As noted by a previous reviewer, this unit shuts down its air conditioning function when the condensate reservoir fills up. The unit then goes into fan mode. To get air conditioning back, the user empties the reservoir using a little, almost-flat plastic pan (LAF pan) that, even with its low sides, just barely fits below the reservoir exit, which, itself, is situated under the heat exhaust hose and just a little above the floor. If you''re on a rug, the reservoir exit has even less clearance, or none. In addition to the LAF pan, you must also bring a pail to the job, so you can repeatedly empty the LAF pan into the pail. Of course, if you tip the LAF pan slightly on its way to the pail, you spill some of its contents onto your floor or rug in the process.

This is a case of abominable engineering---design that wastes your time and patience each day you use the "air conditioner." You spend time on your knees moving water from the very bottom of the unit to a pail. Then you spend more time mopping up what you''ve spilled in the process.

If there is no other way for you to exist than with this portable unit, you may want to design a fiveor six-inch-high pedestal that holds the unit securely and allows you to place a bigger emptying vessel below the reservoir exit. (About half a gallon would be good.)

Better is to rethink the buying decision and return the unit.

Soleus pe2-10r-32 review. PLEASE NOTE: I bought this for $299 plus tax in box, and brand new at Menards hardware store on 5-11-11. I COMPLETELY AGREE with Mr. Griffiths and Koqn. This unit has hardly any dehumidifying ability. I WAS using it in the bedroom, and it hardly cools at all. It is also loud, but I think that goes with the territory of a portable, because the compressor, and motor are on the inside of your house, instead of outside the window. However I TOTALLY RECOMMEND their window units. I have a 12,000 soleus, and it reduces humidity in my 12 X 22 X 7'' high front room a lot. It will reduce it from 70% on a bad, muggy day to about 40% in just a couple hours. I am going to take this back, get another 12,000 and put that in my bedroom window. Not much else to say except I would like to thank Soleus for helping me to a great WORK OUT while hauling it up and down the steps.

This unit works great. The only part I agree with on the other reviews is the drain hole. It''s in a terrible place but to solve that I simply put it on a small table that was about 18" high and put a 5 gallon bucket under it for drainage. It takes about a day for the bucket to fill up and was my saving grace last summer during a heat wave. It was exactly what we needed and worded great.

This turned out to be a glorified fan. Even when we put a box fan a 12 or 24 inches from the front of the unit to cool the room off, it still did not produce sufficient coolness. I am taking it back and getting another window unit. We walked across the street and our friends had their 10,000 BTU window unit on and it was cooling the whole bottom floor. The Soleusa we purchased could not even do the job for one room.

Pros:

Cons:

This probably only filters out 50% of the contaminants in regular faucet water. Better than nothing, but don''t think that it''s "pure" water.

* Bottles are too small (16.9oz), even for children. Should be 20-24 ounces.

* The lid on the unit just sets into place, not very secure. From looking at the picture, I was hoping the entire unit would be portable, or would travel. It definitely does not the bottles do not lock into place, the lid or filter don''t lock into place. I wish the lid locked on, and the unit had a handle on top. I''d love to be able to travel with this it''s much more useful on the "road" (at work, traveling, etc), than it is at home.

* I like different colored caps, but the bottles are not very kid-friendly. The caps screw off, they do not squirt, and cannot hold a straw.

* The entire gizmo is somewhat flimsy if our children ever knocked it on the floor, it would shatter in a 100 pieces. I think the price point is a bit high given the overall quality of the unit I''d expect a price point of around $30-35.

I popped open the box, cleaned it as instructed and filled up our bottles.

I like the water bottles, they are nice and sturdy, perfect for our son''s school lunches or a trip to the gym. The bottles are easy to clean, and I haven''t had any issues with water leakage when filling them up in the station. The water filters out quickly, no long waits.

At first glance, I thought this was expensive, but we paid about $12 for our Camelbak bottles, on the other hand, they are bigger than the bottles that come with this system. But my issue is going to be replacing the filter. I''m not always good about that, and when the filter needs to be replaced, I simply move over to my fridge and get my water from there. And that means, I have something sitting on my counter, or in my cabinets that I don''t use very often.

I like this system for my children, I can quickly fill up the bottles for my two younger boys to take outside when they play with friends. Because they are a bit smaller, they do not take up as much room in their backpacks or lunch sacks. We use it often now, but in three months (when the filter will needs to be replaced) if I don''t remember to get a filter, or one isn''t easily available (though you can order them from Amazon for about $11) I will go right back to using my fridge''s water system. For many years now, I''ve been a big advocate of clean water. The common tap contains a mixture of lead, chlorine, pesticides, fungicides, minerals, and fluoride.

Whenever I go to a restaurant, I instantly know when I''m drinking tap water by the bitter taste. You can somewhat disguise it by making the water cold (using ice), but not totally.

I use a carbon filter at home, which supposedly removes 99% of the contaminants. The nice thing about carbon is that the water still contains the positive minerals that our bodies need. Whereas reverse osmosis removes everything, good and bad.

I mention this because the Filtrete 4-Bottle Water Station uses a carbon based filter. As of this review, the replacements cost $9.50 and can be located on Amazon here: 3M Filtrete Fast Flow Filter. The manufacturer claims that each one lasts for approximately three months. That would be $38 a year to spend on filters. Now, keep in mind that this is just a loose guesstimate. Usage, not time, ultimately determines how often a filter needs to be changed.

Upon first use, I was surprised how quickly the water flowed through the filter and into the bottles. Usually, carbon slows down the process considerably. This means the technology used in the filter is either really good, or really bad. Since I don''t have a quality tester, I''m unable to determine this for certain. I will say, however, that I noticed a bitter taste when using this filter over the one on my mainline at home. It could just be that the filter needs time to break in.

The bottles themselves are quite nice. Similarly shaped/sized to the throwaway water bottles on the market, it makes the adjustment of switching easier. The strap which connects the lid to the bottle is good for easy one-finger carrying. The strap can also be removed from the bottle should it annoy you. Oddly enough, I found that the strap can''t be removed from the screw-on lid itself. So you either have a lid with a strap or no lid at all. Personally, I don''t find it an issue because Filtrete smartly designed the strap to rotate away from the top when you take a drink--nothing more annoying than having a strap you have to force back with your fingers, so kudos to them for thinking of this during the design phase.

I also like how the top of the bottle unscrews to make for easy cleaning (and, if you really want to, turn it into a drinking glass). The clear plastic of the bottle makes the water inside look crystal clear, appetizing. As a result I find myself drinking more water than I normally do (subliminal). Since I have access to filtered water at work already, I simply refill the bottle as-is, thus avoiding use of the one it came with, which prolongs its lifespan (and saves money).

Overall, I''m happy with this set. It cuts down on the amount of disposable water bottles my wife has been buying, which is good for the environment (they claim it saves up to 3000 discarded bottles a year), and keeps down clutter and storage space. I have yet to be impressed with the actual filtering quality itself, but I''m thinking that will come with time and frequent usage.

NOTE: The manufacturer claims these are dishwasher safe, but make sure you put them on the top shelf not the bottom. As for myself, I''ll be handwashing them to avoid possible hard water buildup caused by prolonged exposure to the dishwasher.

How it works: Place whole thing in sink so the faucet pours water into the top of the device and filters water into each of the 4 BPA free bottles.

It really does filter water fast (within seconds), so I don''t know if that means it''s effectively filtering my tap water or not. There is no chance of overfilling the bottles because any extra water just sits at the top or pours out of the spout. I don''t like this feature because there''s potential for stagnant water to just sit in the spout which I cannot remove to clean.

I really like the design of the 16oz BPA free bottles but I wish they were bigger. The lid unscrews in 2 places: 1 from the bottle and 1 at the very top at the mouthpiece. Unscrewing the lid from the bottle allows me to fill the bottle quickly (larger opening) and the very top of the lid unscrews to reveal the lip of the lid which is perfect for guzzling from.

Unfortunately, the whole contraption takes up too much space in my sink and counter, and I find it easier to use my Brita filter to fill up the bottles. I''ll keep the bottles but I could do without the rest of the station because of it''s large footprint.

I purchased this ozone generator to combat the urine/fecal/pet smells coming from our "cat room" on the second floor. There are three litter boxes and two food dishes in the room and often but not always an offensive collection of odors emanates and can even be smelled on the first floor at the bottom of the stairwell. Even with daily cleaning of the boxes, the smells persist. In the past, we used a HEPA filter which was somewhat effective however, it required routine cleaning of the filter element and once this became gunked up the odors returned. Too much hassle, not to mention it was a large contraption. I was looking for an "install it and forget it" solution.

I researched ozone generators and wasn''t quite convinced. For one, the EPA does NOT recommend using an ozone generator and claims that not only do they pose a health hazard (mostly for those with respiratory issues/asthma), but they are also ineffective at scrubbing smells. (This research can be found online check it out). Not only that, there are a ton of ozone generators on the market, and they all look the same and appear to come from China, so that''s not very confidence-inspiring, either. I took a gamble and didn''t expect much return on my $40, but my main objective was to dispel or verify claims on both sides.

The PurePlug unit itself has a small footprint it''s a little larger than a night light and plugs directly into an outlet. It includes its own version of a night light, which is the blue semi-circle in the center of the device. This feature is useless, in my opinion. It doesn''t emit enough light to be considered a night light replacement, but that''s not why I bought it. I figured it was manufacturer hype which it was.

The unit is operated by turning a knob clock-wise. You are able to control the flow of ozone by operating the knob from "off" to full blast the 6 o''clock position is "off". There is an audible sound, like a gas leak, when the device is in use. The sound increases as the knob is advanced. Because I''m not upstairs much, other than when I''m asleep in the bedroom with the door closed, the noise isn''t a bother. If you install it near a liveable area, especially a den, it might be distracting.

The ozone generator emits a very strong, distinct smell. You can almost taste it. There have been a lot of comparisons, and the "outdoorsy" characterization is accurate. I would compare it to wormy soil after a rain storm, with a chemical tinge. This may or may not bother you. I''ve lived in the country all my life, so I''m used to it. Even though this unit is only supposed to service a room between 30-100 sq. feet, the ozone odor is detectable way outside this radius. I can strongly smell it in the connecting hallway and at the door to my bedroom about 15 feet away, and even faintly at the bottom of the stairs. This is with the knob cranked to full blast. I don''t think I would want this ozone generator near a liveable area unless there was a strong odor there which needed to be eliminated (in my case, there isn''t it''s only in the cat room upstairs). Basically, the ozone smell is going to replace whatever you''re trying to get rid of. If you can''t take it, that might not be a good thing.

This brings me to the most important rating factor does the unit eliminate offensive odors? In my experience, yes, it does. I run the unit about 12 hours a day on the full setting. As mentioned, the cat smells are gone, replaced with the ozone odor. They have not been "covered up", like spraying an air freshener as a masking agent. The room smells cleaner/fresher and I don''t feel as gross being in there. In fact, I hung a heavy bag in the doorway and work out in the room now. I turn off the ozone generator an hour or two in advance so that it airs out. Keep in mind that the unit is not going to eliminate smells as they occur. When one of the cats poops, I can immediately detect it but, instead of the odor fanning throughout the house, it''s now contained and subdued quickly. This is why I purchased the device and it''s performing as I''d hoped.

I will update this review in the future regarding: a) any ill health effects experienced from inhaling ozone, b) how long one should run the device for it to clean a 100 sq. foot room by experimenting with different durations (as noted, it''s currently on 12 hours a day), and c) the longevity of the unit itself.

First, Ozone isn''t overpowering once it kills/neutralizes all the embedded pollutants in your home. Mostly what people are smelling is an all out war between ozone and it''s adversaries. Keep in mind that this can take weeks, even months with such a little unit. However, once it''s cleaned up your home, it will smell more like the air after it rains out..... and who hates that?

It says good for up to 50 sq. ft. That''s non-sense, this thing is a POWERHOUSE. I got this unit cause I''m a smoker and wanted it to keep the clothes in my walk in closet fresh smelling. I thought I''d test it out on high when I first got it..... Put it between the kitchen and my living room in an open concept design with Cathedral ceilings. Well, let me tell you, within hours, seemingly the whole house smelled like ozone! I wasn''t crazy about the smell initially but it let me know the areas it was effective in and once cleaned up, the smell was fresh and not overpowering. I ended up buying 3 of these and strategically placed, worked wonders on my whole 1300 sq. ft. apt.

One caveat, this thing will perform much better with air circulation. Near a return vent or close to a larger room air purifier is ideal. That''s were this baby really shines. I couldn''t imagine using this on low in a small room with no air movement. For that matter, if it were on high in a larger sized bedroom, you''d have have to admit defeat and leave the room!! My guess is one for every 400 square feet on low would be perfect for whole house "air conditioning" without going overboard. Price is EXCELLENT if it outlasts its TWO YEAR WARRANTY~!!!

I have only had this dryer for about 10 days now, but I''m very happy with it! There is one other review for this dryer and in it they say it takes a long time for the clothes to dry... this is true. But I think it''s to be expected since this dryer can simply be plugged into any outlet unlike a normal dryer. So, smaller dryer... less power... longer drying time. The reason I''m giving this unit 5 stars is because if getting out the laundry mat is as important to you as it was to me, then the extra drying time is more than acceptable. Also, this dryer is VERY QUITE, simple to use and set up. For the first 5 loads I just had the machine sitting on the floor near a window I didn''t even have the hose out the window. It did get my apartment a little warm and humid (not since I''ve put the hose out the window of course), but I''m just making the point that it is very easy to set up.

How long does it take to dry clothes? I''m still trying to get all the drying times down myself. But I''m having much better luck using the timed dry instead of the auto dry. On auto drying it does seem to take hours before it finally stops. So I''ve just started to try and figure how long certain things dry. For example, my sheets (fitted bottom and the top sheet) I''m drying now between 60 or 90 minutes. On both times the sheets are close to dry and hanging them up for a little longer is enough. I guess this review is a little premature since I don''t have the dry times down yet. But I have the feeling 90 minutes will dry most stuff about 90 percent.

I think once I make the adjustment and get things organized drying will not be a hassle at all. And for me the extra fiddling I have to do while drying in my apartment is so much better than having the hassle of organizing taking everything out of apartment, waiting, digging up quarters, using a machine that has been used 10,0000 times instead my nice new machine.

I have owned now the Haier Washer and Haier Dryer now for 5 months and I still am incredibly happy with my purchase. Even with the very long drying times with the dryer I love not having to go down to the W&Ds in the apartments laundry room.

But there is a solution to the long drying time with the dryer: Not long after posting my review C. Mok posted this comment (note: the spin dryer is very small 24 inches high, 14 inches in diameter $134.00 + shipping and only one company seems to sell them in the US):

May I suggest complementing your electric dryer with a small spin dryer? I bought a spin dryer on a whim when I remembered those were the only things used in Asia when I was there during the 80s. It has worked really well along side my small portable washer in my small apt. I hang dry most of my laundry except when I''m in a hurry. The spin dryer cuts drying time in half easily. Most spin cycle on washers go about maybe 600 800 rpm. The little spin dryer spins at 3000rpm. On a small wash (2 bath towels) it can spin out over a quart of water (over 32fl oz) in less than 2 minutes. That is a significant amount of water to evaporate using normal dryers. This will shorten your drying time and also save your clothes from heat damage from the prolong drying times. The only catch is trying to balance the load in the small spin dryer. I find it easiest to load all the heavy cotton clothes on the bottom and the lighter synthetic clothes on the top. Then give it a good shove and compress everything tightly down. Thats has worked really well for me. Check out for a small spin dryer. Good luck!

I finally bought the spin dryer to work with my Haier dryer about a month ago and now washing and drying is very similar to using normal sized machines. Now there is just a very short middle step. I''ll give examples of some of the basic loads I do each week.

Whites (socks 10-12 pair, underwear 10-12 pair, t-shirts 2-4):

After using the washing machine I put all clothes in the spin dryer. It is important to pack the spin dryer the way the manual suggests to prevent the dryer from bouncing around like R2-D2 in a bad mood. With small items like socks and underwear though, it''s pretty easy, and after experience you will see what you can just drop and press in the SD (spin dryer)and what you need to wrap around. I does sound like this middle step is a pain, but after you use it a bunch of times, it''s pretty easy and you don''t give it a second thought. When you turn the SD on, it starts to spin, shakes a bit, then settles down and gets very quiet as it picks up speed. When you first use the spin dryer, you think, wow, i got ripped off! No water is coming out!.... But wait... after about 30 seconds water starts flow out. Dribbly at first but then... wow! With a full load, CUPS of water fill your water catcher. I have had between 1 and 5 cups of water (normally 2-3), depending on what I was washing. Once the water flow starts to slow down, you turn off the machine. It only takes 2-3 minutes.

I then take my clothes and put then in the Haier dryer and set the timer to 90 minutes. After 90 minutes the clothes are BONE DRY. I''m not sure how long it actually takes, but if the load is a little smaller there is a very good chance they will be dry after only 1 hour.

Darks: 2 pairs of pants, 6-8 T-shirts, 1 sweat shirt. In the SD, you do now need to put the pants in first, wrapped into the bottom of the machine, then the sweat shirt, then the shirts. Again, after 90 minutes bone dry (as I said, they are probably done after 70 min? 80 min? I''m not sure because I just open it after the buzzer goes off.

Sheets (king size): OK, sheets are the only thing that I wash that can be slightly problematic. Because these are large items, they can make R2-D2 (the spin dryer) unhappy. You have to be the most careful here wrapping them into the spin dryer. In the Haier Dryer also, they can at times ball up. I normally wash 2-3 sheets at a time. Put them all in the spin dryer at once, then in the Haier dryer for 60 minutes EACH. I found that they don''t ball up when you dry them separately. So yes, it would still take you 2 hours to dry 2 sheets.

The Washer and dryer are freakishly quite, but the Spin Dryer does have a lot of vibration at the beginning and end of it''s 2-3 minute spin. Not a big deal because of the short time, but if you have thin floors and a neighbor under you, they might wonder what is going up every 45 minutes for 3 minutes while you are doing laundry. I suggest getting 1 or 2 thick squares of carpet.

I did just read the comment from someone who had problems ordering a spin dryer. I can''t speak for that company other than mine arrived on time and in good shape and still works like new. I did go to the BBB link and did only see 1 complaint about the company.

For reasons I don''t understand, I was only ever able to find 1 company in the US that sells a spin dryer. Maybe some enterprising individual might think of importing some from a country that uses them more and start a business selling them. I had a friend who told me that they are pretty common in Europe. (Note: I do remember I had to wait a month to order a spin dryer from the Laundry Alternative because they were out of stock. I''m not vouching for the company just giving my personal experience.

November 6, 2009 UPDATE

I was curious to see how long I''ve had my washer and dryer to calculate how much I''ve saved in quarters (13 months x $20 = $260). It''s been over a year so I thought I''d add a first year update. The washer, dryer, and spin dryer all work like new. Which is great, I''m not sure if I''m lucky or not, but in my case they are fine. I did make the decision not to use bleach early on. I''m not sure if that has made any difference.

As far as drying. I reread my review and while it is true, if you use the spin dryer before the Haier dryer your wash will be bone dry in 90 minutes, that is with a small-med load. If you fill the dryer to the max. It will take 2-2.5 hours to dry. I just make sure to do medium loads more often.

My mom told me a secret to drying sheets! I still dry one sheet at a time for 90 minutes, but my mom said, AND SHE WAS RIGHT, if you put in a DRY towel (I use a big one) the sheet does not ball up while it spins. This has made a big difference in drying sheets, which are a pain to dry. I also bought a retractable clothesline from amazon. So when I dry sheets, (I don''t use the spin dryer for sheets because the sheets are so big they can make the spin dryer go out of balance), I hang one on he clothes line, and they dry 1 for 90 minutes. Then I take the one out of the dryer and put it on the clothes line and put the one one from the clothes line in the dryer. Sometimes I have to put a sheet in for another 30 minutes.

Also, you really do need pull out and clean out the filter after every load. It really makes the drying time MUCH faster because it allows the air to flow out of the machine. You have to clean the lint off the "catch" and also the black filter thingy. Someone posted that an improvement on removing the filter would make the dryer a lot better. I totally agree with that.

The bottom line is: It depends on your personality; which do you dislike more? Digging up quarters, piling up your soap on your clothes in a basket and making a bunch of trips to the laundry room once a week or setting up these crazy contraptions in your apartment and turning your laundry doing into an art form where you have to get creative and be a little unorthodox.

I thought I''d add another update for this dryer. It is still doing its thing :) I don''t know if I just got really lucky or what. Still works the same as when I bought it :) I do use the spin drier before using this dryer so maybe my loads are a bit lighter (less water) and I mainly use the 1.5 hour setting. I defiantly put in smallish loads. So maybe that has kept the parts from wearing down. But I do use it a lot. Probably 3-8 loads a week. It''s just so easy do do a load in my apartment and since I think smaller loads are wise. I just do use it a lot. I''m not sure how much life it has left in it.... but it seems okay for now... "knock on wood" again :)

edit 11/15: forgot to mention that you can set the dryer to a timed setting (30,60, 90, 120 minutes) and choose a higher or lower heat setting. BOY, I''m so happy I bought this. I no longer have to get quarters from the supermarket on Friday after work. This dryer really dries well. I really love the convenience of watching a football game on Sunday, and checking on the clothes during a commercial. Best investment for me EVER! I can almost guarantee if you buy this dryer, you''ll be coming back to write a positive review.

edit: 4/27/12you have to clean the black filter also really well. I roll a lint brush across it, and just bang it outside once in a while. The heat goes through there, so the better you clean it, the better your dryer will dry.

Update: 11/12, This dryer works as well as when I first received it. It''s still running strong after 2 years with doing 3-4 loads every weekend.

***Note, If you have a small place like myself invest in a spin dryer. It cuts down on the heat drying time by hours.

I have a model of this I bought about a year ago--it looks slightly different than the one pictured here but has the same model number.

That said, this dryer is GREAT. It does take a while to dry clothes, but I got it to go along with the haier portable washer, and it dries one load in the time it takes another load to wash when I use the power wash setting, so that''s pretty good.

However, the automatic settings really don''t work that well--like a previous poster, I recommend using the timed dry options.

I also don''t have the dryer vented to the outside--I instead purchased an indoor lint trap thing. I don''t know that it really does much, but the dryer doesn''t seem to release a lot of lint into my apartment. The dryer does add some heat and humidity to the apartment, but that''s great in the fall/winter. Not so much in the summer, but it still beats having to go to the laundromat.

If you live in an apartment or somewhere that doesn''t have laundry hookups or a 220V line, this dryer is a great purchase.

I sell appliances for a living, so I know quite a lot about them. I bought one of the first little Haier washers 6 years ago, and ever since, I wished there was a matching dryer. Since my washer has held up so well all this time (never a problem and I use it LOTS), I decided to buy this dryer right away once I discovered it. I''ve had it about a month.

Let me tell you about dryers: Get the biggest one you have space for, same as for washers. and you''ll be happier. I move often and I tend to rent small places, so this is the only one to consider; It''s either this or drying racks! All the other portables currantly out there are bigger and more cumbersome than this one. This one truly is portable in that I can pick it up and carry it easily. But, it will not hold as many clothes as the bigger ones. It is, however, perfect for the little Haier washers.

If you want faster drying times, be prepared to have a 220v or gas line installed. (Your landlord will go for that, sure!) Otherwise, 120v portable dryers are going to take, on average, 90 minutes per load. The flip side of this is that you can operate it almost ANYWHERE, and your landlord doesn''t even need to know you have it!

120v dryers also do not have to be vented outside. They do not produce nearly the lint of larger dryers. You can if you want.

Tinier dryers may produce an extra wrinkle or two over largers ones. They don''t have as much room for tumbling, so, be sure not to overload this one. That will also affect drying time. No dryer should be filled more than half full of wet clothes, unless you like ironing out wrinkles.

I ordered this from Amazon, thinking that I was getting the one with the window and the dial. Instead, I got the one with the electronic controls, which is the nicer one. I''m not sure the window/dial version is available anymore. This has all electronic controls with many little lights. Very hi-tek! It has a sensor dry feature that is usually accurate. Sometimes, I''ll need to add some manual dry time afterwards, especially if I''ve mixed lightweight with heavier weight fabrics, as that throws the sensor off a little. Of course, keeping like-weight clothes together would be better.

There are 3 auto-dry cyles: Normal, Heavy, and Delicate. Use Heavy for Jeans and Towels. I''m not sure when I''ll ever use Delicate, as 120v dryers only dry on low heat! That is why they take longer to dry. I believe that cycle uses an even lower heat. There is also timed dry available. Drying status lights (drying, cooling, done, and check lint filter) are helpful. It has an end-of-cycle signal. It does not have a drying rack, as some descriptions on the web have stated.

This, like my little washer, is surprisingly well-built! It has a metal body (I was expecting plastic). I think it will last a long time, hassle-free, just like my washer has.

My only real complaint is the lint filter. It seems fragile and it is the most bothersome one I''ve ever had to clean! There are two filters nested together, one fine and the other course, and both have to be cleaned. It is located on the back of the drum and doesn''t pull off that easily. I imagine this is necessary, though, because of the dryer''s small size. I wish Haier would have made a stronger, more convenient filter. THIS IS THE ONLY REASON I AM GIVING THIS DRYER FOUR INSTEAD OF FIVE STARS.

Overall, if space and portability are your chief concerns, Haier''s small washers and this dryer are very, very good! I highly recommend them. However, if you have more space, and stay put for many years, get something bigger.

I bought this drier to go with my compact Haier 23E washer. I am mostly happy with it, although the product description is somewhat misleading.

1) Venting. On pictures, it looks like this dryer needs no venting. It claims you can place it anywhere. It has three (!) lint filters, so lint should not be a problem. But the user manual says that this dryer *must* be vented outside or else drying performance will suffer. I found this to be true. I made myself a window vent kit & the dryer performance increased dramatically. This dryer does not move a lot of air, so the moist air expelled from it will stick around the dryer, only to be sucked back in, leading to long drying times (and according to the user manual, voiding your warranty). Note that ducting cannot exceed 6ft. The dryer ships with a standard 4" duct adapter. Once vented outside, this dryer does an excellent job. It dries most things in 90 minutes or less. Light fabrics seem to dry in 45 minutes. Vented indoors, I was about to return this thing. You might be able to vent it indoors if you place it in an area where there is enough air movement but this dryer is meant for small spaces where it chokes on its own moisture if not vented outdoors.

2) Capacity. This dryer has a fairly low capacity. You can dry one queen sized sheet and pillowcases, or two bath towels along with some socks/underwear. If you put too much stuff in the dryer, it will not dry things AT ALL. This is because the heat is coming from a little vent in the front the dryer which will get blocked if the dryer is too full. I once attempted to dry a queen sized sheet and duvet at once and thought the dryer was broken since after one hour, the sheets were still soaking vet and cold to the touch. I then removed the duvet and dried the sheet by itself and it was done in 45 minutes.

3) Watch your fingers. This dryer can burn your fingers. The heating element is located inconspicuously in the front, just to the lower left of the opening. The dryer normally runs a cool down cycle, but if you interrupt the dry cycle, do not touch the front inside wall of the dryer near the vent. It gets very hot. This dryer is different in that the heating element is in the front and the exhaust in the back.

Overall, I am very happy I don''t need to go to the laundromat. This dryer does a great job if you don''t overload it and vent it outside.

Excellent system and it does all that is advertized however, the price of the membrane at Home Depot and such make it almost worthwhile to buy bottled water. If I''d not found this product on AMAZON, I would have switched back because it would cost per year just for this item not to mention the other two filters. We use the GE filter for our water here in Arizona which is the worst water we''ve ever had excepting Florida. After reverse osmosis, its actually better than bottled water, missing the plastic taste.

The issue with this filter, and GE''s systems, is the high cost of the filters, and that even with the ridiculous price, they are generally not in stock anywhere. Often you can find the osmosis filter, but not the charcoal filters, but frequently its the other way around. Plan on $200-$300 per year for replacement filters from GE, which means sometimes you can by a new system for the price of the filters during sales.

This filter goes in the center spot of the three canisters, and be very careful about installing the drain plug replacement that comes with it. The drain hose is marked drain hose, but you may not see it because the picture in the document is not complete and its probably darker where you are working, although it comes in every major language plus some, it tells none of them a complete story.

Of course Amazon gets it to the door on time and easy, but the pricing is higher than you will find on the net, and if you are in a state where Amazon is charging tax you will do better elsewhere, you might have to buy 2 for a free shipping offer elsewhere, but having them on hand is not a bad idea since when they start to go it will be right before a Christmas Party or Thanksgiving or Baby Shower or Wedding.
