The good news: FOOT BLISS! These are simply the most incredibly comfortable things I have ever put on my feet. My feet are totally blissed out, and I''m considering moving to the Arctic Circle so I can wear them year-round. This is an outstanding product.The bad news: after wearing them for a week or so (with cotton socks), the soles of my feet became badly irritated -I''ve never worn shearling before, and something in it disagrees with the bottom of my feet (odd, because I wear wool socks regularly). I purchased 4 Duo Filter F472 for my FMF5. These filters should last through all of 2009 if replaced every 3 months as stated on the box. I noticed my coffee tasting a little bitter over the past few weeks. We throw the carafe in the dishwasher along with all of the parts. I then decided to replace the filter a month early and I noted two shocking things. 1: the filter and the grey filter holder had mold all over it. We could not even pull the filter out without it sticking. 2: The base were the filter holder sits had a puddle of water in the unit. This unit has not been used in over two weeks. I have contacted Krups and they have stated that I need to wait for a supervisor to call me back (24-48hrs) and I should be using a calcium "calcify"cleaner in the machine "often". No exact amount of times but "often" was given.Be aware that you might have to wipe the water out of the base under the grey filter holder.

I own a Krups 1010 pod coffee maker that uses this filter. For some reason local retailers have stopped carrying these filters and other Krups products. Bought this unit two months ago and it did fine--although not really adequate--for our open loft space of about 800 SF. On the plus side, it is convenient in that it vents through the window and is portable. However, having read other reviews it seems ours is not the monster cooling machine that some folks seem to have.It did pretty well until we had our recent heat wave, at which point it kept giving the FL error message (need to empty water) and shutting itself off. According to the manual, this should not have to be done in AC mode, but we figured "hey, it''s a heat wave and really humid; makes sense, right?"
The first time this happened about a week ago, we emptied the water (not much of it) and it ran again for a few days before shutting off again. This progressed from shutting off every day, to every few hours, to its current status of shutting off immediately even though there is no water in it! It won''t run AT ALL.
We called LG and followed instructions again to reset, clean filters, vacuum any dust/pet hair (which was already done), to no avail. This was followed by removing the color and meticulously cleaning the entire interior to make sure there was no dust in there. As of right now, we have a service call set up to see if a pro can''t get it working again. Needless to say, this is super-frustrating because we''re suffering record-breaking heat.

This design is excellent for emergency A/C use, or if the other types of A/C are impractical for the room. It exhausts hot air out the window that it sucks in through other household windows/doors i.e., a corresponding quantity of [warm] outside air is being pulled into the room you''re trying to cool, from other places in your house. Thus, this design is less efficient, electric-usage wise, than a window A/C unit; and far less efficient than a central A/C, or a ductless A/C.
The unit itself is 33" high, 18.5" wide, 14" deep, and it has to be about a foot out from the window to give the 6" flexible exhaust hose room to bend.
this unit is called "portable", which is technically valid since it''s on wheels. However, it has to be exhausted through a window after installing the supplied widow trim. That means it has to stay at the window where that trim is mounted. In other words, it''s not portable if it''s being used. The only time it will be rolled more than a few inches is when it''s not "installed". A truly portable unit could be rolled to, and used, anywhere there''s a 115 v receptacle.
LG includes variable-width trim to install at the bottom or side (on a slider) of a window, that the unit''s 6" exhaust hose plugs into. These plastic parts are pretty thin, so be careful they don''t crack. Screw it to the window frame to hold it in place if it is to stay there awhile. However, since an installation is only for a few days, duct tape can be used to hold it in place and seal the opening. After the emergency, just peel the duct tape off and remove the trim.
One end of the 6" exhaust hose snaps into the base unit and the other end snaps into that window trim. The ends of this hose are thin plastic and could be broken; so be careful.
One year warranty is fairly typical.
Summary:
If the above description meets your needs, this unit is probably comparable to any "portable" A/C in this BTU range.

I looked at some of the other reviews after I had already purchased the product and am somewhat displeased with the negative feedback on this unit.To start off, I live in Texas, I awoke one morning to find that my 35000 BTU Window unit was acting up. I went down to my local home depot and purchased this unit, the price wasn''t bad comparable to the prices of other portable units I''ve seen in the past. Installation was quick and easy, except there is a bad design flaw in which the connector for the exhaust hose to the window frame is very short and doesn''t give much room before fattening out. Essentially has trouble locking in to the window frame because of the window sill, but that is for a vertical opening window, wouldn''t see having the problem with a horizontal opening window. I placed the unit in my living room so we could have a sanctuary from the heat until my window unit gets checked out, Its a little bit less than a 20x20 room but has 12ft ceilings. Has no problem making this room extremely comfortable, the auto swing feature helps to ensure even coverage of cool air in the room. Love not having to run a drainage hose and the window installation is rather quick, I moved it to my bedroom in about 10 mins. It does have an air intake but I don''t see much negative pressure being created as other reviewers have said nor does it pull warm or hot air from other areas. The heat from the exhaust outside is bearable and the hose isn''t hot to the touch after continual use. And in general a lot of reviews complain about BTU rating not being correct for most AC units, since having these tall ceilings I have had to learn to take that into account for square footage for the area to be cooled. I assume they are basing that most dwellings down have high ceiling and anyone with high ceilings or open loft areas need to take this into account. User error not Unit error :). Overall I am pleased with this product regardless of its very few minor flaws

OK, I have had this humidifier for about two months now. Make sure you are aware of the requirements of a filter-free humidifier before you buy one. First of all, I couldn''t stand having a filtered humidifier. Constantly having to buy filters, they''d be out of stock at Target, unavailable for my brand at the supermarket, just too annoying, and honestly, they''re several bucks every time. Why can''t I just clean my own humidifier?So here''s the thing. If you opt to go filter free, read the documentation. I think a lot of the negative reviewers here aren''t following the instructions... you have to clean your humidifier ONCE A WEEK. And yes, I would say, it''s a bit of stretch to call this whisper quiet. Like any device running while you''re trying to sleep, you''re going to hear it. And when you''re lying down trying to fall asleep, anything can sound like a freight train. But yes, I would not call this whisper quiet. It''s just as loud as any other humidifier I''ve experienced. Being someone who likes to sleep in pitch dark, though, I''d say the very bright on-light is more annoying than the sound. I find the whisping whirr of it quite calming.
And the bottom line here is, I''ve slept wonderfully since I bought it. I wake up and find that I''ve been breathing through my nose instead of mouth-breathing like I had been. Because my sinuses are staying open and moistened.
So there you have it. If you want to go filter-free, you''re taking on the task of cleaning it. Three quick release screws, soaking the base and intake tube in white vinegar, rinsing, putting it back together.
We don''t have mold issues (even though very often if it is not in use we forget to take the water out...and to take the water out is recommended)
It makes the room humid enough (windows are wet the next morning) the best thing for cold/coughing instead of dry air.
Yes it makes quit a lot of noise when it is running but it doesn''t cause a problem for my 2 girls to feel or stay in sleep.
And yes we had the first time we used also the waterproblem as we didn''t put it back right. But after that never had a problem again...
They are both still working!

I''ve had this unit for five months and dropped the Protect cartridge in there every month on the 12th to keep it clean. Despite these efforts, it has developed a pink film along with black mold that you can smell when it operates. I''m having trouble breathing. The area that is affected is IMPOSSIBLE to get to in order to clean it even with pressurized air. My unit has also flooded on two occassions destroying everything on my dresser.I contacted Kaz who makes the unit. They said they would replace it but I''d be out of a unit for 6-8 weeks and I''d have to pay shipping costs. They will not replace it with another unit so I''m sure the same problem will reoccur. I decided to clean the unit the best that I can (this took 2 hours) and use liquid bacteriostatic water treatment instead of the worthless Protect cartridges. I hope this works.

For me this has worked perfectly for months now, keeping the air in the room with my guitar at just the right humidity. I bought mine elsewhere but have had others and this one works just fine if you know what you are doing and take precautions. Not for every one, but for most, the red / orange is not mold but iron in your water. For most but not all, the white powder is lime in your water. This is a fact of life for many areas of the country and why people use water filters and water softeners. If you are in a problem area, use a Brita pitcher to filter the water you fill it with. I have tried it with our softened water with no problems but we recently got rid of the softener and will soon be switching to truly filtered water for the entire house. Until then I use a filtered water pitcher. All humidifiers have this problem. Even Consumers gave none more then an average rating for this problem. Baking soda, light bleach mixture, special cleaner, or just let it completely dry out once in a while and you, as I am, will probably be happy with the unit. Mine is still running clear and clean. As so many others have stated, this product is a complete waste of money, and, I believe, a health hazard. If I could give it "0" stars I would. Despite my best efforts to use filtered water, a ProTec cartridge, and disinfect all reachable parts on a weekly basis with vinegar and/or bleach, mold has grown in the motor housing that is impossible to reach in order to properly sanitize this product. After contacting Kaz, I was told the same thing as so many others (I was hoping maybe they had changed their policy), that I would have to send the item back on my own dime, just to receive the same piece of junk as a replacement. Then, once I received the new one, I should "empty all the water from the tank and base (daily). Then run the unit without any water in it for at least 1 hour to dry the fan housing. If you do not want to run the unit without any water I would just remove the fan housing and unscrew the bottom cover and lay the fan housing on its side so it can air dry." Yeah, like I have the time to do that every day with two small children and one on the way. So this humidifier will probably end up in the trash, a waste of $45 + tax.FYI, in the last couple of weeks I have purchased a Crane humidifier which doesn''t require a filter either (unless you have hard water), for less money, and so far I haven''t had any issues with it. It does its job perfectly! From now on, I will not be purchasing any more Vicks/Kaz products due to their complete lack of concern that they have sold a health hazard and aren''t taking any responsibility to rectify the situation.

This product came out recently and only requires that the filter be changed about every 6 months or so, when the soap stops getting bubbly when you use it. It is very easr to use and you don''t even have to take it apart like home water filters. You turn a knob which diverts the water, replace the filter, and turn the knob back on. We moved in to our new home in June 2012. Because our water is off the hardness scale, we installed a NuvoH2O system. I am able to keep our chrome, porcelain, and stainless steel fixtures looking new. This is not relying only on the water system. We squeegee the shower after each use. I wipe down the chrome and stainless steel after each use. I use Barkeeper''s friend if I need additional help. All this may sound like a lot, but in looking at our neighbor''s fixtures, who I know also clean frequently, it would be impossible without the Nuvo system. While a Blueair MD Pro sits by one side of the bed, a KC-860 sits by the other. An IQAir HealthPro Plus is situated in the family room with a second KC-860 not far away. Lose one point for not retaining the timer and remote control found in previous generation FP models. As of February 2011, the KC-860 is the most powerful stand-alone PIC, room purification unit available to the general public as a consumer purchase. Despite its rather flimsy carbon filter and tested in various bathrooms and a kitchen, the KC-860 does an excellent job of controlling odors so long as the Plasmacluster feature is used. Pre-filter is built into the unit housing (ala Austin Air) for ease of maintenance. KC-860 uses the same exact filters as do KC-100U/KC-150U/KC-850U for ease of filter sourcing. The fan is very quiet on the lowest setting, which was important to me as the unit will run continuously. The electronic dust sensor is phenomenal. It really does detect dust in the air that''s too small to see. I have the machine 6 feet from my cat''s litter box, and within a minute of my cleaning the cat''s mess from the litter box, the Sharp''s sensor display changes from green to orange and then red, and the fan kicks into high gear. After a few minutes of cleaning the air, the display returns to green and the fan slows to its normal quiet speed. The display is actually entertaining to look at -it comprises four vertical plus/star icons that can change color and/or blink softly to indicate various amounts of contaminants in the air. To allow tailoring of the sensor to one''s environment, it''s sensitivity can be set to any of three settings (low, med, high), to either increase or decrease the amount of contaminants required to make the machine increase fan speed. It is also possible to manually set the fan speed. The front panel indicator lights can be dimmed or shut off for nighttime use in bedrooms. One benefit of the contaminant sensor display is that it enables optimal placement of the machine to filter the air -simply place the machine in various locations, note the site at which the sensor indicates highest contaminant level, and place the unit there.
The plasmacluster feature is very quiet; a soft clicking can be heard only if one puts their head to the machine. It can be disabled, for those who may be anxious about potential health risks. From what I''ve seen researching the potential health effects online, there are no scientifically valid explanations of actual health risks from plasmacluster. The feature is supposed to kill germs in the air, and as my primary purpose of this unit is to clean the dust/smell of cat litter from the air, I am glad to have the feature.
This unit is fairly compact about the height of a dehumidifier but a bit skinnier. Although the instructions state to place the unit 1-2 feet from the wall for optimal air flow (intake vents are on rear, output vent is on top), I have found the unit performs fine when even when only about 8 inches from the wall.
An added bonus of this unit is it has a humidifier built in, along with a digital humidity read-out, reducing the number of space consuming appliances required in wintertime.
The HEPA filter is rated to last 5 years, so hopefully consumables will not be overly expensive.
The instruction manual is well-written and easy to follow. All in all, an excellent product!

APRIL AIRE 360 HUMIDIFIER
Like others, I was tired of constantly filling and cleaning my console humidifier. The Aprilaire 360/350 is the only whole-house unit I could find that works independently of a forced air heating system, so it was the only choice for my home with radiant floors. Buyers should be aware that Aprilaire requires installation to be performed by an HVAC professional, or else the warranty is void. I chose to install it myself, and the money saved on professional installation would easily pay for a replacement unit if ever needed.The first thing I noticed after unpacking the unit was a manufacture date nearly 3 years prior. They must not sell many of these. The second thing I noticed was a screw in the bottom of the box. It was one of the motor mounting screws which had fallen out, and the nut was missing. This screw also connects a ground wire to the case, so the wire was hanging loose inside the unit. I located a replacement nut and reinstalled the screw. Every other screw holding the unit together was also loose.
I had no problems with installation. I discarded the self piercing saddle valve that comes with the unit and instead used a tee fitting to tap off a supply line from a nearby sink. The drain tube must not have a "trap" where it exits the unit or it will overflow. The outlet grille is almond or ivory color, I painted mine white but that''s just my personal preference. They should offer them in different colors, the plastic grille is somewhat difficult to paint properly.
Upon powering up the humidifier for the first time I was surprised to find that the fan is a lot quieter than my Holmes console humidifier, but I also noticed that it doesn''t move much air. More on that later. There is a fairly loud hissing noise from the water supply line, similar to the sound of a dishwasher filling. The water flow rate is controlled by an orifice in the outlet of the solenoid valve. The orifice causes a hissing noise as the water is forced through it. I thought I''d get used to it, but after one day I couldn''t stand it any more. I removed the orifice and installed a pressure regulator on the supply line. This completely eliminated the noise, and by adjusting the pressure I am able to limit the amount of water that gets wasted by going down the drain. Some excess water flow is required in order to get a decent amount of humidity out of the unit. 5 psi puts it right about where it was with the orifice and full pressure, but without the hissing noise. I removed the "Filter Check" gauge from my old console humidifier and stuck it on the outlet grille of the 360 so I can monitor the effects of my changes. It''s a direct indicator of the moisture level of the air coming out of the humidifier.
So on to the lack of airflow. I can tolerate a bit more fan noise and my warranty was already void, so I began looking into a faster fan motor. Upon inspecting the motor to find the specs, I noticed the fan blade was not aligned with the shroud. It was set back too far to be effective. This may be done intentionally at the factory to limit fan noise. I moved the fan forward and noticed an immediate improvement in airflow and as a result it also makes slightly more noise as the air exits the grille. It now moves enough air to pull the closet door closed, which it didn''t do before. I need to leave the door cracked open until I can install an inlet grille in the door.
Aprilaire says this unit requires hot water. They recommend installing a small dedicated water heater if the main hot water source is too far away to supply consistent 120 degree water temp. I hooked into a hot water line with 9 feet of 1/4" copper tubing, but the total distance to the heat source is much further. The small amount of flow that this unit uses is not enough to sustain hot water in the pipes unless a sink or shower is running, so 99% of the time it is getting cold water. It still works fine. I''m sure it would work better with hot water, but it does work with cold water. When it is getting hot water, the excess water going down the drain is cold so there is not much energy wasted on heating the water, most of the heat is put into the air.
The manual humidistat that''s supplied with the unit is just adequate. It seems to have about a 5-7% RH differential. Maybe this is normal for humidifiers or maybe it''s done to prevent short cycles. I have two separate hygrometers in different parts of the room about 15 feet away from the humidifier. With a setpoint of 35% the humidity will drop as low as 28% and then the unit will run until it reaches 33-35%. I think a 1 or 2% differential would be more comfortable. My console humidifier did a much better job of maintaining a constant humidity as long as I remembered to fill it. I will be upgrading to a combo thermostat/humidistat with automatic outdoor temp reset.
Overall I am pretty pleased with the Aprilaire 360. I think build quality should be improved (loose screws, poorly positioned fan blade). It''s a very simple device and I believe it''s greatly overpriced, but there is no alternative that I''m aware of. For the price I think they should include a high quality humidistat that displays current humidity level, and different colored grilles. I love what the unit does, but I rated it three stars because of high price and lack of quality control.
My place is about 2,300 sq. ft and the humidity shot to more than 50% in the first 12 hours of operation. This unit is basically perfect regarding the size, cost and ease of installation. A professional should be able to install this unit in less than three hours. I would recommend this unit to my grandmother and probably will.
Since I gave this unit 4 stars instead of 5 my ONLY complaint is that the unit is a little loud. The fan is strong but not silent. I will contact the manufacturer and update this review based on their suggestion. However depending on the location where you install this unit it might not matter. Additionally this fan noise might be consistent with the noise of most other units so take my comments with a grain of salt.
I installed the unit near our main intake vent for our heating system to spread the humidity throughout the house when using the fan or the heating system.

I am glad I bought this unit. I was so tired of daily filling, draining and cleaning my console humidifier, and the crusty white stuff that accumulated on it (not to mention the slime mold that grew in the tank if I didn''t clean it with bleach.) This unit connects to your hot water line and to a drain, so it supplies its own water and continuously cleans itself. There''s no crusty white stuff, you just set the humistat and forget about it. It''s fairly quiet, too.Though the unit is fairly small (about 13 inches square) and not heavy (15 lbs.) it''s more than adequate to completely humidify our 1600 sq. ft. home.
I don''t know about energy usage or reliability because I just started using it, but so far the performance has been wonderful.

I lost $600 on this journey, and went back to changing $2 paper filters once/month in a standard whole house canister water filter system. Shame on Morton for their horrible customer service as well. I used this on concrete on a home built in 2010. I didn''t know I had to sweep away scott''s fertilizer off of concrete so it ended up leaving prange rusts stains from the iron in the fertilizer on the concrete after our sprinkler''s water mixed with the fertilizer causing the stains. Bought this product based on the reviews. This product did make the concrete white but didn''t do anything to the orange rust stains like described. I used as directed and even used a hard steel bristle brush to scrub the orange stains out with this product but it did not work. A problem that I had after using this product was that certain parts of my driveway were left white and the parts that none of this was used on left dirty so i suggest buying a considerable amount for application if you plan on just whitening your concrete. I would suggest in looking into muriatic acid also called hydrochloric acid for orange rust stains as which I am doing of right now. There is a youtube video just youtube how to etch concrete video 2 i believe and watch it and also search on how to use muriatic acid on concrete and there are different websites that have tutorials. I was skeptical about the product working as well as advertised, but it worked great removing rust stains from white vinyl siding with no elbow grease needed. Just spray on and wait about 3 to five minutes and the stain disappears via a chemical reaction, then use a garden hose to rinse down the area. There are a few warnings on the bottle to wet shrubs before and after using the product near them, wearing rubber gloves and eye protection(product contains an acid). You should avoid wetting the siding before using the product, the siding near the shrubs got wet and the product did not work as quickly in that area, so I waited for it to dry and reapplied and it worked great. The slim form factor has a smaller footprint and takes up less space, but it also puts more weight on the handle and the body every time you pick it up. So most of the complaints about cracking are due to the slim oval design, and not just the thickness of the pitcher. How do you compensate for that? Simply use your other hand to hold the front of the pitcher when you pick it up and relieve some of the pressure on the body and handle.
The other common complaint has to do with the design of the lid, which seems to make the pitcher difficult to fill. But after the first time, the lid opens much more easily. Simply put your thumb into the back tab of the lid an it will open easily. What''s more, this model has the added benefit of having a nice seal when closed, so refrigerator odors won''t get into your water. Just make sure to wait till your water has gone through the filter before putting it away, to avoid spilling.
Other than the obvious savings of cutting down on bottled water and the plastic waste that comes with it, the best feature of this pitcher has to be the filter. As a long-time Brita user, I got tired of the filter material ending up in my water. Not only does the two stage filter of this model screw in securely, it has less seepage of filter material. And of course, most importantly, the water tastes great. I can''t comment on whether or not it removed more bacteria, because I didn''t run any scientific tests. But the taste was definitely an improvement over other filters.
Now there is a larger dispenser that may be better for those with space in their fridge for it. Obviously you will have less breakage issues, but it takes up much more room. So it''s a trade-off.
The flashing indicator on the top is meant to calculate how many refills you have gone through, and it will tell you when you have to change your filter. Even at $20 for a three pack, this system basically comes out to $60 a year for filters and the pitcher. Not bad, even if you had to replace the pitcher every year.
Overall, despite the warts this is a good product. If you don''t have the room for the larger dispenser, or the faucet mount, then this will work for you. Just handle it with care.

The functional design of the pitcher, however, could easily be better. Its pour spout is open to the air, while Brita''s is covered, leaving the water exposed to dust, as well as to odors in the fridge. It''s the equivalent of leaving a bottle of water uncapped all day or longer.
In addition, removing the top in order to add water requires more effort than it should; whoever designed it doesn''t seem to have considered that the top must be separated from the filtration chamber. (For that purpose I''ve developed a technique where I pull the chamber up with my left hand while my right thumb releases the top from it.)
The LED light on top of the lid is activated by pouring, simply by the tilt of the pitcher. It''s supposed to measure the amount of water you pour so you know when to get a new filter. If you pour one glass at a time, this will probably give you an accurate measurement. However, if you pour fractions of a glass, or potfulls, or if you tilt the lid when you remove it, it becomes a not very useful gimmick.
Despite the issues with the pitcher, which I hope someone at PUR takes seriously, the quality of the water makes this a product I''d recommend.

I have had my Pur Pitcher for about 3 weeks now with no problems. I fill it in the sink, sit it on the counter for about 10 minutes to let it filter a bit and then stick it in the fridge.We use it for a quick glass of water, to fill the coffee pot, or for anything else we feel we want cleaner-than-tap water for.
We certainly do notice a different in taste. The Pur water definitely tastes cleaner. I think we have decent city water to start with, so I am sure that helps with the filtration life, but I do wish it was at least 3 stage and not 2 stage.
I also wich it could fill itself. My significant other usually forgets the recipe for water and I am stuck filling the coffee pot with tap water in the morning ;)

Still works like a charm. No cracks that others complained about. Just change the filter regularly and you have delicious, refreshing, clean water. And I am happy to report the GF learned to fill it up when she empties it ;)

I purchased this water filter pitcher to replace a Brita Pitcher after I learned that Brita filters don''t filter out any microbes or pharmaceuticals, but only chlorine, etc. The design is great. When you pour from the pitcher, the LED flashes, indicating the status of the filter. Though it may filter a tad slower than the Brita filter, the time difference is not significant, and the fact that it removes 96% of pharmaceuticals, and microbial cysts makes it well worth it.
