Lasko 1128 9-Gallon Evaporative Recirculating Humidifier Save 20% Off

Lasko 1128 9-Gallon Evaporative Recirculating HumidifierI have the predecessor that was black in color. It''s 3 years old and still works great. Definitely evaporates lots of water into the air. The reservoir must be filled 2 to 3 times per day depending on how often your furnace comes on. It''s somewhat of a chore but I get used to it. Keeping the household humidity at 60% or better surely makes lower thermostat settings tolerable so it''s a money saver in that regard. The unit uses about 100 watts during its intermittent runs.

Mine is so accurate that it is almost perfectly synchronized to furnace operation. Furnace comes on and shortly thereafter the Lasko humidifier starts up. Furnace shuts off and shortly thereafter the humidifier shuts off. I presume the same accuracy is maintained in this newer white model.

These do use disposable paper filters. I use 2 per season. Cheapest source for the filters is direct from Lasko. I bought a box of 10 for $50 right after I bought the humidifier and I''ve got about 5 filters left. Even if you throw away about half of them, you''ll save money compared to single filter prices at brick and mortar stores. The shipping was free at the time. Maybe it still is.

Humidifiers require periodic maintenance. These Lasko''s are no exception. Each year, I sit the thing in the bathtub and fill it''s reservoir with vinegar/water and let it run about 30 minutes. This dissolves or loosens the mineral deposits. After rinsing, I then fill it with a bleach/water solution and let it run about 30 minutes to kill mold spores and dormant bacteria.

That yearly demineralizing/disinfecting is somewhat of a chore but I only have to do it once. That''s enough to get me through the entire heating season.

All humidifiers require some maintenance--even the ones connected directly to your furnace. I''ve read operator''s manuals for most every one of the furnace mounted units and some of the maintenance procedures are complex and labor intensive compared to the little bathtub routine I''ve developed for this Lasko.

When I think I will install a furnace mounted unit I search the internet and read the reviews and realize why I put up with this Lasko cleaning routine. Many of those furnace mounted units require demineralizing and disinfecting just like the Lasko--except that I can put the Lasko in a bathtub and keep the mess contained. If I had to rinse and clean a furnace mounted unit, I''d have to use a wet/dry vac to sop up the spillage all over the basement floor, I''m sure. On top of that mess, it seems that furnace mounted units die at an early age due to mineral deposits that can''t be controlled.

When the temperatures drop to about 15°F or below, our furnace runs a lot. The more the furnace runs the more the Lasko humidifier runs. I''m sure I have to fill the removeable reservoir 3 times a day or more. It seems to be sized so that a full reservoir lasts about 8 hours. That''s enough to get a full night''s sleep. Actually, the removeable reservoir holds about 8 hours worth. There''s another several gallons in the base to supply the unit with water so you can easily stretch it to 12-14 hours between fillings. I do it all the time. It''s just that if you stretch it to 12 hours or more, you''ll have to fill the removable reservoir 1.5 times to completely "fill ''er up" again.

All in all, I don''t think I could live without a humidifier. We feel warmer, the children cough less while sleeping, there''s no static electric sparks when we touch objects or each other ... it''s worth the hassle, I think.

This unit says it will do a 3200 square foot home. I guess that''s so, but, it''s quite nicely sized for homes smaller than that because it won''t have to run on high to do the job. Buying the biggest humidifier means you can run the fan on low so it''s as quiet as possible.

Once a year I also take it apart to clean the dust from the fan blades and the vortex shroud. This isn''t absolutely necessary but it makes it look new again. About 6 or 8 screws removed lets the thing come almost entirely apart for cleaning.

So, a humidifier takes some work no matter what type you get. For a household humidifier, I like this Lasko but I''ve also got a wife and kids to share in the task of refilling it 3 times a day.

I''m a home handy man so I''ll be able to replace the motor in this thing when it goes bad. I don''t think it will cost much.

Lasko sells parts and that''s what I truly love! Unlike other companies, Lasko actually has parts available and they sell them at reasonable prices.

We use Lasko ventilation fans year round as a sleep aide to produce "white noise." I''ve got a remote controlled fan that I''ve come to depend on. After about 4 years of daily night time use, I needed a motor for it last year and, sure enough, Lasko sold one to me and the cost was about 1/3rd that of a new fan.

For the home do-it-yourselfer types, Lasko is the only way to go because they sell parts. Other companies, like Holmes, don''t stock any parts at all. Once the complete Holmes unit comes from Taiwan or Sri Lanka to your store''s shelf, that''s it--you can''t get a part even if it was missing from the package before you bought it.

Lasko has a respectable warranty and they don''t charge a fee. Holmes and other companies like them charge you a fee that they call "handling" just to get a warranty remedy. That "handling" fee is usually 2/3 or more the cost of a new fan. In other words, you have to pay to return the defective item to Holmes, you also have to pay that "handling fee", and then they might send you a replacement. Lasko doesn''t do that. I think that they do require that you ship the item back to them at your cost.

This is a recirculating type of humidifier so it doesn''t throw white dust all over everything. The other type of humidifier uses heat to evaporate water (like a distiller) and in the process, all of the minerals of the water become airborne grey-white dust. I don''t like that idea. These recirculating types just trickle large quantities of water through a paper filter. The filter retains the minerals.

I remember as a kid, about 45 years ago, I used to sit on my grandmother''s floor and enjoy the breeze from a "ottoman" style fan and it had the name "Lasko" on it. I used to think it had something to do with Alaska. I presume it''s the same company--still making fans and things that circulate air.

Our house is so well insulated that the furnace doesn''t run often enough for a furnace-mounted humidifier to work well in our 255 s.f. house. As a result we''ve tried a number of different kinds of portable humidifiers.

The ultrasonics don''t put out enough volume. Nor do the spray mist ones. The warm mist ones have a very high operating cost. For a couple of years we used a wick-and-fan humidifier that had plenty of capacity and ran quietly. The problem was that the wicking filters were expensive ($16 each) and rapidly lost their capacity: a filter that would wick 5 gallons a day was down to 1 gallon a day within two weeks. So even this solution cost us almost $1/day for filter replacements.

The Lasko Recirculating Humidifier seems to have solved this problem: instead of water being wicked up by the filter, the filter is wetted from the top by a little built-in aquarium pump much in the way that furnace-mounted humidifiers work.

We''ve been using this humdifier for three weeks now. It is slightly noisier (even on its lowest setting) than our old one; but the noise is not objectionable, and the volume of water being put out has not decreased at all.

I can''t speak for the longevity of the product, but its operating costs should be very low, and its technology is exactly what I''ve been looking for for years.

This is my second one of these. The first one performed well but quit working after 3 years. It was inexpensive so I bought another one. I bought a cheaper model this time that didn''t have the LED displays the first one had. This one just has a knob with no readout of setting or room humidity. The reason I did that was the LEDs on the first one quit working after about two years. I figured this simpler one would be less likely to fail who knows?

I keep it in the master bathroom and fill it twice a day from the tub. It uses a lot of water which is what I want it to do, but without the convenience of the adjacent tub it would be a pain all these portable ones probably have this problem.

I keep it on the medium fan setting and it seems fairly loud for the first few days but now I''m used to it and I don''t notice it coming on and off.

The area around the unit remains dry so it works well as an evaporative humidifier which is what you want it to do. It puts moisture into the the air, not the floor. I keep it on a bath mat to catch the drops that result from the filling operation.

My bedroom ceiling and wall joints have quit coming apart in the wintertime like they did before I added this humidifier so it does the job well.

For some reason I find many of the 1-star reviews of this product frustrating...almost all of them can/should be attributed to human error and not defects in the device itself.

Yes, if you hold the jug by the one handle water can leak from the valve at the end. Guess what? It has two handles. Use the one at the other end and it doesn''t leak at all....use the top handle only when loading the thing into the unit itself.

Yes the little pictograph at the far end says you press the little spring-loaded lever to fill it at the tap. But the entire lid also unscrews to fill using a larger source (like a bathtub).

If you can fill a glass with tap water and not smell the nastiness within, great. Fill that glass then let the water evaporate from it completely. Repeat. Eventually that glass will smell (and look) REALLY bad from the contaminates left behind by the water. This is the process your humidifier goes through daily on a large scale. This is why they have filters. The nastier your water is, the more you have to change filters and clean the unit; and if your water smells, then there''s absolutely nothing ANY humidifier can do to help you with that problem. If the water rings your toilet or sink drains, you''re going to have problems with any device that is built to evaporate water.

Is it noisy? It can be; it has a big fan that runs to pull the moisture through the filter. It also has 3 speeds and the lowest isn''t objectionable. It also has a humidistat so it will run automatically. No, it doesn''t have a digital gauge and a build in hydrometer, so you will have to buy a hydrometer ($3, walmart) and play it by ear; here''s a hint: Crank it to the max; watch the gauge over the course of a day. Dial back a bit. Repeat until desired humidity level is reached. Why is this is a difficult procedure?

If you find that your humidifier isn''t humidifying your house like you would like it to, instead of spending 10 minutes writing a review on Amazon bashing the unit, spend 5 minutes googling for "humidifier placement" and discovering that placing the unit near a cold-air return will allow it to humidify the entire house instead of just the room its in.

Its built from plastic, not solid oak, so yeah, you don''t want kids playing near it; but there''s a lot of things in my house susceptible to damage from small children. This thing is the least of my worries.

I''ve had this unit for 2 weeks. Its not flawless, but i don''t think its deserving of some of the criticism being delivered here. There''s no such thing as a device that''s immune to operator error. The only thing these people should really be faulting Lasko for is not being able to read their minds or providing a user manual that''s 200 pages thick (which then nobody would read and Lasko would go out of business trying to print).

I''ve only had this for one week, and I came very close to sending it back because of the noise. It is effective in putting water into the air, but the fan is really loud. There are three fan settings, and it''s reasonably quiet at the lowest setting and you can have a normal conversation when near it. At the middle setting I have to raise my voice, and at the high speed I would have to start yelling. At the lowest fan setting, it puts about 2.5 3 gallons of water into the air per day, or about 1/3rd of it''s rated capacity. I''ve decided that 3 gallons per day into the air is enough to be a benefit and I will keep this unit. I plan on only using the lowest fan speed and I leave it in a room where I don''t spend much time.

As another reviewer pointed out, humidifiers are rated in gallons per day of water into the air. The rating has nothing to do with the size of the water storage. This Lasko is rated for 9 gallons per day (using the high fan speed), but storage capacity is 3 gallons plus 1.5 gallons for the refill jug, for 4.5 gallons total. I like the fact that I can have this running continuously while filling up the jug. Since I only run this on low, I only have to fill it once a day, which is great.

There are some design problems with this humidifier. First, the housing is made of flimsy plastic, and seems like it could break easily. This flimsy plastic also forms the mount for the fan and fan housing. The fan on my unit was not centered within the housing, and the fan blades were extremely close to the housing on one side. With the fan on high and sometimes medium speed, the fan blades would hit the housing and make a terrible racket. I was able to loosen the 4 screws that hold the fan and slightly reposition the fan so that no longer happens at any speed. From the other reviews, it seems like a common problem with this model. My comments on the noise above are for the sound level AFTER fixing the mounting problem.

The other design issue I have is with the refill jug. There is a recessed/retractable handle (good), but the shape of the top is rounded, so it will not stand upright on its top. Since the jug is refilled from the bottom, it would be nice if it stood upright. If the handle is retracted, it will stand lopsided on its top however, so this is just a minor annoyance. There is a valve on the bottom of the jug that is only opened when installed in the unit, and when depressed manually while refilling. This spring loaded valve is just plastic mating with plastic, and is not water tight. So if you carry the jug right side up by the handle, water will leak out the valve. It''s not too hard to carry the jug upside down since there is a handle on the bottom too. I just refill and carry upside down, and then turn it right side up while over the reservoir of the unit; it still spills some water if I''m not careful, but it''s acceptable.

There is a little plastic window in the side of the unit that has water trickling down when the fan/pump is on. This is to tell if the water is flowing, and it also makes a pleasant sound; can only hear it with fan low and even then the fan sound dominates. Nice little feature though.

The controls on top are for fan speed (1, 2, 3 and off), plus a humidity level. It shuts off when the humidity reaches the set level, and turns back on when it falls below that level. There is a green led that lights up when the humidity level is met. I tested to make sure this works, but living in dry Colorado, I expect it to be on all the time.

Mine came with 4 casters to make it easier to slide around. They work fine, but I had to press so hard to install one of them that the receptacle (flimsy plastic) cracked slightly.

Shipped out the door quickly (choose the slow cheap delivery method though). Arrived in great condition and were both new as specified. Will most likely use again when I need another pair.

What can you say about a humidifier filter?? Works as well as the original, very satisfied and the price was better on line.

Ordered two brand new filters and they are performing as expected. They came with the water wick which goes above the pad, but beware they fall easily out of the packaging into the shipping box. They wicks should somehow be attached to the filter or otherwise secured in the box. One of the filters was slightly dented but this is not affecting it.

BUNN VPS 12-Cup Pourover Commercial Coffee Brewer, with 3 WarmersI have been trying to get that perfect cup of coffee at home for ever. Now I know how to do it BUY A BUNN VPR/POUROVER COFFEE BREWER and begin enjoying virtually perfect coffee everytime. I don''t claim to understand why, but this machine just makes a better cup of coffee than any other machine I''ve ever tried. (and I''ve tried a lot!) I''m a coffee lover but there was always something about the coffee brewed at home that was''nt quite right. NO MORE. This thing makes 12 cups of outstanding coffee in just about 3 minutes. Of course the right beans and grinding just before brewing is important, but this machine makes a difference. highly reccommended. I like those BUNNS!

I purchased this for our veterinary hospital. I and others were spending lots of money at area coffee shops and I thought we could save money, gas and time if we had our own coffee maker. We love it. We also use it for when we have meetings and seminars at our place of business. I would recommend it highly! Very easy to use. Now the cofee shop experience is a present to myself on days where I can use a brief "vacation".

I have had several Bunn coffee makers in the past, including the one I use every day at home, so I am somewhat familiar with these great machines. I retired from the Army last month and signed on as a Family Support Leader, mostly because the coffee was BAD and I wanted to improve it for my Soldiers. I purchased the Bunn and took it in. What a difference it made for the Soldiers!!! All I heard the entire time was how fast the fresh coffee was made and how hot and good the coffee was. Thanks again!!!!

I love the Bunn products! I even have a Bunn coffee pot in my house!

This coffee pot has a couple small things I do not care for.

#1 The lid where you pour water into leaks water onto top of machine every time it''s opened.

Poor design! It should be twice as big so you don''t pour water every where also.

#2 There is a 30 second delay before coffee begins to come thru filter. I''ve never seen this before, usually it''s instantaneous. Some people end up pouring more water in & then you have a mess!

Other than those things, it''s a great machine.

Cuisinart DGB500BK Grind & Brew

Cuisinart DGB-500 Grind & Brew, WhiteI''ve been using this coffeemaker daily for about 9 months. I''m not completely satisfied with it.

The positive: It does what it''s supposed to do, most of the time.

Cons:

It''s a real pain to clean. There are six parts to clean after every pot of coffee. The worst is the two-piece grinder assembly. Due to the complete absence of venting and valving, by the end of the brew the entire grinder assembly is soaking wet from condensed water vapor. This means it is coated with a fine mud of pulverized coffee. The grinder assembly has plenty of annoying nooks and crannies; cleaning it means standing there with a few paper towels, jamming them into the crevices to get the old coffee out. After that, you have to clean the filter holder, the filter holder lid, the pot itself, and the pot lid. The pot lid is annoying, requiring two hands to remove I usually drop it once a day or so.

Fit and finish. Once you''ve passed the plastic parts through the dishwasher once, they never fit quite right again. About once a month, the filter holder pops out during brewing, spilling hot coffee all over my kitchen counter and floor; the cleanup from this invariably scatters wet grounds everywhere.

The machine ships with one tiny charcoal filter. Once it''s done, where do you get another one? I don''t bother; I just use Brita-filtered water to begin with.

The hot water jets out onto one spot, drilling a hole in the grounds, and then quickly fills up the flat-bottomed filter holder, floating the grounds and making a soup which then slowly drains. This isn''t the optimal way to extract coffee.

Bottom line it does what it''s supposed to, most of the time. Bad design, however, shows itself in the areas of cleaning, brewing, and operation (including occasional kitchen disasters.) I''m in the market for a different unit.

After being a long term Krups owner (my Krups carafe broke after 12 yrs of dutiful service), I recently purchased a 12 cup Cuisinart Grind & Brew. I always thought my old 10 cup Krups made a decent cup of coffee when using freshly ground beans. I initially shopped for a replacement Krups.

To me, the newer Krups models seemed flimsier than my 12 yr old model. The round carafe seemed problematic (and i''ve read that it is problematic.)

So I eyed the Cuisinart. I selected this Grind and Brew model because i was tired of getting coffee grounds all over my floor every day. It was a terrific decision.

Cuisinart has made the total "set it and forget it machine." At night I put my whole beans in with water that Cuisinart kindly filters and in the morning I get a fantastic cup of coffee.

I ONLY MENTION THIS ONE POINT: The machine has a "1-4" cup setting that will make sure the coffee is HOT when making small amounts. The manual says use this feature when making 4 or less cups. I use this feature every day when brewing my regular 6 cups. The coffee is and stays piping hot.

The machine seems to have many parts but it''s quite easy to clean. The charcoal filter in the water reserve is a plus. And the automatic shut off can be adjusted 1 4 hours.

The manual is easy to read and understand. I''m completely "machine phobic" but found the Cuisinart Grind and Brew easy to program, operate and clean.

I''ve used this machine for several events so far and have gotten rave reviews for taste and quality of the coffee.

I hope to have this machine longer than my Krups!! I LOVE IT.

Buy Cuisinart DGB500BK Grind & Brew Now

This is a great machine if you enjoy weak coffee. My wife prefers a strong cup however, and she seems barely satisfied with the results I am getting by filling the hamper with dark-roasted beans to make only eight cups of coffee. In theory you can make 12 cups of coffee with this machine, but they are 12 rather weak cups, which is fine for many people, myself included.

There is a bit more cleaning involved in setting this contraption up every night to produce freshly ground beans in the morning than there is when you grind your own beans the night before. Although I am not a particularly fastidious person I find I enjoy the process however. At the risk of stating the obvious: the reason you buy this machine is so the grinding happens automatically immediately before the coffee is brewed, first thing in the morning, before you''ve had your first cup of coffee. If that isn''t worth a little extra effort each evening before going to bed, or if you don''t mind getting up and grinding beans and brewing your coffee first thing in the morning, then there is no reason to buy a "grind and brew" machine in the first place.

You certainly would not want to buy this coffee maker for use in an office kitchen, for example, or anywhere else where you might want to make more than just one pot early in the morning.

We''ve owned this machine for about 1 1/2yrs and bought them as gifts for two couples last fall. Having run this same coffeemaker over 400+ times, I would like to rebut some of the complaints often seen here.

[Electrical problems} None of us have ever had or heard of the hot plate problems I saw mentioned. It could have been damaged at any point of the shipping & handling process. As for the "friend" having the exact same problem, if the problem is so prevalent then why are they getting a new replacement from Quisinart?

[Cleaning] I hate to break the shocking news but..... you do have to clean your coffee maker. Yes this unit has a few extra parts. That''s because it has more functions, which is the reason we bought them in the first place. Every part is removable or accessible and therefore, cleanable. One reviewer in particular complained vehemently about the cleaning and then mentioned switching to a vacuum pot which has even more parts than a grind & brew!?

[Components] One most often mentioned is the slide out filter basket. It is on a rail system that can get gunked up when moisture and bean dust combine. So here''s a simple solution: vegetable oil and a Q-Tip. Apply it to the rails and voila! It slides out like a dream for 1 1/2yrs and counting.

The reasonable price, extra features & functions and its space saving design make for a sensible choice if a grind & brew machine is what you are in the market for. If a coffeehouse quality cup of coffee is what you want, you''ll have it.

I just get the feeling alot of people are just too busy to be bothered by having to clean and maintain. If that''s the case and you were smart enough to research first, don''t but it.

I carefully read all the Amazon reviews for this machine before I purchased it last month. I was sold on the grind & brew concept and I ignored the complaints that the grinder was hard to clean and also produced a mess that was the result of the steam getting back up into the grinder. I wish I paid attention!

After one month, I am returning the machine to Bed, Bath & Beyond tomorrow. I faithfully cleaned the coffee maker every night but was unable to effectively clean out the mechanism that releases the basket. After just a few weeks, the coffee mess clogged up the drawer slides, making it almost impossible to get the coffee basket out. I read in other reviews here of people using steak knives to try to clean it out, since the mnufacturer failed to make this job easy. This is an inherent design flaw in the coffee maker and it should be pulled from the market. I emailed Cuisinart about this problem and they have failed to respond. I did look into the Melitta Mill & Brew coffee maker, and according to the Amazon reviews this problem is not evident. In fact, most of the reviews there are 5 stars.

I just ordered the Melitta Mill & Brew tonight and it looks promising that I will not have the same nightmare I experienced with Cuisinart. Heed my words, you will regret buying this model!

Waterpik ECO 563 EcoFlow 5-Mode Water Saving Handheld Shower Save 29% Off

Waterpik ECO 563 EcoFlow 5-Mode Water Saving Handheld Shower, Chrome
  • Water saving head saves up to one gallon of water a minute
  • Features 5 powerful spray settings
  • Exclusive fingertip pause control
  • Pays for itself in 6 months
  • Advanced AptiFlow Technology

Since reviews of similar, but different products are being grouped together on this web page, I am reviewing the Waterpik ECO 563 EcoFlow 5-Mode Water Saving Handheld Shower, Chrome.

This review is pretty long. Here is the bottom line:

Pros

You''re going to get a nice flow from this shower head.

It will be easy to install (if you follow the directions)

It will save you money and cut down on water consumption.

It is plastic, which is not a bad thing. I''ll explain later.

It comes with a lifetime warranty from Waterpik. KEEP THE RECEIPT and you can count on Waterpik to replace any parts that may wear out over time.

Cons

No cons. It''s a very, very good solution, not a perfect solution. Any other proposed in these reviews (Oxygenics 90827, Earth Massage 1.5 GPM) get their share of bad press as well. Even the high-end Moen Revolution has its detractors. With something as personal as a shower, it is going to be almost impossible to please everyone.

I almost didn''t buy this thing because of the bad reviews, but reading between the lines, it seemed like this product DID work if installed correctly. Most of the complaints were about

Taste in material (plastic versus metal)

Water pressure

Installation issues

And, most importantly...

What constitutes a "good" shower?

This product was easy to install, well built and it does what it says-it cuts the water consumption of your shower by up to half. It may not be the luxurious experience one might get from a metal shower head that costs $200, but it provides a very good shower.

Installation:

If you READ THE DIRECTIONS, this shower head is EASY to install and is very well designed for the Do-It-Yourself type.

Read the instructions first, then install.

Take a close look as you disassemble (required for installation) and reassemble. This will cut down on confusion of how the parts go together.

Don''t use Teflon tape.

Don''t use a wrench. There is a wrench mentioned as a tool you might need, but this is for REMOVING YOUR OLD SHOWER HEAD.

Plumbing skill is not needed, but mechanical aptitude doesn''t hurt.

Keep the receipt and you are set for life if anything from the hose to the head to the arm wears out. They will send a replacement in just a few days. The warranty cannot be honored without proof of purchase, which is the receipt from the place you bought it from.

From here on out, I''m going to address some of the reviews that almost dissuaded me from this purchase. I''m glad they didn''t.

Materials:

From Carolyn H. Heinz

"First, it''s plastic. We couldn''t tell that from the box, or I wouldn''t have bought it on those grounds alone. That meant we couldn''t screw the parts tightly together enough to prevent an annoying leak where the coil attaches to the hand-held piece."

My reply:

Plastic is well suited for a hand held shower head because

1. It doesn''t rust

2. Less dense: if you drop metal on your bare toes you will appreciate this. Also won''t chip tile.

3. Plastic threading can be hand tightened and work. This is better for amateur plumbers like me.

4. Over-tightened metal parts can make subsequent cleaning or repairs difficult to accomplish.

From "bevhealthnut"

"The little insert that reduces the flow is plain terrible."

My reply:

I could be wrong, and bev, if I am please forgive me, but out of the package there are white plastic covers just inside both ends of the hose that you need to remove before installation. If someone did not remove these, they would cut the water flow down to almost ZERO, but of course they are not the mechanism meant to cut flow which is (a inside the shower head and (b)inside the arm. As hard to believe as it might be, that sounds like what might have happened in this case. The other mechanisms would not cut water flow that much.

From Jon M.

"The cradle that holds the shower head only holds the very bottom of the handle and is very unsturdy."

My reply:

I thought this was going to be true too at first, but there is a little rubber nub that holds the handle tightly in place. This is a very solid design. The shower head has not fallen out of its cradle once and the ball joint is very adjustable. I have found it to be very sturdy.

By the way, I am 6''1" and the pipe that comes out of the wall for the shower is about 6'' up in a 3''X 3'' stall. I have had no problem with the height of this unit. Everyone else in my family is less than 5''5" and they have also had no problems.

From Han Dougall

"The hose, which is made out of plastic as well, is so stiff it adds to the head wobble problem"

My reply:

I thought the hose was stiff out of the box, but once I ran water through it, I found the whole assembly well balanced and stable. Within seconds of installation, I watched as this issue was resolved, to my relief, because I was thinking about this review as I pulled the hose out of the packaging.

Metal hoses are fine, but the hose alone can cost more than this shower head.

I have had ZERO problems with twisting or crimping of the hose or a wobbly head.

From Ladybug

"The tab used to change the water settings is very difficult to turn, the "pause" feature only slightly decreases the flow, it was a pain to install, and worst of all-this product KILLED the water pressure in our shower!"

My Reply:

I can do it with one hand. I did not find it difficult at all to change between the 5 settings. The settings are nice.

The ecoflow mode or "PAUSE" cuts the already reduced flow by almost half. It is significant and should save water and is good for lathering up. If I want to completely cut off the water flow, my shower fixtures are modern enough that they allow me to do this with the flip of a faucet handle. The water doesn''t cut off 100% purposely so that it will work with various kinds of water heaters.

I found the water pressure to be fine, but this is a matter of taste. This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where they get low-flow shower heads. No two people will have quite the same definition of what makes a good shower. Is it the gym style with very strong flow that is practically a steam bath? Is it standing under a sun-shower in the great outdoors? Everybody has their own idea of what is ideal. I am left wondering if some of the complaints around this issue are due more to perception than actual water flow.

From L. Mims

"The lower water pressure ends up being offset by the need to take longer showers in order to rinse. The hose has limited flexibility making it subject to minor damage"

1. The construction of the shower head compensates for the lower flow by delivering a stronger stream of water.

2. Again with the hose. It is segmented plastic. I have found the hose to be quite flexible when installed correctly.

In retrospect, the most helpful and realistic reviews I read were by N. Clark and Philster "Philster" who astutely commented on the design ("With fewer parts needing to be joined together, the possibility of leaks is less").

Mine has been installed for about a month. Although I have done a little plumbing around the house, I am not a professional by any means. This thing was EASY to install and no leaks right off the bat.

I think if you follow the instructions and are looking for a water-saving hand-held shower head, then this is a good choice.

This isn''t a luxury item. Again, metal shower heads can cost up to and over $200. A metal hose can cost up to and over $50. Put it together and it could come out to 10 times the cost of the ECO 563. If you want to save water and get a quality shower and save a little money, the ECO 563 will do the trick. If you want a full on deluge (or at least 2.5 gallons per minute which is the legal limit) there are a lot of high flow shower heads out there to chose from.

I''m totally satisfied with my purchase as is every member of my very picky and vocal family. I didn''t buy it at Amazon: the negative reviews made me feel like I needed to see it first to gauge its potential, but don''t feel you have to do the same. Amazon offers this item at the cheapest price. This thing works fine, day in, day out. It feels good in the hand, looks nice, is well designed and easy to install.

I purchased one shower head two months ago to test its performance. Too my surprise, I cannot notice the difference between my old 2.5 gpm shower head and the new 1.5 gpm. My frist experience with low flow shower head was in the 90''s. Those were just mist with restricted water flow. Water was never hot enough. For the Ecoflow, I specially like the water flow control that allows you to save more water depending on you need. It works so great I have purchased another one already.

I have also researched other models as well, like the Labybug. It auto shuts off water once it reaches certain temp. That does save as much water as having the abilty to control water flow while maintaining the same temperture.

In summary, if you want to save water and not compromising on the shower experience, this is the one.

I purchased this item locally.

While this item does indeed save water, it provided me with the most UNsatisfying shower I have ever had. I understand that reducing the flow of the water is the intended goal, but when you have to shower an extra five minutes just to make sure you are completely rinsed sort of defeats the purpose. I have no water pressure problems, so unless I installed the item incorrectly, then the showerhead is completely to blame. One good thing is that it was very easy to install and I was done in less than five minutes.

As an added note, the "pause" function does not stop the water, it merely reduces the flow a little.

There are other showerheads out there that reduce water flow while still providing an adequate or even above-average shower experience. I previously owned an Oxygenics handheld showerhead that puts the Waterpik to shame. I will be returning this item to the store immediately.

Want Waterpik ECO 563 EcoFlow 5-Mode Water Saving Handheld Shower Discount?

I have never been the first to write a review, so I''ll try o do my best.

Let me start with the packaging. The item comes in the typical plastic anti-theft crap that is hard to open, but after getting the product opened, I threw out the directions (no need to loose my man card on a shower head), took off the old shower head and put his baby on.

The shower quality, or should I say the amount of water you feel on you is O.K. nothing to write home about. Enough pressure to get the shampoo out of the hair.

The most interesting mode is the mist mode. I am not to sure what good a mist is while taking a shower, but if you live in a hot part of the country like the deserts of Arizona, you can use the mist mode to cool ya down, but not really take a shower with. There is so much mist, it is hard to the mist mode off.

To round up this report, all in all the device is O.K. not too impressed. Maybe I''ll be more impressed when the water bill comes in a little lower. According to the Waterpik web site, I should see a savings of $40.00 per month family wide on heating, sewer and water.

Would I recommend this product to a friend or family member? Make sure you purchase the shower head at a location that has a good return policy. It only takes a few minutes to install and a shower to see if you like it, and just a little more time to take back to the store.

This item was purchased locally. I give it two stars because the product may have environmental benefits and it''s easy to install but the overall performance and quality of this item leaves much to be desired considering the cost. If you plan to purchase this item, understand your needs before getting excited about all of the options available with the unit.

As you''ve probably already read, it''s plastic. After 6 weeks of use the plastic bracket that supports the head has cracked off and must be replaced. This unit isn''t for every bathroom. If you''re in an urban setting with cramped space smaller bathtub or shower area I recommend something a little more basic; you probably won''t need or want to use all 5 settings. Furthermore, take some measurements before installing; based on your current plumbing the added bulk of the unit means that your installation may be too low (it doesn''t adjust that well). A taller individual will have issues.

The lower water pressure ends up being offset by the need to take longer showers in order to rinse. The hose has limited flexibility making it subject to minor damage (there are no leaks thus far but a "fold" has developed that could be trouble).

Did I mention that it''s all plastic?

HDE Color Changing LED Shower Head Save 74% Off

HDE Color Changing LED Shower Head - Temperature Sensitive
  • Temperature sensitive LED shower head provides a visual indication of water temperature
  • No batteries are necessary and the energy source is strictly from the water current
  • Material: Chrome coated ABS
  • 3/4" screw diameter fits most standard shower hoses
  • Water flow: Approx 2.5 gallons per minute

When I saw the reviews, I was thinking about not buying this but i decided to try it out. When I tried it out, it worked great. It told me when the water was perfect so that i didn''t have to put my hand in the water every 10 seconds to check the temperature. Two weeks later, the lights stopped working, I started to freak out, but i unscrewed the whole thing and waited a couple of days and put it back on, and it began working great again. Great item but you might have some problems so don''t expect this thing to last forever. :/

The shower head works but I wouldn''t drop it. The plastic outer cover (the one where the water goes through) is loose and the water comes out the sides. I''ll probably have to use glue or Teflon tape to hold it in place.

The head doesn''t look to good but the colors are pretty nice.

After having to buy additional hard ware to install and an additional hanger for the shower head we got it installed. It worked great for about a week or two, then the light stopped working. Great disappointment, seeing as how we had to make the additional changes to our shower to accommodate the shower head. Also, if you aren''t that handy and need good directions and a list of what else you need to make this product work, don''t get this. The directions to install are about 1/2 a page and you can only find the addition pieces after much searching. Definitely would not recommend this to anyone.

The product works as advertised. There''s a slight noise problem, but that''s to be expected when the shower head contains a turbine generator. What I didn''t expect was the low pressure of the water that comes out. Yes, the product text says it does reduce flow a bit, but most shower head manufacturers fix that by mixing in air, or reducing the diameter of the jets in order to keep pressure up. If that was done here, it would be a truly excellent product.

I read the reviews of others, I have to say I did not have their issues. I like it, I have no problems with it. It works just fine, hard to believe at that price. It is really cute. I have had it for more than a month now and everyone in the family thinks it is neat.

I used some teflon tape when I attached my existing hose and had no leaks at all. At first glance I thought the threads could be a little smoother but actually it was no problem at all and I did not do anythng special to the threads. Just screwed it on.

Also the temperature feature where the LED''s change color with the temperature works spot on, as a product development engineer I was tracking that feature.

BestAir ES12 Kenmore 14911 / Emerson HDC-12 Replacement Wick Filterthis item is an exact replacement for the sears humidifier. i would recommend this item to anyone that has an old sears humidifier

This replacement set of filters fits my emerson and essex console humidifier and does a great job of filtering the air. However, it does not wick up much water as the pure paper ones so it defeats the purpose of having a humidifier. Since I replaced these with the stock paper only filter/wicks, I get over twice as much water into the air in 24 hours. I would not recommend these if you want humidity in the air from the humidifier. Look for the accordion paper ones.

  • Drain to RO water ratio is 2:1.For each gallon of clean water, only 2 gallons of water are wasted.
  • Complete system ready for installation, including upscale RO faucet.
  • RO Alkaline Filter
  • Produce perfectly PH-balanced alkaline water; Help minimize the fluctuations of your body''s pH
  • Gives back minerals such as ionized calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium ion.
  • This natural calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium ions can be absorbed 100%by the body.
  • Note: If your water pressure is below 45PSI, we recommend our RO system with built-in booster pump, model #RCC7P-AK.

My old RO filter (with UV) was not working right, even after replacing all the filters. So I was looking for a new RO system with good reviews and decided on 2 systems: Tap Master TMAFC Artesian Full Contact Reverse Osmosis with Alkaline by Perfect Water and iSpring 6-stage with RO Alkaline. The Tap Master had tons of great feedback, but so was iSpring (the non-alkaline model). The only reason why I ended up purchasing iSpring was the price.

DAY 1

The system came in a well packaged box and I found everything easily including some spare parts for future use, which I appreciate. Fittings and pipes were included. All I need was the tools (wrench, scissors, etc) and a Teflon sealer that I got from Home Depot. I noticed a little trace of water and I found out that iSpring did a real test for quality control so that''s a good thing.

Installation was not hard, but it took me 45-60 minutes because I had to make sure that all fittings were tight and I also labeled the in/out just for future references, steps that most people won''t do or not required to get the system up and running. The manual is clear and upon my purchase, the seller emailed me a youtube link that shows how to install it.

Once everything was installed, I ran the water for about 10-20 minutes just to flush the system. I used HM Digital TDS-EZ TDS Water Quality Tester and got 150+ PPM (parts per million) in the beginning, and got better as I continually ran the water within minutes to as low as 20 PPM. I also tested a very popular bottled water that I like, and it showed the same 20 PPM with similar taste, which is great. After about an hour or two, it seems to stay within the 15-45 PPM range.

Note on PPM:

0-50 PPM = ideal water

50-100 PPM = carbon filtered water

100-200 PPM = hard water

200-300 PPM = average tap water

300-400 PPM = high total dissolved solid (TDS)

500 PPM = US EPA''s high contaminant level

I''ve ran it for a few hours now and saw no leak and everything works great. The water quality is crisp and better yet, the Alkaline level is better than just an ordinary RO (alkaline has many benefits and will help you detoxify your body naturally).

DAY 2

Tested the water often and I get 20-40 PPM. Water came with less bubbles.

DAY 3

As of now, the PPM is constantly in the low 20s with very little bubbles. This system runs very quietly and I''ve never heard any noise from it. I will update this review if I see some degradation in quality other than normal wear/tear or scheduled filter change (which is recommended every 6 months for some, 1 year for the other). Overall, I am happy with the quality and most importantly, I have a good, clean and great tasting water again. I will not have any problem recommending this system to anyone.

Buy iSpring 75GPD 6-Stage Reverse Osmosis Alkaline Mineral Water Filter System Now

The six-stage filtration system works well and produces excellent water and taste. It is gratifying to know that our drinking and cooking water is this pure and has the right alkaline pH from the stage six filtration...After installation, I chased leaks for three days and eventually Teflon taped the factory-assembled plastic tubing compression joint threads. If you take the initiative to Teflon tape all tubing compression fitting threads before installation, you will be much happier in the long run. Also make sure tubing ends have tapered sleeve inserts in place--the added-on alkaline filter''s tubing did not have these inserts installed, creating one more nuisance leak. Though the leaks were frustrating and indicated a need for improvement at the manufacturing/assembly level, the lower price, overall quality and clear gains of the system deserved a four-star rating. Hardware is attractive and the sink faucet looks good and works well...Enjoy the clean, safe and affordable water!

Additional information...We purchased the 6-stage R.O. system in March and have really enjoyed the water quality. Recently, our system had an issue, which we discussed with the folks at iSpring/123filters.com. Their resolution of the problem was handled with professionalism and thoroughness, very promptly and to our utmost satisfaction! We continue to recommend this package for its cost, the health benefits of high quality water and the commitment that iSpring has to its customers...

When I unpacked the unit I noticed that one of the elbow fittings was just broken off. That wasn''t a big deal since they included several extra fittings (more than the instructions said there should be) just an annoyance trying to remove a threaded fitting when there is nothing sticking out to grab onto.

After I replaced the fitting I followed the instructions and it was an easy install, but unfortunately half of the threaded fittings were leaking. Most just needed to be tightened one was on so tight it needed to be removed and add some new Teflon tape. The alkalinity filter was probably the most troublesome as far as leaking was concerned.

Once I got all the leaks the until works great, water taste great, and it brings the TDS down from 320 to 23. I would give it 5 starts but having to take apart and redo most of the fitting that where done at the factory was a drag (may-be I got a technician that was in training or having a bad day).

Before purchasing this system I''ve tried some other systems and was disappointed. This system is everything I was looking for. I''ve had it for about 6 months now and I love everything about it. Installation can be done by anyone who can use basic tools. Since I didn''t have much room under the sink I''ve installed my system in the basement directly below kitchen. I would recommend this to everyone.

Prodyne Fruit Infusion 93-Ounce Natural Fruit Flavor Pitcher Save 20% Off

Prodyne Fruit Infusion 93-Ounce Natural Fruit Flavor PitcherI first saw this pitcher when I was looking for the same thing but with an ice core instead of the infusion core (which just happens to be made by the same company). I thought it was a great concept; and since I''m always looking for ways to add more water to my diet (without having to drink plain old ordinary water), I decided to give it a try. I was immediately hooked!

Here are a couple of things that I''ve observed:

Distilled water works best.

Depending upon what type of fruit you use in the core, it can take up to two days (or more) to get a really good infusion. Citrus fruits tend to take longer to infuse than berries.

It''s a good idea to add water to it each time you pour yourself a glass. Two reasons: first, the newly added water will mix with the already-infused water and will take less time to become flavored. If you wait until the pitcher''s mostly empty, it''ll take a while to get a good infusion. Second, a smaller amount of "new" water will take less time to chill than if you were to add a whole bunch of new water.

And here''s a hint: If you make your own lemonade (from scratch), try using orange-infused water to your lemon juice instead of plain, unflavored water. It adds a wonderful touch of "something" that you can''t put your finger on (you KNOW there''s something else in the lemonade, but you just can''t figure out WHAT).

And, lastly, a suggestion: don''t wait for berries to come into season! Just use frozen ones (strawberries, raspberries, mixed berries, etc.) Because they''ve been frozen, they tend to infuse better than fresh ones. I recently used half a package of frozen raspberries. As they thawed they immediately began to turn the water red and by the time they were completely thawed, I had a lovely shade of red raspberry water. Being a "sweetaholic", I add a packet of stevia (AKA Truvia, but I prefer the Whole Foods brand of stevia) to my raspberry water and it tastes like a healthier version of raspberry Kool-Aid!

Let me start off by saying that I have never reviewed on amazon before, but felt compelled after buying this pitcher. I treat every item I own very delicately (I am a very poor grad student) and yet over time this pitcher (which looks much cheaper in person than in the photo) started to develop spider web cracks all along the bottom. Normally I would let this slide, the functionality is present, but when you spend $20 dollars on a pitcher you would hope it would hold up more than a few weeks. Lastly I originally bought this pitcher on amazon, but have since seen it at marshalls for $7.99.

I got this beautiful pitcher to encourage me to drink more water. It works! I fill this pitcher each evening with tap water and put it in the refrigerator, and by next morning I have tasty, subtly fruity, cool water ready to drink. I then leave it out on the counter during the day, to enjoy the eye candy, and to remind me to drink it. The fruit doesn''t have to be changed every day. The instructions say up to a week is okay. I change it every for to five days because I leave it out during the day. So easy to change the fruit, too. Cleaning the pitcher is a breeze. There are no tiny spaces to trap food residue, it is just a pristine clear pitcher to show off your clear water and pretty fruit. I got one for my sister, too, and she loves it. Best of all, the water is great, and so "green". No plastic bottles to recycle, no filters to change and throw away. Just delicious water to enjoy.

Waring PJE401 Juice Extractor, Quite White and Stainless Steel Save 50% Off

Waring PJE401 Juice Extractor, Quite White and Stainless SteelI bought this machine for its power and brand-name quality. It is powerfull indeed and is sturdy in construction. With its centrifugal approach to extracting juices, the machine really gets the juice out until the last drop. I really liked it until I tried putting watermelon in it: the machine grinded the juice shreder plate inside. No more quality and effortless juicing after that. Had the machine replaced thinking it was just the particular unit I had purchased, but it happened again. So, I was left with having to purchase a replacement plate from the manufacturer. This third time I tried grapes, and whamo!...for the third time the machine ruined its plate. At $40.00 a piece it is no joke having to replace the plate a couple of times, plus it is not a good feeling when you don''t know how the machine will react when certain fruits are juiced. After these three incidents, I only use it to extract juices from carrots, apples, and celery...no more grapes or watermelon...in all the machine will do a good job so long it does not encounter a seed in the fruit, else say bye-bye to the plate.

I have used this product for about 2 years now. In terms of quality you are getting your money''s worth. It is a solid industrial device that is not likely to have mechanical or structural problems during an owner''s lifetime.

In terms of use, it is pretty good. Because of the straining action it uses you get significantly more juice per vegetable than any other machine. The only issue I have is with cleanup. It''s not bad per se but you do need the filters to save you 80% of the cleanup without them. Even with the filters though it is damn tricky to get all the fibrous leftovers out of the metal spinner. There is just no simple physical way to get pulp out given the design of the spinner. Having said that we''re talking a minute or two of running this thing under a faucet tilting it back and forth. If they can solve this I''ll give them 5 stars.

Finally it looks good. I just wish they would bring back the blue model that my ex took!

Buy Waring PJE401 Juice Extractor, Quite White and Stainless Steel Now

I''m very happy with the Waring juicer. One reviewer had problems with seeds so I''m careful to remove the seeds from everything that I juice. Other than that, the product works great and is easy to clean. About a dozen optional paper filters are included with the product and they do a great job and are pretty cheap (less than $10 for 200. 5 cents per filter. They are available by mail order and are probably available in large cities). Once you plug the unit in and turn this baby in, the motor quickly revs up to a hum and you simply put the fruit/vegetable in the hole and push down with the plunger. If you''ve never juiced before, buy more fruit/vegetable than you would think that you''d need. Engine takes a while to slow to a stop is my biggest gripe, but I just use the time to let the unit squeeze every last drop out.

I''ve joined the juicer owner cult!

This is a super nice, extremely well-built machine. I would highly recommend it.

I have juiced carrots and apples so far. I see in the other reviews that some people had trouble with vibration but I have not had any trouble at all. I put the carrots in with a hard, uneven motion like the book says, and it seems to work just fine for me.

You do get a slightly higher yield from this machine that from other juicers. But it is not a big difference just very slight.

Everything about this machine says well built. It is sturdy and seems like it will last a long time.

I guess my only complaint would be that you have to buy the citrus attachment at an additional cost and it is a sizable cost. Most other juicers can handle citrus without any extra purchases.

Have been drinking vegetables for maybe 15 years. Started with a cheap machine. It broke right away. Spent over $200 on a very good quality masticating machine. That thing will outlast me. But I found it prohibitively difficult to clean. It made the whole process so laborious that I never used it. So finally I decided to find a good machine that was easy to clean. Let me tell you, this is it. All parts that touch vegetables are stainless steel so they do not stain. The machine really impresses with its build quality. The juice is simply delicious. I now consume many more vegetables per day than would be practical to eat and I feel great. And clean up is rediculously fast and easy. If you use the filter papers [maybe 20 come with it--order more immediately and use them], you don''t scrub and the whole thing is back in place in maybe a minute and a half. Overall I have the idea this machine will last for many, many years. Bravo, Waring, you definitely got this one right!

CRYSTAL QUEST® Whole House Triple 20" x 5.0" Water Filter System

CRYSTAL QUEST® Whole House Triple 20'' x 5.0'' Water Filter SystemI got this a few weeks ago. At first I was very displeased as the water tasted funny. I had to use a britta to drink my pure water. Butttt after a couple of weeks the bad taste was gone. so now I do have clean clean water. I did loose some water pressure but if you saw my unfiltered water you would say it was a good swap.

We have the unit installed while we built our cabin. We also bought ultraviolet sterlizer 6 GPM from Health Faucet Services. We only have to replace the UV lamp once a year. We''re very happy with the water quality delivered.
