BestAir 1T-6 Humiditreat Extra Strength Humidifier Water Treatment 32 oz. Save 10% Off

BestAir 1T-6 Humiditreat Extra Strength Humidifier Water Treatment 32 oz.I live in the Las Vegas Desert with some of the worst water quality. My Vicks Humidifier is a must but the water causes the filer to build up with what is probably a colorful mixture of minerals. So far this is my analysis. It does seem to slow down the filter calcification that I used to scrape almost weekly. But that unnecessary pink dye makes this product to where you must handle it as if it were bleach. It stains everything including the machine its used in. I accidentally knocked the bottle over resulting in a hard time cleaning a difficult stain on my carpet and not much had spilled. Ill use this up but most likely will never buy it again because of the dye. Instead I''ll search for another product with the same active ingredients but clear in color. The spill was my fault 100% but I can''t imagine what''s in there that made the color settle so quickly.

Tried this for the first time and it does seem to help a lot. The water here is not terribly hard ,but the filter will calcify rather quickly in the winter. The use of this treatment has cut down the need to clean the filter with vinegar as often and extended the life of the filter.

The treatment solution is working great for taking care of the high lime and calcium that my water has, but the pink coloring in it stains things if splashed on, so just be careful when pouring in the humidifier.

The chlorine taste is gone and my last filter lasted almost 3 years and was still working....even though it is recommended to change the filter every 3 months. I don''t know what the chloramine levels are after 3 years but there is no chlorine smell and water still tastes clean.

Aprilaire / Generalaire 4040 Humidifier Solenoid Valve

Aprilaire / Generalaire 4040 Humidifier Solenoid ValveI''m an HVAC technician, and have replaced dozens of these. Remember to order an Aprilaire 4004 In-Line Strainer and the correct orifice for your humidifier model when you order this solenoid valve, because it doesn''t come with them. If you forget the orifice, don''t be surprised when water starts gushing out of the humidifier, because the orifice regulates the amount of water fed to it. The strainer goes in the long end of the solenoid fitting, and the orifice in the short end.

Aprilaire 4231 Yellow Orifice: Aprilaire models 400, 500, 550, 550A, 560, 568 & 600.

#4021 Aprilaire Red Orifice: Aprilaire models 112 & 224.

#4232 Aprilaire Blue Orifice: Aprilaire models 350, 360, 440, 700, 760, 760A & 768.

#4007 Aprilaire White Orifice: Aprilaire models 110 & 220.

About a week ago I noticed that when my furnace was off...my Aprilaire humidifier just kept running. Well, to be more specific, the water flow into the Aprilaire was remaining on. At first I feared the control system in the furnace was failing to send the "close valve" signal. But a bit of investigation uncovered the culprit: the solenoid valve was "leaking"! When the furnace was running, it dutifully sent an "open valve" signal, and the solenoid fired as usual, sending water to the Aprilaire. But when the furnace shut off (and/or the humidity set point had been reached), the signal to "close valve" was properly sent, but the solenoid did not fully close. The water supply decreased, but there was significant leakage passed the seat of the valve, causing the water to run down the drain 24x7.

Option 1 was to call my furnace company and have them come replace it. My guestimate was $100-150 to make that happen. While they are normally worth every penny, in this case I struggled to justify spending that much for so simple a fix. So I started snooping on the web and found this replacement part here on Amazon.

I could not be HAPPIER! It took me all of about 10 minutes (and I am NOT a skilled plumber!) to swap out my old solenoid for this one, wire it up, and give it a try. It works PERFECTLY! Now, to be clear, you will need some tools. An adjustable wrench and screw driver are musts obviously, but what some people may overlook is you may need a copper tubing cutter. When I removed the old one, the old copper fitting would not fit properly in the new solenoid, so I had to cut it off and installed the new fitting that came with this valve. Other than that, installation was a breeze!

Let me clarify a few items that I saw mentioned in other reviews:

First, this solenoid DOES ALREADY have a strainer on the inlet! Do not waste your money buying a new one, as recommended in other reviews and as shown in the "bundle" in the ordering area on Amazon. The filter is built in, and in fact if you bought another, you would be unable to make it fit.

Second, this solenoid DID FIT in the exact mounting holes that the old one used. Maybe I was just lucky, but I saw others say theirs did not fit. Admittedly the tubing routing had to be shifted a bit (this solenoid is not the exact same size as the old one), but the mounting holes lined up perfectly.

Finally, YES you must use a yellow orifice (or whatever color is right for your Aprilaire) to restrict flow on the outlet... BUT before you buy one, take out your old solenoid and see if you ALREADY have one that is in good shape! I wasted a few bucks on a new yellow orifice when in fact the old one was perfectly fine and went right back into service with the new solenoid.

It remains to be seen how long this solenoid will last, but I am VERY happy with this one so far. With about 10 minutes of work I saved myself probably $100 in repair fees and now my water is not running down the drain 24x7!

This company does not ship what is pictured. They ship a cheaper imitation part from China. It will work but does not fit like the original. They should be ashamed of themseves for misleading people with what is described and pictured. I went with this company for all the good reviews and thought that I would get what was pictured to avoid the cheaper imitations. I will complain to Amazon but at least the part does work for now or at least the last 15 minutes as I just installed. I also gave them a 1 star for misrepresentation.

The HVAC company did a winter tuneup on our furance. They mentioned our Aprilaire 550 humidifer wasn''t working and quoted $230 to repair it (including a new solonoid). I bought this solenoid and a maintence kit (pad, hose, etc.) on Amazon all for $70 including shipping. Simple 30 minute install and the humidifer is working like new again. You can''t go wrong with this product if you have an Aprilaire 550.

I have a history of a recurring problem of the valve malfunctioning every year. The valve manufacturer is some outfit in Wisconsin and they charged almost $100. Sure enough, the valve failed again in one year. So this is the 3rd I have replaced. I will see if it lasts. One thing I notice is that this is heavier and a bit larger than the OEM valve. It is quieter and has a more solid feel to it. It fit the mounting fine on my Aprilair 440, no problems there. They do not give you a new in-line screen or a flow-reduction fitting, but all I did was turn the tap-in valve from my water source lower and that controls the amount of water flowing into the humidifier, so who needs them and why pay another $10? Works great. Its been 3 weeks and so far working fine. I''m hoping...

I did purchase this from Amazon.

UPDATE: This is my second heating season (2013) and this valve is still going strong, no problems with the valve or humidifier. As I said above, this valve is built much heavier that the original factory model. I am very pleased.

Farberware FSU236 36-Cup Coffee Urn

Farberware FSU236 36-Cup Coffee UrnFarberware FSU236 Stainless-Steel 36-Cup Coffee Urn

I purchased this urn for a party I was hosting a few weeks ago. I was totaling surprised at the quality for the price I paid . It is very elegant looking and could be used for any type of function, either casual or formal. I don''t like ordering on line because sometimes the item isn''t want it looks like, but this wasn''t the case.

This style of Farberware urn has been around for quite some time. I wanted one for use when my regular pot didn''t hold enough. This urn will pick up right where a 12-cup home pot leaves off; don''t be misled by the total capacity as it will happily make much less. Unlike the other urns I''ve seen, this one doesn''t look like a refugee from a diner. It is attractive enough to appear on anyone''s buffet table. Unlike many other urns, it is all stainless. I''ve been reading about aluminum leaching from aluminum pots into coffee; not a worry with this one. There is a very large domed lid, as can be seen, and the equally large coffee basket resides underneath. It works like any other percolator; fill with water to the level desired, put the appropriate amount of ground coffee in the basket, and let it do its work. Farberware has always advertised its speed, and certainly this one brews at a cup-a-minute or faster. The coffee made is typically percolator coffee--strong and black, which is the way I like it. This urn will certainly keep the coffee piping hot, but doesn''t seem to leave that burned odor and flavor that so many urns do in commercial establishments. Of course, I haven''t kept coffee for umpteen hours in it, either. These large urns are very easy to clean, as they are of such a large diameter.

I had a MirroMatic urn before this Farberware; I definitely got the burned odor/flavor in that one. I think it had to burn its element more and hotter because the walls of the urn were so thin and lost heat very quickly. This Farberware is much more substantial. Stand it next to a less expensive urn and you will see why it costs more. With this item, you indeed get what you pay for!

I purchased this coffee pot a few weeks ago for my daughter''s graduation party. Not only did it look great (loved the contemporary shape rather than the old upright style), the coffee was perfect, not bitter and stayed hot for hours, not minutes. Also the stout shape made it easier to clean and fill than the traditional style. You can make as little as 12 cups in this coffee urn with no problem..the markings are clear. This is a pricier coffee urn but if you really want to make a good impression and need everything to be perfect I highly recommend this model. Also it is 100% stainless, no cheap plastic parts if this is an issue. This model also comes in a larger size if you need more than 36 cups.

I will not purchase another Farberware product.

I have the FSU 236 urn, which has been used only at family gatherings. When last used, it switched to the warming mode prematurely so all we had was an urn full of tepid dark water. Things break, no big deal.

Well, it is a big deal because a replacement thermostat is not available for this unit. I could not get a hit when I googled the part number stamped on the thermostat and Farberware/Applica/Salton indicated it is not a "consumer replaceable item." Odd, since you can get a thermostat, heating element, warming element, and fuse link for older Farberware urns.

Fine customer no service, at least direct me to a repair shop that would have the part and can fix the urn. Nope.

Then please look in your UL file and tell me the approved thermostats. Nope, that information is "not available and cannot be supplied."

I could understand if this model was discontinued, but it is currently being sold new. No more Farberware for me!

On the bright side, at least I have a lovely pot to ... never mind.

Farberware Stainless Steel 36 cup coffee/water urn: I had originally purchased my first one of these about 30 years ago. I used it about once a week for 25 hours, as needed. It sprung a leak, and I called the company about the repair of this product. I learned that the Farberware company no longer fixes their products that breakdown after a year. So I donated it to the GoodWill Industries store, where they will fix it and resell it discounted. I purchased a new one from Amazon.com about two years ago. After using it for about three months, I noticed that the supposedly stainless steel washer or houser located on the bottom of the 36-cup pot, which connected to the outside spigot, had become corroded. It peeled away, with an interior colored metal showing through! I called up the Farberware company to let them know of this defect. After checking the numbers printed on the bottom underneath the urn, the company rep said that I could have a new urn sent to me, if I returned the urn before the year was up. However, they refused to send me a free mailing label and insisted that I return this item by UPS. UPS charged me over $23. to send it! (I also noticed printed on the bottom of the urn, "Made in China" and that was disappointing to see!) About six weeks later, I received a "reconditioned" 36-cup coffee/water urn, via UPS, from the Farberware co. I was disappointed that it wasn''t new, as was promised me, but I used it anyway as it was needed very much. After only one month, the supposedly stainless steel washer or houser located inside the bottom part of the urn, also peeled away and became corroded and the bottom part became rusty too. When dried out, I washed the insides with a wet, soft cloth which was rinsed with baking soda to remove the rust. It helped, but the defective washer could not be helped. With a wet cotton swab, I cleaned out the inside of the washer which connected to the spigot and found a great deal of rust inside of the hole! I had asked my doctor if there is any harm in drinking hot, rusty water, and she replied that for most people, there is no problem. But since I have a lot of allergies, she told me that drinking rusty water would not be good for my health! So now I just use the urn''s hot water for other purposes, other than for drinking. I am stuck with this urn! Why did I think only "my" urn had a peeling washer/houser? Obviously, it was cheaper to replace all of the manufactured stainless steel urns with washers that were of inferior quality ones! I sure miss the first urn I bought 30 years ago, which was made in the USA! [ASIN:B0000CFSGR Farberware FSU236 36-Cup Coffee Urn]

Essick Air 4D7 300 Whole-House Console-Style Evaporative Humidifier Save 5% Off

Essick Air 4D7 300 Whole-House Console-Style Evaporative Humidifier, Lith OakIt appears that the first guy to review this humidifier didn''t bother to read the directions. He said there is no way to tell if the unit needs to be refilled. That is completely incorrect. The digital readout will indicate the level of humidity in the air but if one of the bottles is empty an "F" displays on the left or right to tell you that the bottle on that side needs to be filled. This unit definitely does the job but it is quite flimsy and it is very noisy. I find it hard to justify the $180 price based on build quality but it does do the job.

This humidifier does an amazing job. It raises the humidity in our entire home(split level)to a comfortable level where the winter skin-crawling sensation stops and the static-electricity in our hair and clothes goes away. Bemis/Essick stands behind their product better than any company I''ve encountered. Our motor froze-up and they replaced it at no charge even though it was out of warranty. They had no legal obligation to do so, but did it anyway because they had received a bad bunch of motors. They apparently value their customers and reputation.

We didn''t buy this through Amazon, but I need to review it where I can. We have had to replace the power head three times dut to malfunctions, and the third time took about four months and only did we get it after complaining to the BBB!

Overall the unit does provide humidity and it is noisy on the high fan settings, but for this level of humididty to cover this volume what would you expect.

Problems with the third head now are that it doesn''t notify when the tanks are out, so we have to just check it daily, but I''m not going to go through the H*** I just went through to get a new head.

The intake filters are a joke as they restrict the air flow so much, a lot goes around the filter as it has no positive seal to the unit (really, it just sits on the side).

Now, the stoppers on the tanks wont seal properly so unless I carry the tanks upright I''ll dribble water all over the place (deal with Essick NO!). I''ll just have to make sure that if we turn off the unit to pull the tanks.

I seriously wish there was a unit that oculd put out this much humidity and not have the issues...

I agree with another review that said it is not worth the $180 price tag! This unit is very flimsy. And noisy? Gadz, if it''s in the same room with you, and set on the lowest fan speed, the noise from it will drive you up the wall! On the higher speeds...I think standing next to a moving freight train would not be so loud. The old "water wheel" humidifiers were much quiter, and did a much better job of getting humidity into the air. The "clean air" filter on the back of the unit is USELESS! There is a large gap between the filter and the back of the unit.

Just like water, and electricity, moving air will also take THE PATH OF LEAST RESISTANCE. In this case air is sucked more easily through the GAP than through the filter, rendering the filter useless! GREAT ENGINEERING...what were they thinking! I put the filter in the unit, traced it with a Sharpie marker, removed it and added foam weather stripping to the back of the unit to close off that gap.

UPDATE 1/21/2012. I found that the micro switch for the left tank was sticking so when the left bottle was empty the indictor to fill the bottle would not come on. This switch also has to work so that if both tanks go empty the unit will not run.

I called customer servise at Essick-Air, told the woman who answered what the problem was, and asked if they could just send me the switch and I would fix it myself. The way she talked to me was VERY RUDE! She told me I would have to return the entire unit to Amazon, and have them order me a replacement. I guess it is much better to inconvenience the buyer than it would be just to send out a 50 cent switch! Essick-Air is one company that I will never purchase from again, and I would not recomend their products to anyone!!

UPDATE 1/29/2012 Overall this humidifier does NOT do the job! It is used in an area of about 900 sq.ft. and it will NOT bring the humidity up to a comfortable level. It runs constantly. This unit has been in the same spot since I received it, and today I found my carpeting soaking wet!! It emptied the water all over the floor. This thing is a total piece of JUNK! Essick Air is poor engineering, poor quality, poor customer service, and way overpriced for the junk that it is.

Want Essick Air 4D7 300 Whole-House Console-Style Evaporative Humidifier Discount?

bought this item because of las vegas nv dry weather. the unit is supposed to humidify the whole home. with the blower on full speed to do that you would have to hide the unit in the garage and duct the air in because it is so loud. even at speed 1 (it has 9 speeds)it is louder than the floor stand fan i use to help it circulate the humidity. on occasion one refill bottle will empty and it doen''t switch over to the other bottle and completely dries out the wick and the humidity drops dramatically. the caps that release the water from the bottles to the wick have a tendency to leak when you refill them so you have to be quick when putting them back into the unit or you will get water dripping on anything in their path which includes the control panel. when working properly it does a good job, but boy the manufacture does need better quality control.

Cuisinart DGB-900BC Grind & Brew Thermal 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker Save 54% Off

Cuisinart DGB-900BC Grind & Brew Thermal 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Stainless/BlackI bought this coffeemaker after returning my Krups KM7000. Overall, I have been pleased with this model, save for a few quirks. The bottom line is that it makes OUTSTANDING, HOT coffee with great convenience in a design that appears very durable. I have NOT had any problems with getting the pieces together and I do not find it complicated on a day-to-day basis whatsoever.

PROS:

-Coffee is full-bodied and flavorful. I use the 4-cup setting with about 3 cups of water and the strength set to strong. This uses the aroma feature, and the coffee is perfect.

-Temperature is perfect, the hottest I''ve tasted from a model like this. The base WARMS THE THERMAL CARAFE when the machine goes on, then goes off when the brew is complete. This may theoretically be eliminating the effect of the cooling of hot coffee by a stone-cold carafe. On the other hand, the carafe is highly insulated and it may be doing nothing. The bottom line is that the temperature is perfect, the coffee is still hot even after adding cold milk. The coffee remains hot for quite a while in the thermal carafe.

-Design is quite niceit is self contained as opposed to other mill & brew models that have parts that swing around. The design feels very robust, there are no wimpy plastic bits. There is a piece that fits over the grind basket that has a gear which appears to rotate, likely to keep steam out of the grinder.

-It could not be easier to use on a daily basis all I do is put in THE RIGHT amount of water, put the cover on top of the brew basket, and press program (I have it programmed for the same time every day). After it brews and I pour the coffee, I swing out the basket, pour out the grinds & rinse the basket, rinse the carafe, and I''m ready to go.

-cleaning is simple; I notice others complain but I haven''t had any problems. See above for my daily routine; I''ve been using the brush weekly on the grind spout, it takes two minutes and is not messy.

-The brushed chrome looks great on the counter.

-3 year warranty is reassuring

CONS:

-The grind appears to be too coarse. Other models have a grind control to change the coarseness of the coffee, this one does not. This has improved a little after a few weeks of use, but not completely. Also, I''ve noticed that (through laws of physics) the coarsest part of the grind stays on top, then the finer grounds work their way to the bottom. This is probably wasting a bit of coffee, but once I worked out how much water to use it doesn''t affect the strength. Overall I have not noticed that I am going through coffee faster than before, so I think some of the "coffee wasting" reviews may be somewhat overstated. On first glance it does appear to use a lot of coffee when you are pouring out the grounds, but looking at how many bags I''m going through it doesn''t appear much different.

-The mechanism to pour coffee from the carafe is not perfect; it works ok when pouring out from a mostly full carafe, but to get the last cup or two from the bottom I have to take the top off. If I don''t it drips all over the counter. Taking the top off I can pour it without any mess.

-The water indicator level is on the right side near the back. If you are putting it against a wall on the left it will be fine, but on my counter it needs to be against a wall on the right, so if I need to look at the water level I need to pull the coffeemaker away from the wall. To get around this I have figured exactly how much water to put in from a measuring cup.

THE BOTTOM LINE (again):

The coffee is excellent, and HOT. The design is marvelous. On a day-to-day basis it is extremely easy to use and convenient. The grind is a bit too coarse, but I don''t seem to be going through coffee much faster than before, so this may be a little bit of an illusion. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO ADJUST THE STRENGTH OF YOUR COFFEE USING THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF WATER. I can strongly recommend this coffeemaker if you want hot, convenient, fresh-ground coffee every day. Enjoy!

I chose this grind and brew after reading all of the reviews for this and similar machines. Frankly, I am surprised by the negative comments. This is an easy to use machine once it is set up properly (the bean hopper takes a little of effort to snap in). The coffee tastes great and the parts are very easy to clean quickly. While the instruction book is not clear, Cuisinart was very helpful on the phone. The machine does not know how much water you put in, so if you set it to grind coffee for 6 cups and you have 8 cups of water in it, it will process all 8 cups of water. Other than this small quirk, the machine is a small wonder and I do not feel compelled to go out for coffee in the morning. The thermos carafe will keep the coffee quite warm for a few hours, even when the carafe is not warmed up with hot water. Wondering why it took me so long to go ahead and buy this machine. This is the best model; my neighbor has the first generation/second generation machine which is hard to clean and has a large footprint. Save your money and buy this model!

Now that I have had the machine for a month and a half: It requires some cleaning to get the fine grounds that compress and stop the grinder and ground coffee to get into the filter for brewing. I use a bamboo chopstick and a skewer to break up the compressed fine grounds that impede the machine from working properly. (Unplug the machine and put it over the sink area). I also use compressed air to blow out the fine ground particles. Still, this is a small maintenance to allow for great coffee in the AM.

Buy Cuisinart DGB-900BC Grind & Brew Thermal 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker Now

This unit wastes beans.

According to the user manual, if you fill the coffee bean hopper with 1/2 lb of coffee, you can expect "at least" two 12 cup brews. I thought this was a bit conservative but it was confirmed when I made the first pot of coffee. I set the machine for 12 cups and watched as almost half of the beans disappeared on the first pot.

I figure it uses almost 1/4 lb of beans to brew a full pot (12 cups of 5 oz coffee). This is about double what would be used if you followed the directions when using a manual grinder (one scoop of beans per cup using the scoop that comes with this coffee maker).

I think Cusinart kept the grind at very coarse level to ensure proper grind flow in the machine. To compensate, they increased the amount of coffee ground. Thus it uses about 4 oz of beans versus 2.5 oz of beans per 10-12 cup pot. It doesn''t sound like much but works out to 60% extra per pot.

I''ve owned the Cuisinart DGB-600BC Grind and Brew Coffeemaker and Melitta Mill & Brew Coffee Maker so this is my third unit brew and grind unit. The two previous units has manual bean fill and comparatively good control on the grind. This unit always grinds very very coarse.

Pro: Large Bean Hopper

Easy to clean

Fill level on side (DGB-600BC did not)

Gold filter basket included

3 Year Warranty

Simple operation (for a grind & brew machine)

Seems well constructed

Cons: Grind is always very course

Uses twice as much beans

Carafe pours slow and tends to drip

The coffee tastes OK its not as good as what you can get with a manual grind/brew but consistent with the other Mill & Brew machines I''ve had. It is well built and I think the 3 year warranty is key because our other Cuisinart grinder motor lasted about 18 months, but its going back because I make about 2 pots/day and this translates into a couple hundred dollars year. Going to try the Capresso 455 or 454.

Update

I''ve got the Capresso 454 and love it. It can grind from super fine up to coarse and makes a great cup of coffee.

This is a GREAT coffee maker. The primary objections in other reviews I saw were 1) Weak coffee I do not understand this as you can adjust both the strength of the brew as well as the quantity of beans ground (e.g. grind enough beans for 10 cups but only put in 8 cups of water). We have actually had to reduce the strength settings as the strong setting was too rich for my wife ; 2) hard to pour this is somewhat true as the opening on the carafe is very small (to preserve heat), but twisting the top open just slightly solves that problem; 3) coffee not hot enough it is not as hot as what you would get at a specialty coffee shop but it is still hot enough to make very good coffee. We always rinse the carafe and our cups with hot water before we start and that seems to help a lot; We do find that we need to microwave the coffee in the cup if it has been in the carafe for about an hour or more 4) difficult to program or set up it does require being put together properly and it is somewhat more complex than the traditional drip coffee maker, but the setup requires about 20 seconds to master. We leave the settings alone and just pour in water and add beans daily so once it is set up, it is a "no brainer". We have never had problems with grinds being spilled and I suspect that whoever did either had a defective unit, or did not put the basket into the unit properly. My wife forgot to put the filter basket into the unit one time -and it would not grind the beans until she did -great feature.

The combination of a burr grinder, 12-cup capacity, insulated pot (no hot plate to burn the coffee), adjustable coffee strength, and large bean reservoir with ability to specify the number of cups being brewed (no need to measure beans every time you brew) make this a really great coffeemaker.

If your expectations are for a super-hot cup of coffee then you will be disappointed. If you just want an easy-to-use coffee maker that allows you to adjust the coffee strength to your preference (including very strong), then this is a great unit.

Want Cuisinart DGB-900BC Grind & Brew Thermal 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker Discount?

We are very happy with this coffee maker. The things that are not good are that the thermal carafe pours out a very weird thin stream of coffee which takes to long to fill a cup and it is awkward to comepletly emtpy it. It does leave some grindings on the lid but that is not a total problem. The coffee is not as hot because it goes into the cool carafe and that cools it down.

So the point of a thermal carafe is now a drawback. I like my coffee hot so its a draw back for me. Other than that it all works well, stays clean, you do not have to clean the grinder compartment eveyr time you use it. The compartment does not get any steam it in it like the previous one did. We bought ours from Williams Sononma and are trying it out. I think we will keep it but we are still not 100% sure. It makes a good cup of coffee and the grinder works great and the extra beans it holds is a big plus.

This is the first dechlorination device I have ever tried and I absolutely loved it. Highly recommend. I have been using the Rainshow''r product for almost 10 years now, changing out the filter once a year--and I can tell when it is time to replace the cartridge, my curly hair starts to become more unruly! I even installed one at a boyfriend''s house because prolonged visits resulted in diminished manageability of my hair. Same for long vacations.

This really speaks to how damaging chlorine is to hair. It''s also nice to not be breathing in chlorine fumes during a shower!!

Highly recommend for people with chemical sensitives or naturally curly hair! You just won''t believe the difference--even my hairdresser could tell!!

This replaced a Sprite, but unlike that product, this one seems to do what it advertises. No more chlorine smell when I step into the shower (this and skin reactions to Chicago water convinced me to ditch the sprite). A noticeable difference in the way my skin looks and feels. Very easy to install compared to other brands. So far so good.

Weiman Glass Cook Top Cleaner, 10-Ounce BottlesA sample of this and other cleaning product were given to me with the purchase of my new Maytag cooktop stove. This one FAR outperformed the other product. Weiman''s cleaner has cleaned everything I have spilled or burned onto my cooktop with ease and made it look like new. I would and have recommnended this to anyone with a cooktop. It works wonderfully!

I just purchased new ceramic cartridges for my electric range and was having a very hard time cleaning them. Then I found this product and I am thrilled at the ease of cleaning the stove top. After several times of using my stove, I use this cleanser, and the stove looks as shiny and new as the day it was installed. I highly recommend this outstanding product!!!!!

After being dissatisfied with the cleaner sample included with my ceramic top range, I tried "Weiman Glass Cook Top Cleaner." While it was better than the cleaner I had been given...it is far from the best. If you already have this product, the best way to use it is to dab it on the spot to be cleaned and let it sit for about a minute before you start rubbing...and if that doesn''t work the first time...repeat.

A far superior product is "Bar Keepers Friend." It does not take nearly as much time or elbow grease as the other products I have tried AND it is a multipurpose cleaner that cleans my stainless steel pans that I thought were past redemption.

I do like "Weiman Cook Top Wipes" for a quick cleanup of minor spots, spills and grease.

I am so happy with Weiman''s Glass Cook Top Cleaner. I just moved into an apartment with a glass stop stove that had some grey stains around the burners that I thought were permanent marks. Today was the first day I cooked and I thought I''d ruined the stove because the grey marks were significantly worse and I couldn''t get rid of them with any of the cleaners I had on hand. After reading reviews here, I purchased a bottle of Weiman''s at Home Depot and now the stove looks brand new. I''m so glad to have found this product.

  • Countertop convenience with undercounter-like filtration results
  • Clean design
  • Portable
  • Heavy duty, long-reach chrome faucet
  • change the filter every 3 months or 500-Gallon depending on the hardness of your water

First, the review::

**My water tastes completely different, and I noticed on the first sip. It tastes like water, instead of water that''s been laced with some kind of weird aftertaste or partially steeped in a foreign substance. When I have a cup of tea, I find that even the tea tastes more crisp and simple. It''s not hampered with odd flavors from whatever was in my water. And, since I enjoy my tea a great deal, this is good news to me. :)

**Installation was really simple. I did it in less than five minutes while chatting with a friend on the phone with the phone pinned with my shoulder. Really low-effort. Just twisting a few pieces and using a little wrench dealie. No crouching under the sink or drilling holes. Not an intimidating process in the least.

**Water pressure is surprisingly strong. I can fill a pot without it taking all day.

**I have to move and travel frequently, and I know I can remove and re-install this in a snap, no matter where I have to go, without damage or interruption to the plumbing or water system of the next place. It''s also compact enough to be packed into a suitcase without sacrificing a lot of room or adding inconvenient weight.

**Overall, I''m impressed at how uncomplicated and unconfusing this setup is. I get filtered water quickly and can get on with my day. I think the price is also very fair, especially for the peace of mind I feel having filtered water and the better enjoyment of the taste in my drinks and cooking.

Second, the basics::

I really know very little about water filtration so I had a few questions before I bought this item. I think that, for those like me, who don''t know much about the process, it can be confusing trying to pick out a filter because what may be common knowledge to some people gets glossed over. Basic questions are sometimes not covered because it seems assumed that the potential customer should know them. In case there''s anyone who is feeling that way, I''m going to offer a few basic tidbits about my experience with this filter in case it might be of use. If you''re already comfortable with the basics of water filtration, this will be too simplistic for use, I''m sure, so never mind it.

The product is much like the photo, except that the photo doesn''t show how it connects to your water system, which I found confusing. Is it a tank? Would that mean it has a tiny capacity? Does it connect to the plumbing? Would I have to drill holes in the counter or sink?

Thankfully, it was a no to all of that.

What this unit is, is actually a fitting that goes onto the end of your faucet (not pictured) and a slender white tubing that connects from the fitting and into the tall, white unit, which houses a filter. When you turn on your water, water flows out of the tap as normal. (The fitting allows for this.) When you want filtered water, you pull a diverter pin on the fitting and the flow goes, instead, through the tubing, and into the filter, where it trickles down, is cleaned, and comes out the unit''s own spout. When you are done, turn off the water as normal on your faucet, or push the pin back in and water will return to flowing from your faucet head.

The filter unit does hold some water inside it after you''re done, but it''s not stored water meant for drinking. When you first turn on the water and divert it to the filter, wait a few seconds for the stagnant water to clear, then collect what you need. The filter doesn''t need time to build up and process or slowly drip through. You just turn on the water and it starts flowing. There''s no concern of capacity not meeting demand and the filtered water won''t ''run out''. It comes out of the filter as quickly as it would come out of your faucet''s tap.

As for the tubing, it''s not something you can really hide or cover, but apart from the potential aesthetic issue some people might have, there''s no physical inconvenience of tangling or twisting or anything. (but really, you''re already making the choice to put a mini white water tower on your counter, so do you care about aesthetics?) There''s just enough lead for you to let it run back behind your sink and put the unit off to the side. While that may be a negative for some, the benefit of having an on-top-of-counter unit is that you don''t have to do any tricky installations, I suppose. You just place the unit on your counter, twist off your faucet''s current cap, twist on the unit''s fitting, and you''re done.

If you''re looking for a full house system or some really hardcore equipment, I don''t think this is really what you''re looking for, but if you''re looking for inexpensive, quick to put in, easy use, for some good drinking and cooking water for you or your family, this has been a great purchase for me and I would recommend it for others.

Buy Tap Master tmjrf2 Tap Master Jr F2 Counter Top Water Filtration System (White) Now

I''ve only had this for 1 month, but I feel safe enough to give a 5 star review. The setup was easy as pie; no tools were needed at all, only two fingers. Screw off your faucet cap, screw on the filter director/regulator, and you''re done. It was actually easier than attaching my old Brita faucet filter. That thing was a pain in the neck that leaked constantly, and got dirty because it was made of plastic, etc. The Tap Master F2''s attachment doesn''t leak at all (which is saying something with my old, crusty faucet), and is made of metal/chrome, so it blends in and can easily be washed off.

The picture above is misleading; there is a white hose that goes from your faucet to the filter. It''s kind of stiff, so you may want to wind it around the filter and swing it back behind your sink knobs to keep it out of the way.

The water tastes SO great. I made iced tea in the fridge with this right after I bought it, and WOW, I know why tea always tasted kind of bitter to me now; because the water was bad. Tea tastes soo good now. I can''t stop drinking it. I love getting a cold glass of water. I make ice cubes with this too, and even those are nice. Fluoride free is the way to be!

I haven''t yet changed the filter on it, but when I do, I''ll update this review to tell how hard/easy that was too. Overall, money well spent!

Update 3-22-12: I just received my replacement filter and had a bit of difficulty getting the bottom to unscrew (probably because I waited so long to replace it, my own fault). You might have to whack the unit against the countertop a few times to break things up to get it to come loose. After that, you just twist off the bottom, lift out the old, drop in the new. The instructions say to clean it with bleach and let it air dry, but it was very clean inside mine so I took the lazy way out. If there was slime or a musty odor, I would have washed it, but there was zero slime and when I sniffed the inside it actually smelled good! Like, I-wanted-to-keep-breathing-it good. Definitely clean, which I was not expecting. Easy process!

Want Tap Master tmjrf2 Tap Master Jr F2 Counter Top Water Filtration System (White) Discount?

I love my new Tap Master F-2 Filtration System! I''ve been meaning to get a filtration system that would remove fluoride (and chlorine too) ever since I discovered to my dismay that my Brita filter actually prided itself of leaving a "healthy amount of fluoride" behind. Eeek!

But I didn''t really want to deal with the hassle of having to install an under-counter filter, or spend hundreds of dollars.

And then I found this one. For less than a hundred dollars, it was perfect for my needs, took just minutes to set up, and I was able to arrange the tubing so it wouldn''t get in the way. The filter just sits next to my sink and produces all the clean and great-tasting water I want.

So now I have finally gotten into the habit of drinking lots and lots of water.

Okay so I have had this filter for about a month. Here in Ok city we have really bad water with a whole lot of toxins and contaminates. I bought this filter for my family especially for my baby to have cleaner drinking water. It made the water have a funny taste so I bought TDS water quality tester and tested my tap water which read 190 which is bad, then I tested the water from the filter and I got the same reading 190! So I thought maybe something was wrong so I tested bottled water that my husband brought home from work and it test 0 which is what you want in regards to water purity. So I called the company and told them the situation and they told me not to worry about it because all a TDS meter test is the mineral content. That made no sense to sense you would think it would at least get some stuff out of the water if it''s minerals or not! So I called the makers of the TDS meter and they said the TDS meter reads the TOTAL total dissolved solids including contaminants and toxins so if the filter is working the reading should be significantly lower. I even tested the water from our shower head filter that is only supposed to get the chlorine out and and had a lower reading then I got from this filter and I bought the shower head filter from walmart for ten bucks! I am really hurt and almost in tears here. We are not rich and we bought this filter for 100 dollars plus a 30 dollar extra filter that does not seem to work at all and I have been giving this water to my family for over a month. No wonder our plants are even dying. You really cant trust anybody these days at all. We just moved here from Germany and in Germany we do not have this problem with contaminated water. Well so I have made about 5 phone calls today and I finally found a place that will test my water to see for sure if the filter is working at all. When I get the results I will write back. And no I don''t work for another company or I would of told you to buy something else. Just a plane ol'' military wife. I am really hurt over this. We just don''t have money to give away to crooks.

Extech PH100 ExStik Waterproof pH Meter Save 28% Off

Extech PH100 ExStik Waterproof pH Meter
  • Flat Surface pH electrode is waterproof and rugged enough to withstand harsh environments
  • LCD display shows pH from 0.00 to 14.00, temperature and bargraph of trends in acidity or alkalinity; device stores and recalls up to 15 labeled readings
  • RENEW feature that tells you when it''s time to replace your pH electrode
  • CAL feature that tells you when it''s time to recalibrate your meter
  • Includes meter, protective sensor cap, sample cup, 4 SR44 button batteries, and 1 48-inch (1.2m) neckstrap

I have been using this instrument for 4 years and found that for the most part it works okay, however at times it has been known to suddenly stop working (it doesn''t give a reading above 1 and/or has a strange flashing symbol in place of a number) for no apparent reason. In 4 years I''ve sent 2 units back to the manufacturer who sent replacements, but did not explain what was wrong or how to avoid future problems. I take good care of the instrument cleaning, calibrating and storing correctly. The unit stopped working again a couple of weeks ago and I have to assume it needs a new electrode, even though there was no ''RENEW'' signal (I''ve never actually seen the symbol the whole time I''ve used the meter). I do find I''m left guessing about what to do to make the meter work again if it packs up! Something else that bothers the heck out of me is that the electrode needs to be replaced fairly often (every 6 months using it on average 2 to 4 times per week) and $39+ each time hurts (and forget the refillable model too never worked again after it needed refilling).

Buy Extech PH100 ExStik Waterproof pH Meter Now

The ExStik pH100 does not work. If I had the time, I''d make a video review to go along with these words. Even after calibration, using ExTech''s own solutions, the pH100 fails to read pH levels anywhere near-accurate. It randomly reports its ''findings'', even when using the same sample being tested. The fault may be with the included pH electrode (and sealed solution), which you have no way of knowing the condition or age of, because it''s not packaged separately or appropriately for sensitive electronics. For the cost of this item, you''d expect some level of quality. Look elsewhere, because this product will disappoint both you and your wallet. But, if you still want to buy this piece of junk, I''ll mail you mine for just the cost of shipping. You''ll still be getting ripped off, but you won''t feel so bad as purchasing at full price.

The unit is accurate and works as advertised. Minor detail they DON''T mention. You really want to calibrate it for the most accurate readings. To do this you need PH 4 and PH 7 solutions which are NOT included. Luckily I have a friend in the chem business so I got some free. Otherwise you are stuck having to buy a bottle of each. The unit does work out of the box, comes with batteries (little watch style, so will be $$ to replace down the road, but hey the do give you batteries to start with) and does a decent job even without calibration.

Want Extech PH100 ExStik Waterproof pH Meter Discount?

It''s only marginally more expensive than the Hanna pH Checker I had, but worth at least twice as much. The auto calibration feature works great (put it in a buffer solution, press "Calibrate" and it automatically detects the buffer pH level and calibrates itself).

I bought this for our business. Usually when inspector comes, he complains of the old PH meter that we used and it had to be calibrated manually. So, he thought that it wasn''t accurate and we were trying to cheat on him. Honestly, many of our staffs/chefs don''t know how to adjust up to the point. This helps so much and it automatically adjust and calibrate to the most common PH 7 and PH4 (depending on the buffer solution). I strongly suggest to purchase this. The downside is the cost which is pretty much close to $90 and the not renewable part. The other model can renew the part but that model is more expensive than this. So, over all, it''s excellent and 4 stars item.

It never did much for the taste of my water and gave out a wee bit soon. Mind you, the building I live in is ancient and the pipes very suspect. I''ve gone back to refilling empty water bottles at a distilled (every which way) water machine in front of k-mart for 30 cents/gal. I add my own electrolytes as my whole goal is to stay properly hydrated which I will not be able to force myself to do with tap water.

I believe the filter was effective at removing the truly harmful things. It just really fails in the taste department. Probably due to the very small amount of carbon in the filter which never lasts long anyhow. I might drill a hole in the cartridge and replace it with some cheap aquarium-grade stuff. Might eke another month or 2 out of it that way. But after that, I will discontinue use entirely.

I purchased this shower head in August 2010, and it worked fine up until last week. The piece that attaches to the plumbing and holds up the shower head broke off, and it looks like it isn''t replaceable. That means I either need to hold the shower head in my hands the entire time I''m bathing or I need to deal with duct tape to keep it in place. I wish the cheap plastic part could be purchased separately, so I could make this product fully functional again. Like someone else said in an earlier review, cheap materials make a good product into a bad idea! Despite the fact the holder is broken, the shower head is still usable, just not completely so.

The showerhead works, however the long arm creates a problem with the angle of the showerhead. In my average size shower, the water was going over my head and hitting the rear wall. The only solution was to angle the unit to one side and turn the head down. It looked odd but worked for a while. The plastic clamp that holds the showerhead broke last week the product is less than 6 months old.

Have had this showerhead for several months now, and am quite pleased with it. It has a number of good variety settings, and it''s flexible steel hose is the perfect length for easy use.

Having a filtered showerhead really makes a good difference ... I noticed the difference right away in the smell and feel of our water. It definitely got rid of any chlorine odor we had noticed previously, and also makes the water feel "softer" on your skin. Truth be told I was not *as* blown away as I thought I''d be, but I certainly noticed and appreciated the difference immediately plus it does provide some peace of mind knowing that harmful chemicals aren''t penetrating your skin or at least less of them.

I have also been pleased with the length of efficiency of the filter it came with, as I said we''ve had it for several months now and it''s just starting to show signs that it needs to be changed.

The bad? You''re not going to get as good of water pressure with a filtered head as you would with an ordinary one. But all the ordinary ones also come with water-saving features that typically restrict the water flow in one way or another these days anyhow, so maybe the difference won''t be as noticeable to some. There are 2 or 3 settings on this showerhead that do make the water come out more pressurized though, so there is likely a setting on here that everyone will be able to like/live with as far as water pressure goes.

Also, the only other con is that the filter in this showerhead appears to not be reversible in other brands of filtered showerheads that actually look exactly like this one, you can turn the filter cartridge upside down, which lengthens the efficiency of the filter, almost doubling the amount of time you can use the cartridge before having to replace it. I have tried to do that with this one, but have been unsuccessful so far it appears only one end of the filter that it came with fits into the bottom of the showerhead, so turning it upside down in the showerhead is not an option.

That said, another great thing about this showerhead is there is NO leaking ... as I read about on reviews of other filtered showerheads. This one is solid as far as that goes, and although it could be more indestructible, it is not flimsy or bad quality. I especially like the quality and length of hose as I mentioned ... some hoses are made of plastic, this one is not. Also, the showerhead is easy to install / remove ... we''ve moved it around the bathrooms of our house a few times with no trouble.

Overall, I''d recommend, unless you find a really great deal on one with more water pressure.

This is a great product to use for softer skin and hair. Everyone in my family is sensitive to chlorine in the tap water resulting in itchy skin. Using a filtered shower head really helps with reducing dry, itchy skin and also results in softer skin and less tangled hair. Very easy to install, no tools. The filters last quite a while and are economical. We love it, this is our third of these shower heads that we have installed in different showers over the last 11 years.

G4 Ultra Filtration Hot/Cold Water Dispenser

G4 Ultra Filtration Hot/Cold Water DispenserThe cooler was delivered ontime and had a better feel to it than I thought it might. One of the connectors was bad and customer service was excellent, shipping a replacement right away. The quick connectors were easy to use. Hot and cold filtered water has been awesome for our staff and for the board meetings. The only negative was pretty easy to fix: it made a rattling sound when the compressor stopped, which was becoming pretty distracting during meetings. I found the issue was the spring for the cup holder. It was easy to remove the spring, with one screw on the bottom, then I wrapped the spring to keep it from hitting the sides it has been great. This filtering system does not need a drain but if you have a drain nearby you can drain the overfill cup right into it.

5-Stage Replacement Mineral Filter Cartridge for Zen Countertop & Water Cooler Water Filter Systems

For all you Zen Water System owners, there is apparently another vendor called Purenex selling similar item on this page. Ordered this item as along with a Zen countertop system as a replacement to have on hand down the road. When this filter arrived, the end cap was sideways in the packaging, and about half of the charcoal was out of the filter in the bag. Several of the other filter materials were only about 1/3 full inside the filter as well. Now, I know this could have just been a lemon, but I''m betting that is not the case. It was clear just looking at this filter that it was extremely cheaply made, and when compared to the one that came with the Zen, there''s no contest. I didn''t even try to fit it to the Zen, so I can''t speak to the fit issues others have had.

Here''s a link to the real one from Zen. It''s actually cheaper: just fine, I''m sure).

I bought my Zen water filter from Amazon and clicked on the link to order an extra 5-stage filter. Six months later when I go to change out the filter, I was greeted with a sub-par filter. Where to start? The first thing you will notice is the filtering minerals and rocks are very different from the original. Secondly, the thread pitch is all wrong. When you screw in the filter, it doesn''t thread or seal properly. A complete and total rip-off, don''t buy this product. I only gave it one star because you are forced to rate an item to submit a review.
