Bryant / Carrier Humidifier Water Panel 318518-762 Save 23% Off

Bryant / Carrier Humidifier Water Panel 318518-762I was able to get a pair of filters for less than the repair shop wanted for just one. Great deal. They fit perfectly, and are the exact same thing that the shop wanted a lot more for.

Great deal.

They fit and do the job. Quality of materials seems good. Price is better than from my dealer. What more can I say.

Other than the Carrier part number difference, so I had to verify the dimensions, works like a charm. Piece price is better though you have to buy two. Got them on time...no complaints.

After moving in to our home, I noticed that the humidifier that is connected to our furnace required this water panel. This item is identical to the old water panel that I removed from the humidifier. I couldn''t believe that I found it at Amazon. Wow.

Everpure EV9618-02 OCS 2 Filter Cartridge
  • New and improved Micro-Pure II media with AgION antimicrobial protection inhibits any potential bacterial growth
  • Everpure''s unique filter blend using activated carbon reduces chlorine taste and odor and other offensive contaminants
  • Saves energy by reducing scale build-up. Proportioned scale inhibitor feed dramatically prevents limescale from forming in brewing equipment
  • Precoat submicron technology reduces dirt and particles as small as 1/2 micron in size
  • Sanitary cartridge replacement is simple, quick and clean. Internal filter parts are never exposed to handling or contamination

The product was very easy to order. However, due to unforseen issues the cartridge was not needed. It was never opened. Called for a return and was then informed that there was a 15% restocking fee and the cost for shipping back would also be applied. The product still was no longer needed. I believe the shipping charges were justified but 15% on an unopened product. That was a bit more than resonable. What did it cost them to put it back on the shelf. They actually made money on the return. Sorry to say but they have you over a barrel when you do not need a product and they charge unreasonable "restocking fees". Makes you want to deal with the big box stores that do not charge for this service.

Clearyl Water Filter for Jura Coffee Centers

Clearyl Water Filter for Jura Coffee Centers - Clearyl Blue 60Exactly what I needed for my Z5. It is pricey for what it does, but if you need, then you will have no choice but to buy it or do the manual descaling which is more time consuming. I actually don''t change it out but once every 9 mos. or so but do not notice any changes in the way the expresso taste. We drink 8 cups of expresso and two cups of extra strong coffee every morning so a lot of water goes through this filter.

I guess it works fine enough, hard to tell with water filters. But this is a very pricey water filter for what boils down to about 3 months of usage. I guess they have their corner on this market so they can charge whatever they want.

Very convenient way to keep your supply of filters to protect your investment in the coffee machine. I always keep at least one extra so that I know I will have a safe water supply.

Distiller Residue Cleaner 1lb.I have used Waterwise Kleenwise Descaler that sells for $24.95 and add the shipping $12.70to that and you have $37.65. Kind of expensive.

This distiller residue cleaner is the same chemical(sulfmic acid and citric acid at half the cost.

Does the job for me and saves a few bucks.

The cleaner works just fine and is a fraction of the cost of others that I have priced. I would recommend it to anyone who would like to save money.

You can either use lemon/lime and wait for 10 min to loosen the calcium deposits or use distiller residue and wait for 5 min, both works same for the distiller, apart from the extra effort of squeezing the lime.

Floatron Natural Pool Cleaner Algae-free No chemicals Save 17% Off

Floatron Natural Pool Cleaner Algae-free No chemicalsI have used this Floatron for over ten years in a twelve-foot aboveground pool in South New Jersey and am very satisfied with its performance. I just left it floating all the time, and it kept the water free of algae and turbidity to the point that I used chlorine only once in Spring after removing the winter tarp, and once more in late Fall before putting the pool cover back on and disconnecting the pump. In all those years, I had to replace the copper electrode twice, at $50.00 or so each time, but I guess chemical treatment would have cost more in money and maintenance time.

The only slight cons are that when my children were younger and practically lived in that pool during the swimming season, their blond hair seemed occasionally to get a slightly greenish tint, and some white T-shirts showed the same coloration, but it was slight and never bothered us. Also, the rubber bumper strip around the Floatron''s circumference came loose and split, and I had to caulk it back into its groove.

Some of that old Floatron''s photocells look discolored now, as if water had leaked into or around them, and last summer I had to use chlorine a couple of times to keep the water clear. I guess therefore that this Floatron has reached the end of its lifespan, and I am replacing it with a new one, but the old one has served us well and fully earned its retirement.

Live in Albuquerque, NM. Have a 15 x 30 feet inground vinyl-lined pool that came w/ the house 10 years ago when we moved in. Sick of chemicals and trying to get the right balance and kill the algae I saw starting to grow. The Floatron (though I didn''t get it from Amazon) came with a 3-month guarantee, so I thought I''d try it through the summer months. It was wonderful. Water feels so good and you don''t smell chemicals. A friend locally said my pool is the only one she will swim in. Only need a trace amount of chlorine to burn off and some baking soda to up the pH from time to time. I recommended this to our neighbor with a gunite pool and a friend w/ an above-ground pool. Both still use it. The friend w/ the above-ground pool said she could never get her water to clear despite the Baquacil (sp?)type products. The Floatron cleared her pool. My husband was skeptical until we gave it a try. We have saved so much money, and I don''t know why this product hasn''t taken pool stores out of business with all their chemicals. The copper ions emitted take care of algae, bacteria, etc. It is so easy to open and close our pool. The copper core lasts us 2 years. A new one just screws in and doesn''t cost a whole lot. e-mail me if you have questions at

Ive had the Floatron in the pool for the last 4 weeks and there is absolutely no sign of algae. The water is crystal clear.

I use 1 3" chlorine tab is the skimmer per week, though Im not sure if its necessary. FYI the pool is above ground 4 x 24.

I''ve had my Floatron for just this season. It''s done a fantastic job. I just let it float all the time. [I do clean (scrape the residue off) the inner core every other week, to make sure the Floatron is operating at full strength. Even so, I know I will *at least* get into next season before I need to replace the core.]

I have an 18''x36'' in-ground pool with steps. I also have four large outdoor dogs that use the pool steps to cool off, although they don''t go beyond the steps (I don''t have the heart to block them from the pool given the mid-to-high 90s temps and high humidity in the summers here.)

Last year, I had to use a lot of chlorine (6-8 3" tablets a week) and clean the pool at least twice a week, and I still had to clear out algae at least every other week.

This year, I''ve had no algae even though I''m using a lot less chlorine (2-4 3" tablets a week) and only clean the pool once a week. Chlorine and baking soda are all I''ve needed. The water is also much easier on the eyes and much more enjoyable to swim in.

I haven''t had problems with any green/staining, but, come to think of it, my friends don''t have blond hair, so that could still be a problem for some.

Overall, I highly recommend this product; it''s definitely worth the cost. It allows you to avoid the cost of dealing with algae, in terms of both chemicals and frustration.

Want Floatron Natural Pool Cleaner Algae-free No chemicals Discount?

Bought this through Amazon a few months ago. It''s not a toy, don''t know why it''s classified as such. My in-ground pool maintenance was pretty time consuming, running to the pool store and backwashing the filter twice a month and skimming and sweeping, and was costing about $80 a month between the chems and the electric bill. Two days after my Floatron arrived, my pool filter broke. Great, no filter, no pump, no circulation. I thought I was in for the battle of the century with the pool. So I decided to put the Floatron in the pool and see how it does (following instructions, of course). I never expected this little gadget to work so well. I''m in South Florida, and algae had been an occasionally recurring problem. But now, even though I have no circulation and no filter operating, the pool water is clear and it''s actually easier and MUCH cheaper to maintain with Floatron. I have shocked it once in 3 months (instead of weekly), used half the chlorine tabs I used to, no electric used for the pool for all this time, and the water is nicer than it ever was, feels like swimming in rainwater. I estimate it has almost paid for itself in 3 months. Five minutes once a week to clean the Floatron element is easy. So far, I''m very happy.

HDE Color Changing LED Shower Head - Temperature Sensitive
  • Temperature sensitive LED shower head provides a visual indication of water temperature
  • No batteries are necessary and the energy source is strictly from the water current
  • Material: Chrome coated ABS
  • 3/4" screw diameter fits most standard shower hoses
  • Water flow: Approx 2.5 gallons per minute

When I saw the reviews, I was thinking about not buying this but i decided to try it out. When I tried it out, it worked great. It told me when the water was perfect so that i didn''t have to put my hand in the water every 10 seconds to check the temperature. Two weeks later, the lights stopped working, I started to freak out, but i unscrewed the whole thing and waited a couple of days and put it back on, and it began working great again. Great item but you might have some problems so don''t expect this thing to last forever. :/

The shower head works but I wouldn''t drop it. The plastic outer cover (the one where the water goes through) is loose and the water comes out the sides. I''ll probably have to use glue or Teflon tape to hold it in place.

The head doesn''t look to good but the colors are pretty nice.

After having to buy additional hard ware to install and an additional hanger for the shower head we got it installed. It worked great for about a week or two, then the light stopped working. Great disappointment, seeing as how we had to make the additional changes to our shower to accommodate the shower head. Also, if you aren''t that handy and need good directions and a list of what else you need to make this product work, don''t get this. The directions to install are about 1/2 a page and you can only find the addition pieces after much searching. Definitely would not recommend this to anyone.

The product works as advertised. There''s a slight noise problem, but that''s to be expected when the shower head contains a turbine generator. What I didn''t expect was the low pressure of the water that comes out. Yes, the product text says it does reduce flow a bit, but most shower head manufacturers fix that by mixing in air, or reducing the diameter of the jets in order to keep pressure up. If that was done here, it would be a truly excellent product.

I read the reviews of others, I have to say I did not have their issues. I like it, I have no problems with it. It works just fine, hard to believe at that price. It is really cute. I have had it for more than a month now and everyone in the family thinks it is neat.

I used some teflon tape when I attached my existing hose and had no leaks at all. At first glance I thought the threads could be a little smoother but actually it was no problem at all and I did not do anythng special to the threads. Just screwed it on.

Also the temperature feature where the LED''s change color with the temperature works spot on, as a product development engineer I was tracking that feature.

Santevia Enhanced Mineral Stone Post Filter Save 7% Off

Santevia Enhanced Mineral Stone Post Filter - 1 lbs - StonesI already bought a Berkey Light filter which works by gravity and can be cleaned indefintely and keep working. In using it, I found that my output water hsd the same pH as my input water, pH 6.0 roughly. I got these Santevia stones to try to alkalyze the water. The pH moved to about 6.5. Good, but not as much as I had hoped. I still add a few drops of "Willard water" to move it some more. The center filters two thru six of the Santevia filter system also move the pH towards alkaline for those who buy this complete system. The final stones are claimed to last much longer than the center Santevia filters. I may buy another pack of these stones to add to my Berkey Light.

After reading the last review I would just like to comment that these stones are to add the minerals back to your water. I have been using this whole system for almost 3 years now and it is the best water I have ever had. It is comparable to the FIJI water without the hefty price tag and the stuff that the ceramic pre-filter filters out is disgusting! As per the previos reviewer, if you want to be more alkaline then your diet needs to consist of 80% alkaline foods and 20 % can be acidic. I have a very alkaline body :) I use this filter to filter the junk out of my water and it works amazing for that!

I have been using this filter for over a year and the water that comes from it normally tastes unusually good. It is soft and has no chemical after taste. However, the last couple of months I have noticed that algae has been appearing in the bottom area where the stones are. I have ceased using this because I am concerned about bacteria in the water.

We used this in our Berkey with 0 results. The stones just sit there and didn''t do anything to alter our water''s mineral or PH level.

I contacted the company and this is what they told me "We cannot guarantee that using our mineral stones will work with your Berkey as you are missing an important component such as our 5 stage filter which helps in the re-mineralizing and alkalizing of your source water"

So basically you have to buy their $200 plastic water system (no plastic for my family, thank you) and a filter pack $108 and replace the filter every 6 months.

We spent the money on Berkey because the are know and and trusted and is a non-plastic container that holds our drinking water, and doesn''t leech BPA into the water.

If you are looking to raise your waters PH levels. I strongly suggest you look elsewhere.

Stainless Steel & Plastic Replacement Filter - each - FilterThe product looked nothing like the picture, and didn''t fit the water bottle. You can tell the plastic was not of good quality. I would not trust this filter for the quality of filtering that it is suppose to have. It also looked like it was a used product and then resealed. I have returned it and I would not recommend anyone to buy this.

The water we have has so much chemicals in it I can''t stand to drink it. I had decided I wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle so I gave up soft drinks for water. Chemex Coffee Maker 8 Cup Classic

Chemex Coffee Maker 8 Cup ClassicUsing a Chemex requires water to be heated in a tea kettle prior to brewing, and it requires a finer ground than what auto-drip machines ask for. After the water is brought to a boil, it''s important to wait for it to cool just slightly (about 30 seconds) and then you need to wet the grounds in the filter, wait for them to drain, and then fill the pot with water. Want more than a single cup of coffee? You wait for your first pour to brew, and then fill the filter again.

Some advantages over other forms of coffee brewing:

1. Taste: I don''t know how it does it, but the filter does keep your coffee from being bitter.

2. Cleanability: Users can keep all necessary components clean (anyone who''s brewed water and vinegar through their coffee maker to kill off a bitter taste that wasn''t there when you bought it understands this plight). Oftentimes, the most aggressive criticism of the Chemex is its ponderousness to clean because it''s not possible to get your hand into the reservoir. Some people prefer to add hot water and soap and give it a good rinse, which is fine if you clean the moment you empty the pot, but if you''re like me and you let the remaining sip or two sit until a nice coffee stain is on the glass, then you need some good ''ol fashion friction to get it clean. The best thing I''ve found: a baby bottle cleaner. It''s narrow enough to get into the reservoir and the angle can be adjusted to scrap the walls, too. Brilliant!

3. Electricity Free: As long as you can boil water, you can have coffee.

4. Mud/Sludge: French press and stove-top espresso-style brewing always leaves a thick slime at the bottom of an otherwise rich cup of coffee. Don''t get me wrong: I think that''s good (I use a French Press when I''m in the mood), but the cone on a Chemex doesn''t allow that at all.

5. Style/Size: the Chemex coffee pot is a relic (designed in the 40s) and the wood cuff with rawhide tie screams simplicity and elegance and it''s a wonderful, minimalist sight on any kitchen counter (and unlike electric coffee makers, easy to move if you need the space).

Some drawbacks any purchaser should consider:

1. Time: it does take 5 10 minutes of labor to get the morning cup of coffee.

2. Cones: you can''t run over to Wal-Mart when you use the last filter; you need to find a specialty store or go online, which means you need to plan ahead.

3. Cold Coffee: no electric hot plate (thank god) means coffee not poured and consumed immediately gets cold quickly. You can buy a wire guard and a glass lid so your Chemex can be warmed on the stovetop. I think that''s more labor added to an already laborious endeavor. Just have a warmed thermos ready and use that to store any unused coffee.

4. Learning Curve: It does take some time to get the grind right, the amount right and the water level right to find a cup which caters to your tongue.

5. Cleanability: I know this is in the advantages column, as well, but it''s worth mentioning that a lot of people hate cleaning these things. To submerge it does mean pulling off the wood cuff (which is a small pain) else it will get nasty over time.

Sometime between my apartment in college and the first move to my first real pad, my 4-cup Krups automatic drip gave out. I didn''t drink enough coffee to buy a replacement. Every so often when the caffeine urge strikes, I would microwave some water in a Pyrex measuring cup, insert a paper filter in the plastic basket that sits atop the carafe, add the ground, and pour in the boiling water all at once. Call it the poor man''s coffee maker but it made the best coffee bar none. There is no auto-drip that can extract as much strength and flavor as a quick 3-minute submersion in boiling water. Which, incidentally, is what a French press does, but leaves a bottom layer of silt.

I continue to make coffee this way, and never bought a replacement auto-drip, partly because I was lazy, didn''t have a lot of space, and it worked. Alas, the carafe went to Krups heaven as well, and I cast about to buy an auto-drip. It seems time.

I did a lot of consumer research for machines from budget-friendly $35 models to $150 multi-function behemoth that would roast, grind and brew AND bring you coffee in bed. All roads lead to Rome and all coffee pilgrims eventually come to Chemex. This is the way to get great coffee, and it doesn''t involved a plug.

I bought it because it''s simple, has no moving or electrical part, is not prone to breakage unless I drop it, does not take up a lot of space, and oh, the MOMA considers it an objet d''art, if the art geek in you needs persuation. The design is quite clever, BTW. You insert the filter, which is flushed with the side of the opening; this creates a suction vacuum, of sorts. Water drips down, and the flow is regulated by the displacement of air from below, up the pour spout, which is not flushed with the filter. To clean, you just rinse and pour out. The wooden and leather "belt" can be removed if you want to wash your carafe in the dish washer.

I use a normal #2 coffee filter, it is a bit small but I''m told the #3 filter (harder to find) fits it perfectly. You don''t need to buy the Chemex filter, but I''ve read that it is thicker, allowing for a longer saturation time therefore extracting more flavor. The carafe is heat-resistant pyrex glass, you cannot put this directly on heating elements. It will not keep your coffee warm. I make my coffee and immediately pour into my thermos. This is (still) the best way to make a cup of coffee.

And now for the reason why I have to subtract one star from such a fine product which I use, and like: THIS IS NOT AN 8-CUP CARAFE!

When it arrived I looked at the size of the box and thought the shipper made a mistake. But there it was, printed on the side of the carton: 8-cup capacity. I''m thinking "cup" as in "measuring cup", the normal kitchen unit for volume measurement. You may read "based on 5oz. cups" elsewhere, but what is that? I have trouble envisioning 5 oz. but I can estimate a cup. Incidentally my coffee cup holds a little less than one standard measuring cup.

I measured the capacity of the carafe. It will only hold barely 8 cups if you fill it to the rim, an impossibility as you need the top to situate your filter and ground. At the midpoint of the carafe, it holds a little more than 4 standard measuring cups. Even this is pushing it, as you need room for the drip. For practical purpose, this is a 4-cup carafe.

Chemex makes a 10-cup carafe, but I suspect it may be just 5-cup, practically speaking. The capacity labeling is inaccurate and just silly.

Simple. Elegant. and produces (almost) the best cup of coffee (second only to a Hario Syphon). The labor is negligible if you consider the benefits.

Since the filter is cone shaped, it eliminates sludge and provides a consistent filtration. I have used a Chemex since 1989 yes, I have cracked a few, but some vendors have the hand-blown version which is a sturdier glass.

I have used many types of coffee makers over the years, and I keep coming back to Chemex type coffee makers. Some call it work, I call it the extra bit of user involvement that results in a higher quality end product. If you take coffee seriously--I assume you do if you reading this--the small amount of involvement required by this type of coffee brewer is simply the cost of prefection. I recommend that anyone using this type of coffee maker also invest in a one liter vacuum flask to pour your brewed coffee into so that it will stay warm and fresh. You doubtless realize that it is a bad practice to attempt to keep brewed coffee warm by adding heat as on a stove top. The result of adding heat is bitterness and ruined coffee. So, get one of these simple, well made devices, keep it clean, learn how to use it well, and enjoy really first rate coffee for years, never again having to throw away a junky plastic coffee maker. You will be glad you did.

PUR 18 Cup Dispenser Save 28% Off

PUR 18 Cup Dispenser with One Pitcher Filter DS-1800ZGreat water filter and pitcher. Durable and stylish.

Update 10/24/12: Still working amazingly well. Just pop it in the dishwasher every time I change the filter and its good as new.

This is a great water filter and it gets plenty of use in my household. If anything I could say "I wish it held more water," (I drink 3+ litres of water a day and it seems that I am always filling the darned thing up) but that would be an unreasonable request. Who would want a dispenser so large that it would be unwieldy to carry to the refrigerator? No one not even me. So I bought a second one so that one of them is always full! This dispenser is slim so that I can easily fit two side by side in my refrigerator. (Can''t have too much of a good thing!) And this filter/dispenser is definitely good it has a large fill "basket" and the 2 stage filter produces water that is completely taste and odor free. I could easily tell the difference in my drinking water! Lastly, the filters (with usage indicators) are long-lasting. I have filled my first dispenser twice a day for 1 1/2 months and it still hasn''t reached the half way point. Very impressive results! Highly recommend.

My wife and I have immensely enjoyed the wonderful water we get from our Pur filtration pitcher, which uses the same filters as this dispenser.

It''s very convenient -just pour water into the top, and it will, albeit slowly, drip through the filter. Over time, as the filter clogs, it will get slower, so the key is to add more water every time you pour more out -that way, it''s filtering while you are drinking and you aren''t waiting.

It''s actually much more convenient than the faucet-mount filters, which inevitably leak and get painfully slow and force you to wait...

Pur is better than Brita, by the way, if you get the Ultimate filters, which filter out cryptosporidium and giardia in addition to chemicals and gunk. Brita doesn''t do that; it''s an important feature if you have iffy water systems (Mexico, Russia) or a weak immune system...

We got this pitcher for our family of 6 almost 3 years ago, and have used it constantly since. It does fit nicely in a fridge, but we keep it on the counter because it gets used so often and I don''t like the fridge door opening all the time. We have a smaller Brita pitcher for the fridge, and there is a HUGE difference in the taste. The Pur is much better. We live in NYC, which has heavily chlorinated water. With this Pur filter, we can''t taste the chlorine at all.

We have found that after a couple of weeks (sometimes less) the filters really slow down. At first we''d just replace them, because even with replacing the filter every couple of weeks it''s cheaper to filter water than to buy it pre-bottled. (My daughter just did a science project on the fact that bottled water is almost completely unregulated, so filtering your own tested/regulated tap water is probably safer anyway.) However, we have since discovered that if you pull the filter out and soak it in cold water for 10 minutes, the same as you do when starting a new filter, the drip speed increases again. Now our filters really last the month or two they''re supposed to.

I have never had a problem with mold or mildew with this dispenser, a problem that some people have with Britas. I wash it every once in a while when I see dust in the top part, but I''m really amazed at how clean and fresh it has stayed all these years. It is really convenient to use though it''s a little heavy to return to the fridge once it''s filled (another reason ours stays on the counter).

I''m on this page now just because our dispenser has (finally) started to leak from the spout. There aren''t many products that can be used heavily for 3 years without a single problem! So after I finish this review, I''m going to buy another one. I don''t know of any better, safer, cheaper, more delicious way to keep a large family hydrated.

The ds-1800 / ds-1800z does the job, if slowly. Rough ballpark is that if the base is 1/3rd full and you fill the top to full, it''ll take 40 minutes (yes, I timed it) for it to filter (slows down towards the end.) If you''re starting from empty, you are looking at over an hour to a full container.

The filter spec sheet lists mostly high-90''s for percent-removal of lots of things, except for MTBEof which it only removes a minimum of 70%, and a maximum not much higher...still under 80%. Given how common MTBE pollution in water is these days (thanks, California!) and its carcinogenic nature, that''s pretty poor.

Also, Pur only rates it for a maximum of 2 gallons a day, and "approximately" 40 gallons per filter "depending on local water conditions". They warn you that the filter''s performance drops rapidly, but there''s no way to tell how long that''ll be, even if you have your water tested!

Watch out as the top is not 1/2 of the size of the bottom. The bottom is about 1.5x larger than the top. A line on the inside of the lower reservoir for a "don''t fill the top to full when the reservoir is above this" would be a good addition.

The amazon description is slightly misleading; it does not have a "filter life indicator". It has a sticker showing a 12 month dial, and a second sticker to place on that. A molded in dial with spinner would be an improvement and all that''s necessary (the brita lcd thing is silly.)

The spigot lever is strongly spring-loaded and cheaply built. If you pull it down and then let go, it will smack the side of the container very hard.

Make sure you insert the filter with the tabs aligned with the hole; you''ll see a lock-down mechanism that seats the filter after you give it clockwise turn. The instructions do not mention this. Also, the filter may seem like it sits too high in the upper tray, but the inlet slats go down almost to the o-ring, so don''t worry about it draining the upper tray.

Berkey Light with 2 Black Filters and 2 PF-2 Fluoride Filters Save 14% Off

Berkey Light with 2 Black Filters and 2 PF-2 Fluoride FiltersI question where some of these reviewers got their information about performance tests. Check out .

On one of the tabs you''ll find analysis results.

The FAQ page says: "There are simply too many varieties of pharmaceuticals that could end up in drinking water. By too many I mean it is impossible to test for them all. However, we do know from testing, that the purification process used by the Black Berkey elements remove more pollutants than any other system available on the market today." It also describes a test you can do by adding red food coloring to the water to be sure the filter is working. Any filter that will remove red food coloring has to be pretty effective.

Regarding the high TDS rate one reviewer mentions, the FAQ page says, "Berkey purification systems do not remove the beneficial minerals from the water but they do extract harmful heavy metals such as lead and mercury as well as sedimentary minerals such as iron oxide. Therefore, the TDS (total dissolved solids) reading will not typically change much unless there are a lot of heavy metals or sedimentary minerals in the source water."

About viruses, the FAQ page says: "Berkey is the original North American distributor for British Berkefeld, a company who makes the finest ceramic water filter available. These ceramic filters are excelent at removing harmful bacteria from sediment heavy, contaminated drinking water. It soon became clear to Berkey that a more powerful filter was needed, one that not only removed bacteria but was also in addition able to remove chemicals, viruses, heavy metals fertilizers and a long list of additional contaminants from your drinking water. After many years of research Berkey developed the Black Berkey purification element. This filter gives you all of the benifits of the ceramic filter with the added abilities mentioned above. Black Berkey purification element signifigantly raised the bar to a level that no other gravity flow water filters are curently able to attain."

These filters are used all over the world by aid agencies. You won''t find any filter on the market that will purify better. Certainly not simple charcoal filters like Pur. On this page: it explains that a water filter has to remove 99.99% of pathogenic bacteria. To be sold as a "purifier" it has to remove 99.9999%. "All Berkey systems that contain the Black Berkey elements are classified as water purifiers. In fact Berkey Water Purifiers remove 99.9999999% (log 9 reduction) of pathogenic bacteria. To our knowledge no other water filtration device in the world can match that claim."

I have had a Big Berky for 2 months, due to a cancer diagnosis my treatment plan requires drinking pure water with no added fluoride and no residual agrotoxins, etc. The Berkey filters were the best solution I could find of anything on the market and we''re loving the water and quick and easy system.

I live in Thailand where all drinking water comes in large plastic containers, most of which bake in the hot sun for hours while being transported to shops to be sold. So even the best quality drinking water here tastes of plastics, chemicals and metals.

Now I simply pour this ''drinking water'' through my beloved Berkey Light and it comes out tasting like heaven! So pure, so tasteless and some how it even feels like ''wetter'' water in my mouth. Perhaps the water molecules are reduced in size due to the extensive filtering.

NOTE: if you are attaching the white PF-2 Flouride Filters be sure not to turn them more than the recommended 8 turns, I didn''t read the instructions fully and when I attached them I heard a crunch I managed to break the media screen by turning too much hope this doesn''t end up harming my health too much!

I cannot recommend this product highly enough 5 stars!

I wish I had invested in one of these 5 years ago!

First, the good. The Berkey water filter system works without electricity, is one of the most thorough filters on the market, and produces great tasting water. I don''t regret purchasing this item, however, I do have some gripes. For one thing, the instructions that come with the filter are REEE-diculous. For almost $300, I would expect a better set of instructions, one that was produced for my exact product, not a general sort of guide with alot of if''s, and''s and but''s concerning different optional pieces. Also, the text and illustrations looked like they were written and drawn by a fifth grader... and not a particularly talented one. Note to other purchasers: all the filters need to be flushed out with tap water using the spongy little donut thingie to keep you from spraying water off the sides of the spigot. And if you get the flouride filters, only turn them eight times when attaching or you might damage them. Also, I thought the plastic was a bit flimsy, especially for the price. I was expecting something a little more solid. On the plus side, the plastic has no BPA''s in it, which is a plus for the fellas, because BPA''s are converted into estrogen in the body... not good for boys. At the end of the day, it does produce some great tasting water, and I guess that''s all that matters. I just feel like I need to deduct a star for the pathetic instructions it came with.

We live in town and our local water supply had so much residual chlorine in it that it got to the point I wouldn''t drink water at the end of the day. It had kind of a strange taste the first time we used the Berkey, but I don''t know if that is because we weren''t used to it or because it had some residual coating on the plastic. We washed ours before use, but I think if I had to do it over I would wash the containers a couple of times before running my first set of water through.

One of the coolest things to do is put food coloring in the top container and watch it come out clear in the bottom. This is actually part of the set up procedure in the instructions. Set up took about 15 minutes, the threads on the bottom of the filters are fine and about an inch long so that you can thread the PF2 filters on the bottom. We haven''t actually used our PF2 filters yet. I wanted to try it without for awhile and then try it with the PF2 filters and see if we noticed a taste difference. The rest of the thing just snaps together, and is easy enough to take apart that my wife doesn''t have any issues. It is recommended that you take the bottom section apart once a month and wash it with soap to prevent algae growth.

The only thing I am not super thrilled with is the spigot. It is a pretty much standard like water cooler spigot, but it is kinda a flimsy plastic and the seals that seal it to the container are ok, but I had some leaking issues when I first assembled it. The instructions for the spigot seal are kinda ambiguous as well because they are bell shaped and can go either way, still not sure which way they are suppossed to go, but it doesn''t leak.

All in all good product, glad for the light weight and movability, but not sold on the spigot.

I''ve had the Berkey light for a few months now and overall, I''m happy with it. I bought it with the intention of using it to filter out flouride or purify water in the event of an emergency. Unfortunately for my reviews, I tend to point out the things I don''t like about things. First of all, this thing is huge. If this is a Berkey light, I shudder to think what size the other ones are. To put it simply, this will not fit on most kitchen counters as it''s easily three feet tall. Next, and probably the biggest complaint is build quality. You can tell most of the technology for the Berkey light was put into the filters. The design of the unit itself is cheap in my opinion. Not only that, but I discovered the unit will leak if you leave water in the top reservoir. While this isn''t a major problem for me, it may be for some. Basically, you have to wait until the bottom unit empties out of water until you fill the top up with water. Considering the top unit holds 2.5 gallons of water, you can see how this may be a hassle for some people. Last is the taste of the water itself. I didn''t notice a difference in taste between using the Berkey and a Brita water filter. Despite all of these flaws, I''m still happy with the product however, I would recommend others to spend a few extra dollars and by one of the metal containers. Hopefully that would resolve the issue with the leaks.

Whirlpool Fabric Freshener

Whirlpool Fabric Freshener
  • Removes odors such as tobacco smoke or cooking odors, using only steam, to save you on trips to the dry cleaners
  • Relaxes wrinkles using a hands-free, immersive steam environment to bring clothes back to their ready-to-wear state in just over half an hour
  • Gentle on your clothes, using only water and avoids the use of chemicals or detergents
  • Selecting among Heavy Duty, Normal or Delicate cycles is easy - just fill the cycle cup with distilled water to the desired level
  • The 30 minute cycle time allows you to freshen two garments at once - just hang and go!

I read about this in the SkyMall catologue and when I checked in to the Marriott hotel, suprisingly there was one in my room. There was also a survey card near it so I think they''re testing it out at hotels. For someone who travels about 80-90% of the year, and only spends weekends at home, this machine is great! I completely took any scent or odor out of my clothes, including perfume or food smells, and in addition, took out about 95% of the wrinkles. This machine is great for someone like me who is a busy professional that can never make it to the dry cleaners on time to pick up my clothes before they close, and many times, i just need the odor and wrinkles taken out. I had a shirt with a stain on it and I cleaned it with my shout wipe and stuck it in the Fabric Freshener and my shirt came out wrinkle and spot free and fresh. It cleans 2 garments at a time and the total cycle time is right around 30 minutes. You literally just put your clothes in, fill in the cup with water, zip up the bag, press the button and go watch tv or whatnots, and by the time your show is done, so is your clothes.

This would be a five-star item, were it not for one serious flaw. It comes with heavy clips, a.k.a. Tension Weights, much like heavy, giant bag clips, which you can attach to the bottom of a shirt, or pants, to help straighten out the wrinkles. You know the wrinkles that stretch horizontally across the back of a shirt after it''s been worn? These clips are great for helping get rid of that. HOWEVER, the clips that came with my Fabric Freshener could not withstand the heat and fell apart after a few uses. If only Whirlpool would redesign these clips, which are made mostly of a soft plastic which starts to warp in a critical place, where plastic tabs grab the axle about which the clip pivots. In the meantime, I''m looking for a substitute. Pants hangers with the bars that clip onto the bottom of the pants legs are a start. They work with shirts, but they are too big for pants because the pants hang too close to the bottom of the appliance.

For about 8 months, this thing was a lifesaver. Not as good as a good ironing, not as clean as dry cleaning, but I could dress professionally every day of the week, thanks to this contraption. As I was using it heavily (ave. 2-4 cycles per week) I kept up religiously with suggested maintenance, but alas one day, it would no longer take water for the steam cycle and was rendered useless overnight. I''ve ordered a new one hoping (possibly naively) this is a fluke but this otherwise 5-star product is downgraded owing to it''s (in my opinion) way-too-early demise.

I bought my freshener in February 2007. My intention in buying it was to be able to treat my dry clean clothes at home and get more wearings out of them before having to send them to the cleaners. It has definitely performed well in that area. It does a good job on business-type jackets, pants, and dresses. Linen doesn''t always come out as wrinkle-free as I would like, but it''s typically good enough for at least one more wearing. I haven''t had much luck with shirts or blouses. Prior to buying the FF, I used Dryel in my dryer. I''ve definitely been happier with this since it uses only water, you''re not left with that unique (and strong) Dryel smell. Also with Dryel, if you didn''t get the clothes out as soon as the dryer finished, they''d look worse than when they went into the bag. If you forget about the items after the FF finishes, it''s not a big deal since they''re hanging up already. Still, I want to make it clear that it''s intended to freshen the clothes, not replace the dry cleaner. In other words if you''re expecting that machine from The Jetsons where you throw the dirty shirt in and get a clean pressed shirt out, you will be disappointed.

Now, the reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because I''m on my second one. I used it for nine months before deciding to put it through the vinegar cleaning cycle. I had read in several places online that many of them stopped working after that, so I had put it off instead of doing it every six months as directed. I ran it through and sure enough it stopped taking in water to create steam after that. We won''t even go into how steamed vinegar made everything around it smell. I tried cleaning it out and using a shop vacuum thinking it was clogged with no luck.

I decided to call the Whirlpool support number that came with it even though it was long past the limited warranty period. I got a voice mail and left a message with my name, phone number, and serial number. Based on everything I''d read, I expected to get either no response or an unhelpful one. I was pleasantly surprised when my call was returned within 20 minutes, and the representative offered right off the bat to ship me a brand new one. She let me know that this was a one time replacement and to not do the vinegar cleaning cycle, even though the manual called for it. She said as long as I only used distilled water it would be fine. The new one arrived about a week later, and I''m now back in business. UPS should be picking up the old one today. I shipped both vinegar cups back with it.

One more point for my review after the first one broke and I was debating what to do about it, I decided to run a report in Quicken to see how much I''d spent on dry cleaning to see if it really did save me any money. From March to November of this year, I spend almost $400 on dry cleaning. During the same period in 2006, I spent nearly $1000. That''s what made me decide to call the help phone number. Even if they hadn''t done anything to help me, I would have replaced it, since it essentially paid for itself in three months.

Or you will end up with a dead unit like so many other people.

This is a known flaw at Whirlpool but instead proactively informing people of that, they only do when you call to complain.

This is a 5-star unit when it works. Using this, a Kent fabric brush and a little spot cleaning I was able to eliminate my dry cleaning. I was also able to reduce my ironing. This product does not eliminate ironing as many folks are mistaken in believing.

But the Fabric Freshener also has a serious design flaw that is known by Whirlpool. I was told they are in the process of printing correct manuals (this product has been on the market for at least 3 years now). For this, they should get negative stars. And it took many, many phone calls and emails, ultimately escalating to their executive office to get an answer as to why my unit stopped steaming.

I was told that the cups have a "water softener" built into them (little beads) that migrate into the system. In the presence of vinegar, these beads swell up and clog the unit, thus preventing it from steaming.

The rep said this why they recommend changing the cups every six months (but this in no way will prevent the problem once you do the vinegar cleaning). They now say do not put vinegar into the unit. Well, duh. Thanks for that bit of information way too late. Again this begs the question: why on earth is this vital information is not in the product description on their website?

On the plus side they told me they would do a one time full replacement of my year old unit. On the down side, it should have been here by now.

So buyer beware: the product is really quite excellent when it works but Whirlpool has some serious ethical issues with its products, repairs and customer service. (Google Whirlpool complaints to see what I mean).

4-7-09 ETA: I got the replacement Fabric Freshener, filled up the new water cup and it did not work. It did the exact same thing as the old unit. Tried to steam then skipped right to dry. I tried again with the old water cup and it worked the first time, didn''t work the second time. This supposedly new replacement makes awful grinding noises and seems like it is well past its useful life. I don''t expect it to work consistently or for very long. The promised shipping label to return the old unit and the updated manual were both missing.

My best advice to anyone considering this as a purchase is do not waste your money on this. It is just not a good value.

Replacement Filters for Aquasana Drinking Water Filter

Replacement Filters for Aquasana Drinking Water Filter
  • Voted Consumers Digest Best Buy
  • Performance Certified by Underwriters laboratories and the California Department of Public Health
  • Help prevent thousands of plastic containers from winding up in landfills and further polluting the environment
  • Filters out chlorine, lead, VOCs, MTBE and Cysts
  • Cartridges should be replaced every 3-6 months

I bought my kit and filters directly from Aquasana back in June 2005. I''ve had a few problems, but the folks in Aquasana are very helpful. Fortunately they have made some improvements in the design of the filter housings and it''s easier to install with the right tools. When the original cheaper kitchen faucet I chose started leaking water 2 years after purchase, I chose to upgrade to a much sturdier, better looking design (premium brushed nickel). I had to pay for that, but all the other things I broke (because of poor design) Aquasana replaced promptly, free of charge I am part of their water for life program which involves spreading the cost of replacement filters over a year that''s why I can count on good customer service. If you take your time, & follow the instructions carefully when installing the filters you shouldnt have a problem and the water quality is great.

Buy Replacement Filters for Aquasana Drinking Water Filter Now

The Aquasana product line is well designed but too cheaply made to survive the effects of repeated filter

changes. The plastic parts bind up, strip and break unless you use the greatest caution when replacing filters.

The housing for the filters split and had to be replaced to the tune of $40.00 as a result of excessive water pressure. I can assure you that my hundred year old house could never produce excessive water pressure.

The hose fitting snapped off when I was attempting to unscrew the openning for the one of the filters. It is made of 1/8 inch pvc plastic. I was able to epoxy a brass replacement nipple for the hose and it is working well now. In short, Aquasana should realize that most consumers are prepared to spend a little more in the beginnign to avoid having to pay later for poorly made parts. If this unit fails again I will find something

to replace it.

I have this filter for more than a year. It works fine and you can feel the taste of water is better after filtered. The taste is especially good with the filtered water to brew coffee. I love it!

The advertised dimensions must be for the box in which the two filters are packaged. The part number is Electrolux #242047801, which turned out to be the exact replacment for my old filter. I bought this one to modify my GE reverse osmosis system.

The reason I modified my reverse osmosis system is the waste of wafer.

It is a 4 to 1 unit meaning that it takes 4 gallons of city water to produce 1

gallon of purified water and dumping 3 gallons to the sewer.

I hooked it in serial with other 2 large filters in the reverse osmosis system.

They produces a fresh, clean, ordorless water that I can use for cooking, drinking.

The clean wafer come out instantly every time I need. It''s more than sufficient.

It''s been running for about a month w/o any issue or concern at all.

Apartment and condo units, especially those on lower floors of older buildings, may have higher water pressure than this filter can handle. If your water pressure is above 100 PSI, you may find that the filter''s connections aren''t strong enough to keep the tubing connected to the water line it''s not possible to get the connection both tight enough to eliminate leaks and loose enough to prevent the connecting tubing from being blown out by the water pressure.

It was easy to install and I think it would work fine in a single family home. I just wouldn''t recommend it for an apartment or condo dweller in a lower-floor suite. On the other hand, it''s nice to have a clean ceiling!

Installation is very simple. Check out the FilterDoctor video for a demonstration @

Life Ionizer 7700

Life Ionizer 7700 - BlackI was skeptical at first about "Ionized" water, but after a few weeks of slowly turning up the PH, I felt more energy, a spunkiness I haven''t felt since I was twenty, and I was less hungry and losing weight. The machine is built like a Ferrari and each level of water is colorized on the display screen. It''s really cool to see the display turn to light blue, then purple depending on the PH level pushed. I''m glad I researched this product, because it was voted the best. Don''t spend 6K on the "other" brand, when this one is truly the superior choice. Awesome!

I have had this unit for about one year and I like the machine and my results.

The whole family likes the water and I know my Husband and I have both

seen an improvement in our health. We have also been more conscious of

our eating after reading one of the books that the life ionizer company sent us.

I hardly every write reviews or letters to companies but I did call them when

I am writing this testimonial because I was on amazon and decided to say

It even looks great in my kitchen.

I purchased this for my mother and and it never fully worked as advertised. I would not get the full alkaline 11 pH that I should have. The bigger issue is it struggled to put over 9.0 pH even with maximizing out all the internal settings. I do live in an area with hard water so when I called customer service I would disclaim this to them (him).

He recommended several extra prefiters and cleaning solutions to the tune of $200 plus dollars. Mind you, I don''t mind paying for maintenance, all these machine are going to take some extra buck to upkeep with replacement filters and such. Unfortunately even after these purchases I have not been able to squeeze over 9.0 pH on any consistent basis. I use the drops as a rough measurment which shows 8.0 -8.5 pH so I purchased a $200 digital for more accuracy and consistent measuring which show measurements of up to 9.0 pH.

I give it 2 stars because it at least reaches or slightly surpasses the minimum 8.5 pH needed for the health reasons but I don''t give it higher because of performance of not reaching higher and customer service is ok at best.

I purchased this June 2012 and started calling support within 2 months of that. I''m tired now.
