Despite the fact that the lid broke as soon as I took this out of the box warning: be very careful with the lid I love this pitcher. We have really horrid water and this pitcher takes all of the bad taste out of the water. I can''t see it taking all the dangerous metals and particles and chemicals out of the water but I trust that it does that too. I''m sure that the taste of the water should be the least of my concerns but frankly I love a really neutral glass of water. Water is what I drink all day allergic to milk, won''t drink sugar pop or chemical pop, coffee makes me hyper. So to have a great pitcher of water in the fridge all the time is fantastic. I glued the cover it broke again. I called for a replacement they didn''t have one and although I wish it weren''t broken ..I still stand by my 5 star rating. I can only say the water is worth the badly designed and broken lid. But I wish they''d replace the lid.it really does work, I keep regularity, eat less, feel a difference in concentration/ ''brain fog'' (Hashimoto), settles my nerves at work. When i drink the alternative "neutral" water, I feel sick. May be a scam for others, but I am sold! This is a great filter pitcher. I love it..the water tastes cleaner, softer, just better water. I use already purified water that I like but am not just confident enough to use directly. So I clean it thru here and then use that definitely cleaner and fresher water for drinking and cooking. Love it.Wellness Carafe (2.3 Litres)
Black & Decker HC100 Home Cafe Single Serve Coffee Brewing System
The construction of this appliance is truly a joke. There isn''t a piece of metal in the entire piece. You get a thin piece of aluminum that your mug sits on while it brews...thats it.
The lever that opens the pod holder is very flimsy. And after the initial brew, the unit wouldn''t seal right, which means, no coffee. So you pop the lever up, open the pod, make sure the coffee is seated appropriately and try again. blah, blah, blah. Do this about 5 times and for no apparent reason, it would work again.
Do you like your coffee hot? Well, you won''t get it with this device. Basically, there are 2 components to a great cup of coffee: the beans and the water. The beans have already been taken care of, so all you can control is the water source. If you are using a machine like this, how dare you put tap water in it! My filtered water sits nice and chilled in my refrigerator. Well, thats a problem for this device. The coffee comes out tepid folks. Not even luke warm! I tried it straight from the tap, and it was warmer but not hot. So if you keep filtered water in your fridge, expect tepid coffee. YUCK. I must be old fashioned, I like to blow on my coffee and see the steam rise up from the cup in morning.
The coffee I was able to drink tasted very good. But again, it just wasn''t worth the hassle of messing with that stupid lever and pod configuration.
I''m off to try the Senseo and hope that it is a little better crafted.I purchased the Home Cafe at our local Walmart. It made really good coffee for nine cups. While brewing the tenth cup, it stopped mid-brew, spit at me, and then emmited a fatal gasp of acrid black smoke. The kitchen smelled of burning bakelite for the next several hours. I calmly packed up the unit and returned it to my friendly Wallyworld. I opted to replace the unit, rather than get my money back as my wife and I really liked the coffee. Grabbing another pack of coffee pods (optimistic me) we transported our new machine home. Again, following the directions by properly initiating the machine with a coffee-pod free whiz, we brewed another couple cups of delicious coffee. All went well. Then, on cup twelve a few days later (easy to keep track with the amount of pods left), again, mid-cup, another fatal gasp and spray of coffee, and silence as smoke curled up from the unit. Again, the rancid odor along with the bleak knowledge that no more delicious coffee would spew forth from this obviously poorly built unit. Head down with sadness and dejection I decided this time to call the 800 number provided in the instruction manual. After 30 minutes on hold I was finally connected to a friendly customer service rep who offered her condolences on the demise of my coffee maker. She took down the information on the deceased pot and said she was going to transfer me to another department where they would formally de-brief me in an attempt to correct the problem. 15 minutes later she came back on the phone and explained that all the "engineers" were busy, but someone would contact me within 24 hours. Three days later I received a phone call stating that no one at Black and Decker had heard of this problem Yeah, right. They were going to send me a brand new one at no expense. They only requested that I return the old one to them, and they would pay the shipping. Eagerly agreeing to these terms, we waited with great anticipation for the Big Brown Truck to pull up to our door. Approximately two weeks later it arrived on our doorstep!! Rushing to the kitchen, the appliance was carefully removed from its box. This time, it was different. What is this? The first two units were black. This one is white!!! Virginal White! Certainly a good sign. Again, the machine was ititiated with its plain water ritual, and then, with great anticipation and celebration, a Columbian Pod, yes, Columbian, was placed in the machine. Shortly thereafter another delicious cup of coffee was enjoyed. Never mind the gentle splatter of coffee on the counter. A mere minor annoyance given the rewards of the brew. As a matter of fact, eight, count them, eight more cups of delicious coffee were enjoyed with minimal splatter. Then, cup number ten was not meant to be. A sputter mid-cup. Arcing sounds from the front of the unit. Thin plumes of black smoke spiraling towards the ceiling. Gag reflex kicking in from the rancid odor. A tear forming in the corner of my eye knowing it was never meant to be. (Actually, the tear was from the smoke). I notified the woman at the other end of the toll-free number. I told her about all three coffee makers. No, I did not want another unit. It is just too much trouble to make ten cups of coffee, call in about the defective unit, wait for a replacement, make ten cups of coffee, call, wait, repeat--------. I guess I''ll try the Senseo. Maybe it will work.

I bought a Senseo about a month ago and I was so impressed that I considered buying another one for the office. However, I got a $10 off coupon in the mail for this unit, plus it was cheaper to start with. So I figured, "What the heck".I like the fact that you can use a taller cup with this unit and it is better geared towards the US palate than the Senseo (the Senseo defaults to a much smaller water-to-coffee ratio and you end up with something between coffee and espresso unless you brew a double cup.)
I also like the water resevoir on the B&D better than the Senseo. Though I suspect that the double resevoir that Senseo offers would win out over the B&D.
The Home Cafe isn''t as nicely engineered as the Senseo and it does leak when it''s brewing. It seems to be a function of how you place the pod and close it up, but you shouldn''t have to be that picky about placement. It also tends to splash as a result of the height and the way that the water comes out. If you use a taller mug, it''s not much of an issue. But if you use a standard coffee cup, you''ll need a cloth nearby for the tiny drips and splashes. It''s not like it pours gallons of coffee all over the counter, but it is a nuisance factor.
If I didn''t have a choice, I''d buy the Home Cafe and be pretty happy about it. However, having a Senseo at home, I find it difficult to tolerate the little idiosyncrasies of the Home Cafe at work.
I''d personally recommend spending the extra money for the Senseo. The Keurig is also a good option, but it''s significantly more expensive for the machine and for the k-cups. It does produce an exceptional cup of coffee, though.
Now if only all of these guys would get together and use ESE pods instead of these proprietary things we could get all the variety we want and pick the machine that worked best for us.

We tried this, and returned it a week later for the Senseo, which works terrifically so far.As stated in other reviews, the design is really flimsy plastic and can break easily.
The coffee comes out just hot enough, so unless you are going to drink immediately, it will be cold.
If you do not use a very tall coffee cup, the water jet is so high from the base that the coffee dispensing out hits the bottom of the cup and splashes out, which could burn a person as well as wasting your coffee.
And as others have stated, it is really quite loud in a vibrating noisy way. It starts off somewhat quiet but as the week goes on the noise gets louder with use. It got so loud that I ran in the kitchen and shut off my dishwasher thinking it was malfunctioning only to find that it was the coffee machine making the noise.
Needless to say, we didn''t use it after that and enjoy the Senseo much more. If you really want it, wait a few months until everyone realizes it is a piece of junk and then buy it at Big Lots or another "buy out discount store" for ten dollars, which is more than it is worth.
Thanks for reading and hope it helps. We read reviews before we buy anything, so if you have another product you can review, please do so. We can save each other a lot of time passing the word around. Good luck.

Right after unpacking it and after performing the initial "dry" brew, I made my first cup. It came out OK although I would have liked it hotter, since after a few zips my coffee was cold. While opening the lid to replace the used pod to make a second cup, I noticed that one of the pegs from the latch broke, preventing it from making a good seal, thus leaking water from all over.
I''ll have to say that this thing is really flimsy; the latch mechanism is all plastic and it really feels like it. It does not have the sturdy feel that comparable espresso machines have (these single serve coffee makers apparently have a similiar system as the the small pump expresso machines). But in all fairness, these expresso machines are much more expensive ($100-$300) than these new single serve coffee brewers that are in the $60-$70 range.
I went to the store to get a replacement, this time I inspected the competing units from other brands and paid special attention to the latching mechanism. I went with the Philips Senseo because it has a much simpler latching system and looked less prone to breaking. I took it home.
This one brewed hotter coffee, maybe because it has a preheating time of 90 seconds (vs the Home Café which does not).
The Home Café is very convenient (thus my 2 star rating), but I believe there are better options out there.

The only down side to this filter (and it may not be the filter in this case, but the fact the water in my area is so bad causing the filter to be used up faster) is it only lasted for about three months. After about three months of pure drinking water bliss, we began to notice a metallic taste coming through. We bought another one, and replaced the old with the new, and again, our drinking water is great again. I''m just not sure how long it will last this time. We are actually filling vessels and storing them so we don''t have to turn it on and off all the time hoping this might help it last longer. Also this avoids the mistake of letting hot water run into it accidentally. At close to a hundred dollars a wack, we want to try to get as much out of it as we can. We keep about ten gallons on hand at any given time, and rotate them out, refilling about every three to four days or so.
The acid water that comes out as discharge we have found has many practical and useful purposes. It makes an EXCELLENT laundry detergent booster, especially since we are chemically aware/sensitive individuals. My towels always come out SO much cleaner pouring a gallon of acid water in with the laundry. If I have especially dirty clothes too, I''ll use some and it always makes them cleaner. I''ll use the acid water on my sponges and countertops, and pour some into the toilets between washings as a better/healthier way to sanitize. The acid water also makes a fabulous mouthwash (just don''t drink it!!).
All in all, I recommend this product and I''ve been very pleased. If your health is important to you, you can''t go wrong here...

My old filter was the original for the Orion machine and after a year (OK almost two) it was about time to change it out for a new one.The shipping was fast (thankfully! I was getting thirsty!)
Installation directions were simple, the filter comes with a bottom piece that some machines use, but if your machine doesn''t (like my Orion) then you simply remove this piece and install the filter by pushing down on the machine''s spring loaded mechanism.
(Think inserting a huge AA battery into a device, first you push it into the spring side, etc)
The water quality is back to what it used to be-clean tasting, fresh, and vibrant. The alkaline water is great!

I own this BioStone Plus filter, I and my residents can tell that water taste best from all water that they taste in their life. It same taste like melted snow or expensive Fiji Natural Artesian water, but with out any smells of the plastic bottles. I tested this water with my ionizer, purified and alkaline water taste very amazing with out any kind of smells. My previous Ultra BioStone with alkaline level 8 to 11 ph was taste same kind of smells, but this is perfect filter with out any smells.I wish if BioStone Plus filter company make filtration system to use with out any ionizer, because a lot of people can''t afford expensive water ionizer. I am also like to sell my Orion ionizer and use just purified water, but no one make regular water system to use same Biostone Plus filter cartridge. If any one know how to use this water filter with out ionizer, please let me know, my email cergius at yahoo dot com. Thank You.

The last filter I bought lasted about two months and was clogged tight and wouldn''t let water through. This one after a week showed a one bar on the use area already. What gives...makes me think these are USED. For $90 average I think we have a problem and I am looking for a trusted source if such a thing actually exists. This is really ridiculous. These things should last 6-12 months for 2 folks, NOT a couple weeks. Something rotten is going on..........Waring CMS120 Professional 12 Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Save 75% Off
The alarm that sounds when the coffee is ready is really not that loud, contrary to what some others have stated. I find it welcoming since I start my coffeemaker and then go about my schedule getting ready for work. The three beeps tells me I can come get my hot cup now. (The volume level of the beeps is about the same as a microwave) It''s also nice to know it will shut off after 2 hours though I usually pour my coffee into a thermos almost immediately after brewing and shut it off myself.
I looked at DOZENS of coffeemakers in seven stores and shopped online at Amazon, reading tons of descriptions before buying this coffeemaker. I am SO glad I chose this one.I purchased this coffeemaker to replace our Mr. Coffee PRX23, ( vintage 1998 ) which had served us well over the years. When looking over the products currently available in stores, it seemed as if the art and science of coffeemaker design had gone backwards over the past ten years. Some of them looked to be three-handed affairs for loading the coffee, and others looked impossible to clean, like the water tanks on the current Cuisinarts. This Waring seems like it would be easy to clean, since you can lift the swing-out basket completely off the unit, and if your hands aren''t overly large you can reach down into the water reservoir.
The coffee tasted fine, although if I could add a feature, it would be an adjustable warmer for a little higher holding temp, since we usually add cream. Reviewer Ken mentions using the 1-4 cup feature to obtain a higher brewing temp, so I might try that with a full pot. The java connoisseurs all claim cone filters are superior to the basket type, but so far I haven''t noticed much difference in flavor. However, the cones are less prone to collapsing and letting grounds through, and they''re easier to lift out when it''s time to toss it. Just be prepared to pay about four times as much for cones over basket filters.
I don''t find the beep alarm at end of the brew cycle to be annoying. It only goes off once, and it''s helpful to know the coffee''s done if I''m across the house somewhere.
We like to keep a spare carafe on hand to rotate them for cleaning ( and in case we break one ), but so far I haven''t been able to locate where I could purchase one, even on Waring''s accessories web page. The Medalco 12-cup carafe looks like a candidate, although the inexpensive basic Mr. Coffee and GE carafes available at the local W**mart are about same height, so they might be worth trying first ( you can always return them ).
Had I not discovered this model, I probably would have gone with a Mr. Coffee CHX23.
Update: April 2012 After a year of daily use the warming plate has developed a pretty bad case of rust, which we never saw on any of our prior coffeemakers. Maybe the best materials weren''t chosen for the warming plate, ironic since so much stainless steel was used for the rest of the unit. Knocking off one star ( 4 to 3 ).
Update: September 2012 Well, my wife has expressed her disgust for the rust, and assigned me the task of researching a new coffee maker. So far Hamilton Beach 46201 looks interesting. This Waring CMS120 has disappeared from the Waring web site, like Waring is in denial they ever manufactured it. If you want an example of product support on the internet for small appliances done right, check out the Hamilton Beach web site.

PS: I wrote the review below over one year ago (12/23/10, today is 1/9/12). I still love the coffee maker overall (except for the 5 beeps). However, I just broke the glass carafe in the dishwasher about a week ago!! Not sure how it broke just sitting there, since it was broken before I removed it (maybe cheap or defective glass?), but it sure stinks. Anyway, the factory replacement carafe (CMS120CRF) made by Waring is "out of stock" everywhere on the internet. This is a problem...nnnnnneed.......coffffff....ffffeeeee!I had planned to call Waring to confirm, and hopefully see if they could recommend a "universal" replacement carafe. Maybe not perfect but a similar size at least close enough to function. This is a major drawback for Waring customers who wants to buy a product that doesn''t have service parts available? The 10-cup Waring CMS100 carafe is available on Amazon but I cannot tell how large it is there are no measurements published anywhere. Even when measurements are given, they don''t make any sense. Just give us the overall diameter and height, the handle makes no difference. The Waring CMS120CRF carafe is exactly 6" round x 6" tall.
So yesterday I went to a dept store for some other things, so I took a measuring tape and while there I looked at & measured their coffee makers. Turns out that Mr Coffee makes a replacement carafe (#132451) used on many of their coffee maker models, they were on the shelf so I bought one and it fits this machine ALMOST perfectly! The measurements given for it on Amazon (8.8 x 8.1 x 9.1) don''t make sense...the glass portion is 6" dia and the height is 6" to the highest part of the lid (button).
The Mr Coffee replacement fits slightly loose (the dia of the surface that contacts the hot plate is smaller, allowing more movement side-to-side), but I used it today and it is practically as good as the original. The button on the lid is a little more rounded, but not enough to allow the button on the basket to extend down and stop the dripping. I''d give it an Afor fit and function, which is pretty darn good for something improvised. Not to mention it only costs $12 vs. $30 for the Waring factory replacement price (if you can find one in stock).
Review from a year ago (12/23/10):
I just received this coffeemaker, the Free Super Saver shipping only took 3 days, so it is nice to get it so fast before X-mas. I''ve only made one pot of coffee so far, and it was quite good. I enabled the 1-4 cup brew feature (you can leave it off if desired), which I never had on my old unit, and it''s nice since it heats the coffee up much more (the manual says that smaller batches of this size are not as hot since the brewing time is so short). I really noticed a big difference vs. my old unit, it''s practically as hot as McDonald''s.
But I also wanted to pass on some info that does not seem easy to find:
1) This unit uses No. 4 Cone filters (better than basket type). It came with a "permanent filter basket", but it''s seems to be made from plastic and not metal like you''d expect. I just use the brown paper filters, which are easy to find. The premanent filter will allow some fine sediment through into the coffee.
2) It uses 5 annoying loud beeps to signal that the brewing cycle is complete.
I was looking for a unit that did not use these silly beeps, since I use it in the early morning and the rest of house is still sleeping. They are quite loud and cannot be disabled as far as I can tell. But so far they haven''t awakened anyone!
It seems that most, almost all electronic coffemakers (i.e. non-manual) have this feature, so finding one without it is a challenge. Who wants this feature? I don''t see the appeal of it. Seems like more of a nuisance to me. I have read reviews for other coffee makers and many others also dislike this feature. But this is my only complaint so far, so I still give it 5 stars.

Finally found a coffee maker that makes hot coffee. Last year''s coffee maker was done (was brewing cooler coffee by the day and the warming plate was rusted) and so I went to a local store to try to find a different brand to try. It was awful, made two pots of lukewarm coffee and took it back. So I turned to Amazon, checked to see which coffee maker had the highest ratings and what other shoppers had to say about each one. I didn''t want or need one that kept water hot at all times. I decided against a thermal carafe. This pot seemed the obvious choice. It came quickly, arrived in perfect shape and it makes great coffee. It actually heats the water to a hot temperature before the water hits the grounds, doesn''t rely on the warming plate to provide the heat. I''ve owned coffee makers where the second cup was quite a bit hotter than the first. As for concerns that other people have mentioned, the bright blue light is really a silly feature. Don''t know why it is so bright, but it is only on when the pot is on (this includes when you set it to come on at a future time). I find the beep much more annoying. The blue light might be silly but the sound it makes when it is done brewing is ridiculous. The only caveat I would offer against buying this machine is if someone is sleeping in a bedroom next to the kitchen the beeping WILL wake them up.
As I''ve only owned and used the Waring for two weeks, I can''t speak to its durability but so far it is the best coffee maker I have owned. A small pot of coffee (one large mug) turns out as good as a full pot.

We''ve only had this coffee maker one week and I can''t say enough about it. It makes an excellent, hot, flavorful pot of coffee. The products seems to be of very good quality. The basket is easily removed for cleaning (we use #4 filters instead of the supplied mesh filter). The pot pours well with no mess or drip. Measuring your coffee/water ratio is no longer a challenge; they recommend 1 scoop (supplied) of coffee per cup rather than the standard 2 tablespoons per 6oz of water which has never made sense to me. The beeping others have complained about does not bother us. We actually like being able to walk away and attend to other tasks knowing it will let us know when our coffee is ready! We''ve owned Keurigs, Chemex and other mainstream coffee brand pots and this is by far the best! If you''re looking for a value-priced, well-made, easy to use coffee maker that makes an excellent and hot pot of coffee, look no further. LG LP1200dxr 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner
It is a large and heavy unit, and a bit noisy if you plan to sleep in the room with it. But we did get used to the noise, and it was certainly a fair trade off for the comfort it provided. I would not hesitate for a second to purchase this unit again, and when summer rolls around I am so thankful that we have it. Very well built and efficient cooler.I have had this unit for 3 years and it has performed very well.Even though the portable ones aren''t supposed to be as good, we got this as it was well rated at the time. It has vents that go up and down to move the cold air around. It is powerful and gets the room very cold. I am sure it would cool an area 3 times the room I have it in easily. You can program it to a specific temperature. You can set it on dehumidify. It shuts down if the water chamber needs to be emptied and that can happen several times on very humid days but I just put a shallow pan under it and pull the plug to drain it. It has a good solid vent hose and a washable filter that is easy to get to. I have a slider window so I can''t mount a permanent AC unit and also it is not my house so this is a great solution. It is a way to change the area you want to cool also. It is heavy and large but is on wheels and it''s not whisper quiet but it is basic white noise and easy to sleep through. When not in use in the winter empty and clean and cover it to keep out dust. Store in a warm dry place or mold can grow in air conditioners when they aren''t in use. If needs cleaning consult a pro to avoid damaging condenser.

The only thing is that the water container gets full every 20 minutes approximately, when the humidity is around 78% so I would like this container a little bit bigger.Read Best Reviews of LG LP1200dxr 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Here
I got this portable air conditioner to cool the second floor of my one and a half story bungalow. I only have to run it for 2 or 3 hours in the evening to get the second floor bedroom nice and cool for sleeping. It is a little loud, but it is basically white noise and very easy for me to tune out. It is necessary to drain the water once every few days into a shallow pan (it''s the only thing that will fit under the lower drain), but you don''t need a way to let it drain while it is running. When the water tank gets full, it shuts itself off, so no mess to clean up. It is also very easy to fit the exhaust vent into the window when I want air conditioning and take it out when I want fresh air. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. I first ordered this bottle in green and black about six months ago. The green one had the old version of the filter, while the black had the new one. Contrary to what some other reviewers said, I love the new filter it is so much easier to fill, drink out of without having to excessively squeeze the water out, and after months of testing this, I can say that the water actually tastes better. This pink one is no different, it is a great filtered water bottle and I am thrilled at how much less recycling I''ve had to bring out now that I rarely drink from plastic water bottles (and I save money from not having to buy cases of water every month)!Want Rubbermaid 1783829 20-Ounce Filtration Personal Bottle Discount?

Sometimes there is a bit of sludge in the bottom of the coffee pot, though...usually not a big issue since we rarely finish a full pot (just a heads up for you coffee lovers).
Cleaning is easy, and I also run it thru the vinegar wash when the coffee pot is being cleaned, as the metal can tend to get water/lime deposits like the coffee pot. [our water is very hard].
Have purchased this item two times (had to replace the size when we bought a new pot). Would purchase again. We bought this to try to be more environment friendly, since we brew coffee several times a day, and it bothered us to see the amount of paper we wasted on the coffee machine filters. Well, it works, but the coffee doesn''t taste as rich as it does when compared to paper filters (my explanation is that the plastic one has larger holes, therefore the hot water passes quicker), and it leaves a little bit of very fine powder in the bottom of the jar.
