Carpet Rake

Carpet RakeIf you purchased this with assisting with dog hair this is not the one. I lost my old one in a move so I purchased this one. the bristles are flimsy and do not make any difference like my old one did. I am going to do to a professional cleaning supply store and get one similar to my old one. Very disappointed.

I got the carpet rake for my Dad, he loves it!! Its so easy to rake the carpet and it looks great. He is very happy with it.

This tool was great for extracting hair that was embedded in the carpet fibers. When using it, the best results were obtained by applying varying degrees of pressure. For instance, hair on the surface of a carpet seemed to best removed by just gently skimming the rake just over the top.

Premium 10-Stage Water Filter

Premium 10-Stage Water FilterOur water definitely tastes better and it is cheaper than buying water at the local filtering source. I was disappointed that the water does not taste really good. I like that it is free of chemicals and minerals. I wish it tasted better

at first the water tasted a little "off" but after about two weeks the water tastes great. installation was super easy and all parts appear to be durable and well made. not really related to the product but I used some light duty zip ties to secure the hose to the faucet arm to keep it up and out of the way.

Buy Premium 10-Stage Water Filter Now

The filter is great in that it does an obvious job of making my tap water even more palitable. I can even tell the difference between the local eateries that either do not use or use ineffective filtering systems and those who are more careful with their water filters. [The thing seriously improves the taste of my iced tea which is important and much more noticable if you drink it unsweetened.] My DOG even knows the difference -he refuses to drink the unfiltered water at this point! The life of the filter and ease of use has me using filtered water in all my cooking and even some in cleaning fresh vegetables. I''d love to have a version I could put on my bathroom sink so I could use it to brush my teeth and wash my face -sadly space is an obstacle. This filter is a great improvement over my last filter because it will filter hot water -my last filter had a warning that hot and even warm water would ruin the filter. Since I can filter hot water, it''s easier to use some convience foods without the extra step of heating the water so it saves on energy costs.

The pin that makes the water go through the filter can be a little tricky. It sticks at times and will stay in place so I''ll get filtered water that is unplanned but I generally just use it unless I''m washing dishes. The problem is really due to the fact that the water pressure in my house is inconsistent, so I can''t really fault the filter, but it is a flaw which is why I rated the product as ''liked it'' insted of ''loved it''.

Can I use hot water with my 10 Stage Water Filter?

The 10 Stage Water Filter is for use with cold water only. The reason for this is that the filter contains 2 stages of carbon filtration and carbon deteriorates with exposure to hot water. If you run hot water through the 10 Stage Water Filter, it will dramatically shorten the life of the filter and may even, if enough hot water passes though, destroy the 10 Stage''s filtering ability. However, please do not worry if hot water passes inadvertently through the filter for only a brief period. A second or two of exposure will not cause any damage.

The statement above can be found on the New Wave Enviro Website FAQ''s.

This filter is excellent and gives my ice tea a very smooth, non-bitter taste. If it filters half as much as its specs, it is still very potent. I requested the lab tests and according to the certified testing lab the 1500 gallon capacity is completely true. I buy this filter with confidence.

Adya AC16OZ Clarity 16 Ounce Ionic Mineral Solution

Adya AC16OZ Clarity 16 Ounce Ionic Mineral SolutionI really want Adya to live up to the hype. We need things like this desperately in these times. However, I''m very skeptical of its claims based on the very limited actual information available to me. So instead of talking about what health benefits you feel, I''ll throw out here in this review what I have unmistakably noticed objectively. My water bottle always stinks after being out hiking all day. The water tastes flat and the bottle stinks, especially in the summer. When I put adya clarity into this water the bottles don''t stink. I used it primarily for this purpose, so I didn''t have to keep washing my stinky bottles every day. The water also definitely taste better with Adya, too, most noticeably after being out hiking all day, the water didn''t taste as "flat." I''ve repeated this experiment over a year''s time, with the smell and flat taste. Adya also does cause stuff to precipitate out of water visibly. I''ve done the experiments like the one Matt Monarch did on the episode, and it does indeed work. More yellowish settling at the bottom with tap water than with purified water. Some really clean waters precipitate out nothing visible. So this much is true about Adya. What it can do for you, I''d like more research on, please.

Berkey Light Water Filter System

Berkey Light Water Filter System with 2 Black Berkey FiltersMy family got one of these about a year or two ago and I think everyone appreciates it. This thing filters water better than I could have imagined. After drinking mainly from this, I can taste the chemicals (or whatever''s adding the funny taste) even in bottled water.

The biggest problem is it''s going to make having to drink other water quite painful (well, the filters and the intensely slow speed of this can be a pain sometimes too).

I''d long heard stories from homesteading friends and off-grid families about how great the Berkey purifiers are, and now I know first hand. This purifier is considered the absolute best for off-grid and outdoor applications it filers bacteria, chemicals, and all kinds of gunk completely out or to below detectable levels. You can even filter dirty pond and lake water into useable water.

We are renovating a rural house, and gutted it completely no electric, no nothing. We bought the Berkey so we would have water when we camped out in the house. It is awesome we pump some water out of the well with a portable pump and run it through the Berkey, and it is crystal clear and completely pure. Our well hadn''t been pumped in five years and it was *really* dirty still, perfect water once we filtered it through the Berkey. It''s remarkably quick too 4 gallons an hour. We even put our gravity-shower water through it, just cause we can.

We bought the Berkey Light model with the LEDs in the base. I originally thought that a row of LEDs in the base of my water purifier was silly, but I have to admit, it''s pretty cool. The LEDs are on rechargeable batteries and it makes a neat little nightlight.

My son bought a website called [..], several years ago that sells both the British Berkefeld and Berkey brand water filters. As a way of becoming familiar with the product I researched the field fairly thoroughly. Although we sell filters from other manufacturers I was most impressed by the features of the Berkey.

I lived in Mexico for the last four years and discovered that even the Mexicans don''t drink the water but depend on bottled water for their drinking and cooking water. I used the Berkey water filter with the Black Berkey elements as my exclusive source of drinking water. I found it to be an excellent investment.

No system is perfect; every one I have researched has advantages and limitations. The Berkey seems to have the most advantages and the fewest limitations. We know the manufacturer of the filter personally and their research is credible. They are based in the USA.

The features of the Berkey that make it my first choice are:

It is relatively low cost between $220 for the small Travel Berkey to $350 for the large Crown Berkey (I gave several of these units to local orphanages who were spending much of their limited finances on bottled water),

It requires little maintenance I would clean my filter elements about once every two months,

The effectiveness of their filter although they do not equal the water quality of reverse osmosis or distillation, both of which I have also used,

The quality is very high.

They require no plumbing or electricity to operate, making them an excellent source of water in an emergency or in Mexico where both water and electricity can be intermittant. In the small village where I lived the water and electricity is on ccassion interrupted. I live by a lake and would get water from the lake to supply my Berkey and then myself with drinking and cooking water. For those living "off the grid" it is an important feature. If you don''t think having an emergency source of drinking water is important just ask some of the folks stuck without it after Katrina hit New Orleans.

They are very durable, being made either of stainless steel or Lexan in the case of the Berkey Light,

They are portable which makes them convenient to use while traveling, which I do a lot of in Mexico or to take with while camping or any extended activity in the outdoors.

The same manufacturer makes a portable bottle version which has all the same characteristics of the large Berkey in a 24 oz squeeze bottle.

I am death on bottled water which is simply one of the most ridiculous ways of providing drinking water to people that has been devised. You have to admire the marketing however. They have people walking into a gas station convenience store complaining about the high cost of gas, who go to the counter and pay more per gallon for a bottle of water then for the gas, without blinking an eye at the irony.

Any way, that''s my two cents worth.

Our web site is [..] and we would love to get some feed back on the products we offer and anyone''s experience with them.

The elements seem good for filtering water, but will not remove flouride. The parts are all very flimsy especially the plastic tap, which seems like it will wear out quickly. The lid is just a nylon cap that slips over the top. For $209 I expected more. BEWARE, you will NOT get the 2 extra elements as stated in the description. I e-mailed a representative of this company, he nicely told me it was a mistake by Amazon that could not be changed. Take that for what it''s worth.

We purchased a Berkey for our household. We have well water that has slight odor and taste. The water from the Berkey tastes great!

Unfortunately, the black filters fell apart-in less than 3 months! After checking the website and finding they were defective, I sent an email and was sent replacement filters and returned the used, broken filters. We were able to enjoy our filtered water again! That was, up until a few days ago when I found the replacement filter broken (just as the previous filter was). This set also lasted about 3 mos. much less than the websites'' claim of 3,000 gallons of water!

The company has a new "prorated warranty" for the filters and will replace them, possibly for free based on the amount of time you have had them, after you fill out some paperwork and send your filters back. Mine would be free, but after this experience, I do not have much trust in the company. Who has time for this every few months?

They admitted their product was defective, replaced it-with yet another defective product, combined with a customer service phone number that no one answers and no returned phone calls, I feel ripped off! I just wish I could get a refund and return their products, but nope, I''m outside the 60-day limit and they will not allow a refund on the defective filters either!

Truly Disappointed!

Sprite Original Handheld Shower Filter Save 26% Off

Sprite Original Handheld Shower Filteri wanted a filtered shower because i have sensitive skin, and after reading all the great reviews on filtered showers making skin and hair softer and healthier, decided to try one. Well, i can''t tell any difference whatsoever in my hair or skin after using this about a month now. perhaps there just wasn''t much chlorine in my water to begin with? i never had a problem with dry hair, just with sensitive, dry skin. anyway the showerhead itself is nice and i love the metal hose which hangs down nicely and doesn''t stick out like plastic ones. it''s also very easy to turn the head to adjust the spray setting, which i know on some other showerheads that part can be hard to grasp. i also like the types of sprays it has, there are two settings that feel really great. however, the water pressure''s a little decreased, and the handle itself could use some grips to make it easier to hold. it''s a good showerhead but i suspect there''s better ones on this website.

The original version had a metal bracket and adjusted properly. This one is plastic and the spray adjustments do not function properly. I will be returning it.

Watts 116054 Standard Faucet

Watts 116054 Standard Faucet with Air Gap, Stainless
  • Air Gap faucet to meet plumbing codes for reverse osmosis units
  • Meets all low lead NSF requirements
  • Multiple colors available for custom kitchens
  • Fits all under counter reverse osmosis water filter systems
  • Uses 1/4" Supply Tube

BEFORE YOU PURCHASE--if your old faucet is just leaking or making noise, see "maintenance" below.

QUALITY

The faucet is good quality. I used it to replace an identical one which had operated flawlessly for 20 years.

STYLE

The design is very convenient: The lever has three positions, 1) UP = open (conveniently for filling a pot), 2) closed, 3) DOWN = press-open, which is convenient for filling a glass---even with the hand you are holding the glass. Many more expensive faucets are "crank open" / "crank shut. The "giraffe neck" rotates 360 degrees, and so, if installed at the corner of a sink (or elsewhere), can fill a pot placed on the counter.

WHAT''S INCLUDED / WHAT''S NOT INCLUDED

Included: the faucet itself, hardware to install in the counter-top, and fittings to attach the blue tube to the faucet. NOT INCLUDED: any fittings to attach the 3 water tubes to the filters, drain, etc.

SUPPLIED INSTRUCTIONS

NO MEANINGFUL INSTRUCTIONS are included, and are incomplete for this faucet. The instructions printed on the box are for several different types of faucets, do NOT show you how to attach the blue tube, and do not helpfully identify the red and black tubes. If I had tried to install the faucet following the "instructions" I would have installed it wrong. Solution: Install the faucet according to the instructions which came with your water filter system, exactly as your previous faucet was installed.

INSTALLATION SUGGESTIONS

Note that you can install it as shown on the photo, or reversed with the lever toward the sink (which I think is more convenient).

Turn off the water supply to the water filter which is attached to the faucet you are replacing; open the old faucet an let it drain until no more water comes out (the same steps you''d take for replacing filters).

Blue tube: attach to the "stud" on the bottom of the faucet with the supplied fittings (nylon ferrule and compression nut)

Red tube: pre-attached, "brine input"

Black tube: pre-attached, "brine output"--i.e., waste water line to your kitchen sink drain-line

You will probably have to remove part of your osmosis system to gain access. When disconnecting your old system, label each connection you disconnect on both sides. Use a 2" to 3" strip of painter''s tape and fold it over in half to make a tab to write on (and use a permanent marker). Number the connections 1, 2, 3, etc. Remember to label BOTH sides of the connection with the SAME number (1 connects to 1, 2 connects to 2, 3 connects to 3, etc.). Disconnect as few water lines as you can. As a backup, take closeup photos with your digital camera of every connection which you plan to disconnect AFTER labeling and BEFORE disconnecting.

Preparing for installation of the new faucet. Assemble the spacer, washer, and nut on the faucet (leave about 1/2" for the thickness of your counter). Install the blue line on the faucet using the supplied hardware (a nylon ferrule and a compression nut). It is a good idea to install the fittings on the other ends of the tubes at this point (you will probably have to reuse them from your old faucet connections).

Lower the tubes through the hole in your counter-top, until the new faucet is in place. Decide on which direction you want the lever to point. From underneath, slide the "split washer" in place between the counter-top and the spacer, and tighten the nut. (You should have the right size box wrench ready--space and visibility are likely to be very tight, and it is hard to determine what the right size is blindly. Alternatively, you can use a deep socket wrench (if you have one of the right size), and install the blue tube later. Many faucet installation kits include such a socket--this one doesn''t). Note that the space may be very right---pliers or an adjustable wrench probably won''t work.

Attach the blue and red tubes to your filter system and the black tube to your sink drain. It is best not to cut the red or blue tubes, even if they are too long, because their length provides easier access to the system for maintenance (you can move the tank and/or filters temporarily without disconnecting the lines). However the black drain tub should probably be cut so the waste water flows straight to the drain, without a dip in which the waste water can collect. Ideally, the black waste line should be as short and as steep as possible. Important: if you must cut a blue or red tube, cut it with a very sharp blade (such as a utility knife with a new sharp blade), absolutely perpendicular.

FIXING LEAKS AFTER NEW INSTALLATIONS--see also "maintenance" below

After installing the new faucet, you should monitor the system for at least 12 hours for leaks--they can develop slowly. If there is a leak you can''t find, tie strips of paper kitchen towels around the tubes and place paper towels at other strategic points; check after about 15 minutes and the source of the leak should be obvious.

Although the fittings are designed to install without plumber''s thread tape, or plumber''s paste, if after reasonably tightening them, they still leak, then plumber''s pipe tape or paste will help. You can use "Plumber''s Goop" on the threads rather than traditional plumber''s pipe paste. For Goop to work best, the fittings should be dry before you assemble them. Eclectic Products Inc 3.7Oz Plumbing Goop 150011 Thread Tape & Paste

If that fails, you can use a blob of "Plumber''s Goop" on the outside of the fitting as a sealant to stop the leak. In the latter case, you MUST allow the "Plumber''s Goop" to harden for at least TWO FULL days before turning on the water to the filter/faucet. Plumber''s Goop used this way can be reinforced by embeding dental floss in the wet glue. I sometimes use Goop as a backup on fittings that are NOT leaking, but using Goop this way can make the connection difficult or impossible to disassemble at some later time.

NOTE that a tiny leak in any part of your kitchen plumbing can easily cause hundreds (even thousands) of dollars worth of damage. A leak detector is strongly recommended. Zircon Leak Alert Electronic Water Detector, 1-Pack Such a detector warned of a leak in my hot-water-heater cabinet before irreparable damage was done.

ROUTINE NOISE

In normal operation the air-gap causes a dripping noise (usually for about 5 to 15-minutes immediately after using a quantity of water from your reverse osmosis system). If the water supplies an ice-maker, you can hear the dripping at other times. According to the Watt company, most of that noise is actually the waste water splashing into the pool of waste water in the elbow below your sink---so (according to Watt), a heavy nylon fishing line in the black waste water line leading into your sink drain and down to the elbow can minimize the noise, providing a path for the waste water to flow, but I have not tried that, because the noise doesn''t bother me. Theoretically, a sink strainer in the closed position should completely muffle the sound (but I use a simple screen instead which catches more stuff). Besides, the dripping sound is a good way to monitor that the system is working properly.

MAINTENANCE

After about 6 months of use, the black waste-water tube can become clogged with a bacterial mat. If you pay attention, there is an odd choking gurgling sound when the tube is almost clogged. When it is clogged, the waste water will leak from the faucet itself out onto your counter. Note that it is actually designed to do this, which is why instructions usually specify mounting the faucet at the edge of a sink (assuming that most of the overflow will flow into the sink). The solution is to regularly clean the waste-water tube. The best way I''ve found is with an 18" length of "weed-whacker" cord. Detach the tube from your sink waste-line, and feed the "weed-whacker cord" into the tube and scrub it out. If you''ve had a root-canal procedure, you know how it''s done. Note that the bacterial mat is a nasty sludge---have an old cloth towel handy to catch the gunk. I recently purchased a "beer line brush" Draft Beer Line Hose Cleaning Brush: 3/16" diameter, which works well---the 1/4" diameter model would probably also work.

Since physically cleaning out the gunk the last time, I''ve been sqirting a few drops of Clorox into the air-gap hole (in the faucet housing). The follow bottle, which works well for this purpose is $3 at the Container Store Nalgene Plastic Drop Bottle. Note that on this and similar models, the air gap is beneath the lever, opposite the girafe neck. For access, pull the girafe neck up, and slide the lever forward (in the direction of the girafe neck). The "air gap" is the hole which contains the black plastic insert (leave the plastic insert alone, it is the tiny "faucet" where the the red water line discharges into the air gap). To reassemble, push the lever backward (in the direction of the air gap), so that the legs slide under the "T", and then push the girafe neck back into place. In the more recent models (those which are domed cylinders without the flat sides), the air gap is accessible, a hole on the back side---perhaps for the very purpose of making the air gap easier to sanitize.

LEAKING (see also "maintenance")

If the faucet leaks ONLY when you are using it (usually after 10 years or so off use), then the problem may be the o-ring seals. You can just pull the "giraffe neck" straight up, and replace the o-rings. LIGHTLY lubricate the o-rings with silicon grease. Permatex 22058 Dielectric Tune-up Grease 3 oz. It is a good idea to dab a little bit of the silicon grease where the lever rubs against the giraffe neck to minimize wear---and for noticeable smoother operation. If you don''t happen to have a tube of silicon grease, buy one---it is terrific for rejuvenating any rubber items and for improving electrical connections---even fixing computer problems.

DON''T PANIC

Yes that nasty sewage-like sludge in the waste line is scary stuff---but the "air gap" is a separate system with only shares the faucet structure---the good water supply is entirely separate from the "air gap" system. What about the possibility of the "contamination" growing it''s way into your reverse-osmosis filter?---"theoretically" it shouldn''t get past the air gap---but you could install an "inline check valve" in the red tube to minimize the possibility. If your reverse-osmosis waste-water line did not drain into your sink-waste pipe, then your reverse-osmosis waste water line could not get contaminated by the sludge growing in the elbow in the sink-waste pipe, and would not make even "routine" noise---hint.

Buy Watts 116054 Standard Faucet Now

I bought this faucet to replace the faucet with LED indicators that came with my 5-stages RO system from Watts Premier. I installed this faucet in a granite sink countertop. I had to cut the white plastic spacer by 1/4 inch to compensate for the width of the countertop. The brushed stainless steel matched the main sink faucet. Replacing the old faucet was not difficult at all.

Now I have my water system on top working condition.

Update: 3/26/11, This faucet has been fantastic. This is a high quality faucet. Love the look of stainless/nickel. Not sure why a couple of people have complained about grease on or in the faucet, mine was very clean with no grease at all.

Received my order today, It was the correct type, a Standard 3-Tube Air Gap Faucet for RO systems. The product is of high quality and exactly the type of faucet I expected.

Just an FYI: due to the corrosive properties of RO water and the brine water traveling through the Air Gap Faucet you should expect to need to replace the Air Gap Faucet every several years, I have needed to replace mine 3 times in 13 years. I think the next time I will just replace the whole RO system.

I gave it only 4 stars because I don''t know for sure which product I actually received. The Box is labeled Watts Premier Part# 116054 which according to the Watts website is the "Brushed Stainless Steel Air Gap Faucet" however the UPC tag# 9935-"116054", also on the box, clearly says "Brushed Nickel Air Gap Faucet" which is Watts Part# 116101, since brushed Nickel and Stainless look so similar I am not sure it is going to matter. But I will update after install and let you know which item I think I actually received. Perhaps Watts sells the same faucet under two descriptions and prices.

Update: I am fairly certain the faucet I received is Stainless Steel, even though the description on the box says "Brushed Nickel"

APRIL AIRE 360 HUMIDIFIER

APRIL AIRE 360 HUMIDIFIERLike others, I was tired of constantly filling and cleaning my console humidifier. The Aprilaire 360/350 is the only whole-house unit I could find that works independently of a forced air heating system, so it was the only choice for my home with radiant floors. Buyers should be aware that Aprilaire requires installation to be performed by an HVAC professional, or else the warranty is void. I chose to install it myself, and the money saved on professional installation would easily pay for a replacement unit if ever needed.

The first thing I noticed after unpacking the unit was a manufacture date nearly 3 years prior. They must not sell many of these. The second thing I noticed was a screw in the bottom of the box. It was one of the motor mounting screws which had fallen out, and the nut was missing. This screw also connects a ground wire to the case, so the wire was hanging loose inside the unit. I located a replacement nut and reinstalled the screw. Every other screw holding the unit together was also loose.

I had no problems with installation. I discarded the self piercing saddle valve that comes with the unit and instead used a tee fitting to tap off a supply line from a nearby sink. The drain tube must not have a "trap" where it exits the unit or it will overflow. The outlet grille is almond or ivory color, I painted mine white but that''s just my personal preference. They should offer them in different colors, the plastic grille is somewhat difficult to paint properly.

Upon powering up the humidifier for the first time I was surprised to find that the fan is a lot quieter than my Holmes console humidifier, but I also noticed that it doesn''t move much air. More on that later. There is a fairly loud hissing noise from the water supply line, similar to the sound of a dishwasher filling. The water flow rate is controlled by an orifice in the outlet of the solenoid valve. The orifice causes a hissing noise as the water is forced through it. I thought I''d get used to it, but after one day I couldn''t stand it any more. I removed the orifice and installed a pressure regulator on the supply line. This completely eliminated the noise, and by adjusting the pressure I am able to limit the amount of water that gets wasted by going down the drain. Some excess water flow is required in order to get a decent amount of humidity out of the unit. 5 psi puts it right about where it was with the orifice and full pressure, but without the hissing noise. I removed the "Filter Check" gauge from my old console humidifier and stuck it on the outlet grille of the 360 so I can monitor the effects of my changes. It''s a direct indicator of the moisture level of the air coming out of the humidifier.

So on to the lack of airflow. I can tolerate a bit more fan noise and my warranty was already void, so I began looking into a faster fan motor. Upon inspecting the motor to find the specs, I noticed the fan blade was not aligned with the shroud. It was set back too far to be effective. This may be done intentionally at the factory to limit fan noise. I moved the fan forward and noticed an immediate improvement in airflow and as a result it also makes slightly more noise as the air exits the grille. It now moves enough air to pull the closet door closed, which it didn''t do before. I need to leave the door cracked open until I can install an inlet grille in the door.

Aprilaire says this unit requires hot water. They recommend installing a small dedicated water heater if the main hot water source is too far away to supply consistent 120 degree water temp. I hooked into a hot water line with 9 feet of 1/4" copper tubing, but the total distance to the heat source is much further. The small amount of flow that this unit uses is not enough to sustain hot water in the pipes unless a sink or shower is running, so 99% of the time it is getting cold water. It still works fine. I''m sure it would work better with hot water, but it does work with cold water. When it is getting hot water, the excess water going down the drain is cold so there is not much energy wasted on heating the water, most of the heat is put into the air.

The manual humidistat that''s supplied with the unit is just adequate. It seems to have about a 5-7% RH differential. Maybe this is normal for humidifiers or maybe it''s done to prevent short cycles. I have two separate hygrometers in different parts of the room about 15 feet away from the humidifier. With a setpoint of 35% the humidity will drop as low as 28% and then the unit will run until it reaches 33-35%. I think a 1 or 2% differential would be more comfortable. My console humidifier did a much better job of maintaining a constant humidity as long as I remembered to fill it. I will be upgrading to a combo thermostat/humidistat with automatic outdoor temp reset.

Overall I am pretty pleased with the Aprilaire 360. I think build quality should be improved (loose screws, poorly positioned fan blade). It''s a very simple device and I believe it''s greatly overpriced, but there is no alternative that I''m aware of. For the price I think they should include a high quality humidistat that displays current humidity level, and different colored grilles. I love what the unit does, but I rated it three stars because of high price and lack of quality control.

I''ve been dealing with humidity in the teens in the Eastern Sierra at 8,000 feet for over a year. I couldn''t sleep, my nose always hurt, my skin cracked and itched, everyone agreed something needed to be done.

My place is about 2,300 sq. ft and the humidity shot to more than 50% in the first 12 hours of operation. This unit is basically perfect regarding the size, cost and ease of installation. A professional should be able to install this unit in less than three hours. I would recommend this unit to my grandmother and probably will.

Since I gave this unit 4 stars instead of 5 my ONLY complaint is that the unit is a little loud. The fan is strong but not silent. I will contact the manufacturer and update this review based on their suggestion. However depending on the location where you install this unit it might not matter. Additionally this fan noise might be consistent with the noise of most other units so take my comments with a grain of salt.

I installed the unit near our main intake vent for our heating system to spread the humidity throughout the house when using the fan or the heating system.

Buy APRIL AIRE 360 HUMIDIFIER Now

I am glad I bought this unit. I was so tired of daily filling, draining and cleaning my console humidifier, and the crusty white stuff that accumulated on it (not to mention the slime mold that grew in the tank if I didn''t clean it with bleach.) This unit connects to your hot water line and to a drain, so it supplies its own water and continuously cleans itself. There''s no crusty white stuff, you just set the humistat and forget about it. It''s fairly quiet, too.

Though the unit is fairly small (about 13 inches square) and not heavy (15 lbs.) it''s more than adequate to completely humidify our 1600 sq. ft. home.

I don''t know about energy usage or reliability because I just started using it, but so far the performance has been wonderful.

Graco Humidifier Replacement Filter for 4.0 Gallon Save 43% Off

Graco Humidifier Replacement Filter for 4.0 Gallonas others have pointed out, this filter is absolutely horrible. the hamilton beach (blue) filter lasted easily 4 months with proper care (i have been using this humidifier model for 10 years), and its structural integrity was not the reason i finally had to replace. the "new" graco filter starts falling apart big-time as soon as it first gets wet. do not buy. i notice that hamilton beach still sells the filter this "replaces," and am going to see if it is the original design. shame shame graco.

I cleaned the unit (Graco 4-gallon cool mist) every day and filled it with water run through a very good quality countertop filter. Even doing this, I went through two of these $11 filters per WEEK (TWENTY-FOUR TIMES as many filters as stated by the manufacturer!), and simply couldn''t afford to spend nearly $90 a month (just in filters!) to run a humidifier. That is, putting it simply, absolutely insane. Design is faulty -filtered water shouldn''t trash a brand-new filter in less than four days. I don''t know anyone who could afford $90 a month for humidifier filters.

We''ve been very pleased with this humidifier, but find the replacement filters a little costly considering how often we replace them. It''s worth it though for how happy we''ve been with the product.

Not sure what''s going on with particular brand of replacement filter... I run my Graco Humidifier about 9hrs at a time and the level of water consumed from the tank is not noticeable I''m talking day 1 out of the box. With the other filters I have used (not the one I am reviewing), I would easily go through almost an entire tank. I won''t be buying this brand again.

We bought this Graco cool mist humidifier because it is supposed to be safer for homes with young children. It works well and I like the dial on the front to adjust the humidity. But the filters fall apart very fast. I clean the unit everyday when in use and the filters just can''t take that. They are expensive to replace. Going to look for an alternative.

Vitapur VWD9506BLS-POU Point-of-Use Water Dispenser Save 11% Off

Vitapur VWD9506BLS-POU Point-of-Use Water DispenserProduct description lists the 3 stage filter and quick change adapter. Page 4 of the instruction manual states "for hygiene purposes, the filter included inside the water dispenser has not been factory installed. It has been shipped in its original shrink-wrapped package..." On opening lower panel (which is part of the problem [see below]) it was empty. Requested a replacement which Amazon promptly shipped. On arrival of the replacement I removed the lower panel to find it empty again! I excepted more purchasing directly from the manufacture vs costco or wafair. Returned product asap. Why purchase a product that doess''t include all of the parts. The filter is one of the largest features of the product. I should also warn that on both products the lower panel is held on by a screw that is overtightened and/or stripped. You''ll have to drill out the factory stripped screw to even access the lower panel. Do not buy, do not buy, do not buy....

We ordered 2 of these for my office. One of them is great works perfectly, very easy to install, no issues. The other has terrible tasting water. It has a very plastic or chemical taste. I have tried several remedies that I found on-line (ie. flushing with vinegar and hot water) and it is no better. In fact it''s maybe even a little worse. The only plastic parts that the water touches are the float valves in the water tank and the plastic tubing for the water line, both of which are pretty important to the functioning of the machine, so... just a warning. 50-50 chance that you will have good tasting, drinkable water.

Purchased 2 to replace 2 existing Vitapur point of use models that were 3+ years old. One unit was OK and using constantly the other nit so much. The problem with that is the pump would not prime and it wouldn''t dispense any water. The orginal units would probably have lasted longer is they weren''t in constant use at our business and with 30 + employees providing water to 2000+ customers on a monthly basis abusing them it was time for an upgrade. Also the older units were a HUGH pain to change the water filters. It was quite a production each time to change them.

New ones arrived nicely packed by freight. A big decision in this purchase was a height restriction in our location that required a unit 40 inches or less. You would have thought that changing the unit out would have been a breeze and the first one was. But the second unit, the cap on the hose area wouldn''t come off so you could quick connect and when trying to pry it off with a tool I totally broke the release valve. Luckily I still had the old units handy and was able to pull the valve off the old unit to use on this one.

Cold is nice a chilly. The hot has a safety feature where you press a button, wait 30 seconds and then release the hot water. It doesn''t really give a indication that the hot water is ready. So it;s a little misleading. One unit sits where customers are and I have to make instructions for them to read if they wanted to make hot tea.

It is a much sleeker unit that our prior vitapur dispensers, with the stainless steel, black and blue lighting it looks much more expensive than they really were. I''ve have them a couple of months now and everything is working as it should. I haven''t had to change out the filters yet, so will update review once I''ve tackled that piece. Lets just hope these last longer than the last ones.

Berkey Light Water Filter With 4 Black Berkey Filters Save 23% Off

Berkey Light Water Filter With 4 Black Berkey FiltersWe love our Berkey. The water tastes great and it is plenty big enough for us and our everyday use. I would recommend the Berkey filters to anyone and everyone!

I receive a glowing report each year about the astonishing quality of that which oozes from my kitchen faucet. It pains me to contradict the official report but frankly I can''t get used to it. The turbid fluid smells bad and tastes abominable. This filter converts it to the qaulity of mountain spring water. I highly recommend this product.

Keurig My K-Cup Replacement Coffee Filter Set

Keurig My K-Cup Replacement Coffee Filter Set 3 pieces in sealed pouch fits B30 B31 B40 B50 B60 B70I read a lot of reviews. This item was available at a lower price and as far as I could tell, it differed from the other Keurig K-Cup Replacement in that it was grey and not in the box.

I ordered it based on a review that said it was Keurig stamped on the lid. When it arrived, I discovered that this was indeed the case.

I imagine that this is sold at a discounted price because, like perfumes and colognes, it''s an "open box" item... meaning no box and no instructions. Fragrances sold that way have a generic box for shipping but no fancy packaging and sometimes no cap.

The bad reviews I''ve seen on the replacement filters for the Keurig simply do not apply to this Keurig product... probably because it was made by Keurig, for Keurig and meant to be quality that would instill loyalty.

1) Reviews saying the lid pops off --NOT on this one... it twists a partial turn and locks in place... there is no "popping" off while brewing.

2) Reviews saying the filter is too porous and even coarse coffee grinds come through -- NOT with this filter... you can see for yourself that the filter is extremely tight... not only in the picture, but also in the package when you see it for yourself. It is obvious by looking that a fine grind will work in this filter, and it has for me. The tightness of the filter allows the water to truly be forced through, as it should be.

3) Reviews saying that the filter is ineffective because the sides are mesh instead of just the bottom -- NOT an issue... and anyone who has used a conventional coffee maker and a permanent filter knows that the filters are mesh on the sides with a plastic bottom to hold the mesh in place and keep its shape. You have to have a frame for the mesh in order to use the mesh as a filter. Common sense. Certainly not an issue here.

4) Reviews saying the filter doesn''t seat properly -- READ all the reviews from people answering back on that one telling people to remove the insert in the Keurig that is there to hold the K-Cups in place. They also tell you that the insert holds firmly in place, so while it acts like it is not meant to be removed, that it is made to be removed and you can read that in your Keurig manual or contact the company for that same How-To information. It only makes sense that if the filter takes the place of the K-Cup and it is inserted in the grey filter holder, that you would have to remove the Keurig holder in order to properly seat this 3-piece replacement.

When in doubt, and when without, head to the Keurg website for information and support... but TO REMOVE THE KEURIG K-CUP HOLDER INSERT, the manual tells you to grasp the top while pushing the bottom up from underneath. It''s a simple as using one finger to push up. Trying to pull it out will make this far harder than it really is; it pushes out easily. Once the holder is out, you will remark, "Wow! This looks just like the replacement filter holder!" Amazingly simple. Works like a charm.

I waited on a Keurig until there was a KEURIG K-Cup Replacement Coffee Filter available... because I knew that if Keurig made one, that it would not be the cheaply made junk that so many people have complained about in their reviews.

5-star real deal.... and mine came from WildWin at a great price and shipped IMMEDIATELY! So now I ordered another for the family.

Enjoy with confidence! I am.

Updated 11DEC2012 in response to questions about the filter:

1) To reseat the original K-Cup holder, take notice of the white triangles/arrows that need to be aligned; then, slip that side''s clip in first... it''s easier to get it to lock in place due to simple physics... when you try to push down on that side last, then you discover that your force is also trying to close the whole holder/basket.

2) Some people say the coffee basket in this replacement is smaller than the K-cups and holds less coffee -NO, it does not hold less coffee, even though it is smaller than the K-cups... the reason is easily apparent if you take a K-cup apart. Inside of a K-cup is a small paper filter that is "glued" to the top; once removed, you''ll realize that it does NOT extend to the bottom... and in fact, holds the same amount of coffee as the replacement filter cup.

3) People comment that the filter should only have a mesh bottom like the K-cups -this is incorrect because, again, upon opening a K-cup, you''ll find a full paper filter, so the coffee only drains from the bottom of the plastic cup... and the plastic cup is there to keep the coffee fresh -how else could you mimic a paper filter with coffee in a traditional pot, in a single serving, AND keep it fresh??

4) People comment that the coffee grinds spill over - impossible with the Keurig replacement because the rim of the coffee filter sit ON TOP of the rim of the lower holder AND the top cap locks over top of both rims. Once the replacement holder is in the Keurig, you lower the handle and the water "needle" inserts into the opening and seals against the holder, in the very same manner as it does with K-cups.

Again, for those with comments that differ... make sure 1) you''re using it properly and 2) that you''re using a Keurig. This product matches up PERFECTLY for the Keurig because it''s made and been tested by Keurig... and it''s worked perfectly for me.

When I bought this for 1.99 + 7.99 shipping, I thought it might be a cheap imported knockoff of the Keurig My K-CUP.

It is the real thing. Even has Keurig moulded in the cap.

Total price is 9.98, Kroger has these for 14.95 and Kuerig has them for 17.95, so 9.98 is a great bargain.

They work wonderfully. Some K Cup reviews state difficulties in operating these, but the people who wrote them must have to have special class instructions on even using a ballpoint pen, as the My-K Cup is the easiest and most convenient way to make coffee.

Buy Keurig My K-Cup Replacement Coffee Filter Set Now

So my only complaint as with any Kuerig product, if you like a strong cup of coffee, the right k-cup after several trials of premium coffee might get you the strong cup of coffee but at 50 cents a cup. These my k-cup allow you to save money and trust me this is the way to go. K-cups are not recyclable so less trash too. Here''s where the trouble with these. Some of the my k cups have a tight seal along the top with the filter in. You want it to be tight for a strong cup. Reason, the coffee needs to be dark roast or espresso. It needs to be grinned pretty fine. More surface contact with coffee to water ratio. As ground coffee is put into the basket, tap if on the table to pack it in. Do not tamp it. Add until it is just below the top black rim. Because there is so much coffee in the basket, the kuerig product will struggle to force water through it and if that lid is loose even after it has been fully closed....the water and some grounds will seep out through that not so tight lid. I have two of these. One is tight and never leaks and the other is a nightmare if you are trying for the strong cup of coffee. These style of coffee pots do not spend a lot of time contacting the coffee itself. Results in a weak cup of coffee. These my k cups vs k cups is like blowing up a hot air balloon vs a balloon with your own breath. It runs right through it. The tapping technique but not tampered allows for a restricted flow and longer contact thus a stronger cup of coffee. The lid loose is like a whole in either balloon. A problem no matter which situation you have.

great to have in case you prefer a different coffee from what K-cups have to offer but still allows you to have the ability to make one single serving with little to clean up

Want Keurig My K-Cup Replacement Coffee Filter Set Discount?

I really like coffee but I don''t think I''m a coffee snob. I prefer Dunkin Donuts to Starbucks.

I received my single cup Keurig brewer for Christmas and was concerned that I would not be able to use the four pounds of coffee in my cupboard. The Keurig My K-cup had such rave reviews that I had to try it and seeing it was from the manufacturer how could I go wrong? I ordered this and was a little confused because I thought it would be 1) fill with coffee 2) insert in place of K-cup. Okay so I had to remove the original K-cup holder in order for this to fit. I did so and tried it.

The coffee tastes as good as it did in the drip coffee maker and it saves a lot of money. It won''t replace K-cups totally for me because I will open and use one bag of coffee at a time until it''s done. K-cups still let me have several kinds of coffee a day.

Why four and not five stars? Because Keurig could have inserted a little instruction sheet reminding morons like me to remove the cup holder first so the replacement will fit in.

Holmes HM5082-U Hum Holmes Hm5082-u Warm Mist HumidifierI actually bought this because some of the reviews say it was loud. We run loud humidifiers to combat traffic noise in our bedrooms. This sucker is QUIET. You can hear a mouse fart with this thing on.

Other than that it works like it''s supposed to. We kept it as a humidifier because it works so well for that and we just use the loud ones for noise.

I''ve owned other humidifiers and the benefit of this one is it''s easy to use and best of all, easy to clean and maintain. There are no filters that gunk up, you don''t have to do a regular ''white vinegar'' soaking to clean.

I read some of the other reviews and can only conclude those persons weren''t using it correctly. It does a pretty good job humidifying and it''s not possible for it to leak if you put it together correctly. It is a little on the loud side but all humidifiers make noise. This is not by far the noisiest or quietest, but bang-for-the-buck wise, it''s a good deal.

I''ve had this humidifier for a year now...it works great---no leaks, no issues with the reset light (it only goes on when out of water). I put the water in at night, wait 3 min. for the unit to fill, then turn it on. Yes, the unit does make some bubbling sounds, but it isn''t too loud and doesn''t bother anyone in our family. In the a.m. the reset light is on because all the water has been used. Then, we start the whole process over again. I would definately buy this again.

I got this unit on a special deal for $12 including shipping. It worked quite well until the reset button came on. And here''s the deal -once the reset button comes on, be prepared to waste an hour (or more) getting it to come on again.

To give you an idea of what I''m referring to, here are the exact user manual instructions (for what to do when the reset light comes on):

"RESET PROCEDURE

NOTE: When the water tank is empty and the water in the Heating Chamber is almost empty, the Automatic Shut off will activate. The RESET Light will illuminate and the unit will not operate again until you refill the water tank and reset the humidifier.

1. Turn the power knob to RESET.

2. Unplug the unit.

3. Remove and refill the water tank, being sure to follow the Daily Maintenance Instructions. Replace the tank onto the base.

4. Wait 15 minutes for the Automatic Shut-Off to reset.

5. After the 15 minutes, plug in the unit and turn the Power Knob, to HIGH. The RESET light should now be off (if not repeat steps 1-5). In about 10 minutes, the humidifier will begin to produce moisture.

If the reset light is still on at this point, and the unit does not begin to produce moisture within a few minutes, then repeat steps 1-5."

Even THIS much would be a pain IF it worked as described. However, what you''re actually doing is following the instructions above, watching the RESET button immediately come back on (unplugging and waiting another 15 minutes) and trying it all over again. I''ve been trying for TWO DAYS to get the reset button to shut off.

To my surprise, the instructions advise to run the washable parts through the dishwasher DAILY (!!!!). To give it a good cleaning, I left he knob on "RESET," unplugged it, took the whole thing apart, scrubbed the heating element, cleaned the entire inside of the unit, changed the water in the tank, made sure the knob was still on "RESET," plugged the unit back in and turned the knob to "HIGH." Guess what? THE RESET BUTTON IS STILL ON!!!!!!

At this point, I''ve spent 4 hours using it and thre DAYS trying to get it to work.

DO NOT BUY!!!

After trying to find replacement filters for different humidifiers for years, I saw this model. For $29.99, it was worth a shot! It is much quieter than other humidifiers I have had, just a little bubbling every once in a while, no constant noisy fan noise. The only time my reset light came on was when it ran dry which it''s supposed to do. No problem, just fill it up again. I''m actually buying another one. I have had no problems with leaking at all. I think it works great!

PUR Water Filter Review \ Hack

Once, long ago, PUR was a great company with great water filtering technology. I still love their filters! Unfortunately, a big bad company named Proctor and Gamble bought them and messed them over in favor of customer abuse. This was accomplished using two methods. The first method is called ''planned obsolescence'' whereby their faucet mount apparatus leak and die briefly after the end of the warranty period. (It didn''t used to be that way in the good old days). The second method is called ''timed death'' whereby their apparatus lock up their enclosed filters at a preset volume of filtered water, whether the filter is actually used up or not.

Planned obsolescence can be overcome by calling up Proctor and Gamble BEFORE your warranty runs out, and letting them know that your PUR apparatus is squirting water all over your kitchen. Ask them to send you a replacement or a replacement certificate. If need be, call repeatedly asking to speak to the President of P&G, never taking ''no'' for an answer. Then take your certificate and get another PUR apparatus. This will provide you with a lifetime for the apparatus more representative of the lifetime of original PUR apparatus. You''ve cheated no one. P&G''s cheat on you has been overcome.

The timed death lockout of your filter is extremely easy to overcome. Pull out the filter from the apparatus. This resets the nasty timing device to zero again. Put your filter back in. TADA! You''re done. Your filter will work as before. Note, however, that PUR filters do eventually get clogged with stuff. You''ll know when to change it.

I hope that helps everyone restore goodness to the universe. I still love PUR filters better than any other brand and wouldn''t be without them. It''s P&G''s customer abuse that''s not worth liking. Shame on you P&G.

Buy PUR 2-Stage Vertical White Faucet Mount FM-3333B Now

I picked up one of these (FM3333) for my office. One thing that caught my eye is that it included a 2-stage filter. We have used a single-stage on-tap filter by another maker in the past, but it clogged up too quickly, so having a filter that could trap sediment was an important consideration.

The filter holder installed on the faucet effortlessly without any tools. Our faucet has exterior screw threads, so the faucet adapter included in the package wasn''t needed.

The filter itself took a little extra effort to insert into the filter holder. It seemed to be a very tight fit (but not an improper fit).

Filtered water comes out the bottom not really in a stream or a spray, but somewhere in between. It comes out at a slower rate than unfiltered, but I expected that. It''s an adequate rate, not a trickle by any means.

Controlling the filter couldn''t be simpler or more pleasant. Tip it backwards to bypass the filter, tilt it straight up again to filter again. The tilting action feels very smooth, no feeling of cheap-plastic friction.

Another nice feature is the gauge that shows roughly how much use is left before the filter needs to be changed. It''s purely mechanical, no batteries necessary.

I recommend the Pur without hesitation.

These filters do a great job of clearing up sediment in the water, and eliminating chemical taste. However, I''ve had two of the housings crack in the last year. Aqua Mix Heavy Duty Tile and Grout Cleaner Save 31% Off

Aqua Mix Heavy Duty Tile and Grout Cleaner - QuartI ordered this product based on various positive reviews. I was not disappointed.

When I first applied the product, I was uncertain as to whether it was really doing the job on the grout, but I did not realize how dirty our light colored grout had become. Wow, what a difference. I used the dilution ratio of 1 product to 5 water and it cleaned very well. I do have a couple of spots to redo now that I can see the difference in the colors. The spots that I need to redo are around the main cooking area and I may change the dilution ratio for those particular areas.

We have a very large kitchen/dining area and it is all tiled so it took me a good part of the day since I only did small areas at a time. I put the product on with a sponge mop and used a scrub brush and a toothbrush to get into the grout. Our tile has been down since 2005 and even with regular cleaning, I still am surprised at the good results with Aqua Mix. A little goes a very long way.

I will definitely purchase this product again when I need it.

I bought this grout cleaner and followed the directions exactly as given. After my tile floor dried, I didn''t see any difference on my grout, what a disappointment! I then bought a much cheaper product, the Totally Awesome Grout Cleaner, and it WAS awesome! Now my grout looks like new! Don''t waste your money on this one.

Genesis Platinum Water Ionizer 7 Platinum Plates Replaces the KYK GenesisChange your water and change your life. The KYK genesis water ionizer made me feel better and the water is loaded with antioxidants. I drink it all the time especially when I am hungry. Believe it or not I lost weight.

It gives me energy and I never have to buy bottled water again. I highly reccomend this product for a healthier lifestyle.

It is my understanding I have the same unit but these folks have a good website that provides a lot of information about the machine like how to install it. I don''t pay much attention to the pH # and those things but no question I have now seen the machine "Greatly Reduce Two Life Long Problems" for a close family member that I wanted to help. They had stopped taking prevacid type pills, to test the thing, and they have not needed one pill since! Someone also has had a "life long" back problem reduced 90%. I love giving our water to others and most of them see a big difference. With others it is like; "you can lead them to water but you can''t make them drink" (Ha). That in it''s self settles it for me. So I order two rounds of spare filters and wrote two reviews after they arrived. My unit has many buttons including 4 different steps alkaline and one acid (for cleaning), runs fast and right now I (and others) are on alkaline step 3. We all hope my machine will last a long time.

Saeco S-TRP-ST Talea Ring Plus Super Automatic Espresso Machine

Saeco S-TRP-ST Talea Ring Plus Super Automatic Espresso MachineI owned a Jura Impressa S90 for 6 years at a daily rate of 8 espressos . No problems , I sold it to upgrade it for a professional like machine.. Bad decision, The Talea Ring Plus has a beautiful design and is relatively small for a full automatic, but...

After 4 months it was leaking (faulty 0 rings ), it wastes more water that it goes into the coffee, it is very high maintenance to clean (new filter every 2 weeks, cleaning tablet every 3 weeks, descaling twice in 3 months), but most important if you have a problem forget about Saeco customer service:rude, incompetent and they don''t return emails or calls, so you better have a good relationship with your retailer to enlist their help. After the repair of my NEW machine, Saeco lost my original box and protective pads, they scratched the led display and plate and the serial number sticker was missiing...

After 8 single coffees you must empty the grounds and the drip tray! the container is flooded with water.

What about the coffee? Just OK , not any better that one could get with a machine one third of the price.

If you are thinking superautomatic forget Saeco( at least this model)

Just purchaseed this machine this week.I must say at first i was a little leary from the not so great reviews i read on Amazon. However I did some more research and found many positive reviews elsewhere online so decided to give it a try>

The Saeco Talea Ring is very advanced and offers many settings that you wouldn''t find on the average super automatic machine. It can be pretty tricky to find the right setting for your taste but definatelly possible. After 4 trial expresso''s and maybe 20 min to setup all the settings I had perfectlly brewed coffee with nice rich crema. I did not experience any leaaking or messes mentioned on the other reviews.

My only negative comment if you want to call it that is the machine is a bit pricey however i love my coffee and my beleif is satisfaction justifies the cost.

We have always been big Saeco fans had their machines for many many years and got a lot of our friends turned on to the brand. So we finally decided it was time to get their latest and greatest the Talea Ring Plus.

Oh my goodness! I can''t believe how poorly this has been. The Espresso is quite good and I like the adjustments and controls. But frothing milk is a catastrophe! It usually will not create an froth, just hot milk. No matter whether you use the cappucchinatore or island. And the island tends to leak or come loose... Should you ever drop the glass carafe of the milk island, you will be surprised how much a replacement is. After a few months, the machine started to leak and now we got a taste of Saeco''s so-called customer service. It was the worst experience ever, period. After many weeks of phone calls (I am not making this up!) we finally got authorization to send it in. The returned it very quickly (impressive) and now the leaking seems fixed for the moment but still no froth! It is ridiculous any cheap, older Saeco (i.e. Vienna) used to do this great!

If this has not scared you enough, please do a Google search for it you will find tons of bad reviews and disgruntled owners. Wish I had done that!

I would so not ever buy another Saeco I feel I got screwed for my $1,500. Next stop Jura.
