I''ve purchased the D40 filters in the past. They are good to reduce lead and other major contaminants in the water. However, the water flow is quite reduced due to the extra level of filtration. They only last for 4 months and the flow decreases as you use the D40.

In contrast, the D30 lasts 12 months, still has a great filtration profile, and the water flow is much faster and easier to cope with. In fact, I can hardly notice any difference between the hot water and the cold water now, compared with when I had the D40, and the cold water was annoyingly slow.

I recommend this filter over the more expensive D40 for everyday use, unless you have tested your water and found it to have lead. Then I''d use the D40 for health reasons, but not until then. There is no added benefit to the D40 in terms of water taste, or protection from microorganisms, compared with the D30.

The D-30 cartridge severely restricts water flow and nowhere on the packaging does it indicate this. I had to return them to amazon for a refund. Am using the D-10''s with no noticeable reduction in water flow/pressure. Suugest that Culligan come up with some indication of water flow for each of their water filters. If water flow is not an issue for you, then the D-30''s are probably fine.

Culligan screwed this one up. The original D-30 worked perfectly with my new-ish (2009) under-sink filter housing. However, the D-30A leaks, makes a loud humming sound, and reduces the flow of water to a trickle. I cannot find ANY D-30''s anywhere, not at any of my local hardware stores, nor online. In desperation, I compared the new D-30A filter to the old D-30 filter I was replacing, and found that the hole in the top was significantly smaller in the new filter. I used a 5/32 drill bit to enlarge the hole (holding the filter upside down so plastic shavings would not fall into the filter) and installed it. Lo and behold, no more leaking, no more loud noise, and water flow is back to normal. My theory is they used a cheaper, less effective filtration material, so had to reduce the flow significantly in order to achieve the same filtration specs. This means I''m probably not getting the same level of filtration as before with the original filter, however I cannot taste the difference, and the alternative is replacing my Culligan filter with something else.

I upgraded from the previous D-20 filter that came with the original. It worked well. When I installed this filter, it reduced water flow and caused a loud whistling as water passed through it. I removed and replaced several times to purge air, no change. I noticed that the old filter had larger holes for the water to pass through. I may have reduced the efficiency, but to achieve water flow without the noise I drilled several small holes to increase the outflow. Works fine, full flow and no noise now. Will buy D-20 next time.

I purchased a Maytag refrigerator from an authorized Maytag dealer in October 2005. I was informed, at the time of purchase, the filter will last 12onths( or very close to 12 months). There is an indicator on the refrigerator that tells me when to change the filter. About a year went by and sure enough the light went on ,I bought a new filter from the Maytag store, and all was well. I followed this every year until 2009. BonaKemi WP500351001 32-Ounce Hardwood Floor Polish Low Gloss Save 8% Off

This polish product is in packaging that looks JUST like the cleaner. I mistakenly picked up a bottle of this, and inserted into the refill of my cleaning mop. Noticed streaks and a dirty haze all over my less than 6 month old hardwood floor. Finally pulled out my refill mop label and the label for this bottle and started reading closely (REALLY closely).

I went on the internet and almost became sick. This polish is completely different from the cleaner and basically will ruin your hardwood floors.

This product prevents recoating of hardswoods. If I ever want to redo my floors, they will have to be sanded down to bare wood. Moreover, I called Bona and they told me my options were to 1) apply this junk all over my floors (and reapply every 2-3 months), or 2) spend $150 to buy and apply a product called bona remover. I was leaning toward the remover, but have some real concerns that it will basically strip the factory applied varish off my hardwoods floors.

My floors were beautiful before i applied this piece of junk. I don''t understand why Bona would put this very different product in packaging that looks almost exactly like the cleaner.

Well 400 dollars out of pocket later, I finally have this junk off my floor. Bona sells a hardwood floors polish remover that will remove this stuff, but it take many bottles and lots of elbow grease. Took a professional over 6 hours to get it all off. I am apparently not the only person that has mistakenly picked up this junk. The polish remover was on backorder when I first ordered, and the CS representative knew exactly what I was talking about when I called in. Maybe Bona is making such a killing from everyone''s mistake that they see no need to change the packaging.

Be forewarned. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT.

We mistakenly applied this to our polyurethane finished oak floors instead of the Refresher product which we had used before with great results. The floors had never been waxed and only cleaned with the Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner. The first coat came out awful (blotchy and uneven) so we decided to apply a second coat. What a mistake! The results were even worse!

We contacted Bona and found out the only way to strip this awful stuff off was to scrub the floors with ammonia and water. After 8 hours on our hands and knees we are finally back to where we started. The stuff removed was a cheesy-textured grayish beige goop that took considerable scrubbing with a nylon brush to get off.

We have used most other Bona products and have always been satisfied. We have no idea what purpose this product serves in the Bona product line, but if you want dull, dirty looking floors this will certainly do the trick.

We have used other Bona products with success , but when we used Bona Hardwood Floor Polish (BHFP) on our Cherry hardwood floors, they became hazy and dull within minutes and the BHFP would not come off! We thought our floors were ruined! After quickly trying several methods and products to remove the BHFP (nothing was working), we sprayed the floors with Windex Multisurface Vinegar spray cleaner and spread the vinegar over the entire surface of the floors and wiped it down/rubbed it with paper towels and the mop pad. The mop pad had to be washed repeatedly to remove the BHFP residue from it so we could repeat the process over and over. After several hours, our floors were back to normal. We feel very lucky our remedial efforts to quickly remove the BHFP worked. Do not use this product!

Expobar Office Control Espresso Machine

I have owned this machine for three years and have never regretted it. Ok, I regretted it a little when I had to get it repaired once, but it is a straightforward and simple machine, with a double boiler so you don''t have to switch temperatures between making espresso and steaming milk.

I''ve owned this machine for over a year now and it has been a workhorse. There are days that I pull 3 triple shots (using a triple basket and bottomless portafilter) a day just for me. Then there are days where I have company over and can quickly make lattes, mochas, and americanos for my guests in very little time. I use this with a Nuova Simonelli MDX grinder (flat burr). I''ve owned cheap machines in the past with single boilers and pressurized portafilter baskets, but this thing blows them away. If you are looking for an e61 HX machine on a budget, look no further.

My routine is this:

pull 4-5 ounces of water as a flush, but also to heat my two 2.5 ounce shot glasses.

dry the portafilter (i use a triple basket)

grind 18-21 grams of coffee into portafilter, distribute (north, south, east, west), tamp ~ 30 lbs

insert portafilter and pull 2.5-3 oz shot, stopping the pull when "blonding" starts, around 35 40 seconds (22-30 for a double shot).

I would recommend getting a different steam tip. I found both a 3-hole and a 4-hole tip from another site, Chris''s Coffee. The 3-hole is a nice improvement where I can go from about 60-seconds to steam ~ 8 oz of milk, down to about 35 seconds. The 4-hole tip is even quicker, though it takes much more practice to get latte art quality microfoam. Using the 4-hole tip, I can steam 8 oz of milk in around 20 seconds and the steam power is amazing. The problem with the original single-hole tip, is that it restricts the steam too much in my opinion. It makes it easy to make great foam, but it takes too long.

Overall, this is a great machine. It is built like a tank and the programmable buttons are a nice feature. I really like the auto backflush clean cycle that it has. Eventually, I''ll probably have to send it to a shop to get descaled, but that is the case with an HX machine, from what I''ve read. Anytime you are repeatedly heating water, it''s going to require a descale at some point. I have a whole-home water softener and RO water at the tap, but I still use the included filter / softener in the water tank to cut down on the scale.

I have owned this machine for 8 years and for 6 it was working. Overall this is a good machine. It is not a easy machine to repair with its enclosed design. It is very good for what it was designed for: fitting a small area and keeping the cups warm for use. Its greatest feature for our family and office use has been ease of use and the ''quad'' espressos. The largest issues are fluctuations in heat at the group head resulting in variations in quality of the brew. (The ''heat'' eventually will fry the nice push button controls.) Getting repairs are expensive and hard to get in some areas.

Learn as much as you can about the machine and how it operates and clean and flush it regularly (the manual and paperwork it comes with is worthless). Replace the cheap plastic water container (the least they could have done was include a stainless container over the plastic) with a direct plumbing line and filter will save a lot of grief. The container will run out of water more often than you think, so check and fill often. The grind is very important in this machine, too fine and you''ll have a long day of cleaning it for their is a second area behind ''the group'' that will retain the powdered nectar and clog a secondary screen. If unaware, you will be buying new pumps and relays and such.

The baseline question to ask is the convenience and ease of use for this time (5-6 years) worth 1200 dollars to you? If it is, Is the 700 dollar repair also worth continuing down the road with the unit (you will grow to either love or hate) at that 6 year mark? If this is your office machine, it probably is, but if it is for home use, you may want to consider the above.

I can''t seem to find a deal on these anywhere and Meile insists that you use thier products if they are going to honor the service warranty. That said, I have NEVER worked with a better customer service company so I don''t mind paying a little more and the coffee the machine makes is out of this world. The cover falls off everytime you try to pour a glass of water. My old Brita with the missing spout cap is still a better option. With this filter there is only 1/8 inch lip of plastic that fits into the inner holding tank and butts up against it so that the front and back cannot both be all the way down at the same time. My old Brita had a 3/8 inch lip that fit inside the inner holding tank and never fell off.

Brita has taken a step backwards with this product. The design is flawed.

I paid 46.88 for the Melitta on Amazon and ordered a Saeco 101167 50-Ounce Electric Water Kettle for 39.99 that has what appears to be an accurate temp setting, digital temp display, a 2 hour temp hold feature and cool lighting system that does nothing of value but is a cute feature.

The Saeco does a better job, has far more useful features and costs about $7.00 dollars less.

I am very happy with this kettle, although I have only had it for a week, so its durability is yet to be tested.

It is almost all metal inside, except for the lid, filter and parts of the water-level. I was worried about BPA-leaching plastic and this was the best I could find in a variable temperature kettle, especially for this price ($45 all others are usually 60-80 dollars), although it does not say that the plastic that is present inside (however little) is BPA-free. I suppose you''d have to contact the seller to find out, but it''s probably safe to assume that if it doesn''t say "BPA-free" that it''s not. In any case, I think the only ones that are completely metal inside just have one temp (boil).

The water heats up really quickly. I have not measured the temperature for each temp setting, but I can definitely tell that the water for "green tea" is adequate and does not come out as hot as for "black tea", which is boiling. There are temps marked for green, white, oolong and black, although you can slide the dial to any point in between.

It doesn''t alert you with a "beep" or anything when the water is ready, but if you are close to it you can hear it heating up and then stopping after a slight "click" sound.

The cord is rather short, but this is not a problem for me and it is one that can be easily solved with an extension cord.

Also, it shipped pretty quickly.

All in all, a great purchase.

I had been using the smarller Britta pitcher(holds 5 glasses). That works wonderfully by the way,just too small for larger families or serious water drinkers. The only complaint with that was the size caused me to have to fill it constanly as I drink a lot of water. So I decided to upgrade. First I purchased the faucet mount filter and was disappointed. The thing moves slower than molassas! I returned that and was going to get a standard pitcher filter setup but decided to go with this one because it was only four dollars more than a pitcher that held ten glasses of water. This provides 18 glasses of the best tasting water ever. I live in an area where our water is reputed to be among the best in the country(at least that what the local officials say) and this only improves on it!! Now I fill this up,put it on a shelf in the fridge and voila,I have great tasting ice cold water at my fingertips. I think this is much more cost effective than buying bottled water. The best part of it all? My kids have now become water drinkers!! It might be because of the easy to use tap,which by the way makes this much more convienant to use as opposed to the pitcher. Although they swear that they drink more water now because it "just tastes better".

I am, so far, very pleased with this sytem. I think it is a wise investment.

No, the title of this review isn''t warning you about making kool-aid in a water purifier. Rather to tell the truth about carbon/charcoal filters. They don''t go bad. I''ve been using this filter for 9 months now filling it up three times a day, but more to the point, I used to work with a large water filtration team in charge of cleaning up an EPA superfund site. They had great big tanks full of sand and carbon to filter out a bunch of little nasties that you and your tap water can''t even imagine. When the flow was restricted they''d just shoot the water back the other way for a bit and then return to normal operation. The carbon (little black sand) in your filter does not go bad, no matter what the manufacturers tell you. That''s how they make their money, by selling you a plastic cup filled with black sand every couple of months. The filter, over a very long period of time, may become clogged. If that happens, take it out, run water over it, turn it upside down, bang it on the counter, I don''t care. Whatever you do, buy another filter only as a last resort.

Let me repeat this. These filtration people are selling you a cheap plastic tub with sand in the top and a nozzle on the bottom. The only high tech thing about this is the electronic filter-alarm doohickey that I''ve never even turned on. Use it until the water just won''t go through it any longer. By that time you''ll probably just want to buy a brand new one.

Edit: I was trying to make as simple a statement as possible about how infrequently you REALLY need to change your filter. The activated charcoal inside the filter can absorb so much more than the company would have you believe. If you use this for a city water source, the only thing you''ll really need it to filter is chlorine. If you begin to taste chlorine in your filtered water, change your filter. I use mine for well water, so all I need is to filter any detritus that may come up from the ground. Therefore, as long as the water flows, I won''t need to change my filter.

I hope this will satisfy the further questions.

This product is markedly inferior to its main competitor, the Pur 2-Stage Dispenser. Specifically, I found two main flaws:

1. The spigot draws water from at least an inch and a half up from the base of the dispenser. As a result, quite a lot of water is left inaccessible for drinking, even after tipping over the dispenser.

2. Even more infuriatingly, the spigot''s connection to the main housing is so poorly designed that it eventually starts to leak water all over the place. The first dispenser I purchased started to leak after 1 week. I dutifully exchanged it for another one, which proceeded to leak after about 2 weeks. It appears that the "O-ring" that connects the spigot to the main housing shrinks when it gets cold. . . a rather fatal flaw for an item intended for use in a refrigerator.

Despite being a lifelong Brita user, I exchanged this product for a Pur 2-stage dispenser. I am now converted and will never go back. The dispenser is rock solid, and the water even tastes better!

With a product of this capacity I expected a better product. The current design had my common sense kick in to simply purchase a sink attachment filter after a few tests over a 90 day period. Well ok, the last 60 some odd days of use, the first thirty I mistakenly trusted the design to perform.

I like brita and filtered water, but I had to throw this out.

Mold, slimes, and a few other items that are hazardous to a persons well being are the main issue. Even with weekly cleaning there was some biological return. The worst was testing the filter after 58 days.

The filter itself contained a plethora of microscopic crawlies. Nothing fatal, but we cultured a bunch of varieties that cause bad breath, stomach, and throat issues. All of which were also found in the ''clean'' water in the well below.

Three kinds of fungi had invaded a previously pristine, chef quality, fridge. All growing from the protected colony in this huge reservoir.

I''d have to recommend a smaller capacity pitcher or in a family sized home a faucet attachment. If you are going to pay for something to give you clean water, you might as well get clean water.

Many of the negative reviews that claim mold problems are actually authored by the same person. After viewing some of his/her reviews of other prodcuts, I noticed another "mold" review for an unrelated product. I think it''s safe to say that the reviewer has issues with mold, and that it''s not a result of the brita filter.

We''ve been using this product for 8+ years with no problems whatsoever. Only drawback (other than price they should give these away for the amount of $$ you''ll spend for filters) is that it''s heavy when full and awkward to fill.

Replaced our old worn out 1hp pump with this one. We used to have so many issues with keeping chemistry in check and algae in our pool. I always suspected that the pump was too small/didn''t move enough water. It was installed when we bought our house. This pump has made a huge differnce. ***This PowerFlo Matrix stopped working after 3 weeks.*** Started to have problems switching it on 3 days before it wouldn''t turn on at all. Went to Hayward''s Web site for warranty repair information and **couldn''t find any** and there is no phone number anywhere to even call them; contacted the "authorized repair" dealer listed on Hayward''s site that was nearest me and they were rude and refused to fix the pump and said, and I quote "what''s in it for me? I don''t get any money for fixing something you bought on the Internet." I contacted another "authorized repair" dealer who said he would fix it, but it''s still sitting in his shop.

I couldn''t even find a phone number to call Hayward anywhere on the instruction manual or on their Web site.

Will try to contact them via their "Contact Us" form and try to send it back for repairs ... and pay for shipping ... and it will take weeks ... and in the meantime I am forced to buy another pump because my pool can''t sit without the water being circulated and filtered.

***UPDATE***: MEA CULPA! I did use the "Contact Us" form to contact Hayward. I was thrilled when I got a response very early the next morning apologizing for the problem and telling me to contact the vendor (I bought the pump via Amazon from In the Swim) and they would immediately ship me a new pump. To both Hayward''s and In the Swim''s credit, that''s exactly what they did. Scott at Hayward provided me with Hayward''s phone number and also cleared the way for In the Swim to ship me a new pump. It is supposed to arrive within 1 to 4 business days. I should have contacted Hayward sooner because it''s possible my pool will have to sit through another weekend with no pump or filtration.

So I upgraded my review from 1 star to 3 stars; the pump was absolutely fantastic while it worked but it should not have broken down after only three weeks of use. I hope the replacement pump lasts me for the years that my previous Hayward pumps have. But I have to say that the customer service I received from Hayward, once I contacted them via their Web form, was superlative, as was In the Swim''s.

***UPDATE APRIL 2012***: I received the replacement pump in ONE day. Installed it, it ran all summer (through October 2011) flawlessly, circulated the water through my filtration system much better than the old, overpowered pump, pool was cleaner and filter cartridge MUCH dirtier (good thing). Will be opening my pool in a month, expect the pump will continue to work. Looks like I got a lemon the first time around ...

***UPDATE JUNE 2012***: Opened my pool 1-1/2 weeks before Memorial Day. Pump has performed flawlessly after being stored in shed/poolhouse over mild winter. At this point I believe the quality is still good Hayward quality, but that quality control has suffered in recent years (as it has pretty much everywhere). Based on the easy and speedy exchange of the initial "lemon" I received, the great performance I''ve had since, and the pricing for the features and performance, I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PUMP. When the time comes that it breaks down, I''ll report that here.

I was looking for a purifier that would take the nasty taste from our water but leave the minerals. This arrived quickly and undamaged. It was pretty easy to set up (I did watch youtube quick videos on the set up just to be sure I did it right). The spout leaked after the first batch but it was due to my not tightening it enough (used brother for more muscle). The container is very nice and seemed to be well made, but the black Berkey filters are a different story. I was really disappointed with the filters. While the filters did filter a lot of the red food coloring out. There was still a very pale color that got through meaning you would still have to treat the water. For the price of the Berkey I decided that it was kind of high for something to just filter debris out of the water and then still have to treat it. You can make your own filter much cheaper. Just check out the YouTube videos to find the info.

This is review of "Dow Filmtec Residential RO Membrane". While it should work as described, DO NOT USE on Watts Premier WP systems (i.e. WP-4V, WP-4, WP-5). The WP systems are the one-piece manifold systems from Watts Premier.

This does not have the built-in Check Valve or Brine Seal inside the white plastic tube of the RO Membrane. Without this Check Valve or Brine Seal, water from the reservoir tank (when full) will back flow to the RO membrane and damage it, and waste water.

This back flow or reverse flow will happen when your reservoir tank gets full. So basically, you will be wasting water as the water trickle will not stop. When I tested it, water continued to trickle out of the reject water outlet tube even when my reservoir tank is full already (it should stop when reserve tank is full). The water coming out is at a much slower rate though, but still plenty enough to raise your water bill since the water trickle will continue 24 hours a day.

After 4 years the membrane in my RO need to be replaced (3 5 years, according to the manufacturer). The RO in my home was purchased at Lowe in 2002, and still working good.

I was browsing Amazon.com and I was surprised to see that they have RO membrance for about $10 less than my local home centers. After reading several reviews to make sure it fit into mine, I ordered it.

The membrane arrived a week later, I went ahead and replaced the membrane along with 3 other filters, sediment, pre carbon, and post carbon. The process took me about one hour, and I was carefull with all the tubing and fittings.

After putting everything back together, I turned on the water, and checked for leak. No leak after several weeks.

Ceramic Undercounter Water Filter With Doulton Ultracarb Cartridge Save 52% Off

I purchased this after researching the different types of water filters out there. Our water was just tested by the EWG and found to contain chromium hexavalent (sigh). I really wanted a filter that could remove this contaminant, but the only ones that are effective in doing so are reverse osmosis systems. I am not comfortable with RO systems because they use (read waste) 5 gallons of water to produce one clean gallon of water. The rest of the water goes down the drain! I find that simply unconscionable here in CA where we are suffering from a drought. Also, the RO systems remove essential minerals -the water is pretty much "dead."

With this system, I get the heavy metals, chloramines, cysts and such removed. The water tastes great, it was simple to install and I like the fact that the Doulton ceramic filter can be cleaned and reused 35 times. A great value.

My only regret is that I didn''t buy the two-stage system with the additional flouride filter. My daughter''s teeth are showing signs of flourosis and I would like to remove it from the water as well. I am hoping that our water company will follow the CDC''s new recommendations and lower the flouride levels in the water. If not, I''ll be investing in the second stage sometime in the future.

Got the item quickly. Installed the following weekend without any problems. All necessary connectors were already included. The faucet I got was even better than the one in the picture (the spout was stainless steel or plastic looking like it). The only cons is that the plastic handle in the back is somewhat stiffer than I would prefer. Water tastes significantly better than what you get from the tap.

The Doulton candles work great! I ended up buying two of them. But the housing is shoddy and leaks. I had two leaks, one at the final faucet metal to plastic connector from the output hose, and the second at the output hose from the white housing shell. I was getting up to two quarts a day of leaks.

In a number of email correspondence with Crystal Springs I was told to 1) Go ask someone at Home Depot for help (they tried to get me to putrchase extremely toxic pipe glue to solve my water filter problems!), 2) that some replacement parts were available, and then 3) that I must have damaged the unit myself, which was not true. With a 30 day replacement policy make sure you install this immediately after you get it! I was doing other work in the kitchen and waited a good 45 days from delivery to installation. What a waste of time (and water!) I ended up resolving the issue myself by using the Doulton ceramic candles in an old housing I had left over from my counter-top filter. It now works with no leaks but it''s not under the counter.

Maybe if you order direct from Doulton you would get better customer support, but don''t expect much from Crystal Springs. They defer to the experts at Home Depot.
