I own an old orange Master Plunger that I bought about 10 years ago, and there simply is NO better plunger made; it''s every bit as good as the day I bought it.

So, when I moved to a house with two bathrooms, I went online to see if I could find another of the same. I was so excited to find they were still made, and the price was not much more than I paid years ago. I ordered two~~one for the other bathroom and one for our camp.

However, when I received the plunger, imagine my distress to find that the company had cheapened their product and ruined the "perfect plunger."

The old plunger had a narrower mouth at the bottom but the same large bellows design; it was made of a different type of plastic (dull, not unlike the plastic used to make milk jugs; the new plunger is made of a shiny, much less rigid plastic [maybe polypropelene?]) and the handle did not "give" at all when you put pressure on it.

The new plunger handle feels as if it will fold over if I put my full weight against it, and the plunger tends to splash water all over me and the floor when I use it because it doesn''t seat in securely into the toilet drain, as the old one did. It still plunges OK (though it now takes a couple tries before it unclogs the drain), but it''s just not the quality of the old one.

I would not recommend the new product to anyone; I''m sure there are better products on the market. Too bad the company ruined it. They had a fantastic product, but evidently profits were more important than quality. They''ve lost my business and my support.

I just bought this plunger today at the recommendation of the hardware store salesperson. I was a bit skepticle due to it''s large size and simple, all-plastic design, but it worked on the first try! Yes it did sloush the water around a bit but at least it worked and in only about a minute or two. Also, it''s plastic screw-on bottom design makes it easy to clean and store. I''m thrilled with this product it works and it works quickly AND the price is great too!

It is SO hard to find an adequate plunger anymore, one that doesn''t fall apart with the first or second use. The knob on the handle on this one collapsed with the first or second use, but not to the extent that it isn''t usable, although it does put extra strain on the hands and wrists. The handle doesn''t seem designed for homo sapiens! That knob in the middle of the handle? Please! What''s that for?! But the worst part of it is that it splashes up a bit on the user''s hands, worse than others I''ve used (or tried to use), and since I already have bowel lissues, I sure don''t need an excuse for more, from fecal bacteria finding their way back into my system, if you''ll pardon my medical explicitness. (C''mon, it''s a TOILET plunger we''re talking about, for gosh sake. Grow up.)

For five years one I got at Sears Hardware was like magic! I SO wish Sears hadn''t discontinued that line, or that I''d made a note of its manufacturer or any other distinguishing information, to try and find it again. It was almost like this one, but not quite, like I''ve said. So if you have one that works, MAKE A NOTE OF IT SO YOU CAN FIND IT AGAIN IF YOU NEED TO LOOK FOR IT ELSEWHERE! Like the song says, "You don''t know what you''ve got until it''s gone." Like the guy on the radio says, "When you find a winner, you stick with it." Who''d''a thunk Sears would discontinue a perfect product? The state of American commerce these days! I guess it was "too perfect," not enough built-in obsolescence, eh? How crooked.

Reverse Osmosis Water Storage Tank 14 Gallon

I moved my tank and the five stage RO system to the garage and ran the tubing up into the attic (insulated) and down a wall to the back of the sink. We gained back a whole double door under counter space that we so badly needed. I now have a huge supply of pure water 4ppm TDS and NO NOISE. The RO waste goes into the water softener system with a Zero waste recovery system. This tank is priced right, shipped well in good packaging for very little, wasn''t available on Prime for this particular unit. It was very simple to install and had good hardware provided. Another teriffic Amazon Vendor and purchase without leaving my computer desk.

Most RO systems come with a dinky 2.5 gal tank (remember its about 40 percent air inside to pressureize the output to your faucet thats why there is a scraeder valve on the side to increase or decrease the air pressure)

With the 14 gallon tank, its best to first do a complete filter change (see my reviews for complete filter kits) if you want to add a UV sterilizer now is the time to do it. With the uv light kit and clean filters and you have flushed out your system to a clean status thats when you want to swap tanks (use 2 wraps of teflon thread tape on the threads to make sure it does not leak.

Unlike most system tanks, the entry exit port is on the bottom BE absolutely certain that you route your hose through the cutouts in the stand BEFORE you connect the tank (you may need a longer pipe to the tank than before buy 1/4" tubing (pvc) at the hardware store for this. Now you have to wait for the tank to fill. Even though the waste line is running fast, there is only a trickle going into the tank. It will take hours (possibly 10 hours depending on your ro system) to fill and stop with the 14 gallons. My advise is that you start out with the tank upside down with extra tubing and make sure when it shuts off filling there are no leaks. Now flip the tank over and neatly coil the tubing under it inside the base unit. Be sure everyting is dry!

This is a clean and neat tank but you will need to find space for it and its base. I installed a valve to the tank (none come with it and you have to flush the whole 14 gallons if there is a leak problem to depressurize it or else instal a valve off the tank by 6 inches hide the valve under the stand. I also put a T with another valve that goes to a hose bib to 1/4" pvc tubing adapter. Because my pressure washer uses VERY LITTLE water, I have it setup to feed from the adapter on the RO system and use the 3ppm ultrapure water to wash my car with 5 gallons and no dryoff since there are no deposits in the water to leave spots.

High pressure / low volume is how pressure washers clean. If you see the truck mounted cleaning systems they have a 2 chamber deionized water production system that removes all minerals from the wash water the best part is not having to dry off your car. Even after washing the car with RO water you get great results just like the dealerships have, except it is installed in your house. I found a kit of parts I needed that was twenty bucks at the hardware store used it to connect everything up and valve off the tank when not in use.

Just for reference a good RO system will output 3ppm mineral content in total dissolved solids. The street water can be 250-500 ppm. Distilled water is 1ppm typically. Soft water is usually ion EXCHANGE where calcium ions are swapped for sodium ions which So you are washing your car with high pressure and using almost distilled quality water. The other use it gets is filling my dog''s 1 gallon water dish. My dog has a strong preference for r.o. water quality because our city water here is terrible. She also likes to drink from the stream of RO water at the end of the 25 foot tube (I put a 1/4 turn ball valve on the adapter so I could shut off the RO flow either at the tank or at the end of the tubing which terminates in a male hose valve)

With 14 gallons of pre-made RO water waiting to be used you can fill gallon jugs with ease, fill the dog''s gallon drinking dish, and still have water left over for the refrigerator ice maker or use the majority of the 14 gallons to wash the car the RO system will take about 6 hours to regenerate and then shutoff if it is "ok" to begin with (clean filters, no damage to the ro membrane etc). RO membranes, if fed clean water with tripple filtering to begin with, will usually last 5+ years by then you buy a new system!

But keep your 14 gallon take you can always t off it and add the 2.5 gallon tank that comes standard for 16.5 gallons of stored, clean, sterile water.

The Good: The water filter works well. The water tastes great and is an economical and eco-friendly alternative from bottle water.

The Bad: Although I received a competitive price for this replacement filter on my Everpure H300 system at Amazon, I needed two plumbers and practically three weeks of badgering to Everpure to get a new head for my filtration unit that was not accepting the replacement filter. The older (3-4 years+) heads on the Everpure units are poorly engineered. The newer heads are significantly better.

The Ugly: Everpure does not have a protocol or any policy to recycle their used filters. I called the company''s headquarters and was told to throw the used filter in the garbage. Everpure provides a healthly alternative to tap water for the home and office. That''s great. But they are far from being an environmentally sustainable company. Their filters have been absorbing heavy metals, toxins and whatever else may be in the tap water over a long period of time. It is unacceptable to have a policy by default that their used filters be thrown into the waste stream. I will be following up with Everpure''s management on this issue...

Great tasting water, dead simple to install and maintain, but it can get clogged very easily such that water flow slows to a very low rate ie. 15 mins/gal!

After two weeks the filter slowed to a nearly unusable flow rate. I found out that this is because it has a small micron filter and any sediment that comes into the filter will begin to clog it. So, if they dig up a pipe around you and some dirt flows in your filter, or if you have a bit heavy sediment the flow will be greatly reduced to the point of being useless.

So far it seems you need to also install a prefilter to prevent this.

Gaggia 12300 Baby Class Manual Espresso Machine Save 40% Off

We got the Gaggia Baby Class 12300 over the weekend. I must confess that I purchased it not here at amazon (although I am an amazon shopper for life, I think). Firstly, the built of this machine is by far superior than my first esp machine, breville cafe roma which I had to dispatch with a heavy heart, because it was a good (cremaaaaa!!!) espresso machine. I also have a Delonghi 702, which got great reviews, but I cannot get good crema from it, so it''s going back. Stainless steel casing, the cash basin is cast iron, and the filter weighs about a pound.

After carefully reading the manual,(I rarely do with other new "toys"), using this machine is easy to use. I always "prime" the machine as instructed by running it without the filter attached until the cup is filled with just water.

I usually use a clear mug/cup to see the beautiful crema that comes out.

The frother: one of the reviewers that I read was mildly complaining about it falling off. If you read the section on how to clean it and put it back it should not happen anymore. Tip: youtube has videos from casualfilm that shows you how to prime, make capuccino, clean, the machine.

Cappuccino: Wow! that''s all I can say... first you make your espresso, and by the time you put your milk (stright from the fridge) the machine has warmed up already that it only takes a few seconds to heat up the milk and create a great frothing.

I have nothing but praises for this machine!!! I will try to update in about a month....

You pay for what you get. The Gaggia is pricey BUT it is worth the price for a great cup of espresso. We have previously owned two much cheaper models by other manufactures and they never produced a great cup of espresso. The Baby Gaggia is extremely easy to operate and contains all quality parts, most importantly it produces a world class cup of espresso or cappuccino. It is a great reminder of vacations to Italy.

I had a Gaggia Classic for years, which gave one consistently great shot after another. I upgraded to the Gaggia Baby Class, and after 7 months I have given up. It has gone back for service twice, and each time came back not working properly. When I complained, I was told the problem was a "new" problem, and even though it was still under warranty, I would have to pay shipping ($50.00).

My new Baby Class is inconsistent and pours great shots alternating with shots I have to throw away. Service from Whole Latte Love/Importika has deteriorated since I had my first Gaggia machine. I have finally given up and gotten rid of this machine and purchased a new one, a different brand from a different vendor.

Very disappointing.

This is a great looking machine and functions very well. It takes some time to get the crema right but it when it works properly, it''s excellent.

However, after using it regularly for four weeks, it seems the filter becomes very clogged very quickly and has to be cleaned often. The holes seem quite small and the water accumulates in the awkward catch tray quite often. It''s frustrating because water also accumulates under the machine. Lots of cleaning involved. Didn''t happen on our old Saeco. Suppose it could be the grind but its been the same used from day one. At this point, I would not rank it over 4 stars.

About a year ago I upgraded from the Gaggia Coffee to this machine, the Gaggia Baby Class, which, among other things, has a third solenoid value -the main reason for my upgrade. Although the Gaggia Coffee is a great machine that I won''t part with, the Gaggia Baby Class is indeed an upgrade. First, I should note that I have my Gaggia paired with a Gaggia MDF grinder and I roast my own beans. The Gaggia Baby Class is refined and well designed. It''s much quieter than my Gaggia Coffee and doesn''t drip from the portafilter while sitting idle. Although not perfect, third solenoid works pretty well in producing a dry puck. With my Gaggia Coffee, after I pulled a shot I''d have to leave the portafilter in the machine for about four to five minutes to drip dry the puck...so the third solenoid definately saves time in the mornings. The Gaggia Baby Class produces textbook timed shots every time. (I weigh out 15 to 16 grams of fresh coffee, with my grinder set at #3). I''m not a straight-up espresso drinker myself, but I can certainly recognize a bad shot. Here, the Gaggia doesn''t dissapoint. Visually the Gaggia is a beautiful machine. The stainless steel is attractive. I never get tired of admiring the machine on my counter. The drip tray is fairly deep and easily pulls out for cleaning. The buttons are adequate. The on/off button is behind the machine, which is a little odd. The other buttons work fine but don''t light up very brightly. The water container holds quite a bit and pulls out easily and appears to contain a little microfilter. I don''t use the steam wand, so I apologize for my lack of insight here (I used a Frabosk stovetop frother -works great.) Gaggia''s aren''t known for steaming ability due to the small boiler. You get what you pay for and the Gaggia fills that void between the Miss Silvia and the lesser machines below. I didn''t go with the Miss Silvia due to price and its reputation for being less-than-user-friendly machine. I would highly recommend the Gaggia Baby Class (and at least a Gaggia MDF grinder to go with it).

I bought this for my Kenmore Progressive air purifier and compared it to the Kenmore replacement pre-filters that I had previously bought from Sears. The filters are an exact match; even the box is the same except for what is printed on it. At the time of this writing Sears charges $10 more for the Kenmore part number than Whirlpool. If you own a Kenmore Progressive air purifier that takes Kenmore pre-filter 32-83378, I highly recommend purchasing this one to save yourself $10 and to discourage Sears from marking up there filters such a ridiculously high amount.

Got these for our Whispure.... the original that came with it removed odors really well, but eventually got too smelly and clogged.

These came in a box,...but not in a plastic bag,....no seal.... just stuffed in a box. Now, the box looks like it might be an original but I have a hard time believing the people at Whirlpool are not smart enough to protect these from humidity/odors/etc during transport and storage! As it turns out, ours smell disgusting, and once put in the Whispure emit a very strong insecticide smell probably from having been stored without protection! The job of active carbon is TO ABSORB ODORS....how can they not come sealed and protected?!?

Again,... horrible smell...can''t use them. Won''t return, as I don''t have the time.... but I wish I had listened to other reviewers about these not being the real thing! (or maybe even Whirlpool isn''t selling the real thing! maybe in this day and age we can''t even hope for the "real thing"!)

I only purchase items directly from Amazon, so I can''t speak to the other reviews complaining about 3rd party replacement filters being shipped instead of the OEM filters--the filters Amazon shipped to me are genuine Whirlpool filters.

The pre-filters have small slits pre-cut towards the top of the filter, which makes it very easy to position the new filter exactly where it needs to be on the grill. Once placed onto the front grill''s guide tabs, all that''s required is gently pushing the filter material into place and reattaching the grill to the air purifier.

I have been very impressed by the amount of dust and pet hair that these pre-filters are able to capture within their 3 month lifespan. The primary purpose of these filters is to capture the larger dust particles, thereby extending the life of the more expensive HEPA filter (which gets changed once per year). Despite the relatively small amount of activated carbon in these pre-filters, I have been impressed by their ability to quickly neutralize light cooking and catbox odors.

In my opinion, these filters are a great value and perform as expected.

+ Cup warmer is a nice addition, but actually by the time the water boiler is hot and ready to brew the cup warmer (which is heated by the water boiler) has only begun to start warming up, thus the cups really wont be warm unless the aroma has been on for about 20mins.. I usually preheat by brewing the hot water into the empty cups, (which the instruction booklet recommends)

+ None of the stainless parts will rust, including the grate under the cups

+ I myself think the frothing wand is fine out of the box, (please read up on milk frothing guides online to get the best out of this machine.) With a little skill and a good 20oz frothing pitcher, I was making sweet creamy cappuccinos with dense micro-foam in no-time at all. (Seattle Coffee gear sells a nice panarello upgrade on their site for around $40 usd).

I am not a coffee aficionado however I do love good espresso. I have had the Saeco Aroma machine for 2 months now. My main criticism regards the milk steamer wand with panerello. Because of the configuration and compact size of the machine, the panerello is very awkward to use. To fit a pitcher of milk under it and remove it without spilling I set the machine at the edge of a table with the wand overhanging. I was not particularly happy with the quality of the foam so I completely removed the plastic panerello assembly from the wand and now steam milk using the bare stainless steel tube. This is a reasonable solution except that the tube is very short without the panerello. Regarding the espresso quality, although I have made many a good cup of espresso, I have yet to coax a superior shot out of the pressurized portafilter. In fact, I got equal results with my old $60 Krups that had a non-pressurized portafilter and lacked a steam pump, working on steam pressure only. I was also disappointed to find that the steam valve knob is of plastic, not stainless steel like the body of the machine and has a cheap feel and look. The jury is still out. Maybe for the price this is as good as it gets. I recommend checking this machine out at a store before buying on-line because the steam wand configuration may be a deal breaker for you.

I''ve been looking for an espresso machine to replace a 12-year-old Krups steam-driven espresso machine which finally died (the steam wand gave out). None of the machines under $300 seem to get consistently good reviews on Amazon but the Saeco Aroma Espresso got the best reviews of the cheaper-end machines. So, I ordered it through Amazon. After it arrived, I was looking forward to enjoying good espresso coffee (but a little apprehensive about the steam wand problems other users reported). The first thing I did was to run a tank of water through the machine to clean it (recommended by the manual before first use). Well, guess what: the steam wand wasn''t a problem no trouble getting my milk pitcher under the wand and no leaks! Ah, I thought this machine is going to work out after all.

But the next step was to run water through the pressurized portafilter and that''s where I ran into problems. The portafilter leaked like crazy! Most of the hot water dripped into the cup under the portafilter but a lot of it leaked out above the portafilter and ran down the handle to my kitchen counter. I removed the portafilter and ran hot water directly into the cup with no problems. So the problem was with the portafilter water just wasn''t getting through it as it should. I looked at the rubber gasket inside the portafilter and it appeared intact; so there must have been an obstruction somewhere else inside the portafilter. I wasn''t going to disassemble it find out. It''s a new machine, never used before, and it should have worked right out of the box.

So, I''m going to contact Amazon about returning this machine. I''m undecided about whether to ask for a replacement machine or just give up on the idea of being able to make my own espresso coffee at a reasonable price. Maybe a moka pot is the way to go to get an espresso-like coffee. It''s certainly cheaper and simpler to use than these big machines, which take up a lot of counter space and break down at a remarkably high rate.

I''ll update this review when I decide which way I''m going to go.

UPDATE: Amazon won''t replace it only refund my money when I return the machine. That''s too bad because I''ll never know if the machine was badly made or just this particular portafilter was broken. I''m back to square 1 again.

UPDATE: I decided to call Saeco and ask for a replacement for the faulty portafilter and they agreed to send me one. I''ll update my review when I receive and use it.

UPDATE: I received the replacement portafilter from Saeco (no charge) and I''m going to raise my rating to 4 stars, based on the espresso maker''s performance with the replacement. It works very well and I''ve enjoyed several cups of espresso made with the Saeco Aroma machine. It is simple and easy to use and makes an excellent espresso with nice crema. I''m still a bit leery regarding its durability since some reviews on this site suggest it could fail at any time. I haven''t tried the steam wand yet; since I drink espressos rather than lattes or cappuccinos. But I may try to brew some of those to try out the steam wand. In any case, if my experience with this espresso maker causes me to further revise my opinion to any great degree, I''ll provide another update later.

UPDATE: I ran into an unexpected problem with this machine. The first month I used ground coffee to brew espresso but then I decided to see how it would handle E.S.E pods. I followed the instructions remove the ground coffee basket from the portafilter and insert the E.S.E. basket included with the machine. There''s just one major obstacle: I can''t lock the portafilter into the machine with the E.S.E basket in it. It looks like there isn''t quite enough clearance for the portafilter to lock into place with pod basket in it. So, it seems as though I can''t use E.S.E pods a major flaw! And an odd one, considering I''m using the E.S.E. basket Saeco provided. I don''t know if it''s a problem only with the machine I bought or a design flaw with the machine. So, if you plan to brew espresso using pods, you should be aware of this potential problem. I''ll contact Saeco to see if they have a solution, e.g, replacing the E.S.E basket. If I get this resolved, I''ll update my review.

UPDATE: I called Saeco and the company sent me a replacement rubber gasket for the E.S.E pod basket in the hope this would fix the problem. But it didn''t. Either the rubber gaskets provided with the E.S.E pod baskets are too thick or some part of the brew head is projecting too far into the pod basket to allow the portafilter to lock in. I still don''t know if this is a general problem or a problem peculiar to my machine. I doubt it can be resolved short of returning it to Saeco for examination and/or repair. I''m not willing to risk that since the machine works well otherwise. I suppose I''ll just have to forgo using pods to brew espresso with this particular machine.

UPDATE: Thanks to a reviewer''s comment, I''ve revised my rating and review of this product. I was using the equipment incorrectly and it was not at fault I was! Now I''m enjoying delicious cups of espresso using pods! Please read the instructions closely and don''t make the mistake I was making. I highly recommend this product now!

Want Saeco Aroma - Espresso Machine Discount?

Bought two of these. One in 2008 (under two bills for the stainless) which is still workign with some problems, and one in 2010 (about 10% more).

The first one died with multiple problems at two years: permanently leaking stream wand, profuse leaking above porta-filter (this despite filter being well cleaned with the tiny holes all open).

The second one, which is clearly a lower build quality failed at thirteen months with even more issues. The thermostat failed causing boiler to go to steam temps when set at brew temps and resulting in burned espresso. If you are curious about Seaco service, give them a call even before you buy, and describe one of the three or four known problems posted here. In essence forget about repair. In-warranty is bad enough with exorbitant handling charges; out-of-warranty, any repair will net cost you 3/4 the cost of a new machine.

Be VERY cautious about the well meaning early reviews here. My guess is that the reviews from over two years go are not revisited and that those machines are DEAD. You can see this on espresso aficionado forums where the glowing reviews on forums from two years ago now show people''s machines died in very high number and Saeco was not helpful at all. Their attitude seems to want to squeeze even more moeny by charging just short of replacement cost for any repair, even the smallest. More alarming yet is that one can clearly see the build quality is lower and Saeco is coasting on the early good reviews it got and now shipping inferior made product. e''en the portafilter is a different cheaper material.

Al that said, if you go into expecting an average of one to two years this is a decent machine at about two bills that you can find it at from time to time.

I lived in Switzerland for four years and while there my standards for coffee changed quite dramatically. Hence on my return to the US my first purchase was this machine. While I was living in Switzerland I went through two Nespresso machines which were a pain in the patootie to keep descaled and operational. Both were hosed by the time I left. I was impressed with the Jura machines owned by Swiss friends and neighbors. I have had this machine for 8 months now and have never regretted my decision to purchase it. It is smart enough to tell you when it needs cleaning and the instructions (unlike the Nespresso machinges I have owned) were very clear. Cleaning is automated and a snap to accomplish. Just initiate the program and it will be through by the time you finish doing the breakfast dishes. The one downside is that it is quite large so you will have to devote quite a bit of counter space to it and if you are big coffee drinkers you will also have to fill the rather small water reservoir quite often but other than that the machine is a dream and if you buy the right beans (hint: buy Lavazza beans here on Amazon on auto order VERY economical) you will have lovely coffee moments. No need for ''bucks unless you want WiFi.

I''ve had the jura for 4 months now and previously owned a gaggia automatic expresso machine and have made over 200 lattes so far with the jura. I love the small size of the jura, the coffee is great once you adjust it to suit your tastes. i like the fact that everything is automated and being warned stops me running out of water half way through an expresso like i did with the gaggia. it is easy to clean and is a great machine.

There are two flaws which is why I''m giving this 3 stars. Firstly the milk frothing wand comes lose and when it does sprays milk and stream over nearby surfaces and you. At first this happened rarely and i put it down to me not having the wand seated securely, however after 4 months of making lattes i check before every coffee and the wand will no longer stay on long enough to do enough milk for one latte. this is very annoying and potentially dangerous as steam and hot milk tend to go over your hand. The second problem is the water tank, it is fairly small but is around the back of the machine so if you have the machine on a kitchen surface with a cupboard above it is awkward to get the water tank out and more awkward getting it back in when filled with water.

would i buy one again? not sure have complained to jura and will see if they can fix the problem with the wand. I suspect it is a design flaw since I''ve seen other people also complain about this. if you are using mainly for lattes like me I wouldn''t buy this model.

This is our second Jura Capresso machine, and, although we''ve only had it for a few weeks now, we couldn''t be happier with it. We bought it to replace a Jura Capresso Impresso machine that we had bought here on Amazon about a few years ago that just gave out on us. Before that, we had had a Saeco automatic machine, but we''ve found that we like the Jura one better: it puts out stronger coffee, looks sleeker and nicer sitting on the countertop, and is easier to keep clean. This ENA4 also has a smaller footprint than our past two machines.

This is also easy to use, and the instruction manual it comes with is very thorough.

My husband uses just cream in his coffee and espresso, but I usually drink mine as caffe lattes. For such, I use either skim milk, soy milk creamer, or coconut milk creamer, and it has steamed all three beautifully, leaving me with wonderful foam, if I desire it.

One big piece of advice is that when you have an automatic machine like this, you shouldn''t use oily or greasy beans. We buy beans from a local coffee brewer or stock up on the Lavazza Super Crema Espresso beans and get them on Subscribe and Save. Using the proper beans will ensure that you have a nice crema on the top of your coffee.

The upkeep of the Jura is also more expensive than that of a Saeco. The cleaning tablets and Clearyl filters you have to buy can add up, so just know that upkeep of this machine is another cost to factor in. I think we have to replace the filter about once every three to four months, that is with us making about five to ten shots of coffee/espresso each day.

Several other reviewers commented that the water tank is pretty small on this machine, and that is definitely true. I usually have to fill it each morning, but it''s not too much of a pain. Since the tank sits at the back of the machine on this model, though, you''ll need to be have room to slide it up and out of the back area.

A few other reviewers mentioned that this makes weak coffee, but I don''t agree at all. The type of beans you use makes a huge difference, and we''ve found that the Jura makes cafeor restaurant-quality espresso.

Additionally, be very careful when cleaning the dredge drawer (with the grounds in it) that you move the steamer wand out of the way. I accidentally bumped the one a few days after we''d gotten this, and didn''t realize that it had come dislodged; when I went to steam my milk, the bottom blew off, shooting out hot steam. I noticed that in a comment to another review for this machine, someone left a link for how to fix this.

Overall, we love our Jura! It''s one of our more expensive household "toys," but, if you''re serious about your coffee, you''ll love having one of these coffee centers. After all, it''s the little things in life that make a difference, right?

I will also try to update my review after we''ve had this awhile longer.

The little machine works fine except for the frother wand and beans stalling in the hopper as so many have mentioned. An easy fix for the frother wand blowing off is to visit an auto supply store and pick up one or several sizes of silicone "O" rings about 1 1/2" in diameter (we brought a pack set for about $4.50 to find the right size). Loop the O ring over the top of the metal frother connection to the machine and pull the frother open and push the bottom of the ring into the gap between the two rubber parts of the open frother. The "sling" works like a charm. It would seem that the Jura people could have come up with an equally easy fix.

Hamilton Beach 47665 BrewStation Plus 12-Cup Automatic Drip Coffeemaker Save 28% Off

My bride and I have owned probably a half-dozen or so coffeemakers during out 15-year marriage. We both love coffee in the morning, and we like to have it piping hot and ready when we rise. We''ve had some very good coffeemakers and owned a variety of brands and models. But all but two had one major Achilles'' heel a glass carafe. However hard we might try, those glass carafes always got broken. And when they got broken, the unanimous refrain from stores and manufacturers was: "Sorry, we don''t offer that version anymore." So, it was a new coffeemaker or nothing.

We also owned one of those fancy units with an insulated carafe. Well, at least for the unit we bought, that cuts two ways. Yes, the coffee inside is insulated from the frigid winds of our kitchen. It is also effectively insulated from a warmer (which the unit did not have or, obviously, need). Now I can tell you that, with the possible exception of the most secret research bowels of NASA, there is no insulated carafe in the universe that is as effective as a warmer unless one consumes one''s coffee very quickly.

Not only does this unit make great coffee, there is no carafe to break!! Or wash!! Thank you, thank you, thank you Hamilton Beach. We love it.

One caveat: when the user''s manual tells you to regularly descale the unit, do so. Else the machine will get sulky and simply refuse to brew your coffee. It''s probably unionized, who knows, but it does effectively sit down on the job. Now the manual has been fine tuned by an attorney and recommends descaling monthly. Given the levels of dissolved mineral in our water, we descale once every six months and all is fine.

After reading all of the bad news about the rampant tank leakage problems of the Hamilton Beach Brewstation the next grade down (models 47224, 47114, 47214, 47221, 47111, & the like) I looked at one locally, & I agreed the housing & overall feel felt & looked on the junky side. So I went with this one, the Hamilton Beach Brewstation Plus, which seems a much more solidly built, sturdier model.

But there are some things I really needed to know about it first, & you may too.

When the Brewstation Plus arrived from Amazon, I tested the water tank. And yes, it steadily leaked water all over the counter top in great quantities. What a mess...right off the bat. So I studied the way it was made, & decided the water may be coming out around the metal heating plate screwed to the bottom of the tank vs. the dispenser seal. And so I got out my Phillips head screwdriver, & I tightened down all of the screws in the bottom of the tank. Being careful not to strip out the holes. And this has taken care of this problem tonight. No more leaks so far. There wasn''t just one or two loose, none of the screws were put in very tight in my unit. This definitely could cause it to leak everywhere in all directions. If mine arrived this way, I wonder how many more were shipped out the same way. If yours leaks, you may want to try tightening down all the screws first in the bottom of the tank first, test it, & try again before undergoing the hassle of shipping it back & waiting again for something else. At the same time, if you''re thinking you shouldn''t have to do this...you''re right.

The next thing you need to know is what you see in this ad is NOT the coffee machine you will get. This is major. I cannot stress this enough. One picture in this ad shows a 6 button coffee machine & one picture shows a 4 button coffee machine. I bought this model based on the 6 button image, started drooling over all the features, didn''t catch the discrepancy between it & the 4 button image & I ended up with a 4 button coffee machine in the mail. :|

The model I received has a green (not blue) clock with a programmable timer but it DOES NOT have the "1-4 Cup" & "Flavor+" features you see in the 2nd mouse-over image in this ad. And after all of the trouble I went through to mail order the model I saw featured that just sux. The model number 47665 on the box matches the ad so I can only blame myself for not noticing that Amazon is showing you TWO DIFFERENT MODELS in the SAME AD & for not researching & verifying it elsewhere. Though I shouldn''t have to do this either... Instead, I trusted what I saw, & got so excited over "Flavor+" (I like to brew up a serious pot of ''mud''), & a scalable brew size, that I ordered away. Also, the LCD clock display will NOT be blue as seen above it will be green.

In retrospect, I''d rather have paid $11 less & just got a Brewstation Plus locally featuring nothing but the On/Off button sight seen & enjoyed coffee all last week, vs. waiting on a mail order, & then being disappointed with the model I was actually sent. I bought this model because I really wanted the 1-4 Cup & Flavor+ features in picture #2, & don''t care much about programming my coffee. I''ll be calling Amazon to report this error.

Thirdly, to avoid the pervasive "plastic coffee" taste problem so many customers report make sure you run a LOT of water through the machine first. The manual suggests running through at least 2 cycles but you will need to run it through a LOT more water cycles than that, even if you wash the tank out well first, to get the oily film off the surface of the water that comes out. If you still see factory oil in your water, you''ll probably still taste plastic.

Lastly, the well-maligned Hamilton Beach reusable metal mesh coffee filter actually MAY work with the Brewstation Plus. People are saying that it fits too loose & will not work with the regular Brewstation (see models listed in first paragraph), but it may fit more snug in the Brewstation Plus models, due to differences in filter basket design. I bought a reusable mesh filter locally, & it measured way too high to use in this machine, so that I couldn''t close the lid down all the way. So I may try the Hamilton Beach filter instead...unless this machine completely malfunctions & goes off the deep end...we''ll see.

I hope this helps to keep someone from making the same mistake I did & ordering this item based on the 6 button picture. Or from shipping their Brewstation back too soon in place of a possible quick fix.

UPDATE:

I called Amazon to let them know about the picture error in the ad mentioned above & instead of fixing the error Amazon has now added TWO wrong pictures... Buyers need to know the Hamilton Beach BrewStation Model 47665 has ONLY 4 BUTTONS NOT 6 BUTTONS, as pictured above now in not 1 but TWO incorrect images for this model. If you order Model 47665, expecting a machine to arrive with the 6 buttons features you see pictured above you may be as disappointed as I was by only receiving a 4 BUTTON machine, with no "1-4 Cup" or "Flavor+" settings, because that''s what model 47665 really is. (Hello! Amazon...??)

Neither I, nor Amazon CS over the phone, could locate a 6 BUTTON model Hamilton Beach Brewstation for purchase anywhere in Amazon''s website. If they had one for sale, I would have bought one & Amazon told me they don''t have any 6 button models for sale. So, buyer beware.

In the first Brewsation received, I discovered a 2" long crack in the main housing of the coffee machine iself in a critical place where water could leak down into the machinery, & I had to send it back & wait on a replacement.

The coffee tank in the replacement I received leaked as well, but not as much as the first one I was sent. Again, gently tightening the screws to the hot plate in the bottom of the coffee tank permanently resolved this issue. After tightening, the second one no longer leaks now either.

The method I find that works best to flush the "plastic coffee" taste & oily factory smell out of the machine is flushing with several tanks of water, & then brewing several 4 cup cycles white vinegar, & then brewing several tanks of water again to flush the vinegar out. The vinegar seems to get the smell out of the machine faster than just water, & it''s a cheap, organic fix compared to flushing with descaling chemicals.

I have a Hamilton Beach Model 80675 Permanent Gold Tone Filter on order, & will post again to let people know whether it actually fits THIS model, Brewstation 47665. It''s been pointed out in several reviews that the Hamilton Beach Permanent Filter does not fit other Brewstations the next grade down (those models listed in the first paragraph). And, I found that the permanent filter made by Mr. Coffee stands too high to use in this model to close the lid down for brewing, & had to return it. It will not work with this machine. So, we shall see.

Some people with various Hamilton Beach Brewstation models have complained that the coffee is weak when made as per the manual''s instruction. I AGREE. And here is how I resolved this issue...

The instruction manual says not to put more than 1 scoop of coffee into the filter per cup brewed. BUT if the Brewstation is made to brew 12 cups of coffee, with 12 scoops in the filter it will also brew 8 cups of coffee, with 12 scoops in the filter. No matter how much or how little water you put in up to 12 cups, so long as you don''t go over 12 scoops of coffee, the machine won''t overflow. So I brew 8 cups of water with 12 scoops of coffee in the filter & I get nice, strong, tasty coffee. And since you WILL NOT get the "Flavor+" feature you see pictured above if you like strong coffee too you might want to give this method a try.

Misleading & incorrect advertisements, & do-it-yourself coffee tank leak fixes aside I think model 47665 does brew nice coffee. And it brews it the way I like to prepare my coffee, which is the primary reason I went with this design. I like being able to pour in a large amount of water, mix together all of my special sugared up cappuchino vanilla latte fixings in my 52oz. thermal Bubba Mug while it brews (why just have a cup of coffee, when you can have an entire JUG?? : D ) & then gradually stir the coffee into the mug straight from the Brewsation. After that, I turn the machine off, because my coffee stays hot enough for me in the jumbo thermal mug. And with 12 scoops of Foglifter making 8 cups of coffee I am "Starbucks Rogers" whizzing past Mars & sailing for Jupiter.......!! : D

I have been using the Hamilton Beach 47665 BrewStation Plus 12-Cup Automatic Drip Coffeemaker for about six months. I purchased it because a colleague was raving about how much she loved hers and my current coffee maker was on its last legs. I have to say that, in the beginning, it was a match made in heaven. I loved everything about it: there was no coffee pot, the coffee was piping hot, and it was just fun to use. Now I hate that water drips on my counter whenever I open the top, the first cup of coffee is tepid, and it takes forever to get the coffee because the flow is now reduced to a dribble (no matter how many times I clean it the recommended way). This morning, when I got no coffee at all, was the final straw --it was full and ready to go and just didn''t brew. I cleaned out the tank really well and was amazed and sickened by the amount of black "gunk" that came pouring out (remember that I have religiously cleaned it the recommended way). I did an internet search and realized, yet again, that it certainly pays to do homework before buying an appliance. This coffee maker has many, many, many enthusiastic reviews by new owners but just as many, if not more, reviews by long term owners that are quite negative. My advice: pass on this coffee maker and keep looking. And if anyone stumbles across a reasonably priced, good, dependable (over the long haul) coffee maker that makes hot coffee...I would love to hear about it.

No leaks. The clock/timer works.

The water gets lip-burning hot.

I ran water through it twice before making our first brew and it tasted plasticky. We''ll have to run it a few more times until it''s "seasoned".

Almost bought the $99.00 Zojirushi and $100 Cuisinart at the mall. Got a great deal on the Hamilton Beach locally. Just a few dollars less than Amazon. Though Amazon still has one of the best deals with free shipping and all. I think that this model is the best deal for a brewstation.

Dispensing our coffee is the best part. We hope it lasts.

Hamilton Beach 12 Cup Digital Coffeemaker

I''ve tried many coffee makers over the years and this model #46201 by Hamilton Beach is by far the best I''ve ever owned. There are several very intuitive features that make this particular coffee maker stand apart from the rest. The description and pictures on this Amazon listing don''t even begin to describe the features that make this coffee maker great, so I will describe them for you.

1. Removable water reservoir The bottom of the coffee maker is equipped with little rollers. To fill the coffee maker with water, you simply turn the coffee maker around 90 degrees, grab the reservoir by the little handle and lift up to remove it. Take it over to the sink, fill it up, drop the reservoir back into place, and spin the coffee maker back around. This solves two problems that most other coffee makers have, in that I don''t have to pull the machine out from underneath the kitchen cabinet in order to open the lid, and I also don''t have to worry about trying to pour the water into a tiny little opening in the back of the machine. Great feature.

2. Front access to coffee ground basket The coffee ground basket is located above the decanter, and it swings out to the front, giving me easy access to add my coffee and filter. Again, no more pulling the machine out in order to open the top lid like other coffee makers. There is a button on the right side of the machine, and when pushed the basket is released and it swings out to meet you. It takes regular sized flat bottom coffee filters, and the bottom of the coffee basket has the little spring loaded button that stops the flow of coffee if you decide to pull the decanter out while the coffee is still brewing.

3. Burner Temperature control There is a button on the front that allows you to control the temperature of the burner under the decanter. It has three settings. I love this because after the coffee is done brewing, I can turn the burner temp down a bit and then my coffee can sit there in the pot for a while and not end up with a bitter burnt taste. With my old Cuisinart coffee maker, the coffee would taste completely burnt if it sat on the burner for more than half an hour. Burnt coffee no more!

4. Brew settings There are 3 brew settings: Regular, 1-4 Cups, and Bold. The bold setting simply releases the water at a slower rate when brewing so the water has more time to extract the maximum flavor from the coffee grounds. If you like your coffee with a bold flavor, then this feature is for you.

5. The decanter does not dribble This was a big selling point for me. The decanter for the Cuisinart coffee maker we just had (it''s in the trash can now) dribbled like you wouldn''t believe. We were finding ourselves keeping a towel next to the coffee maker because every time you poured a cup of coffee you had to clean up a mess of coffee that dribbled down the side of the decanter onto the counter top. This decanter spout has a nice deep groove to it, and it pours like a dream.

It also has the regular features that can be expected such as a clock, and the ability to set it for delayed brew. I would say the only thing that I don''t like about this machine is the blue light on the display, but that is just me. This coffee maker does exactly what it is supposed to and has none of the annoying flaws that most other coffee makers suffer from. I would like to meet the engineer who designed this machine and shake their hand. My morning coffee is much more pleasurable now.

Got this coffeemaker December 2010. I have no complaints about it making coffee. Got up one morning and there were no lights on coffeemaker. Did the usual checks, but it had quit. Called Hamilton Beach, followed their directions and for ten dollars had a new coffeemaker in less than two weeks.

The second coffeemaker also lasted about 10 months. When it worked it was a great coffee maker but the electronics quit. I bought another brand.

When I couldn''t remember where I purchased my previous coffee maker, I went to the website and found it readily available and ready to ship. It is an exact match to the one I had purchased earlier in the store, but now, when I have groups over, I set one for regular and one for decaf and they''re a matched set. Excellent coffee and perfect match!

The best feature of this coffee maker is the reservoir in the back. You just lift it off and fill it, rather than bringing the entire machine to the sink. When you''ve put the water in, just click it back into place on the back, and push the start button. Fantastic idea! And the only one I''ve found like it.

I purchased this coffee pot for one salient reason... the removable reservoir. I find it much easier to remove it and fill it up at the sink rather than trying to pour a coffee pot full of water into one. Unfortunately, coffee pots with this feature are few and far between. Also on the plus side is that it is compact, nice looking, has easy to read buttons and changeable temperature settings. The coffee filter area also has a no fuss, no muss design.

The biggest reason it didn''t make it to 5 stars for me is that it is probably the slowest coffee pot I have ever owned. It takes close to double the time of our last one. Changing it from bold to regular doesn''t seem to make a difference in the brewing time.

Why isn''t every coffee maker made like this? The removable water tank simply pops off and you fill it at the sink, then pop it right back in. No more pulling out the coffee maker from under the cabinet, or tipping it to get the pot at the right angle to pour water into some tiny opening in the back. And the pot does not drip when you pour a cup really. With our last two coffee makers, between the water spilling and coffee drips, we used to keep a (coffee spotted) dish cloth near them all the time. Spilled water, coffee drips, dish cloth all gone now.
