Better price on similar filters than any of the big box stores. I bought two and there was an immediate improvment in the taste of our water/ice.

At this price I will replace more often because over at HomeDepot the same type of filters are going for at least $22 bucks.

Nespresso CitiZ Automatic Espresso Maker and Milk Frother

Nespresso Citiz D120-Us-Si-Ne1 Silver Chrome with MilkWith all the new style espresso machines on the market (Tassimo, Keurig, Flavia, etc.) I was convinced that Nespresso was more of the same: a set of stylish gimmicks designed to convince you that this "espresso" (though not real at all) was "the real thing." It never is.

Which is why the Nespresso is so great. It IS the REAL THING. The capsules contain nothing more than espresso coffee grounds. The machine is simply an automated and miniaturized "real" espresso rig. And the results speak for themselves:

-full bodied crema like you get from the best barista

-speedy and HOT cups of espresso

-the espresso produced is crisp and clear, full bodied, and smooth

-my Sicilian wife and all her relatives (numerous, and mostly named "Maria" "Antonina" and "Dominic") all fully approve of the espresso that comes out. Comparing is to "Nonna''s" would be sacrilege, but although those words have not been spoken yet, I am conviced the thought has crossed a couple minds. :-)

-all this in under 30 seconds and within a square foot of counter space.

The frothing unit that comes with the machine is nothing short of black magic. I have NO IDEA what it does or how it does it, but the results will amaze you. And the best part is it''s easy to clean: no sticky milk mess left behind to make you wonder who''s gonna get sick first.

Coffee for this machine is 55 cents per cup, and Nespresso delivers online orders with astonishing speed (which is good, because you can''t get the coffee from anyone else!). A bit pricey, but in this case you DO get what you pay for... and then some.

I purchased the Nespresso Citiz several months ago and saved it for Christmas. It was a gift for both my husband and myself. Our morning routine has been to brew a pot of coffee, heat milk in the microwave, and froth by hand in a stainless steel frother. Needless to say, there are lots of steps and lots of items for the dishwasher, but we love our morning coffee. The Nespresso was a hit right out of the box. It is so simple to use, the milk froths better than anything we''ve ever done by hand, the expresso is divine. My husband said it best, "It is so good that it makes you think about what you are drinking and appreciate the experience of really good coffee." Like someone wrote in a previous review, "we''re not going to Starbucks anymore." Yes it is expensive, but over time can actually save money. Yes, you have to order the pods from Nespresso, but this is high quality expresso and delivery is fast. I purchased the sample box to give us an opportunity to try everything. This is an exceptional product.

UPDATE: 3/11/10 The frother on our unit has quit working on two occasions . . .the first quit working after a month, the second after six weeks. While there was no problem getting replacement units, I am concerned that after the unit is out of warranty we will have a Citiz unit with a broken frother. I see someone else has had the same problem in these reviews. It is important not to leave the frother on the connector after use, and let it cool completely between uses. ( Even following these instructions, ours still malfunctioned.) The Citiz is wonderful. We love the coffee, getting pods is a breeze. Customer service is wonderful, but I am seriously considering taking our unit back to the store where we bought it and getting a separate unit and frother.

UPDATE: 5/2/10. The frothier quit again. We use it several times a day....4 to 5 times...it quit yesterday and we are frustrated. We treat it with kid gloves since we''ve been through four frothers since Christmas. Nespresso service has been great but we are going to return the unit to the store and exchange for the unit without the frothier and buy a separate frothier. Upside..we can take it with us. I would be interested in knowing if others have had similar problems.

Before buying the combined unit consider your usage. It may be fine if you only use it once a day. However, if you will be making multiple cups of latte each day, you may wish to consider buying separately.

UPDATE 11/9/2010 We did return the original unit in September and picked up a separate frother and the Citiz without the frother. We''ve been very happy since. In fact we took in on vacation with us. Stayed in several different hotels and it didn''t bother us to haul it around as we really love the Nespresso coffee.

This machine is brilliant. The best espresso or cappuccino I''ve ever tasted, and all in less than 2 minutes, start to finish. The milk frother is a miracle--quick, perfect, instant cleanup. My wife and I have been wired out of our heads since it arrived. We can''t stop drinking the stuff. We''re giving Stieg Larsson''s characters a run for their caffeinated money! The reason is that all the usual inhibitors are gone: the coffee''s gone cold and acrid in the pot, can''t face the 20-minute production and cleanup for a cup of espresso, etc. It''s like the world''s smartest drug dealers got together and designed this thing. Got the slightest urge? Satisfy it! Why not? Just hit the button and it''s there. Wait a minute, my wife''s calling me. What''s that? We''re out? Excuse me, I have to go knock over a 7/11 so I can order another box of capsules.

I give the Citiz itself 5-stars. I love this machine. It produces great espresso, at a low cost compared to a cafe or Fivebucks. I tried a traditional pump espresso maker and it is just too much hassle for my needs. I love espresso but I am no barista, nor do I care to be, and I don''t want to spend a half an hour making it and cleaning up in the mornings. Nor do I want to spend a thousand bucks on a decent machine and more importantly, grinder. The Nespresso coffee is outstanding, with a dozen different flavors, and the sheer ease and speed at which I can produce them is insane. Unbelievably convenient with no mess.

My only issues with this particular unit is the footprint. The Citiz was designed with the urban consumer in mind, limited counter space while still embracing functionality and style. When you purchase the Citiz with Milk, the espresso machine is attached to that base unit along with the Aerochino. And while the machine is still great, it''s space conserving design is rendered completely useless. Furthermore, where my Espresso machine lives, the frother is more convenient on the left side of the machine, which isn''t an option with this combo. So I returned this unit to Amazon, who is always a pleasure shopping with and handling returns from my experience. I then opted for the Citiz stand alone unit, and separate Aerochino. I found a bundle at W&S that Amazon didn''t seem to offer. Also, if you go the separate Citiz and frother route, the stand alone frother seems a little bigger and better. It also has a handle, and you can store it wherever you want.

Want Nespresso CitiZ Automatic Espresso Maker and Milk Frother Discount?

I bought the Citiz + Milk from the manufacturer. What I wish I''d known is that they make the milk frother as a separate component. The Citiz + Milk has a larger footprint because it includes a platform that powers the espresso maker and frother. But it''s also possible to get a stand-alone Citiz and buy a ($50 more expensive) frother that you can use and store independently of the machine. That may be better for people with small spaces.

Now, on to the machine itself. It is well-designed, easy to use and easy to understand. It makes a FANTASTIC cup of espresso, and for milk coffee drink lovers, it makes FANTASTIC cappucinos, etc. The very first drink I put together using the machine was hands-down, no question, superior to the [ubiquitous coffee chain] that I buy two of every day at work. So for me this Citiz machine gets the full 5 stars.

It''s just plain fun to use. Nespresso goes all out with the packaging to a hilarious degree, even sending a binder full of information. It makes you feel like you just bought a really, really special device. The thing is, overblown packaging aside, you DID just buy an espresso machine worth every dang penny.

I have to say the milk frother deserves praise on its own. It makes froth so thick and firm you can almost stand up a spoon in it. It has the consistency of meringue.

I''m very happy with my Citiz + Milk.

UPDATE 12/27/2010: I''ve had mine for a year now, still operating flawlessly, and I wanted to pass along some user notes. I don''t keep the frother on the Citiz charger/base when not in use. I read that it''s possible for electric current to continue to be passed to the frother, even when the unit is off. This ''may'' be what is causing other people''s frothers to stop working. I don''t have any scientific proof/disproof, but I haven''t had any problems with mine.

Nespresso identifies some capsules as espressos and other as lungos (American-style coffee). I have found that all of the espressos work as "lungos," since making one just means using twice as much water. In other words, I have discarded all the prescribed do''s and don''ts, and have just played with the machine and capsules to figure out combinations I like. Same with the milk quantities. Also, some milks froth better than others. The fat content in the milk seems to make a difference. My advice would be to just play around with it, and not get too hung up on Nespresso''s "rules."

I have used the CB1 filter several times to replace the more expensive CB3 and it works just fine, although Omni never suggests anywhere that this is acceptable. I guess they would rather sell more CB3 filters. But if you research the housings for Omni''s different units you discover that the one that accepts the CB3 filter is the same as the one for the CB1. Granted the CB3 filter does remove more stuff from the water but my concern is primarily taste and odor and the CB1 is a carbon filter which does this well. Unfortunately when I got ready to use the filter and removed all the packaging I could see that the filter was cracked. I had no choice to install it with the crack as the old one had been discarded and I didn''t want the hassle of trying to exchange it. It seems to be working OK. So my only dissatisfaction was with the condition of the filter not its performance.

What can you say. It does the job and easy easy to flush. I have all water in the kitchen going through a gang of these. Seems like it filters well. Ice isn''t extremely clear, but that could be other factors causing it. No smell, tastes great, happy with them. I buy a case at a time.

BISSELL Little Green ProHeat Turbo Carpet Cleaner Save 2% Off

BISSELL Little Green ProHeat Turbo Carpet Cleaner, 1425BBefore I got this carpet cleaner, I bought the cordless Bissell Spot Lifter. I sent the Spot Lifter back because it would work only 5 minutes before you had to recharge the battery (12 hours). Even though Little Green isn''t cordless, it is small and lightweight and works incredibly well.

We had old pet stains on our cream colored carpeting and since we got the Little Green, we''ve been able to get all of them up from the carpet. Whenever our dog creates other messes, we''re able to take the cleaner out right away and clean it up without having to go through too many steps to get the Little Green ready for use. I would recommend this to anyone, especially those with pets and small children -I don''t know why I didn''t get this months before -its made a huge difference in the look of our carpet and well worth the price.

As others have stated it works well when it works. I was really happy with the way it cleaned. I especially liked the turbo brush. But when I went to use it for only the second time the sprayer wouldn''t work a frequent complaint I understand. You don''t have to be particularly handy to fix it. You need a screw driver, a pair of pliers and a paper clip. Unplug the machine. Take the four screws from the top out. Pull the top up. Underneath you will see a black box with 4 screws undo. Underneath the cover is heater box. Lift up and undo the 5 screws on the bottom. You will see what is causing the problem. You don''t need to disconnect the wires. Release the clamps holding the plastic tubes with the pliers and gently remove the tubes. Use the paper clip, opened, to clean out the holes in the heater. It did not take long at all.

Folks, it isn''t so much a design flaw, rather its as much a problem with the chemistry. Jets only get clogged if soap solutions are too concentrated, the water used is dirty, or some chemistry conspires to build up lime or sludge.

I have a proheat clearview upright... used it for over 3 years now. Noticed the spray wasn''t as zippy for the past two years as I seemed to recall when we first bought it. Tonight, it wouldn''t spray at all. Thought: bad belt, but the belt was fine. Thought: clogged sprayers (these are a bit larger than on your model), but they both were fine. Traced the lack of pressure all the way to the heater block in the neck of the beast. Called Bissell and a really nice rep kindly told me they aren''t allowed to sell me that heater block. Something about insurance (blame your neighbors who are all to happy to sue at the drop of a hat -none of us here are that shallow, are we?)

Anyway -one of you told the story of the repair guy taking the heater apart. I never would have thought they made the thing servicable -but sure enough! I removed the heater carefully, marking all of the wire colors and which hose was which, flipped it over to find 7 screws holding a bottom plate. Carefully removed them so as not to damage the silicon seal or the 5 littel o-rings, took a toothbrush and scrubbed the soap goo out of the channels... one of the nozzles was choked closed, but a pipe cleaner and some patience got it looking nearly new. Carefully screwed it back together, tightening evenly -rebuilt the beast and it''s cleaning like it hasn''t in years. Probably piss off Bissell service shops by telling this, but maybe the handier of you will benefit.

My husband is not the "chore type" so when he came home with this machine and set it up, I assumed he would leave it for me to do the actual work of cleaning up the many spots on our carpet. Imagine my surprise when he spent the next hour on his knees searching out every little stain and spill he could find in our four bedroom house -and attacking it. It truly is satisfying to see those stains disappear (even the oldest ones) with so little effort. For some time, I had been loath to call the carpet cleaners, since all they really do is pitch unwanted services, and, since their last visit, we had owned two dogs in rapid succession. You can imagine. Then there was the miracle it worked on the carpet areas of my minivan that aren''t covered by mats. It even got the red drink up. I''m sold!

After doing my research into carpet cleaners, I bought the bissell little green pro heat thinking that it looked like a great product. The heating option sounded great to me, hot water meant cleaner results right? Well, After having it for only one year, I have had to have it REPAIRED THREE TIMES! And after getting to watch the repairman take it apart and fix it he showed me exactly what was wrong with it. There is a metal box that the water passes through to heat it and if you use any soap in the water, the soap gets too hot and gums it up. Whe the repairman opened this box up, it was full of jelly like goo. This clogs up the sprayer, and you get no spray. It has to be taken completly apart to be fixed. It is VERY FRUSTRAITING! This happened three times to me, even after making sure I used only clean, filtered, plain water. The repairman said that he has had to repair several with the same problem. I suggest you buy another brand, or one without the heater. It has only been a source of frustration!

Squeegee for Hoover FloorMate H3000 59177047

Squeegee for Hoover FloorMate H3000 59177047My old Hoover Floormate 2800 had lost suction and I discovered that the squeegee on the nozzle had pretty much disintegrated. GoVacuum''s service was great and the replacement squeegee arrived in a couple of days. The squeegee is easily replaceable and is held by three easy-to-remove screws. Once installed, the cleaner began sucking up the water as it had when it was new. My cleaner model is very old and no longer available, but this squeegee fit perfectly. In general, replacing parts is cheap, easy, and much better for the environment!

Replacing the squegee is a easy fix--undo 3 screws to remove it from the housing, slide the new one into place, replace the screws. Makes a floor cleaner that is several years old work like new again.

I have always been a water drinker but I usually drink hot water. Cold water just never seemed palpable to me; I never knew why. I think I''ve figured it out. Hot water somehow masked the mineral and chemical taste of the water. Since having my Berkey drinking water has taken on new meaning. I LOVE the taste. No need to heat my water anymore! I highly recommend getting the spigot with the glass vile attached. It takes the guess work out of how much water to add to the Berkey each night.

I had a problem with the two Black Berkey filters. They would not filter out the red dye. I contacted them and presto they sent two replacement filters THAT DAY, they did not wait for me to send the defective filters before they sent the replacements. They even issued a call tag to pick up the bad filters at their expense. Customer service was on TOP of every communication.

The hardest part in the process is determining which Berkey Water filter outfit will work best for you. The prices from advertiser to advertiser is not that big of a difference for price evaluation. Then order from these folks, IF the price is higher here it is worth it in customer support.

Grandi Groom

Grandi Groom
  • Ideal for agitating pre-spray into carpet
  • Excellent for working protector into carpet fiber
  • 18-inch wide head
  • Complete with handle and head

I bought the Grandi Groom after reading about carpet rakes on Lifehacker.com. I was amazed at the result from the first time I used the product. I generally rake my carpet twice, once before vacuuming to raise the nap to expose the dirt and again after vacuuming for a final fluff and to get the vacuum streaks out. My guests are always amazed at how good my carpet looks and think I must have some type of special vacuum. Invariably they have never heard of using a carpet rake. Trust me, if you want your carpet to look good and last longer, rake it.

I purchased this broom to help with dog hair from two new dogs my family adopted. It was a big disappointment. The angle of bristles in the broom head are meant for someone much taller than I am say about 7 ft tall! Even if the bristles had been at the correct angle, they are too weak and flimsy to do what was described in the product info. I failed to see how this could bring out hidden dirt if used before vacuuming or how it could be used to "finish" look of carpet after vacuuming. The handle is way too long and too big around to get a good grip on it. The only way I could use the brush was to remove it from the handle and get down on my hands and knees. Not a very practical product if you have good, thick carpet that needs a little extra care.

Air-O-Swiss AOS 7135 Ultrasonic Humidifier Save 10% Off

Air-O-Swiss AOS 7135 Ultrasonic Humidifier - Warm and Cool MistI went to a local Bed Bath and Beyond to find silent or near silent humidifier. Salesman introduced this Air-O-Swiss as the best machine on market. He added Venta-Sonic does the same job but costs $50 less, and all other brands can''t compare. I bought both units to compare. Air-O-Swiss is a clear winner, hands down.

The two machines sat side-by-side. It''s clear immediately to everyone that Air-O-Swiss is quieter. Even at highest setting, Air-O-Swiss'' noise level and frequency are lower than Venta-Sonic''s, and they blend nicely into background. They don''t give me headaches as Venta-Sonic. At lower settings, Air-O-Swiss can be virtually silent. With Air-O-Swiss on, I slept very well. The next night was Venta night. Unfortunately, the base machine noise was just as bad as the first unit that I returned earlier for noise problems. I tried to go to sleep with it on but after a few hours, headaches and agitation from the noise made me shut it off and switch on Air-O-Swiss and slept through afterwards.

I kept on alternating units days and nights to observe results from continued operation. After three days, Venta-Sonic unit began to add that strange squeeking noise. Air-O-Swiss gave consistent good near silent performance...and going strong still. Just based on noise-level alone, I had to return Venta-Sonic even though Air-O-Swiss costs $50 more. But that extra costs are further justified by the following:

1. Consistent Performance I can put Air-O-Swiss on automatic mode with preset humidity level before I go to sleep, when I wake up, my bedside humidity reader (far away from the machine) has within 1% margin of error to the preset desired level.

Venta-Sonic however, I can put it to MAX settings, and I get only around 32% sometimes and other times anywhere below 50%.

2. Greater Output Capacity My bedroom is 300 square feet+, half of 600 both machines claim can cover. Air-O-Swiss comfortably reaches my desired level (b/w 40% and 50%) with lower settings (It can go as high as 75%, I only set it up to 50%). Venta-Sonic labors over 8 hours at MAX settings and gets me LESS humidity! It won''t get me above 50%.

3. Ease of Use with Digital Control I like Air-O-Swiss'' Auto Mode with Desired Humidity Setting. The machine adjusts output automatically. Venta-Sonic only has two dials, you''ll have to experiment for a while to find the optimal settings. As soon as atmospheric humidity changes, which can be daily or a few hours, you''d have to re-adjust again...that''s like shooting darts in the dark all the time, you can get close if lucky but never on target.

4. Better Mist Venting Notch Design I put both machines on 3-feet-tall dresser. Air-O-Swiss'' notch is tilted higher than Venta''s. This means when operating cold mist, Air-O-Swiss''s disappears into air vs. some Venta''s still hit the floor not enough to form condensation but less efficient in humidifying perhaps that contributes to Venta''s lower output previously mentioned.

5. Better Craftsmanship Venta-Sonic is a notch below Air-O-Swiss, appears to be made simpler and CHEAPER.

Filter changes and clean up are similar. Venta needs to change filter cup. Air-O-Swiss needs filter cup and once-a-year silver stick change. Both are fool proof. Venta filters are more expensive but Air-O-Swill has extra silver stick. Cost-wise it''s similar. I like Air-O-Swiss''s option of replacing resins just dump old resin in filter cup and put new packet in and you get a NEW filter this cuts cost by almost 65% and less trash for the environment.

Water tank design is similar. Both fills water upside down. I still prefer Air-O-Swiss because the top is more leveled, easier to sit in sink or bath tub than Venta''s tilted top. When moving Venta-Sonic, water spilled between base and tank. I had no problem with Air-O-Swiss.

Anything Air-O-Swiss can improve? Sure! The humidity reader on the machine is adjusted about 13% lower than actual average room humidity. They probably did it to ensure average humidity far away from the unit reaches target, but I think they can do so internally without having to show it. It would be a mistake to read the room humidity off that machine.

After I got the machines, I googled on both. There was one review elsewhere saying that Venta-Sonic broke after a month and half, out of store 30-day warranty and owner took a loss. Air-O-Swiss has 3 year warranty, if I remember correctly, Venta 1 year.

The trouble I went through is worth the finding of the right humidifier for me. Hope this helps those with similar concerns!

I got this to humidify my kids room. Previously we had been using the old vick vaporizer but it only put out for about 6 hours and had some other issues with getting the mineral content of the water just right.

Anyway this is without a doubt the best humidfier I''ve ever used. Setup was a little confusing at first (where little parts went. The tube hole through the tank was a little disconcerting but after I understood its function I saw it wasn''t going to slosh water everywhere.

For a humidfier it has a amazing number of options.

Warm Mist vs Cool

I had always used "warm mist" but my wife wanted "cool mist", this was the only one that had both. Warm and cool are relative terms however. When I think of warm mist I think of the Vicks which can scald you if you get to close. It heats the room up in operation. This device the warm mist is sort of warm. It takes a few minutes to warm up and if you put your hand over the output you can feel its warm but not hot. It goes to warm by pre-heating the water before it hits the vaporizer. In cool mist it just vaporizes.

Output-

You have two output controls, relative humidity and mist volume for lack of a better term. Think of it as fan speed (but no fan)You set the humidity and it spits out water as needed. I don''t know where the sensor is but the position of the output nozzel can really affect its reading.

The tank seems to hold enough water for 24 hours of output or 2-3 nights of use. The output is plenty adequate for a bedroom.

Controls-

Lots of controls on/off, heat/no heat, humidity, output, timer, auto mode and more. This is the big difference betwen this and the lower end model. Someone finally figured out how to put a timer on a humidifier (imagine that). So it runs as many hours as you set it. The sleep mode sets all settings automatically and runs 8 hours. I love it.

Noise-

What noise, this thing is silent. No bubbling or hissing or fan noises.

Filling the tank-

Take it out, flip it, unscrew the deminerlization cartridage and fill er up. Not the most stable but it works. Carry handle makes it easy to take back.

Its everything you could possibaly want in a humidifier. Low maintence, easy enough to fill, quite, lots of settings for any need.

Beats the heck out of the old vicks and some fan based whicking mold catching filter units I''ve used. The closet thing I ever had was a drugstore one that spit out the good stuff for 15 minutes and then broke. This is a quality product (and price) and should last (I''ve had it 2 weeks at the time of writing). It may be expensive but it does what you want and will outlast many of the others. If you''ve got the money its worth it.

Buy Air-O-Swiss AOS 7135 Ultrasonic Humidifier Now

I am writing this review after prolonged experience with the Air-O-Swiss 7135. I bought one early last winter because I live in a walk-up in New York City which has ancient central heating that I can''t adjust. Consequently, it dries the air like there''s no tomorrow.

I chose the Air-O-Swiss because they have a reputation as a company that produces a high quality products however, after my experience I''m left wondering just how this reputation came about.

The 7135 is initially fantastic it looks great, feels sturdy, is virtually silent and does its job well (although for a humidifier this size in a medium sized studio with brutal central heating, the best you''re going to achieve is around 35% humidity). The tank is easy to fill, the unit is easy to maintain and all seems well. One thing I will say is to echo the experience of others who have found that the digital readout on the unit is around 10% out I have a good quality hygrometer which is situated nearby and they both give totally different readings. But not to worry, since I need the unit to go full blast all the time, it does not matter to me what the readout is. It''s never going to give me my ideal 45% humidity, so I never need it to shut off.

Now, onto the problem. The first unit I bought in 2007 developed a leak after about 3 months of use. The tank, when filled with water, doesn''t leak by itself neither does the reservoir in the base. But put the tank on the reservoir and turn it on and after around 20 minutes water begins to gush from the join between the two. Whatever physical mechanism prevents water from coming out of the tank when the reservoir is full, ceases to work and the result is flooding a disaster if you''ve gone out and left it running.

I was told that perhaps there was a hairline crack somewhere which was letting air in and screwing with the level of the water in the reservoir. I looked everywhere and concluded that if there is a hairline crack, it''s going to be impossible to find. So the store I bought it from exchanged it for a new one. I have to point out that I treated the unit with kid gloves, never banged the tank on anything and was always extremely careful to position the tank on the base gently. Whatever caused it to fail, it wasn''t maltreatment.

So, I had a new unit. I didn''t use it much because it was the end of the winter anyway, so it was stored in the box in the closet over the spring and the summer. At the time of writing, I''ve used the new one for approximately 2 months and it''s developed exactly the same overflow problem. It only overflows when the tank is on the base and it''s switched on, after around 20 minutes of use.

Contacting Air-O-Swiss I''ve been told that the tank probably has a hairline crack somewhere and that I should order a new tank at a price of $29.99. But two factors are telling me "no."

First of all, this is the second unit I''ve had and it''s developed exactly the same problem after a similar duration of time. This alone tells me that the model itself has an issue but that''s not all. I spoke to the women in the store that I bought it from and she told me that they have had quite a few units returned with the same problem. I also spoke to a guy at work recently who has had a couple of these and they overflowed too.

From reading some of the rave reviews here, I suspect that people have rated this product based on its initial performance, which admittedly is great. I wonder how many of them have gone on to experience the same problem as me and many others, a few months down the line.

I think basically what''s up is that the tank is not made particularly well and I believe that Air-O-Swiss is fully aware of the issue and figures that they''ll just sell replacement tanks and that most people will be happy with that scenario. But it is already enough that I have to buy replacement filters and a silver stick once a year. Add to that the cost of a new tank every few months and it''s just not worth it. I honestly feel ripped off with this product and would advise others not to buy it. I know what it''s like when you see a bum review on Amazon among lots of rave reviews: the tendency is to think "what''s his problem? He just got a faulty unit!" but in this case, I think that given the experience that I''ve had with two units and the experiences I''ve heard of others who have had the same unit for a while, the review is justified. Don''t waste your money on the Air-O-Swiss, there''s a very good chance that yours will leak too.

I''ve had my Air-O-Swiss 7135 for a little over a year now and I think it''s absolutely wonderful. It shoots a very fine mist through the tube on top, which you can turn to face whichever direction you like, in a 360-degree plane. (The instructions do tell you that the humidifier should be put on a table, not on the floor.) It also operates very quietly. You don''t hear any fan and you only occasionally hear the sound of trickling water. I leave mine set on automatic. Simply select the humidity level you want in your house and this little appliance will turn itself on and off seamlessly to keep the humidity level near what you''ve selected. I consider the other features secondary to the ease of operation.

My only complaint so far with this item is with filling the reservoir. You have to turn the reservoir upside down to fill it, and it''s large enough that holding it under a faucet can be a chore. (I find myself filling the reservoir every 24 to 36 hours.) The only fix I can suggest to the manufacturer is to allow you to pour water into an opening in the top of the reservoir so that you wouldn''t have to remove the reservoir to fill it. Still, I love this humidifier.

Want Air-O-Swiss AOS 7135 Ultrasonic Humidifier Discount?

I''d love to give this unit more than three stars because I like almost everything about it. It humidifies really well. I can really tell the difference in humidity level after even 1 hour in my bedroom. Much better than the evaporative humidifier I used to have. I think the humidistat works well, it''s very easy to use and I like how it can have a sleep mode, it has variable "humidifying levels" that allow the user to adjust how much humidity is coming out, better than just a fan speed adjustment.

The thing is practically invisible to the ear. The occasional trickle of water but otherwise silent as the tomb. The tank, while not complicated to fill, is not the best design I''ve seen. Yes, you have to flip it upside down, but that''s fairly typical of tabletop humidifiers I believe; at least it is of the ones I have owned.

However, my biggest problem with this humidifier is the white dust it spews EVERYWHERE! I don''t know if it''s because I have softened water at my house, but my whole bedroom is coated in this white dust. It gets everywhere! And I am using there demineralization cartridge and still have the problem. I called their tech support, which was very difficult to do, and they were of no help. Just "that''s why ultrasonic humidifiers are unpopular" was their response!! What sort of response is that??

So, unless I buy distilled water to use in this thing, which would be a rather ridiculous expense, I have to deal with the dust. So, it looks like I''ll have to sacrifice the quiet operation of a warm mist humidifier for a noisy evaporative cooler.

Bona Pro Series Wm700051188 Stone

Bona Pro Series Wm700051188 Stone, Tile and Laminate Cleaner Ready To Use, 32-Ounce SprayWe''ve used Bona on our kitchen''s Pergo floor for several years and are pleased with its performance. To apply the cleaner we either use a dry Swiffer pad or a soft cloth. I prefer cleaning the floor the old fashioned way, on my knees and with a soft cloth turned often. After being cleaned the floor has a nice, soft sheen.

I''ve also used the Bona on my ceramic tile bathroom floor on occasion. It makes the tile sparkle without making it slippery.

The Bona formula is non toxic but can cause stomach irritation. I haven''t personally tried drinking any Bona, so I will take the manufacturer''s word about the stomach irritation.

The price for the cleaner on Amazon from this vendor is as good or better than any local seller''s in Spudland.

Works great on laminate floors. Leaves my floors super clean, shiny & streak free. Also love that it''s pet safe.

Replaced a whole house humidifier pad that had been in my Honeywell HE265B for about two years. This pad is easy to install but it will be made of plastic and seem a little less robust than the aluminum pad that you may be replacing. The recommendation is to change the filter twice a heating season so this may be a more cost effective alternative than its aluminum alternative HC26E1004.

I purchased a mineral cube through Amazon and noticed we were having frequent bathroom problems. This makes the 3rd mineral cube we have used. We happened to notice black on the mineral cube. This happened only few weeks after we stared using the cube. We used the cube every day. Since no one will replace the

Aquios Full House Water Softener and Filter System
  • Salt-Free, Full House Water Softening and Water Filtration Treatment System Commercial grade descaler that eliminates hard water deposits and conditions water
  • All-In-One system that conditions, filters, eliminates scale without pressure loss.
  • Compact design, requires no maintenance, programming or electricity
  • Commercial strength water conditioning and filtration, 6 month cartridge life
  • 20 Year warranty, 40,000 gallon cartridge included

I purchased the Aquios unit from Amazon right before Christmas and had it professionally installed a little over a week ago. For anyone concerned about the installation costs, I hired a local plumber and he was able to install the unit for $150 including parts, and it took him less than an hour. I''m sure someone with good plumbing skills and basic tools could easily install the softener themselves; I simply know my limitations and elected to have it installed properly.

I couldn''t be happier with the results. My wife and I started noticing a difference in our water quality immediately, and it keeps getting better every day. True, this unit may not match the classic definition of a water softener since it does not use salt, but if crystal-clear water, no chemical taste, elimination of scale buildup and essentially maintenance-free operation is what you are looking for in a whole-house conditioning system, then the heck with "classic" definitions.

We''ve both noticed a better "feel" from our water in the shower, and the amount of soap and shampoo we use in order to feel clean has been drastically reduced. The first time I used my espresso machine with our "new" water, it was like night and day. The coffee carafe did not show any signs of lime or scale buildup, whereas previously I would have to wash the container out with soap and hot water after each use. Our water was so hard, we had to scrub the toilet bowls daily to keep them clean, and now all of those water stains and "gunk" have simply disappeared. The shower mirror stays crystal clear with no signs of haze, and our water tastes great right from the tap.

It puzzles me how someone could write a review for a product they''ve never used. So, even though this unit does not use salt, who cares??? If its results you''re looking for, I would recommend you take a close look at the Aquios system as a viable alternative to salt-based conditioners.

I had this installed last week in a home we just bought. We didn''t notice a change right away in the water quality. We have horrible water where we live (an ag city).

I had it tested when we first moved in and and it was over 185 ppm. It was like soap when washing the car. It literally came out like soap and left bubbles and film on the car. We wouldn''t touch the stuff for drinking. Anyways, the stainless steel sink in the kitchen was covered in hard water film along with the fixtures in the bathrooms. We are on a full galvanized pipe install under the house along with the guest house / garage. There was some copper pipes but they were toast and I removed them, went full steel and grounded the pipes (house been around since the 50''s and the steel was still goodkind of makes me wonder why people recommend copper over steel when the copper was destroyed.. I''m not sure about plastic but the pipes under the house look like new, and came apart like new (60+ years old)just were it was joined with copper is where I found issues. I think it''s just plumbers would rather save money on installing plastic. (Just my opinion after seeing these galvanized pipes myself)

Installed this on the main and replaced the old shutoff with a lever. A week later the sinks are clean and the water is much better (not perfectI wouldn''t drink it but much better). It has a bypass that''s easy to use for the nights when the sprinklers come on. Bypass every other night until I can fix the sprinklers that keep getting kicked. We are happy with the purchase.

I put a reverse osmosis system on the kitchen sink for drinking water. We should have a real water softener but I just wanted to try this first. Think we saved ourselves $500. You don''t really need the softener. This thing is good enough to keep the film and soapy water that comes from the city from sticking to everything. The replace filter costs $60 but I talked with someone who said he goes 2 years without replacing his whole house filter. Guess we''ll have to see.

We''ve had this installed for $140 by our plumber.Someone else gave us a price of $395 for the same installation,so be careful and call around for prices. We feel it works great. We can now drink water from the faucet with no after taste and you can install it just about anywhere. We had ours installed in the garage where our pipes run thru. We''ve been using it since September 2012,and still working fine.Filters with (EOC),which is what we got and are only $10 more, are suppose to last a family of four for six months,So,I expect to get 8 to 10 months use for just my wife and myself. Our plumber said,he doesn''t know why more people don''t use this type of softener/filter instead of spending thousand''s for something that''ll do the same thing this will.It DOES NOT affect our water pressure at all. There was absolutely no difference, and the filter''s are easy to replace.Just unsrew the top, pull the old filter out and slide the new one in,but, don''t forget to soak the filter for 15 minute''s before putting the filter in.We live in Tucson,AZ,and our water is very hard. This system did the trick. It''s also saving our appliance''s,water heater, faucet''s,dish washer, toilet''s,etc from the calcium build-up we got before. We actually had to take our water heater out and flush all the calcium chunks out in the yard.We don''t hear those chunks banging against the side of the water heater anymore from the pressure inside.I recommend this water softener. If it works in Arizona, where the water is very hard,it should work most anywhere, and the cost of it is very reasonable for what it does, plus the extra life it is giving our appliance''s and our skin and hair and having water you drink.I''m pretty picky guy,so,you can trust this review and I DO NOT work for Aqious.

Also,it arrived ahead of the actual delivery date stated.

I had this filter/softener (wink!) system professionally installed and (the professional with 30 years experience) could not get it to stop leaking. Literally spent hundreds of dollars to have it taken back out again the next day. The reality was that it also was not a true water softener. It had four chemical balls in the filter that one would assume that would dissolve over a period of time and coat piping to stop scale buildup. I was also informed it was not stamped anywhere for the certification for it''s intended purpose. You can purchase the same filter setup for much less money, have the chemical balls and filter, have a true goverment certification and "Guess what? It doesn''t leak!!". Good luck, if you purchase this! This was just my experience... By the way, Amazon was good about dealing with turning in a claim.

Aquios system does not operate as promised in the online ad. We installed the Aquinos Water System in July 2012. After a period of time it is apparent that it does not filter out the chemical smells or clean/soften the water. We can still smell the "rotten egg" odor and the cannister leaks when we put it in bypass mode to change the filter. It advises that you change the filter every quarter to six months, but because the smell was still so bad we went ahead and changed the filter out on September 15th, 2012 (roughly 2 months after install) and it still showed no improvement. So to replace filter, we shut the water off and we changed the system from "filter" to "bypass". The canister still leaked at the top of the unit. It was a mess. Overall, we will have to purchase a new filtration system because this one does not perform as advertised. Yesit was professionally installed by a certified plumber. Cannot recommend this product. Very disappointed. Posted-October 22, 2012.

  • SpaceWise organization system, best in class ice & water filtration system

  • Ice-Maker,Suplemental Ice, Quick Ice
  • 4 Spill safe Sliding Shelves-Saver Technology, Automatic Alerts

READ THIS ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A WELL OR REVERSE OSMOSIS SYSTEM:

Owned this for six months now. It''s roomy. Has a wide thin storage drawer, which works well for my vegetable and cheese trays. Has two deep veggie/fruit drawers. Jugs of milk easily fit in the doors. It runs quiet except I do notice the sound of ice dropping when the house is quiet, and it resists fingerprints better than most stainless steel.

The one area where I have had trouble is the ice maker. It worked great at first, but after a few months the output diminished, then completely stopped. A repairman came out but he couldn''t pinpoint the problem. It started working again anyway. A few months later the problem happened again. I called Frigidaire and mentioned in passing that the water filters through our separate reverse osmosis system before it goes to the ice maker. Ah-ha, said the service department, that''s the problem. Water pressure on an osmosis system hovers around 20 psi. The ice maker needs minimum 30 psi to function properly. I also mentioned we''re out in the country and have a well. Double-whammy against the ice maker.

For reverse osmosis and/or wells the fridge needs a bypass filter. This replaces the regular standard filter that comes with it. The filters are super easy to change. Just open the fridge door and there it is in the back--top right corner.

The silver lining in this story is once you insert the bypass filter (about $40.00) it never needs replaced. BTW, the regular standard filter (about $40.00) that comes with the fridge needs replaced about every six months. $40.00 once versus $40.00 twice a year--you do the math. My understanding is most makes and model containing ice makers need filters of some kind, so there''s no way around it.

I have owned a similar Frigidaire Gallery unit (ice maker in the freezer) for 18 months now and I would NOT purchase this unit, or any similar unit, from Frigidaire again.

Here''s the issue I have had the Ice maker replaced once (I''m on my second ice maker) and every so often, the mechanism freezes over. The problem is that the mechanism that fills the ice tray is gravity fed. Something goes wrong, and the ice maker spews water all over the inside of your freezer. And your ice maker... And the large gears that the freezer door relies on to open and close.

So, last night, my freezer door is completely frozen shut. I nearly broke the unit (not to mention my back, legs) trying to get the freezer door open so that I could spend 45 minutes at a really odd angle with a blow dryer trying to melt and chip away at the iceberg that was the left side, back and bottom of this freezer unit.

Unless your masochistic, or just feel like playing a bad joke on someone, stay away.

Bought this unit because I was tired of carrying bottled water from the store. Eventually I was going to break my back. This unit was very easy to install, and filters are extremely easy to replace. Water has a definite improvement in taste, before I could taste the chlorine but through the filter it taste crisp and light.

In the course of 11 months it only had a few drawbacks. For one the filter I don''t think lasts the rated 100 gallons. I started noticing the chlorine taste again after maybe around 80 gallons. I had been using about 11 gallons of bottle water per month, and I had to change the filter in 7 months. Also just before replacing the filter I noticed the seal between the faucet and filter unit began to leak a little. Not a huge deal but annoying to say the least.

Overall it''s still much better than having to haul and dispose bottles. Just change the filter when you notice the water taste starting to change and replace the seal when it begins to leak.

I''ve been trying to find a decent water filtration system for most of a year. It''s amazing how few there are out there. Two Britta systems failed miserably, with cheap, plastic connectors and water spurting out everywhere. I''ve heard nothing much good about Pur, though I haven''t tried them myself. So I went warily shopping and found an array of Dupont products, including this one that cost under twenty bucks. Expecting the worst, I brought it home and hooked it up within minutes. For more than a week now, I''ve been enjoying hassle free water with no gushing surprises. The switch turns easily, unlike that horrendous Britta that strained the fingers. There is not a single trace of leaking, spurting or spraying from odd sections of the appliance. The water stream is strong and steady and it comes from one orifice, not two, like the Britta and some other models. The water tastes great. Unless this thing explodes in my hand tomorrow, I''m more than satisfied. Go figure: I didn''t need to upgrade to the more expensive Britta models. I just needed to switch brands altogether.

I have used a Dupont filter on my kitchen faucet for quite some years now and have been more than satisfied. There are 2 negatives to this product that I have encountered though. A couple years back mine broke off where it screws onto the faucet. I had just bought a new 3-pack of cartridges, so I replaced it with another Dupont filter. Now I just move the faucet instead and leave the filter alone. The only other thing I would like to see would be a sensor of sorts to alert you to change the cartridge.

BISSELL Pre-Motor Filter Style 7/8/14

BISSELL Pre-Motor Filter Style 7/8/14, 3290The products I received do not appear to be "genuine" Bissell filters, as the items were packaged in a plain clear resealable bag.

This is especially disappointing, given that Bissell charges $3 on its website (instead of the $7 charged here). I bought it on Amazon to avoid the additional shipping charges by Bissell (it worked out to be a dollar cheaper here).

As for the quality of the foam, it appears to be a different texture than the original filter. I''m not a foam expert, however, and they may be comparable.

Lesson learned.

I ordered filters clearly identified on the site as Genuine Bissel, which were not the filters I received. In fact the ones I were given were clearly of inferior quality, which increased my disappointment. The notion of deceit instinctively came to mind and why I contacted Amazon to request a refund.

I would not do business with this company again.

It''s an inline water filter.

Be sure to make flat and not angular cuts on your tubing if that''s the installation method you choose. My cut was not exactly square on the line coming from the fridge. When the water was turned on I heard a bit of air escape from the fridge end of the filter where my uneven cut was. By the time I could reach to that area the water pressure blew the connection out and I had black carbon filter water shooting around the kitchen. You have to laugh. Especially when it''s my career to maintain complex hardware on a daily basis. Once I got the water turned off and the spill cleaned up I cut the tubing squarely and reinstalled. Been without issue since. It do what it do if I do my part.

I''m sure the filter itself is decent enough, but I never even got that far. The product comes with plastic quick-disconned fittings that get fastened to the copper tubing by compression. Problem is the compression nut is brass, and the fitting is plastic. If you dont'' have the threads exactly lined up, it is extremely easy to strip the threads. Which I did... Haven''t looked yet how available a replacement quick-disconnect fitting is, but my guess is not readily available. Recommend to GE that they make the quick disconnects out of brass or something more robust than plastic.

The GE GXRTQ water filterGE SmartWater Inline Filter Kit (GXRTQ) is easy to install and to change.

It clips into the water line under the sink, and it only needs to be changed once a year. Unlike many other filters, which are designed only for refrigerators, this one can be used also for filtered water at the sink, from a line under the sink, eliminating those un-ecological bottles. No need to get a new fridge with a water feature.

I have been happily using the GXRTQ aka GXRTQR filter for years but I am told it is being discontinued by GE. So I bought a Whirlpool WHKF-IMPLUS instead and it works fine as a replacement! Just be sure to transfer the screw-in quick connect adapters from the GXRTQ filter body to the Whirlpool filter, and you''re good to go. Don''t forget to use a bit of teflon tape on the threads.

Takeya 64-Ounce Iced Tea Maker with Silicone Handle Save 29% Off

Takeya 64-Ounce Iced Tea Maker with Silicone Handle, Avocado/OliveI''m so glad I found this tea brewer. I had the Bodum Ceylon brewer for about a year and I would imagine that it''s one of the main alternatives to the Takeya.

I''ll do a quick comparison:

Durability honestly, i''ve only had it for about a month but it''s obviously made of better quality, or at least, more durable material. i''m not overly concerned about it breaking. the bodum ceylon i had cracked after using it for about a year and with relatively light usage as in not every day or even every week of the year. time will tell, but i don''t think this is gonna break so easily. the quality feels better in the hand. doesn''t feel cheap.

Infuser/Filtering ability the holes on the bodum are large and so smallish leaf or the "dust" gets through quite easily into the brewed tea. the filter on the takeya is very fine and so far i''ve had clear cups of iced tea. i''ve been making white tea which has a larger leaf though. i''m thinking that it would do okay with japanese teas which tend have a very fine, almost ground up, leaf. i think takeya is a japanese brand so i would imagine they''d make a brewer that would do a reasonable job on their teas.

the infuser on the bodum though extends the length of the pitcher and so you don''t need to fill it up. you would need to fill up the takeya to at least where the tea leaves are in the filter in order to make the tea. you may not want that much and you don''t have the option of choosing.

Looks the bodum was nice to look at but the material easily took on a cloudy, not so new looking appearance. it looked old after the first usage. i like the takeya i like green top since that''s my fave color. this particular takeya model is tall so you should take measurements in your fridge to make sure it''ll fit wherever you plan to put it. the bodum model is slender which is nice. it slides in easily to narrow areas.

Ease of use the takeya filter/infuser twists into the top/lid. that''s very cool. it''s very easy. the bodum slides into grooves/tracks on the side of the pitcher. you just have to make sure you get into the grooves; they are easily missed. you also flip this thing at the handle to open the top. the air can also easily access the tea because it''s not really closed off. the takeya has a twist open top that will allow you to pour, without excess spillage. and tea stays fresher.

BPA if you care, takeya says it is bpa free. i don''t know about bodum. it''s not on the description.

so, obviously i prefer this one. it''s a nice product. i''m looking forward to making more iced tea. i use the cold (no heat) brewing method by the way.

I saw a larger version of this with a separate brewer so you''d make the tea in one vessel and then store it in another. I went in search of something more practical and this is it.

1. Good capacity and design. Makes plenty of tea and stores on the fridge shelf or on the door.

2. Some don''t like the fact that the filter screws into the lid. I do like it. If you make a whole container, that''s enough loose tea to have small pieces of your tea floating out of the top of the filter if you make a whole pitcher.

3. I use a java bop for my iced tea and haven''t found even a speck of leaf in the finished product. Great sized mesh.

4. I use the hot water method and it stays HOT for a really long time. At first I was annoyed that I had to wait so long for it to cool down before chilling it. Then I realized that it makes it great for a table pitcher for hot beverages. I can wait for something that performs a dual-purpose well.

5. Great for using herbs, etc. to infuse just about anything. Ideas? Please share!

Buy Takeya 64-Ounce Iced Tea Maker with Silicone Handle Now

I had been looking at this and my wife bought it for me recently. Yes, it''s plastic, but that''s not a big deal to me. In fact, the plastic seems to be pretty sturdy, and not thin/cheap. The filter is a plastic mesh, so we''ll see how long that holds up. I use it for brewing black loose tea and it''s been good so far. Just boil water in the electric kettle and pour in. I only use around 3 teaspoons of black tea in the filter when I fill this thing up and it''s fine. I could probably get away with a little less, but I''m still experimenting. The filter unit screws into the the lid, which then screws on to the top. After 5 min, pull it out and rinse the filter. My electric kettle only holds up to 1.7 liters of water, so it doesn''t quite fill up the pitcher. It''s actually perfect, because I put ice cubes in to top it off. Then let it finish cooling on the counter for an hour or so. After that I can put the lid on and place in the fridge to finish cooling. It does the job I wanted, which was an easy way to make a large amount, using the loose tea.

How do I cope with Heatwave 2011? With copious amounts of iced coffee, courtesy of this little Takeya gem.

I fill the tea reservoir with ground coffee (running a little water into the coffee as I fill the reservoir), then fill the pitcher with water (leaving about 3/4" air gap), screw the cap/coffee reservoir on, and let it "perk" overnight in the refrigerator. Perfect iced coffee!

Nearly all the bad reviews are from people who didn''t read the description carefully enough and thought they were getting a glass pitcher. "AcraGlass" is a trade name for clear acrylic. Yes, the name is misleading, but when the description says "more durable than glass" and "BPA-free", a careful reader can infer it''s a type of plastic.

I love that the mesh on the infuser is very fine. Even when brewing red tea, which is very small, only a small amount of the finest dust makes it through. The lid seals tight, or opens for pouring with 1/4 turn, so it''s easy to keep your tea fresh. And it''s narrow enough to fit easily in a fridge door.

The bottom of the infuser is solid plastic, which allows you to press down with a spoon to extract the liquid from your tea leaves without worries about damaging the mesh. But I will say the mesh is so fine and delicate that I do worry about how it will hold up over time. The solid bottom also makes it slightly harder to rinse out, because you can''t run water straight through the bottom. But that''s a minor quibble.

I''ve had mine about a month, and so far I''ve just rinsed it well and let it air dry. No problems with scratching or clouding... yet.

Now that I have this pitcher, I''m able to easily enjoy iced versions of the same loose teas that I like to drink hot during the winter.

Norpro 1.5 Gallon Stainless Steel Jumbo Compost Keeper

Norpro 1.5 Gallon Stainless Steel Jumbo Compost KeeperI have had this compost keeper for a few weeks now and I am happy to report that it works exceptionally well! I wanted something that looked good enough that I could leave it on my counter, but that would not take up to much space, smell bad, or attract fruit flies. This container fulfills all of these requirements. After reading through other canister reviews it seemed like several people had trouble with either loose or tight fitting lids. The lid on mine fits perfectly!! I can open it with one hand, but it does not rattle around at all. The pivoting handle has also been very helpful when carrying it outside to the large compost bin. This canister is also the perfect size being 1.5 gallons. Our previous 1 gallon plastic container often filled up a bit to quickly that it required frequent emptying; not to mention it absorbed a great deal of odor, which this keeper does not. It seems like the 2 gallon container would fill up to slowly that things would start to decompose to much in the house before needing emptying. The 1.5 is the perfect compromise between the two and does well with emptying approximately once a week. The odor filter also works better than I even thought it would. I have been exceptionally happy with this compost keeper and hopefully you will be too!

I''m very disappointed in this compost pail. It''s handsome, solid stainless steal, but it''s a fruit fly factory! The lid is poorly designed--it contains a large chamber that holds a charcoal filter, which as it turns out is an excellent media for fruit flies to lay their eggs upon--and holes for them to escape. The eggs hatch and then the new fruit flies exit the lid through the air holes in the top--right into your kitchen. Lots of flies mind you. Nasty! I tried dumping the pail more frequently, washing the whole thing out periodically, etc. Nothing really worked to cut down on the fruit flies getting loose in the house. The only solution I''ve come up with is to wrap the whole lid in aluminum foil. This keeps the flies from getting into the lid charcoal chamber and out the vent holes. It works, but defeats the purpose of having an expensive, nice looking compost pail. If I had to do it over again I would get a cheaper pail without holes in the lid.

This is a great counter top composter. I''ve had it on my counter for the past three months and I have yet to see a fruit fly or smell an awful smell. I''m very happy with this product. If you''re worried that you won''t use it or that it will smell, you''re sadly mistaken. Just place this container next to your cutting board and you''ll be so happy that you have it. No more running out to the trash with half full bags because you chopped an onion. I can honestly say I''ve started eating more vegetables and fruit because I own this product.

This is the perfect size for my household (two adults who go through a lot of veggies, eggs and other similarly compostable material) it appears to be larger than average as far as lidded compost bins go, but it''s absolutely the thing for my house. The lid fits well, but even if it was loose, we''re using degradable compost bags with the keeper (Norpro Degradable Compost Bags, 50 Pieces), so there''s no issues at all there. The bags go perfectly with the bin, and all in all it makes such an excellent alternative to our old, awful and stinky "solution" of piling up our food scraps in some random container and then dumping it into the food waste bin outside. No stink yet, no flies, no mess. The lid picks up fingerprints, but if that''s its only issue, I''m happy. It seems very sturdy; sturdier than the photograph made it appear, even.

I bought this product several weeks ago from Amazon to replace a plastic bin that had cracked. Although I think it is expensive, it is sturdy and a good value. It has no parts to break or wear out and should last forever (or very close). It is well made with a good-fitting lid. Being stainless steel, it does not retain odors and it holds a lot so you do not have to empty it often. We have a septic system so I use my garbage disposal sparingly. All of our food wastes go into this pail (I cook family meals daily), and I only empty it a couple of times per week into a recycle trash bin. The handle is very useful. I use 3-gallon compostable bags (BioBag) to line the pail and they fit perfectly inside. I highly recommend this product.
