of the water.

So, there is a tiny little art to this but it''s not that hard to get it right so long as you know the importance of how hard you tamp it in. Have a little patience or you will be going back there to have teenagers make your $5 cup again which i don''t really mind except I don''t have time to stand in line for 30 minutes.

That''s about it. have used for (over a year) now and it''s awesome.

Want De''Longhi EC155 15 BAR Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Maker Discount?

I really wanted to like this machine, I thought DeLonghi had given us an affordable pump-drive cappuccino maker. And it just isn''t quite.

(n.b. I''m trying to get customer images up. If the technical difficulty goes away please refer to my customer images for visual reference.)

Things to like:

1. Pump drive! So much better than steam pressure machines. It works pretty well too.

2. The espresso comes out very good (though in small amounts, see below). All 3 proper layers are discernable, crema is especially satisfactory.

3. The removable tank is very handy. And large.

4. Price is right, I don''t think there''s a more affordable machine with such quality performance "guts".

These pluses are solid reasons to own this machine.

Why I am returning it:

1. The holder for espresso grounds is WAY too small. There are two of them and the bigger one is less than half the size of any standard equipment. Unless you only ever plan to pull 2oz at a time the espresso will come out weak. I usually pull 2-3 shots minimum and can''t be bothered to pull, empty, and tamp for every 2 oz I want.

2. The frother is so low to the counter that even a small frothing pitcher won''t fit under it. Boo.

3. The wand is so shallow that I cannot properly froth any decent amount of milk since the wand only goes down into the very top of the milk. Also boo. I can''t make milk stretch with this gizmo and it''s one of the reasons I picked this machine.

4. The only thing that fits under the espresso spout is a shot glass or espresso cup. 2 inches of clearance offers no flexibility for pulling into a mug or small pitcher. I could have lived with this if 1-3 were not already problems.

All of these issues, which I consider design flaws, could easily be corrected in a product redesign. The internal works are fine. A taller machine with a longer wand would fix all my problems. As is it takes too long to get coffee I don''t want and there''s always a clean-up mess.

I started with a super-cheap steam drive machine and upgraded to this one expecting an affordable way to take my coffee production to the next level. This machine should be great and instead it''s just frustrating.

If you''re only looking for a small shot in some modest foam and don''t mind some hassle this is a fine machine. I regrettably will be looking for something else.

Dr. Fresh Ultra Sonic Humidifier Winnie The Pooh

Dr. Fresh Disney Pooh HumidifierI like that I can adjust the amount of humidity that comes out of the humidifier. The mist comes out of both Pooh''s ears. It is easy to fill and the kids love it. Great buy. Oh yeah and it is very very quiet. I barely even know it is on. Would buy again.

I ordered this cool mist Ultrasonic humidifier from Amazon about three months ago for my 1 year olds room. It is very cute, and fits his room''s them nicely. I like the way that the steam comes out of Pooh''s ears.

We''ve had this humidifier running constantly and haven''t had any problems yet. It has an automatic shut off for when the water level runs low so that the motor isn''t constantly on when there is no steam to produce (a feature missing on my "adult" one in our master bedroom). I also functions as a night light with the tank lighting up a little large for a night light, but it also has a separate on/off switch so that you can choose whether to light up the room or not.

The only drawback to the humidifier is that the water condenses under pooh, so that when you go to fill the tank, there is a puddle of water on top of it that will slosh off.

The other very minor issue I have is with the butterfly knob, as you have to spin it almost all the way around before you get any appreciable amount of steam they could have done a better job in making it more sensitive. It also actually runs over the green/red on/off LED when you turn it on.

Other than those two complaints, this is a very good unit and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I purchased this humidifier to replace the Relion humidifier in my son''s room. It constantly needed to be cleaned or mold would form, and the thing started leaking all over the place, damaging my son''s new dresser. I looked into so many different humidifiers, and finally decided to go with this Pooh humidifier, and I am glad I did. I use distilled water to fill the tank which is only .76 per gallon at our local Walmart, and a gallon lasts a few days. It''s very easy to keep clean, very low maintenance, and I really like being able to adjust the amount of mist that comes out of Pooh''s ears. I notice a pleasant difference when I walk in my son''s room. The air feels much better. This humidifier is not only cute, but it works very well. I am very pleased with it, and would highly recommend it.

  • 5 Micron

These filters are good quality and do a good job in my Whole House Water Filter. I used to pay almost 3 times the price at local stores for Culligan brand replacement filters. I am glad I switched to these filters instead. They are just as good in Material Quality and Filtration but only cost around $1.25 each in 50 pack. It saves you lots of money to buy this 50 pack. It also helps to have a good supply if you want to change your Filters more often

I was surprised that the Filters they sent were NOT iSpring Brand as described. Instead I received PURENEX Brand.

I''ve been burned a few times by vendors using BAIT AND SWITCH Tactics to sell inferior products so I was concerned.

Normally, they should never Switch Brands without telling you first or stating this in the descriptions.

Fortunately, I am happy with these anyway. I would honestly not hesitate to recommend them.

Airpura Industries R600 Air Purifier 18lbs of Activated Carbon removes 60 of its weight in chemicals gases Save 23% Off

Airpura Industries R600 Air Purifier 18lbs of Activated Carbon removes 60 of its weight in chemicals gasesI''d give the Airpura R600 a 4.5 star rating if I was permitted to use fractional values. At a list price of $600 the Airpura R600 competes in the premium air purifier market with competitors such as IQair, Blueair, Airgle, and a few other manufacturers. The R600 employs three filters: a prefilter than lasts ~1 year and costs ~$35 for a pack of 2, a high grade HEPA filter that lists for $170 and lasts for ~5 years, and an 18 lb activated carbon filter that lists for $200 and lasts ~2 years. At list prices, the cost of filters averages $151.50/ year, but the carbon filter is refillable which allows those willing to go through extra effort to shave a bit off the cost (18 lbs of activated carbon will run in the ballpark of $120). This makes the operating costs of the R600 pretty reasonable compared to its competition; for example, a Blueair 650E has filter costs of $300/year (if using the smokestop filters). Moreover, the included filters, except for the cheap prefilter, will not need replacing for 2 years making the initial purchase price quite reasonable; by comparison, the Blueair filters only last 6 months. The R600 is designed to be a workhorse and has few bells and whistles: it has no remote, no sensors, no automation, no way to monitor filter age, etc.; however, many users will not miss these features. Although it lacks some frills found in other products, this is a solid well-designed machine, with an all metal case and a powerful motor. It does have a continuous dial to adjust the fan speed whereas most competing products only feature 3 or 4 discrete speed settings. 3 casters allow the machine to be easily moved from room to room. At the lowest speed the unit has a noise level of 28 dB when measured at six feet; this is relatively quiet but not "whisper" quiet and it would not make a good choice for a bedroom unit for someone very sensitive to noise. Six feet seems like a large distance to measuring sound levels at; by comparison Blueair reports sound levels at 1 meter, nearly half the distance Airpura uses. Using standard laws for the damping of sound with distance, 28 dB at 6 feet would correspond to 33 dB at 1 meter. When compared to comparably sized air purifiers the R600 is among the quietest and for daytime use the low setting (or even an intermediate setting) will not be at all distracting. On the high setting the noise level is 62 dB, which is very loud, but this would be true of any air purifier putting out 440 cfm of air. Energy usage is reasonable for a unit of this size, ranging from 40 W on low to 120 W on the highest setting. If you are in the market for a high quality air purifier suitable for large rooms, the R600 will meet your needs and do so with very reasonable operating costs. I would have preferred the inclusion of some air quality sensors, even if this raised the price, but was convinced to purchase it anyway due to the excellent filtration capabilities and the low yearly filter costs.

Works great, really scrubs the air nicely. Has a nice solid hum. Needs to be on medium to really start pushing some air. Seriously fresh air.

The Airpura R600 Air Purifier was purchased to remove cigar odor from the house when I entertain. I was looking for something that would sweep the air and remove the smell. It is good looking, but very loud. I had to turn up the volume of the television in order to hear the show. The noise is quite offensive. I thought that it would be quiet, no where in the product description did it give decibel levels or mention how loud it would be. As far as removing the smell of my cigars, I think it fails miserably. The room still smells of cigars the next day, you notice it as soon as you enter the house. I have followed the directons and have the machine running 24 hours a day as stated for maximum effectiveness.

Zud Heavy Duty Cleanser Powder: 16 OZ Save 83% Off

Zud Heavy Duty Cleanser Powder: 16 OZI had stains on my pool tiles for the ten years I have owned my house because I simply could not get rid of them. I tried every single cleanser I could find including, Ajax, Comet, Oxiclean, Goofoff, Brillo Pads, etc. You name it, I tried it. This Zuds cleanser took it right off. It still required elbow grease, but it saved me thousands of dollars (we had already checked into replacing the tiles). I then tried it on toilets rust and scale and it was great. My wife wanted to replace a shower door because we could not get it cleaned, and bingo, it worked. I will never be without this stuff again. Careful during use as the can says don''t mix with chlorine based products. Simply fabulous stuff though.

I have used ZUD for fover 30 years my mother and grandmother also couldn''t live without it!! For about a year I searched for a new can all of the grocery stores in my area stopped carrying ZUD. I decided to do a search online and THANK GOODNESS it still exists!!!

My father-in-law needed a cleaner to wash my deck off with I handed him the ZUD. After a quick scrub my deck was spotless!! He asked me, "what is this ZUD cleaner??!! It is absolutely amazing!!" No joke he has seen it all living on a farm, building boats, etc. and says this is the best cleaner EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(#1 Hall OF FAME REVIEWER)(TOP 10 REVIEWER)I have had back problems for several years and have not been able to scrub my tub. It has been a year since my back surgery, and recently I felt well enough to attend to my tub that badly needed cleaning. I was looking for a powder cleaner as I knew the job ahead of me will be tough. What attracted to me to Zud is the description said not to rub too hard as it does a the job with mild scrubbing, this is important because my back is still pretty fragile.

Zud arrived in a nice large container (photo attached with a pen next to it for size reference). I was disappointed that it did not come with a removable cover, as some other powder cleaners. Once you remove the adhesive strip from the top of the container, you are left with holes wide open. To re-close the container I had to use packing tape. Otherwise you are risking spilling the entire content of the package if the package gets knocked over.

I am attaching the pictures of my tub before and after the cleaning. As you can see the stain is not entirely gone. Improved, but not gone. I worked on the stain for 30 minutes. I started with a mild cloth and gentle rubbing. Then a more stiff brush. And I scrubbed hard. Very hard. For 30 minutes. The good news is that the powder did not scratch the surface of my plastic tub even with hard rubbing, however as you can see the stain is still visible. I plan to repeat the scrubbing again, perhaps the repeated applications will work eventually.

Zud did not work as well as I hoped and certainly light scrubbing was not enough.

ZUD was a miracle. I was living with a hugely, deeply rust-stained bath tub for 3 years (it was in that condition when I bought the place). I think the tub is fiberglass. I tried bleach, which was a big mistake. Over time the bleach slowly added new yellow stains to the orange rust stains that were already there). I tried tilex, comet, baking soda, vinegar, even Tide with bleach alternative -you name it. I thought it was hopeless. What worked a bit was the baking soda, by the way. I just continued to cover the stains up with the biggest tub mat I could find and looked into whether re-finishing the tub was an option. Finally I did some internet research and discovered ZUD. It completely eliminated the stains -ALL the stains -the deep orange rust stains as well as the yellow stains from the bleach -all of which were there for at least 2 years. The tub looks like new!!! I''m pinching myself to make sure it''s real. I could kick myself for not having seriously researched the stains long ago and discovering ZUD.
