This is a replacement filter for a whole house water filter system. The filter is good for 100,000 gallons or 1 year. At the end of the year I began looking for a replacement.

These come in two versions sediment only, and sediment plus chlorine and other filtering, the latter being more expensive. These filters were not easy to find; I assume they''re either uncommon or new. Eventually I found them at various suppliers and also on Amazon.

Amazon''s price was not the lowest. But with Prime 2-day delivery, I bought on Amazon anyway. Delivery was more like 4-5 days, unusual. The filter comes with a separate 1-year timer. Start the timer, and a year later it begins to beep. Replacement of this filter is easy takes 5-10 minutes.

This is a really nice tea pitcher. BUT BUYER BEWARE!!!! This tea pitcher is not suitable for most loose teas. The holes in the tea filter are just simply NOT small enough. They appear small but with most of my teas they end up falling through and so you do NOT end up with a clean pitcher of tea... I have to restrain all my loose teas through a smaller filter. This is such a disappointment as I love the idea of this tea pitcher the fact I can pour boiling water straight into it and then just add ice is awesome. So of course you can put your filtered tea bags in the filter part and then just lift that out when you''re done brewing but I am more of a loose tea lover and wish it worked for that.

Blueair 400 Series Replacement Particle Filter

I was surprised and not happy when I first looked into air purifiers and found the one recommended most often --Blueair--used filters that cost about $50 and had to be replaced every 6 months. That was a few years ago. Since then, I have not begrudged one dime of what I have spent for replacement filters. I have pets that shed, I live in Manhattan on a street that has been worked on constantly, creating lots of airborne dirt, and my building was repointed a couple years ago, providing more of the same. And I have allergies.

But I sleep well every night and wake up without a stuffy nose. These filters work, and so does the purifier-as well as the day I first turned it on. So far it has outlived both the clock radio and a tower fan.

Like the other reviewer, I was a bit taken back by the $50 price of a filter that is supposed to be replaced every 6 months. But I bought the BlueAir 402 anyway.

This is one of those products that truly works! No false hype, no bogus claims. Since I don''t have pets, and nobody smokes in my home, I have found that I can get a year out of a filter without a problem. At the same time, I am impressed at how well this filter performs. The intake side of my 402 air purifier gets dusty the filter does show a darkening over time and the outlet screen of the purifier has *never* needed cleaned. That says a lot about the effectiveness of this filter.

There may be cheaper, and there are systems that use multiple pre-filters to extend the filter life, but there are no better. If you are considering a BlueAir 402 or other model, don''t let the price of this filter turn you away. You ARE getting what you pay for.

I installed this filter in our BlueAir 403 in just two minutes. After removing the old filter and vacuuming out the interior per instructions I slid this new filter in the slot, aligning the arrows as directed. It is a snug, perfect fit which allows for maximum filter efficiency. Although not inexpensive, this filter, and the system in total has vastly improved the air quality in our bedroom. The plastic-wrapped filter was packaged in a rigid cardboard box which was then placed in a large shipping box; there was not a wrinkle in it. BlueAir filters are advertised to be environmentally friendly, decomposing into carbon dioxide and water which was a plus.

PUR CR-5000 Two-Stage Water Pitcher with Flavor Cartridge

For the last few years I have been hooked on those flavored water beverages. I would buy them at my local bulk seller and would drink all of them down in about a week or two. Now, knowing that this was a pricey habit I tried to find another way to get flavored water on the cheap. I tried putting lime juice in my water, it was good but did not have a great taste that I was looking for, I also tried adding some of those sugar free syrups to my water but that effort was fruitless as well. When I was at home one evening I came across the Pur Flavor Pitcher and it all came together. This thing is great it was on sale at my local super market and picked one up for little green. The included flavor, raspberry, is really good, but my favorite is the peach flavor. What is great about this product is that you can adjust the amount of flavor your beverage has so if you feel like sipping a fresh raspberry you can, but I find that just one squirt is just fine. The water by itself is also quite crisp and refreshing compared to my local water that tastes metallic. If this seems worthless, please second guess yourself because it really isn''t. It is a cheap, easy, and delicious way to enjoy an ice cold glass of flavored water without spend a ton on those bottled flavor waters.

the cartridges do not last long enough for the price, even when they function properly. I am on my third cartridge. The first one worked well enough, but it only lasted a few days for my family of three. The second cartridge didn''t work at all. The third cartridge dispenses about half of the time the button is pressed.

A few warnings:

---be prepared to push the flavor button several times to get any flavor at all

---the claim on the package that each cartridge can flavor up to 75 servings is absurdly optimistic

---the cartridge easily becomes dislodged from its resting place during use

---the pitcher must be refilled incessantly, as its filtered water compartment is quite small

---if you try to pour water while there is any water in the unfiltered reservoir, the lid will fall off

The good news is that the taste of the flavor additive is pretty nice, if you''re accustomed to diet beverages.

I was hoping to keep a few water bottles out of the recyling bin or landfill and perhaps save a bit of money while doing so. I''m returning this product. I''ll probably buy something similar in the future if a more reliable model is developed. Great idea, PUR, but poor execution....

This is not a bad concept for a product. In fact, I think now that PUR have made the first step, perhaps other companies (and even PUR themselves) can start improving on it and making it better. However, this particular product is simply not there yet and I do not believe it is worth the full price.

Purified, filtered water is an essential thing in every household. I''ve had a Brita pitcher for a long time, the "Grand" model, and I''ve enjoyed it immensely. I still have it. However, when I saw the new PUR Flavor Options pitcher, I was intrigued. I''ve often wished there was an easy, healthy way to add flavor to water. Sure, there are powders and syrups, but this particular idea, that the flavor is an option right within the pitcher, ready to be dispensed at the push of a button, seemed pretty awesome to me. It just so happened that I had a gift card I could use to purchase it, and so I did.

The first problem that was apparent right away is the size of the pitcher itself. After using the Brita Grand pitcher, which is fairly large and holds up to 10 cups of water, this was a real downgrade. This product is being targeted to families, naturally, but the size of the pitcher simply won''t cut it in a household of more than two people, and even then it''s a bit of a bother because you will have to refill it very often. The shape of it IS very conducive to small households and people who can''t spare any kitchen or fridge space, but for me, personally, the downgrade in size was a big letdown. Granted, this is a problem that was personal to me and I realize I could have known this before buying-it just didn''t dawn on me until I actually owned it just how small this pitcher is, for me. So if you''re looking for a pitcher that will hold a good amount of water, this is not for you. I hope PUR is going to release this product in larger sizes in the future, although from what I''ve seen of PUR, their pitcher variety is already quite limited compared to Brita.

The other problem-and this is a big one-is the flavor. To be quite candid, it''s not very good. Again, this is SUCH a personal issue that some may obviously disagree, but in my experience, which included the raspberry and peach flavors, I was very disappointed. The raspberry was by far the worst-if you don''t put a lot of it in the glass you won''t notice it''s there, but if you put enough of it to actually taste it, it is sour, synthetic, and leaves a nasty taste in your mouth. I can''t stress the aftertaste enough-it is bad. I am very health conscious and care about what goes in my body, and this product tasted so synthetic that I just felt bad swallowing it. It doesn''t really taste too much like raspberry, either. The peach is a LITTLE better but again, it just doesn''t taste right. I didn''t feel like I wanted the flavor in my water. This was a big letdown because I was excited about it before trying it out, and I was hoping it would grow on me, but as I''ve owned this product for a week now I find that I push the flavor button less and less.

SO WHAT SHOULD YOU DO TO DETERMINE FOR YOURSELF WHETHER YOU SHOULD BUY THIS OR NOT?

Simple:

Go to your nearest convenience store. Purchase one of the flavor packets, the ones that go in the pitcher, WITHOUT buying the pitcher. You can buy all three options, or just buy one if you don''t want to waste money. Go home, take out the flavor packet, pour yourself a nice glass of water (hopefully filtered and cold). Then hold the packet facing downward into the glass, and push on the soft rubber surface next to the nozzle. It will squirt out the flavor. You can now try it for yourself as much as you like without shelling out upwards of 30 dollars for the entire product.

I am returning the pitcher tomorrow. If PUR improves upon it, I''ll investigate again. Until then, the size of the pitcher is a problem; the FLAVOR, however, is a disaster.

I came on Amazon knowing that people would be complaining about the flavor dispensing. Why? If you leave the flavor lid DOWN then the flavored liquid collects in the reservoir and you end up wasting a lot of flavor (it collects and solidifies). I ran into that problem early on, but the solution is extremely simple: flip up the lid of the flavor area before you squirt. Then, as you pour, squirt, and all of the flavor will go right in your glass.

This really isn''t the greatest product for kids. They will undoubtedly use way more flavor than is necessary. Nor is it ideal if you have plan on having more than three people rush the fridge for water at the same time. And it is true that the flavor cartridges will not last as long as advertised if you give each glass two more or squirts. Of course, only one squirt is pretty weak compared to typical bottled water. (Then again, I''d say that the bottled stuff is too strong.)

I have to give this three stars because it was poorly engineered, for the aforementioned reason. A simpler solution would have been to skip the flavor reservoir step. You could flip up a cap to get to the button, that way you wouldn''t accidentally push it and get flavor everywhere.

Anyway, once you get it working the flavor is good (raspberry and lemon, anyway, haven''t tried the others), you save money, and your not lugging around cartons of bottles and dealing with extra recyclables.

The filter lasted for 1.5 months and I love how the indicator light went from green to yellow to red so I knew exactly when to change it. The flavor cartridge also lasted about 1.5 months (using 1-2 times a day) and the flavored water is comparable to flavored bottled water. The pitcher fits perfect in our fridge and drinking a pitcher a day gives me my daily allotment of water. Also the water tastes very crisp and clean. Jura 13531 Impressa C5 Fully Automatic Coffee Center Save $0.01 Off

Purchased this machine about three months ago and have been totally pleased with it. Owned a C 1000 and upgraded with the frothXpress PLUS as well.... Easy to program, easy to use and easy to clean. I have been through two cycles of cleaning with the tablets and the cleaning took about half the time the C 1000 took... It uses special Cearly Blue filters.. no discounts on these. They are a standard price and you replace them with every cleaning so there is a little expense with this.

The frothXpress is great and I use it only when I am making a few cappucinos. It comes completely apart and cleans easily.

All in all, I could not be happier. The only thing that coul be better are the initial directions on how to use the machine. Having owned the other one, this one was easier to maneuver. The directions for the frothXpress PLUS are almost non-existent but I found some directions online which helped.

It is a hefty price for a machine but I value good coffee. You will not be disappointed.

This machine was on my wishlist for a long time, but I couldn''t bring myself to drop close to a $1000 on a coffee machine. One day we realized we had alot of AMEX points and could convert them to use on Amazon... voila! 3 days later the machine was sitting on our kitchen counter. It did take a bit of time to setup and get the hang of how to use the frother but once you do the coffee gods will smile down on you.

I held back posting a review until now. Last week the filter needed to be replaced and I ordered the wrong one (it''s not the white filter that shows up as a bundled item with the tablets btw) so we''ve not been able to use the machine for the past week. We went back to using our old Tassimo single cup maker which I used to think brewed a pretty good cup of coffee. After drinking espressos, lattes and regular coffee from the Jura for the past 3 months I''m afraid I''ve been completely spoiled for anything else. This machine has now become an integral part of our daily routine...need to make sure I don''t run out of the filters again!

I have purchase the new Jura-Capresso Impressa C5 before it had been released. So I had to wait for several weeks for its delivery. Once it arrived it took a good couple of hours to read through the manual, (the machine operation is not intuitive). It had all kinds of warnings for grinding: no oily beans, no flavored beans, and so on. (You could grind such beans in separate grinder and use it in the grinded beans compartment. I have not tried this yet). So, I have followed the instructions closely, and for about 5 to 7 days it worked fine. However, one morning, after the first cup of coffee I made, I could not make a second one. (There was no coffee coming out of the spouts). I try different approaches to solve the issue myself, however eventually called the company. The representative had walked me through some steps, basically squandering more and more of my good beans, but was not able to solve the problem. To his credit, once he realized he can not resolve the issue he offered to replace the body of the machine. The way it worked; the company has sent the new body and a label to send the old one back. (I had to remove all the removable parts: water tank, spout for cappuccino, and such) It took about a week for a new one to arrive. On arrival, I have noticed that the spout on the new one did not feet as well as on the old one, but I did tried to froth the milk yet. (I hope it works)

As far as quality of the coffee it makes, it is not bad; it is still not a commercial quality, but the machine makes a creama that is somewhat resembling of a good European café coffee. I have tried several different kinds of beans and came to the conclusion that quality of beans make a bigger difference than the machine itself. (I tried the good beans in the cheap espresso machine and the coffee was almost as good). The best beans I found were at the "Whole Foods" store.

Overall, I think it is way overpriced, and I would not purchase it again.

After 2 months reading reviews and researching online the best coffe maker to buy I decided to try the Jura C5. I read some reviews as the coffee maker wasn''t good preparing hot hot hot espressos I guess this people is crazy and lazy. You have to read the manual before use it if you want hotter coffee just pre warming the cup with the hot water feature, this it takes around 5s... but I''ve never needed to do that and my coffee always as hot as a Starbucks espresso.

I bought this machine to make lattes. I loved it. It''s easy and I can prepare the same cafe mocha that I usually got in a Starbucks. I bought cafe mocha powder and a chocolate syrup from Ghirardelli website and after some cups I know how many spoons and pumps I have to use it...

You can changing the cup size and customized to your personal cup size to keep easier your daily coffee preparation.

My metal tray came with some scratches on I called the customer service and promptly they send me a new one by mailing.

As many people said the cleaning tablets are overprice but you can prepare many cups before replace it: If you brew 10 cups a day you need about one tablet every three weeks and one Clearyl Blue Cartridge per month. The machine indicates when you have to change both.

I am really satisfied with my coffee maker!!!!!

It''s a water bottle. I''ve had mine for 6+ months and does the job of giving me great tasting water. However it''s noisy. after you take a drink as such it creates a vacuum in the bottle. I like my new Bobble and use it every day, but overall it''s pretty flawed. The shape is really nice, and it feels good to drink from. The plastic is pretty soft, but drinking from it in large quantities at a time have caused a couple of dents/creases in the side. When the cap is opened all the way, a whoooole bunch of air comes along with the water you''re drinking. There''s a trick to getting it to flow only water and I dunno if it''s with only mine or what, but it works much better if you only open the cap halfway. This can be pretty cumbersome if you''re on a treadmill or multitasking, though. I can get three big sips and then I have to wait for it to refill with some air; it goes faster if you squeeze it.

Despite everything wrong with it, in the right situations it serves its purpose, and the water tastes pretty great coming from it. That being said I''ll probably try the Rubbermaid filtered water bottle next.

Electrolytic Cleaning Plate Save 20% Off

I was looking for a way to remove EXCESSIVE tarnish from our silverplate tea set, which is decorative only. I am lazy, so using the typical silver creams and foams is a pain...yeah, works fine but a lot of effort and messy.

I was hopeful that this would at least remove some of the tarnish, just to make the job easier. I was stunned at how well it works. Thrilled with the results, and even made the chore kind of fun.

HOWEVER...VERY IMPORTANT! As others have said, you will get good results ONLY by doing the following:

Use BOILING water (I filled the kitchen sink with a potful of boiling water)

Use Arm & Hammer "Super Washing Soda". I found it in the laundry detergent aisle at my grocer. Regular baking soda works just OK; the washing soda is the key.

And of course...be careful because the water is hot!

I added more soda than recommended and think that helped too. Anyway, I''m thrilled with how well this worked.

I tried this item, and am not so sure about the results. My item may have had too much heavy tarnish; but after even half an hour there was no change. I tried using baking soda and even washing soda, both to no avail. I also used just a plain aluminum pan and received the same results as using the plate (the cleaning plate is simply an aluminum plate). If you check online, you will find several websites showing how to remove tarnish by using soda, aluminum foil, or even just a small piece of scrap aluminum. Some people report good results with this method of cleaning silver. It may depend on how its used, and may have other variables.

I bought this to use on around 20 pieces of silver jewelry, some of which were very dull from being a year out of cleaning (but not yellow or brown with severe tarnish). My jewelry included a medium-weight triple-strand snake chain, several pair of dangle earrings, a charm bracelet full of charms, solid hoops, a couple of crosses and a fairly sturdy 1/8" diameter square sided linked chain. I believe all of these are 925.

My results were very iffy.

I used the electrolytic cleaning plate in a glass baking dish in the sink. First note: this is messy, the washing powder will get on the sides of the sink and you will need to scour it. I recommend doing this in a large plastic basin (maybe in a glass dish in a plastic basin).

The electrolytic cleaning plate seemed to work the best in the first 3 or 4 uses, then it seemed to "poop out" with the next batch as it got less tarnish off in the first pass with the next 4 pieces than it did for the first 4. About half the tarnish was removed the first time around, pieces were mostly clean only after several repeats. (I had to use the plate and solution 5 times for some pieces, and I used it 7 times for other pieces). The comments on needing to pour in the hottest boiling water are spot-on, anything less than boiling gets less of a result. Pouring water in with lightweight jewelry pieces is a pain. It sweeps them off the metal plate and you will need to fish in the solution with an implement to move them back on top.

I second the comment about not using for jewelry with stones -I forgot one of my charms on the charm bracelet had 3 marcasites in the corner and they all fell out (now have to take this piece to the jeweler for repair ouch).

Using the silver cleaning plate and washing powder several times as I described finally did create a uniform light silver color but not a shine, even when buffed with a cloth. So, I gave up and resorted to the old standby: silver paste and a soft toothbrush (lots of effort but has always given me great results). Frankly, this took the same amount of effort that it would have taken without the washing powder bath on the metal plate.

I would not buy again -too expensive and results are iffy. PLUS if I had known where to get the DIY information about cleaning silver via electrolysis with aluminum on the internet, I would have done that instead, as I own several aluminum baking pans. If you want to try this method out, do that instead and save your money.

MAYBE if you have an entire drawer of cruddy silver, this method would be worth using for several passes per batch to cut down on the sheer labor of hand polishing them all? Not sure. I''m giving this one star but wish I could give 1/2 or 1/4.

I was given this as a gift, and was hoping it would help me keep up with the silver. We''ve got lots. It says you can use baking soda, but having tried twice (once in a stainless steel sink and once in a ceramic coated Dutch oven) I can testify that it WILL NOT WORK with baking soda. And when I say "will not work" I mean there was absolutely no visible change whatsoever in the silver. My water was, as prescribed, HOT and all pieces of silver were touching the plate. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Bupkus.

Rusco Spin Down Filter, 3/4"

If you''re on well water, this is one product that you really should have--whether or not you have a water softener system, and whether or not you have a chlorine tank.

The RUSCO Spin Down Sediment Filter WITH SEDIMENT TRAP, when immediately installed after your well tank and before anything else in your home, serves as a first filtering system for sediment and other particles that are in deep well water systems. (Keep in mind that the deep well pump that is in the ground sucks up water and anything else that is down there.)

Make sure you get the model that includes the SEDIMENT TRAP which, as it states, traps sediment that is spun down from the top of the system, and traps it there so it will not go back up and clog the filter screen, which may reduce water pressure level and diminish the effectiveness of your spin down filter.

Also, the 3/4" size may first appear to be too large for 3/4" CPVC, but it is not. After priming, use a heavy layer of glue to secure your CPVC in two places on the Spin Down Filter: In the InFlow hole, and the Outflow hole of the Spin Down Filter. Allow this thick layer of gluing to stay in place and undisturbed for at least 24 hours to fully cure so that it will be operational when you do the final install and ready sooner for full water pressure. (Excuse the terminology, I did the work myself but I am not a professional plumber. I was blessed to serve as the general construction manager for a new church, and two new homes. So I learned some things--especially not to get screwed over by some guys in the building construction trades.)

I''ve had one of these on my well for a couple years. Going to replace it. Not sure with what yet. This filter is an interesting idea but not great in practice. After a couple years, the housing threads are hard to unscrew. I do use silicone grease every time I open it. It only works well for sand. If you have any sticky stuff; clay, silt or whatever it sticks to the screen and clogs it up. I have to purge it daily. The purge valve on the bottom only works to clean loose sediment if you use it the way they intend. If you installed valves before, after, and a bypass, you can close the input valve, open the bypass and open the purge valve. That blasts water backward through the filter and will clean off some of the sticky crud. Still have to remove the filter and wash it with a brush every week or two. So, OK for sand. Not OK for anything else.

They do seem to help with collection of minerals from the water you use. But, you still have to pay attention to the scale build up on the heating element. Do not let it build up, as it is really hard to remove it. Use white vinegar as least once a week to clean or soak the heating surface.

I also found that as it comes with two pads together; that was blocking the water from flowing into the heating area, so I just separated them and use one pad at a time.

I used to go through a box of these every 2 months. If you soak the pads in vinegar over night, you can reuse the pads instead of throwing them out.

I got one kit just in case, and can recommend having one as a backup. So far, I''ve washed the original set that came in the air cleaner twice, with no noticeable breakdown of the pleated filter. The rubber gasket seems like it will last indefinitely, and there is no structural breakdown when you wash it.

Washing the filter is a bit of a mess, but obviously the low-cost option for keeping your air filter running. Keep one of these kits for the day you don''t have time or interest in washing the original one, or when you do wind up seeing the pleated filter break down.

Eventually, I would guess the pleated filter will break down, and you may also tear the foam part, so keeping a spare set handy is a good idea. I do like the 1030000 air cleaner -saves your lungs AND prevents dust from escaping if you have a basement workshop...

This would be a five-star item, were it not for one serious flaw. It comes with heavy clips, a.k.a. Tension Weights, much like heavy, giant bag clips, which you can attach to the bottom of a shirt, or pants, to help straighten out the wrinkles. You know the wrinkles that stretch horizontally across the back of a shirt after it''s been worn? These clips are great for helping get rid of that. HOWEVER, the clips that came with my Fabric Freshener could not withstand the heat and fell apart after a few uses. If only Whirlpool would redesign these clips, which are made mostly of a soft plastic which starts to warp in a critical place, where plastic tabs grab the axle about which the clip pivots. For about 8 months, this thing was a lifesaver. Not as good as a good ironing, not as clean as dry cleaning, but I could dress professionally every day of the week, thanks to this contraption. I bought my freshener in February 2007. My intention in buying it was to be able to treat my dry clean clothes at home and get more wearings out of them before having to send them to the cleaners. It has definitely performed well in that area. It does a good job on business-type jackets, pants, and dresses. Linen doesn''t always come out as wrinkle-free as I would like, but it''s typically good enough for at least one more wearing. I haven''t had much luck with shirts or blouses. Prior to buying the FF, I used Dryel in my dryer. I''ve definitely been happier with this since it uses only water, you''re not left with that unique (and strong) Dryel smell. Also with Dryel, if you didn''t get the clothes out as soon as the dryer finished, they''d look worse than when they went into the bag. If you forget about the items after the FF finishes, it''s not a big deal since they''re hanging up already. Still, I want to make it clear that it''s intended to freshen the clothes, not replace the dry cleaner. In other words if you''re expecting that machine from The Jetsons where you throw the dirty shirt in and get a clean pressed shirt out, you will be disappointed.

Now, the reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because I''m on my second one. I used it for nine months before deciding to put it through the vinegar cleaning cycle. I had read in several places online that many of them stopped working after that, so I had put it off instead of doing it every six months as directed. I ran it through and sure enough it stopped taking in water to create steam after that. We won''t even go into how steamed vinegar made everything around it smell. I tried cleaning it out and using a shop vacuum thinking it was clogged with no luck.

I decided to call the Whirlpool support number that came with it even though it was long past the limited warranty period. I got a voice mail and left a message with my name, phone number, and serial number. Based on everything I''d read, I expected to get either no response or an unhelpful one. I was pleasantly surprised when my call was returned within 20 minutes, and the representative offered right off the bat to ship me a brand new one. She let me know that this was a one time replacement and to not do the vinegar cleaning cycle, even though the manual called for it. She said as long as I only used distilled water it would be fine. The new one arrived about a week later, and I''m now back in business. UPS should be picking up the old one today. I shipped both vinegar cups back with it.

One more point for my review after the first one broke and I was debating what to do about it, I decided to run a report in Quicken to see how much I''d spent on dry cleaning to see if it really did save me any money. From March to November of this year, I spend almost $400 on dry cleaning. During the same period in 2006, I spent nearly $1000. That''s what made me decide to call the help phone number. Even if they hadn''t done anything to help me, I would have replaced it, since it essentially paid for itself in three months.

Or you will end up with a dead unit like so many other people.

This is a known flaw at Whirlpool but instead proactively informing people of that, they only do when you call to complain.

This is a 5-star unit when it works. Using this, a Kent fabric brush and a little spot cleaning I was able to eliminate my dry cleaning. I was also able to reduce my ironing. This product does not eliminate ironing as many folks are mistaken in believing.

But the Fabric Freshener also has a serious design flaw that is known by Whirlpool. I was told they are in the process of printing correct manuals (this product has been on the market for at least 3 years now). For this, they should get negative stars. And it took many, many phone calls and emails, ultimately escalating to their executive office to get an answer as to why my unit stopped steaming.

I was told that the cups have a "water softener" built into them (little beads) that migrate into the system. In the presence of vinegar, these beads swell up and clog the unit, thus preventing it from steaming.

The rep said this why they recommend changing the cups every six months (but this in no way will prevent the problem once you do the vinegar cleaning). They now say do not put vinegar into the unit. Well, duh. Thanks for that bit of information way too late. Again this begs the question: why on earth is this vital information is not in the product description on their website?

On the plus side they told me they would do a one time full replacement of my year old unit. On the down side, it should have been here by now.

So buyer beware: the product is really quite excellent when it works but Whirlpool has some serious ethical issues with its products, repairs and customer service. (Google Whirlpool complaints to see what I mean).

4-7-09 ETA: I got the replacement Fabric Freshener, filled up the new water cup and it did not work. It did the exact same thing as the old unit. Tried to steam then skipped right to dry. I tried again with the old water cup and it worked the first time, didn''t work the second time. This supposedly new replacement makes awful grinding noises and seems like it is well past its useful life. I don''t expect it to work consistently or for very long. The promised shipping label to return the old unit and the updated manual were both missing.

My best advice to anyone considering this as a purchase is do not waste your money on this. It is just not a good value.

Remove shower disc by unscrewing the screw under the brew head. Clean filter. Do not reinsert.

Pour entire bottle into water tank.

Rinse by running plain cold water through machine.

Unless I am mistaken no-where can you find how much liquid is required for each descaling operation. The product instructions refer you to the coffee makers instruction manual, in my case a Gaggia, and the coffee machine instructions refer you to the descaler instruction book-this being a programmed descaling operation.

That apart, it would seem to work fine

Only reason I didn''t rate it a 5 star is because there are instructions that came with my Gaggia machine and different instructions that came with the Gaggia decalcifier. Unfortunately neither one really is clear as to how much water should be used just use the bottle and fill your reservoir. Since different machines have different size reservoirs, it leaves you wondering what exactly you should do. So I just followed the directions as per the bottle and it seemed to clean the machine pretty well.
