Aqua-Pure AP117NP Universal Whole House Filter Replacement Cartridge Save 44% Off

Aqua-Pure AP117NP Universal Whole House Filter Replacement Cartridge for Chlorine, Dirt and Rust Reduction, 2-Pack
  • 5 micron nominal filtration
  • Dimensions: 9 3/4" L x 2 5/8" W
  • Long life graded density pre-filter
  • Specially formulated high-absorption activated carbon
  • Cold water only

When I need to replace the filter for my cuno whole house filter system. I use the Aqua Pure filter. It eliminates all the chlorine from my water and I have the best water around. Without this filter all you smell is the chlorine. I hated taking showers or cooking when my filters ran out. They tend to be more expensive then anything I could find at the local home improvement stores but, the quality of the filter is far more superior than anything these stores carried.

It doesn''t appear to filter as well as advertised. My water has a brown hue out of the tap, I expected the product to remove that residue and it doesn''t. I would not purchase this particular filter again. I would purchase the brand but a different model. I purchased the NP model but the filter i received did not have the NP at the end, this may be my problem as I have used Aqua-pure filters in the past without a problem.

Iv''e used these filters for years and they work efficiently. 5 micron pre filter built in. You must flush out new filters until water turns clear.

I think it''s working. It seems to filter the rust and chlorine, but I don''t know. I have another filter I put in before it to filter the rust, and it''s always dark rusty looking. This filter also looks a bit rusty. I have extremely rusty water coming in from the ancient pipes under the street in front of my house. I don''t have any way of determining whether or not it''s working, though. I gave it four stars because it''s kinda pricey at more than twenty dollars for each filter, and they only last six months.

Whynter FX-7SW Free-Standing Hot & Cold Water Dispenser

Whynter FX-7SW Free-Standing Hot & Cold Water Dispenser, White
  • Easy-to-Use push button controls with child proof safety switch for hot water dispensing
  • Bottle capacity: 3 or 5 Gallon bottle (bottle not included)
  • Energy saving hot & cold switch, high efficiency, CFC free compressor
  • Chilled water capacity approximately 2 liters per hour, chilled water temperature 41F - 50F
  • Hot water capacity approximately 5 liters per hour, hot water temperature 176F - 203F

It dispenses cold water/hot water as advertised. My only complaint is the buttons to push for dispensing; you have to really press to get water out of the unit. However, since I have a 9 month old, this is probably for the best.

Pentek DBC-10EX2 10 inch x 4.5 inch Big Blue Whole House Filter

Pentek DBC-10EX2 10 inch x 4.5 inch Big Blue Whole House FilterThis is a review of the Pentek DBC-10EX2 granular activated carbon cartridge with KDF 55 Media. I''ve been using this cartridge for several weeks. This is a big cartridge intended for whole house applications, measuring 10" x 4.5". I chose this cartridge and the Pentek Big Blue 10" housing for my kitchen sink in order to not diminish the flow rate at the kitchen tap. Because this particular unit is so large, I installed it on the supply line in the basement, just below the kitchen floor as opposed to under the sink. I already have a whole house sediment filter as a pre-filter for this unit. My well water was already pretty good; however, a recent professional test showed my arsenic level is .012 parts per million (12 parts per billion), which slightly exceeds the EPA limit of .010 ppm (10 ppb). I was hoping this cartridge would completely remove the arsenic, but that has not been the case. It has, however, reduced the arsenic from 12 ppb to about 7 ppb. I did a follow-up test of both my filtered and unfiltered water using a home test kit from Industrial Test Systems. I checked the accuracy of the test kit on my unfiltered water since I knew from professional testing that it contained 12 ppb. The kit, model Quick II #481303-5, seemed dead on in detecting the 12 ppb in the unfiltered sample. BTW, I do not recommend the other arsenic kit from ITS Model #481396-2 as it was much harder to use/read. The filtered sample came in at approx. 7 ppb. I can report that my water flow rate at the kitchen tap, through this filter, is as strong as ever. Because this is a combination carbon and resin (KDF) filter, there will be some carbon fines that flow out upon initial start-up, but this dissipates after a few minutes of flow. I''m giving this cartridge 4 stars since I was mildly disappointed that it didn''t do better in removing my arsenic; however, it did reduce my arsenic from 12ppb to 7ppb and for that I''m glad. I will probably try a different, more aggressive cartridge next; perhaps, one that uses iron oxide media or some other arsenic specific resin. I''ll update this review once I''ve done this.

Dewitt Deluxe Pond Net Knitted 30% Mesh Netting Save 12% Off

Dewitt PN302030 Deluxe Pond Protection Net, 20 X 30 FootI tried this net last fall for the first time over my watergarden. It worked better than any net I''ve used in the past 15 years. The weave of the net is somewhat stretchy but it prevents leaves from getting caught in the mesh. The leaves blow off and don''t accumulate in pockets. This is a great product for people who have koi or goldfish ponds.

The pond netting is not very strong. If you lay it on your pond, the sheer weight of the leaves and the ice will tear it down in fall and winter, It may be OK in the summer time preventing birds, deers going to the pond.

It is a very light weight material good for protection of plants from the wild life.

The merchant delivered the product as promised and refunded fully on receipt of my pond netting returned unused.

Putting the netting on my pond when the fall comes around is always a MAJOR hassle. That is until I purchased this product. Other netting''s I have tried were so flimsy that I could not open it by myself , never mind put it over the pond. The Dewitt Deluxe Pond Protection Net, unfolded very easily and I was able to spread it out over my pond in a matter of minutes by myself.

Don''t waste your money on a less expensive netting, this is the one you want!

We have a 19'' mongolian yurt and we live in a very windy place. The yurt holds up perfectly to the wind, but we have ours covered on the outside with recycled vinyl billboard panels. So there are edges where the tarps overlap and that allows the wind to get under and they can start flapping, etc. We tried a winter pool cover, which was a great idea because it was round, but it deteriorated after a couple of months; the fierce UV rays ate it up. So I ran across this pond cover and decided to try it. It is a great price and we''ve been using it for about 8 months now. It''s holding up great and has solved our flapping tarp problem. Highly recommended!

Hoover SteamVac Pet Complete Carpet Cleaner

Hoover SteamVac Pet Complete Carpet Cleaner with Clean Surge, F5918900So I discovered that this is pretty much the exact same model as the more famous Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac with Clean Surge

It has the clean surge as well, which does great with pet urine.

I think the only difference is that it''s packaged with a small bottle of the cleaner for Pets and some wipes. As far as I can tell.

I''ve been using it almost every weekend. I get down and smell the spots afterwards and only a few times did I still smell it. I used the clean surge and it did the trick.

We also live where there''s new home construction and I suspect we have a lot of ''construction dust'' in our house. Apparently we do and for new carpet it''s amazing how brown the water is! It picks up sand that I didn''t know was there.

Still fairly new so we''ll see how it ages, but so far so good. I bought a few extra gadgets for it online at and they came fast. Even though I vacuum first, I still get dog hair caught up in the intake bit and the little removal tool only gets so much. I hope that I can keep it hair-free enough to make sure it doesn''t become a problem. The fact that you can remove the brushes is great though, so you can wash them well.

How do I love my Hoover SteamVac? Let me count the ways... This carpet cleaning machine is FANTASTIC. As soon as I got the SteamVac, I cleaned some incredibly filthy areas on beige carpet. One was a major stain in a high traffic area that someone trampled into the carpet, while bringing groceries in with wet and dirty shoes. The other was an old stain my daughter made from a spilled chocolate-soymilk smoothie that she didn''t clean up properly because she was in a rush to go somewhere. The SteamVac cleaned both of these problem spots to such a respectable level that I won''t be embarrased in front of company anymore. This is an older carpet, so it doesn''t look brand new. But, that doesn''t stop me from jumping for joy.

Incidentally, I don''t use the expensive, petroleum-chemical-based carpet cleaning solutions. Instead, I use water and a little bit of the nontoxic ''Lemon'' SimpleGreen in the solution tank. I also worked on problem spots with a toothbrush and a squirt bottle with a VERY diluted solution of dishsoap and water. Then, to eliminate soap residue, a final rinse over the whole shebang with a solution of plain vinegar and water. TIP: If you want to experiment with carpet-cleaning solutions yourself, just be sure you pick LOW-SUDSING products.

And, nobody beats AMAZON on price. Can I just say FREE SHIPPING? Incredible!

I was very excited at the prospect of having a carpet cleaner that would steam clean and at least use hot water to clean the tough spots on my carpet. Unfortunately, the "SteamVac" doesn''t do that. It doesn''t heat the water that is being used on the carpet, nor does it produce any steam. It does blow hot air onto the carpet, though I''m not sure how that assists in cleaning the carpet.

I have a small front room, empty of furniture for the moment, but with several stains and high traffic dirt in the main walkway. I used this room as my test area to see how well this carpet cleaner worked. Below are my findings:

Pros:

* It is easy to use and set up based on the enclosed instructions.

* The machine is very sturdy and will withstand the test of time.

* The spin brushes seem to loosen the dirt and the suction does a good job extracting the water from the carpet. I could see a lot of dirt coming through the machine with each suction and when I dumped the used water it was filled with gunk.

Cons:

* The machine leaks water when it sits for a bit. I had been cleaning my carpet and stopped to answer the phone. When I returned from my phone call the machine was sitting in a puddle. What a mess!

* It isn''t heated cleaning! When I returned from the phone call and started cleaning again I realized that it was just cold water going through the unit. It didn''t heat or steam the water at all! If you want hot water with your cleaning, you have to put hot water in the unit initially and clean before the water cools down. This is tough because it takes a while to use.

* My spots remained on the carpet. If this would have been a true hot water/steam cleaner I think those tough spots would have been removed. Others have posted that they have gotten spots out of their carpets with this machine, but they are also doing some intensive spot treatments.

* The attachment is difficult to use on the stairs. This was a real struggle and didn''t seem worth the effort.

All in all I was a bit disappointed in this machine. I was hoping it would have performed better on some of those trouble areas.

This is a great carpet cleaner. The scrubbing brushes is what sets it apart

and above all the other types. Easy to use. A bit heavy to push back and

forth but well worth the effort. This machine worked on spots that a

professional carpet cleaner couldn''t budge. Fantastic for all stains and

great for those pets stains that happen when you least expect it. I use my

small SpotBot Pet for those little stains but this is the machine to use for

bigger stains and just to freshen and brighten up the carpet. Apparently

there is also an attachment that you can buy that will enable the machine

to clean floors too. I intend to get that but for now, it is well worth the

cost and effort.

First off this is exactly the same unit as the Hoover SteamVac Carpet Cleaner with Clean Surge except for some minor color changes in the plastic pieces and the inclusion of a package of pet wipes and a 16-oz bottle of Hoover Premium Pet Formula Detergent. That might help you choose between the two options, based on current prices. Personally, I like the cosmetic changes (but my SteamVac is six years old, so Hoover might have changed the look of that one, too but the picture of it on Amazon still looks like mine). Also, the hand tool hose that came with this unit is black instead of the light gray shown in the Amazon photo, and I think the black looks better.

I''ve owned and used a Hoover SteamVac for six years and have been happy with it, so I was happy to have a chance to review this product (please note that my original SteamVac still works great after six years). Prior to that, I used a Bissell for about five years. They both have their pros and cons, but I like the Hoover best overall. The Hoover seems like a sturdier unit to me (I replaced the Bissell after it stopped pumping liquid, and the plastic seemed lighter and less sturdy on it). The Bissell was sleeker looking, as this Hoover is kind of commercial looking.

I have stain resistant carpets, so my experience could be different from others. I have cleaned up stains just with a cloth before, using Hoover cleaning solution and water. That said, this cleaner has worked excellently on pet stains that occur from time to time. Perhaps I benefit most from the ease of use. It''s fairly lightweight, easy to fill with water, and easy to operate.

I''ve tried the included SpinScrub hand tool, and I didn''t think that it worked any better than the regular hand tool. They both work fine, but I thought the spinning brushes might clean a bit better or faster. The hand tools work great for furniture, and the hose is plenty long for easy reach.

Things that I like:

Separate tanks for the clean and dirty water. Also, no internal water bladder like on my older Bissell. The tanks are all hard plastic and easy to fill/empty.

Very easy to use. Lightweight and easy to push around.

Fairly quiet. My dog Niki really dislikes my vacuum cleaner, but she doesn''t mind this machine too much.

Dries the carpet pretty well when you go over the carpet without dispensing liquid.

Because the hand tool isn''t typically connected to the water line, you can remove the hose if you find it easier to use/store that way.

The hose for the hand tool is plenty long and makes cleaning furniture easy.

Things that I''d change (and why I "like" it instead of "love" it):

Switching to/from the hand tool. I''d like to have the hand tool be available by toggling a selector switch, like on a Bissell that I owned previously. Having to partially disassemble the unit (including removing the upper water tank) to switch between floor and hand tools is an inconvenience. While I like that I can take off the hose, I''d prefer to have to leave it on if it meant that I could quickly switch over to the hand tool.

Being able to remove the dirty water tank without lowering the handle all the way to the floor. The clean water tank pops right out of the handle, and I wish that the dirty water tank was similarly easy to remove.

I wish that it heated the water. Perhaps it doesn''t make a huge difference, but it''s something that I''d like to have.

Overall, I''m happy with both designs and recommend this unit and the original SteamVac. Probably 4.5 stars for me, but I couldn''t quite give it five. Paying extra for the pet formula isn''t worth it to me, but I do like the slightly different cosmetics of this unit. They are good carpet cleaners, which I think is evidenced by the large number of positive reviews for both products.

Water feels invigorating, too!

I have been using the Rainshow''r product for almost 10 years now, changing out the filter once a year--and I can tell when it is time to replace the cartridge, my curly hair starts to become more unruly! I even installed one at a boyfriend''s house because prolonged visits resulted in diminished manageability of my hair. Same for long vacations.

This really speaks to how damaging chlorine is to hair. It''s also nice to not be breathing in chlorine fumes during a shower!!

Highly recommend for people with chemical sensitives or naturally curly hair! You just won''t believe the difference--even my hairdresser could tell!!

Why did a buy this? First of all, just turn on the faucets in my home and your smell chlorine, the odor is extremely strong in our city water.

I have been looking for a filter for years for my shower, but honestly, I never knew what one to buy. This one was recommended by a Board-Certified Naturopath and Clinical Nutritionist. I read on their company website that Rainshow''r is one of the pioneers of shower filters, they have been making them for 20 years years... So I figured they must be pretty good. One thing you have to love about these filters is they are made in the United States, by Americans... Sadly, it is rare to see anything made in the USA today. It is nice to know by buying one of these your supporting American jobs and the national economy.

Here is my story:

I have been a swimmer for over 26 years. My skin has lived in chlorinated water for a very long time, it normally is always dry and my skin is often red. However, I really never realized how bad it was for a person to take a hot shower in a small room with the door closed, until taking a lot of science classes in school. Your standing in the hot shower and filling the room with hot poisonous gas, which in no way is good for humans. Then, while your taking a shower, your pores are open and exposed to all this nasty stuff, which is now getting into your skin. Of course, don''t forget either, your skin is your largest organ. The integumentary system (skin, hair, nails, sweat glands) is one of the first lines of defense and anything that is in the water is going to effect all of these areas.

Now, lets get this straight. Chlorine is used in water to kill all the nasty stuff in swimming pools and city water. This might be a good thing, but it is not something that should stay in the water. The reality is, chlorine makes your skin red, itchy, your hair dry and it is not good for adults or their kids... I have a regular water filter (if only it removed fluoride, but that is another subject[if you know of one, let me know]) but sometimes I forget that I needed to use a shower filter.

I purchased one of these first for my wife, just to see if she would like it. She noticed it made her skin much softer as well as her hair.

So for the past two weeks I have been taking a shower only at home. Later this week I decided to start using the gym shower instead of waiting to get home. I noticed as soon as I got out of the shower at the gym and looked into the mirror, my cheeks, would get really red and dry. While at home this stopped happening. I know now for a fact this is due to the shower removing the chlorine and have also noticed that the water seems much softer; like silk or something.

We now have 3 of these filters, one in each shower. I would strongly recommend this filter to anyone who is using city water and wants to improve their skin. Now, if your taking a bath, the company also makes a bathtub filter. I just don''t like the idea of having to wait 10-15 minutes with my hand in the water swirling a ball around to filter the water. Just turn on the shower and let the shower filter do its job and fill your tub that way.

I would recommend this to everyone. This is one of the best purchases I have ever made off Amazon. One thing to know, if you have children, this is a must have! Children have a weaker immune system than adults and it is important to be careful of the toxicities in water.

I''ve had my Rainshow''r shower filter for about 6 months now. The softness in my skin and hair has improved remarkably. Also, I have no more stinging and itching from dry skin caused by chlorinated water. If you use this shower filter combined with shampoos and soaps which contain no sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates the difference will be unbelievable. Your skin will thank you. Get this shower filter.

This is a mighty little filter that is super easy to install and cheaper than most comparable products too. Softer hair, smoother skin and fewer impurities in my world are enough for me. I spent a lot of time researching shower filters before deciding to try this one rather than one of the higher-priced ones, and I don''t regret it one bit! Although the Aquasana filters have recommendations all over Amazon-land, their main advantage over the Rainshow''r is the addition of a carbon filter. According to my research, carbon works fairly well for filtering drinking water, but doesn''t help at high temperatures or high volume applications like shower filters.

My wife and I really like this Rainshow''r. There is a very noticeable difference in how our skin and hair feel with this filter. Our skin is softer, not as itchy, and our hair feels more moisturized when using this filter.

For us, one filter lasted about 3 months. That''s with municipal water that has a rather (un)healthy dose of chlorine.

The only con I can think of is that there''s no indication of when it''s time to replace the filter. I think that''s how all shower filters are, though.

I''m here to order replacement filters, so it''s a keeper!

PUR Ultimate Faucet Mount

PUR Ultimate Faucet MountI''d give this 3 1/2 stars if I could.

When you first attach the PUR filter, it works beautifully. Water comes out fast, and comes out clean. But fairly soon, and well before the filter is supposedly used up, the filter cuts down on the flow as it gets more and more clogged. After a while it can take 30 seconds to fill up a glass of water. Ours also has a leakage problem that is exacerbated the more clogged the filter is (the leak comes from the plastic covering that tells you how used up the filter is)...Don''t know if ours is defective or if this is typical.

We have since bought a PUR pitcher filtration system, and that seems to be more convenient to use because you don''t have to sit there like a ... waiting for your glass to fill up.

PUR is superior to BRITA filters, by the way, because they also filter giardia and cryptosporidium, two bacteria that can cause intestinal illnesses. This is especially important if you live in areas with iffy water systems (i.e. St. Petersburg, Russia, which is full of giardia/Mexico) or if you have a weak immune system.

The PUR filters work out to about 25 cents per gallon of filtered water. It costs more to filter dirtier water and less to filter cleaner water.

When you finally throw out the used filter, try cracking it open and having a look at all the nasty gunk that you didn''t put into your body. It''s definitely worth the price, don''t you think?

... I bought my Pur Faucet Mount filter two years ago, when my new place had funny-tasting water. The filter really cleared it up and made it tasteless -... I really like how easy it is to use either filtered or unfiltered water (depending on what I''m doing) with just a quick flip. Also, the spray feature is great. Overall, this filter has saved me from drinking nasty water (and lots of money from buying bottled water).

My only complaint: the faucet mount itself is a bit bulky,

Overall, it''s a great filter and easier than remembering to refill one of those pitchers.

Buy PUR Ultimate Faucet Mount Now

(COMMUNITY FORUM 04)We have been known to make our every-two-week pilgrimage to Costco to get our bottled water. Honestly, it is a lot of work to carry water around. And like PUR notes in their ad: "There''s more than one way to get 100 Gallons of Drinking Water into your home."

So, something had to be done. This was a serious situation. I need water for tea, when working out and basically for cooking. I refuse to drink water that has not been filtered, just out of principle.

The other problem with bottled water is the bottles you have to recycle. I will probably still buy some bottled water, but the recycling load will be much less.

What amazed me was the ease of installation. Before, I had tried to install an under the cabinet "fancy smancy" water filtration unit which was much higher in price. What then occurred was a leak in the system and unfortunately I did not realize that on certain kitchen faucets, you can''t do the installation yourself when installing a water purifier. I then had to call a plumber and had to install an entirely new kitchen faucet.

Save yourself this hassle and expense.

To Install this product:

1. You remove the faucet aerator.

2. Check for an adaptor (they include a few for internal threaded faucets)

3. Attach the filter to your faucet.

4. Install the filter cartridge.

Yes, it is that easy. Sure beats water torture as you are under the sink trying to peer into the pitch darkness of under cabinet plumbing life and water is dripping on you in a most annoying fashion. I have a completely new respect for plumbers now.

The PUR "Activated Carbon Microfilter" filter up to 100 gallons of water which means you replace the filter every 2-3 months.

There is an "automatic safety monitor": that has a red line which appears in a little window at the front of the filter when the end of the filter life occurs. At such time, you just replace the filter. Keep one on hand for such a day.

What I found as a bonus was the "Swivel sprayer" that attaches to the entire system. The water that makes its way through the filter also comes out in a spray fashion. The "ByPass" feature means that you can still use your regular water for washing dishes and then switch back to filtered water by rotating the water filter at the faucet. While I thought this filter would get in the way, it really doesn''t.

This product claims to reduce lead, mercury, asbestos, MTBE, and TTHMs. This product should not be used with microbiologically unsafe water.

Five Stars for ease of installation and peace of mind! I can even order the filters here with book orders.

Such convenience.

I dont want to be mean about this but read the manual. It will tell you to run the new filter for 5 minutes to set the the filter resin. If you do this the filter will provide good flow for the full length of the filter (I get 3 months). If you dont it will slow to a trickle in days.

I have owned these for years. I say these becasue I have had two break and the third is now broken and needs replaced. One of them started leaking out the sight window, another cracked down the side and the most recent failure is that the valve for switching between filtered or not filtered is leaking.

The work great and each time I have had a problem customer service sent me out a new one immediately, I got it in days.

Want PUR Ultimate Faucet Mount Discount?

We use about a gallon of water a day, and I''m tired of lugging bottled water from the store. We settled on the Pur filter based on its capabilities (they claim to filter out more than the competition).

We get a decent flow for two or so days after replacing the filter (about two gallons worth), but it quickly degrades after that. After about a week, it takes about a minute to fill up a glass. After another week, it''s more like three minutes (which seems like an eternity when you''re thirsty at 3am!). After that, it''s pointless -it drips, drips, drips into the glass.

It''s become even worse recently, even after installing a brand-new unit (the whole thing not just the filter). Now, we get about a week out of a filter. I give it two stars because though I''m frustrated by it''s slow flow, the water we do get out of it is good.

Maybe this is a NYC thing? Perhaps other parts of the country have cleaner water? I don''t know. All I do know is that if you live around here, think about another alternative.

Klean Kanteen Flat Cap/Polypro

Klean Kanteen Flat Cap/PolyproThis cap is worthless. It made my water taste bad (whereas the original ''sport cap'' never did), so I removed the silicone o-ring and put the cap in the dishwasher, thinking it had some coffee residue on it or something.

After I took it out of the dishwasher, I could hear water sloshing around _inside_ of it! It appears to be completely impermeable there are no apparent holes in it. Nevertheless it has water inside of it, with no evident way to get the water out.

The ''sport cap'' that came with my Kleen Kanteen is hollowed out, like an upside-down cup there is no bottom. This low-profile cap is hollow but has a bottom it has a continuous outer surface like a fishing bobber or something.

Clearly they need to work on their quality-control. Avoid this cap like the worthless POS that it is.

Had to buy this lid to replace the one I broke. My Kanteen fell out of the refrigerator and of course landed just right to bust off the loop cap I had. This one is great and saves a little space with it''s flat top. I hand wash all my Klean Kanteen items, as instructed, so that the water does not seep into the lids. Never let them soak or you will have water trapped in the cap. We''ve had our Kanteens for 5 years now and they have saved us from buying and wasting all those plastic water bottles. Love them!

I like this a little better than the stainless/plastic one that originally came with my Klean Kanteen. Unfortunately, like the stainless/plastic cap, this cap gets some water trapped inside it when washed in a dishwasher--maybe not quite as much with this one, but I can hear it sloshing around in there when I shake the cap.

This cap is all plastic (polypropylene, which has a fairly safe reputation at this time.)

Unlike the plastic loop-top cap, this one has a a texture around the edge where you grip it to tighten or loosen it.

This is a good all purpose cap to go along with the Klean Kanteen bottles. We have one of the smaller sippy top bottles that we use for our 9 month old son when we take him out hiking but I use the flat cap to keep his bottle sealed while we''re travelling to the trail. Once we get there, I take this top off and put the sippy top on for him to use while we''re out for the day. The bottle is just tossed in with the rest of our hiking gear while we''re travelling and I''ve never had any problems with leaks at all.

Jiffy Steamer ESTEAM Travel Steamers Save 16% Off

ESTEAMĀ® Personal Hand Held SteamerMy father bought the Rowenta locally and I tried it out. I''d been wanting an easy-to-use steamer so I checked Amazon. The Jiffy has gotten excellent reviews whereas the Rowenta has gotten ok reviews (most negatives are about durability.) I ordered the Jiffy and borrowed my Dad''s so I could compare them.

First let me say that I want a quick and easy steamer mostly to get wrinkles out of Tshirts, shorts, jeans,button-downs etc that I didn''t take out of the dryer quick enough. I usually will not be steaming full suits, etc.

The Rowenta is incredibly quick to heat up and start steaming. It literally takes about 30 seconds.

The Jiffy takes about 3 minutes. That''s still fast but if you''re in a really big rush...

When the Rowenta is heated up it basically just sits idle. I don''t think it''s losing any water while idle because there''s no steam coming out. When the Jiffy is heated up the water is literally boiling inside. You can see and hear it boiling. It constantly releases steam. The bad part about this is if you need to pause for a bit (answer phone, do something else...) then the water continues to get used up. In my case it was pumping out hot steam heating up the bathroom and fogging up the mirror. This brings me to one of the bigger complaints about the Rowenta-the water capacity. The Rowenta definitely holds less water than the Jiffy but I found the Rowenta to be more real-world convenient. 1) because it only releases steam only when you need it (you push the button) and 2) because the Rowenta heats up so fast the capacity isn''t much of an issue.

Also, the Jiffy gets hot on the exterior-real hot. So it''s not that easy to refill quickly because you have to be careful not to burn yourself. After you''re finished using the Jiffy it''s too hot to put away. You have to leave it and let it cool down. When you''re steaming with the Jiffy it''s also easy to burn your fingers with the steam. If you don''t keep it perfectly upright it leaks easily and the drops really burn you. If you get yourself with the steam you say, "OW!". If you get yourself with the drops you say, "OW S%&*!!, son of a...!!"

The Rowenta doesn''t get very hot on the exterior. If you steam your fingers it doesn''t really hurt. I also made a dumb mistake when first trying the Rowenta. I left it plugged in lying on top of some clothing for a couple hours. Of course I don''t recommend this but nonetheless it wasn''t that hot and the clothes it was lying on were in no apparent danger of burning. I believe you''re supposed to try and keep them both upright while steaming but sometimes you want to turn it to reach a spot. I don''t recall the Rowenta leaking when I did that. If it did, it wasn''t hot enough for me to remember.

I''m sure many people consider the hotter steam of the Jiffy to be a plus over Rowenta but I didn''t find this to be the case. Yes the Jiffy is hotter but it just ''boils'' steam out of the openings. The Rowenta is less hot but it ''blasts'' the steam out when you push the button. The blasting effect seemed to almost, but not entirely, make up for the difference in heat. Also, the extra heat of the Jiffy made the clothing soggy so if you touched a part that you''d already steamed it would create new wrinkles. Touching the parts that you already steamed with the Rowenta didn''t really seem to create new wrinkles. I used both steamers on the same 3 pieces of clothing for about the same amount of time. I used the Rowenta on one side and the Jiffy on the other. I didn''t tell my wife which was which and asked her which looked better. They were all basically too close to compare.

I have a toddler so there was definitely a safety issue for me. If she were to pull the cord and pull the Jiffy down on herself while on( or even 5-10 mins after you''ve unplugged it)she could be seriously injured and scarred. If she were to pull the Rowenta down it probably wouldn''t be a big issue.

So I ordered a Rowenta for myself and am sending the Jiffy back. I''m not saying the Jiffy is a bad piece of equipment, it just isn''t quick and easy like the Rowenta. I feel as if I needed something that performs like the Jiffy I''d rather just get an upright steamer.

In summary, the Rowenta is safer, quicker, and easier-for my purposes anyway. It''s also cheaper. Only time will tell about the durability.

(COMMUNITY FORUM 04) This light weight travel steamer has saved me many dollars. For the price of what I would have paid a hotel valet service to press my suitcase wrinkled clothes I could probably have room service breakfasts! The Esteam made quick work of the folds in a gabardine skirt, and spiffed up the collars of many a blouse and jacket.

While Esteam has become a must-have for our travel, it has also become a standby at home. We do have the J-2000 which is great, but because of the easy maneuverability of the hand held steamer I find that we use it more often.

Try as I might, a steam iron was leaving shiny spots on a taffeta skirt. The steamer smooths wrinkles with no trace whatsoever. There is a silk table skirt that we love but it was impossible to get it home from the cleaners unwrinkled Esteam to the rescue. The uses we''ve found for it are countless. It''s simply one of those household items we now wonder how we ever did without.

We like the wide mouth on the water tank, which makes it easy to fill and the fact that we can use plain or distilled water. The handle is ergonomically friendly, and the nine foot cord allows us to move about as much as needed.

Thanks to Jiffy Esteamer wrinkles are no longer a pressing issue for us!

This steamer works great on light fabrics such as silk. However when I tried steaming my cotton dress shirts, it took forever just to get a couple of wrinkles out. For its small size and price I''m fairly satisfied with this steamer, but don''t expect it to replace your iron.

Firstly, smallappliances.com provides a much better price on this product than amazon.

Secondly, I write this review based on a 2-week holiday experience in which I utilized the steamer on a diurnal basis.

Pros: sub5 minute warm up period; uses hard or soft water; compact and durable; does an adequate job of steaming dress slacks, trenchcoats, jeans, ties and dress slacks; 800 watts of output power (most powerful portable steamer out there); never clogs; lengthy power cord; straight-forward and easy instructions; steams vertically as well as horizontally (really!); and, balanced.

Cons: goes through dihydra-monoxide quickly (which is a testimony of its steaming power and the limited water chamber); no on/off switch; only 4 steaming vents (bores); steaming head collects dirt and lint promptly & easily; have to purchase plug converters separately (utterly stupid since this unit is designed for the traveler--it''s always about $, $, $, $); and, aesthetically unattractive.

Is it quicker and more efficient than a clothes iron? Are the results better than a clothes iron? In my humble opinion... sometimes yes, sometimes no. For trenchcoats, ties, suit coats, jackets and jeans--this steamer definitely has the edge. For dress slacks and dress shirts--the jury''s still out. As it stands right now, I would have to say, "No."

All in all, it is a wise investment with ample potential.

Hope this helps.

Just used the steamer for the first time and was impressed with how well it got up to temperature. It produces a good amount of steam for dewrinkling clothes, but keep in mind this is for short term use i.e. you will have to refill several times if you need to do several articles of clothing.

The reason I purchased this was to block sweater pannels after knitting. I will need to send this gem back because the instruction clearly specify that you must keep the steamer verticle i.e. you can''t use this with your clothing article on a table. Your item must be hanging.

Whirlpool WHKF-R-PLUS UltraEase Plus Inline Filter Replacement Cartridge

  • Also known as WHKFR Plus, WHCF-R-Plus, 56932 and W10185590
  • Reduces sediment, soil, rust, sand and chlorine taste and odor
  • Replace filter every 6 months

I remodeled my kitchen a few years ago and put in an instant hot water faucet (which i love) by the sink. It was recommended to me to install a water filter between the water source and the heater tank, so I got a Whirlpool kit. This is the replacement filter. All I have to do is shut of the switch at the top, unscrew the old filter, screw in the new one, and flip the shut-off switch. Very easy. I only have to change the filter about every 10 months or so, and they''re not expensive.
