Cuisinart DCC-2000 Coffee-on-Demand 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker
I have a perfectly good Cuisinart DCC-1200, but after spotting the 2000 at a local store I couldn''t stop fiddling with the floor model. Well, my wife was lurking as I was fiddling and with my birthday coming up and my affinity for coffee she thought she''d found the perfect gift. Boy was she was right!Now let''s be honest, carafe-less designs have been around forever Farberware''s stainless steel coffee pots are staples in offices and at parties they just haven''t been this much fun. I''m not going to repeat everything that''s already been written, but suffice to say the 2000 is a unique coffee maker. Does it make coffee better than my 1200 did? No, not really. But it does keep it hot longer, without the bitter, burnt taste that would often accompany the coffee from my 1200 when left on the warming plate for over 30 minutes. I normally have two cups every morning (not the puny 5-ounce "cups" that every coffee maker seems to think is the norm for whatever reason), but I''ve found myself having about three (maybe not a good thing?) since getting the 2000 because that third cup, about 1-1/2 hours later still tastes great. That wasn''t happening with the 1200. Sometimes I''d try the third cup, but the burnt carafe taste made it unfortunate.
One of the complaints I''m reading here is that you need a separate container to fill the 2000. I can''t be the only owner that owns a Pyrex 2-cup (or more) measuring cup can I? I just fill it up once, twice gasp! three times and pour it in while watching the water level on the side. Honestly, it''s not that hard. Cleaning is no different from any model with a carafe. But instead of washing the outer carafe you remove the inner "carafe" to rinse it out or give it a thorough cleaning. That''s the only difference. The coffee gauge is kind of silly and inaccurate and I rarely ever look at it, but it adds to the allure of the 2000.
I''ll be keeping my 1200 at the ready for my sister to use when she comes over to make her dreadful flavored coffees so they don''t contaminate my new toy. But until the next great design advance comes along to which I can''t say "no," I''ll be enjoying the 2000 to the fullest. It''s neat, it''s fun and it makes great coffee.
The coffee tastes great, never burnt. It is easy to program and clean and does not take up a whole lot of room. It also comes with one of those re-usable, permanent gold filters which many companies sell separately for about $20. My girlfriend can operate this thing easily, and she has a hard time figuring out the remote control for the TV. If she can program this unit, so can you. As to the other negative comments I have read which describe a powerless, malfunctioning unit, I have had no problems whatsoever with mine. Hope this review was useful, thanks for reading it.

We just purchased this coffee maker. Very unique design in that it uses no carafe but a tank inside the coffee maker to store the brewed coffee. You then press a lever to dispense the coffee. My wife has a habit of breaking the glass carafes and so this should avoid this problem in the future. The plastic tank holds the brew basket as well as the coffee and both are removable for cleaning. Full featured with LCD clock, auto start, and adjustable warming time. The most expensive coffee maker we have ever bought but it is well built and most importantly it makes great coffee.UPDATE
Have to downgrade my rating to 1 star. While it made great coffee, the coffee maker kept failing. After going through 2 units we gave up and bought a Cuisinart DCC 1200 (with a carafe). We''ve had it almost two years and so far so good.

Cuisinart has known problem with this coffee maker. The lid builds up condensation and when you open it, it runs down the back and eventually your timer/brewing mechanism will go out. Multiple reviews have had the same problem. Granted, when I called Cuisinart, they are willing to replace it. (Immediately reached a customer service rep on a Sunday afternoon). But I have to pay the shipping out and include a $10 check for return shipping, and in the meantime, I am a month without a coffee maker.Oh... and by the way, the customer service rep was immediately aware of the problem, so it is a known problem to Cuisinart as well. When I asked the customer service rep if I could replace this machine with a different machine since it is a known defect, she said no, you can only replace like machine for like machine. I guess your only hope is they will discontinue the product.
If you are unfortunate like me and only read this review after you have already purchased the product, my suggestion would be to open the lid just a small amount to hopefully prevent the condensation from running down the back and keeping it in the grinds basket. Then after the condensation has run off, open in the remainder of the way to remove the grinds or add water.

It''s quick, quiet, clean, and looks good too.Filling it up is EZ, especially if you have a sprayer hose thingy on your sink. Otherwise YES you will need another container (preferrably one with a spout) unless you''re very adept & not clumsy. If you pour around the top sloppily it WILL get the counter wet, as others have noticed. The tank that holds the finished coffee does come out & you could use this as well but I think it would be kinda awkward, haven''t tried it.
It does come with one water filter that supposedly is good for 2 months. Or just put your own filtered water in there & skip the filters all together.
The timer & clock is easily setup. It brews quietly with little gurgling and finishes with a few low non-obnoxious beeps. It''s weird how quickly it sets up, I find myself standing there a few seconds afterwards trying to figure out what I forgot to do because it''s that zippy of a process.
There are no swinging baskets to fiddle with the top lifts straight up to give you access to the water area, the inner "pot" that holds the brewed coffee, and the two baskets for grounds. The larger square one is for using paper filters this one must stay in the machine. The smaller gold filter fits in this one if you go paperless.
Coffee stays HOT but not stupidly dangerously hot like gas station coffee. The last cup is as good as the first I''ve grabbed some 3 hours after brewing & tho cooling at that point (heater is on for 2 hours) the coffee tasted fine not bitter or burned or evaporated down at all. As often as I''m up getting the last murky cup (roomie makes the pot at 5:30am) this makes me VERY happy. We use generic & Kroger brand coffees too, nothing gourmet except very rarely. I can''t wait to put some REAL coffee in this to see how it does. Well actually I did today I forgot about that! Decaff southern pecan. It had a distinctive chocolate flavor that I''ve never experienced before, bonus!
I''d been reviewing & compairing coffee pots for a few months now looking for a number of features: extra cups (12), carafe-less or no-spill thermos, timer/clock. As a bonus this coffee maker is sexy. I like the stainless shiny plate that you put your cup on (and it never gets a drop on it) and the brushed stainless sides that wipe up instantly with a damp washrag especially if it''s hot. The finger marks just evaporate as you wipe. And it doesn''t steam up the underside of the cabinets or walls either.
Serving is a breeze, just put your cup under & press the lever. Viola! For very tall cups the grill lifts out easily giving you an extra inch. For jumbo cups (like tall travel mugs) yeah you gonna have to pour in another cup & then dump into YOUR cup.
My only "EH!?" is the gold filter. The one that comes with it just feels a little flimsy to me, I have another one from an old pot I use instead. It''s probably fine but I''m just used to the weight of the one I''ve got.

We make an average of 3 pots a day, sometimes 4. Still going strong, no problems at all. I run 2 cups of vinegar thru the system (top the rest off with water) to clean and then another pot of clear water to rinse. This keeps everything sparkling.
It''s my favorite piece of kitchen equipment to say the least. I FINALLY have a tidy area around the coffee pot with no drips or sloshed coffee. HURRAH!!!!!

We''ve had our Berkey for over a year. The fluoride filters are the main reason we purchased a Berkey. They are only good for six months. I tested my water twice to verify this. Our water comes from a well and is naturally fluoridated at about .9 ppm (parts per million). I tested a filter by purchasing a kit through 3M (about $20) after seven months of use and the water tested at 0.79 ppm. I replaced the filter and tested after about a month and the water came back to 0.06 ppm. Hardly any fluoride! I am curious to test my water again at the five month mark but not sure I want to spend an additional $20. I think I will just stick to the manufacturer''s recommendation of changing out ever six months. Overall, this is the way to go if you want to remove fluoride from your drinking water.After seeing multiple reviews state that their water tested so high for fluoride I would be curious to ask when they tested their water. They might have misunderstood the directions and be using their filters after six months. The black filters can be used indefinitely, but the fluoride filters lose effectiveness after six months of use. Another possibility is the ph of their tap water. I think the ph of your water can affect the effectiveness. I am not a scientist but have read that the filters work better with slightly acidic water (pH range of 5.5 6.5 and generally don''t work well if the water is neutral (pH = 7) or more alkaline (higher pH). So if you want to be sure that your filter will work to filter out fluoride you could test the ph of your tap water first.

If you''re not filtering the fluoride out of your water, you''ll never know how GOOD it can taste!!! I won''t drink any water that hasn''t been through my Berkey. It makes the clearest ice cubes too! In this day and age when you don''t really know what''s coming out of your tap, why would you take a chance? I used to drink Evian bottled water exclusively because most bottled water tasted just like it came from the tap (found out later, that it did!), and was able to transition to Berkey water easily. I am very disappointed to say that this product did not filter flouride at all. After reading some skeptical reviews, I invested in a flouride test myself. The water from our municipal tap was tested, and compared to water that was run through my Berkey system with flouride filters. The same amount of flouride was present in the Berkey filtered water, as the tap water. The manufacturer states that the flouride filters are good for approximately 1000 gallons. The filters tested had gone through about 300 gallons. So, I couldn''t say if they work in a brand new state or not, but definitely weren''t working after 300 gallons, which is only 1/3 the capacity stated by Berkey. Will be asking for my money back on this product. Very unfortunate, and disappointing. The Berkey system did seem to filter chlorine (tested that too), but the flouride filters did not do their job. I will be ordering further tests to see if the black filters indeed do what they say they do too.Save 20% Off
I purchased a fluoride test to make sure these filters worked and it came out to 1.12 ppm fluoride. My water supply said that they fluoridate between .7 and 1.0 ppm. It did not remove any!!

This machine is excellent. Produces above average espresso on every shot. Foams milk well too.I was an early buyer of this machine, and 8,513 shots later (yes it counts them), I know it is an excellent value.
I also would comment that the customer service is excellent. Sent in the machine once, and for $100.00 received a complete overhaul. (Sent in for a pump leak after a house move.) Came back like new, on time, and they paid for the return shipping. Can''t ask for much more.
I will buy another super auto, from Jura/Capresso, when the time comes for a new machine. It might be many years from now...
Also, we went through a brief episode in which it would refuse to brew anything (as if it didn''t have the power to punch the water through the puck of coffee). I remedied this with a descaling cycle as well as wiping out the parts above the removable tray thoroughly. (I use filtered water in the machine, but the descaling seems to be a more serious cleaning than the normal automatic cleaning.)
Given this, I would recommend keeping large stock of cleaning supplies and at least doing the normal cleaning every couple of weeks, rather than awaiting the machine''s automated recommendation to clean. My understanding is that there are no dirt sensors driving these messages. It is just a function of the amount of use.
Overall, I would buy this again for certain, and if/when it dies I will be looking at one of its more expensive siblings, not at other brands.
UPDATE OCT 2012: I am up to nearly 5,000 runs. The only change is that it heats up a little slower. What a quality machine!

This is not for your typical coffee drinker. It could be, but isn''t. The thing that separates it is primarily the price, otherwise just about anybody who drinks coffee should absolutely love this machine.This machine can and does make excellent coffee, cafe americano. It makes very good, but not excellent espresso. You can do as good or better with this machine than you''ll probably get at a chain coffee shop.
The key to quality coffee on this is to use HIGH QUALITY coffee beans. I mean specifically beans that are recently roasted. The more recently roasted the beans, the better off you are (optimum use date is 2 days after roasting). I recommend coffee from www.intelligentsiacoffee.com (try their accidental/occidental and house blends) or www.victrolacoffee.com (streamline espresso).
Make sure you use the high temperature setting for best results, also. When making espresso, I think it helps to warm the machine up for making steam before you make the espresso (gives more flavor).
The steam wand is OK, but somewhat limited in that it''s hard to get some frothing pitchers maneuvered in for frothing.
True coffee geeks will want a high-quality espresso machine where you can control the tamping of your grind, along with a quality burr grinder because you''re not going to get a "God Shot" from the F9.
But for the rest of us, and even coffee geeks that enjoy the ease of single-button coffee/espresso quickly in the morning, this machine is very capable.

I have had this espresso machine for nearly two years now, so I know all of its "quirks" and benefits/issues. I feel compelled to write a review since I relied so heavily on these reviews when making this purchase...so here goes:1) After much research, I purchased the F9 at Williams Sonoma, primarily because they used to have a policy that you could return anything, at any time, if needed. So, I figured that if ever I had an issue, I could just return it to my local Williams Sonoma and get a replacement rather than returning the machine to the factory and waiting. Turns out I did indeed have to do this once for an electrical issue, which was actually an issue I had with the wiring at the outlet--not the machine afterall! In any event, I don''t think Williams Sonoma still has that same open-ended return policy. Be sure to research the return policy wherever you make your purchase!
2) Overall, I have to say I absolutely LOVE this machine. Here''s how I rationalized payment for such an expensive indulgence: if you figure a Starbucks costs approx. $3, and you buy one everyday (which I was), it would take 600 cups to break even. Well, with the automatic counter on my machine, I have made more than 1600 cups! This machine paid for itself in the first year..easily. ok, so now that you''re past the issue of paying so much for a coffee machine, here''s more...
3) This machine is crazy smart. It knows exactly when to clean itself, or tells you when to start the cleaning cycle. To clean it, all you do is insert a tablet in the coffee powder drawer and it does its thing. It knows when it needs water, when the filter needs to be changed, etc. In fact, since we have a water filter built into our refrigerator, we just use that filtered water in the coffee machine and therefore we don''t need to use the expensive water filters. Bottom line, if you just pay attention and clean the machine on a regular basis when it tells you to, this is a no-brainer machine.
4) The coffee and espresso are great. I''ve learned to make a latte just like Starbuck''s and I haven''t been back since. Some people complain that the frother doesn''t work well, but here''s the trick: first, you should use non-fat or low-fat milk. For some reason, lower fat milk froths better every time; second, be sure to clean the frothing nozzle after each use. Kind of a no-brainer, I know. Third, there are two settings on the frother, and you can change the setting by sliding the sleeve on the frothing tip up or down. Experiment with this and you will get the perfect froth, really.
5) As for the beans, we don''t use overly oily beans as I have read that they can cause a build up and make the machine tough to clean, etc. I believe the "Illy" brand that comes in the metal tin is supposed to be too oily. Others may have a different experience, but we just use whole espresso beans from the grocery store.
6) Believe it or not, this machine heats up in about 90 seconds, if not sooner. As a result, we use this for tea and hot cereal all the time. This is an added bonus for purchasing this machine.
As for issues, I honestly don''t have many. I guess the only things that bug me are the fact that I have to remove the drawer from time to time and dump the water which is ejected after each use. I have learned to keep a black coffee cup under the spout so that it collects the rinse water and i just dump it as needed.
The only other issue I have had with the machine is that the touch screen sometimes works and sometimes ''sticks.'' I''ve tried cleaning the face, washing my hands, but sometimes this just doesn''t work right. Fortunately, when it does ''stick,'' it gets stuck on the setting I use, so it''s not a huge problem.
Net-net, I highly recommend this machine. It took us several days of research and at least a couple of weeks to build up enough nerve to spend this much on a freakin'' coffee machine, but I have to say, this machine has become my new best friend in the kitchen. Sad, but true! Do yourself a favor and buy one. Enjoy!
UPDATE: This machine is still going stung after almost five years daily use and 4100 cups of coffee! The only issue we continue to have is the electronic display panel continues to go dark at times, or flash and flicker. I''m sure we could send it in for maintenance, but we can''t stand the thought of not having our machine for 3+ weeks.

Unlike the review below we''ve been lucky in that we''ve had no problems with our unit.It''s been exactly 3 years since we purchased our machine and we haven''t looked back. The machine was bought as we were spending $40-50 a week at Starbucks. Now we use organic milk and beans and make our own latte''s at home.
The machine is super easy to use. There are various settings for the grinding and dose of coffee. I just set the dose on max and change the grind depending on what beans I use. The machine gives you 3 sizes of coffee depending on what you want. The steam wand works well but can only be used after coffee dispensing is finished. It takes 15-25sec for the steam wand to really start.. steaming. The cappuchinore on my machine doesn''t work but I only tried to use it after we had the machine for 2 years so I''m not bothered too much. I also have the direct water connection to my reverse osmosis system. So I haven''t had to de-scale yet and might never need to.
Another useful item is the rinsing cycle where the machine runs hot water through itself for 10mins. At the end you get to see how much "dirt" was cleaned out. Quite satisfying :)
The machine also has some idiot proof features. One is when you put in pre-ground coffee but then press the coffee button instead of the pre-ground button first. The machine makes some funky noises but then dumps everything out. I''m not proud to say I''ve done this more than once....
Overall through it''s the best $$$ I''ve ever spent and would highly recommend this machine. It might not be the cheapest (or most expensive!) but you get what you pay for!

This machine makes good espresso and good cappuccinos. In terms of fully automatic machines, its price is infinitely more reasonable than that of a Jura. The price of a Jura X9 at $6500 is about that of a commercial machine. This Saeco will do nicely until I get my Faema E61 or Prestige semi-automatic 2-groupers with a Mahlkonig grinder. I doubt if my commercial machine will make a much better espresso or cappuccino but I think a manual machine has fewer maintenace problems and I have more control over the milk foaming. However the Saeco does offer the manual steam wand as well as its cappuccitore (milk foamer) and they both work well. I also like the energy saver feature of the Saeco since I prefer not to power off the machine. I also like the cup warmer. We''ve had our Royal Professional since August 2008. When it works, it works fine. For us, we only make 2-3 capppucinos/lattes per day, so if it isn''t flowing right that day (inexplicably), then it is annoying. It is back to Saeco for its 3rd repair for the same problems inconsistent coffee flow. Saeco cannot explain the cause of the problem, as they seemingly repair or replace different parts each time. BTW, they will ask you to be burdened with taking it to UPS or a UPS Store (where you will be charged the return shipping); If you escalate it to the Customer Service Manager, they will cover the shipping and have UPS come to your door. However, the point of buying a $1,400+ automatic machine is to expect it to reliably make 2-3 coffees when it doesn''t, the inconvenience of being without it for weeks at a time during repairs is unacceptable. Saeco is now offering to replace the unit, but with the negative comments on all their products, I am disappointed and exhausted with the brand. Very disappointing. We were convinced by the positive reviews from others so we went ahead after much research and ordered this espresso machine. it arrived, didn''t work (electronics problem) and the friendly Saeco customer service person told us to simply return it. This is our second attempt with a Saeco product and we have now given up on this brand. The first try was with a factory refurbished machine which never worked despite the fact that we went the extra mile and sent it back to the Saeco factory only to have it returned in the same inoperable condition. The Saeco 21103 Royal Professional was our second attempt, this time we got a totally new machine. The result was the same: a machine that didn''t even begin to work.Thank heaven for Amazon and its splendid return policy. Save yourself the hassle and pass on this one.

I have had my 1.5 gallon Cuisinart Cleanwater Countertop Filtration Machine about 1 and a half years now. It is still going strong and I will DEFINITELY buy another if this one ever wears out. Bought this watts filter for a watts RO system. Good price, free shipping, now the water system works properly again. One note, watts seems to like changing their filters as time goes on. The original part number I needed was years obsolete, I went off the 24 GPD rating.
I did try Filmtec membrane in sort of hack setup and at the half price it has reject rate close to 99% with higher flow rate. Unfortunately, in order to properly work in Watts filter both membrane and filter have to be modified. On filmtec membrane the rubber skirt should be moved to another side. On the filter check valve should be added and tubing rearranged.
So, this membrane is not much better than 7 yr old and for that it is negative review. Guess it is probably the same for all watts branded membranes. One star added for it actually fit into the filter. I am happy for now with water hardness slightly under 40 but once it over 50 all gets modded to Filmtec membrane.
Watts membrane is expensive, non-standard and low quality.

I ordered this filter for my Watts system (after calling Watts to be sure this one would fit). The filter did not fit our housing. Emailed seller who never responded. My husband measured the filter size (he is a tool maker and has the tools to make a precise measurement) and found it to be bigger than the old filter. Since this company did not respond, we called Watts and sent it back to them. They also measured it and found it had two extra turns on the membrane, making it to large to fit the housing. Went to Lowe''s and found a GE filter that fix exactly. Not impressed with this seller at all. This is my first negative review in all my years dealing with Amazon. I have a 5SV 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis System. The filter doesn''t fit in the membrane house. After I found out it stuck in the tube, it''s really a hard to pull it out. Usually I buy those stuffs from Watts Premier''s website directly. Because I have Amazon Prime Account and the price is lower, I want to give a try and benefit from the two-day shipping. However, I believe I would not buy from this seller anymore.Want Watts Premier Membrane 110009 24 GPD Membrane replaced by 560014 Discount?
Having used this product with also replacing the the other filters, our system now puts out water as clean as it was when the system was new; delicious!
