After connecting this unit I found that an increase in water pressure caused the unit to pop off at the threads. I''m not talking about a lot of pressure here either. It appears that the orifice used to channel the water up thru the filter is too small which in turn builds up a lot of back pressure. Also the few times that I got it to work, I had to slooowly run the water. This is a really bad design. The last unit I had was a Teledyne and worked great, I just couldn''t find filters for it. I guess I''ll buy the one from Pur and see what happens.

Follow-up: turned out the unit came with a clogged filter cartridge. Unfortunaely I found this out after buying another brand.

and it will work great. Call them and they will send them to you for free. They send a full set of metal parts that should work with most faucets -I have successfully used them with different faucets in two apartments, and my current faucet is very old, but I was able to find an adapter in the set that works. The metal connectors solve the problems with water pressure, and are more durable. Do it before you mess up the base by tearing up the threads trying to get it on tight enough.

We bought this to replace the Pur Flavor Options filter when it bit the dust (leaking and spraying and impossible to install properly) after a year of use. The first thing my husband told me when he installed it is that it''s held together by plastic threaded pieces and you can''t overtighten it or it will pop the threads and fall apart. He was very unimpressed. Well, within two or three days of installing it, I accidentally bumped the filter while swinging the faucet from one side of our double-sink to the other. Sure enough, just that small movement loosened the threads and now we can no longer tighten them down enough to make a good seal. Water sprays out of the top of the unit (and onto us and the counters) every time we turn it on, whether for filtered or unfiltered water. The knob to switch between Brita water and tap water is also more difficult to turn than I think it should be. It feels awkward and I''m always afraid that just the movement of turning that knob is going to loosen the filtration unit even more. As soon as we can find the receipt, this thing is going back to Lowes. I''ve always loved Brita products but this is a big disappointment.

When the office I work at bought one of these machines, I figured that this would be my chance to find out just how well this machine worked without having any personal finances in play. Let''s face it, these machines are an investment. This machine was so much fun to use, just about everyone in the office jumped on board and bought some version of the K-Cup system. I was more interested in this particular model. So, I watched and waited.

Pretty soon, just like other users, the office Cuisinart ran into problems. A K-Cup would be put in the machine, the Brew button would be pressed, the machine would make sounds as if it was trying to brew, some liquid may start dripping into the cup below, but then nothing. This same problem happened to one of the co-workers who had bought this Cuisinart model for their home. The manual was referred to, troubleshooting ensued, tinkering occurred, but nothing seemed to work. One of the home Cuisinarts ended up going back to the store to be exchanged. An inquisitive co-worker at the office, however, took a straightened paper clip and started poking around. After a number of "pokes" with the paper clip in the part of the machine that is sharp and hollow that pokes into the K-Cup, the office Cuisinart was back in working order. The co-worker who had replaced their machine at home, again, ran into the same problem. The Cuisinart stopped working. Using a paper clip to clear the same part, the home machine was returned to working order.

*** I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU LOOK AT THE K-CUPS THEMSELVES ***

While this may not apply to everyone who is running into problems with this Cuisinart model, this may help some of you, thanks to that same paper clip wielding co-worker. And if anything, it may help if you end up purchasing this machine by avoiding one of the problems that may be plaguing others. In my case, the K-Cups come from a lower elevation than where I reside, so there is a LOT of pressure in the K-Cups. Prior to putting the K-Cup in the machine, we poke the cover of the K-Cup. I favor right in the middle where the Cuisinart machine will eventually poke the K-Cup to reduce the chance of grounds escaping through another hole under forced pressure and mucking up your expensive machine. Make sure to gently press the lid/foil of the K-Cup down to force out the excessive air. Then you use the machine just as you regularly would. Since coming across this realization and releasing the pressure in the K-Cups, the office Cuisinart machine and the various co-workers with their home Cuisinart machines have reported no more issues. Including myself. I bought one of these machines after running this field test of almost five months. I figure if I try and keep any K-Cups contents from being forced into the machine through the entry needle (the sharp hollow point) in the first place, hopefully, I won''t have clogging problems down the line. This may also keep random grounds from ending up in your cup. I''m not sure about the inner workings of this particular machine, so who knows how far interloping K-Cup contents can travel in this machine and what problems they or eventual build-up can actually lead to, but at least for me...so far, so good!

I''m not sure if this is a fad and will eventually go the way of the 8-Track tape, but at least for me...it works and works well for just what I need.

This coffee maker makes a great cup of coffee! I have increased my coffee consumption beyond just initial wake up and breakfast. It was kinda hard to justify the price at first, but with family encouraging me, I purchased this model from Bed Bath & Beyond with a 20% off coupon.

There was a small learning curve and adjustment to make, but it was worth it. I have many 14 and 16 oz mugs from around the world and have become used to drinking a couple of 14 oz cups each morning. However I quickly learned that even the 12 oz setting with the K-cup caused the coffee to be too weak for my taste. I settled on using the 8 oz and 10 oz settings, depending on the coffee used. The increase in flavor, taste and consistency over even the best of pot brewed coffee more than made up for the decrease in amount.

The price of the K-cups are too expensive to continue using them at the rate of 6 to 10 a day, every day, and my personal favorite coffees are not available in K-cups anyway. A a result, I use the included "make your own" filter most of the time and make my favorite coffees. This setup works great and has very consistent flavor. I have ordered the Solo-cup and EZ cup and will try them when they arrive.

My wife noted that I don''t just stand at the coffeemaker waiting on the coffee anymore. It is fast and convenient and every cup is fresh and hot like that first cup from a brewer. I can''t go back to the old way. I am glad my family urged me to get it.

I cannot believe how good this product is in combination with Keurig''s K-cup system. We''ve owned the Bosch Tassimo and loved that for the last year until we couldn''t get the descale light to go away, plus the selection was quite limited to Starbucks and Gevalia. Both good brews (not great), but in comparison to the variety of the K-cup system they look and taste paltry in comparison. Caribou Coffee is a mirror image (tastewise) of what you buy in stores and the Donut Shop blend from the Coffee People is incredible as well. For a bigger kick Emeril''s Bold and Easy is fantastic, or you can brew your own blend of whatever you like in the reusable cup which Cuisinart nailed. Coarse ground coffees fresh from Dunkin Donuts come out very weak and are not advisable, but their Turbo Hot blend sold in grocery stores brews FANTASTIC as it has a finer grind. I think you can re-grind coarse coffee in a burr grinder to get a deeper brew.

Again, if you love coffee and you love the idea of the single brew system then this Cuisinart is for you. It''s a solid machine that brews a very impressive cup of joe from a variety of vendors.

After agonizing about this purchase for a long time I finally bit the bullet and bought one. I have been through many coffee makers for various reasons, including due to wasting coffee, taking up counter space for something only I used, and just overall being a PITA. Hands down this is the best money we have invested in a kitchen appliance in many many years. The convenience of this thing cannot be beat and I am LOVING the savings over the craving to jet off in the car for a Starbucks when the mood for a coffee strikes. I have my AM/PM coffee in less than two minutes with no mess and no tossing half or more of a carafe.

Now, as the only coffee drinker in the house, this appliance makes even MORE sense to buy. My kids have loved making hot cocoa and now can do so on their own. My wife can enjoy hot tea or a chai. Instant hot water when needed. This thing can be enjoyed by everyone in our house. It''s even better for guests since everyone can have the flavor they want. Decaf? Got it. Bold? Got it. Tea? Got it. Cocoa? Sure! Hazelnut coffee? Done. Vanilla? Got that. Chai? Got that too. How can you argue? Plus, this thing is insanely quiet. Even making coffee at 3AM is super quiet (everything is louder at 3am) I am a sporadic coffee drinker and like to have some joe when the mood strikes, and this machine lets me be completely spontaneous with zero mess and even less hassle.

I do plan on being a bit more efficient with my own brew and utilize the "my K-cup" for my own grounds most of the time. But I have a hard time thinking of another kitchen appliance that can be so much fun for the entire family. My 11 year old even said she wants one when she goes to college! LOL! Awesome.

Reasons I picked this Cuisinart over the Keurig:

1. A bit shorter and it fits better under the counter.

2. I like the rinse button. Yes, I know the same thing can be done on the Keuig by doing a small brew with no K cup.

3. Built like a tank.

4. Built in water filter.

5. Biggest water tank of all models.

6. 3 Year warranty.

7. Built in storage for the reusable k-cup.

I am being realistic here and have paid attention to ALL of the negative comments on these things. I read them ALL for this model and the Keurig models. Seems a few very simple things can keep them running well and I plan on doing the following as a "each use" habit and/or routine maintenance:

1. Relieve the pressure in "poofy" k-cups by poking a small hole in the BOTTOM before inserting and closing the top. I have read in many places that this prevents dry grounds from "poofing" up into the lines when the top needle pierces the foil, and doing so ELIMINATED a lot of problems for folks.

2. Don''t let the tank run dry of water. Keep it topped off.

3. Run a rinse periodically.

4. Periodically check and clean the lower needle. (this is spelled out in the manual.)

5. Treat the unit as an expensive investment which it is.

We are also lucky that where we live hard water is not an issue, and I think the quality of water in a persons area has a lot to do with how well these (or any) coffee makers will perform long-term.

Overall we are VERY happy.

This is my third k-cup brewer. The 5 cup selection is the best! Using the 4 Oz iced settings makes very good espresso to my taste. If it were possible I would rate this as a 10 star review. My bride of 49 years like her tea strong and the 6 Oz is just right. As we are both retired we set the auto on to 07:00 and off at 22:00 (10:00 PM). We consume about 80 Oz of coffee/tea daily and the reservoir of 80 Oz only requres a daily filling most days. Crusinart got this one right even better than their grind & brew makers.

I bought one of these and then bought 3 more to be safe because the first one broke, in my opinion, way too easily!

The cap on my water filter is on tight. Very tight. I didn''t know at that time that buy being very liberal with vasoline on the threads of the filter cap, makes the cap go on easier, come off easier and it makes for a nice seal on the filter housing.

So, the cap was on pretty tight and i did have to use some muscle to get it off, but i did NOT expect that this thing would crack in the front. Not the handle, but the rounded side. So i had to order a few more before i could change my filter.

My second one has held up better than the first. I''ve had several filter changes and it''s not broke yet. I do have 2 more in reserve though, just in case.

I give this 4 stars for durability vs. 5 starts because of how easily that first one broke.

I have and would, buy this again.

This is the third coffee maker I have bought within a year. The first one was a Mr. Coffee which was horrible. Then I got a Sunbeam which, when I unpacked it, looked exactly like the Mr. Coffee except with a different name. I checked with Mr. Google and sure enough they are the same company. It lasted about three weeks before burning out. Consumer Reports recommended this one, so I decided to spend a little more and get a good one.

It looks great and works great. I do have a problem pouring the water into the tank the tank opening is really not big enough and water was getting all over everything. I solved that probem by using a funnel to direct the water. This would have received 5 stars if not for the water problem.

Our coffee maker died unexpectedly so I needed a good one quick. Did a quick search with Consumer Reports and they had Kalorik (never had one of those before) model that was highly rated. After searching Amazon.com, I found it a great price.

It makes a great pot of coffee relatively fast. Only cons would be there is no beep when it is done, and it is tricky to fill.

Kalorik CM25282SS Stainless-Steel Programmable 12-Cup CoffeemakerI did a quick bit of research on Consumer Reports and found this coffeemaker did receive a good recommendation. I had the carafe handle separate from the actual carafe the 3rd time I filled it up to capacity. The weight of the water caused the handle to break free over the top lip of the carafe. It was a bet of work, but after a phone call and a little email work Kalorik did provide me with a new carafe and they were quite prompt in sending a new one.

My second complaint is there is a continuing plastic smell coming from the internals upon opening the top lid to pour in the water. I thought it might just be me, but I have had several other friend "sniff" my coffeemaker and agree. It has not impacted the taste of the coffee, but the odor continues after 30 plus pots full of coffee.

I am fine with the coffeemaker, but I would probably look at another model if purchasing again.

I have owned many brands (Mr. Coffee, Cuisinart, BlacknDecker, Sunbeam)and still dream of the perfect machine. I did not notice a plastic taste or smell from the machine on the one delivered to me, and with my (sometimes unfortunate) acute sense of smell, I would have noticed. I did not have a "white film" in my cup, in the pot, or anywhere else. I have used it for four days now. The coffee temperature is not scalding hot, and what I consider to be the perfect temperature out of the caraffe. The coffee is very good, and especially good if using a "coffee snob" freshly ground batch. HOWEVER!!! It is a bit difficult to put the caraffe INTO the unit. The lever that constricts the drip while you pour the coffee while it is still brewing makes it difficult to put the carrafe back into the unit. It removes easily enough, but, it''s a small fight to return it back to the unit. The whole unit moves sometimes before we can work the pot back into the unit, sometimes making it a two handed operation. We are hoping that the lever will loosen with time making the pot easier to place back in, but for now we are willing to keep the coffeemaker.

I am very diasppointed in this product. I ordered it because it was supposed to be a pretty good machine. After running straight water through it 20 30 times, (way more than the recommended 2-3 times)there is still a white filmy substance that comes out of the coffee maker. Because of this I have sent it back so I can''t say what the coffee would actually taste like. There was no way I would consume something from this after seeing whatever that was come out of it. There was also a problem with the pause and serve feature. The spring that stops the coffee flow so you could pour while coffee is brewing just didn''t sit right making it difficult to replace the carafe correctly. I can only imagine the messes this could lead to and did not want to deal with that.

I have had this machine for 2 years now and it is one problem after another. Just about everyone I know that has one has constant trouble as well. So, we trade solutions so we don''t have to buy another machine since this one is not cheap. I would never buy this model again. Save yourself the stress and look at another machine, so tired of trying to fix it so I can get a cup of coffee. I also have the Tassimo by Bosch, coffee is way better and I have never had a problem with it. The only draw back to the Tassimo is they do not have much of a selection of coffees to choose from.

Let me set some background on myself first. I am a long time tea drinker and was raised in a country where you drank tea all the time. I consume approximately 4 to 6 cups per day. So you could say I know and enjoy my tea :)

With that said nothing annoys and frustrates me more than the taste of a tea being polluted or ruined by the introduction of foreign flavors. I have owned a number of plastic kettles most of which I am sure based on their age contained BPA and even if they didn''t often time gave a strange odor or flavor to the tea. I have also had some great stainless pots but recently (past couple of years) had to revert back to the plastic again.

I decided at Christmas 2010 that I wanted to finally get away from these and was originally looking for an all in one solution. You can imagine my delight when I saw the Breville One Touch Tea Maker and jumped at the chance of this. Long story short I got through 3 of them, the first 1 didn''t work, the second and third however had a strange odor that seemed to come from the brewing basket lid. I was really frustrated that this didn''t work out, especially with so may other great reviews of the product and the cost.

So, gave up with the all in one and went back on the search for a BPA free and ideally plastic free unit. I looked at the Hamilton Beach stainless and about every other kettle Amazon and others had including the Pino (which is the one I was going to go for). The problem was the BPA identification was either non existent or a guess even by the manufacturer !!! This blew my mind.

I found two Toastess models (1 being this one and the other being DLJK-459) and started the research here. I went for this one as the other Toastess (DLJK-459) had a plastic water window which I wanted to stay away from. I learned that the carafe on the TGK496 (this unit) was glass (in fact the same duran glass as used in the Breville carafe) had a stainless steel heating plate and absolutely no plastic touching the water when boiling. To confirm, the handle attaches on the outside of the carafe so no plastic touching there, the water marks are on the handle (on the outside) so again no BPA leaching viewing windows/water guages as used in other products. The only two pieces of plastic that exist in any proximity of the water are the lid (I know why can''t they just get rid of this and replace with Stainless steel and cool touch top etc !!) and the water filter by the spout (this can be removed if you wish). I took this one step further and looked into the lid components (just in case there were concerns about condensed water dripping back) and can report that the lid is made of Plastic #5 (PP polypropylene) which according to many health related websites poses no risks (who knows what time will show here).

So I finally found BPA free and as close to plastic free as I could and I have to say I love this kettle. Simple but great unit with a 1.7 capacity which is awesome when you have multiple tea drinkers in the house and want to fill a brown betty pot. Glass gets warm so watch out for that and power switch seems a little flimsy but those are the only small gripes.

If there was one thing I would want from this kettle and while I''m at it a please to all kettle manufacturers is to remove the plastic completely whether its touching water directly (crazy in this day and age) or from a condensing perspective, get it out of there !

Very nice looking and works as advertised as long as you do not remove the plastic filter! It does not give off any taste or odor.

The filter is NOT mean to be removed!!! If you do remove the filter, the kettle will not shut off automatically.

From Toastess Customer Service:

"The automatic shut-off feature is triggered by the accumulation of moisture by the filter,

which should be installed on the lid so that it rests by the spout when the lid is closed."

I like using this kettle but would prefer that it be all glass including the top or if not glass then stainless steel.

All the plastic parts including the filter are made from polypropylene plastic Relatively safe but I would prefer no plastic at all.

I''ve been using these water boilers for a few years and most of them have a few of the same problems. This boiler has no problems!

Pros:

-The kettle is large

-it boils fast

-the bottom is flat

-the sides are schott glass(german pyrex)

-The lid is simple open and shut with no locks to break

-The opening is large enough to get my man hands in and clean it

I use this to boil water, heat soup quickly, boil eggs, make chai. Basically if I want anything to come to a boil quickly this is my goto appliance.

I just bought this pot and I LOVE it!!! It boils water in record time and it looks really nice on the counter. Your hand can easily get inside to clean it if you need to, and it''s easy to fill with water. The heating element doesn''t touch the water, and there''s nothing to corrode or rust.

The manufacturer says that the minimum amount you should boil is two cups. I only need one cup boiled at a time for my tea. I have to carry my water in from another source because I live on the ocean, and while we can bathe in our household water and wash clothes, we do not drink it. Therefore, I cannot waste water at all. I wondered about the "two cups -one cup" thing. Then I read in another review that the reason the manufacturer recommends two cups is so that enough steam rises when the water boils to trigger the shut-off mechanism in the lid. So it''s not that you CAN''T boil just one cup or that it will somehow ruin the pot, it''s just that you might not be able to rely on the shut-off mechanism if you do. Well that''s no problem at all! With that knowledge in mind, I just put exactly one cup into the pot and plug it in. You know how they say that "a watched pot never boils"? Well they never saw THIS pot! You can easily stand there and manually shut it off (if you want to boil only one cup like me) because it boils UNBELIEVABLY fast. Makes a microwave look like a dinosaur! So I just boil my one cup -almost instantly -and then shut it off and make my tea. If you''re going to do it like this, don''t walk away because the water boils incredibly fast. Just be conscientious.

So far, so good. I love this pot!!

I know some people have had success with this kettle, and I''m glad for them. Personally, I''ve had no luck with it. Like other reviewers, I find this has a faulty on/off switch. I''ve had this kettle for two months. It works well as far as heating water quickly goes...however, it no longer turns off. At all. It doesn''t matter if the water is boiling, if I try turning it off manually, nothing. What makes it even worse is that coincidentally, the handle gets super hot now as well. So unless I stand around and watch and take it off the stand as soon as the water gets hot, I will have to grab it by the superheated handle. Not good, actually dangerous. BISSELL 1867 Steam Mop Bare Floor Steam Cleaner

I admit it I finally bought something because I saw it on an infomercial and all I can say is that I am very impressed!! I have 2 dogs, a husband that works in the oilfield, me the messy cook, and I live in sandy red dirt west Texas. This thing can really handle it all. I also like how the mop pad also goes over my 1/4 round on the baseboards and gets them too.In addition I love that I don''t have to immediatly leave the area after I have mopped because the fumes from the chemicals are so strong... as my experience was when I tried the swiffer wetjet. I had debated as to whether to get this with the Bissell CatchAll or to get the Hoover Floormate and so far I am very happy with th choice I have made.

One hint I found out when using this product that is not mentioned in the instructions is that it works best when you pull it backwards instead of forwards.( like I do when using my hoover steamvac widepath) I noticed when I was pushing forwards all the steam seamed to be coming out the back of the mop head and when I pulled it backwards all the steam went apparantly on the floor because I barely saw it coming out but I could certainly see the difference. After using this product I really can say that my floor is clean. not only does it look clean , but I know that the steam is killing bacteria and I can believe it or not , breathe better. I dont know if this is because it is like being around a vaporizer or because it is killing bacteria and dustmites but it does.

WHen all of these new and improved moppping gadgets hit the market I had been hopfull because hey, I admit I hate mopping. After mopping while the floor was still wet it never failed that either my dogs or my husband when just walk on it and get it dirty again.So I tried the swiffer wetjet and was not impressed because of the strong smell of the cleaner, having to buy cleaner and pads all the time, did not get ground in stuff very well, and Knowing that I was only degreasing and not disinfecting the floor. This steam mop is cost effeciant because I don''t have to keep buying cleaner or pads. It is reccomened to use distilled water to maximize the use of the water filter but 1$ /gallon compared to $3/liter isn''t bad and I may end up getting one of those pur things to not have to do even that. I honestly recommend this product and hope that this may help someone considering buying it!

I love a clean floor, but I hate mopping so much that I put it off and put it off. Kitchen floors in a busy household should be mopped AT LEAST once a week, but wringing a heavy wet mop and dealing with all that dirty water yuck. So when I saw this, I thought that if it lived up to its billing, it would be the answer to my prayers. (By the way the swiffer doesn''t get the floor clean at all to my satisfaction, costs too much and leaves unwanted chemicals smeared around)

After trying this I can say that yes, it really does get the floor clean not as clean as if I had scrubbed on my hands and knees but much cleaner than a quickie mop job. And no wringing, no rinsing, no dirty bucket of water. Just one pass and I''m done. It works on both linoleum and ceramic tile/grout and fits around the back of the toilet.I am also pleased with the slim profile which makes it easy to store.

A few tips: to get the floor clean you have to go SLOW. REALLY SLOW. But one pass done this way over each area is enough. Also, it won''t take black shoe scuffs up. And as you go the mop cover gets saturated, leaving the last area mopped pretty wet. And to extend the life of the filter, the instructions say you should use distilled water an additional expense.

But the upshot is that I cheerfully mop my kitchen and bathrooms twice a week now. I have been for months. Its amazing. This machine has solved one of life''s true miseries (for me anyway).

with a household of 6, we see some serious dirt! we have ceramic tiling in most of our downstairs and it gets filthy! with young children we have big messes-and i HATE to mop, but i do have to clean it, eventually. i saved one of those eventual times for when i received my steam mop-just to see how well it would do. i am totally impressed!! this thing got up stuck on dried food-dirt-everything! and yes even more so then a reg mop. usually i have to scrub on hands and knees to get most anything stuck on, but with this i just steamed over a stuck on spot for a few secs and it came right up! just for an example-we have a dried baby cereal spot that has been there for months-that stuff is like concrete and nothing will take it up! i have tried soaking, scrubbing, scraping-all to no avail! then i held the steam mop over it for about 15 secs and most of it came up! the only thing i would recommend is getting the replacement pads when you buy it. they will get saturated with water-which is ok-it just takes longer to dry, and for the area i mopped -i really needed to change it for each room. i love the fact that when i take the pads off when i am finished that they are almost too hot too touch! boy do we feel clean! hope this helps anyone thinking about buying one of these!

I saw an infomercial on TV and thought I would give the Steam Mop a try. I have tile and hardwood floors in my house that are constantly dirty from my 2 kids and dog. After using it a couple of times I am very satisfied. It only takes about 30 seconds to heat up the water, and I can control the amount of steam I put down with the trigger. The mop pads do a good job at cleaning and drying the floor, and you can throw them right into the washing machine. The Steam Mop is a nice alternative to the traditional mop and bucket. I almost talked my wife into getting one of those Swiffer Wet Jets but after reading the countless reviews on Amazon about how horrible Swiffer products are, I decided to check out this Bissell Steam Mop.

We have hardwood floors and tile throughout our house and they definitely needed a good mopping. Wow did this mop do the trick! On one small tank of water, I mopped half the house. And it wasn''t slow at all as one reviewer suggested. Perhaps the difference is that I kept a steady stream of steam going.

In any case, I love this product. The pads are reusable and the only replacement part seems to be the filter.

The only reason I didn''t give it five stars is because the pad gets really dirty really quickly. If it came with two more pads, in addition to the two it comes with, you could switch out pads regularly and be sure you''re mopping up the dirt and not spreading it around. So if you''re going to buy this, buy two more pads.

Straw Cleaning Brush - for reusable straws

Does what it says very, very well. However this is the same exact brush you can buy at your local dollar store. I realized this as soon as I opened the box. The packaging was all in Chinese with little drawings of how to use the brush....very dollar store-esque.

Anyhow. The brush works....I guess I was expecting some officially sanctioned starbucks product for $10. My fault.

In conclusion.....check your local dollar store first....chances are they have the same exact item...for nine dollars less.

I have a two year old that loves smoothies and collects cups with straws from restaurants, zoo, etc. This cleaner has fit and worked on every straw we have. It''s been great! The bristle section is a little short so on some of the longer straws I have had to clean from both ends but that hasn''t been a big deal.

Rainbow Canister Bagless Pet SE PE PN2 Vacuum Cleaner

Our rainbow has been passed on from our parents to me and my brother. Our vaccum is over 12 years old and we have never had to replace a single part for it, nothing has even broken and it works just as good as it did the day we bought it. Our whole family has really bad allergies and we have a dog, I vaccum the whole house every few days and our allergies arent an issue anymore at home! It never ceases to amaze me how much dog hair and dirt I can get out of the furniture and carpet with this product, its simply amazing! We use the pine scent when we vaccum and the house smells good for about a day. It is irritating to have to find a place to dump all the gunk it picks up (it will kill the grass where you empty it be careful) but its worth it to keep my house clean. I would rather empty this vaccum out everyday for the rest of my life than even consider using a different vaccum.

I owned a Rainbow in the 70s when they first came out. It had fantastic suction and I cleaned with it all the time and I cleaned everything I could possibly vacuum, including curtains and blinds and baseboard heating.

When the motor started losing suction after about 10 years, I had the motor replaced. It lasted nearly another 10 years.

I''ve had many vacuums since then, both canister and uprights. I resisted buying another Rainbow due to cost. But now, with a larger house, more animals, and more allergies I once again bought a Rainbow.

The suction is great and the ability to keep the dust in the water and not blowing into the air is a plus for allergy sufferers.

My problem now is that I didn''t realize how really heavy it is. I now have fibromyalgia and I just can''t pick up nor maneuver a heavy vacuum anymore. The power nozzle can''t be adjusted so it''s too powerful a suction for me to push around the rugs. I have an upstairs to vacuum now and carrying it up there is torture for my muscles.

I''m sorry that I can''t use a Rainbow anymore, but if you''re strong or have a business to use it for, then it''ll do a fantastic job of cleaning. It has one of the best dusting brushes out there. It has a very long hose. But it''s cumbersome and too heavy if you have physical issues.

years, but the manufacturer has not made any improvements. For those

of you who are replacing their old Rainbow , read on.

1. The water container at the bottom of the unit will

fall off ,the flimsy plastic wheeled base , whenever

you try to pick it up by the handle.The wheel base is

only a friction fit..no clamps.

2. The motor assembly clamps to the water container

securely , but the gaskets will not keep the water

from sloshing out.

4. The hose on the upright motor/assembly (the part you

use to vacuum the floors with ) is too short .

5. The holder for the accessories is a very flimsy

plastic ring , that sits over the main motor and

has the tabs to wind the cord around. No retractor

for the cord. This ring will defy gravity , fall off

and spill all the accessories to the most difficult

places in your house. Most will opt for removing this

ring before using the vacuum , but that means

unwinding the cord first.

6. Last and not least is cleaning this thing after use.

All the dirt is now a muck inside the water container.

The top of the container has a curved top to keep

water out of the motor assembly . It is also

permanently attached the container. To clean it I do

the following : Unclamp the container from the motor.

Take the container outside to the

garden hose.Invert the container and

hose it out. Doing this in the house

would clog the drain ...instantly.

Next you need to dry the container ,

storing it wet is not good for the

motor. Also, there is an basket that

must be removed from the bottom of the

motor and cleaned with a small bush

and lots of 409.

7. $ 475.00 is real real bargain for $1600.00 worth of

aggravation. But why put up with it , just to clean a

floor ?

I received a used Rainbow SE PE PN2 from GreatVacs which has a PN2 power nozzle but the main body (marked with model D4C) was manufactured in 1991. That means this product has been 20 years old. When I argued about this issue, the seller told me it is SE model with PN2 nozzle, so from the functional viewpoint, it is indeed a Rainbow SE PE PN2. What can I say about that? So if you decide to purchase a used Rainbow SE PE PN2, it is better to ask the seller about more details, for example, the serial number and manufacture number (or date) so that you can determine how old it is. You may find the way of serial number and manufacture number being mapped to the model and manufactured date. I hope this information is useful for you purchase.

KRUPS FL700D50 Electric Kettle Save 46% Off

The tea kettle works great. I don''t use the infuser, though i tried it once and it worked fine. i use it as a water heater with different heat settings.

Now for the reason it is not a five star.

the heat settings listed don''t match my 2 test thermometers. I wanted a 165 setting that the product doesn''t have.

I found that mine actually has one, because all the settings except boil are about 10 degrees lower than the listed temperature, so if i want 165 degree, i set it at 175 and so on.

so, for me it works, just, if you get this product check the temperatures.

Just so you know, i purchased this about a week ago. I do use it about 4 or 5 times a day

I emailed Krups and they said that the plastic infuser for this product is BPA free, but i do wish it was glass or metal instead.

Works great.. only thing that could make it better is a noise to let you know its done heating up.

The Breville model similar to this one has a feature where you can heat in 5 deg increments and a timer to start boiling water for people who want their tea before work etc...and i believe this informs you when its done heating.. but for $230 for the Breville model the Krups is a cheaper alternative.

Krups has done a great job with this tea kettle! This item makes a perfect cup of tea! I was not so sure about purchasing it since it is a new item and hadn''t been reviewed before. It arrived in just two days and I used it immediately. It is very simple to use. So simple that you wonder why it cost $100. But really, that''s a good thing. You are definitely paying for the quality and it is very well constructed. I wasn''t sure if the infuser basket was glass or plastic. Turned out it is plastic. The directions talked about a plastic taste that you may experience at first use, but I heated and disposed of two kettles of water with the infuser lowered prior to actually brewing tea and I experienced no plastic taste at all. I would hope that Krups would have made the infuser BPA free, but I can''t find any evidence either way. The water heats quickly and the multi-temperature function is great for brewing various types of teas. Also, once you brew, the pour spout has a fine mesh screen that will prevent any loose tea debris from escaping into your tea cup. I brew a lot of rooibos tea which is very fine and some of the tea does escape the infuser. The other good thing is that it has a double infuser (a basket that the actual infuser sits in) which allows you to place other items that can use a longer brewing time into the basket prior to lowering the tea infuser. For me, I like to add a little fresh ginger into the basket. Clean up is very easy as well. Only thing is, I would have loved to see some intermediate measurements on the carafe in addition to the max fill line. All in all I''ve been enjoying this product and would definitely recommend it. It''s all a tea lover would ever need to brew a great cup of tea!

Pros:

Very attractive and functional kettle. I especially like the hold temperature setting that keeps the water at the selected temp for an hour great for grabbing that last-minute coffee before heading out the door in the morning. The glass kettle is sturdy and the spout pours well.

Cons:

The base unit quit working after less than six months. Luckily I had registered the product with Krups and they were able to look up my purchase and issue an RMA over the phone without a receipt. They also sent me a pre-paid shipping label to send the kettle to a local authorized repair station. I''m sending it out today for repair/replacement. Hopefully this malfunction is random and not indicative of a design flaw.

UPDATE:

After owning this kettle for six months (including the month or so it was being repaired) the joint where the plastic spout attaches to the glass has begun to leak, which results in a teaspoon of water dribbling onto the counter each time I pour a cup. I hesitate to send it back in for repair because it is twice as fast compared to heating water in the microwave. I will post an update about my experience with customer service in the event I do decide to send it in for repair again!

BUNN MC MyCafe Single Serve Pod Brewer

I recently purchased this brewer and I am still amazed at how quick and easy it is to use. It is small and sleek enough to keep on my kitchen counter, and it''s been a conversation piece! Everyone wants to see how it works and falls in love with it. It is very quiet, fast, and brews a really great cup of coffee. It''s amazing how this small and simple machine can extract so much flavour from the pods. Another aspect that I love is that it is almost instant hot water for tea, hot chocolate, or soup. The amount of water you put in is pretty much the same amount that comes out (slightly less). There is enough room to fit a travel mug or a taller mug if need be the bottom drip tray comes right out.

It''s also very clean. There are no wet filters to touch, no wet coffee grounds, and the pods are compostable! You just pull out the pod drawer and can dump it right into your green bin. Voila! Ready for another cup!

I STRONGLY recommend this machine to anyone who likes new toys, hot beverages, and great quality. It really is such a simple yet amazing machine.

I purchased mine from Reunion Island (reunionislandcoffee.com) before it was available on Amazon, and they included about a dozen pods (including a couple of tea samples) from various companies.

I''ve only had this machine for 3 or 4 days now, but I wouldn''t trade it for anything. I''ve always hated throwing away pots of coffee from my Cuisinart (and the 10 other coffee pots I''ve tried) that were still half full because they tasted lackluster and were invariably bitter from staying on the burner too long.

This is perfect for one or two people. I can make 1 cup at a time, which is delivered at a temperature of 200 degrees, and I can choose from a huge assortment of pods and on-line companies (try The Coffee Artisan at thecoffeeartisan.com) while feeling at ease that I''m not adding to the landfills. Love that I can use a travel mug too.

It''s inexpensive to buy the pods, which if you only drink about two cups a day comes out to 39 cents a cup over the course of a year for the pods. If you drink more than that, your savings are even greater. When I consider I was spending $1.35 five days a week (using my own mug and paying the ''refill'' price at my local drive-thru) my savings are much more substantial.

It''s very easy to use and is quite attractive yet takes up less room than my other ''normal'' coffee maker and it''s very fast: the coffee is ready in 30 seconds. Since it''s dispensing hot water, you can also use it for tea, hot chocolate, soup, etc.

I''ve had this brewer for a few days now and I feel it rivals any top of the line pod brewer. The coffee it brewers is tasty and very hot. I like the fact that it has a stainless steel tank. As indicated by another reviewer the only downside is the fact that there is no water tank resevoir but you quickly get use to it. It has good clearance for a travel mug and the grill is removable for an even taller cup. One of my better recent purchases.

This is my third POD coffee maker (commercial BUNN MyCafe at my office, and My Invento). It is by far the best. Better in most ways than its $400 commercial cousin. Great coffee, easy to keep clean and use, fast. Takes up very little room on a counter. Fit and finish are very good. This looks and feels like a quality product. I think it makes very good tea too. I make 2-3 cups each morning and lots more when guests are over for dinner. Here''s some advice for best results:

1. Use good coffee PODs. This machine makes a cup that can distinguish between bad, good, and great coffee. This is the first POD maker that allows subtle differences between PODs to show through. Find a good on-line seller of coffee PODs and buy them. (I like Coffee Artisan but there are others).

2. Match the water amounts to the POD size. PODs come in different sizes. This machine can take the bigger, 12 gram PODs. I use 8 oz. of water for a 12 gram POD. This is less water than many of us would guess. I find using an 8 once measuring cup the easiest way to fill the My Cafe machine. If I use a smaller POD, there is one variety that I like which only comes in a 9 gram POD, then I use less water. The machine is fast so that second and third cup are ready in a flash. Do not use too much water unless you like weak coffee.

3 Always use the pulse button. The instructions recommend this for stronger coffee and for tea. Other forums have users always leave that feature on.

4. Use tea PODs for tea. Do not expect great results if you use regular tea bags instead of PODs that are shaped to work in a single serve machine.

5. Use TAP water. BUNN has released information that says the water displacement "reads" minerals in the water to determine how much water you put in and how much should come out. This means that there are issues if you use distilled or other super-pure water.

I love this coffee maker. I have bought one as a gift for my Father. I would buy it again if this one breaks. I considering replacing the commercial version in my office with this "home" version.

This is a sharp looking single-serve brewer that unfortunately to me turned out to be a big disappointment. I am normally a big fan of Bunn (and an even bigger fan of coffee), but I definitely feel that this is not near their past product standards that I have previously enjoyed. Initially, the water reeked of plastic. I think the water is heated too much for all the plastic parts in this machine. I spent two days running a combination of water and vinegar through the pulse and brew cycles to get rid of the strong plastic odor (this appears to be a common complaint). It took more than 80 cups (no exaggeration) to get the smell to a tolerable level that didn''t overpower the coffee. That leads me to my next complaint. The pods are recommended for 8oz to 14oz of water but are horrendously weak at 8oz. I can''t imagine anyone enjoying them at 14oz. I tossed most cups of complimentary brewed pods down the drain. My suggestion to Bunn: use metal parts inside, and require larger pods for this machine or claim smaller production.

I followed the setup instructions and found that the machine holds back about a cup of water that remained unaccounted for (2 cups in for the initial 1 cup out, and then 1 cup in for every 1 cup out afterward). It appears to hold back a full cup of water from the brew cycle which probably can''t be healthy if it always sits with a cup of water in it. Other than that, setup was easy. It brews hot and fast, and was good for tea, but none of the pods supplied provided a good cup of coffee, even at only six ounces of water -less than half of the 14 ounces that they claim in the product description. Even aside from the price of this unit, I see no advantage in this unit other than the brew cycle time. It still requires setup and cleanup to make a cup of coffee, and I was surprised that it has as large of a footprint on my counter as my 12 cup coffee maker. After having used and been a fan of Bunn''s commercial lines and home products in the past, I feel that they really dropped the ball on this. While the pods may be more environmentally friendly than the plastic K-cups of other single serve coffee makers, I think I would rather just use a small 4 cup coffee maker with a filter pack, which requires the same amount of labor to make coffee, takes up less space, is much less expensive to buy and use, and in my opinion, makes a better product.

Saeco S-TT-ST Talea Touch Super-Automatic Espresso Machine Save 52% Off

The Talea Touch makes terrific coffee and has functions that are well thought out and easy to use. The only problem is that they can''t make one that works.

I bought mine in Dec. 2009 from Seattle Coffee Gear. By March 2010, I had returned my third defective machine to Saeco. All three had different problems; the first leaked all over the counter when brewing (an internal hose defect), the second could not be programmed or hold a date and time; the third has a steam wand that leaked (poured) water during the brew cycle enough to fill a shot glass for each coffee made. As of September, I have had to return it two additional times for repairs a total of 5 times.

Saeco will fix or replace this again but what does that tell you about their QC? Saeco customer service has been helpful and courteous once you reach them. Be prepared to wait > 45 minutes on their customer support line to reach a human being.

Saeco came highly recommended and it does makes great coffee and lattes when it works. If you like Audi''s, this may be the coffee machine for you.

One last note, I have attempted to submit this review many times at Seattle Coffee gear and somehow it never appears on their website.

Maybe it is a little premature and I admit I was spooked by the negative reviews, but so far I have been very happy with Talea Touch. I bought it refurbished, not from Amazon but from an auction site (you know which one) and took out an extended SquareTrade warranty. It took little to no time to prime the water circuit, make custom adjustments to the grind and strength of the shot but it resulted in amazing espresso. Prior to this, I was using a Starbucks (Saeco) Barista espresso machine with a de-pressurized portafilter along with Ascaso I-mini grinder to make my espressos/lattes/cappuchinos. Despite reading coffeegeek and Home-barista.com, adjusting the grind/tamp/temp surfing techniques, my pulls were still resulting in shots too sour or too bitter. I was considering buying a higher-end espresso machine and PID kit for better temp control, but realized that I was spending way too much time in the morning griding/dosing/pulling and cleaning when I and my wife just want the d*** coffee. Yes, with Talea touch you do have to clean the group head, descale etc. Yes, the water reservoir could be bigger, the milk island could be cheaper (don''t have one), the spent water/coffee puck reservoir could be a bit bigger as well... but when it comes to shot quality, it was on par with the shots I had in Italy or local Stumptown. And it takes less than 5 minutes to pull a shot. So far I am very happy with the purchase. Durability remains a concern so I will update the review accordingly.

I actually like the fact that the reservoir is not too big, by replenishing it often it keeps the water fresh. This machine makes wonderful coffee that can be adjusted to the drinker''s preferences. The only disappointments I have had are that the beans don''t flow down into the hopper smoothly when it gets a little low, so you need to scoop them over manually and the water resevoir is small so it needs to be refilled frequently. Those are minor problems that are quickly overlooked once you taste the delicious espresso drinks!

Been using this humidfier many years, still works great, decided to try an aftermarket wick (after using the OEM wick all those years) and save a few bucks.

While adequaten this wick only disperses about 50% of the water that the OEM wick did.

Next fall I''ll go back to the OEM wick.

It''s dry in the winter. This filter works well in my humidifier. Saves my skin in winter. Just have to change it often enough. I''m handicapped and it is a pain.
