Whole House Water Filter Carbon Block 10" Big Blue

Whole House Water Filter Carbon Block 10'' Big Blue Cartridge Included
  • Quality Drinking Water In Your Home
  • Clean healthy water "better than bottled" at a fraction the cost.

The filter does a good job at removing chlorine. My Koi are happy and I have clean water to water my collection of African Violets. Both Koi and Violets don''t like Chlorine. The input and output of this filter are a surprising one inch pipe thread. I had to do a bit of searching to find an adapter to get it down to a standard household 3/4 inch CPVC pipe. The filter wrench is a nice touch for unscrewing the case to replace the cartridge. The filter is quite large and heavy, yet there is surprisingly no place to attach a bracket or mounting hooks. I have mine hanging by the plumbing but the plumbing is supported on each side of the filter with some large angle brackets. The filter housing itself seems to be a high quality casting and is nice and thick.

Great price compared to the big store prices. I had a little problem with the adapter leaking. Make sure that your fittings have plenty of teflon tape and are a snug fit. I used the shark bites to install which was a breeze.

Carpet Express C4 Remanufactured Carpet Steam Cleaner Like Rug Doctor

Carpet Express C4 Remanufactured Carpet Steam Cleaner Like Rug Doctor
  • 100 PSI Demand Pump
  • 85" Lift Vacuum Motor
  • 3.5 Gallon Solution & Waste Tank
  • Factory Remanufactured
  • Free Hand Tool / 11ft Hose

I rented one from Home Depot. I had recently rented the Rug Doctor machine and am not sure which one cleans better. The Carpet Express I am quite sure has better suction. After going over an area 3 times it didn''t feel any wetter than after the first time. Rug Doctor strongly recommends not going over an area more than twice. I did and the carpet got too wet.

CE seems easier to handle that the RD. Pushing it around was less a problem than the RD. It has a rotary brush an opposed to the shaking or vibrating brush on RD. Not sure which brush style cleans better though. Carpet Express seems to remove dirt as well as the Rug Doctor but sucks up more moisture than RD leaving carpets drier. One negative thing, the CE instructions direct you to use the container that collects dirty water to also mix clean water and carpet cleaning detergent. That''s like mopping the bathroom floor with a cleaning solution that''s in the toilet stool. Not a good idea. Just use a clean bucket.

The ideal may be to clean with Rug Doctor and suck up left over moisture with a Carpet Express. Not sure but I am leaning toward the CE as being better than the RD.

I have used pro carpet cleaners and don''t think they do a better job than renting a RD or CE. If you have the time and don''t mind breaking a sweat by all means do it yourself.

(Following reviews from another website)

Carpet Express

Pros:

* Extracted nearly all of the water we put into the carpet swatches.

* Best suited for carpets that are exposed to moderate traffic.

Cons:

* Cleaner may not remove very heavy soils.

* Testers said the cleaner was bulky and heavy to push.

* The handle isn''t height-adjustable; several of our taller testers had to lean forward while using this cleaner. (The one I rented had an adjustable handle like RD)

* The unit cleans and extracts the carpet only on the backward stroke, making it difficult to maneuver around a room.

* Some controls may not be intuitive, and you may have to ask a sales associate for a complete instruction manual.

* Upholstery attachment tools can be used with this cleaner; but they weren''t included with the rental. (I rented from Home Depot and attachment tools came free, RugDoctor at Lowes was an extra $3)

Rug Doctor Mighty Pro

Pros:

* Picked up a significant amount of dirt in Institute tests and should work well on high-traffic areas.

* Extracted almost half of the water we put into the carpets.

* Controls are easy to understand and use.

* Manual is complete and accurate.

Cons:

* The machine cleans and extracts only on the backward stroke, making it more difficult to maneuver around a room.

* Can be heavy to push when filled with water.

* The handle moves forward and backward, but doesn''t extend up or down; several of our taller testers had to lean forward while using this cleaner.

* Solution and water must be mixed in a separate bucket and poured into the tank, which can be messy.

I have rented Rug Doctor to clean my carpeting in the past and tried this Carpet Express unit from Home Depot today. The price was only twenty dollars for four hours. The unit I rented was brand new. It isn''t too heavy and simple to use. It extracted a lot of dirt from my carpet. The problem was that it was unacceptably loud. They should provide a pair of quality ear plugs with this unit! I much prefer the Rug Doctor.

ZeroWater Z-Pitcher ( Multi-Pack)

ZeroWater Z-PitcherPeople are giving this item a bad review because they are too stupid to read the instructions. They are just putting in the filter like the Brita filter, which is wrong. You need to screw it in from the bottom of the reservoir to be affective. The Brita leaves bits of purifier in the water, Zero does not leave anything but clean water.

good water filtration system. there is no chlorine or chemical taste that usually comes with tap water. The only problem is it pours really slowly

Waterwise® Distiller Kleenwise Cleaner And Descaler Save 10% Off

Waterwise® Distiller Kleenwise Cleaner And Descaler - 40 oz.We have really hard water and although I try to keep up with the maintenance, my distiller sometimes goes longer than it should between cleanings. The product that I used before this also produced good results but it required another step --boiling-to do the job. Kleenwise specifically warns against boiling the solution and recommends using warm tap water. I was a bit skeptical about the effectiveness of this method; it just seemed too simple, but I followed directions. When I came back to check after about an hour, the scale had dissolved and the distiller looked good as new. Although it didn''t seem necessary, just to be on the safe side, I let it sit for another hour before emptying and rinsing it out. The boiler was sparkling clean.

I''m really quite impressed with how well this works and how easy it is to use.

Waterwise® Distiller Kleenwise Cleaner And Descaler 40 oz.

This product does exactly what the description says it does and does it perfectly. Even when I go too long between cleanings, if I let my distiller soak over night, the next morning all the scale is either dissolved or soft enough to remove with a brush.

Regarding the 1-star review applied to this product it never ceases to amaze me that people will post reviews of PRODUCTS for complaints about AMAZON. (Note: I''m giving the 1-star reviewer the benefit of the doubt as I don''t see anything on this product''s page that would lead me to believe that I was buying a distiller.)

This product work like magic and when purchasing in these larger sizes the price is very reasonable. The trick is to use very little after each use for five minutes and keep the bottom clean. If this is done the larger size container will last for many months maybe more than a year.

I used it in my Megahome/Nutriteam distiller. Two tablespoons in a gallon of hot water. It removed the scale in a couple of hours. The stainless steel in the tank looks brand new with NO rubbing or brushing.

Two tablespoons in a gallon of water makes a solution that has a lot more power than any vinegar.

I find I need to use this less often if I don''t let the distiller shut itself off by burning off all of the water and I empty remaining water before adding another gallon. Also I occasionally use these Dobie sponges to remove some of the deposits before using this cleaner. It all depends on how bad I''ve let it get.

This tank is perfect replacement for my watts premier unit. The old one lated 10 years and finally developed an air leak in the diaphragm liner. The result of that was that the whole tank eventually filled with water (that is why the faucet kept releasing air for quite a while). When I replaced it with this tank it was really great to get a good 2.5 gallons of filtered water whenever I needed it. Saved me from buying a whole new setup. Easy to install in 5-10 min.

The tank itself is exactly what was ordered. It replaces the same tank that failed a few months back.

The only problem was the tank arrived in the box with the box damaged and tank dented. This does not seem to affect operation but is disappointing when ordering a new part. Box was left at the door so I have no way to reject it.

Aqua Vessel Insulated Filter Water Bottle / Filtration Bottle

Aqua Vessel Insulated Filtered Water Bottle / Filtration Bottle with 100 Gallon Filter - Double Wall thermosI searched and searched for the best value in a filtered water bottle and was not disappointed by this product.

Reason 1: Any water I put into it comes out tasting great (even icky "soda machine water" from restaurants).

Reason 2: After 4 hours in a car that was at least 110F, the water in this bottle was still COLD!! All the other water bottles in the car were so hot we could barely touch them, let alone drink the water!

Reason 3: It''s stainless steel, yet has a comfortable drinking spout (no metallic taste), AND a nice carrying handle, and even a very sleek ergonomic shape.

Reason 4: It comes in 4 (or more?) decent colors, so everyone in my family could have their own and not get them mixed up. Why didn''t CamelBak think of that??

Reason 5: It fits in the holder in my car--unlike other water bottles.

Reason 6: It doesn''t sweat (no condensation on the outside of the bottle), so when my kids put theirs on the wood tables, I don''t have to freak out!

Now, if I could only be paid to say that this is the most PERFECT water bottle on earth, I would then buy one for everyone person I know!!

P.S. The only drawback is that you have to fill it up often--but that''s because the water is so good, you drink more of it, and that''s the whole idea, right? Besides, what water bottle doesn''t go dry?? (The lame ones that aren''t filtered and get too hot when you leave them out. Enough said.)

The product works just as described. I consider myself a huge water snob, and by that I mean I do not prefer to drink water from the tap and usually only drink water bottles. The aqua vessel makes tap water taste just like bottled water if not better. I usually place 2 to 3 ice cubes inside as well, and the water stays cold for several hours.

PROS:

Keeps water cold

Makes water taste great

Water is easily drinkable though many claim it is difficult

Bottle is aesthetically appealing

Filters 100 Gallons

Does not sweat

Fits in my 2010 Camry cup holders

CONS:

Due to the filter being so large the bottle only holds approximately 15oz instead of the labeled 17oz, which I guess is not a huge problem.

The weight and size of the bottle is excessive considering the amount of water it holds (17oz model in my case)

BOTTOM LINE:

This bottle is definitely the best of its kind. I was considering buying the Camelbak filtered water bottle, but it apparently accumulates mold, and does not filter out bacteria like the Aqua Vessel. Also the filters for the Camelbak must be purchased more frequently with comparison to the Aqua Vessel

I''m an avid backpacker and water purifying is a constant struggle. I first learned about these from another hiker at a Hut on the AT. He was showing it off and I really liked the concept. You can drink water from the backcountry without having to boil it, carry an external filter, or use tablets that''s taste awful (I prefer weeks of dysentery too the taste of some of those tablets)!

I have used this several times over the last few weeks and I like it a lot. It''s convenient, easy, and the water tastes fresh. I always try to give it the cleanest water source possible to not clog the filter. (I always get water from rivers, not lakes, face the bottle away from the current and generally use a shirt to filter for floaters).

My only complaint is, it''s surprisingly heavy. Every extra ounce is a big deal to backpackers and this bottle / filter is heavier than I''m use to. Despite the weight I''m giving it 5 stars because it performs as designed; the water taste great and comes through clear, It''s very durable, it seals tightly and it includes a straw for using it with pure water. I love this since my first fill up is always from a clean water source.

I really loved the specs and the glowing reviews and ordered the 25 oz one. I bought this bottle specifically for car use but alas it won''t fit in any of the 3 standard cup holders in my 2007 MINI Cooper. The base of this bottle is almost 50% bigger than what fits in my car.

For those wondering the exact diameter, it is 3 1/4 inches. I wish this size info was available on Amazon!

Unfortunately, now I have to return it--at my expense. I hope that they will make narrower ones in the near future. I know I could leave the bottle on another seat or somewhere else in the car but that is really not an option for me.

A recently got this water bottle as a gift. I like the larger 25 oz. size because I''m not constantly having to refill it. The insulated feature keeps my cold water nice and cold. And, this filter is way cool! When I saw the price they sell it for, I thought it was pretty inexpensive since I''d pay a lot more for all of these features. I''m going to supercharge mine and add an alkaline water stick to make the water filtered and high pH. Thanks for creating such a cool water bottle, Eco Vessel!

BonaKemi WP500351001 32-Ounce Hardwood Floor Polish Low Gloss Save 8% Off

BonaKemi WP500351001 32-Ounce Hardwood Floor Polish Low GlossThis polish product is in packaging that looks JUST like the cleaner. I mistakenly picked up a bottle of this, and inserted into the refill of my cleaning mop. Noticed streaks and a dirty haze all over my less than 6 month old hardwood floor. Finally pulled out my refill mop label and the label for this bottle and started reading closely (REALLY closely).

I went on the internet and almost became sick. This polish is completely different from the cleaner and basically will ruin your hardwood floors.

This product prevents recoating of hardswoods. If I ever want to redo my floors, they will have to be sanded down to bare wood. Moreover, I called Bona and they told me my options were to 1) apply this junk all over my floors (and reapply every 2-3 months), or 2) spend $150 to buy and apply a product called bona remover. I was leaning toward the remover, but have some real concerns that it will basically strip the factory applied varish off my hardwoods floors.

My floors were beautiful before i applied this piece of junk. I don''t understand why Bona would put this very different product in packaging that looks almost exactly like the cleaner.

UPDATED

Well 400 dollars out of pocket later, I finally have this junk off my floor. Bona sells a hardwood floors polish remover that will remove this stuff, but it take many bottles and lots of elbow grease. Took a professional over 6 hours to get it all off. I am apparently not the only person that has mistakenly picked up this junk. The polish remover was on backorder when I first ordered, and the CS representative knew exactly what I was talking about when I called in. Maybe Bona is making such a killing from everyone''s mistake that they see no need to change the packaging.

Be forewarned. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT.

We mistakenly applied this to our polyurethane finished oak floors instead of the Refresher product which we had used before with great results. The floors had never been waxed and only cleaned with the Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner. The first coat came out awful (blotchy and uneven) so we decided to apply a second coat. What a mistake! The results were even worse!

We contacted Bona and found out the only way to strip this awful stuff off was to scrub the floors with ammonia and water. After 8 hours on our hands and knees we are finally back to where we started. The stuff removed was a cheesy-textured grayish beige goop that took considerable scrubbing with a nylon brush to get off.

We have used most other Bona products and have always been satisfied. We have no idea what purpose this product serves in the Bona product line, but if you want dull, dirty looking floors this will certainly do the trick.

Buy BonaKemi WP500351001 32-Ounce Hardwood Floor Polish Low Gloss Now

We have used other Bona products with success , but when we used Bona Hardwood Floor Polish (BHFP) on our Cherry hardwood floors, they became hazy and dull within minutes and the BHFP would not come off! We thought our floors were ruined! After quickly trying several methods and products to remove the BHFP (nothing was working), we sprayed the floors with Windex Multisurface Vinegar spray cleaner and spread the vinegar over the entire surface of the floors and wiped it down/rubbed it with paper towels and the mop pad. The mop pad had to be washed repeatedly to remove the BHFP residue from it so we could repeat the process over and over. After several hours, our floors were back to normal. We feel very lucky our remedial efforts to quickly remove the BHFP worked. Do not use this product!

Bona WP500351001 32-Ounce Hardwood Floor Polish Low Gloss

I used Bona low gloss floor polish on my hard wood floors. The results were very disappointing. There was a heavy white film on the entire floor. I followed the directions and did not walk on it for the required time. When we did walk on it, every footprint showed up. We finally scrubbed for a long period of time with ammonia and water to remove the floor polish. I definitely WOULD NOT recommend this product to anyone.

Product left streaks and residue everywhere. Only way to get this junk off your floors is to buy their polish remover. The fact that they actually sell a polish remover is proof enough to not use this stuff.

Culligan OR-34 O-Ring of 4.125-Inch Diameter

Culligan OR-34 O-Ring of 4.125-Inch Diameter
  • The OR-34 rubber o-ring gasket is 4.125" in diameter and is a Buna-N o-ring.
  • The OR-34 o-ring gasket is used to seal the housing bottom to the housing top to prevent leaks.
  • The OR-34 o-ring gasket should be lubricated with silicone lubricant to prevent leaks in the water filtration system.
  • The OR-34 can be used Ace Hardware, American Plumber, Ametek, Culligan, MasterPlumber, Pentek, and US Filter Plymouth Products.
  • The OR-34 oring should be replaced every two filter changes or if there is damage to the OR-34 oring.

I fully expected a rubber O-Ring with no moving parts to work correctly, but boy howdy I was surprised at just how well this sucker worked. It sealed up my Culligan HF-150A Whole House filter housing like NOBODY''S business. I was like "no way", but the OR-34 was all "Pffft, I can seal this up in my sleep. Vicks Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier Save 29% Off

Vicks Ultrasonic Cool Mist HumidifierI''ve read all of the reviews for this model, V-5100-NS and most of the reviews of its sister model, V-5100-N.

I think it''s clear that without at least once weekly maintenance -IE, a full cleaning, probably with diluted white vinegar to help remove buildup this unit will eventually fail.

Is that the manufacturer''s error?? No way!

A basic understanding of an atomizer, otherwise known as a nebulizer, actually functions will explain this.

The little metal plate at the bottom of this humidifier agitates the molecules of the water, along with... ALL OF THE DISSOLVED AND SUSPENDED SOLIDS IN THE WATER!

By contrast, a hot humidifier uses a heating element to raise the water''s temperature high enough to cause the water to switch phases and become steam.

Since steam is really bad at carrying dissolved or suspended particles of anything it, all the minerals in your water are left behind on the heating element.

That is the white or colored gunk you will see on a typical hot steam generating humidifier.

This does not occur with ultrasonic humidifiers like the V-5100-NS because everything in the water is atomized. Everything it is agitated so much that it rips away from its adjacent molecules and becomes an ultra-fine mist.

Any and all contaminates in your tap water will be atomized and sprayed all over the place -this is how the humidifier works. It is not a design flaw.

It''s important to note that in some cities, the PPM or parts-per-million of dissolved solids can be has high as 500 PPM or more -this might not seem like much, but at those levels you will be atomizing a lot of interesting minerals, with unknown effects.

So, if you want to use this product you are pretty much stuck using very filtered water (NOT just a Brita, I would recommend a decent reverse-osmosis system to really help lower the PPM) or just buying distilled water, which is actually very inexpensive if you buy in bulk. Do not buy distilled water at the grocery story -it''ll likely be marked up a lot.

No humidifier is perfect, and all methods of creating a mist for use in raising the relative humidity of a space will have problems with water contaminants, unless you are using absolutely pure distilled water. This is a matter of physics and solubility, not some problem with the technology being used to generate the water mist.

Lastly, I''ve been using the model V-5100-NS for a while now and I have been very satisfied with it. It generates a very consistent stream of cool mist, and the fan is indeed very quiet. I''ve owned many other models of humidifiers, and this is absolutely the quietest by far. Could I sleep in the same room with it?

While this humidifier is spendy, it is quite worth it.

I have two of these humidifiers.

Pros:

1. High mist output very clearly visible. It''s like a fog machine! ''WOW!''

2. Mist volume control many mist levels

3. Large water tank (20 hours of operation)

4. Direction control

5. Comes with it''s own filter but if you use distilled water you won''t need to use the filter.

It''s not silent but it is NOT loud by any means. I can sleep uninterrupted with it. My older humidifier produces the same noise level but my older humidifier produces a different frequency which disturbs my sleep. The Vick''s is far superior to my old one.

Cons:

Like any humidifiers you must keep it clean.

You have to keep the sonic agitator clean and free of dust/lint. A small bit of lint will negatively impact it''s ability to produce high levels of mist. You don''t even have to see the lint or dust.

Keeping the agitator clean is easy, don''t touch it with bare hands I only have to use running tap water on the agitator and it''s dust/link free and it works like new every time.

I have used this unit for weeks at a time when I''m ill and I have not seen any kind of ''white dust'' that other people are reporting. I use tap water, I live in the NW so perhaps it the quality of water we have?

Great product.

Buy Vicks Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier Now

I agree with both most of the positive and negative comments about this humidifier. It is the best, but that doesn''t mean it is good!

It is a total nuisance to clean, and even to fill. It is hard to turn a filled tank upside down to place on the bottom. What was anyone thinking? Did the designer of this thing ever use it? Pink slime develops in places impossible to clean, such as in the cylinder the mist flows through from the tank to the nozzle. The pink slime elsewhere can be cleaned more easily, but the base has narrow areas difficult to clean even with a Q-tip.

All complaints granted, mine and others, this is, unfortunately, still the best humidifier I have used. I''ve had mine for a couple of years, having given up looking for one that fills from the top or is easier to clean.

My advice: buy this one and also buy a large bottle of white vinegar, along with a supply of Q tips. It is a major PIA to clean, but worth it for the excellent mist. Dry it out completely after cleaning, at least once a week.

Read Best Reviews of Vicks Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier Here

After reading several reviews of humidifiers that all gave mixed opinions I ignored all of them and picked up this humidifier at a local drug store for $32. This humidifier is small, approximately 11"Wx6"Dx13"H, making it suitable to put on the floor or on a counter. It consists of two main parts, a white plastic base and a clear blue plastic container. The base has two sliding switches. One turns the unit on/off and the other adjusts the amount of water vapor being released in to the air. The blue container sits on top of the base and has a handle on top and a round screw-on part on the bottom to fill the container. It also comes with a filter that goes in the base. There is a round piece on top of the container that turns to adjust and direct the stream of water vapor. Pros: 1. In my opinion it is quiet, much quieter than the Bemis wicking humidifier I previously had. The sound level is comparable to a table top fan. It does make water noises though which I find soothing but could be an annoyance. 2. It runs for a long time without refilling. On the lowest setting 1 container full of water will last a couple days of continous run time. On the highest setting, it needs to be refilled once a day. 3. It has no wick, which would start to smell in the old humidifier I had. 4. No chemicals need to be added to keep scum from growing in it. 5. You can see the water vapor being released in to the air (so you know its working). 6. See through container. You don''t have to open anything to see how much water is left. 7. Container fits in kitchen sink to be refilled. 8. Relatively easy to clean. Cons: 1. It has no automatic shut off when the water runs out or when the air has reached the desired humidity. 2. When the container is picked up to be refilled it drips so you need a towel with you. When the unit is running, the water empties out of the container into the base where it is turned into water vapor. So when you remove the container the base is still full of water. 3. It needs to be cleaned regularly, once a week at least unless you don''t mind the scum that grows on it. The base has corners that you need a Q-tip to clean. It is recommended that it be cleaned with a damp cloth and a bleach and water solution and then rinsed well. We have extremely soft water so I don''t know how long the filter that comes with the humidifier will last or how well it works in places with hard water. I would recommend this humidifier.

I have had an older model for probably 7 years and was just looking to see if I could another one. I remember when I bought it I had a problem getting it to work. It''s water sensor can be touchy. I took it back and got a new one. I have had absolutely no problem with it in seven years! It is still working to this day. I have a small crack in the Water Tank but it is not leaking yet. It runs so quiet and humidifies the air nicely. When the kids are sick I lug it from room to room because the other three humifiers I have stuck under my bathroom sink are loud and do not put out as much mist. I don''t use the Demineralization Cartridge, but I do use distilled water or softened water. I don''t have any white dust. Jackie

PUR 3-Stage Vertical Faucet Mount Chrome FM-3700B Save 1% Off

PUR 3-Stage Vertical Faucet Mount Chrome FM-3700BThis one-click thing doesn''t work. It just kept falling off the sink every time I would turn on the water until finally it wouldn''t even stay on at all. There are several design malfunctions with this unit. I actually tried a few different ones thinking that particular one was defective but I soon learned the whole line suffers from the same problems. First of all, the entire weight of the unit rests on the connection to faucet. you can tell it''s not balanced well because every time you turn on the water lightly, the unit''s lifts up from the pressure of the water. Unfortunately, if you turn the water up past the point of dripping, the unit explodes off. In addition, the little piece that attaches to the faucet is made of plastic so after the unit falls off a few times the grooves completely wear away and it no longer stays on at all! VERY poorly designed!!! If only they had invested a few more cents into making that plastic piece metal!!! Too bad because the water really did taste wonderful!!!

I still love these filters even if the quality isn''t like before.

But still the best around.

I don''t trust the carafes.

these r like the old sprayer bottles, which is really nice............the r cleanable & fixable, which the newer ones r not, those u have to throw away..........but the hole in the cap is a little too large, i can''t get a really fine mist from it...........................other than that, it''s really nice they still make these type..........

JURA 60209 Claris Water Filter for JURA

JURA 60209 Claris Water Filter for JURA, Capresso, Impressa Coffee MachinesFit just fine in my Impressa F9, easy to switch in, good price especially when buying four in a pack.

Jura/Capresso automatic coffee makers makers often work fine for many years. However, if the filter is not replaced when suggested, scale can form and keep the coffee maker from working. Filtering out the particles that form the scale can extend the time before that happens.

Cuisinart EM-100 1000-Watt 15-Bar Espresso Maker Save 55% Off

Cuisinart EM-100 1000-Watt 15-Bar Espresso Maker, Stainless SteelI purchased this machine at a Kohl''s for roughly $220. I think it''s of an exceptional quality for the price.

Positives: #1 Well built (it''s actually quite heavy)

#2 easy to use, filters allow for a single or double shot to be made also comes with a pod filter but I''ve never used it

#3 large water reservoir that has allowed me to make 4 or 5 espressos and steam milk too

#4 comes with a DVD that teaches you how to use it (much easier than reading the booklet) this is especially helpeful if you''re new at making your own drinks

#5 easy to clean

#6 has a warming plate on top (good if you need to make more than one double shot cups or two single shot cups

#7 espresso has a good taste (although I think this has as much to do with the quality of the coffee you''re using) The machine actually does produce a good amount of crema for the price you pay

#8 Stainless steel frothing picture is just the right size for one latte or two cappucinos

#9 15 bar pump allows for more than enough pressure and for great taste.

#10 has a feature that allows you to get plain old hot water too if someone isn''t interested in the espresso and wants tea/cocoa/whatever

Negatives: #1 the steam nozzle is too long you kind of have to tilt the pitcher to get the nozzle out this isn''t a problem so long as you know so you can use less milk or you can place the machine so the nozzle can be used on a non-countered space. The nozzle has a good range of movement so this does help counteract.

#2 the distance between the portafilter (where the coffee comes out) and the drip tray is not very tall I''ve found that I have to use a smaller cup to brew and then dump it into a larger cup if I''m going to make a latte and want to fit in a decent amount of frothed milk.

#3 you have to be really careful to not overtamp your grounds or you''ll end out with coffee everywhere this machine is a little pickier than I expected (and pickier than the really cheap machine this replaced). But, with that said, the taste is 100x better. You can catch it if you overtamp too so long as you closely monitor and make sure the water is coming out of the portafilter at a decent rate. If you overtamp, barely anything drips out. After a while you figure out how much is too much.

#4 my biggest complaint, and this one is quite dangerous There''s not a great way of knowing that pressure has been released this means that once your espresso is made and you''re ready to clean out the coffee grounds you have to be really really careful or it''ll explode the hot coffee grinds all over you and your kitchen. I''ve been seriously burned a couple of times. It might not be a problem if you''re used to espresso machines (I wasn''t when I first bought this one) or you learn to be super extra careful always.

We had a Krups combo coffee pot/espresso machine and after several espresso calamities in a row, I gave up and got this Cuisinart. So far it has been great! It seems that there used to be only basic espresso makers or extremely expensive ones on the market, with nothing in between. But the Cuisinart satisfies the coffee connoisseur on a budget by making truly wonderful espresso and more.

One of my frustrations with our last model was the "perfect froth" tip, which was disastrous to say the least. I just need a basic steam wand and I can take it from there, and the Cuisinart fits the bill it steamed and frothed my milk easily and quickly. Just be careful to use less milk than you might think, because the volume doubles in no time. I''ll probably switch to a larger pitcher than the one that comes with the Cuisinart, though it''s fine to start out.

A couple tips to get started: the instructions say the heating light should come on right away, but it didn''t for me until I switched the small knob to the droplet icon (as opposed to the middle neutral position). I figured this out by watching the video, which I recommend as the instruction manual is pretty bare. It''s also good to see how much pressure one should use to tamp the grounds.

The only negative thing I can say is that the warming tray doesn''t seem to get very warm, but I do like being able to store my cups on top anyway (more space in the cabinets now, plus a certain café aesthetic is always nice), so I don''t mind. Positives are that it''s fast, it''s quiet, everything is sturdy and well designed (and clicks or locks solidly in place so you know things are seated correctly), and the espresso is truly café quality an enormous difference from the more basic espresso machines on the market.

UPDATE: Since this review I have had some experiences with clogging. Cuisinart customer service was totally unhelpful, but here''s what I do to remedy the situation:

1. As soon as you notice espresso isn''t coming out, turn off the machine, take off the basket (you may have to wait for the pressure to subside), rinse it out well, and fill the machine with water.

2. Scrub the underside of the metal grid that the filter basket attaches to with a damp cloth.

3. Reattach just the basket with no filter. Heat water and run that through to get any clogs in the upper part of the machine. I fill up a milk pitcher. Then turn the big black dial to neutral, add the empty filter to the basket, and repeat. As long as water starts running through that ok it should be all right. I hope it works for you!

I like my coffee. In fact, I freely admit to being a coffee addict. And before I say anything else, let me say that this machine makes great coffee. With the right beans and a bit of practice, you can beat the taste of any coffee shop with this.

That said, I am glad, I still have my french press, because sometimes this machine decides to be difficult. It usually starts if you tamp your coffee too hard. The coffee maker is then unable to pass water through and ceases up completely. Make sure you watch what you are doing, so you can stop it from trying if necessary. Now, the real problem with this is, that you will have a very hard time removing the basket, as long as there is still pressure inside. It takes somewhere between 5-10 minutes at least, before the pressure has gone down enough, that you can pry the basket off (watch for exploding coffeegrounds, if you didn''t wait long enough).

To make matters worse, the machine seems to have a hard time recovering after an incident such as this. It seems to get even pickier, with what it will accept, and it will be easier to resort to the backup plan, and let the espresso machine recover.

I would rate the EM-100 a 5/5, if it weren''t for this problem. I hardly apply any strength, when I tamp my coffee, and I still run into trouble from time to time. In fact, the first one I had got so picky, that I took it back to the store and exchanged it.

To minimize my risk, I take great care to clean every bit of the coffee maker after each use. If you can live with this issue, the coffee that comes out of this machine really is to die for.

Use it at least twice daily with both ESE pods and ground espresso. It really is a nice machine. If you are like some other reviewers and have problems with coffee grounds blowing out over the kitchen after you are done then you are likely tamping them too hard or using a grind that''s too fine. Easiest way for a first time user is to buy some coffee in ESE (easy serve espresso) pods from the internet and feel it to see how hard the coffee is tamped in the pod. Cut it open and see how finely it is ground. Go to the grocery store and grind a pound of your favorite roast to about the same grind. At my grocery store the second or the third finest setting works fine. You can use your own grinder but a good burr type grinder costs some money and the less expensive blade grinders are useless for espresso. Tamp it to about the same hardness as the pod was. It makes wonderful espresso with lots of crema on top. I''ve never had an issue with grounds or steam blowing out after I release the pot--even with the machine on and waiting just until the coffee stops dripping to detatch it. I don''t see how you could go wrong, but some obviously do.

This one looks nice. It works well. Has a self-priming pump (a good feature that alot don''t include). It comes with a tamper, a stainless-steel frothing cup, filter holders for pods, single, and double shots. It also includes 2 tolls to clean the little holes the espresso is pumped through. It comes with pretty much everything you would end up buying for it in the first year. I have a water softener so scale will never be a problem but you would want to descale it once in a while if you don''t use distilled water. The only thing I wish it had was a dial thermometer so I could watch the water temp more closely. I believe that it has an aluminum boiler. I would prefer brass but you just can''t get it at this price. The pump makes some noise but not more than any other I''ve used. Steam espresso machines are cheaper, much quieter but burn the coffee and it doesn''t taste nearly as good.

Overall, very good product, easy to use and the best value by far at this price.

To start with, the machine leaked water out of the bottom from the beginning.

A couple of months before the 1-yr warranty was up, the plastic (!) piece holding he steaming wand broke and sent the wand shooting under pressure. Cuisinart agreed to replace the machine, but I had to pay return shipping AND new shipping. I believe they sent me a refurbished machine, as immediately the wand would barely release steam and no water stream through the wand at all. The front knob would get so hot under all of the pent-up pressure, that it was too hot to touch! A couple of times the wand came shooting off. I called back, but Cuisinart told me now the warranty was up, even though they just sent me a faulty machine! Told me they might make an exception, but again I would have to pay shipping both ways! What?!?

No more Cuisinart for me.

O-Ring Silicone Lubricant Save 62% Off

O-Ring Silicone Lubricant - 5.3 oz tubeThis product is surprisingly dense and sticky compared to my experience with silicone grease. It is probably well-suited as an O-ring lubricant, but even better as a solution for heavy weight-bearing applications where the lubricant must remain in place for repetitive motion. I should point out that Dow Corning does not call their product silicone lubricant either on the tube or on the box, nor do they specifically use the word "silicone" in the ingredients. They call it "Dow Corning Compound 111 Valve Lubricant and Sealant."

your "change filter" light on the fridge will stay on with these filters. the original filters that came with the fridge have are clear so you can see the charcoal filter. these are solid plastic and you can not see the charcoal in the filter, so the sensor will read that it needs to changed. even though the filter numbers are the same they are not. it will fit but you will have to live with the light going off.

Hunter 3.5 Gallon CareFree Plus Humidifier

Hunter 3.5 Gallon CareFree Plus Humidifier with PermaWick Filter, 34357We bought one of these Hunter humidifiers a few years ago. I liked the big tank, low-maintenance and no consumables (no wicks or filters to buy). The only problem was, as others have mentioned, that often when it switched off, a gallon or more of water would promptly dump onto my floor. I finally called Hunter to complain about it, and I have to say I''m incredibly impressed with their customer service, and with the simple fix (new design for the tray) which appears to fix the problem completely. This is now a very competent humidifier, and we''re really happy with it. You won''t see a cool plume of water vapor spewing from this unit, but it does work really well, and it''s very easy to keep clean (just throw parts of it in the dishwasher, and use vinegar and water to de-calcify the other parts).

For those who are shopping for a humidifier, you first have to decide what''s important to you. For me, the ultrasonic ones are a no-go because they spew white powder all over my room (mineral dust from our hard water). The hot steam ones are a no-go because they get all nasty from bacteria, fungi, etc. I don''t want to breathe that stuff in. And while the fan is far from silent, we actually like it at night, it''s a nice gentle drone that helps lull us to sleep.

Nice job, Hunter, on fixing the original design flaw, and on supporting the product so well.

I bought two of these Hunter humidifiers at the same time, and they did a good job of humidifying a 2000 square-foot house (1 upstairs; 1 downstairs). It seems like they operated non-stop during 4 very dry winters. Both units had similar problems during their 4-year lifetimes, but my issues weren''t specified in the manufacturer''s warranty so I never pursued replacement or repair. Since my cost-per-year (based on total purchase price) was $20/unit, I simply treated them as "disposables" and discarded them after the 4th year. This Fall I''ll decide whether to replace both with the same models or choose a competitor product.

This is not a "cool-mist" humidifier -it is an evaporative unit with a fan. The motor turns the fan and also drives a simple plastic impeller pump that circulates the water. There is a float connected to a power switch that will turn the unit off when the water level in the pan is low. My problems: both NiteGlow lights stopped working prior to the end of the 1st winter. I had assumed that the units would use a long-life LED, but that obviously wasn''t the case. During the 2nd winter, I had problems with one of the "float" systems, but was able to repair it myself. During the 3rd and 4th seasons, I had problems with the plastic fans rubbing the plastic case and causing noise especially on "Hi" speed. For their last year of use, I could only operate the units on "Lo" fan speed. The fans would still rub the cases intermittently, and it was very annoying in the middle of the night or while trying to watch TV.

On extremely dry days, the output capacity on "Hi" fan speed can truly be 3-1/2 gallons every 24 hours when the humidistat is on a high setting. Fortunately, the "Tote Away tank" is convenient to transport and easy to refill at a bathtub or deep kitchen sink. The fans were never "whisper-quiet" even from day-one, but you will tune them out as background noise after the first week of use. The digital humidistats worked fine until the 4th season when one died abruptly. They automatically turn the fan off when the pre-set humidity level is reached. For me, they sometimes stopped working temporarily after the units were cleaned, but they always started working again after the units had fully dried.

I always had trouble with buildup of minerals on the filter, pan, and chassis, but this is presumably the price one pays for not having paper filters? The water in the bottom pans of the units tended to concentrate our local pinkish "Serratia marcesens". This could probably be overcome with diligent (i.e. weekly) emptyings and cleanings. On Lo-speed, the water doesn''t seem to move fast enough to prevent mild stagnation in the bottom pan, and if you continue to use the unit once the ambient humidity naturally returns in the Spring then you may have trouble with moldy/musty smells since the water won''t be cycling very frequently.

The pan and filter frame do clean up easily by hand or in the dishwasher (after the PermaWick filter has been removed). I only had a single "overflow" onto the floor by one unit after 4 years of use. That should be physically impossible based on the design of the unit, so I don''t know what caused it. I suspect that I was responsible for it in some way. Nevertheless, had an entire 3+ gallons spilled onto the floor (upstairs!), it could have caused some major damage. If I use these units again in the future, I may set them inside some large plastic storage boxes (or an unused bathtub) as a secondary overflow prevention.

Positives: No paper filters! No white residues since the units are mist-less. The PermaWick filters lasted for 3 seasons, but they were inexpensive and easy to replace. The units are attractive in design, easy to use, and the non-moving parts (except for the nite-lite) are rugged. Ideally, the units should last for longer than 4 seasons, but at an average cost of approximately $20 per winter one can''t complain too loudly about the limited lifetime. If Hunter builds added quality into the unit, then the market price will undoubtedly increase to match.

This humidifier has been great to us so far. Easy to use. We''ve had no leaks or troubles. We also enjoy the ''white noise'' of the fan at night. The blue glow is neat, too. The first two years we used our very hard spring water. This will be the first year with softened water, so we''ll see how it goes.(I think a little hardness is necessary?) Much less messy than the cheap ones. The tank, when full, might be heavy for some to lug around, but the good thing is it has a handle and it won''t spill while you''re carrying it. I''d definitely recommend, and if I need another one, would go with the same one-even though it''s a little pricey in my opinion. I enjoy all its features too much to go without.

I''ve owned one of these for about 4 years and it continues to perform wonderfully. The water tank is easy to remove, fill and return to the humidifier. I have a humidistat in my house and the results were increased relative humitidy from 33% (very dry) to the recommended 42%. Big help for those with sinus and, or allergy issues. The "permafilter" will eventually have to be replaced but not until after several years of use (depending on the water supply).

It does work good but it is not large enough for a whole house, I should actually have 2 of these but the thing I love the most is that there are no paper filters to replace! The ones that have the replaceable filters really are the pits since the filters are expensive and don''t last long.
