The only negative is that the installation instructions are a little cryptic and the fan makes some noise at highest speed.

At low speed, it''s silent. Appearance is great and performance is great too (so far!).

This is my first large humidifier and I may not be the best person to appreciate differences amongst brands. But I will give you a "layman''s" impression.

When it first arrived I wasn''t sure I was that impressed. It''s a big piece of plastic, not exactly durable but it can last. The casing is cheesy imitation wood which I guess does the job. It reminds me of my parents'' old wood paneling from the 70s although some people like this "rustic" appearance. The unit doesn''t consist of much -a plastic basin, casters for it to move on the floor, a 2.5 gallon bottle that comes with a hose for filling up (nice addition), the fan assembly piece on top. My first thought was "now this produces a great profit margin."

Well, while that might be the case, I should compare it with the smaller humidifiers I''ve used that cost anywhere from $40-70. They are a little more intricate, have better precision, but this isn''t a tremendous difference and the value for what it does is evidently much better. When it comes right down to it though, I wonder how much more effective this is than having a large pot of water and a fan, but somehow the entire 2.5 gallons evaporates pretty quickly over the course of a few hours.

Noise -quiet is not a word I''d use. Not sure what these people are talking about. On low speed it''s noticeable, medium it''s definitely noticeable, high speed is like a jet plane. I keep mine in a foyer of my apartment at mid speed and it''s noisy but tolerable generally. At night you don''t want this in your room when trying to sleep.

Overall it works. I''m still having humidity challenges in my dry apartment but this is probably better than the small machines. I''d give it 3.5 stars because of price to performance. Unsure how these differ from a "whole house" humidifier other than price since specs are the same.

I have had this unit for awhile and it does work. However it is made from very thin plastic and will not stand a simple bump without falling apart. I ordered some anti-bacteriostat from Essick and they sent a third of what I paid for and will not respond to my requests for an explaination.

It comes assembled, but you need to disassemble to remove the packing. You would have to do this anyhow to clean it before first use, so this isn''t a negative. Filled it with water and some anti-bacterial solution and turned it on. House went from 20% to 45% relative humidity within a day on medimum fan speed. The unit is upstairs in the largest part of a 3800 sq ft house. High fan speed is noisy. Medium is loud but bearable. Low is nearly silent. When you move air with a fan, you''ll get noise. If you want a silent humidifier, you''ll need to get one that is installed inline with your furnace/AC fan (spelled $$$).

Construction is basic... plastic. Some may say it''s cheap, but I say it''s easy to clean. Remove the fan housing (simply lift it off the base), remove the filter and you have a big plastic box that is easy to clean. I like it. Fan is also easy to access for cleaning.

I have another humidifier on it''s way because I thought I would need two for a house this large. Probably could have gotten away with this one alone, but I''ll run both on low fan speed and reduce the time they are on, indirectly increasing the life of each... I hope.

Worked well until the blower motor went out. It now gets hot when plugged in but will not spin. This product work well until it broke. now to get it replaced I must pay to have it packed and shipped back. Then they say they will test and if bad replace with me paying shipping. Just doesnt seem fair. I do not have the time to wait for testing so I am going to buy a different brand. maybe from a company that will send me a new product until they are able to verify what I a saying is true.

I chose this item as a less expensive substitute for the Apilaire water pad. After using it for a few weeks, I ntoiced a puddle of water on the floor around the furnace. After opening the furnace, I found about a half-inch of water at the bottom of the air return duct and some water inside the furnace. I removed the water pad from the humidifer and noticed that there was about a 1/2 inch gap between the top of the pad and the bottom of the water distribution tray. I don''t remember whether it was like this when I first installed it ( I think that it was) or whether it may have shrunk or deformed after being wet for some time. In either event, because of the gap, if the air flow through the humidifer is strong enough, the air blows the water dripping off the bottom of the distribution tray directly into the air duct instead of allowing it to dtip onto the top of the pad. Through time, it accumulates at the bottom of the duct and eventually leaks into the furnace and onto the floor. This product is not suitable for use in an Aprilaire model 440 humidifer. Do not buy it. Spend a few dollars more and buy the Aprilaire replacement pad which is a stiffer material instead of this paper-like material and does not have a gap between the top of the pad and the bottom of the distribution tray.

This item is intended as a replacement water pad for a humidifier system. Its packaging lists it as compatible with:

I ordered this item from Todays Concept. The item graphic at the time showed an A12W Aprilaire replacement waterpad box. And the title for the item at the time was "RPS #A12W Aprilaire112 Water Pad" however the item received was a regular A12, not the A12W. The item image has since been updated to show a graphic of the waterpad itself, not the packaging. But the item title still specifies "#A12W" at the time of this review.

Also, the item description at the time of review is a bit sketchy, including "features" unrelated to a replacement water pad, including:

The item received (#A12) is actually made of layers of expanded metal (see ) coated with a white substance, possibly vinyl or teflon (difficult to say). The difference with an A12W is that an A12W is often made of expanded plastic and coated with an absorptive material such as paper fiber or cloth fiber. The absorptive material helps to distribute the water and gives it more surface area from which to evaporate, also it helps minimize wasted water.

Be aware, unless they have changed inventory, you may be receiving an A12 rather than an A12W.

Reverse Osmosis Water Storage Tank 14 Gallon

I moved my tank and the five stage RO system to the garage and ran the tubing up into the attic (insulated) and down a wall to the back of the sink. We gained back a whole double door under counter space that we so badly needed. I now have a huge supply of pure water 4ppm TDS and NO NOISE. The RO waste goes into the water softener system with a Zero waste recovery system. This tank is priced right, shipped well in good packaging for very little, wasn''t available on Prime for this particular unit. It was very simple to install and had good hardware provided. Another teriffic Amazon Vendor and purchase without leaving my computer desk.

Most RO systems come with a dinky 2.5 gal tank (remember its about 40 percent air inside to pressureize the output to your faucet thats why there is a scraeder valve on the side to increase or decrease the air pressure)

With the 14 gallon tank, its best to first do a complete filter change (see my reviews for complete filter kits) if you want to add a UV sterilizer now is the time to do it. With the uv light kit and clean filters and you have flushed out your system to a clean status thats when you want to swap tanks (use 2 wraps of teflon thread tape on the threads to make sure it does not leak.

Unlike most system tanks, the entry exit port is on the bottom BE absolutely certain that you route your hose through the cutouts in the stand BEFORE you connect the tank (you may need a longer pipe to the tank than before buy 1/4" tubing (pvc) at the hardware store for this. Now you have to wait for the tank to fill. Even though the waste line is running fast, there is only a trickle going into the tank. It will take hours (possibly 10 hours depending on your ro system) to fill and stop with the 14 gallons. My advise is that you start out with the tank upside down with extra tubing and make sure when it shuts off filling there are no leaks. Now flip the tank over and neatly coil the tubing under it inside the base unit. Be sure everyting is dry!

This is a clean and neat tank but you will need to find space for it and its base. I installed a valve to the tank (none come with it and you have to flush the whole 14 gallons if there is a leak problem to depressurize it or else instal a valve off the tank by 6 inches hide the valve under the stand. I also put a T with another valve that goes to a hose bib to 1/4" pvc tubing adapter. Because my pressure washer uses VERY LITTLE water, I have it setup to feed from the adapter on the RO system and use the 3ppm ultrapure water to wash my car with 5 gallons and no dryoff since there are no deposits in the water to leave spots.

High pressure / low volume is how pressure washers clean. If you see the truck mounted cleaning systems they have a 2 chamber deionized water production system that removes all minerals from the wash water the best part is not having to dry off your car. Even after washing the car with RO water you get great results just like the dealerships have, except it is installed in your house. I found a kit of parts I needed that was twenty bucks at the hardware store used it to connect everything up and valve off the tank when not in use.

Just for reference a good RO system will output 3ppm mineral content in total dissolved solids. The street water can be 250-500 ppm. Distilled water is 1ppm typically. Soft water is usually ion EXCHANGE where calcium ions are swapped for sodium ions which So you are washing your car with high pressure and using almost distilled quality water. The other use it gets is filling my dog''s 1 gallon water dish. My dog has a strong preference for r.o. water quality because our city water here is terrible. She also likes to drink from the stream of RO water at the end of the 25 foot tube (I put a 1/4 turn ball valve on the adapter so I could shut off the RO flow either at the tank or at the end of the tubing which terminates in a male hose valve)

With 14 gallons of pre-made RO water waiting to be used you can fill gallon jugs with ease, fill the dog''s gallon drinking dish, and still have water left over for the refrigerator ice maker or use the majority of the 14 gallons to wash the car the RO system will take about 6 hours to regenerate and then shutoff if it is "ok" to begin with (clean filters, no damage to the ro membrane etc). RO membranes, if fed clean water with tripple filtering to begin with, will usually last 5+ years by then you buy a new system!

But keep your 14 gallon take you can always t off it and add the 2.5 gallon tank that comes standard for 16.5 gallons of stored, clean, sterile water.

Shipping on this product was top notch no dents scratches or any problems. Most of my issues are shipping related this one was double boxed!!

I would have given this air purifier 5-stars except for one small detail. Out of the two times that I''ve ordered the Austin Air Machines (one larger, full size unit at first, and then two of the smaller Junior sizes because I liked it so much), each time I had to arrange for a return and exchange immediately upon receipt because the motors "whined" (teeth clenching, nails on a blackboard type whine). Since these units are used in active living areas (i.e., family room) or where you sleep, it''s important that the unit is as unobtrusive as possible. When it''s working as designed, it does just that. In fact, it''s almost a soothing sound when it''s running correctly. Plus, I really like the fact that you can run the units 24/7 without fear of the motor burning out (important when you''re in an allergy prone area like Florida). All in all, a wonderful purifier...really does the job well. I have two dogs and when you walk into my house now, it always smells fresh and my husband''s allergies have also improved with our using these. I just wish they''d do a better job of quality controlling at the manufacturing site. To have to return 2 out of 3 units purchased is not a good ratio. On the plus side, they make it as easy as possible on you for the returns. It''s only a matter of waiting longer for your working product to arrive. To quickly answer the question most people will want to know about, the flavoring option is a mixed bag. Personally, I think it tastes great but I am used to the flavor of "diet" tasting drinks so if you can stand drinks like Crystal Light, Fresca soda, or similar you will probably like this as well. This was a present for my mother, however, and she doesn''t like the taste. Adding flavor is completely optional. It''s simply a small plastic container that is attached to the front of the purifier and it squirts a small amount of sucralose flavoring into the water dispensed from the separate tap.

I''m also pleased to note that this matches a chrome faucet perfectly and I didn''t need separate (included) adapters during installation. My only complaint is you never feel like it is installed securely enough. While only finger tightening was enough to use without leaks, it still moves around sideways a lot. I''m not sure if that was the intent, but I would have preferred something that locks solidly into place. Installation of the filter is idiot-proof as you are literally placing a square peg into a round hole. Screw the cap on the front into place, installing the flavor cartridge if you desire, and you''re ready to go.

The filters are rated to purify 100 gallons before needing replacement. A small electronic light blinks green, yellow, or red when you switch to purified water as an indicator. Most importantly, the water tastes great and I find myself drinking a lot more of it in place of soda or other drinks. That certainly can''t be a bad thing. Recommended.

Update (May, 2008): I feel I should update this review. While my purifier worked, I was disheartened to read so many reviews saying these were defective. After about six months of use I started to see symptoms of problems others were complaining about such as leakage from the mount and decreased water pressure (likely due to a loose seal). P&G, the makers of Pur, were nice enough to send me a coupon for a replacement faucet but unfortunately the replacement leaked everywhere. I now question the quality and reliability of these devices, but cannot change my original rating. While the idea is great, these do seem to be cheap junk and I would not recommend them now. I guess I was lucky the first time.

PUR Water Filter Review \ Hack

Once, long ago, PUR was a great company with great water filtering technology. I still love their filters! Unfortunately, a big bad company named Proctor and Gamble bought them and messed them over in favor of customer abuse. This was accomplished using two methods. The first method is called ''planned obsolescence'' whereby their faucet mount apparatus leak and die briefly after the end of the warranty period. (It didn''t used to be that way in the good old days). The second method is called ''timed death'' whereby their apparatus lock up their enclosed filters at a preset volume of filtered water, whether the filter is actually used up or not.

Planned obsolescence can be overcome by calling up Proctor and Gamble BEFORE your warranty runs out, and letting them know that your PUR apparatus is squirting water all over your kitchen. Ask them to send you a replacement or a replacement certificate. If need be, call repeatedly asking to speak to the President of P&G, never taking ''no'' for an answer. Then take your certificate and get another PUR apparatus. This will provide you with a lifetime for the apparatus more representative of the lifetime of original PUR apparatus. You''ve cheated no one. P&G''s cheat on you has been overcome.

The timed death lockout of your filter is extremely easy to overcome. Pull out the filter from the apparatus. This resets the nasty timing device to zero again. Put your filter back in. TADA! You''re done. Your filter will work as before. Note, however, that PUR filters do eventually get clogged with stuff. You''ll know when to change it.

I hope that helps everyone restore goodness to the universe. I still love PUR filters better than any other brand and wouldn''t be without them. It''s P&G''s customer abuse that''s not worth liking. Shame on you P&G.

Recently the quality of the PUR Faucet Mount systems have gone into the toilet. I contacted PUR to let them know I was having problems with keeping their PUR filter from leaking. They sent me a coupon for a new one and I purchased this "state of the art" model thinking that if the previous models had kinks then surely they would have worked them out by now. Ummmm... no way. The silver colored plastic Faucet Mount Housing (the large silver part that holds the filter) came off within about a week of us installing it because the glue gave out. The front silver cover that houses the flavor cartridge kept falling off if it was slightly tapped. This thing leaked within a few months of getting it. Try as we may, tightening it did nothing. Then we tried to take it off to check the rubber seal. The mounting nut that attaches it to the faucet then locked up so we couldn''t put it back on. Save your money. Replacing the unit every few months doesn''t give you any real savings. I''m dissappointed again. I wish I could give it -3 stars because I would.

Hamilton Beach Stainless Steel Ensemble Electric Kettle Save 9% Off

So after spending a little over a week searching for a suitable kettle I have definitely found the perfect match. I recently received a 6 cup teapot and wanted to keep it in my room along with an electric kettle to replace going into the kitchen and brewing cup after cup of tea.

What I like about this kettle:

It met all my criteria.

After brewing and discarding 4 kettle fulls there is no discernible aftertaste.

No plastic contact inside, there is a plastic water level but it isn''t in direct contact with the largest body of water in the kettle. Also, the tube for the boiling shut off is made from stainless as well, not plastic which is really nice.

Is real metal not just plasticy coated metal imitator I saw on a few of the models.

The inside bottom is a stainless plate with the heating element underneath making clean up easy.

The outside bottom is plastic and gets warm not burning hot so it can be placed onto a surface.

Slides onto the base easily.

Auto shutoff works well.

What worries me: I say worries because it isn''t a problem right now but may be a few months down the line.

The lid opens with a button which if it breaks could potentially be a problem, not to fill the kettle as the spout provides adequate room to fill it with, but to clean it.

After two brews i took the little filter out. I am using it only to heat water and only with filtered water so to me it seems unnecessary.

The switch at the bottom, it doesn''t seem flimsy per say but it does seem to be a little loose, its not a push button so I worry it may give out.

Duh, or common sense things that people seem to have an issue with:

It gets hot. Yes. It''s supposed to. Since the body is stainless steel, which is a good conductor of heat, it will be hot. The handle provides ample room to grab though.

It will be heavy if completely full. Yes, water in larger amounts does get heavy. The kettle itself isn''t much heaver than a standard coffee carafe so it should not add much to the overall weight.

It can be a bit loud. Its boiling water, the kettle doesn''t have any sound or heat insulation so yes you will be able to hear it. Honestly for me its not really a bother. The kettle sits on its own table next to my desk and I find it kind of soothing. Plus if I am heating water for green tea or white tea I can listen in and shut it off before it comes full boil.

Along those lines, if you leave water in it for some time yes the water will cool. It is not a warmer nor is it a thermos that will keep it to the same temperature all day.

Overall:

I am very satisfied with this product. I have already recommended it to several people and it has been serving me well. Its not a fancy appliance so it does its job and doesn''t require a tremendous effort on my part which was exactly what I was looking for.

Researched electric kettles no end without finding a good buy with good performance. Picked this one up at Costco, trusting in the return policy.

I''ve had no thought of returning it: Heats fast, and the hot water has no taste or smell. Base is light but stays put--it''s no effort at all to set it on the base or lift it off.

Cons:

* The metal outside gets hot. Fortunately, you have no reason to touch it. The handle is large and comfortable and your knuckles are protected from accidental brushes, so the heat of the metal is not likely to matter.

* The trigger on the top of the handle opens the lid. A minor annoyance: this usually flings a few droplets of water about. If you use the trigger to open the lid just after boiling, though, those droplets will be very hot. Fortunately, there''s no reason to do this unless you''re starting another kettle-full just after finishing one. When you''re pouring normally, you''ll be pouring through the spout and the top needn''t be open.

...it comes with a clunky plastic case, which I personally do not need. The fridge already comes with a fixed case, which I am suppose to slide in the actual filter replacement part. I wish there was an option to buy a filer without the case, because it is kind of a waste. Plus, it does not come with a whimsical case, it is quite a thick peace of plastic.

the filters takes 24 hours to break in the filter so it will flow properly but thats not a big issue my issue is the water still sucks, now im not really sure if it even lives up to any of the claims it said on the website

This product must be discussed with the corresponding valve, which unfortunately I think, may be discontinued now. Danze valves are the best on the market with ceramic parts, not cheap plastic that will require replacement later. The quality of this actual product (the valve trim) is great, the finish (distressed bronze) is so unique, so satisfying and unusual, I hope Danze continues to offer it so I can use this in my next bathroom remodel. The only thing I HAVE to point out that I didn''t see in the description was that there is writing in the finish that says hot and cold with a little swish detail. I don''t like it, my plumber told me its something that is required for building codes in some areas or something like that. I find it unattractive, but you only notice it when you are close to the fixture.

I guess its helpful for people who haven''t used this particular kind of shower valve, but I find it obvious-how to operate and therefore unnecessary. thats my 2 cents.

I never really gave it much thought, assuming we had reached the limits of water delivery technology. That was, until I experienced the Waterpik AquaScape.

Right off the bat, let me warn that this showerhead is not for everyone. If you like standing in a gentle mist while being drizzled with cascading rain droplets, there are other units that accomplish this (the word "rain" is usually the giveaway). On the other hand, if you prefer to be pummeled by what feels like the Colorado River, the AquaScape stands alone. I am, by most standards, a hefty man, yet when fully engaged, the AquaScape literally pushes me backwards in the shower as though I''m being sprayed with a firehose.

Installation was a breeze, including the removal of the flow limiter. I would recommend leaving on the flow limiter at first to see if you like the default pressure. The pressure after removing the limiter, as described above, is not for the faint of heart. Also, before buying, note that this is a fixed wall mount unit. There is no detachable, handheld piece and, quite frankly, it''s probably much safer that way, as a handheld component could easily spiral out of control with this kind of pressure.

Overall, I heartily recommend this product both to the showerhead enthusiast as well as the "weekend warrior".

I owned a Jura Impressa S90 for 6 years at a daily rate of 8 espressos . No problems , I sold it to upgrade it for a professional like machine.. Bad decision, The Talea Ring Plus has a beautiful design and is relatively small for a full automatic, but...

After 4 months it was leaking (faulty 0 rings ), it wastes more water that it goes into the coffee, it is very high maintenance to clean (new filter every 2 weeks, cleaning tablet every 3 weeks, descaling twice in 3 months), but most important if you have a problem forget about Saeco customer service:rude, incompetent and they don''t return emails or calls, so you better have a good relationship with your retailer to enlist their help. After the repair of my NEW machine, Saeco lost my original box and protective pads, they scratched the led display and plate and the serial number sticker was missiing...

After 8 single coffees you must empty the grounds and the drip tray! the container is flooded with water.

What about the coffee? Just OK , not any better that one could get with a machine one third of the price.

If you are thinking superautomatic forget Saeco( at least this model)

Just purchaseed this machine this week.I must say at first i was a little leary from the not so great reviews i read on Amazon. However I did some more research and found many positive reviews elsewhere online so decided to give it a try>

The Saeco Talea Ring is very advanced and offers many settings that you wouldn''t find on the average super automatic machine. It can be pretty tricky to find the right setting for your taste but definatelly possible. After 4 trial expresso''s and maybe 20 min to setup all the settings I had perfectlly brewed coffee with nice rich crema. I did not experience any leaaking or messes mentioned on the other reviews.

My only negative comment if you want to call it that is the machine is a bit pricey however i love my coffee and my beleif is satisfaction justifies the cost.

We have always been big Saeco fans had their machines for many many years and got a lot of our friends turned on to the brand. So we finally decided it was time to get their latest and greatest the Talea Ring Plus.

Oh my goodness! I can''t believe how poorly this has been. The Espresso is quite good and I like the adjustments and controls. But frothing milk is a catastrophe! It usually will not create an froth, just hot milk. No matter whether you use the cappucchinatore or island. And the island tends to leak or come loose... Should you ever drop the glass carafe of the milk island, you will be surprised how much a replacement is. After a few months, the machine started to leak and now we got a taste of Saeco''s so-called customer service. It was the worst experience ever, period. After many weeks of phone calls (I am not making this up!) we finally got authorization to send it in. The returned it very quickly (impressive) and now the leaking seems fixed for the moment but still no froth! It is ridiculous any cheap, older Saeco (i.e. Vienna) used to do this great!

If this has not scared you enough, please do a Google search for it you will find tons of bad reviews and disgruntled owners. Wish I had done that!

I would so not ever buy another Saeco I feel I got screwed for my $1,500. Next stop Jura.
