iRobot Verro 600 Pool-Cleaning Robot

iRobot Verro 600 Pool-Cleaning RobotI bought this directly from irobot and ran it every 3 or 4 days for about 3 weeks before returning it to irobot. The technology is great and when the filter bag didn''t fall out, the pool was incredibly clean it really does sparkle, I was able to cut back on the number of hours the filter ran, and I noticed that I had to add less chemicals. The amount of slime that collects in the filter bag from an apparently clean pool is proof of how much it''s picking up. My pool never looked so nice and I only had to drop it in, go have dinner, come back and put it away.

Unfortunately, the build quality from irobot is poor. The tabs that hold the filter bag in place are too loose and the filter often falls out when you lift the robot out of the water dumping everything back in. The plastic protective cage between the filter and the motor has the same problem.

After some web research, I discovered that irobot licenses this technology from Aquabot. I returned this to irobot, and purchased an Aquabot T2 which I found for about the same price after shopping around. The T2 is nearly the same robot, but appears to have a much better build quality and a few enhancements over the irobot model (for instance the scrubbing pads don''t soak up water like the irobot''s causing it to smell funky between cleanings). In addition, my local pool store is an Aquabot repair shop, so I won''t be shipping it out if something goes wrong and I need it fixed under warranty.

I really wanted to like irobot''s version I like some of their other products and this simply looked friendlier (we dubbed it scrubby). Unfortunately, for this cost, I wanted three or more years of trouble-free use out of it, and I didn''t see that happening.

After using this all summer, I am very happy with this robot. It does a great job at cleaning our 16''x32'' vinyl in-ground pool, even with the solar cover on. I''ve only found a few minor drawbacks. Yes, if you don''t snap the bag in just right, it can pop out while cleaning, making it have less suction. If the filter is left on while vacuuming, the robot can''t clean around the return jets. And you must keep that bag clean when you are done vacuuming.

We store it in A Rubbermaid Patio Storage Bench, Dark Platinum #3764 and it just fits. The bench looks great and we can keep the robot by the pool.

The robot looked promosing at first. It certainly made its rounds in the pool. After taking it out an hour and a half later I noticed the bottom popped out at some time. It collected some of the sand and minor particles, but left the majority in the pool. We tried it 6 times with the same results.

I have a fiberglass pool and the robot does a nice job of cleaning the bottom and sides. It does not do well at negotiating the 3 steps, (gets 1/2 way up the first step and comes back down). Cleaning the included pouch style filter is a royal PIA with muck getting stuck in the corners of the pouch. The included cloth bag has torn at the seam 4 times and needed replacement. I''d wait for the next version.

I used this for only one time. It stopped working second time I put it into the pool, and had to return it.

Crystal Quest 1 GPM Ultraviolet Water Sterilizer System Save 21% Off

Crystal Quest 1 GPM Ultraviolet Water Sterilizer SystemI recently bought a foreclosure home. There was a reverse osmosis filtration unit under the sink already. Not sure how long the unit was not in operation, I replaced all filters and RO membrane just for sure.

I used to buy filtered water from the RO machine outside Sprout. I compared the process and found two UV sterilizers in the RO coin-operated machine, before and after reverse osmosis step. Why they need two? I can only assume, if one UV light went out, there is a backup.

I decided to add a UV sterlizer to my unit. The first one I bought from Ebay. The glass chamber was broken when I opened the package. I contacted the seller, he asked for photo of the broken merchandise, then sent me a replacement UV lamp a week later. But the problem I have was the glass chamber protecting the UV lamp, not the UV lamp. Finally, the seller agreed to refund the purchase upon my return of the product.

I appreciate the Crystal Quest UV sterlizer a lot more after that experience.

In comparison, Crystal Quest UV sterilizer is very well constructed, carefully packaged. And, I really like the stainless stell casing. So far, the unit is working beautifully.

We use well water. I like the convenience of the sterlizer. No harmful chemicals. Change the UV light once a year. We can handle that for our peace of mind in bacterial control and safety of our drinking water.

Buy Crystal Quest 1 GPM Ultraviolet Water Sterilizer System Now

funny thing about UV light it breaks down the DNA/RNA in bacteria for sterilization and imparts energy from the light to nullify viruses. It does the same thing to the surrounding holder and there isn''t a UV-PROOF plastic that can take a year''s worth of exposure before breakdown (where water squirts out of the crack in the plastic making a big mess)

So if your SYSTEM came with a plastic uv light holder watch out! someday the plastic will fail and you''ll have RO water (at least it is clean) running all over the place.

But if your inside of the holder shows signs of yellowing or discoloration at the time of relamping (yearly for most of this size UV system) consider just replacing your plastic housing, bulb, and ballast that came with the unit with a new one. They plug right in and you don''t need to be a plumber to insert the tubing.

Stainless steel is unaffected by uv exposure and should last for years!

This was an easy install that went inline after my ro unit. the lamps are on ebay for 15 dollars so shop around as this company wanted 65.00. looking at the water under a microscope now shows that I am drinking dead germs ...oh well one more filter to go! also the first shot of water from the ro tap is very hot if it has not been used for an hour or so. well made item that does all it claims.

WaterChef SF-7C Premium Shower Filter System Save 10% Off

WaterChef SF-7C Premium Shower Filter System
  • Powerful 2-Stage System with Thermal Guard for Superior Chlorine Reduction
  • NSF Certified (NSF/ANSI Standard 177 for Chlorine Reduction)
  • Deluxe Shower Wand with Adjustable Spray Patterns (including Pulsating Massage)
  • Hand-Held and Stationary Positions (Perfect for people AND pets.)
  • Anti-Clog Rubber Spray Nozzles

I wasn''t sure what to expect when ordering this product, since I was unfamiliar with the brand. I read the reviews and did some research on the filter, and after about 2 weeks of use, I am VERY happy with it.

Filter 5 stars: The filter alone was worth every penny! I can already tell the difference. The water has a "softer " feel, and no more sulfur and other chemical smells!

Installation 5 stars: Extremely easy to install, no tools needed and I have noticed no leaking unlike some other "cheaper" brands.

Quality 5 starts: High quality materials.

Water Flow 4 stars: This shower head did not produce as high of a water flow as my previous Original Waterpik brand. If you like a more gentle water flow then this product is definitely for you!

If you like a more forceful water flow, then look at something else like the Waterpik brand.

Side Note/Tip: If you have an old Waterpik handheld brand, the head piece will thread perfectly onto the threads of this one, giving you increased water pressure! To match the Brushed Nickel, I purchased one of the Waterpik brushed nickel models. The brushed nickel color was not a perfect match, but it did fit perfectly! and NO LEAKS! :)

Overall, I would definitely recommend this product.

Same thing that happened to Amalie below happened to me: the plastic bottom cover of the filter either had a small crack in one of the seams, or it broke the first time I turned the water on. The crack was so small that it was invisible to the naked eye, but with the faucet on a strong pressured stream of water emerged from one of the seams.

I''m in the process of returning it now. Will try one more. Very happy with the construction, other than the plastic bottom cover of the filter housing. And considering the seemingly solid construction of the rest of the unit, I am surprised they went with plastic for a compartment cover that would be under pressure. . .

Definitely a quality control or design issue.

***UPDATE***

I did reorder and am happy to report no problems with the replacement shower head . Would be a five-star rating if not for the defective first unit.

We''ve had this WaterChef product for about 3 months, and during use, it''s easily noticeable for my wife and I to smell in this case the absence of chlorine in the steamed air. I would say the effect on skin is perhaps less noticeable, but knowing that the chlorine is being filtered out, it''s worth the health benefits.

For those that don''t know about NSF certification, NSF International is an internationally recognized organization that, among other functions, performs audits, certifies individual products, and develops standards for health specifications. You can rest assured that, having been qualified, this product has been tested and verified to reduce the harmful chorines in tap water.

I have had experience (2+ years) with another shower filter (Aquasana) before this one, and the effect of that was very similar. The reason we changed was because (whether it was normal wear & tear or slightly weak plastic construction) the housing ended up cracking and breaking. It was made with plastic, so I''m hoping the WaterChef may hold up better.

Now I''ve also had a unique situation, wherein customer service comes into play. The shower''s pipe from the wall ended up breaking off at the threading going into this product''s housing (the pipe was definitely old), and there was no way for me to be able to get it out (I went to Home Depot just to check if it was possible). On the off-chance that I could get some assistance from the WaterChef people, I contacted them, sent them a picture, and explained the situation. I will clarify here that this was no fault of the product, and I also let them know that I wasn''t blaming them. In any case, a customer service representative quickly contacted me, and offered to send me a replacement for the housing at no charge to myself. Excellent, excellent customer service.

As a last word, I will say that, having had to use a shower the past week or so without filtration, it is easy for us to notice the chlorine smell again. This product is definitely worth it.

This shower system is one of the more attractive ones on the market, but unfortunately the base of the canister which holds the filter was very thin and cracked the first day. All other parts of the filter were very sturdy. Customer service was prompt and courteous in refunding my money.

So after returning a defective item and ordering a new one, I had a bad start with this product. The unit doesn''t seem to be very high quality. I ordered a nickel brushed unit to match the rest of the things in my room, but the handle itself and some parts of the filter container was not well "brushed". The cap on the filter container is made of plastic, and feels cheap to touch. The removable shower head has a weird deisgn to it. Unlike most removable shower heads, the catch on this one is very inconvinently designed. Instead of just sliding onto the base, you have to "hook" the head on the catch. Also the shower head itself is very cheap looking. The water shooting out of the head isn''t 100% straight because the plastic molding of the head is not perfect.

The positive aspects are that the product is pleasant to view from few feet away, and I know the water is coming out cleaner. I used to smell this tilex sort of smell, but the smell is all gone now. Also the filter replacement for this product is cheaper than the other products.

Mr. Coffee ISD13 12-Cup Replacement Decanter Save 31% Off

Mr. Coffee ISD13 12-Cup Replacement Decanter for FT and IS Series, BlackI ordered this replacement because the original one would leak from the black piece, water gets trapped in between the glass & the black top piece (not lid) and drips down the side after turning right side up after filling water tank. This replacement does the same thing so I believe it to be a manufacture flaw. This is the only replacement I have found to fit my coffee maker:(

I purchased this decanter as a replacement for one that I broke. This decanter is poorly designed. The opening is too small to make cleaning easy, and water tends to get trapped underneath the plastic ring surrounding the opening. The only reason I bought the replacement is because it was cheaper than buying a whole new coffee maker. If you are considering this coffee maker I would recommend moving on to another choice.

Well, after 2 years of nearly daily use my carafe broke. Reading the other reviews made me realize that I wasn''t the only one dealing with the annoying problem of the water/coffee dripping from the rim every time you poured liquid out. I wish it wouldn''t do that.... it drives me crazy having to reach for a rag every time I pour a cup of coffee!

I must say, I''m extremely disappointed in this product. In less than 12 months, I''ve already had to replace the damn thing 3 times because the glass keeps cracking due to the heat. How can the maker fail to make a coffee pot that can withstand hot temperature? it''s absolutely ridiculous. Couple that with the fact the rim is too small and it''s difficult to get your hand in the pot to wash it out, and that the handle has been loose on all 3 pots, I can safely say I''m never purchasing a Mr. Coffee coffee maker again.

This is the second replacement pot we had to buy for this pot. It is so expensive, and if you don''t treat it right, it''ll shatter. DO NOT leave the maker on with less than half an inch of coffee in the pot for any lenghth of time, as this will weaken the integrity of the pot. Saying that, this is the correct pot and I still would have bought it.

MultiPure MP750SC NEWEST MODEL Countertop Water Filter Save 4% Off

MultiPure MP750SC NEWEST MODEL Countertop Water FilterWe''ve had our filter for 3 years now. The water tastes so clean. This model was great for us as I wanted a filter, but didn''t think I had a place to mount the filter under the sink. We lived with it on the countertop for a year until we decided we loved having it, but were really tired of having it out in the open. Turns out drilling a hole to add multi-pure''s filter faucet was not a big deal at all. A contractor drilled a hole in our marble, no problem, and move the unit under the sink.

This is an absolutely excellent water filter.

First, the model I own is basically identical to the one pictured, except for it''s output fitting, which on mine cannot be converted to under sink use. Also I did not buy it through amazon. I actually bought it before there even was an Amazon.com. I purchased it through Multi-pure''s reseller program in 1996. Yes, that is right, I have owned my 750 for 16 years! Today It looks just as it looked when I purchased it, and most importantly, it''s output is still excellent, which is the main point. Another poster complained that it doesn''t look like the image, and my thoughts are that they got the wrong filter as the MP 750 line is flat bottomed and sits directly on the counter, or this one, which can be converted to be installed under the counter. (my mom has had this exact model for about 8 years) I have always had mine on the counter. The company recommends to replace the filter when the flow slows, or at least once a year. I have actually gone up to two years between replacement filters and have not noticed any issues whatsoever. The thing is is that the filter cartridges are not cheap, currently around $60 a pop. But for 2 years of excellent tasting water for drinking and cooking and giving water to my dog, it feels like a bargain. Also if you are a coffee aficionado, this water is really really good. No bad tastes imparted to your brew.

I realize I am being over the top here, but in this day and age to have one product that I use every single day for 16 years feels like a complete anomaly and I can''t help raving about it. No, I do not sell them, but I probably should as my mom has bought one as well as several friends over the years.

Finally, there is zero comparison to the crap plastic ones that attach directly to your faucet, or the brita jugs. The output volume is much higher and the water tastes far better and you can expect to keep this one for a very long time, thereby reducing its cost significantly when spread out over time.

Highly recommended.

Buy MultiPure MP750SC NEWEST MODEL Countertop Water Filter Now

First off the picture you see here is NOT what you will be getting. They seemed to have decided not to update the photo to what their newer model looks like and they''ve done that for a reason. There is no way anyone would by this based on it''s looks. The bottom of the filter is not flat like in the pictureIt''s round so that it absolutely cannot stand on its own. If you try it will roll off the counter. To fix this the company sends you a plastic base that you''re supposed to put this filter on so that it doesn''t roll over. This plastic casing is black and ugly and as if that wasn''t enough it actually adds a whole 3 inches of height to the filter. The result is that this filter is now extra huge and literally only 3.5 inches away from hitting the bottom of my upper cabinets. When people come over and come into the kitchen they always ask what the huge monstrosity is beside my sink that towers over the toaster oven I have near by. Having said that It does filter water well. the flow rate is fantastic! The water tastes greata little harder than with my last water filter, but I know that when many minerals get taken out of water it can often taste a bit harder.

I live on a ranch and we filter the water from the well. Pentek 25/1 has proven it''s worth in that our water arrives at the tap with little in the way of suspended particles. It seems that the varing grade material of the filter does a good job of removing the particles progressively as the water moves thru the filter. I will buy again so long as Pentek keeps up it''s quality.

I believe reviews should be about the product, and for this product... it''s great.

Struggled with multiple filters, have to change them all the time, more complicated setup. Bought this and a housing, and now I use one filter, change it every 3-4 months, and don''t worry otherwise. Great filter, I''m buying more!

There is a discrepancy. "Part Number RS3-DS12-05 Item Package Quantity 1" and lower it states "RS3-DS12-05 Features: -Set of two replacement cartridges."-I am still confused as to where the error was.. the product description or in shipping. • 5 Micron Carbon Briquette, combining the long filter life of carbon block with the dirt-hold capacit
  • High porosity design helps prevent plugging
  • Perfect for residential, food service, commercial and industrial applications
  • Manufactured entirely from FDA-compliant materials

THESE ARE GOOD FILTERS AT A GOOD PRICE. I BOUGHT MINE AT AMAZON.COM FOR ABOUT $20.00 EACH. MY WATER IS CLEAR AND ODOR FREE. WHEN THEY SAY CARBON BLOCK THEY MEAN CARBON BLOCK THE FILTER IS ONE SOLID PIECE OF CARBON. ONE BORKE IN SHIPMENT. I STILL USED IT. I PUT THE 2 PIECES BACK TOGHETER. WHEN THE FILTER HOUSING SCREWS ON IT TIGHTENED UP ON THE 2 PIECES AND HELD THEN IN PLACE QUITE WELL. [ABOUT 3." BROKE OFF ONE END.] THERE IS A FINE MESH ARROUND THE OUTSIDE WHICH TAKES OUT THE PARTICALE AND MAKES THE CARBON LAST LONGER. THE CARBON TAKES OUT THE TASTE AND ODORS. I HAVE WELL WATER WHICH IS PRETTY CLEAN TO START WITH BUT I WANTED THE ADDED INSURANCE OF THE CARBON FILTER. I HAVE IT IN A WHOLE HOUSE FILTER HOUSING IN THE BASEMENT. I PLAN ON CHANGING IT ONCE A YEAR OR WHEN THE PRESSURE DROP ACROSS THE FILTER INCREASES ABOUT 6 TO 8 PSI. I HAVE A PRESSURE GAGE BEFORE AND AFTER THE FILTER SO I CAN SEE WHEN THE PRESSURE DROP STARTS TO INCREASE. I CHECK THE PRESURE WITH ONE FAUCET [THE KITCHEN FAUCET] WIDE OPEN.

I live on the Big Island where rainwater catchment is a big thing. Utilizing a 20micron sediment then having this Pentek 5micron carbon block after it is so perfect. That is the typical steps needed if you plan on using UV purification (so you can drink your rainwater!

If the particulate size is larger than 5micron, you will not have the proper disinifection through the UV sterilizer. I have been utilizing this setup (20 micron sediment to a 5micron carbon block to UV lights) for 4 years with success! I change my filters once every 3 months.

PUR MineralClear Faucet Refill RF-9999 (6 Pack) Save 2% Off

PUR MineralClear Faucet Refill RF-9999, 6 Pack
  • Certified to remove 10 times more contaminants than the leading brand''s pitcher filter
  • Removes 99 percent of lead and microbial cysts and reduces many other contaminants that may be in water
  • First leading brand shown to reduce trace levels of pharmaceuticals (pharmaceutical reduction is not certified by NSF/ANSI or state standard)
  • Filters water over natural minerals for a crisp, refreshing taste
  • Replaces previous three-stage filter

I have been using these for about 8 years now and moved to the 3 stage when they came out. I use them primarily for drinking water and cooking. They typically last about 3 months for me. I go through a LOT of drinking water and probably less than average for cooking.

Based on using them on two different water systems, I also believe the quality of the water going in makes a huge difference in the life of the filter... but then that really is just common sense isn''t it? For instance, using it the week after a city wide fire hydrant flushing will use one up very quickly. I can''t speak to what that means to anyone else, but it tells me it is WORKING!

As another reviewer mentioned... ONE HOT WATER EPISODE WILL KILL A FILTER! It is a shame it is this way, but I have on two occasions had someone turn on hot water and let it run through the filter for a while. The filter would stop flowing within a day after that. The instructions warn against this, but accidents happen.

On the other hand, I had one that would not flow at all right out of the box. I called the 800 number on the box, told them what happened and that I had put in a different filter, which worked, and then tried this one again... showing that I had done my due diligence, and I had a replacement in the mail within a week, no cost, without having to return the failed one.

Also, if you buy the 6 pack, they are under $10 each.

It absolutely DOES make the water taste and smell better than plain tap water.

I''ve been using these filters since 2005, and I have been ordering them online in 6 packs from this site since 2009.

I''m not sure what is going on, but after the second filter change in this most recent purchase, I''ve come to the conclusion that these filters have been "changed" such that their performance has dramatically declined. Simply put, my water now tastes POORLY.

The first thing I noticed upon receipt of this latest 6-pack, is that the outer wrapping of the individual filters is not shrink/vacuum--packed. In all previous orders these filters where vacuum-packed. Secondly, there is no product labeling on the same wrappers, which was not the case in previous orders for they were labeled. Third, the filters feel "less heavy" and feel similar to salt shakers, in that one can tell there are loose granules inside (some of which appear loosely leaked inside the packaging--white round granules), which I never noticed before. Finally, the best and most important indicator that something has been altered is the taste of the hard (and very same) water for which I''ve been using these since 2005...it tastes poorly (bitter, chemical-like taste) compared to the "neutral" clean taste of said filtered-water previously, and there is a slight residue/cloudiness visible in appearance in the water, whereas it was clear with previous filters. Another indicator is the increased left-over deposits in my coffee maker (also the coffee now tastes bad). These filters are obviously NOT filtering/cleaning my water as in previous years.

Finally, along with the change in package appearance of the 6-pack box, I noticed that these are also (now?) "Made in Mexico" which I don''t recall was the case of my previous orders...can''t say for sure, but the product was consistent in performance (and appearance) since 2005...(I''ll also say that I was using the Pur 2 stage water filters successfully for 5 years previously).

I haven''t contacted the manufacturer, which I will do so in order to get their response to the above-mentioned issues. I shall update when I do so.

Until then, I can NO LONGER recommend this product, which was so wonderfully working for me for the last few years. (I haven''t checked local stores for comparison, and will do so).

Until I find some answers to what happened, I don''t recommend these filters. I will return with an update when I get one.

IMMEDIATE UPDATE: I just called Pur at 800-787-5463 and spoke with a CS rep. His response included the following: thanking me for calling and reporting my complaints, asking me for the lot number of the filter(s) which are performing poorly, stating he would report my complaints to the appropriate department, reminding me that Pur consistently performs quality assurance tests to avoid issues (duh!), and stating that he would send me a "Buy One Get One Free" coupon which I can expect to receive within the next 2-3 weeks after I give him my address/phone number. There were communication difficulties...the CS rep had a pronounced foreign accent and admitted he was having problems hearing me. So we will see...I do intend to follow-up this call with an email.

UPDATE: Decided to contact Amazon via phone for advice with very poor results. I DO NOT recommend trying to get much resolved via phone...unless, perhaps it''s Kindle-related. However, after my 3rd attempt at contacting Amazon by email, I received a reply stating they are sending me a new 6 pack via overnight mail and are requesting a return of my remaining defective product. Very nice response this time...will follow up soon. It remains to be seen whether the 6 pack I previously ordered was a bad lot or that Pur''s filter quality has dramatically declined.

5/14/11 UPDATE: Amazon quickly sent me replacement pack and asked that remaining "old" filters be returned. The quality of water tastes somewhat improved, but it seems that Pur changed this product for the worse. After I run through the remaining 4 filters, I shall no longer buy this product. 2 STARS.

UPDATE:

A few months after I posted this, PUR finally contacted me with an intelligent response.

They apologized (again) and explained that their RF-9999 DOES in fact contain ion-exchange resin.

I don''t know whether or not I should be surprised that it took them this long to come up with a response. Perhaps they assume that most people will have no idea what ion-exchange resin is and will therefore not ask about it or look for indication of it on the packaging.

Also, other people have responded to my review with useful comments. Check them out. For instance, one commenter explains this product''s certifications.

My original review:

I own a PUR faucet attachment that takes the RF-9999 filter replacement cartridge. Out of concern for my baby girl''s health, I wanted to make sure that the water we mix in her formula is free of lead and other heavy metals. The copper pipes that carry water in your house have enough lead content (to make them flexible) that water sitting in the lines for a few hours can build up unhealthy levels of lead that can cause all manner of developmental problems in children. For your health and that of your children, it''s best to be sure to flush your water lines before consuming tap water. Take a shower in the morning and run your faucets a little before you make coffee and mix formula. (Save the flush water in old milk jugs for watering your plants.) As added protection, it''s also a good idea to use a water filter with ion-exchange resin that will filter out residual heavy metals.

I noticed that the product description of the RF-9999 on Amazon.com mentioned that it includes ion-exchange resin. But when I looked at the filter''s packaging and the PUR web site, there was no mention of it, although the product does claim certain certifications regarding reduction of various heavy metals, including lead. According to PUR, the RF-9999 filter contains something to trap sediment, activated carbon that they claim also reduces lead, and some minerals. I spoke with a hydrologist from the U.S. Geological Survey about this, and he explained that activated carbon is largely ineffective at trapping heavy metals and that none of the other components of the filter would have any effect either; only a filter with ion-exchange resin would be able to significantly reduce the lead content.

Thus, I contacted PUR to inquire as to whether or not the RF-9999 contained ion-exchange resin, and if not, I wanted to know how it filtered lead and to inform them that Amazon.com''s description might be inaccurate. First, I got an automated response that seemed to have nothing to do with my question, so in accordance with their instructions, I replied, explaining that my question had not been answered. The reply to this was that they were sorry I was having trouble with their product (I had not reported any problems), and that they''d be happy to answer any questions I had. So, apparently, they lost my question. So I replied to that, repeating my question. The next respond quoted my previous email (with the question in it), and again apologized for the trouble I was having with their product, and told me that they''d be happy to answer any questions I had. I responded again, heading my email with another copy of my question. This time, I finally got something resembling an answer, but it was a brief and vague statement that the information on their web site was accurate. They said nothing to reassure me that there was anything in their product that could account for their claim of being able to reduce lead in the water.

Perhaps the people at PUR I was corresponding with were just incompetent. I can''t expect the customer service contact to know anything about chemistry or hydrology, but it irks me when they don''t take my question seriously enough to inquire internally to get me a proper answer, especially when I''m trying to take steps to safeguard my family''s health. Besides Amazon.com making inaccurate statements about this product (probably told to them by someone at PUR), PUR''s web site and packaging make claims that do not appear to stand up to basic scientific scrutiny. As far as I can determine, there''s absolutely nothing in the RF-9999 that would be able to reduce lead content in water by any appreciable margin.

If you are buying water filter products, then you''re probably doing it not just to improve the taste of the water, but because you have a clue that there are things in your city or well tap water that you might not want to drink. Be fully informed about these things, and never trust your health to product claims that you haven''t verified.

Don''t let the price scare you away (it''s actually a good deal). My local water has a displeasing taste/smell & this filter takes that water & turns it into .. well .. great tasting water. This filter will work on any of PUR''s faucet mounts.

It seems two reviewers below have major malfunctions in the operation of their filters; saying they only last a week or so, or do not work as advertised. It could be improper installation of the filter, or running a hundred gallons of water through them in two weeks.

I have been using these filters for years with no problems.

CeraGrav LP-5 Replacement filter

CeraGrav LP-5 Replacement filter
  • 0.9 Micron absolute - 100% removal of cysts - 99.99% pathogenic bacteria
  • Chlorine reduction 95% - Organics reduction 95%
  • Cleanable for prolonged life - Silver-impregnated to prevent bacteria growth
  • you get 1 2" by 7" CeraGrav Filter Element - Cerasyl ceramic outer shell-coconut GAC core
  • Comes with washer and wingnut

I bought one of these when I bought the CeraGrav LP-5 Gravity Filter system; it was on Amazon''s ''buy together'' recommendation, and I thought it''d be nice for a backup. Because of the slowness of the filters, I ended up using this with the two that came with the filter.

This ''replacement'' filter comes in a plain white box, with a sticker stating it''s a replacement filter. It''s whiter than the Doulton''s that came with the filter system, and, unlike them (which state they''re "Made In England"), these have no text on the pipe end. The washers and plastic seem a bit smaller, but it could be my imagination. The official Doulton filters came in a box listing all the things they filter as well as their model; these don''t: I''m not even sure they''re ''supersterasyl'' ones (beyond the seller stating they are). (For a picture, look at the CeraGrav LP-5 page, where you can see how this is different than the other two in my system.)

I don''t know if the differences are merely cosmetic, but I''m less than enthused about not knowing what I''m actually buying, especially when it comes to something this important.

Update: After a month of use, I haven''t had any issues --I haven''t gotten sick off the pond water I''ve been dumping into my cistern, at any rate.

Product arrived very rapidly and in great shape. The filters work very well. They take all of the poor taste out and provide a very drinkable water. I have a 3 -1/2 gallon filtering system and it takes all night for the filter to process that amount of water. This shows me that the filter is really working in a fine fashion and not letting larger sized items through the filter. The water is clear and great tasting. I highly recommend these filters. I could speed up the process by using more than one filter at a time, however we don''t need the speed right now with only two individuals drawing on the supply. I will be ordering additional filters as a backup since I had expected my new water system to come with a set of filters and it did not. This order was supposed to be for backup but was installed immediately.

Essick Air 696-400 Variable Speed Whole House Humidifier

Essick Air 696-400 Variable Speed Whole House HumidifierThe good news is, it humidifies. That''s what I bought it for and that''s what it does. The level of humidity is adjustable, allowing the unit to automatically cycle on and off as needed. And yes, you can adjust the fan speed, but getting it anywhere near the upper range makes it sound like a B29 taking off. IT''S LOUD! I leave it on med-low and it''s not bad at all.

It has two plastic 2.6 gallon water bottles and at the med-low fan speed I use, I go through about 1 bottle per day. It keeps the rooms close to it quite comfortable, but rooms farther away don''t get much. Your mileage will vary depending on humidifier location, floor plan, and normal air circulation.

As far as being built "sturdy" (as one reviewer pointed out), I have to disagree. The entire housing is made of plastic. Without the water bottles in it, it''s so light that on a hard floor it easily rolls away with the lightest bump. Unless you are on carpet, I recommend NOT installing the castors that come with it. The weakest part of the whole unit is the stupid lid. It''s constantly falling off it''s hinges when I''m replacing the water bottles. It''s just poorly designed.

I highly recommend buying the optional "air cleaner filter" (model #1051) that fits on the back. It helps clear your house of dust and pollen and also makes your internal wick last longer. For allergy sufferers, this is an absolute MUST.

Speaking of making wicks last longer, it wasn''t until I read the owner''s manual that I found out soft water is NOT recommended as it''s supposedly not good for the wick. Oh well. The only NON-softened water I have is my outdoor hose and there''s NO WAY I''m going out there every morning in the snow to fill my humidifier bottles!

All in all, I give it a 5 in performance, 4 in construction, and a 2 in convenience. (Hey, refilling and lugging 22 lbs of water every morning gets old!) Since performance is really what we want out of it, it gets an overall score of 4 stars from me.

BTW, use about 1/2 as much of the anti-bacterial additive as the bottle recommends and it does just fine.

Cheers!

ON the plus side the unit is capable of putting a lot of moisture into the air. In the first 24 hours of running it put almost 15 gallons out.

The negatives stack up fast mostly due to poor finish quality.

1) The stain on the top cover has drip marks on it and portions of it look like a chemical was spilled on it removing its luster.

2) The back of the unit is not stained but is white and in the directions its says to leave the unit 4" from any wall which means you do see the back of the unit. The hinges on the back which hold the cover in place and stick up were not painted and they are clearly visible.

3) The unit is made of plastic which is to be expected. However the panels of the unit are so thin that they were all warped. The top is ill fitting at best and the front panel has a clear bow to it.

4) Its loud on anything more then the lowest settings you cannot carry on a conversation on the telephone in the same room with it.

To sum up: It looks like junk but humidifies well.

I''m off to go find a place to hide this from sight. Wish it was as pretty as the picture.

The product arrived damaged, not from shipping damage, but from packing at the factory. Too damaged to use. Dealer said they didn''t want it back. It''s a good thing, because it was replaced by a unit that wouldn''t run. I took the fan unit (which wan''t damaged) out of the damaged unit and put it in the second unit and it runs, but only at a low fan speed. Anything higher causes too much vibration noise. Also, both units we received were poorly finished, with the base being several shades lighter than the cover, which matches the picture on the box. It looks like they only gave the bottom one coat of stain. Thanks to the dealer who refunded our money. My email with complaints directly to the manufacturer got no response.

I received this a couple days ago and so far so good. The humidity has gone from 40 to 50% in our house and it is much more comfortable. We do have a humidifier built into our furnace, but the high-efficiency furnaces just aren''t on long enough to put out much water.

One caveat on this unit design with the angled corners the right and left bottles are not interchangeable. With a rectangular type unit, when the right bottle empties you can switch the full left one to the right, fill the empty bottle and put it in the left. This way you were constantly cycling through fresh water fills while only needing to refill one bottle at a time. With this angle corner design unit, you really need to allow both bottles to empty, or at least refill both when you do refill in order to ensure fresh water is always feeding in. This also can cause waste of any antibacterial solution being used.

Other than that, works great and I would recommend.

This is a great humidifier that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but extremely functional. It is very sturdy and the craftsmanship is wonderful. You can even adjust the output to fit any house, big or small. Great buy!

I love this product and have used one on my kitchen sink for the last 25 years. Sadly this type of NSA filter is no longer being made. I was SO happy to find one from second level distributor through Amazon. They last 3 years. When this one wears out I will have to make a change and nothing seems to stack up against this unit.
