Is it PERFECT? of course not, but is IS Darned Good. I gave a 4 ONLY because there were some minor things that could have made it better (Most of which you find on the more expensive units) which seems fair enough, you want more "Gizmo''s" you pay for them. really I should change it to a 5. My experience has been just great.

NEGATIVE THINGS I HAVE READ HERE FROM OTHERS, That Just Don''t Bear Out in First Hand Experience: (I almost didn''t buy this unit because of all the nasty things people wrote)

Maybe the Biggest Gripe is "Oh My, It''s Sooo LOUD"

I frankly have NO IDEA what these people are complaining about. It is Not Totally Silent (Was that expected?) but even just 4-5 feet away from the unit running Full Tilt, Max Everything I have ZERO PROBLEMS holding a normal conversation or watching TV. (Mine sits right Next to my TV and I have not adjusted the volume from what it was before I started using this unit) The "Noise" is NOT Linear in nature. The unit has 3 fan speeds; LOW lets make sound level =1; MED lets call sound level =2-2.5; and Yeah, HIGH/MAX is sound level =5 (as an example) There is a Significant difference between Med and High, BUT As I Said, NO Problems talking or hearing TV even on MAX. (for the record, I just moved here and had not had a humidifier previously, it wasn''t necessary. So This winter season I was WAY LATE buying one and getting started. My house was down to just 15% and I had this unit running MAX Output for a Week as is slowly dragged the humidity levels up. So I am WELL Acquainted with the sound of this device (at it''s worst). Just yesterday i got the house up to 47% and set the humidity dial on the unit to cycle on & off (more on this later). It has been described as Airplane taking off, Hurricane, etc.... Either the fan unit was not set back on the unit properly and it''s vibrating (see "user error") or These people just got a Lemon ? (return it and get a new one) or they are just gripey people who needed SOMETHING Nasty to say, because this thing just IS NOT LOUD.

Next "Water spills all over the floor"

BUNK (period). I suppose if you are some sort of nut job who throws things around and slams things, etc. you MIGHT be able to make a wave or two in there, but the ONLY water I have seen has been the OCCASIONAL (not every time) drop or two, Never a "Puddle" (And I have ALL Hard Wood Floors, so this is a real issue for me) and the "Drops" came from the OUTside of the tanks as a by-product of filling them in my sink. I now keep a kitchen towel next to the area I fill the tanks and give them a quick wipe before walking back to the unit and NO MORE DROPS. *NOW* With All That Said Given that I DO have hard wood floors and a leak of any kind could be a "not good" thing for me I have taken the precaution of buying a plastic bin I am setting the device inside of. It is big enough that IF somehow the whole thing drained the full max water volume out, the bin can hold that and more. Just Good (and cheap) insurance. If you were wondering? One of My FAVORITE Complaints ?? "You have to Refill the water too much" or "It uses too much water"

REALLY ?? Just THINK about this one. You BUY a Humidifier to .... Put Water In Your Air --And You Complain about it Doing EXACTLY what you paid for ?? I mean, was the idea you buy a Big Unit to put LOTS of humidity in the air of a large house --and it runs off a thimble of water for 3 months ??? NO, You would only get a Thimble full of Humidity. I just find this complaint SILLY. It''s Doing it''s Job. On a more practical note, one I have personally been going thru. As discussed above, My house was down to about 15% humidity when I started this unit up. What is More Important was it is NOT JUST THE AIR that is dry. The Walls are dry, the floor, ceiling, furniture, EVERYTHING was Dry, so putting some moisture in the AIR, doesn''t solve your problem, the house just sucks it up and your air is dry again, It Takes Quite a While to raise the humidity level of EVERYTHING in the house up before you can have the unit cycle on & off as it NOW just keeps the Air moist. (As I said About, Mine ran for about a full week 24/7 Full Max to bring the house up to a good level. NOW it is cycling on & off (as of last night) where a refill on those tanks will last longer and I wont be filling them twice a day every day (Yes, I know the math suggests I would have been filling 3 times a day, but it just didn''t turn out that way. It was 2 or just slightly over 2, but I Never filled 3 times in 24 hours, Not from EMPTY TANKS each time at least. There were plenty of 1 Empty tank and the other 1/2, or 2/3rds empty refills. Now that rate has slowed WAY DOWN and I would expect to maybe fill just Once a day. Later on when the Weather gets less dry I can see this unit lasting Several Days on a single fill.

One lady said the tanks were too heavy. said that "A Gallon is too heavy", Well, 1they are 1.5 Gallons each; 2-a Gallon of water weighs 8 pounds and that is the weight of a new born baby -and babies don''t have handles. OK, 1.5 gallons -so thats 12 pounds and we are talking about a 3-4 month old baby now, same thing. Women pick up 3-4 month old babies all the time and they don''t come with handles, Plus they Wiggle. So, REALLY ?? Grocery sacks average more than 8-12 pounds unless you are buying nothing but rice cakes and bread. Again, the ENTIRE IDEA is to put water in the air, stop complaining that it''s bad, because it does its job.

One "Semi-Ledgit" issue was the lack of Digital controls to dial in an exact humidity level.

TRUE, that is part of what I was talking about at the beginning about "Gizmo''s" that were not on this unit, BUT ARE on the more expensive units. Do you Buy a Chevy and say the Chevy is JUNK, because it is Not a Rolls Royce ?? If you want a Rolls, go BUY one. This unit is a Chevy.

However; another complaint was that the lack of the digital controls didn''t allow for setting a reliable humidity level. Again, BUNK. as I said yesterday my house got up to where it was comfortable and (as in the instructions) I turned the humidity dial down until the unit shut off. Then leave it and see what you have. (YES, you need to have a reliable temp/humidity gauge. They sell nice ones on here for like 7 or 8 bucks. This unit didn''t claim to show you the humidity. You can do it by FEEL if you want, or buy the gauge and know. I was shooting for something between 45-50%. I saw 47 on my gauge and set the dial on the unit. In the last 24 hours EVERY TIME I have checked the gauge it is at either 47% or 48%, and I would call that VERY ACCURATE. I''m going to leave it where it is another week or so till we get another cold snap and see if it holds the level. Once I''m convinced it''s right, its time for the Sharpie Pen and put a little Dot or Line on the dial so I can hit the same spot next year. (I''t Not Rocket Science)

You can say you don''t like the color, the wheels are funny, you don''t like the shape, or just say it''s Momma Wears Army Boots, if you feel like saying SOMETHING Nasty, but the Bottom Line is the unit is well priced given its market and features and it does its job very well.

IDEA''S?

I found one Great One; that was every time you fill the tanks and replace them, Pop the Top of this unit and flip the filter over. The top edge of the filter dries out as it works and if left that way will, in time, get crusty with stuff and no longer soak up water as effectively. (like if you tried to flip it over only ONCE in its life span, that second half isn''t going to work as well) I have found that by doing this the filter stays moist and functional and just works better. (It takes an extra 20 seconds, and it''s worth it)

I''m using the bacteriostatic stuff they show as a companion product. Since i have not run it without this stuff I really cant say if it does anything, but it is cheap ($4-$5) and you only use like 1/2 cap full in each tank when you fill the tanks, so it Lasts a long time. What I CAN SAY is I have not had ANY buildup of Funky Stuff in the tanks or reservoir of the unit, and as I said, with the flipping of the filter and this bacteriostatic stuff the filters are still soft and absorbent.

Hope this Helps, I had Concerns when i bought and ended up wishing someone had "Cleared the Air" for me, so I did it for you.

BTW, I have purchased a SECOND Unit and plan to put it in my Upstairs bedroom. (I have no "Noise" Fears) I have a small ultrasonic unit up there now that just isn''t doing the job. by itself it could only raise the air from 15% to 20%. Once I got this big guy put to work downstairs I have seen the humidity slowly rise to between 30% 35% which isn''t bad given it is only the moisture that manages to make it past the heater as it gets circulated upstairs.

First I went cheap and bought a small evaporative unit. The large filter was "permanent", but required occasional decaling and the small pump filter kept getting gummed up. I then purchased a warm mist unit, it worked at first and when required continuous use to barely maintain the proper humidity level. After got my electric bill, I stopped using it. Finally I purchased this unit. Works perfectly, keeps the house at the level I want (45%) and only automatically turn on when needed. The dual water tanks are also nice. I suggest you get a unit rated to at least double your home''s square footage.

I really debated about giving this item three or four start. I decided on four because bottom line it does a good job getting moisture in the air and some design items work well. For instance, it is on wheels so it is easy to move and the water fill containers are manageable. They had the forsight to make two instead of one and the handles are comfortable.

Now for some negatives. At the highest setting, it is still pretty loud. I live in a condo so, if I''m watching TV I usually keep it on the second highest setting or wear headphones and keep it at the highest setting. Here is another noise issuewhen it starts getting empty, a loud humm starts up. Another thing I don''t like is that you can''t control or see what the humidity level isit just kicks out. I think this feature is available on a higher model but it seems like it should be available on this one for the price they are asking.

Probably the biggest issue I have with this unit is that it has a side discharge for air rather than through the top like most units. This is an issue for me because when I watch TV I usually sit on the floor (TV over a fireplace would never work for me) and this unit blows COLD AIR out and it is quite uncomfortable. You could make the argument to move it somewhere else, but for maximum benefit you should keep it where you spend most of your time.

So ther you have it. I probably should give it three stars but it does what its supposed to do wellwith some design issues.

I have had this unit in one of my houses since this past winter, and it is by far the best humidifier I own. It is quiet enough to keep in the bedroom at night, but powerful enough to easily humidify the 1000 square feet comfortably. With adjustable humidity settings, and 2 large tanks that you can fill separately without shutting the unit off make this very easy to use. The only thing that keeps me from 5 stars is it is difficult at time for me to get the filters due to my rural location, and the price is between 12-20 dollars depending on where I get them. Molding can be minimized with the treatment tablets (protec tank tabs) that are available, or the tiny amount of ammonia another person mentioned (if you don''t mind the mild ammonia odor). I have owned 5 different brands from lasko, holmes, honeywell, hunter, and Essick, and this is the best of them all. Overall, a very good value for the extra price.

I have used many different humidifiers over the years ranging from warm mist (higher electric bills, more difficult to clean and maintain), ultrasonic (I had a lot of white dust with these units), and cool mist (medium size units, which all broke over time). Most of them stated large or medium rooms, and would never really get the humidity level up quickly or maintain that level easily throughout the day. This one definitly has the output to do so and has been comparatively quiet compared to the ones i have used prior. The fan blower is actually not a regular fan with blades out (which was on my old model, and was very very loud on the highest output setting), this one is bearable and the fan is more of a wheel fan (i guess that is what they call it) with the blades internal (which makes it quieter and preferred for me). Anyway, the output is great on this if that is what you are looking for and this one actually shuts off when it hits the humidity you set (something my older ones never did, since it never output this much humidity they would always stay on).

The cons to this is the fill tanks, I believe someone else mentioned this as well. They are NOT shaped very well for ease of filling and transportation (and have sharp edges), so becareful when you do fill them cause they get slippery as well and can crack easily if dropped. Another one is the overall size (it is fairly large with wheels to help move around the house if needed), but the size helps this humidifier have one of the highest outputs as well for the price.

Also note, the air blows out cool (since the water is cool) and blow out the sides in almost a full 360 degress through the sides (more like 270 degrees around). so don''t expect the air to blow through the top on this model (like my other units used to do).

Stock up on some wicks as well, not sure how long they will hold up (maybe 1 month each at constant use before needing replacement they say 2-3 months but i dont'' believe them, since mold can grow on them if used too long), I bought 4 for this winter season.

The aluminum portion of the spray bottle is great however, after 2 days of light use the plastic spray part literally broke in my hands. I have since purchased a new spray bottle just for the spray part and still use the aluminum base.

Black & Decker HC100 Home Cafe Single Serve Coffee Brewing System

This coffee maker is perhaps the biggest piece of junk I have ever purchased and I returned it within 24 hours. Where O'' where to begin?

The construction of this appliance is truly a joke. There isn''t a piece of metal in the entire piece. You get a thin piece of aluminum that your mug sits on while it brews...thats it.

The lever that opens the pod holder is very flimsy. And after the initial brew, the unit wouldn''t seal right, which means, no coffee. So you pop the lever up, open the pod, make sure the coffee is seated appropriately and try again. blah, blah, blah. Do this about 5 times and for no apparent reason, it would work again.

Do you like your coffee hot? Well, you won''t get it with this device. Basically, there are 2 components to a great cup of coffee: the beans and the water. The beans have already been taken care of, so all you can control is the water source. If you are using a machine like this, how dare you put tap water in it! My filtered water sits nice and chilled in my refrigerator. Well, thats a problem for this device. The coffee comes out tepid folks. Not even luke warm! I tried it straight from the tap, and it was warmer but not hot. So if you keep filtered water in your fridge, expect tepid coffee. YUCK. I must be old fashioned, I like to blow on my coffee and see the steam rise up from the cup in morning.

The coffee I was able to drink tasted very good. But again, it just wasn''t worth the hassle of messing with that stupid lever and pod configuration.

I''m off to try the Senseo and hope that it is a little better crafted.

I purchased the Home Cafe at our local Walmart. It made really good coffee for nine cups. While brewing the tenth cup, it stopped mid-brew, spit at me, and then emmited a fatal gasp of acrid black smoke. The kitchen smelled of burning bakelite for the next several hours. I calmly packed up the unit and returned it to my friendly Wallyworld. I opted to replace the unit, rather than get my money back as my wife and I really liked the coffee. Grabbing another pack of coffee pods (optimistic me) we transported our new machine home. Again, following the directions by properly initiating the machine with a coffee-pod free whiz, we brewed another couple cups of delicious coffee. All went well. Then, on cup twelve a few days later (easy to keep track with the amount of pods left), again, mid-cup, another fatal gasp and spray of coffee, and silence as smoke curled up from the unit. Again, the rancid odor along with the bleak knowledge that no more delicious coffee would spew forth from this obviously poorly built unit. Head down with sadness and dejection I decided this time to call the 800 number provided in the instruction manual. After 30 minutes on hold I was finally connected to a friendly customer service rep who offered her condolences on the demise of my coffee maker. She took down the information on the deceased pot and said she was going to transfer me to another department where they would formally de-brief me in an attempt to correct the problem. 15 minutes later she came back on the phone and explained that all the "engineers" were busy, but someone would contact me within 24 hours. Three days later I received a phone call stating that no one at Black and Decker had heard of this problem Yeah, right. They were going to send me a brand new one at no expense. They only requested that I return the old one to them, and they would pay the shipping. Eagerly agreeing to these terms, we waited with great anticipation for the Big Brown Truck to pull up to our door. Approximately two weeks later it arrived on our doorstep!! Rushing to the kitchen, the appliance was carefully removed from its box. This time, it was different. What is this? The first two units were black. This one is white!!! Virginal White! Certainly a good sign. Again, the machine was ititiated with its plain water ritual, and then, with great anticipation and celebration, a Columbian Pod, yes, Columbian, was placed in the machine. Shortly thereafter another delicious cup of coffee was enjoyed. Never mind the gentle splatter of coffee on the counter. A mere minor annoyance given the rewards of the brew. As a matter of fact, eight, count them, eight more cups of delicious coffee were enjoyed with minimal splatter. Then, cup number ten was not meant to be. A sputter mid-cup. Arcing sounds from the front of the unit. Thin plumes of black smoke spiraling towards the ceiling. Gag reflex kicking in from the rancid odor. A tear forming in the corner of my eye knowing it was never meant to be. (Actually, the tear was from the smoke). I notified the woman at the other end of the toll-free number. I told her about all three coffee makers. No, I did not want another unit. It is just too much trouble to make ten cups of coffee, call in about the defective unit, wait for a replacement, make ten cups of coffee, call, wait, repeat--------. I guess I''ll try the Senseo. Maybe it will work.

I bought a Senseo about a month ago and I was so impressed that I considered buying another one for the office. However, I got a $10 off coupon in the mail for this unit, plus it was cheaper to start with. So I figured, "What the heck".

I like the fact that you can use a taller cup with this unit and it is better geared towards the US palate than the Senseo (the Senseo defaults to a much smaller water-to-coffee ratio and you end up with something between coffee and espresso unless you brew a double cup.)

I also like the water resevoir on the B&D better than the Senseo. Though I suspect that the double resevoir that Senseo offers would win out over the B&D.

The Home Cafe isn''t as nicely engineered as the Senseo and it does leak when it''s brewing. It seems to be a function of how you place the pod and close it up, but you shouldn''t have to be that picky about placement. It also tends to splash as a result of the height and the way that the water comes out. If you use a taller mug, it''s not much of an issue. But if you use a standard coffee cup, you''ll need a cloth nearby for the tiny drips and splashes. It''s not like it pours gallons of coffee all over the counter, but it is a nuisance factor.

If I didn''t have a choice, I''d buy the Home Cafe and be pretty happy about it. However, having a Senseo at home, I find it difficult to tolerate the little idiosyncrasies of the Home Cafe at work.

I''d personally recommend spending the extra money for the Senseo. The Keurig is also a good option, but it''s significantly more expensive for the machine and for the k-cups. It does produce an exceptional cup of coffee, though.

Now if only all of these guys would get together and use ESE pods instead of these proprietary things we could get all the variety we want and pick the machine that worked best for us.

We tried this, and returned it a week later for the Senseo, which works terrifically so far.

As stated in other reviews, the design is really flimsy plastic and can break easily.

The coffee comes out just hot enough, so unless you are going to drink immediately, it will be cold.

If you do not use a very tall coffee cup, the water jet is so high from the base that the coffee dispensing out hits the bottom of the cup and splashes out, which could burn a person as well as wasting your coffee.

And as others have stated, it is really quite loud in a vibrating noisy way. It starts off somewhat quiet but as the week goes on the noise gets louder with use. It got so loud that I ran in the kitchen and shut off my dishwasher thinking it was malfunctioning only to find that it was the coffee machine making the noise.

Needless to say, we didn''t use it after that and enjoy the Senseo much more. If you really want it, wait a few months until everyone realizes it is a piece of junk and then buy it at Big Lots or another "buy out discount store" for ten dollars, which is more than it is worth.

Right after unpacking it and after performing the initial "dry" brew, I made my first cup. It came out OK although I would have liked it hotter, since after a few zips my coffee was cold.

While opening the lid to replace the used pod to make a second cup, I noticed that one of the pegs from the latch broke, preventing it from making a good seal, thus leaking water from all over.

I''ll have to say that this thing is really flimsy; the latch mechanism is all plastic and it really feels like it. It does not have the sturdy feel that comparable espresso machines have (these single serve coffee makers apparently have a similiar system as the the small pump expresso machines). But in all fairness, these expresso machines are much more expensive ($100-$300) than these new single serve coffee brewers that are in the $60-$70 range.

I went to the store to get a replacement, this time I inspected the competing units from other brands and paid special attention to the latching mechanism. I went with the Philips Senseo because it has a much simpler latching system and looked less prone to breaking. I took it home.

This one brewed hotter coffee, maybe because it has a preheating time of 90 seconds (vs the Home Café which does not).

The Home Café is very convenient (thus my 2 star rating), but I believe there are better options out there.

Bought this filter at my local BJs warehouse store three weeks ago and installed it that same day. My wife and I have been big consumers of Poland Spring bottled water and decided to try this product to cut down on costs and to cut down on usage of plastic, throw-away bottles.

And if, like us, you are or were bottled water consumers, you will see no difference in taste AND see the savings mount up!

After using this product for many months now, I can state I still think this is an excellent buy. We have not had to change the filter even once maybe Jersey City water is not that terrible compared to other places in America. We did have to change the battery once, which I thought a little surprising.

But after reading the negative reviews, I have to wonder: we have had ZERO problems with hot water and drips, unlike what a couple of other reviewers have suggested. Definitely highly recommended.

We have had ours for awhile now and it seems to work pretty good. The biggest selling points were the size of it (it is out of the way when installed) and the design. The lever is strong and smooth and is easy to operate.

The Pur water filters seems to have a hard knob to turn and have a bad design which is in the way and tends to loosen. Also, the indicators on them never seem to ''line up'' all be the same. They start off black then go to white then go to red as the filter is used and approaches its 100 gallon limit lifespan. I have tried several Pur water filters and I don''t think any of the red indicators were ever in the same place.

This Brita is still on nice and tight. No leaks. No complaints. The stream and spray settings are nice to have in addition to the filtered drinking water. The filter itself is quite a bit easier to change than the Pur.

I was skeptical at first, but this is really a great product. The water here in Brooklyn often has a chlorine smell and taste. With this Brita system the water has no odor, is crystal clear and tastes great. It''s too new to have to replace the filter yet, but as the review and instructions say 1 filter is good for a 100 gallons of water (not 300). If you bought a 100 gallons of water it would cost well over $100. I wish I had invested in it sooner.

I purchased a Brita after being a devout pitcher system user for years. I''d had a faucet system from Pur a few years back and it leaked. I was hesitant to go the faucet route again. I figured I''d pay extra for this most expensive Brita model, assuming mechanical integrity.

Here''s my overview:

The installation (to the sink) was easy. The unit has not leaked at all. This is great.

The filter installation is easy. The battery installation was also easy.

I have owned the system for 4 months and replaced 2 filters. The Aquaview display in BJs shows a clearly worn filter needing replacement. This worn filter is shown through the Aquaview window. My own filters look as clean as the day I installed them at the point when the unit indicates yellow and red LED lights. This , by Brita''s own definition, is when you replace your filter.

The cost of these filters is $25 a whack. I would not mind this price if I felt the filter''s proverbial time was up. I''m feeling that I''m replacing good filters. I taste test the water each day. The tap water defintely tastes worse than the Brita water. Noticeable. This gives me confidence the unit is working. The Aquaview feature is supposed to be away to say--Hey look my filter is really dirty, it''s capturing the contaminants I''d drink. My town''s water is dirty. If you leave sheets wet in the washer, you will get a brown tinge.

Why are my filters clean in the Brita unit after two months. The LED says change the filter (RED Light). The aquaview shows me a clean filter to the naked eye. The price of use for these filters is $150 per year, with this red light going off every two months like a clock alarm. Brita is there a chance that the filter is still good, even with your LED light on? Can you let consumers in on this? I realize many contaminants may not make your filter elements dirty, but then why make something called an Aquaview filter, if the view shows a clean filter and I''m throwing away a clean filter.

So fellow consumers, beware! The proof is not in the pudding. Taste alone does not insure that harmful contaminants are not reaching me---this means the system may not be working even on week one. The LED light system, at least in my household, does not correlate even slightly with the naked eye Aquaview condition. My filters look like they could go another month or two without dirtying. This may be testimony to a really good filter. The taste test does not correlate with the Red Light. The water, even with a replace indicator, and a clean view indicator, still tastes better than tap and equivalent to the filter being a day or two old. I would say my filter is still good and Brita has me over replacing good filters but we''re dealing with the world of microbial contaminants---who are they to go liberal on filter conservation. On the other hand it''s a big hit to consumers and environment to be throwing these units away good.

So.......beware on this machine. You will probably, even with a dirty view, find yourself replacing filters sooner than the manufacturer describes. You may find yourself like me and another reviewer on this site, with LED lights going off and filters not looking dirty. I am curious about the New Jersey person who claims they have not changed it yet, seemed like about 6 months. This is disconcerting because the LED light is a timer or volume control and would go off regardless of your Aquaview filters visual condition. 6 months on a filter seems too long though and I''d conjecture you''re getting some bad stuff in your tap.

Brita please provide much greater detail on your website (which doesn''t work tonight for registration or support email.

This machine is easy to propel across carpet and picks up things even in the very corner of its path, which my Hoover never did. I needed a machine that would vacuum both carpet and tile and pick up cat hair. This Bissell Powerglide has power, excellent suction, even for cat hair and is a breeze to operate. The added option of the hepa filter is great the Bissell quieter than the Hoover. I could suggest this vacuum to anyone without any reserve. I was excited to try out this urn through the vine program. I have two of the 100-cup West Bend Urns that I love and use for larger groups but that are too big to use for smaller groups.

***Note to anyone who hasn''t used an urn before--a cup is generally something along the lines of 5-6 ounces of coffee, which is funny to a coffee drinker--that''s a SIP not a cup! My mugs at home are 12-16 ounces, so this urn, which makes "30 5.7oz cups" according to listing, actually makes enough for about 14 12 ounce cups of coffee, or enough for a group of 10-12 people. This makes it a perfect size for a large family or small group gathering.

I like the sleek styling of this urn that doesn''t overwhelm my counter in either size or appearance. Bonus point for being made of a nice, heavy stainless instead of aluminum. I love the double walled insulation as well. The base is sturdy and sits flat on counter instead of on legs and the spigot doesn''t dribble.

As with all of the urns I have owned it takes about 1 minute per cup to brew a full pot of coffee.

The coffee was very hot (yeah!), rich tasting, with no off/bitter taste and the double-walled construction keeps the coffee that way for hours.

The only potential negative I see on this urn is that the handle on the spout seems a little flimsy, but only time will tell if that is so.

I have had good long-term experience with Nesco appliances (some of them are 30+ years old and still going strong) so I have high hopes for the longevity of this urn. I am also pleased with amazon.com''s pricing on this item.

Since there is no way I could possibly drink that much coffee myself, I took it to work with me. Everyone was happy to see it rather than the little coffee maker we had been using. So of course everyone had a comment for this review.

Very nice looking and not very heavy. Makes 30 cups. Easy to use and because of it''s weight, fairly easy to clean.

Day one.... I made 15 cups (a little week because I was unsure of the amount of coffee to use) the machine is so quiet we were unsure if the coffee was done. There''s the little tube on the front where you can view the amount of coffee in the pot, however when we looked at it, it was like tinted water so we didn''t think it was done. After inspecting it and finally trying it, we discovered the coffee was done and this was just some sort of measuring thing. The coffee was weak but good.

Day two..... I made 15 cups again, and this time we were wise to the tube thing, but this time there was condensation in it so we couldn''t see what was going on. But the coffee was done and I had gotten the proper amount of coffee.

This urn stays warm until you turn it off, however it does not burn the coffee. I tastes fresh all day. For 15 cups it took about 20 to 25 minutes to brew.

The only problem we''ve encountered is when there''s about 2 or 3 cups left in the pot, it is hard to dispense. We had to tilt the thing to get the coffee out. I''m not sure if this is the norm for an urn.

But we love our new urn and look forward to many years of use.

Addendum..... After about a week of use this urn ceased to work. I was greatly disappointed, however I did the last resort..... I read the directions. I felt the need to add this because I found that if the urn is left on when there''s maybe a few cups left in the pot, it automatically shuts off. (Duh!) The directions lead you to the reset button (enlightenment!). And if you''re wondering, it isn''t the little red button one expects to find, rather a 1/2 thin piece of metal. Taa-Daa! It worked! But now I keep an eye on the coffee level and shut it off when it''s low.

FACT: 1 Liter = 33.814 US ounces

THEREFORE: 171 / 33.814 = 5.06 liters

So basic math tells you this urn can ONLY HOLD ABOUT 5 liters NOT 6.8, as Amazon is advertising.

UPDATE 12/2/2012:

I now have this item (received it as a gift) and I must say it is pretty wonderful. For the looks and price, nothing I have seen comes close.

Regarding the earlier discrepancy on the capacity I have noticed that IF you use this urn for coffee it can hold only 5.06 liters. This is because the large coffee basket takes up quite a bi of space and you cannot fill the water level above it (well I guess you can if you don''t mind lousy coffee). However if you use this as a hot water urn only (as I do) it can in fact hold the full 6.8 liters! Keep in mind though that the water below the spigot (25-30 ounces) is basically unusable (you can tilt the unit but I wouldn''t recommend it because of hard water deposits that settle at the bottom, plus it''s dangerous).

Here are the pros and cons of this unit as I see them:

Pros:

Very stylish looking shiny stainless steel

Strong build quality (the only thing that seems "cheap" is the spigot but only time will tell)

Large capacity can hold almost 7 liters when used for hot water

950 watts when in boiling mode, 85 watts in warming mode (according to Nesco) it heats water/brews coffee fairly quickly and keeps it very hot (190 degrees F coming out of the spout)

Cons:

Power cord is hardwired into the unit and not detachable like some other water urns. This is a drawback because when you take it to the sink to refill you need to unplug it from the wall every time

and the cord tends to get in the way

Unit makes a LOT of noise when in warming mode like a constant pinging/rattling noise.. to the point I was concerned the unit was malfunctioning. So I contacted Nesco and sent them a video of the noise but their engineering department confirmed this is a "normal" cycling noise the unit makes while the water is being warmed.

While the unit itself is double walled , the lid is not and gets EXTREMELY hot (you can burn yourself if you touch it for too long) I imagine it looses a lot of heat and must be less energy efficient than it could if the lid was double walled so this is a bit disappointing.

The water gauge is not as useful as it could be because when the water level is below the visible point you still have about 60 ounces of water/coffee left which is quite a bit

The unit is about 17.5 inches tall including the knob on the lid. This just fits under my counter top but might not fit with lower cabinets

I have had several Nesco appliances. They are all dependable and great quality.

This Stainless Steel Professional Coffee Urn is excellent. Easy to set up and use. I followed the instructions and washed everything in soapy water first. Next, I ran plain water through a cycle to get rid of any residual ick.

Then, I made an urn of coffee. After adding the desired amount of Cold water and coffee, plug in and turn on. The Red Heating light comes immediately and remains on through brewing. It automatically switches to a Green Keep Warm light to signal the coffee is ready.

The results were delicious and hot. The water is heated higher than my old coffee maker, so the flavor of the coffee releases/develops better. I''m not sure if I explained that correctly but coffee from the Nesco is superior to my old brewer.

The urn is double walled so the coffee stays piping hot for a long time long enough for a casual family dinner of coffee lovers.

A glass gauge on the front shows how much coffee is still in the urn. The serving handle allows you to push it down all the way if you want to fill carafes OR push a little for one cup at a time. The coffee flows without splashing.

I do not know what all is in it, but the active ingredient is citric acid, the same stuff that is in citrus fruit, and it is at the recommended 6% solution. My powdered coffee pot/teapot cleaner is also nothing more than citric acid.

This stuff is great. I bought it primarily for getting rid of hard water stains on our glass shower doors. We have very hard water. Sometimes the landlady is slow to put more salt in the water softener and the result is we have (had) a really bad mineral buildup on the glass shower doors. I tried everything over the years to get it off vinegar, KABOOM, SOS pads, Lime Away you name it, I tried it. Nothing worked. The glass always looked like it was frosted glass instead of clear glass because of the mineral buildup. Until I tried this stuff. More than ten years of mineral buildup from the hard water melted away as if by magic. The buildup on the metal frame dissolved easily but that on the glass doors took repeated applications of the Comet over several hours (mostly letting the stuff soak in). It was worth the effort. For the first time in more than 10 years, the shower doors are clear glass instead of clouded over by hard water buildup. I think now that the old, really hardened on minerals are dissolved, it will be easier to keep the shower doors mineral buildup free by using this product every time I clean the shower.

Reduce Vision Water Filtration Pitcher Save 11% Off

The Reduce Vision Pitcher arrived today and was supposed to replace an old, leaky plastic Brita pitcher. When I took it out of the box I was surprised how thin the stainless steel and how light-weight it was, but I kind of liked that because it meant it wouldn''t be too heavy to lift when fully filled with water.

I carefully hand-washed it first, dried it, soaked and rinsed the filter, filled the pitcher twice, poured the water out immediately each time just like I had done for years with my various Brita pitchers. I then filled it a third time "for real", and left the house for two hours. When I came back I was surprised to notice that the surface below it was soaking wet. I transferred the pitcher to a dry kitchen towel and actually watched how an ever growing puddle started forming immediately: There was an almost invisible tear a few inches to the left of the water level window and about 1 inch up from the bottom. I could feel the spot it was a small dent with tiny horizontal tears.

At first I thought Oh, we received a lemon. Let''s just return and order a new one. My husband took a closer look and we then saw that the problem is with the design (and probably also quality and workmanship it is made in you-know-where) of the pitcher. You see, the bottom is a separate part from the body of the pitcher. One cannot see this from the outside but it is visible when one looks inside the pitcher. Apparently the pitcher''s thin stainless steel material was somehow dented during transport or even manufacturing, which in turn must have created this stress tear along the line where the bottom and the body come together, causing it to leak like crazy.

I cannot recommend this pitcher because of this problem. If the body were actually one piece INCLUDING the bottom, I would still love it and just get a replacement. But the way it is designed, it is only a question of time when a leak would show on a replacement model.

I have never seen stainless steel tearing/cracking like this. The search for a better-than-plastic (Brita-compatible) pitcher continues...

Mine leaks at the bottom of the clear plastic window on the left. I should have purchased at Costco so I could return it to any store instead of having to figure out how to return via mail. I guess that''s the risk you take with buying online.

I bought this because it is the only stainless steel pitcher (in my price range) on the market as far as I know. I''ve used brita and pur pitchers in the past and had few issues with them but since I moved I''ve been trying to avoid plastic kitchenware. I don''t particularly like the idea of consuming water/food that has been sitting in plastic.

While this pitcher is not entirely plastic-free, the majority of it is. There are two plastic "windows" showing the water level (I wish these were glass...) and the handle, filter and lid are entirely made of plastic.

What''s really nice is that the filter is shaped like brita and pur filters so I can buy those filter brand to replace the one that came with this pitcher.

This is quite large, it holds 10 cups of water (compared to a standard pur pitcher that holds 7 cups) but I think it still looks nice on my counter. It is about the width of a gallon of milk and fits perfectly in my fridge door. There is a stainless steel grate just inside the spout so you can use this to serve beverages with ice in them if you remove the plastic filter holder (which is very easy to do!)

So far I am pleased with my pitcher. I wanted to get away from plastic containers and this mostly does the trick. My only concern is that there still seems to be a lot of plastic on it the top part and the part that shows how full it is, but I couldn''t find a better alternative and it''s mostly steel. My other comment is that the steel feels a bit flimsy. This doesn''t seem to be an issu so far though. Wate tastes great. Overall am glad I bought it.

~nearly no plastic(until they make a stainless steel or glass filter we can''t escape plastic 100%)

CONS:

~it sweats like a dehumidifier when it is taken out of the refrigerator

~holds about 8 1/2 cups of water, not the advertised 10, which is a minor complaint. The pitcher holds 10, but at about 81/2 the water stops flowing through the filter.

All in all a great product. I gave it 4 stars just because it''s not 100% plastic free, but it''s a great start!

Had purchased a Bissell Steam & Sweep Hard Floor Cleaner, 46B4 from a local Sears store, but after reading reviews of how the Haan would disinfect in one second rather than 15 seconds we returned the Bissell to purchase the Haan.

Quality of the Haan seems to be much higher than the Bisell. Construction is very solid, and doesn''t feel as flimsy as the Bissell did. When my wife and I were steaming with the Bissell it seemed very heavy, and would flex in the middle of the handle if you were trying to moving it around a lot. The Haan does not show any signs of flex, and seems to be just a higher grade all together. The floor pads are also a much higher quality pad, and hold up a ton better than the cheaper bissell.

The steaming function is also on a whole other level of steaming. The Bissell would just seem to get the floor wet, and wouldn''t produce a ton of steam. Once the Haan is warmed up it steams like crazy. That gives me a better feel of how well it is actually cleaning. The Haan also dries very quickly which I am assuming is because of the higher temperature of the steam. The Haan has a nice attachment so that you can run it on your carpet to disinfect your carpet also.

The sweeping function is the only reason I have given the Haan a 4 star instead of a 5 star rating. The sweeping function on the Bissell seemed to work a little better, and pick up a little more off of the floor.

I brought this primarily to clean my kitchen floors after our toddler started eating solid foods and getting some of them on the floors. With each feeding, there is some food that falls on the ground and it means constant cleaning to keep up.

SWEEPER: It has a good sweeper. Picks up small as well as larger pieces of dried food and other stuff pretty well. Just don''t run this sweeper over wet food as it may get into the brushes. The sweeper switch can be easily turned on or off using your toe.

STEAMER: This was the main reason I purchased this appliance. It starts putting out steam in about 30 seconds. You have to go slowly or multiple times over a surface to properly sanitize it. After cleaning I can feel that the tile is much more cleaner with all shiny/sticky stuff gone. The pads get fully wet after some time of cleaning and once this happens, you have to switch to the extra pad which is also included. Otherwise a wet pad pushes dirt around without doing much cleaning.

You have to keep in mind that this kind of steamer is NOT the magic mop you might be looking for. It sanitizes the floor and also gets most things except dried food from the floor. Many times we have some dried cereal or bits of mashed/pureed food that are tough to get off the floor even within a few hours of drying. I usually steam those areas for about a minute and then run this mop more than a dozen times back and forth to get them off. Works most times but still nothing beats the old fashioned mopping. But the high temperatures produced here ensure that the floor is sanitized; something which helps me as our toddler sometimes picks up stuff from the floor and puts it into his mouth. So this is a good sanitizer but an OK mop.

I also use it to quickly steam my wooden floors once in two weeks and they get real clean. (Careful though, you don''t want to get your wood wet. On a scale of 10 if the speed I use to go over tile is 4, then wood is somewhere around 8. With a faster pace you ensure the woods does not get too wet. The packaging says this can be used to steam wooden floors also.)

COMBO: The sweeper/steamer combo is great as one can finish off both jobs in one pass. The swivel feature is great. When I first got it, it seemed so fluid that I thought I might have a tough time getting it to go where I wanted. But once you get the hang of it, it flows like a symphony and you will enjoy getting in all those places in the exact angles you want. Kind of fun. I hand-wash and air dry the steaming pads. You can also machine wash it if you wish.

Overall a good sweeper and steamer that sanitizes and cleans well, except for dried food which takes so much effort that sometimes its easier to just get on the floor and scrub it off the old fashioned way. I would recommend this appliance to anyone who needs frequent and quick cleaning of their floors. Also recommended for those who like a slow and thorough sanitizing once in a while.

Ordered with high hopes, but this doesn''t quite measure up. An electric broom (most effective on hard floors, no suction for carpet) and a mediocre steamer. I have a dedicated Eureka floor steamer and Miele canister vacuum cleaner, and was looking for something in between for fast cleanups. Not quite one or the other, your experience may vary.

The box states the sweeper can be used on carpet, but this would only be useful for sweeping debris off the surface of a rug or carpet, not any sort of deeper cleaning. The broom part is a motorized beater/brush bar, which sweeps the debris into an up-front, easy-to-remove clear dustpan/bin.

I did like the fact that the steamer has a translucent water bottle, very nice to see contents, so you know when to refill, a feature my Eureka doesn''t have. Alas, the steamer function on this Haan is very lacking; the steam emits from a solitary row of 15-16 vent-holes in the bottom of the unit, in the back of the bus, about two-thirds of the distance, front to back, of the floor plate. It does heat quickly, but this one row of vents isn''t much cleaning power, and certainly isn''t helpful when trying to clean the edges of a room. The included pads seemed sturdy, but I gave this Duo only one try and quickly realized it wasn''t quite what I was looking for.

I''ll keep my Eureka steamer and Miele; cleaning the hard-surface floors in my house will remain a two-step process.

This item may be useful for someone with a very small area to clean, such as a dorm or efficiency apartment, or to keep in a remote location in the house when cleaning a lightly-used area, but for any sort of heavy or thorough cleaning, this just isn''t the sum of its parts.

The Haan HD-60 sweeper and floor steamer is a terrific, intelligently designed product. I use it to sweep and clean the following items in my house:

1) Kitchen and bathroom tile floor

2) Large-area carpets

3) My best area rug that I''ve only had professionally cleaned before

4) Pet stains occasionally made by my aging and forgetful cat

5) Although the product does not claim to clean grout, the grout on my tile floors seems to looks better with each steaming. Maybe the grout will continue to brighten up with continued steamer use(?)

Here''s what I like about the HD-60:

1) The design is very good. I assembled it myself in under a minute. The sweeper, water tank, debris bin, pads and floor rests are all detachable and easy to wash.

2) The steam is very hot and very fast.

3) My house smells so clean after I use the steamer.

4) The unit is compact, light and easy to push around.

5) Sweeping and steaming at the same time saves time and work.

Here''s what might be improved about the HD-60:

1) The steamer head is too wide to fit between the toilet and the wall behind. Haan might want to offer an attachment to steam tight spaces.

I am really liking this HD-60 steamer but am really disappointed by Amazon''s price policy whereby price changes are not honored within 2 weeks of purchase... I mean, I paid $129 just 2 weeks ago and its now down to $99that is so ridiculously steep a price drop that it makes me laugh that if I wanted to return it I could, yet to get a price adjustment is impossible. Something''s seriously wrong with this price policy and after being a prime member for several years the policy ought to be seriously reconsidered

As for the sweeper part of the machine its kind of a wastenot vacuuming prior to using this product is a mistakepushing dust balls around the floor is kind of counterproductive and that renders the sweeper attachment pretty useless. I purchased this version for the swivel feature and I''m really glad I didthe floors look and feel pretty fantastic. In any case at $99 this is a no brainer. 4 stars instead of 5 for sometimes pushing around dust bunnies that were missed by the vacuum.

DeLonghi PAC W130E 13,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner

I admit, I got suckered into buying this unit because of the marketing and slick featureset. What a disappointment.

I am returning it as quickly as possible, and would probably avoid Delonghi products going forward. I was trying to get information on where to buy replacement filters from Delonghi USA (& Canada), the former did not reply to several emails (USA tech support), and the latter the Canadian support email bounced (no such mailbox). What a joke.

PROS:

Really nice & modern color scheme, graphite and silver.

Pretty blue LCD that displays everything you need to know.

Eco-friendly refrigerant

Side handles (because its very heavy)

3M Biosilver Techsystem

CONS:

VERY Noisy sounds like an old dishwasher when cooling in Water to Air mode (swishing noise, I am guessing the rotary engine cooling off using the water).

Water refilling to get optimal cooling (to get 13K BTU) is annoying & frequent (Tested on a very hot day I had to refill it every 6 hours), I would bet that most people would give up on this eventually. Without the water, this unit does 9000 BTU in air cooling.

Huge This thing is only portable due to the casters. Very bulky.

No Oscillating Louvers! The air is blown up in one direction, no choice.

No information on how (part#?) or where to buy the 3M filters that should be replaced once a year.

Heavy Perhaps I''m being picky here, but this thing is so heavy (128 lbs).

What I recommend instead: The Sharp CVP10MX, as most people here (Amazon) have had a great experience with it. I recommend you have a look.

I had a Sharp unit that finally gave out and when searching Amazon I found this new DeLonghi air conditioner with eco-friendly refrigerant. I have always liked DeLonghi products for their stylish looks and this air conditioner is no execption.

I have a metal roof with vaulted ceilings and when it gets hot the upstairs loft gets about 10* hotter than the rest of the house and since this is where I sleep I need some extra comfort. We turn it on around dinner time and put it in the turbo function that uses both water and air cooling to bring the temperature down and then when we get ready for bed we turn it down to the sleep function which is pretty quite for an air conditioner.

I like the easy to read LCD display and the super cooling with the water tank really helps get the room temperature down quickly. This is a solid unit that weighs about 130 pounds so the casters and built in handles help in moving it around. It has all the bells and whistles with 24 hour timer, auto/sleep function, turbo cooling and even dehumidifies. The R410a eco-friendly gas refrigerant was a bonus as I try to do my part to help the enviornment.

I was skeptical about having to add water to this unit, but the level of performance it produces due to this is well worth it. This is now the only unit I leave on during the day for my pets while I''m at work...as long as I leave the doors to the other rooms open, it will keep my entire apartment cool even during the hottest summer days. My other 2 units couldn''t produce the same results in tandem. 100% satisfied with this green machine. Gotta love Italian craftmanship!!! Anyone want to buy one of my old AC''s?

I bought this air conditioner because I own a DeLonghi air conditioner which I bought in 1994, after 17 years, it still works fantastic, I have it in our guest room because it''s a smaller unit but works with water just like this one but the older model with detachable water tank. After the summer season, I really clean it well, de-calcify it and it works tirelessly for 17 summers. I bought a Bosch air conditioner 5 years ago, it''s as heavy this appliance but doesn''t give the perfect cooling effect, it doesn''t work with water just fan, and although it is supposed to cool a 45 sq.m room, it actually can just cool a small room, so it''s now in the bedroom. Believe me, Bosch air conditioner is as loud as a DeLonghi although it works just with fan.

I have this DeLonghi PACW130E in our living room 52 sq.m, it really works wonder even in real hot summer days. I have to admit that it is loud, but I get used to it because it is efficient, it is quiet if the cooling is in the fan mode, so quiet that you hardly hear any noise. I don''t mind filling the tank every 6-8 hours, filling the tank is easy, takes just few minutes. Since I live in Europe, there are stores selling DeLonghi accessories like filter, spare-parts, decalcifying liquid etc... The filter is expensive though.

I gave this one a 4 stars instead of 5 because it is loud. I would recommend this air conditioner to anyone who wants a real cool atmosphere in a hot summer day.

The filter rate is very slow. You have to fill up the pitcher in stages.
