Hamilton Beach 40515 42-Cup Coffee Urn

Hamilton Beach 40515 42-Cup Coffee Urn, SilverI have owned several Hamilton Beach Coffee Urns in the past 20 years and I''m a pretty heavy duty user. I''ve preferred them in the past because of all the brands I''ve ever owned, they keep the water the hottest. They don''t last the longest (the spigot usually develops a leak), but that''s the trade-off considering the price. My current objection has to do with the plastic cover on top, and it''s become a real health hazard. The cover on mine started to disintegrate into tiny black pieces that fell into the water. If you''re making coffee, you won''t even notice it at first (I only noticed it because I use my urn to brew large quantities of plain hot water).

We have a large (extended) family living in one household and we go through 4-5 pots of coffee in a day. This urn is an inexpensive way for us to meet the demands of all the coffee drinkers here. And everyone likes the coffee it makes. The only thing I miss that I have on the drip machine is the timer (we have a couple of very early risers) and easy on/off. We attached ours to a timer so that it will start brewing early enough. One other thing not a complaint, but a note about how it works, since it is a percolater, it takes longer to brew. Expect about 20 minutes for a full pot.

We use this coffee urn every day. If we wear it out, I will purchase another one just like it as it is so reasonably priced!

This coffee maker makes the best cup of coffee ever. The other 41 cups are very good too. It takes about 40 minutes to brew 42 cups of coffee. we even sneak out a few cups before the red light comes on.

This product produces a good cup of coffee and keeps it warm (not burnt) for hours. My only concern is that there is no On/Off switch. That means that you have to make sure to fill the water and add the coffee grounds and close the top before plugging it in. Not a big deal, though. Great product for the cost!

Not a coffee drinker, bought it for hot chocolate at holiday parties. Worked great, however there is no temperature control and it gets really, really hot, keep a good stock of whip cream if using it for hot chocolate.

Culligan ISH-200 In-line Shower Filter Save 31% Off

Culligan ISH-200 In-line Shower Filter, Chrome
  • Reduces aesthetic chlorine, sulfur odor, scale
  • Polished chrome finish
  • Easy to install - no tools required
  • Easy change filter
  • Bacteriostatic (indicates that the system limits the passage or growth of bacteria that may already exist in the incoming water)

I am a drinking water plant manager. I decided to install this unit in my shower to prevent my hair from drying out from the chlorine in the water. After installation, it seemed that my hair was less dry, but I wanted to test to see if all the chlorine was removed from the water. After testing the tap and the filtered water, I found that this filter only removed approximately 0.5 ppm free chlorine. The tap water was 1.19 ppm and the filtered water was 0.74 ppm free chlorine. Also, I tested the total hardness and alkalinity of the filtered water. Neither the total hardness or the alkalinity changed significantly after filtration. So my conclusion is that: the filter only removes a portion of chlorine and it does not remove any minerals.

It seems that the 0.5 ppm removal of chlorine is enough to keep my hair from drying out, but I would not buy this product if you expect 100% removal of chlorine.

Let me start by saying I am a walking Wikipedia when it comes to water and water filtration. I know way more than most plumbers. I have owned Berkey, Doulton,Aquasanas and several other brands of filters. I have made my own filters as well. I grew with a salt type water softener too

Where we live now we rent and I am not putting in a whole house filter. This filter does every bit as good as an average 3 stage whole house filter! We have super hard water and it takes all the rust and sediment right out! It works GREAT with a hand held 1.5 GPM shower head too.

Our skin and hair is softer and cleaner. Our tub finally STAYS clean with no hard water spots. I am very very impressed with the quality and price.

I know some reviewers whine about installation. Do NOT listen to them. I had ZERO issues installing it. I used a pair of pliers and some white plumber''s tape. NO leaks or drips. You do have to adjust it a lil to get just where you want it but that''s ok. It does work very well with a hand held shower too.

This filter has really made my showers more enjoyable. There is no more chlorine smell and my water actually looks cleaner (it''s much more clear). My hair feels much softer, and putting shampoo in it is a lot less of a task. An unexpected benefit is that I have to clean my shower a lot less, now. There is a mush less scale build-up after showering since I''ve started using this filter.

As for the physical aspects, this filter is very sturdy. For anyone that''s hesitant about buying the cheap plastic version, for fear of it breaking, I strongly suggest that you give the chrome version a try. It seems sturdier than "regular plastic". I haven''t experienced any leaks while using this filter. I used the teflon tape, but it doesn''t seem to be necessary.

Also, the filter did negatively affect my water pressure a little, but that''s to be expected.

I purchased this filter at the same time I purchased a new shower head. I figured, two birds, one stone. Plus, this includes a small roll of Teflon tape, so I didn''t need to pick any up for this, or the new shower head. *Score!*

This filter unit is rather well built, and appears to be completely metal, except for the filter inside of the housing. Installation couldn''t be easier. I installed this filter and my new shower head in around fifteen minutes. The only design issue I found is the hand tightened nut. I believe that it should have been configure for a wrench. It''s difficult to tighten enough to keep the entire unit still when attaching a shower head to it. However, the filter seems to be working great. My wife and I both feel like our skin is not as dry and itchy. It must have been caused by the chlorine in our water. Also, the level of soap scum has dropped significantly since I installed this unit.

Pros:

-Well built.

-Easy to access the filter.

-Includes Teflon tape.

-Easy installation.

-Less chlorine.

-Less mineral deposits.

Cons:

-Hand tightened connection nut. (Might be fine for most, but I prefer one that accommodates wrenches.)

-Showering is too enjoyable... I believe my shower time has increased by almost 50 percent. (Not necessarily a bad thing.)

This is the second one I bought for another showerhead I decided to replace in my house. As expected, it takes away the bitter taste of the water and since it''s a filter, I expect that I won''t be cleaning the showerhead for buildup and other contaminants. A worthwhile investment in my opinion, especially since you can install your choice showerhead to it (recommended for showerheads and not moveable shower arms as the movement could break this...there is another model for moveable arms).

One small negative is that they tell you that you install without tools and twist the inlet by hand...it would drip small amounts of water. So I used a monkey plier to tighten it and it stops leaking (well there was one drop per 20 seconds, which eventually stopped on its own).

MistyMate Cool Patio 30 foot 16 nozzle professional grade misting system

MistyMate Cool Patio 30 foot 16 nozzle professional grade misting systemI would give this 100 stars. It is the best product I have ever bought and the price was unbelievable. I am 59 years old, and female. I put the system up in about half an hour, turned it on and within fifteen minutes the temperature on my patio dropped at least 10 degrees!! It was during the hottest part of our summer and I would have done and paid anything to be able to survive the heat. I was really concerned about my Mother''s health in the heat. Not only were we able to go out on the patio during the day but my living room windows were open and it cooled my living room where it was more than just bareable! I have bought their umberellas with the cooling system built in for around the chairs under the gazebo for next year. We love our backyard and these systems make if possible for us to go out in the Summer. We cannot say enough good about the system, the cost or the durability of the product. Also I contacted the company with my gratitude for their product and met some very nice people who were also very happy that we enjoyed their product. My sincere thanks for this product.

This product is great, with a few twists. This concept has been around since at least the 1950''s. However, this manufacturer succeeded in producing a unit that works, at a modest price that anyone can afford. The hotter and drier it gets, the better this system works.

I live in a large log home in the high desert mountains of the Southwest.

During the summer, the huge logs (over a foot thick) absorb sunlight to the point it makes it oppressively hot in the house, and, it stays hot until about five in the morning when the logs finally radiate all of the heat.

I installed this on a South facing porch with an almost flat roof. The porch gets over 100 in July and August because the sun beats down on the almost flat roof for the entire day.

This cools the porch by about 20 degrees. It cools the air by twenty degrees, and, cools the wood that heats up by seven or eight in the evening (instead of waiting for the heat to dissapate, by itself, around 5:00 in the morning).

It took a few hours to get it set up and working. I had to add a washer, with a strainer, to the connection with my garden hose. Then, the line kept popping off the hose connector. I was able to solve it with some thread tape Aa Thread Seal Tape Inc 01440161 Thread Seal Tape 1"x520" (Pack of 50) on the hose connector, and, by using a very small hose clamp I got at a local hardware store. 40 Pc Hose Clamp Assortment

CLOGGED NOZZLES: If you have hard water, or, water with a bunch of junk in it, then the nozzles may occasionally clog. Over a period of two years using this, I found that most of the nozzles will unclog by themselves within a day or two. If they don''t, all you have to do is remove the little nozzle and soak it in an ounce or two of white vinegar. The vinegar will dissolve the junk in the water from the nozzles within an hour or two.

I found that if the temperature is only in the 80''s or 90''s, you don''t need to use the full pressure from your hose. You can just use about half pressure, just enough to make the nozzles produce evaporative mist. This way you can save water until the temperatures get above 100. When they climb that high, just give this system full blast pressure and it will still cool the area around your house 20 30 degrees.

I also added other innovations to the South and West sides of my house. I planted grapevines so that their huge leaves would spread all over the South wall of the house. They love the full sun and the high heat on the South side. Not only are they pretty, they help shade and cool the whole area, and, they love the mist from this product.

I also use "shade sails" (an innovation from Australia) to shade the major portions of the walls that were absorbinb the sunshine in the winter. They are removeable, in the winter when you want the sun to heat the house, and they save me about $800 every summer in air conditioning expense by shading the house from the sun. Coolaroo Square Shade Sail 11 Feet 10 Inches with Hardware Kit, Desert Sand

Lastly, in the summer evenings, I usually only use the bedroom. I purchased a small (1200 watt (uses about as much electricity as a hair dryer)) portable commercial air conditioner just for the bedroom. This way I only have to use the small air conditioner for a few hours in the hot afternoon, before bedtime, without having to cool the whole house. Haier CPN12XH9 12K Portable Air Conditioner

I have used mine for 3 years now. I have added lines each year and now my home is a retreat for birds, dogs, frogs, and lizzards. All of us love the way the mister reduces the humidity/temps when in use. Last summer I draped one line across two trees for the party we had. They would drive thru on 4wheelers ...the mister to cool off in the 100+ degree weather. They are taken up at the end of the summer and stored until the following year. Dunno why people haven''t pickup on this product for heat relief.... geeeeze duh!!!!! Check out my photos of the mister/animals loving it... Now I have something for the brrrr cold winter IR heaters (see my review) and something for the hot texas heat (misters). Next on my list... automated robot vacuum cordless cleaner .... like the Jetsons!!!! check back soon ;o)

Do not try to connect the unit directly to a garden hose without an thread adaptor. It looks like it will fit as the diameters of the connections are the same, but the threads per inch are different. The unit comes with a 3/4" plumbing thread, NOT a garden hose thread.

You need an adaptor such as a Watts A-669 Hose Adaptor (3/4" Male Hose to 3/4" Female Pipe Adaptor) or similar. Without this adaptor the threads don''t match up and you''ll just end up with a stripped thread and a dripping connection.

For a dripless connection I would recommend using plumbing teflon tape as well.

Once I took a few minutes (and a trip to the hardware store) to get the threads matched up the unit has been flawless!

Stay cool!

I think there''s some sandbagging going on here.

The same product is getting slammed on Amazon.com. I purchased this item, received it today and attempted to install. Several of the nozzles were missing and at least 5 were cracked and unusable. The cheap plastic hose attachment leaks like a sieve.

This product is pure unadulterated Chinese crap. I wasted 40 minutes setting it up to find out it leaks, drips, sprays streams of water everywhere and generally is just crap.

It''s gonna be 100 degrees here this weekend and I was hoping this would take the edge off the heat and let me use my patio.

Not gonna happen.

Run, don''t walk away from this.

I''ve had this air purifier around four months and it''s been in constant use in the bedroom. My video review explains more but in a nutshell, my perpetual morning stuffy nose was eliminated by this machine. I love it! Filters are easy to change (the carbon filter replacement light came on today after four months) and it is whisper quiet. Two thumbs way up for Fellowes Quiet Air Purifier with True HEPA Filter!

This is my new favorite gadget in my home. I was actually concerned that this would be too quiet, but it turned out to be the perfect amount of ''white noise'' to lull me to sleep. Just to put it into perspective, though, this unit is much larger than my old Honeywell air purifier yet much less noisy. I would say that the Honeywell was more vibrational noise, and annoying enough to make it difficult to hear the TV, whereas the Fellowes is barely noticeable but enough to block out distracting noises that keep me from sleeping (like my neighbors in the apartment next door).

The air quality in my room has been great since the machine has been running. Pollen has been crazy high lately, but I have not had any problems to speak of. As for cleaning/changing the filter, it is too early for me to comment on this since I haven''t had it that long.

I will now try very hard to think of something negative (which, there isn''t much at all). For some reason, my cat likes to jump on top of the unit. Sometimes, when he jumps off of the unit, I noticed that the unit tends to ''fall forward'' because of the way the weight is distributed. It probably wouldn''t hurt the machine, since the air comes out the top in such a way that the air flow wouldn''t be blocked. Still, the unit probably could have been engineered in such a way that it was more balanced and less likely to tip over.

In summary, if you are looking for a high-end air purifier to improve your air quality, then look no further.

UPDATE (6/2/12): It has been about 3 months since I started using the product, and the red light has come on to tell me that it is now time to change the charcoal filter -the one that is supposed to filter larger dust particles. This is consistent with what the manual recommends, and the replacement filter is available through Amazon and seems to be at a reasonable price, so I think that it will be worth the cost and effort. Something tells me, though, that the unit doesn''t really detect that the filter is dirty. I suspect that there is simply a timer that signals when the unit has been running for three months!

I bought this purifier for my bedroom to replace a purifier I thought was too loud. But this purifier is incredibly loud but not due to the fan--it''s due to the high pitched noises the PlasmaTRUE ionizer makes. Even on the high fan speed I can hear the PlasmaTRUE which means that to me it is essentially louder than the fan on any setting and so "low" mode is unbearably loud to me. It sounds like a quiet dentist drill to get an idea of the frequency. I''m not young enough to be able to hear the super high pitched text tones so I don''t know why I''m the first to complain about this. To top it off, PlasmaTRUE is impossible to disable. So this purifier was not able to stay in the bedroom. I''m still debating on whether to return it.

If you want more detail about PlasmaTRUE, I found this info in a pdf online:

"o What is PlasmaTRUETM Technology?

PlasmaTRUETM Technology creates electrical discharges that neutralize the smallest and most harmful impurities and pollutants at the molecular level.

o How do I know if the PlasmaTRUETM Technology is working?

The "+" and "-" signs contained in the blinking bubbles on your Indicator Screen indicate that the PlasmaTRUETM Technology is active. There is no way for the human eye to see the effect of PlasmaTRUETM.

o Is PlasmaTRUETM Technology harmful?

No PlasmaTRUETM Technology is safe and has been tested and validated per the latest regulation to show that it does not generate Ozone, as opposed to some competitors'' products

o Can I deactivate PlasmaTRUETM?

No, PlasmaTRUETM is always on.

o What is the difference between an ionizer and PlasmaTRUETM Technology?

There is no difference between an ionizer and PlasmaTRUETM Technology. Some ionizers produce Ozone that can be harmful to your health; however; PlasmaTRUETM Technology has been tested and validated per the latest regulation to show that it does not generate Ozone."

I purchased this hoping the author of the featured critical review was just being super sensitive about the PlasmaTRUE ionizer noise since there weren''t any others that mention the noise. He is spot on though. My unit was delivered today and I noticed it as soon as I turned it on. The noise it produces is very obnoxious and I also don''t know how others aren''t hearing the same thing. Perhaps it''s a defect in only some units. My wife can barely notice it, but for me it''s deal breaker. I called Fellowes support and the nice CSR seemed oblivious about reports of high-frequency noise coming from the ionizer. He said a "clicking noise" is normal, but wasn''t sure about a high pitched whine. I described it as sounding like muted, but continuous cricket chirping. Phone support wasn''t much help and I didn''t feel like returning the unit, so I took things into my own hands.

The noise became so annoying to me that I disassembled the housing and started inspecting the components. At first I was thinking that the ionizer leads just needed a cleaning or something, but they looked fine (they''re just two small prongs in the upper left housing of the unit). I ended up removing the plug from the control board that powers the "Plasma Doctor WHO-1300" which is what they apparently re-brand as "PlasmaTRUE". The plug is behind the HEPA FILTER LED in the power control housing. Here some quick directions for doing this:

1. Unplug the unit and remove the filter cover.

2. Remove the top two screws that hold on the display panel and set the panel aside. It will still be tethered by the display panel control cable.

3. Remove the two screws that hold the black power control housing.

4. Lift up the power control housing and take the tape off that holds the display panel control cable in place.

5. The housing can be opened by hand enough where you can get to the power plug for the PlasmaTRUE (follow the black wire that runs along the outside of the bottom of the housing).

6. Using a pair of needle-nose pliers, disengage the securing latch and gently pull upwards.

7. Tuck the plug under the housing and reassemble.

The unit works fine with the PlasmaTRUE powered down. The PlasmaTRUE indicator on the display still functions and it appears it is just for show. I am a huge fan of everything else about this product. The HEPA filtering is outstanding, the air quality sensor/auto control is legit, and the fan noise is barely audible when it is on low. I can deal with not having ionization if it means truly quiet operation.

If it were $30 cheaper or if I could disable the PlasmaTRUE without taking the unit apart I would give it 4/5 stars (5/5 stars if it were quiet). As it stands now I give it 3/5 for having to spend 5 minutes to disengage the ionizer and not being able to have the feature without the noise driving me crazy.

I purchased my Fellowes Quiet Air Purifier with True HEPA filter AP300PH about 4 weeks ago, and have been running it on the High setting 24/7 ever since. The first day I got it I ran it on the Turbo setting for about 3 hours to clean out my family room. It did a fantastic job! It is a little noisy on turbo, but DON''T let that stop you from purchasing it, because you hardly ever need to run it on Turbo!!! When it is on the High setting it sounds like a soft fan...Very Quiet!.....Most the time I don''t even realize it is on, and I don''t have to have the TV any louder either.

My indoor allergies have been SO much better since I purchased the AP300PH. Actually I have stopped having to use my NasalChrome nasal allergy spray, which I used to use several times a day. I have also stopped having to use an allergy mask, which I was having to use daily.

When I say I am thrilled with my purchase, I truly mean it!! I couldn''t be happier. I had a smaller, much noisier unit before this one, and didn''t run it much because it was so loud, even on low and it was supposed to be a quiet model....haha. So I returned it and got this unit.

Do yourselves a favor and buy this Air Purifier, you won''t be sorry!! An added bonus for me was the fact that nice clean air comes out the top of the unit like a gentle fan blowing fresh air.

I think this is the second review I have ever written, and I just can''t say enough good things about it!

It''s easy to move around, easy to open up to get to the pre-carbon filter and True HEPA filter when it''s time to replace them. Taking a look at mine, it doesn''t look like I will need to replace mine any time soon. Oh, by the way, my house is Extremely dusty and I have 3 dogs who shed a lot, so the AP300PH has a lot of allergens to deal with.

Ok.....I think I have said my piece. Go buy your own ;)

5 Gallon Water Bottle/Jug Hand Pump Save 73% Off

5 Gallon Water Bottle/Jug Hand PumpI bought this for a 5 gal bottle that we use to fill the dogs'' water bowl. For the most part it works. The bottle sits right next the water bowl so the extended spout is nice because it pours directly into the center of the bowl.

I am aware this item was less than $10 and I kept that consideration in mind while writing this. The item does what I intended, but I just wanted to point out issues I came across that might be useful or significant to others.

I believe the issues I have encountered are solely due to the quality of materials and build. First, the fastener where the pump sits on the bottle (lower portion with 2 threaded rings) does not hold the pump in place nor does it create a good seal. I find myself having to hold this part of the pump stationary with one hand while I pump with the other. Occasionally the pressure builds and forces the pump upwards thereby making it necessary to re-seat the pump on the bottle. Second, the threading for the white housing (surrounds the blue pump and spring)barely holds to the base of the pump. On occasion while pumping water I find that the white housing separates and I have to screw it back in place. Although I have found that it can be pushed back in place without screwing into the threads, which leads me to believe that the threads can and will wear out eventually. Lastly, I have noticed that the blue pump gets caught inside the pump frequently. It is easy to push down too far while pumping and when that happens the pump gets caught on the lip of the white housing.

Even with the abovementioned issues, I find that the pump does what I need. Since I only use it a few minutes each day, these are issues I can easily overlook.

The order was complete and I received it in a timely matter. I give the transaction a five star. However I give the product a one star for the following reason. It is piece of junk. Typical for an outsourced item like this made in China. The pump itself is made of extremely light gauge plastic. So light I thought at first there was nothing in the box when I took it out of the package. It is supposed to fit over your water bottle and tighten down with the plastic nut. You can not even tighten the nut by hand without it slipping off the threaded collar. This must be achieved to create a vacuum when you use the pump. I even tried a metal band clamp which worked. The problem is that air leaks through the pump itself so it doesn''t matter how tight the collar is. Would some one please let me know if any of these like products work any better. $10.00? This item isn''t worth the cost of the material it was made with. Again typical of outsourced crap made in other countries!

Buy 5 Gallon Water Bottle/Jug Hand Pump Now

I have the Dolphin hand pump just like this and bought this one to see how the cheaper one compares (needed a second pump at the office). This pump works reasonably well but the build quality is poor compared to the Dolphin: thinner plastic (moderately concerned about BPA leaching), much more movement in the pump (which can become lodged under the housing when pushed all the way down), and the tightening dial at the base does not hold the pump firmly to the water bottle (moves around while pumping). The cap on the end of the faucet is a nice addition, though, and it comes with a small cleaning brush. All in all, this feels like it would break pretty easily. I would advise spending the extra ten or fifteen (as shipping bumps this one up to around twelve anyway) to get one with better build quality, as you''ll probably want to use it for quite a while and pumps undergo frequent strain. If you''re only going to use it a short time and then toss it, it will serve for that purpose.

Essick Air ED11 800 Euro Console-Style Humidifier

Essick Air ED11 800 Euro Console-Style Humidifier, WhiteWhile it was a little frustrating to put together as the plastic parts need to snap together and you need a screw driver to wedge the plastic base for the top to fit properly. Make sure you wait 30 minutes after filling, for the wick to absorb the water, as the fan won''t work. Also be sure the over hang on the back of the wick filter is hung on the over hang at the back of the base unit. But we started with 34% humidity and in less than 24 hrs it came up to 50%. We used level 3 on the fan, as the higher levels are noisy, but at this level and result for what this product is supposed to do, it was great. Easy to fill, no taking out bottles, just pour into the reservoir. The humidistat on the unit registers too high. I put tape over it and use my small humidistat to measure the humidity. They could have left this part off. Anyway if you want the humidity to raise quickly, this is your item. A lot better than the old filter belt circular kinds.

I have had this unit for several years. It has outlasted all "Sears" brands and models.

Secrets to making it work: I use the 1041 wicks. Every two weeks or so, I take it into the bathroom, pull out the wick and using a hand held shower, spray off the wick thoroughly. This helps lower the mineral build-up and the wick lasts longer. Also I change wicks about every two months. So I need about three for the heating season.

Yes the electronic "humidistat" doesn''t work. Simple, I set the unit to a higher humidity than what is displayed. When I want to run it, I turn the unit on. When I want it off, I turn it off. And I use a separate humidity gauge. This one works wonderfully:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001F0RBI8/

Taylor 1523 Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer and Hygrometer

As for noise, I only run it on the 2, 3 or 4 level. Yes, you can crank it up, but just like any fan, the more you crank it the louder it gets... and I can hear the TV just fine even when this is running...

It''s much easier to carry a bucket of water to this unit to fill it up than clumsy bottles to drag out and carry elsewhere.

GREAT humidifier and I''ve had this one for several years and if I need another one, I''ll hope to get another one of these.

Here''s another hint. Don''t mount it on the wheels that come with and then put the entire unit on a towel or carpeting scrap. Also helps if you spill a bit of water when filling.

Do NOT forget the bacteriastat either, but be careful when using this additive, as always. And yes, it is normal for the wick itself to be about half dry (at the top) and half wet (at the bottom). The entire wick does NOT need to be saturated soaking wet for this to work as the "well" of water is only the few inches at the bottom...

I paid 113 USD for this unit. It was awkward to use, and felt cheaply made. It did a fine job humidifying the house but the humidistat was broken. Its humidity reading would not drop below 50%, when other humidistats in my home were indicating 30%. According to it, the humidity level was about 60% ! I have found a review elsewhere indicating the same problem. I returned it and bought a unit for 70 USD that works much better.

I followed the instructions by filling the tank, turned on high, and never let it run dry. By mid day 2 the wick was 3/4 dry. The unit on high was so loud that it can be heard on all 3 stories of my house. In their defense, this was my first humidifier. It''s going back tomorrow.

We''ve had one humidifier for 2 years and another for a year (put on on top floor and one on main floor). My only complaint is the sensor is too close to the unit so reads higher than it really is. We wrapped something around the sensor to keep it running. Works nicely and the sound level is perfect for us.

Braun Cafehouse KF520 Coffee Maker Machine

Braun Cafehouse KF520 Coffee Maker MachineWe have had this coffee maker for several years, not sure about the voltage (we live in the US). The filter system makes really good tasting coffee at a fairly fast rate. I''ve tried other coffee makers as ours is starting to look a little worn, we haven''t found anything yet that comes close.

I bought this coffee maker for use in a 220 volt country (Germany and again in Africa) it was great! ) I love Braun products, You MUST note the wording NOT FOR USE IN AMERICA clearly stated. It comes with a different plug and voltage usage for overseas use.

I ordered this for my parents when my dad was in the hopital.I was under a lot of stress as he had a heart attack. Apparently I did not see it was not for use in U.S.A.When I tried to return it, Sam the rep I was trying to work with was not helpful. He also kept referring to me as Mr. when I was Clearly femaleCaren . He was aggravating and wanted to charge a re-stocking fee on top of me sending it back to get an American ready coffee maker. By then I would have paid for it twice.

I choose to get another coffee maker from a more reputable company. DON''T do business here . They aren''t helpful

I buy off Amazon often ,but this is the first bad experience I''ve had in years

Kalorik Aqua Line Cordless 60-Oz. Kettle Save 30% Off

Kalorik Aqua Line Cordless 60-Oz. Kettle, Silver/ClearThe product was not nearly as nice as the Breville SK500XL Ikon Stainless-Steel Electric Kettle we bought when this one suddenly stopped working after six months.

First of all, if you showed me this kettle and asked me what it was made of, my first reaction would be "shiny metal-look plastic."

Second of all, after it completely conked out after only six months of moderate use, the seller, PRESENTS FOR US, completely ignored all my communications trying to get the product replaced.

Third of all, I emailed Kalorik no less than four times in an attempt to take advantage of their alleged "one year warranty" and once again, received absolutely zero response.

At the end of the day, I would never purchase another product from PRESENTS FOR US nor would I buy anything from Kalorik. There are so many better options.

What we have here is just another made in China item from an unworthy manufacturer.

1) This "stainless steel / glass" kettle does contain small plastic parts on the inside below the water line.

2) While there is a plate on the inside at the bottom over the heating element, the plate seems to be made of an inferior material. It developed spots (looks like rust to me) after the first couple of uses.

3) There is a gap / seam around that plate on the inside at the bottom where water can collect and stay in invisible / inaccessible places.

4) These parts of the kettle are just about impossible to wipe down because of narrow height of the kettle and lid design.

5) Some water will always stay in the kettle no matter how you try to empty it because of lid / spout design.

6) Not made in USA

The kettle retains a 2nd star since it does boil water quickly and does seem solid. The design of the external base is pleasing. The toggle switch on the kettle itself is sexy.

It is, however, by no means "green," healthy or made by a trustworthy manufacturer. The chamber which contains the water is NOT made out of solid, stable non-reactive materials. At this very moment it is probably leaching chemicals including toxins from plastics, nickel, glues, or coatings into the water. I''m looking for a replacement...

Buy Kalorik Aqua Line Cordless 60-Oz. Kettle Now

I was looking for a kettle with no plastic-water contact. This one is

aesthetically pleasing and uses only a little plastic. Unfortunately, mine

will not boil water because the sensor shuts off as soon as the water even

begins to get warm. Poor quality control! It''s going back of course.

The top is glass but contains various plastic parts inside. Also, there

is the ubiquitous plastic water level gizmo, which is really unneeded in

this design, since the top is so easy to open (push the thumb button).

If the manufacturer got rid of the water level thing and a little more

plastic inside, and also got their switches and sensors under control, it

could be a winner. As it is, don''t bother.

Broke after 3 months of moderate use.

Very plasticy made in China

Takes along time to boil.

Little plastic pieces inside the lid broke, lid doesnt come off, makes it very hard to clean.

I bought it because it looks good in the picture, it''s a peace of junk.

I''ve been using this kettle for a month now and only now read the reviews. I am really surprised by previous reviews. My kettle works just fine, it is easy to clean, the heating element becomes shiny and looks new after just one boiling with lemon juice. Very easy to maintain and it looks great.

I havn''t seen any rust or spots that cant be cleaned that I read about in previous reviews.

Reviewed after 2 years.

The flimsy plastic little piece of s*&%$t that holds the lid on the inside, fell off. Lid is gone. Whatcha gonna do with steaming pot and no lid?

Right, put some butter on it.

Otherwise, looked great till the end. Maybe someone can make a flower pot out of it.

Filtrete Under-Sink Advanced Water Filtration System (3US-PS01) Save 32% Off

Filtrete Under-Sink Advanced Water Filtration System
  • Removes parasitic cysts to provide healthier water.Parasitic cysts may or may not be in your water.
  • Provides ENHANCED reduction of chlorine taste & odor, sand, sediment, rust, and soil.
  • Installs in less than 30 minutes and offers 6-month filter life.
  • Maintains full water flow and requires no dedicated faucet head.

I am from the Northwest and was spoiled by the pure water up there. When I moved to Texas the tap water gave me headaches and stomach problems, so I started buying bottled water jugs (Ozarka Spring water). This solved the problem but is expensive (more than $1/gallon) and uses a lot of plastic. I bought the Filtrete system and installed it. The cost per gallon is about 1 cent, which is awesome. The quality is not quite as good as Ozarka Spring Water, but I feel better about not using so much plastic and importing someone else''s ground water that should probably stay in the ground there.

I will say the Filtrete installation may not be as easy as the instructions make it out to be. If you have standard stems (where the water comes out), it''s very easy and intuitive. But I had a flared stem and the compression fitting that comes with the system did not work. I spent an hour trying to modify the plastic bits before I realized I just needed to buy an adapter at the hardware store. $3 later I had a connector with a flare fitting on one side and the standard straight fitting on the other. The filtrete hose than connected in just a minute.

Be sure when you are tightening the nut for the compression fitting at the input hose (where the water comes out of the wall and goes into the first blue tubing for your filter) that you keep pushing the plastic tube into the fitting while you are tightening the fitting tightly. I used a wrench to tighten it well, but you could use pliers. This is important because if you don''t keep pushing it into the fitting or if you only hand-tighten the tube will get pushed out of the fitting when tightening, or will leak. So remember: hand-tighten the fitting that goes to the faucet (the output), but wrench tighten the fitting that comes from the wall (the input).

All in all, the quality of the water is good. There is a fishy smell to tap water in Houston and it deals with this nicely. The taste is not quite as good as the Ozarka spring water, but is definitely better than the tap water. It''s hard to beat ground water. But for the money, this is a very respectable unit.

It''s also convenient. The flow is labeled as 1.5 gpm, and I believe it. The flow rate is great where I am (fairly high pressure area). I could it use it for washing if I wanted to and I can certainly use it to fill a pot of water for cooking pasta. This is much more convenient than the Pur water filter which has a severely reduced flow when filtering. Also, I read many reviews where people said the Pur system was very flimsy and leaked easily. That''s primarily why I went with the under-the-sink Filtrete system. Also, the Filtrete is suggested by the National Science Foundation for water filtration, which I liked.

Replacement every 6 months is a deal as well since the Brita system requires constant filling and replacement every 2 months. And the filters are very reasonably priced considering the volume of water they can handle. As I said, about 1 penny per gallon for me.

I highly recommend this system. I only gave it 4 stars because I needed to buy a different compression fitting and because the flavor of the water is not absolutely perfect (it''s very good, but doesn''t beat ground water). The instructions should have mentioned what to do with a flared stem end, at the very least.

In Vegas our water is super-chlorinated. Forcing us to use a brita for cooking and coffee. I investigated other inline filters, but most of them required a separate tap installed -since we have a granite countertops, this seemed like an extreme fix. finally, here is a filter that simply sits in your cold water line -giving you filtered water to your existing cold water tap. It works great -the chlorine taste and smell is gone. It does slow down the cold water flow minimally. It is no big deal, and hardly noticeable. Installation was a snap. I would absolutely recommend it.

This filter is a snap to install and does a great job filtering water. If there''s any drawback at all, it filters the water TOO well. The filtered water tastes "soft," rather more like distilled water than drinking water. It''s a vast improvement over untreated Phoenix city tap water.

Want Filtrete Under-Sink Advanced Water Filtration System (3US-PS01) Discount?

Do you hate the taste of chlorinated water? Do you live in an apartment where it''s a big no-no to make any modifications? Do you hate the aesthetics, flow rate, and filter cost of Pur and other filters installed at the aerator? I''m a big water drinker, to the tune of at least a gallon daily. After moving to a new city, I grew to hate the taste of the public water supply. At the office, I became accustomed to the purity of a reverse osmosis system, and grew weary of the chlorinated water at home.

Enter the 3M Filtrete Advanced Under-Sink Water Filtration System. It took less than 20 minutes to install. Since the tubing to my faucet was already plastic, I was able to simplify the installation a bit from the instructions, discarding the compression fitting adapter and one of the included hoses and inserting the hose from the faucet directly into the push fitting filter output. After running the cold water for 5 minutes to initialize the filter, I filled a glass. From the first sip, I was hooked. I''m sure there are still plenty of harmful chemicals, like fluoride and the prescription medicine that gets into the water supply, but the taste is outstanding. I don''t have water from the office here to test with, but I am sure that in a back to back taste test, I wouldn''t be able to distinguish between RO-filtered water and water from my Filtrete system.

The flow rate is ever so slightly diminished. My aerator has a small leak I haven''t gotten around to fixing, that used to spray a stream of water right toward my face if I fully opened the tap. Now, it sprays closer to chest level. Very scientific study here, of course, but what I''m getting at is that you can trust 3M''s claim that it has a minimal impact on the flow rate. My favorite part of this system is the simplicity. No holes to drill in the stainless steel sink, no extra faucet cluttering up the counter area, and the absolute minimum number of potential points of leakage (three, including the point where the filter canister screws in). If the staff from your apartment''s management ever find themselves in your unit, they''ll never know. When you move, you can take your Filtrete with you, as the installation doesn''t require any modifications to the existing parts under your sink.

Are there better systems available? Yes, a multi-stage filtration and reverse-osmosis system would surely yield cleaner water. I''m still giving this 5 stars, as it provides all of the tangible benefits of a RO system costing 10 times as much, in that it provides water devoid of any taste or odor. It is also much more compact (no storage tank) and filter replacement costs are much lower.

We''ve been using this filter system for over two years with absolutely no leaks in the fittings and excellent water flow whether using the standard filter or the pro model. Would definitely recommend for any DIY''er, or even those first time installers.

The Perfect Steam Professional Commercial Garment Steamer

The Perfect Steam Professional Commercial Garment Steamer is Designed for Professional Cleaning Services & Heavy-Duty Home Users!WeLL, if you are reading this then I know you must be a part of that community, turned into a tribe, a cult of people looking high & low for that perfect steamer that first didn''t cost an ARM & A Leg & part of your rent that you could actually afford and that actually works.

Well, your search is over; THIS IS IT.

Now for those of you who think $99 is too much-well you DO HAVE to SPEND some money for a generally well-made, thought out design.

The rest of us know that a lot of upright garmet steamers can & do cost $150-$400! so, let me tell you why I like this particular steamer.

#1: It relatively easy to set up. Just read the instructions (2) pages & look at the little diagrams..had I''d heeded my OWN Advice & not been so pig headed; I would of realize that the second adjustable bar was actually within the first one & it telescoped out to Any desired height that you want.

#2: There is an DEFINITE ON Switch that''s located at the base that you must step on it like a vaccum cleaner lever to turn the machine on.

#3: The handle is simply activated by pressing the word ''STEAM''. You will then see these little hash marks indicating the levels of steam that you want.

#4: It has a large water well size (1/2 gallon milk) but it is SO EASY TO lift up and fill-you don''t need to drag the whole machine over.

#5: It can last for 3 WHOLE Hours!, I kid you not!

#6: And Steam it does! It''s not one of those pitiful hand held models that spit and spit and run out in 10 minutes (Joy Mangano) And it''s not a handheld that although it make chuck & ruck it really only has uncontrolled steam for the first 2 minutes before it dies off (Shark-Euro Pro household clean steamer) and you have to wait before it can build up enough steam to actually be able to use it again & by then it''s run out of water.

And it''s not like that other Shark-Euro Pro Steam Press that will kill your arm because it''s so heavy & spits.

#7:The thing that I like the most is the adjustable steam features: It only delivered steam when & where you''d wanted it.

I took the most crumpled ALL COTTON shirt & I was amazed at seeing how easily the wrinkles melted away & this steamer got hot enough to allow for creases to made easily (there''s even a creasing tool).

But what I LIKE THE MOST was putting the little cloth boot on the head, dialing down the steam & using it over those ''princess'' skirts. It was like butter. Right over those little mini colored plastic rhinestones, colored stones, woods, all sort of nifty embellishment. And I still had more than 1/2 of the water tank filled!

I did 4 skirts, 1 blouse, 1 pr. of linen pants! All, in one session! This machine has just paid for itself in the time & money it would of cost me going to the dry cleaners!

I know I must sound ''giddy'' but it''s so nice to have something that ACTUALLY WORKS!

And, Oh1 I forgot to tell you that it has clips at the top & Bottom to hold the garment snugly eliminating the need for a ''press board'' but be cautioned! Until you get the hang of it, you might to use a ovennglove on one hand because it can really steam your garments hot! (a litte ouch after the pants!)

***Alhough this machine says that is made for by HoMedics; some of the newer models might have a label on the top & side of the box that reads "Home Touch"... if you''d look at the very bottom of the box on it''s south in, you will find the HoMedics brand listed).

I would so much like to recommend this product, but I am rather compelled to advise against anyone purchasing this device. When it works, it works very well. The very first order, I received a machine that simply did not work. Having to repackage and return it was hassle enough, but I went ahead and ordered another. The second machine did work as promised, but the on/off switch has been wonky from day one. Now it seems that I will be returning this second machine as the on/off switch has given up the ghost altogether. What a hassle! It is too bad, I could definitely chalk up the first to dumb luck, but when a second purchase brings another set of problems, it is a bit too much.

***6-month update** October 2011

I''m still very satisfied with the steamer. All below is still true. It still produces a strong flow of steam. The only problem is that it spits water droplets when steaming. Not a problem per se for me, it dries, but I can see if you had to wear a shirt in public right after steaming, it would show wet spots. Another reviewer tried using the cloth cover; that sounds like a good idea. I think I need to use vinegar to clean it to see if it helps. I use reverse-osmosis water from our in-house system.

March 2011 (below)

We''ve used our Tobi steamer for 3 years, but needed an upgrade. I wanted not to drink from the water fountain, but from the fire hydrant (not literally ;). I looked and looked for something with the steam output Tim Taylor would be proud of. And, I found it with this garment steamer. The key words are: "pressurized steam." I just opened the box and used it for the first time. I love it. Compared to the Tobi this thing really melts the wrinkles-fast. It has many nice features.

The pluses:

1. steam, steam, steam (controlled steam output)

2. on/off steam button

3. solid base (not going to tip over)

4. nice-sized water tank

5. compartment for attachments

6. good height

7. automatic shut off I can''t tell you have many times we''ve left the Tobi on, now no worries.

Minuses (really minor):

1. didn''t care for the garment "hanger." But, it still has a hook to hang your clothes hanger on, when you''re done with the front, just flip it over to do the back.

2. some plastic parts

So far so good. I''ll try to add an update in 60 days.

This is a great steamer that does the job it''s supposed to do. I love that I''m able to turn the steam on and off on demand and change the level of "pressurized" steam that is used depending on the material. It comes with some handy tools...I use the creasing tool all the time on my cotton uniform pants and they look like I ironed them. The clips on the hanger attachment are a little weak in the gripping department so a very heavy pair of pants might slip out of the clothes pins...This is so minor compared to the wonderful job the steamer does. The hanger attachment comes off so you can use your own hanger if you want. The water is heated very quickly and you have steam within 1-2 minutes, so it''s very convenient to use even when you''re in a little bit of a rush. I am 5''11" so I sometimes hang longer items over the door to steam, but for the average height person the telescoping pole will work just fine. I am so happy I found this gem and have not had my iron out since I purchased this. I''ve recommended it to all my friends.

Want The Perfect Steam Professional Commercial Garment Steamer Discount?

I am an avid steamer as one gets instant results with the effort they put in. How many other things in life can one say that about? I loved this steamer when I first got it. It is incredibly well made with metal and strong plastic parts. It is so easy to assemble. And it generates a lot of steam. But it spit like crazy when I first got it. I did read the manual to make sure I did everything correctly, and I have been steaming for years, but it still spit constantly when I used it. I had done my research carefully on this steamer and knew many people liked it because it didn''t spit (a common problem with steamers). So I gave the steamer the benefit of the doubt and sent it back to Amazon and got a replacement.

And I fell in love with the replacement. It worked just as it should. The wrinkles fell away easily and with little effort. There was no spitting, no gasping, no wheezing the steamer continued to chug along as it should, just generating pure, unadulterated steam.

But within a few days, the steamer started spitting again. Not huge spitballs, but little spurts. However, that can ruin a silk shirt or a delicate garment. Nothing had changed on how I was steaming, the water I was using, the type of clothes I was steaming. I hadn''t changed my diet, the type of music I was listening to, or my Facebook page (just kidding, I don''t have a Facebook page). I lower the level of steam I am using to the minimum but it doesn''t stop spitting. Fast forward a few days later, and the steamer is now spitting at a more constant rate. So I put one of the cloth "hoods" that come with the steamer so the steam is not going directly on the clothes. Magically, there is enough steam coming through the hood to get the wrinkles out of my clothes but the hood is catching the extra spitballs. I go to take the cloth hood off and I notice it has marks all over it where the steam nozzles were. I remove it, and the steam head face plate has burn marks all over it as if it was handle having the cloth hood on it. But it''s an accessory that comes with the steamer the steamer can''t handle it''s own accessories?

So my love affair with my steamer ended. And it only has been two short weeks...

Essick Air H12-400 3-Speed Evaporative Console Humidifier

Essick Air H12-400 3-Speed Evaporative Console Humidifier, Oak BurlI like the design and operation of this humidifier. In fact, I have two of them. Ace Hardware gave me extra-fast delivery -no complaints with Ace. The machines humidify very efficiently, put out a lot of moisture, and (unlike many others) are reasonably easy to maintain. Normally it will run fine on low or medium fan settings. Forget about the high fan speed; it sounds like a helicopter taking off.

The first one I bought worked fine some of the time, but generally would not start up again after the humidistat controller automatically shut it off. Through much trial and error, I figured out that you have to center the wick precisely on its hanger rail that runs along the inside of the water chamber so the float aligns correctly. Great -problem solved, although poorly explained in the brief instruction sheet.

Then, at the beginning of the second winter dry season here on the high plains, the motor began to squeal, seize, and stop, especially at low speeds. On high, it would slowly start and then scream for a while and finally run -except it practically shook the unit apart and made it dance along the floor. After a day or so, it would no longer start at all. Clearly the bearings in the motor were shot.

I was about to junk it, when I thought to check the warranty. Sure enough, the warranty ran for a year. I had eight days left!!

I contacted Essick Air via email and a very nice customer service rep put me onto the person in charge of the warranty work. This second person sent form emails that were curt and blunt, but, in fairness, did address my problem. Getting the return papers could not be done via email, and took about two weeks to arrive by snail mail.

Alas, I would have to return the fan power head (they call it the "chassis") to them for repair. This, even though an authorized repair shop here in Denver is less than a half-mile from my condo.

I bought a large shipping box, packed the unit well, and lugged it on my back five blocks to UPS. $33.00 to send it to the factory (in Georgia, I think?), but they promised to reimburse me (and did).

About a month later, with no communication, the chassis arrives back here in my original packing, repaired with a new motor. However, I open the carton, take out the chassis, and it falls apart in my hands! Yup, it''s repaired, but not screwed back together. The screws are lying loose in the bottom of the box and all four screw holes are stripped. The electronics have fallen out and are dangling from their wires.

The prospect of sending it back yet again is now so daunting that I take it into my little work closet and actually reassemble it myself, more or less, and screw it together with larger screws. It was one of those two-hour deals where you wish you were four-handed with long, narrow, double-jointed fingers. I have no idea if all the inside pieces are back in their actual slots or not, but it seems to work OK for now. Pray it does not catch on fire some day.

I contacted Essick Air''s customer service rep just to tell them about the poor repair and got a very passionate apology and a promise to take it up with higher-ups and get back to me. I did not ask for it, but thought I might actually get a new "chassis" out of the deal. I''m not really comfortable with my backyard repair job.

Of course, after that I heard nothing ever again. The higher ups had obviously ducked the problem.

Maybe it''s the fact that I am a retired marketing executive and know better myself, but it amazes me that a national company with a famous brand name would not treat me a little better when fulfilling the terms of a warranty. The customer service person could not have been nicer, but after that the treatment was suspicious, curt, abrupt, and, well, unsophisticated.

The documents I was sent were full of warnings and self-protective disclaimers, but showed little concern for my broken product or my work returning it: if they found that I did not really have a warranty claim, I would have to pay for shipping both ways ($33.00 out, and, were I so foolish to want a broken fan unit, another $33.00 back). Or I could pay for repairs in advance.

All this "attitude" and they had not even looked at my problem yet. The unit as I described it to them was pretty clearly broken, it was obviously a burnt out motor bearing, it must have happened more than once. I felt strongly that they were trying to get me to give up on the warranty. The whole approach implied that I was nuts for even bothering them and probably trying to cheat them. All this for a $10 motor!

From my point of view, of course, it''s about a $150 item that ought to last longer than a year. Much longer.

Oh, yeah, that second one I bought? It arrived, brand new, with a squeak in the fan that even I can hear -and I''m partly deaf. Not quite loud enough to send back though, so we use it on a lower floor. Could never use it in the bedroom. Other than the squeak, it works great. Will it last a year? Stay tuned!

Very few humidifiers work as well as the Bemis. I would recommend it to everyone. There is one cautionary note: Be sure to check the tank and reservoir every day. Five gallons of water do not last very long,so pay attention. This way the owner will have good, clean humidity. The unit is easy to take apart and clean.

Mine too arrived with a cracked cabinet. The manufacturer''s packaging apparently allows the contents to shift enough that the heavy fan assembly can crack the flimsy cabinet. The crack is at the right rear corner and extends about eight inches from the top. It is a clean crack with the separated pieces fitting together without gaps. I used two inch transparent packing tape to seal it shut and the crack has nearly disappeared. I had initially decided to return the item but opted to keep it rather than hassle with return shipping. A replacement wick shipped separately would also have to be returned otherwise.

The item has few parts so assembly is straight forward enough. Do ensure that the wick is hooked to the cabinet along the wick''s top and that the foam float is in its place at the bottom of the cabinet. Another reviewer noted that a replacement filter did include the extended wick retainer to hold the float and rod assembly in place. The wick retainer may be easily removed from an old wick and installed on a replacement wick. I know of no easy way to remember to do so before discarding an old wick. Perhaps I should tape a note on the wick while I''m thinking of it.

Kinks in the filler hose restricted water flow to such a degree that I had to hold the assembly to the faucet when filling the bottle although I confess that reducing the water flow to a more moderate rate solved the problem. I do tend to be impatient at times. The bottle can rest solidly on the floor while filling this is a plus. The filled bottle weighs a bit over 20 pounds but user-friendly handles at top and bottom allow easy carrying. After thinking it was missing from the shipment, I spotted the bottle''s black cap at the bottom of the cabinet''s black interior. Also look for the black rubber gasket that helps seal the cap to the bottle. After inserting the filled bottle into the cabinet, it took about fifteen minutes to empty into the cabinet''s reservoir.

The initial emptying was accompanied by periodic gurgling noises as air bubbled up through the remaining water in the bottle. Two subsequent fillings confirmed that the gurgling noises will continue. The child in me finds these noises amusing and pleasant. Although I have no pets, it seems likely to me that pets may react to the noises in unpredictable ways and it might be wise to observe their reactions. A good sized dog could topple the humidifier without much difficulty so having a 5-gallon wet-dry vacuum at hand might be a precaution to consider.

Another reviewer commented that the bottle''s cap is replaceable should it fail to function because of mineral deposits. If my cap reaches that state, I will try soaking it in vinegar before spending money on a replacement. Seems worth a try anyway.

On its highest setting, the fan is noisy enough to mask quiet conversation, nearby jackhammers, and, possibly, World War III. The medium fan setting is also noisy and the lowest setting noticeable. I will soon move the unit away from my living room to a hallway near the other end of the apartment.

I used a Caliber III Digital Thermometer Hygrometer, also purchased through Amazon, to gauge the humidifier''s effectiveness. Before switching on the humidifier, the relative humidity level was below the gauge''s display limit. Within an hour of running the Essick Air H12-400 at high speed, the gauge indicated 27% humidity at 68.7° F in the living room. A bedroom at the other end of the apartment had reached 20% humidity at the same temperature by that time. The noisy box was certainly putting moisture into the air.

I live in South Dakota and have hot-water baseboard heat. The outside temperature has been between below 10° F since I first turned on the humidifier. After twelve hours of running mostly at the lowest fan setting, the unit has raised the humidity level to 40% in my apartment. I expect that level to climb as the carpeting, mattresses, and soft furniture have absorbed their fill of moisture and stabilize. It hadn''t occurred to me before this moment that bone dry furniture may be more likely to be set alight by an errant spark than furniture in a more humid environment. I have no evidence that this is so but it does help to justify the purchase in my mind.

So far I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend it with the caveats expressed above. I also recommend the Caliber III Digital Thermometer Hygrometer. I''ve also ordered, through Amazon, three inexpensive Western Digital Analog Hygrometers to place around the apartment to see how well the humidity is being distributed. I''m hopeful that having such information will help me determine the optimal location for the humidifier.

We needed a full-house humidifier, and this does the job nicely. It is easy to fill, and very quiet on the lower settings. When you crank it up, it does get noisier, but when it''s really dry it certainly works faster. We have it in the hall next to our bedroom, and it doesn''t bother us at all. One thing that may get a bit confusing is that this model does not have a 5 gallon basin. Rather, it has a 2.5 gallon basin and a 2.5 gallon removable tank. It comes with a hose that fits snugly over a faucet which I love because I can stand the tank on the floor, feed the hose into it, and fill it hands-free. Nice.

I bought this humidifier to combat the low humidity of NorthEastern Winters. My house is 2,400 Sqr Ft and this unit is stretched to keep the humidity above 40%. The highest speed is quite noisy and can only be used at night or when we are away. I recommend it but only for smaller homes.

I can''t ding the product for my water supply. I have hard water, and my 10-gallon humidifier gets this water. It''s not worth trying to use my kitchen water purifier to get soft water.

Anyway, this product works as described. I always buy them in bulk, as I don''t know when the filters gets that musty smell and have to be replaced. Again, not the fault of the product just don''t use them with hard water.

Waring PJE401 Juice Extractor, Quite White and Stainless Steel Save 50% Off

Waring PJE401 Juice Extractor, Quite White and Stainless SteelI bought this machine for its power and brand-name quality. It is powerfull indeed and is sturdy in construction. With its centrifugal approach to extracting juices, the machine really gets the juice out until the last drop. I really liked it until I tried putting watermelon in it: the machine grinded the juice shreder plate inside. No more quality and effortless juicing after that. Had the machine replaced thinking it was just the particular unit I had purchased, but it happened again. So, I was left with having to purchase a replacement plate from the manufacturer. This third time I tried grapes, and whamo!...for the third time the machine ruined its plate. At $40.00 a piece it is no joke having to replace the plate a couple of times, plus it is not a good feeling when you don''t know how the machine will react when certain fruits are juiced. After these three incidents, I only use it to extract juices from carrots, apples, and celery...no more grapes or watermelon...in all the machine will do a good job so long it does not encounter a seed in the fruit, else say bye-bye to the plate.

I have used this product for about 2 years now. In terms of quality you are getting your money''s worth. It is a solid industrial device that is not likely to have mechanical or structural problems during an owner''s lifetime.

In terms of use, it is pretty good. Because of the straining action it uses you get significantly more juice per vegetable than any other machine. The only issue I have is with cleanup. It''s not bad per se but you do need the filters to save you 80% of the cleanup without them. Even with the filters though it is damn tricky to get all the fibrous leftovers out of the metal spinner. There is just no simple physical way to get pulp out given the design of the spinner. Having said that we''re talking a minute or two of running this thing under a faucet tilting it back and forth. If they can solve this I''ll give them 5 stars.

Finally it looks good. I just wish they would bring back the blue model that my ex took!

I''m very happy with the Waring juicer. One reviewer had problems with seeds so I''m careful to remove the seeds from everything that I juice. Other than that, the product works great and is easy to clean. About a dozen optional paper filters are included with the product and they do a great job and are pretty cheap (less than $10 for 200. 5 cents per filter. They are available by mail order and are probably available in large cities). Once you plug the unit in and turn this baby in, the motor quickly revs up to a hum and you simply put the fruit/vegetable in the hole and push down with the plunger. If you''ve never juiced before, buy more fruit/vegetable than you would think that you''d need. Engine takes a while to slow to a stop is my biggest gripe, but I just use the time to let the unit squeeze every last drop out.

I''ve joined the juicer owner cult!

This is a super nice, extremely well-built machine. I would highly recommend it.

I have juiced carrots and apples so far. I see in the other reviews that some people had trouble with vibration but I have not had any trouble at all. I put the carrots in with a hard, uneven motion like the book says, and it seems to work just fine for me.

You do get a slightly higher yield from this machine that from other juicers. But it is not a big difference just very slight.

Everything about this machine says well built. It is sturdy and seems like it will last a long time.

I guess my only complaint would be that you have to buy the citrus attachment at an additional cost and it is a sizable cost. Most other juicers can handle citrus without any extra purchases.

Have been drinking vegetables for maybe 15 years. Started with a cheap machine. It broke right away. Spent over $200 on a very good quality masticating machine. That thing will outlast me. But I found it prohibitively difficult to clean. It made the whole process so laborious that I never used it. So finally I decided to find a good machine that was easy to clean. Let me tell you, this is it. All parts that touch vegetables are stainless steel so they do not stain. The machine really impresses with its build quality. The juice is simply delicious. I now consume many more vegetables per day than would be practical to eat and I feel great. And clean up is rediculously fast and easy. If you use the filter papers [maybe 20 come with it--order more immediately and use them], you don''t scrub and the whole thing is back in place in maybe a minute and a half. Overall I have the idea this machine will last for many, many years. Bravo, Waring, you definitely got this one right!

Rubbermaid 1M20 Reveal Mop Dry Dusting Cleaning Pad Save 27% Off

Rubbermaid 1M20 Reveal Mop Dry Dusting Cleaning PadYes. It''s true. I have had this mop for over a week, I use it at least twice a day, and I still smile when I use it. This mop is the most incredible thing to clean floors! I have theRubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop Kit, FG1M1600GRYRD and this review might as well be for both products, as they are equally amazing.

I have a house will all wood floors including kitchen, both bathrooms, and all the bedrooms. We also have a flagstone patio that has loads of sand. Sand and wood floors are not friends. At least twice a day, I use the dry mop head. I used the Swiffer Wet Jet before buying this mop, and the Reveal is much more heavy-duty. No flexing of the pole when you scrub with it. The mop head also pivots in all directions, and is incredibly thin. With both the dry and wet mop heads, I can get under the edges of my fridge, stove, sofa, etc. It also pivots well enough to reach under my coffee table, and pedestal kitchen table, and sweep cleanly around the feet. The pivot is smooth and easy, and I can work quickly across larger areas of floor, swinging the mop around at each end and coming back for the next stroke.

The dry mop head is microfiber, and has those 2" loops all around the edges to catch flyaways. The microfiber does a magnificent job of picking things up. I''ve had to work to remove triscuits crumbs and a toothpick shard! When the mop starts pushing too much, I usually push the "chunks" into a pile in the corner, then quickly twist the mop back and forth to shake off the dirt. Then I use a whisk broom and dust pan to sweep up the pile. I can honestly say that after just using the dry mop, I walk barefooted across my floors and I do not feel any grit!! Try getting that clean with a bristle broom!!

Now for the spray-mop part. This kit comes with 3 microfiber wet-mop heads. The idea is that once the microfiber picks up enough debris, it can''t hold anymore. Rather than stop to rinse the head, you can just grab a clean one then toss them all in the wash. I HAVE NEVER USED ONE UP!!! Since I use the dry mop first, my wet mop is only barely dingy after moping my ENTIRE HOUSE!! Yes, all 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen and hall I never have to get a new wet mop head because 95% of the dirt was picked up by the dry mop. But, any dust that might have been left behind gets grabbed by the microfiber and my floors are shiny and grit free.

Also, the kit comes with 2 bottles to fill with your favorite floor cleaner. I use Murphey''s Wood Oil Soap, and my house smells clean and fresh all day. If I had linoleum or tile, I could fill the other bottle with regular floor cleaner, although I have read that Murphey''s is great for everything from wood, to vinyl, to counters and mirrors! There is no particular place on the bottle for a "label" so I just wrote on the front of the bottle with a sharpie. The bottles also have convenient lines on the side for how much water/cleaner to put in no measuring!

There are only a few cons to this product. For the dry mop head if you hit a wet spot, it tends to grab the floor and drag a bit. Just a function of the microfibers, I think. Also, when you rip off the dry mop head to shake it out, be sure you do it outside the dust will fly! For the mop itself, the trigger to dispense the floor cleaner tends to stick. When I squeeze it all the way, it doesn''t want to release to get another spray. A quick squeeze fixes it. A very small annoyance in my book.

In my opinion, this is the perfect mop. One tool for dry and wet, on-board cleaner, fantastic at picking up large and small pieces. I am telling all my friends with wood floors to steer clear of those disposable "easy" mops and go for this one!!

I shall describe this product in four words: Harry Potter Witch Magic. I ''swept'' my kitchen and dining room and then decided to go ahead and pass it over the living room as well. This little gem picked up everything on the floorfrom 8 pounds of pet hair to little pieces of cardboard to dust and random rubbish that was scattered on my floor, unbeknownst to me. I took the pad outside to shake out some of the stuff and a dust cloud resembling Hiroshima was released.

I''m now convinced that Rubbermaid is in bed with the Dharma Initiative. There can be no other explanation.

I loved Rubbermaid Reveal Wet Mop, so in order to save on disposal dry floor sheets, I decided to go for the Dry Mop. Some reviewers are correct in a way by saying "the mop moves the dust around", but not exactly. Dry Mop is not a vacuum cleaner after all; it attracts dust but not as good after cleaning 3 rooms; and of course cannot hold a bit big particles like bread crum and sand (but neither does dry floor sheets). We have two women with long hair in our home, and this mop DOES get hairs pretty good. Considering saving of 10+ dry floor sheets I used to use to clean entire house each time, this was still a good deal. One thing worth mention is it is hard to hand wash all the hair and dust, so if you don''t like to put dirty mop in washer, you may find it troublesome to hand wash the mop.

I hate cleaning floors, but it is a necessary evil. Who wants dirty floors? This mop is terrific! It picks up the dirt and hair with ease. Yes, it is not a vacuum but it collects the dirt and gets it in one place. I love the mop great for clean ups to keep your floors clean. I purchased the dry mop because I was purchasing the wet one.
