Mr. Coffee Electric Kettle 28-BVMCEK13

Mr. Coffee Electric Kettle 28-BVMCEK13, 17 L, BlackBought this for vacations...6 of us and not all hotels offer coffee makers. Like to make oatmeal for the kids, and a variety of hot beverages(not just a pot of coffee)...we use the folders single serve coffee bags for us, and take hot cocoa for the kids. PLUS, same size as my thermos for on the road travel so we can get things filled up fast before checking out. It''s light weight and easy to pack. Works great. Takes 8 minutes to heat up 1.7 L of cold tap water, then automatically shuts off. Love this product. Though I did buy this at a local store for $14.99...would buy it again!

I have had this kettle for a while and it worked well. Then, all of the sudden, the switch would not trigger the kettle to turn off. All of the water boiled out of it and it was still on. This is a dangerous aspect of the kettle and it has happened multiple times, once over night! Mr. Coffee needs to fix this issue.

Buy Mr. Coffee Electric Kettle 28-BVMCEK13 Now

Over the past 20 years my immediate relatives and I (three families) owned and have been using daily approx. 7 different electric kettles (all of which I selected), 6 of them made of plastic, all plastic models from KRUPS or brAun (sadly, currently, neither makes a model I like). This one from Mr. Coffee is the worst: the smell of plastic (or rubber, see below) is horrible. I even followed the manufacturer''s instructions and washed the inside of the kettle with a mild detergent, then I boiled fresh water at least 10 times (!), but the smell does not go away. What''s worse, the water boiled in this kettle also tastes of plastic (or rubber), even after I left the water boiled in this kettle out in a mug to cool down to room temperature overnight! Over years I found that practically none of the electric kettles I am familiar with are perfect, all have their own pros and cons, however, this is the first time I got such bad experience with an electric kettle! I am returning this product to the seller. I have to mention that the auto-shutoff system, the ergonomics and turn-on switch of this kettle are among the best I''ve seen, also, it chimes gently after auto-shutting off, however, these nice touches mean nothing when the smell of plastic (or rubber) is so strong. I have to admit that I am still surprised that the other 6 plastic electric kettles I''ve mentioned above did not smell (as far as I can tell), but it is always possible that the smell comes from the rubber ring isolating the heating element at the bottom of Mr. Coffee kettle, not from the plastic itself. None of the other 7 kettles mentioned have a heating element exposed directly. Finally, the smell I am referring to is very similar to how small in-room coffee machines (very) often smell in hotels, but in hotels this smell is usually alleviated by the smell of coffee one makes in these machines, but when you use them just to make hot water there is usually practically the same smell as the one from the Mr. Coffee kettle I am reviewing here! This might explain everything, as the target market for this product is likely to be similar.

Aprilaire # 80 Steam Canister for Model 800 Humidifier Save 42% Off

Aprilaire # 80 Steam Canister for Model 800 HumidifierI''ve had this unit for 2 winters and overall I have to say we like it. It does a decent job of keeping the humidity up in the house during the winter months. There are two drawbacks that I can see with the unit.

First, it''s expensive to run, essentially you''re boiling water to make steam with electricity. That takes a decent amount of electric. Here in Western Pennsylvania, electric rates are pretty average for the country so I am guessing you''re looking at $25 a month to run the unit.

Next, the canisters are ridiculously expensive. They run between $60 and $80 each. The first time I replaced one, I could help but feel ripped off when I saw a plastic bottle with basically a piece of metal and two wires. Aprilaire is careful to seal the canisters so you can''t open them up and clean them and use them over again. I have city water and 1 canister lasts me an entire winter, your mileage may vary.

A word of caution, trying to run the unit for an extended amount of time with a dirty canister would use a lot more electricity than the unit normally uses. The unit would have to heat the dirty elements in the canister and well as heating the water.

This year when the warning light came on the replace the canister, it was close to the end of the heating season so I just turned my unit off. I didn''t see any purpose in installing a fresh canister to let it sit dirty all summer and hope it was clean enough to use next winter.

If you have especially hard water, I would think twice about getting this unit until someone comes out with an aftermarket consider that fits.

If you''re just getting your unit installed, talk to the installer about hooking up 220 to the unit. This extra power gives better steam generation and in the long run could save you some money. If they have to run a whole bunch of wiring to get the 220 hooked up, it''s probably not worth it but if the power is near buy, I''d certainly consider it.

Depending on the quality of your water, expect to replace this once a winter. This is my third Whole house humidifier and this canister is the way to go! Just replace it and your done. You don''t want to have to clean the build up on "other" types, especially with hard water.

KRUPS XP2280 Espresso Machine and Coffee Maker Save 25% Off

KRUPS XP2280 Espresso Machine and Coffee Maker Combination with KRUPS Precise Tamp Technology and Stainless Steel Housing, SilverI was searching for a budget minded machine in the $350 price range that would be a combination espresso/coffee maker and stumbled upon the XP2280. mind you, I am a novice machine purchaser but avid coffee lover. I liked the overall appearance of the XP2280 and simplicity of the design and controls. I searched the internet for a review and alas there were none. I took a chance and bought it and am very satisfied thus far. It makes a very good cup of coffee with #4 cone filters, although a gold tone should be and was not included in the purchase. I also programmed it to start brewing before I wake up, VERY NICE. I would have been more satisfied with an extra two cups of coffee, my previous coffee maker being a 12 cup, but the coffee it does make is great tasting. The espresso side is literally idiot proof with the built in tamper system and makes a fine one or two serving with either scoops or the option of ESE pods (44mm Dia. 7g size). I used the Illy dark roast and it made two espresso servings with the right amount of foam, coloration, aroma, and taste that you would find in many popular "indie" coffee shops. I used the steam function for foaming milk for a cappuccino and was very satisfied with the outcome. It was quieter than other machines for the sole purpose of making espresso/ cappuccino while still making a full 15 bars of pressure. The unit is easy to clean and care for and will be a fine addition to your counter-top.

The reason for 4 stars and not 5

1. lack of gold tone filter, it should be included for the price I paid

2. 10 cup maker not 12, I drink alot of coffee

3. coffee making process can be heard from a few rooms away, not loud, but louder than my previous machine

4. no pressure indicator for espresso maker

It is so rare that I take the time to write a review but I feel I must to prevent others from buying this machine and with the hope that the former excellent manufacturer sees how disappointed I am with this product. I am not a novice espresso maker and in fact had an older model Krups combo coffee / espresso machine for more than 10-years previous to this. That machine was so good, brewed perfect coffee, espresso and froth milk without a problem or touchy process.

Let me start by saying what I love about this machine THE LOOKS (lipstick on a pig???), the little compartment for the coffee spoon and the release button for used espresso grounds. These items do not have a thing to do with brewing or making a good coffee drink.

The machine I have does not make very hot coffee, it''s very warm but not super hot. As for the espresso and frothing capability they just don''t work according to the VERY fragmented instructions. There are so many references to figures 1.... and you have to keep going back and forth. The espresso does not brew after waiting for the light to turn solid and simply pushing 1 or two cup selection. I often have to push 3 or more times and it still doesn''t work. Then I start the "warming" process, etc. all over again.

As for the "froth" it simply doesn''t work everytime or well and worse of all it pushes water into the milk. Instead of froth it makes barely luke warm water filled milk. This machine generally sucks (a word I dislike and rarely use).

I am so disappointed with this machine and for the money it''s really bad. I want to know when we started to think that spending $300.00 on a coffee maker was cheap. Why on earth is it necessary to spend $700.00 on a coffee maker? This product is not worth $40.00, let alone $300.00.

Don''t buy it. I promise it''s not worth any amount of money. Too bad because it looks great!

Buy KRUPS XP2280 Espresso Machine and Coffee Maker Now

I received this item as a Christmas gift. It looks beautiful on my counter top and for the first month it worked flawlessly. Other reviews are accurate concerning confusing instructions but once you figure out how it works, it works well.

The biggest issue is the frothing nozzle, MS-622874, broke within the first month. The internal assembly is plastic with a metal sheath. After my machine wouldn''t froth milk the way it used to, I opened it up to clean it to notice that the threaded plastic assembly broke. This must be due to the high heat temperatures that can occur in the steaming process. When I try to purchase a replacement (ranges from $11 to 20 online) I cannot find one in stock ANYWHERE! This is a key part that works on several of Krups'' cappuccino machines and its lack of availability (including from he Krups store itself) leads me to believe this is a very widespread problem!

The unit did come with an alternative device that attaches and still ''works'' but it operates differently than the primary nozzle (it draws milk through a nozzle from a tube). This method produces lattes and cappuccinos that are nowhere near hot enough and not as good as the original part. It also tends to spit milk all over the place which is annoying. That said, I am glad it came with this back-up piece because otherwise I would be totally out of luck in the froth department. It would have also lead to a 1 star rating.

This was a great gift and I love it but I am bummed that this key part was so poorly engineered. It is even more frustrating that I cannot find a replacement. Perhaps they are working on a re-engineered version and no longer making the crappy original?

I have only brewed drip coffee a couple of times and the results are fine.

UPDATE 4-27-12: This is my third update to this review. I had filed a warranty claim with Krups concerning the frothing part which broke within the first month. They contacted me and informed me that it was being re-designed and they would send me a new one. I noted this in a comment in March. Well today I received the new part from UPS. It installed easily (although there were no installation instructions only cleaning instructions) but after I figured out that the plastic fitting attached to the metal tube could be unscrewed with care and replaced with the new fitting and gasket I was good to go. Anyhow, the new design actually looks better. The inner structure, which caused the problem on the original part, is made from a much more solid piece that does not require you to unscrew anything along it in order to take it apart. That was the primary design flaw of the original part. You had a piece of plastic that was subject to heat and then would be subject to the twisting force of the screw assembly. The new design eliminates this completely and relies on a silicone seal to keep the metal housing in place.

The performance of the new steam nozzle is even improved over the old one! I made my first cappuccino and it was awesome. Clean up was a snap. Obviously I will have to see how it performs over a longer period of time but it appears that the primary issue with this machine has been addressed. Krups replaced the part for free and while it took some time, and they didn''t include instructions on how to replace and install it, it was intuitive enough to figure out. Raised the rating from 3 stars to 5 stars. Back in business!

I have been making Espresso/Coffee at home for too many years to count, and I have been a big fan of Krups over the years. But this is the worst Krups machine I''ve ever come across, Krups engineers really screwed up here. It makes great coffee on the coffee maker side, and it will make great espresso even with E.S.E. pods. There are two problems with this machine: 1. The foaming wand has too many cheap plastic parts for a $400 machine, and the foaming wand leaks water while you are making an espresso. In fact, after only a few uses, the plastic foaming steam wand cracked which caused it to lose pressure thereby preventing the proper foaming of the milk. 2. The portafilter is too small for two pods. You can do it, but not without struggling to attach the portafilter to the locking holder. There are better machines out there for the money, save yourself a lot of grief! Krups should do the right thing and offer a free simple one piece stainless steel screw-on replacement steam wand that is built to last.

While it worked it made coffee just fine. My husband had A LOT of difficulty making any quality espresso with this machine. Overall the machine was very hard to work (as newbie espresso makers). Big reason for the 2 stars? Espresso side of the machine broke after 3 years and the machine stopped working all together (no power/no nothing), just shy of 4 years. For $400? I don''t think so.

Kitchen Utility Brush

Kitchen Utility BrushI purchased these hoping to be able to use them to clean the inside of my stainless steel straws. They are slightly graduated wider in diameter from the non-bristled 1/8 inch wire at the tip (the tip is coated with plastic so there is no sharp metal wire) to the end of the 3 inch length of bristles.

While they do not work for my intended purpose, they have been useful in other cleaning situations. Would I buy them again? No. It wasn''t cost effective to send them back.

I bought these brushes specifically for the tiny one. I use that one to scrub out the top of my spill-proof travel mug. It works quite nicely to get in those crevices. I have also found that they work nicely on other kitchen implements that have narrow openings. I am happy with these and they seem to be fairly durable.

100 GPD Reverse Osmosis 6 Stage Permeate Pump & UV sterilizer

100 GPD Reverse Osmosis 6 Stage Permeate Pump & UV sterilizerGeneral construction notes: The filter housings are standard 10" with CLEAR caps on all 3 positions (not just the first = dirtiest position) they are screwed to a metal (remember that stuff?) housing to hold the unit together. The tank is a standard RO "bladder" style tank and the membrane is mounted above, horizontally along with the uv lamp and the refrigerator style taste finishing filter which is the last item the water goes to before the faucet / ice maker. I find that this build quality is superior to other RO systems on the market which use subsized filters resulting in faster filter changeouts and or mount the RO membrane vertically after only one filter (this RO membrane sees 3 filters and one pressure boost pump between it and city water which should make the membrane last longer)

at my home, My feedwater is measuring about 300 ppm with the HM Digital DL-1 Dual TDS Meter MTR-TDS-DM1-0-9990-4 With my old funky design RO system I got 200-210 ppm at the output faucet. That''s not alot of reduction for all the drain wastewater. As a point of comparison the "hard" water at my parents'' home is 100 ppm, so mine is 3 times worse than their "hard" water! Previous RO systems gave me about 40 ppm output water. This is a bit more complex as a 6 stage system. I chose it for a few reasons:

1 the clear housings on all 3 filters make it easy to see when any filter needs changing

2 the permeate pump recyles the output (drain) water to more quickly fill the tank, increases tank and membrane pressure, and uses no power.

3 it uses a UV lamp to kill bacteria in the output line if you ever took apart a filter system of any kind you''d like this feature!

4 the nonelectric pump cuts down the time to regenerate. Regeneration time to full pressure is about equal to time that the valve is open running water.

Nitpicks:

The UV lamp is ALWAYS on, making the water in that chamber hotter than the rest. I would replumb it so that the sterilization happens before the storage tank so as to avoid the small slug of hot water that sits all day/night surrounded by the lamp. The lamp is rated for 1gpm flow and 1 year life. I do not see it going any faster than 1gpm so it should be effective, just expect your first water to be warm.

The nonelectric pump is powered by the brine solution and is setup in a rotary manner while most RO systems trickle the brine out the pump squirts large volumes of brine as it pressurizes the storage tank on the other side. You can hear the clicking as each chamber is filled and drained as a result. I might possibly switch to an electric pump that cuts off at some given pressure which would give a continuous flow instead of a burst flow.

Neither of these are significant enough to impair the performance of the system just things to note about the design.

Likes:

This system comes with 3 clear standard size filter chambers, while most all others are sub sized (1/2 the size) white plastic. The result is that you can see how much "junk" from the city water supply is being trapped by the first filter and you can use standard filters not these downsized ones for smaller systems. (mine has a significant accumulation of specs of copper and green stuff after just 2 days / 12 gallons!) I think this will lead to much better filter changes at the right time.

The UV system is made of uv proof plastic with an end piece that lets you know the lamp is working. It''s a smart design, but re-lamping 1x/year means you must buy the same lamp assy which could be difficult. I may re-do the whole UV section in stainless steel when the time comes.

Both of these potential changes are easy since the hoses are standard 1/4" and use the press fit connectors. Just turn off the water and drain the tank first!

Summary -

Taking 300 ppm down to 15 ppm TDS (total disolved solids) is a huge change in the taste of the water. My old system was beginning to taste bad which is why I bought this unit. You can go to 7 stages and get Deionized water, used in the semiconductor industry, which is technically 0.00 TDS and acts as a solvent (i.e. you would not want to drink it but it will sure clean parts for ya.) At 15 ppm the water tastes good, and will not strip out your stomach lining like DI water would, so I advise against 7 stage deionized water systems. I found this system ideal and much better made than other RO units I have used. I expect a longer service life from the clear filterunits so I know when to change them.

I had a plumber install the unit and was very glad that I did because there were some leaks that I would not have known how to fix. He had to trim the ends of the tubing and reinsert them into the fittings because a few of the connections leaked. The ends of the tubing were not cleanly trimmed. Also, the fittings are plastic and you have to be really careful not to overtighten them -which would have been my inclination to fix the leaks. Overall, it is a good RO/UV system for a reasonable price.

I received the package promptly but as soon as i opened it I realized I was missing parts. I called the customer service and they were very polite and sent the missing bag of parts out right away. Good customer service! Once the unit was hooked up and the first tank of water drained we tried the water and were very happy. We normally get our water from our Cupboard natural foods store but it gets old toting the 5 gallon jugs around. The water tastes just like the water out of the oversized R.O. unit at the cupboard. All parts are made well and I especially like that all the housings are clear. Why shouldn''t you get to see the shape of the filter before removing/ contaminating them? The permeate pump does make some noise and the first half glass of water is a bit warm from sitting under the UV light, but other than that we are 100% happy with the purchase. They also label all the connections to make setup easy. Even the pets love it :p

Wellness Carafe Filters 3-Pack

Wellness Carafe Filters 3-PackExcellent filter that is capable of removing a variety of different impurities and heavy metals from your water leaving it with a softer texture and amazingly pure taste. I''ve been using these filters for about 3 years now in my carafes at home and at work. As a reviewer above noted, it does take a bit longer for the water to filter with this type of filter but that''s because it''s so thorough and is actually going through the most beneficial process of removing all the bad stuff. I specifically choose this system because it can remove pharmaceuticals and chemicals from tap water. We won''t drink any water unless it''s been run through this filter. You can really taste the difference!

Works really well. Water tastes great. You get what you pay for. Comment on the negative review of the water filtering slowly a fast filter may NOT filter as effectively as a slow one, so don''t let speed be your criteria. The saying, "Slow but sure" comes to mind. Make sure you use the Wellness carafe that goes with the filter. The carafe is blue which also a great color energetically for the water. This is much better than a Britta. I mark the date replaced with a permanent marker on the top of the filter to remind me when to change.

I realize that taste is of very low importance compared to water safety, but this is the first water I have ever tasted that has NO taste. No chemicals, no sodium, no aftertaste of a Culligan. The water is so GOOD. I used to hate drinking my 8 a day. Now I just love it. No need for lemon to mask the yucky taste of the citiy''s water filtration system, just pure pure water. Ok, that being said, I also really appreciate that I don''t have to worry about all the chemicals and contaminents etc, etc that the other reviewers remind us of. It gives me peace of mind to drink this water. Well worth the cost.

Contractor warned me that he was having issues with the Honeywell steam humidifier. Claimed I would be lucky if it lasted 3 years. Thinking I could live with 3 years, I had him install it. I really wanted a steam humidifier. Well, it last a little longer than 3 weeks. Contractor brought me a new one, and same thing. I am now in process of installing an Aprilaire which cost a few hundred more. Honeywell, you should pull this product from the market.

This is the worst purchase I have ever made. Neve has worked right. Have replace the entire unit and it still doesn''t work right. If you don''t have a good water source the boiling water will leave deposits from the boiloff. These deposits will cause the solenoid to malfunction and have to be replaced. I have done so several times. This is a hunk of junk.

I had no option but to buy this product. My new furnace was in such a tight space that they could not install a conventional humidifier unless it voided it''s warranty.

SOooo it''s Truesteam or nothing. Let me say that it humidifies better than any other humidifier but it is NOT a set it and forget it product. First, it has to be installed correctly (esp.the wiring). If you have the chops do it fine , but otherwise get an HVAC dealer to do it for you. Second, get a Honeywell Reverse Osmosis Filter System (about $200 & easy to install)to go with it. This will save you time and $$ down the line. I went 2yrs without one and the scaling and cleaning and replacement of the water sensor unit ($60) each year was a pain...and my softened water is not that bad. Third, an probably most important, get to know your troubleshooting manual (Honeywell has a video that''s pretty good as well [Google: Truesteam Tuneup]). If you don''t you will have endless service calls because the warning lights go on and the unit stops working 2-4 times a season and you have to diagnose the problem. The blinking warning light system will tell you 95% of the time what the issue is by the # of blinks. Since I''m now an expert it''s easy to get it going again.

Bottom line..I love the way it humidifies. Very even and efficient since my fan is on all the time. Better than Aprilaires I''ve owned. BUT.. you have to get to know the unit. If you don''t you WILL get frustrated. I don''t look forward to selling my house and explaining this to the new buyer.

UPDATE: I inquired about the APRILAIRE 800 Steam Humidifier (Hey..if it works better I''ll try it) and was told by their #1 dealer in the area that the Aprilaire rep has told them to stay away from the unit...too many unresolved problems. Translation: endless service calls. Like with Truesteam the fixes are probably not difficult but the average homeowner doesn''t want all the maintenance issues.

Replaced a reliable Aprilaire humidifier (had worked well for 20 years) when a new geothermal heatpump was installed. Have had only trouble with the Honeywell through two seasons. Will be going back to Aprilaire soon. First it leaked and didn''t humidify the house. Water all over the basement floor. When it comes time to clean it out (which MUST be done at least every year), the instructions are so bad that you are pretty much on your own. It''s impossibly difficult. First you have to push a button to flush it out -but they don''t tell you that you must push the button with a screwdriver or pencil, NOT your finger, or it won''t engage. Then you fight with various fittings (again, not well described) to disconnect the tank. When you attempt to reinstall the tank after cleaning, you find that the gasket around the tank has nothing to attach to -it just flops there and you can''t get the tank sealed. It''s NOT worth the money or the Honeywell brand name. Buy from somebody else.

This is total junk. I have had it for the past 3 years. It has been a constant source of problems. Leaks...cracks....replacement sensors........replacement solenoids....everything goes bad in it.

I have replaced many parts in it and it still malfunctions. The water valve eventually malfunctions due to deposits.....and I DO NOT have really hard water. It has a flush function. The boiling tank cracks [eventually] because ...hey Boiling water + plastic = disaster. I have had my basement flooded by this thing at least twice...stuck valve...it was so unpredictable that I installed a catch pan underneath it.

Water level sensors go bad because various plastic parts just crack...due to heat I presume.

STAY AWAY from this at all costs.

And I do replace the hard water in-line filter every year. Heck...I have tried replacing it twice a year too....no improvement.

Austin Air Healthmate Jr Replacement Filter

Austin Air Healthmate Jr Replacement Filter w/ Prefilter - Sandstone
  • Prefilter included for outside of main filter.
  • 6.5 lbs of solid activated carbon and zeolite for odor and gas removal.
  • Easy replacement of existing filter.
  • 30 sq. ft. true HEPA medical filter medium.

I bought the Austin Healthmate Jr. about 2 years ago for a dusty area and have been happy with it. The three things I like best about it are that you don''t have to buy filters very often because you can vacuum the outside of the filter and that it''s relatively quiet. The other thing is that it takes air in on all four sides and blows the filtered air out through the top area. It seems to do a good job of filtering the air. It''s more energy efficient than air purifiers I''ve used in the past and it has 3 speeds which is nice.

If you use it in really dusty conditions like mine, you can replace the pre-filter more often than the big filter. I''ve found this type of material that I could cut to fit at a local hardware store. You get a pre-filter with it. You have to take it apart to replace the pre-filter and filters, but it isn''t difficult. You can turn off the machine and vacuum it from the outside and that seems to help the filters last longer. Of course, you''ll want to use a vacuum cleaner with a hepa filter or you defeat the purpose. I replace mine about once a year, but I think the average person could go much longer.

The only reason I didn''t give it 5 stars is because I don''t really have any way of measuring how good of a job it really does, only that it seems to do a good job in terms of allergies, odors, etc. There are so many air filters out there and so many claims, that it''s hard to sort them out. But if I had to buy a filter for another room, I would probably buy this brand again.

I bought three Austin Air Healthmates almost a decade ago, to help deal with my many inhalant allergies. Two Jr models and one full sized one. I put the full sized one in the living room where I exercise and watch TV, one in the bedroom, and one in my home office. When I remodeled a garage for a home office, installing paneling, vinyl flooring, dropped ceiling, and more, I put the Healthmate Jr in the room while finishing construction was still underway. I never walked in and smelled the classic "plastic" smells that are quite common with new vinyl flooring, plastic coated paneling, or polystyrene ceiling tiles. I have seen my allergy symptoms decrease, especially when I stay indoors during peak pollen days. I also don''t have half the dust my friends have in their houses. I recommend the Healthmate for anyone with hay fever or allergies, and especially for those who work at home or for retired folks. The filters only have to be replaced every five years, and cost less than the cheap air filter machines with filters that have to be replaced monthly.

Doesn''t deal well with cigar smoke but works exceptionally well with standard household odors like cooking smells. Helpful with allergens too.

Camco 40043 TastePURE RV Water Filter with Flexible Hose Protector Save 30% Off

Camco 40043 TastePURE RV Water Filter with Flexible Hose Protector
  • Larger capacity RV water filter lasts an entire season
  • Greatly reduces bad taste, odors, chlorine and sediment in drinking water
  • 100 micron filter
  • High-flow carbon filter with KDF to help prevent bacteria growth
  • CSA low lead content certified and complies with California''s AB1953 and Vermont Act 193 Low Lead Laws

Have been using this system in RV past three years. Good filtration, relatively easy to install, initial price lower than other systems. Longevity appears to depend on quality of water supply, amount of water usage, and success in flushing the cartridge. For my wife and I, the cartridge water flow slows after about 40 days of actual use. Too bad the entire cartridge must be tossed at end of life. I wish the manufacturer would offer "cartridge only" as an option and reduce price since hose connection basically remains viable. This system may not be cost effective for full-timers.

I purchased two of the taste pure water filters; but not for use with an RV. I use one to fill my pool to keep rust out of it and the other to wash our cars to reduse the mineral deposit spots. I haven''t used it for the pool yet but the one for washing the cars works great. It makes the car care products work much better and my auto glass has never been cleaner and my wax as you dry product leave a better sheen than with unfiltered water.

I tested before and after with a water quality kit. Unfortunately, this only removed about 1/2 the chlorine, leaving a substantial amount.

This product saves me a ton of money with my home brewing projects. Chloromines and bacteria are the main reason I chose to use this product and the fact that I don''t have to purchase bottled water from the store. In about 3 batches of beer I''ve paid for this with what I would have to buy in the store. If you use regular tap water at home you should consider purchsing one of these. Your beer will have more beer flavors and less off flavors from your local water source.

KitchenAid 12-c. Pro Line Replacement Carafe Save 34% Off

KitchenAid 12-c. Pro Line Replacement Carafe with Interchangeable Lids. We''ve very much enjoyed our KitchenAid coffee maker but did finally break the carafe in the sink. When we reordered they had changed the cover to include a flip up lid on the spout...which causes the carafe to leak/dribble when we pour water into the maker or pour our coffee...we wish we''d saved the old lid. We were able to pop off the flip top for a open spout again...all is well I suppose KitchenAid was trying to improve things, but this is a case of leaving good enough alone

The replacement Carafe arrived in good order and was provided by Ace Hardware. They werem prompt with the delivery and asked if all was OK. They are a caring distributor.

I ordered a replacement carafe for our Pro Line Kitchen Aid coffee maker, which we have thoroughly enjoyed. The price of the replacement carafe was expensive, but we felt it was worth it given the excellent performance of the coffeemaker. This replacement carafe came in a box as if I were taking it off the shelf at Target, with no additional packing. Of oourse, it was broken. I called the company, who issued a credit immediately, and went to Target and bought a Mr. Cofffee carafe (as suggested by one of the previous reviewers) at half the price. This Mr. Coffee carafe has worked very well. Sort of glad that it worked out this way saved me some dollars!

So if I were reviewing the carafe on basic functionality, it gets the job done. It keeps all hot fluids contained and pours easily into mugs of various shapes and sizes. I purchased this as a replacement because my first carafe broke. This brings me to the flimsy part... my carafe broke while in my draining board. A glass (also in the draining board) was bumped and it fell on the carafe. The glass survived, the carafe did not. Granted, I do not expect my coffee carafe to survive a 3 foot fall to the ground, a good bump by my cast iron skillet, or nuclear winter for that matter, but it couldn''t stand up to a wimpy object... made of the same material, albeit more sturdily constructed.

Want KitchenAid 12-c. Pro Line Replacement Carafe Discount?

I bought this new carafe for my KitchenAid Pro Line Coffee Maker because the original carafe was in a buzillion pieces when the coffee maker arrived. There were tips online that coffee carafes from Mr. Coffee and others would work, but that''s not the way I operate, so I bought this new carafe on Amazon and found it to be a fine purchase. It feels somewhat fragile but I don''t know how true that is. It''s not heavy at all and is easy to fill and clean. It also comes with an orange lid for when you make decaf. All in all, it was a great product that looks sharp and I had no problems with the shipper or Amazon. Thanks!

Verilux CleanWave Sanitizing Light Wand Combo Pack NEW

Verilux CleanWave Sanitizing Light Wand Combo Pack NEWWe got these wands and wanted to test them out someway because it''s hard to see something work that is supposed to get rid of what you can''t see.

We read that the UV lights are supposed to kill mold, so we put the light right over some mold in the shower and left it there. This is a littlbe bit of mold that we''ve tried to get off for a long time.

We came back and scrubbed the mold the next day (forgot to do it the same day), and the mold came right off.

I heard New York is using UV light to sanitize water, and I know some pools are using it too. I''ve also seen a cool gadget for hikers that kills bacteria/viruses in drinking water using UV light. So, even though I really can''t "see" it working, I think it does help especially for computer keyboards, phones, etc.

As other reviewers have mentioned this can be a big pain in the tookus to use. I did spend the LONNNNNNNNNNG time going over my mattress with it and noticed a marked improvement in my asthma. I would not use this for hard surfaces tho. It''s perfectly safe and everything, but I have a life to lead. I''m glad to have it on hand so I can disinfect soft surfaces or things like that, but really if you have a family (which I don''t) and a sick or vulnerable person in it.... you probably have more to do than passing this wand verrrrrrrrrry slowly over everything you own.

I am really glad I got it for the bedding tho. My sinuses are much better for sure. When you sleep you are at your most vulnerable to your allergies and asthma. But make no mistake, you are going to be stood holding this thing over your bed for a WHILE.

I CAN BREATHE AGAIN!! NO JOKE!!

I reluctantly bought this thing as a last resort due to the issues and problems that I had with breathing horribly at my house to almost Asthmatic symptoms.

I could not understand how a very fit guy like me could not breathe or sleep right, even on my Tempurpedic bed when at home ( I had no problem breathing outside or at the gym!)

After reading mostly great reviews and some horrible 1 star reviews on Amazon, I took a chance and bought this thing with Both large Wand and portable wand.

I CAN CLEARLY TELL YOU, THIS THING WORKS!! Directions are to have the bulb close as possible to bed/carpet/kitchen/etc and NOT more than 1/2" above the surface to get maximum effect of cleaning... the longer you cover the area, slowly waving across, the better it works obviously.

The first thing I did was MY BED and Room''s Carpet (basically everything)

About a minute after, I can smell like a sanitized smell, as if I washed my blankets with bleach or something , THAT''S ALL THE DUSTMITES, FLEA EGGS, BACTERIA, AND H1N1 STUFF BEING DEAD!! What''s funny is that it doesn''t even look or seem like it''s working when you''re just ridiculously waving this wand across with this small bulb that''s supposed to magically kill bacteria.

The night that I slept after the treatment, I slept very well but shorter of 7hours, and actually woke up refreshed!

Before this I would sleep 9 or 10 hours still wake up groggy: I could only attribute this to my breathing in Dustmites, Bacteria, Flea Eggs, etc or I don''t know what throughout the whole night sleeping that had badly impacted my sleeping pattern, that I''ve had all this time prior to getting this thing.

Bare in mind, that I''ve read some kids get bloody noses from bad/unknown infestations. I just used to get the worst sleep and sometimes could not wake up properly. You want proof?? I just looked this up on Youtube under:

My Fox News 8 Deal or Dud?: Verilux CleanWave UV Wand

They basically confirmed my personal test findings.

MY TAKE on THE BAD REVIEWS HERE:

Unless some of the 1 star reviews here are coming from a wand with a broken UV-C bulb or from a cleaning product company''s trying to prevent the public to find out about this product or they basically have a personal maid''s cleaning their sheets and rooms on a daily basis or they basically live in a hospital, then this product is not for you. But for a normal guy like me who never worried about dustmites, pet dander/fleas eggs, or bacteria on bed, I can tell you that I am a convert. THIS THING WORKS!

If I had to pick a downside, I wish the rechargeable battery lasted longer on the big wand (It lasts up to 30 minutes after the first full charge)

After that, it relatively gets recharged pretty quickly with its AC cord, maybe 30 to 45minutes ( I didn''t check exactly)

With the portable wand, you want to invest on some good rechargeable NiMH AA batteries (four of them) with a charger, but again it doesn''t last that long. Maybe get another set of batteries...

I also do not know how long, or relative life expectancy of the UV-C bulb but hopefully it last 1000''s of hours like a LED bulb or something.

The only way I can put it is, INVEST in this device for your health. You won''t regret it.

The product came intacted no damage. The little one has a sticker to remind to take out batteries during non-use. The big one come a timer to help a person be aware of how long they have held over an object. They both come with a safety feature to turn off when turned up. I bought this as an added way to clean the bottom shoes, tooth brushes, pillows, laptop key boards and other objects that are to use cleaning material on. I bought this also, to help clean my cpap machine. I have to still flush the machine out with water, but this is just more added protection.

A person got sick from somewhere and their cold was very mild and no one else got sick.

This could be a great little tool for disinfecting doorknobs, faucet handles, TV remotes and such when traveling BUT how do you know it works? We put our faith in the manufacturer''s claims and use it mostly in motel rooms.

They are light and easy to use and don''t put much demand on the batteries. If effective they are a boon for travelers who want protection from whatever germs the previous occupants (and housekeeping staff) left behind.

The only problems we found were that you have to move slowly and their eye protection feature doesn''t let you do the underside of fixed objects like faucet handles and door knobs (the unit shuts off when you rotate it from vertical orientation).

Overall we recommend this for health-concious travellers.

Best Water Filter by Bestfilters Under Sink Version

Best Water Filter by Bestfilters Under Sink VersionI bought UCT200 version of this directly from Best Filters as that version is currently not on Amazon. The reason I picked this was, it has a stainless steel case with a 0.5 micron coconut shell solid block filter. Installation was easy and the water has a good taste. I also upgraded the faucet to the brushed nickel premium faucet, which looks very nice and does not clash at all with my stainless steel faucet. The faucet was not too expensive. A similar product could cost you a couple hundred dollars on other websites. I have ordered other filters from them and have never had a problem. I actually called them due to a delay with this product due to it selling out fast and and the customer service was excellent. I gave it five stars because I do not have any complaints.

Bissell ProHeat 2X Select Upright Deep Steam Cleaner Save 6% Off

Bissell ProHeat 2X Select Upright Deep Steam CleanerI shopped online for weeks before deciding. I have been borrowing Bissell carpet cleaners for a while, this one seems to be the best so far. Assembly was easy. It was a little heaver then I expected. I like the water resivoir, they have improved the seals & latches. The stairs are labor intensive, as the water shoots out very concentrated & it takes a lot of work to get them dry. Maybe it just takes a while to get the hang of it. Overall, glad I bought it.

I would much rather have different flooring, but we have carpet on much of the main floor of the house (and elsewhere). Although we have wood in the foyer, we inevitably track dirt into the livingroom and den. We have three children who take food in the living room even though THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED to! And, we have this fantastic Bissell Carpet Cleaner that removes almost all the dirt and stains.

I truly appreciate this carpet cleaner. We bought it based on the reviews of several different companies'' machines. We also purchased it to avoid paying a professional carpet cleaner and decided it would make sense to have one of our own. It is a purchase we are glad we made! Every month or so, my husband (his job) moves most of the furniture, gets the carpet cleaner out and cleans our carpets. They always look great afterwards and they dry within a few hours. The machine really scrubs stains and is able to suction up much of the water. It leaves big wet dusty piles of cat hair (even though we vacuum before cleaning), but I pick those up easily (my job). Our machine gets lots of use and has not caused us any problems at all.

I''ve read that cleaning carpets frequently is not very good for the carpet-it''s supposed to add a lot of wear and tear. However, our carpet is still going strong and we try to use the machine every month or so. Our carpet can get so dirty looking after a while that I don''t really care if it will affect its longevity-having our carpet clean and fresh-smelling is much more important to me.

I found putting the unit together was easy,it cleaned the white carpets of all foot traffic and dog markings, some months old , and although the carpet was wet for a day, due to the heavy clean it proformed as I expected. It was fantasic on the bamboo flooring and doesn''t need a wipe over with a dry towel as I''ve always had to do. Very good product for the price and cheaper than calling in carpet cleaners four times a year.

One day last week I walked in from my outdoor patio with a tray full of cooking ingredients, chili sauces, red wine vinegar, cooking oil, etc. and dropped the entire thing in the middle of my very light colored carpet I have so carefully maintained for many years. Every piece of cooked food with sauce all over it went on the carpet, including all the spices and liquids I use to cook asian food outdoors. I panicked and couldn''t believe I did that.

I quickly picked up as much of the food as I could and ran for the Bissell, but all the while thinking my $4,000 carpet was gone. I couldn''t imagine it would even come close to removing these types of stains to the degree the carpet was soaked with them. Dark red heavy stains and chili sauces? No way.

But I was going to give it a shot anyway. No choice. I used some cleaner in the machine I have had good luck with, which is called "Resolve" for carpet cleaners, not their other product for spot stains you do by hand. I ran to get the water in the machine as fast as I could and let it heat for about a minute. Then I went to work and made many passes over the mess. I had to empty the tank many times because of the stuff it was picking up. At first I thought it wasn''t going to work. Huge red stains, but I persisted. A half an hour later and about twenty passes with lots of cleaner, the carpet was PERFECT. This thing saved me the cost of a complete carpet replacement! To this day, I still don''t believe anything could get the stains I had out and I have tried most products, none with this success. THANKS Bissell.

After much research I chose this carpet cleaner versus a Hoover. I wish I had paid more attention to the negative reviews as they were spot on. First, the single tank for clean and dirty water is a PAIN. It holds very little and there is no indicator to tell you when you are out of solution. So you are working away and then realize you have been out of solution for who knows how long!! You are constantly emptying and refilling the tank. The separate compartment for the actual cleaning solution never seemed to empty, so I guess the machine was just spraying water. Next, as others stated, it does not seem to do a very good job of extracting the dirty solution. When I would go to empty the tank it was usually less than half full. The carpets felt very wet and took quite a while to dry. Finally, after only a few uses and 6 monthes the thing doesn''t spray anymore. What a waste of money! I wish I had gone with the Hoover!!!

Zojirushi CD-LCC30 Micom 3.0-Liter Electric Dispensing Pot Save 29% Off

Zojirushi CD-LCC30 Micom 3.0-Liter Electric Dispensing PotI just received this for Christmas, it''s something I''ve wanted for a while. Ever since my tea kettle died of old age, I''ve been boiling water for tea with a regular sauce pan and what usually happens is I forget all about it and only remember after it has been boiling for a while. Also, I didn''t like the long wait for hot water. I want instant gratification! And now I have it with this Zojirushi dispensing pot. It''s perfect since I''m an avid tea drinker, consuming several pots of tea each day.

A long long time ago, I used to have the "air pot" style dispensing pot where you just press on the top and it pumps out water. This one is a much newer design and dispensing is handled electronically. What I like is the "safety" feature which was lacking in the old "air pot" styles. You have to press the "unlock" button before the "dispensing" button which prevents accidentally dispensing hot water. You can set this to keep water at 205°F, 195°F, or 175°F. You can also set it to give you hot water in 7 hours, but this is a feature I really don''t need to use. I''m using the 195°F which seems to be a good middle ground for making black (requires hotter water) and green (requires lower temp water) teas. This is also handy for making instant noodles, oatmeal, hot chocolate. Also handy when needing hot water for a dish I''m cooking, or making chicken/beef broth for a dish I''m cooking. This is very convenient ... no more waiting for hot water! (This beats getting a replacement tea kettle because with a tea kettle I still have to wait for it to boil/whistle, and it usually whistles shortly after I''ve sat down and gotten comfortable.) This pot will automatically reboil when it feels the temp has dropped too much. The water level gauge is easy to read, the lid lifts up easily for refilling (also removes easily to make pouring water out and cleaning a cinch). Another nice little detail is a removable power cord. It makes me feel a bit "safer" being able to remove this before cleaning out the pot in the sink.

I am confident that this will last me a long time. My in-laws also have a Zojirushi water dispensing pot and it has never failed on them. And I know people who have other Zojirushi products and have had no problems with them. So I feel comfortable with this brand, and I may look into getting one of their rice cookers.

Oh, I have to mention one more nicety of this dispensing pot. The base will swivel around (think lazy suzan style), making it easy to rotate it without scratching your kitchen counter top.

The only thing I need to be careful about is where to put the dispensing pot since there is a steam vent on the top. I don''t put it directly beneath any kitchen cabinets, just in case the steam might damage the cabinet over time.

ADDED 11/19/05:

I just wanted to mention that I have had this for 2 years and it is still working as well as it did when I first got it. I have used this pot everyday for the past 2 years. I refill it at least once a day in the summer, 2-4 times a day in the winter. I use it mainly for making tea (big tea drinkers in this house) and cooking. It''s easy to clean. No staining on the inside; of course this would depend on your local water quality. Not bad at all considering the use I get out of this. I still highly recommend this pot.

I have a baby now. I have found this dispensing pot handy for quickly warming up bottles from the fridge... instant hot water to immerse bottle in. My screaming baby doesn''t have to wait long for her milk. Perfect! The pot has also been useful when mixing cereal... mix cereal with some cold water, then a splash of the hot water to bring it up to a nice warm temp for her.

I drink a fair amount of tea, and so this 3 liter size water pot is perfect for myself. I typically only refill it once a day, at night before I go to bed. It has a 7 hour delay timer that I use so that I have hot water as soon as I get up.

I use the hottest water setting that maintains the temperature at 208 degrees F. It heats up relatively quickly if it''s left at 195 degrees or at 175 degrees to save electricity, but I''m impatient and don''t like to wait.

I also use it for hot chocolate, apple cider, ramen, you name it.

It is very easy to refill thanks to the removable cover and removable power cord. The cord attaches magnetically, which makes plugging and unplugging incredibly easy.

I do have to turn the pot around so the back is facing me when I open the cover and remove it to refill the water. If I don''t, the steam hits me on the wrist when I open it, and since I keep it on the hottest setting, the steam is scalding.

There is a safety feature where you press the "unlock" button before the "dispense" button so it doesn''t accidentally dispense hot water, but it hasn''t been that important to me.

It''s super easy to clean. I bought a 1-lb package of citric acid. I weigh out 30g, dissolve it in water, and throw it into a full pot. Then I press the button to put the pot on clean mode. It takes about an hour and a half Afterward, I dump the water and boil another pot of water to rinse it. I dump that, and the next pot of water doesn''t taste like citric acid at all. There are cleaning instructions in the manual.

I clean it every few weeks, or whenever I feel like it. Our water is very hard, and even though I use filtered water, a layer of calcium will accumulate on the inside of the pot, but the cleaning takes that away without any problems.

The interior is Teflon coating, I believe, but as long as I don''t scratch it, it''s perfectly safe. It hasn''t shown any wear or tear yet.

The outside is plastic and easy to clean even when it gets splatter from the nearby stove top.

I have had my pot for 16 months and it hasn''t given me any problems. For tea lovers, I can''t recommend this enough.

Buy Zojirushi CD-LCC30 Micom 3.0-Liter Electric Dispensing Pot Now

Okay, this is going to seem like a silly purchase to a lot of people. And before I seriously considered it, it did to me too. The only reservation for me was the price. Now that I have it, I think it is worth it.

I bought it a month or so ago (and got the $25 off if you spend $125 on housewares discount amazon usually runs). It''s a great machine. There are two people here and we drink a lot of tea, all day long. I refill it at least once a day, and that''s without using it for cooking much. People who don''t make a lot of tea will probably still go through a pot a day if they use it several times for hot water for drinks or soups, and then maybe for a pot of water for pasta. It''s great for things like pre-heating a thermos or tea pot, which can really help them stay hot longer. (Doing that the old way, with kettle-boiled water was a lot more time-consuming, and I might not bother.)

It''s nice waking up to hot water using the 7 hour timer. It''s also nice for people who drink green tea or oolong, as opposed to black tea, because it has different temperature settings.

By the way, I used a lot less hot water before I purchased this thing--but I used to wait a lot for the water I did use. This is my second Zojirushi product, and I think they''re really well made (I also have a fuzzy logic rice cooker). I''ve learned that a well-designed, well-made product lasts much better, and gets used much more often, than a poorly designed one. I fully expect this will be the case with this machine.

After two years'' of continuous use, interior coating is coming off. A few rusty spots have developed in the past 6 months. The company''s website does not provide a replace container. I liked the Zojirushi brand but this one seems a disappointment.

Want Zojirushi CD-LCC30 Micom 3.0-Liter Electric Dispensing Pot Discount?

I purchased the Zojirushi 3 liter dispensing pot, and it runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in my house. We drink tea constantly, and it is wonderful not to have to wait to boil water. The Zojirushi allows you to set the desired water temperature based on your needs (i.e. 175 for green/white teas, 195 for other teas, 205 for cooking). The unit is tall enough to fit even our tallest to-go cup under the dispensing spout.

It also has a "7 hour" delayed start so that it can be off during the night, but you wake up to hot water.

The only downside is that it doesn''t appear to be insulated as well as it could be. For example, the outside of the unit is warmer than an insulated thermos-style container containing equally hot water. This suggests to me that it is not as well insulated, and therefore not as energy efficient as it could be.

I recommend it, and would buy another one in an instant if anything happened to this one.
